:12:00.:12:03.

Little Dragon. Klapp Klapp. So tonight we have lots of amazing

:12:04.:12:06.

things, Aloe Blacc, more things to come from him. More stuff at the

:12:07.:12:10.

piano. A room packed with really extraordinary people.

:12:11.:12:16.

because of the increased weather temperature throughout. It means we

:12:17.:12:19.

have heavyweight talent here tonight. Let us hear some things

:12:20.:12:29.

from their new Luminous LP from The Horrors.

:12:30.:13:02.

# We are the ones that the light shines down upon

:13:03.:13:18.

# If we start, it's just a wish we made

:13:19.:13:34.

a guest here from one of my favourite punk groups, the Slits. It

:13:35.:16:46.

is Viv Albertine! You describe this in your book. The punk thing, when

:16:47.:16:51.

it came out, it was 38 years ago or something. Surely not! Near enough.

:16:52.:16:58.

How would you describe it to somebody who had never been there?

:16:59.:17:04.

It sprang out of very dark times which are hard to imagine now, how

:17:05.:17:10.

grim London was. Everything was grey, there was rubbish everywhere.

:17:11.:17:15.

There was nothing to do, nothing on TV, no youth culture. We weren't

:17:16.:17:23.

rated in anyway or given a voice. So punk sprang out of having nothing

:17:24.:17:28.

else to do, it was that or die. And what made you want to be in a band?

:17:29.:17:35.

It was a slow process. I loved music from very young, but I saw Patti

:17:36.:17:42.

Smith's album cover, and she looked like a real girl, a bit boy. And

:17:43.:17:51.

then I saw Johnny rotten perform, he was from north London and went to a

:17:52.:17:55.

comprehensive School, he was like me except a boy, and I realise that was

:17:56.:18:04.

what I was going to do full top and was he an easy person to be in a

:18:05.:18:11.

band with? Who started off playing the saxophone, and that is how he

:18:12.:18:15.

invented the pogo dance, because he had the saxophone to hold, so all he

:18:16.:18:22.

could do was John Bob and down. You heard that here first! It was the

:18:23.:18:29.

live excitement of it all. You went on tour in 1977. We are treated

:18:30.:18:40.

differently as a girl group? Yes. The Slits were told to get off the

:18:41.:18:47.

tour bus, go straight to your rooms, and not be seen until the morning,

:18:48.:18:50.

because how you dress is too offensive. The boys, the Clash and

:18:51.:18:57.

so on, they were allowed to hang out in the bar, that the Slits mustn't

:18:58.:19:05.

be seen. We had to to bribe the driver to take on the bus. People

:19:06.:19:16.

spat at us. We have a little clip here on Omnibus.

:19:17.:19:23.

The infamous Slits, an all girl band who have never made a record. They

:19:24.:19:27.

have refused offers from several record labels.

:19:28.:19:41.

# I'm so glad that you belong to me # We want to be free...

:19:42.:19:51.

#. APPLAUSE

:19:52.:19:58.

And the book is great. You are very frank about things in

:19:59.:20:03.

the book, very clear. Was it an enjoyable process going back over

:20:04.:20:08.

those times? It was like going through your attic and seeing the

:20:09.:20:13.

letters you had written. But I could only talk about the moments that

:20:14.:20:16.

happened when I was in the room so that I could experience them. So I

:20:17.:20:20.

didn't do a lot of research. It isn't a timetable. It is just

:20:21.:20:27.

emotional memories. And one of the things was the lead singer, who

:20:28.:20:32.

sadly is no longer with us. What was so special about her? I think Ari

:20:33.:20:44.

was one of the most underrated people. She was across between Tina

:20:45.:20:51.

Turner and others. She invented new dances, had a new look. She was

:20:52.:20:57.

thrown onto the stage, and she had no inhibitions.

:20:58.:21:06.

Looking back at the 22-year-old ewe, there are some great pictures. What

:21:07.:21:15.

advice would you give that person now? -- the 22-year-old you. Don't

:21:16.:21:20.

think that you now? -- the 22-year-old you. Don't

:21:21.:21:27.

ahead and do it. Don't give up. APPLAUSE

:21:28.:21:31.

Thank you very much for joining us! And she is right. And now, from

:21:32.:21:39.

Kentucky, but now living in Nashville, with a lovely sound, we

:21:40.:21:43.

welcome Sturgill Simpson. # I've seen Jesus play with flames.

