Hello, and welcome back to the beautiful | 0:00:18 | 0:00:20
but slightly overcast Gower peninsula in Wales | 0:00:20 | 0:00:23
for the second day of our competition, | 0:00:23 | 0:00:25
and it promises to be a dramatic climax. | 0:00:25 | 0:00:28
And it has taken a bit of a turn for the worse, the weather. | 0:00:28 | 0:00:31
But we've got some hardy shepherds and some very hardy dogs, | 0:00:31 | 0:00:33
and that's all that matters. | 0:00:33 | 0:00:35
-And a couple of hardy presenters as well, to throw in. -Yeah. | 0:00:35 | 0:00:37
If you thought yesterday was tense, | 0:00:37 | 0:00:40
then today is going to get a whole lot tougher as we enter our final round. | 0:00:40 | 0:00:44
Our four national teams are back to battle it out for the title of | 0:00:44 | 0:00:48
One Man And His Dog Champions 2012. | 0:00:48 | 0:00:51
And today they face the Singles round. | 0:00:51 | 0:00:53
Matt and Gus will be on hand to explain everything you need to know as we go along. | 0:00:53 | 0:00:58
Indeed, but before we do get on with the competition, | 0:00:58 | 0:01:01
let's remind ourselves who made it to the pen and who got stuck in the shedding ring yesterday. | 0:01:01 | 0:01:05
We started with the Young Handlers round. | 0:01:05 | 0:01:08
Sean Corrigan from Ireland and his dog, Tex, started the competition off in fine style, | 0:01:08 | 0:01:12
not only taking the Young Handlers title, | 0:01:12 | 0:01:14
but dropping the least amount of points of all of the handlers so far. | 0:01:14 | 0:01:18
What a finish it was, and of course we then finished off with the Brace, | 0:01:18 | 0:01:22
that is one man and two dogs, where things really get interesting. | 0:01:22 | 0:01:26
England were first out. | 0:01:26 | 0:01:28
Michael Longton, then, walks out to the post, | 0:01:30 | 0:01:33
and making a bit of history here as the first handler on a live One Man And His Dog. | 0:01:33 | 0:01:37
Maximum points, that's brilliant. | 0:01:37 | 0:01:40
-This looks great. Oh! -There we are! | 0:01:40 | 0:01:44
Time to spare. | 0:01:44 | 0:01:46
Well, to me, John is the perfect handler. | 0:01:46 | 0:01:49
He's so well-known that in Wales they just say "JR". | 0:01:49 | 0:01:51
-Oh! -Oh, yes! -What a great job he's done. -John! | 0:01:53 | 0:01:57
Oh, dear me! Look at that! | 0:01:58 | 0:01:59
After a strong start, it's all over for John and his dogs. | 0:01:59 | 0:02:04
-Phenomenal brace competitor, is Ewan. -They're going to go well past. | 0:02:04 | 0:02:08
The dogs have crossed. The judges will be taking points off, here. | 0:02:08 | 0:02:11
Oh, my word. What can you say to Ewan? | 0:02:11 | 0:02:15
Frank won the International back in 1997. Oh, it's started. | 0:02:15 | 0:02:20
Now, here's the battle on. | 0:02:20 | 0:02:23
-Oh, dear! -Oh! It's happened again! | 0:02:23 | 0:02:26
So England win the Brace. | 0:02:27 | 0:02:29
What a day of trialling we had. It was so, so eventful, and let's have a look | 0:02:29 | 0:02:34
and see how things are looking on the leaderboard overnight. | 0:02:34 | 0:02:36
So we had Ireland out there at 178 points, | 0:02:36 | 0:02:39
one point ahead of England. | 0:02:39 | 0:02:42
Scotland, well, they are looking a little bit off the pace, 156, | 0:02:42 | 0:02:46
but Wales are sitting nicely there | 0:02:46 | 0:02:48
in third with 170. | 0:02:48 | 0:02:51
It's a close one, this. | 0:02:51 | 0:02:52
It's going to be a good competition, isn't it? Cos anyone can win with those scores. | 0:02:52 | 0:02:57
Anyway, here's the man who had his eagle eye on all the action. | 0:02:57 | 0:03:00
-It's our expert, Gus Dermody. -Hi. -Gus, we had so many comments yesterday, | 0:03:00 | 0:03:03
and I thought the same thing, that the winners yesterday were the sheep! | 0:03:03 | 0:03:08
-They were feisty! -I think you're right, they were really, really stroppy. | 0:03:08 | 0:03:11
Especially for the poor fellas running Brace. | 0:03:11 | 0:03:13
Do you think they're going to calm down a bit today because it's damp? | 0:03:13 | 0:03:16
Yeah, quite often the rain can just slow them down that little bit, | 0:03:16 | 0:03:20
so they could be steadier today. | 0:03:20 | 0:03:22
Hopefully not too much, though, cos we don't want it to be too predictable, do we? | 0:03:22 | 0:03:25
-It won't be, I'll guarantee. -Yeah, that's not going to happen. | 0:03:25 | 0:03:28
Well, now it's time to start the competition, so, Matt and Gus, | 0:03:28 | 0:03:31
I'm going to send you off to the commentary box. | 0:03:31 | 0:03:33
Yesterday I used voice commands, today I've improved my skills, I've got a whistle. | 0:03:33 | 0:03:36
-You are incredibly brave. -Is that the right way up? -That is the right way up, yeah. | 0:03:36 | 0:03:40
BLOWS INTO WHISTLE - NO SOUND | 0:03:40 | 0:03:42
-WHISTLES -Off you go. -I'm terribly confused now, I don't know what to do. | 0:03:42 | 0:03:46
Needed to practise that a bit, really. | 0:03:46 | 0:03:49
Once again we have our two judges, Shirley Cropper and Kenny Donald, | 0:03:49 | 0:03:53
primed on top of their tower in the drizzle, there, | 0:03:53 | 0:03:56
ready for the action. | 0:03:56 | 0:03:58
So let's get started. | 0:03:58 | 0:03:59
It's the Singles round, that's one man and one dog, | 0:03:59 | 0:04:02
but this time they've got two flocks of sheep to contend with. | 0:04:02 | 0:04:06
At the moment, Scotland are lying in fourth place, | 0:04:06 | 0:04:09
which means they are up first in the Singles. | 0:04:09 | 0:04:11
But with 150 points up for grabs in this round, | 0:04:11 | 0:04:14
anything could happen, and let me tell you, it probably will. | 0:04:14 | 0:04:18
So let's meet today's first competitor and his dog. | 0:04:18 | 0:04:21
Representing Scotland is someone who won the International just last weekend. | 0:04:21 | 0:04:27
So certainly a strong competitor to start with. | 0:04:27 | 0:04:29
It's Ian Brownlie with his dog Mo. | 0:04:29 | 0:04:32
I'm Ian Brownlie from Alloa in Scotland. | 0:04:36 | 0:04:38
I'll be running Mo in this year's One Man And His Dog. | 0:04:38 | 0:04:41
I live with my wife and family on a 120-acre stock farm, | 0:04:43 | 0:04:48
and we have 600 cross sheep. | 0:04:48 | 0:04:50
The weather's quite unpredictable, and I think it gets worse as each year goes past. | 0:04:52 | 0:04:56
Farming can be a difficult life, | 0:04:56 | 0:04:58
but there are days it gives you great satisfaction. | 0:04:58 | 0:05:01
I started running dogs when I was 11 years old, | 0:05:02 | 0:05:06
and ran for five and six years, but became distracted as a teenager | 0:05:06 | 0:05:10
with the usual distractions, and came back to it in later life. | 0:05:10 | 0:05:15
Mo is four years old. | 0:05:15 | 0:05:17
She was bred here, bred her myself, and she's a great nature, | 0:05:17 | 0:05:23
she's got a... Very intelligent, and good feel for the stock. | 0:05:23 | 0:05:27
I've five dogs that help me with everyday work on the farm. | 0:05:29 | 0:05:32
Their contribution is invaluable on a farm like this. | 0:05:32 | 0:05:36
The work's never done. | 0:05:36 | 0:05:38
I've been lucky enough to have been on | 0:05:39 | 0:05:42
One Man And His Dog Young Handlers many years ago, but unfortunately | 0:05:42 | 0:05:46
I missed out when I won the Scottish National a few years back, due to foot-and-mouth, | 0:05:46 | 0:05:50
so hopefully we'll make amends for it this year. | 0:05:50 | 0:05:52
Well, what a lovely shot of Mo, there, to finish that little film on, | 0:05:55 | 0:06:00
and no doubt Mo will look quite similar at the end of this round. | 0:06:00 | 0:06:03
But, Ian, then, to the post, with Mo. | 0:06:03 | 0:06:06
Looks like she's going off to the right-hand side. | 0:06:06 | 0:06:09
So Ian is International Supreme and Scottish National champion of 2012, | 0:06:09 | 0:06:14
but with a different dog. | 0:06:14 | 0:06:16
What a talented fellow he is. It's with another dog, but here I think | 0:06:16 | 0:06:20
it's his more consistent dog that he's running today, | 0:06:20 | 0:06:23
and she's called Mo. | 0:06:23 | 0:06:24
It's quite deceptive, the length of this outrun, isn't it, Gus? | 0:06:25 | 0:06:28
I mean, we were up there this morning | 0:06:28 | 0:06:31
having a good look back to the commentary box, | 0:06:31 | 0:06:33
and it is quite some way. | 0:06:33 | 0:06:34
Yes, yes it is, and it's rather wet down on the right-hand side. | 0:06:34 | 0:06:39
But she's come to the end of the outrun, now. | 0:06:39 | 0:06:41
Well, if you were watching the trial yesterday, | 0:06:41 | 0:06:43
it's a very similar start, | 0:06:43 | 0:06:45
so you've got the outrun where the dog runs all the way around | 0:06:45 | 0:06:47
the outside of the field, | 0:06:47 | 0:06:49
and then arrives behind the sheep for this, the lift. | 0:06:49 | 0:06:51
You can see them there standing at the post, | 0:06:51 | 0:06:54
and then they have to move away from that nice and gently, | 0:06:54 | 0:06:57
and this then starts the tempo for the rest of the run. | 0:06:57 | 0:06:59
So that a very, very nice lift indeed, | 0:06:59 | 0:07:01
and they'll walk all the way up the field | 0:07:01 | 0:07:04
and then through those gates that you can see in the centre of your screen. | 0:07:04 | 0:07:08
Yes, that was very impressive. | 0:07:08 | 0:07:09
Those sheep were ready to challenge the dog but she was up to the challenge, | 0:07:09 | 0:07:13
she didn't rush at them, she came on steady, | 0:07:13 | 0:07:15
and they backed off, they've turned and now they're under way. | 0:07:15 | 0:07:18
Judges' scores are in and look at that. What a start! | 0:07:18 | 0:07:23
20 out of 20 for the outrun, | 0:07:23 | 0:07:25
and 10 out of 10 for that lift. | 0:07:25 | 0:07:28
And going on track beautifully here, as well, on this, the fetch. | 0:07:28 | 0:07:32
A very calm aura, hasn't he, Ian, | 0:07:35 | 0:07:38
-the way he transfers that energy across to the dog. -He does. | 0:07:38 | 0:07:42
And she's quite steady. | 0:07:42 | 0:07:44
But the sheep, every time they stop, they'll challenge the dog. | 0:07:44 | 0:07:48
They're a strange breed, this particular group. | 0:07:48 | 0:07:52
But this is nice. Nicely positioned to come through the fetch gates. | 0:07:53 | 0:07:57
Look at that. Absolutely dead centre. | 0:07:59 | 0:08:01
And that's good. | 0:08:03 | 0:08:04
But this the difficult bit. | 0:08:04 | 0:08:07
I think the most difficult part of the trial is going to be | 0:08:07 | 0:08:10
-the next section. -Mmm. | 0:08:10 | 0:08:11
Yeah, you see Mo running with five sheep at the moment. | 0:08:11 | 0:08:14
That number is about to double | 0:08:14 | 0:08:16
as soon as they get to this white post, just ahead of them. | 0:08:16 | 0:08:19
And yes, Gus, talk us through what the idea is from here, | 0:08:19 | 0:08:23
because this is the challenge. This very, very moment here. | 0:08:23 | 0:08:27
Oh, that's good. That's an excellent start to the second outrun. | 0:08:30 | 0:08:34
