Today we are at Guildhall Yard, and will be having a get-together. It's | :00:00. | :00:17.
been a terrible few weeks in Manchester and London so on the | :00:18. | :00:23.
anniversary of MP Jo Cox's death, we're bringing the emergency | :00:24. | :00:26.
services together with the community who have done so much to help. | :00:27. | :00:31.
Thousands of pounds raised for charity stolen | :00:32. | :00:33.
It dawned that maybe the person who'd | :00:34. | :00:40.
brushed against me, maybe she had stolen it. | :00:41. | :00:42.
And how your calls to this programme landed two vicious | :00:43. | :00:44.
we started to have names coming through. | :00:45. | :00:50.
Hello and welcome to Crimewatch Roadshow. | :00:51. | :01:14.
As always, we need your help to solve the crimes | :01:15. | :01:17.
The depraved bus passenger assaulting woman across the capital. | :01:18. | :01:28.
I couldn't stop shaking, even when I left the bus. | :01:29. | :01:30.
And the hero cops putting their lives on the line | :01:31. | :01:37.
That's why I joined the job, to help people. | :01:38. | :01:42.
Today we're coming live from Guildhall Yard, | :01:43. | :01:44.
Rav, it's been a hard few weeks for Londoners, | :01:45. | :01:55.
but today I'm going to be with some of the people who've stood together | :01:56. | :01:58.
They've shown strength and resilience and today we're | :01:59. | :02:02.
having a bit of a get together to celebrate all that's | :02:03. | :02:05.
wonderful about this great city and its people. | :02:06. | :02:08.
It's certainly a time to come together. | :02:09. | :02:12.
But before that we have our first appeal of the day. | :02:13. | :02:15.
The hunt for a light fingered pickpocket who took thousands | :02:16. | :02:17.
The Southwick Christian Community Church is a vibrant part of life in | :02:18. | :02:36.
this village. The Reverend Linda is a much loved leader of the | :02:37. | :02:40.
congregation. As a church in a small community, we do a lot in the local | :02:41. | :02:45.
area with not just spiritual activities but education and | :02:46. | :02:50.
recreation. It's difficult work sometimes but I really enjoy it. | :02:51. | :02:55.
Linda is also the director of a charity which supports aid efforts | :02:56. | :02:59.
in Zimbabwe. I've been over there many times over the years, teaching | :03:00. | :03:06.
and encouraging. And so we then form a charity. We have sought to raise | :03:07. | :03:13.
funds to support the work out there. I think for me, probably over the | :03:14. | :03:17.
years of going there, particularly with the people I've met there, got | :03:18. | :03:22.
to know them, they have become like an extended family and in a time | :03:23. | :03:25.
when the country's going through terrible hardship and crisis, I feel | :03:26. | :03:31.
the pain of that. We do what we can to support their work so their lives | :03:32. | :03:37.
are just little bit better. Linda and her fundraising team managed to | :03:38. | :03:42.
raise over ?7,000 for a project growing maize in a specially to | :03:43. | :03:46.
school. But sadly that money never made it to Zimbabwe. In order to get | :03:47. | :03:53.
the money to the charity, it first had to be changed from pounds into | :03:54. | :04:02.
dollars, the currency used in Zimbabwe so Linda took the money to | :04:03. | :04:05.
her local supermarket to make the exchange. Normally we do bank to | :04:06. | :04:09.
bank transfers but that wasn't possible because the banking system | :04:10. | :04:14.
in Zimbabwe has collapsed. I went to Sainsbury's in West Hove, about 3pm, | :04:15. | :04:19.
to pick up the money I'd ordered online and pay for it. She exchanged | :04:20. | :04:30.
?7,000 for $9,000. I had my handbag, and I had a white carrier bag with | :04:31. | :04:34.
me, I didn't shopping in. And I thought, that's the place to put it. | :04:35. | :04:39.
I had a conscious thought, I'll put it in there because it would look | :04:40. | :04:42.
conspicuous, no one will think that you got money in your carrier bag. | :04:43. | :04:46.
She made her way to the exit, the money in her bag. A fairly youngish | :04:47. | :04:53.
woman brushed against me, and I didn't think anything of it. | :04:54. | :04:58.
Thinking the money was safe in her bag, she headed home. I had a cup of | :04:59. | :05:03.
tea, as you do, check my e-mails, and a little while later, I thought, | :05:04. | :05:08.
I must get that money out now. When I went to my carrier bag... | :05:09. | :05:15.
It must be somewhere, it must be in my car or it must be on the floor. | :05:16. | :05:22.
And it really didn't dawn on me till about ten minutes later then, the | :05:23. | :05:27.
person who brushed against me, maybe she had stolen it. She was right. | :05:28. | :05:34.
CCTV shows Linda being targeted as she left the store. Without her even | :05:35. | :05:39.
noticing. Almost all of the charity money had been stolen from her bag. | :05:40. | :05:45.
We do have people who are opportunistic thieves, there are | :05:46. | :05:48.
people out there who see this as their jobs. They are career thieves | :05:49. | :05:51.
and they will do this professionally. In particular, we | :05:52. | :05:58.
want to identify the lady in the hat that was seen with her hand in the | :05:59. | :06:03.
