We're on the road once again with police, | :00:00. | :00:07.
?175,000 worth of accordions stolen from a family business... | :00:08. | :00:17.
For them to come back a second, third, fourth time | :00:18. | :00:20.
The shocking rise in acid attacks. I am scarred for life, | :00:21. | :00:32.
I have to live with these scars every single day, from when I wake | :00:33. | :00:36.
Plus, I'll be seeing these dogs in action and finding out how | :00:37. | :00:40.
officers deploy them to take down criminals. | :00:41. | :00:42.
Hello and welcome to Crimewatch Roadshow - | :00:43. | :01:08.
as always, we need your help to solve the crimes | :01:09. | :01:10.
The part-time TV presenter, robbed at gunpoint | :01:11. | :01:16.
I've never been in that situation before. | :01:17. | :01:24.
15 years after a body was found on Exmoor, | :01:25. | :01:27.
can you help identify who he is and how he got there? | :01:28. | :01:36.
Today, we're in Sulhamstead, at Thames Valley Police's | :01:37. | :01:38.
Rav, I'm going to be seeing not only how they train officers to handle | :01:39. | :01:45.
tricky situations but also how they turn pups like this guy | :01:46. | :01:48.
Thanks Michelle. Look forward to that. | :01:49. | :01:53.
Now, to the accordion shop run by a father and son which has been | :01:54. | :01:57.
targeted again and again by burglars. | :01:58. | :02:06.
The accordion shop is a fifth generation family business run by | :02:07. | :02:13.
Bev and his son Chris. Their firm has been serving customers since | :02:14. | :02:20.
1927. My first memory of this was when my father was teaching the | :02:21. | :02:25.
accordion, in Streatham, in 47, I should think. The accordion shop has | :02:26. | :02:30.
been going for many years, it goes back to my great-grandfather. The | :02:31. | :02:37.
best part of working with dad, you can talk to him very easily and I | :02:38. | :02:42.
suppose he's my best friend, we get on very well together. These | :02:43. | :02:45.
accordions come in all shapes and sizes. There is the Chinese | :02:46. | :02:50.
accordion which are at the budget range. Then you've got the German | :02:51. | :02:55.
makers and the Italian makers. They are handbuilt and can take months if | :02:56. | :03:03.
not a year to build. And some of them are extremely valuable. And can | :03:04. | :03:07.
sell for more than ?10,000 each and that's made them a target for | :03:08. | :03:15.
thieves. On the 7th of August last year whilst Chris was away on | :03:16. | :03:19.
holiday and Bev. Dubbed in bed, thieves broke into the shop. I got a | :03:20. | :03:25.
telephone call from one of the staff to say could you come in, we've been | :03:26. | :03:32.
burgled. Being on holiday, to have that ruined with this break-in, was | :03:33. | :03:38.
quite upsetting. They took 40 accordions. Chris and his father opt | :03:39. | :03:46.
the security on the shop and it seemed to work. Then there was an | :03:47. | :03:50.
attempted break-in months later the alarm went off and nothing was | :03:51. | :03:54.
stolen. But as David after that attempt they were targeted for a | :03:55. | :03:59.
third time. They came back again and came through the back window which | :04:00. | :04:06.
we'd actually put further shutters on and further security protection | :04:07. | :04:09.
and they broke through that which obviously took us by surprise. This | :04:10. | :04:14.
time the thieves were caught on CCTV. They took five accordions | :04:15. | :04:22.
worth over ?20,000. Chris is convinced the thieves knew exactly | :04:23. | :04:27.
what they were after. The thieves were obviously targeting the | :04:28. | :04:30.
higher-priced Italian accordions and also the digital rolling accordions | :04:31. | :04:37.
as well. Again the family did all they could to protect themselves. | :04:38. | :04:42.
But for a fourth time they were struck. On the fourth raid and most | :04:43. | :04:49.
recent raid, despite splitting in extra security bars, they must have | :04:50. | :04:54.
taken about half an hour, three quarters of an hour to break through | :04:55. | :04:59.
these and gain entry through the skylight. In total 49 accordions | :05:00. | :05:03.
have been stolen. I think after the first attack, and we installed | :05:04. | :05:11.
further security, felt fairly secure but for them to come back a second, | :05:12. | :05:17.
third and fourth time after we've put in, after each break-in, more | :05:18. | :05:22.
and more security measures, that's the most frustrating part. The | :05:23. | :05:30.
offenders were captured on CCTV. We got a good image of those built | :05:31. | :05:34.
their bases are covered but what helps, we risk or -- recorded their | :05:35. | :05:38.
speech and they were speaking to each other in Romanian. | :05:39. | :05:43.
The impact of this crime not only financial but the time it takes to | :05:44. | :05:50.
recoup the stock in order to get business is up and running is highly | :05:51. | :05:57.
impacted. The family have lost in the region of ?175,000. It's the | :05:58. | :06:05.
family business and provides not only an income for my father and I | :06:06. | :06:10.
but also supports the other staff in the shop as well so it's not just us | :06:11. | :06:17.
are affected. We hope they won't come again, but there's a chance | :06:18. | :06:22.
they will. We've taken all the precautions I think we can the | :06:23. | :06:26.
moment. It might be a weekend, next week, a month or six months down the | :06:27. | :06:32.
line but they want to come again so, you've got to live with that. | :06:33. | :06:35.