So that a look-back command, because there's a second set of sheep | 0:08:36 | 0:08:39
at the top of the field that Mo had to turn around on her shoulder, | 0:08:39 | 0:08:42
then run all the way back | 0:08:42 | 0:08:44
to gather this second lot. | 0:08:44 | 0:08:46
So, there you can see 19 out of 20 | 0:08:46 | 0:08:48
for that first fetch. | 0:08:48 | 0:08:50
Mo runs all the way back on her second outrun, | 0:08:50 | 0:08:52
and then there'll be points for another lift as well. | 0:08:52 | 0:08:55
You can see Malcolm, our Head of Sheep, | 0:09:00 | 0:09:02
just at the very back of your shot with his dog Sammy, | 0:09:02 | 0:09:05
just holding the second little flock, and now they lead the field. | 0:09:05 | 0:09:08
IAN SHOUTS | 0:09:08 | 0:09:10
Now Ian's using his voice. | 0:09:10 | 0:09:12
Going very well indeed. Look at this. | 0:09:15 | 0:09:18
Second outing, second lift, 20 and 10. | 0:09:18 | 0:09:21
He's using his voice to emphasise these commands, | 0:09:21 | 0:09:24
to keep the sheep away from the second group, | 0:09:24 | 0:09:26
because they're going to pull like mad now to our right, | 0:09:26 | 0:09:29
-as they want to join the other sheep. -Away back. | 0:09:29 | 0:09:33
That is why he's talking to her. | 0:09:33 | 0:09:36
Here, here. Here, here, here. | 0:09:36 | 0:09:39
And now he's going to re-group the two lots of sheep. | 0:09:39 | 0:09:42
Walk up. | 0:09:42 | 0:09:43
Walk up. Atta girl. | 0:09:47 | 0:09:50
As you can see, some of the sheep in that flock have red collars on. | 0:09:50 | 0:09:54
There's three of them in the ten, | 0:09:54 | 0:09:56
and that comes into play a little bit further on in the trial, | 0:09:56 | 0:09:59
as you will see when we get to the shedding ring. | 0:09:59 | 0:10:03
Now they're all grouped up nicely, and coming towards Ian. | 0:10:03 | 0:10:06
He does use a combination of whistles and voice, | 0:10:08 | 0:10:12
and Mo reacts instantly to that. | 0:10:12 | 0:10:14
Walk up. | 0:10:17 | 0:10:19
A little bit of zig-zagging as they come up towards him, | 0:10:19 | 0:10:21
and the danger point is going to be as they start to go on to the drive | 0:10:21 | 0:10:26
and come to this end of the fetch, they may well challenge the dog. | 0:10:26 | 0:10:30
This is where they were awkward yesterday for the brace men. | 0:10:30 | 0:10:34
That's an awkward sheep on the outside there. | 0:10:34 | 0:10:36
She's stamping, she's going towards the dog. This is cheeky. | 0:10:36 | 0:10:40
But Mo's... Now, this is what we call power. | 0:10:40 | 0:10:42
The fact of that dog walking up to that sheep | 0:10:42 | 0:10:44
and backing her into the rest. That was tremendous. | 0:10:44 | 0:10:48
It's a pity the judges can't give bonus points for that. | 0:10:48 | 0:10:51
That was brilliant. That was brilliant. | 0:10:51 | 0:10:53
She's having another go, but I tell you what, | 0:10:55 | 0:10:57
Mo is saying "No, I'm in charge." | 0:10:57 | 0:10:59
And is she in charge! Now, that's good. | 0:10:59 | 0:11:02
Many a dog would have flown in and either gripped the sheep | 0:11:02 | 0:11:06
or gone down the side of the other sheep. That was really well done. | 0:11:06 | 0:11:09
So the sheep then off and running on to the cross drive. | 0:11:09 | 0:11:13
Idea here is for Ian and Mo to drive the sheep away from themselves, | 0:11:13 | 0:11:18
through the first set of gates there, then they'll cross horizontally, | 0:11:18 | 0:11:23
go right across in front of Ian to the second set of cross drive gates. | 0:11:23 | 0:11:27
Well, this is a good line towards the first drive gates. | 0:11:31 | 0:11:34
They need to be turned now towards the right. | 0:11:37 | 0:11:40
Mo will be coming round, she is coming round | 0:11:40 | 0:11:43
the outside of the gates, all ten sheep through the gates. | 0:11:43 | 0:11:47
And turning now on to the cross drive. | 0:11:47 | 0:11:51
Just have a look for the second fetch. | 0:11:51 | 0:11:54
It's very good indeed, look at that! | 0:11:54 | 0:11:56
20 out of 20, just one point dropped in the whole round so far. | 0:11:56 | 0:12:02
Well, Scotland are really challenging now. | 0:12:02 | 0:12:04
My word, they might have started the lowest, | 0:12:04 | 0:12:06
but this is going to take some beating. | 0:12:06 | 0:12:08
Yeah, Scotland were lying in fourth overnight. | 0:12:10 | 0:12:13
So this, yesterday, proved to be the trickiest part of the course. | 0:12:15 | 0:12:21
Yes. He's on line, but the difficult bit is that Mo is on the inside, | 0:12:21 | 0:12:27
she's got to go right the way round when the time comes, | 0:12:27 | 0:12:29
and turn the sheep fast to get them through those gates. | 0:12:29 | 0:12:34
There she is coming through the trees, coming round. | 0:12:34 | 0:12:37
-It's looking good. -By, that's impressive! -It's looking very good. | 0:12:37 | 0:12:41
Another challenge at the back, she's got to watch these others. | 0:12:41 | 0:12:45
That might let that back sheep have some false confidence, | 0:12:45 | 0:12:49
in that it thought she was walking away. | 0:12:49 | 0:12:51
But she was going on the commands, to push the other sheep round. | 0:12:51 | 0:12:55
Here we are, here she is challenging again. | 0:12:55 | 0:12:57
Go on, Mo. Nice and steady. | 0:13:00 | 0:13:03
-Well, she is a bad, awkward sheep, this one. -Walk up. | 0:13:03 | 0:13:07
-Oh! Ooh. -I tell... | 0:13:07 | 0:13:10
-Oh! Well! -Now then. | 0:13:10 | 0:13:12
There was a little bit, there, of contact. | 0:13:12 | 0:13:15
But I think the judges might let it go, | 0:13:15 | 0:13:17
because it was actually a bit of self-defence, that, Gus. | 0:13:17 | 0:13:20
It certainly was, it certainly was. | 0:13:20 | 0:13:23
It was hard work, she did everything she could, | 0:13:23 | 0:13:26
but the sheep was going to challenge her. | 0:13:26 | 0:13:28
Lie down. Away. Lie down. Come out. | 0:13:28 | 0:13:32
OK, so now we have the ten sheep into this ring, | 0:13:32 | 0:13:34
the idea is to take one of the sheep with a red collar | 0:13:34 | 0:13:38
away from the rest of the bunch. | 0:13:38 | 0:13:40
There's three in there with collars. | 0:13:40 | 0:13:42
As calm as you like, Ian will just gently pick his moment, | 0:13:45 | 0:13:49
try and get a little bit of separation, then call Mo into him. | 0:13:50 | 0:13:53
Here's the one on the right. | 0:13:55 | 0:13:57
-Away, away. -Just three points lost on that cross drive. | 0:13:58 | 0:14:02
Lie down. Away back. | 0:14:02 | 0:14:05
So four lost altogether so far. Incredibly impressive. | 0:14:05 | 0:14:08
This looks good, Gus. | 0:14:08 | 0:14:09
The sheep have got to stay within this ring, | 0:14:09 | 0:14:12
so he's right on the edge of the ring here, | 0:14:12 | 0:14:14
they've got to be in when he calls Mo through for that single sheep. | 0:14:14 | 0:14:17
So he's going closer now into the ring. | 0:14:20 | 0:14:23
Away back. Lie down. Stay. Away. | 0:14:26 | 0:14:28
Lie down, walk up. | 0:14:30 | 0:14:32
3.5 minutes, Gus, left to single one of these off and pen. | 0:14:32 | 0:14:35
These aren't going to be easy, they're tucking into the middle. | 0:14:35 | 0:14:40
Lie down, lie down. | 0:14:40 | 0:14:42
The instant he asks her through, she'll come, | 0:14:42 | 0:14:44
but it's just a matter of trying to prise this one ewe on to the end. | 0:14:44 | 0:14:48
He's in with an opportunity here. | 0:14:48 | 0:14:51
Get up, get up. | 0:14:51 | 0:14:52
But the other collared ewe's come, and she's facing the dog. | 0:14:57 | 0:15:00
-It is just one. -You can only take the one. Here he is, | 0:15:02 | 0:15:05
he's asked her in, and she's taken it | 0:15:05 | 0:15:07
and the judges I think have accepted it. | 0:15:07 | 0:15:09
Sounded like it. | 0:15:09 | 0:15:11
So that's good. That's good. | 0:15:11 | 0:15:15
Regroup the sheep in the shedding ring. | 0:15:16 | 0:15:19
So Ian there just checking his watch, | 0:15:19 | 0:15:21
I think he cleverly started his stopwatch as the round began, | 0:15:21 | 0:15:25
so he knows exactly how much time he's got. | 0:15:25 | 0:15:27
He often does time himself, yes. | 0:15:27 | 0:15:29
It's 10 out of 10 for that single. | 0:15:31 | 0:15:34
This is going to be very, very difficult to beat. | 0:15:34 | 0:15:36
I just hope that this consistency can continue at the pen. | 0:15:36 | 0:15:41
The trial will be over as soon as Ian and Mo put all of these sheep | 0:15:41 | 0:15:45
into this pen and close the gate. | 0:15:45 | 0:15:47
On your feet. | 0:15:47 | 0:15:49
Well, they're nice and steady. They're well bunched, | 0:15:49 | 0:15:51
they're going slightly uphill towards the open gate. | 0:15:51 | 0:15:55
-Come out. -She's got to get right the way round | 0:15:58 | 0:16:01
and stop the sheep going down the side. | 0:16:01 | 0:16:03
He could have a leader there. The ewe that was looking round. | 0:16:04 | 0:16:09
Gently does it. She's going in, she's taking the others with her. | 0:16:10 | 0:16:14
And there goes the last one in now, and there we are. | 0:16:15 | 0:16:18
Now that is going to really take some beating. | 0:16:18 | 0:16:21
That is very, very, very, VERY impressive | 0:16:21 | 0:16:25
and a tough act to follow. | 0:16:25 | 0:16:26
Every single one of those handlers that's to come knows | 0:16:26 | 0:16:29
what a difficult job they've got to do to try and beat him. | 0:16:29 | 0:16:33
However, as far as countries are concerned, | 0:16:33 | 0:16:35
Scotland were way off the mark with 158, down in fourth. | 0:16:35 | 0:16:39
But the comeback is on. | 0:16:41 | 0:16:43
Look at that. Look at the scores! | 0:16:43 | 0:16:45
Only dropped one point on the first fetch, | 0:16:45 | 0:16:47
three on that drive. | 0:16:47 | 0:16:49
Just incredible. 146/150. | 0:16:50 | 0:16:54
-Ian, you must be very pleased with that. -Pretty pleased, yeah. | 0:16:56 | 0:17:00
That was a fabulous round. I mean, you've just won the international, | 0:17:00 | 0:17:04
that could very well win you the singles today. | 0:17:04 | 0:17:07
We'll wait and see. It's very early. | 0:17:07 | 0:17:09
The sheep are tremendous now for some reason, | 0:17:09 | 0:17:11
whether it's the rain, I don't know. | 0:17:11 | 0:17:12
-You say that, but one was being a bit standoffish! -She was a little naughty! | 0:17:12 | 0:17:16
We were really impressed when we were watching it, | 0:17:16 | 0:17:19
how well Mo did with that stroppy sheep. | 0:17:19 | 0:17:22
Yeah, she's more patience than I have. | 0:17:22 | 0:17:24
Complete control, the way that the dog looked at the sheep | 0:17:24 | 0:17:27
-and said "No, I'm in charge." -Yeah, yeah. Typical woman. | 0:17:27 | 0:17:30
-Does she always work so well? -Usually, yes. | 0:17:30 | 0:17:33
-Do you know how many points you dropped? Have a guess. -Not a clue. | 0:17:33 | 0:17:36
It was a remarkable round. It was nearly perfect. | 0:17:36 | 0:17:40
