Good morning. Here is what is coming up. | :00:09. | :00:15.
A micro pub in Kent, targeted by thieves not once, but twice. | :00:16. | :00:18.
As soon as I arrived I saw a hole where they came | :00:19. | :00:21.
And we send Michelle back to the front line. | :00:22. | :00:24.
Facing up to would be rioters at the Met's | :00:25. | :00:27.
Hello and welcome to Crimewatch Roadshow. | :00:28. | :00:58.
As always, we need your help to solve | :00:59. | :01:00.
The young man on a rare night out for his 19th birthday, | :01:01. | :01:08.
stabbed to death. Can you help find his killer? | :01:09. | :01:13.
Who thinks that going out to a birthday party means | :01:14. | :01:15.
And we'll be behind the scenes with the Met as they police | :01:16. | :01:20.
the streets during one of the biggest marches of the year. | :01:21. | :01:28.
Can you get the mobile CCTV to make their way down there? There is | :01:29. | :01:32.
another protest planned there. Today, Michelle is at the Met's | :01:33. | :01:35.
state of the art training centre I am walking through what appears to | :01:36. | :01:38.
be a small typical town. Keep watching to see what happens | :01:39. | :01:45.
when the locals go a bit loco. Next, a one room pub in Kent owned | :01:46. | :01:49.
by two friends hit by a burglar who took every last penny - | :01:50. | :01:55.
even the money they'd Herne Bay, a seaside town with an | :01:56. | :02:10.
historic pier and a promenade dating back to Victorian times. But more | :02:11. | :02:14.
recently it has become famous for something else. It is the birthplace | :02:15. | :02:20.
of the micro pub. A micro pub is basically one room. It can be a | :02:21. | :02:30.
small shop. This one was a pet shop. They are community Pubs. It is all | :02:31. | :02:35.
about conversation and nothing else to interfere with that. For the past | :02:36. | :02:40.
couple of years, Gary and Gavin have run the Copper Pottle together. All | :02:41. | :02:46.
of the customers know it is either myself or my Gary. There is a lot of | :02:47. | :02:51.
Mickey taking because of my sunset looks and my hair. I wouldn't like | :02:52. | :02:58.
to suggest I do more, but he is quite slow, Gavin. It is about half | :02:59. | :03:04.
and half. We do have rules. We don't have mobile phones, we don't have | :03:05. | :03:12.
electronic cigarettes. We have a system if anybody's mobile phone | :03:13. | :03:16.
goes off. Most people have no objection to putting ?1 at the | :03:17. | :03:20.
charity box. Business was going well. But their success attracted | :03:21. | :03:29.
some unwelcome attention. On the 16th of February, Gavin locked up as | :03:30. | :03:33.
normal. But during the early hours, the pub had an unwanted visitor. | :03:34. | :03:47.
The following morning, Gavin went to open up. As soon as I arrived, I saw | :03:48. | :03:56.
a hole, where they came through on the glass. The burglar had emptied | :03:57. | :04:03.
the till and taken about ?150. We thought, don't worry, we have CCTV. | :04:04. | :04:08.
The burglar had also stolen the CCTV. We knew straightaway there was | :04:09. | :04:16.
no way we are all going to catch them because of lack of evidence. It | :04:17. | :04:20.
is terrible. It is just an invasion of your privacy. It was pretty | :04:21. | :04:30.
devastating, to be honest. With the CCTV footage gone, all Gary and | :04:31. | :04:33.
Gavin could do was repair the damage and carry on with business as usual. | :04:34. | :04:40.
But less than two months later, they were targeted again. I turned up and | :04:41. | :04:48.
there it was, the hole. I could see another hole. But this time on | :04:49. | :04:55.
another window. What the burglar didn't know was that Gavin and Gary | :04:56. | :05:01.
had since gone to town on CCTV. Now every angle was covered. There was | :05:02. | :05:05.
nowhere for the defeat to hide. That's MacPhee. Bingo, we got them. | :05:06. | :05:12.
He could be seen rummaging around, looking for a lute. -- looking for | :05:13. | :05:21.
money. He stops to have a munch on some leftover birthday treats on the | :05:22. | :05:27.
bar. But not satisfied, this greedy bird lifted the unthinkable and | :05:28. | :05:33.
swiped the charity box. You just don't expect someone to steal | :05:34. | :05:41.
directly from charity. The money that is collected is for disabled | :05:42. | :05:46.
children and adults. I just don't understand why they should just go | :05:47. | :05:50.
for a charity pot. That is the lowest of the low. This is an | :05:51. | :05:58.
individual who has been very callous with his crime. He has targeted a | :05:59. | :06:03.
small, family run business. He has gone to the back office, where he | :06:04. | :06:06.
has taken small amounts of money, and more pertinently, he has stolen | :06:07. | :06:13.
a charity collection box containing approximately ?200. Whilst that | :06:14. | :06:16.