Reverend's bag. We suspect that the lady with the dark air is an | :06:04. | :06:08.
accomplice. However she could potentially be a witness. She was | :06:09. | :06:13.
seen to enter the shop at a similar time to the main suspect and also | :06:14. | :06:20.
lead in company with her. For Linda and her community fundraisers, | :06:21. | :06:24.
losing money destined for money in Africa has been heartbreaking. All | :06:25. | :06:26.
thoughts of things go through your mind. And particularly hindsight and | :06:27. | :06:34.
regret, how could you have been so stupid? And also, your own sense of | :06:35. | :06:40.
guilt and shame of it, and having to admit it to other people. Those are | :06:41. | :06:44.
all difficult emotions to cope with. I think it would be really great if | :06:45. | :06:48.
we could identify the person responsible in this instance, and | :06:49. | :06:53.
bring them to justice, to provide some closure for the community. And | :06:54. | :06:58.
I think one of the most difficult things was the real sense of | :06:59. | :07:01.
injustice and sadness about it all. With me now is Inspector Steve Hill | :07:02. | :07:03.
from Sussex Police. Now, there is good CCTV | :07:04. | :07:09.
of the person responsible for this? Yes, there is CCTV of a woman | :07:10. | :07:13.
entering the Sainsbury's in West Hove and later we can see | :07:14. | :07:18.
she has her hand in the reverend's And there's another woman you are | :07:19. | :07:29.
keen to speak to that you have identified? Yes, the lady standing | :07:30. | :07:35.
behind her when she did this come up with the dark air, we're confident | :07:36. | :07:42.
from reviewing the CCTV that these two are working together and they | :07:43. | :07:45.
have gone to the store to target somebody for a theft. This was a | :07:46. | :07:48.
substantial amount of money intended for a good cause. It was, it was | :07:49. | :07:53.
?7,500 raised through various fundraising efforts and donations, | :07:54. | :07:57.
Linda had gone to change it into US dollars to take to the charity | :07:58. | :08:01.
mission in Zimbabwe. Thankfully, there are some good news, the | :08:02. | :08:04.
community in Zimbabwe actually got the money destined for them? They | :08:05. | :08:09.
did, but that was only thanks to the generosity of the public. When we | :08:10. | :08:13.
initially released the images and the footage to the media, that was | :08:14. | :08:17.
picked up on, donations came in and we have added some money to that | :08:18. | :08:22.
from the police property fund. It in no way detracts from the outrageous | :08:23. | :08:26.
nature of this theft and its likely these people would go on to commit | :08:27. | :08:29.
it again. It's been sad for Linda, thank you so much. | :08:30. | :08:31.
If you can name either of those two women, we'd love to hear from you. | :08:32. | :08:36.
Get in touch using the numbers on screen. | :08:37. | :08:38.
More incidents caught on camera now in today's CCTV round-up. | :08:39. | :08:41.
And just so you know, the first one is pretty nasty. | :08:42. | :08:52.
It's a Saturday night, and these lads are outside waiting. One of the | :08:53. | :08:59.
group breaks away and heads towards smoking area. He has no idea what's | :09:00. | :09:08.
about to happen. The attacker runs off, having knocked the victim out | :09:09. | :09:12.
cold, leaving him with a fractured jaw. The victim couldn't work for | :09:13. | :09:17.
six weeks in the run-up to Christmas. Police needs to find the | :09:18. | :09:21.
man responsible. You know what to do. | :09:22. | :09:26.
This one isn't subtle, as you can see. A rail depot in central London | :09:27. | :09:35.
and this man is using a novel way to get inside. After struggling with a | :09:36. | :09:42.
hammer, he resorts to brute force and uses a sledgehammer instead. | :09:43. | :09:49.
Once he is in, he wreaks havoc, and causes extensive damage to the | :09:50. | :09:55.
toilets, doors and appliances. But he's not finished yet. Next he | :09:56. | :09:59.
climbed over the roof to another compound. Here he breaks into one of | :10:00. | :10:04.
the vans. I'm not sure if he's passed his driving test, though. | :10:05. | :10:05.
Watch as he tries to get out. He eventually smashes through the | :10:06. | :10:16.
gates, before continuing his wrecking spree and ramming another | :10:17. | :10:22.
set of gates. It might seem comical, but more than ?30,000 worth of | :10:23. | :10:26.
damage was caused. Who is this hapless vandal? Someone must | :10:27. | :10:28.
recognise him. If you know the name | :10:29. | :10:34.
of anyone you've just seen, We're ready to take | :10:35. | :10:36.
your calls right now. Text CW, space and | :10:37. | :10:42.
then your message. Texts will be charged | :10:43. | :10:46.
at your standard message rate. As you can see we're having a bit | :10:47. | :10:52.
of a get together here today This weekend, up and down | :10:53. | :11:01.
the country, people are having picnics and barbeques | :11:02. | :11:05.
and garden parties. With me to explain why is the MP | :11:06. | :11:08.
for Lewisham, Vicky Foxcroft. It was a year ago today that your | :11:09. | :11:25.
friend and colleague Jo Cox was sadly murdered. Just explain to me | :11:26. | :11:29.
the importance of this campaign. What we want to make sure that we do | :11:30. | :11:38.
is celebrate her life. Southwick -- Jo was a lovely bubbly person who | :11:39. | :11:41.
really wanted to bring people together. As she said in her maiden | :11:42. | :11:45.
speech in Parliament, we have got more in common than that which | :11:46. | :11:50.
divide us. It's very much about celebrating Jo's life rather than | :11:51. | :11:54.
focusing on her death. It's such a positive message. What kind of | :11:55. | :11:59.
things are happening? It's a positive message that all of her | :12:00. | :12:02.
family and friends have wanted to promote. One of the things that we | :12:03. | :12:06.
are doing locally in Deptford and the whole of Lewisham is having a | :12:07. | :12:12.
float your boat party, people can come along and build their own | :12:13. | :12:16.
boats, and they will float them in the river in Lewisham and that | :12:17. | :12:20.
floats into the Thames. The Thames is really important and that's where | :12:21. | :12:24.
