I go round the country and talk to people

0:00:020:00:05

and so many people say life's an incredible struggle at the moment

0:00:050:00:08

and even if it's not a struggle now,

0:00:080:00:11

they feel uncertain about the future.

0:00:110:00:13

They feel, "What kind of future am I going to have?"

0:00:130:00:15

"What kind of future is my family going to have?"

0:00:150:00:17

People have lost that sense of confidence that there is going to

0:00:170:00:20

be a future that is better than the past,

0:00:200:00:22

that their kids are going to do better than them.

0:00:220:00:25

I think that now there is a sense of we've been through the pain,

0:00:250:00:29

we've made the sacrifices.

0:00:290:00:30

Where is the vision for the country? Where is this country going?

0:00:300:00:33

It's time we had a plan

0:00:330:00:35

and that's what my plan for Britain's future is about.

0:00:350:00:38

The starting point for me

0:00:430:00:44

is that working people should share in the growing wealth of the country,

0:00:440:00:49

and that's why we're setting a clear objective to reduce poverty for

0:00:490:00:52

those in work so, over five years, we'll get to a minimum wage over £8.

0:00:520:00:57

That will benefit families.

0:00:570:01:00

It will send a message that hard work is going to be rewarded

0:01:000:01:02

again in our country, so that's a starting point for what we can do.

0:01:020:01:06

We can only succeed as a country

0:01:110:01:13

if we use the talents of all our young people

0:01:130:01:15

and for far too long, governments of both parties have spent a lot

0:01:150:01:19

of time worrying about those going to university, and that's fine,

0:01:190:01:22

but if I was a 14-year-old today

0:01:220:01:24

and I wasn't going down the academic route,

0:01:240:01:27

I think I would have no idea what qualifications

0:01:270:01:29

I was supposed to be doing,

0:01:290:01:30

what future I should be looking forward to.

0:01:300:01:33

And what it means is that my government will be saying,

0:01:330:01:35

at every opportunity, we'll be making sure apprenticeships actually happen.

0:01:350:01:40

If you want a major government contract,

0:01:420:01:44

you must provide apprenticeships.

0:01:440:01:46

If you bring in workers from outside the European Union,

0:01:460:01:48

you must provide apprenticeships to the next generation.

0:01:480:01:51

Now that is a big and dramatic change for our country

0:01:510:01:54

and it's going to require everyone to step up.

0:01:540:01:57

People often think about the environment as being

0:02:020:02:05

about safeguarding the planet for future generations.

0:02:050:02:07

I really care about that but it's not just about that.

0:02:070:02:10

It's about what jobs are our sons and daughters going to be doing?

0:02:100:02:14

We've got to create the jobs of the future in this country

0:02:160:02:18

and we're setting a very clear ten-year goal to create

0:02:180:02:21

a million new jobs in the environmental

0:02:210:02:23

technologies of the future and make Britain a world leader.

0:02:230:02:27

I think we can actually say there is a plan for the future.

0:02:350:02:38

We are a country that's going somewhere, that knows where it's going,

0:02:380:02:41

and not the country which increasingly works

0:02:410:02:43

just for the richest in our society.

0:02:430:02:45

A different way is possible.

0:02:450:02:47

It is possible to build a country that does work for all

0:02:470:02:50

and not just for some.

0:02:500:02:51

The Tories have this idea that,

0:02:510:02:53

as long the richest few people are doing OK,

0:02:530:02:56

everyone else will somehow magically benefit from it

0:02:560:02:58

and that's not the way I think a country succeeds.

0:02:580:03:01

My view of success for a country is everybody playing their part

0:03:010:03:04

from top to bottom in society and it is about, in the end, who counts.

0:03:040:03:08

Is it just a few that count

0:03:080:03:10

or is it everyday working people that really count?

0:03:100:03:14

Is that the way you judge the success of Britain?

0:03:140:03:16

This election is going to come down to that question.

0:03:160:03:19

Do you want a Prime Minister, David Cameron,

0:03:190:03:21

who's got a different idea about how a country succeeds?

0:03:210:03:23

Or do you want a Prime Minister who's thinking about you and your family?

0:03:230:03:27

And THAT is the election choice.
