Welcome to The Dengineers.

Today, we're in Stoke-on-Trent to surprise two friends

who literally cannot sit still, and I'm not talking about me and Lauren.

I'm ready, as you can probably tell, but how about you?

-You don't look quite there!

-I'm a Dengineer at heart. Born ready.

But the question I want to know is, where are our two friends?

They're chilling at home, Mark.

-I'm Jazz!

-I'm Katelyn.

-And we're best friends!

-And we love dance.

To say these two 11-year-olds are inseparable is an understatement.

We dance a lot.

And we talk.

-How was dancing today?

-Good!

And dance.

Watch films. And dance.

But the pair are about to go their separate ways as they head

off to different high schools, so their dance time together is vital.

Katelyn's bedroom is tiny, so Jasmine's house is where they

come to practise, but it's a very, very busy home.

When I come round to Jazz's house,

it's always really manic and it's full of children.

My mum is a foster carer and since she started,

we've had 24 children in and out.

-You like that, don't you?

-Yeah!

I've got a baby brother called Benjamin

and he's got special needs.

Yeah!

Add three very excitable dogs into the mix...

and...

Well, you get the idea!

Dengineers, please come to my house and build us a dance den

to give us our own space!

And to help us become awesome dancers!

-Absolutely buzzing for this. A dance den?

-I know!

This is right up my street!

And what better place to surprise them than at their dance studio,

which is right over there.

-I absolutely can't wait.

-Cannot wait! Quick, let's hide!

-Yes!

The studio has been rigged with hidden cameras by the

Dengineers tech team.

Teacher, Miss Angela, is in on the surprise, but everyone else

has no idea what's coming.

-Are you nervous, Lauren?

-Yeah, I'm really nervous!

-Yeah, I'm a little bit nervous too.

-I hope they don't see us coming in.

-That's them! That's them!

-Ooh, quick!

-That's them! That's them!

-Please say they don't drive here.

-They nearly just almost saw us then.

WHISPERS: Oh, my goodness.

They couldn't have parked any closer. They are right there!

So they've just gone in.

Miss Angela's just going to get the class going right now.

We're going to go in and give them the surprise of a lifetime.

So, guys, I think it's time we came clean.

My name is Lauren. This is Mark.

We are from CBBC's The Dengineers,

and today, you're coming away with us to build your dream den.

How does that sound?

APPLAUSE

We are talking the ultimate dream den. Are you excited or what?

Yeah!

It looks like they are!

'Wow! I don't think the girls know what's just hit them.'

We thought the local paper was here.

And then and they said, "Come forward" and like,

-"Why is it me?"

-Yeah!

Then when he said CBBC, it was like...

-We knew.

-We knew it was The Dengineers.

-Yeah!

We're really excited.

-I can't wait!

-I can't speak, I'm so excited!

Well, that's a good job, Katelyn, cos we're not the local newspaper.

We're here to build one serious den!

Every den kicks off with a visit to the ultra-techy

Dengineers' mobile HQ, where we'll download

all of Jazz's and Katelyn's dance den ideas.

OK, guys, shall we get some ideas down onto this machine here?

-Yeah.

-That mirror there!

-Oh, yeah!

A really nice idea.

Cool! What else, guys?

Oh, yeah! Oh, yeah, that's really cool!

-That's what you're going to do in there.

-Yeah.

Let's have that in the centre and everything around it

-cos that's our main focus, isn't it?

The pillows cos they're, like, the colours that we want.

Awesome. Well, I think that looks pretty good.

-How do you feel about it, guys?

-Yeah.

Jazz and Katelyn have homed in on cool lighting and bright colours

to ensure their dance den hits the right glamorous notes.

I don't know about you guys,

but I'm itching to bring these ideas to life and make this happen.

'At Jazz's house, the girls have a surprise for me straightaway.'

Here it is!

Oh, I'm excited to see this!

'They want their den underground in the cellar!'

It's been used as a dumping ground for clutter for years.

Oh, dear!

