going to show you this evening, but look at this, two members of Wet Wet

:00:25.:00:45.

Wet. This is the keyboard player's son. He will be a good sportsman.

:00:46.:00:50.

Are we struggling with the microphones? Marti Pellow, you are

:00:51.:01:00.

playing in front of a few hundred fans, we have had 18,000 ticket

:01:01.:01:07.

requests for Wet Wet Wet, slightly limited in terms of numbers. What is

:01:08.:01:13.

it like to play in front of a home crowd? Always special, we drop on

:01:14.:01:19.

the banks of the River Clyde, we are looking forward to singing some of

:01:20.:01:22.

the songs that people remember with great passion. Tommy, the fans don't

:01:23.:01:30.

get to see you very often, only three tours in the last 15 years? We

:01:31.:01:36.

got asked how many tours we have done, I think it is something like

:01:37.:01:40.

that, difficult to come together, people are doing different projects,

:01:41.:01:44.

it is always something unique when we take to the stage. In the 1980s

:01:45.:01:50.

and 1990s, we touched a lot of people with our songs, we feel

:01:51.:01:55.

privileged to be able to do it for the 3000 years! It feels like that!

:01:56.:02:02.

How proud have you been up the way the Commonwealth Games has gone

:02:03.:02:07.

down, the way the city has shined in beautiful weather? Absolutely, I was

:02:08.:02:12.

walking through the city, such a wonderful atmosphere. Especially

:02:13.:02:17.

from the point of view, seeing all the rugby players, the whole place

:02:18.:02:24.

was buzzing, I loved it. The highlight for me was the opening

:02:25.:02:27.

ceremony, watching the opening of big aims, as the events started. The

:02:28.:02:36.

real focus is on the sportsman. We feel privileged to be on the stage,

:02:37.:02:40.

we are just the entertainment, the real focus is on all the nations

:02:41.:02:45.

coming together, the kids working their hardest working for 5-10

:02:46.:02:55.

years, one gig to get it right. Glasgow has never shone like this.

:02:56.:02:59.

It has been absolutely fantastic, I told a member of my family I was

:03:00.:03:06.

interviewing you, she said I had to ask you about Eve -- Evita? Yes I'm

:03:07.:03:21.

starting in November, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's production,

:03:22.:03:28.

wonderful for me. What will you be doing tonight? Doing all the hits,

:03:29.:03:34.

lucky to do a tour at the end of last year, making us get our diaries

:03:35.:03:39.

together to get back on the road. We are touring at the moment, we have

:03:40.:03:47.

rehearsed, ready to rock. This is around 500 people, really intimate

:03:48.:03:50.

gig. We usually play to 30,000 people, this is 400. This is your

:03:51.:03:59.

only Scottish gig this year? We have a few more racecourses throughout

:04:00.:04:03.

the country we have been playing, you can see us on our new DVD!

:04:04.:04:11.

Available now! We filmed it just crossed... Have you been primed to

:04:12.:04:22.

promote it? Disgraceful. We performed it at the brand-new venue,

:04:23.:04:25.

our first time playing their across the river. The Hydro. Hopefully we

:04:26.:04:36.

can capture some of that energy. I do think we heard from Little

:04:37.:04:44.

Hayes, what is your highlight? What have you enjoyed about the

:04:45.:04:57.

Commonwealth Games? The diving! It wants to see Tom Daley. An absolute

:04:58.:05:04.

privilege to talk to you. A bit more smiling? Lets give them a round of

:05:05.:05:12.

applause. Wet Wet Wet, who will be performing later on. Apparently you

:05:13.:05:20.

are only highlights show. Let us tell you what we have coming up on

:05:21.:05:22.

BBC Three for you. As promised, the DVD was filmed in

:05:23.:05:36.

the Hydro, we will be there for the women's team gymnastics. Plenty of

:05:37.:05:43.

home nation interest in the boxing, Stephen Donnelly and Anthony Fowler

:05:44.:05:50.

returned to the ring. We will speak to as many of England's Squash

:05:51.:05:59.

medallist as we can. -- return. We will take a trip to the lawn bowls,

:06:00.:06:05.

to see how Northern Ireland got on in their attempt to win their first

:06:06.:06:10.

gold of the games. Look at that, Gary Lineker, looking lovely! He is

:06:11.:06:17.

on BBC1 at the moment. He has swimming and athletics on BBC1. If

:06:18.:06:23.

you want to interrupter the athletics, hit the red button. If

:06:24.:06:28.

you would like to watch the swimming, you can also go to the red

:06:29.:06:33.

button. -- to interrupter the athletics. Get yourself over to the

:06:34.:06:40.

red button, go to the websites, you can watch one of 15 streams. You can

:06:41.:06:50.

follow absolute and delivering -- absolutely everything. I'm sure in a

:06:51.:06:54.

few minutes time you can re-watch that interview. Absolutely

:06:55.:07:00.

everything when it comes to delivering the Commonwealth Games.

:07:01.:07:08.

