This is Kruger National Park in South Africa.

0:00:030:00:06

Home to some of the biggest, fastest and deadliest animals on the planet.

0:00:060:00:11

CBBC have brought four British and four South African children

0:00:130:00:16

to spend a month here, training to be rookie game-rangers.

0:00:160:00:20

Leading them on this amazing adventure will be their mentors,

0:00:200:00:24

trails ranger, Rudi...

0:00:240:00:26

It's taken me years to learn to be a ranger.

0:00:260:00:28

They've only got one month to do it in.

0:00:280:00:30

-..and guide, Frankie.

-In the bush, danger can be around any corner.

0:00:300:00:34

The Safari8 need to be alert, and have to be ready at any time.

0:00:340:00:37

Eight kids, two mentors, and one massive challenge

0:00:370:00:42

to lead two celebrity guests on a safari experience of a lifetime.

0:00:420:00:45

Last time, the Safari 8 learnt a hard lesson about tracking leopards.

0:01:070:01:12

If you're talking, we'll just leave. I don't want to hear a whisper.

0:01:120:01:17

There was chaos in the kitchen as the team prepared a bush banquet.

0:01:170:01:21

And the pressure was starting to show.

0:01:210:01:24

-Nervous.

-I can see that.

0:01:240:01:26

I mucked up on the baboon cos I went off the baboon too early.

0:01:260:01:30

Today, Ranger training ends with the Safari 8's biggest mission so far.

0:01:300:01:36

You have to go in.

0:01:360:01:37

-Where?

-There.

0:01:370:01:38

-Push in, push in.

-Urgh!

0:01:380:01:41

As the team set up camp, it all falls apart.

0:01:410:01:45

You guys disappoint me. There's no leadership.

0:01:450:01:49

-And the final challenge roles are revealed.

-The head ranger will be...

0:01:490:01:54

Oh, come on!

0:01:540:01:56

It's 4am in Kruger,

0:01:590:02:02

and the Safari 8 are fast asleep.

0:02:020:02:04

But, not for long.

0:02:060:02:08

It's the last day of their ranger training,

0:02:080:02:12

and Rudi and Frankie, have decided it's time

0:02:120:02:14

for a little military style discipline.

0:02:140:02:16

With an early morning wake-up call.

0:02:160:02:18

If you're not ready, you're not going.

0:02:180:02:21

Get your clothes on, get your backpack ready, so we can go.

0:02:210:02:24

-You're joking?!

-No.

0:02:240:02:25

-We've got a big mission for you, today.

-Ohh!

0:02:250:02:29

The Safari 8 have been training to be rangers for a month.

0:02:290:02:33

-So early starts shouldn't be a problem.

-Morning, guys.

0:02:330:02:36

Time to get up, Tomas, Manya. Time to get up.

0:02:360:02:38

I'm actually really annoyed because they said we'd get up at eight.

0:02:380:02:42

And me and Manya were talking all night, thinking we'd have a lie in,

0:02:420:02:45

and then they come and wake us up at half past four in the morning.

0:02:450:02:49

Tent buddy, Manya, is a little more enthusiastic.

0:02:490:02:52

I'm looking forward to today cos every time we get up early

0:02:520:02:54

it's something exciting. I'm looking forward to finding out what it is.

0:02:540:02:58

With the final challenge a day away,

0:02:580:03:00

the rookies must start looking out for each other,

0:03:000:03:03

-and working as a team.

-Come out of your tent. Come on, Tomas.

0:03:030:03:06

Come on, Tomas.

0:03:060:03:08

And if this early morning exercise is anything to go by,

0:03:080:03:12

-there's still a lot of room for improvement.

-Let's move!

0:03:120:03:15

It's an hours drive to the rendezvous point.

0:03:240:03:27

So while some of the team catch up on some much needed sleep,

0:03:270:03:31

the others try to work out what lies in store.

0:03:310:03:34

So far, we haven't seen the leopard and the giraffe

0:03:340:03:38

and the hippo, up close.

0:03:380:03:40

I really wished it was an elephant capture, cos I really like elephants,

0:03:400:03:44

and I'd really like to study more about elephants.

