royal Highland Show 2013. Most of us have been here for the full four

days. Sampling some of the wonderful atmosphere and amazing food of this

Show. Over the next 25 minutes we will bring you some you some of top

life Stock Market exhibitors. And without further ado, let's get

for grabs this week, but none are more press dingous than this, the

Queens Cup. -- press dingous. It rotates between beef cattle, sheep

and goats. This year it will be awarded to the dairy sector.

winners is the Holstein from Brian Yates. So the Queens Cup being

presented to the Holstein winner individual supreme animal of the

year to Brian Yates. Well now with two happy people. The judge, first,

why this animal? She has that over all balance that bit more bloom in

the udder than the one in second place. She has that advantage for me

on the day. But two very good cows at the top. It was close between the

Jersey and Ayrshire. They were both similar cows. It is strange how

thing things change. The Jersey just sagged a bit and didn't quite keep

herself, didn't look as well in line as she did on the move that. Made

the difference. You a happy man Absolutely delighted. It is a dream

come true to win the Queens Cup is one thing that doesn't happen very

often. You're bottling it in.Yes it means so much. In a cold-blood

commercial sense does it mean a lot? Yes, because we do the job for the

joy of the animal. Do you -- did you expect her to win? No, because the

competition was so strong in the section. So delighted to win when

the competition was so strong is extra special. There you have it out

Well done you too! Here at the show there are horses of all shapes and

sizes, from the tiniest Shetland ponies to these big Clydesdales.

show is Jamie Williamson from Alvie estate in the Highlands. One of his

job is to use the sthoe promote the region and one -- show to promote

the region and they will use local chefs to create street food. It is a

tremendous opportunity to promote food from the Highlands, not only

the produce but the chefs and this is a great opportunity with so many

people here to show just what the hall, the chefs are about in the

countryside area and just look at countryside area and just look at

today? Yes it has been really busy. There are so many more people than

yesterday. I think because everyone knows where we are. I don't want to

slow things down. Are you waiting to order? Well it is a simple idea,

in a portable stall and the crowds will come flocking. Sheep shearing

is one of the most intense competitions here, the guys work

very fast and I'm catching up with Colin McGregor, from the British

wool marketing board. Tell me how competitive is this sport? It is

immensely competitive. It is a sport. These guys are practicing for

weeks in advance of the competition herement every day it is perhaps

their work. But it is also their sport, their hobby, they want to

come here and do good. The current world champion is a Scotsman. Yes it

is the second Scots mavrn ever to win the world -- Scotsman ever to

win. I have been trying to pick up some hints, but they work so fast.

Can you give me some basic hints. won't be a problem. We will maybe

get you to put a few blows in on the last side. Here is a young farmers

champion, Stuart, he will give us a demonstration. This is a Scottish

black-faced sheep. They're a little bit lively. Stuart is coming down

the belly. It is always the belly we remove first. What are the judges

looking for? It is important to keep this stable as fast as possible

zmrchlt what is the fastest -- as possible. What is the fastest?The

fastest is 16 seconds. That is insane. Will I have a goo with this

one. You can do a little on the side. You can fit in there and

another one in there. And put the head between your legs. Just hold is

there. I will start it. Lay it on the skin and just keep it on the

skin and go forward gently. You do the next one yourself. That is good.

On you go. Out of the leg, right giving this poor animal a hair cut

and leave it to the pecks erpts. It's -- experts. It is incredibly

hard work. I can't believe they can do a sheep in under 40 seconds.

show is a paradise for horse lovers. Behind me riders are getting ready

for the Andrew Black Cup, where competitors get the chance to double

their money. This is a speed class, a one round class. It is the second

highest prize fund. The winner is jumping for �1,300. The first three

come in again and jump the same round and it is a double your money

time. Which ever one wince out of the second round, they -- wins out

of second round, they double their money. So they will double the

�1,300. So there is a lot at stake. You can go in and jump two rounds

and come back with �2,600. Not bad for half an hour's work. The winner

of first round is Jemma Kirke. The top three will now jump again to try

and double their money. What class of rider are you attracting? We have

the top Scottish riders. This is the biggest show in Scotland in terms of

height of jumps and money. We have all the top riders and a lot of top

English riders and some of them come up year on year here. So we are

grateful that they make the effort to come north. It seems to have

drawn a pig crowd. How popular -- big crowd, how popular is it?

people watch showjumping that wouldn't watch it any other time.

Jemma is fastest again and takes home �2,600, the top prize. Jemma,

wow! How much did you enjoy that? was great, I have not had the

greatest of shows so far. So I'm glad to win and the horse jumped

super. I think you knocked the socks off the blokes? Well it paid off.

Was ate tough course? The ground was slippy, so it was, you had to be

cautious on the turns. But it was a good class. You go home a bit

richer? Yes, we cub doubled our money, he has earned his keep for a

couple of days. Well done you two. the Highland Show and this tent is

home to the poultry section. Feeling plucky? There is 120 poultry classes

and about 25 classes for the produce, the eggs. Do you have a

favourite? Well the more attractive one is is like the white-crested

Polish. This year the Scottish soebgs of Scottish Association of

Young Farmers is celebrating it fifth anniversary. - fifth

anniversary. The most keenly anticipated competition is the

here, it is very serious. Today we are competing for the national

finals of the tug-of-war. We came through the regional finals. We're

here for the male and female national final. How many teams are

competing? 10 male and 10 female teams. Howl much competition is

training that goes into it. We have trained Paul Winter for it. This is

the pinnacle of it. -- all winter. The rules are pretty strict. Each

team has pulling members. The boat must be no more than 12.5

centimetres in circumference. The soles of your shoes must be flat.

