It's a goal for Alex Danson! Is pushed down. Great Britain at the

:00:58.:01:07.

moment the top team in the Olympic tournament. It's a goal for Great

:01:08.:01:12.

Britain. Scored! Great Britain will go to the

:01:13.:01:27.

Olympic semifinal. They will face New Zealand.

:01:28.:01:34.

It is a huge night for Britain's hockey players at Deodoro, they

:01:35.:01:40.

prepare to face New Zealand in the semifinals, the last match in charge

:01:41.:01:44.

for captain Kate Richardson-Walsh. She'll retire from international

:01:45.:01:48.

hockey after this. Kick-off or pushback as they call it, 9pm your

:01:49.:01:53.

time. It's incredibly tense because in this semifinal they are

:01:54.:01:57.

guaranteed gold or silver if they win. Couldn't be closer, the New

:01:58.:02:02.

Zealanders are very good. Let's show you the live sport in action at the

:02:03.:02:07.

moment, to watch football you can do so, currently Nigeria 0- one Germany

:02:08.:02:11.

in the second of the semifinals. Brazil will be the team waiting in

:02:12.:02:15.

the gold-medal match, winning their semifinal against Honduras. It's

:02:16.:02:20.

currently on the Red Button. The diving, that is the women's ten

:02:21.:02:26.

metre preliminary round. Tonia Couch and Sarah Barrow going in this for

:02:27.:02:28.

Great Britain. It's available online. On BBC Four right now, they

:02:29.:02:36.

are showing golf, the first round of the women's competition, Charley

:02:37.:02:41.

Hull and Katrina Matthew going for Great Britain. Very strong Korean

:02:42.:02:44.

challenge, though, they have the best players in the world.

:02:45.:02:49.

The hockey coming up is a repeat of the bronze medal match from London

:02:50.:02:56.

2012 which Great Britain won, Kate Richardson-Walsh playing with her

:02:57.:02:59.

jaw in a sort of mask because she had broken her jaw earlier in the

:03:00.:03:03.

competition. Britain's women can either be very good, they won the

:03:04.:03:06.

Euro hockey championships for the first time last year, or off-colour,

:03:07.:03:11.

when they finished seven out of eight at the world challenge in

:03:12.:03:15.

December. In Rio they've been an fabulous form, this is how they've

:03:16.:03:17.

reached the semifinal stages. Back and goal from Alex Danson, an

:03:18.:03:33.

absolute beauty. Great Britain have got their Olympic hockey tournament

:03:34.:03:41.

off to dream start. It's bundled through into the goal by Alex

:03:42.:03:46.

Danson. That will be that. India 03 Great Britain. -- India 0- three

:03:47.:03:55.

Great Britain. Great Britain have won. They remain unbeaten in the

:03:56.:04:00.

Olympic tournament so far. Great Britain versus Japan. Scored,

:04:01.:04:06.

finished off beautifully from height by Nicola White. Great Britain have

:04:07.:04:10.

notched another win. Whoever wins this will go into the quarterfinal

:04:11.:04:18.

having won pool B. Goal for Alex Danson. Maximum points, five wins

:04:19.:04:22.

out of five, Great Britain at the moment the top team in the Olympic

:04:23.:04:29.

tournament. Great Britain in white tonight, she scores, Great Britain

:04:30.:04:32.

in front. Georgie Twigg fires it in. Easy finish. What an easy finish for

:04:33.:04:40.

Lily Owsley. Heading for the Olympic semifinal. Next stop, New Zealand.

:04:41.:04:46.

Unbeaten so far and giving Kate Richardson-Walsh every reason to

:04:47.:04:53.

smile, determined to send him off in style. She's the most capped

:04:54.:04:58.

international in hockey history, in terms of our country, 360

:04:59.:05:02.

appearances, she made her debut in the last century, and she has been

:05:03.:05:04.

captain for the last 13 years. I've been in the senior programme

:05:05.:05:19.

for 17 years, I've changed, the game has changed. The lead up to Sydney

:05:20.:05:22.

we were wearing men's polo shirts and massive ID skirts, it was a real

:05:23.:05:29.

trial to get us all together because we weren't a full-time programme.

:05:30.:05:35.

Cut to now, we're full-time, night and day, it's completely different,

:05:36.:05:38.

to see the transition has been amazing. Ouch. London 2012, broken

:05:39.:05:48.

jaw, heroic performances, tears, we remind us of those experiences four

:05:49.:05:52.

years ago. When I look back to the London Olympics it feels like I'm

:05:53.:05:55.

watching a movie and there is somebody else in it, it's surreal.

:05:56.:06:00.

To fracture my job, it's the worst injury, touch wood, I sustained. To

:06:01.:06:04.

have done it in the first game of the home Olympics is the most

:06:05.:06:08.

unfortunate thing ever. I remember vividly watching the team playing

:06:09.:06:13.

career, I was in the hospital, had my operation, I was so calm and

:06:14.:06:20.

proud. -- Korea. All the work we done on the pitch was there for me

:06:21.:06:23.

to watch on TV, when I was told I could rejoin the team, we're going

:06:24.:06:27.

for this with our lives. It was an amazing two weeks. You are seen as

:06:28.:06:33.

money for the team. I am a mother hen, I care, as we all do, we spend

:06:34.:06:38.

so much time with each other you become so involved in each other's

:06:39.:06:42.

lives, you really care about the person on the pitch and the person

:06:43.:06:46.

off the pitch, and what goes around their life and their relationships.

:06:47.:06:51.

It's all part and parcel of Kevin for each other, which makes us tight

:06:52.:06:55.

as a group. Do you consider yourself an ambassador not just for Great

:06:56.:06:58.

Britain hockey, but hockey in general? Absolutely, we know the

:06:59.:07:03.

Olympics is a massive shop window and hockey, a sport played by a huge

:07:04.:07:07.

number of people in the country in terms of media coverage, it's a

:07:08.:07:11.

minority sport, we have to take the opportunity and grab it. We are 31

:07:12.:07:15.

women, all different ages, backgrounds, likes and dislikes,

:07:16.:07:19.

we're a great range of role models to send into the country to say it

:07:20.:07:23.

doesn't matter if you are small, tall, big, whatever, you can play

:07:24.:07:27.

hockey. It's what we represent in the squad. Fourth Olympics, is it

:07:28.:07:32.

possible this might be the last one for you? Yes, I think it's time, I

:07:33.:07:41.

just feel like it's come to a natural end, I feel like I'm 36, my

:07:42.:07:45.

body's still feeling really good, still really fit and still loving

:07:46.:07:49.

it. I think there are challenges ahead for me but not on the

:07:50.:07:53.

international stage. I'm taking one day at a time, the old boring stuff,

:07:54.:07:57.

focusing on that, then afterwards, what will be will be.

:07:58.:08:01.

I know everybody watching, everybody playing with Kate would love her

:08:02.:08:05.

final match to be a gold-medal match in Rio. What is the likelihood of

:08:06.:08:12.

that happening? Mel Clewlow is at Deodoro, you know K-12. The sort of

:08:13.:08:17.

person she is, what inspires in the team around her? She's an

:08:18.:08:23.

inspirational leader, I feel fortunate to have played in the same

:08:24.:08:27.

team as her and had her as captain. I've never seen her as focused as

:08:28.:08:31.

she is here right now, it really has spread through the entire team. We

:08:32.:08:35.

can see the team warming up behind, Black sticks as well, what is your

:08:36.:08:39.

prediction about how the match will go? Thanks for that. I don't know,

:08:40.:08:45.

it's a rerun of 2012 bronze medal, whoever wins will make history for

:08:46.:08:49.

their country. I genuinely think there will be one goal in it to

:08:50.:08:53.

either side, my heart without a doubt says Great Britain because of

:08:54.:08:56.

the way they've been playing in the tournament so far. But the Black

:08:57.:09:00.

sticks aren't an easy pushover, GB beat them six weeks ago at the

:09:01.:09:03.

champions Trophy 4-3 and the Black sticks beat them in December 2-1, so

:09:04.:09:09.

it'll be a close game. It seems that it's so well spread out, the British

:09:10.:09:14.

team, everybody scoring goals from all over, it's not reliant on one

:09:15.:09:19.

player. Yeah, that's the difference, London 2012 we relied on Crista

:09:20.:09:23.

Cullen and Alex Danson to score the goals, they've spread it out really

:09:24.:09:26.

well. You can see the confidence in Lily Owsley, Sophie Bray, it's

:09:27.:09:34.

really pleasing to see. It's tough for the opposition coach to work out

:09:35.:09:37.

the weaknesses. So thorough has Great Britain's preparation being,

:09:38.:09:41.

they've recreated the pitch they see behind you, isn't it the same

:09:42.:09:46.

they've been training on at Bisham Abbey? It is, credit to the

:09:47.:09:50.

governing body they are prepared to go to any lengths necessary to

:09:51.:09:55.

prepare the team. They've had a social media ban as well, it really

:09:56.:09:59.

does show in the way the team has played until now, they are fully

:10:00.:10:02.

focused and have one aim, to win the gold medal. Let's hope, fingers

:10:03.:10:09.

crossed, they can do so. 9pm is push off time, we'll be back at Deodoro

:10:10.:10:13.

shortly. Earlier we showed you some BMX from the men's competition, Liam

:10:14.:10:16.