equates to a relatively small amount of money, it is the bigger emotional | :06:17. | :06:23.
effect. There is also an element of when they lock the doors at night, | :06:24. | :06:27.
when they come in the next morning, when there have been another | :06:28. | :06:32.
break-in? Everybody says, you are insured. We still have to pay an | :06:33. | :06:37.
excess each time. We will definitely carry on with the charity. We have | :06:38. | :06:43.
raised over ?3500. We think it is important to support it. They could | :06:44. | :06:47.
have thrashed the place, they could have torched it, they could have | :06:48. | :06:51.
done something. The worst thing is it was February. Six weeks later, | :06:52. | :06:57.
again. How long is this going to happen? This is where we want to | :06:58. | :07:01.
catch him. Detective Sergeant Marc | :07:02. | :07:03.
Cananur is with me now. Getting burgled once | :07:04. | :07:06.
is unlucky, but twice? Is there anything to suggest these | :07:07. | :07:09.
two burglaries could be linked? Frustratingly, we can't say | :07:10. | :07:21.
categorically. The suspect on the first break-in stole the CCTV. | :07:22. | :07:27.
Tauqir us through the CCTV you do have from the second burglary? He | :07:28. | :07:32.
came in through the front window. He stole the charity box. We know he is | :07:33. | :07:38.
20 years old, he wears Nike air Max trainers, trousers and crucially, a | :07:39. | :07:42.
North face jacket. He has come a cropper paid because he has got | :07:43. | :07:46.
gloves and a torch. How much money was taken? Approximately ?200. That | :07:47. | :07:54.
is money that has been raised by the local residents and customers of the | :07:55. | :07:58.
pub. It is frustrating and soul destroying to know that money has | :07:59. | :08:02.
ended up on the wrong hands. Gavin and Gary have raised in excess of | :08:03. | :08:08.
?3500 over the last couple of years in charity events. Really | :08:09. | :08:12.
frustrating. Fingers crossed we can help and find the man who did this. | :08:13. | :08:18.
And it's worth knowing that victims of any crime can | :08:19. | :08:20.
Time for more crooks caught on camera now | :08:21. | :08:25.
There may be someone you recognise. Watch carefully. | :08:26. | :08:35.
And be warned - a couple of these are pretty full on. | :08:36. | :08:39.
It is the early hours of the morning but the party is still going in this | :08:40. | :08:47.
Leeds bar. Keep your eyes on the man wearing a black T-shirt with a | :08:48. | :08:51.
distinctive white logo. Everyone else seems to be having a good time. | :08:52. | :08:56.
But out of nowhere, he smacks the bloke next to him full force in the | :08:57. | :09:02.
face. And lashes out at another partygoer with a flurry of punches, | :09:03. | :09:06.
only stopping when he is dragged away. The first victim needed | :09:07. | :09:11.
emergency surgery on a badly broken nose. Police need your help to catch | :09:12. | :09:24.
this folk. Who is he? -- Vogue. It looks sunny outside above this | :09:25. | :09:28.
fellow is all wrapped up. I wonder why? Threatening the shopkeeper with | :09:29. | :09:32.
a knife, he forces his way behind the counter. He helps himself to | :09:33. | :09:39.
cash. Then turns his attention to the cigarette cabinet. Happy with | :09:40. | :09:50.
his lot, he tries to make a getaway. The shopkeeper has other ideas. | :09:51. | :09:54.
Attempting to grab the knife, they get locked in a struggle. The masked | :09:55. | :09:59.
man tries to break free by throwing around like a doll. Fortunately, the | :10:00. | :10:03.
shopkeeper wasn't hurt. But the crook still got away with around | :10:04. | :10:11.
?120 in cash. Police need your help to catch this masked man. | :10:12. | :10:22.
It's Christmas eve but this guy isn't quite getting into the spirit | :10:23. | :10:27.
of things. He forces his way into a mosque in central London. It looks | :10:28. | :10:35.
like he is on a mission. Kicking in the locked office door, he scrambles | :10:36. | :10:42.
around looking for things to pinch. Once satisfied, he scarper is as | :10:43. | :10:49.
quick as he can, stealing the imam's personal laptop, ?600 in cash and | :10:50. | :10:54.
causing around ?400 worth of damage. If you know who this crook is, then | :10:55. | :10:57.
call us now. We are ready and waiting | :10:58. | :11:00.
to take your calls. If you can identify anyone, | :11:01. | :11:02.
we need to hear from you now. Text CW, space and | :11:03. | :11:06.
then your message. Texts will be charged | :11:07. | :11:13.
at your standard message rate. These battle-worn streets | :11:14. | :11:20.
are where police learn the hard way to deal with public disorder, | :11:21. | :11:24.
riots and protests. Crucial for the Met, | :11:25. | :11:29.
given the number of major So we went along to see | :11:30. | :11:31.
how they do it for real on one of the biggest marches | :11:32. | :11:36.
of the year - May Day. Enforcing public order is one of the | :11:37. | :11:48.
riskiest and most high-profile elements of policing in the UK. | :11:49. | :11:52.