Are you on Twitter? You are. In terms of social media, anything you

:07:09.:07:13.

would like to say to us regarding coverage, questions, comments,

:07:14.:07:24.

complaints - we get a few of those! Get in touch. We'll be testing out

:07:25.:07:32.

some of the people who came to see Wet Wet Wet on how many of the 71

:07:33.:07:37.

Commonwealth territories they can name. As promised, we will take you

:07:38.:07:44.

to the gymnastics, let's head to the Hydro, the team event. All of the

:07:45.:07:50.

athletes from every single nation competing in all of the single

:07:51.:07:58.

apparatus. Nations can have teams between 3-5 gymnasts, the best three

:07:59.:08:05.

scores count. Let's show you the very best in the afternoon's action.

:08:06.:08:14.

She has had this recurring ankle injury, interesting to see how she

:08:15.:08:22.

gets on. She has been a great gymnasts Paul Wales over the years.

:08:23.:08:27.

Lovely, smooth into the front somersault, court well. Down to the

:08:28.:08:38.

low bars, this is a big element for her. Half turn. Very difficult.

:08:39.:08:46.

Performing it very well, swinging well into the double pike dismount.

:08:47.:08:53.

That was a great routine. The Welsh gymnast looking very impressive. She

:08:54.:09:02.

scores 13.5 .3 free. -- 13.5.33. She is the Welsh champion, that was

:09:03.:09:21.

a very difficult element. Lovely swing, the hands on the bars.

:09:22.:09:26.

Straight down, very smooth, full pirouette. Up to the high bar. Good

:09:27.:09:34.

clear circle to hands. Securely through, just has the dismount.

:09:35.:09:41.

Winding up strongly. Art into the air, fold twist, little buckle of

:09:42.:09:47.

the knees. The Welsh girls have gone well. They are pushing hard. 13.3.

:09:48.:10:01.

Congratulations from the other girls. Georgina, we will ask your

:10:02.:10:13.

thoughts about her in a moment, she is your gymnast. Very nicely done.

:10:14.:10:19.

She is a very hard-working little gymnast. I caught Georgina -- I

:10:20.:10:27.

coach Georgina, along with Brett Ince, she has prepared very well.

:10:28.:10:32.

Very delighted with that strong bolt. Chris Dean is taking notes to

:10:33.:10:49.

work on. -- Christine. Kyra Roberts from Northern Ireland, she was born

:10:50.:10:54.

in Australia. That was a lovely high, straight position. Certainly

:10:55.:11:01.

one of the best landings we have seen. It was not so difficult but

:11:02.:11:23.

she held her shape beautifully. OK, let's move to the bars. Kirsten

:11:24.:11:37.

Beckett. 18 years old. Nicely done, the hands bound in the transfer. --

:11:38.:11:42.

handstand. That was nicely done. handstand. That was nicely done.

:11:43.:11:49.

This is going well, clean in the handstand elements. Very good in the

:11:50.:11:58.

half term. -- half turn. That was good to finish. South Africa are

:11:59.:12:18.

going well, 12.966. The next gymnast to go for South Africa, you will

:12:19.:12:26.

remember her from the World Championships, she is now 19 years

:12:27.:12:33.

old. That was a well flighted flip on, and the straight body shape was

:12:34.:12:39.

held well. She got enough height to add in a twist or two. Just one

:12:40.:12:54.

today. Her individual bid as well as the team title. The next up on the

:12:55.:13:02.

uneven bars is Sarah Beck of Northern Ireland. She is 17. Salto

:13:03.:13:11.

gym club. She started back in the day, aged four. Half turn. She is

:13:12.:13:22.

swinging well. She catches in a handstand. Clean again into the

:13:23.:13:28.

handstand and a good transfer. Keeping the swing. Full turn. She

:13:29.:13:38.

lost a bit of pace there. Just the straight semi. To complete the

:13:39.:13:52.

routine. Congratulations. She had a wonderful time out there. So, the

:13:53.:14:01.

team standings after two rotations, halfway round the competition.

:14:02.:14:16.

STUDIO: We had a proper sprint while you were watching the gymnastics, we

:14:17.:14:19.

are searching for Beth Tweddle and we are going down towards the BBC1

:14:20.:14:24.

studio. She is in here somewhere. We will find her shortly. While we get

:14:25.:14:29.

ready to talk about the afternoon gymnastics and talk about what else

:14:30.:14:32.

we will see on BBC Three over the coming hours, let show you an

:14:33.:14:37.

interview earlier. We saw Paddy Barnes in the ring, just before

:14:38.:14:40.

seven o'clock, he is now into the quarterfinals and after his match he

:14:41.:14:49.

spoke to us. How was that? It was great. I can only improve from here.

:14:50.:14:54.

Everyone else has been fighting and you had to wait to get in, have you

:14:55.:15:01.

been raring to go? That was my first fight and others have had two

:15:02.:15:05.

fights. I think my performance tonight showed how good I was. When

:15:06.:15:11.

you are so much in control of a fight, are you able to conserve

:15:12.:15:15.

energy, because there is always a risk of one punch and that's it, so

:15:16.:15:20.

you have to keep going? I always have a high work rate. I had to make

:15:21.:15:31.

the weight. How are you finding that? It is tough, but I have been

:15:32.:15:39.

the same weight since I was extreme. Some people say they make it easily

:15:40.:15:46.

but they are telling lies. Some people are just getting by on water,

:15:47.:15:51.

but how much food can you consume? It is nothing for me. Well done

:15:52.:15:59.

tonight. Paddy Barnes with John in a dale earlier. We have tracked down

:16:00.:16:02.

