Even underground. | 0:00:15 | 0:00:17
-Woo! -That's amazing! | 0:00:17 | 0:00:19

Built especially for you. | 0:00:26 | 0:00:27
Here we go. | 0:00:28 | 0:00:30
ALL: This den is done! | 0:00:30 | 0:00:32
Hello. | 0:00:37 | 0:00:38
Amazing. | 0:00:38 | 0:00:39
Oh, wow. | 0:00:54 | 0:00:55
Welcome to The Dengineers. | 0:01:02 | 0:01:03
Today, we're in Loughborough to build a completely awesome den | 0:01:03 | 0:01:06
for a totally awesome girl named Ella. | 0:01:06 | 0:01:08
Now, where's that Mark Wright? | 0:01:08 | 0:01:10
MARK WHISTLES | 0:01:10 | 0:01:12
Lauren, I'm here! | 0:01:12 | 0:01:13
How are you doing? | 0:01:13 | 0:01:14
-What are you doing? -What do you mean, what am I doing? | 0:01:14 | 0:01:17
I'm ready for the bike den we're going to build. | 0:01:17 | 0:01:19
I've got you a helmet, a tandem, the lot. | 0:01:19 | 0:01:20
-Let's get this show on the road. -No, mate you've got this totally wrong. | 0:01:20 | 0:01:24
Ella hates cycling! In fact, she wants a den | 0:01:24 | 0:01:26
so that she can get away from her family's bikes. | 0:01:26 | 0:01:29
Ah. Better take this back, then. | 0:01:29 | 0:01:31
Whoa, hang on a second. Let's have a go first. | 0:01:31 | 0:01:33
Come on then. Hop on. | 0:01:33 | 0:01:34
-Do you know how to ride these things? -No. | 0:01:34 | 0:01:37
Just pedal to the metal. | 0:01:37 | 0:01:39
-OK. Off we go. -Ready? -No. | 0:01:39 | 0:01:41
LAUREN SCREAMS | 0:01:41 | 0:01:43
Don't wobble it! | 0:01:47 | 0:01:49
Today's Dengineer is Ella. | 0:01:54 | 0:01:56
Ella's dad, Nigel, | 0:01:56 | 0:01:58
brother, Alec | 0:01:58 | 0:01:59
and mum, Kath, are all obsessed with cycling, | 0:01:59 | 0:02:03
but Ella is not so keen, so she got in touch and asked us for help. | 0:02:03 | 0:02:06
I need help from The Dengineers, | 0:02:08 | 0:02:10
because everyone in my family loves bikes, | 0:02:10 | 0:02:13
but I hate bikes. | 0:02:13 | 0:02:14
There's no space in this house that isn't crammed with bike stuff. | 0:02:16 | 0:02:19
They're just everywhere. | 0:02:19 | 0:02:21
My friends feel a bit weird when they come over, | 0:02:21 | 0:02:24
cos there's just bikes in my room | 0:02:24 | 0:02:25
and there's nowhere that we can just hang out without bikes being | 0:02:25 | 0:02:29
everywhere and I just don't have my own space. | 0:02:29 | 0:02:31
That's why I need a den. | 0:02:31 | 0:02:33
Please come, Dengineers. I really need your help. | 0:02:34 | 0:02:37
And help from the Dengineers is just what Ella is going to get. | 0:02:37 | 0:02:41
She just doesn't know it yet! | 0:02:41 | 0:02:43
OK, so we're cleverly hidden away in a chippy right across the road | 0:02:44 | 0:02:47
from a bike shop that Ella regularly gets dragged to by her mum and dad. | 0:02:47 | 0:02:50
Yeah, she has absolutely no idea that we're here | 0:02:50 | 0:02:53
or that she is going to be getting her dream den made. | 0:02:53 | 0:02:56
This is going to be the surprise of a lifetime! Ah! | 0:02:56 | 0:02:59
The Dengineers team has rigged the bike shop with hidden cameras | 0:03:00 | 0:03:04
and we are hiding just over the road, | 0:03:04 | 0:03:06
ready to run over and surprise Ella. | 0:03:06 | 0:03:08
-I can see them. -Ooh, look at Nigel's hat. -I'm excited but nervous!!! | 0:03:11 | 0:03:15
Mark, act casual. | 0:03:15 | 0:03:17
That's too casual. Turn back. | 0:03:17 | 0:03:20
Ella's mum and dad are in on the act, but Ella doesn't have a clue. | 0:03:20 | 0:03:24
If she sees us now, the whole surprise is ruined. | 0:03:24 | 0:03:27
There they are, there they are! Can you see them? | 0:03:27 | 0:03:29
-They're going in. -They're right there. | 0:03:29 | 0:03:31
She's not spotted us, so that's good. | 0:03:31 | 0:03:33
She's in. I think we are safe. | 0:03:33 | 0:03:35
Brilliant. | 0:03:35 | 0:03:37
Being dragged to this bike shop is Ella's worst nightmare | 0:03:37 | 0:03:40
and she's clearly massively bored, | 0:03:40 | 0:03:42
but we're about to make her day a whole lot better. | 0:03:42 | 0:03:45
-Let's go. -Now! -Let's go! Let's go! Let's go! | 0:03:45 | 0:03:48
Quick, quick, quick, quick. Let's go! | 0:03:48 | 0:03:51
Hope she can't actually see us. | 0:03:51 | 0:03:53
We're at risk of getting spotted here as we carefully cross the road. | 0:03:53 | 0:03:56