Officers at the Metropolitan police are on the front line, tasked with | :11:53. | :11:58.
keeping Londoners save. Today the streets of the city are hosting a | :11:59. | :12:01.
political mark that has the potential for trouble. It is May | :12:02. | :12:09.
Day. Good morning, everybody. Welcome to | :12:10. | :12:15.
May Day. At police HQ in Lambeth, the senior command team are keen to | :12:16. | :12:19.
get the public order policing strategy right. With 5000 marchers | :12:20. | :12:23.
expected to attend, it is vital this rally goes smoothly. Running the | :12:24. | :12:29.
operation is the gold commander Chief superintendent. | :12:30. | :12:37.
Intelligence set by me today are to maintain public order, to prove that | :12:38. | :12:42.
might prevent crime and to bring offenders to justice. I'm in charge | :12:43. | :12:48.
of the operation for today. Not just the operation itself but London from | :12:49. | :12:55.
a policing point of view. We have to ensure the protestors carry out | :12:56. | :12:58.
their march with no trouble whatsoever. Thank you for what | :12:59. | :13:00.
you're about to do for a London today. | :13:01. | :13:05.
The team on a finely honed operation. In the centre is | :13:06. | :13:13.
superintendent Mike Hill. We are currently in the special operations | :13:14. | :13:16.
room of the Metropolitan Police, where we control vast majority of | :13:17. | :13:22.
our events across London. Whenever an event occurs, we have the ability | :13:23. | :13:26.
to look and see what happening on the street, which is very useful for | :13:27. | :13:33.
us. The 15,000 CCTV cameras, and 300 officers at his command, he can | :13:34. | :13:36.
monitor and control every stage of today's operation. While out on the | :13:37. | :13:42.
street, superintendent Chris Nelson's bronze team are dealing | :13:43. | :13:47.
with events on the ground. We have a lot of experience and knowledge | :13:48. | :13:50.
about how these types of events pan out. We have intelligence leading up | :13:51. | :13:55.
to these deployments, so we understand as much as possible about | :13:56. | :13:58.
it, so there won't be any surprises on the day. As thousands of | :13:59. | :14:06.
protesters gather, the various factions are making their voices | :14:07. | :14:11.
heard. Amongst the peaceful marchers, police have their eye on | :14:12. | :14:14.
several anarchist groups and potential troublemakers. As the | :14:15. | :14:19.
start of the march approaches, all units already in position. We are | :14:20. | :14:23.
moving up now. As thousands of people gather in one | :14:24. | :14:43.
place, for bronze Commander Chris, the pressure is on. No surprises so | :14:44. | :14:51.
far. The march has moved as expected and just the tail end of it now | :14:52. | :14:57.
coming into Trafalgar Square. But as the speeches are underway, tensions | :14:58. | :15:02.
begin to rise. There is the odd flare, nothing of any major issue, | :15:03. | :15:06.
with flares, you've got to be careful around crowd dynamics. It's | :15:07. | :15:11.
not long before intelligence comes through the breakaway group. Can you | :15:12. | :15:16.
get the mobile CCTV to make their way down there? Big street. There is | :15:17. | :15:25.
another protest down. Some people are wearing masks and it's a CCTV | :15:26. | :15:31.
blindspot, and bronze Commander Louise is assessing the situation. | :15:32. | :15:34.
We are just monitoring them at the moment to make sure there is no | :15:35. | :15:38.
offences and there are not. People come here to do graffiti and they do | :15:39. | :15:43.
it all the time full survey don't usually have these kinds of numbers | :15:44. | :15:46.
with loud music so we are just here to monitor it at the moment. With no | :15:47. | :15:50.
warning, some of the group begins to move. We have 120 people going | :15:51. | :15:57.
somewhere and not telling us where they are going. These protesters are | :15:58. | :16:00.
completely off the official route for the March. They had towards one | :16:01. | :16:06.
of London's busiest bridges. What you can see here is one man has been | :16:07. | :16:13.
arrested for possession of a flare. And clearly, on a rest, this has got | :16:14. | :16:17.
the crowd going a little. They are moving about 100, I would say, no | :16:18. | :16:22.
indication where they are going to go. They are going straight through | :16:23. | :16:28.
the middle of Covent Garden market. This is a difficult situation for | :16:29. | :16:31.
the team. The narrow crowded streets of Covent Garden and Soho make the | :16:32. | :16:36.
protest harder to police and dangerous for the public. URA liar! | :16:37. | :16:46.
