# Do you ever get that fear that you can't shift the tide. | :01:09. | :01:11.

# Save us now. #. APPLAUSE AND CHEERING. A joy to have | :08:05. | :08:25.
Paul McCartney in this room. From his exquisite new album. Now, our | :08:26. | :08:30.
next artist, just hold it there a moment, her first record came out in | :08:31. | :08:35.
2010, but it's not until now that we've had her on the show. She has a | :08:36. | :08:39.
brand new record out in the new year. She is Katy B! | :08:40. | :08:51.
# My feet won't stop, I can't keep still. | :08:52. | :08:57.
# Be rocking this until the sunlight. | :08:58. | :09:00.
# That beat so sick, that tune so ill. | :09:01. | :09:04.
# Seems they know just how to move me right. | :09:05. | :09:07.
# He looks my way, won't waste my time. | :09:08. | :09:13.
# Looking in all the wrong places. # And let history repeat in parallel | :09:14. | :09:17.
lines. # A sucker for those pretty faces. | :09:18. | :09:22.
# Ooh, I need somebody to calm me down. | :09:23. | :09:28.
# A little loving like Valium. # I need somebody to knock me out I | :09:29. | :09:34.
need some loving like. # Ooh, I don't know what I'm running | :09:35. | :09:39.
from. # But when the sun comes up it won't | :09:40. | :09:43.
be wrong. # I need some loving like Valium. | :09:44. | :09:49.
# I need some loving like. # It's 5am, all on my own. | :09:50. | :09:56.
# I just need someone to talk with me. | :09:57. | :09:59.
# I lost my friends, I check my phone. | :10:00. | :10:03.

# Ooh, I need somebody to calm me down. | :10:21. | :10:28.
# A little loving like Valium. # I need somebody to knock me out. | :10:29. | :10:33.
# I need some loving like. # Ooh, I don't know what I'm running | :10:34. | :10:38.
from. # But when the sun comes up it won't | :10:39. | :10:42.
be wrong. # I need some loving like Valium. | :10:43. | :10:49.
# I need some loving like. # I need some loving like. | :10:50. | :11:05.
# Close my eyes, numb the pain, feel my worries melt away. | :11:06. | :11:09.