-You dropped four points, 146... -Whoa! | 0:17:40 | 0:17:44
..out of 150. That is going to be extremely difficult to beat. | 0:17:44 | 0:17:49
-A great score for Scotland, and as I say... -We need one! | 0:17:49 | 0:17:52
You should be very pleased. And you did it in a very quick round as well, with time to spare. | 0:17:52 | 0:17:56
I saw you looking at your stopwatch at one stage, | 0:17:56 | 0:17:58
you were keeping an eye on the time. | 0:17:58 | 0:18:00
A good round, a good start to One Man And His Dog, the singles round. | 0:18:00 | 0:18:03
-Well done. -Thanks very much. | 0:18:03 | 0:18:05
Very nice to have an international champion to rely on, Gus, | 0:18:05 | 0:18:08
to come out. He started the round, it was so beautiful, | 0:18:08 | 0:18:11
and the pace of it was just perfect. | 0:18:11 | 0:18:14
It was nice and steady, it wasn't rushed, | 0:18:14 | 0:18:17
and that is how he just set the tempo. | 0:18:17 | 0:18:19
Yes, she's very careful. | 0:18:19 | 0:18:21
The sheep might think it's in with a chance, | 0:18:21 | 0:18:23
but look at this for the dog for power. | 0:18:23 | 0:18:25
How she can walk on to that nose to nose, | 0:18:25 | 0:18:28
and back she goes into the rest of them. | 0:18:28 | 0:18:30
I mean, look. Just... "Do not mess with me," is what Mo said. | 0:18:31 | 0:18:35
And it happened a few times as well. | 0:18:35 | 0:18:38
But it says a lot for the dog, to actually keep its composure. | 0:18:38 | 0:18:41
Yes. Yes. | 0:18:41 | 0:18:43
Now, into the shedding ring, a choice of three, | 0:18:43 | 0:18:46
but can only take the one. | 0:18:46 | 0:18:48
The instant that he asked her in, look at this, straight onto her. | 0:18:48 | 0:18:51
That ewe didn't want to come away, but my word, she did. | 0:18:51 | 0:18:54
And indeed, it just continued on, | 0:18:56 | 0:18:58
all the way to the end of that round. | 0:18:58 | 0:19:00
And what... That is a textbook pen, to be honest. | 0:19:00 | 0:19:03
It doesn't get much better than that. | 0:19:03 | 0:19:05
No, that was a brilliant finish to a brilliant round. | 0:19:05 | 0:19:09
What a fabulous start to the singles! | 0:19:09 | 0:19:12
That shows you how it should be done. A near-perfect round. | 0:19:12 | 0:19:15
And it's going to be very difficult to beat that. | 0:19:15 | 0:19:18
I bet the other teams are quaking in their boots. Who's up next? | 0:19:18 | 0:19:22
Representing Wales is someone who's been a winner on One Man And His Dog | 0:19:22 | 0:19:26
as a Young Handler in 1994, at the tender age of 13. | 0:19:26 | 0:19:31
Will he be as lucky today? Well, let's meet him. It's Kevin Evans. | 0:19:31 | 0:19:35
My name is Kevin Evans. I'm from Brecon in South Wales. | 0:19:39 | 0:19:42
In One Man And His Dog this year, I'll be running Greg. | 0:19:42 | 0:19:46
I was brought up on the family farm here in Libanus, close to Brecon. | 0:19:46 | 0:19:49
We graze 300 sheep, it's a hill breed, the Brecon Hill Cheviot. | 0:19:49 | 0:19:53
# Come down from the mountain | 0:19:53 | 0:19:56
# You have been gone too long... # | 0:19:56 | 0:19:59
My father, when he's not training dogs, | 0:19:59 | 0:20:02
he's out doing all the sheep work on the farm. Every day, | 0:20:02 | 0:20:05
he has to go to the mountain to raise the sheep up. They're a hefted flock, | 0:20:05 | 0:20:09
living up on the Brecon Beacons, they always head back for the home farm. | 0:20:09 | 0:20:12
So you've got to go up there | 0:20:12 | 0:20:14
and push them back up to the good grass. | 0:20:14 | 0:20:17
I'm a builder by trade. | 0:20:17 | 0:20:18
But I'm spending more and more time at home on the family farm, | 0:20:18 | 0:20:21
helping run the farm, training and breeding dogs. | 0:20:21 | 0:20:24
Greg is four years old now. He's fairly solid and cool. | 0:20:26 | 0:20:30
He's a good all-rounder really. | 0:20:30 | 0:20:32
And he's been a very lucky dog for me in trials. | 0:20:32 | 0:20:35
I've been on One Man And His Dog as a Young Handler. | 0:20:36 | 0:20:39
It seems like a long time ago now. | 0:20:39 | 0:20:41
'Look at the concentration on his face.' | 0:20:41 | 0:20:44
Me and Michael Longton both had really good runs, | 0:20:44 | 0:20:47
but that day I was lucky enough to win. | 0:20:47 | 0:20:49
'In they go. And the gate shuts behind them. Very good.' | 0:20:49 | 0:20:54
I'm looking forward to representing Wales on One Man And His Dog. | 0:20:54 | 0:20:58
I hope everything goes OK and I don't let the side down. | 0:20:58 | 0:21:00
From the boy to the man, and as you can see, | 0:21:05 | 0:21:07
Kevin's grown up a little bit. | 0:21:07 | 0:21:09
And as we saw in that little film, he was planning to run Greg, | 0:21:09 | 0:21:11
but unfortunately Greg is injured. So this is Jimmy, | 0:21:11 | 0:21:16
and Jimmy has been a European nursery or young dog champion. | 0:21:16 | 0:21:20
So he's got a good pedigree, Gus. | 0:21:20 | 0:21:23
Looking forward to seeing how he runs. | 0:21:23 | 0:21:25
He's gone off to the right-hand side, gone wide as well, | 0:21:25 | 0:21:28
all the way around the outside of the trees. | 0:21:28 | 0:21:30
A very sharp dog, a very fast dog. | 0:21:30 | 0:21:33
And he'll certainly give a good challenge to the last run. | 0:21:33 | 0:21:37
As he goes down the right-hand side against the wood. | 0:21:37 | 0:21:41
He was up against Michael Longton in the Young Handlers way back when, | 0:21:44 | 0:21:48
-and there he is again, looking on. -Another fella that's grown up! -Yes. | 0:21:48 | 0:21:53
-Michael, of course, running the brace. -And did very well. | 0:21:53 | 0:21:57
So the brakes are on for Jimmy as he's halted behind. | 0:21:57 | 0:22:01
Good outrun. There's the lift. | 0:22:01 | 0:22:03
A bit of a sharper lift than maybe the last run, Ian Brownlie's lift. | 0:22:09 | 0:22:15
But they're well under control, they're coming in nice and steady. | 0:22:15 | 0:22:20
-That's a good line as well. -It is that, the dog's on his feet. | 0:22:22 | 0:22:26
He is showing good balance, good control. | 0:22:28 | 0:22:31
Working fairly close to them. | 0:22:31 | 0:22:33
20 out of 20 for that very wide outrun, | 0:22:37 | 0:22:40
and as Gus said, a sharper lift. But still, maximum points. | 0:22:40 | 0:22:44
Yes. So another brilliant start. | 0:22:44 | 0:22:47
-Whoops! -Oh, have I spoken too soon? | 0:22:47 | 0:22:51
Yes! Three go round the side of the fetch gate. | 0:22:51 | 0:22:54
Just that little spurt of energy then. | 0:22:54 | 0:22:57
They might have got slightly spooked by those gates | 0:22:57 | 0:22:59
-and decided to just part company. -Yes, yes. | 0:22:59 | 0:23:02
Just that little bit of extra pressure that was on, | 0:23:02 | 0:23:05
and they flirted round. | 0:23:05 | 0:23:06
Now he's asked it back, and he'll have to watch, | 0:23:06 | 0:23:09
that's the second request. | 0:23:09 | 0:23:11
Now he's asked him round and he's going extremely wide. | 0:23:11 | 0:23:15
He's crossed the lane. He's looking in. | 0:23:15 | 0:23:18
He's going to do a wide outrun round to get the second group of sheep. | 0:23:18 | 0:23:22
He could lose a few points for going a little bit too wide. | 0:23:24 | 0:23:28
But he's on line now, and coming in behind them. | 0:23:28 | 0:23:32
I tell you, Kevin will be very pleased that | 0:23:32 | 0:23:34
he's looking over the right shoulder. | 0:23:34 | 0:23:36
If he'd have been looking over his left, he could have lost him. | 0:23:36 | 0:23:40
Certainly. But now he's coming down the field. | 0:23:40 | 0:23:44
So that first fetch from the top posts, the middle there, was 14/20. | 0:23:46 | 0:23:52
-Points deducted for the sheep that didn't go through the gates. -Yes. | 0:23:52 | 0:23:57
So he's got a lot to try and do to make up now. | 0:23:57 | 0:23:59
Wales were third overnight. | 0:24:02 | 0:24:04
For the second outrun, he gets two points lost. | 0:24:09 | 0:24:12
A little bit too wide, but maybe it was the second call | 0:24:12 | 0:24:15
that lost him those points, and then 10 out of 10 for the lift. | 0:24:15 | 0:24:18
Yes, he didn't go back instantly, | 0:24:18 | 0:24:20
and that's why just a couple of points. | 0:24:20 | 0:24:22
When he did go back, it was OK, rather wide, | 0:24:22 | 0:24:25
but he did go back OK. | 0:24:25 | 0:24:26
Now he's got these sheep settled, | 0:24:26 | 0:24:28
this time they're going right through the middle, | 0:24:28 | 0:24:30
all five of them, as they come through the fetch gates | 0:24:30 | 0:24:35
towards the first group of five sheep. | 0:24:35 | 0:24:38
And the girls at the front look very relaxed at the moment! | 0:24:38 | 0:24:42
Just taking on a bit of grass. | 0:24:42 | 0:24:44
As the remaining five join the party. | 0:24:44 | 0:24:48
Well, there we are, nice and steady. | 0:24:53 | 0:24:55
Kevin just checking left and right, seeing how much room he's got, | 0:24:55 | 0:24:58
how he can bring these sheep around him | 0:24:58 | 0:25:01
and keep them as close as he can to him, and the handler's post, | 0:25:01 | 0:25:04
at the end of the fetch and before the drive starts. | 0:25:04 | 0:25:07
A gentle, but nice little pace on. | 0:25:09 | 0:25:11
He has got to get them all the way around him. | 0:25:11 | 0:25:14
And then off onto the cross drive. | 0:25:14 | 0:25:16
Stand. | 0:25:16 | 0:25:17
Yes, he is a younger dog and he's just that little bit sharper | 0:25:17 | 0:25:22
than Mo that we saw on the last competition. | 0:25:22 | 0:25:26
Here he is coming round. | 0:25:26 | 0:25:27
Let's see how he manages them at this crucial point. | 0:25:27 | 0:25:30
-There's no challenge here. -Stand. | 0:25:30 | 0:25:33
Or is there? No, no. | 0:25:33 | 0:25:35
They have accepted the dog and they are going onto the drive. | 0:25:35 | 0:25:39
Stand! Stand! | 0:25:39 | 0:25:41
Here's a reminder of how the drive works. | 0:25:42 | 0:25:44
Sheep will leave the post where Kevin is standing, | 0:25:44 | 0:25:47
go up through those gates, they will turn right and then this | 0:25:47 | 0:25:51
is where the course goes slightly uphill, past the woods and then | 0:25:51 | 0:25:54
bend round through the second gates and then into the shedding ring. | 0:25:54 | 0:25:58
Well, we had a stop but now he has got them going again, | 0:26:01 | 0:26:03
so he has got to try and keep this flowing all the time | 0:26:03 | 0:26:06
without going too fast. | 0:26:06 | 0:26:08
Spreading out a little as they come towards the first drive gates. | 0:26:08 | 0:26:12
HE WHISTLES | 0:26:12 | 0:26:14
20/20 for the second fetch. | 0:26:16 | 0:26:19
So lost a few so far, but it's a good comeback. | 0:26:19 | 0:26:24
It is - let's hope he's not turned too soon. | 0:26:24 | 0:26:27
No, he hasn't. He has them on a good line. Are they going to gather speed | 0:26:27 | 0:26:31
now as they go across from our left to right? | 0:26:31 | 0:26:34
Very difficult to monitor the speed of the sheep | 0:26:34 | 0:26:36
as they are going up there. | 0:26:36 | 0:26:37
