Hello again. We are approaching the halfway stage and it has been a

:00:23.:00:33.

significant day with the Scotland smashing the previous record of

:00:34.:00:41.

delivering golds, whilst England give Australia a run for their money

:00:42.:00:44.

at the top of the medals table. And a chance for another England gold

:00:45.:00:52.

medal right now, they are playing Malaysia in the final

:00:53.:00:53.

a chance for another England gold medal right now, they are playing of

:00:54.:00:56.

the men's doubles badminton competition, if you wish to see it,

:00:57.:01:03.

it is on BBC Three right now, and very, very close. In netball,

:01:04.:01:08.

Northern Ireland taking on St Lucia. This is one of the final

:01:09.:01:17.

matches in pool B, it is all the go. But we will concentrate on

:01:18.:01:21.

gymnastics because it is the start of the artistic gymnastics today. A

:01:22.:01:29.

measure of how the profile has increased that some gymnastics stars

:01:30.:01:35.

are now par of the celebrity landscape Beth has been on dancing

:01:36.:01:41.

on ice. There is Smith has been on strictly. But for now, for him, it

:01:42.:01:51.

is back to the day job. It was amazing to be picked for the

:01:52.:01:57.

Commonwealth Games. But not an easy job. I had to kick up a fuss and get

:01:58.:02:03.

my name out of there. Coming back into it after a year and a half out

:02:04.:02:09.

definitely helped me. I was seen as somebody not taking it as seriously

:02:10.:02:14.

as other gymnasts. So I therefore had to put my foot down and say,

:02:15.:02:20.

look, I am not messing around. I have done this since I was four

:02:21.:02:26.

yours told. You need to take me seriously. -- four years old.

:02:27.:02:37.

Yes! Great Britain take bronze in the men's teams final. It is a time,

:02:38.:02:56.

16.066. People expected me to win gold. It

:02:57.:03:03.

was hard to explain. I had never had as much pressure and expectation as

:03:04.:03:09.

2012. When my experience was finished I felt physically and

:03:10.:03:17.

emotionally exhausted. Like I had absolutely nothing. It took

:03:18.:03:20.

everything out of me to keep myself used together, to keep myself

:03:21.:03:28.

strong. So when I finished I completely switched off from sport

:03:29.:03:31.

and just needed to recuperate in life. But I never wrote anything

:03:32.:03:39.

off. I never said I had retired. I left the door open in case I wanted

:03:40.:03:56.

to get back into it. Strictly was amazing. Just what I

:03:57.:04:09.

needed. I saw the boys and everyone around the world competing and still

:04:10.:04:12.

felt I could compete with the best so I got back into training. I came

:04:13.:04:18.

back mainly for the enjoyment of the team vibe, not with a point to

:04:19.:04:28.

prove. What a good performance from the

:04:29.:04:35.

16-year-old. Another Commonwealth medal would be

:04:36.:04:39.

amazing. It would leave me with hard decisions to make for the next

:04:40.:04:48.

couple of years. Is he close to where he was in 2012,

:04:49.:04:56.

Beth? He has proved himself and been

:04:57.:05:00.

selected. He is scoring high 15th, not far of Mac London. But he knew

:05:01.:05:09.

when he went to the World Championships last year, I was sat

:05:10.:05:13.

with him and he has got the fire in his eyes. He wanted to be back in

:05:14.:05:19.

with the boys. The rest of the squad seemed to move

:05:20.:05:24.

on and Whitlock seems to be the man who has taken over the celebrity

:05:25.:05:29.

mantle. It was always good to be difficult

:05:30.:05:33.

for him to come back in because the boys have so much strength and

:05:34.:05:38.

depth. He had to prove himself over numerous competitions.

:05:39.:05:47.

Has Max perhaps superseded the standards set?

:05:48.:05:53.

That is the great thing about British gymnastics, we constantly

:05:54.:05:57.

build on our results. We want bigger and better. Lewis has had to step

:05:58.:06:03.

back up to the mark and he has proved himself. The formal will be

:06:04.:06:09.

really interesting, he and Max going up against each other, and also

:06:10.:06:15.

