I do love hamster cheeks, but, I have to admit,

I really like dogs. They're so much fun.

And I love it when they run after their tails.

Today, we're in Banbury to meet Thomas and his pets.

I have no idea what they are. I think he lives just up there.

-I would love to. I hear you have some interesting pets.

-Yes.

-Shall we go see?

-Yeah.

-They're my cats.

-It's Izzy and she's ten years old.

We have three.

-This is Tigs.

He's seven.

And what does Tigs like doing?

He likes sleeping the most.

Oh, cats love to sleep a lot, don't they?

They're good at sleeping.

He likes going out and having adventures.

He's beautiful. And how old is Max?

He's eight.

Eight? Wow. That's still quite young.

Some cats can live for over 20 years!

I love these little cats. They're very cute!

Rory, can you tell us some more feline facts

about my new furry friends here?

Of course, Ferne.

A cat uses its whiskers to tell if a space

is too small to squeeze through.

Cats can hear much, much better than we do.

Cats are well known for being clean.

Tiny hooks on cats tongues help them to groom themselves.

Cats have 30 teeth.

Watch out! They're sharp.

Cats can make great pets and lots of people have them.

They can give you love and affection, if you take care of them,

so it's important to look after them well.

I'm lucky, because today, Tom is letting me help him

look after his cats. So what do we have to do, Tom?

First, we need to clean out their litter tray.

Their litter tray is where cats go to the toilet.

It's a good idea putting on these gloves.

-Do you want to hold a bag and I'll scrape this out?

-Yeah.

-OK.

It's important to get out all the dirt from the litter tray.

Or the cats might not use it.

They like a clean toilet just as much as we do.

It's important to clean out the tray at least once a day.

-We'll tie this and put it in the bin, yeah?

-Yeah.

And what now?

Now we should put some more clean litter in.

That's a good idea.

All right.

That looks good, doesn't it? What now?

Now, we should go and wash our hands.

That is a very good idea.

-Tom, is this is where you feed your cats?

-Yeah.

-It's feeding time now, isn't it?

-Yeah.

-What's this?

-Wet food.

Are you excited, Izzy?

Hmm?

-This is very nice and meaty, isn't it?

-Mm-hm.

-They love meat.

What do you call an animal that only eats meat?

Carnivore.

And cats are definitely carnivores.

Wet food is nice for cats to have, but it's important

to store it in the fridge, to make sure it's fresh.

Before you serve it, you have to make sure it's room temperature,

or they can't smell it. What other food do you give them?

-Dry food.

-That's great.

Dry food is brilliant for cats,

because it keeps their teeth nice and clean.

-Should we put some in this bowl?

-Yes.

So, they've got lots of food and what are we missing?

-Water.

-That's right.

-Should we give them fresh water?

-Yes.

You should give your cats fresh water every day.

There we go.

Perfect.

Good job.

-So, Tom, is this is where your cats sleep?

-Yes.

-Wow!

It's perfect, because it's nice and quiet and warm.

That's where cats love to sleep, in nice, quiet, warm places.

But these beds are very hairy.

We can use these rollers to get rid of the hairs.

-They're very sticky, aren't they?

-Yeah.

-That's a good idea,

-because cats love sleeping in clean beds, don't they?

-Yeah.

OK. Let's clean your cats' beds.

Whoa!

I'm getting lots of hair.

I have very hairy cats.

Yes, you do.

-Will they be happy coming back to nice, clean beds?

-Yeah.

-Tom, do you brush your cats?

-Yeah.

That's good. Cats groom themselves with their tongues,

but it's nice to help them out.

You can remove loose hairs by brushing them

and that saves them from swallowing a lot of fur,

-because they can get fur balls, can't they?

-Yeah.

That's not very nice for them.

-Oh, Tom. Tigs is really enjoying those cuddles, isn't he?

-Yeah.

-So, what's that? It looks like a little door.

-It is.

It's a cat-flap.

Why do you need that?

If you're not here, you can't unlock the door for them,

so all they need to do is just jump

and then they're outside.

When do you need to do that?

When we're not here, like on holiday. Or later.

-What's going on later?

-We're going to my grandma and grandad's house

and we're going to play with the cats.

That's brilliant! Let's go now. It's playtime!

Caring for your pets is really important and it can be fun.

But playtime is even better.

-And it's playtime now, isn't it?

-Yes.

And we've got these special cat rods to play with.

-SQUEAKING

-It keeps our hands safe

from cat claws. We're going to play in the garden

and see how much they love it. Come on, Max!

'Oh, dear. Max doesn't look like he wants to play today.'

-Shall we find the others and play with them?

-Yeah.

-Come on!

'Tigs looks a bit more interested.'

'Izzy isn't so sure.'

'That's the way, Izzy!

'Now they are having fun.'

It was nice of your grandparents to let me come and visit with you.

I really like going to new places.

If Max, Izzy and Tigs could go anywhere, in the entire world,

on an adventure, where would they go?

'If my pets could go anywhere...

'They would go to Mexico and eat tacos.

CRUNCH!

'They would have nachos in their sombrero hats.

'And they'll have ponchos on that would help them fly.'

CRASH!

That's great! It sounds like you have adventurous cats.

-They like to go outside a lot?

-Yes.

-Wow! What you think they do outside?

I think they go on adventures everywhere.

I'd like to see what they get up to.

-It'd be cool if we could follow one, wouldn't it?

-Yeah.

What if we were cat spies?

Cat spies? That's a brilliant idea! We can be detectives!

We can use these and we can try and follow them.

-Shall we go on a cat spying adventure?

-Yeah.

Wow! Look at Tigs go! She is super speedy!

I can't believe Izzy and Tigs made it home before us!
