Last time, MT13 and Abstract

stormed on to the leader board.

Today, it's the last chance for our three remaining groups

to make it into the top five and book a place in the semifinal.

Who will wow the judges?

Our search for Britain's top young performers continues

and it's all in aid of Sport Relief.

Today, three acts will battle it out for that all-important place

on the Glee Club leader board

and they'll be performing in front of a studio audience

and our expert panel of judges

for a place in the live finals.

But before all that, let's welcome a woman who,

in a certain light, looks a lot like Lady Gaga,

-but without all the weird stuff.

-Yeah.

She's our backstage spy and roving reporter.

I have heard, right,

the BBC are looking for two new sports commentators.

I ran it past Jedward, but they were busy,

so I though maybe you two would want to have a go.

Yeah, we've always wanted to be commentators.

Yeah, imagine us, commentating on the World Cup, the Olympics...

the International Thumb Wrestling Championships.

-I've written you something you can use at your audition.

where you need to be upstanding for showbiz royalty.

They're better known as the judges, but for one link and one link only,

we'll give them their royal titles.

Ladies, gentlemen, boys and girls,

Ken on camera four,

please welcome Queen Carrie, King David, Prince Sisco

and third under-butler twice removed John Modi!

Oh, judges, lovely to have you here. All looking fabulous, as ever!

Carrie, what are we expecting from today's acts?

-Well, I'd like them to sing in tune, that would be really good.

-Yeah.

And once they've done that,

we'd like them to have lots of identity and individuality.

Nicely put, head judge Carrie.

So with that in mind, why don't you take yourself over to your seats?

And while they do that, let's find why our professionals

are so perfect for the job - take a look at this.

They are the top coaches in the industry

and have worked with massive acts like Madonna and Take That -

it's the judges!

John has worked behind the scenes

on shows like The X Factor and The Voice,

and with a variety of celebrities including JLS and Leona Lewis.

Choreographer Sisco has worked with Alexandra Burke and Kylie Minogue

to name but two.

He also puts the contestants through their paces

backstage on The X Factor.

Carrie and David are vocal coaches to the stars.

They've worked with an impressive list of pop artists,

including The Saturdays, Marvin Humes,

even Gwyneth Paltrow.

It's the judges!

Who knew the judges were so talented?

Now for the important bit -

15 groups have made it through to the heats.

Today, three of those acts will battle it out for our experts

who will score them on vocal ability,

creativity and performance.

All four judges will be giving marks out of ten

for each of the disciplines,

so there are plenty of points to be won.

In the unlikely event of a tie,

head judge Carrie will decide who gets the medals.

The acts with the top five scores across the heats

will then compete in the live finals

where it will be up to YOU at home to vote for your favourite!

And the winners will take home

this priceless Sport Relief Does Glee Club 2014 trophy!

I always wondered what they did with Sisco's unwanted bling -

yes, they've turned it into the Glee Club trophy.

It would appear so.

Let's find out how Naomi's getting on with the groups backstage.

We are pumped backstage, boys.

We are ready to sing our first song, aren't we, everybody?

ALL: Yes!

Here's Musicality, we've got React and we've got #BOOM!

#BOOM, before we saw you the first time,

you'd only rehearsed for three days.

How much rehearing have you been doing since?

-A lot.

-More than three days.

-How much have you been rehearsing?

-Like, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

-Every week.

-No social life whatsoever.

-It's all gone.

Let's hope all that hard work pays off.

Now, React, you've got a lucky charm in Tom the Smiler, I understand.

-Your nickname is Smiler, is it?

-Yeah.

-The girls are laughing cos they know you're always smiling.

-Pretty much.

Nice! Will you try and charm the judges?

-How will you charm them with that smile?

-Just keep smiling.

Musicality, we've got some returning members,

most of you have done this before.

What would it mean to you lot to get through to the semifinals?

-ALL: So much.

-Really?

How much have you been rehearsing?

-All the time.

-Loads.

Luke, I understand you eat a lot of pizza during rehearsals.

Obsessed with it.

And does that just make your rehearsal room smell quite bad?

-No.

-What do the girls think of that?

-They keep asking for more some.

-He won't share it?

-GIRLS: No!

-He eats all the pizza.

No, I love it, though!

Oh, well, fair enough. I hope it's given you energy for today.

Now, all our glee clubs arrived in Glasgow yesterday.

We sent them out for a day trip

so they could find out a bit more about each other

and here is what happened.

When Musicality, React and #BOOM! met for the first time in Glasgow,

it was a bit colder than they bargained for.

ALL: We're React and we're from Brighton.

Brr!

-ALL:

-We are #BOOM! and we're from London.