be wrong. # I need some loving like Valium. | :11:42. | :11:49.
# I need some loving like. # I need some loving like. I need | :11:50. | :12:00.
some loving like #. Thank you Katy B! The next person | :12:01. | :12:18.
I'm going to chat with at the pinot, has this super record out called | :12:19. | :12:22.
New. He's had marvellous records in the last few years. This is one of | :12:23. | :12:26.
the very best. Welcome Paul McCartney. | :12:27. | :12:33.
APPLAUSE Oh, interesting sitting on the | :12:34. | :12:39.
pinot, straddle. What inspired you to get back into the studio? I was | :12:40. | :12:46.
just fed up. Yes. No, it was time. I'd written a bunch of songs and I | :12:47. | :12:50.
had done some other stuff in the meantime. I had done an album of old | :12:51. | :12:57.
standards, of my dad's era and your era of music. Exactly! I just | :12:58. | :13:02.
thought I had some new songs so it was time. The song you just played | :13:03. | :13:06.
there, what inspired that song? Where did it come from? It was made | :13:07. | :13:15.
up. I went into a session with Paul Epworth. We made up the rhythm track | :13:16. | :13:20.
and I started blocking out some words and finally these words "save | :13:21. | :13:26.
us" came. And I started to make sense of it. It was made up on the | :13:27. | :13:31.
spot. Bearing in mind, you have been one of the most successful composure | :13:32. | :13:38.
of -- composers of all time, you say just making it up. I'd like to look | :13:39. | :13:43.
into it. Yes, we are all just making it up. But where do you start with | :13:44. | :13:48.
composition? Does it start with the words or the headline or an | :13:49. | :13:53.
instrument? It depends. You just get something that starts you. If you've | :13:54. | :13:57.
got no idea at all, you can just look for something on the pinot. You | :13:58. | :14:04.
know, I don't know. You could look for something like that. And start | :14:05. | :14:12.
yourself off. Maybe get a little rhythm thing going. You go, no, I | :14:13. | :14:18.
hate that. So you change it. We liked that. You just develop it. Out | :14:19. | :14:23.
of interest, have you just made that one up? Yeah. First time... See | :14:24. | :14:28.
that's, really that was thinking. If you thought about it, you couldn't | :14:29. | :14:33.
do it. But just instinctively that's what you've made up. Cancel the | :14:34. | :14:39.
show, we'll write it now. Amazing. I think, we've seen the process close | :14:40. | :14:45.
up. Oh, shut up! Yes, it's true. So now, the other thing, what about all | :14:46. | :14:48.
the songs you've written, because there are great songs on here which | :14:49. | :14:52.
we're going to be hearing more of, but you have written a whole | :14:53. | :14:56.
catalogue of amazing songs, Wings, the Beatles, all the great songs, | :14:57. | :15:00.
when you look back, what are the ones that you are most fond of? It's | :15:01. | :15:06.
difficult to answer that question. Because number one, you change your | :15:07. | :15:10.
favourites. And number two, they're like your babies. You don't want a | :15:11. | :15:16.
favourite. Here, There and Everywhere. Yeah, nice. I like that. | :15:17. | :15:23.
Yesterday I like because I dreamed it, so I have no idea where that one | :15:24. | :15:27.
came fr. I woke up one morning and I had that tune. That was special. | :15:28. | :15:39.
Elnor Ri -- Eleanor Rigby. Lots of people have covered them. They have | :15:40. | :15:43.
all done, in fact, one of your favourites was by maybe Earth Wind | :15:44. | :15:48.
Fire. That was one of my best favourites. I thought so... Because | :15:49. | :15:53.
they're here tonight! I didn't know (! ) Fantastic. | :15:54. | :15:56.
APPLAUSE I am really very lucky because some | :15:57. | :16:01.
incredible people have covered my songs and I just feel very lucky | :16:02. | :16:05.
that they would do that. How about the song writers, the composers that | :16:06. | :16:09.
you like, like a lot of the musicians in this room, including | :16:10. | :16:15.
me, owe you. Who is a great song writer and it's you, but who is the | :16:16. | :16:19.
person that you have? I look to different eras. If you are look | :16:20. | :16:27.
being back to -- to my dad's era, Cole Porter and HogieCarmichael. And | :16:28. | :16:38.
then Stevie Wonder is a monster. It goes on. There's a load of great | :16:39. | :16:45.
people out there and out now. Hearing more from this great record | :16:46. | :16:52.
in a moment. Thank you. The wonderful Sir Paul McCartney. More | :16:53. | :16:57.
from you in a moment. Now, one of the great new blues | :16:58. | :17:03.
artists of today, it is Gary Clark Jr. | :17:04. | :17:15.
# Well, I'm numb. # Yeah, woman, I can't feel a thing. | :17:16. | :17:31.
# Well, I'm numb. # Yeah, woman, I can't feel a thing. | :17:32. | :17:43.
# She give me a hard time in the day. | :17:44. | :17:47.
# A hard time at night. # She can be so sweet till she wanna | :17:48. | :17:53.
fuss and fight. # Well, I'm numb. | :17:54. | :18:10.
# Yeah, woman, I can't feel a thing. # Well, I'm numb. | :18:11. | :18:20.
# Yeah, woman, I can't feel a thing. # Ain't passing from the right. | :18:21. | :18:25.
# I'm passing to the left. # Burn this whole thing down by | :18:26. | :18:30.
myself. # Well, I'm numb. | :18:31. | :18:43.