With me now is Detective Inspector Jason Kew. | :06:36. | :06:37.
These seem to be quite organised crimes? | :06:38. | :06:41.
They do. There is clearly a team that go in during the day and I | :06:42. | :06:52.
believe they are at selecting certain accordions, the high ones, | :06:53. | :06:57.
certainly a team at night stop you have a fair bit of CCTV in this case | :06:58. | :07:01.
which is good. We've been really lucky, the shop owners have upgraded | :07:02. | :07:07.
the security system and part about was CCTV which contains audio | :07:08. | :07:09.
capability and we recorded the suspects during the Burghley talking | :07:10. | :07:15.
in Romanian and the name Stefan was clearly heard. A crucial piece of | :07:16. | :07:20.
evidence that giving you a bit of a leak? After the first burglary the | :07:21. | :07:25.
scenes of crime is found a receipt and we've traced back back to the | :07:26. | :07:30.
conference in Port Talbot. This evidence is allowing you to identify | :07:31. | :07:36.
someone you want to speak to. It was found at the point of entry at the | :07:37. | :07:40.
back of the shop for the public don't have access to. We have a good | :07:41. | :07:45.
image and we've traced it act to the purchase of cutting equipment which | :07:46. | :07:48.
we clearly believe that was used to gain entry into the shop and what | :07:49. | :07:51.
about potential witnesses, Ayew keen to speak to them? Definitely and | :07:52. | :07:57.
preclude them as well, with a link to the Romanian... The two in the | :07:58. | :08:03.
shop, but were caught on camera, we are asking inconsistent questions | :08:04. | :08:11.
about the high-value items and there's a woman not on the actual | :08:12. | :08:15.
footage and I am keen to proclaim them from the investigation. This | :08:16. | :08:19.
has had a real impact on Chris and Bev, we have an accordion here | :08:20. | :08:24.
similar to the ones that were stolen, they are beautiful | :08:25. | :08:26.
instruments and really heavy. This must have taken some time? | :08:27. | :08:30.
Fascinating instruments, during the first burglary 37 were taken in | :08:31. | :08:36.
total, that must have taken... Absolutely, about two hours to load | :08:37. | :08:40.
up a fan and also linking back through to Port Talbot, we are keen | :08:41. | :08:45.
to ask anyone if they remember or it triggers any recollection of people | :08:46. | :08:48.
loading these unique items into a van in Sunningdale during night-time | :08:49. | :08:52.
or at the other end in Port Talbot, with that link to the receipt. | :08:53. | :08:54.
Jason, thank you. If you've got any information that | :08:55. | :09:01.
may help please call now Now time to take at look today's | :09:02. | :09:03.
criminals caught on CCTV - It's early evening in February and | :09:04. | :09:20.
filed the homeowners are out there CCTV has picked up some unwanted | :09:21. | :09:24.
visitors. They take a good look around the kitchen and if you listen | :09:25. | :09:28.
carefully, it sounds like they are happy with what they find. | :09:29. | :09:35.
Some nice stuff. They escaped with three and a half thousand pounds | :09:36. | :09:41.
worth of sound and camera equipment. Who are these unwanted house guest? | :09:42. | :09:52.
Listen closely as this woman is about to receive an unexpected | :09:53. | :10:00.
visitor. The man insists there is a problem with her gas and she should | :10:01. | :10:05.
turn it off. Yes. Switch it off. Quickly. Infighting came in they | :10:06. | :10:13.
head to the back of the property. But for you don't see is this man | :10:14. | :10:17.
insisting he chequered bedroom for a gas fire. Moments later the man | :10:18. | :10:23.
makes his excuses saying he returned and walks out with her bag. Only a | :10:24. | :10:28.
few days later and he tries his luck again. On another victim. This time | :10:29. | :10:34.
round he's changed his routine and asked if he can borrow a pen. This | :10:35. | :10:41.
woman has been burgled before and gets suspicious. | :10:42. | :10:53.
He persists and tries changing tactics. | :10:54. | :11:19.
She's had enough and slams the door in his face. Can you help police | :11:20. | :11:26.
catch this shameless herder who preys on the elderly. You know what | :11:27. | :11:28.
to do. The number is 08000 468999 | :11:29. | :11:36.
and calls are free. Text CW, space and | :11:37. | :11:40.
then your message. Texts will be charged | :11:41. | :11:43.
at your standard message rate. Now this is a place | :11:44. | :11:45.
where they train officers Adam is one of the safety trainers, | :11:46. | :12:06.
personal safety trainers and in a minute I'm going to have a go at | :12:07. | :12:10.
hand cupping a suspect but let's see the professionals do it first, let's | :12:11. | :12:14.
get some tips. We have scarred and Liz, Liz is the subject and we will | :12:15. | :12:20.
show you a handcuff... Show me the palms of your hands, put your hands | :12:21. | :12:23.
on top of your head. Turnaround and face the wall. | :12:24. | :12:30.
