to Glasgow. 31 gold medals up for grabs here at the Commonwealth

:00:47.:00:56.

Games, this is what is coming up. We are heading across the river to the

:00:57.:00:59.

Hydro to see the climax of the men's team final of the artistic

:01:00.:01:02.

gymnastics, will England pick Scotland to the gold medal? And the

:01:03.:01:08.

noisy neighbours next door will be going at it again inside the SECC as

:01:09.:01:11.

England's Reece McFadden and Northern Ireland's Rory Dodds have

:01:12.:01:20.

big fight in the last eight. Plenty of other sport, and BBC Three it is

:01:21.:01:26.

the badminton. And on the red button you can watch live coverage of the

:01:27.:01:32.

artistic gymnastics that we are talking about this afternoon.

:01:33.:01:38.

Meanwhile, on the BBC Sport website, lots of great sport to look forward

:01:39.:01:39.

to. So to the gymnastics in a moment,

:01:40.:02:03.

but first the headlines. Defending 110 metres hurdles champion Andi

:02:04.:02:09.

Taylor is out after clattering the first two hurdles of his heat.

:02:10.:02:15.

Eilidh Child breezed through the first 400m hurdles heat. Andrew

:02:16.:02:22.

Osagie is disqualified from the men's 800 metres heats after coming

:02:23.:02:25.

together at the finish with friend and training partner Joe Thomas.

:02:26.:02:29.

England are expected to launch an appeal. A Canadian 1-2 at the

:02:30.:02:41.

mountain biking, Catharine Pendrel conquering the course to take gold.

:02:42.:02:47.

And Sam Oldham has suffered a severe ankle injury in a dismount and left

:02:48.:02:52.

the arena in a wheelchair, but English gymnasts are on course to

:02:53.:02:58.

secure gold inside the Hydro. I am delighted to say that Beth Tweddle

:02:59.:03:02.

is with me in the studio as we go over the Hydro later to look at the

:03:03.:03:07.

men's team final in the artistic gymnastics. I have to talk to you

:03:08.:03:10.

about Sam Oldham's injury, it looks really bad. You can see on the

:03:11.:03:15.

replay that when he landed awkwardly on his ankle, the coaching team were

:03:16.:03:20.

straight on to make sure he was OK. Yes, he came in a little bit short,

:03:21.:03:24.

all the impact was on his left ankle, so the medical staff and

:03:25.:03:28.

coaches were straight to him. Obviously, we will just let them do

:03:29.:03:31.

their assessments and wait for the verdict. We can see what happens, it

:03:32.:03:37.

looks like a twisted ankle, the coaching team straight on. It is

:03:38.:03:41.

really unfortunate, he has just come back from injury, making his form

:03:42.:03:46.

and has been having a great Games, so we have just got to leave them,

:03:47.:03:52.

and luckily we have got that depth of strength in the English team to

:03:53.:03:56.

carry on the competition without him. So disappointing, given he had

:03:57.:04:00.

hurt his ankle is at the World Championships. It is devastating for

:04:01.:04:05.

any athlete, he has done all the preparation to be here, he is in

:04:06.:04:08.

great form, and there's nothing you can say that will make him feel

:04:09.:04:12.

better. We have just got to wait to see what the final verdict is on

:04:13.:04:17.

that ankle. A fantastic arena, fantastic crowds as well, because

:04:18.:04:22.

the fans have been queueing up - for British gymnastics, it is a big

:04:23.:04:26.

thing. It has been flying high recently, with the Europeans, 25

:04:27.:04:33.

medals, and Nile Wilson making his debut in the senior competition, Max

:04:34.:04:37.

Whitlock, European champion, so many people to support, then Daniel

:04:38.:04:41.

Purvis, Daniel Keatings on the Scottish team, Adam Cox, a previous

:04:42.:04:44.

Commonwealth medallist. So many to watch. Across to the Hydro, a

:04:45.:04:51.

terrific venue, fantastic atmosphere, the newest landmark on

:04:52.:04:54.

the riverside with a full Olympic size gymnastics layout, it is also

:04:55.:04:59.

hosting the boxing and netball finals. We can join the commentary?

:05:00.:05:02.

Matt Baker, Mitch Fenner and Christine Still.

:05:03.:05:07.

-- the commentary team of Matt Baker.

:05:08.:05:17.

So there is the list of Canadians. That will change, because Louis

:05:18.:05:20.

Smith is going to have to go on parallel bars. He will be first up,

:05:21.:05:25.

as you can see, now that Sam Oldham is out of the arena. And the high

:05:26.:05:32.

bar. And the high bar as well, it is three scores that count. I think he

:05:33.:05:35.

will have a swing, why not? He can work it. When I spoke to him, he

:05:36.:05:41.

said he had not been on the high bar in the lead up to the competition,

:05:42.:05:46.

so it will be very interesting. Yeah, time will tell, will he go out

:05:47.:05:53.

and have a couple of long swings and back away? They will probably decide

:05:54.:05:57.

after the first three work. A couple of long swings and back away! So

:05:58.:06:06.

Liam Davie for Scotland, the City of Glasgow club. Globe out nice

:06:07.:06:14.

flourish with one arm, leisurely, easy approach to his swimming. Very

:06:15.:06:23.

clean, keeping the swing, guaranteeing the release. Another

:06:24.:06:30.

one coming up! Oh, and Evie lead didn't get across the bar for

:06:31.:06:41.

rotation. -- and he really didn't. This is very, very brave to

:06:42.:06:43.

continue. Showing very good technique, here is

:06:44.:06:59.

the wind-up. He made the dismount, but what part of the body made

:07:00.:07:03.

contact? It was certainly the upper chest and neck area. He pulled in on

:07:04.:07:09.

the release and cost to close. Oh, that will have taken the wind out of

:07:10.:07:14.

the sails, and didn't he do well to continue and land the dismount

:07:15.:07:20.

safely? Fantastic, actually it was a really good routine, big style.

:07:21.:07:21.

Well, Louis Smith, they need really good routine, big style.

:07:22.:07:28.

now! Parallel bars, I assume he has worked this. When he started his

:07:29.:07:33.

comeback, he said, I am just here to do the pommel horse, but he needs to

:07:34.:07:35.

make sure of his place in the team. There will be some deductions, but

:07:36.:07:49.

not as many as if he had fallen off. He is a gritty competitor, lovely

:07:50.:07:51.

line in the handstand as well. Smooth swing turn, very efficient.

:07:52.:08:06.

The front somersault. He is living with the times.

:08:07.:08:16.

Just one more bit, just the landing, wonder. From Louis Smith!

:08:17.:08:22.

He answered the call in the moment of need. Well, the England team

:08:23.:08:27.

would certainly have been shaken by the fact that Sam Oldham has left

:08:28.:08:31.

the area and the arena, but Louis Smith, well, what a job for England!

:08:32.:08:36.

Just that slight hesitation at the start, but afterwards he got this

:08:37.:08:41.

new lazy style into the swing, and that was really good to see. He

:08:42.:08:46.

really is taking this very, very seriously and has produced a good

:08:47.:08:53.

routine. Still no news on Sam Oldham, but it has got to be

:08:54.:08:58.

ligament damage, maybe a fracture. 12.133, Liam Davie.