0:03:440:03:47

And Ella just might be on to something.

0:03:470:03:51

The Safari 8 have already come face-to-face with the buffalo...

0:03:510:03:54

..rhino,

0:03:570:03:59

and lion.

0:03:590:04:00

But today, for the final part of their ranger training,

0:04:020:04:05

the Safari 8 face a mammoth challenge.

0:04:050:04:09

And flying in are the Kruger vets, who the Safari 8

0:04:110:04:15

will spend the morning assisting, on an elephant research study.

0:04:160:04:19

Heading up the team will be Dr Markus,

0:04:190:04:22

one of South Africa's leading wildlife vets.

0:04:220:04:25

How's it going?

0:04:250:04:26

-Great!

-Fantastic!

0:04:260:04:28

OK, what we're going to do today, is show you and elephant darting.

0:04:280:04:32

And you guys are going to touch an elephant.

0:04:320:04:34

When I heard that we were going to dart one, I was thinking

0:04:340:04:38

it's just...unbelievable!

0:04:380:04:40

It's going to be this incredible experience

0:04:400:04:42

that you just don't...you don't do.

0:04:420:04:44

And just when Ella thinks it couldn't get any better...

0:04:440:04:47

Today, we're going to give Ella a chance to test her leadership.

0:04:470:04:52

OK, Ella, you're in charge of the group.

0:04:520:04:55

OK? Check that everybody follows your orders. All right?

0:04:550:04:59

All this is just a dream come true.

0:04:590:05:02

# I'm so excited And I just can't hide it

0:05:020:05:08

# I'm about to lose control And I think I like it... #

0:05:080:05:13

If any proof were needed of her ele-loving credentials,

0:05:130:05:16

just check out her bedroom, at home.

0:05:160:05:18

I've got lots of elephants. They're my favourite animal.

0:05:180:05:21

They're such magnificent creatures.

0:05:210:05:23

And since being in South Africa,

0:05:230:05:26

Ella's come nose-to-trunk at an elephant sanctuary,

0:05:260:05:29

and tracked a wild elephant during ranger training.

0:05:290:05:33

It was amazing. Really was just mind blowing.

0:05:330:05:35

But, has all that prepared her for this?

0:05:350:05:38

Darting an elephant from a helicopter allows the vets

0:05:410:05:45

to get close enough to carry out this vital research.

0:05:450:05:48

As Dr Markus takes to the skies,

0:05:480:05:51

Rudi's got some instructions for team-leader, Ella.

0:05:510:05:54

Markus will dart the elephant from the chopper.

0:05:540:05:56

Very dangerous situation. When it drops,

0:05:560:05:59

he'll tell me it's safe to move in, and then we'll move in.

0:05:590:06:02

Come on! Come on! Come on!

0:06:050:06:07

This elephant study is Ella's chance to prove to the mentors

0:06:070:06:11

she's got what it takes to lead the team in the final challenge.

0:06:110:06:15

Make sure we'll work as a team, talk to each other

0:06:150:06:17

about what we're going to do and what we're thinking

0:06:170:06:20

about what we're learning. I'll make sure that we're all tight

0:06:200:06:24

and really safe. I don't want anybody getting hurt.

0:06:240:06:26

Kruger may well be home to over 12,000 elephants

0:06:260:06:31

but it covers an area the size of Wales.

0:06:310:06:33

So Dr Markus is heading towards a likely elephant stomping ground.

0:06:330:06:37

So if you come forward, this is going to be an open area,

0:06:370:06:41

here on your right. Looks like we'll try here.

0:06:410:06:44

In the world of elephants, bigger is better.

0:06:450:06:48

With a lifespan of 70 years, elephants can grow

0:06:480:06:51

to twice the height of a human. and weigh as much as a bus.

0:06:510:06:55

And they've jumbo appetites to match,

0:06:550:06:57

spending 16 hours a day eating.

0:06:570:07:00

And all that food results in a lot of dung.

0:07:000:07:03

One dollop every 15 minutes.

0:07:030:07:06

Everyone's on the lookout and it's not long before Dr Markus

0:07:100:07:15

spots a young bull elephant.