:21:44.:21:52.

# In a lake of fire. # That I was standing in.

:21:53.:21:58.

# Met the devil in Seattle and spent nine months inside the lions den.

:21:59.:22:07.

# Met Buddha yet another time and he showed me a glowing light within.

:22:08.:22:17.

# But I every time I glare in the eyes of my

:22:18.:22:21.

# Says my son it's all been done and best

:22:22.:22:29.

# So someday you're gonna wake up old

:22:30.:22:37.

# So # You meet and greet and cheat along

:22:38.:22:43.

the way. # There's a gateway in our mind that

:22:44.:22:53.

# Where reptile aliens made of light this plane.

:22:54.:23:03.

# Where reptile aliens made of light cut you open and pull out all your

:23:04.:23:04.

# Tell me how you make illegal pain.

:23:05.:23:13.

# Tell me how you make illegal something that we all make in our

:23:14.:23:14.

brain. # Some say you might go crazy but

:23:15.:23:24.

then again it might make you go sane.

:23:25.:23:31.

# Every time I take a look inside inside that old and fabled book.

:23:32.:23:38.

# I'm blinded and reminded of the pain caused by some old man in the

:23:39.:23:40.

sky. # Marijuana, LSD, psilocybin, and

:23:41.:23:48.

DMT they all changed the way I see. # Marijuana, LSD, psilocybin, and

:23:49.:23:54.

# But love's the only thing that # So don't waste your mind on

:23:55.:24:03.

nursery rhymes. # Or fairy tales of blood and wine.

:24:04.:24:08.

# It's turtles all the way down the line.

:24:09.:24:12.

# So to each their own til' we go home.

:24:13.:24:16.

# To other realms our souls must roam.

:24:17.:24:19.

# To and through the myth that we all call space and time.

:24:20.:24:27.

# Over and over. # I get to know myself.

:24:28.:24:58.

# Over and over. # There ain't nobody else.

:24:59.:25:06.

# It kills to watch you love another.

:25:07.:25:23.

# I should have known better when I caught you wild. # You were

:25:24.:25:26.

incredible. # Never knew you like I know you

:25:27.:25:33.

now. # You are illegible.

:25:34.:25:39.

# Imperceptible the lines # That form the screw.

:25:40.:25:47.

# It kills to watch you love another.

:25:48.:25:56.

# Over and over # I get to know myself.

:25:57.:26:06.

# Over and over. # There ain't nobody else.

:26:07.:26:13.

# A receptacle of lies. # Construed to waste your time.

:26:14.:26:26.

# It kills to watch you love another.

:26:27.:26:35.

# You know. # Over and over.

:26:36.:26:45.

# I get to know myself. # Over and over.

:26:46.:27:08.

# There ain't nobody else. Imperceptible, the lies. # Construed

:27:09.:27:28.

to waste your time. # It kills to watch you love

:27:29.:27:30.

another. # It kills to watch you love

:27:31.:27:33.

another. # It kills to watch you love another

:27:34.:27:41.

#. Thank you the The Afghan Whigs. We

:27:42.:28:12.

enjoyed Sturgill Simpson before that. Now, a man that is rocking

:28:13.:28:16.

number ones all over the world with endless records and endless

:28:17.:28:21.

successes, he will be in a film and we lovely him madly. He is Aloe

:28:22.:28:23.

Blacc. # Solider in the city.

:28:24.:28:45.

# No job to occupy my time. # What else you expect me to do

:28:46.:28:50.

except crime. # It ain't stealing if it's

:28:51.:28:52.

somebody's fair. # Refuse to lose with this trouble

:28:53.:28:55.

on my mind. # Join it all.

:28:56.:29:08.

# Come knocking at my door? # Where the police don't see me

:29:09.:29:11.

anymore. # Hopped in that backseat so many

:29:12.:29:13.

times before. # Solider in the city.

:29:14.:29:16.

# I'm a solider in the city. # Solider in the city.

:29:17.:29:27.

# Trying to make some cheese out of all these things.

:29:28.:29:31.

# Want to find a queen but all I'm seeing is tramps.

:29:32.:29:35.

# Everyday feels like I'm away at boot camp.

:29:36.:29:38.

# Bad ass little kids busting out the street lamp.

:29:39.:29:54.

# Neighbourhood hustler come knocking at my door.

:29:55.:29:58.

# Got to pay my debts, need to settle the score.

:29:59.:30:01.