Phillips getting through in tenth place. What about the women? It's an

:10:17.:10:24.

amazing course here. The ramps, the jumping is one of the coolest sports

:10:25.:10:25.

on offer in Rio. Stephanie Hernandez. Almost ready to

:10:26.:10:44.

go. A rare Olympic medal opportunity for Venezuelan.

:10:45.:10:52.

35.251 seconds is the time to beat here goes last year's world

:10:53.:11:01.

champion. Quickest at the bottom of the start ramp attacking this first

:11:02.:11:09.

return. Flying around turn one. Searing pace. Can she carry it on?

:11:10.:11:20.

Still quickest at this stage, just one straight to go. Even visually

:11:21.:11:24.

the way she's riding looks to be the best rider we've seen so far, as she

:11:25.:11:29.

crosses the line. Straight to the top. She's the fastest, no surprise

:11:30.:11:37.

there. Laura Smulders from the Netherlands, the Olympic bronze

:11:38.:11:41.

medallist from London, world silver in the time trial this year. Having

:11:42.:11:46.

previously won the world crown a couple of years ago. First in her

:11:47.:11:49.

home World Cup, the last big race these riders had. In May. Race three

:11:50.:11:55.

of the World Cup series... Smulders. Will she try to clear the triple as

:11:56.:12:09.

well? No, is the answer. Playing it safe, cautious from her. Second

:12:10.:12:14.

place at the moment. Only a fraction of a second off the quickest time.

:12:15.:12:20.

Carving that turned nicely. Maintaining momentum through this

:12:21.:12:28.

section. Smulders not taking any chances, making sure there are no

:12:29.:12:31.

early dramas for her. This time looks as though it's going to be a

:12:32.:12:36.

big one. Indeed it is, the new fastest time. For Laura Smulders

:12:37.:12:41.

from the Netherlands. Very impressive performance, really

:12:42.:12:47.

consistent, no major mistakes. The weather is quite a factor, even

:12:48.:12:51.

though it's a sunny day, the wind is interesting for cyclists. The wind

:12:52.:12:56.

is quite changeable, ten or 15 minutes ago it was blowing in a

:12:57.:13:00.

completely different direction to the one we can see it's blowing now,

:13:01.:13:05.

the flags flickering quite stiffly on the far side.

:13:06.:13:13.

Caroline Buchanan, this year's world time trial champion. She is the one

:13:14.:13:20.

they are all going to be looking at in this particular discipline and

:13:21.:13:27.

this time trial effort. Really aggressive, attacking the jumps,

:13:28.:13:31.

looking super-smooth. One of the best hopes of cycling success for

:13:32.:13:35.

Australia going into these games, never mind the current situation

:13:36.:13:38.

where so many Aussies have underperformed on two wheels. She's

:13:39.:13:47.

into the lead. Can she hang on? Can she carry it over the line into

:13:48.:13:53.

first place? She can, the world champion makes a good start to her

:13:54.:13:59.

Olympic campaign. And the Colombian fans are making a noise now because

:14:00.:14:08.

it's Pajon. Up on the ramp. She seems to deal with pressure so well.

:14:09.:14:13.

As the home favourite in the World Championships, she brushed all

:14:14.:14:16.

attention aside and won the race with apparent ease. She's waving at

:14:17.:14:19.

the crowd, relaxing, smiling, let's see what she can do here.

:14:20.:14:28.

Riders ready, watch the gate... Rego is the world champion, the last ride

:14:29.:14:36.

off in the time trial. All the Colombian fans in the crowd

:14:37.:14:42.

screaming themselves hoarse. Cleared the triples with ease. Storming

:14:43.:14:45.

through, quickest time so far. Super-smooth. Super-smooth. The sort

:14:46.:14:52.

of start we were expecting to see from the world champion. Can she

:14:53.:14:57.

carry it on here through this rhythm section into the final turn? Looking

:14:58.:15:02.

like she's in a class of her own, so impressive. Smooth, quick, stylish,

:15:03.:15:12.

fastest, Pajon of Colombia. There you go, world champion, steps up and

:15:13.:15:15.

performs on the biggest stage, really impressive. Pajon just seem

:15:16.:15:19.

to be head and shoulders above the rest. Only two tenths of a second,

:15:20.:15:25.

but Buchanan looking strong, too. It's hard to look past Pajon for the

:15:26.:15:27.

gold medal at this stage. That was Chris Hoy doing commentary

:15:28.:15:38.

with Simon Brotherton. He loves BMX, as well. We are building up to the

:15:39.:15:43.

hockey, Great Britain against New Zealand, but before we join that

:15:44.:15:47.

live, there is time to reflect on the other side of Rio. We see the

:15:48.:15:52.

glossy side but there are huge problems with poverty. We visited

:15:53.:15:58.

one where sport is used to help to inspire people.

:15:59.:16:11.

Today I have come to a safe area in a favela. Welcome. This is in 11

:16:12.:16:23.

different communities and this one, the kids here we work with are

:16:24.:16:26.

facing issues of poverty, family breakdown. There are not job

:16:27.:16:32.

opportunities for their family, so it is a poor part of town and one of

:16:33.:16:38.

the dangerous parts of town. There are police here. They fight with the

:16:39.:16:45.

local drug traffickers. This is it. Because you are on the

:16:46.:16:52.

Hill, you hear the gunfire. It is amazing. There could be automatic

:16:53.:16:56.

gunfire and the kids continue to play. We needed a place where the

:16:57.:17:02.

police and drugs traffickers agreed not to fight and so we created a

:17:03.:17:06.

safe place for the kids to come and play football. This is one of our

:17:07.:17:15.

coaches at the safe space programme. Have you seen a real change of the

:17:16.:17:18.

young people who come here? They are more happy. They are not on the

:17:19.:17:25.

street. Doing fighting or something like that. The reality is they are

:17:26.:17:30.

the brothers and sisters of the traffickers, who grew up in the

:17:31.:17:34.

community, so working with them is important so age 13, 14, they are

:17:35.:17:40.

not trafficking drugs, picking up the gun. Today we have an important

:17:41.:17:45.

guest. His name is Darren Campbell. People told me kids like me do not

:17:46.:17:54.

win Olympic gold medals. So, for me to win the gold medal, it proved a

:17:55.:18:00.

lot of people wrong. That is why I believe in these guys.

:18:01.:18:09.

Why do you enjoy coming here, Eric? TRANSLATION: I like to come here

:18:10.:18:18.

because it is a really nice place to play and if anything happens, it is

:18:19.:18:22.

near my house and I can just go home really quickly.

:18:23.:18:30.

Do you feel safe when you are here? How do these guys feel about the

:18:31.:18:36.

Olympics being just their? TRANSLATION: I don't really like the

:18:37.:18:40.

Olympics much because in Brazil we are in the middle of a crisis but I

:18:41.:18:44.

like to support the athletes because it is their dream. I think the girl

:18:45.:18:50.

from judo was happy, not just because she won medal for Brazil,

:18:51.:18:56.

but she showed that someone from a favela can do this. It is about

:18:57.:19:02.

developing the kids on the right path. The Olympics, it gives them a

:19:03.:19:09.

goal, a dream. Sport really does have the power to change lives. You

:19:10.:19:13.

can see this safe area really gives these kids the opportunity to feel

:19:14.:19:18.

the part of something, respect something, get the values that sport

:19:19.:19:23.

gives. For me, that is what is Olympic legacy should be all about.

:19:24.:19:28.

Darren Campbell on one of the project is trying to spread the

:19:29.:19:32.

message of support and help with kids' fitness and health and their

:19:33.:19:36.

confidence and giving them something to do that will keep them busy and

:19:37.:19:40.

give them a purpose in life and to have fun, which is the point of it

:19:41.:19:45.

all. Shortly we will be joining live the second semifinal of the women's

:19:46.:19:50.

hockey. The first semifinal was contested between the Netherlands

:19:51.:19:57.

who are going for a third title, and they were up against Germany. This

:19:58.:20:06.

is what happened. It was definitely Schroeder initially. They have

:20:07.:20:16.

