For years, what we've done is try to make sure that athletes,

0:08:070:08:09

who are at a high level of competition,

0:08:090:08:11

are very aware of the risks.

0:08:110:08:13

We will always be chasing

0:08:130:08:15

because athletes will always be trying to find the next possible way

0:08:150:08:18

to get over the system.

0:08:180:08:19

What we're doing now is looking at younger, lower-age athletes,

0:08:190:08:23

and trying to develop a programme around values.

0:08:230:08:26

It's where we give them very clear information about how to ensure

0:08:260:08:28

that they never take a banned substance inadvertently,

0:08:280:08:31

and that would be one of the biggest worries we'd have

0:08:310:08:33

once they get to a higher level.

0:08:330:08:35

At that stage, if an athlete has chosen to dope,

0:08:350:08:37

it's very hard to change their minds.

0:08:370:08:39

The largest amateur sporting organisation

0:08:390:08:42

in the country is the GAA.

0:08:420:08:43

Where is the relationship between Sport Ireland and the GAA

0:08:430:08:46

in terms of testing athletes?

0:08:460:08:47

We would consider the GAA to be

0:08:470:08:49

a very important part of our programme.

0:08:490:08:52

People recognise the importance and the value of what we do.

0:08:520:08:55

They are an amateur sport,

0:08:550:08:56

but they are a very, very, very high-profile sport in this country,

0:08:560:08:59

and so whereas the risks of professionalism aren't there,

0:08:590:09:02

the risks are there in terms of the high profile of the sport.

0:09:020:09:05

Oisin, is it wishful thinking for us to think that GAA is 100% clean

0:09:160:09:20

from performance-enhancing drugs?

0:09:200:09:23

It would be very naive of us to think that it wasn't going on

0:09:230:09:26

in some form, especially in the club game.

0:09:260:09:29

I think it happens in guys who just want to get bigger going to the gym,

0:09:290:09:33

fitter, stronger, faster,

0:09:330:09:36

and that's how it's sold to them.

0:09:360:09:38

A lot of players see it as, you know,

0:09:380:09:40

this is their opportunity to shine.

0:09:400:09:42

Maybe a young lad sees the opportunity

0:09:420:09:44

to maybe get onto a county squad

0:09:440:09:47

and he thinks, you know, "I might go that extra yard.

0:09:470:09:50

"This might take me to the next level."

0:09:500:09:53

That's the danger in it.

0:09:530:09:54

The danger is, once you start,

0:09:540:09:57

it's very, very difficult to leave it down then.

0:09:570:09:59

You know, it's not something that's going to give you a pick-me-up

0:09:590:10:02

for two to three weeks and you're going to be able to leave it behind.

0:10:020:10:05

One of the things about performance-enhancing drugs is

0:10:050:10:07

that they give you that quick fix that everybody wants nowadays.

0:10:070:10:11

That's the reason why they're so alluring for kids.

0:10:110:10:14

-How are you?

-Lovely to see you.

0:16:390:16:41

What a 12 months you've had. Can you quite believe it?

0:16:410:16:43

Not really, no. But we're working hard, so it's worth it.

0:16:430:16:47

And where did all start, Ryan?

0:16:470:16:48

Because, you know, you're a wonderful performer,

0:16:480:16:51

mad into the songs, you write your own material as well.

0:16:510:16:54

Yeah, I mean, it starts at home.

0:16:540:16:56

I grew up in a family that are very musical

0:16:560:16:59

so, yeah, there was always a guitar pretty close to hand.

0:16:590:17:02

And then when did you get the bug

0:17:020:17:03

for going out on the road and performing?

0:17:030:17:05

And when did you know that you wanted to do this?

0:17:050:17:07

I never did, it's just kind of happened.

0:17:070:17:09

It kept forcing itself on me, I kept pushing it away.

0:17:090:17:12

I wanted to be an engineer, but it always found its way back.

0:17:120:17:16

You know, I couldn't argue with it any more, I had to just embrace it.

0:17:160:17:19

But I enjoy it, I really do.

0:17:190:17:20

It's one thing to have talent, though, and then it's another thing

0:17:200:17:23

to have these wonderful opportunities open up for you,

0:17:230:17:26

and you have been so fortunate over the last 12 months.

0:17:260:17:28

-I have.

-How has it all come about?

0:17:280:17:30

I honestly don't know. I've just been working, working hard.

0:17:300:17:34

You know, the right people have been watching,

0:17:340:17:36

the right people have been helping,

0:17:360:17:38

and, yeah, as a team, we're just working really hard.

0:17:380:17:41

Perhaps the biggest thing that happened to you

0:17:410:17:43

this year, though, was - yeah, Ed Sheeran was great,

0:17:430:17:45

Foy Vance was brilliant, going out on the road with him,

0:17:450:17:47

but coming home and selling out somewhere like The Limelight

0:17:470:17:50

-without having an album released yet...

-Yeah.

-..is a bit crazy.

0:17:500:17:53

I think I'm the only person, bar The Strokes, to have ever done it,

0:17:530:17:56

-and I'm a local boy, so that's pretty good.

-Brilliant.

0:17:560:17:59

-So, what's next, then?