# Yeah, woman, I can't feel a thing. # Well, I'm numb. | :18:44. | :18:47.
# Yeah, woman, I can't feel a thing. # Well, I'm numb. | :18:48. | :19:35.
# Yeah, woman, I can't feel a thing. # Well, I'm numb | :19:36. | :19:38.
# Yeah, woman, I can't feel a thing. Gary Clark Jr! Nice. Our next | :19:39. | :20:36.
artist, living in London, he moved to Paris and whilst busking on the | :20:37. | :20:41.
Metro was discovered by music bigwigs. Here he is, it's the | :20:42. | :20:44.
wonderful, Benjamin Clementine. # If I held my breath on you | :20:45. | :21:31.
# I'll die a thousand times # If I was to show you how much I | :21:32. | :21:35.
care # I'd probably be wearing dentures | :21:36. | :21:39.
by now # Promises broken | :21:40. | :21:47.
# Gnome Is your token # -- nemesis your token. | :21:48. | :21:51.
# You turn around and march into your new home | :21:52. | :21:55.
# Whenever you've gone darling # Please don't you ever forget to | :21:56. | :22:07.
treat others the way you want to be treated | :22:08. | :22:19.
# Yeah, remember your days, yeah. # I said if I held my breath on you, | :22:20. | :22:25.
I'll die a thousand times # If she was to show you how much | :22:26. | :22:31.
were to care, I'd be wearing dentures by now | :22:32. | :22:34.
# I'm trying to say darling, I no ewhere you're going | :22:35. | :22:46.
# But aren't you forget # These days dries my face | :22:47. | :22:55.
# Such innocence smiles back at me # Herecy might be your new faith | :22:56. | :22:58.
# But whatever you believe in, darling, don't you everer forget | :22:59. | :23:10.
# To treat others the way you want to be treated, yeah | :23:11. | :23:23.
# Remember your days fooling, yeah # Treat others the way you want to | :23:24. | :23:30.
be treated # Remember your days full in number | :23:31. | :23:44.
# I can't say nothing for you no more | :23:45. | :23:49.
# Nemises # Treat others way the you want to | :23:50. | :23:52.
be treated # Other-wise you'll get your | :23:53. | :23:58.
punishment # Nemises, is bitter | :23:59. | :24:12.
# Life is and it's come on, come on # Come on, yeah. | :24:13. | :24:30.
# One for the road. # One for the road. | :24:31. | :25:02.
# From the bottom of your heart. # The relegation zone. | :25:03. | :25:13.
# I saw this coming from the start. # The shake, rattle and roll. | :25:14. | :25:20.
# The cracks in blackout blinds cast patterns on the ceiling. | :25:21. | :25:27.
# But you're feeling fine. # I thought it was dark outside. | :25:28. | :25:40.
# One for the road. # So we all go back to yours and you | :25:41. | :25:45.
sit and talk to me on the floor. # There's no need to show me round, | :25:46. | :25:47.
baby. # I feel like I've been here before. | :25:48. | :25:51.
# I've been wondering whether later when you tell everybody to go. | :25:52. | :26:00.
# Will you pour me one for the road? # I knew this would be on the cards. | :26:01. | :26:10.
# I knew you wouldn't fold. # I saw this coming from start. | :26:11. | :26:19.
# The shake, rattle and roll. # One for the road. | :26:20. | :26:23.
# So we all go back to yours. # And you sit and talk to me on the | :26:24. | :26:26.
floor. # There's no need to show me round, | :26:27. | :26:28.
baby. # I feel like I've been here before. | :26:29. | :26:33.
# I've been wondering whether later when you tell everybody to go. | :26:34. | :26:42.
# Will you pour me one for the road? # The mixture hits you hard. | :26:43. | :26:48.
# Don't get that sinking feeling, don't fall apart. | :26:49. | :26:57.
# Some out of tune guitar. # Soundtrack to disaster. | :26:58. | :27:08.
# One for the road. # One for the road. | :27:09. | :27:21.
# One for the road. # So we all go back to yours. | :27:22. | :27:49.
# And you sit and talk to me on the floor. | :27:50. | :27:54.
# One for the road. # There's no need to show me round, | :27:55. | :28:00.
baby. # I feel like I've been here before. | :28:01. | :28:04.
# One for the road. APPLAUSE AND CHEERING. Thank you | :28:05. | :28:22.
Arctic Monkeys. Before that we enjoyed Benjamin Clementine. Now, | :28:23. | :28:29.
Paul McCartney at the pinot and talking about a band that had | :28:30. | :28:34.
covered one of their songs. We have fill p, raffle and Verdine, because | :28:35. | :28:43.
we have Earth Wind Fire here. -- Philip, Ralph and Verdine. You | :28:44. | :28:52.
have this new record out and on it, you've captured that amazing and | :28:53. | :28:55.
unique sound of Earth Wind Fire, which is a unique sound. Where does | :28:56. | :29:00.
it come from? My brother, the leader and the founder, devised a concept | :29:01. | :29:07.
with the sound which came from Chicago, all of these years we've | :29:08. | :29:12.
all put in the sound and made it really a great ridge make and horn | :29:13. | :29:18.
sound. That huge sound, with the funk, it always gets me going. When | :29:19. | :29:24.
the group first started what music inspired you? A little bit of | :29:25. | :29:29.
everything actually. Kind of wanted to make the music very commercial, | :29:30. | :29:34.