# Cause I don't want no more trouble from these fellas no more.

:30:02.:30:03.

# Solider in the city. # I'm a solider in the city.

:35:19.:35:25.

Horrors. So now our next guest, I met in the gash of the Avlon Hotel

:35:34.:35:37.

Germany, Switzerland and Austria he is one of their most popular jazz

:35:38.:35:42.

singers that they have. I hope you will enjoy with me the wonderful Mr

Roger Cicero. # Oh, yeah. Oh, baby. Um, umm...

Thank you, Little Dragon. Now I'm joined by Aloe Blacc! Great to

Thank you, Little Dragon. Now I'm been playing it very loudly. What

my fans don't generally hip-hop and rock, some things that

is -- I'm used to music where I have control over everything, but with

acting, you have to surrender yourself to the director. Your

:44:23.:44:33.

single, The Man, is that autobiographical? Not so much. I'm

:44:34.:44:40.

trying to capture that triumph over adversity, to give people something

:44:41.:44:43.

to sing when they want to make it to the next level. There is this

interpretation of Elton John's Your Song, not to be confused with a song

for you. Do you ever seen that? Could you do us a bit of that?

# I've been so many places in my life and time.

# I've sung a lot of songs, I've made some bad rhymes.

# I treated you unkindly, Harling can't you see?

:46:08.:46:13.

# That there is no one more important to me, baby, can't you see

through me? # Because we're alone now, and I'm

singing this song to you. The wonderful Aloe Blacc, we will

hear from him or later. Top voices at the piano. And now we welcome

# The body sleeps, but I. # Am not too proud to roll.

:47:27.:47:32.

# On the bad streets. # You'll know this when it's time to

go. # Strange.

# The soul you leave behind. # Dream. # The body leaves the bone.

# To sit upon the throne. # The battle waits for life.

# Dream. # Dream your sins away. # Sin your

# Heavenly demons. # Outside my window.

# Sent here to see. # Outside this world.

# See the way the valley. # Starts to grow.

:51:36.:51:42.

# Every movement. # Seems to be for you.

:51:43.:51:52.

# I can see your future in it. # I can see it there.

Thank you to the Horrors, ICU. Before that we enjoyed Afghan Whigs.

APPLAUSE And clock black.

:55:09.:55:12.

Let's hear some more of his great music.

:55:13.:55:20.

# Feeling my way through the darkness.

:55:21.:55:34.

# Guided by a beating heart. # I can't tell where the journey

:55:35.:55:37.

will end. # But I know where to start.

:55:38.:55:43.

# They tell me I'm too young to understand.

:55:44.:55:50.

# They say I'm caught up in a dream. # Well life will pass me by if I

:55:51.:55:54.

don't open up my eyes. # Well that's fine by me.

:55:55.:55:56.

# So wake me up when it's all over. # When I'm wiser and I'm older.

:55:57.:56:07.

# All this time I was finding myself.

:56:08.:56:08.

# And I didn't know I was lost. # So wake me up when it's all over.

:56:09.:56:21.

# When I'm wiser and I'm older. # All this time I was finding

# Wake me up # Wake me up

:56:51.:57:00.

# Wake # I tried carrying the weight of the

:57:01.:57:07.

world. # But I only have two hands.

:57:08.:57:13.

# Hope I get the chance to travel the world.

:57:14.:57:19.

# But I don't have any plans. # Wish that I could stay forever

:57:20.:57:23.

this young. # Not afraid to close my eyes.

:57:24.:57:31.

# Life's a game made for everyone. # And love is the prize.

:57:32.:57:39.

# So wake me up when it's all over. # When I'm wiser and I'm older.

:57:40.:57:45.

# All this time I was finding myself.

:57:46.:57:51.

# And I didn't know I was lost. # So wake me up when it's all over.

Thank you, Aloe Blacc, with Week Me Up. That is always got time for now,

:58:48.:59:08.

and we will be back on Tuesday with Kasabian and much much more. But I

:59:09.:59:14.

think now we should finish off with a bit of a groove. Have you got a

:59:15.:59:24.

couple of cords? Make a wish! Make a wish and it comes true. So, thank

:59:25.:59:28.

:59:29.:59:36.

beautiful knees up with Aloe Blacc, with the Horrors, with Roger

:59:37.:59:50.

Cicero. The brilliant Little Dragon. And the Afghan Whigs. Thank

:59:51.:00:06.

you, Viv Albertine, we love you madly, see you later.
