Today, Megan and Rocky, Talia and Crystal and Katie and Danny Boy

are going to have their patience pushed to the limit

with a very challenging stunt. Let's see them in action at the try-outs.

Young dog trainers came to the try-outs from across the UK,

desperate to get to the Dog House for a chance to win the Top Dog Trainer Trophy.

First to secure a place for today's challenge

was a trainer hoping to give her dog a second chance.

My name is Megan and this is Rocky.

I really want him to get on because he's been rejected as a guide dog.

He shouldn't be rejected from this.

This is Rocky's time to shine.

-Go ahead and show me what you got.

-Fetch!

-That's what I'm talking about.

-OK...

I think Rocky's going to make it to the Dog House

because he's just the best dog in the world and he deserves it.

My name is Katie, I come from Carlisle and this is Danny Boy.

I love spending time with him, he loves life.

It'd mean everything to get into the Dog House.

Tall... Walk.

It's amazing just to get this far but to get to the Dog House,

that would be more fantastic.

Yeah, nice work!

We're going to do this, we'll get it done.

-Come on then, Dan.

-Yeah, he opened it!

I'm so proud of him for even getting this far.

Katie and Danny Boy understand each other.

There was no challenge they couldn't meet. I was impressed with them.

Zak knew that Katie and Danny Boy and Megan and Rocky

would be perfect for today's challenge

but he was less certain about the final team to try out.

My name's Talia and this is Crystal.

She's a white German Shepherd.

Explain why you don't want her off leash?

Sometimes she gets distracted by other things.

A lot of people would be tempted to take their dog off leash,

to show they're really obedient,

but you have an eight-month old dog, she hasn't been taught the rules.

I'd love to go to the Dog House to teach Crystal new things.

Good girl.

I see that she adores you.

-Nice.

-Good girl.

-Very good.

Her dog is still too young, I think,

to do well on any of the tricks I'm thinking out,

but you can see that they adore each other.

That's what having a dog is truly about.

Absolutely love it!

Zak wanted to take a gamble on Talia and Crystal

so after getting the OK from Crystal's vet, he decided

they could join the other teams to try out his latest challenge.

Hiya, guys, get excited!

We've got a good one today.

Today we're going to teach your dogs how to stand on two legs

and push a baby stroller.

Or, as you call it in the UK, a pram.

For this trick, the dogs are going to have to learn

how to stand on two legs and push the Who Let the Dogs Out pram.

At Showtime, the team that completes the course in the fastest time

will go through to the quarter-final.

-Are you guys ready to get into training.

-Yes!

Let's do it. Talia, let's start with you,

let's encourage Crystal to put her paws up here.

-Let her know that you like that.

-Good girl.

I wasn't expecting her to do it immediately. That was incredible

and your timing is impeccable. That is beautiful.

Timing is so important.

The moment our dogs do something we like,

we let them know instantly, if possible.

-I want you to keep working on that. Do you know what to do?

-Yeah.

I'm going over to Megan and Rocky and we'll see what we go over here.

Oh, Rocky...

Oh dear, I don't think Rocky's focused on the task in hand.

-Not again.

-We've lost Rocky.

Looks like Megan might have her work cut out.

Rocky's more interested in his ball than his training. Now what?

Wondering what a clicker is? Well listen up.

Dog trainers use a clicky thing to tell their dog

he's done something right.

They click, give a treat and the dog soon learns

that a click means a treat is on its way.

Now calm, calm.

Put your paws on it. Put your paws on it.

-Yes!

-Good dog!

-Very good.

-Yes, absolutely wonderful.

-Good. Ball...

It's OK.

I'm going to move onto Katie and Danny Boy. How are we doing?

I think Rocky could take a leaf out of Danny Boy's book.

-Yes, whoa.

Good boy!

I'm looking at the way you look at each other

and it's very mature. I can tell you know what you're doing.

There's just this very cool, calmness about you,

-is very impressive with you guys.

-Good boy.

-That is fantastic.

-Good boy.

This trick requires enormous patience

and these trainers will realise the most challenging part is at the beginning.

As their dog progresses, they'll have to keep their energy up,

in order to keep their dogs engaged.

Megan, Talia and Katie are all getting on pretty well,

but it's not just us humans who like to make friends.

Dogs can find friends in the most unlikely places.

What makes the perfect friend?

Someone to hug when you're feeling down.

Someone who always picks out the best bits in you.

A good friend will stand up for you in the face of huge opposition.

And best friends share everything.

Even when they don't really want to.

Some friends can become too attached.

But whether large...

Or small...

..always show your friends how much you care.

Now the teams have had a chance to get their dogs used to the pram,

or "stroller" as Zak calls it,

it's time for the next stage of training.

Talia and Crystal, our next step is asking for more and more time.

I think if you got a little bit more engaging,

she might do better. Let's do it one more time

-and we'll see if we can get two steps.

-Good girl. Come on.

-See if we can get her to push it.

-Good girl.

In the early stages, we're still going to reward her on that

because she's making an effort and it's early.

We don't want to be stingy with our rewards, early in the training.