Jo went and lived with her family, on a boat on the Thames. Now more | :12:25. | :12:29.
than ever. With everything that's happening with the London terror | :12:30. | :12:32.
attacks and the attack in Manchester, it's so important for us | :12:33. | :12:36.
to be all coming together. And as you said, not be divided. That's | :12:37. | :12:41.
exactly what all of these events, there is something like 1000 events | :12:42. | :12:47.
across the country organised, and it's about celebrating everything | :12:48. | :12:49.
that brings us together and not allowing terrorists attacks or | :12:50. | :12:55.
anything to divide our communities. It's reinforcing that message, the | :12:56. | :13:00.
sense of community spirit, cohesion, that's what everyone here is doing. | :13:01. | :13:06.
Everyone here is a part of that. In Lewisham, in my constituency, we | :13:07. | :13:09.
love to celebrate the sense of community and across the country we | :13:10. | :13:12.
do, and it important that people come together and do that in | :13:13. | :13:17.
whatever way they do it, be it a street party, or floating your boat | :13:18. | :13:21.
down the Thames, or a disco, but managing to bring us all together to | :13:22. | :13:26.
celebrate everything that unites our communities. Thank you so much for | :13:27. | :13:30.
joining us. You will stick around for the whole of the programme. We | :13:31. | :13:33.
will be speaking to more of these people gathered around here later | :13:34. | :13:34.
on. Every day we appeal for your | :13:35. | :13:36.
help to solve cases and in our very first programme of last year's | :13:37. | :13:39.
series we asked you to name the brutal gunmen who posed | :13:40. | :13:42.
as delivery men to get Well, I'm delighted to say | :13:43. | :13:44.
the information you gave helped If come in with a hammer, and a | :13:45. | :13:49.
knife, I think. Joanne and her husband Steve had | :13:50. | :14:18.
been happily married for 23 years. They lived in Feltham, West London, | :14:19. | :14:24.
with their two children. And for Joanne, home and family whatever | :14:25. | :14:28.
thing. Just a lovely woman. She's always been a housewife since she's | :14:29. | :14:35.
been with me. All of my children, best twice in the world. In April | :14:36. | :14:42.
last year, Joanne was home alone. I went to the front window, peep | :14:43. | :14:49.
through, and I saw a man in a yellow hi vision test and I called out, who | :14:50. | :14:55.
is it? He said, the livery. I stopped for a minute and then he | :14:56. | :14:57.
knocked again. I opened the door, and his foot went | :14:58. | :15:03.
in. Big mistake. Once in the house, the men pushed | :15:04. | :15:22.
John ran to the floor. My head is being taped, tape around my mouth, | :15:23. | :15:26.
my hands. The first one put his hand around my neck and started to | :15:27. | :15:32.
strangle me. And then as the second man went up the steps, I saw the | :15:33. | :15:39.
hammer in his hand. He kicked me on the head. He hit me again on the | :15:40. | :15:46.
other side of the head. With his foot, and kicked me in the forehead. | :15:47. | :15:50.
It quickly became clear what the men were after. I told him where the | :15:51. | :16:00.
safe was. He couldn't open it, so I had to go and open it. Once the safe | :16:01. | :16:07.
was opened, the men took the ?27,000 from inside. But things didn't end | :16:08. | :16:12.
there. I said, I'm dying, I think I'm dying. They put duct tape around | :16:13. | :16:19.
my ankles and got what I thought to be a gun to my neck and said, if I | :16:20. | :16:28.
tell the police, he's coming back for me. With that, they were gone. | :16:29. | :16:40.
From the minute the ambulance passed the court was we realise this is one | :16:41. | :16:42.
of the most serious types of crime we deal with, home invasion with | :16:43. | :16:47.
weapons used, firearms mentioned, we take things seriously from very | :16:48. | :16:51.
early on. Within the first hour, contacting neighbours, doing sweeps | :16:52. | :16:54.
of the area, trying to establish any way we can find these people | :16:55. | :16:57.
immediately because it is the golden hour, that first hour, so much | :16:58. | :17:01.
information comes at you and you have the best chance of getting key | :17:02. | :17:09.
evidence to secure convictions. It wasn't long before DS Dickson Leach | :17:10. | :17:11.
and his team made their first breakthrough. That footage of the | :17:12. | :17:16.
suspect was in police possession within 12 hours. A neighbour's CCTV | :17:17. | :17:21.
camera caught two men scoping out the area, one wearing a UPS uniform | :17:22. | :17:27.
and carrying a parcel. We knew how they had done what they had done but | :17:28. | :17:30.
what we didn't know was who they were. After the initial | :17:31. | :17:37.
breakthrough, weeks passed and DS Dickson Leach and his team scoured | :17:38. | :17:41.
mugshot after mugshot but no-one recognised these men, so they to | :17:42. | :17:48.
