Our search for Britain's top young performers continues

and it's all in aid of Sport Relief.

Three acts will battle it out for that all-important

position on the Glee Club leaderboard.

So they'll need to be on the top of their game

if they want a spot in the live finals.

Before all that, let's meet a woman who needs no introduction,

but we are going to give her one anyway.

She dances with wolves, laughs in the face of danger,

even finds time to teach Mary Berry a few things about baking.

It is, of course, Naomi Wilkinson.

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

-You are sparkly.

-You two are sharp.

-Oh, thank you very much.

Now, Naomi, I know, you know, we make fun of all the scary,

-dangerous stuff that you do but we don't mean any harm.

-Oh, really?

-We don't.

-Well, that's kind of you.

Cos it isn't always easy being surrounded by spiders

and crawling through dark caves and stuff.

-Naomi, we know exactly what you're talking about.

What dangerous stuff do you two do?

Well, I had a particularly hot cup of tea the other day.

-Almost burnt my lip, so...

-Yeah.

But we do do really daring stuff and adventurous stuff, you know.

I mean, take a look at this picture of us diving with sharks.

Yeah, and there's also this one of you two

relaxing in your pink, fluffy dressing gowns.

Now it's time to meet four demigods of the music world.

Please, offer up your pocket money and bow down at their greatness.

And hello to the lovely, lovely David Grant. Isn't he lovely?

What are you hoping for from today's acts?

Well, I think all of us are looking for three things.

We are looking for inner life, we want to be entertained

-and we want to be impressed.

-Excellent.

Judges, if you'd like to make your way over to your seats.

Whilst they do that, let's find out a little bit more

about our expert panel.

They are THE top coaches in the industry

and have worked with massive acts like Madonna and Take That.

It's the judges.

Choreographer Sisco has worked with Alexandra Burke

and Kylie Minogue, to name but two.

He also puts the contestants through their paces backstage

on the X Factor.

Carrie and David are vocal coaches to the stars.

They've worked with an impressive list of pop artists including

The Saturdays, Marvin Humes and even Gwyneth Paltrow.

John has worked behind the scenes on top shows like the X Factor

and The Voice and with a variety of celebrities including JLS

and Leona Lewis.

It's the judges.

-Oh, they are good, our judges.

-Very good. Very good.

Now, for the important bit.

15 groups have made it through to the heats.

Today, three of those acts will battle it out for our experts,

who will be scoring them on vocal ability, creativity and performance.

All four judges will be giving marks out of ten for each

of the disciplines so there are plenty of points to be won.

And, in the unlikely event of a tie,

head judge Carrie will decide who gets the medals.

The acts with the top five scores across the heats

will then compete in the live finals where it will be

up to you at home to vote for your favourite.

And the winners will take home this fantastic

Sport Life Does Glee Club 2014 trophy.

Yeah, well, whilst you check down the back of the sofa for any loose

change, let's find out how Naomi's getting on with the groups backstage.

-So, BuSKerS, who is this with you today?

-This is Bear-emy, our mascot.

Bear-emy. I like his name. And how does he bring you luck?

I don't know. We always have him in rehearsals so it just brings us joy

and he says BuSKerS when you press the little button.

-Does it still do that?

-Yeah.

Oh! You've got to love that. Fantastic.

..you are the only returning group to Sport Relief Does Glee Club.

-How does that feel?

-Exciting.

-Are you really pleased about that?

-Yeah.

-Do you think it gives you an advantage being that you've

been together so long and worked together a lot?

Well, I think that because we've been together so long that we all,

like, know each other's strengths and weaknesses and we just work with it.

Feed off each other on the stage. Well, good luck to you guys as well.

How good are they? They're fantastic.

-Now, you lot are, I understand, rehearsing all over the place.

-Yes.

-What do we just place you've found yourself rehearsing?

-On a train.

We had a five-hour train journey so we thought

we would just take over the whole carriage and practise the whole way.

-A busy commuter train?

-Yeah.

-That must have been quite funny.

-It was.