0:07:150:07:16

They should have a visual, in the open area, now.

0:07:160:07:19

Elephants have poor eyesight

0:07:200:07:23

so the helicopter just looks like a large bird in the sky.

0:07:230:07:26

Which is good news for Dr Markus as he needs to get within 25m

0:07:260:07:31

to dart the elephant with the sedative.

0:07:310:07:33

Dart's in, and it's gone off. OK, dart's in.

0:07:380:07:41

OK, Rudes, you can come forward, mate.

0:07:410:07:43

As the sleep-inducing drug takes effect, everyone moves in.

0:07:430:07:48

They've just darted the animal now.

0:07:480:07:50

It takes seven minutes for it to go down.

0:07:500:07:52

Wild animals can be extremely dangerous,

0:07:520:07:55

so everybody must approach with caution.

0:07:550:07:58

Do you see it?

0:08:000:08:03

The animal's down, you can come forwards a little bit.

0:08:040:08:08

As the vets and rangers rush to check the animal's vital signs

0:08:090:08:13

the Safari 8 wait anxiously in the game viewer.

0:08:130:08:17

The young bull is out for the count.

0:08:170:08:19

LOW RUMBLING

0:08:190:08:20

Snoring, blissfully unaware of what's going on around him.

0:08:200:08:24

It's now safe for the Safari 8 to approach.

0:08:240:08:27

Their behaviour on this capture

0:08:270:08:29

could decide which roles they will take in the final challenge.

0:08:290:08:32

Is there any parts we should stay away from?

0:08:320:08:34

No, it's fine. It's fast asleep.

0:08:340:08:37

-Can we touch him?

-Ya, go for it.

0:08:370:08:39

This is the final part of their ranger training,

0:08:390:08:41

so I'm expecting 100% from them.

0:08:410:08:43

It's like the Flintstones, you know?

0:08:440:08:46

The first thing the team need to do

0:08:460:08:48

is place a twig in the elephant's trunk, to keep its airways open.

0:08:480:08:52

You must sit here, and keep looking at his breathing.

0:08:520:08:55

Made up of over 40,000 muscles,

0:08:550:08:58

the trunk is the flexible nose in the animal kingdom.

0:08:580:09:01

DEEP, REVERBERANT BREATH

0:09:010:09:05

It's incredible, It's a wild bull and it's...it's right here! Look!

0:09:050:09:10

I never thought that I would ever see anything so large,

0:09:100:09:15

so beautiful, so hard, just anything like this in my life.

0:09:150:09:19

You can feel this, like, hair.

0:09:190:09:21

Yeah, cos it's a mammal, so it has to have hair.

0:09:210:09:24

Getting this close to a elephant

0:09:240:09:26

is something very few people get to do.

0:09:260:09:29

So this is truly an amazing moment for the team.

0:09:290:09:31

Feels so magical, to just, I don't know, just...

0:09:310:09:36

We touched elephants at the beginning, but these ones are wild

0:09:360:09:39

-so it's really weird.

-It's not even tame at all.

0:09:390:09:43

It's like rock.

0:09:430:09:45

The Safari 8 are here to assist the vets.

0:09:450:09:49

Team leader, Ella, is quick to dish out the jobs.

0:09:490:09:52

Ashleigh and Noma, down there.

0:09:520:09:54

Hair analysis can give clues to diet and behaviour...

0:09:540:09:58

It's hair is like wire.

0:10:000:10:02

..so some research samples are collected from the elephant's tail.

0:10:020:10:06

They also need to collect several blood samples for DNA research.

0:10:060:10:10

See it coming, there? I've got three samples,

0:10:100:10:12

-Somebody else can do another sample.

-Sifiso,

0:10:120:10:15

and then Tomas.

0:10:150:10:16

And it's not just the elephant that's being tested.

0:10:160:10:19

What do you guys know about elephant ears?

0:10:190:10:21

When they're really hot they flap their ears so they can cool down.

0:10:210:10:27

Correct. Elephants use their ears to cool down. They don't sweat.