Relax for me. OK. That was pretty smooth. I'm going to have a go | :12:31. | :12:42.
myself. Will you talk me through? Riches going to come in. He's been | :12:43. | :12:48.
compliant all the way through. First thing, we are going to see his | :12:49. | :12:53.
hands, could his hands on top of his head, turn him to face away from us. | :12:54. | :12:58.
Shall meet your hands, please. Put them on top of your head, turn | :12:59. | :13:04.
around and face the wall. Good, keep eyes on your subject, moving, secure | :13:05. | :13:09.
his hands, take out the cups from their patch. I guess this is when | :13:10. | :13:14.
you need to be pretty slick. OK. Place them against the side of the | :13:15. | :13:18.
wrist and apply, what we are going to do now, bring the arm forward and | :13:19. | :13:22.
around, the other harm around into the lower back and apply that second | :13:23. | :13:28.
handcuff. Nice. It's interesting doing it, you want to make sure the | :13:29. | :13:32.
suspect feels comfortable, you are not here to harm them. We want to | :13:33. | :13:36.
make sure they are not overly tight or they will slip of the wrist, make | :13:37. | :13:40.
sure there is no skin bunching around the wrist, make sure there is | :13:41. | :13:44.
a gap between the wrist and a cough and ask the person have a feel. How | :13:45. | :13:49.
are you feeling? Fine, thank you. That's not bad, I was pretty slow | :13:50. | :13:53.
and obviously rich as being very accommodating but I'm guessing there | :13:54. | :13:56.
are certain instances they might not use so accommodating? If the subject | :13:57. | :14:02.
is resisting the arrest, we have controlled behaviour first and | :14:03. | :14:05.
consider the person on the floor in a safe position to position the | :14:06. | :14:10.
handcuffs. Thank you for taking me through it, I think they need a bit | :14:11. | :14:15.
more practice, I was a bit slow so I am going to continue to finesse my | :14:16. | :14:19.
hand cupping skills and I will check in with you later. How do I get | :14:20. | :14:20.
these? Well, Michelle, not bad for a first | :14:21. | :14:26.
attempt! Our next case is one that's baffled | :14:27. | :14:29.
detectives for years. In March 2002 a man's body was found | :14:30. | :14:31.
on Exmoor wrapped in plastic bags. 15 years on and police | :14:32. | :14:35.
are still trying to identify who the victim is and why | :14:36. | :14:37.
he was killed. They're hoping today you can | :14:38. | :14:39.
help solve the mystery. Detective Sergeant Pete Frake | :14:40. | :14:42.
from Avon Somerset Police Pete, a baffling case, | :14:43. | :14:44.
but what can you tell us? In 2002, the body of a male was | :14:45. | :14:56.
found wrapped in bin liners and a duvet. And we have been unable to | :14:57. | :15:02.
identify him from that point. We can see some footage of the search going | :15:03. | :15:07.
on. This is Exmoor, it is a vast space, isn't it, it is massive? Yes, | :15:08. | :15:13.
it's huge. You can see the search going on. A lot of scientific work | :15:14. | :15:17.
was done back in 2002, cutting edge stuff. We have found out that this | :15:18. | :15:22.
mail did not live in this country until early 1990. We believe that he | :15:23. | :15:26.
entered this country when he was between 15 and 20 years of age. We | :15:27. | :15:33.
know that in 1999 to early 2000 is when he died. However, the body was | :15:34. | :15:39.
not recovered until 2002. That is a lot of information. It was cutting | :15:40. | :15:43.
edge, certainly for the time. You also have an image of what the | :15:44. | :15:48.
person may well have looked like. This was a computer-generated 3-D | :15:49. | :15:53.
image of what we believe this person could have looked like back in 2002. | :15:54. | :15:58.
Glasses, moustache, different her styles, just in order to try and get | :15:59. | :16:03.
family or friends to recognise this person. We also have a clay model. | :16:04. | :16:10.
Talk me through this? The clay model was made from the skeleton, done by | :16:11. | :16:17.
Glasgow University. Again, it is just the best way that we have in | :16:18. | :16:22.
order to try and get a family to recognise... Pictures are great, but | :16:23. | :16:27.
this is three-dimensional, it gives another element, so hopefully | :16:28. | :16:31.
somebody will recognise who it was. Also you have some jewellery that | :16:32. | :16:35.
you think is significant. This was found in the remains. It is a 22 | :16:36. | :16:39.
carat gold necklace, there is dependent on the end and then an | :16:40. | :16:46.
inscription on the pendant. We have an image of this. You believe it is | :16:47. | :16:57.
from the the Koran. We believe it was made in the local workshop in | :16:58. | :17:01.
Pakistan or Bangladesh. 22 carat gold. We have a couple more things | :17:02. | :17:06.
that we want to talk about. We have a duvet and a sheet. The name Dorma, | :17:07. | :17:12.
you know that? This is what he was wrapped in? He was wrapped in this, | :17:13. | :17:17.
and we have a pair of shorts that he was in at the time. You know that | :17:18. | :17:22.
they were made around 1995. That is when they were first brought up. All | :17:23. | :17:29.
of the clues, piece it together, we want to know who this person is. | :17:30. | :17:33.