And haven't you got some other hidden talents amongst you?

Can someday make pterodactyl sounds?

All our acts arrived in Glasgow yesterday so we sent them out for

the day to see if they could get to know each other a little bit better.

Here's how they got on.

The Peppermints, BuSKerS and A-List were treated to a chocolate-making

experience right in the heart of Glasgow.

We are the BuSKerS and we're from Bristol.

But before they became trainee chocolatiers, there was

a chance to catch up on some Glee Club gossip.

We, like, prefer costume rehearsals to decide what we are wearing.

Apparently, chocolate is bad for your voice.

I could live on chocolate.

So, you can decide which colour chocolate you'd like to

make your lollipop with.

I just want to lick the table.

It was really funny sharing the glee experiences as well.

All the troubles we've went through. That was good.

Yeah, it was nice hearing about, like,

other people's funny stories from along the way.

Let's see what the judges thought of those performances.

Carrie, what did you think?

All three, all really good performances.

BuSKerS, I loved you at the auditions.

I love your uniqueness.

I felt today that there was just a lack of inner life.

The sort of energy just wasn't quite there for me.

I thought The Peppermints, there's only five of you,

yet making the most lovely sound.

Let's remember, you're a lot younger than the other groups around you,

so your sound is younger, but it's still lovely.

And you, lovely lady in the front, you are just brilliant.

Just giving it 100%, anger, attitude, brilliant.

And finally, A-List, I felt like I just watched a stage show.

That was lovely choreography.

Kind of pop, kind of musical theatre, really good.

Lovely performance, some really good vocals. Thank you.

APPLAUSE

David, did you think that was a good version of Applause?

Yeah, it was a very good version.

Three very different versions of Applause.

Firstly BuSKerS, it was really nice unison. It was very tight.

I loved the blend of voices on it.

I think what Carrie was saying was right, if felt a little bit passive.

I want you to jeer it up a bit. Give it more energy.

Give it more self belief. You're good, start singing like you are

and performing like you are.

You guys, Peppermints, well, you're little sweeties, aren't you?

You're just like really lovely harmonies.

Really brilliant, brash, bright energy.

And over to A-List, it felt like watching a well-oiled machine.

You guys are really smooth. You really trust one another.

You know what each other is doing.

And very good use of the male voice in the lower harmony in the chorus.

John, your thoughts, please.

I just have to say I'm very proud of each and everyone up here.

You did very well to get here, to the heats right now.

Those performances, full of energy and I think you gave it 100%.

The points are going to speak for themselves, so fingers crossed.

Finally, Sisco, which act did it for you?

Well, I think my judges are just really happy today

because I feel Scrooge in the corner here.

I feel like if all three of you want to get to the finals, show me that

desperation, excitement, charisma.

Like, guys, we all need to wake up.

This is an opportunity of a lifetime, take it with both hands.

Sing and dance like you've never done it in your lives

because at the moment, yeah, it was OK, but...

nothing final worthy in my opinion.

Well, food for thought for Round 2.

Whilst we check and verify the scores for Round 1,

A-List take an early lead

with 82 points.

Followed The Peppermints on 70.

And BuSKerS on 49 points.

But with 120 points available

to each group in Round 2,

it could all change.

Are we relived that that bit is over?

All breathing a sigh of relief.

BuSKerS, did you enjoy the applause from our audience?

-It was loud.

-It was loud in there, wasn't it?

Carrie said she loved you before,

she's saying you maybe lacking a bit of inner life today.

What would you like to say about that? What's happening?

It's not like what you really want to hear.

If we can just turn that into a positive and then make that into our

motivation to go and do better in Round 2 then...

Well, I thought that was a bit harsh

because all the other groups are fabulous as well.

Carrie said it was like watching stage show.

But Sisco, he is having a bit of a grumpy day, isn't he?

You've all got this opportunity of a lifetime.

How would you like to respond to that?

Well, I think we agree with the other groups.

I think everyone's been fabulous today, so I think we all just need

to go out and show him that we're all final worthy.

