Hello and welcome to Malvern,

0:00:040:00:06

a popular spa town in the early 19th century.

0:00:060:00:09

Now, we're not in the health club, nor are we in a Wendy house.

0:00:090:00:13

We're actually in a Victorian gentleman's lavatory!

0:00:130:00:17

That's what it was -

0:00:170:00:18

before it was transformed into one of the smallest theatres in the world.

0:00:180:00:21

Well, less of these theatricals, let's get this show on the road,

0:00:250:00:28

let's go Bargain Hunting!

0:00:280:00:30

-Hurray!

-Oh, thank you!

0:00:300:00:33

Loved by antique dealers and vintage collectors alike,

0:00:590:01:03

the Malvern flea market is one of the biggest of its kind in the UK,

0:01:030:01:07

attracting thousands of customers and hundreds of stallholders.

0:01:070:01:12

Armed with £300 in their pocket,

0:01:120:01:14

and one hour to find three items

0:01:140:01:17

that, hopefully, will give them a profit at auction,

0:01:170:01:20

time is of the essence.

0:01:200:01:22

Let's take a look at what's coming up.

0:01:220:01:24

There's no hanging around for the Reds.

0:01:260:01:28

-I'm impressed!

-It's your chance to be famous.

-Speedy!

-Speedy!

-Speedy or what?!

0:01:280:01:33

The Blues are coming out of their shell.

0:01:350:01:37

-Which one am I?

-Er, the crab.

0:01:370:01:40

Am I the crab?

0:01:400:01:42

Over at the auction, there are some highs...

0:01:450:01:48

-Yes!

-30!

-Yes!

-30!

0:01:480:01:50

And some lows...

0:01:500:01:51

This is terrible.

0:01:510:01:53

-It's not good!

-Terrible!

0:01:530:01:55

But all that's coming up later, so let's meet today's teams.

0:01:570:02:00

And they're all friends who share a passion for music.

0:02:000:02:03

For the Reds, we've got chums Neil and Paul,

0:02:030:02:06

and for the Blues, we've got housemates Anna and Alice.

0:02:060:02:09

-Hello.

-Hello.

-Hello.

0:02:090:02:11

So, Paul, how did you meet?

0:02:110:02:13

Yeah, we met way back in 1991.

0:02:130:02:16

I'm a... I play guitar, Neil's a bass player,

0:02:160:02:19

and we all played in bands together back in the early '90s.

0:02:190:02:23

The indie scene, and all that. So, yeah, I've known him for a long time, yeah.

0:02:230:02:26

-And where was this all happening?

-All in Coventry, yeah.

0:02:260:02:29

Coventry, right.

0:02:290:02:30

Home of The Specials, The Enemy, and all that.

0:02:300:02:32

-Oh, right.

-Yeah.

-So, it was a big scene way back then?

0:02:320:02:35

-Big scene, yeah.

-Amazing.

0:02:350:02:36

-So, nice, yeah.

-And, tell me, I know that for the past 11 years,

0:02:360:02:39

-you've been a postman?

-I have indeed, yeah.

0:02:390:02:41

Yeah, I love it. I absolutely do love it,

0:02:410:02:43

I've got a nice little round and nice people. So, really enjoy it, yeah.

0:02:430:02:46

So, Neil, we've established that you both play in a band -

0:02:460:02:49

but what do you do when you're not playing music?

0:02:490:02:52

I work, I run a software team for a small engineering company in Coventry.

0:02:520:02:56

I've been there for about 18 years.

0:02:560:02:58

I like to collect vinyl, I started doing that again recently,

0:02:580:03:01

I sort of rekindled my love for vinyl,

0:03:010:03:04

and, erm, got myself a nice, decent record player

0:03:040:03:07

and it's making a massive comeback.

0:03:070:03:09

I love that. And me and my wife also like to go round vintage shops.

0:03:090:03:13

We love, sort of, post-modern furniture and vintage clothes.

0:03:130:03:17

Even down to charity shops, anything, really, that's what we love to do.

0:03:170:03:20

Well, lads, what sort of tactics are you coming up with for today?

0:03:200:03:24

Well, being in a band, we work very well together.

0:03:240:03:27

So, er, I want to give him all the money...

0:03:270:03:30

-Yeah.

-And let him do all the decisions.

0:03:300:03:31

Excellent. So, that's it in a nutshell, is it?

0:03:310:03:34

-Yeah, that's it.

-OK. I think somebody's here for an easy ride!

0:03:340:03:37

We'll soon find out later.

0:03:380:03:39

But turning to the Blues, erm, Anna...

0:03:390:03:42

-Yes.

-Tell me how you girls first met.

0:03:420:03:45

So, we met through a mutual friend of ours at a music concert in Bristol.

0:03:450:03:49

Yeah, and then about six months down the line from that,

0:03:490:03:52

we all live together in our Temple Of Cool,

0:03:520:03:54

-which is what we affectionately name our house.

-Temple Of Cool.

0:03:540:03:57

-Temple Of Cool, yep.

-I love that expression!

0:03:570:03:59

-Er, favourite band?

-That would be Brand New.

0:03:590:04:02

Brand New?

0:04:020:04:03

I'm not sure I've got their latest album, but...

0:04:030:04:05

So, Anna, what do you do for a living?

0:04:050:04:07

So, I work as the artist in residence at Orchard School, Bristol.

0:04:070:04:11

So, it's sort of all the creative things,

0:04:110:04:12

part of my job is to make sure the school looks nice,

0:04:120:04:15

but I also work with, obviously, our kids and partnership primary schools,

0:04:150:04:19

doing workshops, mostly kind of pottery,

0:04:190:04:21

but there's other things involved in that.

0:04:210:04:23

And I also do community art projects.

0:04:230:04:25

So, Alice, tell me, what do you do for a living?

0:04:250:04:27

I run a pottery studio in Bristol.

0:04:270:04:30

It's basically where people come along and they paint the blank pottery

0:04:300:04:35

and then they leave it with us and we glaze it and fire it and then

0:04:350:04:38

they come and collect it after.

0:04:380:04:39

Yeah, so it's kind of like a do-it-yourself pottery place.

0:04:390:04:43

So, the music side of your life...

0:04:430:04:46

Tell me a little bit more. We know your favourite band,

0:04:460:04:48

but tell me a little bit more about your band.

0:04:480:04:51

Yeah, we've sort of just started.

0:04:510:04:52

Quite a lot of our friends are in bands,

0:04:520:04:54

and we go to the gigs all the time.

0:04:540:04:56

We were like, we can do that. So, we've got a little band together.

0:04:560:04:58

-What do you play?

-I play bass and guitar.

0:04:580:05:01

So, sort of, switch around with the other bassist and guitarist.

0:05:010:05:03

-And Alice?

-I write all of the lyrics and do the singing.

0:05:030:05:07

When it comes to tactics today, what have you come up with?

0:05:070:05:11

-I think we're here to make Bargain Hunt history, really.

-Yeah, definitely.

0:05:110:05:14

We want to make the biggest win, but we're prepared to make the biggest loss.

0:05:140:05:18

-Fighting talk, hey?

-I think it's definitely the way to go to just pick what we like.

0:05:180:05:21

Yeah, we're just going to go with our gut.

0:05:210:05:23

If we see something and we think it's nice, we're going to go for it.

0:05:230:05:26

Yeah. OK. So, time for the money.

0:05:260:05:28

£300 for the Blues.

0:05:280:05:31

And £300 for the Reds.

0:05:310:05:33

So, time to go and meet your experts.

0:05:330:05:36

So, off you go!

0:05:360:05:38

Well, a battle of the bands - who's going to be number one?

0:05:380:05:41

Well, the teams are going to need a helping hand along the way today.