Run! | 0:03:56 | 0:03:57 | |
Nigel's doing a great job of distracting Ella, | 0:03:59 | 0:04:01
while we sneak round the back of the shop. | 0:04:01 | 0:04:04
But Ella does not have a clue, so I think we are going to be all right. | 0:04:06 | 0:04:09
Hello. We're looking for an Ella. | 0:04:13 | 0:04:16
-Oh, wow! -Hello, are you Ella? -Hello Ella! | 0:04:16 | 0:04:18
-Yeah. -Ella, up you get. Hello. -Hello! -My name is Lauren. | 0:04:18 | 0:04:22
-Hi. -Hi. -This is Mark. Hi. -Hello. | 0:04:22 | 0:04:25
We're from CBBC's The Dengineers! | 0:04:25 | 0:04:28
THEY ALL LAUGH | 0:04:28 | 0:04:31
Ella, you got in touch with the show, | 0:04:31 | 0:04:33
asking if we could help you out | 0:04:33 | 0:04:34
and you have actually been chosen to build your very own dream den. | 0:04:34 | 0:04:39
-Yes! -High five, Ella! Yes! -High five, Ella. | 0:04:39 | 0:04:41
I thought that my mum was going to take me to the opticians | 0:04:45 | 0:04:48
while Dad stayed here in the bike shop. | 0:04:48 | 0:04:50
And when they said, "Oh, we'll just be a minute" | 0:04:50 | 0:04:52
and I was like "Oh, no". | 0:04:52 | 0:04:53
Hello, we're looking for an Ella. | 0:04:55 | 0:04:57
Even though I hate this place, it was definitely worth coming in. | 0:04:57 | 0:05:00
You have actually been chosen to build your very own dream den. | 0:05:00 | 0:05:05
-Yes! -High five, Ella! Yes! | 0:05:05 | 0:05:07
I'm really excited about getting my dream den made. | 0:05:07 | 0:05:10
It means I can escape from the bikes into a safe haven. | 0:05:10 | 0:05:13
Our first port of call is the Dengineers' Mobile HQ, | 0:05:18 | 0:05:21
which has got some really cool technology to get this den on track. | 0:05:21 | 0:05:26
Ella wants a den that will get her as far away from anything | 0:05:26 | 0:05:29
to do with bikes as possible, | 0:05:29 | 0:05:31
so she's decided on a Hawaiian beach hut. | 0:05:31 | 0:05:34
We're going to download all the ideas | 0:05:34 | 0:05:35
that are in your head and input them into our amazing den design. | 0:05:35 | 0:05:39
-Shall we have a little look? -Yeah. -Let's go. | 0:05:39 | 0:05:41
-So, there's loads and loads... -I like that one. | 0:05:41 | 0:05:44
Yeah, surfboards is a great shout. | 0:05:44 | 0:05:46
I like these flowers. They're a pretty colour. | 0:05:46 | 0:05:48
-They kind of immediately remind you of Hawaii, don't they? -Yeah. | 0:05:48 | 0:05:52
-Look. -Ooh, yeah! | 0:05:52 | 0:05:54
We could have them, like, outside it. | 0:05:54 | 0:05:55
These are like, what, wooden carvings? | 0:05:55 | 0:05:59
I like that one. | 0:05:59 | 0:06:00
Why did you choose that, Ella, cos you what that colour in or...? | 0:06:00 | 0:06:03
Yes, I love the, like, kind of gradient effect. | 0:06:03 | 0:06:05
I want everything to be bright and vibrant. | 0:06:05 | 0:06:08
Ella's created a mood board full of colour, | 0:06:08 | 0:06:11
with a chilled-out Hawaiian beach vibe. | 0:06:11 | 0:06:13
Well, I reckon that looks amazing. Are you happy with it? | 0:06:13 | 0:06:16
-Yeah, great. -Excellent! | 0:06:16 | 0:06:17
-I reckon it's time we go and get you kitted up. -Yeah. | 0:06:17 | 0:06:20
With Ella kitted out in her Dengineers' overalls, | 0:06:25 | 0:06:27
we're joined by her mum, dad and brother, Alec, | 0:06:27 | 0:06:30
to have a look at the walled garden to the side of Ella's house | 0:06:30 | 0:06:33
where the den is going to be. | 0:06:33 | 0:06:35
So this is it. | 0:06:35 | 0:06:37
-It look like it's going be hard work. -Yeah. | 0:06:37 | 0:06:39
But, trust me, we can do it. | 0:06:39 | 0:06:40
You lot are going to be impressed, | 0:06:40 | 0:06:42
but I'm afraid to say that is the last thing | 0:06:42 | 0:06:44
I'm going to say to you about the den. | 0:06:44 | 0:06:45
Thanks for giving us the space. | 0:06:45 | 0:06:47
But, for now, you ain't welcome. | 0:06:47 | 0:06:49
Yeah, guys, it's Dengineers only, | 0:06:49 | 0:06:51
so I need to take you guys out of here. Come on. Off we go. | 0:06:51 | 0:06:54
-See you later. -Bye-bye! | 0:06:54 | 0:06:56
Let's go. | 0:06:56 | 0:06:58
Ella's family will not be allowed in this part of the garden | 0:06:58 | 0:07:01
until it's time for the big den reveal in a few days' time. | 0:07:01 | 0:07:05