Muller on the top. Muller! It is dangerous. It is in. Muller

:20:17.:20:31.

unleashes a bullet from the top. The Dutch goalkeeper has to be

:20:32.:20:34.

disappointed with this because it went straight down the middle. She

:20:35.:20:42.

should know what Muller is going to do. 1-0, Germany. Oh, that is a

:20:43.:21:03.

great goal. That is a beauty. Maartje Paumen is regarded as one of

:21:04.:21:08.

the best in the world at this. That was an absolute ripper down the

:21:09.:21:14.

stick side of Reynolds, who took half a step to her left and that

:21:15.:21:18.

probably beats her. The driving force behind the Dutch team has got

:21:19.:21:24.

them back in it. The penalty shoot out for a guaranteed Olympic medal

:21:25.:21:28.

and a place in the gold medal match is about to commence. Off the

:21:29.:21:43.

goalkeeper and in. A good start. And it is in, off the goalkeeper and in.

:21:44.:21:50.

We had to wait as that one floated towards the goal but found the

:21:51.:22:02.

target. Hoog. Saved. Terrific goalkeeping. Reynolds watched every

:22:03.:22:07.

step of the way as she went to the circle.

:22:08.:22:13.

Up to the edge. It is in. She makes sure for Germany. Next up, for

:22:14.:22:18.

benevolence. Marloes Keetels is missed. Has to

:22:19.:22:42.

make a save here. It is saved. It is over. Joyce Sombroek has given the

:22:43.:22:50.

Dutch a lifeline with that. Thought about taking it long. Great penalty.

:22:51.:23:03.

Taking her time for Germany. Running out of options, running out of

:23:04.:23:08.

seconds. Joyce Sombroek has got the job done. All square.

:23:09.:23:19.

Kelly Jonker against Reynolds. Kelly Jonker did not move Reynolds enough.

:23:20.:23:34.

Terms. Joyce Sombroek makes the save. We are into sudden death. It

:23:35.:23:41.

started so well for the Germans, but Joyce Sombroek has shown what a

:23:42.:23:47.

quality goalkeeper she is. And now the sudden death situation. The

:23:48.:23:53.

German captain against the Dutch keeper. Oh, she squeezed it in

:23:54.:24:03.

somehow. What a finish. An extraordinary angle. From that

:24:04.:24:11.

angle, diving. Take a bow. Reynolds has saved. Gets another chance and

:24:12.:24:19.

makes no mistake. The whistle goes. Eight seconds. Coming at speed. No.

:24:20.:24:29.

Wide of the gold. She tried to go through the legs of Joyce Sombroek.

:24:30.:24:40.

Hoog, she scores! The Netherlands are guaranteed a medal in the

:24:41.:24:45.

Olympic hockey tournament. The Dutch have done it. The Dutch are in the

:24:46.:24:48.

Olympic final. Oh, my word, having seen the tension

:24:49.:24:58.

of the penalty shoot out, I hope the same thing does not happen in this

:24:59.:25:04.

match. We are not far from push off in the second semifinal. Will it be

:25:05.:25:08.

Great Britain or New Zealand who will join them. Let's head to

:25:09.:25:22.

Deodoro and join Rishi the. Simon, when people talk about a team

:25:23.:25:28.

doing well, they tend to talk in cliches, saying everybody is pulling

:25:29.:25:31.

their weight. There are no cliches about this team, every member is on

:25:32.:25:35.

the top of their form. The time when they had to rely on Alex Danson

:25:36.:25:44.

scoring goals has gone. It is backed up by an unbelievable defensive

:25:45.:25:51.

platform. With Hinch at the centre of it. We will just take a pause for

the national anthems. # Long live our noble Queen

:25:56.:27:20.

# God save our Queen # Sent her

:27:21.:27:25.

Happy and glorious # Longs to reign over us

:27:26.:27:47.

# God Save The Queen. Two passionate renditions of their

:27:48.:27:53.

national anthem. The coach highlighted the dangers of the pace

:27:54.:27:56.

of this New Zealand side. How dangerous is it? It is huge. One of

:27:57.:28:01.

the fastest sides against any number of players.

:28:02.:28:09.

The New Zealand coach is to worry about the talent is spread across

:28:10.:28:15.

many people. You cannot pinpoint a defensive tactic to negate it. Time

:28:16.:28:21.

to head to the commentary box. History beckons for both these

:28:22.:28:26.

sides. Great Britain have only won a bronze medal so far, the women's

:28:27.:28:30.

team, in competition. Mel Clewlow and Max Chilton are standing by in

:28:31.:28:36.

the commentary box. Good evening, everybody. A terrific

:28:37.:28:46.

atmosphere here tonight at the Deodoro north Rio. Great Britain,

:28:47.:28:55.

all in red, in their huddle. It is a warm evening. Stifling today. 37

:28:56.:28:59.

degrees during the first semifinal that got under way at midday. That

:29:00.:29:05.

was won by the Dutch in a penalty shoot out over the Germans. The

:29:06.:29:11.

temperature has gone down to 26 degrees, but it is still warm. Danny

:29:12.:29:16.

Kerry has overseen the progress of this brilliant Great Britain side.

:29:17.:29:21.

They have got to the semifinal, can they go all the way? Alex Danson

:29:22.:29:25.

could be crucial. Sophie Bray was outstanding in the quarterfinal win

:29:26.:29:38.

over Spain. The umpires for tonight's semifinal...

:29:39.:29:44.

The reward for the winner a place in the Olympics final to face the

:29:45.:29:47.

Netherlands. The losers will go to the bronze medal match to take on

:29:48.:29:53.

Germany. The crowd are counting down. Here we go, the second

:29:54.:29:58.

semifinal in the women's Olympic hockey tournament is under way.

:29:59.:30:03.

Sophie Bray on the left. Inside to Nicola White. Pushes is a downer

:30:04.:30:09.

that flank. New Zealand called upon to defend. Townsend. Bought Susannah

:30:10.:30:17.

Townsend might have got the run of the ball. That's a good evening to

:30:18.:30:21.

Mel Clewlow. This is the game we've really been looking forward to, all

:30:22.:30:25.

the build-up has been about London 2012 and Great Britain are on the

:30:26.:30:29.

right side of that result four years ago. The teams are different, eight

:30:30.:30:33.

players from Great Britain returning to the Olympics, six from New

:30:34.:30:38.

Zealand. The game has moved on massively in that format the year

:30:39.:30:41.

cycle and both teams have been at the top of their games, it'll be a

:30:42.:30:46.

cracking semifinal. The pace of New Zealand, so talked about, is evident

:30:47.:30:50.

within the first minute of the match, as they get down to the edge

:30:51.:30:53.

of the Great Britain Circle. Susannah Townsend, normally upfront,

:30:54.:30:58.

back defending, getting the job done. Crista Cullen, the veteran,

:30:59.:31:06.

will step over to restart. Should go aerial, and does. Looking for Alex

:31:07.:31:10.

Danson, dance and's first touch is perfect, then loses out to a strong

:31:11.:31:15.

tackle. -- damson's first touch. Interesting to hear, we are used to

:31:16.:31:22.

the surface, that's where we are, it's another training game, taking

:31:23.:31:30.

the focus of what the game means. New Zealand looking dangerous, no

:31:31.:31:38.

penalty corner awarded. Danson as space. Also has Hannah Macleod in

:31:39.:31:43.

front of her. Nicola White has been on the scoresheet a couple of times.

:31:44.:31:47.

Now Hannah Macleod. Giselle Ansley behind her. -- Anthony behind her.

:31:48.:31:55.

Susannah Townsend with this deal. Great from Townsend, all the way to

:31:56.:32:03.

the edge of the circle. Nicola White restart quickly and Crista Cullen

:32:04.:32:06.

finds herself in a forward position, crosses the ball, positive start

:32:07.:32:12.

from Great Britain. The game started at cracking pace, if it continues

:32:13.:32:16.

like this for 60 minutes we really are in for a treat. Whoever is

:32:17.:32:19.

playing left forward for Great Britain will have to do a job on the

:32:20.:32:23.

person on the ball right now, Stacey Michelsen. She was one of the world

:32:24.:32:26.

junior players of the year not so long ago. She is a linchpin for this

:32:27.:32:32.

Kiwi team. Danson on a break, just lost control and lost out with

:32:33.:32:35.

possession. Nicola White has done a of running in the first couple of

:32:36.:32:41.

minutes of this match. Giselle Ansley has had a really good

:32:42.:32:46.

tournament. Heart to find any weaklings in the Great Britain team,

:32:47.:32:50.

they've played superbly throughout. Victories against Australia, India,

:32:51.:32:55.

Argentina, 3-2 against Argentina. They defeated Japan and the USA

:32:56.:32:59.

before coming away 3-1 winners against Spain in the quarterfinal 48

:33:00.:33:10.

hours ago. McLaren will be one to watch as and when penalty corners,

:33:11.:33:18.

New Zealand's way. New Zealand inside Great Britain's 23. Stacey

:33:19.:33:23.

Michelsen. Pushed away by Laura Unsworth. Covered by Susannah

:33:24.:33:36.

Townsend. Georgie Twigg on the Great Britain bench, she'll play a part.

:33:37.:33:40.