Talia and Crystal still have plenty of work to do.

All we did there was get a little bit closer.

Guys, you've got one week, take your prams home and good luck to you.

After day one of training some of the teams are beginning to realise

that it'll take some seriously hard work to master this trick.

What Rocky and I are struggling with,

is he's started pulling me and pulling me.

I think I'm going to end up with a dislocated shoulder

by the time I get back home. But, that's dog training for you.

I think if we keep training, the more she'll know it,

and the better she'll be at it.

When I get home I'll probably do half an hour in the morning

and I'll do half an hour in the evening

and then she'll be better at it.

My initial reaction was, "Oh, no" when he took off

the cover on the pram,

but once he got on it and he was steering and he was pushing it,

I was really pleased with him.

I was really happy that I got that trick.

Danny Boy, Rocky and Crystal are three different dogs.

Let's see what makes them amazing in their own way.

Meet Danny Boy, an eight-year-old Bearded Collie.

Danny Boy was named after Katie's Dad's favourite Irish song.

Bearded Collies can be fast learners

so Danny Boy is definitely one to watch in the competition!

Next up is Rocky.

Rocky is an eight-year-old Golden Retriever who Megan says

can be a bit of a drama queen as he pretends to limp

when he wants sympathy!

Golden Retrievers are usually very eager to please,

so Rocky will want to do everything he can to help Megan

grab that quarter-final place.

Crystal is a White German Shepherd

and, at nearly a year old is still just a puppy.

Crystal loves to swim in the river and go on car rides to parks.

German Shepherds need lots of stimulation

and they thrive on challenges, but will Crystal

be up for this challenge?

After a week practising at home,

the trainers have returned to the Dog House for some final tips

from Zak before Showtime.

I think everything is going all right.

Just when she does it for a while,

she tends to jump down because she gets tired.

The problem is, he thinks I'm the pram

and jumps on me, so that's beginning to get into a problem.

Danny Boy, I think, is doing too well for his own good.

So Danny Boy's definitely my biggest competition.

Danny Boy's got a lot more advanced that I thought he would be.

At home the training is going fantastically well.

Danny Boy, he can push it by himself without me touching the pram.

This is fantastic!

You guys can practise if you want, or you can watch. That's up to you.

Megan, tell me how training's been going?

He's managed to push it a little bit but he's developed a bad habit.

He jumps on the pram and then tries to climb onto me.

The way you discouraged that is, "No, that's not right.

"Go back here, let's do it right."

-Show me how Rocky is doing, please.

-OK. Push, push.

Push, push, push. Push, push, push.

Push, push, push.

Well, Rocky is definitely more focused than last week

but I think Megan is the one doing all the pushing.

-Has he been successful on being able to push on his own?

-A little bit

but most of the time I have to push it.

At Showtime anyone having to help their dog push the trolley

will incur a time penalty,

so the dogs need to learn to do it by themselves.

Let's encourage him to get a running start.

Just a little bit of a running start.

Just enough to nudge it here.

-Good.

-Good boy.

Right, good, back again.

Let's keep this momentum going.

Right now his energy is holding up well.

-And there he goes.

-Good boy!

-Good , much better.

OK, now stop. At this point, it's time to stop helping him along

because you've got Showtime in just a few days from now.

That is the ideal, most sincere genuine tone

to have when teaching your dog and you get results quickly.

Pushing a pram might be easy for most of us, but for a dog

it requires skill, strength and some very patient training.

Here are Zak's five steps to teaching your dog to push a pram.

One, before encouraging your dog onto the pram,

please ensure there are no actual babies inside.

Two, using treats, begin to lure your dog forward

and reward generously.

Three, employ a running start to gain momentum.

Four, ignore incorrect behaviour.

Use plenty of encouragement to keep your dog motivated.

Five, reduce the rewards and increase the distance.

Before you know it, your dog will be pram-tastic.

I'm not sure if we can win Showtime but I think

if we just give it our all, we might get something out of it.

If you don't put anything in, you won't get anything out.

I'm proud of her. I'm surprised how far she's actually gone.

I think my biggest competition is Danny Boy and Katie.

It sounds like they're doing really well.

Danny Boy's improvement has been quite a lot because at home,

we've practised on tarmac and it's completely different to on grass.

Today was his very first time doing it unassisted on grass

and he really surprised me that he could push it unassisted.

Today I'm going to show you how to teach your dog a fun flashy trick.

Come on in, Nellie. All right.

Very good. I'm going to give you a treat.

I'm going to show you how to teach your dog to weave between your legs.

Come from a heel position and I'm just going to put her

on my left side like this.

I'm going to stand like this and lure her through my legs,

letting her know I like it. I'm not going to ask too much too early.

Step forward, again, same thing. Over here. Very good.

Rewarding along the way. Very good.

Yes. Good. Look at you, Nellie. Fantastic. Over here.

Nellie. There we go. Very good. She's doing really well.

I want to let her know I appreciate she's working really hard.

Now I'm going to give her a reward. She did it three times.

I'm being a little less frequent with my rewards.