For now, it's Ella who's in charge. | 0:07:05 | 0:07:07
-Now they're gone, you know what that means, don't you? -Dengineers. | 0:07:10 | 0:07:13
Yes, we're going to get down to business | 0:07:13 | 0:07:15
and I'm about to introduce you | 0:07:15 | 0:07:16
to somebody who is an absolute expert, Ella. | 0:07:16 | 0:07:18
-Honestly, he will make the dream den, just for you. -Cool. | 0:07:18 | 0:07:21
-Are you ready to meet him? -Yeah. -Let's get him in. | 0:07:21 | 0:07:24
Sege has been in the building biz for 36 years | 0:07:25 | 0:07:29
and is a legend in the den-building world. | 0:07:29 | 0:07:32
Sege knows what Ella wants her Hawaiian Den to be like | 0:07:33 | 0:07:36
and if anyone can make her den dreams come true, it's this guy. | 0:07:36 | 0:07:40
What are you thinking, Sege, about this den? Is it doable? | 0:07:43 | 0:07:45
Very doable, yeah. | 0:07:45 | 0:07:47
What about if we build this shed out of loads of different | 0:07:47 | 0:07:51
coloured planks that look like you've found them off the beach. | 0:07:51 | 0:07:54
-They're beach-weathered. -Ah! | 0:07:54 | 0:07:56
-You know and they're sort of... -Like driftwood? | 0:07:56 | 0:07:58
They're there all different.... Exactly, all different colours. | 0:07:58 | 0:08:00
-How does that sound? -It sounds brilliant. | 0:08:00 | 0:08:02
-I think that would be brilliant. -Yeah! | 0:08:02 | 0:08:04
Amazing. Sege, can I add something in? | 0:08:04 | 0:08:06
We've got all this space out here. | 0:08:06 | 0:08:07
-What about if we have some sand outside the den? -Ah, what? Easy. | 0:08:07 | 0:08:10
-Wouldn't that be nice? -Yeah. -Your own little beach. -Yeah. | 0:08:10 | 0:08:12
-It'll look beautiful. -Amazing. -I can just imagine it now. | 0:08:12 | 0:08:16
As well as the man-made beach and the painted wooden planks, | 0:08:16 | 0:08:19
the outside of Ella's Hawaiian Den will also be decorated with | 0:08:19 | 0:08:23
some awesome wooden carvings | 0:08:23 | 0:08:25
and a beach-styled juice bar. | 0:08:25 | 0:08:28
The inside will be a proper chill-out area for Ella and her friends. | 0:08:29 | 0:08:34
This den is going to be outstanding! | 0:08:34 | 0:08:36
But it's going to take a lot of work from The Dengineers | 0:08:37 | 0:08:41
and the first thing they need to do is clear out the garden. | 0:08:41 | 0:08:44
-Goodbye, chicken shed. -Yeah. | 0:08:44 | 0:08:47
To get the area cleared, the Dengineers' need to take | 0:08:47 | 0:08:49
down an old disused chicken coop, | 0:08:49 | 0:08:52
and it's proving to be a big job. | 0:08:52 | 0:08:54
-It's pretty sturdy. -Yeah, it is pretty sturdy, isn't it? | 0:08:54 | 0:08:57
Ooh, that's got it. | 0:08:57 | 0:08:59
And while it's all kicking off, | 0:08:59 | 0:09:01
Ella's mum and dad can't see any of it. | 0:09:01 | 0:09:03
Oops. There we are! | 0:09:03 | 0:09:05
I'm a bit worried to be honest, | 0:09:05 | 0:09:06
to be locked out of the garden for a whole week. | 0:09:06 | 0:09:08
You never know what she's got planned. | 0:09:08 | 0:09:09
I think just bang them off. | 0:09:09 | 0:09:11
I'm looking for something different, | 0:09:13 | 0:09:16
a bit of a change in there. I'm quite excited by that. | 0:09:16 | 0:09:19
She's a very creative individual. | 0:09:19 | 0:09:22
You've no idea what she's going to come up, | 0:09:22 | 0:09:23
but I'm sure it's going to be exciting. | 0:09:23 | 0:09:26
I feel really lucky that I'm going to get my dream den built by Sege | 0:09:26 | 0:09:30
and he's an amazing designer so it's going to be great. | 0:09:30 | 0:09:33
It's been a productive first day for our Dengineers. | 0:09:35 | 0:09:39
The side garden is all cleared and ready for action. | 0:09:39 | 0:09:42
It's super early in the morning and ground workers Trevor and Paul | 0:09:48 | 0:09:51
have arrived to lay the foundations for Ella's den. | 0:09:51 | 0:09:55
-Morning. -Morning. -How's it going? | 0:09:55 | 0:09:58
It's going all right. Is that toast nice? | 0:09:58 | 0:10:00
-Jam. -Jam. | 0:10:01 | 0:10:03
It's really early. It's, like, 7.42am | 0:10:03 | 0:10:06
and I've only just got out of bed, so I'm really tired. | 0:10:06 | 0:10:09
And they've just come out of nowhere, practically. | 0:10:10 | 0:10:14
