They've done it! They have done it! She has absolutely nailed it.

:00:54.:01:15.

Cruising to another gold medal. Great Britain are the Olympic

:01:16.:01:22.

champions! Gold! Mo Farah wins the gold!

:01:23.:01:37.

Hello and good afternoon, welcome to Rio. I think it is said to say we

:01:38.:01:42.

are into our rhythm here at the Olympics. This time next week it

:01:43.:01:47.

will all be over. But sensational Sunday will live long in the memory.

:01:48.:01:53.

What a huge variety of sports in which British athletes were

:01:54.:01:56.

successful. Max Whitlock, Justin Rose, Andy Murray, five gold medals,

:01:57.:02:05.

two to Max. I will speak to him live in a moment. We have Mark Cavendish

:02:06.:02:11.

going for gold in the velodrome and Great Britain's women in

:02:12.:02:15.

quarterfinal action in the hockey. Here are the headlines on day ten.

:02:16.:02:22.

Charlotte Dujardin and Valegro put on a sublime display to retain their

:02:23.:02:26.

individual dressage title. That is a third Olympic gold for the job done

:02:27.:02:30.

and she becomes the first British woman to six as the lead defend an

:02:31.:02:40.

individual title. There was a brilliant bronze for Sophie Hitchon,

:02:41.:02:44.

the first ever Olympic medal in the discipline of the hammer for a

:02:45.:02:50.

British woman. She broke her own record. British badminton players

:02:51.:02:59.

Marcus Ellis and Chris Langridge reach the semifinals of the men's

:03:00.:03:04.

doubles. They upset the Japanese number eight today. A medal is now

:03:05.:03:14.

within their grasp. Laura Trott began the defence of her omni and

:03:15.:03:19.

title with a solid second in the opening scratch race. In the men's's

:03:20.:03:25.

competition Mark Cavendish is in bronze medal position with two

:03:26.:03:30.

events to come later today. Here is a rough idea of what we will be up

:03:31.:03:35.

to this evening. Coming up next I will be chatting to Max Whitlock and

:03:36.:03:39.

Louis Smith. And later on Sophie Hitchon will be joining me to

:03:40.:03:44.

reflect on her bronze in the hammer. . We will show you Simone Biles

:03:45.:03:48.

going for her fourth gold in the women's beam. And then we will have

:03:49.:03:54.

the omnium flying lap. Laura Trott is at the beginning of her omnium.

:03:55.:04:00.

Cavendish finishes off with the points race. That is absolutely

:04:01.:04:01.

crucial. Then there is the elimination race

:04:02.:04:10.

which is a brilliant TV event. Then we will be starting on BBC Four for

:04:11.:04:16.

the women's hockey but finishing it on BBC One.

:04:17.:04:24.

So, yesterday, this man here became the first British gymnast to become

:04:25.:04:30.

an Olympic champion. He did not just do it once, he did it twice. This is

:04:31.:04:35.

the story of the hard work Max Whitlock has put in over years and

:04:36.:04:39.

years to get to this point of double Olympic champion. Gymnastics is

:04:40.:04:46.

pretty much my life. You have got to have a lot of commitments,

:04:47.:04:49.

determination and time spent in the gym.

:04:50.:05:17.

You cross your heart and hoped his day life, you cross your heart and

:05:18.:05:26.

hope to stay alive. Great Britain's Max Whitlock in the

:05:27.:05:33.

first of two finals for him today, going for a medal. A steely look in

:05:34.:05:35.

his eyes. Beautifully performed. That is by

:05:36.:05:55.

far the best in the world. A big 2.5 twisting somersaults backwards, into

:05:56.:06:01.

a 1.5 twist. He is taking a breath. He knows he just needs to land this

:06:02.:06:07.

tumble. Come on, makes! Five be less landing. What a performance from Max

:06:08.:06:18.

Whitlock! White apres so Great Britain's Max Whitlock is the floor

:06:19.:06:26.

Olympic champion. Max Whitlock, 23 years old. His chance now on pommel

:06:27.:06:35.

horse. Up into the move, he has done well there. Max Whitlock has done

:06:36.:06:49.

everything he can! Max Whitlock is now a double Olympic champion. It is

:06:50.:06:54.

just remarkable what we are witnessing here. It is a special age

:06:55.:07:00.

within British gymnastics and there is your man of the moment.

:07:01.:07:07.

You wonder if Max Whitlock woke up this morning, looked at those two

:07:08.:07:14.

gold medals and thought, that cannot be true! What did you think?

:07:15.:07:21.

Absolutely that. Standing here with two gold medals feels absolutely

:07:22.:07:24.

unbelievable. How would you sum up the achievement and give hope that

:07:25.:07:29.

others can follow you? It is very hard to sum it up. We are looking to

:07:30.:07:36.

inspire a generation. I have heard from my gym club back home that they

:07:37.:07:41.

have loads of requests to come and join. Hopefully, it will spur some

:07:42.:07:46.

people on. How would you keep your composure to perform as you did on

:07:47.:07:52.

the floor, not make mistakes and then perform with confidence and set

:07:53.:07:56.

a mark the rest can beat. What it is, I'm doing what I love. I trained

:07:57.:08:01.

so hard, so many hours in the gym. On the day you have one minute to

:08:02.:08:06.

show that. I think, I have done all the hard work, I'm here to enjoy it

:08:07.:08:11.

and that is what I do. It has paid off. There was an awful lot of

:08:12.:08:17.