:08:59.:09:10.

Scotland's bid for a first ever team silver at the Commonwealth Games

:09:11.:09:15.

continues now with Daniel Purvis on high bar. He was fourth at the

:09:16.:09:20.

British Championships earlier this year. Dan, of course, a member of

:09:21.:09:30.

the worlds most exclusive club, very few in it, showing his work on the

:09:31.:09:33.

start. Very quick through the Rybalko but

:09:34.:09:51.

was laid on the catch. One and a half turns, so the second half of

:09:52.:09:58.

the routine makes good some of the problems with the first. He will

:09:59.:10:04.

need a good one, the double-double, and once again the second half of

:10:05.:10:08.

the routine saves the routine. Well, they will stay ahead of Canada.

:10:09.:10:19.

Again, a little bit of an edgy performance. 14.133 for Louis

:10:20.:10:24.

Smith, that is a good score on the parallel bars. 8.2 execution, he is

:10:25.:10:32.

back with style, isn't he? I'm not just talking about the hairdo! It is

:10:33.:10:38.

good to see him. Yeah, I wonder if I could do a hairdo like that. I

:10:39.:10:47.

wouldn't try it, Mitch! The image has completely floored you, hasn't

:10:48.:10:54.

it, Matt? Well, Max Whitlock has been so impressive all the way

:10:55.:10:58.

round, let's just enjoy his parallel bars. Locks out nicely.

:10:59.:11:06.

I will tell you what, he is on a roll.

:11:07.:11:14.

He has to be in perfect here. The pirouette sorted, there we are,

:11:15.:11:22.

plenty of room to set that up, nice and high and clean.

:11:23.:11:28.

Healey, he dropped the hips but did well. Out Keogh what art. -- out to

:11:29.:11:53.

one bar. Double pike, just a stiff back, and really he has been

:11:54.:11:57.

consistent all the way through. He has this remarkable ability just to

:11:58.:12:02.

adapt his body and almost his style to each piece of apparatus, soft and

:12:03.:12:07.

flowing when he needs to be, attacking at the right time.

:12:08.:12:12.

Dan Purvis, then, 13.833 for high bar. The scores have been quite

:12:13.:12:26.

tight on high bar today. Very. They genuinely are, and they have been

:12:27.:12:32.

today. The 19-year-old, very good athlete and parallel bars. -- on.

:12:33.:12:42.

Tall, elegant gymnast. Can be stunning on this apparatus, and that

:12:43.:12:46.

was a good start. Watch closely here, super Tkatchev. Here we go

:12:47.:12:53.

again, was a good start. Watch closely

:12:54.:12:54.

here, super Tkatchev. Here we go the straddle Tkatchev, all the really

:12:55.:12:56.

here, super Tkatchev. Here we go the straddle exciting work. Smooth

:12:57.:13:02.

squats dislocation into the handstand with half turn. The

:13:03.:13:05.

Tkatchev with half turn, very smooth. This is lovely work, needs

:13:06.:13:09.

to keep his concentration. The dislocated swing, you can see

:13:10.:13:24.

the shoulders endo. Accelerating up into the air, one twist, one great

:13:25.:13:30.

landing. Frank Baines, very impressed. Well, he is proving to be

:13:31.:13:35.

a very valuable member of Team Scotland today. He is having a good

:13:36.:13:41.

day! Brilliant day! And he looks just like the gymnast who came out

:13:42.:13:46.

here yesterday, a bit overwrought, a bit stunned by it, knows what he is

:13:47.:13:53.

coming to today. Well, Max, with 14.5, huge parallel bars score, and

:13:54.:14:00.

yet another individual final for Max. And he needs just over 14 for a

:14:01.:14:06.

19 all-round score, that is incredible. This is the first time

:14:07.:14:12.

that Nile Wilson hasn't been out first, with the men for Great

:14:13.:14:15.

Britain, England I should say. Oh, lovely half turn. And to one

:14:16.:14:33.

rail, you know, he was a junior a few weeks ago, and this is just

:14:34.:14:38.

incredible. On the senior stage, to produce work like this!

:14:39.:14:43.

An incredible performance. He is starting to really enjoyed it.

:14:44.:15:08.

Yesterday, he said he was starting to feel the pressure. Now, he is

:15:09.:15:16.

feeding off it. I introduced him by saying Great

:15:17.:15:20.

Britain but surely that is a flash of the future. He has got to be

:15:21.:15:24.

selected. The selectors will be watching.

:15:25.:15:29.

It was a strong decision to bring him into this team, there were a lot

:15:30.:15:39.

of others left at home. Frank and Nile have come through the

:15:40.:15:45.

ranks together. Daniel Keatings, for the high bar.

:15:46.:16:07.

It has always -- he has always been one of my favourite gymnasts to

:16:08.:16:20.

watch. He deserves to do well here, in front of his home crowd.

:16:21.:16:30.

With his own coach on the floor with him. Coach to Louis Smith as well.

:16:31.:16:38.

One thing is for sure, people like you. -- he will fly here.

:16:39.:16:58.

There is a huge roar from the crowd, the last gymnast up on high

:16:59.:17:03.

bar, for Scotland. A smooth start. Good acceleration.

:17:04.:17:26.

The big release, a full turn in the double back. Smoothly in. A little

:17:27.:17:36.

off-line. But he recovered while. The Tkatchev with a half turn. He is

:17:37.:17:44.

going for broke here. Squats out into a good, straight line. He is

:17:45.:17:50.

very stylish. A gymnast who likes to be perfect in his performance. We

:17:51.:17:58.

just need a big dismount, concentrate. A full twist. What a

:17:59.:18:03.

delight. A superb performance for Scotland.

:18:04.:18:08.

And great from the individual perspective as well.

:18:09.:18:16.

He was actually smiling before he hit the deck. A terrific

:18:17.:18:27.

performance, a great finish. The pressure is slowly easing now.

:18:28.:18:32.

Nile Wilson. Scott Morgan for Canada.

:18:33.:19:05.

A big floor and fault man. Plenty of attack. Oh, yes. -- vault. A full

:19:06.:19:20.

twist and straight front. Massive vault. Look how clean,

:19:21.:19:26.

straight down the middle. He is the second-highest Scott

:19:27.:19:50.

defined -- behind Frank Baines. Clay now.

:19:51.:20:06.

Double front. The question is Werther freaked down first -- world

:20:07.:20:25.

the feet? If not, it will be a zero. Let us have a closer look.

:20:26.:20:40.

I think he will get away with that. Just about.

:20:41.:21:11.

Is Louis Smith going to have a go, it doesn't look like it.

:21:12.:21:18.

I think Sam would have been laughed up on high bar. If they have had

:21:19.:21:21.

three people go through, they will not bother.

:21:22.:21:37.

That will turn into a 206 five plus total, they are world-class.

:21:38.:21:46.

It just remains to see who will be taking that bronze medal place.

:21:47.:22:02.

