-She's put it on her list

-and hopes to have one for Christmas.

-We're delighted with Seren

-as it's a Welsh toy with songs.

-I've been singing to him at home,

-Seren comes with different shapes

-so it's also educational.

-have agreed with us...

-..that there's a need for a toy

-like this on the market.

-It's a wonderful feeling to see

-other children playing with it.

-As well as being the Advent season,

-tonight marks the start...

-..of the Jewish festival, Chanukah.

-It's the Hebrew word

-for rededicate...

-..and will be celebrated

-over the next eight days...

-..with the lighting of

-a candle every day.

-Yvonne has the details.

-Chanukah is the Festival of Light.

-Just like Christmas,

-it takes place in the winter.

-It's a merry festival

-that lasts eight days.

-What's the origin of the festival?

-A Jewish rebellion was led by

-a leader called Judas Maccabeus.

-Chanukah dates back to the Bible's

-inter-testament period.

-It's described in the books that are

-sometimes excluded from the Bible.

-The books talk about the restoration

-of Jewish worship at the temple...

-..and the lighting

-of sacred candles.

-There isn't any mention of a miracle

-in these early scriptures.

-In later adaptations, the Jewish

-soldiers lit candles in the temple.

-There was only enough oil to

-keep the candles alight for a day...

-..but they miraculously burned

-for eight days.

-That's why we see candlesticks

-with eight branches...

-..just like the one

-found in this Synagogue.

-It's rather convenient that Chanukah

-often coincides with Christmas.

-Chanukah is a happy festival.

-There will be services

-held in the Synagogue...

-..and celebrations in homes

-where families will come together.

-Ah, the poinsettia.

-It's one of the most popular plants

-to give and receive at Christmas...

-..thanks to its striking red colour.

-To retain its red hue...

-..the plant needs 14 hours of

-darkness every day for two months.

-It also needs plenty of sunlight

-to develop a bright colour.

-There are different varieties

-that come in shades of red, pink...

-..orange, light green,

-cream and white.

-Poinsettia's are considered

-house plants in Britain...

-..as frost can kill the flower.

-In Mexico, they're found in the wild

-and can grow to over twelve feet.

-The plant's Christmas connection

-dates back to the 16th Century.

-In Mexico, there's a folk tale

-about a poor little girl...

-..who couldn't afford a gift

-to celebrate the birth of Christ.

-She was inspired by an angel to

-collect weeds from the roadside...

-..and present them

-before the altar in a church.

-The weeds soon began to flower