Brazilian support in the arena because you had two resilience

:08:18.:08:20.

alongside you on the podium but this was your big finish. I was nearly

:08:21.:08:26.

there on my routine. Floor is all about your landings. You get through

:08:27.:08:33.

it. To be honest, as I finished my routine, I was not bothered about

:08:34.:08:37.

the schools, I was not watching anyone's routine, I did not know

:08:38.:08:41.

where I was placed or anything. Scott looked at me and said, you are

:08:42.:08:47.

the Olympic champion. I could not believe it! It was an unbelievable

:08:48.:08:53.

surprise. Was the waiting the worst bit of it? In the all-around final

:08:54.:08:56.

the waiting was very hard but there I did not know what was going on. I

:08:57.:09:02.

had a chance to look and see the people coming through and the high

:09:03.:09:09.

schools. It is so hard to get all six apparatus right on one day. You

:09:10.:09:13.

are fastidious in the way you prepare for things but you could not

:09:14.:09:17.

factor in winning a gold medal between your floor routine and your

:09:18.:09:22.

pommel routine so how did you reset yourself? I had to stick to the

:09:23.:09:27.

plan. The plan was floor and then pommel horse. I had to nearly forget

:09:28.:09:33.

about the gold medal I had won floor which was crazy. I could celebrate

:09:34.:09:36.

after. I look forward to pommel horse. Getting into the back gym,

:09:37.:09:42.

warming up and making sure I was ready for one more round to go. With

:09:43.:09:47.

the team competition and this, how many routines have you done? 20! I

:09:48.:09:53.

feel very proud to do that. Especially, last year was a tough

:09:54.:09:57.

year with glandular fever so I had to be a lot more clever with my

:09:58.:10:01.

training. I had never had a day off before. For my all-round final I had

:10:02.:10:05.

a day off. It was about that quick split decision

:10:06.:10:20.

between me and my coach to make sure I took what I needed and it paid

:10:21.:10:25.

off. Did you know mid-routine this was good enough? You could sort of

:10:26.:10:27.

feel when the routine was going well. I knew I had to continue it

:10:28.:10:31.

and do the best I could to finish it off well. After that, you have done

:10:32.:10:34.

your job. We came out with one and two with Louis Smith as well. We

:10:35.:10:37.

will talk to him in a minute. There are a lot of people at home who want

:10:38.:10:41.

to ask questions. William is nine years old. What is your question for

:10:42.:10:48.

Max? How old were you when you first started gymnastics? I was seven

:10:49.:10:54.

years old, I have been doing it for 16 years. Who was it who spotted

:10:55.:11:00.

your potential? Very much it was my coach. The people who supported me

:11:01.:11:05.

the whole way, my family, my fiancee now, my coach and everyone. We are

:11:06.:11:10.

lottery funded which helps our support. The whole system has been

:11:11.:11:20.

for this. I feel so, so proud. I expect you will keep going. What

:11:21.:11:26.

about you, George? Do you want to be a gymnast? No Mac pro! It is very

:11:27.:11:35.

tough. A lot of things are being named in Max's on. This pub is

:11:36.:11:40.

called the pommel horse. Have you been asked to do the official

:11:41.:11:45.

opening? I have been in there. It was nice to see posters all around

:11:46.:11:51.

it. Especially being in my hometown, it is a privilege for me. We have

:11:52.:11:54.

six days here to enjoy Rio and afterwards, we can get back, enjoy

:11:55.:11:59.

it and celebrate. I know you will reset yourself pretty quick and get

:12:00.:12:04.

back there. And challenging for medals in Tokyo as well. Well done,

:12:05.:12:10.

sensational stuff. If watching Max, Louis and the rest of the team has

:12:11.:12:14.

persuaded you to take it up, there are lots of ways you can find your

:12:15.:12:19.

local club. Go to the BBC sport website, select the sport you want

:12:20.:12:23.

to try and you can find out where your nearest club is. Maybe you will

:12:24.:12:30.

be at the Olympics in Tokyo or four years after that? And the man

:12:31.:12:34.

alongside me has won medal at his third Olympic Games, having taken

:12:35.:12:40.

third in the pommel. I know you were disappointed not to win gold, but

:12:41.:12:45.

when you reflect on what you have done, are you content? I am more

:12:46.:12:50.

than content. It is my third Olympics, 27 years old. I think back

:12:51.:12:53.

to Beijing, it seems so long ago now. To be here and alongside Max on

:12:54.:13:00.

the podium, it meant so much. Did you have to change your mind midway

:13:01.:13:05.

and do something different? Gas, I was doing for -- I was going for the

:13:06.:13:12.

harder routine but my hand had a bit of a start on the handle. By the

:13:13.:13:18.

time I got to do the hard part, I thought, calm down, get through your

:13:19.:13:24.

easy routine, let's not take on any unnecessary risks. That is what they

:13:25.:13:29.

did. Looking back, I definitely made the right decision. There was more

:13:30.:13:32.

difficulty I could have put in and makes could have put in but you

:13:33.:13:36.

cannot argue with one and two on the podium. Max held his nerve and did

:13:37.:13:42.

the better routine. I am happy. Do you think a decision like that is a

:13:43.:13:45.

sign of your experience and something you would not have done

:13:46.:13:50.

eight years ago? Yes, I definitely would have gone for it regardless.

:13:51.:13:54.

With a bit of experience and knowledge under my belt, I

:13:55.:14:02.

definitely made the right decision. I am happy. I came here, I did the

:14:03.:14:05.

routine the way I wanted to do it, and I am happy. As I came through

:14:06.:14:11.

security this morning, Lewis is a massive Harry Potter fan, I said I

:14:12.:14:16.

am from London, and they said do you know Harry Potter as if he was a

:14:17.:14:25.

person! I was checking my Twitter and JK Rowling sent me a message. I

:14:26.:14:30.

have not replied yet because I did not know what to say. I think you

:14:31.:14:36.

can say you created some magic of your own or something equally corny!

:14:37.:14:42.