0:10:270:10:31

If you feel the ear, you have arteries and veins in the ear,

0:10:310:10:35

and that's why you see them flap their ears when it's hot.

0:10:350:10:38

We'll pull this out...

0:10:380:10:39

While the team carry on with the samples,

0:10:390:10:42

it's time to take the elephant's temperature.

0:10:420:10:44

And there's only one way to do that.

0:10:440:10:47

You have to go in.

0:10:470:10:48

-Where?!

-There.

0:10:480:10:50

-That's big!

-Ja, it is. Push it in.

0:10:500:10:53

-Will it jump?

-Push it in. Push in.

0:10:530:10:55

And Caroline better keep her wits about her...

0:10:550:10:58

Ooh, it's touching me!

0:10:580:11:00

..as every day an elephant's gut produces enough methane gas

0:11:000:11:03

to fill eight hot-air balloons.

0:11:030:11:06

-35.4.

-OK, thank you.

0:11:060:11:07

Everything is going according to plan.

0:11:070:11:10

Then, just as Tomas is about to take his turn...

0:11:100:11:13

OK, next blood sample.

0:11:130:11:16

..he faints.

0:11:160:11:17

Tomas! You OK?

0:11:170:11:20

OK, sit down, with your head between you legs.

0:11:200:11:22

Head between your legs. Tomas?

0:11:220:11:24

You all right? You OK, Tomas?

0:11:240:11:27

Tomas had a really strong reaction to seeing blood

0:11:270:11:30

and he just, basically became pale and he just passed out.

0:11:300:11:34

OK, stand still. Stand still.

0:11:340:11:35

I've never fainted before, so it was quite a weird experience.

0:11:350:11:39

I think it was the blood and I woke up quite early as well.

0:11:390:11:43

You all right. OK, wait.

0:11:430:11:47

While Rudi takes Tomas back to the game viewer, to rest,

0:11:470:11:51

time is running out.

0:11:510:11:52

So Ella helps give the elephant an injection to wake it up.

0:11:520:11:55

Move back to the vehicles, please.

0:11:550:11:57

Single file. Single file.

0:11:570:11:59

With Tomas on the mend, the rest of the team join him

0:11:590:12:02

to watch, as the elephant makes a textbook recovery...

0:12:020:12:05

ELEPHANT GRUMBLES

0:12:050:12:07

..and is quickly back on its feet.

0:12:070:12:09

The Safari 8 kids are really impressing me at the moment.

0:12:120:12:16

It's the final day of their ranger training,

0:12:160:12:18

and they're really working as a team.

0:12:180:12:21

Very pleased, well done.

0:12:210:12:22

But, have Ella's leadership skills impressed the mentors?

0:12:220:12:25

Ella is taking the leadership role seriously.

0:12:250:12:28

We'll keep on looking at her throughout the day

0:12:280:12:31

and then we'll see. There's other leaders also in the group.

0:12:310:12:34

With all the team performing so well,

0:12:340:12:37

choosing just one person to be head ranger is going to be a tough job.

0:12:370:12:41

Still to come, with ranger training complete

0:12:440:12:47

preparations for the final challenge begin.

0:12:470:12:49

I am going to try very hard to impress Rudi and Frankie

0:12:490:12:52

with my leadership skills.

0:12:520:12:54

Teamwork, quickly becomes a distant memory...

0:12:540:12:57

If we carry on like this, we won't do too well.

0:12:580:13:01

We need to get our team together.

0:13:010:13:02

and Rudi and Frankie's decisions don't please everyone.

0:13:020:13:06

I'm really not happy with the job I was given.

0:13:060:13:09

If there was any that I didn't want to do, it was that one.

0:13:090:13:12

Over the next two days, the Safari 8 will need to put on

0:13:180:13:21

the ultimate safari experience for their mystery celebrity guests.

0:13:210:13:24

So, Rudi and Frankie have brought the team to where it all begins.

0:13:260:13:30

And there's a lot to do before their guests arrive, in the morning.

0:13:310:13:35

This is the site for your final challenge.

0:13:370:13:40

We've only provided you with an electric fence, some tents and water.

