Winning this game, you've got to win the match, semifinal. It's a final

:00:00.:00:00.

The coach saying, back kick. Potential advice there. Alexey

:00:00.:00:24.

Denisenko of Russia, Jaouad Achab the Belgian.

:00:25.:00:35.

Have a left foot in front well your opponent has the opposite, it opens

:00:36.:00:42.

out your chest, gives an angle they can come into, it leaves an opening.

:00:43.:00:48.

None of them wanting to take it on, using that front leg to jab, to

:00:49.:00:54.

cover distance. Does it leave it open for the push kick or the

:00:55.:00:58.

turning kick? Usually the turning kick from the back leg, you want

:00:59.:01:02.

your opponent to rush in which is why you use the back leg. As a wise

:01:03.:01:07.

man once said, where full 's rush in... A little bit too hesitant,

:01:08.:01:18.

there. Holding in the clinch, Jedward Achab, the smaller of the

:01:19.:01:21.

two, that slight blemish on the scoreboard. -- Jaouad Ahsab if it

:01:22.:01:43.

goes to 0-0, then goes to sudden death. Two tumbles against and it is

:01:44.:01:52.

a full point to your opponent. A full back turning kick from

:01:53.:01:55.

Denisenko followed by a head shot. That was a fantastic one. That stand

:01:56.:02:00.

Achab, and he's going to be stung into action here. -- the Russian

:02:01.:02:10.

tries again with a double kick. Achab tries the back kick. That is

:02:11.:02:15.

what I mean about changing the hole game now. Achab all of a sudden

:02:16.:02:20.

realises he has nothing to lose. He's going to come forward, take

:02:21.:02:24.

chances. That means you can leave himself open for Denisenko as well.

:02:25.:02:32.

Taking the chance, Achab goes forward with the punch. Denisenko

:02:33.:02:37.

will take the tumble this time, as we discussed. If he takes one more

:02:38.:02:45.

of those that could be it. Denisenko, covering, moving. That is

:02:46.:02:55.

going to be a second, and that makes it five to the Russian. 5-0, with 15

:02:56.:03:03.

seconds in the third round, one foot in the ring, one foot in the final,

:03:04.:03:09.

Denisenko running away here. Could he run into the Olympic Games final?

:03:10.:03:16.

The Belgian four points down. Goes with the back kick, Denisenko falls.

:03:17.:03:23.

Can Jaouad Ashab find the shot? Can Alexey Denisenko hang on? Goes with

:03:24.:03:28.

the push kick, closes the door. Alexey Denisenko of Russia, he's

:03:29.:03:35.

into the Olympic Games final. Try as he might, Jaouad Ashab, exhausted,

:03:36.:03:42.

nice embrace between the two fighters, but Alexey Denisenko, so

:03:43.:03:47.

professional. He was. He just waited for his time, and Jaouad Ashab knew

:03:48.:03:50.

that it was drifting away from him all the time. Denisenko just did

:03:51.:03:54.

everything right. Good match from him. He got the attacks right at the

:03:55.:04:01.

right time, he got his coordination right, and in the end, he found a

:04:02.:04:08.

way through. We will show you the second semifinal in the taekwondo in

:04:09.:04:13.

a moment. The hockey is now on BBC Two. We showed you the goals on BBC

:04:14.:04:20.

Four, it was an BBC One we told you last, I know this is one of the

:04:21.:04:24.

regular complaints back home about the channel changes, so apologies on

:04:25.:04:29.

behalf of the entire BBC. It is now over on BBC Two. I don't know why I

:04:30.:04:34.

am apologising, nothing to do with me whatsoever. We will show you any

:04:35.:04:39.

more goals that happen. On the Red Button right now, you can see some

:04:40.:04:44.

Greco-Roman wrestling which I think our wonderful security man,

:04:45.:04:52.

Mauricio, he prefers the Greco-Roman wrestling to the taekwondo. Give as

:04:53.:05:01.

a wave, Richie. Occasionally, he smiles. That is the first smile we

:05:02.:05:08.

have got. -- give us a wave, Mauricio. You're Big Star back home.

:05:09.:05:16.

He has been in Brazil for ten days with no trouble from any fans, and

:05:17.:05:22.

then the Brits turn up. Richard says, love the show, thank you very

:05:23.:05:31.

much, how many Caipirinhas have you had? Why don't they do circuits like

:05:32.:05:43.

normal blokes? That is a very good question. The circuit trainers will

:05:44.:05:50.

be here about eight o'clock. That is about two hours. And Anthony Wall

:05:51.:05:54.

Thompson will be among them, ten days on the trot, he has trained. So

:05:55.:06:00.

many of you have been impressed with Eddie, the 73-year-old triathlete.

:06:01.:06:07.

Linda said, not all older people sit around doing nothing. That was a bit

:06:08.:06:19.

ageist on your part. I am well aware that there are older people who get

:06:20.:06:23.

out and about a bit, but I putting in my place on that one. Sharon

:06:24.:06:29.

says, I am 50, I was up at three this morning, I went for a run, I

:06:30.:06:35.

want to be like her. What a fabulous lady Eddie is, said Della. Another

:06:36.:06:43.

viewer says Eddie should be an inspiration to us all, she's never

:06:44.:06:48.

73. And Beverly says, Eddie, what an inspiration. And an absolutely

:06:49.:06:53.

lovely lady. And Naomi sent a nice message, staying in a hotel, breathe

:06:54.:06:58.

a sigh of relief, first night in the hotel and they have BBC Four. I'd do

:06:59.:07:08.

not want to miss out on the Copacabinmen. You can see that the

:07:09.:07:12.

bins are ready for collection. The beach still has quite a few people

:07:13.:07:17.

on it tonight. They would normally be here with a tractor, the sand

:07:18.:07:23.

sifter comes around as well. That was a new development yesterday. Sad

:07:24.:07:28.

news about all of those wanting to do what the kebabs are like. The

:07:29.:07:37.

Copakebabmen, we have been hunting for them. He has a barbecue on his

:07:38.:07:45.

lap in front of them. He barbecues that bad boy right in front of you,

:07:46.:07:50.

and then that cheese is yours. What are we looking at? There is the

:07:51.:07:56.

beach waiter, taking Caipirinhas down the beach. It has got a bit of

:07:57.:08:08.

liquor and some lines in it. I am not sure what the pink drink is. He

:08:09.:08:24.

could do a Copacacocktail! This is a second semifinal in the taekwondo.

:08:25.:08:38.

This is some more marvellous names Ahmad Abughaush of Jordan, taking on

:08:39.:08:42.

Joel Gonzalez of Spain. Ahmad Abughaush won the Asian

:08:43.:08:58.

champions Sandy will champion is back in 2012. -- the Championships.

:08:59.:09:02.

The semifinal here. Taking a nice, leisurely stroll into

:09:03.:09:22.

the centre of the ring. They do look cool, calm and collected. I have got

:09:23.:09:27.

to say. I remember my legs being like jelly. The jumping jacks being

:09:28.:09:34.

performed by Ahmad Abughaush, from Jordan.

:09:35.:09:47.

Joel Gonzalez Bonilla, there. Olympic champion, Gonzalez Bonilla.

:09:48.:10:03.

He studies criminology. Going to have to be absolutely clinical here.

:10:04.:10:17.

The man in the middle is a Canadian, Kim Song Chul. Ahmad Abughaush, from

:10:18.:10:35.

Jordan. Joel Gonzalez Bonilla in red, Ahmad Abughaush, tries again

:10:36.:10:41.

for the head shot there, Abughaush, as he pushes Bonilla onto the back

:10:42.:10:52.

foot. He has a real range of movement, spreading onto the attack.

:10:53.:10:58.

Tries the punch, there, as well. He got a point for it. Great point

:10:59.:11:08.

there, Abughaush on the offensive. He snuck in a little punch and a

:11:09.:11:13.

lovely little turning kick as well. Some nice movement. Some good

:11:14.:11:17.

confidence from Abughaush. One point to the good. Talking about

:11:18.:11:26.

confidence, he does, he comes here ready to fight this, he wants to get

:11:27.:11:29.

through to that final, that is for sure. You can feel it when you're in

:11:30.:11:35.

there fighting as well. A good tactic, jumping up the taller

:11:36.:11:40.

fighter. Changing the visual perception of the fighter, to throw

:11:41.:11:47.

them off guard and fire a shot under the guard. He did it with some

:11:48.:11:52.

success earlier. But that was well blocked by the Spaniard. That is the

:11:53.:11:55.

action and reaction you're talking about. Getting them to make a

:11:56.:12:02.

reaction that they don't want to do. They are putting one foot forward

:12:03.:12:13.

that they don't want to put forward. It has been an engaging first round,

:12:14.:12:18.

and a good one, so far. That will make it a lot better for him, a

:12:19.:12:26.

brilliantly point back kick for the man from Jordan, Ahmad Abughaush.

:12:27.:12:36.

Joel Gonzalez Bonilla, the Olympic champion, four points down in the

:12:37.:12:43.

first round. That was right on the button, wasn't it? Accuracy with the

:12:44.:12:51.

spin and did points, puts him four points ahead, a nice position to be

:12:52.:12:55.

in. And that excellent back kick as well. It was brilliant. Look at

:12:56.:13:01.

that. Spinning around, what a big difference it makes. The overhead

:13:02.:13:07.

shot shows you the distance between them, and here is the technique. It

:13:08.:13:15.

just really hit the target. Everything was right about it, and

:13:16.:13:20.

he knew it. A round of applause for himself. Sometimes, is the only one

:13:21.:13:30.

I ever get! He has the pedigree and experience coming into it. Double

:13:31.:13:35.

world champion, Gold Medal in London, he's going for gold here,

:13:36.:13:41.

against Ahmad Abughaush of the Jordan, Joel Gonzalez Bonilla of

:13:42.:13:49.

Spain. This one, six minutes, to decide. How will the tactics change

:13:50.:14:00.

now? It is a difficult one for Bonilla. He loves to counter attack.

:14:01.:14:05.

But when you are four points ahead, you don't need to go forward.

:14:06.:14:10.