I like that! I am really interested in going to Tokyo. Now I am getting

:14:43.:14:46.

older I have to listen to my body but if it allows me to, I will

:14:47.:14:52.

definitely try to get to Tokyo. Absolutely brilliant, well done you,

:14:53.:14:57.

thank you for coming to talk to us. Ladies and gentlemen, Louis Smith

:14:58.:15:02.

and Max Whitlock! Everybody last night was so excited here in Brazil

:15:03.:15:07.

and around the world to see the greatest global star in sport

:15:08.:15:11.

because Usain Bolt was trying to do something no one had ever done

:15:12.:15:15.

before, try and win the 100 metres for the third Olympics in a row.

:15:16.:15:24.

Usain Bolt, he lives and breathes Olympic titles, gathering them up as

:15:25.:15:35.

if they were daisies in a field. This is his arena, this is his

:15:36.:15:41.

stage. He is attempting to become the first athlete to win three

:15:42.:15:45.

consecutive gold medals at the same event, competing at a level which

:15:46.:15:49.

nobody else has ever done before. Look at the impact it has here and

:15:50.:15:54.

look at the impact it has around the world. Getting ready to Rumble in

:15:55.:15:57.

Rio. The Olympic 100 metre final. Justin Gelling gets away well,

:15:58.:16:12.

leaving it at the moment and charging but Usain Bolt gets it! I

:16:13.:16:20.

magnificent seven! The odyssey continues! -- a magnificent seven!

:16:21.:16:25.

Listen to the noise in Rio de Janeiro! Listened to the adulation.

:16:26.:16:45.

Look at the love for this man. The triple triple is on! And that really

:16:46.:16:50.

did create lightning around the world. These the most searched track

:16:51.:16:59.

and field athletes since 2004. Usain Bolt is out in front on his own and

:17:00.:17:03.

last night the searches for Lightning Bolt pose increased by

:17:04.:17:05.

3300%. It wasn't just the 100 metres that

:17:06.:17:23.

caused a wave last night, the 400 metres as well, and if you haven't

:17:24.:17:29.

had a chance to see if here it is in Cobra, described by Andrew Cotter.

:17:30.:17:32.

COMMENTATOR: Our way they go. LaShawn Merritt will hunt them down

:17:33.:17:42.

and Kirani James with that loose limbed final... Wayde van Niekerk...

:17:43.:17:54.

LaShawn Merritt so close to Kirani James already. It's surely between

:17:55.:18:00.

these three. It's these three men, three abreast, Wayde van Niekerk,

:18:01.:18:09.

can he hold on? Three men and the gold medal waiting for one! Wayde

:18:10.:18:15.

van Niekerk takes it! And it is a new world record! 43.03,

:18:16.:18:24.

extraordinary inside the Olympic Stadium in Rio de Janeiro and

:18:25.:18:29.

Michael Johnson's record has gone, Olympic gold and the fastest 400

:18:30.:18:31.

metres of all time. STUDIO

:18:32.:18:41.

And that world record of Michael Johnson had stood for 17 years.

:18:42.:18:45.

South Africa's Wayde van Niekerk breaking it with a new time of

:18:46.:18:51.

43.03. This was Johnson's reaction. The worst part of it when you had a

:18:52.:18:56.

world record broken is everyone else's reaction and you're trying to

:18:57.:19:01.

make them calm down and convince them that everything is OK, I'm OK,

:19:02.:19:06.

I haven't lost anything and I haven't lost anyone. I've never

:19:07.:19:09.

walked up to anyone and introduced myself as the world record holder,

:19:10.:19:13.

so nothing changes in my life today. I think the difference from people

:19:14.:19:17.

who have never broken a world record and never held one to someone who

:19:18.:19:22.

has come perspective is different. As a world record holder, what's

:19:23.:19:26.

important about it and significant to you is having accomplished it,

:19:27.:19:30.

having worked for so many years trying to chase that record and

:19:31.:19:35.

break it, and all of the people who have helped and supported you in

:19:36.:19:37.

that ambition and then finally accomplishing it. That memory I will

:19:38.:19:42.

have forever and that doesn't change and that doesn't go away, you don't

:19:43.:19:47.

lose that once the record is broken. Brilliant words from Michael

:19:48.:19:52.

Johnson. This has been an Olympics of unexpected delight, allowing

:19:53.:19:58.

lesser-known sports to shine such as hammer. A discipline in which

:19:59.:20:02.

Britain has only ever won one medal, back in 1924. She broke her own

:20:03.:20:13.

British record with a throw of 79 -- 75 .54 metres and that was good

:20:14.:20:16.

enough for a bronze medal for Sophie Hitchon, wonderful news. That only

:20:17.:20:24.

happened this morning and Sophie is with me now in the Olympic Park.

:20:25.:20:27.

What a huge moment for you, well done. Thank you so much. I enjoy

:20:28.:20:32.

myself so much and it was and expect -- an amazing experience. You must

:20:33.:20:38.

have done. To do your very best, amazing when it works out with a

:20:39.:20:42.

medal as well. Yes, training has been going really well but to

:20:43.:20:49.

execute it is even more difficult. A medal and a PB, I couldn't be

:20:50.:20:54.

happier. You have your medal ceremony tonight? Yes, 10:30pm, I

:20:55.:21:01.

got a bit of time to prepare! As a child I know you were a ballet

:21:02.:21:05.

dancer, how did you make your way from that to hammer? I did ballet

:21:06.:21:09.

for a feud years when I was younger, never to an elite level but I think

:21:10.:21:13.

it definitely helps me do what I do now. I'm very thankful for that. You

:21:14.:21:18.

may not have seen these shots yet but we had a camera on you after you

:21:19.:21:22.

realised you'd got a bronze medal and this is your reaction! I think

:21:23.:21:26.

there was a little bit of a dance in a minute!

:21:27.:21:30.

