-Tonight, we meet another finalist in

-the form of Bella from Betws-y-Coed.

-Gwynedd Council has chosen

-to celebrate the Year of Legends...

-..by commissioning a six-metre-tall

-sword for the banks of Llyn Padarn.

-It remembers the tales of the Welsh

-Princes but it needed a name.

-The pupils of Dolbadarn

-Primary School are perplexed...

-..as they need a name for the giant

-sword on the banks of Llyn Padarn.

-They worked with Radio Cymru

-to try and reach a decision.

-Good luck to you.

-The eight pupils in the

-school council will name the sword.

-We ran the campaign on Aled's

-morning show on BBC Radio Cymru.

-The public has been asked

-to devise some names...

-..and the children

-will choose the name today.

-At the moment,

-we're trying to name the sword...

-..that will sit next to Dolbadarn

-Castle and attract tourists.

-We had a lot of names

-and whittled it down to 18 names.

-I enjoy the tension and it's fun

-to choose this important name.

-Some of the names

-include Gwenllian...

-..as well as the Blade of the Welsh

-and Swordface and Alwyn!

-We've had a great response

-and didn't know what to expect.

-How on earth do you name a sword?

-We had names from across Wales

-to celebrate our Welsh Princes.

-I wouldn't want to be in the school

-council as it's a difficult choice.

-It was also very difficult

-to make the sword...

-..and a blacksmith from Pandy Tudur

-was given that important task.

-The sword will stand twelve foot

-out of the ground.

-It's just like

-a giant ancient sword.

-It looks as if it's rusted

-so will sit well in the landscape.

-The iron is suitable

-for being outdoors.

-The pupils of Dolbadarn Primary

-School are trying to find a name.

-Do you have any preferences?

-I'd like a traditional and Celtic

-name to suit the period it conveys.

-I'm sure the children of Dolbadarn

-will make the right decision.

-Back in the school and after hours

-of discussion, they made a decision.

-We spent a few hours

-scratching our heads...

-..but the seven of us did finally

-reach a decision and it is...

-Wait a moment, Charlie as we need a

-proper ceremony to reveal the name.

-Three, two, one.

-Llafn y Cewri or the Legends' Blade.

-We had 40 different names...

-..but chose Llafn y Cewri as it came

-from a person from Dolwyddelan.

-Llafn means blade and we have

-a lot of legends in the area.

-Llywelyn, our Last Leader and Owain

-Glyndwr are legendary figures too.

-People don't think of the castle

-in Dolbadarn but think of Snowdon.

-They know about Caernarfon Castle

-but don't know about our history.

-We're delighted that our school

-got to choose the name.

-..who came up with the name of

-Llafn y Cewri or the Legends' Blade.

-I met Sanjeev and he persuaded me to

-The BBC contacted me.

-I asked him about it.

-I'm glad to say that he's shown

-in a positive light.

-That was fantastic...

-..to see people get their pride back

-after being laid off for two years.

-Once we were up and running,

-they came back in...

-..the floodgates were opened

-and we had a big event to celebrate.

-It's an Indian tradition to pay for

-the first meal of your employees...

-..once they start work again.

-It was pretty special to be part

-of that and quite heart-warming.

-a very different world.

-Yes, that's right.

-Every day is different.

-His diary can change overnight.

-He can fly from Hong Kong and change

-his mind and go to Australia!

-I deal with helicopters and pilots.

-He's spent a lot of time in Dubai

-He's just moved to Australia.

-I have to deal with a different time

-zone.

-I speak to him for all hours

-of the day.

-Thursday at 7.00pm marks the climax

-of S4C's Month of Legends...

-..when we reveal the winner of our

-competition to find the new Gelert.

-First, let's meet the ninth finalist

-in our competition called Bella.

-Bella was born eleven years ago

-to this week.

-She's done a lot of travelling

-for such a small dog.

-She was born in Milan

-in a school room...

-..where the caretaker

-and his son lived.

-Bella's mother had nine puppies.

-Bella's mother had seven puppies.

-A friend's daughter

-taught in that school.

-Caroline took her in as she loved

-her and took her from Milan to Rome.

-In Rome, she would travel to school

-with her in a basket on a bike.

-After that, she left Rome to live in

-France before flying her to London.

-Following that,

-she was taken to Anglesey.

-She thoroughly enjoyed herself

-in every place.

-Caroline's mother asked us to

-take her because my dog had died.

-She's great company and very funny.

-One night, I was making spaghetti

-and there was some left...

-..so she had some and loved it.

-She must have had some in Italy.

-She's a lovely a dog and everyone

-loves Bella with her great ears.

-She's a Heinz57 variety

-so she's worth her weight in gold.

-Aww!

-I think the judges will struggle

-to choose a winner.

-Do you have a dog, Amanda?

-Yes, I had a wonderful dog

-called Guinness.

