in full stride. This evening, we have got the best of both worlds. A

:00:53.:01:04.

long haul in the pool. The shortest race in the track. Endurance,

:01:05.:01:15.

speed, staying power, explosive power. Eight minutes in the water,

:01:16.:01:26.

ten seconds on dry land. But the goals remain the same. Gold.

:01:27.:01:39.

Tonight, it is a marathon... And a sprint.

:01:40.:01:49.

And it promises to be quite a night as another glorious day in Glasgow

:01:50.:01:57.

reaches a stunning climax. I am delighted to say the good weather

:01:58.:02:00.

has returned just in time for the first evening session in the

:02:01.:02:04.

athletics, but we will be starting in the pool.

:02:05.:02:11.

Jazz Carlin from Wales is favourite for the lung busting women's 800m

:02:12.:02:21.

freestyle. England's Adam Peaty is going for

:02:22.:02:24.

his second gold in the somewhat shorter 50m breaststroke.

:02:25.:02:33.

On the track, three-time Olympic gold medallist Veronica

:02:34.:02:35.

Campbell-Brown will be giving it both barrels in the 100m.

:02:36.:02:41.

Going for England in the men's sprint is Adam Gemili, the fastest

:02:42.:02:46.

qualifier. But the quickest in the field as

:02:47.:02:49.

Trinidad and Tobago's Richard Thompson.

:02:50.:03:00.

We will be skipping between athletics and swimming predominantly

:03:01.:03:03.

this evening, but if you want to watch uninterrupted coverage of

:03:04.:03:06.

either track and field or swimming, they are available on the red

:03:07.:03:10.

button. The choice is yours. As always, every sport picking places

:03:11.:03:14.

available online and there is BBC Three if you want to watch

:03:15.:03:18.

gymnastics and rock singer. Let's head to Hampden now for all world

:03:19.:03:22.

with Michael Johnson. Good evening. The 100m final is coming up. Men

:03:23.:03:28.

first, and Adam Gemili qualified quickest this morning in the heats,

:03:29.:03:31.

but you were not overly impressed yesterday. Yeah, I think he will

:03:32.:03:37.

turn it up. I was not impressed with his race. He did not look as clean

:03:38.:03:41.

from a technical standpoint as he has in the past, but I was

:03:42.:03:46.

encouraged by his comments after the 100m. He said he knows he has to

:03:47.:03:50.

turn it up in the semifinals tonight. And I think he will. A lot

:03:51.:03:54.

of the guys were a bit sluggish yesterday. It was the first day out.

:03:55.:04:01.

The weather was not great. I expect that the semifinals and the final

:04:02.:04:05.

will see some improved time. Is it hard to strike a balance between

:04:06.:04:09.

making sure you qualify and conserving enough energy for the

:04:10.:04:15.

final if you make it? If talking about the 400m, I would say it is

:04:16.:04:18.

very difficult to strike that balance. These 100m runners, most of

:04:19.:04:26.

them run the 200m. Adam Gemili is a very good 200m runner. There is no

:04:27.:04:31.

conserving for the 100m. At the Commonwealth Games, we had one round

:04:32.:04:36.

yesterday and two rounds today, which these guys are accustomed to.

:04:37.:04:40.

At Olympic level, there are four rounds, so I don't think that is a

:04:41.:04:47.

factor. A lot of these guys needed to blow out the cobwebs. Sometimes,

:04:48.:04:52.

you find that when you start to prepare, you have not raced for a

:04:53.:04:55.

couple of weeks. So it does take a bit of an adjustment to complete

:04:56.:05:04.

100%. Once they have blown those cobwebs away, who will come out with

:05:05.:05:10.

the gold medal? I am really excited about this final, because it is very

:05:11.:05:15.

evenly matched. We talk about the people who are missing, but what I

:05:16.:05:17.

like about the people here is people who are missing, but what I

:05:18.:05:20.

like that there is no clear favourite. Richard Thompson from

:05:21.:05:23.

Trinidad and Tobago has the fastest time of all of the guys in the race,

:05:24.:05:29.

with 9.82 this year. But he did not look good yesterday, so we will see.

:05:30.:05:38.

All of the Jamaicans are running well, so those guys should figure

:05:39.:05:46.

into it. Harry Aikines-Aryeetey will have a difficult time, but Adam

:05:47.:05:49.

Gemili could really figure in the medals. And for the women? Same

:05:50.:05:57.

thing. It is very competitive. Veronica Campbell-Brown will have

:05:58.:06:04.

her hands full with her Jamaican compatriot. She will also have a

:06:05.:06:09.

difficult time with Blessing Okagbare, who is running really well

:06:10.:06:17.

and right now. Unfortunately, Michelle R out, who had the fastest

:06:18.:06:26.

time. We will see. Let's head to the Tollcross swimming centre across

:06:27.:06:29.

town for a look ahead to another exciting night by the pool with

:06:30.:06:34.

Clare Balding. Mark Foster and Becky Adlington are

:06:35.:06:37.

alongside me, and in the audience, we have the Duke and Duchess of

:06:38.:06:41.

Cambridge and Prince Harry. You are excited about that! Let's talk about

:06:42.:06:47.

Jazz Carlin. She would be the fastest qualifier and favourite for

:06:48.:06:49.

the second of our finals in your event, the 800m free. Such an

:06:50.:06:55.

exciting race. Jazz had a couple of tough years, so she will want to get

:06:56.:07:00.

that gold medal. It would be the first gold for a Welsh woman for

:07:01.:07:08.

about 40 years. Your second quiz question is, who was it? It was 40

:07:09.:07:20.

years ago. Hannah Miley has two finals tonight. Hannah is not

:07:21.:07:25.

traditionally the best 800 freestyler, but she's definitely

:07:26.:07:32.

suited to the distance. I would not rule her out. There is also Camilla

:07:33.:07:38.

Hattersley of Scotland. You just saw the line-up for the men's 200m

:07:39.:07:44.

backstroke. We have two Scots and a Welsh swimmer in this. We could be

:07:45.:07:48.

seeing an Aussie want to prefer the medals. Let's join our commentators.

:07:49.:07:53.

The pool is absolutely hopping. I could only just hear you, Clare!

:07:54.:08:05.

This is going to be fascinating. A relatively partisan Scottish crowd

:08:06.:08:09.

have been wonderful so far. But they have an enormously loud. Mohammed of

:08:10.:08:15.

Wales is in his first major individual final. Craig McNally swam

:08:16.:08:28.

a strong heat. Last year, he was the fastest ranked in the Commonwealth.

:08:29.:08:34.

He was selected for 30 minutes rule -- for the team in April. He will be

:08:35.:08:44.

next to his compatriot, Ryan Bennett. It is going to be

:08:45.:09:06.

fascinating. Josh Beaver was the fourth fastest qualifier. Cory Main

:09:07.:09:21.

maybe the spoiler for the medals. Matson Lawson, number nine in the

:09:22.:09:30.

world this year. And the new Commonwealth world record-holder,

:09:31.:09:38.

Mitch Larkin. Can he turn his silver medal in the hundred into gold with

:09:39.:09:43.

the 200. He has been looking good so far, but we don't know. It is down

:09:44.:10:01.

to McNally to break the Aussie grip. If it is a really good head to

:10:02.:10:07.

head, we have seen Craig McNally go very well indeed. He took on Ryan

:10:08.:10:14.

Lochte in the World Championships and beat him in the semifinal. This

:10:15.:10:18.

is the final of the Commonwealth Games 200m backstroke. All three

:10:19.:10:25.

Games 200m backstroke. All Australians relatively slow to

:10:26.:10:36.

start, interesting. You can't go further than 15 underwater. Adrian,

:10:37.:10:39.

I was going to ask you about tactics. Look at Larkin. He is very

:10:40.:10:42.

good on the 50, we know that. McNally will be lucky to get podium,

:10:43.:11:10.

but still could. He is leaving himself a lot to do, Craig McNally.

:11:11.:11:12.

but still could. He is leaving He was the fastest Commonwealth

:11:13.:11:19.

swimmer. Looks like it may be likened to turn first. No, it is

:11:20.:11:29.

Main first, Beever third. I think McNally will have a go, but I am

:11:30.:11:33.

sure he has left it too late. Absolutely. It is now Australia and

:11:34.:11:40.

New Zealand. Australia could Absolutely. It is now Australia and

:11:41.:11:51.

split bike remain, the 19-year-old out of the university of Florida --

:11:52.:11:55.

A fantastic turn from Larkin. Looks like he will get the gold medal he

:11:56.:12:14.

has been looking for. It is going to be an Australia one-two-three-four

:12:15.:12:16.

only the second time in the able-bodied swimming.

:12:17.:12:23.

The Commonwealth champion, Mitch Larkin of Australia. The silver to

:12:24.:12:29.

Josh Beever, the bronze to Matson Lawson. Goodness me, a bit slower

:12:30.:12:39.

than I thought, but what a great swim from the Aussies. They also got

:12:40.:12:48.

a one-two-three in the men's best 900 three. I am pleased with Mitch

:12:49.:12:58.

Larkin. A real talent for Australia. Craig McNally, not sure

:12:59.:13:02.

what was going on with him. Quite a long way outside his best time. His

:13:03.:13:10.

Scottish record would have won that race. There was clear water for

:13:11.:13:26.

Larkin in the end. Main allowed the door to open.

:13:27.:13:34.

Well, one-two-three, and they were a long way ahead.

:13:35.:14:01.

Beautiful shots, those super slow-mos. Do you look at those to

:14:02.:14:13.

help you with technique? Yeah, these guys behind us filming the race will

:14:14.:14:17.

do all the analysis and break everything down for you. They have

:14:18.:14:20.

all this technology where they will just look at a certain part,

:14:21.:14:24.

whatever you want to work on. It is a massive help. Sports science has

:14:25.:14:32.

become such an important part of the training, plus the nutrition. When

:14:33.:14:37.

you look at every invent and break it down into its simplicity, you can

:14:38.:14:39.

make improvements. What are you thinking of this? It is

:14:40.:14:54.

going to be head to head between Jazz and Lauren Boyle. I have raced

:14:55.:15:03.

Lauren Boyle man she is tough. This would be a first major title for

:15:04.:15:09.

Jazz Carlin if she can do it. The 800 is her chosen event. Here is

:15:10.:15:21.

Andy again. Laura Crockart of Australia goes in lane eight, her

:15:22.:15:25.

international debut. This is such a wonderful place to have the

:15:26.:15:29.

youngsters to get them into international swimming. Hannah

:15:30.:15:35.

Miley, a little bit of fun. She's already done her stuff and won a

:15:36.:15:40.

medley gold on race one, day one, took on the hopes of a nation and

:15:41.:15:45.

was utterly brilliant. Two Scots coming into this final. Camilla

:15:46.:15:51.

Hattersley of Scotland, another 19-year-old, third in the Scottish

:15:52.:15:54.

Championships and sixth fastest coming into this Commonwealth final.

:15:55.:16:00.

And a second Aussie, Jessica Ashwood. She's got a pretty fast BB.

:16:01.:16:10.

She is sub eight minutes and 20 seconds. I think there are five or

:16:11.:16:19.

six who think they can do that. Only 1.5 seconds shy of Jazz Carlin's

:16:20.:16:28.

best time. I think Alanna Bowles is strong. Hannah Miley qualified for

:16:29.:16:35.

the 200 final but Alanna Bowles didn't. Here is Lauren Boyle. She

:16:36.:16:46.

and Jazz Carlin ended 2013 tied third for the world rankings, equal

:16:47.:16:58.

to one 100th of a second. Come on, Giles! She needs to keep her head.

:16:59.:17:03.

She had a really good season last year but didn't quite produce at the

:17:04.:17:07.

world Championships. She needs to stay calm, stay focused, make sure

:17:08.:17:11.

she does exactly what she needs to do in terms of the prep and enacting

:17:12.:17:18.

the race plan that she clearly has in her head. She just took off the

:17:19.:17:25.

silver foil lining to keep her warm. We heard about Fran Halsall's hot

:17:26.:17:31.

pants so swimmers are keeping warm. It is a warm environment but they

:17:32.:17:34.

are making sure that things are ready. You can't say with Hannah

:17:35.:17:44.

Miley that you don't expect her to get on the podium, but...

:17:45.:18:03.

16 lengths of this pool in the 800m freestyle. The champion from Delhi

:18:04.:18:15.

has not returned, Becky Adlington, but very fast indeed in the centre.

:18:16.:18:31.

Hannah Miley up at the top there. This is an interesting tactic. A

:18:32.:18:38.

crowd pleaser, I think. She's taking the race out and trying to prove us

:18:39.:18:42.

all wrong and get on the podium. I think the pace is one she will

:18:43.:18:45.

struggle to hold onto but I would love to be proved wrong! Jazz Carlin

:18:46.:18:50.

and Laura Boyle in the centre, four and five. Nearest the camera,

:18:51.:18:54.

holding the pace. Jazz Carlin needs to keep an eye on

:18:55.:19:12.

Lauren Boyle. It is a steady pace set at the moment. She's spent quite

:19:13.:19:22.

a lot of time in Europe prior to coming here. She left New Zealand

:19:23.:19:27.

three months ago and has been training with a former Scottish

:19:28.:19:33.

coach in Paris. She went to Altitude in Spain. Hannah Miley is still

:19:34.:19:35.

leading. Is jazz making a bit of a move? It

:19:36.:19:47.

looks like it. That's very early indeed. She may be just trying to

:19:48.:19:54.

get the first 100m out of the way and then set into a greater rhythm.

:19:55.:19:58.

Jazz is in the white hat at the top of those three readers in the

:19:59.:20:00.

centre. -- three leaders. This is a

:20:01.:20:18.

this race. 200m down and Becky Adlington is up in the presentation

:20:19.:20:21.

position. What are they thinking at this state of the race? They just

:20:22.:20:26.

want to settle into their pace and give its move. I think Jazz is going

:20:27.:20:31.

to use the back 400 because that's what we've seen with Katie Ladera

:20:32.:20:38.

key. She has back ended a lot and she is the world record-holder.

:20:39.:20:43.

It looks like they're dropping off Hannah. It's interesting she's kept

:20:44.:20:51.

up with this pace. I think Jazz is starting to turn it up again. She

:20:52.:20:58.

has got a good second part of the race. Alana Boyd was a very good

:20:59.:21:13.

1500m freestyle swimmer as well. -- Alaina Boyle. On 15 turns, it all

:21:14.:21:22.

1500m freestyle swimmer as well. -- adds up. It adds up to maybe five

:21:23.:21:26.

1500m freestyle swimmer as well. -- six seconds if she's

:21:27.:21:30.

1500m freestyle swimmer as well. -- quarters of a second on the

:21:31.:21:32.

1500m freestyle swimmer as well. -- Jazz Carlin seems

:21:33.:21:33.

1500m freestyle swimmer as well. -- swing bits in the middle. It's great

:21:34.:21:50.

to see Jazz Carlin in a position to maybe get a podium finish. She

:21:51.:21:55.

missed 2012 and was very disappointed to miss London with

:21:56.:22:01.

glandular fever. Coming up to the halfway mark. Jazz Carlin and Lauren

:22:02.:22:04.

Boyle. Jazz Carlin of halfway mark. Jazz Carlin and Lauren

:22:05.:22:15.

slightly better turn from the Black Hat of Lauren Boyle of New Zealand.

:22:16.:22:23.

Lauren Boyle first, Hat of Lauren Boyle of New Zealand.

:22:24.:22:26.

second. It is still wide open for the medals. Coming back quite fast

:22:27.:22:31.

is 16-year-old Alanna Bowles of Australia. It looks like it is the

:22:32.:22:38.

head-to-head that we were expecting. Brittany Maclean not quite dropped

:22:39.:22:40.

that I think these two will face each other right to the end.

:22:41.:22:55.

It's been a long time since Wales got a gold medal in the women's

:22:56.:23:04.

events. 1974. There is a lot of expectation writing here on Jazz

:23:05.:23:10.

Carlin. Again, very tight going into the 500m turn. A slightly better

:23:11.:23:21.

turn from Brittany Maclean. Becky, how do you feel about this now?

:23:22.:23:27.

We've got Brittany Maclean and Jazz Carlin and Lauren Boyle, the three

:23:28.:23:32.

of them - down to the last 50 metres? I'm not sure we can hear

:23:33.:23:40.

Becky at the moment but Jazz Carlin is going well, certainly. This will

:23:41.:23:45.

be interesting if it gets to a head-to-head and possibly the best

:23:46.:23:49.

of those - certainly the fastest sprint - is Jazz Carlin because her

:23:50.:23:55.

200 metres freestyle is very good. She was in the middle on the 200m

:23:56.:24:02.

freestyle. Lauren is just a couple of places above Jazz so both of

:24:03.:24:07.

these swimmers are really quick. Brittany Maclean is in the mix.

:24:08.:24:14.

They're all capable of a really good last 100m. I would like to see

:24:15.:24:20.

Brittany Maclean a little bit further. Sorry, I would like to see

:24:21.:24:26.

Jazz Carlin a little bit closer. That is the 600m turn and this is

:24:27.:24:30.

very close indeed. I wonder when someone is going to make a move. It

:24:31.:24:34.

looks like Brittany Maclean is starting to try to get back on terms

:24:35.:24:40.

for Canada. She hasn't made an impact yet in terms of the position

:24:41.:24:45.

and it will be Jazz Carlin over just first, Lauren Boyle over just second

:24:46.:24:48.

and Brittany Maclean third. Brittany Maclean is now pushing the

:24:49.:25:00.

volume on and I think she's making a move here. Jazz Carlin also wants to

:25:01.:25:07.

put herself into a good position for the last 100 metres.

:25:08.:25:11.

Look in lane number four, Jazz Carlin, swimming from Swansea. She's

:25:12.:25:24.

just taken 0.45 seconds out of the field but turns are not that great

:25:25.:25:28.

and she's gone for it already. She's gone relatively early. Is it too

:25:29.:25:35.

early? She's swimming away. This is very exciting.