Crimewatch road show. As soon as the show went out, we | :17:49. | :17:52.
started to get information coming in. We had names put forward to us | :17:53. | :17:59.
within the first two days. With pressure mounting, and man handed | :18:00. | :18:03.
himself in but refused to give the identity of his accomplished. | :18:04. | :18:09.
Crucially, viewers stepped in and anonymous calls came through with | :18:10. | :18:14.
names of the second man. The final piece of the jigsaw? Gaffer tape. | :18:15. | :18:21.
The key identifier for the accomplice was the fact that his DNA | :18:22. | :18:24.
came back from the gaffer tape he used to tie up the victim. Finally, | :18:25. | :18:34.
they had got them. They both can be pleaded guilty and were convicted of | :18:35. | :18:38.
robbery, possession of an imitation firearm, and possession of an | :18:39. | :18:43.
offensive weapon in a public place. I think this pair have never | :18:44. | :18:47.
committed a crime we are aware of to this level before, this appeared to | :18:48. | :18:50.
be very much an escalation for them. They were willing to do it, they | :18:51. | :18:53.
would do it again. With the injury she suffered with a hammer blow to | :18:54. | :18:57.
the head, the knife, the firearm, she could have died. This could | :18:58. | :19:01.
easily be a murder. They left her tied up. I'm very glad both of them | :19:02. | :19:08.
have been put away for over 12 years, which has been a really | :19:09. | :19:11.
excellent result for us, they will be away for over a decade. | :19:12. | :19:15.
Brilliant work, thank you so much for those crucial calls. | :19:16. | :19:18.
Right, lots more to come this morning, including how to protect | :19:19. | :19:21.
yourself from online holiday booking scams. | :19:22. | :19:26.
And can you make it the end of the line for this man, | :19:27. | :19:29.
I just think I froze and I didn't really know what to do. | :19:30. | :19:35.
But first, we need your help to identify | :19:36. | :19:42.
another man who has been targeting women. | :19:43. | :19:47.
In this case, when they are out walking on their own | :19:48. | :19:49.
With me now is Detective Inspector Paul Ridley | :19:50. | :19:52.
Tell us about the case. The attack took place on the 10th of May just | :19:53. | :20:01.
after midnight, and Lady had been out in Hackney, in Dalston. She | :20:02. | :20:07.
entered Scriven Street and, as you can see on the map, as she was | :20:08. | :20:11.
walking along she felt the presence of a male behind her. She was on her | :20:12. | :20:15.
phone and the male rugby tackled her to the ground with such force that | :20:16. | :20:20.
her telephone broke. He then made off northbound. We have got some | :20:21. | :20:26.
great CCTV of the person. The first camera, you can see the assailant | :20:27. | :20:29.
walking, following her. It then moves into the second camera which | :20:30. | :20:34.
motion detectors and zooms in and you can clearly see the image of the | :20:35. | :20:39.
offender there. What is so chilling is this is just seconds before the | :20:40. | :20:43.
attack took place. You have got a good description of him? He is a | :20:44. | :20:50.
male, late teens to mid 20s, five foot six five foot ten, he is | :20:51. | :20:54.
wearing a Nikkei hooded top and what is distinctive about that is the | :20:55. | :20:57.
sleeve a vertical stripe running from shoulder to hand. Unfortunately | :20:58. | :21:04.
you believe this is linked to another very serious attack? Two | :21:05. | :21:09.
days later on the 12th of May, the same circumstances, and lady out in | :21:10. | :21:16.
Dalston was followed and approached from behind, she hears footsteps and | :21:17. | :21:20.
he tackles her to the ground. She screams and he makes from the scene | :21:21. | :21:24.
again. We can see another image here of how close these two areas are, | :21:25. | :21:29.
and you believe the offender may well be hanging around? We have | :21:30. | :21:33.
spoken to a behavioural profiler who tells us the man is likely to be | :21:34. | :21:37.
loitering around that area and may have followed all the women as well | :21:38. | :21:40.
previously, so if that is the case and you have been followed by this | :21:41. | :21:45.
man, please come forward to our investigation team. There is a | :21:46. | :21:50.
reward? Crimestoppers have put forward a ?10,000 reward which shows | :21:51. | :21:53.
the magnitude of the case and how seriously we are taking it, leading | :21:54. | :21:57.
to the arrest and conviction of this man. Have a look at the image, it is | :21:58. | :22:01.
very, very clear. Thank you for joining us. If you recognise him or | :22:02. | :22:07.
have any information that might help the police, please do get in touch | :22:08. | :22:11.
using the number on the screen, or you can call Crimestoppers. | :22:12. | :22:19.
It's the time of year when many of us are thinking | :22:20. | :22:21.
But holiday fraud is on the rise for the fifth year running, | :22:22. | :22:28.
with thousands of people falling victim to scams. | :22:29. | :22:30.
Here to tell us about some of them is DI Mick Dodge | :22:31. | :22:33.