Keep the dog still in contact so it can get round to bring them | 0:26:37 | 0:26:40
back in for the second cross drive gates, | 0:26:40 | 0:26:43
but not push them too fast so that they lose it. | 0:26:43 | 0:26:46
Absolutely. But the line is good, he's just holding the dog back here. | 0:26:46 | 0:26:52
Stand! | 0:26:52 | 0:26:54
-Will this dog go through the wood when the time comes? -Stand! | 0:26:54 | 0:26:58
-You need to go round the back of the first gate. -Stand! | 0:26:58 | 0:27:04
Of the cross drive gates. He's hanging on, waiting for the command. | 0:27:04 | 0:27:07
-Stand! -There it is. -Stand! | 0:27:07 | 0:27:11
He's going a little bit deep into the wood. | 0:27:11 | 0:27:13
He might be penalised here for a little bit too wide. | 0:27:13 | 0:27:16
But he's asking him now, asking him round. He's come through the wood. | 0:27:16 | 0:27:20
He's come round. | 0:27:20 | 0:27:22
-Stand! -And every one through. -Brilliant. | 0:27:22 | 0:27:26
He's very, very keen, isn't he, Jimmy? | 0:27:26 | 0:27:28
You can hear that Kevin is shouting at him quite a lot to stand, | 0:27:28 | 0:27:32
to put the brakes on. | 0:27:32 | 0:27:33
He's quite keen to get up on them. | 0:27:35 | 0:27:37
Yeah, he really is... um...a very sharp, quick dog. | 0:27:37 | 0:27:40
Stand! | 0:27:40 | 0:27:42
And the sheep are coming nicely now into the shedding ring. | 0:27:45 | 0:27:50
Stand! Stand! | 0:27:50 | 0:27:53
So it's the... This is the point where Kevin will be looking for | 0:27:54 | 0:27:58
that moment to just peel off one of the sheep with the red collars on. | 0:27:58 | 0:28:03
Stand. | 0:28:03 | 0:28:05
Out of 30, 29 scored for the cross drive. Doing very, very well indeed. | 0:28:05 | 0:28:10
What a comeback this is so far. | 0:28:10 | 0:28:12
Yes. Now, I've not seen this dog singling before, | 0:28:16 | 0:28:20
so I'm quite interested to see how he'll react | 0:28:20 | 0:28:23
when Kevin gets the opportunity. | 0:28:23 | 0:28:24
Stand! Stand! | 0:28:24 | 0:28:26
Keep. Stand. | 0:28:28 | 0:28:30
-At the ready. -Stand. -And moving. | 0:28:38 | 0:28:42
He's got a collared ewe on the end. | 0:28:42 | 0:28:44
Just trying to prise her off, but another ewe has blocked that path, | 0:28:44 | 0:28:48
so he's trying for the back two. | 0:28:48 | 0:28:50
Stand! Keep. Stand. Out. | 0:28:51 | 0:28:53
It's all about patience, this. Gus will have spent many a round | 0:28:53 | 0:28:57
commentating and finished up here in the shedding ring. | 0:28:57 | 0:29:00
But look at this, it's not going to happen. | 0:29:00 | 0:29:02
Stand! Stand! Stand! | 0:29:02 | 0:29:04
Stand! Stand! Stand! Stand! Look! | 0:29:04 | 0:29:06
Yes, the judges have accepted that one. | 0:29:12 | 0:29:14
It was difficult, he came in well. And it was a second challenge. | 0:29:14 | 0:29:19
He took that as well. | 0:29:19 | 0:29:21
-So the judges have accepted that single. -Stand. Out. | 0:29:21 | 0:29:25
HE WHISTLES | 0:29:25 | 0:29:27
Out. | 0:29:27 | 0:29:28 | |
Putting them back into the shedding ring before he goes to the pen. | 0:29:28 | 0:29:31
Stand. Stand. Stand. | 0:29:31 | 0:29:33
Maximum points for the single. | 0:29:35 | 0:29:36
Well, this is tight. This is tight. | 0:29:39 | 0:29:41
He has got over three minutes, so he doesn't need to run that much, | 0:29:42 | 0:29:45
but you never know. | 0:29:45 | 0:29:47
The trial that we saw yesterday - my word! | 0:29:47 | 0:29:49
Stand! | 0:29:49 | 0:29:51
We've got an awkward ewe here. | 0:29:51 | 0:29:53
If he can just keep them steady, keep them bunched, | 0:29:53 | 0:29:56
-he should be able to get them in. -Stand. | 0:29:56 | 0:30:00
Stand! | 0:30:00 | 0:30:02
There's the rest of the Welsh team watching. | 0:30:04 | 0:30:07
Stand! Stand! | 0:30:07 | 0:30:08
Stand! | 0:30:10 | 0:30:12
They're looking. Are they going to go in? | 0:30:12 | 0:30:14
Now he's got a lot of experience. | 0:30:15 | 0:30:20
Stand. | 0:30:20 | 0:30:21
Stand. | 0:30:23 | 0:30:24
Stand! | 0:30:24 | 0:30:26
-Stand! -And the first two are going in. | 0:30:28 | 0:30:31
Looks like the others are going to follow. | 0:30:31 | 0:30:33
Oh, yes! | 0:30:34 | 0:30:37
-In they go! Last one. Don't push it in with the gate - that's it. -Stand. | 0:30:37 | 0:30:41
And in they go, and another good run. | 0:30:41 | 0:30:43
It's helping with the more sheep that there are to pen, | 0:30:43 | 0:30:46
because the first one will go in. | 0:30:46 | 0:30:48
There's more options of sheep that are willing to go into a small area. | 0:30:48 | 0:30:51
It is, and if you've got the first two in, and the others | 0:30:51 | 0:30:54
are following, there's every chance you'll get the rest of the bunch in. | 0:30:54 | 0:30:58
As long as they don't spread, and he kept them tight there. | 0:30:58 | 0:31:01
Well, all in all, a very, very nice round indeed for Kevin and Jimmy. | 0:31:01 | 0:31:07
And there's confirmation. | 0:31:07 | 0:31:09
Look at that - not many points dropped at all. | 0:31:09 | 0:31:11
The first fetch there down to 14 and the second outrun 18. | 0:31:11 | 0:31:16
But apart from that, look at that. 29 out of 30 for the drive. | 0:31:16 | 0:31:19
Certainly one of the highest scores we've seen for the cross drive | 0:31:19 | 0:31:22
throughout this year's One Man And His Dog. | 0:31:22 | 0:31:24
So 141 out of 150 - just nine points dropped. | 0:31:24 | 0:31:30
I can't believe how well this is going! | 0:31:30 | 0:31:33
I don't want to speak too soon, but you must have been pleased with that, Kevin. | 0:31:33 | 0:31:36
Yeah, fairly pleased. I just missed some sheep on that fetch gate and a bit of trouble on the turn back, | 0:31:36 | 0:31:40
but apart from that, it went really well. Ian had put a lot of pressure on us with a great first run. | 0:31:40 | 0:31:44
He really did, didn't he? He dropped, what, four points? | 0:31:44 | 0:31:48
-Four it was, yeah. -He dropped four - do you want to know how many you got? | 0:31:48 | 0:31:51
-How many do you think? -I don't know. -Out of 150. -Maybe 138? | 0:31:51 | 0:31:55
-141. -Oh, right. Good. -Incredible. | 0:31:55 | 0:31:57
You did have an incredible score to beat. | 0:31:57 | 0:32:00
But as a team, who knows where that's going to put you on the leaderboard? | 0:32:00 | 0:32:03
-Yeah. -That was absolutely fabulous. You were watching yesterday. | 0:32:04 | 0:32:09
I can't believe how different the sheep are today. | 0:32:09 | 0:32:12
Yeah. But they're not easy. They still challenge the dog. | 0:32:12 | 0:32:15
But Mo, especially there with the in work, tremendously well. | 0:32:15 | 0:32:18
She had a real bad shape, and if she was a little bit worse, | 0:32:18 | 0:32:20
-she'd have been in trouble. -I think you were very lucky here with Jimmy. | 0:32:20 | 0:32:23
-Jimmy didn't get any challenges at all. -No, no. | 0:32:23 | 0:32:25
And I think it's important to remind the audience that they are the same | 0:32:25 | 0:32:30
group of sheep, different sheep all the time that we do each round with. | 0:32:30 | 0:32:33
But sheep are clever - they soon suss out a dog. | 0:32:33 | 0:32:35
I think the rain has calmed them all down a bit. | 0:32:35 | 0:32:37
But well done. That is a fabulous score, 141. | 0:32:37 | 0:32:40
Ian got 146, which is a really high score, almost perfect round. | 0:32:40 | 0:32:46
Almost unbeatable. Yeah. It was a great round. | 0:32:46 | 0:32:48
-But I'd be very proud of that if I was you. Well done. -Thank you. | 0:32:48 | 0:32:52
As you see, Kevin was saying there that Ian, | 0:32:52 | 0:32:54
he really piled the pressure on to go out. | 0:32:54 | 0:32:57
-And it's a lonely place, that post, when you head out there. -Yes, it is. | 0:32:57 | 0:33:01
But you know, he's a cool person. | 0:33:01 | 0:33:03
To have changed his dog, and done such a good round, | 0:33:03 | 0:33:08
it was tremendous, it really was. | 0:33:08 | 0:33:09
You wonder how much it must affect you, going in thinking, | 0:33:09 | 0:33:12
"I'm going in with this dog," but actually change at the last minute. | 0:33:12 | 0:33:15
But Jimmy did incredibly well as the European Nursery champion, | 0:33:15 | 0:33:19
but this was really the only moment where things went a bit pear-shaped. | 0:33:19 | 0:33:23
Yes, yeah. | 0:33:23 | 0:33:25
And knowing that that had happened, where the three sheep | 0:33:25 | 0:33:28
got round the fetch gates, that can put a lot of people off. | 0:33:28 | 0:33:30
It could put an awful lot off, and they'll not try hard enough. | 0:33:30 | 0:33:34
But he kept going. Then on the cross drive, he went deep into the wood. | 0:33:34 | 0:33:39
He nearly, nearly went too far, but he covered, and the back sheep, | 0:33:39 | 0:33:44
the sheep over on the left all went through | 0:33:44 | 0:33:48
and so that was a good recovery on the drive. | 0:33:48 | 0:33:50
And then on to the shed. Straight through there. Look at that. | 0:33:52 | 0:33:56
We wondered whether or not... | 0:33:56 | 0:33:58
It is one of those moments where the other sheep have to stay | 0:33:58 | 0:34:00
within the circle as the other one shed of. | 0:34:00 | 0:34:03
It is a bit like the offside rule. You are thinking, were they all in? | 0:34:03 | 0:34:06
Or were they out at the time? | 0:34:06 | 0:34:07
And actually, the judges turned round and raised their hands, | 0:34:07 | 0:34:10
they said, absolutely no problem. | 0:34:10 | 0:34:13
He did it twice and he did it well. | 0:34:13 | 0:34:15
But when it came to the pen, he'd just got them all settled | 0:34:15 | 0:34:19
and they just walked in. | 0:34:19 | 0:34:22
As calm as you like. | 0:34:22 | 0:34:23
For all those out there who wonder | 0:34:23 | 0:34:25
whether and not the sheep are affected by any of this, | 0:34:25 | 0:34:28
you can see how relaxed they are | 0:34:28 | 0:34:30
after trotting round for the entire time | 0:34:30 | 0:34:32
and they are nice and relaxed in the pen. | 0:34:32 | 0:34:35
Well, it is all going remarkably well. Will it continue to do so? | 0:34:35 | 0:34:40
There's only one way to find out and that's to go to our next team, | 0:34:40 | 0:34:43
which is England. | 0:34:43 | 0:34:44
Representing England is someone who has been competing for 35 years, | 0:34:44 | 0:34:49
but at the age of 73, this is his first time on One Man And His Dog. | 0:34:49 | 0:34:54
It's Alf Kyme. | 0:34:54 | 0:34:55
My name is Alf Kyme. | 0:34:59 | 0:35:01
I come from Rossendale in Lancashire and in the competition, | 0:35:01 | 0:35:04
I will be running Sally. | 0:35:04 | 0:35:05
I had a scrapyard, skip hire business. | 0:35:06 | 0:35:09
I've now sold it and retired onto a smallholding. | 0:35:09 | 0:35:12
I have always had an interest in sheepdogs | 0:35:14 | 0:35:17
and I've always wanted to run at trials. | 0:35:17 | 0:35:21
Come-bye. Sally is nine years old. | 0:35:25 | 0:35:28
She's a right nice girl, a good listener. | 0:35:28 | 0:35:29
She is a good flanker, she's a good outrunner. | 0:35:29 | 0:35:32