:25:36.:25:40.

She's moving over to the left of the lane, trying to get away from Lauren

:25:41.:25:47.

Boyle and got a whole body length ahead and I don't think she would

:25:48.:25:50.

have made this move if she didn't think she could cover it. Using her

:25:51.:25:55.

legs, off the wall, the crowd are going nuts. I think it is going to

:25:56.:26:00.

be a Welsh gold. She is sprinting away down this last 50. She has

:26:01.:26:06.

clearly left quite a lot. She can go faster next time but who cares about

:26:07.:26:11.

next time? This is about the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in

:26:12.:26:15.

2014 and Wales are going to win gold! Jazz Carlin from Swansea takes

:26:16.:26:20.

Wales to gold! She punches the air as she takes gold for Wales. The

:26:21.:26:24.

silver has gone to Lauren Boyle of New Zealand and the bronze to

:26:25.:26:28.

Brittany Maclean from Canada but Wales finally claim a gold medal in

:26:29.:26:32.

the swimming pool and what a brilliant swim it was! Absolutely

:26:33.:26:36.

brilliant. She's broken her personal best. She was not onto that until

:26:37.:26:45.

halfway. The Welsh record is 8.18.36. This is a world record.

:26:46.:26:53.

From the pace she set at 400, to turn around and finish the way she

:26:54.:26:58.

has... Becky Adlington knows a thing or two! She knows what she's talking

:26:59.:27:04.

about. Jazz Carlin must have known she had the strength. She's been

:27:05.:27:10.

training in Australia with but McAllister for a couple of months.

:27:11.:27:14.

She was with him for seven years and decided to go and spend some time

:27:15.:27:19.

with him when he moved back to Australia and she's put the work in.

:27:20.:27:22.

She's in great shape and deserve that gold medal. A really good race.

:27:23.:27:27.

She knew Lauren Boyle was the main threat but was happy to sit there

:27:28.:27:33.

and then open up. Her last 100 was two seconds faster than Lauren

:27:34.:27:38.

Boyle. Two seconds! Lauren Boyle was broken at that point and she was

:27:39.:27:43.

just holding on for that silver medal. We were talking about who is

:27:44.:27:48.

the better sprinter and, in actual fact, Lauren Boyle was the better of

:27:49.:27:53.

the three of them on the 200m freestyle. But look - not even in

:27:54.:27:59.

the picture! Wonder. Full Wales win gold in the swimming pool. The

:28:00.:28:06.

longest women's event, the 800m freestyle. Well done. It's great in

:28:07.:28:14.

terms of tradition to have Becky and then jazz to carry that on. She's 23

:28:15.:28:22.

years old. So Jazz Carlin wins the women's 800m freestyle with a new

:28:23.:28:27.

Commonwealth Games record. The Silver goes to New Zealand's Lauren

:28:28.:28:29.

Boyle and Canada get the bronze. I'm so pleased, Jazz. That has been

:28:30.:28:39.

a long time coming. I knew it was going to be a tough race. There were

:28:40.:28:44.

world champion ship medallists, it really was a strong field. -- World

:28:45.:28:50.

Championship. I wanted it to go well on the day so I'm so happy. It's a

:28:51.:28:54.

bit slower than I wanted to go at it is all about the race tonight. Your

:28:55.:29:01.

last 100 was two seconds faster than Lauren so we were holding our breath

:29:02.:29:07.

on that final turn. Well, at last year's world Championships, I got

:29:08.:29:10.

picked up the last 15 so this year I really made an effort of making sure

:29:11.:29:14.

that that last 100 was quicker and anyone else in the pool so I've been

:29:15.:29:18.

working on it and it paid off tonight. Do you know that you are

:29:19.:29:22.

the first Welsh lady to win a gold medal in 40 years in the swimming

:29:23.:29:28.

pool? I can't believe it! Seeing the Welsh flag, I'm getting emotional.

:29:29.:29:32.

Your mum and dad follow you everywhere, don't they? Yet, they're

:29:33.:29:38.

amazing. My family have travelled. My little cousins have got "go,

:29:39.:29:43.

Jazz" on their tops and it's nicer than to be to celebrate with me.

:29:44.:29:50.

Very well done. Thank you. That is Wales's third gold medal at

:29:51.:29:54.

the Commonwealth Games but, as Sharron said, the first win in a

:29:55.:29:58.

pool for a woman for such a long time. That is such a great

:29:59.:30:03.

achievement. Yes, especially after two years of disappointment and she

:30:04.:30:06.

really deserved it. She's putting so much hard work and it's nice to see

:30:07.:30:10.

the stop its a shame she didn't have more of a race on hands in a way.

:30:11.:30:14.

You're saying it's a shame she didn't have more of a race? What I

:30:15.:30:23.

mean is, the American girl, Katie Ledecki, is swimming in 8.11. She is

:30:24.:30:27.

a long way ahead of the rest of the field. We got that with Hannah who

:30:28.:30:38.

did a five second PB there. A brilliant result here for fans of

:30:39.:30:42.

Wales but also for swimming in general and we'll see Jazz Carlin

:30:43.:30:50.

get her gold medal a little later. Wonderful effort. Athletics next,

:30:51.:30:53.

but prior to that, some news from today.

:30:54.:31:00.

England's Nick Matthew beat archrival James Willstrop in a fine

:31:01.:31:04.

game thriller to take the men's singles gold.

:31:05.:31:13.

-- a five-game thriller. But world champion Laura Massaro fell short

:31:14.:31:17.

against Malaysia's Nicol David and had to settle for silver.

:31:18.:31:25.

In the lawn bowls men's doubles final, Paul Foster and Alex Marshall

:31:26.:31:29.

secured Scotland's 12th gold of the games is, a record for the Scots.

:31:30.:31:38.

And England's Dan Greaves, also known as Discus Dan, topped the

:31:39.:31:42.

podium in the Para-sport mixed class after beating Welsh favourite Aled

:31:43.:31:49.

Davies. Those are some of the stories from

:31:50.:31:53.

day five. If you have been inspired by these games to get involved in

:31:54.:31:59.

sport, you can get more details by doing to the Get Inspired website.

:32:00.:32:02.

It has all the information about participation in your area.

:32:03.:32:10.

Before we go to the track, a reminder that on the red button

:32:11.:32:13.

tonight, there is uninterrupted coverage of the swimming and

:32:14.:32:16.

athletics sessions, so you will not miss a thing. On BBC One, we are off

:32:17.:32:24.

to Hampden Park and Gabby Logan. Good evening. We already have a

:32:25.:32:28.

fabulous evening of athletics under way here. Football might struggle to

:32:29.:32:33.

get back in here. It makes a perfect cauldron for athletics. The track is

:32:34.:32:37.

so close to the people watching, and they are cheering on fabulous

:32:38.:32:42.

performances. Tonight is all about the fastest men and women in the

:32:43.:32:45.

Commonwealth. It is 100m finals night. Whoever wins this title will

:32:46.:32:53.

have to be at the top of their form.

:32:54.:33:07.

Blessing Okagbare made it look very comfortable. That was a very good

:33:08.:33:14.

performance. comfortable. That was a very good

:33:15.:33:20.

number-1 Commonwealth athletes. He has been in super four.

:33:21.:33:25.

number-1 Commonwealth athletes. He have to be right on his game.

:33:26.:33:34.

Impressive run from Adam Gemili. And there is that smile again. He loves

:33:35.:33:37.

his running, and the crowd there is that smile again. He loves

:33:38.:33:40.

his running, and the loves him. As you have seen this evening, there

:33:41.:33:44.

are so many fabulous finals going on around this Commonwealth Games that

:33:45.:33:47.

we are dipping in and out of different sports. Already, we have

:33:48.:33:51.

seen the women's 100m semi final. We will catch up with those later.

:33:52.:33:56.

Michael Johnson and Denise Lewis are waiting for the men's final. The

:33:57.:34:00.

damp grey skies of yesterday seem 1 million miles away. It is warmer,

:34:01.:34:05.

about 70 degrees, and those guys are ready to unleash some big

:34:06.:34:09.

performances -- 17 degrees. I heard you talking with Gary earlier about

:34:10.:34:15.

how you manage a semi and then a final potentially two hours later.

:34:16.:34:21.

Absolutely. The British or English guys will have to run the final.

:34:22.:34:27.

Denise, it is all about making sure you are in the final, whatever it

:34:28.:34:33.

takes? Yes, it is a tough qualification. The guys and women

:34:34.:34:36.

have to step it up tonight. Let's get down track-side. Harry

:34:37.:34:41.

Aikines-Aryeetey is in the first of these three he. -- these heats. We

:34:42.:34:48.

join our commentator Steve Cram. Thank you, Gabby. There was a huge

:34:49.:35:00.

cheer in the stadium. We may be in Scotland, but Harry Aikines-Aryeetey

:35:01.:35:04.

received a huge roar from this crowd in Hampden Park as he was

:35:05.:35:07.

introduced. Adam Gemili and Richard Kilty are still to come for England.

:35:08.:35:13.

But this is going to be tough. Only the top two and two fastest losers

:35:14.:35:16.

make it through to the final. In this heat, we have ash made, one of

:35:17.:35:24.

the best men in the world over 100m -- Ashmeade.

:35:25.:35:50.

A few of these men have run quick times and could be a danger to Harry

:35:51.:35:56.

Aikines-Aryeetey. But he got ten points since zero -- 10.0 earlier.

:35:57.:36:02.

Something like that might be good enough. We have some very good

:36:03.:36:09.

sprinters here, but if he can rise to the occasion, who knows?

:36:10.:36:16.

Harry Aikines-Aryeetey get a decent start. Bledman gets a good start. In

:36:17.:36:19.

the start. Bledman gets a good start. In

:36:20.:36:24.

Aikines-Aryeetey. It is going to be tight. Ashmeade just gets it from

:36:25.:36:27.

Fraser of the Bahamas, who led that for most of the way. That was a odd

:36:28.:36:32.

semifinal. I was expecting fireworks. Nickel Ashmeade, Colin

:36:33.:36:39.

Jackson, was he carrying something in the heats yesterday? He said it

:36:40.:36:42.

was a bit old and was not that impressive. Yes, there is a final

:36:43.:36:47.

coming later, but we normally expect them to come on in the semifinal and

:36:48.:36:51.

produce a bit more. And young Warren Fraser, that is his best away from

:36:52.:36:59.

the Bahamas. I am scratching my head, as you are. We expect

:37:00.:37:03.

something a bit faster than that. At least around the 10.05 mark. It is

:37:04.:37:09.

the semifinal of the Commonwealth Games. The best sprinters in the

:37:10.:37:13.

world are here today. But anyway, this is the reality of it, I guess.

:37:14.:37:22.

Semifinal number one. If you look at Ashmeade in the middle, he is a 200m

:37:23.:37:27.

specialist. You would expect him to come through quicker than this. I

:37:28.:37:30.

wonder if he is just cruising and thinking to himself, it is still a

:37:31.:37:35.

bit chilly, I will save myself for the final. But I don't think you can

:37:36.:37:39.

take that kind of risk in this race. He does not look like he is cruising

:37:40.:37:46.

to me. You look at someone like him to dominate, but relax. I am not

:37:47.:37:57.

sure about that at all. He has a joint time with Fraser. Harry

:37:58.:38:01.

Aikines-Aryeetey is in fourth place at the moment, technically still in

:38:02.:38:03.

with a chance. Harry, technically you still have a

:38:04.:38:10.

chance because you are in the top four and the two fastest qualifiers

:38:11.:38:15.

go to the final. Your assessment? Start was not as bad as yesterday. I

:38:16.:38:23.

have such a bad start yesterday. I was a bit lacking in my first 20,

:38:24.:38:26.

but my top speed is up there with the best. I wish I could have done a

:38:27.:38:30.

better job for everyone at home. I know God is on my side this year.

:38:31.:38:36.

This might be it. Hopefully, there will be a strong headwind for

:38:37.:38:39.

everyone. I have to thank everyone at home. This is not the end yet.

:38:40.:38:45.

But this opportunity is amazing. I'm taking it with both hands. Now it is

:38:46.:38:51.

a waiting game. Where will you go? I don't know, I was hoping to wait

:38:52.:38:54.

with you! Thanks to the guys at home. Love you lots.

:38:55.:39:00.

Well, it would be a surprise if he got into the final with that time,

:39:01.:39:14.

but he is still in with a chance. Well, Harry was very jolly in that

:39:15.:39:19.

interview. You pointed out yesterday that you were confused by him anyway

:39:20.:39:22.

after his average run to get into these semifinals.

:39:23.:39:27.

Yeah, he does not seem to have that fire and that we'll desire. I wonder

:39:28.:39:33.

if he really believes he can be there. He seemed to be a bit OK with

:39:34.:39:39.

the performance, yesterday as well as today. An unusual race. They were

:39:40.:39:45.

scratching their heads in the commentary box. Yeah, I expected

:39:46.:39:51.

more from Ashmeade. I think he did not expect Fraser from the Bahamas

:39:52.:39:54.

to really get out there. I think he did relax 20 metres from the finish

:39:55.:40:10.

line. Fraser got a great start. I think that Ashmeade, just behind

:40:11.:40:13.

him, figures, I have got him, I am not going to press too hard. I think

:40:14.:40:19.

there is more from him, but not a great start to his day. At this

:40:20.:40:26.

stage, I am looking for the relaxation you want to see from the

:40:27.:40:31.

athletes. Harry admitted that he did start to than yesterday. But if he

:40:32.:40:36.

should get through, has he got the next gear you need to find? That

:40:37.:40:43.

will probably not be our quickest of the three semifinals. You would

:40:44.:40:46.

think that perhaps in the next one, Adam Gemili, quickest in qualifying,

:40:47.:40:51.

would run a faster semifinal if he needs to. He looked good in the

:40:52.:40:59.

heats yesterday. His time was really good, 10.15. Adam has a great racing

:41:00.:41:05.

brain. He will have look at the Lane draw and said, I have a chance here.

:41:06.:41:11.

He has his work cut out for him, but he can handle it. I think he is

:41:12.:41:16.

going to run this race like a final. As Denise said, he has the brain for

:41:17.:41:21.

it. He understands what he needs to do. He has the guy to beat next to

:41:22.:41:29.

him. That is where you want to be, next to the competition. He loves

:41:30.:41:44.

these occasions. He was thrown into the lion's Dan at London 2012 as an

:41:45.:41:48.

18-year-old, and he loves these big championship environments. Andrew

:41:49.:41:53.

Cotter will see if he can make it through this one.

:41:54.:41:58.

Yes, in the middle of the psychological dance and swagger of

:41:59.:42:07.

the runners at the start. Gittens looks to be enjoying himself. That

:42:08.:42:23.

first heat was a bit sluggish. With Jason Livermore and Gemili alongside

:42:24.:42:54.

each other. Two go through automatically

:42:55.:42:54.

each other. Two go through before ten o'clock this evening.

:42:55.:43:03.

Blessing Okagbare has just run 10.93 on this track. We expect quicker

:43:04.:43:05.

from the main men. Livermore is out quickly. Mark Jelks

:43:06.:43:25.

is running well. But here comes Gemili! 10.07, with a slight helping

:43:26.:43:37.

wind. Wonderful run from Adam Gemili. Had to work hard, but came

:43:38.:43:43.

through impressively. Very exciting for this crowd. They have seen the

:43:44.:43:47.

Englishman come through and take that semifinal. Adam is one of the

:43:48.:43:52.

athletes who absorbs energy that semifinal. Adam is one of the

:43:53.:43:57.

crowd, enjoys performing. And he has certainly done that again. He had

:43:58.:44:01.

pressure all around. He will certainly done that again. He had

:44:02.:44:06.

little more from Jamaica. At this stage, he would have seen that

:44:07.:44:11.

Jelks, from Nigeria, seems like he is streaking ahead. But Adam works

:44:12.:44:18.

hard, relies on the 200m strength he has got, and takes the victory.

:44:19.:44:26.

There is a whole raft of American converts to Nigeria now. Livermore

:44:27.:44:40.

was straining for second place. Adam is like a metronome. He gets into a

:44:41.:44:44.

rhythm and he is able to keep his frequency doing all the time. He

:44:45.:44:50.

hits the floor very powerfully. He drives with his arms, his eyes are

:44:51.:44:54.

focused in front. He is not concerning himself with left or

:44:55.:44:57.

right, all the way to the finish line. That was a great performance,

:44:58.:45:03.

just shy of his best. The big question mark will be, can he find

:45:04.:45:07.

another 10th of a second? I think that is what will be needed. Sadly,

:45:08.:45:13.

Harry Aikines-Aryeetey will be out because of that result.

:45:14.:45:19.

Adam, congratulations on a tremendous performance. Through to

:45:20.:45:25.

the final. What do you now do before then? Just recover. My body is fit

:45:26.:45:29.

enough to run around, so just recover. I made it hard for myself

:45:30.:45:34.

and did not start well, but I was able to come through. Commonwealth

:45:35.:45:40.

Games final. What more can I ask for? So much faster than the first

:45:41.:45:46.

race. It bodes well. Yeah, I tried to relax as much as I can. I like to

:45:47.:45:52.

enjoy the crowd. As soon as I get in the blocks, that is my focus. Now I

:45:53.:45:56.

will just get back and recover. Enjoy the final.

:45:57.:46:03.

Well, it was a lot quicker than the first heat. A very good run. A

:46:04.:46:21.

better race, a stronger race and, from Adam Gemili, a stronger

:46:22.:46:26.

performance? You were a bit concerned.

:46:27.:46:29.

He looked a bit better. Still looked a bit tight to me at the finish but

:46:30.:46:36.

when you've got this kind of running to do early on, you've got to really

:46:37.:46:43.

go for it. He hoped it would be run like a final and that's how he ran

:46:44.:46:47.

it. I was a bit concerned with his transition. He's in line five here.