It is a big problem? Yes, a growing problem, last year ?7.2 million was | :22:34. | :22:46.
lost holiday fraud over 6000 reports received, it is a crime that keeps | :22:47. | :22:51.
on growing. It is a crime fuelled by more and more people booking online? | :22:52. | :22:55.
Three quarters of us book online now. People use that opportunity to | :22:56. | :23:04.
exploit it, fake websites, fake social media profiles, unsolicited | :23:05. | :23:08.
e-mails to con you out of money. It is interesting seeing the different | :23:09. | :23:11.
scams that are out there, we can hear now from a lady called Gemma | :23:12. | :23:15.
Woolley from Bridgend who was another victim of a holiday scam. I | :23:16. | :23:21.
had a response to say that the dates were unavailable to start with and | :23:22. | :23:27.
then within 45 minutes I had another e-mail to say, please ignore the | :23:28. | :23:33.
last e-mail, I had the dates mixed up, we are actually available, so I | :23:34. | :23:37.
just quickly glanced at it, I was ecstatic that it was still | :23:38. | :23:41.
available. Text did everyone, yes, quick, but it now, had a phone call | :23:42. | :23:45.
back to say she didn't know what I was talking about and she | :23:46. | :23:49.
immediately said to me, you have been scammed. You can imagine, | :23:50. | :23:57.
devastated at that point. That is just terrible, Gemma went | :23:58. | :24:00.
through a reputable site but the scammers hacked into the owner, the | :24:01. | :24:06.
property owner's e-mails. How can we better protect ourselves from things | :24:07. | :24:10.
like that? Some of the scams can be complicated but there is simple | :24:11. | :24:13.
advice to protect yourself, things like making sure the website you are | :24:14. | :24:19.
using is reputable, is it registered with an organisation like ABTA, if | :24:20. | :24:23.
you are booking online stay within the payment mechanism on the website | :24:24. | :24:27.
using a credit or debit card, don't pay by bank transfer because usually | :24:28. | :24:31.
lose all protection. When you make a payment, look for the padlock in the | :24:32. | :24:37.
top left-hand corner of the Internet bar, that tells you it is a secure | :24:38. | :24:40.
transaction. And there is more information on the | :24:41. | :24:44.
Action Fraud website, so make sure you head there as well. | :24:45. | :24:46.
Earlier we asked for your help to find a man attacking women | :24:47. | :24:49.
Well, unfortunately we now need you to identify another man, | :24:50. | :24:52.
this time targeting victims on London's buses. | :24:53. | :24:58.
Between 20 and 30, Middle Eastern, dark hair. He just kept staring at | :24:59. | :25:12.
me and touching himself. I felt like I froze. Didn't really know what to | :25:13. | :25:19.
do. Police started receiving reports in | :25:20. | :25:25.
March last year, a man was indiscriminately assaulting women on | :25:26. | :25:28.
London buses. He has never been caught. I was going to a meeting, I | :25:29. | :25:36.
was always rushing around from one part of London to another part. A | :25:37. | :25:42.
few stops after I got on, and man got on and sat next to me, he was | :25:43. | :25:47.
really close. His behaviour made the woman feel anxious. I thought he was | :25:48. | :25:52.
going to try and block me at first because I had my work phone, | :25:53. | :25:56.
personal phone, laptop and everything. But then his legs | :25:57. | :26:00.
started to touch hers. I had a dress on, it was just horrible. I think if | :26:01. | :26:05.
I had trousers on it wouldn't have felt so... It was just not very | :26:06. | :26:10.
nice. He put his leg up, blocking her in, and moved even closer. I | :26:11. | :26:17.
think if I had moved, -- moved my face, we would have touched faces. | :26:18. | :26:21.
The man had started touching himself. I was thinking, should I go | :26:22. | :26:26.
to the bus driver? I didn't know what to do. Scared and worried about | :26:27. | :26:30.
what would happen next, she made a break for it. She pushed past him | :26:31. | :26:35.
and quickly left the bus. And then he just kept staring at me and | :26:36. | :26:40.
touching himself. It was just not nice. When I got off of the bus, he | :26:41. | :26:47.
carried on staring at me from the window. I think I felt like I froze | :26:48. | :26:53.
and didn't really know what to do. It wasn't an accident, he wasn't | :26:54. | :26:59.
embarrassed, he wasn't ashamed. In September, the attacker struck | :27:00. | :27:05.
again. This time targeting the woman who had got on the 226 bus with her | :27:06. | :27:11.
children. I'm a single mum, I use public transport every day. Taking | :27:12. | :27:15.
the kids to school, work, shopping, everything. I was with my kids, I | :27:16. | :27:22.
didn't think I was formidable. Just minutes into her journey, the | :27:23. | :27:27.
offender sat down next to her. At first I thought he was trying to | :27:28. | :27:29.
look at what I was doing on my phone but his face was really close to my | :27:30. | :27:33.
face and I realised he was staring at me. I felt really uncomfortable. | :27:34. | :27:38.