Whether Australia will get in there. England are untouchable, there is no

:22:03.:22:06.

way that Scotland can catch them. That was a big school.

:22:07.:22:14.

-- score. Look at the difference, eight marks clear. Scotland, then

:22:15.:22:21.

Canada, Australia. Canada have a cushion as well.

:22:22.:22:25.

They will have to go badly to pieces for Australia to catch them.

:22:26.:22:32.

It looks like another gold medal heading to team England.

:22:33.:22:38.

The big story is Australia are in fourth and may miss out on a medal.

:22:39.:22:45.

Australia have been struggling for the past couple of years in men's

:22:46.:22:49.

gymnastics. The girls side didn't even send any

:22:50.:22:55.

gymnasts to the 20 13th World Championship, they were ready. It

:22:56.:23:00.

may be a different story. -- 2013. You talk about the strength

:23:01.:23:06.

and depth of England, they have been remarkably consistent.

:23:07.:23:11.

They have constituency, difficulty, they have everything. They are eight

:23:12.:23:18.

marks ahead of Scotland. They are too strong.

:23:19.:23:23.

Before we started the Commonwealth Games, you were talking about

:23:24.:23:27.

Scottish gymnastics, and the state of British gymnastics. You said the

:23:28.:23:32.

noisy Scottish crowd would roar them on to victory but not even they can

:23:33.:23:37.

do that. England are too far ahead, there is

:23:38.:23:42.

nothing Scotland can do except save that silver medal. They have never

:23:43.:23:45.

had a team basil so they will be over the moon. It is a boost for

:23:46.:23:49.

Scottish gymnastics. -- team medal. They have no leeway with three men.

:23:50.:24:10.

That is what we are used to seeing in finals.

:24:11.:24:15.

They had to do it in qualifying in the Europeans, they can cope with

:24:16.:24:23.

it. This is the last piece of apparatus.

:24:24.:24:39.

Just the top three. Oldham macro is out, we still have not heard --

:24:40.:25:05.

Oldham. They will have taken him to the

:25:06.:25:26.

hospital straight away. Without a doubt. I won't imagine they will

:25:27.:25:31.

release any information until they are sure.

:25:32.:25:40.

You said he had his eye on the Japanese gymnast who is out of this

:25:41.:25:52.

world, of the scale. When you have a target like that, you leave the rest

:25:53.:25:57.

of the world behind, even if you are in second place. The only manned

:25:58.:26:05.

collection man to top 93 as a total -- the only man. That is staggering.

:26:06.:26:20.

Enjoying a slow motion Mexican wave which has caught Louis Smith's I.

:26:21.:26:31.

He has finished his job, done his bit for the team now.

:26:32.:26:40.

Interestingly, Louis Smith is the seventh highest parallel bars

:26:41.:26:49.

school. -- score. That would be his only final. Nile Wilson gets a shot

:26:50.:26:59.

at the parallel bars. Now, Adam Cox. A 5.2 difficulty.

:27:00.:27:06.

This could be the last performance we ever see from Adam Cox, he could

:27:07.:27:13.

well retire after this. He powers down, a precise slip,

:27:14.:27:18.

double twist. Really delighted to have landed that. -- flip. He has

:27:19.:27:30.

really performed well today. He has dug deep for the team.

:27:31.:27:35.

He punched his way through the twist. He had to tuck his legs in.

:27:36.:27:39.

Then he stretched out to make the double turn. Celebration!

:27:40.:27:49.

Let us sit back and be impressed because this will be something.

:27:50.:28:10.

Oh, yes. He put the half turn in. A good release. A little bit wild. A

:28:11.:28:27.

full turn setting up. Keeping the swing pure. That is better.

:28:28.:28:33.

Easy through. A round and a half turn.

:28:34.:28:46.

Changing the shape. Here comes the dismount. That will do nicely. A

:28:47.:28:54.

little step forward. A twisting double. What a competition.

:28:55.:29:02.

Just outstanding. We will see him tomorrow in the competition. I

:29:03.:29:05.

cannot wait. He has looked on fire these last two

:29:06.:29:09.

days. He is so focused and driven. Lytwyn of Canada on the parallel

:29:10.:29:25.

bars. A very powerful gymnast. That was

:29:26.:29:33.

good height, good left. Going smoothly up to the handstand. Nicely

:29:34.:29:42.

done with the full turn on one arm. And backwards as well. A super

:29:43.:29:48.

height on the front somersault. loss of leg form on that swing turn,

:29:49.:30:05.

and none on the double pike. He is delighted with that, keeping

:30:06.:30:13.

Canadian hopes alive. Adam Cox, 14.066. Looking secure in silver

:30:14.:30:23.

medal position. Team Scotland, 5.2 difficulty this, then, Dan

:30:24.:30:26.

Keatings. Opting for the double twist, yeah,

:30:27.:30:44.

easily done! A pace back to bring it under control, but well done, and

:30:45.:30:50.

they love it. Yes, we will see Dan in the all-around. And a bit of a

:30:51.:30:57.

while since we have seen many all-around competition is from

:30:58.:31:00.

Daniel Keatings, great to see him finish that six pieces with a very

:31:01.:31:09.

confident double twisting Tsukahara. Not the start score of

:31:10.:31:14.

song, just out of 5.2, so not massively into the 15s with it, but

:31:15.:31:26.

a good, solid vault. You see the little divider in Max's bag, little

:31:27.:31:33.

compartments. 14.766, yes, he wraps up his bandages and puts them in one

:31:34.:31:43.

section. Nile Wilson. He is rounding off his competition on high bar.

:31:44.:31:51.

A young man that... Oh, plenty of height on the flight, good, straight

:31:52.:32:00.

arms on the swing. Good through the Coleman, kept his knees together,

:32:01.:32:02.

quite a task. Rybalko, one and a half turns,

:32:03.:32:11.

nicely, nicely done. through the junior ranks they really

:32:12.:32:30.

have technique hammered into them, and he is showing it well here.

:32:31.:32:43.

The deep pike out to set up the dismount, and tiny little

:32:44.:32:54.

adjustments. Oh, I am a senior gymnast, and watch me go! Nile

:32:55.:33:01.

Wilson, the penultimate gymnast for England, and that, without question,

:33:02.:33:07.

has sealed it for England. They will take gold. Scotland, 14.133 for Dan

:33:08.:33:12.

Keatings, that will secure silver for them. So Frank Baines can enjoy

:33:13.:33:20.

this a little bit. He must still focus, though, a 5.6 difficulty. And

:33:21.:33:26.

he has been very secure today. He needs a good strong vault. Two

:33:27.:33:49.

and a half twists, half turn on the Tsukahara with two and a half

:33:50.:33:53.

twists, it is going to be a bit of a battle for the finals with these

:33:54.:33:59.

guys. Oh, yes! Just a nonchalant step to the side, yeah, good news

:34:00.:34:05.

for Scotland, it is silver for them, first time ever in 18 final. He

:34:06.:34:13.

looks delighted, doesn't he? Nile Wilson, 14.8. 6.2 difficulty, for

:34:14.:34:21.

someone who was a junior a couple of weeks ago! Hello, World

:34:22.:34:27.