:46:48.:46:55.

What is it you were concerned about? His start is very good but you

:46:56.:46:58.

notice he loses a bit of ground on the field. That's because the

:46:59.:47:02.

transition is extremely important. It isn't enough just to get a great

:47:03.:47:06.

start out of the blocks that are good you have to be able to maintain

:47:07.:47:11.

that by transitioning the start of your maximum velocity into your full

:47:12.:47:16.

speed. I have nothing to add in terms of his technique but what you

:47:17.:47:20.

want to see is the competitiveness. That's what it's going to take. If

:47:21.:47:25.

he genuinely can lift a medal at these championships... And still not

:47:26.:47:30.

convinced by a Schmied and the big guys who have come in with the big

:47:31.:47:36.

times and whether they've got what it takes to come through. What bodes

:47:37.:47:57.

well is that Livermore looked horrible. I think Adam Gemili has

:47:58.:48:04.

his number at this point but I'm still a bit concerned with Ashmed.

:48:05.:48:12.

We also need to know what Richard Thompson has got which she didn't

:48:13.:48:18.

show yesterday. We will see in this next and final semifinal whether

:48:19.:48:23.

Thompson of Trinidad and Tobago and Richard Kilty can produce a

:48:24.:48:32.

performance. He is the world indoor 60m champion but can he convert that

:48:33.:48:36.

into a run which will take him into the final. Let's find out.

:48:37.:48:41.

STEVE CRAM: As the evening sunshine casts long shadows across the

:48:42.:48:50.

stadium, in some respects the shadow of the world indoor title has been

:48:51.:48:55.

cast over the season and Richard Kilty because he hasn't produced

:48:56.:48:59.

that kind of form. We started the season really well but hasn't come

:49:00.:49:03.

on from that and he's got a real task to get through to the final to

:49:04.:49:12.

join Adam Gemili. I guess the question here is, Richard Thompson,

:49:13.:49:18.

who has been having a great season - 9.82 but in his Championships it

:49:19.:49:24.

with a new Trinidad and Tobago records - or one of the others?

:49:25.:49:33.

We have two or three others who could figure in this.

:49:34.:50:04.

A new fine for South Africa. -- find.

:50:05.:50:24.

Thompson is not guaranteed a spot now. Let's wait to see the times

:50:25.:50:31.

cover-up. Richard Thompson, the fastest man in the Commonwealth come

:50:32.:50:38.

into these championships, the gold beaten by Bailey-call but was he

:50:39.:50:44.

beaten by Adams as well? -- by Kemar Bailey-Cole. That time is not going

:50:45.:50:52.

to be quick enough and Thompson is out. We looked to him yesterday and

:50:53.:50:57.

we wondered whether he could produce a performance that would get him

:50:58.:51:02.

through to this final and he surprised everybody by not making it

:51:03.:51:06.

but look at Kemar Bailey-Cole from Jamaica. He's the man I would say

:51:07.:51:11.

need to watch. A beautiful, fluid runner. I don't think when the

:51:12.:51:14.

pressure is on that technique he shows there will crack. A winning

:51:15.:51:20.

time of ten seconds dead and I believe he does have something left

:51:21.:51:24.

in the tank. Michael mentioned earlier the transitions. You've got

:51:25.:51:28.

to react from the blocks and have a good transition. He's a bit sluggish

:51:29.:51:31.

because he's tall but the clear factor is that he gets to the line

:51:32.:51:35.

first and that is going to be crucial. There is confirmation of

:51:36.:51:43.

that. Into a slight headwind, as well. Who was the most Impreza?

:51:44.:51:52.

Probably Kemar Bailey-Cole. The big news is Richard Thompson not good at

:51:53.:51:56.

all. He won't go through to the final. Antoine Adams goes through, a

:51:57.:52:05.

bit of a surprise. Here are the finalists:

:52:06.:52:19.

A good chance of a medal for England or are we getting ahead of

:52:20.:52:23.

ourselves? If one person can tell us we are,

:52:24.:52:31.

I'm sat next to him! Go on. Be nice, Michael! I think Adam knows exactly

:52:32.:52:37.

what he's doing and exactly where he is. He had a great race in his

:52:38.:52:43.

semifinal that will have given him a loss of confidence. He's already

:52:44.:52:50.

beaten one of the Jamaicans and his coach will look and see the

:52:51.:52:53.

transitions issue and he can clear that up as he goes into the final,

:52:54.:52:58.

like you did yesterday, cleaning up a bit of the technique. Can I just

:52:59.:53:02.

introduced Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson who is here with us, listening

:53:03.:53:06.

interested league into your take on whether Adam Gemili can get in on

:53:07.:53:10.

the medals? -- listening with interest. It's interesting that

:53:11.:53:17.

Kemar Bailey-Cole was in the B race at the Diamond League if few ways

:53:18.:53:20.

ago and has now shown us that he is this good and should have been in

:53:21.:53:28.

the a race. He bridges the quickest time of the semifinals and it was

:53:29.:53:34.

not enough for Thompson to keep up with. He was there to go and grab a

:53:35.:53:38.

place in the final. Thompson has looked out of sorts from the get go.

:53:39.:53:43.

From yesterday, he just didn't look like the man that has run sub ten a

:53:44.:53:49.

couple of times this year. But for me, Kemar Bailey-Cole is a really

:53:50.:53:54.

tall guy and he looks great. He moves well. The final could be so

:53:55.:54:04.

exciting. If Adam Gemili could get in a month that, I have no doubt he

:54:05.:54:08.

will execute it well. I'm disappointed for Richard

:54:09.:54:14.

will execute it well. I'm just hasn't been able to raise his

:54:15.:54:16.

game. I know he's got some emotional things going on - he's lost a friend

- but he hasn't looked like himself. Is it a burden to bring the

:54:25.:54:26.

- but he hasn't looked like himself. title from the indoors outdoors?

:54:27.:54:30.

Does it add an extra pressure? You could look at it the other way and

:54:31.:54:36.

say that it could add confidence. I think the thing I've seen with

:54:37.:54:39.

Richard Kilty is that he is a great starter, a power runner, but that

:54:40.:54:43.

doesn't necessarily mean you can translate that to outdoors for

:54:44.:54:50.

100m. I'm not sure what they're working on in terms of his training

:54:51.:54:53.

but if he has that ability to transfer rate, he may. There are

:54:54.:55:00.

some guys who have just always been indoor sprinters. Adam Gemili

:55:01.:55:05.

qualifying second quickest there at 10.07. He is desperate to break the

:55:06.:55:09.

magic ten seconds and maybe tonight to win the gold, he will have to get

:55:10.:55:13.

under ten seconds. Wouldn't that be great if at nine we get a result

:55:14.:55:18.

that produces a sub ten second victory. Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson,

:55:19.:55:23.

we have a great programme because we are seeing the integration of

:55:24.:55:30.

Para-sport and a tremendous para athlete is coming up tonight. I'm

:55:31.:55:35.

going to heat loads of pressure on her because it is her race to lose.

:55:36.:55:39.

Not only on paper but the way she ran in the semis was absolutely

:55:40.:55:43.

fantastic so we're looking for good things from her tonight. She is

:55:44.:55:48.

getting herself sorted there. But we will, at the moment, have a look at

:55:49.:55:53.

the field because it is the women's hammer final. We'll build up more to

:55:54.:55:57.

that race in a moment. Steve Backley is taking a look at the field for

:55:58.:56:02.

us. Thanks, Gary. The women's final

:56:03.:56:06.

first round for Sophie hit John of England. She is looking to impose

:56:07.:56:09.

herself. -- Sophie Hitchen. That will be measured. An anxious

:56:10.:56:22.

look from Sophie. So important to get a big throw out,

:56:23.:56:36.

put the pressure on the opposition. There are three athletes throwing

:56:37.:56:39.

beyond 70 metres and she is one of them but not on this throw. It is

:56:40.:56:47.

towards 70 metres. It's decent. 67.59m. It will take the lead but I

:56:48.:56:51.

suspect it may need more to stay on the rostrum. Now Sultana Frizell

:56:52.:57:01.

Hell of Canada. -- Frizzell of Canada.

:57:02.:57:10.

Good technique. Beyond her games record that she did yesterday, at 70

:57:11.:57:20.

metres plus, she is a 75 metre throw at her very best. She took the title

:57:21.:57:26.

in Delhi four years ago. She is looking to defend and get three

:57:27.:57:32.

metres ahead of Sophie. She is looking for a bit of advice from her

:57:33.:57:41.

courage. 70.55m takes the lead. GABBY LOGAN: Sultana is the current

:57:42.:57:47.

leader. Sorry, I'll have to raise in my game.

:57:48.:57:54.

Libby Clegg has already had a moment in the opening ceremony. She's well

:57:55.:58:02.

known in Scotland and has won sports personality of the year in Scotland,

:58:03.:58:06.

presented to her by her hero David Weir. She's a real trailblazer and

:58:07.:58:11.

role model. Her brother is a Paralympian as well so there is a

:58:12.:58:15.

lot of pressure in the family. In London, her parents were rushing

:58:16.:58:18.

between the track and the pool to get to see both of their children

:58:19.:58:22.

compete and there has been huge pressure on her for the last two

:58:23.:58:28.

years since London. In Glasgow and London there are posters of her

:58:29.:58:32.

everywhere. In the opening ceremony, she would have rather just hid

:58:33.:58:38.

herself away but that's almost impossible to turn that down. She's

:58:39.:58:41.

dealing with it very well at the moment. I think the relationship of

:58:42.:58:45.

all the athletes with their guide runners is so interesting, isn't it?

:58:46.:58:50.

They seem to have a fabulous bond and understanding with each other.

:58:51.:58:53.

It's really hard because you have to get on with each other so well

:58:54.:58:57.

because you are literally joined. At every training session, it's

:58:58.:59:02.

actually pretty tough to find somebody who can run the pace she's

:59:03.:59:07.

running and is willing to almost hold back on their athletics career

:59:08.:59:12.

to be there. He has been her guide runner for a couple of years now,

:59:13.:59:23.

and his half brother is here as a guide as well. It is obviously

:59:24.:59:27.

therefore stop it is amazing. Tracey Hinton has come back to sprinting.

:59:28.:59:40.

Yes, she's had to go up to 4x800m. Slightly surprised that she got her

:59:41.:59:44.

season's best, I didn't have her in that kind of. What have you made of

:59:45.:59:48.

the integration of the Para-sport is? There are six events in total,

:59:49.:59:53.

with the athletics. I think it's fantastic. I think that athletics is

:59:54.:59:58.

a sport that is helped by that. You hear a lot about stars and I think

:59:59.:00:06.

this sport is helped by the inclusion. It's been fantastic.

:00:07.:00:11.

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE Listen to that reception. They

:00:12.:00:14.

absolutely love her and they are sharing it with their waving the

:00:15.:00:17.

assault tyres and the applause which they hope they will replicate. --

:00:18.:00:24.

their waving of the Scottish flags. Let's head to commentary and Steve

:00:25.:00:27.

Cram. Paralympic sport, representing

:00:28.:00:41.

Wales. We have two different categories here T11 and T12, they

:00:42.:00:48.

often run together. Tracey is totally blind, Libby Clegg is

:00:49.:00:53.

legally blind with a small percentage of vision, but Libby

:00:54.:01:04.

Clegg carrying the hopes of Scotland against Ishitile and Muchavo. She

:01:05.:01:10.

has room to spare. She was very good in the heats today. Perfectly

:01:11.:01:16.

matched with her guide, the two of them, the stride length important,

:01:17.:01:19.

the relationship between them important. 12. 23 she ran. She's the

:01:20.:01:23.

fourth quickest Scottish 100 metre important. 12. 23 she ran. She's the

:01:24.:01:25.

fourth quickest Scottish 100 of all athletes.

:01:26.:01:37.

Libby Clegg going for Scotland here. She's out of blocks into her running

:01:38.:01:45.

very nicely. Mikel going with her, stretching away from the field.

:01:46.:01:48.

She's looking for a personal best here. Libby Clegg gets the Gold

:01:49.:01:57.

Medal. Scotland celebrates. Libby Clegg celebrates with her guide

:01:58.:02:00.

runner. The two of them have worked so hard together. That's just a tad

:02:01.:02:10.

slower than two years ago. She surely must be lapping this up.

:02:11.:02:18.

Congratulations to Muchavo, who took the silver and Ishitile who took the

:02:19.:02:25.

bronze. It's been a long journey for Libby Clegg. She's moved to

:02:26.:02:29.

Loughborough. She's talked about changes she's had to make. She's got

:02:30.:02:33.

a new guide dog now, Hattie. I'm sure Hattie will join in the

:02:34.:02:39.

celebrations somewhere as well. For Mikel and Libby, what a moment. What

:02:40.:02:51.

a moment Arnhem den park -- what a moment around Hampden Park. What a

:02:52.:02:56.

fantastic race for Libby and a season's best. I don't think winning

:02:57.:03:00.

the gold was ever in contention, but she could have made lots of mistakes

:03:01.:03:04.

to throw it away. She kept very calm. It's lovely to see her

:03:05.:03:08.

smiling. When she crossed the line, she almost looked like she couldn't

:03:09.:03:11.

believe it and wasn't ready to celebrate. It's lovely to see them

:03:12.:03:16.

both there with the Scottish flag waving at the crowds and soaking up

:03:17.:03:19.

the applause. A very well deserved Gold Medal for Libby Clegg. Scotland

:03:20.:03:27.

are not going to have too many medal opportunities here in track and

:03:28.:03:31.

field. A few of them to come, the likes of Eilidh Child, Lindsay sharp

:03:32.:03:36.

and one or two others, but for Libby Clegg, she's first in all respects.

:03:37.:03:42.

First in this race, first Gold Medal for Scotland. She's still improving,

:03:43.:03:49.

for me. You talked about working with Mikel, they've been together

:03:50.:03:53.

for a couple of years, there's still more to come, I think, Tanni?

:03:54.:03:57.

There's more for them to come together. For Libby, she started off

:03:58.:04:03.

as a T13 athlete, which meant she had some vision. Her eye condition

:04:04.:04:07.

got worse then she had to run with a guide. In the early part of the

:04:08.:04:11.

race, she looked like she was struggling, like she wasn't relaxed.

:04:12.:04:15.

Once she got to about 60 metres, you could see she was running

:04:16.:04:18.

comfortably. There's a lot more to come. She wants to run mainstream

:04:19.:04:21.

and being fourth fastest in Scotland, that gives her lots of

:04:22.:04:26.

opportunity to open her eyes to a different level of competition.

:04:27.:04:35.

Lovely shots and the two of them, they're so synchronised, when

:04:36.:04:37.

they're sprinting together. That's part of it. It is a relationship.

:04:38.:04:43.

They have said, I've heard Mikel talk about, yeah, we have our

:04:44.:04:48.

arguments, occasional falling out, but the goal is a joint goal. They

:04:49.:04:52.

work so hard together, as do all of the athletes. It's great to see them

:04:53.:04:57.

all going on their lap of honour. What a moment for Libby Clegg. It

:04:58.:05:04.

will be a medal as well for the guides. So a special moment

:05:05.:05:09.

will be a medal as well for the Mikel Huggins. They will milk this

:05:10.:05:14.

for a little bit longer, I'm sure. STUDIO: It takes a special athlete

:05:15.:05:19.

to dedicate yourself to be a guide runner. You are skewing your own

:05:20.:05:23.

chances of having your own individual career. You hear about so

:05:24.:05:28.

many people enjoy the experience. They get so much

:05:29.:05:29.

many people enjoy the experience. it seems to be

:05:30.:05:34.

many people enjoy the experience. give and take of it. The rewards are

:05:35.:05:37.

so great, when you have nights like this. Libby is so modest. She's so

:05:38.:05:46.

humble, it's almost like Mikel has to keep reminding her how fantastic

:05:47.:05:51.

of an athlete she is. He's with her for every single training session,

:05:52.:05:54.

of an athlete she is. He's with her come rain, come shine. He dead

:05:55.:05:55.

indicates his life come rain, come shine. He dead

:05:56.:06:00.

that she is as best as she can be. It's just beautiful. It's great

:06:01.:06:09.

scenes here. If you don't, as the guide runner, bring your athlete

:06:10.:06:13.

through and you fail and you get your athlete disqualified, that's a

:06:14.:06:18.

tremendous amount of pressure and having to gauge what type of speed

:06:19.:06:24.

you're at to make sure that you're with your athlete, it's a very

:06:25.:06:27.

interesting relationship. I'm sure there's a lot of pressure on those

:06:28.:06:33.

guide runners. There aren't many relationships in sport where you

:06:34.:06:38.

work so closely and then compete together. I can only think of

:06:39.:06:43.

Torvill and Dean, who train together like that. You are relying on that

:06:44.:06:51.

person being your metronome. If they get too quickly, you're

:06:52.:06:56.

disqualified. It's a different type of team work. We rely on different

:06:57.:07:01.

teams. This is a unique one. It's selfless. It's giving. It's generous

:07:02.:07:09.

and it's wonderful to see them both together. For Libby, she has

:07:10.:07:15.

experienced being disqualified because of a guide crossing a line

:07:16.:07:19.

first, Tracey Hinton as well, that's really difficult. What's

:07:20.:07:21.

first, Tracey Hinton as well, that's about athletics now is, I think,

:07:22.:07:26.

finally they're giving a medal to the guide runners as well. It's

:07:27.:07:31.

happened in cycling with the tandem. In athletics they stayed away from

:07:32.:07:34.

that. The guide was on the back of the podium, they didn't even really

:07:35.:07:37.

want them for the medal ceremony. It's important to recognise the

:07:38.:07:41.

partnership that the two bring to it. It means we are going to hear

:07:42.:07:46.