Beth Tweddle. She was just inside the green room. She is here to talk

:16:03.:16:07.

about some of the gymnastics we have already watched. A treble world

:16:08.:16:13.

champion. Great Britain 's best ever gymnast, that is a nice headline?

:16:14.:16:17.

You are now retired, so what is it like to work at a major tournament

:16:18.:16:22.

but not on the parallel bars and things? It is very different, I did

:16:23.:16:30.

not know how I would feel but I have been watching the gymnastics and

:16:31.:16:33.

when I watch I knowhow much hard work they put in so I am glad I made

:16:34.:16:38.

the decision to retire. Reddish gymnasts recently have been superb

:16:39.:16:41.

so I have left it in a healthy state. -- British. Plenty more still

:16:42.:16:48.

to come, what have you made of the quality so far in the team event?

:16:49.:16:53.

The quality has been superb. With the British team on the men's side,

:16:54.:16:57.

they have been split into, half with Scotland and half with England said

:16:58.:17:01.

there is a lot of rivalry. England are leading by six and a half marks

:17:02.:17:05.

but the final that everyone will talk about is the pommel horse,

:17:06.:17:10.

Lewis, Max and Daniel Keatings in the final so that will be hotly

:17:11.:17:15.

contested. You touched on a few moments ago how gymnastics has

:17:16.:17:17.

changed and there is always the expectation of quality and medals at

:17:18.:17:23.

the end. It is a huge difference to when you first came in? It is

:17:24.:17:27.

massively different, we used to try for personal bests, we did not

:17:28.:17:32.

expect to get medals. Now we not only expect finals, we expect to win

:17:33.:17:36.

medals. Whether it is on Commonwealth or world level. We have

:17:37.:17:42.

been talking a lot about getting inspired and I have a seven-year-old

:17:43.:17:45.

daughter who is obsessed with gymnastics and she will watch it for

:17:46.:17:50.

three and a half hours. It is great for to be televised because I'd

:17:51.:17:55.

generation are watching these talented athletes from around the

:17:56.:17:58.

world and hopefully they will go out and get involved themselves? -- a

:17:59.:18:06.

whole generation. When I was younger you did not have British role models

:18:07.:18:12.

come at you had to look to the Eastern bloc, but now you can see

:18:13.:18:16.

British athletes on TV and say, you know what, I want to have a go, take

:18:17.:18:21.

a friend along, find your local club. The main thing is for the kids

:18:22.:18:26.

to enjoy it. In terms of what we can expect over the next few days, pick

:18:27.:18:30.

a few things to look out for. This evening we have the English,

:18:31.:18:37.

Australian and Canadian women starting the qualification.

:18:38.:18:40.

Qualification is different now because it is over two days and the

:18:41.:18:43.

team final will conclude tomorrow and we will find out who is top of

:18:44.:18:47.

the rankings. There are so many names it is hard to pick out. I have

:18:48.:18:54.

to put you on the spot. Max Whitlock will take our medals, Daniel

:18:55.:18:58.

Keatings, Lewis, Downing, Williams, there is so many, I cannot just pick

:18:59.:19:05.

out one name. In terms of people watching and thinking, OK, where do

:19:06.:19:08.

I go to get involved? What advice would you give to parents or

:19:09.:19:13.

children who are old enough to sort themselves out, how can they get

:19:14.:19:18.

involved? The British gymnastics website has a link called find a

:19:19.:19:22.

club coming you can find a region in the country and it will name all of

:19:23.:19:26.

the clubs in that area and whether they do trampolining, artistic,

:19:27.:19:30.

rhythmic, there is lots of different aspects. If you do not like what you

:19:31.:19:34.

see tonight, maybe you enjoyed Frankie Jones in the rhythmic, all

:19:35.:19:44.

fancy trampolining. -- are you fancy. Are you now allowed to eat

:19:45.:19:53.

whatever you want? Lots of people have asked what the best thing is

:19:54.:19:57.

about not competing and it is great that you can go to bed without

:19:58.:20:03.

butterflies and eat what you want. Since you have been in Glasgow, have

:20:04.:20:07.

you had a Glaswegian curry? I have not but I have had a Chinese. Beth

:20:08.:20:18.

Tweddle, right, I asked for some recommendations for a Glaswegian Rex

:20:19.:20:22.

Grant, and she gave me five curry recommendations. -- restaurant. I

:20:23.:20:27.

asked her for one that was not a curry restaurant and she looked at

:20:28.:20:31.

me as if to say, what are you talking about? Glasgow is the curry

:20:32.:20:37.

capital. We are a nation of curry lovers. It is basically the national

:20:38.:20:44.

dish. It is the best. You cannot beat it. Glasgow is a curry loving

:20:45.:20:51.