Scored in the quarterfinal which will have done her confidence the

:33:41.:33:44.

power of good, coming in from the injections but, tapping in from

:33:45.:33:48.

close range. As you say, there hasn't been a player in this team

:33:49.:33:53.

that has put in a poor performance. Shona McCallin claiming she was

:33:54.:33:59.

battered from behind. Daesh she was. The South African umpire has said,

:34:00.:34:08.

it's my fault, I got it wrong. Townsend. She has great pace, plays

:34:09.:34:13.

it out to the right to find Sam Quek. Sam Quek looking for Helen

:34:14.:34:17.

Richardson-Walsh, slide it inside. Into the circle. This is worrying

:34:18.:34:22.

from a New Zealand point of view, they need to get out of this tight

:34:23.:34:26.

corner, and they will do so gradually. Look at the Great Britain

:34:27.:34:38.

sticks surrounding the ball. K Richardson-Walsh, the captain, all

:34:39.:34:44.

the way back to Giselle Ansley inside her own half. Laura Unsworth

:34:45.:34:47.

has been absolutely outstanding throughout this Olympic tournament,

:34:48.:34:50.

since that's downward. Possibly too much pace for Alex Danson. Sophie

:34:51.:34:58.

Bray intercepts. Will we see magic from Sophie Bray? Danson to her

:34:59.:35:03.

left. Townsend is in control, send it back. Of Zealand foot. They

:35:04.:35:18.

continue. Sam Quek. Helen Richardson-Walsh. Townsend. Lovely

:35:19.:35:25.

pass forward. Between Townsend and Helen Richardson-Walsh. One of the

:35:26.:35:29.

driving forces behind British hockey, Helen Richardson-Walsh,

:35:30.:35:31.

she's had injury problems through her career but this is possibly one

:35:32.:35:35.

of the best month I've seen her play, she's been phenomenal upfront,

:35:36.:35:38.

hopefully she can continue in this game. Shona McCallin inside to

:35:39.:35:45.

Sophie Bray. Helen Richardson-Walsh claims she was barged off the ball,

:35:46.:35:52.

fair claim. Shona McCallin with the free hit. She'll get another go.

:35:53.:35:58.

Goes back to Kate Richardson-Walsh, now Laura Unsworth on the right.

:35:59.:36:06.

One thing they did exceptionally well against Spain on the other

:36:07.:36:11.

reading, particularly in the first half, they played too bulky, but the

:36:12.:36:14.

ball, moved it, then supported the person on the ball. It'll be a

:36:15.:36:18.

harder task against the Black sticks, because they are at equal

:36:19.:36:23.

fitness level to the British side, they are higher than Britain in the

:36:24.:36:28.

world rankings. Could be a high paced, high tempo game, exactly what

:36:29.:36:32.

we want to see. Laura Unsworth in space. Behind Sam Quek, tries to

:36:33.:36:40.

threaded through to Townsend. Picked out by New Zealand, who can regain

:36:41.:36:47.

their shape. Kayla Whitelock in a collision with Sophie Bray and Great

:36:48.:36:51.

Britain get the decision. There is a card coming New Zealand's way.

:36:52.:36:55.

Whitelock will miss the next couple of minutes. Sam Quek doing excellent

:36:56.:37:04.

work, get that far up the circle, hasn't given it up yet. . Great

:37:05.:37:14.

Britain with a player over. As Kayla Whitelock takes her suspension.

:37:15.:37:19.

Georgie Twigg might get a card herself. I can't see any umpire hand

:37:20.:37:26.

going into a pocket, Twigg's got away with that one. Kayla Whitelock

:37:27.:37:30.

so important for New Zealand, took time out to have a baby last year,

:37:31.:37:34.

it's great to see her back. One of the reasons, she said, was London

:37:35.:37:37.

left a bittersweet taste in her mouth having finished fourth. She

:37:38.:37:43.

realised that she wanted to be a part of the black sticks programme

:37:44.:37:48.

still. Great interplay apart from the final touch from Lily Owsley

:37:49.:37:54.

which came up short, but Shona McCallin, fast break on the right

:37:55.:38:01.

for Gemma Flynn. Runs into Unsworth. Flynn continues on her way, slide it

:38:02.:38:05.

inside, New Zealand threatening, there is the captain to clean things

:38:06.:38:10.

up for Great Britain. Sophie Bray. Lily Owsley to her left, can they

:38:11.:38:18.

create something here? Looking dangerous, Owsley goes to the

:38:19.:38:22.

backhand shot. It's behind. Started by the interception by Kate

:38:23.:38:26.

Richardson-Walsh. Seeing Great Britain break at speed like that was

:38:27.:38:31.

great. They made simple decisions as well, Helen Richardson-Walsh rolling

:38:32.:38:35.

the ball to Sophie Bray. And fantastic skills near the circle

:38:36.:38:39.

edge by Owsley, couldn't get the backhand shot away. Just over six

:38:40.:38:49.

minutes left in the first quarter, no score here in this Olympic

:38:50.:38:54.

semifinal, 0-0. Georgie Twigg. Crista Cullen. Kate

:38:55.:39:02.

Richardson-Walsh. A for Hannah Macleod. New Zealand now back up to

:39:03.:39:10.

11, Kayla Whitelock has made our way to the dugout for her break, her

:39:11.:39:14.

place taken by Samantha Charlton, the number 13.

:39:15.:39:20.

Stacey Michelsen for New Zealand. Shadowed all the way by Lily Owsley.

:39:21.:39:29.

Michelsen has made a lot of yardage, she's fast and strong. She's fed

:39:30.:39:33.

that down the line to Charlotte Harrison. Harrison rocked by Sam

:39:34.:39:44.

Quek. -- robbed. Anita McLaren has possession for New Zealand, tries to

:39:45.:39:48.

lift it over Nicola White. Great Britain's ball.

:39:49.:40:04.

Bit of a slip-up from the captain, Kate Richardson-Walsh, the captain.

:40:05.:40:09.

Threatening, Great Britain have conceded a penalty corner. Confusion

:40:10.:40:19.

in the Great Britain circle. Kate Richardson-Walsh looking for a long

:40:20.:40:22.

slap pass out of defence. Unfortunately got caught in two

:40:23.:40:29.

reminds. Not often you see her make those kinds of mistakes. New Zealand

:40:30.:40:34.

have got threats particularly in any to McLaren, the 32, on the right of

:40:35.:40:38.

the picture now. She has worked really hard on penalty corner

:40:39.:40:43.

flicking routine, and proves you don't have to be big and strong

:40:44.:40:48.

necessarily to actually be a corner specialist. We look out for McLaren

:40:49.:40:52.

and possibly Thompson, the number 60. It's come to Thompson. It's

:40:53.:41:01.

wide. They were probably aiming for Gemma Flynn in the picture there, no

:41:02.:41:06.

right post. Really well executed, Gemma Flynn's got to have her stick

:41:07.:41:11.

on the floor, no doubt about that in my mind. Doesn't matter whether Liz

:41:12.:41:14.

Thomson's on their tissue to score, if you're coming in on that

:41:15.:41:19.

deflection, you've got to have your stick on the floor, simple tap in

:41:20.:41:23.

there for Gemma Flynn. The fiance of the great Richie McCaw. Possibly the

:41:24.:41:29.

finest New Zealand rugby player, rugby union player, of all time. Is

:41:30.:41:33.

in the stand somewhere apparently supporting this evening.

:41:34.:41:37.

Intercepted, good for New Zealand as Flynn picks it up and gets to the

:41:38.:41:41.

end of the circle. Richardson-Walsh makes no mistake this time, this is

:41:42.:41:44.

good interplay on the left flank, Anna MacLeod has got control, she's

:41:45.:41:52.

got Danson to her left. Danson towards Annesley, towards the

:41:53.:41:56.

circle. Owsley should get there again. New Zealand get there first.

:41:57.:41:58.

-- Ansley. Almost away, Lily Owsley. That ran straight through Susannah

:41:59.:42:24.

Townsend's legs, but it's fallen kindly for Lily Owsley. Who has

:42:25.:42:27.

drifted into the circle and out again. Nicola White missed hers on

:42:28.:42:34.

the left. Gemma Flynn fires that inside. New Zealand coming forward

:42:35.:42:42.

at pace. Smith. Smith to the edge. They've got a shot on Goldust no,

:42:43.:42:47.

it's wide again! Betrayer Webster with the effort, which was wide of

:42:48.:42:53.

Maddie Hinch's goal. -- Petrea Webster. A snapshot by Webster, Kate

:42:54.:43:01.

Richardson-Walsh just manages to get herself back in there and possibly

:43:02.:43:04.

put her off. Who is marking Gemma Flynn on the far post? Can't give

:43:05.:43:09.

her too many opportunities or she will put one in. Beautiful pass from

:43:10.:43:18.

Danson to Sophie Bray. She was the meat in a black sticks and which

:43:19.:43:21.

there, but she's done OK. Penalty corner. -- black sticks sandwich.

:43:22.:43:31.