Thank you very much. It really is a total mystery but let's hope | :17:34. | :17:37.
somebody out there has some information. Please get in touch on | :17:38. | :17:38.
the usual number. Now, in the UK we've recently | :17:39. | :17:41.
seen a terrible surge We went to meet one man still living | :17:42. | :17:43.
with the consequences. A 16-year-old boy has been jailed | :17:44. | :17:57.
for eight years for throwing acid in the face of a woman... There has | :17:58. | :18:04.
been an arrest in the case of a suspected unprovoked acid attack. | :18:05. | :18:09.
During the assault, he had sulphuric acid poured into his mouth. Why is | :18:10. | :18:14.
it that young men are choosing to act so violently? Why are they | :18:15. | :18:20.
choosing acid? Acid related violence is on the rise. In London alone, the | :18:21. | :18:30.
number of attacks increased from 261 in 2015 to 454 last year. That's | :18:31. | :18:37.
more than one per day. The use of acid has become the weapon of choice | :18:38. | :18:41.
for many young men. The increase in acid attacks is very alarming. We | :18:42. | :18:49.
now looking at numbers that exceed countries globally. -- exceed most | :18:50. | :18:56.
countries. Behind the numbers are real victim is living with the | :18:57. | :19:00.
consequences. Victims like Samir Hussein, who has been left scarred | :19:01. | :19:04.
for life after an unprovoked attack. He had spent the evening at his | :19:05. | :19:08.
local cinema with a friend. As they were leaving, they were both | :19:09. | :19:13.
assaulted. The attacker down through corrosive liquid in Samir's face. | :19:14. | :19:18.
The first thought that went through my head was, why me? I had done | :19:19. | :19:22.
nothing wrong. And then after that, the sensation... For example, if you | :19:23. | :19:27.
are cooking at home and you touch a four port or a pan, it does see your | :19:28. | :19:35.
skin. In this instance, it doesn't let go. It is attached to your skin | :19:36. | :19:41.
and it just doesn't stop. Two years on from his ordeal, and Samir is | :19:42. | :19:45.
still receiving vital treatment for the deep tissue burns to his face, | :19:46. | :19:50.
arms and neck. I didn't expect to be wearing a mask. And you just realise | :19:51. | :19:55.
how devastating corrosive substances can be now. Yeah, it has been two | :19:56. | :20:04.
years and I'm still suffering. Budget Deans are is the consultant | :20:05. | :20:09.
surgeon treating Samir's injuries. He has seen all too often the | :20:10. | :20:13.
terrible effect of acid burns. The kind of scarring that can occur with | :20:14. | :20:20.
acid injuries is quite deep and extensive. And it's very difficult | :20:21. | :20:25.
to necessarily treat because of the Splash nature of the injury in the | :20:26. | :20:31.
first place. People can be blinded. They can have scarring that affects | :20:32. | :20:37.
their movement. Their facial movement. And also, significantly | :20:38. | :20:42.
affect their appearance. It is an act of islands that has a lasting | :20:43. | :20:46.
effect on its victims. When a patient has scarring, it never goes | :20:47. | :20:51.
away -- it is an act of violence. We can do things to make it better, and | :20:52. | :20:56.
we can also support patients from a psychological perspective as well. | :20:57. | :21:02.
But the scars, both psychologically and physically, never go away after | :21:03. | :21:06.
this kind of injury. They flatter, but the, is still showing some | :21:07. | :21:12.
papers in them. The pigmentation is coming back, which was good so what | :21:13. | :21:17.
showing some pinkness. I am scarred for life, I have to live with the | :21:18. | :21:22.
scars every single day from when I wake up to when I go to sleep. In | :21:23. | :21:30.
April this year, Samir's attacker, Michael McPherson, was sentenced to | :21:31. | :21:34.
eight years in prison. A punishment Samir does not think his long | :21:35. | :21:38.
enough. With him having acid in his vehicle, he went out with the | :21:39. | :21:45.
intention to do -- destroy somebody's life. I think the | :21:46. | :21:49.
guidelines need to change. It is a view widely shared by those who work | :21:50. | :21:54.
to help the victims of such attacks. There are not sufficient controls | :21:55. | :21:57.
around the sale of acid. And there is no controls all offences relating | :21:58. | :22:04.
to carrying acid. Unlike if you were carrying a knife or a gun. One of | :22:05. | :22:09.
the things we've been urging Government to consider is limiting | :22:10. | :22:19.
the sales of acid to overrate teams, introducing a licensing system that | :22:20. | :22:24.
can only be purchased via the Home Office, and prevent cash sales -- | :22:25. | :22:28.
limiting the sales of acid to people over the age of 18. You can be | :22:29. | :22:32.
charged for carrying a gun or a knife, but you will not be charged | :22:33. | :22:34.
for carrying acid. We have an appeal to catch some | :22:35. | :22:47.
armed robbers who used acid to overcome their terrified victim in a | :22:48. | :22:49.
moment. OK, lots more to come this morning, | :22:50. | :22:49.
including the pensioner who had his wedding ring stolen | :22:50. | :22:52.
in a terrifying home invasion. crime even the smallest, | :22:53. | :22:56.
microscopic clues can make all the difference, | :22:57. | :23:07.
as my next guests know well. And these plants are | :23:08. | :23:10.
a clue to what they do. I'm joined by Professor Patricia | :23:11. | :23:12.