City. It has won the title of British curry capital and impressive

:20:52.:20:56.

four times. We come for a curry every couple of weeks. At least

:20:57.:21:01.

twice a week. That is even more than me! There is no question that

:21:02.:21:07.

Glasgow is a City infused with spice and flavour of curry, thanks to the

:21:08.:21:11.

diverse community rooted in the Commonwealth. Indian immigrants

:21:12.:21:19.

settled in Scotland as early as the 1920s but it was a partition of

:21:20.:21:23.

India in 1947 which sparked the immigration explosion. Confronted

:21:24.:21:30.

with political upheaval and rising unemployment many Indians and

:21:31.:21:32.

Pakistanis looked the security elsewhere in the Commonwealth. By

:21:33.:21:39.

1970, there were 16,000 Asians living in Scotland. And the majority

:21:40.:21:49.

were living in Glasgow. What was it like when you came over in the

:21:50.:21:55.

1960s? In 1962, it was completely different for me. Here there were

:21:56.:22:03.

tall buildings, dark buildings, dark streets. It was very cold. In the

:22:04.:22:10.

winter there was a lot of snow. The winter there was a lot of snow. Me

:22:11.:22:13.

and my father opened a small restaurant with five tables. My

:22:14.:22:17.

mother and father worked in the kitchen. It was more like home

:22:18.:22:28.

cooking. Most of the clientele came from the University, Indian and

:22:29.:22:32.

Pakistani students. We attracted Scottish people also cover Scottish

:22:33.:22:36.

tunes. They came and acquired the taste. -- Scottish students.

:22:37.:22:41.

tunes. They came and acquired the day was better than the last. Over

:22:42.:22:46.

the decades Glasgow 's Asian community has changed the City. It

:22:47.:22:58.

used to be that there was lots of light curries but now they have more

:22:59.:23:02.

spices, they are aware of differences in the cooking. Today

:23:03.:23:11.

the authentic flavours of India and Pakistan are second nature to

:23:12.:23:14.

Glaswegians. There is more flavour in a Glasgow curry. Glasgow and

:23:15.:23:21.

curry go together. It is hotter and sharper. It is a taste of Glasgow,

:23:22.:23:28.

the taste of home. Curry culture is at the heart of the City, it has

:23:29.:23:34.

fused cuisines from across the Commonwealth and now Scotland serves

:23:35.:23:41.

it back to the world. There you go. I hope Beth Tweddle and the rest of

:23:42.:23:47.

you have watched that and know that there are all manner of curry houses

:23:48.:23:52.

that will look after you. They have been spectacular, I cannot mention

:23:53.:23:57.

them, lots of curry houses are available. Just to let you know

:23:58.:24:00.

where you can watch the Sport Tonight, have a look at the red

:24:01.:24:02.

button comes you can watch uninterrupted swinging. We have

:24:03.:24:08.

mentioned athletics a few times, the 100 metres finals is tonight and you

:24:09.:24:12.

can see that uninterrupted on the red button. Have a look on BBC1. The

:24:13.:24:20.

BBC studio is above us, I am not sure if you can see it at the

:24:21.:24:24.

moment. There are a number of guests. We have the gymnastics here

:24:25.:24:28.

on BBC Three, we have just heard from Beth Tweddle. We have coverage

:24:29.:24:32.

of the women's team event and you can watch that on the BBC sport

:24:33.:24:36.

website uninterrupted. If you would like to join in via social media,

:24:37.:24:45.

you can. I had a post-interview chat with Marti Pellow and he says if it

:24:46.:24:54.

is not teacakes, he does not want to hear about it. Tell us what you are

:24:55.:25:00.

nibbling on! We will do that at 9:15pm. Let's have a chat with these

:25:01.:25:06.

lovely ladies. Are you Scottish? We are from Northamptonshire. I have

:25:07.:25:09.

come to see my sister and the Commonwealth Games. What sport have

:25:10.:25:18.

you seen? We have seen the badminton. Did you see England

:25:19.:25:24.

against Malaysian? We saw India and Singapore. What has been your

:25:25.:25:30.

favourite part of the games? The atmosphere, really good, really

:25:31.:25:38.

friendly. Has it been what you expected? We come to Glasgow quite a

:25:39.:25:44.

lot, but the city has been completely different, really lovely.

:25:45.:25:48.

A buzz around the place? The Hammers. Are you seeing anything

:25:49.:25:54.

else? Tomorrow we're going to the swimming, Wednesday wrestling. --

:25:55.:26:07.

there has. Wrestling something you have seen before, or just came out

:26:08.:26:12.

of the pot? Not something we have seen before. What sports do you tend

:26:13.:26:23.

to play. I am a gymnast, I have been doing it for a long time, I do pole

:26:24.:26:28.

vault as well. Horse riding in high jump. We need some equestrian in the

:26:29.:26:34.

Commonwealth Games in the future, you are there. Have a great time in

:26:35.:26:40.

a safe trip home. We have plenty of boxing tonight. We will take you to

:26:41.:26:54.

the SECC, just over there. We have Joe Ham on the way, the Scottish

:26:55.:27:01.

champion, I think he may well have his blue Mohican. Let's join our

:27:02.:27:05.

commentary team. gentlemen, we moved to the

:27:06.:28:19.

bantamweight division in the final 16. -- ladies and gentlemen.