THEY CHEER

-ALL:

-We're Musicality and we're from Port Talbot.

-Oggie, oggie, oggie...

-Oi, oi, oi!

But before they hit the slopes, there was a chance to break the ice

and make some new friends.

It's going to be really fun, doing ice climbing.

Tongue freeze - it's all good.

I'm going sleighing - pretty simple, just slide.

SCREAMING

When I first saw the course,

I thought we were going down a straight hill.

Then I saw those turns and I thought, "Not doing that!"

If it isn't bad enough, I have to carry this thing up!

-I heard you moaning about your activity.

-It's not my fault.

There was, like...snow in my face.

Diva!

HE LAUGHS

Ice climbing is far more scary than singing on a stage.

I have packed my lucky pants

and I will be wearing them tomorrow.

But they clearly helped in the last round,

so I'm hoping they'll help in this round.

They are washed, so...

Maybe.

I heard them screaming, "Go on, Becca, you can do this!"

-"Do it for Wales!"

-Everyone was looking at us, then.

-Well done.

-Whoo!

I was scared at times,

and I felt like I was just going to drop and give up.

But, you know, for the team, I just powered on.

One time, in rehearsal,

one of my teachers made me laugh so hard,

I was nearly sick.

Nice start to the show - let's see what the judges thought.

Carrie, what did you think?

For Musicality,

I thought you gave me the best vocal performance.

There was almost the Wall of Sound,

which I love - almost. Nearly there.

Fantastic, really good vocals and a great unity of sound.

React, I felt the vocals, when they were good, were really good,

but they were in and out a little in the tuning,

so you just need to watch your pitching.

And for #BOOM! -

interesting, only five of you. Really good sound.

Loved the sign language idea, but...

two out of three were really performing facially

and three out of the five were not giving any facial expression at all.

You cannot sing a song like that and not feel it, not feel the emotion.

So there's a lot to play for. There's a lot to play for.

-David, did you like what you saw?

-Really liked what I saw.

Musicality, I love your vocal sound. I love the choreography.

The minus is that it got slightly weaker on the choruses.

It didn't keep up the same intensity.

React - who's the low-voiced singer in React?

It's you, isn't it? I love your use of your voice.

You've got the voice of a fat, 40-year-old man with a beard.

And you make it really work in that group.

My minus is that it was a little bit raggedy at times.

Had you got it all bang-on, all of you,

it would've been amazing.

#BOOM! OK - what I love, I love the unity of your blend

and I love the signing.

The minus, for me, is that the focus didn't stay.

The focus wasn't there on the faces the whole time.

It wasn't the complete performance that I'm sure you can deliver.

I'll be looking for that in the next round.

John, your thoughts, please?

Yeah, can I just say...?

As far as vocally, this, for me,

is probably the strongest round I've seen.

All three of you, very strong vocals.

Musicality, I've said it before,

dunno what it is about the Welsh, it's just...music comes out of you.

It's fantastic.

React, you're the classiest boy band I've ever seen. Fantastic.

And of course, #BOOM!

I've met you guys in person, I know what you're like.

You've got that attitude and it's a great sound

and I'm looking forward to seeing you in the next round.

Finally, Sisco, which act did it for you?

To be honest, all three of them have the same positives and negatives.

I'm going to give you a word of advice for all of you, together.

You guys have to rehearse more.

I feel like everyone started off great

and then it diminished as the song ended,

vocally and with your performance.

Play with your strengths only, guys.

You want a place in the finals, I need to see it.

OK - guys, you going to take those comments on board for Round 2?

-ALL: Yeah.

-Good, focus! That's what we want.

out of a possible 120 points, is...

And finally, the judges' combined score for #BOOM! is...

Very close. Still one more challenge to go.

But before that, let's take a look at the scoreboard after Round 1.

Musicality have 78 points,

React follow closely with 77 points,

but #BOOM! are in the lead

with 83 points.

With 120 points available

to each group in Round 2,

it's still all to play for.

John said best Round 1 so far...

-ALL: Whoo!

-Yeah!

Hey, Musicality - you had some lovely comments, didn't you?

ALL: Yeah.

Sisco said he thinks everybody needs to rehearse more.

-How would you like to respond?

-We've rehearsed quite a bit.

Loads, actually. I think it was quite a difficult song,

the key was quite difficult, because sometimes,

it was really low or really high for you to tuck it up the octave.

Maybe it just sounded a bit weaker in areas because of that.

What are you giving them in your next song?

We're going to try our hardest, our very hardest,

-to push it to the limit.

-Give them goose bumps.

Reach new heights, give them goose bumps. Good idea.

Let's go to the classiest boyband than John has ever seen.

How did that make you feel, him saying that?

-Amazing, yeah.