Flower of Scotland in this stadium. Michael heard Scotland's second

:07:47.:07:50.

anthem yesterday, the Proclaimers 500 Miles. He enjoyed that. He may

:07:51.:07:54.

enjoy the Flower of Scotland as well. I think I heard it earlier

:07:55.:07:59.

today. I enjoyed it. It's nice, very nice. I'm sure it will be great in

:08:00.:08:03.

this stadium with the home crowd. As I mentioned, it's a really busy

:08:04.:08:07.

evening, across the swimming and athletics. Before you came to us

:08:08.:08:13.

this evening, the women's semifinals had taken place for the 100m. You

:08:14.:08:19.

may, of the keen eared of you may have heard Andrew Cotter mention a

:08:20.:08:22.

name who was particularly dominant in those semifinals. Here they are

:08:23.:08:24.

for you now. Clean lay way Philip. She gets a

:08:25.:08:49.

good start. Does she still have the speed later in the race. She's

:08:50.:08:53.

powering away from Breen at the moment. Calvert and Philip will go

:08:54.:09:02.

through. Into a slight head wind. Good qualification from Philip as

:09:03.:09:06.

well. The most important thing for me was that Philip had a great start

:09:07.:09:11.

and pick up. That was critical for her. She's in the middle of the

:09:12.:09:13.

field. She exploded out of the blocks. She got into her running

:09:14.:09:17.

well. During the season she's been falling apart around this stage. But

:09:18.:09:20.

she kept the force going, all the way through, good focus, through to

:09:21.:09:24.

a nice qualification in second place. I think she'll be pleased

:09:25.:09:28.

with that performance. Confirmation of that first heat.

:09:29.:09:40.

This is the second of the three semifinals. For young Sophie Papps,

:09:41.:10:05.

lining up against Veronica Campbell-Brown, a huge task here.

:10:06.:10:08.

Two fastest loser spots are available.

:10:09.:10:16.

Campbell-Brown gets a good start. So does Bingham. Here comes

:10:17.:10:25.

Campbell-Brown. As expected she takes the win. Asumnu clear in

:10:26.:10:35.

second place. Her return to the sport is not something everyone is

:10:36.:10:39.

totally happy with. Campbell-Brown is easily through. She's getting

:10:40.:10:43.

better and better with every single race. Not the best of starts. An

:10:44.:10:48.

average start for her. Once she got into the very powerful stride of

:10:49.:10:53.

hers, good frequency, she ease add way from the field and you end up

:10:54.:10:57.

with this type of performance, easy qualification.

:10:58.:11:14.

Wonderful moments, nervous, but wonderful nonetheless for Amy

:11:15.:11:20.

Foster. Bianca Williams is in there as well.

:11:21.:11:25.

Maybe struggling keep with the pace, Amy Foster here. Ly away, Karen

:11:26.:11:45.

Stewart, Okagbare out into her tall stride. Williams coming through

:11:46.:11:52.

looking for a fastest time, Okagbare looking very impressive as in the

:11:53.:11:56.

first round. We saw what she could do in the first round. She cruised

:11:57.:12:00.

through to the qualification. Here, she ran even quicker. 10. 93, nice,

:12:01.:12:09.

strong running, focussed. Everything was perfect about this race. This is

:12:10.:12:13.

only the semifinal. The medals are given out in the final, can she

:12:14.:12:20.

deliver? What a time that is from Okagbare.

:12:21.:12:30.

Well done to Asha an Bianca making that final. We're hoping to speak to

:12:31.:12:47.

Libby Clegg. She's enjoying and lapping up her lap of honour and the

:12:48.:12:52.

crowd are loving seeing her. She's wondering around and shaking hands,

:12:53.:12:55.

as she should an enjoying every moment of that fabulous victory.

:12:56.:13:01.

Let's talk about the 100m, though. Disappoint ing for everybody here

:13:02.:13:09.

that Rochelle Aye wasn't in that semifinals. She didn't look like the

:13:10.:13:12.

athlete who blasted the field away at Diamond League a few weeks ago.

:13:13.:13:18.

She was carrying a heavy strapping on her leg, which suggests she is

:13:19.:13:23.

really hurt. She tweeted earlier in the week that it was only cramp, but

:13:24.:13:28.

it was much more inhibiting than Much more that. Serious. Absolutely.

:13:29.:13:31.

It's such a shame because she's had a fabulous season, a great season. I

:13:32.:13:35.

would have loved to have seen her competing against the likes of

:13:36.:13:39.

Okagbare and Campbell-Brown. The two outstanding women in that field.

:13:40.:13:45.

Absolutely. I was incredibly impressed with Okagbareracy race.

:13:46.:13:51.

She -- Okagbare's race. To run under 11 seconds in a semifinal, it looks

:13:52.:13:55.

complete opposite from what we're seeing from some of the men. The

:13:56.:14:01.

women are running, Veronica Campbell-Brown looks incredible, the

:14:02.:14:04.

best I've seen her in many years. That's a great match up. You can't

:14:05.:14:13.

forget Stuart. -- Stewart. That's where it's at for this race. 9. 35pm

:14:14.:14:18.

that final here on BBC One. Let's catch up with the women's hammer.

:14:19.:14:23.

Steve Backley has that for us. Sophie Hihchon of England guaranteed

:14:24.:14:25.

a bronze medal. Can she approve it? It's big. Maybe not quite big

:14:26.:14:49.

enough. It looked as though the lines there denoting the medal

:14:50.:14:55.

standings, the bronze was hers any way. Very inconsistent through this

:14:56.:15:00.

competition. Sophie hitting the cage ah, borting on throws. This was her

:15:01.:15:04.

last attempt. Her best so far, her first-round

:15:05.:15:10.

throw of 67. 59 will give her the bronze. Has she snuck into silver? I

:15:11.:15:19.

don't think so. Confirmation there: She takes bronze, though.

:15:20.:15:23.

don't think so. Confirmation there: Congratulations to Sophie Hihchon, a

:15:24.:15:26.

bronze for her, the former ballet dancer, still

:15:27.:15:29.

bronze for her, the former ballet her event. That will give her a lot

:15:30.:15:30.

of confidence her event. That will give her a lot

:15:31.:15:30.

into the sport. OK, her event. That will give her a lot

:15:31.:15:36.

Hampden Park for a while. We'll be back later. We will go to the

:15:37.:15:39.

swimming pool and Clare Balding. Thanks, and the big headline made by

:15:40.:15:47.

Jazz Carlin, who won gold in Thanks, and the big headline made by

:15:48.:15:55.

800m freestyle. We'll see the medal ceremony in

:15:56.:16:00.

800m freestyle. We'll see the medal which Ollie Hynde had qualified

:16:01.:16:05.

fastest. He was the Paralympic champion in the 200m individual

:16:06.:16:10.

medley from London and was five seconds given anybody else. Let's

:16:11.:16:13.

join Marc Woods and Andy Jamieson. A nice clear still head. He'd prefer

:16:14.:17:18.

to move a bit further away from the Australian but a great first 100.

:17:19.:17:24.

Let's see how he hit his turn. A better term than he managed this

:17:25.:17:25.

morning. -- turn. Clearly benefiting from significant

:17:26.:17:52.

use of his legs, Oliver Hynd. It must be very difficult to keep the

:17:53.:17:56.

balance of the breaststroke with a slightly unbalanced leg kick. He is

:17:57.:18:01.

pulling with both arms and getting the benefit. Here he comes into the

:18:02.:18:10.

final turn at at 1.49.74. They lot quicker than this morning, that. I

:18:11.:18:19.

think there is a very fast time. Peter Leek set a record in the

:18:20.:18:23.

Beijing Paralympics at two point 20.92. Ollie is pushing very hard,

:18:24.:18:29.

the champion from the 2012 Paralympics. The world record is

:18:30.:18:40.

2.20.92. He is just outside but a very good swim. Just outside of his

:18:41.:18:48.

own European record by nor .1 seconds. In doing that, winning the

:18:49.:18:53.

gold medal here, he has got the complete set - the Olympic gold, the

:18:54.:18:58.

world championship gold, the European gold and now the

:18:59.:19:03.

Commonwealth gold. Look how much he's won buy. That is an incredible

:19:04.:19:08.

victory. He is Paralympic champion, world champion. He owns this event.

:19:09.:19:24.

He may be just didn't have the people around him to get the world

:19:25.:19:27.

record. Prince William and Prince Harry are looking on. There is the

:19:28.:19:29.

confirmation of a gold medal for Oliver Hynd. Australia gets second

:19:30.:19:35.

and third to further increase their medal tally in a wonderful

:19:36.:19:39.

demonstration of Paralympic swimming.

:19:40.:19:44.

CLARE BALDING: These are life shots of the medal ceremony. The president

:19:45.:19:51.

of the Commonwealth Games Association is making the

:19:52.:19:53.

presentation of the medals themselves and the athletes are

:19:54.:20:08.

getting their quaich. Ollie Hynd now has the full set of European,

:20:09.:20:11.

Commonwealth, world and Paralympic gold medals. From Mansfield. He

:20:12.:20:19.

trains where under Glenn Smith. CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

:20:20.:20:22.

Listen to the reception for Ollie Hynd.

:20:23.:20:32.

He was so impressive. He dominated the race. Still only 19 years old.

:20:33.:20:42.

You think of how much more he could achieve. He will be heading to the

:20:43.:20:47.

Paralympic games in Rio into the creators and, I'm sure, to the Gold

:20:48.:20:52.

Coast for the Commonwealth Games in four years. Ladies and gentlemen,

:20:53.:20:56.

the national anthem of England. CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

:20:57.:22:15.

Their Royal Highness is the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince

:22:16.:22:18.

Harry have picked a very good might come to the swimming because they've

:22:19.:22:21.

seen a gold medal for England and earlier this evening, they saw a

:22:22.:22:25.

gold medal for Wales. It came from Jazz Carlin in the

:22:26.:22:29.

800m freestyle. It was a fabulous performance.

:22:30.:22:37.

We'll show you that in just a second. Another example of why these

:22:38.:22:47.

Commonwealth Games are such a good example of integrated sports. He's a

:22:48.:22:54.

bit of a star, Ollie Hynd. His brother Sam has retired from

:22:55.:22:59.

swimming now, leaving him to leave the family on, as it were, and he

:23:00.:23:05.

will make a lap of the pool and I'm sure Sharron will get a word with

:23:06.:23:08.

him when he comes back from the water.

:23:09.:23:17.

A lot of love out there for Ollie. And Marc Woods watching on. He was

:23:18.:23:32.

going for the gold-medal... Sorry, going for the world record, and that

:23:33.:23:37.

didn't come off but he was incredibly impressive and did more

:23:38.:23:38.

than he needed to do. You need that kind of thing to push

:23:39.:24:03.

you on. Marc Woods didn't hear me earlier but I think we can hear from

:24:04.:24:08.

him now. Yes, I've been able to hear you but you haven't been hearing

:24:09.:24:17.

me! You are absolutely right. He did talk to Sharron earlier about trying

:24:18.:24:21.

to achieve the world record but he thinks you need something to push

:24:22.:24:25.

you an and it wasn't there for him today. No real stiff competition

:24:26.:24:30.

next to him. He'll be delighted with that gold medal. He's completed that

:24:31.:24:34.

set of gold medals and that was his key objective this week, to get the

:24:35.:24:40.

gold to match up with the European, world and Paralympic medals. You can

:24:41.:24:47.

see how much it means to him. He lives in Mansfield and Becky will

:24:48.:24:57.

know him well. His coach Sam has done a great job. Nice to see some

:24:58.:25:03.

Australians walking through an England guard of honour! I wonder

:25:04.:25:09.

whether we might see Ollie's brother and family. He is walking towards

:25:10.:25:19.

the Spectator's area. There is his coach, absolutely delighted for him.

:25:20.:25:32.

Ollie Hynd can't stop smiling. We'll let him complete his lap of honour

:25:33.:25:39.

and take you back to the 800m freestyle final which

:25:40.:25:42.

and take you back to the 800m Jazz Carlin Wales. She becomes the

:25:43.:25:46.

third Welsh gold medallist at these games, following Frankie Jones in

:25:47.:25:50.

the rhythmic gymnastics, and Napoli Howard in judo, and she set a new

:25:51.:25:56.

Games record in the process and the former Commonwealth Games champion

:25:57.:25:56.

Rebecca Adlington was watching on. REBECCA ADLINGTON: It was a stunning

:25:57.:26:08.

race. She paced it so well. I knew she would back in the last 400 and

:26:09.:26:12.

come back strong. I thought it would be a bit between them but I think it

:26:13.:26:16.

was a really good confidence boost going into next year. She's stepped

:26:17.:26:28.

up to receive her gold-medal and heard Land Of Our Fathers.

:26:29.:27:39.

team. Her parents were here as well and

:27:40.:27:57.

her two little cousins. Jazz is beside herself with joy. That is a

:27:58.:28:02.

big moment for her, her first major individual title, Becky. Yes, she's

:28:03.:28:06.

had a difficult few years and had a funny year this year with Swansea,

:28:07.:28:14.

Performance Center has now. Her coach has moved to Australia so

:28:15.:28:18.

she's had to split her time with six weeks in Australia and six weeks

:28:19.:28:22.

here. But it didn't make a difference. You can see how

:28:23.:28:31.

overjoyed her parents are. It was just wonderful. Look, here come the

:28:32.:28:41.

little girls! They've got "go, Jazz" on their T-shirts. It's so lovely! A

:28:42.:28:47.

really wonderful moment. We rejoin live pictures and you can hear the

:28:48.:28:53.

response to Katie Armitage. CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

:28:54.:28:58.

Ali Atkinson aims to become the first-ever gold medallist in the

:28:59.:29:02.

pool for Jamaica. Sophie Taylor will be alongside her in the two fast

:29:03.:29:07.

lanes. Let's rejoin Adrian Moorhouse and Andy Jamieson.

:29:08.:29:11.

COMMENTATOR: Wouldn't it be special if we could get Jamaica to get a

:29:12.:29:19.

gold? Having said that, she's got some good young Aussies and Sophie

:29:20.:29:24.

Taylor. Sally Hunter goes in Lane 6, the fourth fastest. She got a silver

:29:25.:29:35.

in the 200m freestyle. Lorna Tonks actually used to represent England.

:29:36.:29:41.

She moved with her family aged 16. Sophie Taylor is from Leeds, my home

:29:42.:29:50.

club. She's moving down to London but she has a wonderful opportunity

:29:51.:30:00.

here to make a podium. The build-up for this summer has been excellent

:30:01.:30:05.

but I then this could be a good chance for a gold-medal for Ali

:30:06.:30:12.

Atkinson. I think this race is pretty wide open. No one is a

:30:13.:30:17.

standout favourite. The Australians are very good, Sophie Taylor, the

:30:18.:30:28.

British record-holder, is very good. It's about who manages the nerves.

:30:29.:30:38.

Lane 8 is Atkinson. She will be out quickly. She will be nearest the

:30:39.:30:40.

camera but she never really holds onto it.

:30:41.:30:51.

Very good reaction from Atkinson for Jamaica. The Black cat, one line

:30:52.:31:04.

closer to us from the leader, is Sophie Taylor for England. -- black

:31:05.:31:15.

hat. Taylor is the other black cap nearest to us. Looking for a great

:31:16.:31:18.

position. of the rest of the field. She's

:31:19.:31:31.

streaking away. Can Jamaica win their first Gold Medal at the

:31:32.:31:34.

Commonwealth Games? She's going to have to tie up an awful lot, but

:31:35.:31:39.

she's done that before. Hold onto your stroke here. Coming back

:31:40.:31:43.

strongly is Taylor. She is coming back. Sophie Taylor from England,

:31:44.:31:47.

the 18-year-old is overtaking. Can she win gold for England? Goodness

:31:48.:31:53.

me this is a wonderful swim. Sophie Taylor wins gold for England in the

:31:54.:31:58.

100m breaststroke! A massive British record for her and what a wonderful

:31:59.:32:06.

swim, gold to Taylor. That is brilliant. Silver to Tonks of

:32:07.:32:10.

Australia and Atkinson gets the bronze for Jamaica. Sophie Taylor's

:32:11.:32:14.

last 38, brilliant! Fantastic, again, we've talked about this with

:32:15.:32:17.

a couple of other swimmers from the home countries, to have the nerve

:32:18.:32:21.

just to sit back a little bit, have the confidence and maturity in so

:32:22.:32:25.

young. Atkinson, the 25-year-old, she was in Athens at the age of 15

:32:26.:32:32.

in 2004. Atkinson using all her speed. Taylor, just well off the

:32:33.:32:37.

shoulder here. Coming into turn, big old turn, coming up and all the work

:32:38.:32:41.

from here. You're right, 259 metres to go, right now -- 25 metres to go,

:32:42.:32:46.

right now she's accelerating like a rocket. Moves away from Atkinson and

:32:47.:32:51.

dominates this. Look, they look like they're standing still. What's

:32:52.:32:57.

really interesting was she held onto her stroke there. Hold onto that

:32:58.:33:01.

stroke and don't get too excited. What a difference it makes when she

:33:02.:33:05.

does it right. It's a very painful thing to do, but it's really

:33:06.:33:08.

important. You can't rush the strokes in the last five metres.

:33:09.:33:13.

Being able to bring the arms forward and throw them forward when they're

:33:14.:33:19.

hurt soing much, but that was -- hurting so much, but that was

:33:20.:33:20.

wonderful. hurting so much, but that was

:33:21.:33:23.

British Gold Medal if the breaststroke.

:33:24.:33:25.

What a night! What a night we've had. What a stunning swim that was.

:33:26.:33:40.

We have to be quick because you have to get this medal presentation,

:33:41.:33:46.

that's scrorder that. You -- extraordinary, you were so strong on

:33:47.:33:49.

the last part of the race. Yeah I wasn't where I wanted to be on the

:33:50.:33:53.

first 50, then you turned and I knew I had to give it my all. I could see

:33:54.:34:01.

Alli next to me and I could see she's dying. I kept going and going.

:34:02.:34:05.

I gave it my all. Came out with the best time and a Gold Medal And

:34:06.:34:09.