CHUCKLES Have you actually managed to duck to

:21:31.:21:35.

anyone back home? Not really, I talked to my dad for about five

:21:36.:21:39.

seconds before he said there were a lot of media outside and he didn't

:21:40.:21:44.

really talk! My family are at home and that is my coach, very excited!

:21:45.:21:50.

Thank him so much for that. I love that! Yeah, I was over the moon and

:21:51.:21:56.

I can't thank my coach enough. There's been so many people involved

:21:57.:22:01.

in this medal and the National Lottery and all the players just

:22:02.:22:03.

having the support of that is amazing. Everyone back home, I can't

:22:04.:22:10.

thank everyone enough. Do you feel this is just the beginning of

:22:11.:22:13.

something huge for you? Are you gaining in confidence? Can you move

:22:14.:22:20.

on and go for more championships? Definitely, I want to go to Tokyo

:22:21.:22:26.

2020 and I've got London and the Championships next year. I can't

:22:27.:22:29.

wait for the time coming ahead and hopefully I can just increase my PB

:22:30.:22:34.

and see what happens. Do you feel that you are feeding off the success

:22:35.:22:37.

of the other British athletes? Is there any buoyant mood in the camp?

:22:38.:22:42.

Yes, everyone is really excited about everyone, everyone is doing so

:22:43.:22:46.

well. Like you said, everyone does feed off that and it's a great

:22:47.:22:50.

atmosphere in the village and the Team GB block. We're very excited.

:22:51.:22:56.

We hope there is a lot more to come. Maybe later in the week? Yes, we got

:22:57.:23:02.

Jade going in the distance -- in the discus and then three men in the

:23:03.:23:07.

hammer qualification so hopefully we can see that. You have inspired the

:23:08.:23:22.

headlines back home, it's Hammer Time etc. It so Eddie been hugely

:23:23.:23:27.

successful for the British team in the cycling, we've Mark Cavendish

:23:28.:23:40.

and Laura Trott in the omnium, and something that can often happen in

:23:41.:23:43.

the track and individual sprint races is a stand-off, where one

:23:44.:23:48.

rider or both riders actually get to a stationary position on the track,

:23:49.:23:52.

to make someone else make their move, so that is Becky in behind.

:23:53.:23:57.

This is what happened when they eventually got going.

:23:58.:23:59.

They take the bell this time. Becky James coming down nicely. Riding

:24:00.:24:19.

tactically well but look at the acceleration by James into the

:24:20.:24:22.

slipstream. Closing the gap quickly, coming off the time and Becky James

:24:23.:24:28.

just squeezing home. Certainly given a bit of a fright. She delivered a

:24:29.:24:34.

second surprise, the same as the rapid charge where she performed

:24:35.:24:37.

like her former self, not seen for some time, and Becky James clearly

:24:38.:24:45.

won the match but not quite as easy as the seething suggested it should

:24:46.:24:50.

be. Her opponent had certainly brought some good form to these

:24:51.:24:53.

Olympic Games but Becky James safely through to the quarterfinals. Katie

:24:54.:24:57.

Marchand on track next. We haven't seen one of these, have

:24:58.:25:19.

we, Marchant caught napping and look at the size of the gap she has to

:25:20.:25:27.

try and close! Katy Marchant fighting her way back, the gap is

:25:28.:25:34.

now closing and look at this ride from Katy Marchant, closing in on

:25:35.:25:37.

the German rider and overtaking her on the finishing straight! Katy

:25:38.:25:44.

Marchant was really tested there by an unexpected early spring from the

:25:45.:25:48.

German rider. She had to dig deep and sprint for a long way round but

:25:49.:25:51.

she had more than enough to cope with it. Just for a few seconds

:25:52.:25:57.

Marchant was thinking, pulling forwards and that element of

:25:58.:26:00.

surprise was all that she could use, but what a turn of speed in the end

:26:01.:26:06.

by Marchant. Double Olympic champion Victoria Pendleton is with me now,

:26:07.:26:10.

enjoying the Breeze! A real contrast in races, showing you what can

:26:11.:26:14.

actually go wrong, although they both won this morning to meet you

:26:15.:26:18.

can never be relaxed about it? You can never be complacent because it's

:26:19.:26:21.

one manoeuvre, you look over the wrong shoulder or slightly lose your

:26:22.:26:25.

line for one second and it could really turn the result over. Both

:26:26.:26:28.

their opponents this morning should have been quite straightforward

:26:29.:26:35.

matches, and I think you saw Miriam Welte from Germany go for a long

:26:36.:26:40.

ride to try and catch Katy Marchant down. In terms of the way they are

:26:41.:26:44.

both cycling and dealing with the difference in tactics, it's amazing

:26:45.:26:48.

when you watch this, you think Katy Marchant is never going to get

:26:49.:26:51.

there? As soon as she gets into the slipstream, as a cyclist you know

:26:52.:26:55.

that's it. This kind of ride happens once in a blue moon and you can't be

:26:56.:27:00.

caught out by it. A lot of people asked me why don't you go from them

:27:01.:27:04.

whistle, and it's like, three laps is a way to sprint. Because the

:27:05.:27:09.

programme is so spread out in the Olympics, they've got time to

:27:10.:27:13.

recover. Usually it's over one day and here it's over three. Do you

:27:14.:27:17.

think we will see Becky James and Katy Marchant against each other in

:27:18.:27:20.

the gold medal race eventually? I think it's quite likely we will see

:27:21.:27:24.

them in the semifinals and hopefully going head-to-head in the final.

:27:25.:27:28.