Daniel Keating is Scotland. -- pommel horse. Let's see how they

:06:16.:06:21.

fare in the Hydro. We are up and running with Liam and

:06:22.:06:49.

Davey for Scotland. -- Leon -- Liam Davie.

:06:50.:06:56.

He just needs to get a little bit higher. Good control on the cross.

:06:57.:07:14.

Nicely done, smoothly up to the handstand.

:07:15.:07:26.

What a shame because that was a good routine. But a lack of confidence at

:07:27.:07:31.

the end. Tomorrow, the high bar. Just a

:07:32.:07:42.

reminder that this competition is split in two. Wilson put in such a

:07:43.:07:52.

mature performance on the floor. He is junior champion on this piece of

:07:53.:07:58.

apparatus. Lovely opener, making absolutely certain. Very confident.

:07:59.:08:13.

Two circles, into the Russian. The hand placement is a very precise,

:08:14.:08:20.

side-by-side, parallel. Very few gymnasts can achieve that. Maybe a

:08:21.:08:30.

double Russian, perhaps should have been an extra one but he has rescued

:08:31.:08:34.

it well. Very mature from Wilson, great performance. What an

:08:35.:08:40.

introduction to senior level for this man. Daniel Keating is has the

:08:41.:08:47.

highest pommel horse score with 14.533. A really controlled gymnast

:08:48.:08:58.

now, Wilson. Keating is just keeping an eye on the pommel horse score

:08:59.:09:06.

board. Frank Baines. Did not have much fun on the pommel horse but

:09:07.:09:11.

will do his best to enjoy the rings routine, as much as it will be

:09:12.:09:18.

hurting. Such a stylish gymnast, Frank Baines. Lovely work. Just

:09:19.:09:37.

fighting at the top of the handstand, but the swing onto

:09:38.:09:43.

straight arms was very good indeed. Feet locked together. Super

:09:44.:09:51.

somersault, double on front, very nice, really original!

:09:52.:10:00.

Scotland are back on track. He did well to produce that after a

:10:01.:10:07.

disappointment on pommel horse. Nigel Wilson, the third highest

:10:08.:10:19.

pommel horse score. Some hold on, next to go on this piece of

:10:20.:10:30.

apparatus. -- Sam Oldham. Certainly made it on the second of the two

:10:31.:10:39.

handstands. Very confident. That is very good. Very good work indeed.

:10:40.:10:47.

But he caught his legs and he has lost the swing. That is a problem

:10:48.:10:57.

for him and the English team. But, his all-around bid, he knows he

:10:58.:11:09.

cannot now afford any more mistakes. He really is a great normal horse

:11:10.:11:17.

worker and will be anxious to prove that. But he has lost the river and

:11:18.:11:25.

again slightly. If anything he attacked that slightly too much. --

:11:26.:11:32.

lost the rhythm. It feels to me like 2014 is his

:11:33.:11:47.

year. He has been in and out with his work. Hopefully that will not

:11:48.:11:53.

affect him here. Then Keating is. So many injuries

:11:54.:12:09.

throughout his career -- Dan Keatings. A good, light frame. He is

:12:10.:12:26.

strong. Lovely control. And really mature, strength wise. Really does

:12:27.:12:40.

not give very much weight to the deductions of the judges, dutifully

:12:41.:12:48.

locked together. Really keeping the difficulty level up. Wonderful to

:12:49.:12:58.

see him do so well. He has been a key gymnast in the British rise to

:12:59.:13:09.

fame on the world stage. Some shaking off their head from Sam

:13:10.:13:24.

Oldham. Now look who it is. Louis Smith is back at the pommel horse

:13:25.:13:36.

party. Smooth and easy. Two handstands, safely done. Will he go

:13:37.:13:47.

for a single Russian? Here comes the Russian... Right now. And a very

:13:48.:13:59.

nice indeed. He is looking good. Triple Russian all the way. Picking

:14:00.:14:16.

up. Her -- he will keep the rhythm, and very nicely done! What a superb

:14:17.:14:26.

comeback from Smith! He is back, and the world will have

:14:27.:14:34.

taken notice! Absolutely, showing his maturity. He has not just, for

:14:35.:14:41.

the party, but to show everyone he is still a great gymnast. Daniel

:14:42.:14:54.