And it tries its best for me and its personality is first class. | 0:35:32 | 0:35:36
I reared Sally from a pup. | 0:35:39 | 0:35:41
I have five pups on at the moment, | 0:35:41 | 0:35:44
I am hoping one of those will be outstanding. | 0:35:44 | 0:35:47
I'll keep that and Sally will be retiring this year. | 0:35:47 | 0:35:52
I keep a few hens, a few chickens for ourselves, eggs for ourselves. | 0:35:52 | 0:35:59
I like to keep black Leghorn hens. The eggs are really tasty. | 0:35:59 | 0:36:03
I like to unwind by having a game of snooker. | 0:36:03 | 0:36:06
It is not like sheepdog trialling. | 0:36:09 | 0:36:12
Sheepdog trialling, you have to move the sheep, | 0:36:12 | 0:36:13
it's you, the sheep and the dog. | 0:36:13 | 0:36:16
With snooker, if you make a mistake, it is your fault. | 0:36:16 | 0:36:22
So Alf Kyme, then, 73 years old, with his dog. | 0:36:27 | 0:36:31
-This is Moss, not Sally, as he was planning to run. -Keep back. | 0:36:31 | 0:36:35
I tell you what, Moss is of like a shot. Off to the right-hand side. | 0:36:37 | 0:36:42
Alf won the English National last year. Back in 2011. | 0:36:43 | 0:36:47
But Moss running well here, Gus. | 0:36:49 | 0:36:52
Yes, Moss, his replacement door, | 0:36:52 | 0:36:54
is a half-brother to the dog he should've been running. | 0:36:54 | 0:36:58
So there we go, down the field. I think Alf has every confidence. | 0:36:59 | 0:37:02
Maybe Alf himself gets a bit worried | 0:37:02 | 0:37:04
about how things are going to happen, | 0:37:04 | 0:37:07
but we will see who keeps settled now - the dog, Alf or the sheep? | 0:37:07 | 0:37:12
That is a good start. | 0:37:14 | 0:37:15
Just passing head of sheep, Malcolm, keeping still at the bottom. | 0:37:18 | 0:37:25
Just a reminder that England were just one point | 0:37:26 | 0:37:30
behind Ireland after yesterday's competition. | 0:37:30 | 0:37:33
The Young Handlers and the Brace. | 0:37:33 | 0:37:36
So competition is really, really on between England and Ireland. | 0:37:36 | 0:37:42
-Little bit of zig-zagging. -Yes, he has gone from left to right. | 0:37:45 | 0:37:50
He needs to get these sheep into the centre. | 0:37:50 | 0:37:53
And they're now on the correct line, | 0:38:02 | 0:38:04
coming through the first set of fetch gates. | 0:38:06 | 0:38:09
Every time the sheep stop, they look round at the dog | 0:38:09 | 0:38:12
and the dog has to assert its authority | 0:38:12 | 0:38:15
and walk calmly up to these sheep. | 0:38:15 | 0:38:18
And then they will back off. | 0:38:18 | 0:38:19
If the dog doesn't assert that authority, | 0:38:19 | 0:38:22
then the sheep really will challenge. | 0:38:22 | 0:38:24
They are looking at the dog again now. | 0:38:24 | 0:38:28
So he has to walk on towards them and not bend off to the left. | 0:38:28 | 0:38:31
Through the middle of the gates. | 0:38:31 | 0:38:34
And coming now towards the white post. | 0:38:34 | 0:38:36
19/20 for the first outrun. 8/10 for that lift. | 0:38:39 | 0:38:45
And now they have arrived at the post, | 0:38:45 | 0:38:50
you will see Moss spin round and look for the sheep | 0:38:50 | 0:38:53
that are behind there. | 0:38:53 | 0:38:54
This is looking good. | 0:38:57 | 0:38:59
He brought him round to the right then asked him to look back, | 0:39:00 | 0:39:04
which he did, and then sent him off to the left. | 0:39:04 | 0:39:07
And he is giving room, coming round and covering the sheep. | 0:39:08 | 0:39:12
18/20, two points lost on that first fetch, | 0:39:12 | 0:39:15
that transfer of the sheep from the top white post, | 0:39:15 | 0:39:19
to the middle white post, and these ones are going! Look at the speed! | 0:39:19 | 0:39:22
I think it is because they can see the first group of sheep. | 0:39:22 | 0:39:25
The first group of sheep are bending over to the right by the wood. | 0:39:25 | 0:39:28
This is going to be difficult for Alf to keep that second group | 0:39:28 | 0:39:33
now that he has got to keep them on line through those fetch gates. | 0:39:33 | 0:39:37
They bend, they are pulling hard to the right, | 0:39:37 | 0:39:39
is it going to miss with all five? | 0:39:39 | 0:39:42
Yes, unfortunately - that's because those sheep | 0:39:42 | 0:39:44
are trying to chase after the first group. | 0:39:44 | 0:39:46
Wales now in with a really good shout | 0:39:52 | 0:39:54
because there wasn't that many points between England and Wales | 0:39:54 | 0:39:58
going into this round. They were down in third. | 0:39:58 | 0:40:00
18/20, that second outrun, 9/10 for the second lift. | 0:40:06 | 0:40:12
But this second fetch is going to be very costly. | 0:40:12 | 0:40:16
It is, unfortunately. That is just the luck of the draw. | 0:40:16 | 0:40:19
The sheep didn't keep still when he sent them back. | 0:40:19 | 0:40:22
Wales, Kevin Evans watching what is going on. Our last competitor. | 0:40:22 | 0:40:26
But they are just coming online now, | 0:40:26 | 0:40:29
so there won't be many points available for this second fetch. | 0:40:29 | 0:40:33
Well, he's got them online and the drive is going good. | 0:40:46 | 0:40:50
Second fetch. 12/20. | 0:40:53 | 0:40:56
It'll be very, very interesting to see what happens between England | 0:40:59 | 0:41:02
and Wales off the back of this as far as the standings are concerned. | 0:41:02 | 0:41:06
He needs to push these down a bit harder. He's done it. | 0:41:11 | 0:41:15
Starting to go towards the sheep, but they're all turned now. | 0:41:17 | 0:41:21
And he's starting, now, on the cross drive itself. | 0:41:25 | 0:41:29
Hoping that the sheep won't go too fast down the slight dip | 0:41:29 | 0:41:32
and then towards the rise | 0:41:32 | 0:41:33
and that they won't come too far up towards him. | 0:41:33 | 0:41:36
Because he's got to squeeze them through between the wood | 0:41:38 | 0:41:41
and the second drive gates. | 0:41:41 | 0:41:44
England and Wales looking on. | 0:41:47 | 0:41:49
HE WHISTLES | 0:41:51 | 0:41:54
Well, the pace is right. | 0:41:56 | 0:41:59
The collared ewe leading the way at the moment. | 0:42:00 | 0:42:02
He's go to be ready for this very quick left-hand turn | 0:42:02 | 0:42:08
to turn the sheep in. Alf whistling, not using a plastic whistle. | 0:42:08 | 0:42:13
The sheep are into the trees a little bit deep now. | 0:42:13 | 0:42:17
Don't turn them too soon, Moss. | 0:42:17 | 0:42:19
He has come back. There's been a stop. | 0:42:19 | 0:42:23
It's not in a good spot, this, with the trees surrounding the sheep. | 0:42:23 | 0:42:27
But they're moving again. Now he's giving the left whistle to him. | 0:42:28 | 0:42:32
Asking him... Oh, that's unfortunate. | 0:42:32 | 0:42:36
-Well, I don't know about the pen... -Oh, and he's headed them as well. | 0:42:36 | 0:42:41
..but the gate is open for Wales now. | 0:42:41 | 0:42:43
Well, he used whistle commands and then he used his voice command | 0:42:46 | 0:42:49
to try and speed Moss up to get him faster around this left turn | 0:42:49 | 0:42:52
but it didn't work and so all the sheep have missed the gate. | 0:42:52 | 0:42:57
And now they're coming back towards the shedding ring. | 0:43:00 | 0:43:03
Well, again, that'll be disappointing there. | 0:43:03 | 0:43:06
There will be a lot of points knocked off the drive. | 0:43:06 | 0:43:08
Moss, Moss, Moss. Lie down. | 0:43:09 | 0:43:11
So, on to the single. | 0:43:11 | 0:43:13
Just one with the red collar away from the group of ten. | 0:43:13 | 0:43:17
That's the idea. Patience is the key here. | 0:43:17 | 0:43:20
This, replicating a lot of the work that goes on in sheep farms. | 0:43:22 | 0:43:26
If you've got a sheep with a bad foot or something like that, | 0:43:26 | 0:43:29
that's why you would single that off. | 0:43:29 | 0:43:32
HE WHISTLES | 0:43:36 | 0:43:37
Come on, come on. | 0:43:37 | 0:43:40
Well, there was an opportunity there. | 0:43:40 | 0:43:44
15 out of 30 for the cross drive. | 0:43:44 | 0:43:46
Lie down. Lie down. | 0:43:46 | 0:43:49
Lie down. Lie down. | 0:43:51 | 0:43:54
Lie down. Lie down. | 0:43:55 | 0:43:57
Lie down. Stand there. | 0:43:57 | 0:43:59
So there's ten points available for the single itself. | 0:43:59 | 0:44:03
There was an opportunity. It wasn't taken | 0:44:03 | 0:44:06
and the net result was that all the sheep got out of the shedding ring | 0:44:06 | 0:44:09
so points will be lost. | 0:44:09 | 0:44:11
Sometimes it can be half a point or even a quarter of a point | 0:44:11 | 0:44:15
per sheep that goes out | 0:44:15 | 0:44:16
so he could have lost most of his available points for the single. | 0:44:16 | 0:44:21
But the collared ewes are in the middle | 0:44:21 | 0:44:24
so he's got to keep working them until he gets one onto the end. | 0:44:24 | 0:44:28
Stand there. | 0:44:29 | 0:44:31
Stand there. | 0:44:31 | 0:44:32
He's done just that now. | 0:44:32 | 0:44:34
Just moving gently round. | 0:44:38 | 0:44:40
Moss absolutely standing still until he gets the command. | 0:44:40 | 0:44:44
They were just out then. | 0:44:44 | 0:44:47
Lie down. Lie down. | 0:44:47 | 0:44:49
And the clock will be ticking away. | 0:44:49 | 0:44:51
12 minutes is the time that's allowed for this round. | 0:44:55 | 0:44:57
Lie down. Lie down. | 0:44:58 | 0:45:00
Well, England in real trouble here | 0:45:00 | 0:45:03
but this looks like a good, good single. | 0:45:03 | 0:45:07
Lie down. Lie down. Look back. | 0:45:07 | 0:45:11
Lie down. | 0:45:11 | 0:45:13
So he regroups the sheep. | 0:45:13 | 0:45:16
And now he is to put them into the pen. | 0:45:16 | 0:45:19
Lie down. | 0:45:19 | 0:45:21
It'll be interesting to see what the judges give for this single, | 0:45:25 | 0:45:29
because there were quite a few errors in the ring itself. | 0:45:29 | 0:45:33
He's got three minutes to put them in the pen. | 0:45:37 | 0:45:40
So he's plenty of time. | 0:45:40 | 0:45:42
Lie down. | 0:45:42 | 0:45:45
So, five out of ten. | 0:45:45 | 0:45:47
Lie down. Lie down. In here. | 0:45:47 | 0:45:50
Well, that's not too bad, actually. Not too bad. | 0:45:50 | 0:45:54
Makes you wonder what's going to happen with Ireland. | 0:45:54 | 0:45:57
-There is only a point in it between England and Ireland. -Oh, my word. | 0:45:57 | 0:46:01
Come-bye. | 0:46:01 | 0:46:04
And the sheep are turning onto the dog. | 0:46:04 | 0:46:06
Lie down. Come-bye. | 0:46:06 | 0:46:08
Lie down. Lie down. | 0:46:08 | 0:46:10
Lie down. In here. Get back. | 0:46:10 | 0:46:12
Lie down. Get back. | 0:46:12 | 0:46:15
Lie down. Lie down. | 0:46:15 | 0:46:17
Lie down. | 0:46:17 | 0:46:19
Lie down. | 0:46:19 | 0:46:21
Just trying to get them all to look in. | 0:46:21 | 0:46:24
It was interesting how, the previous two pens, | 0:46:24 | 0:46:27
all the sheep have looked in right from the edge | 0:46:27 | 0:46:29
of the shedding ring right to the pen | 0:46:29 | 0:46:32
but these are being rather stroppy. There's a little bit of milling. | 0:46:32 | 0:46:36
