-It was a lovely day.

-The shadows

-were all playing with their people.

-Have you ever seen your shadow?

-Yes, everyone has a shadow.

-We can see them when the sun shines.

-If we look on the ground

-or the walls...

-..we can see our shapes

-doing exactly the same as us.

-Now then, our shadows are there

-all the time...

-..even when there's no sunshine.

-The sunshine helps us

-see them clearly.

-They love the sun.

-When it's a fine day,

-our shadows come out to play.

-When the sun rises, they run to

-their people and stay close to them.

-They stay out all day

-until the sun sets again.

-They run, skip, play on the swing,

-go for a picnic...

-..and splash in puddles.

-They have a wonderful time.

-The people do exactly

-what the shadows do.

-Even in the winter sun...

-..when the air is fresh and cold...

-..they still appear.

-They go for long walks

-and throw snowballs.

-They also build snowmen.

-The snowmen have shadows too.

-They don't do much, mind.

-They stand there,

-just like the snowmen...

-..until they disappear slowly.

-Now then, where was I?

-Ah, yes.

-It was a wonderful morning.

-It was early and the shadows

-were getting ready...

-..for a fun day with their people.

-Gari the shadow was looking forward

-to joining Gari the boy.

-Gari the boy

-was visiting his cousin Elis.

-Gari the shadow hadn't seen

-Elis the shadow for a while.

-Emili the shadow had heard that

-Emili the girl was visiting Popi.

-This meant that Emili the shadow

-would see Popi the shadow...

-..her best friend.

-They'd spend their day talking

-and playing with their shadow toys.

-Dewi the shadow had heard

-that Dewi the boy...

-..was attending a football match.

-Football matches on a fine day

-were great.

-It meant that the football shadows

-would play too.

-And so, Dewi the shadow and Dewi the

-boy could have a game to remember.

-But one shadow wasn't having

-as much fun as the others.

-His name was Alffi.

-He wasn't going out

-to play in the sunshine.

-He preferred staying indoors.

-If he went out,

-he'd sit under a tree...

-..watching the other shadows

-having fun.

-"Come on, Alffi," the other shadows

-would shout, "Come and play with us.

-"It's a lovely sunny day -

-perfect for all kinds of shadows."

-But Alffi would just sit down

-and grab his knees.

-He wanted to join in so much...

-..but he couldn't.

-There was good reason for this.

-Alffi the shadow

-didn't have Alffi the boy.

-He didn't have a person to follow.

-Without one of those,

-there is no shadow.

-Alffi was sad but he enjoyed

-listening to the stories...

-..about the fun the other shadows

-had with their people.

-But he knew

-he could never join them.

-Not until he had Alffi the boy.

-"He must be out there somewhere,"

-said Dewi the shadow one day.

-"I don't think so

-or I would have seen him by now."

-"Why don't you go and look for him?"

-said Emili.

-"Maybe you should go to him."

-"That sounds easy," said Alffi.

-"It's not, is it?

-"Even if Alffi the boy

-is out there...

-"..I don't think

-he wants a shadow at all.

-"What's that supposed to mean?"

-asked Gari the shadow.

-"Well, your people

-follow you around all day long.

-"You're so good at having fun.

-"I don't know how to have fun."

-"Look, why don't you join us

-in the sun tomorrow?

-"Come on, try it."

-said Dewi the shadow.

-"Maybe," replied Alffi.

-But, deep down, he didn't think

-he'd ever go out in the sun.

-He was too sad.

-Well,

-the sun rose the following day.

-Up over the hills, filling the world

-with its golden glow.

-Gari, Emili and Dewi the shadows

-were ready for it.

-But, as they stepped

-into the sunshine, Gari said...

-.."Hey, what about Alffi?

-"Our people are all going to

-the park today for a school picnic.

-"There'll be plenty

-of shadows there.

-"No-one will notice Alffi

-without his boy.

-"We'll go and fetch him."

-Emili and Dewi thought this

-was an excellent idea.

-They went to search for Alffi.

-Alffi the shadow was heading towards

-the leafy tree to sit under it.

-"No excuses," said Emili,

-"Up you come and stay close to us.

-"We're going to the school picnic

-in the park."

-Alffi the shadow sighed.

-Under protest, he joined

-Emili, Gari and Dewi the shadows.

-They followed Emili the girl

-and Dewi and Gari the boys.

-Alffi hid under Emili's big bag.

-Off they went towards the park.

-When they reached the park...

-..there were shadows everywhere

-with their happy people.

-Their laughter and chatter

-filled the air.

-But one little boy

-sat alone under a tree...

-..watching the others having fun.

-He looked sad and downhearted.

-Then, Alffi the shadow

-heard Gari the boy shouting.

-"Come on, Alffi boy, come and play

-rounders. You'll love it."

-"No, it's OK,"

-replied the little boy.

-Alffi boy?

-Could this be Alffi the boy?

-Alffi the shadow ran as fast as he

-could to join Dewi, Emili and Gari.

-Puffing away, he said...

-.."It's him. I've...

-"Phew. I've found Alffi the boy."

-"What?" said Gari. "Incredible.

-Go and join him quickly.

-"Where is he?"

-"Under the tree,"

-said Alffi the shadow.

-"Right, come on,"

-said Gari the shadow.

-He dragged Gari the boy with him.

-When they reached

-the sad little boy...

-..Gari nudged Alffi the shadow.

-Slowly, Alffi attached himself

-carefully to Alffi the boy.

-As soon as he'd done that,

-Alffi the boy stood up...

-..and for the first time ever,

-he stepped into the sunshine.

-Alffi the boy

-and Alffi the shadow...

-..felt the warm rays from the sun.

-Alffi said happily...

-.."If you look towards the sun,

-the world is a far better place."