:28:20.:28:36.

Introducing, in the red corner, representing Pakistan Matt -- Nadir

:28:37.:28:56.

Nadir. Representing Scotland, Joe Ham. The referee, in charge, from

:28:57.:29:09.

Argentina. A terrific reception, as you would

:29:10.:29:35.

expect in the SECC for the Scottish representative, Joe Ham, competing

:29:36.:29:46.

in a second Commonwealth Games. Nadir Nadir, two years older than

:29:47.:29:59.

Joe The Miz competed in Delhi. -- he competed in Delhi. He has gathered

:30:00.:30:06.

experience all the time, training in Glasgow. Trained by his dad, Joe

:30:07.:30:19.

senior. Joe Ham in blue, his opponents, Nadir Nadir in red. He

:30:20.:30:30.

does have good head movement, his opponent has fast hands. He has to

:30:31.:30:35.

move his head, slipping to the left, he has to get closer to his

:30:36.:30:51.

opponent. The upright stance. Wonderful response, my words, that

:30:52.:31:01.

was quick. And again. Good defence. That will have worried Nadir Nadir.

:31:02.:31:09.

He has to keep his right-hand nice and high. You watch Joe Ham, he will

:31:10.:31:21.

finish with the left hook. Has to get close. Better by Joe Ham,

:31:22.:31:27.

everything is cheered to the rafters in Glasgow. Getting his right in

:31:28.:31:47.

very nicely. Head and body by Nadir. The jab will also be very important.

:31:48.:31:59.

He can move into range. Nice work by Joe Ham, there is that left hook.

:32:00.:32:05.

May just think about going downstairs. His opponent's right is

:32:06.:32:15.

held quite high. Just got caught with a shot, that is where the head

:32:16.:32:21.

movement is important. Creating a hard to hit target. A good round for

:32:22.:32:27.

Joe Ham. I think he has won that one. Not sure about the head style,

:32:28.:32:32.

but pretty sure about the boxing. There is the left hook, tremendous

:32:33.:32:47.

shock. Has to keep his head moving, needs to use the jab a bit more.

:32:48.:32:56.

This is not an easy contest. Nadir closing the gap down, getting

:32:57.:33:01.

caught. There was the shot from Nadir, not bad. Everyone has given

:33:02.:33:16.

it to the Scotsman by a single point.

:33:17.:33:31.

The man in blue, Joe Ham, losing in the World Championships in

:33:32.:33:39.

Kazakhstan to the outstanding Ukrainian who won the bronze medal.

:33:40.:33:50.

He has outworked his opponent in the first round, Nadir will know he

:33:51.:33:58.

He has outworked his opponent in the banned. That is good defence, lovely

:33:59.:34:03.

switch from head to body. I think that her Nadir, he went backwards.

:34:04.:34:09.

Starting to me pretty well though, he has fast hands. -- starting to

:34:10.:34:14.

move pretty well. The Argentinian referee has a little

:34:15.:34:25.

word with Joe Ham about the use of the head. Nadir battling back quite

:34:26.:34:41.

nicely. Throwing some good shots in. On a couple of occasions, a couple

:34:42.:34:48.

of chances to throw the left hook, when Nadir is throwing his right

:34:49.:34:53.

hand. A1, two, left hook combination. -- a one, two. He has

:34:54.:35:10.

his man where he once in, Joe Ham. Cutting him off. Wonderful

:35:11.:35:20.

variation. Got in with a good right hand. The crowd really appreciating

:35:21.:35:26.

this. Nadir really hurts. He grimaced. It is still there for

:35:27.:35:41.

Ham, if he presses his case. The first round was pretty good from Joe

:35:42.:35:43.

Ham, this is better. A punishing first round was pretty good from Joe

:35:44.:35:49.

left into the ribs. That is a painful thing. That lasts a while.

:35:50.:35:57.

Joe Ham coming forward. Nadir under pressure like never before. Those

:35:58.:36:03.

body shots slow the opponent's feet down, becoming static. Slipping the

:36:04.:36:15.

right hand over the top. Good footwork by Joe Ham, keeping himself

:36:16.:36:23.

out of harms way. Impressive by Ham. We tend to forget that Nadir

:36:24.:36:32.

boxed well in the first minute and a half. The second half Joe Ham was in

:36:33.:36:40.

control. It started off very well, Nadir, good shots through the

:36:41.:36:50.

middle, fast, crisp hands. Now Joe Ham gets to work, a big right hand,

:36:51.:37:05.

that her Nadir. That's macro that hurts -- that hurt Nadir.

:37:06.:37:15.

A good division this. Sean McGoldrick from Wales, the defending

:37:16.:37:33.

champion. Joe Ham has had to wait until date -- day four. To show his

:37:34.:37:54.

potential as a gold medallist. Nadir from Pakistan, a resident in

:37:55.:38:01.