0:13:400:13:46

The rest is up to you. You need to pitch up tents for yourselves,

0:13:460:13:49

for your guests and for me and Frankie.

0:13:490:13:51

You need to figure out where to put the bathroom,

0:13:510:13:55

figure out where to put the kitchen.

0:13:550:13:58

You need to select tent sites. All by yourselves.

0:13:580:14:02

Also, the roles for the final challenge has not been decided yet.

0:14:020:14:06

So this is your last chance to impress us, so we can see

0:14:060:14:11

who is going to do what.

0:14:110:14:13

OK, off you go.

0:14:130:14:16

The only way to get the new camp up and running, is to work as a team.

0:14:180:14:21

And every team needs a strong leader.

0:14:210:14:24

We should first discuss where we want everything to be,

0:14:240:14:27

and then all decide who's going to do this and that.

0:14:270:14:30

I'm going to try very hard to impress Rudi and Frankie.

0:14:300:14:34

I hope I do impress them

0:14:340:14:36

and I hope I do get the position and the role that I want.

0:14:360:14:38

So, maybe if we all did two teams? Four and four?

0:14:380:14:41

And we each put up all the tents, that would go really fast.

0:14:410:14:46

Let's start setting the up then.

0:14:460:14:48

With everyone wanting to take the lead, what could possibly go wrong?

0:14:480:14:53

Pull it out.

0:14:540:14:55

Good work, guys. Keep it up.

0:14:550:14:57

It's not long before aspiring actress Ashleigh,

0:14:570:15:00

quickly takes centre stage.

0:15:000:15:02

Just figuring out where to put our tents.

0:15:020:15:04

As soon as we lay them out flat, we'll be able to see what looks good

0:15:040:15:07

and what doesn't, so we can swap it around.

0:15:070:15:10

I think we can move this one this way a bit, move that one a bit forward,

0:15:100:15:13

then they're surrounding each other.

0:15:130:15:15

But is anyone impressing the mentors?

0:15:150:15:18

Looking at Kushal, he came through the ranks

0:15:180:15:21

these last couple of weeks. Actually impressed me a lot.

0:15:210:15:24

OK, if we open this one here, we've got one more tent left.

0:15:240:15:28

That means we're going to move the others.

0:15:280:15:30

Nomalungelo is the same.

0:15:300:15:31

-Very quiet in the beginning.

-She's grown a lot.

-She's grown a lot.

0:15:310:15:34

We need to tie this in here, so...

0:15:340:15:37

-And Manya, impressed us both...

-Hmm.

-..from the beginning.

0:15:370:15:41

This is important to him. I think he wants the...

0:15:410:15:43

He wants the role.

0:15:430:15:44

We've done a great job, on our second tent already.

0:15:490:15:51

Ha-ha! Kushal's fallen over in the tent!

0:15:540:15:59

Our tent didn't fall. Kushal fell in it. So...

0:15:590:16:03

it's a work in progress, OK?

0:16:030:16:05

As the tents go up...

0:16:050:16:07

Oooh!

0:16:070:16:08

..so do the stress levels.

0:16:080:16:10

You guys need to hurry up. Those poles are bending too much.

0:16:100:16:13

At first, as we started pitching our tents

0:16:150:16:17

we thought we were doing really well.

0:16:170:16:19

Everyone was trying their best...

0:16:190:16:21

Guys, I can't do it if too many people crown round...

0:16:210:16:23

..and then as we got to the last tent, everyone was screaming

0:16:230:16:27

-and there was no chance for someone to lead the group.

-Get on with it.

0:16:270:16:31

Time's a wasting.

0:16:310:16:33

Someone go help Ella, please, on that side.

0:16:340:16:36

They are not listening. They are still just mucking about.

0:16:360:16:39

If we carry on like this, we're not going to do too well.

0:16:390:16:42

We need to get our teamwork together.

0:16:420:16:44

With everyone talking, no-one is listening.

0:16:460:16:48

There's only so much Rudi and Frankie can take.

0:16:480:16:51

Stand still and listen.

0:16:510:16:53

You guys disappoint me.

0:16:550:16:57

There's no leadership here.

0:16:590:17:00

Everybody shouting, to impress us.

