-Today, our menu

-is packed with canapes.

-I've got some cheese

-and tomato biscuits.

-These can be made now...

-..and frozen ready for Christmas.

-The Prynhawn Da chefs have started

-the Christmas preparations.

-It's good to prepare beforehand...

-..especially when Christmas

-is in the question.

-We've got some plain flour,

-butter and an egg.

-Bring it all together.

-These are the ingredients

-for any plain biscuits.

-Add about 40g of parmesan cheese.

-I've also got some

-sun-dried tomato paste.

-I made this myself.

-But you can buy it in the shop.

-It's similar to a pesto.

-This is quite wet at the start...

-..but the flour will absorb

-all the liquid.

-It's similar to bread...

-..because you want to knead

-this well.

-These are going to make

-some great biscuits.

-I've also got some poppy seeds.

-These will also make for

-a drier mixture.

-you could serve them

-before your Christmas dinner.

-You can eat them at any time.

-These are great for a party too.

-You can freeze

-the mixture beforehand...

-..after chopping the

-shapes of the biscuits.

-You can remove them

-and cook as many as you need.

-They will only take a few minutes

-longer to cook...

-..when they are frozen.

-These are baked at

-180 degrees Celsius...

-..or about gas mark 3 or 4.

-These need to be quite firm

-when you remove them from the oven.

-I forget to glaze them with egg

-and some sesame seeds.

-These also add some texture.

-It's Friday 13 which is meant

-to be an unlucky day for some.

-has been associated with bad luck.

-The superstitions stem from a

-mixture of religion and paganism.

-It was also a Friday that Adam

-and Eve ate from the Forbidden Tree.

-On a Friday, workers were forced to

-finish building the Tower of Babel.

-is no different to any other day.

-I don't put new shoes on the table.

-If you break a mirror,

-it's seven years of bad luck.

-One of the most famous Christian

-scenes is that of the Last Supper...

-..which has been immortalized

-in Leonardo da Vinci's painting.

-It's also significant that

-the Last Supper was on a Friday.

-Judas Iscariot was the 13th person.

-If I spill any salt, I have to

-throw some over my left shoulder.

-Superstition is a load of nonsense.

-They say touching wood

-is a way of avoiding bad luck.

-The tradition of doing so

-is still strong today.

-The pagan people believed

-that spirits lived in the trees...

-of preventing the bad spirits.

-because my faith takes care of me!

-the textiles artist, Cynth Weyman.

-Cynth Weyman has had a varied

-and successful career.

-She's taught art and worked on

-art projects for the disabled...

-..and has recently opened

-her own gallery.

-Her striking, colourful images

-are made from layers of fabric...

-..inspired by Pembrokeshire and her

-life and colours of the Far East.

-What was your motivation for opening

-a gallery at this time of your life?

-It's all inspiration and some of

-my friends think that I'm bonkers!

-But I was inspired and the gallery

-is called Inspired 2 Collect.

-Cynth Weyman's career has taken her

-from a Carmarthenshire farm...

-..to North England, India

-and back again.

-The gallery is a celebration

-of her experiences and handiwork.

-You're a farmer's daughter so

-I assume you used your hands a lot.

-In those days, I wouldn't have

-clothes if I didn't sew them.

-I had to make my school uniform too.

-At college, I made clothes

-for Marks and Spencer at Dewhurst.

-I learnt a lot of did it for three

-months of the year for three years.

-I was able to share those tips

-with the pupils in the school.

-Did the textiles and images

-grow from that...

-..or have you always loved textiles?

-Everybody asks that question

-but both artforms go hand-in-hand.

-Where does the influence

-of all the bright colours come from?

-I've been to India many times

-and have family in the country.

-When I visit them, they take me

-in a rickshaw to find the colours...

-..and some top quality silk.

-It's the silk used in wedding gowns

-and they walk miles for it.

-The silk scarves are a welcome

-development from the art.

-Christmas is a month away so visit

-..to find a unique gift this year.

-It's been a bumper year with five

-exhibitions as well as the gallery.

-They were two large events in St

-Davids and at the National Assembly.

-Congratulations on the gallery

-and for an amazing career to date.

-is certainly worth a visit.

-I was hoping to reveal something.

-in this next recipe.

-The next canape is for

-blue cheese and fig tartlets.

-I will use filo pastry for this.

-I'll make the cases

-from the filo pastry.

-You can buy the pastry in the shops.

-Brush a section of the pastry

-with egg.

-Add another section

-in a different direction.

-Glaze it again with egg or butter.

-You make it look easy.

-Create a case by stuffing it

-into the baking tray.

-You only need some butter and egg

-to prepare this.

-The filling includes

-fresh or dried figs.

-We also have some onion marmalade.

-Place it on the bottom of the case.

-Sprinkle the cheese over the top.

-They take ten minutes to bake.

-I've got some that I made earlier.

-Serve them hot.

-The cheese has started to melt.

-You can then plate them up.

-You can serve these in the run up

-to Christmas.

-It's the perfect time to make them.

-You can get fresh figs

-in the supermarkets.

-The new season will start

-in December.

-I'm shocked by Tesco's response.

-It was too much bother for them.