Some people say that their dogs make them feel better when they're under

the weather, but these next dogs

take that to a completely different level.

Check out these life-saving doctor dogs.

Dogs are constantly finding new ways to impress us and now

they're even turning to medicine to show us just how amazing they are.

Shirley is not your average pet dog.

She's also doctor to Rebecca, who has a condition called diabetes.

Rebecca has to be careful that the sugar levels in her body

don't drop too low. That is where Shirley comes in.

My sugar level drops. She senses it.

Shirley can detect when Rebecca's sugar levels drop,

using her incredible sense of smell.

She gives Rebecca a warning lick, then fetches mum to run a test.

A sugary drink and Rebecca is as good as new.

Shirley's my best friend. She saves my life.

Two weeks intensive pram pushing training is over.

It's time for our three teams to battle it out

for a place in the quarter-finals.

After all their hard work,

two teams will have to leave the competition today.

The other dogs are getting on really well.

I've got really good competition with both of them.

Who has the edge?

I think it's close. Really close to each other.

I think it's going to be a good competition.

Who will push their way to a quarter-final place?

I'm not really sure. Time will tell. I have no idea who's going to win.

It is time to find out.

It's Showtime for our pram pushing dogs

and this is where it's all going to take place.

Prams will be positioned at the start of the course.

Then on the trainers command, the dogs will begin pushing their prams.

The dog that covers ten metres in the fastest time will be the winner

and move on to the quarter-finals.

The teams will have two minutes to complete the course and each team

will have three chances, but anyone touching the trolley to help

their dog along will automatically incur a 30 second time penalty.

First up, Katie and Danny Boy.

Katie and Danny Boy have been firm favourites from the beginning.

Katie's communication skills

and Danny Boy's ability have placed them in the driving seat.

Another solid performance now and victory will be theirs.

-Katie and Danny Boy, your time starts now.

-Danny, here. Stay.

Great focus, as always.

Up, up.

And they're off.

Come on, come on.

Except they're not. This is unexpected.

They've stalled at the start line.

Come on, come on, you can do it. Come on.

Katie is really encouraging him. And rewarding as much as she can.

But it's no use. After two minutes, the clock finally beat them.

Your time is up. Good job of keeping it positive, Katie. Nice work.

Your time starts now.

They have two chances left to get to the finish.

Can they do it this time?

Up, good boy. Yes! What a boy! Yes!

Oh, no. It looks like it's happening again.

Come on, that's it, boy.

Hang on. It looks like Katie's decided she's going

to have to give Danny Boy some help. That'll get them over the line

but it's going to be at the cost of a hefty penalty.

Unbelievable!

Well done, you two. A time of 28 seconds,

but that penalty takes them up to a total time of 58 seconds.

Will it be enough?

Next up, Megan and Rocky.

Megan and Rocky had what you might call a rocky start to the training.

Megan struggled to keep control of Rocky,

but with patience she managed to keep him focused.

Now the pressure is on, can she maintain her control?

Megan and Rocky, your time starts now.

Up. Push, push, push.

Come on. Push, push, push.

Oh, dear. I think we've been here before.

Rocky can't get that pram going either.

-Come on, push.

-Megan is definitely in control.

But despite come fantastic encouragement,

she can't seem to get Rocky moving.

-Push, come on.

-Your time is up. Don't be discouraged.

You've got two more chances. Megan and Rocky, your time starts now.

They are off and they're flying.

Push, push, push, push, push, push.

But I think Zak suspects Rocky might also be getting some assistance.

And he's right.

Just like Katie, Megan has decided that the only option

is to help Rocky along.

It's a risky strategy, but has it paid off?

-Come on!

-It looked good.

A really impressive time of 25 seconds,

but that 30 second penalty takes their total time to 55 seconds.

They have beaten Katie and Danny Boy,

but have they done it fast enough to beat the final team?

Next up, Talia and Crystal.

Talia and Crystal were Zak's wildcard entry to the Doghouse.

He could tell they had a strong bond

but felt Crystal might simply be too young to handle the contest.

Since then, Talia has had to work hard to keep Crystal motivated.

It's time to find out if all that training was worth it.

-Talia and Crystal, your time starts now.

-Crystal, come on. Push.

Good girl. Come on. Push. Push.

Another slow start. Are these two going to have the same problem?

Oh, hold on. Crystal is doing it.

And crucially, Talia is not touching the pram.

But it is slow progress.

She's been really working on that throughout training.

They are almost there. But will they do it in time?

Yes! A fantastic effort there!

Talia and Crystal were the only ones to complete

the course on their first attempt and without any penalty.

But was their time quick enough to take them into the next round?

What I noticed about all three of you is that you kept training

really positive and loving with your dog at all times

and all of you made it past that finish line, one way or another.

That was impressive. Sometimes our dogs need our help along the way

and you guys were willing to provide that. That was great.

But I can reveal that the winner of today's pram pushing challenge

with a time of 47 seconds is...

Talia and Crystal. Congratulations.

You will move on to the next round

with an incredible performance today.

-Absolutely. Tell me how you feel.

-Great. I'm speechless.

-And just surprised as well.