Trevor and Paul are going to lay the foundations that will support | 0:10:18 | 0:10:21
the whole structure of the den. | 0:10:21 | 0:10:23
First, they remove the layer of soil, | 0:10:24 | 0:10:28
then they lay down some gravel... | 0:10:28 | 0:10:30
..and compress it down with the whacker | 0:10:33 | 0:10:35
to create a more solid base. | 0:10:35 | 0:10:37
Finally, they put down the concrete slabs that the legs of the den | 0:10:39 | 0:10:43
will stand on. | 0:10:43 | 0:10:44
Now it's time for the real work to start. | 0:10:45 | 0:10:47
Do you want to hand that round to Sege? | 0:10:49 | 0:10:52
Although the den design has come from Ella's ideas, | 0:10:52 | 0:10:55
she has no clue what Sege has in store | 0:10:55 | 0:10:57
or what the finished den will look like. | 0:10:57 | 0:11:00
And now they're installing the base, | 0:11:00 | 0:11:02
which is the first part of it, of course. | 0:11:02 | 0:11:04
And just as... This is the moment of truth, to see | 0:11:04 | 0:11:06
if it fits. What do you think, Ella? | 0:11:06 | 0:11:08
It's really exciting and it looks really good. | 0:11:08 | 0:11:11
How's it going Phil? Is it...? | 0:11:11 | 0:11:12
Fits a treat! | 0:11:12 | 0:11:14
-We're on. It fits. -Yeah. | 0:11:14 | 0:11:16
-Ella, you wanted this gradient sea? -Yeah. | 0:11:16 | 0:11:19
Sort of water washing up onto the beach, | 0:11:19 | 0:11:21
so we thought what we'd do is, we'd use it as a floor. | 0:11:21 | 0:11:23
But the secret is, it's all part of a bigger picture still to come. | 0:11:23 | 0:11:27
Sege has designed this den to sit on stilts above the ground. | 0:11:28 | 0:11:32
This is because traditional beach huts are designed this way to | 0:11:32 | 0:11:35
allow the sea to flow underneath. | 0:11:35 | 0:11:37
And in this case, it will also to allow air to | 0:11:37 | 0:11:40
circulate around the whole of the den to avoid it becoming damp. | 0:11:40 | 0:11:43
As the Dengineers carry on getting the structure up, | 0:11:45 | 0:11:48
I thought I'd grab a chat with Ella's mum and dad. | 0:11:48 | 0:11:51
So, guys, it's clear to see that you love bikes! | 0:11:51 | 0:11:55
You've got bikes literally everywhere. | 0:11:55 | 0:11:57
And I heard a little rumour, Dad... | 0:11:57 | 0:11:59
-Yes? -..that you were storing bikes in her bedroom! | 0:11:59 | 0:12:04
-Yes! Yes, I was. -What?! | 0:12:04 | 0:12:06
Well, we've got to put them somewhere | 0:12:06 | 0:12:08
and Ella's room was... | 0:12:08 | 0:12:10
had some space in it. | 0:12:10 | 0:12:12
I'm not going to lie, she sounds like the most tolerant kid in the world. | 0:12:12 | 0:12:16
She is really good. | 0:12:16 | 0:12:18
She's very tolerate. She puts up with a lot, she really does. | 0:12:18 | 0:12:20
So what do you think this den is going to mean to Ella? | 0:12:20 | 0:12:24
This is going to mean everything to Ella. | 0:12:24 | 0:12:26
it's going to be her own special place, where she can get away | 0:12:26 | 0:12:28
from the bikes and the chat and the stuff and all the gear everywhere. | 0:12:28 | 0:12:31
And she can go out with her friends and just be herself. | 0:12:31 | 0:12:34
It's clear that this den is going to mean a lot to Ella, | 0:12:36 | 0:12:39
so it's really important that we get it right. | 0:12:39 | 0:12:42
And, luckily, Ella seems pretty pleased with how it's all | 0:12:43 | 0:12:46
looking so far. | 0:12:46 | 0:12:48
These are actually my favourite colours, | 0:12:48 | 0:12:50
but I actually think they go together really well. | 0:12:50 | 0:12:52
I think they do, too, yeah. | 0:12:52 | 0:12:53
The walls are made of oak, which is a timber so robust | 0:12:53 | 0:12:56
and hard-wearing, it should last a lifetime. | 0:12:56 | 0:12:59
And it doesn't stop there. | 0:13:00 | 0:13:02
To keep up with the Hawaiian theme, | 0:13:02 | 0:13:03
Sege has designed the den to have a juice bar built into it. | 0:13:03 | 0:13:07
-Perfect! -What do you think? Is that perfect? | 0:13:07 | 0:13:09
That's perfect! | 0:13:09 | 0:13:11
The juice bar may be looking perfect, but the Dengineers | 0:13:11 | 0:13:13
need to get the rest of the walls up and get the roof on before | 0:13:13 | 0:13:17
the end of the day, so that the den will be weatherproof overnight. | 0:13:17 | 0:13:20
