Today we're at a community farm in South Wales, which is

home to lots of different animals and a great place to see them up close.

Jacob and Lily come here often and they're going to show me around.

Let's go and find them.

You must be Jacob and Lily! Hello!

-Hello, Rory.

And you must be Jacob's mum and you must be Lily's mum, right?

-BOTH:

-Hi, Rory.

-Great. And who are these guys?

-Who's this?

-Darla.

-She is gorgeous. And who's this?

-Finn.

Finn, you're lovely. Nice hairdos, guys. I like them.

These look like miniature Shetland ponies.

-What other animals are there?

-There are loads of animals here.

OK, then, let's go.

This is my first time on a community farm,

but Jacob and Lily have visited lots of times.

What do you guys love about it here?

The Shetlands and the horses.

I like the Cuddle Corner and the cute rabbits.

-Oh, do you get to cuddle rabbits there?

-Yeah.

-Brilliant.

This sounds like a great place. Look at these guys. Hiya!

Oh, some lovely goats.

How're you doing?

If you don't have a pet, or even if you do and want to see more,

a community farm is the perfect place to see lots of different animals.

-Shall we go and meet some more animals?

-Yeah.

-Yeah.

-Let's go.

There's so much to see here. This place is awesome, isn't it?

-BOTH:

-Yeah.

-We love it here.

No wonder. Ferne, can you give us some facts about this community farm

-and others like it?

-Of course, Rory.

One - community farms help to teach people all about how farms work.

There is lots to learn on how food is grown and how it is harvested.

Two - some community farms have lots of animals

and some grow their own vegetables as well.

Three - it's not just vegetables that community farms can grow.

They can also grow pretty flowers or tasty fresh fruit. Yummy!

Four - lots of community farms are in the countryside,

but some farms are hiding right in the middle of busy cities.

Looking after any pet is very important

and the animals here are no different.

Jacob and Lily don't own these pets, but today they're looking after them.

Jack works here.

He cares for the animals and today we are going to help. Hi, Jack.

-Hi, Rory.

-This is a lovely pig. Who's this?

-Nancy.

-She's gorgeous, isn't she?

Fancy Nancy. What a lovely pig. She's very calm.

We've got some overalls on here. That means we're in for a mucky job,

but you guys have a plan, so what are we going to do?

First we have to clean out Nancy's pen.

Sounds like a very good idea because pigs like to be nice and clean.

-And then what are we going to do?

-Feed the goats.

Great. Well, I think we should get on with that. We've got lots to do.

Come on, let's go, guys.

-OK, Jack, what's first?

-We'll drag out all the dirty bedding,

pick up all the poo and then we're going to put lots of

clean straw back into Nancy's bed for her.

Who wants to pick up the poo? Rory?

THEY GIGGLE

Fine, OK, I'll do the poo!

Let's get moving then.

So Nancy's been really good, Lil. She's kept her bed nice and clean.

We'll just fluff up all the straw and make it nice and comfy for her.

Although pigs roll in mud, it's not because they're dirty.

It's to cool themselves down.

Pigs are actually very clean, so I think Nancy's going to be very

happy with this clearing out that we're doing, don't you?

-Yes.

-Right, let's keep going.

RORY SIGHS

Well, everyone, great work.

Do you think we've done a good job, Jack?

-I think so, but let's see what Nancy thinks.

-That's a good idea.

-Do you think she's going to like it?

-Yes.

-Yes.

-Let's have a look.

There we go. Do you think Nancy likes it?

-Yes.

-Yes.

-Yes, I think Nancy looks very happy.

Now it's time for us to feed the goats. What do we need to do first?

BOTH: Wash our hands.

Yes, and we should wash our wellies as well. Let's go. Come on.

Jack's putting some hay out for the goats.

These goats are very friendly so we're going to feed them by hand.

You can't do that with all goats.

-What have we got to feed them?

-Goat food pellets.

Yes, we do. Shall we see if they're hungry?

Here's some pellets. I'll pass that over.

You hold that bowl there. Right, guys, what do you think?

Someone's coming over. Hiya.

Put your hand nice and flat and they'll gently lick it off.

You had some?

It tickles a little bit.

Male goats are called bucks or billy goats

and female goats are called nannies or does.

-Do you guys know what baby goats are called?

-Kids.

-Kids.

Yeah, that's right. I think that's a great name for baby goats.

Goats are very smart and curious animals,

so it's important to give them lots of space to explore and look around.

Some goats have excellent co-ordination and great balance.

That means they can climb up things and explore really well.

-I think the goats look full now.

-I think they look very happy.

Yes. Let's go.

Have you enjoyed looking after the animals in the community farm?

-Yeah, it's been fun.

-It has been fun. Hard work too, though.

-Do you think the animals have enjoyed it?

-Yes.

If the animals here could do anything,

what do you think they would do?

If the animals at the community farm could do anything,

they would throw a surprise party for the rabbit's birthday.

And the horses would dance,

the goats would eat birthday cake

and the rabbits would sing songs.

And it would be a big, fun birthday party.

-Well done, guys. We've worked really hard today, haven't we?

-Yes.

-Yes.

We've been so busy that we've not gone round the whole community farm

and seen all the animals, so I think we deserve a treat.

Let's hop on the tractor ride and check everything out.

But that trailer's very big.

There's far too much room for just three of us.

-I think we're going to need some friends.

-Yay!

Whoa, hi, guys!

-Who wants to go on a tractor ride? ALL:

-Me!

Yeah, let's go.

-Are you ready? ALL:

-Yes!

Excellent.

Is there anything up there?

Oh, yeah, look, the Highland cow.

Hi, cow.

This is a bumpy tractor.

It's very bumpy, isn't it?

Sheep. We have some sheep.

-100 sheep.

-Look, yes.

-Hi, sheep.

-Hi, sheep.

Baa! Baa!

He talks to them. Everyone say "Baa" to the sheep.

ALL: BAA! BAA! BAA! BAA! BAA!

There's some rams.

-The horns had, like, a circle?

-Yeah, it's like a big spiral, isn't it?

-A pig. Oh, yes.

-Pig.

Oink! Oink! Oink!

I wonder if they're friends with Fancy Nancy?

Tunnel's coming. Ooh!

Right then, guys, got a little challenge for you all.

As we head through the tunnel, I'll count down from three.

When I get to one, I'll blast the tractor's horn

and I want to see if you can make more noise than the horn can.

-Are you ready, everyone?

-ALL: Yes!

Pets are brilliant,

but you shouldn't touch an animal unless the owner says it's OK.

But two pets you can definitely play with are ours.