However, Ahmad Abughaush is a very aggressive style of fighter, so he

:14:11.:14:13.

does come in. Good Brouge Kick, there. Bonilla needs to change his

:14:14.:14:21.

stance, throw a bit of difference in, a bit of confusion, and get

:14:22.:14:26.

himself onto the scoreboard. Still plenty of time, though. Tries with

:14:27.:14:33.

his own back kick. Very close. He has come here to fight, hasn't he?

:14:34.:14:40.

Ahmad Abughaush has decided that he is just coming forward all the time.

:14:41.:14:45.

And he is accurate, as well. I totally agree. He closes the door.

:14:46.:14:55.

Seven, to the good. Both back kicks scoring. Both taking a tumble.

:14:56.:15:03.

That was fantastic, this is against the Olympic champion, by the way, so

:15:04.:15:07.

it's real quality, this fighting. He's been tremendous all day,

:15:08.:15:15.

defeated the Olympic silver medallist in the previous round. Now

:15:16.:15:21.

going against Bonilla, Olympic champion, in this semifinal. If I

:15:22.:15:28.

was his coach I'd definitely be saying, don't change this, you are

:15:29.:15:33.

totally dominating this mat, don't change your tactics. It'll be

:15:34.:15:37.

interesting to see what happens in the last few minutes. Still 20

:15:38.:15:42.

seconds to go. Don't change it, he's been so successful so far. If its

:15:43.:15:50.

don't broke, don't fix it, and with ten seconds left, Achab has fixed

:15:51.:15:56.

his eyes on the final. If you can keep the pressure on Gonzales

:15:57.:16:02.

Bonilla. Certainly has. The end of an engrossing second round, talk

:16:03.:16:06.

about quality, the high-scoring technique, the value, the timing you

:16:07.:16:10.

have to throw those techniques, perfection from Achab, and it comes

:16:11.:16:15.

from the mind set. It does, very much so, it is the mindset, he came

:16:16.:16:20.

in, ready to fight, ready to take the fight to him. Look at that,

:16:21.:16:26.

right on the button. Almost there with that one. Almost a double kick,

:16:27.:16:34.

fantastic stuff. Exactly right, throws the first back kick, almost

:16:35.:16:38.

gets the second. At the end of the second round you can see the

:16:39.:16:40.

scoreboard flicker in the background.

:16:41.:16:55.

Toledo giving last minute bits of advice to the Spanish champion Joel

:16:56.:17:05.

Gonzalez Bonilla. The semifinal in the men's 68 kilograms grouping.

:17:06.:17:14.

Ahmad Abughaush. Seven to the good. Abughaush very good reactions, takes

:17:15.:17:18.

his time, back kick attempt from Gonzalez, a push kick straightaway

:17:19.:17:24.

from Abughaush. He said, don't change the tactics. He shouldn't.

:17:25.:17:32.

From everything I've seen, it is how matches are won or lost. He needs to

:17:33.:17:36.

do what he has been doing the whole match, dominating and picking up the

:17:37.:17:38.

points, brilliant stuff will Ahmad Abughaush really performing

:17:39.:17:49.

well here. Joel Gonzalez Bonilla has had kick the potential. Defence so

:17:50.:17:56.

far from the man from Jordan is so good. Here's a big push kick and the

:17:57.:18:03.

Spanish rider is away into the Copacabana, slipped down the side,

:18:04.:18:10.

hope he's OK! -- Spanish fighter. It's quite a steep side on the way

:18:11.:18:16.

down. 8-3. It's a long walk home for him, has to come back up the steps,

:18:17.:18:20.

waiting for him at the top, this man. And coming forward. He's the

:18:21.:18:26.

attack now, Gonzales Bonilla. He's got nothing to lose here now, he can

:18:27.:18:31.

feel his Olympic title is just slipping away from him. Coming up to

:18:32.:18:34.

the last minute. Trying to put on the pressure. Back

:18:35.:18:43.

kick attempt from the Spanish fighter, Gonzales Bonilla. 6-point

:18:44.:18:46.

gap. This is certainly where gamesmanship

:18:47.:19:02.

comes in. I've seen that. This man here, he's taken it up to 12 with

:19:03.:19:08.

another three points. He's been attacking all the way through, is

:19:09.:19:13.

the first one I've seen that has kept an attacking, even being ahead.

:19:14.:19:19.

Absolutely correct, but the tactics right, got the timing right, lands

:19:20.:19:23.

another back kick and he's having an absolute party here at the Carioca

:19:24.:19:27.

Arena 2 stops spinning around the head and body of Gonzales Bonilla,

:19:28.:19:32.

who is heading out of this Olympic Games final contention. Ahmad

:19:33.:19:36.

Abughaush, what a performance, take a head shot on the way through, we

:19:37.:19:40.

know the potential is there for Gonzales Bonilla. The Jordanian

:19:41.:19:47.

looks like he has beaten the Spanish fighter. Ahmad Abughaush finishes

:19:48.:19:49.

with a turning kick. And finishes with real style. Great

:19:50.:20:05.

moment. For athlete and coach. Ahmad Abughaush. His into the Olympic

:20:06.:20:13.

Games final, what a terrific performance from start to finish,

:20:14.:20:18.

just perfect. That was absolute brilliance, wasn't it? I'm not sure

:20:19.:20:21.

whether he scored with that spinning headshot at the end, but he didn't

:20:22.:20:28.

need it, it was brilliant, he absolutely took it to Gonzales

:20:29.:20:32.

Bonilla, took it to him from the very beginning, never stopped, he

:20:33.:20:35.

was always coming forward, didn't need to change his tactics. He

:20:36.:20:39.

absolutely didn't change his tactics. That, I think, won him the

:20:40.:20:45.

match. That was the conversation we had, as we see the combination

:20:46.:20:48.

there. Ahmad Abughaush into the Olympic Games final. He got a plan

:20:49.:20:54.

right, dictated the pace. Gonzales Bonilla took a couple of heavy shots

:20:55.:20:57.

to the head. A very good win. Glad you enjoyed the tae kwon do,

:20:58.:21:09.

that final between Denisenko and Abughaush will take place after

:21:10.:21:15.

Jerry Jones's bout. -- Jade Jones. You can see her at 2am on BBC One.

:21:16.:21:24.

If you are a regular watcher of BBC Four, we love to meet the locals. We

:21:25.:21:29.

had Laura and Pablo playing us out last night, hopefully we will finish

:21:30.:21:33.

the evening with more music. I'd like to introduce our latest

:21:34.:21:42.

Brazilian guest. Lovely to have you on, Meandro. He was in London last

:21:43.:21:48.

week. You are watching BBC Four, this is your hometown, Rio, you said

:21:49.:21:52.

you wanted to come down to see what the fuss was about, what have you

:21:53.:21:56.

made of it? I was walking by, I saw you, I was watching you the whole

:21:57.:22:01.

time last week, so I thought it would be fantastic to say hello, I

:22:02.:22:05.

have to say hello to Dan. I asked this gentleman, he said it was fine.

:22:06.:22:12.

It's been very exciting. You actually saw the Brazilian flavour,

:22:13.:22:18.

how it is, Rio, the atmosphere of the happiness of people. Because I

:22:19.:22:24.

think the Brazilians, especially in Cariappa, they have this way of

:22:25.:22:28.

living, this love of life, life is too celebrate. -- especially in

:22:29.:22:37.

Carioca. We saw a bit of that the other night with Maria and her hen

:22:38.:22:41.

party. You dropped the phrase Carioca in. That is residents of

:22:42.:22:47.

Rio. The Carioca are the people who live in Rio. Being back in Brazil,

:22:48.:22:52.

what do you think the impression of most Brazilians is of the Olympic

:22:53.:22:57.

Games? We've chatted with locals and residents, some things they have

:22:58.:22:59.

complained about, other things they think are positive, what is your

:23:00.:23:05.

impression? The impression is it such a good energy, there has been a

:23:06.:23:12.

hard time we've been having in Brazil at the moment. There have

:23:13.:23:18.

been a lot of political problems around. Everybody's has forgotten

:23:19.:23:24.

about the politics, they are having a good time, typical Carioca. Forget

:23:25.:23:28.

about the problem, let's have a good time. Sounds like a good philosophy.

:23:29.:23:34.

We were showing viewers earlier the fourth gold medal for the Brazilians

:23:35.:23:38.

on the sailing around the corner, the other side of Sugarloaf

:23:39.:23:44.

Mountain, the Brazilian pair who won Gold are still celebrating, they got

:23:45.:23:48.

carried in on their boat, had the medal ceremony, ran around the beach

:23:49.:23:52.

with a flag, it seems every home nation needs those moments, with the

:23:53.:23:59.

Rafaela Elfyn judo, Conceicao in boxing, in pole vault, and in

:24:00.:24:06.

sailing. They are crucial for a host nation to get behind the athletes

:24:07.:24:09.

and celebrate those moments. It's been fantastic, everybody has been

:24:10.:24:16.

welcome, all the nations, showing the world we need to be together.

:24:17.:24:23.

It's about being happy and care about each other, love about each

:24:24.:24:27.

other, and celebration. I just feel like it's our time. Brazil is going

:24:28.:24:36.

to continue to celebrate. For now. These are the sailors, Martine Grael

:24:37.:24:49.

and Kahena Kunze. Look at the crowd. I know there have been lots of

:24:50.:24:53.

people asking questions in the UK about why some of the events are not

:24:54.:24:57.

well attended, but what I have learned, I was here for the World

:24:58.:25:01.

Cup for seven weeks, come back for the Olympics, what I have learned

:25:02.:25:05.

about Brazil is football is king, but if there is potential for a win,

:25:06.:25:11.

Brazilians get behind that person who can give them that victory, they

:25:12.:25:16.

are obsessed with winning here. I think Brazilians are very much into

:25:17.:25:21.

being in the game, having a good time, not really worried about who

:25:22.:25:27.

is going to win. If a Brazilian can win, you really get behind them.

:25:28.:25:34.

It's going to be one year carnival and Samba, definitely, lots of

:25:35.:25:37.

carnival and Samba for the Brazil win. Why were you in London, on

:25:38.:25:42.

holiday? I go to London because London is such an inspiration for

:25:43.:25:49.

me, fashion, very cosmopolitan city, I got the flavour. When I'm in

:25:50.:25:54.