Purvis will be up next. But what a moment that was for Smith and his

:14:55.:15:03.

family. Daniel Purvis, then. This is so important.

:15:04.:15:17.

He's becoming a very powerful gymnast, Daniel Purvis.

:15:18.:15:42.

He got the dismount. What a competition on, here. And it is all

:15:43.:15:55.

Franks to Purvis. It is a thriller. Louise Smith with an enormous 15.7.

:15:56.:16:04.

-- Louis Smith. And there is more in the locker. Certainly from a

:16:05.:16:14.

difficulty perspective. Max Whitlock. The standard just keeps on

:16:15.:16:16.

getting better. He has this style of his own. Almost

:16:17.:16:25.

laid-back and relaxed. He kept the rhythm, a flourish at

:16:26.:17:09.

the end. A big smile at the end. Louis appreciates it. He does. The

:17:10.:17:15.

competition is ardent between the two of them. Max Kier beat the lad

:17:16.:17:20.

who stole the Olympic gold from Louis Smith so what a final we are

:17:21.:17:26.

install for on the pommel horse. And great spirit in the teams. Louis a

:17:27.:17:38.

difficulty school of 6.9. Yuan about difficulty there, Chris. 6.9 from

:17:39.:17:47.

Louis but we also know that Max is in the sevens as well. I was

:17:48.:17:53.

interested to see the difficulty score for Louis today was 6.9.

:17:54.:18:00.

Daniel's will be higher than that. And he didn't need to go all out

:18:01.:18:03.

that he took the risk. He has got guts.

:18:04.:18:15.

We haven't seen that much of the Canadians on the floor, but that was

:18:16.:18:19.

lovely. Lovely control. Super height. Oh, but that was a

:18:20.:18:32.

deep landing and will be a deduction.

:18:33.:18:40.

Lots of strength in the handstand, the wide arm handstand.

:18:41.:18:52.

Double Arabian to finish. Just a little bit of a deep landing in the

:18:53.:19:09.

middle but that was classy work. His aid for the floral final. -- he's

:19:10.:19:22.

bid for the final of the floor work. Max Whitlock is ahead of Louis Smith

:19:23.:19:25.

right zero .033. This is the Canadian champion on

:19:26.:19:44.

this piece of apparatus, and he was in the final of the World

:19:45.:19:46.

Championships. That's unusual, go to strike -- to

:19:47.:20:27.

go straight leg into Japanese handstand.

:20:28.:20:46.

Twisting double to finish. World-class work. 14.933. It is a

:20:47.:21:08.

higher score than Kristian Thomas'. Let's have a look at the standings

:21:09.:21:10.

after two tensions. As a team, England lead Canada,

:21:11.:21:28.

ahead of Scotland, who have now moved up into third from fifth.

:21:29.:21:34.

We talked about the pommel and the rivalry between Louis Smith and Max

:21:35.:21:44.

Whitlock. Obviously Louis went just ahead of Max. He put his game pad,

:21:45.:21:49.

scored 15 points seven, and then Max knew the pressure was on. He wants

:21:50.:21:55.

to prove that he is contending Louis. Overall, how would you assess

:21:56.:22:00.

the quality of what we are seeing? On believable. Every single nation

:22:01.:22:05.

is pushing each other. The Commonwealth isn't necessarily as

:22:06.:22:09.

high a level is what our Olympic Games are, but the standard between

:22:10.:22:15.

Canada, Australia, England and Scotland, they are constantly

:22:16.:22:20.

looking around the arena, someone is scoring 15, so someone wants to

:22:21.:22:26.

score 15.1. Discourse on the pommel horse that we are seeing, they are

:22:27.:22:35.

world-class. Beyond. -- the scores. While we were watching Frank Baines

:22:36.:22:39.

on the rings you were telling us how torrid time he has been having. He

:22:40.:22:44.

was a really successful junior and last year he had a bit of an

:22:45.:22:47.

accident and landed on his head and he handed to be in -- had to be in a

:22:48.:22:55.

back brace that he is wanting to prove he is back to his best form.