They were very strong. Those two almost upsets will have woken them

:27:29.:27:33.

up a bit. They can't afford to let that happen again. The person who

:27:34.:27:36.

makes the fewest mistakes wins the sprint competition. They're both

:27:37.:27:40.

looking good. I certainly expect them to be the top -- to be in the

:27:41.:27:46.

top four. Tonight is a test of the all-rounders because we have got the

:27:47.:27:49.

end of the omnium and the last events for Mark Cavendish and the

:27:50.:27:54.

beginning of the omnium for Laura Trott. Cavendish was involved in

:27:55.:27:56.

something of a controversial move last night in the elimination race

:27:57.:28:01.

when he went for and undertake. Yes, you're not allowed to go behind --

:28:02.:28:07.

below the black line on the track. The last person is eliminated from

:28:08.:28:10.

the group and it was all so close, he squeezed through eight app which

:28:11.:28:13.

wasn't quite big enough, which meant he came below the black line and

:28:14.:28:17.

they decided to lemonade him early. Those are the rules he was

:28:18.:28:21.

frustrated with that top white what do you think about Laura Trott, is

:28:22.:28:25.

she going well? The first event, the scratch race, she came second.

:28:26.:28:36.

Tatsiana Sharakova from Belarus took a really early attack. Laura Trott

:28:37.:28:42.

knew she didn't have to race -- chased her down because she's not

:28:43.:28:48.

one of her main opponents, and she came first in the bunch. A very

:28:49.:28:51.

settled, confident, easy ride and she's looking very good out there.

:28:52.:28:56.

Although Victoria Pendleton is here watching the cycling, she also has a

:28:57.:29:02.

keen eye on events elsewhere because she loves her horses! And today

:29:03.:29:10.

Charlotte Dujardin was trying to defend an Olympic title.

:29:11.:29:26.

COMMENTATOR: The great Valegro and Charlotte Dujardin, the reigning

:29:27.:29:37.

Olympic champions. Can they repeat their London triumph?

:29:38.:29:46.

Here is the real test now. A brand-new floor plan, prepared for

:29:47.:29:59.

this competition, prepared to try to retain that Olympic title.

:30:00.:30:06.

I had a tear in my eye in London when it all happened and I have

:30:07.:30:23.

another one now, Scotty. I don't think there's been a better dressage

:30:24.:30:30.

at an Olympic Games ever! Wherever you are, stand up for this girl.

:30:31.:30:34.

Charlotte Dujardin with the great Valegro has done it!

:30:35.:30:38.

And with that performance, specially choreographed with music that was

:30:39.:30:43.

suitable here for Brazil, they bow out of the Olympic Games. Charlotte

:30:44.:30:53.

will be joining me in the studio to give you an idea of where you may be

:30:54.:30:56.

able to see Valegro between now and the end of the year. Good news for

:30:57.:31:01.

the sailing with this breeze. Lots going on today commission early?

:31:02.:31:06.

Well, we were hopeful there was lots going on but I suppose the

:31:07.:31:10.

conditions have been amazing until now in the sailing, we have had

:31:11.:31:13.

breeze every day, so we were due one. It is quite glassy and there is

:31:14.:31:18.

not much going on. Inside the harbour there are two classes

:31:19.:31:21.

waiting for the medal race, the double point race that will decide

:31:22.:31:25.

who stands on the top of the podium. They are the single-handed men and

:31:26.:31:29.

the single-handed women. In the men, Nick Thompson has a great chance of

:31:30.:31:32.

a bronze. They been waiting all day and it's properly last see their and

:31:33.:31:35.

I suspect that won't happen. You can see behind me the

:31:36.:31:54.

skyscrapers of Copacabana. We have Hannah Mills and Saskia Clark. They

:31:55.:31:58.

are currently in Gold medal position. They were scheduled to

:31:59.:32:02.

have three races today before their medal race. I think they will be

:32:03.:32:07.

feeling pretty nervous. It is tough conditions like this. When there are

:32:08.:32:12.

only a few not wind, it can get quite ugly. It is potentially a bit

:32:13.:32:18.

going on but I think we have to be a bit more patient.

:32:19.:32:22.

I did understand why all the wind seems to be inland but not over the

:32:23.:32:27.

sea! Hoping it picks up for you, surely. Shelley has done a sit down

:32:28.:32:32.

interview with Giles Scott whose gold medal will be confirmed

:32:33.:32:36.

tomorrow and that will be on the website -- Shirley.

:32:37.:32:40.

When Shirley was last competing at an Olympics they were Gail Emms and

:32:41.:32:46.

Nathan Robertson. They won Ed Ling badminton and there are hopes of

:32:47.:32:49.

another because there was a surprise result in the men's doubles. This is

:32:50.:33:01.

Marcus Ellis and Chris Langridge. They beat players who are ranked

:33:02.:33:06.

along way above them in the world. They have reached the semifinal of

:33:07.:33:13.

the men's doubles. That will be at 1:30pm British Summer Time. This is

:33:14.:33:18.

what Langridge had to say afterwards. It is unbelievable.

:33:19.:33:24.

Without sounding too cheesy, it shows if you put in hard work and

:33:25.:33:28.

graft away, we are not the most gifted and quickest but we work

:33:29.:33:32.

hard. The way we flowed together as a team, it shows when two people put

:33:33.:33:38.

their mind to something, I am not the best player but I work hard.

:33:39.:33:43.

This is insane, the semifinal of the Olympics. There is no reason why we

:33:44.:33:48.

cannot push the other guys out, I am well up for a medal.

:33:49.:33:52.

I love that message from Chris. It doesn't matter if you are not the

:33:53.:33:57.

best, if you work well together then things can happen. We are going to

:33:58.:34:06.

bring you some gymnastics now. The men's vault could be a battle

:34:07.:34:14.

between two men in their 30s. We have 31-year-old Ri Se-gwang.

:34:15.:34:21.