Championships, he should get a T-shirt with that written on. Well,

:34:28.:34:35.

the job of rounding off England's competition falls to Kristian

:34:36.:34:41.

Thomas. It will be the first time since 2002 that England have won

:34:42.:34:49.

this team, dish and. -- this team competition. And you couldn't have a

:34:50.:34:50.

nicer bloke to be finishing competition. And you couldn't have a

:34:51.:34:57.

it for you. And he is on song. Dreamlike in his execution, long

:34:58.:35:01.

lines, look at this, full turn, plenty of time! He have to struggle

:35:02.:35:07.

a little bit, but you have to admire him.

:35:08.:35:11.

Tkatchev with half turn, keeps the swing pure and simple.

:35:12.:35:27.

And here it comes, stand it up, that will do! Oh! Fantastic! The ever

:35:28.:35:44.

reliable Kristian Thomas does the job for Team England, they will take

:35:45.:35:50.

gold! And what a thoroughly deserved the Finnish there. He is really the

:35:51.:35:56.

backbone of the team these past years. The national coach, who is

:35:57.:36:00.

one of the Russian coaches that have come, they have really moulded into

:36:01.:36:09.

the British system. His personal coach, Scott, is the other coach on

:36:10.:36:12.

the floor. What a great job they have done, how well to focus once

:36:13.:36:21.

Sam got hurt. Frank Baines, 14.566, certainly good enough for silver for

:36:22.:36:22.

Scotland. So the job of gaining bonus marks

:36:23.:36:45.

goes to Dan Purvis. Parallel bars, pommel horse, and others to contend

:36:46.:36:55.

with over the next few days. Dan Purvis focuses in on the vault.

:36:56.:37:01.

Precise, lovely height, two and a half twists, and he makes it look as

:37:02.:37:10.

easy as can be! He almost does that as a crowd-pleaser, doesn't he? He

:37:11.:37:14.

waved to the crowd almost as part of his landing. Oh, he will be

:37:15.:37:19.

delighted, and so we should be, a great team effort. You know, they

:37:20.:37:24.

were under a lot of pressure to hang on to the coat-tails, I suppose, of

:37:25.:37:31.

England. Lagat this! Two and a half twists, little bit of centre, but

:37:32.:37:37.

who cares? -- look at this. A good way to wrap up your team effort and

:37:38.:37:41.

your individual challenge, Dan Purvis, very popular young man,

:37:42.:37:45.

quiet, unassuming, but hugely talented.

:37:46.:37:54.

Look at that. You see, this is important, again, 15.033, good job,

:37:55.:38:08.

Kristian Thomas, very good job, Team England. And our thoughts are with

:38:09.:38:13.

some old at the moment, who somewhere is having an X-ray. -- Sam

:38:14.:38:18.

Oldham. Well, Canada are holding onto that

:38:19.:38:31.

bronze medal position. On parallel bars, this is Scott Morgan. They

:38:32.:38:37.

have done well to keep their focus with all this racket going on for

:38:38.:38:40.

Scotland and England! This is lovely. Lots of good work on

:38:41.:38:44.

parallel bars at this competition, it is not an easy piece. Oh, that is

:38:45.:38:49.

lovely. Healy with his hips well out, this

:38:50.:39:09.

is good technique from him. Oh, and what a pity! The wheels can fall off

:39:10.:39:17.

at the most unlikely place. He just slightly overcooked that, didn't he?

:39:18.:39:24.

He seemed to explode, basically. What a disappointment for him, it

:39:25.:39:28.

was going really well, some lovely stuff. Very difficult skill to

:39:29.:39:34.

negotiate. But you need to carry on. There is the double pike.

:39:35.:39:41.

Good enough for bronze, Nathan Gafuik scores 13.533.

:39:42.:39:59.

Oh, yes, goodness me, after that horrendous high bar incident, I am

:40:00.:40:08.

sure he is absolutely feeling it. We will try to get a chat, find out.

:40:09.:40:14.

But 14.833 secures and confirms that Scotland take a silver medal and

:40:15.:40:21.

make history for the first time ever, a team medal at the

:40:22.:40:26.

Commonwealth Games. Paul has been in charge and looking after the

:40:27.:40:30.

Scottish team. Usually his job is to contend with the British team here,

:40:31.:40:36.

just consoling Liam. It is worth saying that all three teams in the

:40:37.:40:41.

medal positions, one of them England, 250, 260, it would be worth

:40:42.:40:47.

looking at whether the English score has beaten the British score at the

:40:48.:40:53.

Europeans. They have been hugely impressive, Mitch, haven't they?

:40:54.:40:57.

Sort of solid, mentally solid. And to lose what was potentially one of

:40:58.:41:03.

your highest scoring gymnasts and still produce a score like that,

:41:04.:41:09.

three quarters of the way round, remarkable. Absolutely remarkable,

:41:10.:41:12.

and Team Scotland, Team Scotland, then, take silver! For the first

:41:13.:41:23.

time in Commonwealth Games history, Gymnastics Scotland take a team of

:41:24.:41:29.

silver! Adam Lanza every bit of this, doesn't he? He has sort of

:41:30.:41:32.

been there every bit of the way through, seen the days when there

:41:33.:41:38.

was no chance for Scotland. Great moment for

:41:39.:41:44.

Dan Purvis, the two Dans, Frank Baines as well. Welcome to the world

:41:45.:41:56.

of selection to the British team. It is going to be a tough choice! From

:41:57.:42:01.

one to another, they are all world-class. What a team!

:42:02.:42:13.

There is your bronze medallists. And a bit of a story with Australia, you

:42:14.:42:26.

know, not a single medal for the Australian men. They will put that

:42:27.:42:34.

right with the women, won't they? They were not massively impressive

:42:35.:42:41.

last night, they are lying second, but they will have to do the job.

:42:42.:42:47.

Confirmation, then, that England are Commonwealth Games champions ahead

:42:48.:42:51.

of Scotland, who take silver, making history, the first time ever that

:42:52.:42:55.

Scotland have had a medal at the team Jaguar jets in the Commonwealth

:42:56.:42:57.

Games. Scotland have had a medal at the

:42:58.:42:57.

team Jaguar jets in the Canada take bronze, Australia out of the medals

:42:58.:43:03.

in fourth. Wales fifth, a solid, strong performance from them, ahead

:43:04.:43:09.

of New Zealand in sixth. Max, Commonwealth team gold, how

:43:10.:43:15.

does that feel? It is amazing, there is still another competition at

:43:16.:43:17.

this, so we're just waiting to see we can put in a good score, come

:43:18.:43:23.

together and prepare for this. In front of a crowd like this, it is

:43:24.:43:29.

amazing. We have seen you congratulating the Scottish team,

:43:30.:43:32.

you train with those guys, what has it been like to put one over on

:43:33.:43:36.

them? It is very different, these are guys who are friends and

:43:37.:43:40.

team-mates, and it is interesting, a bit of fun training with them and

:43:41.:43:44.

against them, and they have done a great job, and hopefully they can

:43:45.:43:49.

come out on top. At that point back row when you landed from the high

:43:50.:43:53.

bar, you looks like you knew you had nailed it. Yeah, I mean, there was a

:43:54.:43:58.

lot of pressure going last on high bar, such high-pressure apparatus,

:43:59.:44:03.

and I just wanted to get through the routine cleanly and finish the

:44:04.:44:06.

competition for the lads, because we have been training so hard,

:44:07.:44:08.

competition for the lads, because we have been training so you know, for

:44:09.:44:11.

the whole team and Sam as well. You had to wait whilst I was injured

:44:12.:44:16.

before you could do your vault, how hard was that? Any news? Not yet, he

:44:17.:44:22.

has gone to be assessed, we don't know what the situation is yet, but

:44:23.:44:26.

we wish him all the best, I am pretty sure he will be fine in a

:44:27.:44:33.

couple of weeks. Your first senior competition, what a way to do it?