Oh, I mean, you said it was bad, but this is some job.

What have you got us in for?

Do you think we can do it?

Er... I don't know!

Of course we can!

First things first, we need to clear all of this away.

-All?

-All of this?

-You want a dance studio with all of this rubbish?

-Yeah!

-If you want that, we'll leave it.

It'll be an easier job for me! There's only one thing left to do.

Sleeves up, gloves on.

We have got our work cut out, cos this could take days, weeks.

I don't know how long it's going to take. Let's just get going.

Right. Come on, girls.

Lively, chop, chop!

'This is already more of a challenge than I thought it was going to be.

'But Dengineers aren't afraid of a bit of hard work.

'Well, most of us aren't.'

This dance den is going to be a no-dance den

if we don't get a move on.

Looks like this job might be a bit big for the three of us.

It's time to call in the reinforcements.

-Mum!

-Yeah!

We need some help. This is taking forever!

Sarah, we need to just grab as much as we can

-and get rid of it, yeah?

-Right, yeah.

With the help of Jazz and Katelyn's mums, this cellar clear up

has gone from mission impossible to mission unstoppable.

Let's do this!

Here, Keith, you take that. Good boy, away you go.

Good, even the dogs are helping.

'With the Dengineers and dog-gineers all working as a team,

'the once cluttered cellar is quickly transformed into a workable space.'

Don't know about you lot, but I am so tired!

'And that means one thing - time to get rid of the grown-ups!'

-We've done a pretty good job, haven't we, guys?

-Yeah!

Mums, thank you so much, you've been amazing.

But it's time you leave now cos this is Dengineers only and you

are not allowed back down here until we've completed the den.

-Is that all right?

-Yes, I suppose so.

-All right, yeah.

OK. If you wouldn't mind taking the last two bits for us and clear off,

-shut the door behind you, would you?

From now on, no peeking behind the door, mums!

Now that the parents have gone,

it's time to meet our superstar designer.

It's Olga!

She loves sparkle,

glamour,

and all things showbiz.

So we can guarantee this den is going to be spectacular!

Obviously, you've seen the mood board that we did and

the girls' incredible ideas. What do you think now you're here?

It's quite a good space, isn't it?

It's a lovely space and I've seen the ideas.

They're really exciting and I think it's all possible,

but I can see some problems already.

Like the wall, for example.

It's all damp and we need to seal proof the walls.

-Look how easy that's coming off!

-Yeah, I know.

-That is a problem.

-Yeah.

-What can we do about it?

We definitely need to call some experts

and we need to damp proof the whole cellar.

I'm sorry to say it, girls, but it's going to be a lot harder

than we thought it would be. But let's just keep our

fingers crossed and leave it to these guys.

'It's a massive setback for the girls' dream.'

And unless Olga can ensure the cellar is fully dry and safe,

the den can't happen.

I hope Olga's going to sort out the problem

-and it's going to be all right.

-Yeah, yeah.

I think we're going to do this den.

THEY GASP

Well, there is certainly no dampening their optimism.

And while the damp specialists set to work,

Olga can finalise her plans for an amazing transformation

in this dusty, damp space.

The challenge with this den is to breathe life and colour

into a dark underground cellar.

To turn it into a place the girls can practice dance

and chill out away from the busy house above,

Olga's opting for modern furniture and cool lighting,

built around a stunning dance mirror centrepiece.

The den's off limits while some experts apply

a special breathable cement

which will keep the room dry.

Yeah!

'The delay gives me the perfect chance to find out more

'about Jazz's bustling home life.'

Tell me about Jasmine, cos obviously you're her mum and she lives

with lots of foster kids. What is life like for her?

It's different to most kids. She's seen a lot of children coming

in and out, so she has to share her family, her friends,

her toys, her home. And she treats them like another sibling

and then she has to say goodbye to these children.

And she's got a great friend in Katelyn, hasn't she?

-Very much, yes.

-What are the girls like together?