Commonwealth champion. That's fantastic. You'd better go. We're

:34:10.:34:13.

looking forward to this. Well done, honey. Thank you.

:34:14.:34:18.

Goodness me, it's coming thick and fast. Straight into the women's 200m

:34:19.:34:27.

butterfly final. Here's Hannah Miley. She started off the

:34:28.:34:31.

Commonwealth Games in the very best fashion for Scotland, gold in the

:34:32.:34:35.

first race, the women's 400 medley. This is the 800 free, 200 fly

:34:36.:34:46.

double. It's a big ask. Alys Thomas walking out. I think she has a

:34:47.:34:55.

chance as well. This is interesting, Ellen Gany -- Gandy from Australia,

:34:56.:35:02.

she was a World Championship Silver Medallist in 2011 and then decided

:35:03.:35:08.

to represent Australia. Aimee Willmott. Silver on the 400 medley

:35:09.:35:13.

in lane six, fourth fastest coming into this 200 fly, could she get a

:35:14.:35:33.

medal? Gemma and Ellen both represented Britain in London. It's

:35:34.:35:40.

going to be interesting. Jazz Carlin won the gold on the 800 free.

:35:41.:35:49.

It could be Wales' night That would tonight. Be great.

:35:50.:35:57.

Two Welsh women in this final. For me, this is wide-open. The Gold

:35:58.:36:02.

Medal could go anywhere. This could go anywhere. There is

:36:03.:36:05.

Jemma Lowe low. On the right day, she can be

:36:06.:36:15.

brilliant. Madeleine Groves of Australia, the fastest qualifier,

:36:16.:36:30.

her first major final. The winner could come from any of these lanes

:36:31.:36:35.

at all. Champion on the 100, down on the

:36:36.:36:39.

bottom, Savard, from Canada in eight.

:36:40.:36:47.

So the final of the women's 200m butterfly. And in the centre

:36:48.:36:55.

possibly the best start coming from Maddy Groves of Australia. All

:36:56.:37:00.

fairly even down the first 30 metres. Groves did look good this

:37:01.:37:04.

morning. The youngest in the field at 19. Maybe the one who seized the

:37:05.:37:09.

opportunity and decides to at 19. Maybe the one who seized the

:37:10.:37:13.

go. So many of the teenagers have been doing that. At the bottom,

:37:14.:37:19.

go. So many of the teenagers have Savard, the 00 m Gold Medal -- 100m

:37:20.:37:21.

Gold Medallist using that sprint to maybe shock the field. They don't

:37:22.:37:27.

know what is coming at them from an outside swimmer. Don't know. In the

:37:28.:37:30.

heats this morning, Savard went out quickly, just like this at the

:37:31.:37:35.

bottom and paid for it on the second 100 and looked exhausted at the end.

:37:36.:37:39.

What happened is Maddy Groves in the centre, with the Australian hat,

:37:40.:37:43.

swap away from the -- swam away from the rest of the

:37:44.:37:44.

swap away from the -- swam away from the centre there, also, is Jemma

:37:45.:37:54.

Lowe low of Wales. This is looking good for Gemma This could play into

:37:55.:38:03.

Jemma's hands. You can't write off Ellen Gandy. Savard is holding onto

:38:04.:38:05.

it. Ellen Gandy. Savard is holding onto

:38:06.:38:17.

on? We have lane two, three, five and seven. It's really

:38:18.:38:22.

lead is changing all over the place. Lane six has

:38:23.:38:25.

lead is changing all over the place. Willmott. My goodness me.

:38:26.:38:28.

lead is changing all over the place. Savard, who is holding on at the

:38:29.:38:32.

bottom. Goodness me, could we possibly have Willmott

:38:33.:38:34.

bottom. Goodness me, could we is going to be so close, so close

:38:35.:38:39.

down this last 25 metres. It looks like to be Lacroix in three. She's

:38:40.:38:46.

holding on. Still Aimee is there. It's so tight down this last five.

:38:47.:38:49.

Who will get the touch? It looks like it may be up in lane three,

:38:50.:38:54.

Lacroix, on the touch, oh, it is. Lacroix takes the gold. The silver

:38:55.:39:00.

goes to Willmott of England, a brilliant swim for her. The bronze

:39:01.:39:04.

to Maddy Groves of Australia. Well, that is quite sensational for

:39:05.:39:09.

Willmott. I bet she didn't even dream of that. She was only half a

:39:10.:39:13.

stroke out of gold. Maybe not dream about it, but I bet she wanted it.

:39:14.:39:17.

Another opportunity to grab a Gold Medal and two silvers, well, she's

:39:18.:39:21.

had a great meet really. Just didn't quite manage to get the Gold Medal.

:39:22.:39:29.

Lacroix, best time 2. 05, she's fulfilled the part of her potential.

:39:30.:39:33.

Willmott looked very good, you know. Really strong towards the end.

:39:34.:39:44.

Savard couldn't quite hold onto the pace. Drops off into eighth place.

:39:45.:39:52.

Really hurt her. Alys Thomas had a good swim as well, from Wales,

:39:53.:39:53.

fourthment CLARE BALDING: A great effort from

:39:54.:40:08.

Aimee Willmott. Could be more to come when you rejoin us in the pool.

:40:09.:40:13.

Here's Gabby at the athletics. Thank you very much. It's coming

:40:14.:40:18.

thick and fast here at Hampden. Well done England. Baroness Tanni

:40:19.:40:22.

Grey-Thompson was more excited about Jazz Carlin's medal ceremony there,

:40:23.:40:27.

a few tears. Will there be tears here if Rhys Jones can upset the

:40:28.:40:32.

apple cart here in the T 37 final. He's not the favourite. Let's go to

:40:33.:40:40.

our commentary team. Home representation in lane six.

:40:41.:41:11.

Jones in with a good shout of a medal. In this T 37 class, moderate

:41:12.:41:21.

to minimum hemiplegia. They look strong, Van der Merwe and Du Toit.

:41:22.:41:30.

Away they go. Van der Merwe out strongly. It is the South Africans

:41:31.:41:33.

looking for a one, two. Rhys Jones trying to get in there. Van der

:41:34.:41:41.

Merwe is going to take this. Charles Du Toit with the silver. South

:41:42.:41:44.

African one, two. Welsh bronze as well.

:41:45.:41:52.

We expected it. We thought it might be a South African dominated race

:41:53.:41:55.

and it was. Rhys Jones pushed them hard all the way, the 20-year-old. A

:41:56.:42:01.

good run. But Van der Merwe is the strong man in this event in the

:42:02.:42:05.

Commonwealth and so it proved. Great experience for all, especially young

:42:06.:42:10.

Jason Maclean there. We mentioned the 18-year-old. He'll have enjoyed

:42:11.:42:15.

the crowd and the noise an support for him. Tanni was watching, what

:42:16.:42:22.

did you make this afternoon? Fantastic race for Van der Merwe.

:42:23.:42:25.

Expected in terms of his time on paper and also, how he ran earlier

:42:26.:42:31.

today, but Du Toit big step up on the international stage for him.

:42:32.:42:35.

Rhys Jones as well should be really pleased with that run for him. He's

:42:36.:42:41.

a good time and a very solid race. It looks very good for home nations

:42:42.:42:44.

sprinting, the fact that we've got two Scottish athletes, who are in

:42:45.:42:48.

the semis today and have come through. It's going to be really

:42:49.:42:52.

good to push Rhys Jones on to bigger and better things. Because where he

:42:53.:42:56.

needs to be pushed is in some of the European-level economy Titians. --

:42:57.:43:05.

European-level competitions. We're talking about, not a broad class,

:43:06.:43:11.

but the T 37, well it is with minimal dysfunction on either side,

:43:12.:43:16.

Van der Merwe has a good balance in his running. Technically he's the

:43:17.:43:21.

best runner in the field. If you look to Rhys Jones and Maclean on

:43:22.:43:27.

left, you can see how the hemiplegia affects them when they're running.

:43:28.:43:31.

They're not able to have an even running style, which Van der Merwe

:43:32.:43:33.

has. It will be interesting to see what they can do as home nation

:43:34.:43:38.

athletes with a bit more training, a bit more exposure to this level of

:43:39.:43:43.

We're look competition. Ing forward to the European para sport

:43:44.:43:46.

championships in Swansea next month. Rhys Jones will be enjoying himself

:43:47.:43:51.

there at Swansea University next month. But here, at Hampden Park, he

:43:52.:43:57.

is a bronze medallist. GABBY LOGAN: Earlier, we saw Libby

:43:58.:44:02.

Clegg absolutely dominant in the final of the T12 100 metres winning

:44:03.:44:11.

Scotland's 33rd medal of these Games, equalling their haul from

:44:12.:44:15.

Edinburgh in '86. A wonderful Gold Medal-winning performance. She took

:44:16.:44:18.

about 15 minutes for her lap of honour. Finally Phil Jones caught up

:44:19.:44:25.

with her. Libby, Mikel, congratulations, what

:44:26.:44:28.

a moment for Scotland, what a moment for the pair of you and a wonderful

:44:29.:44:31.

lap of honour, describe what this means to you. It's been fantastic

:44:32.:44:37.

competing here this evening. We ran really well. We won. We're happy.

:44:38.:44:41.

It's been absolutely fantastic. The crowd are brilliant. The atmosphere

:44:42.:44:46.

is just amazing in here tonight. I know you hoped it would be an

:44:47.:44:51.

inspiration for you. You expect it to be an inspiration. Tell me what

:44:52.:44:54.

it's like when you know all these people are cheering for you guys. It

:44:55.:44:57.

was serious. London was an experience in itself. This was

:44:58.:45:00.

totally different. You can't compare the two. Libby, as a Scot, and me as

:45:01.:45:13.

duel Scot heritage. We can't thank them enough. It's something special.

:45:14.:45:16.

We've had so much support along the way, all my sponsors, BP, SSE, Scot

:45:17.:45:24.

Rail, and my coach, Keith. Definitely. Tim and Dave. They're so

:45:25.:45:29.

much. It's just amazing. It's been brilliant. We can still hear the

:45:30.:45:33.

atmosphere in here tonight. It is incredible. What kind of things were

:45:34.:45:36.

being said to you on the way round there? That you can share! It's it

:45:37.:45:42.

was so nice. Amazing performance, how do you do that? It was out of

:45:43.:45:47.

this world. Saying how proud they were. It was amazing, honestly. Amid

:45:48.:45:52.

it all, you had to come here with the pressure to deliver. Irch

:45:53.:45:55.

expected to you win and you did. You did a world-leading time when you

:45:56.:46:00.

most needed it. Definitely. I didn't really necessarily feel the pressure

:46:01.:46:04.

too much. You know, it is a bit daunting when you know everybody

:46:05.:46:06.

wants you to win and expects you to win. As soon as the crowd went in

:46:07.:46:13.

the heat, I sort of just laughed and oh, it's amazing. When you're on

:46:14.:46:17.

this platform, you have to come out here and deliver. People at home

:46:18.:46:20.

watching can see exactly what we do. At the end of the day, it's good for

:46:21.:46:24.

Paralympic sport. It's good for sport in general. I spoke about the

:46:25.:46:30.

puzzle, and we've completed the Commonwealth puzzle, no injuries and

:46:31.:46:36.

smiles. And a Gold Medal to end it. Incredible, congratulations to you

:46:37.:46:43.

both again. Fantastic to hear from them, loving

:46:44.:46:49.

this moment. The hard work they've put in. The questions people have

:46:50.:46:54.

asked other way round, it did spring to mind that there will be people

:46:55.:46:58.

all over the UK tying their wrists together, wondering if they Cameron

:46:59.:47:02.

like that and see how difficult it is. There could be a few accidents

:47:03.:47:06.

in the school holidays! I did have a young man write to me and say that

:47:07.:47:16.

wouldn't buy him a prosthetic leg wouldn't buy him a prosthetic leg

:47:17.:47:19.

and he wanted sponsorship but it turned out he wasn't a leg amputee!

:47:20.:47:24.

It is the men's shot-put final tonight. How's it going, Steve

:47:25.:47:28.

Backley? It's all over. We've confirmed the

:47:29.:47:33.

medallist. This was the bronze medal for Tim Nedow of Canada.

:47:34.:47:40.

It started a ripple effect in this fourth round. I say it started a

:47:41.:47:49.

ripple effect. There was good rotation demonstrated. 20 .59m. Tom

:47:50.:48:07.

Walsh here. He was two centimetres in the lead. He then extended it 21

:48:08.:48:30.

metres plus. 21.19m. He needed 21.24m for qualification so it was

:48:31.:48:38.

just shy of that. 21m plus is world-class throwing. That is second

:48:39.:48:43.

place because this just preceded it. Oh Dane Richards who thought he

:48:44.:48:50.

might becoming if a silver medal because of Walsh's supremacy... This

:48:51.:48:59.

was a huge throw. Way beyond the Games record for the Jamaican. 25

:49:00.:49:05.

years of age, a lifetime best of 21.11m.

:49:06.:49:14.

right there. 20th in Moscow last year qualifying. There have been

:49:15.:49:20.

questions about his mentality but they have been answered. That is the

:49:21.:49:30.

confirmation. A comfortable victory for that big throw from the Jamaican

:49:31.:49:35.

ahead of the fancied Tom Walsh and Tim Nedow of Canada.

:49:36.:49:48.

GABBY LOGAN: A bit earlier we saw the conclusion of the women's

:49:49.:49:54.

hammer. Sultana Frizell of Canada won that. And a bronze medal, the

:49:55.:50:05.

first medal at senior level, for Sophie Hitchen. She spoke to Philip.

:50:06.:50:11.

You've secured the medal you so desperately wanted. Give me your

:50:12.:50:18.

emotions. It's kind of difficult to say at the moment. I felt like I

:50:19.:50:24.

really could have won that and my throw... I just got it together on

:50:25.:50:27.

the last round and it just all quite far enough. -- just wasn't quite far

:50:28.:50:33.

enough. But I'm really happy with the medal I've got. As you're going

:50:34.:50:37.

through the competition, you are just trying to get it right and it

:50:38.:50:40.

isn't quite getting there? What's going through your mind? You just

:50:41.:50:45.

want to go on and be strong but, like I said, the first few rounds

:50:46.:50:51.

were a bit jerky and then I got it together but that's just the way it

:50:52.:50:59.

goes sometimes. So, you sound a sad disappointed -- a tad disappointed

:51:00.:51:03.

in spite of winning a medal. You're building quite a portfolio of

:51:04.:51:07.

medals, though. Yes, I feel like it is a good stepping stone for the

:51:08.:51:13.

next few years. I'm pleased with a medal but I'm an athlete and I

:51:14.:51:17.

wanted the very best so I'm always critical. That is a fantastic

:51:18.:51:21.

attitude, actually. Well done on the medal and good luck going forward.

:51:22.:51:27.

GABBY LOGAN: Congratulations to Sophie Hitchen. The sun is setting

:51:28.:51:30.

beautifully over Hampden this evening. The wind is getting up

:51:31.:51:33.

slightly and it is certainly cooler than I was for the 100m semifinals

:51:34.:51:38.

so it will be interesting to see where the temperature reaches by the

:51:39.:51:42.

time we get to 9:35pm, the women's final. We'll be back here for plenty

:51:43.:51:46.

more athletics very soon but let's go back to Tollcross and Clare

:51:47.:51:49.

Balding. It's all gone. The 50m breast

:51:50.:51:54.

refinement is about to come with three Scots and Adam Peaty of

:51:55.:51:58.

England. But the medal ceremony for Sophie Taylor has just happened. She

:51:59.:52:07.

set a new British record. She's just stepped up from the juniors and this

:52:08.:52:14.

is her first junior meet. She is now, champion. It was a great swim.

:52:15.:52:20.

REBECCA ADLINGTON: A fantastic swim. She didn't swim great in the 200m

:52:21.:52:26.

breaststroke so this was her event that she wanted to claim for herself

:52:27.:52:31.

and she certainly did. She's been down to the aquatic centre in London

:52:32.:52:38.

to train with a new coach. We look forward to seeing more of her in the

:52:39.:52:42.

future. Meanwhile here come the men for the 50m breaststroke. But the

:52:43.:52:47.

home Nations win all three breaststroke gold medals? We'll find

:52:48.:52:51.

out very shortly. The Scots will get the biggest support with Mark Tully

:52:52.:52:59.

in-line six. They also have two other contenders. Let's join Andy.

:53:00.:53:05.

COMMENTATOR: Those were the Scottish swimmers but here is Adam Peaty, the

:53:06.:53:10.

gold medallist in the 100m breaststroke. Can anybody beat the

:53:11.:53:19.

world record holder? Cameron Bundaberg was not on form for the

:53:20.:53:21.

disappointing silver but right on form for this. -- Van Der Burgh. I

:53:22.:53:33.

think Adam Peaty has got to slow down just a touch. He was very

:53:34.:53:39.

excited in the semis. Springer is the fastest in the world this year.

:53:40.:53:45.

Goodness me! This gold medal could come anywhere. Ross Murdoch. He is

:53:46.:53:49.

only the second fastest Scotsman in this final of the men's 50m

:53:50.:53:58.

breaststroke. The third Scot was third at the Scottish Championships

:53:59.:54:04.

in the 50m breaststroke. I have a new frowned reparation for anyone

:54:05.:54:08.

who can win a medal at the Scottish champ in chips. -- a new-found

:54:09.:54:15.

admiration for anyone who can win a medal at the Scottish Championships.

:54:16.:54:21.

They have been pushed all the way by Adam Beattie, Chris Murdoch and

:54:22.:54:35.

others. -- Adam Peaty. Taking a breath, concentrating. The fastest

:54:36.:54:40.

three men in the world in Lane 3, lame for an claim five. Adam Peaty

:54:41.:54:46.

choosing to face away from Van Der Burgh and facing another opponent

:54:47.:54:50.

instead. Interesting. A one length breaststroke and the

:54:51.:55:02.

champions from the 200 and 100 are here. The world record holder is in

:55:03.:55:08.

the centre lane, Van Der Burgh of South Africa. Bundaberg very fast

:55:09.:55:16.

down the first 25. Adam Peaty in the black hat is coming through. It

:55:17.:55:23.

looks like it may be Van Der Burgh who gets the touch. Cameron Van Der

:55:24.:55:31.