Lie down. | 0:46:36 | 0:46:38
Two minutes in time so he's got plenty of time but... | 0:46:38 | 0:46:41
Lie down. | 0:46:41 | 0:46:44
Lie down. Lie down. | 0:46:44 | 0:46:47
They're going on outside, they're going to go over. | 0:46:47 | 0:46:50
Oh, dear, oh, dear. | 0:46:50 | 0:46:52
He's having such a... It's like a real sticky round, isn't it? | 0:46:52 | 0:46:56
I mean, he's really, really struggling. | 0:46:56 | 0:46:59
Yes, he is, but he's a good dog. | 0:46:59 | 0:47:02
This dog is a good dog | 0:47:02 | 0:47:04
and it just shows you how things can alter from one round to another. | 0:47:04 | 0:47:08
Yeah. | 0:47:08 | 0:47:09 | |
Lie down. Lie down. Lie down. | 0:47:09 | 0:47:14
In here. Get back. Lie down. | 0:47:14 | 0:47:17
The dog is quite calm, but it's a combination of the handler | 0:47:17 | 0:47:21
and the dog and things are just not going quite right for Alf. | 0:47:21 | 0:47:26
Oh, and another breakaway. | 0:47:26 | 0:47:28
That's the thing, I mean, there's so many elements involved. | 0:47:28 | 0:47:31
You get a round, you know, that goes so smoothly and you go, | 0:47:31 | 0:47:34
"Oh, wow, it's so easy. Look how simple that is," | 0:47:34 | 0:47:36
and then, suddenly, you just throw in a rogue sheep | 0:47:36 | 0:47:40
or sometimes the style of the dog | 0:47:40 | 0:47:42
in comparison to the style of the sheep doesn't work out. | 0:47:42 | 0:47:44
Lie down. | 0:47:44 | 0:47:47
Come-bye. | 0:47:47 | 0:47:48
Now they are all facing the dog. | 0:47:48 | 0:47:51
We've got to get them all turning towards the pen | 0:47:51 | 0:47:53
and there's only 45 seconds left. | 0:47:53 | 0:47:55
Come-bye. Lie down. | 0:47:55 | 0:47:57
Oh, dear. | 0:47:57 | 0:47:58
You know, that time Moss did go that little bit hard onto the sheep. | 0:47:58 | 0:48:02
And so there was a burst. | 0:48:05 | 0:48:06
As you can see now there is 26 seconds to go. | 0:48:06 | 0:48:11
Lie down. | 0:48:12 | 0:48:14
Lie down. | 0:48:14 | 0:48:16
Alf will be getting quite anxious here. | 0:48:16 | 0:48:18
Lie down. Come-bye. Come-bye. Come-bye. | 0:48:20 | 0:48:23
I think he's in dead trouble now. | 0:48:24 | 0:48:27
Less than 10 seconds. | 0:48:27 | 0:48:29
Will they all rush in now? Will they? | 0:48:30 | 0:48:32
-It looks like a few are going. -Some are going in. | 0:48:32 | 0:48:35
It's getting near to time. Oh, no, that's done it. | 0:48:35 | 0:48:40
Time up! | 0:48:40 | 0:48:41
-Time is up. -Oh, dear, oh, dear, oh, dear. | 0:48:41 | 0:48:44
How disappointing for Alf and Moss for England. | 0:48:44 | 0:48:48
They struggled, they got round and at least | 0:48:48 | 0:48:51
they finished with some in the pen, Gus. | 0:48:51 | 0:48:53
They did, but unfortunately you've got to have | 0:48:53 | 0:48:55
all ten in to get it to count. What a shame. | 0:48:55 | 0:48:58
Well, we said it was a sticky round. | 0:48:58 | 0:49:02
Let's have a look at confirmation of the scores | 0:49:04 | 0:49:07
Obviously not what Alf would have wanted. | 0:49:07 | 0:49:10
No points for the pen | 0:49:10 | 0:49:13
and all the way through | 0:49:13 | 0:49:14
it was just a story of what could have been. | 0:49:14 | 0:49:17
But that, let me tell you, does some very drastic things | 0:49:17 | 0:49:21
to our leaderboard as far as the countries are concerned. | 0:49:21 | 0:49:24
So England will be behind Wales and Scotland. | 0:49:24 | 0:49:28
Alf, I feel I have an apology to make. I think it's my fault. | 0:49:29 | 0:49:33
I jinxed you because I said it was all going so smoothly | 0:49:33 | 0:49:36
and then, oh, dear, oh, dear me. | 0:49:36 | 0:49:38
What happened is the second lot of sheep... | 0:49:38 | 0:49:41
The first lot of sheep had moved over | 0:49:41 | 0:49:43
and the second lot of sheep pulled over to them | 0:49:43 | 0:49:46
and just upset everything and everything went wrong then. | 0:49:46 | 0:49:48
And is that what happens, | 0:49:48 | 0:49:49
because they were all spooked and he ran to the wrong end? | 0:49:49 | 0:49:52
All the other sheep had stopped mainly in front of the fetch gates. | 0:49:52 | 0:49:56
But them sheep of mine have run over that side | 0:49:56 | 0:49:58
so I had to flank my dog over quickly | 0:49:58 | 0:50:00
and it upset these sheep and everything went wrong then. | 0:50:00 | 0:50:04
And what about the end? | 0:50:04 | 0:50:06
We were willing you to get them in their pen in the time. | 0:50:06 | 0:50:09
Just one bad sheep there that just kept running off, | 0:50:09 | 0:50:13
so it's one of them things, you can't win every time. | 0:50:13 | 0:50:17
Alf, it can't have been easy going into that, | 0:50:17 | 0:50:19
knowing how good the two scores were before you. | 0:50:19 | 0:50:22
That's right, yeah, yeah. | 0:50:22 | 0:50:23
-Yeah, they were two good runs, weren't they? -Yeah. | 0:50:23 | 0:50:25
Full points of play to win it and that's how it goes, anyway. | 0:50:25 | 0:50:29
You know what? | 0:50:29 | 0:50:30
It would've been boring if everyone had been that brilliant. | 0:50:30 | 0:50:32
-Yeah. -Not that that's any consolation for you. | 0:50:32 | 0:50:35
My dog run well anyway. If it was anybody's fault it was my own, | 0:50:35 | 0:50:38
you know, but, as I say, the first lot of sheep run off | 0:50:38 | 0:50:42
and it pulled the second lot of sheep to | 0:50:42 | 0:50:44
and stopped under the trees. So, that's how it goes. | 0:50:44 | 0:50:47
I'll tell you what I love about you guys, though, is you're all, | 0:50:47 | 0:50:49
"Well, it didn't go so well this time but next time it'll go better." | 0:50:49 | 0:50:53
-Well, that's it. -Well, thanks very much for competing. -OK. Thank you. | 0:50:53 | 0:50:57
I guess it's just a shame that it happens on telly, Gus. | 0:50:57 | 0:50:59
Because you can go out in one trial | 0:50:59 | 0:51:01
and it goes absolutely beautiful for you and then you turn up | 0:51:01 | 0:51:04
the next day and it's a story as if | 0:51:04 | 0:51:06
you've never been on a trial field before. | 0:51:06 | 0:51:08
Yes, it's as if they were different sheep, really. But they weren't. | 0:51:08 | 0:51:11
It's just how they can react, yes. | 0:51:11 | 0:51:13
Well, a chance to just have a look at some of the moments | 0:51:13 | 0:51:17
from poor Alf's round. | 0:51:17 | 0:51:18
Well, the sheep got stuck in the woods, didn't they, really? | 0:51:18 | 0:51:21
Yeah, there was trouble there | 0:51:21 | 0:51:24
and he couldn't get the dog around fast enough so all ten sheep missed | 0:51:24 | 0:51:28
the second drive gate so a lot of points went tumbling off there. | 0:51:28 | 0:51:32
He managed to recover. | 0:51:32 | 0:51:34
You can see the dog comes all the way round in that come-bye direction | 0:51:34 | 0:51:38
and then manages, tries to recover a little bit. | 0:51:38 | 0:51:41
One sheep goes through but it just wasn't counted at the end, was it? | 0:51:41 | 0:51:45
No, he couldn't recover. He couldn't get that gate at all. | 0:51:45 | 0:51:50
In the shedding ring, he had the opportunity to take a ewe | 0:51:50 | 0:51:54
but unfortunately they got together, | 0:51:54 | 0:51:57
they all went out of the shedding ring | 0:51:57 | 0:52:00
and a lot of points lost there. | 0:52:00 | 0:52:03
This was, of course, this was an impressive single, when it came. | 0:52:03 | 0:52:07
That's how it should be done. Yes. The dog came through | 0:52:07 | 0:52:10
and there was no way that that sheep was going to get back. | 0:52:10 | 0:52:14
We had a bit of sheep jumping yesterday. | 0:52:14 | 0:52:17
One over the rope in the pen and another to jump back into the pen. | 0:52:17 | 0:52:20
We wondered if any of it would happen again today | 0:52:20 | 0:52:22
and she was keen to show off her prowess in the high jump as well. | 0:52:22 | 0:52:26
Yes, back to line dancing again. | 0:52:26 | 0:52:28
-But, of course, the clock was ticking by, wasn't it? -Yeah. | 0:52:28 | 0:52:32
And it's always hard, obviously, | 0:52:32 | 0:52:34
when you get some of the sheep in the pen, | 0:52:34 | 0:52:36
the others are then looking for an entrance, wandering round. | 0:52:36 | 0:52:39
Then they feel pressure from the dog and they're not keen to go back in. | 0:52:39 | 0:52:42
They're certainly not, no, and the trouble was then, | 0:52:42 | 0:52:46
eventually, that Alf was to run out of time. | 0:52:46 | 0:52:48
Well, a disappointing round for Alf, | 0:52:51 | 0:52:53
preceded by really amazing rounds from both Ian and Kevin. | 0:52:53 | 0:52:57
Let's see how our final country will do. Which is Ireland. | 0:52:57 | 0:53:00
And representing Ireland is someone who's always seen | 0:53:00 | 0:53:03
trialling as a hobby. | 0:53:03 | 0:53:04
It also his first time on One Man And His Dog. Let's meet him. | 0:53:04 | 0:53:08
It's Bobby Reid with his dog Chief. | 0:53:08 | 0:53:10
'I'm Bobby Reid from Castlederg, County Tyrone.' | 0:53:17 | 0:53:20
'I'm going to run Chief in this year's competition.' | 0:53:21 | 0:53:24
I'm living here now 20 years | 0:53:25 | 0:53:27
with my wife and family with a smallholding. | 0:53:27 | 0:53:31
A very nice place to live. | 0:53:31 | 0:53:32
Good valleys and hills and very good ground for grazing. | 0:53:32 | 0:53:35
MUSIC: "Buckets of Rain" by Bob Dylan # Buckets of rain, buckets of tears | 0:53:35 | 0:53:38
# Got all them buckets coming out of my ears | 0:53:38 | 0:53:41
# Buckets of moonbeams in my hand. # | 0:53:41 | 0:53:44
The weather's got so much worse here now, | 0:53:44 | 0:53:46
'I don't know if it's global warming or not | 0:53:46 | 0:53:48
'but it takes you longer doing a bit of work.' | 0:53:48 | 0:53:52
When you go out to do it you can't get it done with that much rain. | 0:53:52 | 0:53:55
'I started off trialling and I learned it all myself. | 0:53:56 | 0:54:00
'I bought a young dog. | 0:54:00 | 0:54:02
'He was 15 months when I bought him. | 0:54:02 | 0:54:04
'I trained him and I just kept in | 0:54:04 | 0:54:06
'until I got what I thought was the right one.' | 0:54:06 | 0:54:08
Chief is five years old now, coming. He is a good dog working with sheep. | 0:54:08 | 0:54:13
He has plenty of power and he's easy handled. | 0:54:13 | 0:54:17
He helps you in every way he can. | 0:54:17 | 0:54:19
This is the first time for me to be on One Man And His Dog. | 0:54:20 | 0:54:25
I'm excited and I'm going to give it my best shot. | 0:54:25 | 0:54:28
Bobby and Chief, the last team to go in this year's One Man And His Dog. | 0:54:34 | 0:54:40
The score he needs for Ireland to win is 134. | 0:54:40 | 0:54:45
It's very doable when you consider that we had 146, 141. | 0:54:46 | 0:54:52
HE WHISTLES | 0:54:53 | 0:54:55
And he's a good, consistent dog. He's been in the Irish team | 0:54:58 | 0:55:01
and got through to the International two years on the trot. | 0:55:01 | 0:55:05
Dog's just coming in, looked as if he was coming in a little bit | 0:55:05 | 0:55:08
as he went down the field. | 0:55:08 | 0:55:09