London I feel like I know what's going on in the whole world,

:25:55.:25:58.

basically, there's a lot of culture in London. The British give me

:25:59.:26:04.

always very welcome when I come to the UK. You are a hairdresser. Of

:26:05.:26:08.

course I'm a hairdresser, it's the best career in the whole world, to

:26:09.:26:12.

be a hairdresser, we are the happiest people in the whole world.

:26:13.:26:16.

Do Brazilian headdresses do the same thing that hairdressers do in the

:26:17.:26:20.

UK, do you chat about holidays all the time? Where are you going on

:26:21.:26:26.

holiday? No, here we talk about facts of life, actually. LAUGHTER

:26:27.:26:33.

Welcome to Brazil everybody. It's all about sex, party, drinks and

:26:34.:26:37.

downs, if you are into that, come to Rio. -- and dance. What an

:26:38.:26:44.

invitation that is! When I met you the first time you stayed at the

:26:45.:26:49.

back of my head. What recommendation would you have, would you get the

:26:50.:26:55.

scissors out? Scissors out, definitely. What are you saying,

:26:56.:27:02.

it's terrible? It's like this British way of having a haircut,

:27:03.:27:07.

they are never worried about their look, but they do worry about their

:27:08.:27:10.

look. They always pretend they don't care. Very insightful. Tousled, do

:27:11.:27:18.

they have that word? The other thing I have wanted to ask, did you do

:27:19.:27:22.

that thing in Brazil, you know when you hold the mirror to somebody's

:27:23.:27:26.

head and go, are you happy with that? Has anybody said no. You could

:27:27.:27:30.

have done whatever you like, they would never say no, sort it out,

:27:31.:27:39.

it's shambolic. Yeah... Hairdressers, be a hairdresser is

:27:40.:27:43.

about making people happy. It needs to be a very good talker. That's

:27:44.:27:47.

what I have been learning a lot going to London. You guys are

:27:48.:27:53.

very... With the tour, very persuasive people. You know. You say

:27:54.:27:57.

being a hairdresser is about making people happy, you've made us very

:27:58.:28:02.

happy, thank you. While watching the sailing, won said it was about

:28:03.:28:07.

Samba, can you do it down this camera? Give us a bit of Samba. Look

:28:08.:28:13.

at those shorts as well by the way! They are Rascals. You are making my

:28:14.:28:19.

legs look unbelievably white here. Where is the round of applause for

:28:20.:28:24.

Leandro? Yes, whoop and holler. Pleasure to meet you, thank you very

:28:25.:28:29.

much. Pleasure is all mine. Lovely to see you, Leandro, I might come

:28:30.:28:35.

for a haircut at one stage. Before the wedding, maybe. I know I'm under

:28:36.:28:40.

pressure to come back to Maria's wedding but I can't make it, I don't

:28:41.:28:46.

know what I'm saying... Lets watch some badminton. At these games we're

:28:47.:28:51.

talking about the fact Brazil have won four gold medals, some more

:28:52.:28:55.

expected than others. Team GB have had some really amazing success

:28:56.:29:02.

today in triathlon, gold medal for Alistair Brownlee, silver for Johnny

:29:03.:29:06.

Brownlee, some come as more of a surprise, one of them for Team GB in

:29:07.:29:12.

badminton. Its 2004 since we won a badminton medal at any Olympic

:29:13.:29:17.

Games. We watched a lot of markers Chris language. Today they were

:29:18.:29:23.

involved in their bronze medal match. They are having a giggle and

:29:24.:29:28.

doing Samba in the corner! They were involved in a bronze medal match

:29:29.:29:31.

against the Chinese pair, who were high ranked and heavily fancied.

:29:32.:29:39.

We're going to join it in the decider. The winner of this one

:29:40.:29:43.

takes the bronze medal, enjoyed a badminton.

:29:44.:30:01.

Yes, that work to get Chris language to the net. He really is devastating

:30:02.:30:16.

in the frontcourt area. Marcus Ellis is so good with his variation from

:30:17.:30:23.

the back. That is, in my opinion, their favoured formation. But there

:30:24.:30:30.

is no panic, no worry, even if they get pulled out of that favoured

:30:31.:30:31.

formation. We see the tall, Chinese players

:30:32.:31:01.

having to get download to those disguised drop shots. Desperately

:31:02.:31:02.

difficult. -- get down low. All credit to the British players,

:31:03.:31:54.

because normally I think how wonderful the attacking play is from

:31:55.:31:58.

this Chinese pair, but they haven't really been allowed to attack. When

:31:59.:32:04.

they have put the shuttle in a downward direction the defensive

:32:05.:32:07.

player of both these British players has been equal to it.

:32:08.:32:41.

There's lots of shots being played into the body of Biao Chai all, as

:32:42.:32:56.

it was an application, Wei Hong. How do you get your body count of the

:32:57.:33:02.

way with your long levers, to then give yourself the freedom to play a

:33:03.:33:13.

defensive shot? That was a nervous looking shot, for me, from Chai

:33:14.:33:20.

Biao. The Chinese pair, to me, looked like

:33:21.:34:10.

they are running out of ideas of how to break down the defence of the

:34:11.:34:19.

British combination. What a start in this deciding game. If you are a

:34:20.:34:24.

British fan, you will be delighted. Well, you wonder if the Chinese pair

:34:25.:35:04.

are guilty of thinking, well, we have one that second game, and just

:35:05.:35:08.

relaxed a little, and not kept up the intensity. That said, the

:35:09.:35:14.

British pair have barely put a foot wrong in this deciding game, not so

:35:15.:35:28.

far. That was well played by the Chinese pair.

:35:29.:35:58.

The return of serve just guided in a downward direction, look. And he has

:35:59.:36:11.

taken it when it is well below net height, which means that he has two

:36:12.:36:16.

hit it in an upward direction, and he doesn't want to lift it, so he

:36:17.:36:21.

has blocked it back to the net, but Langridge is there, ready and

:36:22.:36:22.

waiting. I said that the British pair, their

:36:23.:36:48.

defensive play had been equal to dealing with the attack from the

:36:49.:36:53.

Chinese combination, and that rally just proving my point. Absolutely

:36:54.:36:59.

magnificent. He has gone to the net at exactly

:37:00.:37:40.

the right moment once again, Chris Langridge, and he makes it count.

:37:41.:37:47.

His partner depends, he moves forward. Wonderful combination play.

:37:48.:37:54.

-- his partner defends. What can the Chinese pair do in

:37:55.:38:33.

response? They haven't found the answer, so far.

:38:34.:38:50.

The server is wide of the centre line. That is a gift. -- the serve.

:38:51.:39:35.

And the British pair have an 8-point advantage as they change ends in

:39:36.:39:42.

this deciding game. You would have thought before the badminton

:39:43.:39:46.

tournament got underway here in Rio, that they would be in this

:39:47.:39:57.

situation, 11-3 up, deciding game, Ellis and Langridge. The body

:39:58.:40:10.

language of the Chinese players would be of concern, if you are a

:40:11.:40:16.

Chinese fan. And what a contrast to the British players.

:40:17.:40:34.

They are just ten points away from a first ever medal in the men's

:40:35.:40:43.

doubles discipline for British badminton.

:40:44.:40:58.

Two medals for mixed doubles for British players in the past. Good

:40:59.:41:07.

flick served. Very good flick serve and a look from Hong Wei to the

:41:08.:41:11.

service judge, but there was no call.

:41:12.:41:39.

Was that desperation? The trick shot like that between the legs, very

:41:40.:41:52.

rarely does it work. Well, both of the British players

:41:53.:42:13.

are playing better, I think, than I've ever seen them play before.

:42:14.:42:19.

That is magnificent, Crouch defence from Marcus Ellis.

:42:20.:42:42.

Just an indication there from Chris Langridge that they've got to keep

:42:43.:42:53.

it calm, and to keep playing the way that they have played to build this

:42:54.:42:58.

lead. As far as the Chinese players are concerned, they have got to

:42:59.:43:01.

focus on getting on the attack. Phenomenal. They deserve a point,

:43:02.:43:24.

they deserve the rally, the British pair, because they are taking the

:43:25.:43:31.

game to their opponents. Initiating the attack.

:43:32.:43:59.

My word, what a good return of serve.

:44:00.:44:50.

A big gulp of air, a big deep breath from Chai Biao. A good serve, good

:44:51.:45:02.

returns, too. 'S gone longer. And another point

:45:03.:45:24.

nearer the dream becoming reality. For the British players.

:45:25.:46:03.

Yeah, he has been superb at the front of the court today, Chris

:46:04.:46:11.

language. Just enough pace on it to tempt Chai Biao into trying to

:46:12.:46:12.

intercept it. If you are a Chinese firm, you'll be

:46:13.:46:46.

recognising unless the Chinese pair have a one-off points now and start

:46:47.:46:51.

closing the gap, but some psychological pressure on the

:46:52.:46:55.

British pair, chances of them coming through this are slim. That has

:46:56.:46:58.

certainly helped their cause. The body language of Chai Biao after

:46:59.:47:40.

that block into the net tells its own story.

:47:41.:48:01.

All of the sudden I think the enormity of what could be achieved

:48:02.:48:09.

has perhaps hit the British pair suddenly. Looking nervous, looking

:48:10.:48:13.

tentative. That will help settle the nerves.

:48:14.:48:47.

Three points away. From April one is medal at the Olympic Games.

:48:48.:49:20.

And unbelievable smash! Ten opportunities to secure the bronze

:49:21.:49:59.

medal. Challenge. It was called out. The

:50:00.:50:40.

British pair have challenged. They are asking for the instant review.

:50:41.:50:45.

And if the line call is overturned, the bronze medal goes to the British

:50:46.:50:50.

pair of Chris language and Marcus Ellis. -- Chris language. It's in, a

:50:51.:51:06.

bronze medal for the British pair. A first ever medal in the men's

:51:07.:51:11.

doubles. For British players. Marcus Ellis overcome with emotion. They

:51:12.:51:23.

were, quite simply, superb today, Chris Langridge and Marcus Ellis.

:51:24.:51:27.