Quick free hit. She saw the umpire's decision, rolls the ball to Danson,

:43:32.:43:36.

and to her favourite backhand command of the left shin guard of

:43:37.:43:38.

Stacey Michelsen, the first penalty corner to Great Britain. Kate

:43:39.:43:49.

Richardson-Walsh was in the huddle, she has headed back to her own half.

:43:50.:43:54.

It leaves Crista Cullen and Giselle Ansley poised to try and get Great

:43:55.:44:00.

Britain on the scoresheet. The injection will come from Hannah

:44:01.:44:05.

Macleod. Laura Unsworth would normally have the trapping duties.

:44:06.:44:07.

We'll see what follows. :. Saved. Sally Rutherford but was

:44:08.:44:19.

alert, got down shop to her right, pushed it wide. -- Crista Cullen.

:44:20.:44:26.

It'll give Sally Rutherford confidence, she's the first

:44:27.:44:31.

goalkeeper to make a saving the game with two minutes left the clock.

:44:32.:44:36.

Four periods of 15 minutes to give us a match time of one hour, if they

:44:37.:44:40.

are level at the end of the hour we'll have a penalty shoot out. We

:44:41.:44:44.

had one in the Germany Netherlands semi-earlier. Great Britain

:44:45.:44:48.

threatening. Whitelock is there to clean up for the black sticks.

:44:49.:44:51.

Didn't go very far. Blocked by Kate Richardson-Walsh.

:44:52.:45:02.

A good pass from Hollie Webb, because she was under pressure.

:45:03.:45:12.

Foul, Laura Unsworth on the opposite side of the peel. Two world-class

:45:13.:45:17.

passes by Hollie Webb, one out to Crista Cullen. Important to know

:45:18.:45:20.

what to do with the ball before you receive it for that reason. She was

:45:21.:45:27.

closed down by two, three players and she had the calmness to roll it

:45:28.:45:29.

out to the left-hand side. Nicola White ran into trouble. New

:45:30.:45:38.

Zealand regain possession. Sally Rutherford again. Probably

:45:39.:45:57.

closer than I first thought it was. The last 30 seconds of the quarter.

:45:58.:46:03.

New Zealand looking dangerous once again. Hollie Webb with the block.

:46:04.:46:08.

New Zealand still have time in the first period to create something.

:46:09.:46:15.

Time is running out quickly, though. They still haven't taken the free

:46:16.:46:21.

hit but now they get cracking. Laura Unsworth slaps it down.

:46:22.:46:28.

15 minutes done. No goals. Rishi. A couple of good chances for New

:46:29.:46:41.

Zealand. When they got a chance they looked dangerous. They got a penalty

:46:42.:46:46.

corner and that was an opportunity for Gemma Flynn. As a defensive unit

:46:47.:46:50.

you cannot cover everything but there was no post a man on that side

:46:51.:46:55.

of the goal. Flynn should have taken the lead for New Zealand. Chances at

:46:56.:47:00.

the time were few and far between but they had another chance quickly

:47:01.:47:06.

after. Webster has a shot and does not connect. Flynn on the back post.

:47:07.:47:11.

Get in those positions, sooner or later you will take a chance and tap

:47:12.:47:16.

it in. Looking at how the teams are set up, GB look comfortable in their

:47:17.:47:21.

own half, pushing forward, but when New Zealand attack, they looked like

:47:22.:47:26.

they have more pace. They are happy to sit back. Great Britain have

:47:27.:47:31.

probably had more possession and had chances around the edge of the

:47:32.:47:35.

Circle but when they turn it over, the pace of New Zealand and support

:47:36.:47:40.

running has caused the GB defence problems. Is there any sign of any

:47:41.:47:45.

nerves? We saw a rare lapse from Kate Richardson-Walsh. It was a lack

:47:46.:47:51.

of decision-making in the circle, it was fleeting and forgotten. At the

:47:52.:47:56.

moment there is good ball-handling, technical skill and a good pace. You

:47:57.:48:00.

hope it will not come from a mistake but we have not seen many mistakes.

:48:01.:48:05.

There will be a four minute break because of the heat and we have more

:48:06.:48:09.

time to talk through what has been happening will stop I wanted to talk

:48:10.:48:14.

about the form of the players and I mentioned everybody was on form.

:48:15.:48:22.

From Maddie Hinch in goal. Crista Cullen, Richardson-Walsh. Alex

:48:23.:48:26.

Danson. Have you seen that, in your time, a squad at the Olympics, men

:48:27.:48:32.

or women, looking like that? In short, no. The Olympics is an

:48:33.:48:37.

unbelievable competition and quite often you see the emotion of it

:48:38.:48:42.

affecting players. They can be world-class at everything else but

:48:43.:48:45.

you bring them in the Olympic environment and the village and the

:48:46.:48:48.

superstars that surround it and it affects them stop here, Great

:48:49.:48:53.

Britain have shut themselves off, going into the competition as a

:48:54.:48:59.

unit, doing a social media ban. Is influencing their performance and

:49:00.:49:02.

they have been outstandingly consistent. New Zealand coming back

:49:03.:49:07.

on. Danny Kerry, what you think is the message he wants to get across?

:49:08.:49:12.

Reduce the turnover ball. At times Great Britain carried it into

:49:13.:49:20.

contact. There -- the decision-making has been good at

:49:21.:49:24.

times. Don't let them transfer. Do the legwork from forward to prevent

:49:25.:49:29.

the outward pass going back and transferring the ball.

:49:30.:49:33.

That is hopefully what they will do. We had a four minute break, usually

:49:34.:49:37.

two minutes between the first and second periods, because of the heat.

:49:38.:49:38.

Back to the commentary box. The players are out one minute

:49:39.:49:48.

before the restart time. They are clearly eager to carry on. The four

:49:49.:49:54.

minute break was introduced in the semifinal played at midday. It was a

:49:55.:50:00.

strange decision with the schedule, a semifinal at midday and one at

:50:01.:50:06.

five. That had people questioning the schedulers. I am one of those.

:50:07.:50:11.

It should be about the athletes are not necessarily anything else. For

:50:12.:50:16.

the Germans, it was their second game at midday and I think it

:50:17.:50:20.

possibly has knocked it out of them for the matches on Friday. It might

:50:21.:50:25.

be winter here but we had temperatures in the mid-30s this

:50:26.:50:30.

afternoon. More manageable now. Six seconds on the clock before the

:50:31.:50:35.

restart and no score. 0-0. Great Britain still attacking the goal.

:50:36.:50:41.

They do not change ends until half-time. Looking for an escape

:50:42.:50:45.

route down the right-hand flank. Hollie Webb has Ansley to her left

:50:46.:51:03.

but she went back to Kate Richardson-Walsh, who sent it two

:51:04.:51:05.

thirds the length of the picture and it went straight to a New Zealand

:51:06.:51:09.

stick but the damage was rectified. Lilli Owsley, at pace. Sophie Bray

:51:10.:51:18.

did well and got to the circle and then ran out of room. Sophie Bray

:51:19.:51:25.

was phenomenal against Spain and deserve to be voted by the public as

:51:26.:51:31.

GB player of the match. Great pass from Laura Unsworth,

:51:32.:51:39.

fouled Owsley. No red stick to apply the finishing touch. Sophie Bray

:51:40.:51:45.

could not have been too far away from that cross. A fantastic

:51:46.:51:51.

delivery and Owsley did well to roll the defender. Sophie Bray did the

:51:52.:51:53.

right thing, attacking the space. Sam Quek with the free hit. Many of

:51:54.:52:07.

the New Zealand fans are dressed in black stop it must've been a hot day

:52:08.:52:11.

for those out in the midday sun dressed in black.

:52:12.:52:20.

Good skills from Sam Quek who has kept Great Britain in possession.

:52:21.:52:26.

Owsley coming in from the right this time. It is a busy start to the

:52:27.:52:33.

second period from Lilli Owsley. Both teams are doing well, defending

:52:34.:52:38.

the edge of the circle. I think they have both realised corners could be

:52:39.:52:45.

a threat. Charlotte Harrison having the chance to move clear but hounded

:52:46.:52:51.

every step by Sophie Bray. Great interplay between Helen

:52:52.:52:58.

Richardson-Walsh Andy Leigh Owsley. That means Great Britain have a

:52:59.:53:03.

penalty corner. Some of the Black Sticks feel there was a third party

:53:04.:53:11.

on Michelsen before Helen Richardson-Walsh put the ball on

:53:12.:53:16.

Brooke Neal's foot but they have not gone to the referral also a second

:53:17.:53:19.

corner to Great Britain and a fantastic opportunity to register

:53:20.:53:20.

something on the board. The target players this time, Kate

:53:21.:53:35.

Richardson-Walsh, and Giselle Ansley. In fact Kate

:53:36.:53:37.

Richardson-Walsh has stepped away and so Laura Unsworth is loitering

:53:38.:53:43.

will stop let's see what Great Britain can produce.

:53:44.:53:47.