The troublesome twosome! From the minute that they met outside the

nursery gates at the age of three, they've been inseparable ever since.

They'll really miss each other when they go

to their different schools next year, aren't they?

Very much, yeah. They've been worried about not being able

to see each other much and things, yeah.

And why do you think the den that we're building here

today is going to be so important to them?

I think it gives them that shared space that is theirs,

so no matter what, Katelyn knows that she can always come here.

That space is theirs.

Whilst the work to transform their space continues,

Olga's asked Jazz and Katelyn to help her with a cool upcycle,

which will turn a simple picture frame

into some eye-catching storage.

Girls, your den is all about clever storage.

So I came up with this brilliant idea for an upcycle for you.

I found an old frame and we're going to turn it into a memory board.

First, take two balls of brightly coloured wool.

I would like you to cut three pieces of each colour.

That's the length of each piece.

Well done. We've got six pieces of wool.

Now we can attach them to the back of the frame.

To do this, we're going to use a heavy-duty stapler.

One for you!

Remember, be careful and protect your eyes.

Then what we need to do is stretch the string so it's nice and firm

and then staple it on the other side.

That's it!

Use a few staples on each side to ensure they're securely attached,

then tidy up the ends.

Perfect.

Brilliant.

The frame's almost ready.

We can turn it over and we can start decorating it.

Use clips and mini pegs to attach your favourite memories.

That looks amazing! Well done. High five.

Well done, let's go!

It's been a tough start for the Dengineers, but with three

days until the big reveal, things are slowly coming together.

The plastering has been completed, the walls are drying, and a

team is getting to work fitting a specialist dance floor.

It's really clever, with a base layer which sets like a spongy concrete,

meaning when you add vinyl flooring on top,

the whole thing acts like a big shock absorber when you dance on it.

Awesome!

There are just three days until the big reveal and at last,

designer Olga can get her hands on the den space.

One, two, three.

Her team can start to move furniture into place

and paint the entrance area to keep the build inching forward.

Meanwhile, I think the girls need a bit of expert advice to get the

most out of their den, so I'm taking them off for some den-spriation.

I'm going to take you to see some people now that will

give you a lot of inspiration for the den.

And trust me, you're going to love to meet these people.

-Who are they?

-Oh, you'll have to wait and see.

In fact, I can hear them starting up now.

Flawless are one of the UK's top street dance troupes.

They normally bust awesome moves like these to massive crowds.

But today, they've agreed to give

Jazz and Katelyn their own personal dance lesson.

Wow!

That is incredible.

Girls, I want you to meet the world-famous Flawless!

Are you up for having some moves taught to you by one of the

-most famous dance groups in the world?

-Yeah.

-Yeah.

Yeah? Let's go!

OK, Mark, you're not getting away with this one.

-If you can just come and slot in?

-No problem!

Being top dancers themselves, Jazz and Katelyn are picking

this up quickly, but it's not as easy as they make it look.

I'm sweating, man, that's ridiculous!

-Do you want to try it with music?

-Yes!

-Yeah?

'I've got to forget about me sweat patches if we're going to nail this.'

That's a clean worm right there.

28 high fives later, Jazz and Katelyn can head home with

some awesome Flawless dance moves.

While we check out a den hack no stylish dance fan should be without.

Picture the scene, you're off to dance class and you've left

your gym kit in your locker.

Nightmare!

Well, worry not, my friends,

because this is the hoodie bag hack!

Take one, preferably washed, hooded sweater

and two elastic bands.

Reach inside and grab the hood, and pull it inside out.

Then take the neck cord and tie it

in a knot around the scrunched-up hood.

Next, turn the whole thing over,

grab one of the arms and feed

it through the front pockets

until it pops out the opposite side.

Now grab the other arm and use one

elastic band to tie the wrists together.

Finally, take your belongings

and stuff them inside.

Before using the other elastic band

to seal the top.

Then, off you go, you stylish little rascal.

It's early morning in Stoke, and Dengineers Jazz and Katelyn,

are already hard at work.