Brilliant stuff from Ellis and Langridge, a bronze medal, first

:51:28.:51:35.

badminton medal for Team GB since 2004. They'll get it tomorrow

:51:36.:51:38.

because the gold medal match takes place at 3:15pm. After that, the

:51:39.:51:45.

medal ceremony. A few people asking about the little thing you get with

:51:46.:51:48.

your medal, every time you see a medal ceremony, they get the medal,

:51:49.:51:54.

then what somebody called a sort of squashed banana type thing, it

:51:55.:51:56.

doesn't look like a squashed banana in any way, shape or form. It is to

:51:57.:52:05.

replace the bunch of flowers Olympians normally get, it's a 3-D

:52:06.:52:08.

emblem of the games, it's got green, red and blue on it, the colours

:52:09.:52:12.

which were voted for, which Brazilians apparently said

:52:13.:52:18.

represented happiness. It is all it is, a 3-D emblem of the game, most

:52:19.:52:22.

people asking what it is and why it's there. It's to do with the

:52:23.:52:27.

renewable nature of the games, that is the bomb that goes with it, they

:52:28.:52:30.

didn't want to give away flowers, but a memento that says was ill. --

:52:31.:52:39.

says Brazil. It's the first time there has been a 3-D emblem for an

:52:40.:52:42.

Olympic Games, amaze your friends with that statistic. Later we've got

:52:43.:52:47.

live basketball on the way between USA and France, women's basketball.

:52:48.:52:54.

In five minutes. Earlier we were showing you the hockey, Argentina

:52:55.:52:58.

playing hockey in the men's gold medal match. We left when it was 3-1

:52:59.:53:03.

to Argentina, we'll show you the best action from the second half.

:53:04.:53:13.

Really strong step and tackle in the circle. What a goal, what an

:53:14.:53:22.

incredible piece of individual skill. We saw him in the first half

:53:23.:53:28.

tee it up and slash it into the side netting. That is one of the

:53:29.:53:34.

outstanding bits of brilliance in this game so far. Looks up, tucks it

:53:35.:53:41.

inside, into the air, one touch over, feet around, short handgrip,

:53:42.:53:45.

doesn't have time for a long swing, look at the foot rotation. Round,

:53:46.:53:49.

bang, Pastor Vivaldi. -- passed it wide-open goal here. And there it

:53:50.:54:15.

is. Down. 4-2. It was Augustin Mazzilli who had the simplest of

:54:16.:54:20.

opportunities presented to him by the Belgian goalkeeper.

:54:21.:54:25.

Amazing stuff from Argentina, they managed to see off the defending

:54:26.:54:31.

champions, Germany, in the semifinal. 4- to the final score.

:54:32.:54:36.

Their fans were celebrating during the game, players celebrating after

:54:37.:54:42.

the game. They were ranked seventh in the world coming into these

:54:43.:54:45.

Olympic Games and have surpassed their previous best Olympic

:54:46.:54:48.

performance, fifth place in the London games of 1948.

:54:49.:54:56.

Congratulations to Argentina. A well-deserved gold medal in the

:54:57.:55:03.

men's event. Team GB never really clicked into gear. Struggled in the

:55:04.:55:08.

early stages of the pools. The women are involved in the gold medal

:55:09.:55:11.

match, taking on the top-ranked Netherlands side, which will be

:55:12.:55:15.

available for you tomorrow evening on BBC One. Thank you to all of you

:55:16.:55:24.

who have set messages about Leandro, I'm disappointed when he was on I

:55:25.:55:26.

didn't think of a phrase. What's going on

:55:27.:55:43.

on the beach behind me, it's not that, it's just a hug. They are

:55:44.:55:47.

reading a book, apparently they are reading the book. They are reading a

:55:48.:55:53.

book in a strange pose. It's merely a book, we'll find out what the book

:55:54.:55:58.

is, maybe, later on. Not going to go any closer than that. Live

:55:59.:56:03.

basketball for you. USA taking on France. We talked about the dream

:56:04.:56:08.

team and the fact the men's USA side are overwhelming favourites to win

:56:09.:56:11.

the gold at these games. It's the women's team from USA who have a

:56:12.:56:16.

better record, the last six times they have won Olympic gold. They

:56:17.:56:20.

take on France. Commentary on this one comes from Mike Carlson and

:56:21.:56:31.

Victor Sabral. You see the little French basketball

:56:32.:56:47.

Federation penance that will be handed to the US players at

:56:48.:56:52.

mid-court, the US players giving baseball caps with USA basketball on

:56:53.:56:55.

them, this is traditional in international basketball. They have

:56:56.:57:00.

to drop them with the equipment manager. They are here to play

:57:01.:57:04.

basketball, these gifts are another bonus. France will have their work

:57:05.:57:10.

cut out and they know it, there is the French line-up. One of the keys

:57:11.:57:23.

for them will be Gruda and Yacoubou inside. The US backed court is

:57:24.:57:30.

basically bigger than them but probably just as fast. She's got a

:57:31.:57:38.

really tough battle to face the US team, how do you approach the game

:57:39.:57:42.

tactically? It's so important because in the end you realise

:57:43.:57:45.

individually they are playing at the much higher level so tactically you

:57:46.:57:49.

have to be perfect and execute as well. Can this French team do that?

:57:50.:57:53.

They are capable, they are a fantastic side. There is the US

:57:54.:58:04.

side. You've got tall women. Very quick players, who can play guard

:58:05.:58:09.

and forward. And he has a very great point guard in Sue Bird, one of two

:58:10.:58:17.

players on this US team, of three, sorry, going for their fourth

:58:18.:58:22.

consecutive gold medal. Weapons from everywhere, you pressure them

:58:23.:58:25.

outside, they go inside. Pressure inside, they go outside. They

:58:26.:58:31.

average 53 points from the bench, compared to France, 27 points. They

:58:32.:58:37.

are very good side, almost an unstoppable force, but not quite,

:58:38.:58:41.

that is why the French have at least some hope. There is a reason for the

:58:42.:58:45.

high scoring, they have won games by such a margin. The loss to Australia

:58:46.:58:53.

as close, not as close as they would have liked it to be, but they went

:58:54.:58:59.

to qualify. The US haven't have a gross game. Canada by 30 is the best

:59:00.:59:04.

anyone has been able to do, Serbia by 26 put up a bit of a fight. For

:59:05.:59:10.

France, the challenge is going to be whether they try to control the

:59:11.:59:13.

ball, control the pace, which they did in the Olympic final. But they

:59:14.:59:29.

don't have Celine to do that. The US starting line-up, Augustus moves

:59:30.:59:32.

into the starting line-up for Sue Bird, Sue Bird got hurt in the last

:59:33.:59:37.

game and sat out almost three quarters of the game, so they are

:59:38.:59:41.

resting hair. Interesting that Augustus, and not Lindsay Whelan,

:59:42.:59:46.

becomes the starting point guard. Augustus is listed as a forward at

:59:47.:59:52.

six feet tall. Pascual from the Philippines is the referee. The

:59:53.:00:03.

United States guard, Sue Bird, had an MRI scan after the game, they are

:00:04.:00:08.

monitoring from game to game. Interesting they have gone with

:00:09.:00:13.

Augustus, a taller player. That is where the United States have a big

:00:14.:00:17.

advantage, if they can get offensive rebound second or third chances, you

:00:18.:00:20.

can put the French under massive pressure. The US has plenty of tall

:00:21.:00:30.

options. They could put all four out at the same time with either one

:00:31.:00:35.

centre or one point guard, it would make no difference. When you've got

:00:36.:00:39.

that kind of speed and size together, it's hard to stop. Griner

:00:40.:00:45.

the centre. Tina Charles still playing with her protective nose

:00:46.:00:46.

guard. The ageless Sue Bird at point guard,

:00:47.:01:08.

at the age of 35. France in the white, USA in the red. Tina Charles

:01:09.:01:15.

picks it up for the United States. And that is Seimone Augustus.

:01:16.:01:29.

Charles goes round Yakubu. And there is Olivia Epoupa, she's going to be

:01:30.:01:35.

so crucial to France in this match. I don't think there are going to be

:01:36.:01:39.

many lanes opening up for her against the United States. Those are

:01:40.:01:49.

the kind of mistakes you can not afford to make against the US. You

:01:50.:01:52.

don't want to give them extra shots, extra charges at the basket.

:01:53.:02:01.

Charles, with her second shot. Maya Moore drives the baseline. Trying to

:02:02.:02:08.

hit the bottom of the backboard. Already we see the height difference

:02:09.:02:11.

and the French getting nowhere near the offensive rebound. The United

:02:12.:02:17.

States eventually get the ball to go down. Another good pass from

:02:18.:02:29.

Yacoubou, connecting Ayayi. And Ayayi, called with the foul. You saw

:02:30.:02:34.

Maya Moore on the baseline, normally with someone bigger you try to foul

:02:35.:02:39.

them and play close, but you know that if you try that with Maya

:02:40.:02:44.

Moore, she's going to go round it. We saw Yacoubou getting up in the

:02:45.:02:52.

face of Brittney Griner. You have to give Yacoubou a lot of credit for

:02:53.:02:55.

that. She cut of the passing lane and gave Brittney Griner nowhere to

:02:56.:03:05.

go on the baseline. Griner and Charles Way up top. And fadeaway

:03:06.:03:09.

Mrs. The US hold from the floor. Epoupa is a fantastic player. She

:03:10.:03:32.

had to take a fall away, Brittney Griner. She gets the rebound and

:03:33.:03:39.

then draws the foul. Yacoubou has come to play. This is the best

:03:40.:03:42.

couple of minutes I've seen from our Andy Dorman. France need her to

:03:43.:03:48.

dominate in that area. She's doing really well against Brittney Griner

:03:49.:03:52.

so far at both ends of the court. She's not a great shooter, even",

:03:53.:03:57.

but she will draw the foul, and now she has two. And she makes a person.

:03:58.:04:05.

68% from the foul line, not the best record, but certainly not a bad one.

:04:06.:04:16.

Makes the second. Only four points scored in the first two minutes.

:04:17.:04:22.

This is encouraging for brands. The lower scoring the game is the better

:04:23.:04:29.

the chances are, for France. Yacoubou knocks the ball away. She

:04:30.:04:33.

is playing out of her skin right now. It was out of bounds, but look

:04:34.:04:41.

how she celebrated. The US have ten seconds on the shot blocked.

:04:42.:04:49.

