Day 3 Golf: Ryder Cup

reach the unreachable stars. Europe's Ryder Cup ambitions

seamount and a possible dream but Ian Poulter inspired a new charge

to renew hope for the European team. Plenty of atmosphere here.

Well before rookies have been in blistering form. Only once in

history has that deficit been overturned. In 19991 America pulled

up the cup from behind. Now Europe are doing the chasing and their

captain believes that a good start could yet turn the tide.

The players that are playing well are up there are trying to win

their matches early. To win this Ryder Cup we need to take care of

the big players. That is what we have tomorrow.

So this is the all-important singles draw. Europe require eight

points to retain the trophy. And the first three men in the draw for

Europe must deliver to keep the contest alive. For some wonderfully

intriguing match-up us. Tiger Woods has lost all three of his matches

this week. Back to the circus that was the

first tee for the opening match. The home support in full voice but

was drama of a different kind for Rory McIlroy he had to be raced to

the course in an unmarked police car. He had mixed up his time-zones.

He just got there in time for the tee off against Keegan Bradley.

Then on Saturday, we talk about these matches. When we got together

last night, I made it very clear that we had a chance. Is it

possible to summarise what the team has achieved today? It is not!

We've really got we were going to do it. It was a great team talk

last night. The pressure was on them. We got off to a great start

and miracles happen. Last night, when we got off the golf course,

those last couple of matches were absolutely massive. We got into the

room and everybody was pumped up. We were four points down but

everybody was energised. I just thought that we had a chance. We

are within four. We knew that we were strong and we were loaded at

the front. But we were unloaded at the middle and at the back. We have

got 12 people today that have played with heart and passion which

I have not seen before. How much do you owe it to Ian Poulter? That was

very important. If we had lost any of days two matches yesterday, it

would have been impossible. But thanks to him, it goes back to

Europe. I have been through a few different things but this is

something else. Take us through your emotions and thoughts. It was

amazing. When I walk on the outside, I thought, come on, you have to get

it for the team. Just make it. Just make it. At the moment it landed

in? I have never had that feeling before, even after winning the PGA.

I am so happy for the team. It was difficult because of the way that

we had been claimed but we have got so much appreciation. It is just

amazing. He has evoked the spirit of Seve Ballesteros all week.

galvanised his team. And that is the closing ceremony taking place.

His team are walking out. That is only the third time in the history

of the European Ryder Cup that they have won on foreign soil. Jose

Maria Olazabal was playing against Justin Leonard in 1999 when the

Americans spark an invasion of the greens. They had a record come back

from 6-10 behind. And an even more dramatic turn around 13 years later.

And even better because they have done it on foreign soil. European

flags are flying high. About 3,000 supporters are here. A number of

people from Scotland as well. They were delighted for Paul Lawrie and

the with the other seven European victories. The next Ryder Cup is at

Gleneagles in 2014. And Davis Love III has been a role model here. He

has led his team with great dignity and this is a difficult defeat for

him. But he has conducted himself very well, as has his team. It has