:22:56.:23:00.

When you are talking about what we have seen so far, especially on the

:23:01.:23:04.

pommel horse, you have the big guns there, Smith, Whitlock and Baines.

:23:05.:23:15.

Those will be the free on the podium but I do not know what order. And

:23:16.:23:20.

this is the third of the three rotations that we are about as the

:23:21.:23:29.

intraday's action. -- about to see in today's action.

:23:30.:23:35.

COMMENTATOR: Nice double twisting front to open with. A really stylish

:23:36.:23:45.

gymnast. Good control. A straight line in the

:23:46.:23:57.

handstand. The Arabian, the half turn into

:23:58.:24:17.

front somersault, he really works with great precision. Not

:24:18.:24:23.

difficult moves now but the execution score will be high. A

:24:24.:24:32.

good, solid opening for Scotland. Adam Cox, then, to please his floor

:24:33.:24:54.

routine. -- completes his routine. Nile Wilson, what a competition he's

:24:55.:24:59.

having, working on all apparatus, building his experience. What does

:25:00.:25:04.

he have to offer on rings, bearing in mind this is really a piece of

:25:05.:25:10.

apparatus for the older gymnast? You can guarantee this young man can

:25:11.:25:21.

swing. Technically, the strength will come.

:25:22.:25:46.

What a good routine. A young man just crossed the maturity bridge.

:25:47.:26:01.

Adam Cox, 13.5 for Scotland. Daniel Keatings for Scotland. Now 24 years

:26:02.:26:08.

old. Third at the British Championships, and look at the level

:26:09.:26:14.

of the gymnastics that is coming out of the British camp.

:26:15.:26:21.

A very nice twisting double back to start with. Fantastic control on the

:26:22.:26:31.

double Arabian. He suffered a very bad knee injury when he was younger.

:26:32.:26:38.

I think that was a bit lower than intended. We haven't seen him work

:26:39.:26:46.

internationally on the floor so much that he very able. -- but he's very

:26:47.:26:51.

able. Two and a half twists. Absolutely no

:26:52.:27:28.

problem with that landing. Wonderful work. Wilson, 14 point 383. For

:27:29.:27:42.

England, Kristian Thomas. Such a hard piece of apparatus for him,

:27:43.:27:46.

because he's not the lightest gymnast in the squad.

:27:47.:28:07.

Very cleverly constructed, this routine.

:28:08.:28:21.

Very disciplined. A tiny bit over quick, but we are talking a very,

:28:22.:28:32.

very small problem. That was lovely. The big man, that was hugely

:28:33.:28:37.

interesting on the rings. At 25 years old, he has been there, done

:28:38.:28:42.

it and knew exactly what he had to do there and he has done it. Such a

:28:43.:28:47.

fantastic example to the younger gymnasts in the gym. Always focused,

:28:48.:28:57.

always working. Keatings, 14.96. What a score for him and for

:28:58.:29:02.

Scotland. I'm sure we'll see him in the floral final.

:29:03.:29:14.

Oh! The tumbles were great but he just did not quite nailed for

:29:15.:29:20.

landing. -- nailed for landing. A lot of pressure here for the home

:29:21.:29:33.

gymnasts. Another wonderful combination, two

:29:34.:29:51.

and a half twists into full twisting front.

:29:52.:30:07.

gymnast. From the same club as Daniel Purvis. But that will be very

:30:08.:30:21.

costly. He landed out of the floor. Beautiful triple twist though,

:30:22.:30:27.

haven't seen any better than that. You could not tell that he once

:30:28.:30:32.

broke formica vertebrae and spent 12 weeks recovering -- four vertebrae.

:30:33.:30:44.

No sign of nerves from him throughout the whole competition

:30:45.:30:50.

really. A solid 14 for Kristian Thomas. Max Whitlock going

:30:51.:31:02.

incredibly well in the all-around competition. Here he is on rings.

