-Many years ago, a chain of mountains

-stood in a remote part of the world.

-No-one lived there.

-It was cold and bleak there.

-There were no flowers,

-no birds, no plants...

-..just rocks, some trees...

-..and the nearest village

-was in a valley miles away.

-There were many mountains

-in that chain.

-They were huge and majestic.

-They rose high up to the sky.

-They were so high, they looked as

-though they could touch the moon.

-Apart from one,

-the little snow mountain.

-He wasn't big, like his brothers.

-He was a small,

-friendly-looking mountain.

-Mountains aren't usually

-small and friendly.

-That's like telling a giraffe

-that it's short.

-Mountains are meant to look huge.

-And just a little bit menacing.

-The little snow mountain

-was none of these.

-All the other mountains

-looked down at him.

-They roared snow avalanches at it.

-"Mountain?

-You call yourself a mountain?

-"You're not even high enough

-to be called a hill.

-"To be honest, from up here...

-"..you're nothing more

-than a mound of earth."

-The little snow mountain sighed.

-"Well," he said to himself, "Since

-I'm not the highest mountain...

-"..maybe I should be

-the best mountain I can be."

-His brothers started laughing

-uncontrollably.

-"Ha, ha, ha," they said.

-"From up on high, we can see...

-..a large mountain

-you will never be."

-One dark night,

-the little snow mountain woke up...

-..in the middle of s storm.

-He saw an old man

-struggling through the snow.

-"Are you OK?"

-asked the little snow mountain.

-"I'm lost. I'm tying to find

-my way back to the village.

-"I can't see a thing.

-Can you provide some shelter?"

-"My pleasure,"

-replied the little snow mountain.

-"But wouldn't you prefer to shelter

-under one of my taller brothers?

-"I'm just a small mountain."

-"Your brothers look too tall

-and menacing," replied the old man.

-"From where I'm standing,

-you look like a huge mountain."

-The old man sheltered in one

-of the little snow mountain's caves.

-The following day, the old man

-appeared from the cave...

-..and saw that the storm had passed.

-He was very grateful.

-"Oh, thank you, huge mountain,"

-said the old man.

-"You saved my life last night.

-"I have nothing to give you except

-my thanks, and this little seed."

-He pulled a seed from his pocket.

-He planted the seed on the slopes

-of the little snow mountain.

-His brothers had been watching

-from afar.

-They laughed out loud.

-"A huge mountain? Little seeds.

-"How funny."

-"From up on high, we can see...

-".. a large mountain

-you will never be."

-"I'll never know what it looks like

-from up there," said the old man.

-"I'm just an old man,

-but from where I'm standing...

-"..your little brother

-looks big enough to me.

-"Watch and see

-what happens to this seed."

-The old man thanked the little

-snow mountain once again...

-..and started his journey back home.

-The storms got worse -

-it was winter after all.

-As you know, it's cold enough

-in winter even where we live.

-Imagine what it's like

-on the mountains.

-The little snow mountain was

-hoping to see the old man again...

-..but no-one came by.

-He often thought about

-the old man...

-..and how he'd said that he looked

-like a huge mountain to him.

-He also thought about the seed.

-He hoped it was OK.

-Very little grew here -

-a tree or two but nothing else.

-The storms died down

-and spring was finally on its way.

-The world woke up

-from the long winter...

-..and even though the mountaintops

-were covered in snow....

-..the rest of the snow

-slowly melted.

-As the snow disappeared,

-the mountain noticed a difference.

-Instead of a rocky terrain,

-he was now purple, blue and yellow.

-Flowers! The prettiest flowers

-you'd ever seen.

-The little seed had covered

-the mountain in flowers.

-"I like your new dress,"

-said one of his brothers.

-"You look so menacing

-in your flowery clothes."

-The mountains laughed.

-"Don't take any notice of them,"

-moaned a little voice.

-"You look incredible."

-Apart from the high mountains

-and the old man...

-..no-one had ever spoken

-to the little snow mountain.

-No-one had called him incredible.

-"Hello," said the buzzing voice.

-"I am Eduardo Gonzales,

-chief worker of the queen bee."

-"Oh, I see,"

-answered the little snow mountain.

-"What's a bee?"

-"We are.

-We're very busy and we love flowers.

-"These flowers are perfect

-for collecting nectar."

-"Nectar?"

-asked the little snow mountain.

-"Yes," said the bee,

-"There's nectar in the flowers.

-"We collect it and take it back

-to the beehive.

-"That's where we live.

-"We make the sweetest

-and most golden honey for our bee."

-"Honey?"

-asked the little snow mountain.

-"You eat it. Not you, obviously,

-but all kinds of creatures.

-"They love it.

-"It's good for them too.

-"Listen, I know

-we've only just met...

-"..but would you mind if I told

-the other workers...

-"..that it's OK to come here

-to collect the nectar...

-"..from these wonderful flowers?"

-"It would be an honour,"

-replied the mountain.

-He wasn't used to such kindness.

-"There we go then," said the bee

-as it flew away in good spirits.

-The following morning, the little

-snow mountain was covered in bees.

-They collected nectar all day.

-Birds also appeared, and

-butterflies, some dragonflies...

-..and some mice and rabbits.

-Suddenly, the little snow mountain

-had friends.

-The villagers in the valley

-had so much honey...

-..they didn't know

-what to do with it.

-They couldn't understand

-from where it was all coming.

-But the old man who'd sheltered

-in the cave knew precisely where.

-He called on the villagers

-to follow him...

-..and he took them to the mountains.

-"There's nothing here but huge,

-menacing rocky mountains,"...

-..said the villagers.

-"Wait until we reach the top

-of the pass," said the old man.

-There, in front of them,

-stood the little snow mountain.

-A perfect picture

-of purple, blue and yellow.

-Everyone sighed.

-The villagers basked

-at the beauty of the mountain.

-The sweet smell of its flowers

-filled the air.

-"What did I say?" asked the old man.

-"And another thing,

-this mountain is kind and friendly.

-"It saved my life.

-"I'll be forever grateful to him."

-The little snow mountain

-was also grateful to the mountain.

-Slowly, the villagers

-moved from the valley...

-..to live on the slopes

-of the mountain.

-He might be the smallest but this

-is the best mountain in the chain.

-That's what everyone thought.

-Even though the other mountains

-were much higher...

-..when they saw how happy

-the villagers were...

-..and how pretty

-the snow mountain was...

-..they had to admit it was true too.