:44:34.:44:37.

Yes, it has been unbelievable, the whole experience, the village first

:44:38.:44:41.

has been a supportive environment and this at faecesing I have never

:44:42.:44:47.

experienced anything like it. It looked very comfortable, well done

:44:48.:44:50.

and Lewis, you came in and said you had a lot to prove coming back to

:44:51.:44:54.

competition, do you think you have answered your critics? I think so.

:44:55.:44:59.

Today has been a brilliant experience, despite what happened to

:45:00.:45:02.

Sam, we had to concentrate on what we needed to do and put pressure on

:45:03.:45:10.

us, but we did the job and we have had fun, we love the Commonwealth

:45:11.:45:13.

Games, it has been a great experience. Well done. And a

:45:14.:45:23.

fantastic performance, but we have got to focus on Max Whitlock, the

:45:24.:45:29.

first time he has broken 90 in his career. What a time to do it.

:45:30.:45:36.

Unbelievable for the guys, to score plus 90, that is on a world level.

:45:37.:45:45.

Max is looking towards Reo and he will take confidence from that. Here

:45:46.:45:49.

are some of the highlights from Max. Earlier these year he said of his

:45:50.:45:54.

desire to make 90 points. He said it is important, because it puts him up

:45:55.:45:58.

there with the rest of the world. He is spot on. Yes he know what is he

:45:59.:46:04.

wants out of his career and he is so focussed, you see him in training,

:46:05.:46:08.

he gets his job done and he gets out. But that vault, it is an

:46:09.:46:16.

incredible vault and his high bar, he has upgraded that, that was known

:46:17.:46:23.

as one of his weaker pieces. But as an all-round gymnast you don't have

:46:24.:46:27.

a weak past. What is he like? He is a lovely kid. As a competitor? He is

:46:28.:46:32.

one that you don't want to go up against. He is consistent and he

:46:33.:46:37.

loves it. As soon as he gets in front of the crowd and he has

:46:38.:46:40.

Olympic and world and Commonwealth Games experience he know what is it

:46:41.:46:45.

takes to be on the rostrum. He has been talking about being right up

:46:46.:46:51.

there with the best, how good is he? I saw him as a junior in 2010 and he

:46:52.:47:02.

had something special and his lines within gymnastics, they're just

:47:03.:47:07.

incredible. He has that attention to every detail. He is not just happy

:47:08.:47:10.

to go through a routine. He wants to go through a routine with

:47:11.:47:14.

perfection. That is what you need to be at the top. The viewers are

:47:15.:47:20.

loving Max. He is trending on Twitter and has a flock of new

:47:21.:47:32.

female followers. Earlier he hadn't made a thousand Voller -- followers.

:47:33.:47:40.

But now it has rocketed. Well done to Max and Team England. A silver

:47:41.:47:45.

for Scotland. Let's hear from them. Dan, you look you came and did a

:47:46.:47:52.

good job? Yes, we thought we had the potential, we were hoping to be the

:47:53.:48:00.

first team to get a medal and we have a silver. What was your

:48:01.:48:08.

experience? It has been fantastic, coming out of retirement, the crowd

:48:09.:48:12.

was unbelievable. Js to be part of the team, these boys are so good,

:48:13.:48:17.

I'm honoured to be part of it and so pleased we did so well. It is

:48:18.:48:28.

deafening, there was a roar, from the crowd, what was that like, after

:48:29.:48:33.

coming back from a broken back? Obvious ly, the crowd helps you.

:48:34.:48:38.

They keep on cheering you, no matter what happens, you can have a fall,

:48:39.:48:44.

but they stir you back on to do a clean routine. It gives you a lot of

:48:45.:48:51.

energy and focus. We saw you grimacing, were you disappointed at

:48:52.:48:55.

times? Yes, I was disappointed, because I wanted to come out and do

:48:56.:49:01.

some clean routines for my first major Championships, I cannot be too

:49:02.:49:05.

disappointed, I'm in with a great team and the guys have done well and

:49:06.:49:09.

to be part of a silver medal winning team for the first time in Scottish

:49:10.:49:19.

history is amazing. You have done brilliantly and Dan, pipped to it by

:49:20.:49:25.

your Team GB team mates? Yes, they're a strong team. But before

:49:26.:49:29.

coming out, we wanted to get that team medal and that is what we did.

:49:30.:49:34.

To compete on home soil it was so much fun. I really enjoyed it. It

:49:35.:49:38.

felt like a flash back to the Olympics. You were saying there is a

:49:39.:49:42.

lot of bant we are the English team who, will take home the bragging

:49:43.:49:46.

rights, do you think it will be unbearable? I don't think so, we are

:49:47.:49:51.

all friends and training together has been fun. It has been a

:49:52.:49:56.

different experience and pushes that much further and we enjoyed it. Well

:49:57.:50:02.

done. I bet the English team will be telling the Scotland team all about

:50:03.:50:07.

that. It is an amazing storey, Scotland have been on the front and

:50:08.:50:12.

back pages of newspapers, but this is a remarkable story, because

:50:13.:50:17.

Scotland didn't enter a team in 2010. Yes it is history and Delhi

:50:18.:50:26.

they didn't even send a Teme team. A-- a team. In 2002 they didn't have

:50:27.:50:31.

a chance of a medal. They weren't in that mind set. They were going do

:50:32.:50:38.

their own personal bit. And great to see Daniel Keatings back? Yes the

:50:39.:50:43.

fact he has finished that and hopefully will be in the all-round

:50:44.:50:47.

final and he has a couple of other finals. The pommel final will be

:50:48.:50:54.

exciting. That is the men's team and now the women's team final. Who is

:50:55.:50:59.

your money on? England are going in with a 1.5 mark lead and if they can

:51:00.:51:05.

keep it waum and -- calm and steady, we should take the gold. But you

:51:06.:51:09.

never know and the crowd will be cheering the England team on. Do you

:51:10.:51:12.

wish you were there? I watched them yesterday and I raced back to see

:51:13.:51:16.

bars and I thought I would feel a bit, oh, I wish I was there, but I

:51:17.:51:22.

thought, great for them, I am glad I haven't had to do all that work! And

:51:23.:51:28.

the team is in such a healthy state. That has made my job to step aside

:51:29.:51:37.

easier. Thank you. Beth won gold in Manchester in 2002 at the age of 17.