This will be a mono-pitch roof, | 0:13:22 | 0:13:24
which means a single roof surface | 0:13:24 | 0:13:26
that slopes down, so that the rain can run off. | 0:13:26 | 0:13:29
Now it's time for a Den Hack. | 0:13:32 | 0:13:33
Have you ever been down the beach | 0:13:37 | 0:13:39
and found yourself with a handful of change for your ice cream | 0:13:39 | 0:13:42
and headphones and had nowhere to put it? | 0:13:42 | 0:13:44
Well, now you can solve this problem with one simple solution. | 0:13:44 | 0:13:48
It's easy. | 0:13:48 | 0:13:50
All you need is your old sunscreen bottle. | 0:13:50 | 0:13:53
Make sure it's empty and carefully cut off the top of the bottle. | 0:13:53 | 0:13:57
Grab your change and headphones, | 0:13:57 | 0:14:00
put them into the bottle | 0:14:00 | 0:14:02
and close the lid! | 0:14:02 | 0:14:04
Wow! | 0:14:04 | 0:14:05 | |
So there you have it. Your very own sunscreen safe. | 0:14:05 | 0:14:08
Which way to the beach? | 0:14:08 | 0:14:09
Oh, that way. | 0:14:09 | 0:14:10
As the work on the Hawaiian Den continues, | 0:14:17 | 0:14:20
the Dengineers get a visit from a pretty special guest. | 0:14:20 | 0:14:24
Unbeknownst to Ella, Sege has had his mate, | 0:14:26 | 0:14:28
affectionately known as Chainsaw Nancy, | 0:14:28 | 0:14:31
make some incredible bespoke sculptures for her den... | 0:14:31 | 0:14:34
How cool is that? | 0:14:34 | 0:14:36
..and she's about to see them for the first time. | 0:14:36 | 0:14:39
Oh, wow. That's so cool! | 0:14:39 | 0:14:43
The Tiki pole and chair shaped like a pineapple are looking good, | 0:14:45 | 0:14:50
but there's still a few jobs to do. | 0:14:50 | 0:14:52
Chainsaw Nancy is an expert in the woodcarving world, | 0:14:56 | 0:14:59
is fully trained to do this specialist job, | 0:14:59 | 0:15:02
and is wearing special safety gear. | 0:15:02 | 0:15:05
It's really loud! | 0:15:05 | 0:15:06
Ella couldn't help with the chain sawing, | 0:15:09 | 0:15:11
but she can help with a final sand down. | 0:15:11 | 0:15:14
OK, then, Ella, I think that's good enough. | 0:15:16 | 0:15:18
Yeah, this is going to go great in my den. | 0:15:18 | 0:15:22
The Hawaiian Den is well under way | 0:15:22 | 0:15:24
and Ella has been working pretty hard, | 0:15:24 | 0:15:27
so I'm going to give her a little treat | 0:15:27 | 0:15:29
to help get her in the Hawaiian zone. | 0:15:29 | 0:15:32
I'm taking her for an indoor surfing lesson. | 0:15:32 | 0:15:35
This looks amazing! | 0:15:35 | 0:15:37
Surfing has been a part of Hawaiian life for hundreds of years | 0:15:39 | 0:15:42
and if Ella ever gets the chance to go there, | 0:15:42 | 0:15:45
this lesson will help her get stuck into the waves. | 0:15:45 | 0:15:48
-Excellent! All right, let's get going. -Let's go! | 0:15:48 | 0:15:51
LAUREN SCREAMS | 0:15:51 | 0:15:53
..I'm not going to go. | 0:15:53 | 0:15:54
3-2-1, go. | 0:15:54 | 0:15:57
LAUREN SCREAMS | 0:15:57 | 0:15:59
Yeah, great start, Lauren. | 0:15:59 | 0:16:01
But, hey, if at first you don't succeed, | 0:16:01 | 0:16:04
just fail again! | 0:16:04 | 0:16:05
Yes. Now you're getting the hang of it. | 0:16:11 | 0:16:14
Hey, I'm doing it! | 0:16:14 | 0:16:16
THEY BOTH SCREAM | 0:16:16 | 0:16:18
Ella's a natural. | 0:16:18 | 0:16:19
Well, most of the time. | 0:16:24 | 0:16:25
So, this is the most amazing thing I think I've ever done, ever. | 0:16:28 | 0:16:32
Like, Ella is amazing. | 0:16:32 | 0:16:34
Meanwhile, I'm struggling to just even get in the thing. | 0:16:34 | 0:16:37
It's actually quite embarrassing. | 0:16:37 | 0:16:39
I've never seen that surfing style before, Lauren. | 0:16:46 | 0:16:50
Ella has totally got the hang of this! | 0:16:54 | 0:16:57
Nearly. | 0:16:57 | 0:16:58
Yeah, all right, Ella. You're just showing off now. | 0:17:02 | 0:17:05
And one final trick. | 0:17:08 | 0:17:09
Nailed it! | 0:17:12 | 0:17:13
I actually felt like all Hawaiian inside | 0:17:13 | 0:17:15
and I'm really excited to go and build my den now. | 0:17:15 | 0:17:18
While Ella and Lauren have been having a blast on the boards, | 0:17:27 | 0:17:31
work back at the build has been cranked up a notch. | 0:17:31 | 0:17:34
The canopy over the front of the den | 0:17:36 | 0:17:38
and the door are being covered with bamboo. | 0:17:38 | 0:17:41