0:05:430:05:46

Wheeling and dealing with the Reds is Caroline Hawley.

0:05:480:05:51

And didgeridoo-ing it for the Blues is Thomas Plant.

0:05:510:05:57

-What are you looking for?

-Something musical, I think, yeah.

0:05:580:06:01

I'd kind of like to find something sort of glitzy.

0:06:010:06:04

Yeah, something quite glitzy and kind of original.

0:06:040:06:06

-What about you, Neil?

-Er, something small, something shiny.

0:06:060:06:10

Definitely something weird and wonderful, 100%.

0:06:100:06:13

Things are about to heat up, teams, because your 60 minutes start now.

0:06:130:06:17

WHISTLE

0:06:170:06:18

-Let's go!

-Let's walk that way.

0:06:180:06:19

-That way?

-Yeah, definitely. Yeah. Let's go that way.

-Come on, then!

0:06:190:06:23

Well, that's quite an eclectic mix on today's shopping list.

0:06:230:06:27

Good luck, teams!

0:06:270:06:28

So, can you play anything stringed, then?

0:06:290:06:31

Yeah, mostly, yeah. Mostly. I've had a...

0:06:310:06:34

There's been quite a few things I've attempted.

0:06:340:06:36

-Really?

-Anything with strings, apart from shoelaces!

0:06:360:06:39

Well, you can't be good at everything!

0:06:410:06:43

Meanwhile, the Blues are jumping straight in with this vase.

0:06:430:06:46

-You like the frogs?

-Yeah.

0:06:460:06:48

It's a bit of modern art pottery.

0:06:480:06:50

-Yeah.

-Why do you like it?

0:06:500:06:52

I don't know, I just kind of like the colours.

0:06:520:06:54

-Yeah, quite like the frogs as well.

-We are a big fan of frogs.

0:06:540:06:56

Have you kissed many frogs?

0:06:560:06:58

All of them, yeah, every single one.

0:06:580:07:00

-Yeah? And they turned into princes?

-No.

-No?

-Not one.

0:07:000:07:02

-Not at all, no.

-Not one?!

0:07:020:07:03

I think you've got to kiss a lot of toads first.

0:07:030:07:06

So, this is £48.

0:07:080:07:10

Mmm.

0:07:100:07:12

People do collect frogs and toads and things like that.

0:07:120:07:14

-OK.

-So, you've got that angle going for it.

0:07:140:07:17

-Yeah.

-Bernard Rooke IS a name.

0:07:170:07:19

Yep. What's the very best on your Bernard Rooke?

0:07:190:07:22

I'll do it for £25.

0:07:220:07:23

If I can push you down to £20...?

0:07:230:07:24

-No. No. 25's quite good.

-OK.

0:07:240:07:27

-Is there a chance of a profit? Well, yes, there is.

-Yeah.

0:07:270:07:29

Because it's only £25.

0:07:290:07:31

-Yeah, OK, erm...

-Do you want to think about it?

-Yes, I think so.

0:07:310:07:34

-Are you sure?

-Yeah. Let's think.

-On you go, then, well, good spot.

0:07:340:07:37

Lovely!

0:07:370:07:38

One to consider for the Blues.

0:07:380:07:40

Now, will the Reds be giving these a home?

0:07:400:07:43

Can we have a look at this, please, yeah, yeah.

0:07:440:07:47

So, what attracted you to that, then?

0:07:470:07:49

-It's just quite quirky, isn't it?

-Yeah, yeah. It's quirky. Colourful.

0:07:490:07:53

-It has a friend.

-Oh, look, you've got the teapot as well!

0:07:530:07:57

-And another friend.

-And another friend, look at that!

0:07:570:07:59

We've got three pieces.

0:07:590:08:01

-Excellent.

-I've sold those lots over the years.

0:08:010:08:05

-Yeah.

-And they are very, sort of, pretty, interesting.

0:08:050:08:08

I mean, they're less popular than they were.

0:08:080:08:11

-Yeah.

-So, what are we looking at for something like that, then?

0:08:110:08:13

I can do you the three pieces for 25 quid.

0:08:130:08:17

-That's not bad, is it?

-For £25, that...

0:08:170:08:19

Would you do 20 on it, for the whole lot?

0:08:190:08:21

I couldn't do that, no.

0:08:210:08:23

I think 25's reasonable.

0:08:230:08:24

Yeah, 25's reasonable, yeah.

0:08:240:08:26

-Hey, guys!

-What do you think, Caroline?

0:08:260:08:28

-They're all in good nick.

-I think you made a very quick decision, yes. Are they all OK?

0:08:280:08:32

-You want those?

-We'll give them a go, yeah.

0:08:320:08:34

-Yeah.

-We will wrap it for you, OK?

-Excellent, thank you very much.

0:08:340:08:37

-Come here, young man, this is your chance to be famous.

-Hey, I'm impressed!

0:08:370:08:41

-Speedy!

-Speedy!

-Speedy, or what?!

0:08:410:08:43

What inspired that?

0:08:430:08:45

-Crikey. Yeah. Nice colours and that.

-Brilliant!

0:08:450:08:49

-Could be a good little seller, that.

-Brilliant.

0:08:490:08:52

Well done, Reds. Just five minutes in and your first purchase made!

0:08:520:08:56

Meanwhile, over with the Blues, what does Thomas have his eye on?

0:08:560:09:00

This is interesting.

0:09:000:09:01

It looks sort of Oriental.

0:09:030:09:05

-Mm-hmm, yep.

-And then we've got some writing on the base underneath these figures.

0:09:050:09:09

This is very sort of Art Nouveau, this design here,

0:09:090:09:12

and then it could look, sort of, pseudo-Japanese.

0:09:120:09:15

It's extraordinary, it's only £18.

0:09:150:09:17

I picked it up because I thought it was a throwing knife.

0:09:170:09:20

-OK, yeah.

-Not because I like throwing knives, I just thought,

0:09:200:09:23

it's a strange thing. But it's obviously a paper knife, isn't it?

0:09:230:09:25

-Yeah. OK, cool.

-A desk paper knife - but it needs a jolly good clean.

0:09:250:09:29

You can have that for a tenner if you want it.

0:09:290:09:31

Thank you. I think it's quite fun.

0:09:310:09:34

Can you see all the amazing detail?

0:09:340:09:36

You've got the face, you got a figure here.

0:09:360:09:38

-Mm-hmm.

-And then you've got this lovely flower up top.

-Yeah.

0:09:380:09:41

Yeah. Against this gold...

0:09:410:09:43

..gilt-coloured background, and the flowers down here.

0:09:440:09:48

-I'm quite fond.

-Yeah.

0:09:480:09:50

I've become quite fond of it.

0:09:500:09:51

-OK.

-You fond of it?

-I'm fond of it, yes, let's go with it.

0:09:510:09:54

-It's only a tenner, isn't it?

-It is. Yeah.

-Can't go wrong with a tenner.

0:09:540:09:57

Or were you thinking about spending more?

0:09:570:09:59

We were thinking about spending the whole lot, but I think...

0:09:590:10:02

Well, you've got three items.

0:10:020:10:03

If you spot a bargain, you kind of should...

0:10:030:10:05

-You should hunt the bargains.

-You should hunt the bargains.

0:10:050:10:07

-That was our tactics.

-Yep.

0:10:070:10:08

It's worth a go at a tenner, isn't it?

0:10:080:10:10

I reckon. Yeah, let's do it.

0:10:100:10:11

-Yes, please.

-We'll have that for a tenner.

0:10:110:10:14

Thank you very much, that's lovely. Brilliant. OK, that's very exciting.

0:10:140:10:17

-Cool.