Augustus to Maya Moore, who tries to give it to Brittney Griner. Epoupa

:04:50.:05:00.

comes down quickly now. They needed to be on song and that was brilliant

:05:01.:05:04.

play, finished off with the jump shot, Diana Taurasi 43-0. Ayayi hit

:05:05.:05:19.

the rebound from the mess from Diana Taurasi. It was a foul inside. Was

:05:20.:05:28.

it on Yacoubou? We saw Japan making a great start against the US, but it

:05:29.:05:32.

is whether you can keep the consistency going, and if they can

:05:33.:05:36.

they can keep this going and give themselves a real shot. And there is

:05:37.:05:44.

the basket by Ayayi. The foul was on Diana Taurasi before. A four point

:05:45.:05:56.

lead for France, that is great encouragement. Diana Taurasi is. I

:05:57.:06:02.

don't think that the US has been four down in this tournament. Nice

:06:03.:06:15.

move by Ayayi on Maya Moore. Didn't get that quite right. Augustus hits

:06:16.:06:28.

for six. That is what the US do, as soon as they get into a rhythm they

:06:29.:06:32.

knock down the jump shots, and you cannot give them any time at all.

:06:33.:06:41.

Ayayi, Yacoubou for three, she's doing everything for France, that

:06:42.:06:53.

she can. That is the first three-pointer she's hit in the

:06:54.:06:57.

Olympic Games, and what a moment to do it. Charles, crosscourt to Maya

:06:58.:07:10.

Moore. And the shot from Griner goes into the basket and finds its way

:07:11.:07:13.

back out. Both players were clapping. From the

:07:14.:07:35.

foul. The offensive foul called was on Ayayi. She was trying to fight

:07:36.:07:44.

through Seimone Augustus, basically. Epoupa trying to figure this one

:07:45.:07:51.

out. And we have Ayayi coming out for France, having picked up two

:07:52.:08:00.

fouls. Sarah Michelle is one of the better 3-point shooters in this

:08:01.:08:09.

team. Augustus with a real fadeaway. There's Sue Bird. I don't think that

:08:10.:08:22.

Sue Bird will be featuring tonight. Epoupa just got back, and there's

:08:23.:08:26.

going to be a foul on Epoupa, folding. She did take an arm. I

:08:27.:08:38.

don't think it was intentional. It looked inadvertent. But it came

:08:39.:08:41.

right across her, and then she was hanging on for dear life. 9-8,

:08:42.:08:47.

halfway through the 1st quarter, France in the lead. Knock away by

:08:48.:08:54.

Brittney Griner whose trash talking to one of the French players right

:08:55.:08:59.

now. I don't think the US have the same intensity that France do at

:09:00.:09:02.

this point, but of course, a long way to go. Maya Moore hits. They may

:09:03.:09:14.

be missing Sue Bird a little bit. I think that he thought he was going

:09:15.:09:19.

to get some pressure, but when they had to play static it has not been

:09:20.:09:26.

as good. Maya Moore gets a hand on the ball. And the foul was on Michel

:09:27.:09:40.

on the backcourt. You would think that Lindsay Whalen would replace

:09:41.:09:44.

her, but she was a great shooter. When you have got players like that

:09:45.:09:48.

in your team and you are knocking down shots from every position...

:09:49.:09:53.

Lindsay Whalen is a model from the bricklayer. -- is a more deliberate

:09:54.:10:04.

player. She's in with Augustus and with Diana Taurasi. They are going

:10:05.:10:08.

with the slightly smaller and quicker line-up now. And when Maya

:10:09.:10:15.

Moore finds arrange it this trouble. Against Japan she didn't get it

:10:16.:10:18.

until the second half, and once she did, that was lights out. They have

:10:19.:10:32.

to start executing. That pass was from Leticia Kamber. France need a

:10:33.:10:44.

big contribution from the bench. The number five was a starter, end mem.

:10:45.:10:58.

Yacoubou, when she was young and growing up in Benin help the

:10:59.:11:21.

national shot put record. She cant run the hole court for four

:11:22.:11:22.

quarters. She has been averaging 15 minutes

:11:23.:11:38.

per game, compared to the other starters at over 20. That shows how

:11:39.:11:40.

much she needs to be rested. She doesn't have the explosive

:11:41.:12:02.

quickness of Epoupa. Amel Bouderra having to shoot. And Maya Moore

:12:03.:12:11.

brings it down, over two Diana Taurasi. It misses and the rebound

:12:12.:12:22.

comes to Kamba. Up to the 3-point line, and holds it for Amel

:12:23.:12:27.

Bouderra. Nice, good penetration, when it came to her, she got the

:12:28.:12:36.

basket. 14-11 now, the US up by three. Amel Bouderra brings it back

:12:37.:12:53.

for France. It is 14-13. Six points for her now. Just a little look of

:12:54.:13:02.

concern, there. It looked more like a look of disbelief, to be honest.

:13:03.:13:10.

France has gone with the United States, basketball basket. And can

:13:11.:13:19.

Michel out one Maya Moore? Michel will draw the foul in the backcourt.

:13:20.:13:24.

You see what she did. She took the extra step in to let Maya Moore go

:13:25.:13:29.

by. And she lost concentration on the shot. She did everything

:13:30.:13:35.

perfectly until that last point. That is what is crucial in this

:13:36.:13:39.

game. When you play against the United States, it does have to be

:13:40.:13:46.

perfect. Here is Maya Moore at the foul line, shooting the penalty. Now

:13:47.:13:52.

Lindsay Whalen has come in at the point for Augustus. Maya Moore makes

:13:53.:14:00.

them both, she has six points. It'll be interesting to see how the US

:14:01.:14:05.

operates now with Lindsay Whalen on court.

:14:06.:14:18.

Elena Delle Donne and Maya Moore playing the wing now with the force.

:14:19.:14:29.

Nice move by Michel. Angel McCoughtry was there, so quick to

:14:30.:14:34.

recover and get back in front. That pass goes wild. And Angel McCoughtry

:14:35.:14:46.

Mrs, and it is not out of her hands. -- knocked. At this point the

:14:47.:14:53.

rebound is up almost the same. It is 10-8. That will be encouraging for

:14:54.:14:57.

France, with because you would expect the United States to be

:14:58.:14:58.

completely dominant. camber catching is replaces more for

:14:59.:15:12.

the US. Just missed getting the ball away from Delle Donne. Ciak has just

:15:13.:15:20.

come in, the tallest of the French at six foot six, one metre 97.

:15:21.:15:32.

Michel decides to drive. A 1-point game with just over a minute to play

:15:33.:15:36.

in the first quarter. Great stuff from France to be shooting baskets,

:15:37.:15:41.

getting them to drop, so important. Keep in touch with the United States

:15:42.:15:48.

here, encouraging for them. Whalen gets the high screen, comes around

:15:49.:15:56.

it and drives. Of the glass, nice rebound by Fowles. 18-15. Bouderra

:15:57.:16:09.

brings it up for France. Kamba, Michel, now gives it to Bouderra.

:16:10.:16:18.

Seven on the shot clock. Ciak accepts the high screen. A 3-pointer

:16:19.:16:25.

by Miyem that goes off. Fowles gets the rebound, and is fouled by Kamba

:16:26.:16:32.

underneath. You could be isn't out there, but France still looking

:16:33.:16:35.

good, even though the United States are starting to get these offensive

:16:36.:16:40.

rebound is to get a second chance. If I were a coach Barnier what I

:16:41.:16:43.

would have said to Yacoubou before the game is, I'm starting you and

:16:44.:16:47.

want you to play as hard as you can as long as you can, we'll rescue but

:16:48.:16:52.

give it everything you've got, don't save yourself, it's exactly what she

:16:53.:16:53.

did. -- coach Gani air. I think they've been surprised, I

:16:54.:17:02.

don't think they were expecting this from France. It could still go to

:17:03.:17:09.

another level with the United States. Can France maintain this

:17:10.:17:15.

level they've started with? They have to keep hitting the jump shots,

:17:16.:17:22.

that's always been the problem. It's 19-15, France will have time to set

:17:23.:17:25.

up for the last shot with eight on the shot clock. Bouderra goes in.

:17:26.:17:34.

Nearly loses the ball. Get it inside to Ciak, who is fouled by Delle

:17:35.:17:36.

Donne. It won't be a shooting foul. This becomes strategically a very

:17:37.:17:50.

good foul because they've got half a second, which is time for almost

:17:51.:17:56.

nothing. And that was nothing. It is almost nothing. The clock didn't

:17:57.:18:02.

actually run down. Nobody touched the ball. It should be 0.6. They

:18:03.:18:08.

might have to sort that out. The referee going to fix that. Here we

:18:09.:18:17.

go, 0.6 again. Well spotted. The US with six tenths of a second to try

:18:18.:18:27.

and catch and shoot. It was McCoughtry who caught. She had more

:18:28.:18:31.

time. That ends the first quarter with the score US 19-15 France.

:18:32.:18:38.

Thanks for that for the moment, we'll be back for the second

:18:39.:18:43.

quarter. Expectations before were that USA might run away with it, but

:18:44.:18:48.

France playing well and keeping things tighter than we might have

:18:49.:18:52.

expected. We're going to pop back shortly. We will discuss... Look

:18:53.:18:58.

back on the entire regatta of the sailing with Shirley Robinson at

half-time in the basketball match. Right now, the day 13 headlines from

:19:02.:19:05.

Rio de Janeiro. Earlier today there was gold and

:19:06.:19:15.

silver for the Brownlee Brothers in triathlon on Kell Brook and their

:19:24.:19:31.

gold for Hannah Mills and Saskia Clark as they confirmed their top

:19:32.:19:39.

gold in the women's. Silver four years ago, gold this time. Surely

Jade Jones in a similar position, she's in the final of the category

she won four years in London. Her final at 2am UK time, it'll be an

BBC One. -- it will be on. We've had some Copacabana bin man news. We

:21:16.:21:20.

might do it before we speak to Shirley. We can't give you it all

:21:21.:21:24.

the time because we have basketball to get back for.

:21:25.:21:34.