Karachi. Clever little round the corner right hand. Just easing his

:38:02.:38:09.

way past the left of Nadir. He is loving this. The crowd are loving

:38:10.:38:18.

this, too. Boxing very well. Nadir's problem, his hands are fast,

:38:19.:38:23.

but his feet are very slow, too static. Using their jab, moving into

:38:24.:38:34.

range. Good jab. Uses that right-hand very sparingly, but when

:38:35.:38:41.

he does, very positive. He had to cover up there. Nadir coming back at

:38:42.:38:48.

him. Again, good body shot from Joe Ham. Nadir over the top, his feet

:38:49.:38:57.

slowing down. Not so many punches from the man in red. That is a good

:38:58.:39:07.

jab. Nice combination there. No power in the shots from Nadir.

:39:08.:39:17.

The final minute of the final round. When the final bell goes, the hand

:39:18.:39:29.

will be raised from the man in blue, the Scotsman, Joe Ham, in charge all

:39:30.:39:37.

the way through. Taken the odd shot, it has not bothered him, never

:39:38.:39:46.

looking under serious pressure. He is boxing well, showing good

:39:47.:39:50.

variation, he is just practising here. He is experimenting with

:39:51.:39:56.

different shots. The right uppercut is coming into play. Nadir has

:39:57.:40:05.

recovered from a couple of hard body shots in the second and he is

:40:06.:40:09.

certainly doing his best. Around ten seconds remaining. He is working the

:40:10.:40:14.

body again. And then switching to the head. Left hook to the body.

:40:15.:40:22.

Right hand to the head. He has boxed splendidly throughout. Well done,

:40:23.:40:36.

Joe Ham. He boxed well, didn't he? Against a potentially tricky

:40:37.:40:39.

opponent with fast hands but he eventually closes the gap. He landed

:40:40.:40:44.

some terrific left hooks and he worked his body. He put his right

:40:45.:40:49.

hand over the top into play. And in the last round he was very good

:40:50.:40:52.

indeed, switching his attack to the body and finishing with a right

:40:53.:40:58.

hand. A little bit on the inside, a left hook and then a right hand to

:40:59.:41:11.

finish. He does very well indeed. Ladies and gentlemen, before we

:41:12.:41:16.

declare the result, I am sure you will agree that all of the boxers

:41:17.:41:19.

deserve a round of applause. APPLAUSE

:41:20.:41:31.

By way of a unanimous decision and through to the quarterfinal, Joe

:41:32.:41:40.

Ham! CHEERING Well, the roof has almost come off

:41:41.:41:50.

in Glasgow. Joe Ham has been well supported by this great City and

:41:51.:41:55.

today he has been a very impressive fighter.

:41:56.:42:04.

Another impressive performance from Joe Ham, as we mentioned he is the

:42:05.:42:09.

only Glaswegian in the Scottish wild. He came in with his arms

:42:10.:42:12.

raised, the crowd expected victory and that is what he has done,

:42:13.:42:16.

getting through to the quarterfinals. Just a reminder that

:42:17.:42:22.

the boxing continues at the SECC, and the medals will be handed out on

:42:23.:42:27.

Saturday. We'll Joe Ham get one of those? You are the happiest man in

:42:28.:42:34.

Glasgow at the moment? I am happy to do this in Glasgow, and it is nice

:42:35.:42:39.

to cease any people supporting me. It is unbelievable. I have been

:42:40.:42:43.

trading for years to get the chance to box tomorrow. In my hometown. It

:42:44.:42:48.

is seconds anon. You will finally get the chance, after days of

:42:49.:42:54.

sitting around, have you been desperate to get in? It is

:42:55.:42:59.

unbelievable, once we heard the reception, it was unbelievable, so

:43:00.:43:04.

to get my chance... I knew that I would get a good reception and that

:43:05.:43:10.

is the loudest it has been. I hope the crowd continued to follow me. I

:43:11.:43:12.

am ready for anything. the crowd continued to follow me. I

:43:13.:43:20.

crowd you know personally? Easily 80%! This is unbelievable. The

:43:21.:43:25.

support is incredible. Nobody else at the common wealth games will get

:43:26.:43:29.

a reception like that. Onto the next one. Congratulations. That was a

:43:30.:43:37.

good performance. Do you get the feeling he enjoyed that? ! That was

:43:38.:43:42.

Joe Ham of Glasgow talking about how he was lifted by the crowd and he

:43:43.:43:45.

cannot wait for the quarterfinal. Another home nation boxer will now

:43:46.:43:49.

try to join him in the last eight of the men's bantamweight. This man was

:43:50.:43:56.

inspired to get into boxing by the Olympics excess of Amir Khan in

:43:57.:44:05.

2004. -- Olympic success. Can he join Joe Ham in the quarterfinals?

:44:06.:44:08.

Let's go back to the commentators at the SECC. COMMENTATOR: This is the

:44:09.:44:19.

bantamweight division. The judges are from Brazil, Turkey, Sri Lanka,

:44:20.:44:25.

Kazakhstan and Poland. The referee is the vastly experienced Russian

:44:26.:44:46.

Denis Povov. He is 23 years old, this is his second Commonwealth

:44:47.:44:54.