0:17:000:17:03

But nobody's working together.

0:17:030:17:05

And Rudi's right.

0:17:050:17:06

Throughout their training the Safari 8 have found teamwork

0:17:060:17:09

the hardest lesson to learn.

0:17:090:17:11

Especially when faced with a challenge.

0:17:110:17:14

It's not a lion, and it's not this.

0:17:140:17:16

To be honest with you, you guys did not work as a team.

0:17:160:17:19

Can you help me? No...you're bending it the wrong way. No.

0:17:190:17:22

Leave that one, let me finish this.

0:17:220:17:24

They can't argue amongst themselves. They have to work as a team

0:17:240:17:27

Otherwise, they are going to confuse the guests they are taking out.

0:17:290:17:33

It's clear to the mentors the only way the Safari 8

0:17:390:17:42

are going to work well as a team, is with a leader.

0:17:420:17:45

Time for a team talk.

0:17:450:17:47

Can any one of you eight tell me what is a leader?

0:17:470:17:51

-Manya?

-A leader is someone who takes charge of the situation

0:17:510:17:54

and gets the people he's working with to work together as a team,

0:17:540:17:58

and get the job done.

0:17:580:17:59

If you are a leader, you talk, people listen.

0:17:590:18:03

Not just everyone throws in ideas, and nothing gets done in the end.

0:18:030:18:06

Whoever's chosen as leader, you guys need to listen to him or her.

0:18:060:18:11

Something needs to happen. OK? We want you guys to succeed.

0:18:110:18:14

You guys can do it. You've got it on you. All of you.

0:18:140:18:17

If we don't work together as a team, there's no way we can do

0:18:170:18:20

he final challenge. Up to this day, we've not been a team,

0:18:200:18:24

and it's really worrying me.

0:18:240:18:26

Challenge starts tomorrow. I see a lot of grim faces.

0:18:260:18:29

If I was a guest, and I see all those glum faces...

0:18:310:18:34

I would turn back and go home.

0:18:340:18:36

..I need some smiles and some positiveness.

0:18:360:18:39

I think I'd be disappointed if we failed the final challenge.

0:18:390:18:42

We've worked so hard and put in so much effort,

0:18:420:18:45

to get the results that I think we all deserve, would be really nice.

0:18:450:18:49

-Are you guys positive?

-Yes.

-Do you think you can do it?

-Yes.

0:18:490:18:52

-Can you?

-YES!

-Yes, exactly.

0:18:520:18:55

As well as mentoring the Safari 8, Rudi and Frankie

0:19:020:19:05

have assessed their progress throughout their training.

0:19:050:19:08

And they will select who takes on which role in the final challenge.

0:19:110:19:15

But, before any decisions are made, the Safari 8 have one last chance

0:19:190:19:23

to pitch for their dream role.

0:19:230:19:26

First to take the hot seat is Manya.

0:19:270:19:29

This is your last opportunity to tell us what you think you should be.

0:19:320:19:36

-Go for it.

-I think I should be head ranger.

0:19:360:19:39

I've really worked hard in the last month, paid attention.

0:19:390:19:43

I do enjoy being the leader of the group,

0:19:430:19:45

and getting everyone to cooperate and manage the team.

0:19:450:19:48

I really enjoy doing that.

0:19:480:19:50

And Ashleigh's also eying up the top slot.

0:19:500:19:53

In the beginning I kind of had Manya in mind, being my head ranger.

0:19:530:19:58

Then when I saw the way he was acting today, or the days before,

0:19:580:20:02

I got the feeling that he never pulled through, to be my leader.

0:20:020:20:06

So then I thought of myself, in his shoes, and I really believe

0:20:060:20:13

I have the confidence and the ability to help this team

0:20:130:20:16

do really, really, really well for the final challenge.

0:20:160:20:20

Next to make his case is Sifiso.

0:20:200:20:23

Well, I see myself in the final challenge as a guide.

0:20:230:20:27

I also thought about head ranger cos I always give a chance

0:20:270:20:31

and listen to other people's opinion.

0:20:310:20:33

So I think I will do a great job leading people.