-Done!

-We've been like shopping for minutes!

0:10:170:10:19

Well done, Blues, your first item is in the bag.

0:10:190:10:22

Now, will this hit the right notes with our musicians?

0:10:250:10:27

Oh, but it looks a little bit deficient in some way, doesn't it?

0:10:270:10:30

-Yeah. Yeah, it's lost a bit of wind, by the looks of it.

-Yeah.

0:10:300:10:33

-Yeah.

-No, so, not for you, no.

0:10:330:10:35

Er... No.

0:10:350:10:37

Look at that, that's just exactly what you want, isn't it?

0:10:370:10:40

-Ah, that's brilliant.

-That's kind of what we are!

0:10:400:10:42

-Yeah!

-You are not a travelling freak show!

0:10:420:10:44

-We could use that at home!

-We could, definitely.

-Yeah?

-Yeah.

0:10:440:10:47

Well, you are looking for something weird and wonderful.

0:10:470:10:51

Meanwhile, the Reds have spotted something shiny.

0:10:510:10:53

-What date's that? Have you dated it?

-Not sure, I haven't dated that one.

0:10:540:10:59

And what price is that?

0:11:000:11:02

20. There's a big dent there.

0:11:020:11:05

-Little...

-Silver's really soft, you know, and it does dent.

0:11:050:11:08

-Yeah.

-But it's not too bad and it's very shiny.

0:11:080:11:11

-Yeah.

-We've got the full set of silver marks here,

0:11:110:11:13

they're a little bit rubbed,

0:11:130:11:15

but we can see that it's British sterling silver.

0:11:150:11:18

We've got a maker's mark here and I think it's made in London.

0:11:180:11:21

But it is just a little bit rubbed.

0:11:210:11:23

-Yep.

-And that's exactly what you'd expect - the original back.

0:11:230:11:27

That's great. What's not to like about it?

0:11:270:11:30

-Excellent.

-I'd have that.

-Fantastic.

0:11:300:11:31

Can you do better than 20?

0:11:310:11:35

-18.

-16?

0:11:350:11:36

-Yeah?

-Go on, then.

-Thank you very much.

0:11:380:11:41

Congratulations, that's two items down.

0:11:410:11:44

Your second buy done.

0:11:440:11:45

-Yes.

-Yeah, really happy with that.

-So, we've got shiny.

0:11:450:11:48

-Yeah.

-Now we need musical.

-Excellent.

-Come on.

-Thank you very much.

0:11:480:11:51

So, whilst the Reds are sticking to their game plan,

0:11:510:11:54

the Blues have spotted something fishy.

0:11:540:11:56

-There's a lobster here.

-Now, look. Look at these!

0:11:560:12:00

-Those are pretty weird.

-They are pretty weird.

-They are pretty weird.

-Wonderful.

0:12:010:12:04

They are. Do you want to pick them up?

0:12:040:12:06

-Yeah.

-See what they're made of.

0:12:060:12:08

Ooh!

0:12:080:12:10

-It's real!

-Oh, God!

0:12:100:12:11

-What are they made of?

-Well, they look like plastic, don't they?

-Yeah, they are plastic.

0:12:140:12:17

Yeah, they're plastic. They're props for a fish counter or a restaurant,

0:12:170:12:21

aren't they? I think they're quite fun, actually.

0:12:210:12:23

-I quite like them.

-I quite like them.

-Yeah, they're interesting, they're just unusual.

0:12:230:12:27

-Yeah.

-Got a shrimp, lobster and a crab - how much for the three?

0:12:280:12:34

You can have those for 12.

0:12:340:12:35

12. Could you round it up to a tenner?

0:12:350:12:37

-Go on, then.

-Thank you very much.

0:12:370:12:40

-Thank you.

-I love them.

-They're weird, they're wonderful, they're just crustac...

0:12:400:12:43

-I mean, they're from a fish counter.

-Yep.

-They're made out of plastic.

0:12:430:12:46

They're basically like portraits of all of us at the moment, aren't they?

0:12:460:12:49

-Yeah.

-Which one am I?

-Er, the crab.

-Am I the crab?!

0:12:490:12:53

That's brilliant. We'll buy those for a tenner. That's our second item down.

0:12:560:13:00

-Brilliant.

-We're smashing it.

0:13:000:13:02

-So, you've spent like 20 quid.

-20 quid.

0:13:020:13:04

-That means the next thing we can get can be really expensive.

-You can go for it, if you want!

0:13:040:13:08

-Let's go for it.

-Go for it! Come on, then, let's go.

-Cool!

0:13:080:13:10

Well done, Blues, another item snapped up.

0:13:100:13:13

Now, it's 2-2, with 45 minutes left.

0:13:130:13:15

Meanwhile, Neil has spotted some retro chairs.

0:13:170:13:21

-Is there any age in them?

-I don't know, I don't know.

0:13:210:13:25

-No.

-I'm not overkeen, but...

0:13:250:13:26

-No, OK, that's fine.

-I don't think they're stylish enough.

0:13:260:13:29

-No, no.

-But if we remember where they are...

0:13:290:13:32

-Yeah, move on, we've got a good bit of time left, so...

-Yeah.

-Let's move on.

0:13:320:13:36

Keep looking, Reds!

0:13:360:13:38

So, are you pleased with how it's going, Caroline?

0:13:380:13:41

They've got an awful lot of money left to spend

0:13:410:13:43

and they're looking for something, either '60s furniture,

0:13:430:13:46

'60s, '70s furniture, I think, or a bit of a musical instrument?

0:13:460:13:51

So, I mean, they could almost get a Stradivarius, couldn't they?

0:13:510:13:54

-We'll have to wait and see.

-We will, indeed.

0:13:540:13:57

So, what have the Blues found?

0:13:570:13:58

Barrels. They're quite nicely done. What would you use them for?

0:13:580:14:03

-Erm, knitting?

-They're quite big, though, aren't they?

0:14:030:14:07

-They are quite big. I do a lot of knitting, I think you underestimate me.

-Do you?

0:14:070:14:11

Oh, really? What do you knit?

0:14:110:14:13

-Mainly scarves.

-Yeah?

0:14:130:14:15

Some hats I've knitted, before.

0:14:150:14:16

I've knitted some teddy bears, as well, before.

0:14:160:14:18

-Have you?

-But they always end up looking kind of smushed.

0:14:180:14:21

-Smushed?

-Yeah, because I can't get the tension right on them.

0:14:210:14:25

So, are we interested in these or not?

0:14:250:14:26

-I don't think...

-You don't think so. They're not glitzy and they're not weird and wonderful.

0:14:260:14:30

-They're not glitzy and weird and wonderful.

-Let's go.

-So, it's a no to the barrels.

0:14:300:14:34

But you still have plenty of time left.

0:14:340:14:35

We're just under halfway and we've bought two items,

0:14:350:14:40

both for £10 each.

0:14:400:14:42

I feel a bit guilty. I sort of pushed them into both of them.

0:14:420:14:45

I really think this next item, we have to be careful,

0:14:450:14:49

but it has to be their decision.

0:14:490:14:50

So, whilst the teams continue shopping,

0:14:510:14:54

I want to show you one of my great treasures.

0:14:540:14:56

Now, I love all types of ceramics,

0:15:040:15:06

but I do love blue and white porcelain,

0:15:060:15:09

whether it comes from Japan,

0:15:090:15:10

whether it comes from England or Germany or China.

0:15:100:15:14

And today, I've brought along a Chinese porcelain footed bowl,

0:15:140:15:18

and it's one of my favourites.

0:15:180:15:20

I've owned it for well over 30 years

0:15:200:15:23

and I cannot begin to tell you how much pleasure this bowl has given,

0:15:230:15:28

and continues to give me.