Just grabbing onto my pipe. Then I would look at him and he would stop | :27:39. | :27:42.
and move his hand, and then he would do it again as soon as I went back | :27:43. | :27:51.
onto my phone. I didn't react, I was shocked, I thought, is this real, or | :27:52. | :27:54.
am I dreaming? It took a while when he was doing it for me to respond, | :27:55. | :27:59.
thinking I had to be careful how to respond, I can't scare my kids. My | :28:00. | :28:06.
gosh, I was shaking the whole time. It sounds ridiculous, but I was on | :28:07. | :28:13.
my phone and I couldn't move. He put his whole hand on my thigh and tried | :28:14. | :28:17.
to grab. I turned to him and I said, I know what you are doing, don't | :28:18. | :28:23.
touch me. He just kept struggling. After he was confronted, the | :28:24. | :28:26.
attacker got up and stayed standing on the bus. With shaking hands, the | :28:27. | :28:32.
woman held up her mobile phone and took a photo. I wanted him to know | :28:33. | :28:38.
that I did it, because I wasn't scared, I just felt violated. The | :28:39. | :28:48.
attacker left the bus. Even after he got off the bus, I was shaking for | :28:49. | :28:52.
hours afterwards. I didn't cry, I was just so angry. I think this man | :28:53. | :29:00.
is getting on the bus and his sole purpose for riding on the bus is to | :29:01. | :29:03.
commit these offences, I don't believe he's making any legitimate | :29:04. | :29:07.
journey. Public transport is for anybody and you should be able to | :29:08. | :29:10.
get on without any fear of anything bad happening to you so that is why | :29:11. | :29:14.
it is important that this man is caught and brought to justice. Some | :29:15. | :29:18.
people have said, oh, I wouldn't have reported it because it wasn't | :29:19. | :29:26.
that bad. But I thought, no, it is bad, it is a serious thing. I always | :29:27. | :29:32.
feel so carefree when I go on buses and walking around the street, even | :29:33. | :29:36.
at night time, I never really feared, you think it is never going | :29:37. | :29:47.
to happen to you, but it did. Such a horrible thing to go through. | :29:48. | :29:49.
With me now is Detective Inspector Dave Dixon. | :29:50. | :29:51.
You believe this man is a prolific offender? | :29:52. | :29:56.
Yes, we have him linked to six offences all on buses. He mainly | :29:57. | :30:01.
offence in the daytime but also at night, and it is one of this night | :30:02. | :30:07.
offences that we have got some CCTV footage from the N18 bus. He | :30:08. | :30:21.
immediately goes upstairs and start offending, he offends against for | :30:22. | :30:26.
women, the last woman was asleep and he woke up. He has been assaulting | :30:27. | :30:31.
people on a number of different bus routes? Yes, mainly in Brent and | :30:32. | :30:37.
Park Royal, but also on the 341 in Tottenham, and the 226 from Ealing | :30:38. | :30:41.
to Golders Green. You've got a very clear images of the man responsible? | :30:42. | :30:46.
Yes, all London buses have CCTV cameras that record internally and | :30:47. | :30:51.
externally and we've got some images from him will stop different times | :30:52. | :30:54.
and dates but you can clearly identify in these images that he's | :30:55. | :30:58.
the same man. Also one of the victims took a picture with her | :30:59. | :31:01.
mobile phone and that is also a really good image of him. Thank you | :31:02. | :31:03.
very much. Time now for a look | :31:04. | :31:05.
at today's Wanted Faces. Starting with 26-year-old | :31:06. | :31:08.
Van Than Nguyen, although you may know him | :31:09. | :31:09.
as Jimmy or Giang le. Detectives want to speak to him | :31:10. | :31:12.
in connection to human trafficking and modern slavery incidents at nail | :31:13. | :31:16.
bars across the UK. Originally from Vietnam, | :31:17. | :31:20.
he now has friends and family in Staffordshire, the West Midlands, | :31:21. | :31:22.
Manchester, Cheltenham Next is Sheridan Fayomi, | :31:23. | :31:26.
but he also uses the names Timothy Johnson, Timothy Arnold | :31:27. | :31:32.
and Sheridan Calliste. He was arrested in connection | :31:33. | :31:36.
with the recovery of a quantity of heroin and crack cocaine | :31:37. | :31:39.
and released on police bail, but hasn't returned | :31:40. | :31:41.
for further questioning. He has links to London, | :31:42. | :31:44.
Manchester and Sussex Do you recognise 18-year-old | :31:45. | :31:47.
John Casey, although he sometimes claims he's 22-year-old Michael | :31:48. | :31:54.
Casey? He was released on police bail | :31:55. | :31:56.
in connection to a number of house burglaries | :31:57. | :31:59.
in West Sussex and Brighton. He's failed to return | :32:00. | :32:01.
though and is now wanted. Casey has a badly scarred face | :32:02. | :32:03.
and an Irish accent. Finally today is Tony White, | :32:04. | :32:07.
although you may know him Police in Kent would like to speak | :32:08. | :32:10.
to him about an assault on a woman and the breach | :32:11. | :32:16.
of a restraining order. The 30-year-old has a tattoo | :32:17. | :32:18.
of the words "RIP Nan" on his neck and links to Thanet | :32:19. | :32:22.
and Ashford in Kent. If you know where any | :32:23. | :32:24.
of these faces are, make sure you get in touch | :32:25. | :32:30.
using the numbers on screen. The terrible blaze in West London | :32:31. | :32:36.
that's claimed so many lives has shown us all once again the immense | :32:37. | :32:40.
bravery of all our The job of the police is to serve | :32:41. | :32:43.
and to protect the public, and in the past few months we've | :32:44. | :32:51.
seen how individual officers have put their own lives on the line | :32:52. | :32:53.
time and time again. Next up, the story of two officers | :32:54. | :32:56.
who ran toward the danger to protect PC Craig Nicholson and PC Shand | :32:57. | :33:15.