Whether he's opened out behind the wood. | 0:55:09 | 0:55:11
He is, he's going out to the outer fence so that's the better line now. | 0:55:11 | 0:55:15
So, he's well down the field now, | 0:55:15 | 0:55:18
going towards the five fresh sheep at the bottom of the field. | 0:55:18 | 0:55:21
WHISTLE BLOWS | 0:55:21 | 0:55:23
There's the whistle. It's the end of the outrun. | 0:55:23 | 0:55:25
By Jove, did he put the brakes on then? | 0:55:25 | 0:55:27
And that is the 'Get on' command as the dog comes towards the sheep. | 0:55:28 | 0:55:32
That's nice. That's good. | 0:55:32 | 0:55:36
-Just looking for a nice, gentle lift. -Now, who's going to win? | 0:55:36 | 0:55:40
And it's Chief. | 0:55:43 | 0:55:45
Now that is a good lift. So, a very, very good start for Bobby and Chief. | 0:55:47 | 0:55:53
Just a little bit sharp there as he came round. | 0:55:53 | 0:55:56
He'll have to just be careful. | 0:55:56 | 0:55:57
These sheep seem to spin onto a dog that does | 0:55:57 | 0:56:01
a very quick movement at the back so... | 0:56:01 | 0:56:03
Maximum score so far. | 0:56:05 | 0:56:06
20 out of 20 for the outrun, 10 out of 10 for that lift. | 0:56:06 | 0:56:10
-That's brilliant. -Look at the intent. | 0:56:10 | 0:56:14
These sheep are coming up the field. | 0:56:14 | 0:56:18
-Oops-a-daisy. -A bit of a bend. | 0:56:18 | 0:56:22
He's just that little bit sharp on some of his movements. | 0:56:26 | 0:56:30
It might upset this breed of sheep but we'll see. | 0:56:30 | 0:56:34
See how they just quickly move away from him. | 0:56:34 | 0:56:37
He was steady on the lift, | 0:56:38 | 0:56:39
but he's a little bit flirty coming down the field. | 0:56:39 | 0:56:41
So, the first set of five sheep just approaching that white post | 0:56:44 | 0:56:49
and as soon as they do, Chief will look back. | 0:56:49 | 0:56:51
Here we go. Let's have a look. See if he reacts. He's having a look. | 0:56:53 | 0:56:56
It's the second, third request. | 0:56:56 | 0:57:00
He's asking him again. | 0:57:00 | 0:57:04
Well, the first fetch score is in. | 0:57:05 | 0:57:07
But, 17 out of 20. | 0:57:07 | 0:57:09
A little bit of confusion here between dog and handler. | 0:57:09 | 0:57:11
He's in dead trouble here, because the dog wouldn't go back. | 0:57:14 | 0:57:18
And is it crossing? It's crossed. Oh, dear. | 0:57:18 | 0:57:21
So it could well be that he'll lose most of his second fetch. | 0:57:21 | 0:57:25
134 is the score that he needs. | 0:57:28 | 0:57:31
He's lost a lot of points there. | 0:57:31 | 0:57:34
And his second lot of sheep are going over towards the wood, | 0:57:34 | 0:57:37
so he's got problems, serious problems here. | 0:57:37 | 0:57:41
He's keeping calm. | 0:57:42 | 0:57:44
Now will those... That group that he's got now, | 0:57:44 | 0:57:47
are they going to pull like mad | 0:57:47 | 0:57:49
to the first group and try and get through the wood? | 0:57:49 | 0:57:51
You can see Sam, Malcolm's dog there, that she'd just passed, | 0:57:52 | 0:57:57
just holding the sheep in position at the top of the field. | 0:57:57 | 0:58:00
They're not helping at all. | 0:58:00 | 0:58:01
He's keeping them on a good line, but they're starting to run now. | 0:58:01 | 0:58:04
They're going to go after these other sheep. | 0:58:04 | 0:58:07
Will he be able to get his fetch gates? | 0:58:07 | 0:58:09
Because they'll really be pulling hard to our right. | 0:58:09 | 0:58:12
It'll be tight, this. | 0:58:12 | 0:58:13
Expect a low score for the second outrun. | 0:58:15 | 0:58:17
Yes, 1 out of 20. | 0:58:17 | 0:58:19
And 7 out of 10 for the second lift. | 0:58:19 | 0:58:22
Wow. Drastic, drastic. | 0:58:22 | 0:58:25
Yes, and it could be a miss coming up here, | 0:58:25 | 0:58:27
or are they going to flirt right the way across | 0:58:27 | 0:58:29
and off the other side? | 0:58:29 | 0:58:31
Two missed, three through. | 0:58:31 | 0:58:33
He's got real problems, | 0:58:33 | 0:58:35
because those sheep are desperate to get to that other group | 0:58:35 | 0:58:38
that they'd seen before. | 0:58:38 | 0:58:40
Now he's got to allow them to go across and also send Chief | 0:58:40 | 0:58:43
very hard round to his left and our right | 0:58:43 | 0:58:46
to cover both lots of sheep. | 0:58:46 | 0:58:48
He's still not done it yet. | 0:58:50 | 0:58:51
So the sheep are well off line. | 0:58:52 | 0:58:54
The dog's just round now. | 0:58:56 | 0:58:58
So the sheep are looking a little bit stressed now. | 0:59:02 | 0:59:05
Yes, yes, and they were so far off line, | 0:59:05 | 0:59:09
he's in dead trouble, really. | 0:59:09 | 0:59:12
But he's keeping calm. | 0:59:13 | 0:59:15
And they're all together now, | 0:59:19 | 0:59:20
and they're thinking of challenging the dog. | 0:59:20 | 0:59:23
Well, all the Welsh team are looking on | 0:59:25 | 0:59:27
and wondering how they're going to be faring now. | 0:59:27 | 0:59:31
But that was a good turn around the handler's post. | 0:59:31 | 0:59:34
That's it, yeah. Wales now in second place. | 0:59:36 | 0:59:39
So maybe just a moment there to let the sheep calm, settle, | 0:59:45 | 0:59:49
collect themselves before they head off on this cross drive. | 0:59:49 | 0:59:53
They do look a little bit panicked. | 0:59:54 | 0:59:56
They look very keen to go right and up the bank, | 0:59:56 | 0:59:58
but they're heading towards those cross drive gates | 0:59:58 | 1:00:02
at quite a lick. | 1:00:02 | 1:00:03
10 out of 20, that second fetch. | 1:00:04 | 1:00:08
I'll tell you what, Gus, looking at these scores, | 1:00:13 | 1:00:15
I'm not sure he can do this. I think Wales will have it. | 1:00:15 | 1:00:17
Nicely through the drive gates. | 1:00:21 | 1:00:23
And they're starting to gain speed now as they go on the cross drive. | 1:00:25 | 1:00:29
They don't know, but they are the champions. | 1:00:33 | 1:00:37
Lie down. | 1:00:37 | 1:00:38
He'll still keep trying, | 1:00:39 | 1:00:41
but they're going fast towards this second drive gate. | 1:00:41 | 1:00:44
Are they going to go shooting past round the back? | 1:00:44 | 1:00:47
He's got to ask him very hard left now, fast as he can. | 1:00:47 | 1:00:51
-Oh, it's too much. -He hasn't... No, he hasn't got the room to do it. | 1:00:51 | 1:00:57
The sheep are travelling too fast, and unfortunately, a bad miss. | 1:00:57 | 1:01:01
All ten sheep missing the second drive. | 1:01:01 | 1:01:04
He might rescue something, but I think the line was crossed. | 1:01:04 | 1:01:08
I don't think the judges will give him anything, | 1:01:11 | 1:01:13
even if he does get the gates. | 1:01:13 | 1:01:16
We'll have to have a look at that in analysis, Gus. | 1:01:19 | 1:01:22
Yes, yes. | 1:01:22 | 1:01:24
Steady. | 1:01:26 | 1:01:27
And now, on their way back to the shedding ring. | 1:01:28 | 1:01:33
He can go to the ring and start to meet the sheep. | 1:01:34 | 1:01:38
He can't go in it until the first sheep enter the shedding ring. | 1:01:38 | 1:01:42
And there they go, so in he goes to meet them. | 1:01:44 | 1:01:47
They've been an odd bunch. | 1:01:52 | 1:01:54
Let's see how they fare here in the shedding ring. | 1:01:54 | 1:01:57
Just looking for one of the sheep with the red collars. | 1:01:57 | 1:01:59
Come-bye. Come-bye. Lie down. | 1:02:00 | 1:02:04
Come on, Bobby, I hope it goes well for you. | 1:02:04 | 1:02:07
13 out of 30 for the cross drive. | 1:02:09 | 1:02:12
Well, yes, to be expected with that bad miss, unfortunately. | 1:02:12 | 1:02:16
But now he's got to concentrate on this single. | 1:02:16 | 1:02:19
He's got one on the right, one in the centre, | 1:02:19 | 1:02:23
and now he did have one on the left, | 1:02:23 | 1:02:25
but a ewe has plonked herself around, | 1:02:25 | 1:02:28
stopping him getting that single ewe. | 1:02:28 | 1:02:30
It was interesting, Kevin Evans for Wales took the very back ewe. | 1:02:30 | 1:02:35
-Lie down. -He can actually go for a ewe, | 1:02:36 | 1:02:38
-whether she's on the front or the back. -Lie down. | 1:02:38 | 1:02:41
The English team all watching on. | 1:02:42 | 1:02:45
Come-bye. Come-bye. | 1:02:48 | 1:02:50
Come-bye. Come-bye. | 1:02:50 | 1:02:52
Lie down. Lie down. Lie down. | 1:02:52 | 1:02:54
Walk up. | 1:02:54 | 1:02:56
Well, he's plenty of time, he's four minutes to do it, | 1:02:56 | 1:02:58
but it's yet to be done, | 1:02:58 | 1:03:00
so can he prise this one away from the other nine? | 1:03:00 | 1:03:03
-Here's a chance. No. -Lie down. | 1:03:03 | 1:03:06
They're spinning fairly fast. | 1:03:07 | 1:03:09
-Lie down. -They're getting a little bit worked up here. | 1:03:09 | 1:03:12
He's got one right on this left-hand side, | 1:03:12 | 1:03:15
which I think he's going to work towards. | 1:03:15 | 1:03:18
Oh, no, she's just chucked herself back in again. | 1:03:18 | 1:03:21
It's amazing how the collared ewes always end up in the middle. | 1:03:21 | 1:03:24
They seem to sense that you're after them, | 1:03:24 | 1:03:27
and they tuck themselves into the others. | 1:03:27 | 1:03:29
Lie down. Wait. Lie down. | 1:03:29 | 1:03:32
He's got one on the far end now. | 1:03:32 | 1:03:34
Two on the back. | 1:03:34 | 1:03:35
-There she is. -Wait. Lie down. | 1:03:39 | 1:03:41
Can he get her away? It's looking good. | 1:03:41 | 1:03:44
No, no. Not yet. | 1:03:44 | 1:03:46
Lie down. | 1:03:46 | 1:03:48
They're just not settled. | 1:03:48 | 1:03:50
I think the dog could work a little bit further away. | 1:03:50 | 1:03:52
Chief's just that little bit sharp round the shedding ring, | 1:03:52 | 1:03:55
like he was at the start of the fetch. | 1:03:55 | 1:03:58
He's got one at the front now. | 1:03:58 | 1:03:59
She's just having a nibble of grass, and if he can catch her unawares... | 1:03:59 | 1:04:03
Yes, that would be it, really. | 1:04:03 | 1:04:05
Nope, she's just being blocked by the other one, and she'll spin round. | 1:04:09 | 1:04:13
Let herself back in. | 1:04:15 | 1:04:16
Wait. Lie down. | 1:04:16 | 1:04:19
Lie down. Keep out. | 1:04:19 | 1:04:21
-No, they're getting jittery. -Lie down. Lie down. | 1:04:21 | 1:04:24
They just won't settle. | 1:04:24 | 1:04:25
Here we go. We've got one right at the front there now. | 1:04:28 | 1:04:30
Well, I wonder what the Welsh team were thinking then. | 1:04:30 | 1:04:33
They must know that they're in with a chance now. | 1:04:33 | 1:04:36
Lie down! | 1:04:36 | 1:04:37
Now then, the dog's a fair distance away. | 1:04:37 | 1:04:39
Bobby will take his time and do what he can | 1:04:41 | 1:04:44
to just get one of these on to the corner. | 1:04:44 | 1:04:48
The sheep are that little bit more settled. | 1:04:50 | 1:04:52
Lie down. | 1:04:52 | 1:04:54
-The dog's that bit further away. -Just helping with the crook. | 1:04:54 | 1:04:57
Such a wonderful tool. There you are, you can see...this is it. | 1:04:57 | 1:05:00
Ooh. You get all sorts of crooks. | 1:05:00 | 1:05:03
You get neck crooks and leg crooks | 1:05:03 | 1:05:05