0:15:280:15:30

The decoration is simply superb.

0:15:310:15:35

If we look, we'll see that there's a continuing frieze of figures,

0:15:350:15:40

but the tonal quality of the blues is quite exceptional.

0:15:400:15:45

This is all hand-painted.

0:15:450:15:47

And the remarkable thing, it's all been done first-time.

0:15:470:15:51

You cannot paint porcelain like this, get it wrong and rub it out.

0:15:510:15:56

You've got to get it right first time.

0:15:560:15:58

It's a remarkable achievement.

0:15:580:16:00

Date-wise, we are looking at an item that was made in around about

0:16:000:16:07

1660 to about 1720, during the reign of the Emperor Kangxi.

0:16:070:16:12

That's when an awful lot of Chinese porcelains were making their way

0:16:120:16:16

into Europe and, eventually, of course, into Britain.

0:16:160:16:19

On the base, you've got a mark.

0:16:190:16:22

Now, that mark would excite quite a few people,

0:16:220:16:24

because believe it or not, it's a Ming mark.

0:16:240:16:27

And it's a Ming that relates to the Emperor Chenghua,

0:16:270:16:30

who was living in the later part of the 15th century.

0:16:300:16:35

But the truth is, it's much later, as I said - 1660-1720.

0:16:350:16:40

So, why on Earth would anybody do that?

0:16:400:16:43

Well, the long and short of it is that these marks are said

0:16:430:16:46

to be a homage to the previous Ming period.

0:16:460:16:50

But having said that, doesn't matter one jot to me.

0:16:500:16:54

That, for me, is ceramic perfection.

0:16:540:16:57

It's an object which I bought for £50.

0:16:570:17:00

The reason I got it so cheap

0:17:000:17:02

is because it's got two hairline cracks.

0:17:020:17:04

But do they bother me?

0:17:040:17:06

No, they don't bother me, because the truth is,

0:17:060:17:08

had this been perfect,

0:17:080:17:10

I would have been paying at least £600-£800 way back then

0:17:100:17:13

and I would not have been able to afford it.

0:17:130:17:15

From a monetary point of view, is it a good investment?

0:17:150:17:18

Does it matter? Because it's all about pleasure.

0:17:180:17:22

And let me tell you now, you cannot put a price on pleasure.

0:17:220:17:26

Back to the shopping and it's 2-2 with 25 minutes to go.

0:17:350:17:39

Spirits are high.

0:17:390:17:40

If only the same could be said for the Malvern weather.

0:17:400:17:44

We can go inside in a minute, because it's dead cold.

0:17:440:17:46

-OK, lovely!

-Caroline, you're so warm!

0:17:460:17:48

We're going to stick together in this one!

0:17:510:17:53

Talking of freezing, look at that gorgeous fireplace!

0:17:530:17:58

Oh, I wouldn't mind sitting on top of that!

0:17:580:18:00

That is so...!

0:18:000:18:01

That is gorgeous!

0:18:030:18:05

That is so French. Just beautiful, isn't it?

0:18:050:18:07

-It's nice, yeah.

-I love that green as well.

-It's a great colour, it's a great colour.

0:18:070:18:11

-There's only one thing missing.

-The fire.

-The fire.

-Yeah.

0:18:110:18:14

I'm imagining it, I'm thinking about it.

0:18:140:18:16

I'm imagining it. Right, come on.

0:18:160:18:18

Keen to warm up, the Reds are also heading inside.

0:18:180:18:21

-Anything you see, Alice?

-Mmm...

0:18:240:18:26

-There is lots of glitzy stuff.

-There's lots of glitzy stuff.

0:18:280:18:31

-Shall we move on?

-Yeah.

-Yeah?

0:18:330:18:35

Home-made Seville orange and ginger marmalade.

0:18:350:18:38

That sounds quite nice, actually.

0:18:380:18:40

Erm, Thomas, shouldn't you be antique shopping?

0:18:400:18:43

-Bit of marmalade!

-Yeah.

0:18:460:18:47

Whilst Thomas is distracted, Caroline is talking fashion.

0:18:490:18:53

I always spend a lot of money on clothes and I shouldn't do.

0:18:530:18:56

I'm like an old woman when it comes to clothes.

0:18:560:18:59

Are you? Have you got more wardrobe space than your wife?!

0:18:590:19:01

-I have, yeah.

-Ooh, that's annoying!

-I've got more shoes than my wife.

0:19:010:19:04

-Have you? No!

-I have, yeah.

-No!

-Yep.

-Ooh, I say!

0:19:040:19:09

I love shopping with you, but I wouldn't like to be married to you.

0:19:090:19:12

I couldn't fight over the wardrobe space!

0:19:120:19:13

Come on, teams, time's ticking.

0:19:130:19:17

That would have been a lovely clock.

0:19:180:19:20

Gorgeous thing.

0:19:200:19:21

It's so badly damaged.

0:19:210:19:23

-Yeah.

-Alabaster does crack so easily.

0:19:230:19:25

It's a bit, sort of, like a poor man's marble.

0:19:250:19:28

Oh, lovely thing!

0:19:280:19:29

-Yeah.

-What do you think about this?

0:19:290:19:31

-Oh, right, yes!

-I keep falling on these trunks.

-You're the trunk man.

0:19:330:19:37

The trunk man, apparently, yeah. I don't know what it is about them, I don't know.

0:19:370:19:41

Well, like I say, that is... You can keep stuff in it, it can be a coffee table, it's multi-use.

0:19:410:19:46

Yeah. It's got the original finish on it.

0:19:460:19:47

It's got the original finish on it.

0:19:470:19:49

-Do you want me to have a look inside?

-Yeah.

0:19:490:19:51

-Have a look inside, yeah.

-It's missing its lock.

0:19:510:19:55

-Yeah. Yeah, for me...

-Yeah, the lock's gone.

0:19:550:19:58

-No, for me.

-OK.

-And it's scrumbled.

0:19:580:20:00

-Waste of time looking at that. it's not for sale.

-Oh!

0:20:000:20:03

Bad luck, Reds!

0:20:050:20:06

Meanwhile, the Blues have spotted some silver.

0:20:080:20:10

-I wonder how much it is.

-What are you looking at?

0:20:120:20:16

-This one here?

-Yeah, and what do you think it is?

0:20:160:20:18

Erm, I'm not sure.

0:20:180:20:20

Well, pick it up and have a look, come on.

0:20:200:20:22

So, that's...going to be a cream, isn't it?

0:20:240:20:29

-Yeah.

-Or milk. Yeah?

0:20:290:20:31

What's the other thing, Anna? Do you want to pick that up?

0:20:310:20:34

-Have a look.

-Have a look. What would you put in there?

-Sugar?

0:20:340:20:37

Sugar, yeah, absolutely.

0:20:370:20:38

And so, what do you normally have with sugar and cream?

0:20:380:20:42

-Strawberries?!

-Strawberries, yeah.

0:20:420:20:45

-Strawberries.

-What does he say on his bumf here?

0:20:450:20:48

It says, "stunning, superb, solid silver, strawberry set,

0:20:480:20:51

"made in Lindisfarne silver..."

0:20:510:20:53

It's £399. You haven't got £399.

0:20:530:20:57

-We haven't got that.

-But you've got very close to it, though.

0:20:570:20:59

But it is solid silver. It's rather fun, actually.

0:20:590:21:02

-But you haven't got that sort of money.

-Quite a high price tag. No.

0:21:020:21:05

-You haven't got that.

-No. We haven't. We don't, at all.

-But you've got 280 quid.

0:21:050:21:11

-We have got 280 quid.

-You could do a deal.