lovely ingredients. And your live shows were a spectacle. You have | :29:52. | :29:56.
just done some shows in London, is that right? Yes, the Royal Albert | :29:57. | :30:02.
Hall. It was great music, vishuals. Did you deliberately decide you | :30:03. | :30:07.
would have a spectacle when you had live shows? When we started it was | :30:08. | :30:11.
just about wanting to be a great band period. As the band progressed, | :30:12. | :30:17.
as Maurice kept taking a look Atumpan it, he wanted to expand the | :30:18. | :30:21.
concept in terms of what we were doing live. Bring more theatre to | :30:22. | :30:24.
it. Every zone of it was expanding in an amazing way. We have a bit of | :30:25. | :30:30.
fantasy from 1978 here. We can go down the time tunnel together and | :30:31. | :30:31.

don't know if it's true, that you didn't do this. You avoided, | :31:44. | :31:48.
amazingly, avoided that. We all lives in capsules. I thought so! | :31:49. | :31:53.

were inducted in 2,000. He said it was one of his favourite covers. Not | :32:28. | :32:31.
just because he was here. We're going to start a new band and he's | :32:32. | :32:35.
the fourth member. Earth Wind Fire and Paul. Great. Lovely. He's | :32:36. | :32:40.

Gary Clark Jr. And now, I'm delighted to be joined | :43:48. | :43:51.
by a man who's been having tremendous success lately, Alex | :43:52. | :43:55.
Turner, from the Arctic Monkeys. Marvellous to have you back at the | :43:56. | :44:00.
show. How are you doing, all right? I'm pleased you've got a drink. | :44:01. | :44:04.
Yeah, I'm just over here having a casual red wine by myself. I've | :44:05. | :44:10.
joined you now. They should get you one. No, nothing for me. You should | :44:11. | :44:17.
be celebrating because AM, your fifth album, the fifth to go | :44:18. | :44:20.
straight to number one. Congratulations. Thank you. | :44:21. | :44:27.
APPLAUSE How do you celebrate this then? Do | :44:28. | :44:35.
you faux what -- do you faux what, we -- do you know what, we haven't | :44:36. | :44:42.
had time for a celebration. This room seems like a wonderful reward. | :44:43. | :44:47.
What a great reward. We've come up trumps tonight with the guests. An | :44:48. | :44:52.
amazing lot of guests. Right? Right guys. A load of great guests and one | :44:53. | :44:56.
glass of wine. There we go. Is it right you've moved now. You're | :44:57. | :45:00.
living in LA? We've been spending a lot of time there. We did the record | :45:01. | :45:04.
there. We've been there a lot in the last year. Does that make the record | :45:05. | :45:07.
sound different do you think? Perhaps some days I feel like it | :45:08. | :45:11.
does. Perhaps I haven't got the hindsight on it yet to make a | :45:12. | :45:15.
judgment on that. Still a bit close. Yeah. But maybe it makes it more | :45:16. | :45:20.
laid back or something. This might sound like a daft question, what's | :45:21. | :45:24.
the main differences between Sheffield and Los Angeles? | :45:25. | :45:28.
LAUGHTER I don't think that requires - that | :45:29. | :45:34.
laughter just was the best answer to that question perhaps. I don't know. | :45:35. | :45:37.
You can ride your motorbike all year round. That's the only difference. | :45:38. | :45:41.
Other than that, it's pretty much the same. Similar, yeah. I love | :45:42. | :45:48.
Sheff. As do I. We were there this weekend. We caught up with old | :45:49. | :45:51.
friends on Saturday night, it was great. Of course, Josh Hom came on | :45:52. | :45:57.
the show and he told us you go motorcycling with him. Is that a big | :45:58. | :46:02.
lie? No, that's true. That's not him making the myths. So you ride all | :46:03. | :46:08.
the year round, not just fair weather? I make out like I ride | :46:09. | :46:13.
hard, but I'm just a terrible poser, really. What sort of motorbike do | :46:14. | :46:22.
you have? I got a YamahaXS 650. Are you into that? I used to know about | :46:23. | :46:26.
the old bikes. I haven't kept up with the modern ones. That's a 70s | :46:27. | :46:32.
bike. How much I know then. I'm still with the Brough, superiors. | :46:33. | :46:39.
You strike me as four wheels. No I like the Vincent. The black shadows. | :46:40. | :46:45.
Or the lightning, if you could get one. Very hard to find. A bit out of | :46:46. | :46:51.
my range at the moment. They break a legal. -- leg. Move a few more | :46:52. | :46:55.
units, you never know. This record is going the right way. You were | :46:56. | :47:03.
given a Q award for the best track I Want To Know. More things to | :47:04. | :47:10.
celebrate. Cheers! Yes! APPLAUSE | :47:11. | :47:14.
You must have a lot of awards now. Where do you keep those awards? I | :47:15. | :47:19.
don't know where any of them are. I remember one BRIT Award that we had | :47:20. | :47:25.
was in Jamie's fridge for a long time, just by the mustard and | :47:26. | :47:28.
ketchup in the door. Is that what you keep in the fridge? That's where | :47:29. | :47:32.
he was keeping one. I do keep the ketchup in the fridge. | :47:33. | :47:36.
I don't think there's anything unusual about a Brit in the fridge, | :47:37. | :47:41.
but why ketchup? I don't know. What about Marmite, in the fridge or in | :47:42. | :47:45.
the cupboard? Cupboard, definitely. I want room temperature. I agree | :47:46. | :47:52.
there. A chilled award yes. Room temperature condiments? Hmmm. Does | :47:53. | :47:57.
Marmite get classed as a condiment, though or is that ahead in this | :47:58. | :48:00.
game. Spread - now that's a question. Or is it a smear? Or maybe | :48:01. | :48:05.
just a way of life. It's a statement. Exactly. Well | :48:06. | :48:07.
congratulations on it all. Marvellous to have you back here. | :48:08. | :48:11.
Thanks for having us. Pleased we could give you a glass of Red wine. | :48:12. | :48:17.