That is slander! They are going to a squat in Soho. The aim of the | :16:47. | :16:49.
operation now is to ensure the small breakaway crowd is escorted safely | :16:50. | :16:56.
to its destination. No further arrests are needed and the safety of | :16:57. | :16:58.
both the protesters and the wider public is secure. Today's operation | :16:59. | :17:06.
can start to wind down. Within an hour or so, we will be back to | :17:07. | :17:10.
normal London policing. We live in a democratic society so it's good to | :17:11. | :17:13.
protest. Protest is not an issue for us, and what we have done today is | :17:14. | :17:18.
ensure that people can peacefully protest, save the protest, with a | :17:19. | :17:22.
minimum disruption to the people of London. | :17:23. | :17:26.
Now, May Day passed off peacefully, but if police do need to get | :17:27. | :17:29.
into a barricaded building, this is where they | :17:30. | :17:31.
And these officers here are going to show me how it's done. | :17:32. | :17:36.
Your public order instruction here. I'm warning you. Put me through what | :17:37. | :17:49.
we're dealing with. You have a recess metal gate with a door behind | :17:50. | :17:54.
violent suspect inside, so we are going to bring officers around | :17:55. | :17:56.
specially trained to come round, get into the building, as quickly as | :17:57. | :18:01.
possible, and as safely. The reason we do this is to cause minimum | :18:02. | :18:04.
injury to the officers involved and likewise to the person we need to | :18:05. | :18:08.
deal with so they're coming down now, as you can see. The metal gate | :18:09. | :18:11.
they will have do get first before they can get to the door. We would | :18:12. | :18:15.
get you involved to deal with the door when they get in there. OK. | :18:16. | :18:29.
OK, right. I'm going to do this bed, the method of entry. Thank you very | :18:30. | :18:38.
much. Stand with my legs apart, 45 degrees. Brilliant. The door is | :18:39. | :18:43.
open. What is happening next? Now they will go into the premises. They | :18:44. | :18:47.
will look to dominate the space as quickly as possible, get control of | :18:48. | :18:51.
the suspect. Then get him out of the premises into the waiting transport | :18:52. | :18:56.
and back to police custody. It all happened so fast. Communication is | :18:57. | :19:00.
key. Yes, it's about knowing what everyone is doing, knowing what they | :19:01. | :19:04.
are doing, and just doing it, about training, practice and getting it | :19:05. | :19:08.
right. That enforcer is very, very heavy. You need bigger muscles to do | :19:09. | :19:12.
that. Rav, I'm sure you've knocked down a few doors during your | :19:13. | :19:16.
policing days. I have but I know who to call up by other get locked out | :19:17. | :19:19.
of my house again, Michelle, and that would be you. Well done. | :19:20. | :19:22.
There's still plenty more to come on today's programme, including... | :19:23. | :19:24.
30 years on from the notorious bedsit murders, | :19:25. | :19:26.
can you help finally bring the killer to justice? | :19:27. | :19:28.
And Michelle steps back into the fray. | :19:29. | :19:35.
Sexting is on the rise. 44% increase in the last year alone in the number | :19:36. | :19:57.
of child sexual offences which had an online element. | :19:58. | :20:00.
Just this week, 92-year-old Ivor Gifford was jailed | :20:01. | :20:02.
after attempting to meet an 11-year-old girl for sex. | :20:03. | :20:04.
In a separate case, Jane, which is not her real name, | :20:05. | :20:07.
was groomed over several months by the leader of the youth | :20:08. | :20:09.
She was just 15 years old when it started. | :20:10. | :20:12.
Jane wanted to share her story, her words are spoken by an actor | :20:13. | :20:15.
At first it was just casual, nothing inappropriate at first and then one | :20:16. | :20:28.
day, when I got up for school, I logged onto my Facebook to check it | :20:29. | :20:32.
and he messaged me and told me he was doing stuff while thinking of me | :20:33. | :20:36.
and then he got my number off my Facebook which I didn't realise he | :20:37. | :20:40.
could access. And he was text in me and he was using pet names for me | :20:41. | :20:44.
like chicken, things like that. And then he was telling me he had | :20:45. | :20:47.
feelings for me after that. I started getting really quipped out. | :20:48. | :20:49.
It was horrible. Well, a new law was | :20:50. | :20:51.
introduced in April It makes it a criminal offence | :20:52. | :20:54.
for an adult to send Lisa Vranch from the NSPCC | :20:55. | :20:58.
is here to explain. Why was it so important | :20:59. | :21:03.
to get new legislation? I think it's important to know | :21:04. | :21:15.