Unsworth! A great effort. The shot at goal was too high. The

:53:48.:54:03.

decision came from Michelle Joubert. Because it was a slap by Laura

:54:04.:54:10.

Unsworth the ball has to go back at board height. It is a tough call to

:54:11.:54:15.

make. From the angle they had, that is what they felt. Good to see Great

:54:16.:54:21.

Britain just accepting the decision. Nothing could have happened, it was

:54:22.:54:25.

not as if they corner had been awarded. Kirsten Pearce in the

:54:26.:54:35.

circle will stop no penalty corner. Can Britain break quickly through

:54:36.:54:44.

Sophie Bray on the right? Can she threaded through? Helen

:54:45.:54:47.

Richardson-Walsh gets a stick on the ball and gets inside the circle.

:54:48.:54:51.

Finally tackled by the New Zealand defence, who took four, five seconds

:54:52.:55:00.

to rob Richardson-Walsh of the ball. It was four, five players as well.

:55:01.:55:05.

That is what Helen Richardson-Walsh brings to the game, it forces teams

:55:06.:55:10.

to double up on her. It means there has to be a British player free

:55:11.:55:12.

somewhere on the pitch. That was watched well by Nicola

:55:13.:55:34.

White, who let it into action to pick that up.

:55:35.:55:52.

Crista Cullen can send it into New Zealand's half, where she finds

:55:53.:56:00.

Nicola White. A promising build-up from Great

:56:01.:56:01.

Britain. Unsworth spotted the space and made

:56:02.:56:27.

a dash, looking for Shona McCallin. Now Great Britain are inside New

:56:28.:56:32.

Zealand's 23. Alex Danson was calling for it in the circle.

:56:33.:56:39.

It would have been a mighty pass from Crista Cullen to find her so

:56:40.:56:47.

probably the right option not to. Taken left-handed out of the air,

:56:48.:56:55.

beautifully done by Crista Cullen. On the deck but no foul. New Zealand

:56:56.:57:02.

rampaging forward. Sam Quek and Alex Danson go back to defend. See how

:57:03.:57:07.

hard New Zealand are working in defence, moment Alex Danson picked

:57:08.:57:11.

up the ball, they are working hard to try to win the ball is high up

:57:12.:57:20.

the pictures they can. -- pitch will stop Owsley claimed she was

:57:21.:57:25.

obstructed and she was. Penalty corner given. Owsley using pace

:57:26.:57:34.

well. An absolute nightmare. I think Keddell blatantly blocks Lilli

:57:35.:57:37.

Owsley, putting the shoulder across the body. Owsley was away. The

:57:38.:57:46.

correct decision. I am asked why it is not a card as well if it is

:57:47.:57:50.

upgraded as a penalty corner but a lot of umpires feel that upgrading

:57:51.:57:56.

it to a penalty corner is enough penalty for the team.

:57:57.:58:02.

Crista Cullen and Nicola White could potentially get involved here.

:58:03.:58:13.

Saved, but pushed home and Alex Danson gets the first goal of the

:58:14.:58:19.

match for Great Britain. So often you see it on penalty

:58:20.:58:23.

corner rebounds, the strikers anticipate the rebound will stop

:58:24.:58:28.

Sally Rutherford did well to make the initial save from Crista Cullen

:58:29.:58:33.

but Alex Danson was quickest to it and flicks the ball over. I think

:58:34.:58:39.

Brooke Neal gets half a touch on it. It is Brooke Neal that puts it into

:58:40.:58:44.

the back of the net but because the touch came off Alex Danson last, she

:58:45.:58:49.

will be credited with the goal. It will be her fourth of the games.

:58:50.:58:57.

Less than nine minutes to half-time. That last, Great Britain, following

:58:58.:59:05.

their long sustained periods of pressure, get the reward. Now they

:59:06.:59:10.

have to be alert because the Black Sticks will be determined to strike

:59:11.:59:17.

back. And to strike back quickly. Maddie Hinch, right foot stuck out.

:59:18.:59:22.

Alex Danson is back to tidy things up, having just got on the

:59:23.:59:26.

scoresheet, she is back defending and sets up the next forward move

:59:27.:59:29.

for Great Britain. Brilliant. New Zealand said that towards the

:59:30.:59:44.

Great Britain circle. Laura Unsworth hat to watch it carefully.

:59:45.:59:51.

This is the opportunity. Sophie Cocks comes through and Flynn takes

:59:52.:59:59.

the ball in the air. Split grip backhand shot because she did not

:00:00.:00:03.

have time to go for the big wind-up and Maddie Hinch makes her first

:00:04.:00:07.

save of the game. New Zealand continue to threaten. Hannah Macleod

:00:08.:00:13.

in the right place at the right time. She can bring it forward for

:00:14.:00:24.

Great Britain. Taking quickly by Michelsen. Harrison on the right now

:00:25.:00:28.

for New Zealand, but they want it taken again. MacLeod watching

:00:29.:00:41.

Mickelson. Wordwrap from Cox. -- April a trap from Cocks. Plenty of

:00:42.:00:52.

Great Britain supporters in the Deodoro Stadium tonight. It's a

:00:53.:01:03.

colourful scene. Attempted aerial ball was slightly scuffed from New

:01:04.:01:08.

Zealand but they still have possession. Bit of a missed attempt

:01:09.:01:12.

from Thompson. This time they've left it for Kayla Whitelock, 250

:01:13.:01:20.

appearances for New Zealand. Michelsen. Unsworth. Quickly away.

:01:21.:01:29.

Feeds that perfectly to Susannah Townsend. Townsend knocks it on.

:01:30.:01:39.

Owsley couldn't quite guided back towards Thomson. Cocks has beaten

:01:40.:01:47.

Unsworth. New Zealand with two Blackshirts in the circle, they

:01:48.:01:54.

needed it delivered quickly. Olivia Merry Mr trap. Sam Quek takes it

:01:55.:02:00.

away from the dangerous Susannah Townsend. Quek. There will naturally

:02:01.:02:14.

be a few missed traps, it's an Olympic Games semifinal, though

:02:15.:02:16.

these teams have been there before in London, there is still so much at

:02:17.:02:26.

stake. A good period of pressure from New Zealand. Unsworth gets her

:02:27.:02:34.

stick in the way. Stacey Michelsen eventually runs out of her. The New

:02:35.:02:43.

Zealand coach talking on the walkie-talkies. Lots of noise in the

:02:44.:02:52.

stadium tonight. Under five minutes left in the first half, New Zealand

:02:53.:03:01.

0- one Great Britain. Whitelock. Good work from Sophie Cocks.

:03:02.:03:15.

Brought the Black Sticks back because the infringement took place

:03:16.:03:21.

outside the 23. Left foot clearance this time from Maddie Hinch.

:03:22.:03:40.

Michelsen send it back to Kayla Whitelock. New Zealand switched

:03:41.:03:46.

sides, now they are coming down the central channel, bouncing towards

:03:47.:03:50.

the edge of the circle, picked up by Olivia Merry. New Zealand working

:03:51.:03:58.

their way through. Unsworth is there, sensed that border the

:03:59.:04:01.

halfway line. A few more seconds tick away until the half-time

:04:02.:04:10.

hooter. New Zealand with plenty more opportunities to get inside the

:04:11.:04:14.

Great Britain circle. It cleared by Kate Richardson-Walsh. Here they

:04:15.:04:21.

come again. Townsend, a little push in the back of the New Zealand

:04:22.:04:27.

attack. No call from the umpire. Now Lily Owsley missed the next touch.

:04:28.:04:33.

Michelsen takes it quickly, she's lively, left-hand skill from

:04:34.:04:36.

Michelsen looking to go through the legs of Richardson-Walsh. Black

:04:37.:04:43.

Sticks are going to get back into this, Stacey Michelsen will have a

:04:44.:04:46.

fairly big role to play, she starts the game at right defender but don't

:04:47.:04:50.

be surprised to see her wander around all over the pitch.

:04:51.:04:54.

Dangerous, Great Britain getting their feet out of the way. But now

:04:55.:04:58.

the penalty corner is conceded. Georgie Twigg got foot on ball. Had

:04:59.:05:07.

her dancing feet on trying to avoid the ball hitting her foot, fair play

:05:08.:05:12.

to Sophie Cocks that she remained calm and rolled the ball onto the

:05:13.:05:19.

right foot. Second corner to New Zealand. Anita McLaren on the pitch,

:05:20.:05:23.

she didn't take the first opportunity, it was Liz Thompson

:05:24.:05:28.

dragging to the art to deflection. We'll keep an eye on Anita McLaren,

:05:29.:05:34.

the number 32. Liz Thompson, 16, also potentially might get involved

:05:35.:05:42.

in this. Penalty corner, New Zealand's second of the first half.

:05:43.:05:51.

Good effort, but wide. I'm going to be harsh but it's criminal not a the

:05:52.:05:57.

shot on target, she's whipped that, picked the ball up and used her body

:05:58.:06:01.

weight to whip the ball around, to go to Maddie Hinch's stick side.