0:21:110:21:13

You could see what his best offer is.

0:21:130:21:15

-OK.

-Remember, you've got to leave me a pound.

0:21:150:21:17

-OK.

-Or a fiver. So, there's something.

0:21:170:21:20

I think we should leave you with £5.

0:21:200:21:23

-Something.

-Shall we...?

-Why don't you go and have an ask?

0:21:230:21:25

-Yeah.

-And see, present him with that.

0:21:250:21:28

-Yeah.

-And, you know, don't be afraid to ask for, you know,

0:21:280:21:32

-a good discount.

-Yeah. OK.

0:21:320:21:34

Off you go, girls. So, what's the plan, Reds?

0:21:350:21:38

You know I was talking about maths earlier

0:21:400:21:42

and saying that we'd done two-thirds in a third of our time?

0:21:420:21:44

Well, now, we've had two-thirds of our time...

0:21:440:21:47

Okey dokey. So, we're on track.

0:21:470:21:48

-Yeah, we're on track now.

-We've got 20 minutes left...

-OK.

-We've got one item to buy.

0:21:480:21:52

-Excellent.

-What are your thoughts?

-Help!

-Yeah! Help! Yeah!

0:21:520:21:56

Now, how are the Blues getting on with their negotiations?

0:21:580:22:01

What is the, like, bottom, bottom line?

0:22:020:22:05

The bottom, bottom line!

0:22:050:22:07

Because we're restricted with what we have.

0:22:070:22:09

-Yeah, you...

-Go on, then, how much have you got?

0:22:090:22:11

-It's 275.

-Is what we've got left.

-Wow.

-Yes.

0:22:110:22:17

So, if I did it at 275, would you be happy?

0:22:190:22:23

-Yeah, we would.

-Yeah.

-OK, I will do that at 275.

0:22:230:22:27

-Will you actually?

-Yeah, absolutely.

-Oh, thank you!

-That's easy, isn't it?

-Yeah!

0:22:270:22:30

-I'm so easy to deal with.

-Thank you!

-Thank you ever so much, thank you.

0:22:300:22:33

Congratulations, Blues, that's all three items done and dusted.

0:22:330:22:37

Well done for getting such a massive discount.

0:22:370:22:39

-Thank you, yeah, brilliant.

-It's amazing, isn't it?

-It is.

-Do you know what...

-Thank you.

0:22:390:22:43

I need... I need more than a cup of tea.

0:22:430:22:46

-Yep.

-I need a piece of cake, as well.

-Let's go for it!

0:22:460:22:48

Now, come on, Reds, you have 15 minutes left to get that final buy.

0:22:500:22:54

To me, it looks from the '20s, '30s...

0:22:550:22:58

-Yeah, yep.

-But it has a very contemporary look to it.

0:22:580:23:00

-Yeah.

-Would look great today, wouldn't it, anywhere?

-Yes.

0:23:000:23:03

Ah, now, I think this might be plated.

0:23:030:23:06

-In fact, I can tell by feel, that's not silver, that's plate.

-OK.

0:23:060:23:11

Now, this is later altogether.

0:23:110:23:13

That will be late Victorian, I would say.

0:23:130:23:15

-Sure, yeah.

-Late 19th century.

0:23:150:23:17

This one, without looking up the marks,

0:23:170:23:20

-could you see they're a bit rubbed?

-Yep.

-Yeah.

-They're very rubbed.

0:23:200:23:24

-It's quite a modern one. It's 1980, I think, that one.

-1980, is it?

0:23:240:23:29

-Yes, quite late.

-It's been very well looked after...

0:23:290:23:32

-It's Garrard's. Yeah, it is Garrard's.

-Oh, right, so it's a great make.

-Yeah.

0:23:320:23:36

What's the desirable price on that one?

0:23:360:23:40

-Good sir!

-The best I could do on that is 75.

0:23:400:23:43

-As the gentleman...

-And that's the very, very, very...

0:23:430:23:46

That is the very best. Very best. I did have 100 on it.

0:23:460:23:49

75 is my best.

0:23:490:23:50

I mean, that is 1920s, this one here.

0:23:500:23:53

Yes, yeah. But it's plate, that one, is it?

0:23:530:23:55

-No, that's not.

-Is that one silver, as well?

0:23:550:23:58

Ooh, I didn't have my glasses properly.

0:23:580:24:00

-There you go.

-Oh, my goodness, yes, it is, yeah.

0:24:000:24:03

And that's goldsmiths and silversmiths.

0:24:030:24:05

-That is the gold cartouche on there.

-Yeah, ah...

-And a gilded little handle on it.

0:24:050:24:10

-That is beautiful.

-Yes.

-And how much is that?

0:24:100:24:13

-The best I could do on that is 100.

-100?

-I think with the ornate part,

0:24:130:24:17

it's got a bit more about it than that one.

0:24:170:24:19

-So we're going to put this one down?

-What do you think, Paul?

-Yeah. I think that one's the better one.

0:24:190:24:23

-You do?

-You wouldn't take a cheeky 90 for that one?

0:24:230:24:26

I'll do 95 and that's my absolute bottom.

0:24:270:24:29

-Yeah.

-I love that one.

-Yeah, that one for me.

-Is that a yes from both?

0:24:310:24:34

-Yeah.

-Yeah, definitely.

-Yes!

-Yes?

-Thank you.

-Thank you.

0:24:340:24:39

Great stuff. I'll wrap it up.

0:24:400:24:41

-Cheers.

-Well done, Reds, that's your three items in the bag.

0:24:410:24:45

WHISTLE BLASTING

0:24:450:24:47

Teams, your time's up!

0:24:470:24:49

We've got two silver items and the little China item.

0:24:490:24:52

-Yep.

-Haven't got anything musical.

0:24:520:24:54

-No. No.

-But you can always keep your plectrums in it!

0:24:540:24:56

-Absolutely, yeah.

-Definitely.

-Absolutely.

-Shall we go and find that hot choc?

0:24:560:24:59

Yeah, let's go and get it.

0:24:590:25:01

Let's see what the Reds bought.

0:25:010:25:02

First up, for £25, was this three-piece cottage tea set.

0:25:040:25:08

They snapped up a 1920s silver photo frame, at £16.

0:25:100:25:15

And finally, a silver box, for £95.

0:25:160:25:20

So, gentlemen, did you have a good time?

0:25:210:25:23

-We had a fantastic time.

-It's been fantastic, absolutely loved it.

0:25:230:25:27

So, you were very decisive.

0:25:270:25:28

I mean, you got your first two items in quick time, didn't you?

0:25:280:25:32

Very quick. Very, very quick.

0:25:320:25:33

Gave us that extra time to get that big third item, so...

0:25:330:25:36

-Yeah!

-So, what's your favourite item?

0:25:360:25:40

-Er, the silver box, the last item.

-And what about the item that you

0:25:400:25:43

think is going to give you the biggest profit?

0:25:430:25:45

-The silver picture frame.

-Right, OK.

0:25:450:25:48

-And same question?

-Yeah, I think the silver picture frame

0:25:480:25:51

will definitely, I think, make the most money.

0:25:510:25:53

Our favourite item was the silver box. It's just a quality piece.

0:25:530:25:56

So, how much did you spend?

0:25:560:25:58

We spent £136.

0:25:580:25:59

Which means you're going to given me £164.

0:25:590:26:03

£164, there we go.

0:26:030:26:04

OK. Being the remainder, which is with me for a very brief

0:26:040:26:08

moment in time. Straight into the hands of Caroline.

0:26:080:26:11

-Yes.

-Caroline, any idea what you're going to be spending that money on?

0:26:110:26:15

It all happened so quickly, I haven't seen anything.