Panesar have been working together on response for more than five years | :33:16. | :33:18.
and for the pair, every day is different. Being a police officer, | :33:19. | :33:22.
you never know what you're going to have to deal with. It's the brightly | :33:23. | :33:28.
that we get, especially on response team. We get neighbour disputes, | :33:29. | :33:33.
domestic incidents, a wide range. You are under suspicion of | :33:34. | :33:37.
drink-driving. The reports are that art 15-year-old -- there is a 15 rod | :33:38. | :33:44.
missing child, a fight on high Street, all different things that | :33:45. | :33:49.
come out when you're driving around. One night last September, the | :33:50. | :33:52.
officers received a call outs to a house fire in south-west that. As | :33:53. | :33:56.
soon as I heard house-buyer, somebody trapped, no longer | :33:57. | :34:00.
responding, you know that that is going to be a serious incident that | :34:01. | :34:04.
is going to take a lot of people to deal with. The house belonged to | :34:05. | :34:10.
37-year-old Russell Alsop and his partner of 18 years, Heather. | :34:11. | :34:16.
Everyone needs a soul mate and a best friend, that person for the | :34:17. | :34:22.
best times and the bad. At the time, Russell was Heather's full-time | :34:23. | :34:25.
carer as she suffered from emphysema, a form of lung disease. | :34:26. | :34:30.
Unfortunately, it affects a lot of her day-to-day activities, walking, | :34:31. | :34:35.
things normal people take for granted. One evening, Russell was | :34:36. | :34:39.
downstairs preparing Heather's T. It became quite hectic. Something | :34:40. | :34:44.
distracted me away from what I was actually meant to be doing. I forgot | :34:45. | :34:51.
that I had put this chip pan on. So that's when hell broke loose for me. | :34:52. | :34:56.
The chip pan had caught fire and within minutes, the whole kitchen | :34:57. | :35:01.
was in the in flames. I described trying to get into a fire is raging, | :35:02. | :35:08.
with thick black smoke, as your worst nightmare. But Russell | :35:09. | :35:11.
realised Heather was still upstairs. But into the bedroom and she was | :35:12. | :35:17.
lifeless on the bed, like completely non-responsive. Before she lost | :35:18. | :35:25.
consciousness, Heather managed to dial 999. The police were the first | :35:26. | :35:30.
to arrive on the scene. Wow. Definitely started in here. This is | :35:31. | :35:36.
their first visit to the house since that fateful night. I know fires | :35:37. | :35:42.
spread quickly, but you don't realise just how quickly they | :35:43. | :35:48.
spread. Coming from turning up, and they're being smoke inside the | :35:49. | :35:52.
house, and then they're being a raging fire within minutes, it's | :35:53. | :35:59.
strange. It's a bit surreal. We hadn't seen any of this, we'd only | :36:00. | :36:04.
seen the photos. When the call came out to ask that getting him out of | :36:05. | :36:11.
being a couple of minutes maximum, here. This whole area was just | :36:12. | :36:16.
smoke. They peeled the wallpaper off now but this whole area was just | :36:17. | :36:22.
thick black smoke. As first responders, they had to act quickly. | :36:23. | :36:27.
We didn't get more than a couple of metres in before the smoke was just | :36:28. | :36:32.
so thick, we couldn't breathe. Russell was screaming, I thought it | :36:33. | :36:35.
was upstairs to the left so I got halfway up the stairs, I needed to | :36:36. | :36:40.
breathe because the smoke was so bad. So I came back outside, took a | :36:41. | :36:46.
couple of deep breaths and then went upstairs to the left. Just as I got | :36:47. | :36:50.
round the corner to the left I bumped into Russell, and at our feet | :36:51. | :36:58.
was Heather, laying there, lifeless. As far as I remember Heather coming | :36:59. | :37:01.
out to my left and being here, laying on the floor. I took hold of | :37:02. | :37:07.
her anyway I could, grabbed her and dragged her down, quickly as I could | :37:08. | :37:11.
to get her outside. In that split second, when Craig put her down, I | :37:12. | :37:16.
saw that she was making no movement whatsoever. We took her outside to | :37:17. | :37:19.
the pavement just out to the front, about a metre away from the front | :37:20. | :37:24.
door. Heather was obviously not breathing and in a bad way. We got | :37:25. | :37:31.
through around six rounds of CPR. She was completely lifeless. Not | :37:32. | :37:35.
making any noise is odd sounds. After 15 minutes, I felt her stomach | :37:36. | :37:39.
drops. And then she started moving again. She started trying to | :37:40. | :37:45.
breathe, gasping for air but doing it herself. It's the most amazing | :37:46. | :37:51.
feeling ever. I can't describe it. And then finally, the paramedics | :37:52. | :37:55.
arrived and they took over which was amazing. Heather spent the next five | :37:56. | :37:59.
weeks in hospital but went on to make a full recovery. I'm so lucky | :38:00. | :38:06.
that those people responded. Because they're not fire brigade, and I know | :38:07. | :38:13.
they're not meant to, they have no safety equipment, and they did. This | :38:14. | :38:16.
is the sort of people that really make a difference in the world. Now | :38:17. | :38:21.
that Heather is in better health, the officers have come along to see | :38:22. | :38:24.
how they're both coping since the fire. Hello, again. How you doing, | :38:25. | :38:32.