-Mandela Hall, for Belfast anyway.

0:17:590:18:01

I mean, December, I've gigs all over the UK and stuff,

0:18:010:18:06

but the next sort of Ireland gig is Belfast, Mandela Hall, May 4th.

0:18:060:18:10

-So it's all about touring. Yeah, May the 4th be with you.

-Yes.

0:18:100:18:13

It's all about touring at the moment for you,

0:18:130:18:15

but what about going into the studio?

0:18:150:18:17

-When are we going to get new material, Ryan?

-Next year.

0:18:170:18:20

I'll definitely have new material this year,

0:18:200:18:22

but the album will be next year.

0:18:220:18:23

That is definitely something to savour

0:18:230:18:24

-and something to look forward to.

-Yeah.

0:18:240:18:26

Thank you.

0:18:280:18:29

-Well, Natasha, how are you?

-I'm good.

0:19:100:19:12

-Do you want a hand?

-Yes, please.

-Right.

0:19:120:19:14

-So, how long have you been working here?

-A year.

0:19:150:19:17

What's the best thing about it?

0:19:170:19:18

-Making sandwiches.

-HE LAUGHS

0:19:180:19:20

-Aye, do you get to eat them?

-Yes.

0:19:200:19:22

-You do?

-Yes.

-Good stuff.

0:19:220:19:23

Well, I want to eat one of these after I make it.

0:19:230:19:25

-Is that enough, no?

-A bit more.

0:19:250:19:27

You go more, aye? Right.

0:19:270:19:29

-You roll it up.

-OK.

0:19:290:19:30

-Like this.

-Like this?

0:19:300:19:32

-You put it over here, right?

-Yes.

0:19:320:19:34

And then...

0:19:340:19:36

-And then you roll again. More?

-Yeah.

-OK.

0:19:360:19:39

-OK. It wasn't that bad, was it?

-No.

0:19:410:19:43

Look, you're better than me.

0:19:430:19:46

I was over trying to help Natasha, I'm not too sure how good I was,

0:20:520:20:55

-but I might be better with the sandwiches.

-Hopefully.

0:20:550:20:58

So, how did you find out about Loaf and the work that's going on here?

0:20:580:21:02

I was just seeing through things

0:21:020:21:03

-at the local Job Centre.

-Yeah.

0:21:030:21:05

Like, with me being dyslexic

0:21:050:21:07

and all, they recommended it.

0:21:070:21:09

And how are you getting on?

0:21:090:21:11

-This type of work I like to do.

-Yeah, great.

0:21:110:21:13

So it's not too bad making sandwiches, doing all the prep work.

0:21:130:21:16

After the work experience here, what are your plans?

0:21:160:21:18

Do you have anything that you want to do after?

0:21:180:21:20

My plan is trying to get into the work of catering.

0:21:200:21:23

-Right.

-In general, just try to make sandwiches.

0:21:230:21:27

The general idea is I want, in time, to have my own wee cafe business.

0:21:270:21:33

-Jeez, great.

-So, that's my life ambition.

0:21:330:21:36

-It's a good place to start, as well, here.

-Definitely.

0:21:360:21:39

They give you a lot of help and encouragement.

# Every girl is a daughter

0:24:230:24:26

# But you're not quite the same

0:24:290:24:32

# You're like fire in the water

0:24:340:24:38

# And smoke on the rain

0:24:410:24:45

# You've got a sweet something about you

0:24:470:24:51

# Something hard to name

0:24:530:24:58

# The way your hair falls on your shoulders

0:24:590:25:03

# It's hard to explain, oh, no

0:25:060:25:12

# Oh, Susannah

0:25:120:25:14

# If ever the world drags you down

0:25:140:25:18

# Call my name

0:25:180:25:20

# And I'll come running

0:25:200:25:23

# I'll sit down beside you

0:25:230:25:26

# And I won't make a sound

0:25:260:25:29

# Ooh, Susannah

0:25:330:25:38

# I wanna walk down by the water

0:25:380:25:43

# I wanna stand round there and breathe

0:25:440:25:49

# I wanna treat it like an alter

0:25:510:25:54

# With you right there with me Yeah, now

0:25:570:26:02

# Ooh, Susannah

0:26:020:26:04

# If ever the world drags you down

0:26:040:26:08

# Call my name

0:26:080:26:10

# And I'll come running

0:26:100:26:14

# I'll sit down beside you

0:26:140:26:17

# Ooh, and I won't make a sound

0:26:170:26:20

# Ooh, Susannah

0:26:240:26:28

# I've been travelling

0:26:320:26:35

# And I've been taking stock

0:26:350:26:38

# So when I get home there's no need to talk

0:26:380:26:43

# Cos I feel we've said All that there is to say

0:26:430:26:50

# And even though we're parting ways

0:26:530:26:56

# Oh, Susannah

0:27:010:27:03

# If ever the world drags you down

0:27:030:27:07

# Call my name

0:27:070:27:09

# And I'll come running

0:27:090:27:12

# And I'll sit down beside you

0:27:120:27:15

# Ooh, and I won't make a sound

0:27:150:27:19

# Ooh, Susannah. #