:06:02.:06:08.

There was a player there, had it been Hinch, possibly would have been

:06:09.:06:09.

taken by the post player. Two minutes left in the half. It's

:06:10.:06:24.

been a tense ten minutes for Great Britain, they've been defending

:06:25.:06:28.

constantly. Now, can they finished the first half on a positive note?

:06:29.:06:31.

They are in New Zealand territory now. Danson flicks it forward. It's

:06:32.:06:40.

held up. Not taken from the right place again. : Cullen all the way

:06:41.:06:51.

back to Kate Richardson-Walsh and Hollie Webb down the central channel

:06:52.:06:52.

to Laura Unsworth. Aerial ball. Susannah Townsend in

:06:53.:07:24.

the circle. She shoots, it's blocked. Great ball by Crista Cullen

:07:25.:07:33.

to aerial the ball to the other side for Susannah Townsend, great first

:07:34.:07:37.

touch, put it into the circle. Has a shot at goal blocked by the New

:07:38.:07:45.

Zealand defender. How eager will New Zealand be to launch one more attack

:07:46.:07:53.

with 30 seconds left on the clock? Down the left side.

:07:54.:08:03.

Great Britain's ball. They are in no hurry to restart here. Crista Cullen

:08:04.:08:15.

with ten seconds remaining in the half, send this deep into New

:08:16.:08:20.

Zealand territory. This will take us to the half-time hooter. Really good

:08:21.:08:26.

first half. Great Britain are leading New Zealand 1-0. STUDIO: In

:08:27.:08:34.

the first period New Zealand had some great chances but the goal has

:08:35.:08:38.

gone to Great Britain. Alex Danson taking advantage.

:08:39.:08:42.

The attack have an advantage because they are stepping in towards the

:08:43.:08:47.

goalkeeper. First flick, Crista Cullen, as sharp as it could have

:08:48.:08:54.

been. Danson on hand, getting in the thick of things, touching over the

:08:55.:08:58.

goalkeeper. Got a defensive touch, but not enough to prevent it going

:08:59.:09:03.

in. GB deserving of the lead? No, only because they've played with

:09:04.:09:06.

good intensity and possession but every time New Zealand get it at

:09:07.:09:10.

this moment, they look so dangerous coming forward. Several

:09:11.:09:15.

opportunities. If Great Britain continue to give up that much

:09:16.:09:19.

possession, New Zealand will get something out of this. He'll

:09:20.:09:23.

probably have a completely front opinion. I've been wrong on my

:09:24.:09:27.

predictions. You'll be happy with the ball carrying and possession,

:09:28.:09:32.

technical skills, it's just the turnover, it appears to mean New

:09:33.:09:35.

Zealand can get five, ten, 15 yards of good position high up the pitch,

:09:36.:09:39.

putting Great Britain under too much deep pressure. As things stand,

:09:40.:09:42.

Great Britain leading 1-0, 30 minutes away from a first Olympic

:09:43.:09:44.

final. I know, but Simon is right, it's

:09:45.:09:53.

going to be a very tense third and fourth quarter, New Zealand look so

:09:54.:09:57.

good, 1-0 is a narrow lead. Before the third quarter starts we have

:09:58.:10:00.

time to catch up on boxing, the gold medal fight in the welterweight

:10:01.:10:05.

category. Uzbekistan have already won boxing gold at these games.

:10:06.:10:15.

Ronald McIntosh with better pronunciations and the final round.

:10:16.:10:26.

Into the third and final round of the men's 69 kilogram gold-medal

:10:27.:10:35.

bout. The man in red after his man with his hands by his side, saying,

:10:36.:10:44.

come on, fight me. He is Shakhram Giyasov, frustrated because he

:10:45.:10:47.

cannot get the man in blue to stand still. When he holed his feet for a

:10:48.:10:50.

fraction of a second, he's invariably poking out a straight

:10:51.:10:55.

shot. A port left court Shakhram Giyasov a few moments ago. Is

:10:56.:11:00.

frustrated, but there is more than one way to skin a cat. This is why

:11:01.:11:04.

he's one of the best boxers in the world, this in blue. He is

:11:05.:11:09.

frustrating his opponent. His standing and trading now, this

:11:10.:11:16.

should suit Giyasov. He is being made to miss. The head unable to be

:11:17.:11:20.

targeted effectively by Giyasov, putting an awful lot into his

:11:21.:11:24.

punches. In the meantime, look at that again, being made to miss.

:11:25.:11:29.

Yeleussinov countering, we'd seen him do this on occasion before,

:11:30.:11:34.

standard box the other man's fight, he did in the semifinal, we've seen

:11:35.:11:38.

it in World Series boxing, he's doing it again. Letting Giyasov know

:11:39.:11:41.

he is the governor in every facet of the game. He may have done this in

:11:42.:11:50.

defiance, Yeleussinov, if you want it that way, let's go. He's boxing

:11:51.:11:56.

better than his opponent at his opponent's style of boxing.

:11:57.:12:01.

Yeleussinov demonstrating he can box on the outside, now standing toe to

:12:02.:12:05.

toe. It should suit the man in red, can he land the big shot? The

:12:06.:12:13.

mouthpiece has been dislodged. The mouthpiece of Giyasov. Just beyond

:12:14.:12:16.

the midpoint of the third and final round. The Karezak fans almost

:12:17.:12:22.

counting down the clock. Because Yeleussinov is getting closer to

:12:23.:12:27.

joining the ranks of the all-time greats. -- the fans from Kazakhstan.

:12:28.:12:36.

They have dominated the division, haven't they, the last three

:12:37.:12:40.

Olympics? Now it looks like a mess Giyasov can find the knockout shot,

:12:41.:12:44.

they are going to get it again, lovely head movement. We've seen it

:12:45.:12:48.

from a couple of the Kazakhstan boxers, especially when they have

:12:49.:12:51.

been on the ropes, they've been taught defensive work, which is

:12:52.:12:57.

great to see. Boxing superbly now, standing and trading. A good

:12:58.:12:58.

performance from the context -- from the Kazakhstan fighter. He's

:12:59.:13:15.

making the man miss. Principally getting the better of the exchange.

:13:16.:13:19.

Giyasov desperately working away, trying to find the finishing shot.

:13:20.:13:23.

There is a right hand, then another left, that causes Yeleussinov to

:13:24.:13:27.

become disorganised. When you adopt the laid-back as he does, sometimes

:13:28.:13:32.

when a shot lands, it can be accentuated look more effective than

:13:33.:13:38.

it is. Furious exchange in the closing seconds, but there can be

:13:39.:13:41.

little doubt that Kazakhstan will extend their fantastic record in the

:13:42.:13:45.

welterweight division in the Olympic boxing ring. By making it four wins

:13:46.:13:48.

in a row. Tremendous performance from

:13:49.:13:59.

Yeleussinov because right at the end he had to take a couple of big

:14:00.:14:00.

rounds. ANNOUNCER: ladies and gentlemen, the

:14:01.:14:17.

winner by unanimous decision... In the blue corner, representing

:14:18.:14:26.

Kazakhstan, Yeleussinov! Yeleussinov is absolutely ecstatic. At being

:14:27.:14:31.

announced as the welterweight Olympic champion. Here in Riocentro

:14:32.:14:38.

Pavilion six, terrific display. His fans are jubilant. And he is

:14:39.:14:44.

absolutely overcome with emotion. A warm embrace of congratulations from

:14:45.:14:48.

his coaching staff. They provided the tactics and he carried them out

:14:49.:14:51.

in the boxing ring, and Kazakhstan join Cuba at the International

:14:52.:14:59.

Olympic Committee to make it four wins in a row. The win gives

:15:00.:15:05.

Kazakhstan their third gold medal of the games, the others in

:15:06.:15:07.

weightlifting and swimming. They draw level with Brazil on three gold

:15:08.:15:11.

medals. Speaking of the host nation they feature in today's headlines.

:15:12.:15:19.

Brazil have reached the men's football gold medal match and will

:15:20.:15:26.

play in the final on Saturday evening. Neymar scored twice as the

hosts beat Honduras 6-0. The other semifinal is on BBC Four. Currently

The women's golf tournament got under way and Britain's Charley Hull

:15:59.:16:03.

finished on a three under par 68 and my three shots off the lead.

:16:04.:16:08.

Catriona Matthew, her team-mate, had a level par round.

:16:09.:16:16.

We had been hoping to celebrate Team GB's 20th gold medal, but calm

:16:17.:16:20.

conditions in the sailing mean that Hannah Mills and Saskia Clark have

:16:21.:16:25.

to wait another day to seal the Olympic title in women's 470 class.

:16:26.:16:34.

British diver Tonia Couch has reached tomorrow's semifinals of the

:16:35.:16:38.