Wiltshire and Professor David Hawksworth, who have worked on some | :23:13. | :23:14.
of the most high-profile British Patricia, talk me through your area | :23:15. | :23:17.
of expertise and how Well, I'm a botanist and ecologist, | :23:18. | :23:29.
if you like. And the whole essence of our work is that all organisms, | :23:30. | :23:33.
these plants, you will find them in the place that they grow best. And | :23:34. | :23:39.
they will have... They will be in a community of other organisms that | :23:40. | :23:43.
are in the same place. And if you have trace evidence from them, you | :23:44. | :23:49.
can build up and envisage what that community is like and therefore the | :23:50. | :23:55.
places that they occur. Now, some plants, and we are talking about | :23:56. | :24:00.
pollen and spores as trace evidence, some plants are wind pollinated and | :24:01. | :24:04.
de Paula gets all over the place. This would give as hay fever, for | :24:05. | :24:08.
example. Like this grass, very exposed. Other plants, though... | :24:09. | :24:15.
This is an example of a plant, what is the difference with that pollen? | :24:16. | :24:21.
This has colour and perfume and the insect has to crawl right down | :24:22. | :24:25.
inside to get the pollen and then it goes off to another plant. But of | :24:26. | :24:29.
course, the pollen does not get into the air. The significance of this, | :24:30. | :24:34.
if we took this in a crime situation, if somebody ran through a | :24:35. | :24:37.
load of these plants, if it is not going to be all over the place, | :24:38. | :24:42.
could it get onto their clothes? Yes, the community will. And we have | :24:43. | :24:46.
a profile, you see? You can envisage what the places like and where they | :24:47. | :24:50.
have been. What of the person realises that and washes their | :24:51. | :24:54.
clothes. It is very difficult to get off, you cannot just brush it off. | :24:55. | :25:01.
The spores go down into the fabric. That is fantastic, what a great | :25:02. | :25:04.
tool. David, you can go one step further because you look at the | :25:05. | :25:07.
fungus as well. How on earth can fungus be used to solve a case? | :25:08. | :25:11.
Well, they are more information to the data. For example... Can we hold | :25:12. | :25:20.
that one nice and still, David. This one, the centre has gone dark brown, | :25:21. | :25:25.
which is due to the fungus. So the spores of the fungus can indicate | :25:26. | :25:28.
that the plant has been in that place. And if a person has been | :25:29. | :25:34.
through particular area, they have been in contact with this plant. | :25:35. | :25:40.
Which is identifiable. That's unbelievable. It adds an extra | :25:41. | :25:46.
dimension. And also, we have got a branch here. Say if somebody has run | :25:47. | :25:52.
through away from the scene of a crime, run through some woodland, | :25:53. | :25:55.
you can tell if something has been disturbed by the way the fungus has | :25:56. | :26:02.
grown. This one for example on the birch... If it is on the ground or | :26:03. | :26:09.
at different angle, that has obviously been disturbed. If | :26:10. | :26:11.
somebody has tried to bury something. You can tell by the size | :26:12. | :26:18.
of the fungus or roughly how long it has been growing in that position? | :26:19. | :26:23.
In some cases you can. For example, this orange and yellow lichen here, | :26:24. | :26:28.
if that has been turned over, for example, we know it takes about five | :26:29. | :26:32.
days for it to change colour. That is fascinating. And also it only | :26:33. | :26:36.
grows on the other side of the twigs. It is all very well as | :26:37. | :26:40.
talking about it, but we have to say that you have both done it and used | :26:41. | :26:45.
your evidence in court in high-profile cases? Many, many | :26:46. | :26:48.
times. So often people say, I was never there. But when we analyse | :26:49. | :26:53.
their clothes, we can say, yes, you have. That is fascinating, thank you | :26:54. | :26:57.
so much for joining us. For now, let's might go back to Michelle. | :26:58. | :27:01.
Earlier, we saw the devastating impact of the rise in acid attacks. | :27:02. | :27:04.
Now police need your help to identify the men who used | :27:05. | :27:06.
corrosive liquid as a weapon in an armed robbery. | :27:07. | :27:13.
28-year-old Christopher has lived in East London most of his life. I | :27:14. | :27:19.
really love football. I'm a West Ham fan. I often go and watch the games. | :27:20. | :27:25.
If I'm not watching it live on TV, and watching it. Also I'm | :27:26. | :27:30.
motivational speaker. I've got a TV show, it is a Christian TV where we | :27:31. | :27:36.
talk about just like promoting a good life and encouraging young | :27:37. | :27:39.
people, getting into like having the right mindset and being hopeful | :27:40. | :27:44.
about the future. In March this year, Christopher went out for a | :27:45. | :27:48.
friend's birthday in Elephant and Castle. At the end of the night we | :27:49. | :27:51.
were just about to drive home, but the people that I was with, they | :27:52. | :27:55.
were like, oh, they were feeling hungry, they wanted to get some | :27:56. | :28:00.
food. As they pulled up to a road in south-east London, Christopher | :28:01. | :28:04.
waited in the car whilst his friends went to get food. I was on the phone | :28:05. | :28:08.
talking to my friend. I heard a knock, I looked, and they said, | :28:09. | :28:16.
we've been told that you are... I'm like, no, I'm not. Christopher | :28:17. | :28:19.
