-Today, we're sampling various wines

-to enjoy on Christmas Day.

-We're joined by our wine steward,

-Welcome to the programme, Dylan.

-It's important to choose

-the right wine...

-..and prepare the wine properly.

-It's important

-that the wine is chilled...

-..and red wine

-is at room temperature.

-You have to prepare a claret

-and decant it.

-I'm trying to remove the sediment.

-Stand the bottle for several hours.

-Pour it slowly over the light.

-You'll see when the sediment

-starts coming out.

-You need to stop the sediment

-from pouring out.

-Mature wines have a lot of sediment.

-Small bits in the wine

-can be quite sour.

-I would use a domestic lamp

-to see through the bottle.

-You can see the sediment rising to

-the top of the neck of the bottle.

-The Chablis is a traditional wine.

-It's made with a chardonnay grape.

-There's a lot of rich meat

-that is served at Christmas.

-This is a different white wine.

-I enjoy a white wine.

-I prefer a red wine.

-Next, we have the 2012 Riesling,

-Grand Cru Ollwiller from France.

-It comes from the east of France.

-It's grown in a sunny spot.

-It's full of flavour.

-I wouldn't usually opt

-for this wine.

-But it's a lovely tipple

-apart from the bottle.

-It's a great price too.

-This is a 2014 pinot noir

-from New Zealand.

-The grapes are grown in Burgundy

-in France.

-This bottle from Aldi

-is at a reasonable price.

-The flavour

-is packed with cherries.

-It's a great price too.

-There are so many bargains on wines

-and sparkling wines at the moment.

-We have a 15-year-old claret here.

-There's a delicious aroma.

-There are secondary aromas too.

-It costs 15.

-It's not one of the main chateaus.

-This is lovely.

-Yes, I agree with you.

-It's something

-that people won't choose...

-..but you need to decant it.

-Our next wine

-is a Madeira from Portugal.

-It's a great wine to serve with

-the Christmas pudding or cheese.

-It also has a Christmas aroma.

-The Sainsbury's Madeira

-is priced at 7.

-It's a smaller bottle too.

-The prices are reasonable

-for Madeiras and sherries.

-It didn't look anything like that.

-I tried my best.

-The smell is wonderful.

-You only need ten pieces of pine,

-ten stems of holly...

-It's so simple.