0:26:150:26:18

But I'm going to try very hard to get you something good.

0:26:180:26:20

-OK.

-Good stuff.

-So, let's now find out what the Blue team bought.

0:26:200:26:24

This metal letter opener cost them £10.

0:26:260:26:29

Next, they pinched another bargain for £10,

0:26:320:26:34

with these plastic crustaceans.

0:26:340:26:36

And finally, they splashed out on something shiny,

0:26:380:26:40

with this silver jewellery set, costing them a whopping £275.

0:26:400:26:46

So, ladies, did we have fun?

0:26:460:26:48

-Yeah, absolutely.

-Yeah, we had loads of fun.

-You did, as well.

0:26:480:26:51

I have to say, you started off small-time.

0:26:510:26:53

-We did.

-But you ended up big-time!

0:26:530:26:56

-Yep. Yeah. It's fair to say.

-Yeah?

0:26:560:26:58

-Yeah.

-So, Anna, what's your favourite purchase?

0:26:580:27:01

I think my favourite purchase is definitely the three sea creatures.

0:27:010:27:06

Right, OK, and what do you think is going to give you

0:27:060:27:09

-the biggest profit?

-I think maybe the letter knife.

0:27:090:27:12

I think it's really, really beautiful and hopefully, other people will see that, too.

0:27:120:27:17

-Alice, what's your favourite item?

-Er, my favourite item is probably the letter opener,

0:27:170:27:21

just because I think it's really nice and detailed and interesting.

0:27:210:27:24

And I probably think that it'll make the most profit, as well.

0:27:240:27:27

So, how much did you spend, ladies?

0:27:270:27:29

-Er, we spent...£295.

-£5, please.

0:27:290:27:35

Thank you very much. Thomas, do what you can with a £5 note, if you will.

0:27:360:27:42

I love a fiver. It's such a great bargaining tool.

0:27:420:27:47

-Thanks, girls.

-So, while Thomas goes to spend his £5 note,

0:27:470:27:51

we're going off to the auction.

0:27:510:27:53

Well, we've literally popped around the corner to the Malvern saleroom.

0:28:030:28:08

And we're with the boss, the man himself, Mr Philip Serrell!

0:28:080:28:12

-So lovely to see you, Phil.

-Eric, great to see you, too.

0:28:120:28:15

Well, let's get down to business, let's start off with the Reds. This is Paul and Neil.

0:28:150:28:19

Their first lot is a group of cottage ware.

0:28:190:28:23

The demand for these has waned a little bit.

0:28:230:28:25

-Yep.

-I think it would have been a little bit better

0:28:250:28:28

if we could have had a teapot, a milk and a sugar.

0:28:280:28:32

We've got a bit of a mishmash of what we've got here.

0:28:320:28:34

I've might put an estimate on them of £20-£40.

0:28:340:28:36

-What did they pay?

-£25. So, they're in with a chance, aren't they?

0:28:360:28:39

Absolutely, yeah. In with a shout.

0:28:390:28:41

OK, what about the silver photo frame?

0:28:410:28:43

-That's the next item.

-Well, what can't speak can't lie

0:28:430:28:46

and it is what it is what it is, isn't it? I mean, it's just a little hallmarked silver frame.

0:28:460:28:51

I think we've put £10-£15 on it and that's based on metal value, really.

0:28:510:28:55

-Is that right?

-Yeah.

-So, they actually paid 16 for it, so...

0:28:550:29:01

-Yeah.

-Again, they're in with a sniff on that one.

0:29:010:29:03

Yeah, in with a shout, in with a shout.

0:29:030:29:04

All right. And finally, for the Reds,

0:29:040:29:07

we've got their silver cigarette box.

0:29:070:29:09

That just smells of quality, doesn't it?

0:29:090:29:12

-Mmm.

-It's a really good quality thing.

0:29:120:29:14

-Got a nice engine to it.

-Yeah. It's a really good thing.

0:29:140:29:16

I like that. Made just after the Second World War -

0:29:160:29:20

I think that's going to make £50-£80.

0:29:200:29:22

OK, well, they took a real chance on that one,

0:29:220:29:25

because they paid £95 for it.

0:29:250:29:28

So, having said all that, Phil, it looks as though this team is

0:29:280:29:32

going to be looking to its bonus buy.

0:29:320:29:34

So, let's find out exactly what it is.

0:29:340:29:37

Well, Paul and Neil, you left Caroline £164,

0:29:390:29:42

to go out and spend for the bonus buy.

0:29:420:29:44

Caroline, show 'em what you bought.

0:29:440:29:47

-Ah!

-Ooh!

-It's an ancient ashtray!

-It is NOT an ancient ashtray!

0:29:480:29:54

This is a lovely piece of Art Nouveau

0:29:540:29:57

and do you have any idea who made it?

0:29:570:29:59

-No idea.

-No idea, no idea.

0:29:590:30:02

WMF. This company specialised in Art Nouveau metalware.

0:30:020:30:06

This is an ink well.

0:30:060:30:08

-Ah.

-So, we lift that out, it's actually missing...

0:30:080:30:10

It will have had a little glass container in there.

0:30:100:30:12

-OK.

-And it's an interesting thing for people that collect either WMF,

0:30:120:30:18

Art Nouveau... It's a beautiful decorative thing.

0:30:180:30:21

-And how much did you pay for it?

-Ah! How much do you THINK I paid for it?

0:30:210:30:26

I reckon about 50, 60. It looks quite nice, up close.

0:30:260:30:31

Right. Good! You can get as close as you like!

0:30:310:30:34

-25.

-And how much do you think it might fetch at the old auction?

0:30:340:30:38

-I think it could get 45.

-Oh.

-OK.

0:30:380:30:42

Well, gentlemen, you don't have to make up your minds now.

0:30:420:30:45

You can wait until we're actually on-site.

0:30:450:30:47

But meanwhile, let's go and find out what our auctioneer has to say about

0:30:470:30:51

Caroline's bonus buy.

0:30:510:30:52

So, here's Caroline's bonus buy, Phil.

0:30:540:30:57

Nice little Art Nouveau, sort of, ink tray, isn't it, really?

0:30:580:31:00

-It is.

-WMF?

-WMF, yeah, the very same.

0:31:000:31:03

Shall I just plonk it down? Now, I can never get this right...

0:31:030:31:07

-WMF stands for...

-The Wurttembergische Metallwarenfabrik.

0:31:070:31:11

-Right, OK.

-OK, all right, but you know, WMF, for the sake of it.

0:31:110:31:16

Yeah, WMF. I like WMF a lot, lot better, Eric(!)

0:31:160:31:17

-You do, do you?

-Yeah, I do.

0:31:170:31:19

I quite like that. It's popular stuff and I think it's going to make

0:31:190:31:23

-between £30-£50.

-OK, well, that's good news,

0:31:230:31:26

because Caroline went and paid a mere £25 for it.

0:31:260:31:30

Right, Phil, that's it for the Reds. Erm, here's the Blues.

0:31:300:31:32

This is Anna and Alice

0:31:320:31:34

and I think it's fair to say these ladies think outside the box.

0:31:340:31:38

Absolutely right. I mean, fantastic. And what a variety.

0:31:380:31:43

Well, the first up, actually, is the paper knife.

0:31:430:31:46

Little paper knife, I mean, it is what it is.

0:31:460:31:50

I think it's going to make £5-£10.

0:31:500:31:52

Oh! Well, they paid ten for it, so, you know,

0:31:520:31:55

let's keep fingers crossed on that one.

0:31:550:31:57

-Yeah.

-Second up is the crayfish, it's the lobster, it's the crab,

0:31:570:32:03

-I mean...

-Inspirational, Eric.

