and purring cats, all make good pets. Pets are great!

Today, I've come to this lovely farm in Cupar

to meet Finn and Fraser and their pets.

I wonder what sort of pets they could have on a farm?

I can see chickens. Let's go and find out.

Where are you off to?

Off to see our pets.

Your pets? Now, what kind of pets do you have?

Actually, don't tell me. I think I know. Chickens?

Because I LOVE chickens!

No, they're bigger than chickens!

Oh, bigger than chickens? OK. Where are they?

-They're just up here.

Ah, right. Who lives here, then?

-My six racing pigs.

-Six racing pigs?

That is a cool and amazing pet!

They're just over there, having a feed.

Yes. OK. How do we get them over here?

-Shake the bucket.

-Ah.

I see you've special pig nuts! They'll love those!

-Look how fast they are!

Oh, my goodness! Hello!

Oh, wow! There's six of them.

What are their names, then?

Annie, Dean, Cecil,

Bea and Ellie.

There are six pigs and only five names.

The brown pig's new and doesn't have a name yet.

-Finn, can I name her?

-Yes.

I think that pigs are very clever and curious animals.

So I'm going to name it Ferne.

-Do you think she'll like that?

-Yes.

Oh, such a beautiful animal.

Now, there are many kinds of pigs, and these pigs,

and many others, love spending time together.

They love hanging out in a big area, just like this.

-Do these pigs stick together, Finn?

-Yes.

-And have you ever seen them sleep nose-to-nose?

-Yes.

-Now, do you know what a pig's nose is called?

-A snout.

-A snout.

And a pig snout is full of muscles,

so they can move their nose around and find things in the dirt.

Very impressive sense of smell.

Ferne, can you tell us some fun facts about our friends here?

Of course, Rory!

Baby pigs are called piglets.

Piglets are usually part of a big pig family,

with ten or more brothers and sisters born at the same time.

Imagine that!

When they are little, piglets feed on milk from their mummies.

Wow! That's a lot of hungry mouths to feed.

A male pig is called a boar, a female pig is called a sow

and a group of pigs is called a herd.

WOOF!

Caring for your pets is SO important.

That includes cleaning them and mucking them out.

You might think pigs are dirty animals,

but they're incredibly clean.

They do, however, like to roll in the mud when it's too hot.

Just like that little lady there.

Come on, Rory! Get back to work.

OK, Finn, would you need me to do?

-Get the straw and put it in your wheelbarrow.

-Got you.

-This is dirty straw, is it?

-Yes.

-OK.

Excellent. So, Finn, this is looking pretty good.

-But is this their toilet, too?

-No, this is their bedroom.

Their toilet's there and that's their shelter.

-So they've different rooms, just like we have?

-Yes.

-Clever pigs.

So the shelter is really important,

as it's a place for the pigs to get out of the sun.

Because, just like us, some pigs can get sunburn.

-I think it's time you put some new straw down.

-Yes.

OK, let's do it.

Let's start putting it in, shall we?

-Do you think this is going to be comfy for them?

-Yes.

-I think so.

-So, do you need to do this every day, Finn?

-Yes.

-Every day?

OK, let's flatten this out, shall we?

-Great. Shall we do the comfy test?

-Yes.

-OK.

Ohhh! Done! Very comfy indeed.

So it's important there's fresh straw for Finn's pigs,

because they don't have very much body hair.

And this straw will help them keep warm at night.

What do we do now then, Finn?

We have to do the toilet.

But I don't need...

No, we have to clean the pigs' toilet out.

Ah, that's a relief.

I really love helping you look after your pigs, Finn.

It's a lot of fun, I've got to say.

-And all this piggy-poo is good for the vegetables, isn't it?

-Yes.

-You said earlier that these are racing pigs?

-Yes.

What's a racing pig?

Well, I train them to go around our course and they follow me

when I have a bucket of food in my hand.

And then, at the finish, they get a little treat of pig nuts.

Ah, pig nuts, some delicious food.

-So THAT'S why they follow you around!

-Yes.

So, what do we have to do here, now? Some fresh straw, do you think?

-Yes.

-OK, let's put some down.

There! That's looking great.

Now, time to wash our hands.

It's really important if you've been petting pigs

or touching fences around them, that you wash your hands.

Pigs carry germs which can be bad for us.

They live in very muddy places indeed,

and although it's good for pigs, it's very bad for our tummies.

OK. All clean.

Woof! Yap-yap-yap!

Caring for your pets is important, but so is play time,

and Finn's pigs get loads

of play time when they're training for a race.

-All done?

-Yes.

-Excellent.

Because we have hidden treasure all around the pen.

We've got little piles of fruit and veg under straw

and we've also hidden a huge treasure chest.

-So, shall we let the treasure hunt begin?

-Yes!

-Let's go!

They love carrots and apples.

-Finn, how you doing?

-Good.

Mouth closed, please, when you're chewing!

-Found a bit of food in there?

-Dig for it, pigs, dig for it!

Don't eat too much, there's still the treasure to find.

I think they all need a rest before all my friends arrive.

If my pigs could do anything, they'd go on an adventure,

they would fly away and land on Dinosaur Land,

on the back of a Diplodocus

and they would slide down its back.

I'm glad the pigs have had a rest,

as there's lots of people here for the race.

Now, we have to choose what colour might win.

There's red, yellow, green, blue, pink and of course,

the brown piggy, Ferne. Have YOU chosen one yet?

'Today, I met Finn and his herd of racing pigs.

'I got him to name his new pig "Ferne".

'We made the pigs a nice, comfy bed of straw.

'We cleaned out their toilet area

'and played hunt the treasure with vegetables.

'Then, piggy Ferne won the pig race!

'It was SO exciting!'

Ha-ha! That's great! Well done, piggy Ferne!