The team have just 30 hours until the big den reveal, so I'm

desperate to see how designer Olga is getting on down in the cellar.

Careful on the steps here as we come down here, cameraman.

I hope everything's going to plan.

-Hi, Olga.

-Hello!

-Hi. So, it's reveal day tomorrow.

-Yes.

It's looking better than when we started,

but there's clearly quite a long way to go, isn't there?

But I'm pretty confident that we're going to make it.

-Are you confident?

-Yes, I am!

-OK, well, what can I do to help?

-You look more worried than me.

I feel kind of worried, I feel a little bit worried.

No, I'm sure we'll be fine!

No, we'll be fine but you need to help me

-and the girls are going to have to help as well.

-OK.

Unfortunately, Olga's not picked the nicest job for us. She needs

the plastered walls sanding, and that means one thing,

sweaty goggles and face masks.

-My goggles have steamed up!

-Ready to sand?

-BOTH: Yeah!

-Let's go.

Ah, there's no finer sight than a team of Dengineers grafting away.

But like any workforce,

we need regular breaks and regular praise to keep us motivated.

I reckon Olga's going to be pretty happy with that,

-do you think?

-Yeah!

-Yeah.

Shall we go and call it a day for now and go and get a drink?

-BOTH: Yeah!

-I'm thirsty, let's go! Come on!

-I don't think you've finished yet.

-What?

-It's not done.

We have. It's really smooth!

It's not...it's almost done!

Well, it can't be almost done. You need it to be absolutely perfect!

OK, we'll do some more, Olga.

'Olga's the strictest designer in history. But it's working.'

All of a sudden, it feels like the finished den is getting closer.

White walls are so not Dengineers!

We need sparkly, glitzy stripes.

We want to keep Olga's awesome handmade details a surprise,

so from now on, Jasmine and Katelyn stay out.

So, it's been a really good day today.

I think the girls and Olga have been working really hard,

but the thing is, is that we've got quite a lot to do tomorrow.

We've got walls that need to dry out overnight, so I think maybe

the best thing for tonight is just to get off, get a good

night's sleep, head back tomorrow and get to work.

It's reveal day in Jazz and Katelyn's dance den.

The all-important centrepiece - the mirror -

is slotted into place and finished off with a ballet bar.

All of a sudden, the damp cellar from a few days ago

is starting to resemble the girls' dream.

With just four hours to go until the girls are allowed back in,

it's like a Dengineers ant colony down there.

Where am I gluing?

Jasmine and Katelyn, and anyone else who fancies a go,

are finishing off the last piece of furniture upstairs...

Director's getting involved sorting this out

cos we can't do it on our own, apparently.

..so they won't see how Olga's plan is coming together.

I just love the floor, it's like...

-It makes you just want to dance.

-Yeah!

In a frantic last push,

the last pieces of the den are slotted into place.

With some final touches of paint.

Then a quick vacuum clean.

We're finally ready for the red, or should I say pink carpet opening

of Jasmine and Katelyn's den.

That is wicked!

-Look at that.

-Look how bright it is!

It's incredible!

After five days of hard work, 100 bags of clutter moved,

several tonnes of damp-proofing cement, 25 litres of paint,

and lots of help from Keith,

the Dengineers have transformed a dark, damp cellar

into an ultra-glam modern dance space.

The moment has come for Jazz and Katelyn to see the completed den

for the very first time.

It's amazing.

Wow!

I love it.

Oh, that's what the spots were for!

THEY GASP

It's our faces.

Oh, I can't believe it!

The telly's bigger than me mum's!

THEY LAUGH

-It's massive, innit?

-Yeah.

It was such a short time to achieve all of this.

Jazz and Katelyn now have the ultimate dance den to perfect

their moves in front of a huge mirror and under studio spotlights.

An awesome sound system and a massive internet TV makes

this the perfect place to chill out after practice.

And most important of all, the girls have got their glitter ball!

They love it, but what about their mums?

Oh, incredible!

Oh, this is fantastic!