Commentary from Matt and the team. Huge disappointment on the floor

:34:22.:34:58.

here. What will the story be with his second vault? That was

:34:59.:35:03.

absolutely mesmerising. That is the best I have seen him do that. He had

:35:04.:35:13.

quite a few steps out before. The talk he gets to get the 3.5 twist

:35:14.:35:20.

round and just a small step. That is unbelievable. That is another first

:35:21.:35:31.

for today. It really has been a special Championships. We have had a

:35:32.:35:38.

real celebration, Chris. We have watched two vaulters push the

:35:39.:35:43.

boundaries, produced their own new elements. The way the code works

:35:44.:35:48.

these days, we have talked about the difficulty, building the difficulty

:35:49.:35:55.

score and trying to achieve the highest execution possible. The code

:35:56.:36:01.

book is open. This needs to be different this time. A superb 2.5

:36:02.:36:07.

twist from the half turn on. He is so clean. Not the highest of starts

:36:08.:36:20.

for the second vault. The average will still be big. This is his first

:36:21.:36:31.

Olympics. 19 years old. He has never medal on the vault at the World

:36:32.:36:39.

Championships. It was so clean. A small split as he came onto the

:36:40.:36:45.

horse. It was just out of picture but there was a slight split the

:36:46.:36:50.

judges will pick up. His legs were crossed in the air but dead central.

:36:51.:36:58.

He was spinning so fast the judges will not have seen that, Chris? No,

:36:59.:37:04.

they won't. That was very well performed. Really pleased to see him

:37:05.:37:11.

perform well. He was so disappointed with himself on the floor. Kenzo

:37:12.:37:19.

Shirai vaults into the lead. Four times world champion. This is his

:37:20.:37:24.

fourth Olympics now. And he will be doing his trademark vault. He got an

:37:25.:37:38.

Olympic medal in Athens 2004. He was second at the World Championships

:37:39.:37:46.

last year. Back from retirement. Fifth highest qualifier. When we

:37:47.:37:51.

first saw this, we thought it was absolutely unbelievable. It is still

:37:52.:37:58.

excellent, really good. He landed bolt upright. Very impressive

:37:59.:38:09.

vaulting. He's just practising his entry that he will have to do for

:38:10.:38:13.

the second vault because it has to be different. It is amazing the

:38:14.:38:21.

heights he gets. He manages to turn, kick out and spot the landing. The

:38:22.:38:28.

legs are hardly split apart. You will see a lot of gymnasts do that

:38:29.:38:37.

and their legs are really wide. He performs it the best. The height of

:38:38.:38:50.

the gymnasts can get off this platform is really quite amazing.

:38:51.:38:58.

The second-highest score we have seen so far.

:38:59.:39:04.

This one will be slightly harder than the last. He is being

:39:05.:39:18.

ambitious. Beautifully performed! That is the best series of vault I

:39:19.:39:25.

have ever seen him do. For a 6.2 difficulty, to put in that kind of

:39:26.:39:31.

execution, this is a gymnast who loves competition. He loves to feel

:39:32.:39:36.

the crowd and relax. With this vault you can quite easily miss and then

:39:37.:39:44.

coming off in a handspring. You get so much height and I knew he was

:39:45.:39:50.

going to make it round. Almost sticks the landing as well.

:39:51.:40:00.

Quite tidy as well. This will be a big challenge, I think. Can he get

:40:01.:40:16.

up into the medals? There are still four gymnasts to go. What does the

:40:17.:40:24.

future hold for Marian Dragulescu and his Olympic dreams? He is in

:40:25.:40:28.

second at the moment. Ri Se-gwang now. Keep your eyes open

:40:29.:40:47.

for this. A big pace back but a massive vault. The speed with which

:40:48.:40:52.

he rotates. He did the Dragulescu but in the pike position. A pipe

:40:53.:40:58.

position gets more difficulty than the tap. -- Tuck. Split and bent his

:40:59.:41:12.

legs slightly just before the turn. That is a 6.4 difficulty score. He

:41:13.:41:24.

has room for deductions. When you are coming from such a huge height

:41:25.:41:30.

with so much rotation, the landing and the forces going through the

:41:31.:41:34.

legs, no surprise they are having to take a step. Well, Ri Se-gwang has

:41:35.:41:43.

another 6.4 in the locker as far as difficulty is concerned.

:41:44.:42:00.

If he posts another difficulty score of 6.4 as we think he will, he will

:42:01.:42:07.

have an advantage as far as the difficulty is concerned. This is all

:42:08.:42:13.

about the execution. Can he vault himself into the lead? We have seen

:42:14.:42:20.

him a couple of times doing this and I think it is absolutely amazing.

:42:21.:42:29.

That was a great landing for the most complex of vaults you will ever

:42:30.:42:35.

see. He had hardly any time to spot that landing and somehow he managed.

:42:36.:42:41.

I thought he had stuck it for a minute. I think the landing shocked

:42:42.:42:46.

him as well. I think that will be enough to move him into first place.

:42:47.:42:54.

Lets just see the timing on this. He was up in the air and twisting and

:42:55.:43:00.

rotating so quickly. At the height he gets off the top of the vault. It

:43:01.:43:07.

allows him to perform it. If there is one more of them going to be in

:43:08.:43:10.

the final, I think it will come down to who lands it best. But that was

:43:11.:43:19.

amazing. The way he drops his shoulder in midair, you see that and

:43:20.:43:24.

there is the back somersault. And there is the floor very quickly! The

:43:25.:43:29.

ability to know where you are in the air to perform like that, 2.5

:43:30.:43:36.

somersaults with a full twist in the first somersault, just unbelievable

:43:37.:43:44.

awareness needed. He is in the lead. Denis Abliazin. If he hits this, it

:43:45.:43:53.

will be very, very impressive. This lad is the definition of power. Can

:43:54.:43:55.

he contain it? The full twist, back out. The second

:43:56.:44:09.

one of this competition, a step forwards which means it will

:44:10.:44:14.

slightly under rotated, but unbelievable vaulting from these

:44:15.:44:21.

guys. It was. It was the same vault that Ri Se-gwang performed. I did

:44:22.:44:25.

think it was quite as good. It comes down to the landing. There was a big

:44:26.:44:31.

step forwards so everything is now on the next vault. He is looking for

:44:32.:44:43.

a score over 15.449. That is after the second vault and both vaults are

:44:44.:44:44.

average. Quite a deep landing, his chest was

:44:45.:45:02.

low. I think the execution will be lower than Ri Se-gwang. 15.6. Down a

:45:03.:45:17.

tent on Ri Se-gwang's. Still an amazing vault though.

