Hello and welcome to BBC Proms in the Park 2016.

:00:00.:00:07.

We're making history here tonight as this event

:00:08.:00:10.

travels to North Wales for the very first time.

:00:11.:00:13.

In this special concert, we have an '80s icon...

:00:14.:00:15.

A Grammy award winning singer-songwriter....

:00:16.:00:17.

And the winner of BBC Young Musician 2016.

:00:18.:00:23.

Welcome to Parc Eirias, Colwyn Bay, for a star-studded extravanganza!

:00:24.:01:18.

Our first guest artist is a familiar face.

:01:19.:01:21.

He's a singer, a broadcaster and has an alter ego who sells insurance!

:01:22.:01:24.

To get the party started, a voice that draws thousands

:01:25.:01:27.

of listeners to his daily show on Radio Wales ? the ever

:01:28.:01:29.

Next to perform, a singer-songwriter who this year picked up a Grammy

:01:30.:04:50.

for Song of the Year with writing partner Ed Sheeran.

:04:51.:04:59.

I'm a big fan of your music, I particularly love the way your songs

:05:00.:05:05.

are filled with emotion. Would you say you've got a particular style?

:05:06.:05:09.

Yes, I definitely am one of those people that writes kind of like a

:05:10.:05:13.

diary and I always say if someone upsets me, they'll end up in a song.

:05:14.:05:17.

That's my number one threat. It's just, yeah, I'm not somebody that

:05:18.:05:21.

knows how to express myself actually in any other way other than singing

:05:22.:05:27.

about it. It's always been that kind of journey for me. The first song we

:05:28.:05:33.

are hearing is Grammy Award winning song, Thinking Out Loud. What is

:05:34.:05:38.

special about that for you? My whole journey started with Ed Sheeran. For

:05:39.:05:43.

two of us to go through that thing together in the Grammies, we both

:05:44.:05:47.

kind of sat there and went, oh, my God because it's extraordinary for

:05:48.:05:50.

what's happened to him, but for me to have got there with him is

:05:51.:05:54.

special as well. He's like my little brother and it's been a joyful

:05:55.:05:56.

thing, it really, really has. # When your legs don't work

:05:57.:05:59.

like they used to before # And I can't sweep

:06:00.:06:02.

you off of your feet # Will your mouth still remember

:06:03.:06:07.

the taste of my love # Will your eyes still

:06:08.:06:11.

smile from your cheeks # # And darling I will be

:06:12.:06:15.

loving you 'til we're 70 # And baby my heart could

:06:16.:06:24.

still fall as hard at 23 # And I'm thinking 'bout how people

:06:25.:06:33.

fall in love in mysterious ways # Maybe just the touch of a hand #

:06:34.:06:40.

Oh me I fall in love with you every single day #

:06:41.:06:47.

And I just wanna tell you I am # So honey now # Take me

:06:48.:06:56.

into your loving arms # Kiss me under the light

:06:57.:07:05.

of a thousand stars # Place your head

:07:06.:07:10.

on my beating heart # Maybe we found love

:07:11.:07:14.

right where we are # When my hair's all but gone

:07:15.:07:25.

and my memory fades # And the crowds don't

:07:26.:07:29.

remember my name # When my hands don't play

:07:30.:07:34.

the strings the same way, mm # I know you will

:07:35.:07:39.

still love me the same # 'Cause honey your soul can never

:07:40.:07:42.

grow old, it's evergreen # Baby your smile's forever

:07:43.:07:52.

in my mind and memory # I'm thinking 'bout how people fall

:07:53.:08:00.

in love in mysterious ways # Maybe it's all part

:08:01.:08:08.

of a plan # I'll just keep on making the same mistakes # Hoping

:08:09.:08:14.

that you'll understand # Kiss me under the light

:08:15.:08:22.

of a thousand stars # Place your head

:08:23.:08:36.

on my beating heart # That maybe we found

:08:37.:08:40.

love right where we are, # That maybe we found

:08:41.:08:48.

love right where we are, Thank you so much.

:08:49.:09:26.

APPLAUSE. A few months ago, our next artist

:09:27.:09:34.

was at the Barbican Hall in London competing in the Grand Final of BBC

:09:35.:09:38.

Young Musician. Yes, I was lucky enough to be

:09:39.:09:42.

at that sensational final to witness 17-year-old cellist

:09:43.:09:46.

Sheku Kanneh-Mason give an unforgettable performance

:09:47.:09:51.

to win the coveted title. I suspect that things are never

:09:52.:09:54.

going to be the same again for this Not only is he incredibly gifted,

:09:55.:09:58.

he's half Welsh, too! His mother's from Monmouthshire

:09:59.:10:03.

and Sheku's favourite Please welcome Mr Kanneh-Mason!

excitement about our next performer. As lead singer of Spandau Ballet,

an honour to have you in Wales. How do you feel about part of our

:17:11.:17:13.

celebration for the last night of the Proms? For racing to play with

:17:14.:17:22.

an orchestra, I think is the best experience, so I am happy. As long

:17:23.:17:26.

as the clouds held off, and the crowd looked like they are great, I

be happy. -- for a singer. I play this song about three four times a

:17:35.:17:42.

week of the island of Wight. Really? Really! When I was in the jungle,

:17:43.:17:52.

the weird thing was that there were so many kids who knew True and Goal,

:17:53.:17:59.

but they didn't know the guy who had sung it. -- Gold. I had a whole new

:18:00.:18:09.

audience. It was great. Totally brilliant to meet you. Thank you.

