First of all you need to get a vague idea of where you're going.

Another really important skill in climbing is called traversing,

which is where you climb across-wards rather than upwards.

What you've got to do is look for grips which are going sideways

and just move across, left or right.

We also use it to warm up and get the blood pumping in our fingers.

First of all you need to check if all your harnesses

Then we need to tie your knot using a figure of eight.

And now we need to tie a stopper knot, just in case that comes undone.

Always make sure you're knot is tied by an experienced climber.

Staring up at a climbing wall can be a pretty frightening thing.

But it's really not that scary once you start.

Get yourself down to your nearest climbing centre for a lesson.

Conquering your fear.

First of all, start off on a small wall.

Then, once you feel comfortable, go onto a bigger wall,

making sure you're always roped in.

To start, place your foot on the lowest safe hold.

Once you feel secure, reach up and pull yourself up on another.

Repeat until you are as high as you feel comfortable.

Make sure you're always wearing your safety gear,

and you're roped into an instructor.

Plus, under-18s should always wear a helmet for safety.