Bamboo is naturally waterproof, | 0:17:42 | 0:17:44
so this material makes for a fantastic shelter for Ella's | 0:17:44 | 0:17:48
den and is also in keeping with the Hawaiian theme. | 0:17:48 | 0:17:51
With the exterior of the den in good shape | 0:17:55 | 0:17:57
and the bamboo canopy and door in place | 0:17:57 | 0:18:00
the Dengineers are all going to have some well-earned sleep. | 0:18:00 | 0:18:03
It's day thee of the build, | 0:18:08 | 0:18:10
and with the den well under way, | 0:18:10 | 0:18:12
I've come to check out the action. | 0:18:12 | 0:18:14
So, Ella, give me the update. Whereabouts are we so far? | 0:18:14 | 0:18:18
So, we've basically got the whole structure in, | 0:18:18 | 0:18:21
-and today it's just painting. -That's amazing. | 0:18:21 | 0:18:23
-I'm really surprised it's come along so quickly. -Yeah. | 0:18:23 | 0:18:26
I love it and I love also this man, down here, just there. | 0:18:26 | 0:18:29
-Is he going to stay? -Yeah! | 0:18:29 | 0:18:30
Cool, great. Are you all right down there? | 0:18:30 | 0:18:33
Yeah, I'm fine, thanks. | 0:18:33 | 0:18:35
-OK, shall we go and get a move on, and give him a hand? -Yeah. | 0:18:35 | 0:18:38
Come on, then, let's go. | 0:18:38 | 0:18:39
It really is all hands on deck right now in Ella's garden. | 0:18:42 | 0:18:45
While me and Ella sand down a surf board that will | 0:18:49 | 0:18:51
feature inside the den, we've also got electrics going in, | 0:18:51 | 0:18:56
drilling, | 0:18:56 | 0:18:57
sawing, | 0:18:57 | 0:19:00
and, of course, painting galore. | 0:19:00 | 0:19:02
But it's not just wood that's been getting painted. | 0:19:04 | 0:19:08
-Do you know what it is? -No. | 0:19:08 | 0:19:09
Sege has also had something pretty outstanding created for Ella. | 0:19:09 | 0:19:14
-Wow! -My goodness! | 0:19:14 | 0:19:16
That's awesome. | 0:19:16 | 0:19:18
-How fantastic. -Here's comes the sun. | 0:19:18 | 0:19:20
-How good is that going to be? -That is great. | 0:19:20 | 0:19:22
-That looks so cool. -That looks amazing. Wow. | 0:19:22 | 0:19:25
We're going to install that now, across the back wall there. | 0:19:25 | 0:19:28
-Yeah. -So, can you see that? | 0:19:28 | 0:19:29
-You see where the sea has washed in over the floor? -Yeah, I can. | 0:19:29 | 0:19:32
-Oh, yeah. -So this will be the backdrop to the sea. | 0:19:32 | 0:19:35
Oh, so it all, like, fades... | 0:19:35 | 0:19:37
All fades away into the horizon there. | 0:19:37 | 0:19:38
-Oh, Sege, you've done a good job, haven't you? -Oh, well. | 0:19:38 | 0:19:41
-Fab! -It'll be like sitting on a beach. | 0:19:41 | 0:19:43
I kind of feel like we're already in a bit like Hawaii already. | 0:19:43 | 0:19:46
-I'm loving it. -Yeah. Get the grass skirts on. | 0:19:46 | 0:19:49
I don't want to spoil the fun, but time for hula-ing is over. | 0:19:49 | 0:19:52
As the mural is set into position, | 0:19:53 | 0:19:55
Sege is becoming worried about the amount of work still to do. | 0:19:55 | 0:19:59
The Dengineers are now running behind | 0:20:00 | 0:20:02
and the atmos on site is feeling pretty serious. | 0:20:02 | 0:20:05
More to that side, please. | 0:20:05 | 0:20:07
But Lauren and Ella have got a plan to get everyone | 0:20:08 | 0:20:11
back into the Hawaiian spirit! | 0:20:11 | 0:20:13
Let's go and get them! | 0:20:13 | 0:20:15
Lauren and Ella are going to hand out these garlands, | 0:20:16 | 0:20:18
which are a symbol of affection in Hawaii. | 0:20:18 | 0:20:21
-Ah. -There you go, Sege. | 0:20:21 | 0:20:23
-Aloha! -Aloha! | 0:20:23 | 0:20:24
Guys, I know you've been waiting for this. | 0:20:25 | 0:20:28
-Ooh, I have yes! -There you go! | 0:20:28 | 0:20:30
-Just my colour, Ella, red! -Yeah. | 0:20:30 | 0:20:32
Dave, what do you want, one of these? | 0:20:32 | 0:20:34
You do, don't you, | 0:20:34 | 0:20:36
There you go. Just pop that in there. | 0:20:36 | 0:20:38
Oh, yeah, looking lovely! | 0:20:38 | 0:20:40
Let's see, who else have we got to go and find? | 0:20:40 | 0:20:43
Ooh, Ben. | 0:20:43 | 0:20:44
Ooh, yeah! | 0:20:44 | 0:20:45
Put it right over his headphones. | 0:20:45 | 0:20:48
THEY LAUGH | 0:20:50 | 0:20:51
-Ben, you look so nice! -Beautiful. | 0:20:52 | 0:20:55
Look at him. | 0:20:55 | 0:20:57