I think we've really got a lot of motivation now to go out

-and just really push.

BuSKerS didn't even need a backing track

when they first performed in Bristol.

Good team spirit. You nailed it.

And the judges were in awe of their a cappella sound in Glasgow.

Wow. A cappella, that is so brave.

You, young lady on the end, you have one of the best blend voices

I've heard in a number of years. Fantastic.

My question is - why do you look so terrified?

If I sounded that good, I would be so pleased with myself.

To hear those kind of comments from them, that is just incredible.

I'm still starstruck.

The fifth group going through the studio heats is BuSKerS.

But can BuSKerS build on their vocal blend and deliver a confident

and charismatic performance in the studio heats?

-How have your rehearsals been going?

-We've done loads.

Have you? Tell me about them.

-Everyday.

-Everyday you've been rehearsing?

Every morning and break time in school.

-And then we did a couple of hours on Saturday as well.

-And after school.

We shouldn't get further into the competition being something that we're not.

And we're not all jazz hands, but, yeah, we've got

this far being as we are.

Hopefully our best will be good enough to get us into

the next round. Fingers crossed.

Yeah! David, do you think BuSKerS should be proud of that performance?

Where did that come from?!

LAUGHTER

I really, really liked the sounds of your voice - is it Rashid?

Your lead voice, you have such an ease and a warmth to your voice.

You know, there are little bits

where it got complex towards the end,

it wasn't perfectly in time, it wasn't perfectly in synergy,

but I would say that overall,

that's the best performance you've given.

You can get better, but take that as a very good performance.

John, did you enjoy it?

Yeah, I actually did enjoy it.

I thought it was very good.

The thing is, with you guys, is that it's so difficult.

The reality is that your vocal ability is so good -

I know that, I can hear those voices.

What lets you down is the performance.

It's almost like you don't believe in yourselves in term of that.

I'd actually strip away all of your choreography,

just get you to stand right there and just sing.

You, young lady, have a fantastic voice.

Where did you get that note? My goodness!

-Excellent. Thank you.

-Brilliant.

Sisco, was that the right song choice, do you reckon?

I think it was the right song choice for you guys.

For me, it was my favourite musicals ever.

I love Rent to bits, I love everything about it.

And I was just going "Come on, come on..."

And then you, young lady, with that beautiful note at the end,

I was like, "Why didn't she just take the lead vocals?"

Clearly, you have a range, you're able to sing

and I think this group needs to play with their strengths and just,

you know, perform a bit more.

Perform like you're just living on stage, cos at the moment,

I thought you guys were scared of all the lights.

We're not here to judge you, we're here to support you, you see?

So you need to just...perform with a bit more intensity.

OK - Carrie, your thoughts, please?

I think it feels like we're now up to the next level in the competition

and, you guys, it feels raggedy.

It doesn't feel rehearsed enough to me.

I think you need to start listening to one another,

watching one another.

I agree with what John said -

I'd rather you just stand still, to be honest,

because the dancing was so awkward.

The singing is so good, that's your strength.

If you get through, that's what you've got to concentrate on.

I thought they were a bit tough on you, to be honest.

I thought you were lovely. I was singing along backstage.

-To beat expectations.

Really? So what are you feeling, after that?

Well, the fact that they said we hadn't rehearsed enough, and...

We did rehearse, so much,

and we tried taking on their comments from last time,

but they didn't really pick up on the fact that's what we improved on.

So it felt particularly harsh, did you think?

Yes, just, cos, like, they hadn't even noticed how we tried

to look more like a group and look more together.

But there were some really lovely comments to you.

-Alice, they mentioned your voice.

-Yeah. I just want to say thank you.

I think we all blend really nicely together as a group

-and I think we chose the right song.

-Yeah.

So you do think you've made improvements since last time?

Definitely - since a couple of months ago,

when we first started with the original auditions,

we have improved a vast amount

and we've worked really, really hard on it.

What I love about you guys is that there is not one weak link.

Everywhere I look on the stage,

there is a 100% performance going on. Brilliant.

