How popular have triathlons become here in Northern Ireland

in the last 10 years?

They've become hugely popular, not only in Northern Ireland

but throughout the entire country.

I started triathlon about nine years ago

after my brother Connor had been involved in them for several years.

And at that stage, there were about 500 members in Triathlon Ireland.

This year, they have surpassed 5,500,

so that growth is phenomenal.

I think why the sport is catching on so much

is it gives people an opportunity, really, to challenge themselves

and to test themselves against the course.

For 95% of people in the field,

it's not about winning, it's about completing.

So the challenge is to get round the course

and you can do that at your own pace.

Some do it the other way round, but I find it uncomfortable.