Delle Donne misses, but the rebound follows... Bouderra gathers it in

:21:35.:21:44.

and comes back for France. The French realise how important

:21:45.:21:46.

rebounding is, desperately trying to get to everyone. Pretty much like

:21:47.:21:52.

the US they have a lot of athletic wing players. Michel trying to make

:21:53.:22:02.

space for herself, drives, gets through. She knew what you wanted to

:22:03.:22:06.

do, setting up that very shot. So quick in the movement. McCoughtry

:22:07.:22:17.

gets the inside step, it's 21-17. France have to go really hard for

:22:18.:22:21.

each basket. The US go down the other end and get it almost

:22:22.:22:25.

effortlessly. The big centre goes inside and get the ball, she's got

:22:26.:22:30.

one-on-one, misses the hook. A step slope towards the rebound. She went

:22:31.:22:35.

in the right direction, but a step slow to pick it up. Whalen,

:22:36.:22:45.

McCoughtry, Delle Donne. Inside, should be fouled, but the shop

:22:46.:22:52.

doesn't fall. That was a series of four people, each of whom thought

:22:53.:22:56.

about the shot, but decided to pass it on for the better one. That's

:22:57.:23:01.

right if you have that kind of mentality you will find open play

:23:02.:23:06.

with an easy shot, that's how easy it is for McCoughtry, that's the

:23:07.:23:09.

trouble playing the United States, they can go down the other end and

:23:10.:23:13.

effortlessly score. See how simple it was, there wasn't a fake

:23:14.:23:18.

involved, she looked to the left, got Kamba looking to the right, then

:23:19.:23:21.

went around Kamba when she was looking the other way.

:23:22.:23:30.

80% from the foul line, Delle Donne. Pretty strong from the foul line,

:23:31.:23:39.

the United States. Everybody in the lane. The ball hasn't even been shot

:23:40.:23:43.

and they are in the lane. At least the referee let it go, there is no

:23:44.:23:51.

rebound there. Two minutes gone in the second quarter. US leading by

:23:52.:23:56.

six. Into the game is the young Marine Johannes, did so well in the

:23:57.:24:04.

quarterfinal, only 21. Good pass, good look. Ciak cut through. And a

:24:05.:24:13.

bounce pass, right where Bouderra could handle it. 23-19.

:24:14.:24:22.

Delle Donne going hard to the basket. Griner. But in the soft

:24:23.:24:32.

shot. That's what France don't want United States to get a lot of

:24:33.:24:36.

offensive rebound and second looks at the basket. To be honest, Taurasi

:24:37.:24:45.

had a hand on Ciak, Ciak was going down the lane, not a good idea by

:24:46.:24:48.

Bouderra. Taurasi got away with that one.

:24:49.:24:56.

Coach Garnier was just saying, Taurasi had a hand in there. The

:24:57.:25:03.

shop doesn't go, McCoughtry with the rebound. Before the game what we

:25:04.:25:12.

thought is now starting to eventuate, the United States

:25:13.:25:15.

starting to dominate the boards, dominating the scoreboard right now.

:25:16.:25:29.

Kamba from the outside. Taurasi brings it up. No second shot. A wild

:25:30.:25:39.

shot. The ball comes back to her from Griner. She stepped on the end

:25:40.:25:49.

line. It goes over to France. They are going to leave Ciak out there?

:25:50.:25:52.

You Google congratulating players coming off. Jahan is coming off.

:25:53.:25:58.

France took a time-out, they are down by eight, probably a good time

:25:59.:26:05.

up to take because coach Garnier will want to emphasise the

:26:06.:26:10.

importance of the boards. You can see Ciak standing on the

:26:11.:26:24.

outside which may mean she'll get a breather. We've got to get some

:26:25.:26:31.

really good involvement down there, that leads to ball screens. We move

:26:32.:26:39.

the ball side to side... That's pretty self-explanatory from Gino,

:26:40.:26:43.

he once less one-on-one, he wants screens, people coming out, setting

:26:44.:26:47.

a screen for whoever has the ball, like right there, which opened

:26:48.:26:52.

things up, because Kamba has to look what's happening with the screen one

:26:53.:26:56.

side, giving McCoughtry the path on the other side. They dominate the

:26:57.:27:03.

individual battles. If they can start getting that going, it could

:27:04.:27:07.

be really troublesome for France. France are still in this, eight

:27:08.:27:11.

points, it's not too bad. They have only been outshot 8-4 in the second

:27:12.:27:17.

quarter. Bouderra brings it up for France. Jahan is still on the court

:27:18.:27:25.

and you Google back in. Johannes's pass was loose. World couldn't get

:27:26.:27:33.

to it. Inside you Google. She misses! She has to shoot it over

:27:34.:27:41.

Griner, but she was alone, hit the layup too hard. 27-19, you can't

:27:42.:27:47.

afford to do that against the US. Kamba gets the rebound off that

:27:48.:27:50.

three, that was one of those coughing Naylors. If I hit that

:27:51.:27:56.

it'll take the wind out of French sales, but she missed it. Janus,

:27:57.:28:01.

three for Jahan as! I think it was two. It was two, sorry, I get

:28:02.:28:08.

excited. Still an amazing shot, brilliant stuff from Jahan is. She

:28:09.:28:11.

did it in a couple of the other games, came off the bench and she is

:28:12.:28:17.

a shooter. McCoughtry in there again, McCoughtry gets the basket

:28:18.:28:21.

and the foul. That is the difficulty for France, they get a good shot

:28:22.:28:25.

United States go down the other end. Griner, carrying the ball to the

:28:26.:28:31.

offensive rebound. And the foul. She took a hard fall on her back. You

:28:32.:28:35.

see the athleticism of her, side-by-side with I think it was

:28:36.:28:41.

Kamba under the boards. She's moving before Kamba has reacted to the ball

:28:42.:28:46.

coming off the rim. A great shot by Jahan is. It deserved to be three. I

:28:47.:28:51.

like her a lot, she's going to have a great future. Only 21 years old.

:28:52.:28:59.

McCoughtry at the line for the United States. Complete the 3-point

:29:00.:29:06.

play. 30-21 approaching the halfway mark of the second quarter. You

:29:07.:29:13.

could book back in at point guard. Bouderra did a great job of passing

:29:14.:29:17.

to her. Once Jahan is to come to the other side. Janus gets a great

:29:18.:29:23.

screen from you Google. Gets fouled. -- Janus. From you cuckoo.

:29:24.:29:29.

We even talked about this when the Japanese played the US. Teams often

:29:30.:29:36.

lose the aggression against the American team, they become

:29:37.:29:39.

ineffective, intimidated. You have to take it to them. You have to try

:29:40.:29:44.

and force mistakes from them. You have to be consistent about them,

:29:45.:29:47.

can't let up. It's great to see France keeping it up. Jahan is that

:29:48.:29:52.

the line. Haven't had many turnovers. -- Johannes at the line.

:29:53.:29:57.

Haven't had many steels. She misses the second foul shot.

:29:58.:30:11.

30-22. Augustus is back in, she's got the ball, she's driving the

:30:12.:30:16.

lane, throws up, I wouldn't call it a floater, an easy one had a jot,

:30:17.:30:19.

32-22, the US by ten. Great pass from Johannes. Two

:30:20.:30:37.

offenders down now. When she turned around, she was wide open. 32-24.

:30:38.:30:43.

Augustus throws it almost away, and Maya Moore makes the save. Ayayi

:30:44.:30:50.

anticipates a pass and gives it to Johannes. Good passing. Johannes

:30:51.:31:00.

goes back for the three and hits. I told you! Johannes has six.

:31:01.:31:08.

Brilliant stuff from France. This is what they have got to keep on doing,

:31:09.:31:12.

just keep at it. Just keep doing this and you are going to be in it

:31:13.:31:16.

towards the end. Great stuff from the French. Just under four minutes

:31:17.:31:27.

to play in the quarter. They can do well mentally, the French. They are

:31:28.:31:33.

not being deterred by the US, they are just keeping doing what they are

:31:34.:31:40.

doing. McCoughtry, with the rebound. All of the Americans have gone up

:31:41.:31:44.

court. Brings Maya Moore back to take it. Taurasi. Taurasi drives.

:31:45.:31:54.

She got double little spring, that was all she needed. Just over three

:31:55.:32:02.

minutes to play. Epoupa comes back. France, down by nine. Johanne is,

:32:03.:32:06.

she can't do it all by herself, she has realise that. McCoughtry, so

:32:07.:32:16.

quick. She pops it to Maya Moore. Augustus, through the legs,

:32:17.:32:20.

backwards, not a great shot, didn't get a great look at the basket. The

:32:21.:32:27.

referee didn't give it, they gave the foul Bird, which was a shame,

:32:28.:32:30.

because Johannes was in position for the rebound. Epoupa drew the foul.

:32:31.:32:40.

If it is going to be to the offensive team's advantage, you have

:32:41.:32:44.

got to let it play. It is pretty hard to stop Taurasi in those

:32:45.:32:54.

conditions. There is Angel McCoughtry. And Olivia Epoupa. I

:32:55.:33:01.

think that is the first time we have seen her run at the United States,

:33:02.:33:07.

and when she is in full flight, she is brilliant to watch. 1.64 metres.

:33:08.:33:17.

The smallest woman on the floor. Whalen brings it up for the US. They

:33:18.:33:26.

are up by seven. There is the screen being set. Augustus is up top.

:33:27.:33:35.

Another screen. And there is a good dish. One extra pass and it gives

:33:36.:33:47.

the easy shot to Sylvia fouls. -- fouls.

:33:48.:33:55.

In the corner. The good shot, and the rebound, another shot by Kamba.

:33:56.:34:07.

There is the French men's coaching team in the middle. 38-31. Look at

:34:08.:34:15.

them nodding. They are seeing some good stuff from this woman's team. A

:34:16.:34:22.

bit of a tangle there. That would go against the defence, I believe. Just

:34:23.:34:28.

accidental, both players running for position. If it were me, I would

:34:29.:34:39.

give it against Augustus. The shooting has been impressive from

:34:40.:34:42.

France. They have missed a few attempts. But shooting 41% from the

:34:43.:34:46.

field, so not bad. They gave the foul against Ayayi. I

:34:47.:34:59.

am surprised. She has to go to the bench because that is her third.

:35:00.:35:13.

Epoupa for three. And it drops to Taurasi. Epoupa all over Taurasi.