Stoltz and feeling increasingly anxious. His face was kind of | :28:20. | :28:28.
covered up. I thought... These guys could be any guys, really. They | :28:29. | :28:32.
could be into gangs. I thought, maybe this is not the right place to | :28:33. | :28:36.
be. Then they tried to like start the car and just drive. I think they | :28:37. | :28:41.
read my mind, and quickly they just came back, pulled out a gun, it so | :28:42. | :28:48.
quickly. It was really terrifying just to see somebody pointing a gun. | :28:49. | :28:54.
The next thing I knew, the guy just went for my watch, grabbed it and it | :28:55. | :28:58.
just came off my wrist. But the attack didn't hand than. One of the | :28:59. | :29:02.
guys behind pulled out a water bottle. He just flicked some liquid | :29:03. | :29:11.
into my face. The attackers disappeared into the light, leaving | :29:12. | :29:16.
Christopher deeply distressed and in need of urgent medical attention. -- | :29:17. | :29:20.
into the night. Christopher had become the latest victim of an acid | :29:21. | :29:24.
attack. I had my eyelashes coming off and I was really burning. My | :29:25. | :29:28.
tongue was burnt, my lips were burned, I was in excruciating pain. | :29:29. | :29:35.
It was a horrible attack. I met Chris in hospital, it was a nasty | :29:36. | :29:46.
robbery, he had nasty injuries as a result, it's a disproportionate use | :29:47. | :29:49.
of violence and force for what actually happened. The doctor told | :29:50. | :29:55.
me I could potentially lose my eyesight. It was extremely | :29:56. | :30:04.
terrifying... I've never really been into that situation before. | :30:05. | :30:11.
Thankfully it turned out to be that it wasn't really as worse as it | :30:12. | :30:15.
could have been so for that I'm just grateful. Although Christopher fully | :30:16. | :30:22.
regained his eyesight detectives are keen to find his attackers as next | :30:23. | :30:26.
time, their victim may not be so lucky. It's really important we | :30:27. | :30:34.
catch up with these guys. This is a serious robbery, a | :30:35. | :30:36.
disproportionately full of violence was used, if people are willing to | :30:37. | :30:41.
carry guns, willing to carry bottles of acid and through them and use | :30:42. | :30:45.
them on people, it's obviously a danger which is why we want to | :30:46. | :30:49.
apprehend these people as soon as possible. This attack is just | :30:50. | :30:54.
horrifying. With me now is Detective | :30:55. | :30:56.
Constable Matt Griffiths. You have been looking into this | :30:57. | :31:00.
case. Christopher has made a good | :31:01. | :31:02.
recovery since that attack. What can you tell us | :31:03. | :31:05.
about these suspects? We know there were three suspects, | :31:06. | :31:20.
black males, in their 20s, the first man, Chris described as being the | :31:21. | :31:24.
main guy, large build, with a beard, wearing grey tracksuit bottoms, | :31:25. | :31:29.
dark-coloured jacket and a light-coloured Deeney hit, the man | :31:30. | :31:33.
Chris described as pointing a gun at him and he was the one who dragged | :31:34. | :31:37.
Chris out of the car. The second man, slim build with a distinct | :31:38. | :31:42.
stepped haircut, wearing a burgundy tracksuit top and bottom is, the man | :31:43. | :31:47.
Chris said splashed the liquid in his face. The third man, slim build, | :31:48. | :31:51.
with a beard, wearing tracksuit bottoms, a blue jacket and a beanie | :31:52. | :31:58.
hat. You are very keen to speak to anyone who may have seen these men | :31:59. | :32:02.
in the area. Absolutely. We know before the attack the three men | :32:03. | :32:08.
walked up Browning Street and turned left into Walworth Road, Chris was | :32:09. | :32:12.
parked in his car about 60 metres from the junction outside Paddy | :32:13. | :32:17.
Power and we are keen to hear anyone who can identify these men. You | :32:18. | :32:19.
concerned about the level of violence used for essentially the | :32:20. | :32:25.
theft of a watch, it was a sinister attack? Absolutely, the violence | :32:26. | :32:29.
used was disproportionate to what was achieved. As well having a gun | :32:30. | :32:35.
pointed at him Chris sustained injuries to his eyes from the liquid | :32:36. | :32:39.
splashed on his face, he was able to describe the bottle used, much like | :32:40. | :32:42.
this, he essentially said it was a clear plastic drinking water bottle, | :32:43. | :32:49.
containing a colourless liquid, obviously the danger of things like | :32:50. | :32:52.
this being carried it's difficult to distinguish between what is an | :32:53. | :32:55.
innocent looking water bottle and a potentially serious weapon. Thank | :32:56. | :32:57.
you so much for joining us. If you know who they are, | :32:58. | :33:01.
you know what to do. Next, an elderly man, alone at home, | :33:02. | :33:07.
who had his wedding ring stolen by men claiming to be | :33:08. | :33:10.
from the police. This 82-year-old man, VJ, has lived | :33:11. | :33:23.
in Bletchley with his family for the past 30 years. My wife, my two | :33:24. | :33:31.
children, a daughter and son, they have grown up, my wife, my better | :33:32. | :33:37.
half, is still with me. There's one other member of the household. The | :33:38. | :33:44.
dogs name is Oscar. I've had him for nearly nine years now. He's been a | :33:45. | :33:47.
great companion. Last April with his family all out | :33:48. | :33:58.