0:20:330:20:37

Then Ella puts in her pitch.

0:20:370:20:39

It would be great to be head ranger. The opportunity would be excellent.

0:20:390:20:44

But, tracking I love, that's REALLY exciting.

0:20:440:20:47

When I see spoor, it just gives me this feeling of adrenaline

0:20:470:20:50

and it makes me feel so relaxed

0:20:500:20:52

cos then we've got this glimmer of hope that we could find this animal.

0:20:520:20:57

And Kushal's got a dilemma.

0:20:570:21:00

I'm split between head ranger and tracker.

0:21:000:21:03

I like being a leader and stuff.

0:21:030:21:05

I think tracker because I like looking at different spoor.

0:21:050:21:09

Its like a hard job, but it's so fun, spotting everything around,

0:21:090:21:13

seeing tracks, of just say, an elephant, that has gone through.

0:21:130:21:17

That's why I really want to be a tracker.

0:21:170:21:19

Then it's Tomas, who's only got one job in mind.

0:21:190:21:23

I think I probably want to be hospitality.

0:21:230:21:26

I think, because I'm a good entertainer.

0:21:260:21:29

And when we were in the kitchen,

0:21:290:21:30

I thought that I did the meat quite good.

0:21:300:21:33

Nomalungelo is looking at the bigger picture.

0:21:330:21:36

I like hospitality, I like being a guide,

0:21:360:21:40

and maybe a head ranger.

0:21:400:21:42

I like hospitality because

0:21:420:21:44

when you get a triangle, you've got your base and your top.

0:21:440:21:47

And with most of us, the way we view it, the head ranger is at the top

0:21:470:21:51

and hospitality is at the bottom. And if you look at a triangle

0:21:510:21:55

without the bottom or the top, you have nothing.

0:21:550:21:58

Last in is Caroline, and she's not so sure.

0:21:580:22:01

I'd like to do, obviously, the head ranger, the tracker and the guide.

0:22:010:22:05

I think that was cos I felt the head ranger was the better-off person.

0:22:050:22:11

The hospitality were the people you thought weren't the best people

0:22:110:22:14

at the stuff...ranger people.

0:22:140:22:17

Hospitality is not for the people we think can't do a proper job.

0:22:170:22:21

Hospitality is very, very important in the final challenge.

0:22:210:22:24

If the hospitality people mess it up,

0:22:240:22:28

then the whole day can be ruined for the guest.

0:22:280:22:31

They've all had their say.

0:22:320:22:35

Manya,

0:22:350:22:36

Ashleigh,

0:22:360:22:38

Sifiso,

0:22:380:22:40

Nomalungelo,

0:22:400:22:41

Caroline,

0:22:410:22:43

Ella,

0:22:430:22:45

and Kushal all want the top job.

0:22:450:22:48

But only one of them will get it.

0:22:480:22:51

Finally, it's the moment of truth.

0:22:540:22:58

Right, guys, after much deliberation between Frank and myself

0:22:590:23:03

we've come up with the roles for each of you.

0:23:030:23:06

Just to make it very clear to all of you, head ranger is someone

0:23:060:23:10

who takes control. That person is the first one up in the morning,

0:23:100:23:15

and the last one to go to bed.

0:23:150:23:16

It all boils down to the lucky head ranger,

0:23:160:23:21

whoever he or she might be.

0:23:210:23:23

The head ranger will be...

0:23:250:23:28

Don't do this!

0:23:360:23:38

-Congratulations, Manya.

-Well done, Manya.

0:23:410:23:46

You will be taking lead of this squad. We felt that you had

0:23:460:23:49

what it takes to become head ranger, so all the emphasis is on you, now.

0:23:490:23:54

It was so amazing to be chosen as the head ranger. I'm so happy.

0:23:540:23:58

I'll make sure the team wins the challenge.

0:23:580:24:00

We have to, we've come this far, worked so hard.

0:24:000:24:03

We can do it, just teamwork, working together and we'll do it.

0:24:030:24:06

So, for the next roles, the guides.

0:24:060:24:09

The guides are people that can communicate well.