10m platform. Team-mate Sarah Barrow did not make it through the

:16:39.:16:41.

preliminary stages. The best news of all is the diving

:16:42.:16:47.

pool is blue again! This is the timetable for the rest

:16:48.:16:53.

of the night. We will be back for the third and fourth quarters of the

:16:54.:16:57.

hockey match between New Zealand and Great Britain. The men's semifinals,

:16:58.:17:05.

the dream team, in basketball, United States taking on Argentina

:17:06.:17:10.

for the right to play Spain in the semifinals. Usain Bolt is back on

:17:11.:17:15.

track at 2am in the semifinals of the 200 metres. Dina Asher-Smith

:17:16.:17:22.

squeaks in for Great Britain but she is there. I am hearing there is a

:17:23.:17:28.

late goal in the Germany and Nigeria men's semifinal in football. Germany

:17:29.:17:41.

on the break. Neil Peterson just got on the end of the cross to score.

:17:42.:17:48.

2-0 with barely any time left at all and it looks like Germany are going

:17:49.:17:53.

into the gold medal match. Can Great Britain make it into their gold

:17:54.:17:58.

medal match in the hockey? They need 1-0 against New Zealand.

:17:59.:18:02.

Here is Max Chilton. I'll come back, everybody. It is tense. You can feel

:18:03.:18:12.

the tension in the air. 30 minutes of hockey remain, two periods of 15

:18:13.:18:18.

minutes. Great Britain now attacking the goal to the right, against the

:18:19.:18:26.

Black Sticks, who trailed 1-0. A gold medal match against the

:18:27.:18:32.

Netherlands is the reward for the winners of this. If it is level at

:18:33.:18:37.

the end of an hour, we will go to a penalty shoot out. New Zealand first

:18:38.:18:44.

to attack in the second half. Kate Richardson-Walsh gets the job done

:18:45.:18:52.

for Great Britain. Beaten by the New Zealander for

:18:53.:18:56.

speed. New Zealand get a penalty corner within a minute of the

:18:57.:19:01.

restart. Kate Richardson-Walsh was left on

:19:02.:19:07.

her own. Olivia Merry did well. It hits the shin pad of Hollie Webb.

:19:08.:19:11.

The foot inside the circle. Correct decision by the umpire. She got

:19:12.:19:19.

herself into the correct position for an umpire. For GB, they left

:19:20.:19:24.

their heads in the changing room and if the Kiwis equalise, it could be

:19:25.:19:28.

game on. They got a wake-up call because New

:19:29.:19:32.

Zealand are poised at the set piece, the penalty corner. Anita MacLaren,

:19:33.:19:37.

the number 32, is the one to watch. That went up into the face mask of

:19:38.:19:51.

Kate Richardson-Walsh. There is another penalty corner coming.

:19:52.:19:59.

Fantastic defending initially. Whitelock slapping the ball, looking

:20:00.:20:04.

for a deflection and Kate Richardson-Walsh did well to stand

:20:05.:20:08.

her ground and get her stick on the ball. We know the stories of London.

:20:09.:20:13.

Once again she is brave. Comes up off her stick and hits her on the

:20:14.:20:18.

side of the head. As unfortunate corner given away, but the correct

:20:19.:20:24.

decision. Two in a row for New Zealand as Great Britain are padded

:20:25.:20:29.

up and get their face masks on ready to defend this. Fourth penalty

:20:30.:20:36.

corner opportunity of the match for the Black Sticks. Kayla Whitelock,

:20:37.:20:42.

good defending again, Crista Cullen so quickly off the goal-line to run

:20:43.:20:47.

down the set piece and get her body in the way. Again, New Zealand

:20:48.:20:54.

looking for options and Kayla Whitelock's slap at goal. Crista

:20:55.:20:58.

Cullen is more than willing to take a ball on the body for her team.

:20:59.:21:07.

From a British perspective, great to see New Zealand looking for options

:21:08.:21:11.

and Anita McLaren not getting the options she is used to having,

:21:12.:21:12.

perhaps. It will be taken again. The umpire

:21:13.:21:27.

once it reset. The umpire reinforcing her decision.

:21:28.:21:33.

Townsend went back as far as Hollie Webb. At for Nicola White to restart

:21:34.:21:43.

on Great Britain's left. Nicola White could not quite get

:21:44.:21:53.

control the second time. Danny Kerry, his eyes glued to the contest

:21:54.:22:00.

unfolding beneath him. He takes his seat in the stands. He does not like

:22:01.:22:05.

to be on the bench. You get a better view up there of the game. He is in

:22:06.:22:11.

radio contact all the time with Craig Keegan on the bench.

:22:12.:22:17.

Alex Danson getting a telling off, we can hear in our headphones, from

:22:18.:22:30.

the umpire at the other end of the field. I think she was passing a

:22:31.:22:38.

message on. Can you please tell the number 20 not to play the ball after

:22:39.:22:40.

the whistle. Helen Richardson-Walsh got the last

:22:41.:22:59.

British touch before New Zealand broke away. They are met by Laura

:23:00.:23:04.

Unsworth, the diminutive Laura Unsworth. Always hard to get around.

:23:05.:23:13.

Anita McLaren is involved. New Zealand trying to press forward,

:23:14.:23:18.

trying to construct something from the back.

:23:19.:23:24.

A good burst forward from Sophie Cocks. Great Britain have done a

:23:25.:23:33.

good job on Anita McLaren at the moment. In both the men's and

:23:34.:23:42.

ladies' squad she is fifth or sixth on the 100 metre sprint time,

:23:43.:23:47.

absolutely rapid. They have done a good job of stopping the ball

:23:48.:23:51.

getting to her and she could become more frustrated as the game goes on.

:23:52.:23:57.

The Black Sticks forced into their own half. Clever play by Kayla

:23:58.:24:02.

Whitelock, who got around Alex Danson.

:24:03.:24:11.

Keddell colliding with Kate Richardson Walsh, I think. Crista

:24:12.:24:19.

Cullen. The physios are being summoned to take a look at Crista

:24:20.:24:27.

Cullen. A nasty collision. Both the physio and Doctor are on with Crista

:24:28.:24:33.

Cullen. An unfortunate injury that Rose Cadell, in full flow, Crista

:24:34.:24:38.

Cullen as low as she can, left hand on the floor, probably taken a need

:24:39.:24:42.

or something to the head. There might be a lung injury. You can see

:24:43.:24:48.

the umpire asking for the bucket on the field so it can be mocked and

:24:49.:24:59.

wiped. -- mopped. One of the tournament judges has come on at the

:25:00.:25:01.

moment. In around five minutes, this match,

:25:02.:25:13.

coverage will switch to BBC Two. You need to be ready with the remote to

:25:14.:25:18.

carry on watching Great Britain's quest to reach the gold medal match

:25:19.:25:20.

at the Olympic hockey tournament. Taking another look at the condition

:25:21.:25:31.

between Crista Cullen and Rose Cadell. Crista Cullen has ice on her

:25:32.:25:36.

head and I think is bleeding. Heading off to be stitched up. The

:25:37.:25:44.

doctor has already stitched up Martin. Quick stitches required for

:25:45.:25:53.

Cullen. The blood team are on to deal with what has been left behind

:25:54.:26:02.

following that nasty prang. It has all gone very quiet. Ten and three

:26:03.:26:07.

quarters minutes left in the third period. The match is for a place in

:26:08.:26:13.

the Olympic final. Coverage will continue in a few minutes on BBC

:26:14.:26:15.

Two. The judges are still holding the

:26:16.:26:30.

restart. One or two spots are still around

:26:31.:26:34.

and water is being applied to the surface. The pitches designed to

:26:35.:26:41.

reflect the Brazilian flag. Still not quite happy with the final

:26:42.:26:54.

clean-up. Cullen will be back before they have finished cleaning up.

:26:55.:26:58.

OK, the restart is now. A bit of space for Shona McCallin to

:26:59.:27:25.

setup Richardson-Walsh. Looking for Sophie Bray.

:27:26.:27:28.

They will build again from the back. Sam Quek has hardly put a foot

:27:29.:28:02.

wrong. There is no reason for Great Britain to do anything bad in a

:28:03.:28:06.

simple game. There is no need to force passes, it is the case of

:28:07.:28:09.

winning the ball and giving it to the player high up the field. That

:28:10.:28:14.

is why they do their conditioning and running work, for moments like

:28:15.:28:19.

this. That was a brilliant pass following an excellent tackle by

:28:20.:28:23.

Georgie Twigg, whose hockey has improved dramatically as the

:28:24.:28:26.

tournament has gone on and her confidence levels have grown.

:28:27.:28:47.

New Zealand restarting from just outside their circle.

:28:48.:28:57.

It was a good tackle from Townsend, who took it up towards the New

:28:58.:29:02.

Zealand Circle, looking for the backhand cross and she just ran out

:29:03.:29:04.

of turf. We are continuing our coverage of

:29:05.:29:11.

the Olympics on BBC Two.

:29:12.:29:19.