:31:03.:31:13.

The 21-year-old. You will see that swing come into play here. Security,

:31:14.:31:31.

he needs. So far it is good. Nice technique. Into the handstand. It is

:31:32.:31:45.

a tough old skill. And safely through the double front. Lovely

:31:46.:31:59.

locked arms. Double twist, well done. Isn't she relieved to get rid

:32:00.:32:08.

of the rings? He is thinking, I wish this was the all-around final. She

:32:09.:32:17.

has been superb. What an outing. It is worth talking about the style, he

:32:18.:32:25.

has really worked that routine. 14.0664 Frank Baines. And that was

:32:26.:32:34.

after a penalty deduction. He could really do much better. Daniel

:32:35.:32:43.

Purvis. So important for Scotland on rings, and will be equally important

:32:44.:32:51.

here on the floor. A bronze finalist in the World Championships in 2010.

:32:52.:32:59.

Two very difficult elements to start the routine off. But he undercooked

:33:00.:33:08.

that. I think the Scottish guys are feeling a lot of the pressure. Into

:33:09.:33:23.

front with the half. But these mistakes might be very costly in

:33:24.:33:30.

terms of making apparatus finals, which would be a great shame. That

:33:31.:33:39.

is the move we have come to expect from him. The roll-out, smoothly up

:33:40.:33:50.

onto straight legs. Important, this final tumble, into the double

:33:51.:33:55.

Arabian, so hard, but he does it so well with such ease. He knew he had

:33:56.:34:03.

to go all out for difficulty after his little slip, and he did not

:34:04.:34:09.

disappoint in that department. It was a gamble that did not pay off on

:34:10.:34:14.

this occasion but he is a great gymnast, Daniel Purvis. Such is the

:34:15.:34:25.

level of this competition. 14.433 on the rings, Max Whitlock. Still, at

:34:26.:34:34.

21 years of age, he is not even there yet, is he? Canada, on pommel

:34:35.:34:57.

horse. Secondary -- Zachary clay. A good steady start. That last

:34:58.:35:09.

Russian, he is building it very nicely. Catching up the hands very

:35:10.:35:24.

nicely indeed. This will be much welcomed by the Canadians but he has

:35:25.:35:31.

faltered at the last gasp. He really lost it. You need to stay focused.

:35:32.:35:41.

He has come to grief. Interesting to see what happens with the rest of

:35:42.:35:46.

the Canadian team, bearing in mind Wales were incredibly consistent in

:35:47.:35:53.

their competition. That really was a bit of a give up at the end after he

:35:54.:35:59.

performed so well. Sam Oldham on the rings. She has had his moments in

:36:00.:36:08.

this qualification competition, he can put them all behind him in the

:36:09.:36:17.

last piece for today. He has struggled sometimes with consistency

:36:18.:36:19.

but such a stylish, beautiful gymnast. If you'd goes through clean

:36:20.:36:33.

he has so few deductions. Beautifully pointed, straight arms.

:36:34.:36:42.

Sweet hand, just a tiny fight, and a big dismount. Really impressive

:36:43.:36:52.

after a disappointing pommel horse. England aren't just unbeatable, it

:36:53.:37:01.

seems. -- are. What a luxury to have a team of this quality. 14.533 four

:37:02.:37:16.

the attacking Sam Oldham. A great floor worker. Daniel Purvis, what a

:37:17.:37:27.

lovely combination. He gets 13 point nine. The execution scores are very

:37:28.:37:42.

high. Anderson Loran for Canada. Wales have them in their site.

:37:43.:37:53.

He did well to get that back. Into the Russian. Travelling very

:37:54.:38:06.

efficiently. A little bit of separation. And the dismount. He

:38:07.:38:18.

will be grateful to get through. 13.666. That is how things look

:38:19.:38:28.

after three pieces of apparatus. England ahead of Scotland, Canada,

:38:29.:38:36.

then Wales in fourth, Australia and New Zealand fifth and six.

:38:37.:38:46.

6.5 points is the gap. Is that catchable?