:51:38.:51:52.

This is her story. For me, gymnastics was the closest I was

:51:53.:52:00.

going to get to flying. I was very shy at school, but as soon as I

:52:01.:52:05.

stepped out on to the gymnastics floor, that shyness disappeared and

:52:06.:52:13.

I came into my own. As a young kid, I think I was a nightmare. I had far

:52:14.:52:19.

too much energy. I wanted to be moving, I didn't want to just sit

:52:20.:52:25.

and watch TV and my mum thought, what are we going to do to channel

:52:26.:52:32.

this energy? I wouldn't say I was naturally talented, I could do some

:52:33.:52:35.

of the stuff and I picked up things, but I was willing to work and I

:52:36.:52:39.

loved the challenge. If somebody said you would never do that, it was

:52:40.:52:45.

a case of, I will show you I can do that. You can tell where your feet

:52:46.:52:51.

come off. For the first year, I just did it for fun and went on a couple

:52:52.:52:56.

of times a week and then the coaches sort of said, we like what we see

:52:57.:53:01.

here, we would love her to go to the elite side and that is when it

:53:02.:53:05.

became serious and I started doing five days a week, 20 hours a week

:53:06.:53:11.

and to be hobbest -- honest if school wasn't in the way I would

:53:12.:53:16.

have been there 24/7. Do not miss the chalk. One thing. However much

:53:17.:53:22.

you had a shower, it was still in your hands. I was never a kid that

:53:23.:53:30.

dreamt of becoming a big jibbing nas, I just -- gymnast, I just

:53:31.:53:35.

wanting the challenge and the results just kept getting better and

:53:36.:53:48.

better. I did the Europeans in April and then there was the Commonwealth

:53:49.:53:53.

Games throughout the summer of 2002. Obviously all eyes had been on this,

:53:54.:53:58.

it was going to be in Manchester, it was the closest I would ever get to

:53:59.:54:05.

competing in my home town and it was a very special time. As soon as you

:54:06.:54:09.

walked to the apparatus and started to go up the steps, the roar was

:54:10.:54:17.

unbelievable. We weren't used to being high-profile and people know

:54:18.:54:21.

your name and who you were. I remember after the qualification we

:54:22.:54:25.

walked out and there was people shouting and screaming your name,

:54:26.:54:29.

asking for autographs. It was a surreal moment and then that whole

:54:30.:54:35.

competition, it wouldn't -- couldn't have gone any better for me. Now the

:54:36.:54:44.

European bronze medallist, Beth Tweddle of England. This is the

:54:45.:54:49.

piece she wants. Have to keep control. Up to the dismount. Lovely

:54:50.:54:54.

and high. Beautiful twist. I remember doing the bar final and as

:54:55.:55:00.

soon as I landed, I had the biggest smile on my face. To come home with

:55:01.:55:09.

two silvers and a gold, I was only 17 and I didn't realise how much of

:55:10.:55:17.

an impact that was going to have. People ask me to pick one moment

:55:18.:55:21.

from my career that I treasure and you can't pick one moment. For me

:55:22.:55:26.

there is three moments. One was London, because it took me 20 years

:55:27.:55:33.

and it was the last moment of my career. It has been a long wait for

:55:34.:55:37.

a medal. The other was winning the fist world title in 2006. The third

:55:38.:55:47.

is the Commonwealth Games. It was a special moment. That is a truly

:55:48.:55:54.

inspirational story. We have been a bit cruel, we didn't tell her we

:55:55.:55:58.

were going to run that film. But great memories there and British

:55:59.:56:04.

gymnastics is in such a good place, because of you. What do you think

:56:05.:56:08.

when you look back? You know, I still don't realise what I did. I

:56:09.:56:13.

did gymnastics, because I loved it. Every day from the age of even I

:56:14.:56:16.

kept going through that door with a smile on my face. Even my coach,

:56:17.:56:22.

Amanda, she admitted I didn't necessarily have something special,

:56:23.:56:27.

I was just willing ing to work and I was determined. You were also a keen

:56:28.:56:32.

swimmer, at which age did you realise that it was gymnastics for

:56:33.:56:37.

you and not swimming? I did both up to the age of seven or eight and

:56:38.:56:42.

then they started to clash and there was no doubt that gymnastics was the

:56:43.:56:48.

No 1. Participation numbers right across the board in the UK have gone

:56:49.:56:53.

up since London 2012. That is a remarkable change around isn't it?

:56:54.:56:58.

Yes, there is so many of us doing so well now. You have Lewis Smith and

:56:59.:57:03.

Daniel Purvis and Daniel Keatings, you can't just name one. There is so

:57:04.:57:07.

many. It helps the younger kids that they have that sort of role model to

:57:08.:57:12.

lack up to and they think, we have seen them training in the gym, they

:57:13.:57:17.

only work hard, it is nothing special. Why can't we do it? That

:57:18.:57:22.

will always help. Across the UK there are many other sports. We talk

:57:23.:57:27.

about football and rugby and cricket, but my children go to

:57:28.:57:32.

gymnastics on a Sunday morning and the place is full. I think London

:57:33.:57:38.

2012 and Glasgow 2014 has done wonders for British sport. You know

:57:39.:57:42.

about the football, cricket, rugby, but it is show casing the lesser

:57:43.:57:49.

known sports whether it is bowls or gymnastics, there is so many aspects

:57:50.:57:54.

and I believe every child has their calling. I did so many sports before

:57:55.:58:03.

I found gym mas ticks. -- gym mas ticks -- gymnastics. And you can

:58:04.:58:07.

find out more information on our web-site. And see how Matt Baker got

:58:08.:58:19.

involved in the sport. Thank you Beth. I have a bit of breaking news.

:58:20.:58:28.

A 16-year-old Nigerian weightlifter has failed a doping test after

:58:29.:58:35.

become the youngest female to win a Commonwealth Games medal. She has

:58:36.:58:39.

been suspended after testing positive after winning the 53

:58:40.:58:44.

kilogram gold on Friday. More on that during the day. Now to the

:58:45.:58:52.

wonderful scenes here in Glasgow in the mountain biking. This has been a

:58:53.:58:57.

terrific event. Beautiful scenery there. A testing course, we have had

:58:58.:59:02.

the women's mountain biking. Now it is the men. That is on BBC 3 if you

:59:03.:59:09.

fancy some live mountain biking. We have been at the Hydro in Glasgow

:59:10.:59:15.

and the noisy neighbours at the SECC are making lots of noise this

:59:16.:59:19.

afternoon. Because over there now it is the boxing, a passionate crowd at

:59:20.:59:24.

the best of times. Fantastic support and for Scottish boxers, but the

:59:25.:59:30.

crowd welcoming the boxer from around the world and some tasty

:59:31.:59:42.

bouts this afternoon. Reece McFadden from Motherwell has been one of the

:59:43.:59:46.

standout performers at the boxing so far, highlighted by that victory

:59:47.:59:49.

over Charlie Edwards of England, but with every round that goes by, the

:59:50.:59:54.

pace quickens, the intensity increases, and Oteng Oteng, a bronze

:59:55.:00:00.

medallist in Delhi, will be a tough task this afternoon. Richie

:00:01.:00:05.