so that when you do end up in a situation like this or in a pen, | 1:05:05 | 1:05:08
you can just pop that around the neck and pull it towards you, | 1:05:08 | 1:05:11
or for that matter, their leg, | 1:05:11 | 1:05:13
if it's a smaller little hook at the end. | 1:05:13 | 1:05:16
-Come. Come. -Here we go. | 1:05:16 | 1:05:18
Now they're very close to the edge of the ring, | 1:05:18 | 1:05:21
so he's had to move the dog. | 1:05:21 | 1:05:23
The sheep have got to keep within this sawdust ring. | 1:05:23 | 1:05:26
And only just about one minute, 20 seconds left, so he's in trouble. | 1:05:30 | 1:05:35
Here's a chance coming for the single, | 1:05:35 | 1:05:38
but really, he wants about three to four minutes, really, | 1:05:38 | 1:05:41
to get this done and the sheep into the pen, | 1:05:41 | 1:05:44
so it's not looking good for Ireland. | 1:05:44 | 1:05:47
Interestingly, on the subject of crooks, | 1:05:48 | 1:05:51
during the Olympics, I learnt that hockey gets its name from | 1:05:51 | 1:05:55
-the French word for hook. -Oh! | 1:05:55 | 1:05:57
And it comes from all the shepherds that used to play with their hooks. | 1:05:57 | 1:06:01
-Oh! We live and learn. -There you go. | 1:06:01 | 1:06:04
-There we go. That's good. -And here we are, here we are. | 1:06:09 | 1:06:12
Stand. Stand. Stand. | 1:06:12 | 1:06:14
Away. Away. Away. | 1:06:14 | 1:06:15
Well, he's been accepted, but he's only got about half a minute. | 1:06:15 | 1:06:17
He's only got somewhere near half a minute to get them in. | 1:06:17 | 1:06:23
Lie down! | 1:06:23 | 1:06:24
Well, Bobby needs to really get a lick on here, look. | 1:06:24 | 1:06:26
27...6...5 seconds to go. | 1:06:26 | 1:06:30
Lie down. | 1:06:33 | 1:06:34
So there are the champions. | 1:06:39 | 1:06:42
I'm sure they know it by now. | 1:06:42 | 1:06:44
Well, we're onto the final eight... | 1:06:44 | 1:06:47
-seven seconds. -Lie down. | 1:06:47 | 1:06:48
Five. | 1:06:48 | 1:06:50 | |
Come-bye. | 1:06:50 | 1:06:52
It's not looking good. | 1:06:52 | 1:06:54
-Oh, dear, oh, dear. Time. -Time up! | 1:06:54 | 1:06:58
Time indeed. Oh, I bet it felt like forever for Bobby to be out there, | 1:06:59 | 1:07:04
-especially in that shedding ring. -I bet it did. | 1:07:04 | 1:07:06
I bet it did. And yet he still smiled at the end. | 1:07:06 | 1:07:10
It was amazing. | 1:07:10 | 1:07:11
I just looked at his face as the shout of "time" came. | 1:07:11 | 1:07:15
Yeah, you do wonder. | 1:07:15 | 1:07:16
I mean, as he headed out to the post as he thought, "134, this is doable. | 1:07:16 | 1:07:21
"There's been a couple of 140-odds"? | 1:07:21 | 1:07:23
But it wasn't to be in the end, was it, Gus, for Bobby and Chief? | 1:07:23 | 1:07:26
It certainly wasn't, no. No. What a shame. | 1:07:26 | 1:07:29
And there's confirmation of their scores. | 1:07:29 | 1:07:32
The second outrun, that's where it really started to go, wasn't it? | 1:07:32 | 1:07:36
1 out of 20, and then there, | 1:07:36 | 1:07:38
the second lift, | 1:07:38 | 1:07:39
and slowly, slowly, | 1:07:39 | 1:07:41
things just started to drip away. | 1:07:41 | 1:07:42
But a score of 86 out of 150. | 1:07:42 | 1:07:45
Bobby, it all went a bit wrong right from the start, didn't it? | 1:07:50 | 1:07:53
-The first outrun went well. -Yes. | 1:07:53 | 1:07:54
And then the second outrun is where things really started to go wrong. | 1:07:54 | 1:07:58
-That's right. -How do you feel? | 1:07:58 | 1:08:00
Oh, all right. Just a wee bit unlucky. | 1:08:00 | 1:08:03
Don't suppose that's the best round you've ever done, is it? | 1:08:03 | 1:08:06
Oh, no, it's not the best, no. | 1:08:06 | 1:08:07
Because I think that's where you lost a lot of points, | 1:08:07 | 1:08:09
on the second outrun, because the dog didn't seem | 1:08:09 | 1:08:12
to listen to what you were telling him to do. | 1:08:12 | 1:08:13
-That's right. -He wanted to keep his eye on that first set of sheep. | 1:08:13 | 1:08:16
-Yes, that's right. -And you had the same problem as Alf, | 1:08:16 | 1:08:19
where that first set of sheep started drifting. | 1:08:19 | 1:08:21
Is there anything you or the dog could have done | 1:08:21 | 1:08:23
to stop that happening, or is it just one of those things? | 1:08:23 | 1:08:25
Not really. The sheep just drifted, | 1:08:25 | 1:08:27
and they didn't stay where they should have stayed. | 1:08:27 | 1:08:29
There's nothing you can do about it. | 1:08:29 | 1:08:31
-Because for that second outrun, you only got 1 out of 20. -Yes. | 1:08:31 | 1:08:35
And then the other problem that you had was on the second fetch. | 1:08:35 | 1:08:38
-That lost a lot of points too, didn't it? -Yes, yes. | 1:08:38 | 1:08:41
The sheep was that wee bit... maybe wily, sure. | 1:08:41 | 1:08:46
-Next time you'll do better, eh? -I hope so! | 1:08:46 | 1:08:48
And then, of course, you ran out of time. | 1:08:48 | 1:08:50
-Any idea what your score might have been? -No idea. | 1:08:50 | 1:08:53
It was 86 out of 150. | 1:08:53 | 1:08:55
Yes. Not so good. | 1:08:55 | 1:08:57
Disappointing round for you, | 1:08:57 | 1:08:58
-but you've still got a smile on your face. -Oh, aye. | 1:08:58 | 1:09:01
-That's what we like to see. Thanks for competing. -Great. | 1:09:01 | 1:09:04
I don't know how much the rest of the team are smiling, though, | 1:09:04 | 1:09:06
to be honest, because they were leading overnight, | 1:09:06 | 1:09:09
and it wasn't to be at the end, | 1:09:09 | 1:09:11
but, I mean, it was a great start, actually, wasn't it, Gus? | 1:09:11 | 1:09:14
-Yes. -The very beginning was good, | 1:09:14 | 1:09:16
but then it all boiled down to the second outrun, | 1:09:16 | 1:09:18
and there was a little bit of confusion there. | 1:09:18 | 1:09:20
Just the dog not really understanding that Bobby was asking him | 1:09:20 | 1:09:23
to look back or look at the top of the field. | 1:09:23 | 1:09:26
Yes, yes, he was wanting to go off to the right, | 1:09:26 | 1:09:28
so he had to pull him to the left, | 1:09:28 | 1:09:30
and then eventually he did go to the left, | 1:09:30 | 1:09:32
but he'd unfortunately crossed the course, | 1:09:32 | 1:09:34
so he lost a lot of points. | 1:09:34 | 1:09:36
And then, yeah, just too little too late, really, wasn't it, | 1:09:38 | 1:09:41
on the second drive gates? | 1:09:41 | 1:09:42
Yes, they went past, and really, he did bring the dog around, | 1:09:42 | 1:09:46
but unfortunately it was like having a second attempt, | 1:09:46 | 1:09:50
which they're not allowed to do. | 1:09:50 | 1:09:52
He brought them back to the second drive gate, | 1:09:52 | 1:09:56
and that wasn't good enough. They'd already passed. | 1:09:56 | 1:10:00
So he wouldn't have got any points for that particular set of gates. | 1:10:00 | 1:10:05
Yeah. And as we said then, | 1:10:05 | 1:10:07
the sheep just seemed a little bit shaken, didn't they? | 1:10:07 | 1:10:10
They got into this single, but he did well, didn't he? | 1:10:10 | 1:10:13
-This was kind of the second opportunity of the single. -Yes. | 1:10:13 | 1:10:16
He took it well, but he'd lost an awful lot of time. | 1:10:16 | 1:10:20
A real... | 1:10:20 | 1:10:21
He just had not got enough time then to finish. | 1:10:21 | 1:10:24
And then running out of time. | 1:10:26 | 1:10:28
It's awful when you head over to the pen | 1:10:28 | 1:10:30
and you know that you've got very, very little time indeed, | 1:10:30 | 1:10:33
but it was a very, very good effort, and he was applauded, | 1:10:33 | 1:10:36
of course, by the rest of his team, | 1:10:36 | 1:10:38
but it just wasn't enough to keep Ireland ahead of the rest of the UK. | 1:10:38 | 1:10:43
So, let's have a little look at the confirmation of the singles round. | 1:10:43 | 1:10:47
So, you can see that Ian with Mo, 146. | 1:10:47 | 1:10:52
They take the title for the singles | 1:10:52 | 1:10:54
with Kevin from Wales in second, | 1:10:54 | 1:10:56
Alf from England, and Bobby there, | 1:10:56 | 1:10:58
just rounding things off with 86. | 1:10:58 | 1:11:01
And so, in reverse order, | 1:11:02 | 1:11:05
we have Ireland with 264 points, | 1:11:05 | 1:11:09
then it's England with 281, | 1:11:09 | 1:11:13
and then in second it's Scotland with 302, | 1:11:13 | 1:11:16
but there is confirmation | 1:11:16 | 1:11:17
that Wales are this year's One Man And His Dog champions. | 1:11:17 | 1:11:21
Again, they retain the title this year. | 1:11:21 | 1:11:24
What a fantastic competition. | 1:11:27 | 1:11:29
It just goes to show that some rounds can go so brilliantly | 1:11:29 | 1:11:32
and then other rounds, everything seems to go wrong. | 1:11:32 | 1:11:35
It leaves us with one thing to do, | 1:11:35 | 1:11:36
which is to give out the trophy to the winning team, | 1:11:36 | 1:11:39
but before we do that, we give a very special, smaller trophy | 1:11:39 | 1:11:43
to the outstanding handler, and Gus, you're going to tell us | 1:11:43 | 1:11:46
who that is this year. | 1:11:46 | 1:11:47
Yes. A fellow that got off to a brilliant start, | 1:11:47 | 1:11:49
he did superb, and then - shock, horror - | 1:11:49 | 1:11:52
the sheep got off the course and jumped back into the pen, | 1:11:52 | 1:11:55
and it was John Griffiths from Wales for the Brace run yesterday. | 1:11:55 | 1:11:58
Fantastic. John, come forward. | 1:11:58 | 1:12:01
-That's a nice surprise! -Well done. | 1:12:01 | 1:12:02
APPLAUSE | 1:12:02 | 1:12:04
That's the second hug I've given you in the competition, is it? | 1:12:04 | 1:12:06
-There's your trophy. -Thank you very much. | 1:12:06 | 1:12:08
It really did go so well for you at the beginning. How do you feel? | 1:12:08 | 1:12:12
-Very, very chuffed. I'm so glad. -Well, congratulations. | 1:12:12 | 1:12:16
Well done, John. I'm absolutely over the moon for you, I really am. | 1:12:16 | 1:12:19
But now it's time for another trophy-giving, | 1:12:19 | 1:12:22
because it's time to give you back the trophy. | 1:12:22 | 1:12:25
Here you are, lads. This is for you. Congratulations, well done. | 1:12:25 | 1:12:28
The champions once again of One Man And His Dog 2012. | 1:12:28 | 1:12:32
APPLAUSE What about that? | 1:12:32 | 1:12:35
Super, super trialling all round. | 1:12:35 | 1:12:37
Thanks ever so much to our judges, and of course, to Gus. | 1:12:37 | 1:12:40
What a time we've had. | 1:12:40 | 1:12:41
Well, congratulations to Wales, | 1:12:41 | 1:12:44
and well done to all our competitors, | 1:12:44 | 1:12:46
and of course, their dogs. | 1:12:46 | 1:12:48
Yes. So, until next year, we'll see you again. | 1:12:48 | 1:12:50
-We'll see you here, actually, in Wales. -We'll be back! | 1:12:50 | 1:12:53
But there we are. Anyway, we have had a super, super time. | 1:12:53 | 1:12:56
-Thanks to you. -Thank you to you. | 1:12:56 | 1:12:57
Thanks to Gus. Thanks to the judges. Thanks to everybody here. | 1:12:57 | 1:13:00
And, of course, a very big thank you to the dogs. | 1:13:00 | 1:13:02
-Bye-bye. -Bye-bye. | 1:13:02 | 1:13:04