:38:47.:38:53.

England would need to make a lot of mistakes. Their dominance will

:38:54.:38:59.

continue. Scotland will need to do something special to close that

:39:00.:39:04.

gap. It is so important to be on your

:39:05.:39:12.

mettle in day one. So much relies on these results.

:39:13.:39:17.

I found qualification was the hardest event. If you go wrong, your

:39:18.:39:24.

games are over. Most of the gymnast want to put their top game out. We

:39:25.:39:29.

saw Daniel Purvis had a small mistake. That will put him out of

:39:30.:39:37.

the floor final. Max Whitlock has been the outstanding individual.

:39:38.:39:46.

45.766, that is some going. If you double that you have reached

:39:47.:39:53.

an all world stage score. He is looking to dominate these

:39:54.:39:55.

championships and has had great preparation. I would not be

:39:56.:40:01.

surprised if you'd goes home with medals around his neck.

:40:02.:40:08.

As one of the top female gymnasts in this country, looking at the men's

:40:09.:40:12.

events, did you ever try any of them? We marvel at them. Did you

:40:13.:40:20.

ever give them a go? I had a go on rings. I was awful.

:40:21.:40:27.

And the pommel horse, you don't realise how difficult it is until

:40:28.:40:32.

you have a go. And the reverse is true for the

:40:33.:40:41.

guys. Which fills them with horror? Definitely the beam. It could go so

:40:42.:40:46.

wrong. For obvious reasons! We will move

:40:47.:40:56.

on! Will the order of the last four games change?

:40:57.:41:03.

I have a feeling it will. England look on top of their game. Australia

:41:04.:41:10.

are in transition. Laura Mitchell was the star in New Delhi, she has

:41:11.:41:14.

had surgery and is not doing the all-around. England are definitely

:41:15.:41:23.

on the top game. And they have a mixture of

:41:24.:41:29.

experience and some very young kids. They have proved there is life after

:41:30.:41:33.

you, with a silver medal at the Europeans.

:41:34.:41:39.

They have. Unfortunately we lost Rebecca with an injury. We are

:41:40.:41:45.

preparing her for 2016, that is more important for her.

:41:46.:41:50.

Tonight, the uneven bars and the vault. Great to share that with you

:41:51.:41:57.

this afternoon. A smashing start. It will only get better.

:41:58.:42:06.

We hope so. At Carnoustie, news that Gemma McIntosh of Scotland has made

:42:07.:42:10.

history. Shooting is a family affair. She is the most decorated

:42:11.:42:17.

Scottish woman in a single games after winning two golds and a bronze

:42:18.:42:22.

in Delhi, today she has become one of only three Scottish women to

:42:23.:42:25.

women four medals at the Commonwealth Games. She joins her

:42:26.:42:31.

mother, Shirley, as one of the others. Appropriately, her mother

:42:32.:42:39.

put the medal round her neck. What a moment for the family. Like mother,

:42:40.:42:45.

like daughter. Well played to the Macintosh clan.

:42:46.:42:52.

You look happier today than when I spoke to you the other day. How do

:42:53.:42:57.

you feel? Really excited. Disappointed I could

:42:58.:43:03.

not defend my title but it is a medal, so I am happy. It was a good

:43:04.:43:09.

performance, in some ways better than the performance I gave in

:43:10.:43:13.

Delhi, which is kind of ironic. It was hard work, preached to get --

:43:14.:43:23.

pleased to get a medal. I put more pressure on myself because was a

:43:24.:43:27.

home games but the crowd were fantastic. I want to thank them for

:43:28.:43:34.

coming out and showing support. You are in illustrious company. Only

:43:35.:43:39.

three have taken four career Commonwealth medals. One is your

:43:40.:43:44.

mother. It is brilliant to be part of that

:43:45.:43:49.