Woodhall, how tough? Yeah, it will be a tough contest in against an

:00:06.:00:11.

experienced guy, but he has the confidence of beating the world

:00:12.:00:15.

number one. These guy is the limit for McFadden. I have been impressed

:00:16.:00:21.

with his attitude, raising the tempo, raising his performance

:00:22.:00:24.

level, and he can beat this fella. He has had two hard fights, and on

:00:25.:00:30.

paper you would have thought Edwards would beat him, who knows how far he

:00:31.:00:36.

can go? When you are 19, remember, you were once! Is there almost the

:00:37.:00:42.

folly of youth, you just think, I can do this? Absolutely, he is on

:00:43.:00:49.

home soil, the crowd behind him, and some kids are nervous, but this

:00:50.:00:54.

fella, no nerves in him at all, which is really good. At 19 years of

:00:55.:00:59.

age, that is probably his greatest strength, not fazed by the occasion.

:01:00.:01:04.

Long that may continue. Let's see how he got on.

:01:05.:01:11.

The opening bell sounds in this flyweight quarterfinal between

:01:12.:01:17.

boxers from Scotland and Botswana, the man wearing red, operating out

:01:18.:01:22.

of the southpaw stance, has gate-crashed the senior

:01:23.:01:24.

international scene of boxing, elite Olympic boxing, with some

:01:25.:01:29.

eye-catching performances in the opening two rounds of the

:01:30.:01:32.

Commonwealth Games boxing tournament, Scotland's Reece

:01:33.:01:36.

McFadden. His opponent in blue, ranked 30th in the world, reigning

:01:37.:01:41.

bronze medallist at flyweight from Delhi four years ago, Oteng Oteng

:01:42.:01:43.

from Botswana. Just listen to the support that

:01:44.:01:55.

McFadden is receiving. Botswana have got a sizeable contingent in the

:01:56.:02:00.

crowd as well here at the SECC, as McFadden takes a good right hand

:02:01.:02:06.

over the top from Oteng. But he is so quick, McFadden, that sometimes

:02:07.:02:10.

even when he is caught, his hand speed allows him to get through with

:02:11.:02:17.

shots of his own. One of his strengths is his elusiveness, he

:02:18.:02:22.

stays very small, create a small target, sitting on the back foot,

:02:23.:02:25.

southpaw, he waits, and as is opponent comes, like Andrew Selby in

:02:26.:02:31.

that first contest, a terrific performance, but Selby, as he was

:02:32.:02:34.

moving away, that is what McFadden does, and then he springs and attack

:02:35.:02:41.

as you are moving away from him. Very quick hands, very quick feet,

:02:42.:02:45.

and of those tactics have worked tremendously well in the first two

:02:46.:02:51.

contests that he has had. The first two contests have been upset of

:02:52.:02:54.

considerable proportions, beating the world number one, Andrew Selby,

:02:55.:03:00.

in his opening bout, a bout where Selby was Dr points for the

:03:01.:03:03.

mouthpiece continually falling out of his mouth. -- docked. Take

:03:04.:03:09.

nothing away from McFadden's performance. In the second round of

:03:10.:03:15.

the tournament, he beat England and Great Britain's Charlie Edwards,

:03:16.:03:22.

another GB podium boxer. So he has had huge success against home

:03:23.:03:28.

nations boxers, and boxers of better experience. No respect of the

:03:29.:03:29.

nations boxers, and boxers of better experience. No respect reputations

:03:30.:03:33.

of the men he has been facing, and this SECC crowd are really pumped

:03:34.:03:40.

up, the intensity and focus, and he has delivered some breathtaking

:03:41.:03:41.

performances. He is has delivered some breathtaking

:03:42.:03:44.

performances. one win away from a place on the Commonwealth Games

:03:45.:03:49.

medal roster, something that Oteng Oteng experienced in Delhi four

:03:50.:03:54.

years ago. He had a bye in the first round and then had a stoppage win

:03:55.:03:55.

over Ricardo Blackman. Right hands whipped in underneath

:03:56.:04:11.

from Oteng. The bell sounds. An irrepressible character, really, he

:04:12.:04:18.

has got a graze. I don't know how that significance in terms

:04:19.:04:24.

has got a graze. I don't know how whether it will get worse in the

:04:25.:04:30.

contest. Some fast counters here from McFadden. I didn't think it was

:04:31.:04:35.

too bad a round at all. Oteng missed the target, often with the right

:04:36.:04:40.

hand, could not get too, then back comes McFadden. A clever tactic.

:04:41.:04:45.

Look at that shot from McFadden, he throws the branches in threes and

:04:46.:04:49.

fours. Let's have a look at the schools. They have all gone for

:04:50.:04:55.

McFadden, yeah, I agree with that. McFadden taking the opening round in

:04:56.:05:00.

unanimous fashion. The graze is just above the right eyebrow, the corner

:05:01.:05:05.

applying the petroleum jelly. Not leading any blood visibly at the

:05:06.:05:09.

moment, but that is something that McFadden will be looking to cover up

:05:10.:05:14.

and prevent from getting worse during because of this contest. What

:05:15.:05:20.

he does very well, wrong, is waiting on the back foot, but now and again

:05:21.:05:25.

he will counterattack. He will wait for the opponents delayed and then

:05:26.:05:28.

quickly accelerate, beat him to the punch, and that keeps the judges

:05:29.:05:38.

happy. They cease on going forward now and again, but the majority of

:05:39.:05:43.

the tiny sits on the back foot. -- base eats someone. That is why he

:05:44.:05:47.

got that first round. Oteng was not far away with a long

:05:48.:05:59.

right hand. That often determines the tactics for the remainder of the

:06:00.:06:04.

bout. Oteng of doing goes to the furthest mutual corner. -- Oteng

:06:05.:06:12.

Oteng. Some repairs to the waistband on the trunks of McFadden.

:06:13.:06:20.

It is a shame, because just before that, Ronald, the pace was suiting

:06:21.:06:27.

McFadden, he slowed it down, making Oteng weight, trying to come

:06:28.:06:31.

forward, and that suits McFadden - he can see the attacks coming

:06:32.:06:36.

forward. This fella in blue, the attacks are too slow, McFadden is

:06:37.:06:42.

doing really well. Brilliant from McFadden, quickness of feet and of

:06:43.:06:45.

thought as well, and he is continuing to grow under the ring

:06:46.:06:52.

lights here in terms of confidence. A hugely experienced man in front of

:06:53.:06:57.

him, Olympian from London 2012, two time participant in the World

:06:58.:07:02.

Championships, Oteng Oteng, losing in the second preliminary round on

:07:03.:07:07.

both occasions. So plenty of global experience, McFadden acquitting

:07:08.:07:11.

himself brilliantly once again. Sneaky left hand got through from

:07:12.:07:15.

