is using the power of electrisitron,

I'm going to move the helicopter upwards.

It's going to lift off slightly.

And you're going to tell me what is going to happen

to the number displayed on the scale.

So, what is going to happen to the weight displayed upon the scales

as the helicopter lifts off?

Dr Ollie, you're holding the green card there. Why B?

Because we thought since the helicopter

is no longer on the scales,

the weight of the pressure on the scales would decrease

since there's not enough pressure

from the weight of the helicopter on it.

Ah, it's all about pressure.

Very good.

Now, you've all come up with the same answer,

but I'd like to know, was your thinking roughly the same?

Let's see. Now, what was your thinking, Dr Yasmin?

Our thinking was similar to the Green team's because, erm,

since the weight of the helicopter was going up...was going down

cos of gravity, so we thought the scales would decrease.

We have gravity. We have the pressure.

So what about the Blues? What was your thinking, Dr Toby?

Well, basically as the helicopter goes up the weight will decrease

because there's no more pressure

because the helicopter's in the air.

It's that pressure again. I'm feeling that pressure again.

Well, intriguingly, they've all come up with the same answer.

But will it be the right one?

There's only one way to find out. Let's try it!

as the helicopter's trying to go up and the numbers...

So that means, I'm afraid, teams, all of you were wrong.

You see, the weight on the scales actually increases

as the helicopter rises.

This is because extra force is pushed downwards

as it gets itself airborne, and once the helicopter is up and hovering,

it needs to keep pushing its own weight of air

downwards to stay up.

So, if it were directly above the scales they would show

the same weight as when the helicopter is on the ground.

Ha-ha, isn't that weird?

Our second challenge - the creative one.

Time now to use a different part of the brain.

Welcome to this, the Monkey Carlo Grand Prix!

And the tension grows here as we await

the waving of the chequered flag.

I've always wanted to do that.

Tick. So what do we have here? A powerless cart.

Now the question is...

Which team can come up with a plan to make the powerless cart

get the furthest along the track?

Well, we gave them three days

and a massive budget of £50,000, divided by a thousand,

to see what they come up with.

But who will take pole position for this race?

Somebody who we hope is going to be very, very scared.

are Orla, Tom, and Ollie.

Orla loves horses and wants to be

an equine vet when she's older.

Will her team give maximum

horsepower to the cart?

NEIGH, I say.

So, Green Galaxies, this is your plan.

What is it? What's the name of it?

It's the Operation Brilliant Bungee.

Operation Brilliant Bungee.

I like that. So what have we got here, Dr Ollie?

We have a cart and a bungee cord,

and hopefully, using a pull and release mechanism,

the bungee cord will create enough force

to push the cart to the finish.

They've thought this out pretty well, haven't they?

-How do you feel, Guinea Pig?

-Do you really expect this to work?

Bungee chords are used for making people jump off buildings.

We'll try it and I think it will work, Mr Guinea Pig.

No, no, I'll try it and you think it will work, but it won't.

And I'm going to go careening through the other end of the studio.

Well, if you do, that'll be ten points to the Green Galaxies

because, of course, the game is about how far you can get.

The Green Galaxies hope that their bungee cord idea

will launch the cart and the guinea pig

across the floor towards the goal line.

With the right geometry, tension, kinetic energy,

and a little bit of luck and a fair wind, it might just work!

have adopted a nautical approach to this challenge.

By adding a sail to the cart

and pushing a small wind machine behind,

they hope to blow it all the way along the track.

For auxiliary power, the guinea pig has been armed with oar plungers

to propel himself along... OR not, maybe. Ha-ha!

So, Guinea Pig's in place. Your plan is about to be deployed.

is heating up magnesium

an incredibly bright light.

So, unfortunately the green mark is now completely obliterated.

Wiped clean because, look, the Blue's almost made it to the end.

So that means, Yellow Neutrons, you have to make it all the way through

to pick up the ten Honour Points. How do you feel about that?

so when the cart comes into contact with the ground

and hit the guinea pig.