Sexting is a part of a sexual healthy relationship but grooming is | :21:16. | :21:18.
about exploitation so our campaign is obviously, one adult sends a | :21:19. | :21:23.
message to a young person, under the age of 16, then it's a different | :21:24. | :21:31.
matter. When it adult or child, it's important to make it highly illegal | :21:32. | :21:35.
it is now. What can parents do to protect their children? Keep an eye | :21:36. | :21:41.
on the digital world. Make sure the child understands what's going on, | :21:42. | :21:44.
who they are speaking to, that kind of thing. They can talk to one of | :21:45. | :21:50.
our gurus in the O2 shops. Parents can find out about how to keep their | :21:51. | :21:54.
children safe with settings and things like that. It's important to | :21:55. | :21:58.
talk to children about keeping safe online. Education is a big part of | :21:59. | :22:01.
this. We have some other language that children use when they are in | :22:02. | :22:07.
each other. Possibly an older person, though, so it's worth being | :22:08. | :22:11.
aware of. What have we got here, MIRL doesn't mean a lot to me that | :22:12. | :22:19.
you will explain what it is. It's to get to meet up, meet in real life. | :22:20. | :22:24.
It's part of the online community, the grooming culture, alienate and | :22:25. | :22:27.
isolate. Letter to the swing, quickly. Kiss on the lips, something | :22:28. | :22:33.
like I can't wait to meet you and kissing on the lips. Next one? Naked | :22:34. | :22:40.
in front of the camera. This could have a grooming nature to it but | :22:41. | :22:46.
could be language Sexting people could use. Certainly something to be | :22:47. | :22:49.
aware of and finally we have this one. Keeping parents clueless, to | :22:50. | :22:55.
alienate parents from the conversation but it's important to | :22:56. | :22:58.
know that parents should be actively involved in their child's online | :22:59. | :23:05.
will. -- world. Thank you very much for joining us, some great advice. | :23:06. | :23:10.
There's lots more on the ChildLine and NSPCC websites. | :23:11. | :23:12.
This week, we've been looking at the alarming rise | :23:13. | :23:14.
Amongst the many young lives that have been lost is the brother | :23:15. | :23:18.
of EastEnders actress Belinda Owusu, who was celebrating his | :23:19. | :23:21.
19th birthday when the unimaginable happened. | :23:22. | :23:33.
Who thinks that going out to a birthday party means that you need | :23:34. | :23:42.
to bring a knife? And take it out and be stupid enough to not think | :23:43. | :23:45.
that your actions could end this way? | :23:46. | :23:52.
Ziggy Owusu grew up in east London, recently started an apprenticeship | :23:53. | :23:58.
and had a promising career ahead of him. But family was also the most | :23:59. | :24:02.
important thing in his life. He juggled his work alongside caring | :24:03. | :24:07.
for his mum. She is deaf and blind, so she does require somebody to be | :24:08. | :24:14.
here with her. Ziggy was a massive part in helping you with that. | :24:15. | :24:18.
That's just the role he took on because that was the boy he was. I | :24:19. | :24:24.
was very, very proud of him. I always enjoyed his company. He was | :24:25. | :24:33.
into rugby, football, dancing. Music, really loved his PlayStation. | :24:34. | :24:41.
He was up for anything. He was always just like a good person, | :24:42. | :24:47.
somebody you know you could tell rings to and who cared about you and | :24:48. | :24:53.
just somebody with a good spirit. Who would do good and would be a | :24:54. | :25:02.
great man. In October last year, Ziggy's friends convinced him to go | :25:03. | :25:07.
on a rare night out, his 19th birthday. They headed to the | :25:08. | :25:14.
basement lounge in Ilford. There was about 150 people at the party, so it | :25:15. | :25:18.
would have been really packed and they were all Ziggy's age, 18, 19, | :25:19. | :25:24.
people, lots of people Ziggy new, the East London area. It has no | :25:25. | :25:28.
alcohol venue but drinks were brought in and although the dress | :25:29. | :25:32.
code was smart, groups arrived wearing sportswear. Ziggy and his | :25:33. | :25:39.
friends moved to the dance floor area but it wasn't long before | :25:40. | :25:42.
things started to get out of control. A firework was let off and | :25:43. | :25:48.
people thought it was a gunshot. The mood settled but fights were | :25:49. | :25:51.
beginning to break out. Later there was a commotion and witnesses say | :25:52. | :25:58.
Ziggy stepped in. He wasn't the kind to get angry, get into fights, get | :25:59. | :26:03.
involved in anything that could escalate to that point. Jermaine had | :26:04. | :26:08.
warned Ziggy about playing the peacemaker in the past. I told him, | :26:09. | :26:14.
don't do that, because you will get hurtful sop he said, no, I won't, | :26:15. | :26:18.
and I said, stop it, because you'll end up with a knife in your chest. I | :26:19. | :26:24.
used to telling, don't get involved. Amongst the chaos, Ziggy was | :26:25. | :26:31.
attacked. He backed away and staggered towards the exit. CCTV | :26:32. | :26:37.
cameras outside the bar called the aftermath. About 12:40am, we see | :26:38. | :26:46.
most of the people emptying out of the club and I believe that is when | :26:47. | :26:49.
people realised what happened to Ziggy. The knife and cut through two | :26:50. | :26:56.
major blood vessels and within minutes, Ziggy had collapsed. At | :26:57. | :27:01.