VJ was alone at home watching television. Around 8pm a noise | :33:59. | :34:08.
outside alerted Oscar. The dog started barking so I came down and | :34:09. | :34:15.
went to the front door. I saw nobody there. So I came back into the | :34:16. | :34:18.
lounge. Then without warning, three men | :34:19. | :34:32.
burst into the house. They tried to convince him they were police | :34:33. | :34:36.
officers. BJ wasn't having any of it. They said that Iraq is it, show | :34:37. | :34:43.
me some ID, he said, I am the police. BJ went to the phone to call | :34:44. | :34:50.
for help. He took the phone, the other two went upstairs. And while | :34:51. | :34:56.
two of the gang ransacked the bedrooms upstairs the third was | :34:57. | :34:58.
threatening the 82-year-old pensioner. He had a screwdriver... | :34:59. | :35:09.
The masked man ripped a necklace from BJ's neck before turning his | :35:10. | :35:13.
attention to his wedding band. Take it off and give it to me. He put it | :35:14. | :35:19.
in his pocket. The rest of the gang then came back down. One of them | :35:20. | :35:28.
asked me where is the gold? Tell me otherwise I am going to kill you. I | :35:29. | :35:33.
said, there is no gold. One said, I am going to tie you up and take you | :35:34. | :35:39.
with me. Fortunately these were empty threats and the gang | :35:40. | :35:44.
eventually fled taking with them around ?15,000 worth of jewellery | :35:45. | :35:47.
and valuables. Mostly family heirlooms. The thing is of | :35:48. | :35:53.
sentimental value, you can't put a price on those things. People, | :35:54. | :35:58.
things which have even handed down by your mother, father, | :35:59. | :36:04.
grandfather... And in the hunt for valuables they turned the house | :36:05. | :36:07.
over. Two boys ransacked the place, broke the bed. The place was an | :36:08. | :36:15.
utter shambles. It was a very distressing incident for the gentle | :36:16. | :36:20.
man. The men did threaten him, they also took a large amount of | :36:21. | :36:22.
jewellery with great sentimental value to the family and before they | :36:23. | :36:29.
left, after 20 minutes, they also sprayed household detergent on his | :36:30. | :36:33.
hands which we believe was an attempt to remove forensic evidence. | :36:34. | :36:37.
The gentle man found it very upsetting as I think everyone would, | :36:38. | :36:41.
being confronted in your own home, was particularly concerning. Because | :36:42. | :36:46.
the victim was 82 years old he did feel particularly vulnerable and not | :36:47. | :36:51.
able to defend himself which is why this was particularly distressing | :36:52. | :36:56.
for him. VJ is still coming to terms with what happened that night. I | :36:57. | :37:02.
keep thinking about what happened, I am thankful I am not physically | :37:03. | :37:07.
injured, mentally scarred, I don't know when I will get over it, I | :37:08. | :37:13.
really don't know. Poor VJ. This has really shaken him up. | :37:14. | :37:16.
With me now is is Detective Inspector Mark Lacey. | :37:17. | :37:18.
What do we know about these suspects? | :37:19. | :37:23.
They were three white males, the first aged in his early 30s about | :37:24. | :37:28.
five feet tall, his face covered with a Burberry style scarred. The | :37:29. | :37:33.
others were 20 years old, about six feet of slim build, dressed in black | :37:34. | :37:37.
including black baseball cap Sunday may have been brothers. You have any | :37:38. | :37:43.
fit of one of the men? One of the younger then, his face wasn't | :37:44. | :37:47.
covered, you would like the public's help in identifying. What was taken. | :37:48. | :37:52.
They were looking for jewellery and made off with around ?15,000 worth | :37:53. | :37:57.
of gold jewellery including items of sentimental value. This case is | :37:58. | :38:02.
quite unusual, they sprayed VJ scans with kitchen cleaner. We think it | :38:03. | :38:06.
was an attempt to avoid leaving forensic evidence but it's unusual | :38:07. | :38:09.
to spray it on the victim. Mark, thank you. | :38:10. | :38:14.
If you have any information, we're waiting for your call. | :38:15. | :38:16.
Now it's time for a look at today's Wanted Faces. | :38:17. | :38:20.
First up is this man - James Kelsey-Lewis. | :38:21. | :38:22.
He was due to appear in court in London in connection with charges | :38:23. | :38:25.
of assaulting a police officer, possession of a bladed article | :38:26. | :38:28.
as well as racially aggravated public order driving offences. | :38:29. | :38:30.