Scottish history. Is the pressure now off going into

:43:50.:43:53.

your final event? Yes and no. I always put pressure on

:43:54.:44:00.

myself, women or nothing. But it feels like a little bit is off. --

:44:01.:44:10.

win or nothing. That is the 32nd Scottish medal of

:44:11.:44:15.

these games, one shy of the previous best. The target is 34. They inch

:44:16.:44:24.

closer. England are moving up the table, giving Australia a run for

:44:25.:44:30.

their money. They have a chance of gold in the table tennis today, the

:44:31.:44:37.

men's team event. England lost the first couple of singles matches then

:44:38.:44:44.

won the doubles. Andrew Begley, can he level it to take it into a

:44:45.:44:46.

decider? match. Andrew Bageley is top at

:44:47.:45:09.

table tennis but perhaps he just lacks a little bit of pace in his

:45:10.:45:14.

game. He tends to play very much at one pace.

:45:15.:45:25.

Bageley was redlining his own backhands but then when Zhan had the

:45:26.:45:38.

opportunity, look how much power he hit the ball with.

:45:39.:46:02.

The Serb deviating everywhere there from Baggaley. -- the server.

:46:03.:46:23.

I'm quite sure more than anything, the Mac three in his first ever

:46:24.:46:43.

Commonwealth Games, his first ever tournament, -- Zhan wants to be the

:46:44.:46:52.

man who wins the gold medal for Singapore.

:46:53.:47:03.

Now, I think maybe he should think about a time-out, England. He will

:47:04.:48:13.

obviously have that at the forefront of his mind. House and pulled the

:48:14.:48:19.

trigger yet, though, on that one. -- hasn't pulled the trigger yet. Good

:48:20.:48:27.

defence, Andrew Baggaley. Scurrying around deep behind the table. But he

:48:28.:48:33.

got it done just deflecting that one off his right hip, almost.

:48:34.:48:48.

Really upping the ante now, Baggaley. A lot of Excel oration in

:48:49.:48:53.

that forehand. -- acceleration. He has to keep his mind in the

:48:54.:49:09.

present. Could serve from Zhan, and a fist

:49:10.:49:26.

pump with it. -- a good serve. He has gone back to the safety, gone

:49:27.:49:47.

back to serving from the middle of the table, reduced the angle, served

:49:48.:49:53.

with the backhand, the smooth side of the rubber.

:49:54.:49:59.

The effect return from Zhan. Two points away from the gold medal, and

:50:00.:50:07.

they have called a time-out, team England.

:50:08.:50:14.

Not for me to criticise, but it worries me that the time-out has

:50:15.:50:19.

been taken too late to really change things. Yes. 2-0 down, but 9-6, for

:50:20.:50:29.

me it is just a little bit too late. Really, he's having to climb Everest

:50:30.:50:33.

without oxygen. Very difficult indeed. Also, remember, it gives...

:50:34.:50:43.

The advice from his coach, go out, do your best, you have got to take a

:50:44.:50:49.

risk. Maybe one in ten, one in 15 it might come off. Don't hold back.

:50:50.:50:55.

Give it your all. And remember your opponent might just be a little bit

:50:56.:50:57.

nervous. Singapore now one point away from

:50:58.:51:09.

the gold medal. The Singaporean coach call the

:51:10.:51:41.

time-out. He will take no risks whatsoever. In the Olympic final

:51:42.:51:49.

back in 2004, one player was leading in the Forth game, best of seven.

:51:50.:51:53.

Ten - one, the Chinese coach called time-out. Unbelievable tension

:51:54.:52:00.

around these parts. The Singaporean coach calling time-out at the 11th

:52:01.:52:06.

hour. To be fair to him, I would have done the same. He's quite

:52:07.:52:10.

correct. It is a big point, at the moment. Your mind can be all over

:52:11.:52:16.

the place at this time. Go back and start again.

:52:17.:52:48.

Still alive. He took a risk, fair enough. Why not?

:52:49.:53:16.

And he wins another. Saves a second match point, Andrew Baggaley. Look

:53:17.:53:29.

at how passive Zhan was. A lot of tension on that point, both players

:53:30.:53:34.

playing with a lot of spin. There it is, then! Gold medal to

:53:35.:53:44.