Games. He boxes out of Delhi. A big cheer and plenty of support here in

:44:55.:45:08.

Glasgow for the boy from Leeds. Dennis Popov of Russia brings them

:45:09.:45:14.

together. There is a definite height advantage that the British boxer.

:45:15.:45:20.

This is the top half of the draw. The southpaw from Leeds just comes

:45:21.:45:31.

forward. A gold-medal twice in the prestigious tournaments in Finland.

:45:32.:45:36.

One of those finals, he defeated one of the Scots Joe Ham. He may have

:45:37.:45:42.

his hands full with Thamahane from Lesotho. He had a contest at at 52

:45:43.:45:51.

kilograms in Delhi, and he looks more comfortable in the bantamweight

:45:52.:45:57.

division. Ritchie, you have watched him with the GB squad in recent

:45:58.:46:01.

times? What are your thoughts? I worked with him. Many times. He has

:46:02.:46:07.

lots of skills, he is a natural switch hitter, he is boxing switch

:46:08.:46:16.

southpaw but he is still developing. There is no question about his

:46:17.:46:22.

counterpunching ability, it is very good indeed. He maintains the gap on

:46:23.:46:27.

the retreat. In this situation, he is boxing as an orthodox boxer now.

:46:28.:46:33.

He has lots of skills. Thamahane is a bit of a handful. Especially in

:46:34.:46:38.

close, he does tie up being less man when he steps in. The referee has to

:46:39.:46:47.

be careful. He has to keep this man away from him. A good right hand

:46:48.:46:54.

from the man from Lesotho. What a racket at the Scottish exhibition

:46:55.:46:57.

conference centre, and the banks of the Clyde. He has to concentrate on

:46:58.:47:05.

the mid and long range. He is pushing his opponent back. Some

:47:06.:47:10.

prefer that style of boxing with lots of aggression. Keeping the

:47:11.:47:14.

judges happy, pushing him back now and again. He looks so much bigger.

:47:15.:47:22.

Coming forward in pretty straight lines. A bit on the messy side.

:47:23.:47:28.

Dennis Popoff will have his hands full. If it continues like this.

:47:29.:47:35.

Lovely left hand, that was a well timed punch. You have two watch your

:47:36.:47:41.

head, both of the boxers. -- have to watch. We have always had a lot of

:47:42.:47:51.

contests being stopped because of cuts. That was skilful, there.

:47:52.:47:58.

Landing shots and then turning. It is all about timing here, waiting

:47:59.:48:02.

for him to come, hitting him and then moving again. The referee

:48:03.:48:07.

should do something about that. That was deliberate, I am not saying it

:48:08.:48:19.

was, but it was certainly careful -- it was certainly callous. That was

:48:20.:48:23.

the end of the first round. It was nonstop action. Not altogether tidy

:48:24.:48:27.

but I think being Leishman has done enough to win. -- the Englishman. I

:48:28.:48:38.

felt he landed the better shots. Let's have a look at some of the

:48:39.:48:42.

action. The referee has got to do something about their heads.

:48:43.:48:50.

Thamahane Getting his head in. He just hesitated there. He brings him

:48:51.:48:55.

onto the shot, looping round. That was a lovely move. Let's have a look

:48:56.:48:58.

at it again. His head is almost clashed. One of the judges has given

:48:59.:49:15.

it to Thamahane and the over to Ashraq. Six minutes still to go. --

:49:16.:49:39.

the other. That was a lovely shot. He is moving nicely. The corner will

:49:40.:49:46.

be selling him not to get involved. -- telling him. He is a machine. You

:49:47.:49:53.

just had to move off to the side and then come back again. Bring him onto

:49:54.:49:57.

the right hook like you have been doing. Keep your cool. Keep your

:49:58.:50:04.

focus and concentrate. That is nice boxing, stopping his man with a

:50:05.:50:07.

stiff right hand. This is good boxing now from Ashfaq. I do not

:50:08.:50:14.

think Thamahane will be doing anything else except steaming

:50:15.:50:19.

forward. You have to get your timing right in this situation, bring him

:50:20.:50:23.

onto the shots and move on again. Stay off the ropes at all costs.

:50:24.:50:31.

That was lovely. He'd heed him up with the right and hit him with the

:50:32.:50:36.

left. Ashfaq. He has settled down a bit. Look at how he adjusts his

:50:37.:50:45.

feet, Ashfaq. He is a skilful man. Medium to long range is his

:50:46.:50:52.

strength. Four days since the draw was made. It is difficult to

:50:53.:50:55.

concentrate. Thinking about making the weight every morning. He has

:50:56.:51:06.

waited so long to get the contest under his belt. Again, good

:51:07.:51:10.

movement, hitting and moving, from Ashfaq. He slipped away from his man

:51:11.:51:16.

nicely in the neutral corner. He will be happy to hang on for a

:51:17.:51:33.

second. If the movement slows down from Thamahane that will suit

:51:34.:51:36.