-Crustacea Are Us!

0:32:030:32:06

We toyed with the idea of putting these on the front cover

0:32:060:32:08

-of the catalogue. I mean, I just love them to bits.

-Right.

-I think they're going to make £20-£40.

0:32:080:32:12

-Oh!

-What did they pay for those?

-That's happy days are here again,

0:32:120:32:15

because they paid a tenner for the three.

0:32:150:32:18

-Really?

-So, yeah, that's... We'll be watching that one very carefully.

0:32:180:32:22

-That's good, that's good.

-But now, we've got the silver strawberry set

0:32:220:32:27

-in its original case.

-Well, if you want to buy quality,

0:32:270:32:30

this just is... it's fantastic quality.

0:32:300:32:32

You've got this, sort of, Lindisfarne...

0:32:320:32:34

It's all based on the silver that was produced at Lindisfarne.

0:32:340:32:37

-Mm-hmm.

-I love this band around here.

0:32:370:32:40

We've put £100-£150 on it, so we're quite bullish about that,

0:32:400:32:44

-we think.

-Well, the girls were even more bullish,

0:32:440:32:47

because they went out and spent a stonking £275, Phil, on that.

0:32:470:32:53

# There may be trouble ahead... #

0:32:530:32:55

There may well be trouble ahead!

0:32:550:32:57

But it looks like they maybe need that bonus buy,

0:32:570:33:00

so let's find out what Thomas bought for the Blues.

0:33:000:33:04

Well, a pair of big spenders, hey?!

0:33:050:33:09

What do we say?!

0:33:090:33:11

How much did we spend there, come on?!

0:33:110:33:13

Er, we... We went for it.

0:33:130:33:14

We spent £295.

0:33:140:33:17

And you gave Tom here, our man of the moment, such a challenge!

0:33:170:33:22

I mean, you go round the pound stalls, and you think, no,

0:33:220:33:26

I can't buy you something for a pound, I really can't.

0:33:260:33:29

But I managed to spend it...

0:33:290:33:30

-Brilliant.

-Yeah, lovely!

-..all!

0:33:300:33:32

Here we are, girls.

0:33:320:33:34

So, these are a pair of Georgian-style shoe buckles

0:33:340:33:38

-in marcasite.

-Oh.

-They're rather fun, aren't they?

0:33:380:33:41

-They are, yeah.

-They look really nice.

-Can you see them on your shoes?

0:33:410:33:44

-Yeah, definitely.

-Yeah?

-Yeah, 100%.

-Sparkle everything up. Now, these cost me £5.

0:33:440:33:49

-That's a bargain.

-They were marked up a lot more,

0:33:490:33:51

-but I managed to do a deal.

-Brilliant.

-Fantastic.

0:33:510:33:54

-Yeah?

-So, how much do you think they're going to make at auction?

0:33:540:33:56

-They're definitely going to double.

-OK, brill.

-Definitely going to double.

-Excellent.

0:33:560:34:00

There's lots of people who collect these shoe buckles out there and there's jewellery collectors, etc.

0:34:000:34:05

But I think these have got a very fair chance. And I love the fiver challenge.

0:34:050:34:09

-Excellent, you're welcome.

-We had complete faith in you.

-Thank you!

0:34:090:34:13

Well, as always, you don't have to make your decision until you've sold

0:34:130:34:16

your full three items.

0:34:160:34:17

But in the meantime, let's find out what our auctioneer has to say about

0:34:170:34:21

charming Tom's Georgian shoe buckles.

0:34:210:34:23

-There you go.

-They're lovely, aren't they?

0:34:250:34:27

-They are, aren't they?

-Yeah. And they're a proper Thomas Plant lot.

0:34:270:34:31

-Why do you say that?

-Well, because Thomas likes his bling, doesn't he?

0:34:310:34:34

-Does he really?

-Well, he's known in the trade as Thomas "Bling" Plant,

0:34:340:34:38

isn't he? Did you not know that?

0:34:380:34:39

-No!

-Oh, yeah, yeah.

-No, I'm a new boy, remember!

-Thomas "Bling" Plant.

0:34:390:34:42

-OK.

-I think those are really nice, actually.

0:34:420:34:44

-Yeah.

-Little polished steel buckles in the Georgian style -

0:34:440:34:47

I think they're going to make £10-£20.

0:34:470:34:49

OK. Well, he went out and he spent five quid.

0:34:490:34:53

Good old Thomas. Or Bling, as we call him.

0:34:530:34:56

Not bad. So, we've got a few interesting lots coming up here.

0:34:560:34:59

-I think so. We got a real variety, haven't we?

-Yeah. Are you going to be taking the sale?

0:34:590:35:03

-I am, indeed. Looking forward.

-OK. Brace yourself, everybody.

0:35:030:35:06

Serrell's up there with his gavel!

0:35:060:35:09

Any more? At £50...

0:35:110:35:13

You've been to an auction before?

0:35:170:35:18

-No, not at all.

-First timers?!

0:35:180:35:20

-First timers, yeah.

-So, exciting stuff, yeah?

0:35:200:35:24

-Oh, yes. Very.

-So, you're up for this, aren't we? We're up for it.

0:35:240:35:27

And so, too, is your first lot, because it's coming up now.

0:35:270:35:31

It's the cottage ware, OK?

0:35:310:35:33

-Yep.

-And so, you paid £25 for this lot.

0:35:330:35:37

So, coming up now...

0:35:370:35:39

Internet's got ten. 10 bid.

0:35:390:35:40

-At 10, 10 bid, £10. Is there any more?

-Yes, come on!

-£10, I'm bid.

0:35:400:35:47

Maiden bid taking it, at £10. At ten. Ten bid. £10. Is there any more

0:35:470:35:51

at all? At £10, done, then. At ten, done, thank you.

0:35:510:35:56

Oh! So, £10. Not the best of starts, fellas, minus 15.

0:35:570:36:03

OK, your second lot's coming up, it's your little silver photo frame. Nice thing.

0:36:040:36:08

You paid £16 for that. You should make a profit. But either way, it's coming up now.

0:36:080:36:12

Who's got a tenner straight in?

0:36:120:36:14

Ten quickly. Ten, I'm bid straight in. £10. Ten bid, £10,

0:36:140:36:21

-be quick.

-Come on...

-At £10, there's the bid seated at ten.

0:36:210:36:23

10 bid. At £10. 15 if you like. At £10, anywhere at ten?

0:36:230:36:28

There's the bid. At £10 and I sell, then, at £10, and...

0:36:280:36:32

-thank you.

-This is not good, this is not good.

0:36:320:36:34

Oh! So, minus 6. And so we're minus 21

0:36:350:36:39

at the moment. So, your final lot, is your silver cigarette case.

0:36:390:36:43

-Well, you paid £95 for it.

-Yep.

-It's quality. Let's see where we go with this one.

0:36:430:36:48

Put it in the bidding, start me off, £50 straight off.

0:36:480:36:50

20 to go, someone.

0:36:500:36:52

I've got 70 on the net bid. I don't know where that's come from,

0:36:520:36:55

0:37:050:37:10

Here's the bid. At £90, and I sell, then, at 90 and done.

0:37:100:37:15

-Thank you!

-Oh, shame!

0:37:150:37:16

Shame! £90!

0:37:160:37:19

It gives you a minus of £26.

0:37:190:37:24

Now, are you going to go for the bonus buy?

0:37:240:37:26

That's what we need know.

0:37:260:37:28

-We're definitely going to...

-Absolutely going for it, definitely.

0:37:280:37:31

OK, it's your WMF inkwell. Paid the princely sum of £25, Caroline.

0:37:310:37:36

-I did, indeed.