Burgh of South Africa wins the gold, the silver to Adam Peaty and

:55:32.:55:35.

the bronze goes to Christian Sprenger of Australia. Two one

:55:36.:55:47.

hundredths of a second. Van Der Burgh is 27 and Adam Peaty is 19 so

:55:48.:55:50.

I think Adam Peaty is thinking Burgh is 27 and Adam Peaty is 19 so

:55:51.:55:55.

will outlast you". He is used to this, winning medals. A

:55:56.:55:59.

disappointment for Springer to get the bronze. -- Christian Sprenger.

:56:00.:56:13.

Tully Mr bronze by hundreds. I think this suits Van Der Burgh's stroked a

:56:14.:56:20.

little bit more than Adam Peaty's. Adam Peaty coming through very

:56:21.:56:23.

quickly. He looked across and the first thing that happened then...

:56:24.:56:32.

There was no way that you could see by your rise, you would have to look

:56:33.:56:36.

at the clock. Happy to be on the winning end there. Really close,

:56:37.:56:43.

gold and silver, and close again on the fourth. Fantastic race. I love

:56:44.:56:56.

these breaststroke races. Van Der Burgh, the world record holder in

:56:57.:57:02.

the men's 50m breaststroke, has won gold. A great silver from Adam Peaty

:57:03.:57:05.

and the bronze to Christian Sprenger. What a final!

:57:06.:57:14.

Very well done. Did you know you had it when you touch the wall? No. It

:57:15.:57:21.

was a tough race and I knew it was going to be. I was on the right side

:57:22.:57:27.

of the finishing line. Such a great competition. I'm looking forward to

:57:28.:57:30.

competing with Adam more often. competition. I'm looking forward to

:57:31.:57:34.

These are whippersnappers are chasing new! They are giving the

:57:35.:57:38.

Alwen a bit of a chase for their money. I remember the days when I

:57:39.:57:45.

was young and Adam is firing it up in me again. I lost it in the last

:57:46.:57:49.

few years and got complacent but it is good to have it back now. We'll

:57:50.:57:54.

let you go because I'm sure the South Africans want to speak to you.

:57:55.:57:58.

Thank you. When. Adam, that was so close. You gave

:57:59.:58:03.

away probably half a second and that's the difference. You were fast

:58:04.:58:07.

on the swim. There's always things to work on. I got quite fast in my

:58:08.:58:18.

swimming but it is definitely the dive of the next season, just to get

:58:19.:58:22.

the powerful died. What's exciting is you do have things to work on so

:58:23.:58:26.

you know you can get faster. Definitely. It's an exciting

:58:27.:58:30.

prospect but nothing is ever a given so I'm looking forward to getting

:58:31.:58:33.

out there, fixing, and seeing what we've got to look forward to next

:58:34.:58:38.

season. Thank you very much. A lot of people asking why they work

:58:39.:58:41.

themselves before they dive in. I will ask that question before you

:58:42.:58:47.

combat. Fran Halsall is going in the 200m freestyle and Chad le Clos is

:58:48.:58:51.

going up against Adam Barrett of England. But now back to Gary.

:58:52.:58:55.

From Splash to squash and it was a big day for England. They were

:58:56.:58:57.

guaranteed a gold in the men's final as Nick Matthew took on James

:58:58.:59:00.

Willstrop, while as Nick Matthew took on James

:59:01.:59:08.

what happened. The women's final. It

:59:09.:59:27.

characteristic. Unusual. That's more like it for Nicol David. More

:59:28.:59:35.

authority. Wow! A breathtaking shot. Now the boot is on the other foot. I

:59:36.:59:46.

guess that's one of the reasons why she is the world number one.

:59:47.:59:53.

Lightning quick, Nicol David. She looked out of the rally. Her

:59:54.:00:00.

brilliance coming out now. She never seems to be a tad tense. Immaculate

:00:01.:00:07.

length for Nicol David. I think the writing is on the wall for Laura

:00:08.:00:12.

Massaro. She's done it! She is the champion again. James Willstrop has

:00:13.:00:23.

been in immaculate form. Matthew is a strong favourite. Expect a war of

:00:24.:00:30.

attrition here. An outrageous shot. Matthew holds on and the number one

:00:31.:00:37.

seed takes the first game. Well played! Kept Matthew guessing. This

:00:38.:00:43.

is a must win game for Willstrop. And he's got it. It is 1-1 here.

:00:44.:00:52.

Best of three from him. Well played. It needed a response from Nick

:00:53.:00:56.

Matthew after what happened in the second game and he supplied it. More

:00:57.:01:03.

frustration for James Willstrop. Oh, yes! And now it's a one-game shoot

:01:04.:01:11.

out. This is the gold-medal point. Yes! Down and out is a Willstrop and

:01:12.:01:21.

the gold medal goes to the world's number two, Nick Matthew.

:01:22.:01:23.

thrilling. I watched it on BBC One. That was a thoroughly entertaining

:01:24.:01:41.

afternoon. How tough was that, you couldn't shake him off, could you?

:01:42.:01:45.

No. We've had a great rivalry throughout our careers. Hopefully

:01:46.:01:50.

that match will define it. There's no greater stage than the

:01:51.:01:53.

Commonwealth Games final, home turf and amazing crowd. It doesn't get

:01:54.:01:58.

much tougher than In many that. Ways perhaps you would have preferred to

:01:59.:02:00.

have played a non-Englishman, would you? It was bitter sweet. Hi to play

:02:01.:02:05.

Peter yesterday. James today. Great for the team that we got one, two,

:02:06.:02:08.

three on the podium. You would have liked to not have to meet the other

:02:09.:02:13.

English guys, but we're proud that we've got England's first one, two

:02:14.:02:18.

three of the games. Is he one to gloat, he's beaten you both? Yeah. I

:02:19.:02:25.

saw your quote actually. You said that these two don't really get on,

:02:26.:02:30.

there's an intense rivalry and they're chalk and cheese. Which one

:02:31.:02:37.

is chalk? I'm going to with Nick. I'm going to go with Nick. Thanks.

:02:38.:02:44.

They're very different people. The professionalism they showed today

:02:45.:02:46.

was incredible. It was a fabulous match. What as the difference today?

:02:47.:02:51.

It was so tight, it could have gone either It was, way. Yeah. I don't

:02:52.:02:56.

know. Nick I thought played such good squash in the fifth. It was

:02:57.:03:00.

close Aldama the way. Physically we were probably about the same, which

:03:01.:03:04.

usually probably he gets me in that department. But today, for obvious

:03:05.:03:09.

reasons, Nick's had surgery recently. You know, we were quite

:03:10.:03:14.

level physically. He played some great squash in the fifth. I did

:03:15.:03:18.

everything I could. He got a great start to about five, and I left it

:03:19.:03:23.

out there, he was too good, I think. How sweet is this victory for you?

:03:24.:03:29.

It's an amazing feeling. I had the great honour of carrying the flag at

:03:30.:03:33.

the Opening Ceremony. I didn't want to bow out in the early rounds

:03:34.:03:36.

having done that. I wanted to back it up with a good performance on the

:03:37.:03:40.

court. That's at the end of the day what we came here to do. Laura, you

:03:41.:03:43.

didn't quite get gold. You ran close. You came up against ape great

:03:44.:03:47.

player in great form. You are the world champion. But just too much

:03:48.:03:52.

today? Yeah Nicol is in great form, for sure. She has been recently as

:03:53.:03:58.

well. She's going to go down as one of the best female squash players in

:03:59.:04:01.

history. To be in that sort of era with her is tough going. But I am a

:04:02.:04:06.

better player for her being around. Although it's bitter disappointment

:04:07.:04:09.

not to get the gold I'm proud of my Silver Medal. You started so well,

:04:10.:04:13.

7-4 up in the first game. Losing that was too big a blow to come back

:04:14.:04:17.

from. Yeah, you look back at turning points in the match and for sure,

:04:18.:04:19.

maybe the first game could have changed the way it panned out after

:04:20.:04:24.

that. She seemed to gain in momentum and confidence and settle down quite

:04:25.:04:27.

a lot after that first game, which when she gets on a roll like, that

:04:28.:04:31.

she's very difficult to stop. So, that first game, yeah, turned out to

:04:32.:04:35.

be crucial. Great show case for squash, Peter, isn't it, to have

:04:36.:04:39.

this sort of competitive edge as well and Aldama seen on prime-time

:04:40.:04:44.

perfect? Because squash doesn't always get a fair run, it's not even

:04:45.:04:48.

an Olympic sport. For me, it should be, it's a thrilling sport to watch.

:04:49.:04:54.

This is the ultimate showcase for us and the pinnacle of our careers. To

:04:55.:05:00.

do it here and to execute it one, two, three has been a great week.

:05:01.:05:05.

I'm very proud of the bronze I achieved and I'm also very proud of

:05:06.:05:09.

the England squash, who we represent. We saw Nick, actualfully

:05:10.:05:14.

your event, you got emotional at the end, great scenes. You had a knee

:05:15.:05:17.

problem. Hopefully we have pictures of it. Where you kissed your knee at

:05:18.:05:21.

the end of the match. Then you found your partner in the crowd and you

:05:22.:05:26.

kissed her. And then you kissed her bump as well. Was that planned. Not

:05:27.:05:32.

the baby, I mean, the kiss! Yeah, the baby was planned. I can't

:05:33.:05:36.

remember what I did after, to be honest I tried to kiss everyone in

:05:37.:05:41.

the venue at one point. There were about 2,500 so that would have been

:05:42.:05:44.

tough. I have to enjoy the next four, five weeks now. The baby is

:05:45.:05:48.

due early September, our first child. James and Peter are both

:05:49.:05:51.

fathers and they've been telling me that my life is going to change. Oh,

:05:52.:05:55.

it's going to change, I can assure you! Here you go. This is you.

:05:56.:06:01.

Climbing up. Better get my rest in now. One for the Do you baby. Know

:06:02.:06:05.

what it is? A little girl. Congratulations from Aldama of us

:06:06.:06:08.

for that. I hope everything goes well there. Magical moments for you.

:06:09.:06:12.

A great time in your life. It is, yeah. My life is going to change for

:06:13.:06:17.

sure. This is the best moment for now. The best is still to come, I

:06:18.:06:20.

can't wait. What about the Olympics, do you think it's a possibility? Do

:06:21.:06:27.

you think it should happen? Thanks for looking at me then. Yeah it's

:06:28.:06:30.

the question we're asked Aldama the time. -- Asked all the time. We're

:06:31.:06:39.

gutted we're not in the Olympics. Hopefully, I think we've been on

:06:40.:06:43.

prime time today. We've shown, as Peter said, it's a showcase. This is

:06:44.:06:48.

a great platform to do it. It's well covered on television nowadays and

:06:49.:06:51.

it's quite a physical sport in many ways. It's quite argumentive. There

:06:52.:06:56.

are a lot of moments where you block each other out. There are video refs

:06:57.:07:01.

thankfully. I used to play, and you used d to complain about people

:07:02.:07:05.

getting in your way. The video review, adds a bit of drama.

:07:06.:07:11.

Prolonging it, the hand clapping, getting into it, like hawk yay in

:07:12.:07:16.

tennis. -- Hawk-Eye in tennis. Hopefully the IOC are watching.

:07:17.:07:20.

Myself and James would have liked to have won 3-0, but having a five

:07:21.:07:24.

setter that went both ways was a great advert for the sport.

:07:25.:07:27.

Hopefully people on TV who watched it enjoyed it as well. I think they

:07:28.:07:33.

argue that it doesn't have the representation right around the

:07:34.:07:36.

world. Is it expanding, though? Can that change? I think for sure, it's

:07:37.:07:41.

a worldwide sport now. Our tour is going from strength to strength on

:07:42.:07:47.

both the men's PSA and WSA tours. We have a really strong worldwide tour,

:07:48.:07:50.

we go from Aldama corners of the globe. We -- from all corners of the

:07:51.:07:54.

globe. We get big crowds wherever we go now. We wouldn't turn down the

:07:55.:07:58.

strength we have on tour, but to add an Olympic medal to any of our

:07:59.:08:02.

careers would be absolutely amazing. So we hope that eventually that's

:08:03.:08:06.

something that the sport can be geared towards and it gives the

:08:07.:08:11.

juniors for the future. You Aldama have doubles come -- you all have

:08:12.:08:16.

doubles coming up? Yes. Yeah. There can't be that much room on a court

:08:17.:08:23.

for four of you? They widen it a bit and make the courts bigger. There's

:08:24.:08:28.

traffic problems sometimes with two. Four can be interesting. The video

:08:29.:08:32.

review is handy. Your coach said you had to play caveman squash, describe

:08:33.:08:36.

that. I think you beat your chest and wave a stick and pretty much

:08:37.:08:41.

what I did today. You did it well. Congratulations to Aldama of you. --

:08:42.:08:46.

to all of you. Back to Gabby. Thank you very much, Gary. That was

:08:47.:08:51.

interesting hearing the whole progress of squash and where it can

:08:52.:08:53.

go. I think everybody here has enjoyed it so much, they would love

:08:54.:08:57.

to see it grace the Olympic stage. To fill you in, earlier on I made a

:08:58.:09:03.

poor joke about Sultana who won the women's hammer earlier on and then I

:09:04.:09:07.

said something about raisins and about currants. We have had a five

:09:08.:09:13.

minute in-depth chat. Michael didn't know what a sultana was. We love

:09:14.:09:18.

bridging the cultural divide if nothing It's been else. An

:09:38.:09:45.

Christine Christine Ohuruogu racing in the individual evenge. Her great

:09:46.:09:46.

rival was involved. First of three semifinals in the

:09:47.:09:56.

women's 400m. Kelly Massey is out there. Mupopo is

:09:57.:10:37.

there. The Sri Lankan was impressive as well. Already looking strong out

:10:38.:10:46.

there is Omotosho, in lane six. Alongside that of Kelly Massey at

:10:47.:10:51.

the moment. She will have to dig deep to make her

:10:52.:10:52.

the moment. She will have to dig two. Go through

:10:53.:10:57.

the moment. She will have to dig the two fastest losers.

:10:58.:11:01.

the moment. She will have to dig comes home into the lead, impressive

:11:02.:11:07.

lead as well. Does Mupopo have something left? Massey trying to

:11:08.:11:12.

make it through. She's going to get. There coming strong, will she get

:11:13.:11:17.

there, won by McPherson. Massey makes it to the final, just.

:11:18.:11:23.

Stephanie Ann McPherson a long way clear of the rest. Stephanie Massey

:11:24.:11:27.

will be in the final tomorrow night. Top two go through. Christine Day

:11:28.:12:08.

has been in fine form. Miller is the former junior champion. Heavily

:12:09.:12:12.

strapped Seany miller. Cox really has to try to attack and

:12:13.:12:25.

find the best run of her season to go through. Also going well Abugan

:12:26.:12:31.

of Nigeria. Through the first 200m in the green, Milleing up on in lane

:12:32.:12:36.

three in. Front, Christine Day who is having an excellent season. The

:12:37.:12:42.

Jamaican champion and running into top form at the right time. Aldama

:12:43.:12:49.

arms and legs here. Miller coming through serenely as she does. Day

:12:50.:12:54.

will win. Miller hangs on for second place. And the rest will have to

:12:55.:12:59.

wait and see if the fastest loser spot is available.

:13:00.:13:05.

Cox in about fifth place there. Very good win for Day.

:13:06.:13:37.

Cox has missed out, Massey is through. What can Adeoye do?

:13:38.:13:49.

Just outside Margaret Adeoye in lane four for George. Montsho in lane

:13:50.:13:57.

five and Williams-Mills in six may be the athletes to catch here. Two

:13:58.:14:00.

go through only automatically, plus the two fastest losers of the three

:14:01.:14:07.

semifinals. Williams-Mills setting the pace with Montsho just inside.

:14:08.:14:12.

They're separating themselves from the rest. George trying to stay with

:14:13.:14:17.

them. Adeoye trying to keep pace with George. It's Williams-Mills and

:14:18.:14:21.

Montsho who come into the home straight near enough neck and neck.

:14:22.:14:25.

These two are a class apart in this race at the at he -- at the moment.

:14:26.:14:32.

It's a race against the clock and for these two, against each other.

:14:33.:14:36.

Williams-Mills looking very strong indeed. She comes through to take

:14:37.:14:49.

it. Williams-Mills and Montsho first and second. Adeoye coming through

:14:50.:14:53.

there in the end, but not sure the times will be quick enough from this

:14:54.:14:57.

heat. The first two were a long way clear.

:14:58.:15:00.

A class act in this field was certainly dominant. We can see

:15:01.:15:05.

coming around this final turn, as they hit the 150-mark, Aldama eyes

:15:06.:15:11.

-- all eyes see whether Montsho would come through to take the

:15:12.:15:15.

victory over Williams-Mills. But Williams-Mills says no. I want that.

:15:16.:15:19.

Good lane in the final, I will run quick and take this semifinal. Good

:15:20.:15:26.

competitive race. Margaret sneaks in for the third place. But I don't

:15:27.:15:29.

think it will be quick enough for her to get through. She may have

:15:30.:15:33.

done a season's best, which will be wonderful, if that's been achieved.

:15:34.:15:53.

Kelly Massey made it through and a fantastic run, a gutsy end to her

:15:54.:16:02.

race. She ran brilliantly. It's not easy running from the lane she was

:16:03.:16:06.

in. She did not panic at Aldama, that top bend, when the Nigerian

:16:07.:16:10.

came on her shoulder, I just thought, oh, this is the crucial

:16:11.:16:13.

point of the race, don't alter your form. Don't alter what you're

:16:14.:16:18.

thinking and you saw it paid dividends. Super, new personal best.