:45:18.:45:25.

is another huge star value, X point two. A big step. I'm so impressed

:45:26.:45:47.

with these gymnasts's vaulting. They are showing completely different

:45:48.:45:50.

vaults. A 6.2 difficulty, Ablyazin is not

:45:51.:46:03.

holding back. I think he's going to scrape into the medals. I don't

:46:04.:46:06.

think he's going to be first. The step back here on the landing. That

:46:07.:46:12.

will keep them away from first. It will be closed next phase close but

:46:13.:46:19.

I think he will probably just sneak in. He had a 6.0 and a 6.2. So he

:46:20.:46:29.

will probably just sneak in an difficulty. Can Marian Dragulescu

:46:30.:46:36.

hang on? Will then as -- will Denis Ablyazin... He gets

:46:37.:46:55.

the silver and Ri Se-gwang wins! Two times world champion and now Olympic

:46:56.:46:59.

champion. The 31-year-old from the people trip of the God

:47:00.:47:05.

-- the 31-year-old from the People's Republic of Korea. Marian Dragulescu

:47:06.:47:20.

will finish in fourth place. We're now going to head across live

:47:21.:47:30.

to the gymnastics, the women's beam is in progress and this includes the

:47:31.:47:36.

amazing Simone Biles, going for her fourth gold-medal. Here is Matt.

:47:37.:47:42.

COMMENTATOR: Thanks, Claire. Simone Biles will be fourth up. We have

:47:43.:47:51.

already had the first gymnast, Fam Yilin, getting through her go

:47:52.:48:01.

without a fault. The ultimate goal will be five golds for Simone Biles.

:48:02.:48:06.

The balance beam is decommissioned has to pick up that fourth one. We

:48:07.:48:11.

haven't seen any problems from her in the run-up to this beam final.

:48:12.:48:16.

Hopefully she can hold her nerve and she was a bit ahead of the other

:48:17.:48:20.

gymnasts, she's got such a huge difficulty on this piece of

:48:21.:48:24.

apparatus. It's a great piece of apparatus to watch. The Olympic

:48:25.:48:33.

champion back in 2004, she is now 28 years old and the remaining tab not

:48:34.:48:38.

made an impact that the Olympics. This was the first Olympics since

:48:39.:48:44.

1976 we did not see the Remainiac is up on the team podium. Very

:48:45.:48:46.

disappointing for them but they have had the opportunity to bring

:48:47.:48:52.

Catalina Ponor here and she's obviously hoping to bring a medal

:48:53.:48:59.

home. Eight gymnasts from qualification and it is now Isabela

:49:00.:49:03.

Onyshko from Canada. COMMENTATOR: The Canadians have had

:49:04.:49:12.

a bit of a mixed championship, very disappointed not to make the team

:49:13.:49:19.

final. But in the all-around competition there gymnasts have done

:49:20.:49:23.

well. Lovely opening series. Two backflips and they lay somersault.

:49:24.:49:32.

The change leg leapt into the free card wheel. On beam, gymnasts have

:49:33.:49:39.

to perform acrobatic skills Mike somersault and free walkovers, and

:49:40.:49:43.

spins and jumps as well. You can see the setup here for a big skill. Full

:49:44.:49:50.

twisting type back, and she just didn't get off her hands properly to

:49:51.:49:56.

do the backflip with powers so that you can stand right up and make a

:49:57.:49:57.

full twist. Nice, supple element. Good split in

:49:58.:50:12.

the jump. Free walkovers, immediately change the cast. Three

:50:13.:50:20.

elements linked. The spin with the leg held high. A little wobble

:50:21.:50:32.

their, already had a fall, so this routine, for execution, will be one

:50:33.:50:36.

marked lower than if she hadn't had the fall, and this is the dismount.

:50:37.:50:48.

Two flips! Nice high double turn. Disappointment for Onyshko on the

:50:49.:50:54.

beam. She did one series so well but the second one caused grief. You get

:50:55.:50:58.

one chance in a final and you have to go for it. Flicked straight back,

:50:59.:51:04.

just a small double. Beautiful extension on the change leg leapt

:51:05.:51:12.

into the cartwheel. The full twist, spotting that beam as she's coming

:51:13.:51:18.

in for it. She was off-line. You can see although both feet yacht on, the

:51:19.:51:24.

body weight wasn't over. A lot of nice features to this routine.

:51:25.:51:30.

Lovely nice split here, head right bank and a very efficient double

:51:31.:51:38.

tucked dismount, chest a bit low on landing, but that's a shame because

:51:39.:51:42.

that was a good routine. The second of eight gymnasts in this women's

:51:43.:51:48.