-If this doesn't make a profit, then...

0:37:360:37:40

-This is definitely going to be the winner.

-We can start eating hats.

0:37:400:37:42

Who's got a tenner, quickly? Ten, anywhere. At 10, 12, 15...

0:37:440:37:48

0:37:590:38:03

Any more at all? At £35, seated, I can barely see you.

0:38:030:38:07

At £35, and done, then, at 35, done, thank you!

0:38:070:38:11

Oh, 35!

0:38:110:38:14

Oh, a £10 profit!

0:38:140:38:16

Listen, fellas, it's not that desperate.

0:38:160:38:19

You're only minus £16.

0:38:190:38:21

Oh, that's it!

0:38:210:38:22

All's well, that ends well.

0:38:220:38:24

Well, we'll find out later, won't we?

0:38:240:38:26

-Yep.

-OK, it's a well-worn line, but not a word to the Blues, OK?

0:38:260:38:31

-Absolutely.

-Not a word.

0:38:310:38:34

Been to an auction before?

0:38:340:38:38

-No.

-No, I haven't.

-No!

0:38:380:38:40

-First time.

-Very exciting.

-It is exciting, isn't it?

0:38:400:38:42

We've been doing this for donkeys' years, but we still get excited,

0:38:420:38:45

-don't we?

-Exactly, you still get really, really excited.

0:38:450:38:47

OK. Well, your first item is coming up, it's the paper knife,

0:38:470:38:50

you paid £10 for it, and it's coming up now.

0:38:500:38:53

Who's got a tenner to start me, quickly...?

0:38:530:38:56

£10, cheap seats.

0:38:560:38:57

The coffee is dearer than...

0:38:570:38:59

Oh, 10, I'm bid at 10.

0:38:590:39:00

10 bid, at £10, any bid at 10.

0:39:000:39:02

At £10, any bid at 10.

0:39:030:39:05

This is for nothing. At £10, it's your bid, seated at 10.

0:39:050:39:08

10 bid. Any more?

0:39:080:39:10

-Come on!

-At £10, and I sell, then, at 10, and done, thank you.

0:39:100:39:15

OK, well, you're breaking even.

0:39:150:39:18

Paid £10 for it.

0:39:180:39:20

Right, second lot coming up, it's the crustacea,

0:39:200:39:23

the plastic crab and the lobster and the langoustine or whatever.

0:39:230:39:27

You paid £10 for the three.

0:39:270:39:30

-We did.

-Here it comes.

-Lot number 236, the crab,

0:39:300:39:33

the lobster and the crayfish, I think these are brilliant,

0:39:330:39:35

who's got 30 quid, a tenner each?

0:39:350:39:38

Who's got a tenner?

0:39:380:39:40

Won't go any lower, 10, I'm bid at 10.

0:39:400:39:42

10 bid, £10, at 10, 15...

0:39:420:39:45

-Go on!

-15, 20.

0:39:450:39:47

20 bid. 20 bid.

0:39:470:39:49

-At £20.

-Double your money.

0:39:490:39:51

These have come from Brixham... At £20 only. ..he lied.

0:39:510:39:55

At 20, it's your bid seated.

0:39:550:39:57

At £20, and I sell, then, at 20 and done, thank you!

0:39:570:40:01

-Brilliant.

-20!

0:40:010:40:03

-Double your money!

-Double your money!

0:40:030:40:06

Well done!

0:40:060:40:08

OK, so... All right, well, we are in a plus £10 scenario here, OK?

0:40:080:40:12

So, your final lot is the strawberry set.

0:40:120:40:15

£275 invested, you might say.

0:40:150:40:18

Well, let's see if it's going to give you a return,

0:40:180:40:21

let's see if we can get that profit, because it's coming up now.

0:40:210:40:23

Put a bid in, start me off, £150 to start me.

0:40:230:40:26

150.

0:40:260:40:28

Well, I've got £80, bid at 80, 80 bid, at 80.

0:40:280:40:31

80 bid, at 80, 90...

0:40:310:40:33

90 bid, 100 with me.

0:40:330:40:34

At 100, net's out.

0:40:340:40:36

At £100, and any bid? Is there any more at all?

0:40:360:40:38

No money at all for it, really.

0:40:380:40:40

At £100, bid's with me on the book.

0:40:400:40:42

At £100, and I sell, then, at 100, and done.

0:40:420:40:47

-Thank you!

-That's terrible.

0:40:470:40:49

It's not good!

0:40:490:40:50

-Terrible.

-Well, the way that works out, we just made £175 minus.

0:40:500:40:54

And we were already £10 ahead, so we're in a minus 165 situation.

0:40:540:41:00

-That's really good.

-Yep, that's really good.

0:41:000:41:03

Yes. OK, all right, well, you know, you can lead these horses to water,

0:41:030:41:07

but you can't make them drink.

0:41:070:41:09

Having said that, let's talk bonus buy.

0:41:090:41:12

It's going to make it all back.

0:41:120:41:13

-Yeah?

-Yeah. Yeah.

-I believe in the bonus buy.

-We believe in you, Thomas.

0:41:130:41:16

Yeah, they do, yeah. Now, remember, Thomas paid £5 for this,

0:41:160:41:19

-this pair of buckles.

-Absolutely.

0:41:190:41:21

And they're coming up now.

0:41:210:41:23

Tenner each, 20 to go.

0:41:230:41:25

Who's got a tenner for the two?

0:41:250:41:27

This is no money. £10 for the two.

0:41:270:41:29

I'll lend you a fiver and take you at 10.

0:41:290:41:31

At 10 bid, at 10 only, at 10. 10 bid, £10.

0:41:310:41:34

At £10, I'm only bid at 10.

0:41:340:41:36

10 bid, here's the bid.

0:41:360:41:37

At £10, and I sell, then, at 10, and done.

0:41:370:41:40

Thank you!

0:41:400:41:42

-Yeah, we clawed back £5!

-I think that's brilliant.

0:41:420:41:46

So, plus £5, it takes you down to a minus 160.

0:41:460:41:49

But don't despair, ladies.

0:41:490:41:50

Don't despair!

0:41:500:41:52

These can be winning scores, as you know, Tom.

0:41:520:41:55

So, er... You know what I'm going to say next, don't you?

0:41:550:41:59

Not a word to the Reds.

0:41:590:42:01

Well, it was a school of hard knocks for both teams today, wasn't it?

0:42:070:42:11

-Certainly was.

-It's just that some got more knocks than others.

0:42:110:42:14

Erm, that's the truth of the matter.

0:42:140:42:17

So, the team that took the hardest knocks today, I have to tell you,

0:42:170:42:22

is the Blue team.

0:42:220:42:24

-Oh!

-Sorry, ladies!

0:42:240:42:25

I'm so sorry!

0:42:250:42:27

With a minus 160, it wasn't your day, was it?

0:42:270:42:31

-No.

-But you've enjoyed yourselves - please say, "Yes, Eric."

0:42:310:42:34

Yeah, absolutely.

0:42:340:42:36

-Good.

-We had a great time.

-Excellent, well, well done all the same,

0:42:360:42:39

well done you, Tom, anyway.

0:42:390:42:40

But Reds, what do I say?

0:42:400:42:42

You're looking a bit smug.

0:42:420:42:43

-Oh, yeah!

-It's been...

-Even though you were minus 16!

0:42:430:42:46

OK. So, there's no point putting your hand out for money,

0:42:460:42:49

you're not going to get any money whatsoever.

0:42:490:42:52

But well done, Caroline, anyway. And again, enjoy it?

0:42:520:42:55

Brilliant, loved every minute.

0:42:550:42:57

-Loved it, brilliant.

-That's all we really want to hear.