-You're really pleased.

How do you think they are going to "react" to your next song?

-Hopefully...

-Took me ages to think of that.

-Hopefully really well.

-What do you have lined up?

and...I think, cos the scores are so close,

it's all to play for, so just got to really bring it.

That was one of our key points, so...we need to work on that.

-That was so well rehearsed. Fantastic choreography.

So you've gone for a slower, more emotional song.

Why have you chosen one like that?

In the past, we've chosen really upbeat ones,

and we want to kind of go for a different effect this year,

touch the judges instead of happy, joyful dance kind of thing.

-Show them your versatility?

-ALL: Yes.

I really, really want to just push that extra bit now to get to

the semifinals, and then we really want to win it this year.

I think if I were you I'd be so proud,

That was exquisite.

It was absolutely fantastic.

-Yeah, it's unbelievable.

No-one does choral singing like you guys. I'm just really blown away.

I think a lot of groups and a lot of singers

and artists could learn something from that.

Sisco, were the vocals good enough?

-I'm going to disagree with David. I wasn't blown away.

-Ooh!

Oh, my goodness.

Honestly, every harmony, every layer was so visible.

It sounded so angelic. You didn't do too much of the choreography.

It accompanied the arrangement perfectly. Perfection.

You look like marshmallows, the lot of you. I love it.

-And finally, Carrie, what did you think?

-Just exquisite.

Really, really exquisite.

Tasteful, beautiful, no weak links, no weak performers.

All the vocals beautifully sung, beautifully blended.

Yeah, that was the perfect performance.

-I think it's safe to say they liked that!

-I saw Carrie crying and I just started crying!

I think they all mean equal... Like Sisco...

They were all amazing comments.

We couldn't have asked for anything better.

That was exactly what we wanted to do.

And to see Carrie in tears was just amazing for us.

and you certainly did that.

Let take a look at React and how they got to the studio heats.

John was impressed by Glee Club's very own boy band, React, in London.

And the boys from Brighton got the reaction

they wanted from the judges in Glasgow.

Now, this is a glee club.

The breadth of harmonies from top to bottom are huge.

I absolutely love your sound.

It was clean choreographically, clean vocally. Really well done.

So how does that feel?

It's nerve-racking but it's so much fun at the same time.

The third group going through to the studio heats is...

React.

Who didn't react.

But can React charm their way to the live finals with

a show-stopping performance in the studio heats?

Are you going to actually look at the judges?

-Do you think you'll look them in the eye?

-ALL: Yes.

They're the people we're trying to impress,

so they need to get the performance as much as everyone else.

Being the only boy group,

it's just like no-one's ever been a boy group before,

so it's just like we're React and we're coming to represent the boys.

Hopefully it will make other boys want to do it more.

Yes, I loved the style of it. I loved the choreography.

The choreography kind of went with the boy thing and the suits and...

I would say the vocals suffered a little bit.

I'm sorry to be negative, but they were really out of tune in places.

But overall it was an excellent performance.

-Yeah, it was fun.

To sing a song like that, which is all about exuberance and joy

and everything - if you're not selling that,

not feeling that, if you're looking stressed and

worried and fretful, it doesn't come across.

And you looked like - mistakes, whatever - you were going to

have a blast.

And I'm really pleased with you for that, because you came out

and you did what you wanted to do and you made us have fun, too.

I think it's cos we put in too many harmonies.

I did enjoy it. I think, um...

You have this tone that's incredible, and I just felt like...

The gentleman over there - you seemed very nervous.

You just didn't give it enough, and I think, Casey, you were the weapon.

It was a good performance, but I just wanted it to be great,

because I know it can be. I can see the potential.

OK. Carrie, your thoughts, please.

I felt there was a really uniform performance, and I love the sound.

I love your unison sound.

When you're singing all together, it's really, really strong.

I kind of agree with what Sisco says in that you are the secret

weapon of this group, and therefore, you have to work to your strengths.

That's not to make anyone else feel bad,

it's just you have to know what your strengths are.

OK, thank you, Carrie.

David, is it a song that you would have chosen for them?

Yeah, definitely. I loved the choreography.

Loved the uniformity of movement.

I think that you guys together are really, really strong,

and I think that when you sing together, it's really strong.

You move together like one.

I felt that that was a really good performance.

And John, finally, what did you think of it?

Yeah, definitely, Casey, you have incredible inner life.

When you sing, you have stage presence,

and that's something special, but I think they're being hard on you.

I think... Shem, is that your name?

I think you did very well on your solos as well.

I think that was the attitude. You're the only male in the band.

I think it was excellent.

The reality is that is a huge song, and I don't know many people

your age who could deliver it the way you did,

so I think that was excellent.