-She was from a dog's home.

-She was a wonderful dog.

-I haven't had a dog since then.

-She was 14 when she died.

-Merched y Wawr has been celebrating

-its 50th anniversary this year.

-Alun Cairns, the Secretary of State

-for Wales invited them to London...

-..to celebrate at Gwydr House in the

-heart of the Houses of Parliament.

-It's an incredible at Gwydr House

-with its gold walls and carpet.

-The room is decorated for the golden

-anniversary of Merched y Wawr.

-Merched y Wawr has done so much for

-our language, various charities...

-..and in terms of supporting

-policies about the language.

-Merched y Wawr has done so much

-in the last 50 years.

-You're no stranger to Gwydr House

-because you're Alun Cairns' mother!

-How long have you been a member

-of Merched y Wawr?

-I joined in 1967 when it started.

-Why did you join?

-My mother was a member of Merched

-y Wawr and I had to go with her.

-Alun invited me and said I could

-bring a friend but I brought four!

-We've had so many highlights.

-We have 3,000 events every year

-but they are exceptional this year.

-It started with our

-fun quiz a year ago...

-..followed by the Winter Fair,

-Eisteddfod and Royal Welsh Show.

-We had something special

-at each of those large events...

-..including the presenting of the

-Crown at the National Eisteddfod...

-..where former presidents

-told us their story.

-I was president of Merched y Wawr

-and now lead its heritage project.

-It's been a busy and pleasurable

-year that has been full of pride.

-We've shown the world our pride

-in being part of Merched y Wawr.

-It's a bitter-sweet event for us...

-..as Sandra, our current president,

-has been taken ill during the year.

-All the members who are in London

-and across Wales...

-..wish her a speedy recovery.

-Everybody in our community such as

-Merched y Wawr needs new blood...

-..and that's the challenge

-for the future.

-I can say my mother

-and mother-in-law are members...

-..but want to say my wife

-and daughters will be members too.

-Merched y Wawr needs to attract

-new members to succeed.

-I hope this 50th anniversary has

-helped them to spread their message.

-As a Londoner, what are your hopes

-for Merched y Wawr in the city?

-I live here and don't get the chance

-to return to my branch in Cilcennin.

-I'd love to have a branch in London.

-People have been talking

-about it today.

-Let's hope we can put that into

-practice in the coming weeks.

-Despite living in London, you still

-come home to help your community.

-I was in Penygroes on Friday.

-I was home to raise money for a

-cancer charity.

-It was a great night.

-I was glad to be home.

-The number of cyclists on our roads

-has increased in recent years.

-The Ystwyth Cycling Club

-is one of our oldest clubs...

-..and is marking a milestone

-this year.

-In the early 1950s, some cyclists

-in Aberystwyth set up a club...

-..that would meet once a week.

-It's 65 years later

-and the club is thriving...

-..with over 200 members

-of varying ability.

-As far as I'm aware, a group of

-cyclists met one night in 1952...

-..and formed

-the Ystwyth Cycling Club.

-I joined in 1958 as I owned a bike

-and wanted to do some time trials.

-I did just that before I did some

-road racing the following year.

-I remember the time

-when we had less than ten members...

-..and we battled

-to keep the club afloat.

-Thankfully, we survived and I'm glad

-that it's a successful club.

-Many events have been held to

-mark the club's 65th anniversary...

-..including a 65-mile-ride from

-Aberystwyth to Lampeter and back...

-..and a special dinner

-for its members.

-Summit Cycles in the town

-has some jerseys and photographs...

-..telling the story of the club

-through the decades.

-The first three on the left are mine

-and I raced in those.

-I was given the others

-by some of the members...

-..who know that I have an interest

-in the club's history.

-There wasn't a specific date

-to mark the start of the club.

-We organized a year of celebrations

-to mark 65 years of the club.

-The pinnacle of it

-is the exhibition.

-The club is marking 65 years...

-..and it's an honour to exhibit

-their jerseys and photographs.

-Joe, the owner, told me that he

-started cycling because of the club.

-He now owns this shop

-and sponsors the club.

-The club has organized races

-in the town for many years...

-..but the Aberystwyth Cycle Festival

-has attracted many professionals...

-..as well as amateurs of all ages

-and abilities.

-The Aberystwyth Cycle Festival

-has transformed the town...

-..and there's races with basic

-balance bikes up to the Tour Series.

-There's also something in the middle

-for amateur cyclists.

-The club has produced a whole

-host of successful cyclists.

-In the mid 1960s, Ken Evans

-and Glyn Evans represented Wales...

-..in many international races.

-They were the first club members

-to do that.

-Stevie Williams and Gruff Lewis

-are both professional cyclists.

-It's helped to encourage young men

-and women to join the club.

-Thanks to the hard work

-of all the members...

-..the future looks bright

-for the Ystwyth Cycling Club.
