-the history of the school...

-..and have a taster

-of last night's special concert.

-It started in 1951 with a class on

-a Saturday at the school in Rhymney.

-Most of the people were teachers

-or linked with local chapels...

-..such as Reverend Rhys Bowen

-from Moriah Chapel.

-They wanted to make sure that young

-people learnt the Welsh language.

-They opened the class

-on a Saturday morning...

-..because most of the children

-had been sent to English schools...

-..but they managed to get 15 pupils

-in a class in the English school.

-The school grew and the school

-that was in Goshen Street...

-..became a solely

-Welsh medium school.

-It moved to this building or

-The Lawn which is Welsh for Lawnt.

-It was a former Victorian house.

-I play Child 2 out of three children

-who learn the school's history.

-I play Mr Chairman.

-He persuades the parents

-to have another English school...

-..but the parents

-want a Welsh school.

-I play the headmaster and

-am proud to be able to speak Welsh.

-My character is Miss Jones.

-She's a Year 4 teacher

-and teaches the choir too.

-I've been really nervous

-but am proud to have smashed it!

-What are you most excited about?

-Eating the cake!

-I'm a former pupil of the school...

-..and Mam, or Heulwen Williams

-became head teacher of the school.

-How did it feel to see the children

-performing your songs tonight?

-I was delighted

-but it brought a tear to my eye...

-..to see the children singing about

-the future of the language.

-The concert was wonderful.

-the head teacher of Ysgol y Lawnt.

-It's an honour to be the head

-of the school at this time.

-The Welsh language means a great

-deal to me.

-The staff and pupils have worked

-hard to prepare the concert.

-How proud are you that people speak

-Welsh in the area?

-I'm very proud that so many people

-speak Welsh.

-My children and grandchildren

-have all attended the school.

-I am very proud.

-Dilys Williams is a former pupil

-and the school's deputy-head.

-I was a pupil at the school

-in the early days.

-I loved it here.

-Mrs Walls was

-the headmistress at the time.

-She was inspirational.

-The building was very different.

-We had a foundation of education

-that was solid and fun.

-The school would go out

-into the community.

-It brought the language

-into the community.

-I feel very fortunate to have been

-part of it.

-Everyone is dressed up

-for the party.

-In addition to Owain Gwynedd's tomb,

-there is also a memorial stone.

-I think it's interesting how we now

-remember our princes...

-..especially Llywelyn II.

-These days, the memorial at Cilmeri

-is most widely associated...

-..with Llywelyn II.

-It was erected in 1956 using stone

-from the quarry in Trefor.

-It is made of granite and that

-is representative...

-..of the strength of the nation

-and the stone it is carved from.

-The memorial at the Marble Hall

-in Cardiff City Hall...

-..is very different again.

-That was carved by Henry Pegram and

-unveiled in 1916.

-The marble has a smooth fluidity

-but the upheld fist...

-..appears to be a more modern symbol

-of nationalism.

-It is part of Cymdeithas Yr Iaith's

-symbolism.

-They are both fitting memorials

-to Llywelyn II.

-Many people over the years have used

-the title Llywelyn The Last Prince..

-..to describe Llywelyn II.

-Personally, I'm delighted that the

-title Llywelyn II is used more now.

-In the first place, he was not the

-last prince of Wales...

-..as he was succeeded

-by his brother, Dafydd.

-Secondly, it's important to note

-the continuation of the line.

-The idea of a princedom had been

-around for a century and a half.

-Six men had held the title and

-we see that idea of succession...

-..when we look at Llywelyn I,

-Dafydd and Llywelyn II.

-Owain Gwynedd and Llywelyn II's

-coats of arms hang in the cathedral.

-A host of events are being held

-correct measurements for drinks?

-Welcome to the programme, Alison.

-It's important to have

-some common sense, Alison.

-They have measurements

-at restaurants.

-It's very different at home.

-When you go out to a restaurant,

-the measures are on the price list.

-We want to have a nice time

-but it's easy to over-indulge.

-Measures used to be 125ml for wine.

-That's a small glass of wine

-these days.

-We are advised to drink 2-3 units

-as a maximum.

-We are now seeing our drinks sizes

-increasing.

-We have bowls of white wine

-these days!

-I don't think we have small glasses.

-The 125ml would look lost

-in a glass like this.

-One glass is almost 3 units

-in a restaurant now.

-Three glasses is the equivalent

-of a whole bottle.

-That's 10 units of alcohol.

-A traditional pint of beer

-was 2 units.

-The stronger ales can be

-as much as 4 units per pint.

-They add up quite quickly.

-Foreign beers

-can be very high in units.

-Ask the bar staff

-when you're ordering.

-You can buy the measures

-to use at home.

-About 50ml is two units for spirits.

-Some 25ml is a single unit.

-Drinking at home is very different.

-If you drink at home

-you have to watch the volume.

-Pour a shot as you would at home.

-That's how much gin you would pour.

-I think that would be a quadruple.

-That's quite a common mistake.