The women's teams have battled through the heats. These are the

two teams in the final, at Ayr against Kinross. They have started

as they take the first one. Look at the concentration! Real technique

in the West had against East final. Will they hold it? -- in the West

against East final. You can see the pain on the faces. Is that enough?

They have fallen with centimetres to go. It is! I think that says it

When it comes to beef cattle, the most prestigious competition is the

Beef interbreed. The winning beef cattle from all the breed societies

go head to head to find the supreme show champion. So, we thought we

would see if we can second guess The judge. These cattle are some of

the best in the country and includes some iconic breeds. The

delight for Highlander is one. know deep down who will win. I get

there you are coming from. I have squeezed all the knowledge from the

farmers and I will go for the Angus Whatever the breed, the judge has a

very difficult task. What is he looking for? It is very difficult.

Buchan up compared the breeds. You have to be looking for an

exceptional animal within the breeds. -- you cannot compare the

breeds. Each country has different characteristics. You are looking at

something that stands out. You have a big huge Aberdeen Angus. It

defies the mind you can come to a decision on that. It is like Miss

World. It is the same thing. That is what you really think is the

outstanding animal in the breed. Any chance you could give me a nod

or a wink when you are in there? The odds should be less than 12-1.

I am choosing the Angus bull. going for the Highlanders. Thank

a fantastic winner. You are a happy man and so am I. These are some of

my favourite animals - donkeys. They're great. There really

intelligent. The donkeys a more intelligent than the horses. They

are not the stubborn as people think they are. The more you do

with them the more you get out of them. The crowds love to see them

because you do not get to see them other than on the beach. On the

last series, we took a journey into woodland to living. He has been

looking into a new edition to the countryside area to find out how we

can bring nature into our own backyards. The countryside there is

my favourite part of the show. There are many traditional crafts

going on all weekend. I'm here to see a brand new hotel being built

This is not your average hotel. It has been specially built to house

some of my favourite creatures - bugs. Let's find out some more.

What do we have here? I am making up a bug hotel. This is one I made

earlier. What are they made out of? Old pieces of plywood I had in the

garage. That is fantastic. You have a lot going on. Lots of tubes, Moss,

a leaf litter and pine cones. Are the special habitats for birds?

Most birds will sit in any of them. A leaf cutter would go in here.

Moss for the woodlice. Centipedes in the bark. Ladybirds are

fantastic for the garden. It makes a great home. I can see it being

used as a restaurant for predators - like a snack bar. That is the

general idea. It is a bug hotel for all sorts. It is a very organic and

textual sort of thing. I guess you could replace the bamboo with

straws, for example. Anything like that which has a tube. It is snug

as a bug in a rug. Yes, indeed.But hotels are a great idea. The best

thing is, they're easy to make - educational and fun for all the

family. As Dougie mentioned earlier, this is the 75th anniversary of the

Scottish Association of Young Farmers Clubs. Chief executive

Penny Montgomery is organising the full year of activities and

fundraising. The young farmers are famed for staging outlandish events

at the Highland Show. The ship is a special year and there is more of a

focus on fund-raising. -- this year. We had 300 members participating in

a flash mob, which went to demonstrate different activities

Young Farmers' participate in. Over the next year, we want �100,000 for

the trust fund. We have the triathlon taking place with the RBS.

We aim to achieve 1000 miles. We are also plunging various

agricultural celebrities. Each celebrity has had a �1,000 on his

head. What else to have planned for the year? The flash mob has been

excellent. We are putting on a concert in Glasgow. This is quite a

big deal to remember. We should have between 304 hundred past

members taking part on the stage. - - 300and 400members. I am really

looking forward to that concert in November. The young farmers do not

do things by half. This is the premier event in the Scottish

countryside Callender but an important event for the show

manager. I have had a great three days. We have had good crowds.

Everyone has made me feel very welcome. Last year we had some

extreme weather at the show which caused some major problems. Has

that been addressed this year? have had really good weather. The

set-up was dry. The problem last year was mainly with the car parks.

The guys on site have been working hard with ground stabilisation work,

reinforcing all the roads in the park. We have some contingency car

parking in the locality. Today the weather was perfect. Last year,

perhaps, because of the extreme weather, the numbers were down.

Have they recovered? We have had three really good days. We are

optimistic we will beat last year's total quite comfortably. As a show

manager, what are the major challenges? We always need to keep

moving. We try to attract the top livestock in the country to exhibit.

We do good business to business, particularly in the agricultural

world. We need a good trading environment and the bike level of

customers for them. We need to attract people who are not so

familiar with the countryside and live in the town. You have always

got to keep moving and find new and innovative things for the customer.

It seems like a good start so far by you. Thank you very much. Once

the showing is done for the day, this is where many a young farmer

can be found - the infamous beer tent. It can get really busy. We

could do 7000 to aid 1000 pints on a hot weekend. It depends on the

NPower. How wild to the Young Farmers get? -- it depends on the

weather. They are a good crowd.On that note, it brings us to the end

of our time. Highlights? Mine was tasting some of the amazing street

food from the Highlands and Islands. For me, it was meeting Sarah.