0:24:090:24:12

They need to know everything about what's happening out in the bush.

0:24:120:24:16

They need to know information about animals,

0:24:160:24:19

and the guides are the following...

0:24:190:24:21

Oh, come on.

0:24:240:24:25

Noma.

0:24:270:24:29

Sifiso.

0:24:290:24:32

Ashleigh.

0:24:320:24:34

I'm really happy with my role

0:24:340:24:37

because I know a lot about the animals

0:24:370:24:39

and I can't wait to tell our guests all about them.

0:24:390:24:42

OK, the trackers. Trackers need to know how to track animals,

0:24:420:24:47

they need to know what the spoor looks like, how fresh it is.

0:24:470:24:51

They need to know information, like the guides, about the animals.

0:24:510:24:54

And the tracker team is...

0:24:540:24:57

Ella...

0:24:570:24:59

.and Kushal.

0:25:010:25:04

I think being a tracker is a very important job.

0:25:040:25:07

You have to find animals for your guest, or they won't see anything.

0:25:070:25:12

It can be a difficult job, but extremely fun.

0:25:120:25:14

So far, so good. Everyone's happy.

0:25:140:25:18

but, with only two positions left in hospitality,

0:25:180:25:21

is that all about to change?

0:25:210:25:23

You guys are in charge of entertaining the guests.

0:25:230:25:26

making sure their is sufficient food on the table,

0:25:260:25:29

and all day-to-day runnings of this camp.

0:25:290:25:33

Congratulations, Tomas.

0:25:330:25:35

And then last but not least,

0:25:370:25:39

Caroline.

0:25:390:25:41

Really not happy with the job I was given. It was like,

0:25:410:25:46

if there was anything that I didn't want to do, it was that.

0:25:460:25:49

I really didn't want to do it.

0:25:490:25:51

All right, guys, now that you all know what you are doing

0:25:520:25:55

in the final challenge, good luck.

0:25:550:25:57

-ALL:

-Thank you.

0:25:570:25:59

With the mystery celebrity guests arriving in the morning,

0:25:590:26:03

newly appointed head ranger, Manya, takes charge.

0:26:030:26:06

On the game-drive, we'll have two vehicles.

0:26:060:26:09

one for the guests and the guides, at the back.

0:26:090:26:12

Myself and the two trackers will go in the front and look for tracks

0:26:120:26:18

and find pathways. You guys agree?

0:26:180:26:20

ALL: Yes.

0:26:200:26:21

OK, so let's go.

0:26:210:26:24

With the trackers and guides organised,

0:26:240:26:26

Manya checks on the hospitality team's progress.

0:26:260:26:29

-This is the bathroom.

-Ja, I think it's really nice.

0:26:290:26:34

I like that it's shaded, and also it will stop the smell coming through.

0:26:340:26:39

I just feel that I'm not involved enough.

0:26:390:26:42

It's not the massivest job. I wanted something to do with the animals

0:26:420:26:46

and something... a really exciting job.

0:26:460:26:49

Just make sure they're always happy, they've got food, bedroom's tidy,

0:26:490:26:53

the toilet's tidy.

0:26:530:26:55

It sounds like we're getting turned into maids

0:26:550:26:58

and that was one of the reasons why I didn't want to do this.

0:26:580:27:02

Would you like me and Caroline to do...a dance?

0:27:020:27:05

Yeah, that might be nice, cos it will be really fun, a nice laugh.

0:27:050:27:09

Clearly Frankie and Rudy had a reason so we've just got to do our best,

0:27:090:27:13

and work together, as a team.

0:27:130:27:15

We have to work as a team, not eight individuals.

0:27:150:27:19

As one. On team. Eight people together as one.

0:27:190:27:23

Next time, on Safari 8.

0:27:240:27:26

The final challenge gets underway as the two celebrity guests arrive.

0:27:260:27:31

The team go in search of the Big Five.

0:27:330:27:35

A bit worrying we've only seen one of the Big Five.

0:27:350:27:38

An elephant, and it's already afternoon.

0:27:380:27:40

And, will a last minute panic end in disaster?

0:27:400:27:43

Is it possible we could have more time?