# I'm sorry that the chairs are all worn

:18:18.:18:22.

# I left them here I could have sworn

# You knew that he was there on the case

:19:52.:19:55.

# Now he's in love with you, he's in love with you

:19:56.:20:00.

# My love is like a high prison wall

:20:01.:20:04.

# But you could leave me standing so tall

:20:05.:20:12.

# You've got the power to know # You're indestructible

:20:13.:20:27.

# Always believe in, because you are

for a budding young conductor. Earier this year, the BBC

:22:28.:22:32.

National Orchestra of Wales worked with a group of

:22:33.:22:34.

musicians from Gwynedd. During their workshop

:22:35.:22:37.

they discovered a star - Now, it's time to welcome back

:25:56.:26:03.

# And all of the people in photographs

:26:04.:26:08.

# They look a little like us # And all of the tears and through

# Just have one more dance # With me

# Except your heart is mine and mine yours

:27:09.:27:12.

# We've done pretending with plenty of time

:27:13.:27:17.

# Because we are old enough just to know

:27:18.:27:23.

# This train has come to the end of the line

:27:24.:27:30.

# And is nowhere left to go # Just have one more dance

:27:31.:27:39.

# If we hold on # Just for too long

:28:07.:28:16.

# We want no # -- we will not know

:28:17.:28:24.

# That we have one last dance # We'll have one last dance

:28:25.:28:35.

APPLAUSE. Now, Radio Wales favourite

:29:02.:29:08.

Wynne Evans has performed in opera houses across Europe,

:29:09.:29:15.

but tonight he makes his Proms It's your first Proms in the Park

:29:16.:29:27.

and the first time it's in North Wales. How special do you think it

:29:28.:29:33.

is to come up north? Fantastic. It's a new place, but it's already got

:29:34.:29:40.

great history going on here, rugby, the under 21s, this is their home.

:29:41.:29:44.

I'm 44, I'm hoping there's still time for me to get a game. Sure they

:29:45.:29:51.

can get a Red Shirt sorted. Not in my size, love.

:29:52.:30:02.

What is good about here? Anything goes, it's music at its best, in its

:30:03.:30:07.

purest form. Gutted Tony Hadley is singing because I was going to sing

:30:08.:30:12.

Gold myself this evening. It's been in my repertoire for a while. All

:30:13.:30:19.

the best tonight. Good luck. Don't mess it up.

:30:20.:30:22.

# To try when your arms are too weary

:30:23.:30:53.

# This is my quest to follow that star

:30:54.:31:02.

# No matter how hopeless, no matter how far

:31:03.:31:07.

# That my heart will lie peaceful and calm

:31:08.:31:32.

# When I'm laid to my rest

:31:33.:31:38.

# And the world will be better for this

:31:39.:31:43.

# That one man, scorned and covered with scars

:31:44.:31:49.

# Still strove with his last ounce of courage

:31:50.:31:52.

# To dream the impossible dream

:31:53.:32:43.

# That my heart will lie peaceful and calm

:32:44.:32:46.

# When I'm laid to my rest

:32:47.:32:51.

# And the world will be better for this

:32:52.:32:54.

# That one man, scorned and covered with scars

:32:55.:33:00.

# Still strove with his last ounce of courage

:33:01.:33:07.

I'm sure there's one artist that you'd all like to see perform again!

:33:08.:33:52.

Through the Barricades was released in 1986 and shot up the charts.

:33:53.:34:08.

Please welcome back on stage, Mr Tony Hadley!

:34:09.:34:14.

APPLAUSE. # Mother doesn't know

:34:15.:34:28.

where love has gone # She says it must be youth that

:34:29.:34:37.

keeps us feeling strong # I see it in her face

:34:38.:34:40.

that's turned to ice # And when she smiles she shows

:34:41.:34:48.

the lines of sacrifice # And when she smiles she shows

:34:49.:34:59.

the lines of sacrifice # He fought for what he thought

:35:00.:35:29.

would set us somehow free # He taught me what to say in school

:35:30.:35:37.

# I learned it off by heart # But we feel the same

:35:38.:35:47.

and feel all of this strife # And we'll cross the line

:35:48.:36:43.

and dance upon the streets # Well there's a scar

:36:44.:37:01.

right through my heart # Oh, I thought we

:37:02.:37:34.

were the human race # But we were just

:37:35.:37:47.

another borderline case # And the stars reach

:37:48.:37:50.

down and tell us # Oh, I don't know

:37:51.:37:53.

where love has gone # And in this troubled land

:37:54.:38:03.

desperation keeps us strong # It's a terrible beauty we've made

:38:04.:38:10.

# So we make our love on wasteland Good health, good wealth and good

life to you all. Thank you. CHEERING AND APPLAUSE.

:38:39.:40:52.

Thank you very much, thank you, thank you very much, take care. How

:40:53.:40:58.

fantastic was that. Please show your appreciation for Mr Tony Hadley!

:40:59.:41:08.

It's almost the end of the show. I'm sure you would like to join me in

:41:09.:41:13.

thanking the magnificent BBC National Orchestra and chorus of

:41:14.:41:19.

Wales and their leader Lesley Hadfield.

:41:20.:41:21.

Well, there's only one way to bring a Proms in the Park concert

:41:22.:41:24.

to a close, and that's with a big old sing-song!

:41:25.:41:29.

Ladies and gentlemen, pick up your song sheet or look

:41:30.:41:32.

at the big screens and join us in singing a medley

:41:33.:41:35.

From us all, thank you and goodnight!
