Today, we're in Banbridge in Northern Ireland to meet James

and his pets. I hope he's at home. Let's go see, shall we?

-OK, you lead the way.

-This is such a snazzy house, James. Who lives in here?

-My ferrets.

-Ferrets? How many do you have?

-Two.

-You are so lucky. I love ferrets.

If you want to open the door you can have a closer look.

Oh, they're so cute.

Oh, they're lovely, James. Hello, you.

Ferrets are very curious and lively little animals

and some of them can make great pets because they're just so cheeky.

-Which is one of the things that I love. Hello, who's this?

-Jessie.

Hi, Jessie. Hello.

-And who's this one?

-Sunny.

-Hi.

-And are they girl ferrets or boy ferrets?

-Girls.

And what type of ferret is Sunny here? She looks incredible.

-Red-eyed ferret.

-Red-eyed ferret.

She's got a beautiful little pink nose. Hello, cheeky thing.

-And how old is Sunny?

-Three years old.

-And what about Jessie?

-Two.

-And you've known Jessie since she was a baby?

-Yeah.

-What's a baby ferret called?

-A kit.

When Jessie was a kit and just born, she would have been so small

she would have been able to lie down in a teaspoon.

And I've got Sunny trying to fit down my sleeve here.

-I'm not too sure she'll make it. Hello.

-There she is.

-Yeah?

Ferrets are so flexible,

so it's perfect. Hello, you.

You're so curious. And this is one of the reasons why

they make such great cheeky little pets.

-So which one is your favourite?

-Jessie.

FERN GIGGLES

-She's so squirmy. Her colours are beautiful, aren't they?

-Yes.

She's got a little black mask on her face.

I think she looks like a superhero.

Rory, can you tell us some ferrety facts about our new friends here?

Of course, Ferne.

Daddy ferrets are called hobs, mummy ferrets are called jills

and baby ferrets are called kits.

A group of ferrets is called a business.

Ferrets are closely related to wild animals called polecats.

They look very similar, don't they?

Ferrets are very nosy and love to have lots of fun.

Lots of pets need care and attention and I'm looking forward to see

how James looks after Sunny and Jessie. James, where are they?

-In the barrel.

-In here?

-Yeah.

-Good thinking.

-Why are they in here?

-So we can clean their house.

-Good idea.

-So they can't escape while their door's open.

-Yeah.

-Shall we get cleaning?

-Yeah.

-Let's go.

-Right, so what do we do first?

-We brush up the old shavings and poo.

Great job.

-Is this a hammock?

-Yeah.

That's great!

Hammocks are great for ferrets.

Not only is it somewhere nice and cosy for them to sleep,

and they sleep a lot, but it's also a really great place

for them to hide if they feel a little bit frightened of anything.

-This is looking a lot better already, isn't it?

-Yes.

-Shall we go get their food and water?

-Yeah.

-Sounds good.

It's very important that after handling your pet

you wash your hands really well. OK, let's go.

Good scrub.

Make sure it's nice and bubbly.

Good job.

-Can we fill a water bottle and food while we here?

-Good idea.

You say when there's enough.

-Looks good?

-Yeah.

-Good to go. And the ferret pellets?

-Yeah.

-OK.

Oh, they're going to be happy!

-Now...we might have to go and wake them up.

-Yes.

-Let's go.

There you are, girls. A nice clean house.

Oh, Sunny's thirsty.

And what about your food?

Happy ferrets. Lovely clean house,

lovely fresh food, and water.

What more could you want?

-They like these footballs, don't they?

-Yeah.

-They like to kick it with their mouth.

-Ferrets use their mouths

for everything and they like to chew lots of different things as well.

-I've got an idea.

-Where are you going?

James?

Come on, Ferne. The ferrets love this tree.

Oh, brilliant. Why do they love the tree?

Because there's lots of stuff to dig and a big hole.

Come on, girls. Have a nice sniff around.

-They love smelling and exploring things, don't they?

-Yeah.

James, I have an idea. Why don't we take the ferrets for a walk?

Come on, girls.

-They're being very good, aren't they?

-Yeah.

-We should give them some water and food.

-That is a good idea,

they definitely deserve it. They've been working hard.

OK...

-So, how should we give them water?

-Out of our hands.

-Oh, OK.

Sunny...

-Right...is that enough?

-Yeah.

Jessie? Jessie. Come on, you. Come on.

Now, we have some special treats for them in here.

Ferrets love a treat once in a while. Do you want some?

Eggs, which are full of goodness, are great for their diet.

Watch those fingers.

Yummy.

-Oh, they like this, don't they?

-Yeah.

Greedy girls. You can let her go, if you want to.

It tickles when they eat off your hand, doesn't it?

Where are you going? Jessie doesn't want a little bit of egg,

she wants the whole bag. Greedy guts. Have yours first.

-I think they've had enough.

-Yeah.

-Shall we go home?

-Yeah.

-Right...

-Are you going to take Jessie?

-Yeah.

-Good job.

Come on, girls. Oh, happy ferrets.

James, if Sunny and Jessie could do anything in the entire world,

what you think they would get up to?

If my pets could do anything they would go to the moon

and play football on the moon. They would have to use their hands

and tails to flip the ball. They would wear red spacesuits

after my favourite football team, and the aliens would be the goalies.

-Wow, James. This is amazing. What's this?

-An assault course.

-Did you make it?

-Yeah.

-It's brilliant, well done.

And it's lovely that your sisters could join us. Hi, girls.

-So, shall we see if the ferrets like this?

-Yeah.

Right, come on, Jessie and Sunny.

-Sunny and Jessie are having a great time at their ferret Olympics.

-Yeah.

-That's a great idea,

let's pretend to be ferrets.

I'm not as good as the ferrets, am I? Oh, no.

-I'm not very good at that, am I?

-No.

-But ferrets are really, really good

when they're in small spaces like some tubes and pipes.

And the reason for that is because their spines

are really flexible - that's their backbone.

So their spines can just do that, that helps them

to turn around in these really, really small spaces.

-They're brilliant at it, aren't they?

-Yeah.

I have had such an amazing day today. Thank you so much, James,

for introducing me to your ferrets, Sunny and Jessie.

It has been wonderful and I cannot wait

Oh, it was so much fun.

Today, I met James and his ferrets, Sunny and Jessie.

We cleaned out their house and gave them fresh food and water.

We went for a walk and gave them eggs as a treat.

And then we got to explore James's ferret assault course.

-Wow, that sounds amazing and you made some great new friends, too.

-I did.