Soon as you guys smiled, it just made me smile

and it made me enjoy the performance, like, ten times as much

-as I originally did.

OK, well done guys. John, what did you think of that performance?

Yeah, I'm a Peppermints fan now! That was good.

Listen, I think the reality is it started off a bit pitchy,

but I think it's cos it's just that bass note.

It's hard to find it. What I loved about you girls is you recovered so quickly.

You found your groove, you got in there and gave a solid performance.

That was good, very good.

-Cisco, was that a good song choice?

It was a good song choice. I think it suits your look.

You guys are fresh, you're fun, you're funky.

It was a really contemporary song. I really enjoyed it. I love the original song.

I think you did the song justice. What I liked about it

is that your harmonies were very clear from beginning to end, so there's consistency.

One thing I'm going to say to you guys - you will need to let loose a little more.

Cos I think you guys have got the potential to be amazing.

Carrie, were you impressed with The Peppermints?

I was really impressed. I felt that it got better as it went along.

So by the end of it I felt like you'd nailed it.

I mean, the thing is it's hard to sing in a way that you have not got a lot of backing.

So there are times when you're going to be uncertain about whether you're in or not.

And the odd time I could read you were uncertain - "Am I in key?"

You know, "Are we bang in tune?" But take that away,

rehearse more, practice more. Take the inhibitions off

and follow that little crazy girl at the front and be crazy!

That's her. Just leave everything on the stage.

Throw as much energy as you've got at it.

I think that you'll find you can even go up a gear from that.

A-List brought their A game when they first met John in Glasgow.

Very good. You've definitely given me something to think about.

The experts were in agreement about where the group could improve.

I love the choreography that you had.

You just needed a bit more punch in your performance.

For me, it just lacks energy, and so somehow,

you've got to get those vocals attached to the visual presentation.

Vocally, really beautiful.

It was good.

All the judges kind of agreed what we need to work on so we've got a focus.

We can try and build up and get better and have more attitude.

The fourth group going through to the studio heat is A-List.

So, can A-List delivered the snappy performance that the judges

are looking for when they take to the stage in the studio heats?

Is it overwhelming when you come in here and suddenly go, this is it?

-A bit.

-Yeah, it is.

But I think we are more excited that we actually made it here,

because last year we didn't make it to this stage.

We're just, like, make the most of it.

What are you going to do to make sure you beat the others?

Pull out all the stops, go for it.

We're just going to show them how happy we are to actually be here.

They are the last act to perform for the judges

and hoping to be top of the leaderboard.

-I did.

I finally see a group that uses the strongest strategy. Obviously...

-What's your name, young lady?

-Rebecca.

-Rebecca.

Obviously, lead vocals for a reason.

Maybe she's the strongest vocalist, and I can see it, it was good,

it was solid. I wish you guys performed a little more.

When it came to the choreography, it was a little safe,

but to be honest, it's the most polished routine we've seen today.

APPLAUSE

Carrie, what are your thoughts?

My thoughts are that I remember you in the first auditions,

and I remember saying you lacked snap and you lacked energy.

I can't believe this is the same group that

I saw back in the auditions, and what I love is when people go away

and they take what has been said on board and they apply it.

You guys are real contenders.

David, are A-List living up to their name?

I think they are, actually.

That's one of my favourite songs, so when you love a song,

you kind of judge it more harshly. I thought it was good, very good.

I thought it was the best performance we've seen in this show.

I liked your voice very much. I liked the harmonies.

I thought there could be a bit more aggression

and attitude in the harmonies on the choruses particularly.

I just think the song has a kind of attack that it requires that

you didn't completely give, but it's a big step up from where you were.

But if you get through, you need to step up again.

-John, finally, what did you think?

-Do you know what? I love you guys.

I think you're really, really good. I think you have stepped up.

I think you are definitely for me, at the moment,

-you're the ones to beat.

-OK.

I just feel they have to push up a little bit to make that blend.

with the first round, but they all upped their game in the second round,