He failed to turn up, though, and a warrant has been | :38:31. | :38:33.
Lewis is 35 and described as dangerous, so just dial 999 | :38:34. | :38:36.
Next is Roger Bossio - although he uses many different | :38:37. | :38:48.
surnames, including Bosin, Ngahh, Bossion and Junior. | :38:49. | :38:49.
He was arrested in connection with a number of robberies | :38:50. | :38:52.
and petrol station drive-off offences, but after being released | :38:53. | :38:54.
on police bail, he's failed to return for further questioning. | :38:55. | :38:56.
Bossio is 20 years old and has links to London and Manchester. | :38:57. | :39:06.
This is Christopher Nimbley, although you may know him | :39:07. | :39:08.
Detectives in Lancashire would like to speak to him | :39:09. | :39:11.
about a drug-dealing operation in Blackpool and the rape | :39:12. | :39:14.
The 36-year-old has friends and family in Liverpool, Manchester, | :39:15. | :39:19.
Blackpool and London, and speaks with a | :39:20. | :39:21.
The 25-year-old was convicted of being part of a drug-dealing gang | :39:22. | :39:34.
that sold Class A drugs across Scarborough, but he didn't | :39:35. | :39:37.
He's six-foot-one and has friends and family | :39:38. | :39:40.
across Greater Manchester, in particular the Failsworth, | :39:41. | :39:42.
He's described as dangerous, so if you know where | :39:43. | :39:45.
If you know where any of these faces are, make sure you get in touch | :39:46. | :39:50.
I'm in a ditch and I'm with Dave who was the puppy development officer | :39:51. | :40:05.
for Hampshire and Thames Valley Police. Why are we in a ditch? Good | :40:06. | :40:10.
question, we are setting up a training exercise for one of our | :40:11. | :40:13.
young dose, this 11-month-old dog is part of the puppy development | :40:14. | :40:17.
programme, we will teach some exercises and she will use her nose | :40:18. | :40:22.
to trace us back. Hopefully she will find us. Hopefully she will and come | :40:23. | :40:28.
and give us a bark. We'll be crouched down? Toggles through how | :40:29. | :40:34.
this will work. The handler will let the dog knows she has to come out, | :40:35. | :40:37.
hopefully when she gets here she will locate us, we will get to bark | :40:38. | :40:41.
for the Bob and reward her. That was quick. As you say, she's barking to | :40:42. | :40:48.
alert... There you go. She's barking to alert the handler that she has | :40:49. | :40:52.
found us. Yes, the idea is that the handler knows there is something of | :40:53. | :40:57.
interest in this pitch so eventually, because she's a puppy we | :40:58. | :41:01.
give her a reward straightaway and we use a clicker to mark that she's | :41:02. | :41:05.
done the right job, she gets a reward, she goes back to the | :41:06. | :41:08.
handler. That's progression to Hershey is going to get to. That is | :41:09. | :41:12.
impressive, she came over quickly, how long does it take to train dogs? | :41:13. | :41:17.
We work from the pubs from eight weeks old, we get them in as | :41:18. | :41:21.
poppies, we work on them continuously, week by week until | :41:22. | :41:26.
they are about 12-18 months old. Either certain breeds that take to | :41:27. | :41:29.
training more than others? We are not breed specific, we want dogs | :41:30. | :41:34.
that are energetic, enthusiastic, confident, social so we look at all | :41:35. | :41:39.
types of breeds but dominantly we use German shepherds and Dutch | :41:40. | :41:45.
shepherds as well like I said, we look for those characteristics more | :41:46. | :41:50.
than the breed. It must be a really rewarding dog -- job. It is, you get | :41:51. | :41:54.
to see these baby puppies and you get to see them grow into | :41:55. | :41:57.
operational dogs on the streets, and they live with families at the start | :41:58. | :42:01.
and they stay with their family for 12 months, it's a big wrench for | :42:02. | :42:06.
people to part with them. It's great to see and as you can see, really | :42:07. | :42:11.
valuable asset to the police force, we just need to find a way of | :42:12. | :42:17.
getting out of here. That's right! Well done. Good luck getting out of | :42:18. | :42:18.
that pitch. Good work from those mutts. | :42:19. | :42:22.
Time now for a look at what's been coming in on the calls, | :42:23. | :42:32.
texts and emails. Dougie was making his way home crowd | :42:33. | :42:41.
tableau NSX, threatened him in a lift, stole his food. You named this | :42:42. | :42:47.
man Terry McBride as the suspect and he was later arrested and charged, | :42:48. | :42:51.
yesterday sentenced to two years in prison for the robbery. A great | :42:52. | :42:56.
result and some justice for Dougie. It shows that your calls make a | :42:57. | :42:57.
difference. Right, Michelle, where | :42:58. | :43:00.
will you be tomorrow? Rav, I'll be right in the heart | :43:01. | :43:01.
of the City of London, at the amazing Guildhall. | :43:02. | :43:04.
And just to prove that your calls really do make a difference, | :43:05. | :43:07.
we'll be hearing the incredible story of how your information led | :43:08. | :43:09.
to the conviction of two I think in the meantime I am going | :43:10. | :43:12.