Ashfaq. He has two watch his head on the inside. If you hold your feet he

:51:37.:51:43.

will bring him into it. There is the head. Ashfaq Looks towards his

:51:44.:51:51.

corner. I think he has got this one. He has boxed better in the second

:51:52.:51:58.

round. He has boxed well at distance. He adjusted his feet and

:51:59.:52:02.

brought him onto shots. I think he has done well here. The left hand

:52:03.:52:11.

caught his man as he came in. Thamahane was expecting a different

:52:12.:52:18.

punch entirely. Ten seconds to go. He has kept out of trouble all the

:52:19.:52:23.

way throughout that round. He had a better second round than the first.

:52:24.:52:28.

I'm impressed. He controlled the rhythm of the round much better. His

:52:29.:52:37.

corner will be pleased. He brings him onto the shots. It is important

:52:38.:52:41.

that Ashfaq just keeps off the ropes. Good judgement at distance.

:52:42.:52:49.

He is on the retreat. Boxing as he is going. That is a skill in itself.

:52:50.:52:56.

There is no doubt about that. You realise just how good Ashfaq has

:52:57.:53:06.

been. Thamahane Has been given the second. A predictable response now

:53:07.:53:16.

for the man in red, he will come charging. He was on the slow side to

:53:17.:53:27.

get out of the ring. Back they come. Two rounds, pretty successfully

:53:28.:53:30.

negotiated by the English bantamweight. The 21-year-old from

:53:31.:53:42.

Leeds. Thamahane We'll come steaming forward. He has absolutely nothing

:53:43.:53:46.

to lose. He knows he has to stop Ashfaq from comprehensively

:53:47.:53:57.

outscoring him. Moved off to the side for top the heads were clashing

:53:58.:54:13.

again. Got to keep those hands up. Lovely shot. Slow the guy down. They

:54:14.:54:55.

do work it out. There is the clash of heads again. Is he cuts? No, he

:54:56.:55:12.

not. -- is he cut, no, he is not. So important to boxed clever, box from

:55:13.:55:17.

distance, get your timing right. Do not let him close the gap. Lovely.

:55:18.:55:27.

Lovely, lovely, lovely. That is what his corner was telling him to do, he

:55:28.:55:29.

has done just that. his corner was telling him to do, he

:55:30.:55:38.

He is flailing around now. It is all about counterattacking, then

:55:39.:55:45.

springing the attack. Then getting on your bike again. He shoves his

:55:46.:55:55.

man. Less than half a minute to negotiate. He is only

:55:56.:56:08.

man. Less than half a minute to away from a Commonwealth medal. He

:56:09.:56:13.

has been gaining all the way through. The skill and the accurate

:56:14.:56:17.

punching have come from the man in blue. He has won this. He goes over

:56:18.:56:28.

to his opponent, saying thank you very much. Nice punch of the gloves.

:56:29.:56:38.

A bruiser, having waited Forde -- four days. His opponent kept coming.

:56:39.:56:48.

The tactics were very good. The movement was the key, the

:56:49.:56:53.

counterattack, stepping into counter. In these situations you

:56:54.:57:00.

cannot panic, concentrating, total focus in your own ability.

:57:01.:57:17.

Confirmation of the victory. He will be happy, happy English supporters

:57:18.:57:27.

as well. All three judges going for the English bantamweight.

:57:28.:57:44.

He goes through is to the quarterfinal, he will face Joe Ham.

:57:45.:57:50.

We had a fascinating interview with him. We should get an interview with

:57:51.:58:01.

him shortly. That cannot have been the easiest contest, him running at

:58:02.:58:06.

you from start to finish? We did not know anything about the kids, we

:58:07.:58:10.

were prepared for anything, he was a strong kid. Hard to predict. I have

:58:11.:58:16.

done the job, waiting a week and a half. What have you been doing?

:58:17.:58:25.

Exactly, I don't know myself. Laying in bed, watching the guys box. Got

:58:26.:58:31.

the nerves out of my system. Through to the semifinals. You are fighting

:58:32.:58:36.

Joe Ham, you may be fighting the crowd? I have boxed him three times.

:58:37.:58:44.

I know what he is about, are very good kid. I am more than capable of

:58:45.:58:54.

beating him. Well done tonight. We have plenty more boxing and

:58:55.:58:57.

gymnastics on the way through the course of the evening. If you want

:58:58.:59:01.

to see gymnastics right now, you can go online, watching it

:59:02.:59:09.

uninterrupted. The other sports we are offering, BBC1 has athletics and

:59:10.:59:15.

swimming. You can watch athletics uninterrupted on the red button. The

:59:16.:59:21.

same for the swimming. Hopefully we have all your choices covered. We

:59:22.:59:29.

will go down to the quayside, Wet Wet Wet will be performing shortly.

:59:30.:59:34.

You may hear screams of 500 middle-aged women getting ready for

:59:35.:59:40.

them. We will see them on stage shortly. Right now, time for the

:59:41.:59:43.

news. Yeah, I am looking for

:59:44.:59:51.

a Prince Charming. I don't think I'm ugly, but I don't

:59:52.:59:53.

think I'm, like, really pretty. I say, "You've got something

:59:54.:59:57.

on your bum." "Really?" And I say,

:59:58.:00:04.