OK? I'm OK, are you OK? You look a lot better. Thank you. Nice to see | :38:33. | :38:40.
you. Nice to see you as well. How are you doing, made? Not too bad. . | :38:41. | :38:50.
Thank you so much for what you did, you are both heroes, I'm so | :38:51. | :38:54.
grateful. Most amazing thing was when you started breathing again, | :38:55. | :38:59.
that, for me, was just amazing. He started breathing, you are starting | :39:00. | :39:02.
to try so hard to breathe on their own and we were still working on | :39:03. | :39:06.
you. You deserve everything that you've been awarded. We've got | :39:07. | :39:10.
everything we deserve, she's still here, that's the main thing. We do | :39:11. | :39:16.
what we do, and it's only when you sit down afterwards to reflect, you | :39:17. | :39:21.
think about what happened. These officers, the Metropolitan Police | :39:22. | :39:27.
and any police force, they do them proud. They helped us and that's an | :39:28. | :39:33.
amazing thing. This is why I joined. The feeling is why someone is still | :39:34. | :39:38.
around because you are able to give them the ultimate helps. That's why | :39:39. | :39:46.
I joined the job, to help people. It's really inspirational, and a | :39:47. | :39:50.
reminder of the bravery of the emergency services. They are putting | :39:51. | :39:54.
themselves out there in the face of danger. And of course, our hearts go | :39:55. | :39:58.
out to everyone involved in the London terror attacks and the | :39:59. | :40:00.
Grenfell Tower fire earlier this week. | :40:01. | :40:08.
Today is all about coming together, as we said earlier, it's about | :40:09. | :40:14.
uniting rather than dividing. The Bees got lots of different people | :40:15. | :40:21.
here, various groups, we have got Sanjit here. You have got very | :40:22. | :40:27.
heavily involved in the aftermath of the tower fire, what did you see | :40:28. | :40:32.
when you are there? In a macro it was very humbling, all of the | :40:33. | :40:37.
different cultures coming together. They showed a lot of selflessness. | :40:38. | :40:46.
And it resonates with us. So it was great to see everyone come together. | :40:47. | :40:49.
And for you on a personal level, what does getting together, what | :40:50. | :40:55.
does this kind of event mean? The last few days we've been asked by a | :40:56. | :40:59.
reporter 's, white did you get involved? What we are saying is, why | :41:00. | :41:04.
wouldn't we get involved? We are taught that humanity is one big | :41:05. | :41:08.
family, and humanity is suffering, so we will help and step up. We have | :41:09. | :41:22.
vans serving homeless people on the streets of London, we enjoy doing | :41:23. | :41:28.
it. It's humbling hearing this. You are organising and Iftar tonight, so | :41:29. | :41:36.
tell me about that? We are fasting for Ramadan and at the end of the | :41:37. | :41:42.
day, we break bread. So tonight including, Islamic relief has and | :41:43. | :41:47.
Iftar, bringing people together -- tonight in Luton, in memory of Jo | :41:48. | :41:54.
Cox. On Monday, you would have heard from Inspector Jim Cole, one of the | :41:55. | :41:58.
first officers on the scene in the London terror attacks, what does | :41:59. | :42:02.
this mean to you, this event? It's nice to get everybody together, see | :42:03. | :42:06.
the community is coming together. The response from people in and | :42:07. | :42:09.
around London Bridge has been fantastic. And Jess, your patch is | :42:10. | :42:18.
London Bridge, important to you? Yes, I'm responsible for the Square | :42:19. | :42:23.
mile, including London Bridge, it's all about reassurance and letting | :42:24. | :42:26.
people know that we are out there. If you see a police officer, talk to | :42:27. | :42:30.
us, we are friendly. It's about being stoic and going forward. | :42:31. | :42:35.
Sticking together. Just chatting to everyone, it's incredible | :42:36. | :42:35.
inspirational. What an inspiring | :42:36. | :42:40.
way to end the week. Now there's just time before we go | :42:41. | :42:43.
for a look at what's been coming in on the calls, | :42:44. | :42:46.
texts and emails. You remember this CCTV from | :42:47. | :42:53.
yesterday? Switch it off, because it's going to fire. Police want to | :42:54. | :42:58.
question this man after an elderly woman was burgled and a man claimed | :42:59. | :43:03.
he was here to turn her gas. Police say that as a result of information | :43:04. | :43:06.
you have given them, they are chasing up a potentially strong | :43:07. | :43:08.
lead. That's it for this week | :43:09. | :43:09.
but we'll be back on Monday. Michelle, where will | :43:10. | :43:12.
you be next week? Rav, I'll be literally | :43:13. | :43:14.
up in the air at a small airfield | :43:15. | :43:16.
in North Yorkshire, where I'll be joining police | :43:17. | :43:17.
on the lookout for smugglers. I just wish everyone for now the | :43:18. | :43:29.
best for the event this weekend. For more details about the crimes on | :43:30. | :43:33.
this programme, head to our website. He is another look at this morning | :43:34. | :43:42.
's wanted faces. We'll be back on Monday morning. Take care. | :43:43. | :43:45. |
