-I said, "Let me buy you a drink."

-I felt sorry for him.

-"What can I get you?"

-I asked him in the pub.

-"Double whisky," he said.

-I gave him a double whisky.

-I asked him, "What are you doing?"

-"Fishing," he replied.

-"Have you caught a lot?"

-I asked him.

-"You're the fifth today."

-Are you OK, children?

-Do you like Mathematics?

-No!

-Nor me!

-When I was in school...

-..my teacher often

-posed Mathematical puzzles.

-The way children answer

-reflect their father's work.

-"What is seven plus eight?"

-asked the teacher.

-A farmer's son replied,

-he'd been shoplifting in Llandudno.

-He walked in as thin as a wafer...

-..and left like the Michelin Man.

-Taid told the doctor,

-"I can't help myself."

-"That's the trouble," said

-the doctor. "You do help yourself.

-"You don't pay for things."

-The doctor wrote a prescription.

-"Take a tablet three times a day.

-Taid committed a driving offence.

-He drives too quickly.

-And he's dangerous.

-"Where are you?" asked the AA man.

-Taid said, "The sign

-"That's Go Slow, you fool."

-"I thought it was a village

-by Loose Chippings," said Taid.

-The receptionist asked me, "Who's

-"Donald Trump?!" I said.

-"Yes. Donald Trump.

-He works for the Daily Post."

-"Donald Trump doesn't work

-for the Daily Post!" I said.

-"You're thinking of Eryl Crump."

-"Oh, yes. Him, too.

-They're coming to interview me."

-Taid told them

-about his African adventures.

-Eryl took down notes.

-"I was in Africa,

-on my own in the bush," said Taid.

-"I heard a roar behind me.

-"I looked round and saw a lion.

-"It was the biggest lion I'd seen.

-"He was slobbering.

-"So I ran away.

-The lion ran after me.

-"The lion almost caught up with me,

-but it slipped.

-"I got away from him.

-"I saw a house in the distance.

-"I ran towards the house.

-"The lion gave chase

-and almost caught me again.

-"It was breathing down my neck.

-"The lion slipped again.

-I made a beeline for the house.

-"I got there and slammed the door."

-"That's a good story."

-"I'd have filled my pants,"

-said Eryl.

-Taid said, "What do you think

-made the lion slip?"

-My daughter Nellie went to London.

-"I haven't heard from her for six

-months. Can you look for her?"

-I said, "There's not

-much chance of finding her."

-She said, "Please!

-She hasn't written a word.

-"I'm worried. She's been gone six

-months. I don't know what to do."

-I asked, "Do you have any idea

-where she is? Give me a clue."

-She said, "I have a postcode.

-"London WC1."

-There was a bit of a chance

-of finding her with the postcode.

-I said, "I'll look for Nellie

-in London WC1, Mrs Dunn."

-So I went to London on the train.

-I got off the train and went

-up and down a lot of stairs.

-Then I saw a sign, WC.

-The daughter lived in WC1.

-I followed the WC sign...

-..and went down these stairs.

-She lived in Number 1.

-There were a lot of cubicles.

-Nellie, Mrs Dunn's daughter,

-had to be there.

-I knocked on the door, no answer.

-I knew there was someone in,

-I heard groans

-I knocked again, still no answer.

-There was a gap at the bottom.

-I put my head under it.

-I asked, "Are you Nellie Dunn?"

-The answer came, "Yes.

-"But there's no paper."

-I said, "That's no excuse for

-not writing to your poor mother."

-I said, "It must stop in Prestatyn.

-My wife's waiting for me."

-He said, "No chance." By now, I was

-on the train, travelling at speed.

-I said, "You must

-stop in Prestatyn!"

-He said, "I told you the train

-doesn't stop there on Wednesday."

-I asked, "Can you help?

-I must get off in Prestatyn."

-He said, "Let me think."

-In a while, he said,

-"I've had a brainwave.

-"I'll ask the driver to slow down.

-"I'll hold you out of the window.

-"You have to pretend to run.

-"When I think you're going the same

-speed as the train, I'll drop you."

-I was desperate

-to get off in Prestatyn.

-I said, "We'll try that."

-He said, "I'll tell you when

-we're ten miles from Prestatyn."

-He came back later and said, "Ready?

-I've told the driver to slow down.

-"Come on."

-He grabbed my hair.

-I was lighter in those days.

-He held me out of the window

-like this and said, "Run faster."

-My legs are short

-but I tried to hurry.

-He said, "So long!"

-I must have been going very fast.

-I was passing the train!

-Another porter grabbed my hair

-and pulled me in.

-He said, "You're lucky. We don't

-stop in Prestatyn on Wednesday."

-Sadly, our evening

-is drawing to an end.