1:45am, he was pronounced dead. The family got the call to say he had | :27:02. | :27:07.
bled to death. There is absolutely a million things I would have | :27:08. | :27:17.
predicted that called to be, but not one single idea, would it be that | :27:18. | :27:22.
Ziggy has been stabbed and is dead. The actual merger of Ziggy may have | :27:23. | :27:27.
been very quick and very quiet. He received one stab wound and that | :27:28. | :27:30.
could have been over in a split second. -- murder. This event has | :27:31. | :27:37.
completely devastated as family and the local community where Ziggy is | :27:38. | :27:42.
from. We all just want to put a picture together, so we can grieve. | :27:43. | :27:49.
Is not enough to lose somebody, it's not knowing why, not bad it makes it | :27:50. | :27:59.
any better, but understanding why lives and families are torn apart | :28:00. | :28:03.
and repetition read and you're just left to put things back together, | :28:04. | :28:06.
not even knowing how this happened in the first place. | :28:07. | :28:11.
With me now is Detective Chief Inspector Andrew Packer, | :28:12. | :28:14.
who's leading the investigation to find the killer. | :28:15. | :28:22.
The venue that night was very busy. And you believe there was someone | :28:23. | :28:30.
there at the bar who was responsible for Ziggy's Murder? Absolutely. | :28:31. | :28:35.
People know who has done this. There were about 200 to 250 people there. | :28:36. | :28:42.
I'm yet to speak to about 50 of those people. It was October last | :28:43. | :28:48.
year, halve Erm. Think back. Or your children at that party? Can you | :28:49. | :28:53.
remember where your children work? It was a Thursday. If you were | :28:54. | :28:56.
there, it is critical you come forward and speak to me. You are | :28:57. | :29:01.
keen to see some of the images people may have taken from that | :29:02. | :29:06.
night as well? Absolutely. As you can imagine, young people were | :29:07. | :29:10.
uploading images and videos. Have a look back at your phone from October | :29:11. | :29:16.
last year. Do you have any images from that party? It is critical I | :29:17. | :29:20.
see those. There is one person in particular you are keen to speak to? | :29:21. | :29:26.
Yes, this gentleman was at the she should bar and a convenience store | :29:27. | :29:30.
afterwards. He is a witness. If you know this person or this issue, | :29:31. | :29:37.
please come forward. Andrew Packer, thank you very much. If you have any | :29:38. | :29:41.
information. Get in contact. The numbers are on your screen. | :29:42. | :29:43.
27-year-old Shane Graham is a loving son and brother, | :29:44. | :29:45.
On the 29th April last year, he left work as a landscape | :29:46. | :29:49.
gardener in Ansdell, Lancashire, and simply disappeared. | :29:50. | :29:53.
He's not been seen or heard of since. | :29:54. | :29:56.
His distraught family and the police have been searching for clues ever | :29:57. | :30:01.
since, and are hoping today you can help and his mum joins us today. | :30:02. | :30:08.
Tracy, good morning. What is this last year Ben Lake? It has been | :30:09. | :30:19.
total hell. Your head is full of fears and your heart is full of | :30:20. | :30:23.
tears. The first thing you think of every morning is, or, no. You don't | :30:24. | :30:28.
want another day. You go to bed thinking if you don't hear anything, | :30:29. | :30:34.
you don't wake up. It is terrifying. You see things on the news about | :30:35. | :30:39.
scummy people being locked up for different things. There is such a | :30:40. | :30:46.
lot similar to Shane vanishing. You think, what is going on? | :30:47. | :30:47.
Detective Constable Marc Armstrong is leading the investigation. | :30:48. | :30:49.
What can you tell us about the 29th April 2016, | :30:50. | :30:52.
We know that Shane went to work as normal. He was working at a house on | :30:53. | :31:02.
Lansdowne Road. He had a minor disagreement with his boss shortly | :31:03. | :31:07.
after arriving at work. That resulted in him walking away from | :31:08. | :31:11.
the address. He travelled along Eddington Road towards the Inner | :31:12. | :31:13.
Promenade. That is the last sighting we have of him. At that time he was | :31:14. | :31:18.
wearing his work clothes, a black hooded top and black pants with some | :31:19. | :31:24.
writing on one of the calves. There was an exchange of text messages | :31:25. | :31:29.
between him and his boss, the last one at 10:39am. That is the last | :31:30. | :31:35.
one. If anybody saw him on that day or has seen him since, pick up the | :31:36. | :31:40.
phone and ring. I would like to appeal to Shane if he is watching, | :31:41. | :31:43.
if you have started a new life somewhere and you don't know -- you | :31:44. | :31:48.
don't want people to know where you are, ring us in total confidence and | :31:49. | :31:53.
put your family's mind at rest. Wei Xin is watching, what would you like | :31:54. | :31:59.
to say? Exactly the same. Let us know you are leading a new life. He | :32:00. | :32:05.
has got who has -- have done a lot of leaflet placing. His family in | :32:06. | :32:09.