McFadden, got himself back, staying close to centre ring, operating off

:07:16.:07:19.

the ropes, relying on his quickness to, the better. Coming back with

:07:20.:07:26.

threes and fours, not just singles from McFadden. We have seen it time

:07:27.:07:30.

and again, a box on the back foot boxing well, but the judges do not

:07:31.:07:35.

like that style anymore. It is changing, this game is, you have got

:07:36.:07:40.

to be able to do them both, on the back foot but then push your

:07:41.:07:46.

opponent back. He did just there, exemplifying that tactic, sitting

:07:47.:07:50.

back on the ropes. Again, the best of McFadden coming out of his

:07:51.:07:53.

trance! Michael Keane in action once more. -- trunks. A little bit more

:07:54.:08:02.

blood coming out of that cut on his left eye, he will just have to watch

:08:03.:08:07.

that. We are inside the final minute of the second round, McFadden took

:08:08.:08:12.

the opening round in unanimous fashion. The reigning national

:08:13.:08:16.

champion at 52 kilograms, only 19 years of age, the man from

:08:17.:08:22.

Motherwell. And here he is, sitting in the corner once more, looking to

:08:23.:08:26.

lay that trap and use that commend us quickness to score effectively

:08:27.:08:31.

off the ropes. Oteng Oteng loses his balance, and look how quickly

:08:32.:08:36.

McFadden wanted to capitalise, in a flash, leading to macro shots go.

:08:37.:08:42.

Yeah, it is important, you have got to have fast reactions, faster

:08:43.:08:46.

reflexes, but he has got them. He does not need to be square on the

:08:47.:08:50.

ropes, but such a tricky little man to nail down, a frustrating boxer to

:08:51.:08:59.

box against, and that is probably his strength, to frustrate the

:09:00.:09:01.

opponent, make him make mistakes, then he goes back at him. The bell,

:09:02.:09:06.

a spring heeled walk back to the red corner for Reece McFadden, another

:09:07.:09:10.

strong performance. But that cut, oh, my goodness! That appears to

:09:11.:09:15.

have gotten worse, there is a smear of blood which I thought was the

:09:16.:09:19.

eyebrow opening up, but it has got a little bit deeper. They will have to

:09:20.:09:23.

get to work on that. That is when he jumped on Oteng Oteng when he lost

:09:24.:09:28.

his balance. I think he may have stepped on his foot, then pushing

:09:29.:09:33.

him back. Yuna what? Let's have a look at these schools, yeah! Two

:09:34.:09:40.

judges to one, clever boxing by McFadden, frustrating his opponent,

:09:41.:09:41.

finding a way to win these rounds. Oteng Oteng looking to retain at

:09:42.:09:55.

least the bronze medal he picked up in Delhi four years ago, but facing

:09:56.:10:01.

a deficit here against a compact, clever boxer, Reece McFadden from

:10:02.:10:05.

Scotland. Into the third and final round, McFadden looking to continue

:10:06.:10:11.

this fairy tale run that has been bought by his boxing brilliance here

:10:12.:10:16.

and Glasgow 2014. He has beaten the world number one, AGB

:10:17.:10:19.

representative, and here he is facing the 30th ranked boxer in the

:10:20.:10:23.

world, the highest ranked flyweight after Andrew Selby in the

:10:24.:10:28.

tournament. Launch day long left hook, Oteng Oteng from Botswana, and

:10:29.:10:32.

in the opening two rounds, McFadden executing his game plan brilliantly.

:10:33.:10:38.

Limbs intertwining, twisting, as the boxers tumbled to the canvas, but

:10:39.:10:42.

both up instantly. There does not appear to be any leg injury, or one

:10:43.:10:48.

that limits the mobility of McFadden, that would be a serious

:10:49.:10:52.

impediment to a boxer who relies on his legs as heavily as he does. Just

:10:53.:10:58.

a counterattack there, just stepping in. He gets caught there. He has got

:10:59.:11:04.

to stay concentrated, you must concentrate fully now. Coming to a

:11:05.:11:09.

part of the contest where his opponent will really commit himself

:11:10.:11:13.

with that right hand, there it is, look. McFadden has got to

:11:14.:11:17.

concentrate now. McFadden evaded most of the right hands, that long

:11:18.:11:22.

right cross from Oteng Oteng did get home. We are at the midway point of

:11:23.:11:27.

this third and final round, backfired on took the opening two

:11:28.:11:32.

rounds, in unanimous fashion, then from two of the three judges. --

:11:33.:11:37.

McFadden Coke. Beyond this midway point now, Oteng Oteng increasingly

:11:38.:11:43.

looking for one shot to bring about a finish. He will be aware of the

:11:44.:11:47.

fact that he is trailing in the contest. Remember, he is a stoppage

:11:48.:11:53.

win in his second round bout after receiving a bye in the opening

:11:54.:11:57.

round, so he does possess a fair did. McFadden will have to watch

:11:58.:12:01.

that. It is important for McFadden to work on the inside now, getting

:12:02.:12:06.

these opportunities. It is a stalemate, nothing really landing,

:12:07.:12:11.

so he has to end of the sequence may be on the hook, but two or three

:12:12.:12:16.

shots on the inside. At this stage, Oteng going forward, looking to

:12:17.:12:21.

score the odd shot here and there. It is not decisive, but at the end

:12:22.:12:25.

of the day McFadden has got to work a little bit harder on the inside

:12:26.:12:31.

just to finish this contest off. Inside the final 30 seconds,

:12:32.:12:35.

McFadden bearing his gumshield and grinning, the work in this round has

:12:36.:12:37.

not been as clean or grinning, the work in this round has

:12:38.:12:41.

the Scottish boxer. Having said that, Oteng Oteng really having

:12:42.:12:46.

the Scottish boxer. Having said difficult time landing cleanly on

:12:47.:12:52.

this compact, elusive little boxer. Falling short once again, both

:12:53.:12:55.

boxers will hear the ten second clapper, a furious finish, McFadden

:12:56.:13:00.

in an exchange, getting onto the front foot and driving Oteng Oteng

:13:01.:13:06.

backwards towards the ropes. Oteng raises his hand, but more in hope

:13:07.:13:12.

than expectation, I suspect. A familiar celebration for McFadden

:13:13.:13:17.

now, taking a bow, and acknowledging the vocal support that he is

:13:18.:13:21.

receiving from the crowd here at the SECC, a true reflection of the

:13:22.:13:26.

outcome of that bout, I think. Oteng Oteng knows his Commonwealth Games

:13:27.:13:29.

is coming to an end and that Reece McFadden will be the one going

:13:30.:13:34.

through to the medal stages. Another good performance by McFadden, just

:13:35.:13:38.

finishing the round very strong, probably lost the round by a couple

:13:39.:13:43.

of judges, I would say. The work was not as clean as in the first two,

:13:44.:13:48.

but nevertheless he is the contest very well. He thinks he has won it,

:13:49.:13:53.

so do we, and what a story this is for this young fellow. Ladies and

:13:54.:14:03.

gentlemen, what a fantastic contest, your appreciation for both boxers.
