We've been getting the barn ready for the animals.

We like to make sure that they have the right food and water.

And a comfy place to sleep.

Lots of different animals make excellent pets

and we love coming to meet you and yours.

Today we're in Chorley to visit some friends at a nursery.

I can't wait to meet them and their pet pygmy goats. Come on.

Hi. What are your names?

Hugh.

-I'm Jade.

-Nice to meet all of you. And who are these two?

Ben and Jerry.

Hi, Jerry. Hi, Ben. They're really cute.

-And what are they? ALL:

-Goats.

How do you tell the difference between the two of them?

Jerry has white legs and Ben has black legs.

So Jerry has white legs and Ben has black legs.

And Jerry also has a little bit more white on his head, doesn't he?

They do look quite similar. They're very small.

-Can anyone tell me why they're so small?

-Pygmy goats.

Yeah, they're pygmy goats. Pygmy goats are a miniature breed.

-So they're mini goats. They're so lovely. How old are they?

-Two.

-Two? That's still quite young, isn't it?

-Yes.

-Do Jerry and Ben get along well together?

-Yes.

-They're brothers, aren't they?

-Yeah.

-It's nice that you have two goats

cos they're very friendly and they don't like being by themselves.

What is your favourite thing about having Jerry and Ben as nursery pets?

-Brushing them.

-Brushing them. And what do they feel like?

-Are they really soft?

-Fluffy.

-They are very fluffy, aren't they?

And they always eat the food off my hand.

-And it always tickles me.

-He-he. It's very tickly, isn't it?

What else do you like about your goats?

-The noises.

-And what noises do goats make?

-Baa!

-Baa! They're very noisy, aren't they?

-ALL:

-Baa!

SHE GIGGLES Yeah, it's a funny noise!

-And what are these called on their chin?

-Beards.

He-he-he. But it's not just males that have beards.

Female goats have them too. Do you think I'd look good with a beard?

-ALL:

-Yes!

-I think it'd be fun.

You'd have to brush it every day though, wouldn't you?

Rory, can you tell us some more facts about our bearded buddies here?

Of course, Ferne.

Male pygmy goats are commonly known as billies,

females as nannies and baby pygmy goats are called kids.

There are lots of different colours of pygmy goats.

Like grey, brown or white.

Some are even spotty.

Pygmy goats tend to be very nosy and love to jump on things

so they can see far away.

Pygmy goats like to be kept with pygmy goat friends

so they don't get lonely.

A group of pygmy goats is often called a trip.

Grass and hay are a pygmy goat's favourite food.

But they also like fruit and vegetables as a special treat.

-WOOF

-Care time.

Like all pets, goats need lots of looking after and Jerry and Ben

are really lucky because there's so many people at the nursery to

help take care of them. I'm lucky because I get to help take care of

them today too. What do we have to do to look after these cheeky goats?

-Give them some water, feed them and make their bed.

-Whoa! That's a lot.

We give them water, we feed them and make their bed?

-Shall we do the mucky bit first?

-Yeah.

-OK, let's go.

Excuse me, goats.

'This is where Jerry and Ben sleep.

'We get rid of all the dirty bedding.'

Whoa!

'And make sure we clean up all of their poo.'

-Whoa.

-Whoa, that's a big scoop.

Sophie, do you think the goats will be happy with their new clean house?

Yeah.

Perfect. This is looking very full.

-Should we get rid of the dirty stuff and get their clean stuff?

-Yeah!

-OK.

Put your shovel down and we'll go.

Come on.

-All right. Get a big handful.

-I've got a big handful.

Whoa. Great.

'Now we put down clean bedding.'

Shall we make it nice and fluffy?

'We spread it all out...

'..so the goats will be comfortable.

'Then they have a nice clean bed.'

-So this looks great, doesn't it?

-Yep.

What do we have to do next?

-BOTH:

-Feed them!

-Shall we go do that now?

-Yeah.

-OK.

This way.

All right. Last bit. Will you help pat this down?

Hay is an important part of goats' diet.

It helps to keep them healthy and it's good for their teeth too.

It keeps them nice and clean. Shall we get them some water?

-Yeah.

-OK, come on.

'The goats need to have clean water to drink.'

Lots of lovely fresh water for them.

So we've given the goats fresh water,

we've given them food, we cleaned their house, we made their beds.

Good job, guys! Well done.

Jerry and Ben are going inside to see their clean bed.

I think they like it.

MEOW

-Jerry loves getting his coat brushed, doesn't he, Hugo?

-Yeah.

-What does he feel like?

-Fluffy.

-He's very fluffy.

But his coat isn't very waterproof

so it's great that he's got a nice house in the back to shelter in.

What else does Jerry like doing?

He always eats snacks.

If Jerry and Ben could do anything in the world,

what would they do?

If Jerry and Ben could do anything,

they would go on a very sunny holiday.

They would bounce on a big trampoline into the sea

and go swimming all around the beach.

They would make friends with some friendly dolphins.

And at the end of the day, they would eat ice cream.

Jerry and Ben are such great pets, we've decided to paint them

a lovely picture for their house, haven't we?

-ALL:

-Yeah!

-It is going to be good

and it will be a surprise because we're hiding in the field

so they can't see. Shall we get started?

-ALL:

-Yeah!

-Come on.

Hmm. What colour's first?

-I want blue.

-I want blue.

-Yeah. I'm going to do some grass.

-I'm doing the sea.

-Oh, I like the sea. That will be nice.

So we can have grass here and the sea over there?

-There's sea here.

-That's beautiful. That looks like a big wave.

-Ye-he!

-Yeah, it's a big wave.

-That looks amazing.

-This sea is brilliant.

Wow, nice, Hugh.

-Nice big sun.

-I'm going to make another sun.

-Do you know what we still haven't painted yet?

-No.

-What?

-Yeah.

-It is gorgeous.

'Pygmy goats love to play outside,

'especially when it's warm and sunny.'

I love doing this.

And I love doing paint.

I love painting. It's very fun.

-Is that the butterfly?

-Yep. I'm trying to do a butterfly.

-What do you think Jerry and Ben's favourite colours are?

-Green.

White and green are their favourite colours. Those are nice.

And they're surrounded by it, aren't they?

Cos they've got lots of green grass.

'Most goats like to eat grass. But they also love to eat

'some leaves, shrubs and weeds too.'

I think we should write their names as well.