:16:19.:16:25.

The shoes of Ohuruogu are big ones to fill in women's 400m running.

:16:26.:16:30.

She's having an off season, a slower season. She's taking it easy. She's

:16:31.:16:34.

not completely out of it. She's going to be here in the relays and

:16:35.:16:37.

you said yesterday, completely understand that and get that. It's

:16:38.:16:40.

important when an athlete is getting to the end of their career to pace

:16:41.:16:44.

themselves to make another cycle. Absolutely. Just getting back to

:16:45.:16:48.

Kelly Massey, she's peaking at the right time, having the best

:16:49.:16:53.

performance, having a season's best, when it counts, ala Christine

:16:54.:16:59.

Ohuruogu. We talked about the other day the influence that Christine

:17:00.:17:03.

would have on this team. She's having an influence on people like

:17:04.:17:06.

Kelly Massey. That performance will have given her a lot of confidence

:17:07.:17:11.

going into the final. Obviously, she likes a protagonist, does Montsho.

:17:12.:17:14.

She's chosen Williams-Mills for this. I think, yeah, I'd have to go

:17:15.:17:21.

with that. Montsho just isn't in the shape that she was in last year. I

:17:22.:17:26.

think that, I mean Williams-Mills looks so strong. She looks very

:17:27.:17:29.

relaxed. She looks a lot more relaxed. At this point, Montsho

:17:30.:17:35.

doesn't look like she has the speed she can display. She's not starting

:17:36.:17:39.

as quickly. Thanks for the moment guys. We are about 20 minutes away

:17:40.:17:43.

from the first of those 100m finals. 9. 35pm the women's final. Back here

:17:44.:17:48.

with the build up to that. Now back to Tollcross..

:17:49.:18:01.

teams. There it was Rose and an occurrence and here it is why do men

:18:02.:18:10.

beat their test -- chest? -- raisins and currents. It is to wake

:18:11.:18:15.

themselves up. Maybe like primates, to show off to their competitors.

:18:16.:18:24.

Cameron Van Der Burgh does the best. It is like a prerace ritual. The

:18:25.:18:33.

women don't do it! And here they come for the 100 metres freestyle

:18:34.:18:40.

final. Thank you, Clare Balding. We join

:18:41.:18:49.

the athletes as they come out. From slowest to fastest. We have

:18:50.:18:59.

Canadians in one, seven and eight. Ads next to come out, what a meet he

:19:00.:19:05.

is having, gold on the 50 metres fly and the freestyle as well, and this

:19:06.:19:13.

is the 100 freestyle. Can she take on the mighty Australians in three,

:19:14.:19:17.

four and five? Fran Halsall in Lane two. Arianna

:19:18.:19:25.

four and five? Fran Halsall in Lane a good start and a good spread. I

:19:26.:19:29.

don't think they will get close to the three Australians. It would be

:19:30.:19:34.

tough. Emma McKeon, the third of the three Australians. She was in the

:19:35.:19:40.

women's relay that broke the world record here. And Bronte Campbell,

:19:41.:19:45.

the slower of the two sisters, but she led off with the Commonwealth

:19:46.:19:54.

Games title 3-1. And the faster is the Commonwealth record holder, the

:19:55.:19:58.

champion, Cate Campbell. The anchor leg of the relay. But she had a very

:19:59.:20:09.

slow take-over. So I wonder if the world record will go. It would be

:20:10.:20:18.

super to see that world record of 52.07 go. I don't know if I can see

:20:19.:20:28.

beyond Cate Campbell. She has no individual gold medal yet. Fran

:20:29.:20:31.

Halsall will go out really quickly in two. Like the Brownlee brothers,

:20:32.:20:35.

the younger one always get silver. The final of the women's 100 metres

:20:36.:20:52.

freestyle and Fran Halsall had an absolutely

:20:53.:20:53.

freestyle and Fran Halsall had an freestyle. A big ask to get the

:20:54.:20:59.

gold. Cate Campbell is already in the lead. The fastest in the world,

:21:00.:21:03.

the World Champion and world record-holder. The record split was

:21:04.:21:10.

25.4 in Asia. Look at this! Hugely impressive. She is on the world

:21:11.:21:18.

record. Sprinters are not even living with this. I wonder if

:21:19.:21:21.

record. Sprinters are not even has the pace to hold onto it?

:21:22.:21:26.

record. Sprinters are not even see this one go. The redline is what

:21:27.:21:30.

we to watch. Her sister is catching her up. I think Cate Campbell is

:21:31.:21:38.

just about going to hold on. Very tired. She

:21:39.:21:42.

just about going to hold on. Very a little bit too quick to break the

:21:43.:21:48.

world record but another Australian 123. Emma McKeon gets the bronze. A

:21:49.:22:01.

new Commonwealth Games record, 52.6. Very good indeed.

:22:02.:22:07.

new Commonwealth Games record, 52.6. 53.99, coming in fourth. So fast

:22:08.:22:13.

down the first 50. She did test it. A little bit too quick. I would love

:22:14.:22:18.

to see the world record. I believe she is capable of it, by going just

:22:19.:22:24.

half a second under. I don't think it was great pacing. I like to see a

:22:25.:22:31.

world record but her sister nearly caught her. That would be

:22:32.:22:35.

interesting for the family tonight! They talk about easy speed down the

:22:36.:22:39.

first 50 and that was not easy speed, I don't think. Maybe three

:22:40.:22:46.

tenths less would have been right. That was hard speed. Cate Campbell

:22:47.:22:52.

looked at her sister and Bronte Campbell nearly caught her at the

:22:53.:23:01.

end. Very tight indeed. I didn't realise how close it was. Another

:23:02.:23:08.

meter and it would have gone the other way. Lucky for Cate Campbell

:23:09.:23:15.

it was a 100 metre race and there is no 101 metre race yet! What a

:23:16.:23:22.

commitment. I am pleased she went for it. She now knows she can't do

:23:23.:23:30.

that. She is the taller of the two. Look at that, fastest in the world.

:23:31.:23:36.

Two sisters coming out of the Commonwealth Games with gold and

:23:37.:23:44.

silver. Imagine going 52.8 for the 100 metres freestyle and being the

:23:45.:23:48.

second fastest in your family! So Cate Campbell gets gold, Bront?

:23:49.:23:57.

silver, and anarchy on -- Emma McKeon bronze. I wonder how it

:23:58.:24:05.

affected Fran Halsall. She was a couple of lanes away. She was

:24:06.:24:08.

probably trying for easy speed herself but it was a long way down.

:24:09.:24:15.

The men's 100 metre butterfly with an English swimmer. Chad Le Clos was

:24:16.:24:20.

the fastest qualifier. I don't think he was mucking about but he was

:24:21.:24:25.

doing just fast enough. In name five, the second fastest qualifier.

:24:26.:24:33.

What a moment for Adam Barrett. Jayden Hadler, the slowest of the

:24:34.:24:42.

seeds coming into the fly. This should be an interesting quiz

:24:43.:24:49.

question for everyone. Who is the record holder? Jason Dunford. I did

:24:50.:24:58.

not know about the Edward! James Guy, bronze medal, and that was a

:24:59.:25:05.

fantastic swim. Pity sneaked a medal? That would be something.

:25:06.:25:14.

Tommaso D'Orsogna of Australia. Quite laid-back. I think Chad Le

:25:15.:25:23.

Clos might get gold but I don't know about silver and bronze. I think we

:25:24.:25:27.

are hoping for an English man on the podium. The only home nations in

:25:28.:25:33.

this final are English and there are three. Joseph Schooling. James Guy

:25:34.:25:44.

is in Lane seven. And Adam Barrett was the fastest qualifier in his

:25:45.:25:52.

international debut. And the Olympic champion on the 200 metre butterfly,

:25:53.:25:56.

Chad Le Clos. He wants to go 50, which is unbelievably quick. Can he

:25:57.:26:03.

go below 51? The other massive question, Lane four, in the final of

:26:04.:26:08.

your first international, how will it affect Adam Barrett? He should be

:26:09.:26:16.

lifted by this. It is his 22nd birthday in a couple of days. This

:26:17.:26:21.

would be a great present. Chad Le Clos wants to skip the 51s. He

:26:22.:26:29.

dropped below into 50 points, getting close to the Commonwealth

:26:30.:26:38.

record. Adam Barrett has a fantastic opportunity. About to seize the

:26:39.:26:44.

moment. Lifetime best to qualify fastest, Adam Barrett in the centre

:26:45.:26:46.

for England in Lane four. The final of the men's 100 metres

:26:47.:27:00.

butterfly. Very good start for Chad Le Clos but also decent for Adam

:27:01.:27:05.

Barrett and that is what we want down this street. He came back very

:27:06.:27:09.

well in the semifinals. Yes, we know that he has a very good finish.

:27:10.:27:15.

Jason Dunford does not want to let go of his record. 24.06, Jason

:27:16.:27:21.

Dunford is leading. Well, well, well. Adam Barrett not quite living

:27:22.:27:29.

with it. Coming back now. All in a line. It looks like six, seven and

:27:30.:27:35.

eight rout of it. Back is Adam Barrett. -- are out of it. My

:27:36.:27:48.

goodness me! A horrible last stroke. Chad Le Clos gets gold and the

:27:49.:27:54.

second goes to Joseph Schooling of Singapore and wonderful news for

:27:55.:27:59.

England. Adam Barrett gets bronze. He will be utterly delighted with

:28:00.:28:04.

that and he should be. Brilliant swim. Managing the pressure,

:28:05.:28:09.

managing Chad Le Clos. Chad Le Clos had a real look around at the end

:28:10.:28:14.

and it panicked him slightly. It was quicker than normal. Normally it is

:28:15.:28:19.

a long look. He is pointing up to his father. There he is on the right

:28:20.:28:34.

hand side. Unbelievable. It was an unbelievably bad finish. Yes,

:28:35.:28:39.

shocking. Adam Barrett did well to hang on. Chad Le Clos is nearest the

:28:40.:28:55.

camera. He declared he wanted to go under 51 and he probably would have

:28:56.:29:00.

but for the worst finish I have seen in a major championship for a long

:29:01.:29:04.

time to win a gold medal. Watch this, on his nose. Splat! Oh, dear!

:29:05.:29:19.

He could have spotted that better. Schooling doing well. He trains in

:29:20.:29:23.

Florida. A good talent for the future, just 19. Bronze on the 50,

:29:24.:29:31.

gold on the 200, and clearly the World Champion with gold on the 100.

:29:32.:29:38.

Chad Le Clos gets a new record. Joseph Schooling, Singapore's first

:29:39.:29:43.

ever medal in the swimming. And a great bronze medal for England. That

:29:44.:30:00.

is Bert, Chad's dad, in the fantastic

:30:01.:30:00.

is Bert, Chad's dad, in the He is always very exuberant watching

:30:01.:30:08.

his son swim and he always does him proud. Another gold medal for Chad

:30:09.:30:14.

Le Clos as well. That is it from the Tollcross and another enthralling

:30:15.:30:18.

night of swimming. From here on in it is athletics and the big two

:30:19.:30:22.

races at the track, the 100 meter finals.

:30:23.:30:41.

How do you become a world-class sprinter? The champion becomes a

:30:42.:30:49.

legend! It does depend on your raw material. How you are assembled. But

:30:50.:31:01.

all the fine tuning in the world will not help if you don't have

:31:02.:31:07.

inner steel, if you don't have willpower and the drive to succeed.

:31:08.:31:14.

You still have to take care of business, build on your strengths,

:31:15.:31:24.

your focus and your might. If you do that, when you arrive at the blocks,

:31:25.:31:29.

you might just make the most of being built to sprint.

:31:30.:31:38.

voice that is Michael Johnson. Wonderful scenes at Hampden Park in

:31:39.:31:42.

a stadium full and full of anticipation for two of the

:31:43.:31:45.

highlights of the Games, the men's and women's sprints. GABBY LOGAN:

:31:46.:31:49.

Thank you very much, Gary. Indeed you can hear right now, maybe as an

:31:50.:31:54.

omen for the sprints, the Jamaican anthem. They have a star of shot

:31:55.:32:00.

putt it would seem as well. Their powers know no bounds. They are

:32:01.:32:05.

dominating the field. Let's talk about these sprint finals. We saw a

:32:06.:32:13.

shot of the great Usain Bolt there. An appearance on Saturday, letting

:32:14.:32:17.

us know he is in town. It's all about a different crock of

:32:18.:32:21.

Jamaicans. Veronica Campbell-Brown is someone who has had almost ten

:32:22.:32:25.

months of the last cycle out because of her drugs ban. She came back in

:32:26.:32:32.

February and she is going to put huge pressure on Okagbare in this

:32:33.:32:36.

final. Yeah, she will I think Okagbare sent a huge message in the

:32:37.:32:40.

semifinal. I was impressed with the way this she ran that race. It was

:32:41.:32:46.

just unbelievable, the relaxation, and just the ease that she won that

:32:47.:32:50.

race. She is a very powerful athlete. We know that. She has great

:32:51.:32:54.

speed, coached by John Smith over in the US. I think that she feels that

:32:55.:33:02.

she's heard too much about Veronica Campbell-Brown and her comeback and

:33:03.:33:06.

trying to get vindicated for the suspension last year. She's saying,

:33:07.:33:09.

you know what, it's not just about Campbell-Brown. This is a race for

:33:10.:33:13.

me. I'm going to take it. She's laid down the gauntlet. I don't see,

:33:14.:33:17.

after yesterday, I thought this will be a great match-up. I don't think

:33:18.:33:21.

that any more. I think the race is Okagbare's. She's been imperious

:33:22.:33:26.

over 200m. She can jump. She's a phenomenal athlete. She is. She's a

:33:27.:33:30.

big girl, like Michael says, she's strong. But she's always been the

:33:31.:33:34.

bridesmaid. She is looking for that victory and that title. I'm with

:33:35.:33:38.

Michael. I have not seen sprinting like that for a long time. Yes, talk

:33:39.:33:45.

about what she brings to the table. She has a grace about her, but add

:33:46.:33:52.

the power dimension and it's a phenomenal combination. What we are

:33:53.:33:56.

yet to see is whether she's got the head to take this title. Veronica

:33:57.:34:00.

Campbell-Brown has been there and done it, but it's whether she can

:34:01.:34:04.

really deliver tonight. Has she got the head to race? She has the

:34:05.:34:07.

flowing locks, that's for sure. You know where she is. She catches the

:34:08.:34:12.

eye. She has a languid style. She never looks like she's putting in

:34:13.:34:16.

her maximum. Of course, she is, but she looks very graceful and

:34:17.:34:20.

effortless, almost. She's She's coached by John Smith, he coached

:34:21.:34:30.

Ato Bolden. His athletes have great technique. She's very efficient. She

:34:31.:34:33.

takes the power that she has, very tall athlete, look at her there as

:34:34.:34:39.

compared to the Jamaican athlete Veronica Campbell-Brown next to her,

:34:40.:34:42.

she's tall and has the power and speed. It's a great combination,

:34:43.:34:47.

like a Usain Bolt. But these two athletes, both, come into this,

:34:48.:34:51.

they're very similar in terms of demeanor and approach to the event,

:34:52.:34:55.

very serious and very focussed. What we saw from Okagbare after she ran

:34:56.:34:58.

that incredible time we saw from Okagbare after she ran

:34:59.:35:01.

semifinal was kind of - yeah, I expected to do that. This is nothing

:35:02.:35:05.

special from me. I do this all day A season long. 's best is what she ran

:35:06.:35:09.

in the semi. You've got to put it together when it counts. I think at

:35:10.:35:14.

this point, Veronica Campbell-Brown, who's been running very good this

:35:15.:35:19.

year, could run a season's best and not win this There they race. Are,

:35:20.:35:23.

next to each other in lanes four and five. It's a wonderful contest, a

:35:24.:35:27.

wonderful match up. In lane eight, we should give a mention, we have

:35:28.:35:32.

two home interests with Williams in two. Asha Philip has to run her own

:35:33.:35:39.

race out there. She has no choice. It's a great lane draw for her. She

:35:40.:35:43.

can stay out of action there from the middle lanes. She's got to stay

:35:44.:35:47.

focussed. She's been starting brilliantly and she needs that, as

:35:48.:35:52.

does Bianca Williams. I hope the best for these two. We've talked it

:35:53.:35:59.

up as a head to head, call it for us, Michael? Okagbare. Denise?

:36:00.:36:06.

Okagbare, yeah, amazing. It's clear Andrew, what the studio

:36:07.:36:10.

thinks. You're the commentator, take it a wa. First thing to tell you,

:36:11.:36:17.

it's cooler than for the semifinal. What can Philip do in this one? We

:36:18.:36:26.

saw along with Sumnu there's a strong Nigerian challenge. Kerron

:36:27.:36:40.

Stewart in lane three. Bianca Williams inside her and this is

:36:41.:36:46.

Veronica Campbell-Brown. Second quickest in the semifinals, a big

:36:47.:36:52.

stage performer. Okagbare ran 10. 92. At the London Olympics, and then

:36:53.:36:58.

made a mess in the final. 10. 93 here in the semifinal, can she

:36:59.:37:00.

convert it to the final? Calvert, Gold Medal-winning relay

:37:01.:37:12.

member in the World Championships in Moscow last year. Asumnu the other

:37:13.:37:21.

Nigerian to contest this final. Philip looked better in her

:37:22.:37:30.

semifinal. Always gets away well. Then she will hope that some of this

:37:31.:37:33.

crowd will carry her over the last 50 metres.

:37:34.:38:02.

Again, a few lone cries but Hampden Park falls silent.

:38:03.:38:14.

This is the women's 100m final. Okagbare, the favourite.

:38:15.:38:26.