Devon. And his sister. Since he has been gone, he has a new baby niece. | :32:10. | :32:14.
It is very emotional for everybody, the things he is missing out on. | :32:15. | :32:16.
Just be well and get in contact. Tracey, we hope you get | :32:17. | :32:18.
information soon. And if you know where Shane may be, | :32:19. | :32:22.
please get in touch. I am back in the riot gear now as | :32:23. | :32:37.
Sergeant Adam Nash is going to take me through another training | :32:38. | :32:41.
exercise. Now Adam, I was here this time last year and I helped the guys | :32:42. | :32:46.
take control of a street. It is incredibly nerve-racking. This time | :32:47. | :32:52.
we are going to bring more than one years, we are bringing three units. | :32:53. | :32:58.
We're going to make sure they take the junctions at the same time. It | :32:59. | :33:05.
is about working together. Taking up ground and getting ready to move. We | :33:06. | :33:10.
have the police coming down. As they come down, you will join with them. | :33:11. | :33:17.
You will move out and have a go. Listen to what you're told, keep | :33:18. | :33:21.
your head up and enjoy it. It is another experience you won't get | :33:22. | :33:26.
anywhere else. Hi, guys. Thanks, Adam. Thanks. Nice | :33:27. | :33:29.
to be back. Keep my head up. Jesus! Release the Tiger! Release the | :33:30. | :34:04.
Tiger! Halt! Experiment. Adam, how do you | :34:05. | :34:14.
think that went? Very good. We kept the lines. Kept moving around. It is | :34:15. | :34:22.
about practising, working together, listening to the commands. You kept | :34:23. | :34:26.
saying keep your head up but when you have got bricks flying to your | :34:27. | :34:30.
head, your natural instinct is to put your head down? It is. It is | :34:31. | :34:34.
about having confidence in your training and the equipment you are | :34:35. | :34:39.
wearing. If you look around you, you can see what is coming. Guys, thank | :34:40. | :34:43.
you very much for letting me get involved. I'm not sure if this is | :34:44. | :34:48.
something I'm going to get used to. But this is a walk in the park for | :34:49. | :34:52.
you, isn't it? You were brilliant. Well done. | :34:53. | :34:55.
Now it's time for a look at today's Wanted Faces. | :34:56. | :34:57.
Detectives would like to question him in connection with the sexual | :34:58. | :35:02.
Ghani is 31 and has links to Uxbridge, Southampton | :35:03. | :35:05.
Next, this smiling man is Hamza Hassan Said. | :35:06. | :35:11.
Detectives want to question him in connection with the supply | :35:12. | :35:14.
The 24-year-old also has links to Ilford | :35:15. | :35:17.
The 29-year-old is wanted for questioning after five burglaries | :35:18. | :35:26.
at shops across South East England, where the windows have been smashed | :35:27. | :35:29.
Mongan has an Irish accent and links to traveller sites in Lewisham, | :35:30. | :35:34.
Finally for today, this is Rafal Joseph Broda. | :35:35. | :35:42.
Detectives would like to speak to him in connection to a case | :35:43. | :35:45.
of blackmail and the breach of a restraining order. | :35:46. | :35:47.
He's also wanted for failing to appear in court. | :35:48. | :35:50.
Broda is 30 and originally from Poland. | :35:51. | :35:52.
He has a tattoo of the words Scyzoryk | :35:53. | :35:56.
on his right arm, and links to York and Selby. | :35:57. | :35:59.
If you know where any of these faces are, make sure you get in touch | :36:00. | :36:02.
Back in 1987, the body of a young woman was found. | :36:03. | :36:08.
Five months later another young woman's body was discovered. | :36:09. | :36:14.
Both lived in bedsits in Tunbridge Wells, and both | :36:15. | :36:16.
Police thought a serial killer was on the loose | :36:17. | :36:22.
But 30 years on the killer has yet to be caught. | :36:23. | :36:35.
Why did he have to kill? She never upset anybody. Was it because she | :36:36. | :36:51.
knew him? There is always that question. Why did he have to kill? | :36:52. | :37:01.
At 12 o'clock, BBC Radio one Kent News. Police today issued a fresh | :37:02. | :37:04.
appeal for witnesses following the murder... | :37:05. | :37:09.