Olympic beam final. The next gymnasts up, who is just marking out

:51:49.:51:53.

the beam at the moment is Simone Biles. Chalking up the beam in

:51:54.:52:06.

certain positions just socially can judge the length of the tumbles. She

:52:07.:52:13.

can't look and see how far from the end of the beam she is, she needs it

:52:14.:52:16.

marked out very precisely. Sally Conway we get a difficulty

:52:17.:52:28.

score of the first mark is the amount of difficulty she is unable

:52:29.:52:34.

to perform in the second mark the execution. Usually up at say eight

:52:35.:52:38.

but with a fall it will no doubt be down in the sevens. The flick, full

:52:39.:52:45.

twist and her knees are off to the side and there was no room for error

:52:46.:52:50.

on the beam, it's only ten centimetres wide. Just a little bit

:52:51.:53:00.

bigger than a phone. Trying out your beam routine, Rob! Exactly! We are

:53:01.:53:07.

looking for scores around the mid-15 is, do you think? The top one or two

:53:08.:53:14.

will get 15s, but the first gymnast without a fall, 14.5. 14.54 Fan

:53:15.:53:30.

Yilin,, which, and she gets 13.4. Simone Biles, 19 years old, on this

:53:31.:53:35.

golden path to make history. Aiming for five Olympic gold medals, never

:53:36.:53:38.

been done before. A quick entry on the beam, straight

:53:39.:53:52.

into the two and a half split. Such control and such a difficult element

:53:53.:53:56.

to do. The two compulsory jumps that you need. Such a powerful gymnast.

:53:57.:54:03.

The front somersault with turn. Here comes the first of the big

:54:04.:54:16.

somersault series. The flick into the layout. Not a flicker! So

:54:17.:54:29.

confident. Oh! Front somersault. Well, that will definitely be a

:54:30.:54:33.

deduction. It can be as much as one hallmark. She just held back on that

:54:34.:54:38.

front somersault but did well to control it and they on the beam.

Change leg into the change leg have come into the bike back. She has

:54:44.:54:50.

regained her composure. Such a difficult piece of apparatus. Once

:54:51.:54:54.

you've fallen ones, to get back up and be solid, but she's doing well.

:54:55.:55:00.

And here is the final element, the big dismount. Flicked one, flicked

:55:01.:55:06.

afflict the two, full twist and double back. Well, Beth, you said

:55:07.:55:12.

that this piece could well be the stumbling block. Unfortunately, I

:55:13.:55:17.

think that will take away that gold medal from her. Obviously there are

:55:18.:55:23.

still five more gymnasts to go in this apparatus final. Beam is all

:55:24.:55:28.

about being able to stay on. It was such a good start to the Read team,

:55:29.:55:32.

just that front somersault held back a bit too much. Well, she's been

:55:33.:55:38.

significantly ahead of the others on beam, it will still need a good

:55:39.:55:42.

routine to beat this. That was the best she's done throughout the

:55:43.:55:47.

competition, the front half. She was really confident on these layout

:55:48.:55:52.

somersaults, but on this one she opened out a fraction early, wanting

:55:53.:55:57.

to link it to the next jump and she had to recover. And really, putting

:55:58.:56:02.

the hands down like that, is really classed as a fall on the apparatus

:56:03.:56:07.

and is usually one hallmark duction. We will see. The judges have some

:56:08.:56:12.

leeway, if they felt it was just a hesitation or a brush of the hand,

:56:13.:56:17.

they can take less. But she's certainly opened the door.

:56:18.:56:22.

Well, Lauren Hernandez, her team-mate, is certainly capable of

:56:23.:56:29.

scoring 15.3. Do you know the other person capable of a big score? The

:56:30.:56:33.

Dutch girl, San -- Sanne Wevers. She's capable of

:56:34.:56:43.

challenging. There is Lauren Hernandez and she knows the door is

:56:44.:56:46.

open, there is a chance. She no doubt will have been out in the back

:56:47.:56:52.

gym, certainly won't have watched that performance. With how this

:56:53.:56:58.

final works, it can be a long wait in five, six, seven and eight

:56:59.:57:03.

positions, so they have time to go into the back gym and warm up. She

:57:04.:57:08.

may not have seen her own team-mates have that mistake. She held back too

:57:09.:57:15.

much and thought well. Now it's just a nervous wait. Her personal coach

:57:16.:57:20.

with her, who's done absolutely fantastic, to get her three Olympic

:57:21.:57:29.

gold medals already. Simone has seen the scoreboard, and it will not be

:57:30.:57:35.

enough. We don't think... 14.73, she's in the at the moment, but for

:57:36.:57:38.

how long? Lauren Hernandez can't help but now

:57:39.:57:48.

know the situation. Sanne Wevers, fourth highest qualifier now, with

:57:49.:57:53.

the chance for an Olympic medal. Silver at the Worlds last year. And

:57:54.:58:02.

of course the tension rackets up, but that was a very nice full

:58:03.:58:09.

turning flip mount. Super double spin with leg held in front. Free

:58:10.:58:19.

cartwheel, free cartwheel. That little step back means she's a bit

:58:20.:58:25.

down on start value, because we've seen her link the two free

:58:26.:58:31.

cartwheels into the walkovers really is Lee. She relieved does depend on

:58:32.:58:37.

the bonuses. Superb, triple spin just as difficult as the front turn.

:58:38.:58:46.

Spin with the leg up, backspin, double spin. That combination is

:58:47.:58:52.

absolutely beautiful, into a jump, and the rewards for that are just as

:58:53.:58:57.

much for the rewards for the big acrobatic skills. She has to do some

:58:58.:59:02.

acrobatics as well and she does there, another very nice full

:59:03.:59:09.

turning flip. Gymnasts have to do working load to the beam as well.

:59:10.:59:17.

Sideways moves, and then the big dismount. She's just pausing. It's

:59:18.:59:22.

an unusual dismount as well. Here we go... That was a big challenge. She

:59:23.:59:31.

gets through that routine without major deduction. Has she done

:59:32.:59:32.

enough? We will find out soon. You can find out whether Simone

:59:33.:59:42.

Biles hangs on Lord gets caught over on BBC Two. We're leaving you