But amongst all the LOLs, Lauren spots a mistake. | 0:20:57 | 0:21:00
Alohaii? Alohaii? | 0:21:01 | 0:21:04
Alohaii? | 0:21:05 | 0:21:07
Sege, I think we've got a problem? | 0:21:07 | 0:21:09
-Look! -Oh, no. -Come here! | 0:21:09 | 0:21:11
I don't need to. I can see it from here. | 0:21:13 | 0:21:15
Alohaii. | 0:21:15 | 0:21:17
That's "Aloha", two exclamation marks upside down! | 0:21:17 | 0:21:22
-It's terrible! -Oh, Sege, it'll be all right! | 0:21:22 | 0:21:27
-It'll be all right, we'll get it sorted. -We'll have to fix it. | 0:21:27 | 0:21:29
-Right, let's a saw or something. -Let's go and get it done! | 0:21:29 | 0:21:33
As painter Paul fixes the sign, | 0:21:33 | 0:21:35
the Dengineers start putting the final touches onto the den. | 0:21:35 | 0:21:38
Ella will now not see her den until the Big Den Reveal tomorrow, | 0:21:39 | 0:21:43
and there's loads she hasn't seen yet, | 0:21:43 | 0:21:46
including a cool upcycle project | 0:21:46 | 0:21:48
that will turn an old bike into a stool to go outside the juice bar. | 0:21:48 | 0:21:52
Ella's mum, Kath, has had this mountain bike for over 20 years. | 0:21:58 | 0:22:02
It has been taken on cycling trips all over the world, | 0:22:04 | 0:22:07
including here in Wales when Ella was just five years old. | 0:22:07 | 0:22:11
It hasn't been used much recently, | 0:22:11 | 0:22:12
so Kath has handed it over to us. | 0:22:12 | 0:22:15
First, it's over to fabricator Steve | 0:22:16 | 0:22:18
to weld the bike into the correct shape | 0:22:18 | 0:22:21
so that it can be used as a stool. | 0:22:21 | 0:22:22
It's not looking very Hawaiian, | 0:22:24 | 0:22:26
so design assistant Ashley needs | 0:22:26 | 0:22:28
to sand off the existing paint, and then re-paint it to make it | 0:22:28 | 0:22:32
look super-cool on the outside of the den. | 0:22:32 | 0:22:34
With the bike cleverly attached to the wall, | 0:22:41 | 0:22:43
and a few finishing touches later, | 0:22:43 | 0:22:45
the cycle stool is coming along nicely. | 0:22:45 | 0:22:48
And that is our upcycle project finished! | 0:22:51 | 0:22:54
With the upcycle done, there's nothing more we can do for today. | 0:23:01 | 0:23:05
It's going to take one last push in the morning for the Dengineers | 0:23:06 | 0:23:10
to get Ella's dream den done. | 0:23:10 | 0:23:11
It's the morning of the Big Den Reveal here at Ella's house | 0:23:17 | 0:23:20
and the excitement really is in the air. | 0:23:20 | 0:23:22
It really, really is and in just a few hours Ella, | 0:23:22 | 0:23:25
her friends and family | 0:23:25 | 0:23:27
will be seeing the completed den for the very first time. | 0:23:27 | 0:23:30
Ooh! I'm so excited. | 0:23:30 | 0:23:32
-Let's go and see how they're getting on. -Come on. | 0:23:32 | 0:23:34
Oh, wow! | 0:23:36 | 0:23:38
-That looks incredible. -Sege! | 0:23:38 | 0:23:40
-Wow! -Thank you. -How's it going? | 0:23:42 | 0:23:45
We're getting a bit stressed now. | 0:23:45 | 0:23:46
-You know, still a fair bit to do. -Are you? | 0:23:46 | 0:23:49
I'm hoping you'll give me a hand, actually. | 0:23:49 | 0:23:51
Of course we can. We've got hands. | 0:23:51 | 0:23:53
Right, in here? | 0:23:54 | 0:23:56
With the Big Den Reveal looming, it's taking one massive | 0:23:56 | 0:23:59
push from the Dengineers to get the den finished! | 0:23:59 | 0:24:02
Come Mark, get a move on! | 0:24:02 | 0:24:04
After four days of hard graft, | 0:24:31 | 0:24:33
The Dengineers have transformed | 0:24:33 | 0:24:35
the wasteland in Ella's side garden into a fantastic Hawaiian hideaway. | 0:24:35 | 0:24:41
This is where she can finally get away from all of her family's | 0:24:41 | 0:24:44
bikes and cycle gear, | 0:24:44 | 0:24:45
and it's now time for her to see it for the first time. | 0:24:45 | 0:24:49
Five, four, | 0:24:50 | 0:24:52
three, | 0:24:52 | 0:24:54
two, | 0:24:54 | 0:24:55 | |
one! | 0:24:55 | 0:24:57 | |
Oh, my gosh! | 0:24:57 | 0:24:58
That's amazing! | 0:25:00 | 0:25:01
When I was just standing in front of the den | 0:25:02 | 0:25:04
and they took their hands away from my eyes, | 0:25:04 | 0:25:06
I was just thinking, this is amazing. | 0:25:06 | 0:25:08
I never dreamed it would be like this! | 0:25:08 | 0:25:11
-Do you like it? -I love it! Oh, wow! | 0:25:11 | 0:25:14
