Hello again on another sun drenched day at the Medinah country club on

the outskirts of Chicago. What a stage for the most thrilling of

sporting contests, the Ryder Cup, a contest that Europe has dominated

over the last 20 years. On the opening day of this year's contest,

unquestionably the dominant force their performances. Europe and

their captain thankful for a stunning debut for Nicolas

Colsaerts for scrambling a match. think that last point was very

important for us. To go 3-1 instead of three-and-a-half and half a

point, that would have been a big blow for us. Now obviously we're

trailing two points behind, but tomorrow we're playing for eight

points and eights' see if we can catch up. Perhaps some blue sky

thinking needed by captain Olazabel and the inspiration for that was

written large for him early in the morning. He and his side hoping to

recall the no quitting Seve spirit. The United States led after the

opening day seven times since 1979 and have won the cup three times.

Much depends on Saturday's matches. This was the look of the morning

Luke Donald tasked with declailing that runaway train. The unflappable

Jason Dufner and Zac Johnson have notched up one victory. But can

Nicolas Colsaerts continue his mesmerising form with Sergio Garcia.

described it as a verbal lashing from captain Olazabel. Poulter did

if you can get the half, that is a victory. If the first two matches

can get a half and the other get the big trees, that would be a

Donald, Garcia match. This from Luke Donald was a stellar approach

at the short 17th particularly in response to what tiger had produced.

Tiger had a gorgeous shot. The beauty of Luke Donald's, his was to

the right of the hole, slightly more uphill. A marvellous shot. It

cut over the water. Club selection very tricky. Two crackers. The last

hour, great for Europeans, but obviously, particularly the morning

and particularly from that pairing of Keagan Bradley and Phil

Mickelson, once again, completely unbeatable. At times unplayable.

It's been remarkable stuff. They've gelled together. Mickelson in his

ninth Ryder Cup. Played in more Ryder Cups that anyone else. Time

and again they came up with some magic. Once you get a run on this

game, a golf course that suits Mickelson, they've looked

unstoppable. Keagan Bradley has putted magnificently. These are

tricky greens, big slopes, awkward pin positions. You have to admire

Phil Mickelson, because he has struggled with partners over the

last few Ryder Cups. He seems to have found someone bringing the

best out in him. They got off to a terrific start. They've won the

three matches they've played in. It's one of those weeks where

everything goes right for you. When it's going right for your opponents,

it make it's difficult for you. They have multiple victories, three

so far and counting for the two of them. Nick faldo made the point

about not enough of the European team being on form. Perhaps

underlying that four members of Olazabel's team to record a point.

Ten players continued for Davis Love. That tells its own story. As

we see the players lining up, what is the strategy, four points behind,