Singapore. Three matches to one. CHEERING AND APPLAUSE the might of

:53:45.:54:01.

the top seeds prevailing after a punishing five days, to a rapturous

:54:02.:54:06.

ovation here at Scotstoun. The deserved winners of goals,

:54:07.:54:12.

Singapore. -- winners of gold medals, Singapore.

:54:13.:54:17.

You had to settle for silver. What feelings are you experiencing right

:54:18.:54:25.

now? Really disappointed. We knew it would be tough but we went with

:54:26.:54:29.

expectations that we could take the gold medal but today there are

:54:30.:54:34.

better than us. Hopefully next time. Before the match did you feel you

:54:35.:54:38.

could beat them? Yes, we had a chance. We have all beaten them

:54:39.:54:42.

before at some point. Today it didn't happen. Andrew, the fact that

:54:43.:54:48.

England go into a match against Singapore, who are so dominant in

:54:49.:54:51.

the Commonwealth Games, just tells you how much England have come on

:54:52.:54:58.

since Delhi? Yes, and we have all beaten them on occasion but today it

:54:59.:55:02.

was not meant to be. But credit to Singapore, they were very strong

:55:03.:55:08.

today and deserved to win. There are more medal chances. You are hoping

:55:09.:55:13.

for more medals here in Glasgow? Yes, I think we can all medal in

:55:14.:55:20.

every event. We had some chances during the match, but we will be

:55:21.:55:24.

back again and we will definitely get the gold medal sometime.

:55:25.:55:29.

Congratulations on your silver. All the best for the rest of the

:55:30.:55:30.

tournament. the best for the rest of the

:55:31.:55:34.

Disappointing but there is a long way to go for Team

:55:35.:55:38.

Disappointing but there is a long Scotstoun, but congratulations to

:55:39.:55:41.

Singapore, the 25th gold medal in their history. Beth Tweddle is here

:55:42.:55:46.

with me. This is your seventh major multisport event you have attended.

:55:47.:55:54.

How is last vote shaping up in Europe? I think it looks fantastic.

:55:55.:55:59.

I went around the village the other day. It looks fantastic. All the

:56:00.:56:04.

countries have put their flag out and stamped their mark on their part

:56:05.:56:08.

of the village will stop You have seen a lot of people coming through

:56:09.:56:14.

that perhaps we do not recognise as yet, but this has always been a

:56:15.:56:18.

breeding ground for timed we are going to see at the Olympic Games.

:56:19.:56:24.

Yes, you will always see that the athletes use the Commonwealth Games

:56:25.:56:29.

as a stepping stone to the Olympics. I did it, Victoria Pendleton says

:56:30.:56:34.

she did it in 2002. It makes the athletes hungry. They are thinking,

:56:35.:56:38.

this is what the Commonwealth Games feels like, imagine what an Olympic

:56:39.:56:44.

Games is going to feel like. It gets you used to the village environment.

:56:45.:56:48.

There has been a lot of talk about the noise, and actually existing in

:56:49.:56:53.

that environment. Yes, when you go to European Championships you are in

:56:54.:56:57.

the hotel and there are not many distractions. In the Athletes'

:56:58.:57:01.

Village there is the food hall, open 24 hours a day, seven days a week,

:57:02.:57:07.

and that can be very tempting. Usain Bolt went into the Athletes' Village

:57:08.:57:10.

the other day and everyone's spirits were lifted because they are sharing

:57:11.:57:18.

that space with a superstar. Are you still feeling the spatial awareness

:57:19.:57:21.

of the gymnasts when you are watching them? Yes, I still feel it

:57:22.:57:26.

but I am glad I have stepped away. I know how much hard work it takes to

:57:27.:57:32.

get out into competition. We will see you tomorrow for day two of the

:57:33.:57:38.

gymnastics competition. There is so much to look forward to particularly

:57:39.:57:43.

in the athletics. Libby Clegg for Scotland. And then we will see who

:57:44.:57:46.

is the fastest man and woman in the Commonwealth, in the men's and

:57:47.:57:55.

women's 100m sprints. That is all from 9:35am. So much to come.

:57:56.:57:58.