:35:14.:35:22.

Tina Charles had set the little big for her there. -- a little pick.

:35:23.:35:37.

40-31, Tina Charles. Sometimes you think, how do you stop that from the

:35:38.:35:44.

US? There is just no way. Kamba. Good idea. Look at Epoupa, she falls

:35:45.:35:53.

down and keeps her shoe. She lost her shoe, and still going. And

:35:54.:36:01.

Johannes with the rainbow three. It is 40-34. Epoupa gets her shoe back.

:36:02.:36:06.

Still looking for it, I think. Extraordinary stuff. Watch this, the

:36:07.:36:14.

issue goes, she slides on the sock and keeps the dribble, no problem,

:36:15.:36:19.

then gives it to Johannes, and Johannes things, I might as well

:36:20.:36:24.

shoot. Charles kicked the issue away. But that was brilliant stuff

:36:25.:36:31.

from Epoupa. She doesn't need the shoe to play, it just helps her not

:36:32.:36:36.

to slip over. That was a Copacabana Beach in downtown three from

:36:37.:36:42.

Johannes. It is 40-34. 40 seconds to play in this post are. Taurasi with

:36:43.:36:54.

the 3-point shooting has not got into gear yet, but there's still

:36:55.:37:02.

plenty of time in this one. Johannes has scored nine points in this

:37:03.:37:08.

quarter, coming off the bench. Look at the confidence, taking on Whalen.

:37:09.:37:14.

And Amant underneath puts it in, it is a 4-point game and that brings

:37:15.:37:20.

the first half to a close, and France are within four, and look at

:37:21.:37:28.

the bench! We could be on for a shock. At half-time in that

:37:29.:37:35.

semifinal, the French within four points of the seemingly unbeatable

:37:36.:37:41.

team USA. We will be back for that the second half to pick up that

:37:42.:37:45.

basketball for you. Delighted to say that in the BBC Four kiosk of

:37:46.:37:51.

dreams, we have joined by Shirley Robertson. We normally talk to you

:37:52.:37:58.

on a boat in the marina to Gloria. It must be nice to be on solid

:37:59.:38:05.

ground. It is very nice to be here. You have got quite the spot. The

:38:06.:38:10.

regatta is now finished, the sailing finished. Overall, we had Giles

:38:11.:38:16.

Scott winning gold, Hannah Mills and Saskia Clark, Nick Dempsey with his

:38:17.:38:22.

silver in the windsurfing. How do you think the sailing organisation

:38:23.:38:25.

will look back on these games? Has it been a success? Team GB RA top

:38:26.:38:33.

sailing nation. In previous Olympics we have won more medals, but we had

:38:34.:38:37.

seven courses here, massive mountains in the middle of it, loads

:38:38.:38:43.

of current. So many. So many things you could not control. On reflection

:38:44.:38:47.

they will be happy to walk away, top nation. Coming here, I have heard

:38:48.:38:55.

you many times on TV and radio, talk about the dangers of the course,

:38:56.:38:58.

pollution was a big concern beforehand. And we heard Bryony Shaw

:38:59.:39:06.

talk about that in the regatta. Has that been as much of a fear as

:39:07.:39:10.

people thought it would be? We have been very lucky at this Olympics. It

:39:11.:39:15.

didn't properly reign. The risk was, if it rained and it wasn't outgoing

:39:16.:39:23.

tide, then everything in the Bay goes through that little opening. It

:39:24.:39:27.

is awash with everything from fridges to dead dogs to wardrobes.

:39:28.:39:33.

Everything comes out into the day. A few bits of plastic. But not as many

:39:34.:39:43.

as feared. You would not go swimming in Guanabara Bay, but on the whole,

:39:44.:39:49.

they had a lucky escape. The Brazilians were diving in after

:39:50.:39:52.

their gold medal. We will get to that later on. I spoke to the locals

:39:53.:39:58.

and they said 70% of the raw sewage from Rio goes into where the sailing

:39:59.:40:03.

takes place. You can understand why there were those concerns about what

:40:04.:40:07.

could happen but thankfully the wind and weather have protected us from

:40:08.:40:12.

the worst of that. And in our small sailing team, it was the editor who

:40:13.:40:18.

got sick, and she never leaves the Portakabin. Must have been a dodgy

:40:19.:40:27.

burger. They really look after their guts, the team. They were careful,

:40:28.:40:31.

they disinfected themselves and their boats. They did not have a

:40:32.:40:34.

drinks bottle on board. They just didn't take any risks. And

:40:35.:40:39.

thankfully that certainly worked for Team GB. When you're preparing for a

:40:40.:40:45.

course like that, how much of the Team GB sailors would have been here

:40:46.:40:49.

to have a look at it before sailing it? Most of them will hear about 150

:40:50.:40:58.

days. Rio is great but it is a hard place to live. That is a lot of

:40:59.:41:03.

time. But sailing is not a linear course. You are constantly making

:41:04.:41:08.

decisions, should I go this way or that, when should I go this way

:41:09.:41:13.

back? You make decisions based on previous knowledge of what you think

:41:14.:41:17.

has happened before or just looking at your environment. It didn't

:41:18.:41:22.

really work like that here. Team GB spent lots of resources trying to

:41:23.:41:27.

get some sort of formula. Even the Brazilians didn't always know. You

:41:28.:41:34.

had to have a cool head and a bit of flair and a bit of understanding

:41:35.:41:36.

about the complexity of what actually went on. We saw lots of

:41:37.:41:43.

drama. In two races today we saw sailors from Team GB capsize. And

:41:44.:41:48.

sometimes it is because you have got to push it and go for it, and you

:41:49.:41:52.

push things to the limit. When you take those risks up, sometimes it

:41:53.:41:57.

goes wrong. In the sailing, you have a series of preliminary heats. You

:41:58.:42:03.

count those scores. Then it goes into this do or die medal race on a

:42:04.:42:10.

tiny little course. And it doesn't last very long. You see them

:42:11.:42:15.

capsizing. Part of that was nerves. They were trying too hard. They knew

:42:16.:42:19.

that they had one chance they get a medal and this was it. And

:42:20.:42:26.

especially those bows, the skiffs, you have got to let the whole thing

:42:27.:42:30.

flow. I am the supported for both of them today. They should not be

:42:31.:42:36.

capsizing at this level. Let's talk about the successes, Nick Dempsey

:42:37.:42:40.

with the windsurfing. He came here with high hopes. But it was a silver

:42:41.:42:45.

medal. How will he reflect on that in the winter? He will be pleased.

:42:46.:42:51.

He wanted to win gold. He took a silver in London, but he sailed well

:42:52.:42:56.

and he pushed the eventual winner so hard. The pair of them were

:42:57.:43:00.

untouchable, head and shoulders above the rest of the field. His

:43:01.:43:05.

fifth Olympic Games, his third medal. He knows what he is doing. He

:43:06.:43:11.

has seen it all before. He kept a cool head. He sailed well, but

:43:12.:43:17.

Indian, Dorian was a convincing winner. He will be pleased. -- but

:43:18.:43:28.

in the end. Sometimes you have got to hold your hand up and say that

:43:29.:43:31.

you would have to do something incredible to better the winner in

:43:32.:43:39.

that. He has been 20 years of professional WinServer, he has loads

:43:40.:43:43.

of World Championships and medals. He will be relieved that he ended on

:43:44.:43:50.

a high. This has been a transformative games. We are used to

:43:51.:43:55.

the previous generation of sailors. Is there a new generation coming

:43:56.:43:59.

through? For something like windsurfing when Nick has been the

:44:00.:44:03.

dominant man for such a long time, will we see a fresh generation

:44:04.:44:08.

coming through? They are pushing hard. We see it in all the Olympic

:44:09.:44:13.

sports now. We began to believe in Britain that we are going to win,

:44:14.:44:18.

that we know how to win, that we expect to win. It is not an

:44:19.:44:23.

arrogance, but it is infectious, and nobody wants to come to the Olympic

:44:24.:44:28.

Games as part of Team GB and not be in a position to get the opportunity

:44:29.:44:33.

to get a medal. We have definitely got a new generation coming. They

:44:34.:44:38.

are much more mature, professional Bull and sensible than I was at that

:44:39.:44:47.

have changed. You were a double Olympic gold medallist. From your

:44:48.:44:52.

perspective, there is real excitement in Rio. Lots of them love

:44:53.:44:57.

the fact that the games are here. Some have been shouting and angry,

:44:58.:45:03.

but in a game like this that is not as organised as it was four years

:45:04.:45:08.

ago, and feels a little bit more loose on occasion, it feels a bit

:45:09.:45:10.

relaxed, maybe to relax. Ian Walker is commentating with us,

:45:11.:45:18.

I'm not sure we would have done that well here. I like to dot the eyes

:45:19.:45:22.

and crossed the Tees, I like to work harder than anyone else, know

:45:23.:45:27.

exactly what was going on, here you had to roll with it, like the

:45:28.:45:34.

Brazilians. They took the Knox, took the opportunities, they came out on

:45:35.:45:39.

top. Giles Scott came here in the same boat that Ben Ainslie won all

:45:40.:45:46.

those gold medals and yes, he was overwhelming favourite, but have the

:45:47.:45:49.

weight of expectation. Everybody thought, nailed on gold medal, in

:45:50.:45:53.

the end he did it. It must be weird, he's lost one event in four years

:45:54.:45:58.

because his rudder fell off, he has so dominated the class, Britain has

:45:59.:46:03.

dominated since 2000. I always wondered how he would react when he

:46:04.:46:07.

finally won, it was an amazing moment, we were just off Copacabana,

:46:08.:46:13.

he let out this massive man raw, Captain sensible let it all out.

:46:14.:46:19.

That is the release of knowing what could have gone wrong, it all comes

:46:20.:46:31.

out. -- this roar. He probably would have won in London, but got pipped

:46:32.:46:36.

by Sir Ben Kingsley. Can you imagine watching somebody win the gold medal

:46:37.:46:40.

you knew you could have won. He's waited a long time, but he's an

:46:41.:46:43.

amazing athlete he can go on to win whole lot more. What about Hannah

:46:44.:46:49.