Away first time, it Campbell-Brown quickest out of the blocks. It's a

:38:27.:38:31.

good start by Blessing. Where is her pick up and drive? Here it comes

:38:32.:38:36.

from the tall Nigerian! Okagbare storming to the line, to the Gold

:38:37.:38:40.

Medal. Campbell-Brown second, Stewart gets third. Okagbare in 10.

:38:41.:38:46.

85, the slightest breeze behind, but what a time from Blessing Okagbare.

:38:47.:38:50.

She is the Commonwealth Games champion. What a run. What a run. A

:38:51.:38:56.

strong performance there. She's showing good form all the way

:38:57.:39:00.

through the rounds. But what we were going to do was wonder - could she

:39:01.:39:04.

nail the performance when it matters? Well, that question was

:39:05.:39:10.

answered. A new Games record. A strong performance all the way

:39:11.:39:13.

through. I think that sets her up not only for this title, she's just

:39:14.:39:18.

won, but later on, the World Championships next year. This will

:39:19.:39:22.

give her confidence and belief that she can win major championships when

:39:23.:39:26.

she's running well. A big win on a big stage by a big margin, taking in

:39:27.:39:33.

and blowing away the record of Debbie Ferguson set in Manchester.

:39:34.:39:37.

Nothing that Veronica Campbell-Brown could do to get there. Yes, we're

:39:38.:39:43.

missing the woman who had swept all before her this season because of

:39:44.:39:45.

her injury, just before the semifinal. But I'm not sure if she

:39:46.:39:49.

would have got with semifinal. But I'm not sure if she

:39:50.:39:56.

What was interesting as well, that Asha Philips from lane eight runs a

:39:57.:40:01.

personal best, 11. 18. We cannot complain about that. Really good

:40:02.:40:05.

performance, all the way through. She struggled with the qualifying.

:40:06.:40:09.

She was dubious in her qualification round. Who cares, a new personal

:40:10.:40:16.

best. And fourth place. A very good performance indeed. Well, the

:40:17.:40:28.

Campbell-Brown, for all the gold at the Olympics, it's silver as it was

:40:29.:40:33.

in Manchester, 12 years ago. But the moment, inside Hampden, belongs to

:40:34.:40:40.

Blessing Okagbare because that was an emphatic victory. Let's look,

:40:41.:40:44.

from the blocks, we were wondering what would happen in the drive

:40:45.:40:48.

phase, that time when they change from the upright running. Veronica

:40:49.:40:52.

Campbell-Brown was electric out of the blocks. But Okagbare kept her

:40:53.:40:58.

form. She kept her head. That beautiful technique that's been

:40:59.:41:03.

honed by John Smith hauled her clear from the rest of the field. An

:41:04.:41:09.

emphatic time and emphatic victory, 10. 85. This is near perfection when

:41:10.:41:14.

you talk about sprinting. If you think in modern times, who has John

:41:15.:41:21.

Smith coached? Well, Jetta, the second fastest woman of all time.

:41:22.:41:25.

She ran very similar to Blessing. We talked about her pedigree as a 200m

:41:26.:41:30.

runner. She used to take a while to get going in her long jump as well,

:41:31.:41:34.

now she gets into her running quite quickly, even in the 100m. She's a

:41:35.:41:40.

tremendously talented sprinter and she is now a Commonwealth champion

:41:41.:41:43.

and by some distance. Talking as well about a good run for Asha

:41:44.:41:49.

Philip on the near side. It was brilliant to see Asha come here and

:41:50.:41:53.

return to good form. We wondered come intoing these championships

:41:54.:41:56.

because she slightly went off the boil. She kept confident and

:41:57.:41:59.

believed in herself. If you watch her head on how focussed

:42:00.:42:03.

believed in herself. If you watch drives out the blocks, know that's

:42:04.:42:03.

she's in a real class drives out the blocks, know that's

:42:04.:42:09.

really wants to do herself justice. She drives well. She gets herself

:42:10.:42:14.

into good transition. Eyes focussed and working hard towards the line.

:42:15.:42:18.

She was rewarded with a brand new personal best and as far as I'm

:42:19.:42:21.

She was rewarded with a brand new concerned, an excellent fourth place

:42:22.:42:26.

in a high-quality field. Brilliant, brilliant Let's hear indeed. From

:42:27.:42:30.

her now. Well done on the personal best.

:42:31.:42:37.

Bianca is here as well, reaching the final, first for you on a senior

:42:38.:42:41.

stage. First, fourth place, the cruellest place

:42:42.:42:44.

stage. First, fourth place, the definitely is. Fourth is always the

:42:45.:42:46.

first loser. The fact that I can come out here and compete with these

:42:47.:42:50.

girls, I know there's a lot more to come. I'm so proud of myself. I came

:42:51.:42:54.

here and everyone says it's hard to get a PB in the

:42:55.:42:57.

here and everyone says it's hard to will take that on the chin and say

:42:58.:43:01.

that was a good race. Unfortunately about coming fourth, because I

:43:02.:43:06.

wanted a medal. It's my first ever Commonwealth Games. My cousin is

:43:07.:43:11.

here playing netball, my team-mates. I'm How did happy. You enjoy the

:43:12.:43:12.

experience? Yeah, it's my first I'm How did happy. You enjoy the

:43:13.:43:17.

senior debut and I came sixth. I can't complain at all. I'm just

:43:18.:43:23.

having fun. I was nil January, so I never thought I'd be here. To make

:43:24.:43:26.

the final healthy and fit, so I can't complain. I'm happy. And the

:43:27.:43:31.

state that British sprinting is pretty good all in all, English

:43:32.:43:34.

sprinting on this occasion, you're going to make a formidable 4 X 1

:43:35.:43:40.

team. I think we are. We have a lot of hard work that we put into it.

:43:41.:43:43.

team. I think we are. We have a lot hope that us four girls will do

:43:44.:43:46.

really well. I can see that happening that we're going to get a

:43:47.:43:50.

medal definitely. Well done on the personal best and well done on the

:43:51.:43:57.

final. I bring in our winning Blessing. The Nigerian flag around

:43:58.:44:01.

the neck, getting well deserved water. Congratulations, what a

:44:02.:44:03.

performance, what a timement Thank you. I'm so excited right now. A new

:44:04.:44:14.

season's best, a win. I'm just happy, I was about to put up a In

:44:15.:44:18.

London show. You ran a fast time in the semis but it didn't come

:44:19.:44:21.

together in the final. Today you did exactly the same thing, in the semi,

:44:22.:44:24.

and then you delivered in the final. What was the difference for you

:44:25.:44:28.

today? The difference was more of like execution and staying patient.

:44:29.:44:32.

The coach was like, I don't want you to rush anything. Stay patient as

:44:33.:44:38.

you can. The last part of the race you'll be just fine. After 70

:44:39.:44:45.

metres, it was easier. You have the 200 and long jump to come, it could

:44:46.:44:50.

be a magical Games for you. I'm looking forward to that. All the

:44:51.:44:52.

very best, congratulations again. Thank you! GABBY LOGAN: You can see

:44:53.:45:00.

just what it means to Blessing Okagbare to banish the ghost of

:45:01.:45:03.

London. Absolutely. She put it all together here. This is what she's

:45:04.:45:08.

talking about being patient here. Veronica Campbell-Brown given her a

:45:09.:45:12.

challenge but knowing that she has superior speed and endurps and that

:45:13.:45:15.

she can pull away, as we see here. She will have gotten so much

:45:16.:45:19.

confidence, gained so much confidence from that semifinal and

:45:20.:45:22.

knowing she has that ability. Sprinters look at other sprinters

:45:23.:45:26.

and they hear from their coaches. I'm sure she was told that right now

:45:27.:45:29.

Campbell-Brown, at her best, she's going to be about 10. 9 and you can

:45:30.:45:33.

run faster than that, don't worry if she's with you at 40 metres. That's

:45:34.:45:37.

what she did. This is just great execution here. Just very, very

:45:38.:45:41.

relaxed. Keeping patient and running her own race. And so, sometimes when

:45:42.:45:47.

you are in a race that's more evenly matched you compete more. This is

:45:48.:45:50.

all about executing her race and trufrting that she's in the --

:45:51.:45:53.

trusting that she's in the shape to win it. It's interesting that at

:45:54.:45:57.

this stage, in an athlete's career, when she has performed on the

:45:58.:46:02.

biggest stages, she's won medals in other events, that she's still

:46:03.:46:05.

learning and still taking forward the knowledge that she's getting

:46:06.:46:08.

from John Smith about how to execute those finals? Yeah and athletes have

:46:09.:46:15.

implicit trust in John. We're look Wow. Ing at Libby Clegg and Mikel

:46:16.:46:22.

Huggins her guide runner. She won gold for Scotland earlier this

:46:23.:46:28.

evening. Scotland's 33 rd medal of the Games, equalling the record from

:46:29.:46:32.

Edinburgh in 1986. What a reception here. The Saltires are flying Arnhem

:46:33.:46:37.

den. We get ready to hear Flower of

:46:38.:46:44.

Scotland and of course, I'm sure, there will be a rousing reception

:46:45.:46:47.

for that here, the first time they've heard it in this stadium

:46:48.:46:48.

since the Games began. The guide enjoying that.

:46:49.:48:46.

He is not Scottish by birth that he is happy to wear the tracksuit and

:48:47.:48:52.

the kit and to be cheered by the crowd along with Libby Clegg.

:48:53.:48:54.

Haven't they taken to athletics here?

:48:55.:48:58.

crowd along with Libby Clegg. Haven't they taken The stadium has

:48:59.:49:01.

been transformed from the athletic home of football and football will

:49:02.:49:04.

have a hard time putting himself back in here because it is making a

:49:05.:49:09.

beautiful called in for athletics. Absolutely. This ground is great.

:49:10.:49:20.

The victory laps are very close to the crowd and it is great for

:49:21.:49:24.

athletics here. They are not going anywhere here because they know the

:49:25.:49:27.

quickest men in the Commonwealth are getting ready to claim the medals.

:49:28.:49:32.

The men's 100 metres is coming up shortly but let's look at the great

:49:33.:49:35.

names who have won Commonwealth gold over the years.

:49:36.:49:39.

# Run, rabbit, run, rabbit! Linford Christie comes home in

:49:40.:50:00.

front! Asafa Powell forces his way to the front!

:50:01.:50:17.

Linford Christie wins it. He gets his hands up. Commonwealth gold for

:50:18.:50:40.

the third time! Ato Boldon holds the Commonwealth Games record of 10.88

:50:41.:50:44.

and tweeted earlier that Adam Gemili will not be beaten by three

:50:45.:50:49.

Jamaicans. Is he hinting that he will get a medal? I think he will. I

:50:50.:50:54.

agree with him on that one. Beating one Jamaican is tough enough but

:50:55.:50:59.

beating two is very tough and three? I think there may come a day when

:51:00.:51:04.

Adam can beat three Jamaicans, maybe not Usain Bolt, that it is still a

:51:05.:51:10.

little early in his career for him to go out there and put that race

:51:11.:51:14.

together to beat these guys. I think Bailey Cole just looks classic right

:51:15.:51:22.

now. Adam Gemili is in a great position again, next to the guy he

:51:23.:51:27.

needs to beat, who will likely win the race. This one is still a bit

:51:28.:51:33.

open because I still believe that Nickel Ashmeade has some in the tank

:51:34.:51:37.

and will save it for the end. I don't think he means to do that but

:51:38.:51:41.

finds himself in that position. He has given himself a difficult lane

:51:42.:51:49.

draw. Yes, he has, but as we saw with Asha Phillip in the last race,

:51:50.:51:53.

it can be done. The focus on your lane and you just get into the

:51:54.:52:01.

action and focus. Thinking about Warren Fraser on Adam Gemili's left,

:52:02.:52:07.

he is the one with a really quick start that took Nickel Ashmeade out

:52:08.:52:12.

of his race. That is what Adam Gemili will have to be careful.

:52:13.:52:16.

Because the start is not the best part of his race? Right. If he

:52:17.:52:21.

panics and get out quick, that will be a problem for him. He has to keep

:52:22.:52:25.

his head among the great athletes around him. This could be a seminal

:52:26.:52:30.

moment in his career. It has been building. He wants to be on this

:52:31.:52:34.

stage, where he has this pressure on him. He is still fairly young and

:52:35.:52:39.

relatively inexperienced. He burst onto the scene two years ago in

:52:40.:52:45.

London by his own admission is still learning his craft. Let's see if he

:52:46.:52:49.

can turn it into a precious metal. Here is your commentator.

:52:50.:52:56.

His teacher entered him for the Kent athletics school championships and

:52:57.:53:00.

it all started there. Here he is in the Commonwealth Games final with a

:53:01.:53:05.

chance. How big is that chance? In lane one, Mark Jelks of Australia,

:53:06.:53:14.

and he will start quickly. Ramon Gittens of Barbados. Warren Fraser,

:53:15.:53:19.

23, running very well and impressive in the semifinal. Next to him,

:53:20.:53:25.

23, running very well and impressive will be a huge welcome as he is

:53:26.:53:27.

introduced to the Hampden Park crowd, Adam Gemili! Yet to break ten

:53:28.:53:37.

seconds. The man next to him from Jamaica,

:53:38.:53:41.

seconds. The man next to him from done it seven times, including in

:53:42.:53:46.

the semifinal when he ran exactly ten seconds. Kemar Bailey-Cole.

:53:47.:53:53.

Fourth in the World Championships last year. Jason Livermore. Anyone

:53:54.:53:56.

who pulls out the best of Jamaica last year. Jason Livermore. Anyone

:53:57.:54:01.

a sprint final has got to be given due respect. This man may be better

:54:02.:54:05.

at 200 metres and we will see him in that later. And Antoine Adams from

:54:06.:54:10.

St that later. And Antoine Adams from

:54:11.:54:11.

record for that later. And Antoine Adams from

:54:12.:54:16.

than Kim Collins, the former champion of course. What has

:54:17.:54:21.

than Kim Collins, the former Ashmeade got left here? You came as

:54:22.:54:24.

one of the favourites Ashmeade got left here? You came as

:54:25.:54:26.

Thompson did not make it into the final. 200 metres behind Justin

:54:27.:54:37.

Gatlin and at his last big race in Monaco.

:54:38.:54:46.

Glen Mills said that Kemar Bailey-Cole would be the next big

:54:47.:54:51.

thing. Well, he is pretty tall but can he step into the shoes of Usain

:54:52.:54:57.

Bolt? And can Adam Gemili make a huge step that would be required to

:54:58.:55:00.

win this Commonwealth title? Gold goes to Jamaica 14!

:55:01.:55:43.

just about made it to the finish line. Peoples up with a little bit

:55:44.:55:48.

of a limp but that will not matter. -- he pulls up. He has the

:55:49.:55:55.

Commonwealth title in his hands. And Adam Gemili has got the silver medal

:55:56.:55:59.

and look how much that means to him! A coming of age for the 20-year-old.

:56:00.:56:05.

A superb performance from him. A great start. He gave himself every

:56:06.:56:12.

opportunity to win it. He was beaten by a world-class man on the day. But

:56:13.:56:15.

what a performance from Adam Gemili! All smiles. His choice just to do

:56:16.:56:22.

than 100 metres is surely vindicated. Silver medal. Who knows

:56:23.:56:27.

where that will leave him in the future?

:56:28.:57:05.

should have done, exploding out of the blocks, putting as much pressure

:57:06.:57:09.

as he possibly could on Bailey-Cole to his right. That that is one

:57:10.:57:13.

experienced runner. He has that long, loping stride. He managed to

:57:14.:57:19.

haul himself past Adam and the rest of the field. Not a great start. The

:57:20.:57:24.

first ten or 15 metres, Adam Gemili was about a metre and a half ahead

:57:25.:57:29.

of Bailey-Cole and yet he still ran ten flat. You can see how much

:57:30.:57:38.

potential this young man has got. He takes the title and Jamaica will be

:57:39.:57:43.

very pleased about that. It is a huge landmark for him to come and

:57:44.:57:48.

run well in the qualifiers and then deliver a medal when it matters.

:57:49.:57:52.

That set them up wonderfully for the European Championships and in doing

:57:53.:58:02.

-- him doing the 200 metres there. Superb performance from Adam Gemili.

:58:03.:58:06.

Not as quick as he ran in the semifinal but that is not the

:58:07.:58:10.

point. In the final you are racing for medals and he has got one and a

:58:11.:58:15.

very good one. This silver medal. The Commonwealth title goes once

:58:16.:58:20.

again to Jamaica. Kemar Bailey-Cole this time, ten flat. The fourth time

:58:21.:58:24.

he has run ten seconds flat, including twice at the Commonwealth

:58:25.:58:29.

Games. Silver Adam Gemili and Nickel Ashmeade had to settle for the

:58:30.:58:35.

bronze medal. We will talk to him very quickly.

:58:36.:58:42.

Hopefully you will hear from Adam Gemili here or later on this

:58:43.:58:48.

evening. I am sure he will be absolutely thrilled with that

:58:49.:58:52.

progress. To penetrate that Jamaican trio and get himself onto the

:58:53.:58:56.

rostrum is a big step in his career. It is. It is funny, we just needed a

:58:57.:59:08.

Jamaican and it would be great! And he beat two. That was a great

:59:09.:59:12.

performance. It was all about the start. He knew he had to get a great

:59:13.:59:17.

start and it was great by him. It gives them some things to work on

:59:18.:59:21.

but that will be a phenomenal confidence booster for him. He can

:59:22.:59:25.

win the European Championships and then going into next year he has won

:59:26.:59:31.

medals. It is the 200 in the European Championships and he looked

:59:32.:59:34.

like favourite at the end of last year. Yes, I think he was fantastic.

:59:35.:59:40.

Getting medals is what this game is all about and it brings him to a

:59:41.:59:47.

brilliant place in his career. What a fantastic way to end the first

:59:48.:59:50.

evening of athletics at hand and park.

:59:51.:59:55.

Back to Gary. We will be back on BBC Two very shortly with more you then.