Thank you so much! | 0:25:14 | 0:25:15
-You're so welcome. -Is it what you dreamed of? | 0:25:15 | 0:25:18
-Yeah, it's even better. -Ah! | 0:25:18 | 0:25:20
I was actually feeling a little bit emotional. | 0:25:21 | 0:25:23
I was just so happy that this had finally happened. | 0:25:23 | 0:25:25
Ella, come and have a look at where you order a drink | 0:25:25 | 0:25:27
-from the juice bar. -OK. | 0:25:27 | 0:25:29
-That's so cool. -Go and sit on it! Go and sit on it! | 0:25:29 | 0:25:32
I'll get you a drink. Come on. What does everyone want? | 0:25:32 | 0:25:34
-What shall we have? Anyone up for a drink? -Pineapple! | 0:25:34 | 0:25:36
-How does it feel there? -It's actually really comfy. | 0:25:36 | 0:25:39
It's like the comfiest bike seat I've ever sat on. | 0:25:39 | 0:25:41
Ah, I love it! | 0:25:41 | 0:25:43
Has this made you like bikes a little bit more? | 0:25:43 | 0:25:46
-Just a little bit. -Just a little bit, yeah. | 0:25:46 | 0:25:49
And Ella, how about the really cool writing in here? Look at that! | 0:25:49 | 0:25:53
Ella's Hawaiian... Oh, my gosh, that's really cool! | 0:25:53 | 0:25:57
And, look, there's writing out here as well. | 0:25:57 | 0:25:59
-Aloha! It's "hello" in Hawaiian. -Exactly! | 0:25:59 | 0:26:02
Come round. Come on. | 0:26:02 | 0:26:03
Oh that is comfy. It's a springy back rest. | 0:26:03 | 0:26:06
-Do you know, you suit that? You look great. -It's amazing. | 0:26:06 | 0:26:08
So, Ella, are you happy with this den? | 0:26:08 | 0:26:12
Yes, this den is done! | 0:26:12 | 0:26:14
-Yes! -Yes! -Love it. | 0:26:14 | 0:26:16
Ella is going to love kicking back in her new Hawaiian paradise. | 0:26:17 | 0:26:21
The Dengineers have created a totally laid-back beach | 0:26:23 | 0:26:26
vibe in the interior of the den. | 0:26:26 | 0:26:28
But what will her friends and family think? | 0:26:30 | 0:26:32
Welcome to my Hawaiian Den! | 0:26:34 | 0:26:35
-No way, Ella, look at that. -That's amazing! -That's incredible! -Wow! -Wow! | 0:26:35 | 0:26:39
-I've never seen anything like it! -Come forward, girls. | 0:26:39 | 0:26:43
Oh, it was incredible to see what the Dengineers have made. | 0:26:43 | 0:26:45
Just amazing. Transformed the area. | 0:26:45 | 0:26:48
No way, look what's happened to the bike. | 0:26:48 | 0:26:50
That's my old bike. | 0:26:50 | 0:26:52
I felt a bit emotional when I saw the bicycle actually because that | 0:26:52 | 0:26:55
was a bike I used to ride all the time and it's been a bit neglected, | 0:26:55 | 0:26:58
so I'm really glad it's been upcycled and I'm thrilled to see it. | 0:26:58 | 0:27:01
-Can we go in and have a look? -Yeah, go on, in you go! | 0:27:01 | 0:27:03
Get in there. Go on. Get in there and have a look. | 0:27:03 | 0:27:06
You can really see Ella's personality in the den | 0:27:06 | 0:27:09
and it was bright, lots of colour in there, all sorts of things going on. | 0:27:09 | 0:27:13
It really reflects Ella, all through. | 0:27:13 | 0:27:16
I love the interior of the den. It's snug and cosy | 0:27:17 | 0:27:20
and I think it's just going to be perfect. | 0:27:20 | 0:27:22
It's even got a key. | 0:27:22 | 0:27:24
Yeah, I'm keeping Alec out. | 0:27:24 | 0:27:26
Is that going to keep me out, too? | 0:27:26 | 0:27:28
Yeah, it's going to keep everyone out. | 0:27:28 | 0:27:29
Having that den is going to mean that I can escape somewhere | 0:27:29 | 0:27:33
and I don't have to deal with the bikes everywhere. | 0:27:33 | 0:27:36
It's going to mean that I've just got a little personal space | 0:27:36 | 0:27:39
and somewhere to relax. | 0:27:39 | 0:27:41
Oh, I think we should let them get into the Hawaiian spirit, don't you? | 0:27:41 | 0:27:44
-Yeah, let's do it! -Shall we leave them to it? -Yeah. | 0:27:44 | 0:27:46
Guys, we're going now! | 0:27:46 | 0:27:48
ALL: Bye-bye! See you later! | 0:27:48 | 0:27:50
Sege and Ella have done such a great job with that den. | 0:27:55 | 0:27:57
-I could hang totally hang out there all day! -Ah, me too! | 0:27:57 | 0:28:00
I'm completely and utterly getting involved in the Hawaiian vibe. | 0:28:00 | 0:28:03
-I just love it. -Come on, let's go and practice our hula! | 0:28:03 | 0:28:06
Yes. Come on, let's go! | 0:28:06 | 0:28:08 |