In the summer of 1987, the quiet town of Tunbridge Wells was rocked | :37:10. | :37:19.
by news of a horrific murder. 25-year-old Wendy Nel worked on a | :37:20. | :37:26.
shop in Tunbridge Wells. She lived in a house made up of nine small | :37:27. | :37:29.
bedsits. She was on the ground floor. Her window couldn't be locked | :37:30. | :37:34.
because the latch was painted over. Her room faced out onto the garden | :37:35. | :37:37.
and an alleyway at the back of the street. A prowler had recently been | :37:38. | :37:47.
seen in the area. She spent the evening of Monday the 22nd of June | :37:48. | :37:52.
at her boyfriend's house. He dropped back to her bedsit at 11:15pm. That | :37:53. | :37:57.
was the last time she was seen alive. Wendy was found the next | :37:58. | :38:01.
morning. She had been brutally attacked and murdered. I was driving | :38:02. | :38:10.
buses in Tunbridge. When I got back to the station, the inspector said | :38:11. | :38:15.
your wife is panicking, your daughter has not turned up for work. | :38:16. | :38:21.
I went to the bottom of the cul-de-sac where she lived. There | :38:22. | :38:28.
were some police cars and people outside of Wendy's flat. Two | :38:29. | :38:31.
policeman brought me home. They wouldn't let me drive my car. I went | :38:32. | :38:37.
in sobbing my heart out and said that our daughter was dead. | :38:38. | :38:48.
This was a huge investigation at the time for Kent police. Huge amounts | :38:49. | :38:54.
of resources put into it, large media appeals. A number of lines of | :38:55. | :38:59.
enquiry that were followed. But the case eventually went nowhere. The | :39:00. | :39:05.
investigation team turned to and a national appeal out. -- Crimewatch. | :39:06. | :39:19.
But as police were following leads from the Crimewatch appeal, reports | :39:20. | :39:21.
came through that another body had been found. A double murder hunt is | :39:22. | :39:26.
under way in Kent tonight following the discovery of a woman's body on | :39:27. | :39:32.
Romney Marsh. The body was found by a farm worker yesterday. Caroline | :39:33. | :39:37.
Pierce lived in a bedsit half a mile from Wendy. She worked on the same | :39:38. | :39:41.
street as Wendy, where she managed a restaurant. On the night of Tuesday | :39:42. | :39:46.
the 24th of November, Caroline had been out with her friends and | :39:47. | :39:50.
decided to take a cab home. It is the hazard the end. Shortly after, a | :39:51. | :39:57.
number of the residents heard screams. Caroline's body was found | :39:58. | :40:03.
in a ditch three weeks later. She had been brutally murdered. Kent | :40:04. | :40:08.
police threw everything at the cases. Think of the impact in that | :40:09. | :40:18.
community and that town at that time, two murders of women in | :40:19. | :40:23.
bedsits. This was a big investigation. Keys were missing | :40:24. | :40:26.
from both crime scenes. A suspicious car was spotted. And e-fit of a | :40:27. | :40:31.
prowler was released. The killer was never caught. But for 30 years the | :40:32. | :40:39.
police have refused to give up. These murder investigations are | :40:40. | :40:43.
never closed. The cold Case team has been actively reviewing and | :40:44. | :40:49.
investigating both of these murders. The biggest breakthrough came with | :40:50. | :40:55.
DNA testing. Despite having a DNA profile for the killer, there was no | :40:56. | :40:59.
match on the national DNA database. Through those modern DNA am a modern | :41:00. | :41:05.
forensic techniques, they identified a DNA profile from Wendy's murder. | :41:06. | :41:12.
Despite there being no match on the system, for the cold case team the | :41:13. | :41:17.
hunt for the killer of Wendy and Caroline continues. | :41:18. | :41:22.
Did somebody come home that night with blood on them? Did they dispose | :41:23. | :41:27.
of clothing? The change in behaviour, Ahmad just following | :41:28. | :41:29.
these cases and being more interested in them than you would | :41:30. | :41:34.
expect. Whoever committed these murders need to be expecting a call | :41:35. | :41:44.
and knock on their door at any time. Just before it happened I turned 50. | :41:45. | :41:50.
They all said to me, your life begins at 50. That happened and my | :41:51. | :41:54.
life finished. Because I knew it then. I have got quite a lot of | :41:55. | :42:02.
cancer and the specialist says they can't do any more for me. If I | :42:03. | :42:06.
wake-up every morning, it is a bonus. But I would really like | :42:07. | :42:12.
before the end comes to know who it was. You know? | :42:13. | :42:20.
So sad that Bill didn't live to see justice for his daughter. | :42:21. | :42:24.
If you can help catch whoever murdered Wendy | :42:25. | :42:26.
or Caroline, please do call - the lines are open now. | :42:27. | :42:28.
Or you can speak to Crimestoppers anonymously. | :42:29. | :42:31.
Time for a quick update. Yesterday officers from the Royal military | :42:32. | :42:50.
police appeal for help into the -- over the murder of Christine | :42:51. | :42:53.
Menzies. The senior officer says following a number of potential new | :42:54. | :42:57.
leads of great interest. Fingers crossed we get some answers on that | :42:58. | :42:58.