Mills and Saskia Clark, they had this strange delay. It happens in a

:46:50.:46:52.

sailing, they knew they were guaranteed gold but had to wait for

:46:53.:46:56.

the medal race, it was postponed for a day, then they could have that joy

:46:57.:46:59.

and release, even though they knew they had won. It doesn't happen in

:47:00.:47:04.

sailing often but both gold medals are British gold medals. They were

:47:05.:47:10.

so dominant they manage to get 20 points clear, meaning it didn't

:47:11.:47:13.

matter how they finished. They had to race, to have a clean race. They

:47:14.:47:19.

wouldn't allow themselves to properly celebrate until this

:47:20.:47:24.

moment. They are such a lovely pair, look at that. So sweet. They won

:47:25.:47:31.

silver in London and were picked in the medal race. I remember Hannah

:47:32.:47:36.

being so cross about it. She's an incredible talent and has been since

:47:37.:47:40.

she was this size. She's not much taller now. It was a great moment,

:47:41.:47:45.

such great partnership. I was going to ask about the partnership, in

:47:46.:47:48.

different classes, some people are on their own in the boat, they are

:47:49.:47:51.

fine with that. Giles Scott gets on with it. Do you have to be friends,

:47:52.:47:56.

can respect work in that regard, can you get on with it with someone you

:47:57.:48:01.

don't necessarily spend time with? Like any working relationship I

:48:02.:48:04.

suppose, but a whole lot more pressured and you spend a lot of

:48:05.:48:07.

time together and have to trust each other. Your decision-making happens

:48:08.:48:14.

all the time. You want to sit on a boat where you don't have to say

:48:15.:48:17.

very much, you know what the other is going to do. They had that from

:48:18.:48:21.

the moment they step in the boat together. I said to Hannah, before

:48:22.:48:26.

she came to the games, I asked, when you go home what will you be happy

:48:27.:48:31.

with? She burst into tears because she realised it would end and she

:48:32.:48:34.

wouldn't see her crew and Saskia every single day. They are such a

:48:35.:48:38.

tight unit, so tough that they won so convincingly. Saskia hasn't

:48:39.:48:44.

decided what to do. She told me she was retiring but now she has tasted

:48:45.:48:48.

gold and stood on the top step she may well be back. We have to talk

:48:49.:48:53.

about the Brazilians, that huge expectation in the 49 Fx class, four

:48:54.:48:59.

could have won gold in the medal race, which is rare in itself, throw

:49:00.:49:04.

in the host nation, so much drama, so close between them and the Kiwis

:49:05.:49:09.

in the end. It was amazing, the sailing venue packed full of

:49:10.:49:13.

Brazilians, the media, on the water. You can see her jumping in the

:49:14.:49:19.

water. She's from a long line of amazing Brazilian sailors. Brazil

:49:20.:49:22.

have won their most gold medals in this sport, is a real dynasty. Have

:49:23.:49:31.

you ever been carried out onto the beach in your boat? I have. The

:49:32.:49:36.

first time I won gold was in a very small boat so it was possible. I'm

:49:37.:49:41.

chuffed for them, she is the queen of Rio tonight. The crowd was huge

:49:42.:49:48.

down there today, in terms of the knowledgeable element of the crowd,

:49:49.:49:51.

you say Brazil have won the most gold medals in this event, they must

:49:52.:49:54.

have known commend the same way there was a knowledgeable crowd at

:49:55.:49:58.

Weymouth, was it the same today for the final event there? Sailing is

:49:59.:50:04.

big in Brazil, particularly Rio, her dad has won five Olympic medals.

:50:05.:50:10.

Robert was trying to get his sixth to become the most successful

:50:11.:50:14.

Olympic sailor ever. Her uncle and great uncle have won medals,

:50:15.:50:19.

everybody knows who they are. They came out in force today. The noise,

:50:20.:50:26.

we were trying to record, to record audio for the piece tonight. It was

:50:27.:50:33.

a real party. And it's great for the sport here. It's great for the home

:50:34.:50:39.

nation. Still celebrating. I imagine it would go well into the night. We

:50:40.:50:46.

had a hairdresser on earlier. Can you see Shirley's face? We like to

:50:47.:50:50.

celebrate everything in Brazil. He wanted to come down because he had

:50:51.:50:54.

been watching BBC Four in London, they know how to celebrate in Rio,

:50:55.:50:58.

they love it. And success, Brazilians love success more than

:50:59.:51:02.

anything else, that would have gone down so well today. You might not

:51:03.:51:12.

have seen our Copacabinmen. Here they are. Raphael... We get to know

:51:13.:51:19.

them so well. A new cowboy hat for tonight and long socks. We can see

:51:20.:51:23.

them in action. They are big fans of the show. I think it's Donatello

:51:24.:51:31.

driving, Raphael, Pedro, Alejandro Sabella with the long football socks

:51:32.:51:39.

on. Great technique. I thought I had the best location of the games, but

:51:40.:51:43.

it's all happening here. Yesterday on twitter Copacabinmen was trending

:51:44.:51:47.

for quite some time, people love the bin men. What will happen next? I

:51:48.:51:53.

can give you chapter and verse what time they come past, we've been here

:51:54.:51:57.

two weeks, we know everything about them. It has been a real pleasure to

:51:58.:52:01.

hear you covering sailing. I hope you've enjoyed Rio. Loved it, loved

:52:02.:52:09.

it. Thank you, Shirley Robertson, we need to salute Shirley Epoupa time

:52:10.:52:13.

Olympic gold medallist. Can we give her a round of applause. It's like

:52:14.:52:18.

the Steve Wright show on Radio 2. Back to the basketball now. I think

:52:19.:52:25.

we probably are. When we left it, USA were four points ahead of

:52:26.:52:29.

France, we're going to rejoin them, this is into the second half, Mike

:52:30.:52:38.

Carson and Vita Sabral picked this up. Let's see if France can upset

:52:39.:52:41.

the favourites. It's a loose ball. Moya gathers it

:52:42.:52:58.

in and hits the two. She is so smooth. Unbelievable. It's

:52:59.:53:04.

usually... She's such a strong shooter. Interesting they have left

:53:05.:53:18.

Johannes out there. Tipped away. Augustus goes behind the back. She

:53:19.:53:25.

hits. In the first RFID and looked like the United States were playing

:53:26.:53:31.

great intensity. They put a strong word in at half-time because they

:53:32.:53:36.

have opted for the third quarter. Augustus draws Johannes. Griner all

:53:37.:53:46.

alone under the boards. There is no frenetic energy to Moore, she seems

:53:47.:53:54.

to move so easily. Taurasi Mrs and misses it badly. The came to the US.

:53:55.:54:03.

They reset now with Augustus. An Gruda. Trying to get Charles with

:54:04.:54:07.

the mismatch. I don't think it beat the shot

:54:08.:54:16.

clock. I think they lost sight of the shot clock and it was so casual.

:54:17.:54:20.

That was the kind of stuff Gino was Mac properly looking for from

:54:21.:54:27.

Taurasi. They have better stop, this third quarter of the United States,

:54:28.:54:33.

given the way they ended the second. Gruda behind the 3-point line.

:54:34.:54:38.

Moving in under the basket. Johannes looks for Gruda, Gruda gets it in.

:54:39.:54:47.

Great look by Johannes. Brilliant stuff from France. Moore trying to

:54:48.:54:54.

post up Johannes, giving away a couple of inches, and a lot of

:54:55.:54:58.

weights to her. Taurasi, again for three. Hits. The first three of the

:54:59.:55:05.

game. Taurasi, had to come eventually, she is such a strong

:55:06.:55:08.

3-point shooter. If the United States can get that game going,

:55:09.:55:12.

their lead could increase. France keeping up. You get the feeling she

:55:13.:55:16.

was coming out trying to shoot threes because she knew one had to

:55:17.:55:23.

drop sooner or later. Yacoubou, seven on the shot clock. Into the

:55:24.:55:30.

corner, Johannes. Lost the ball out of bounds, stepped out of bounds, I

:55:31.:55:34.

thought Moore had caught a foul but she didn't. Driving with two seconds

:55:35.:55:40.

on the shot clock, not sure it was the best idea. I tell you what she

:55:41.:55:44.

was thinking, they know she likes to shoot three. Moore stepped forward

:55:45.:55:50.

to defend the three. I thought she might have drawn the foul. She was

:55:51.:55:54.

about to pull up and take the shot. It makes sense now. Griner on

:55:55.:56:06.

Yacoubou, comes across the middle. 11 points lead again now, this is

:56:07.:56:11.

the crucial time for France. US has come out strong in the second half,

:56:12.:56:14.

France have to keep working at the lead. Miyem lost the ball to Seimone

:56:15.:56:23.

Augustus. More fired up, you saw the chest bump. Griner getting the

:56:24.:56:32.

better of Yacoubou. For France now, they are in a similar position to

:56:33.:56:35.

the second quarter, where they were behind by a few points, kept

:56:36.:56:40.

plugging away. That is about the best Yacoubou could play that on

:56:41.:56:44.

defence. Moving her feet, which often she doesn't do, to try and get

:56:45.:56:49.

position. Griner is much quicker, she runs into Yacoubou, dishes it

:56:50.:56:55.

out. The tip by Augustus, can she keep it in? She did by bouncing it

:56:56.:57:03.

off the five of Johannes. US 49-38. Again, looks like a different

:57:04.:57:08.

mentality. They won a call and are all fired up for it. Tina Charles on

:57:09.:57:13.

the drive, blast it's hard, but it doesn't hit the ring. A good pass.

:57:14.:57:18.

Doesn't get the role of the glass. Nice look by Epoupa, who steals it

:57:19.:57:26.

from behind from Augustus. Epoupa wants to come up quickly, goes

:57:27.:57:27.

behind... Epoupa driving down now. We've got our sound back. Yacoubou

:57:28.:58:02.

coming down after Charles's basket. Epoupa sometimes people don't see

:58:03.:58:08.

you coming. She is a magnificent talent. Yacoubou went up strong,

:58:09.:58:15.

basket didn't go but got the foul on Griner. This has been the most

:58:16.:58:20.

interesting referee point of the whole Olympic Games, if you are

:58:21.:58:25.

standing still, you have what they call a cylinder, body cylinder, that

:58:26.:58:29.

is the space you can inhabit, as long as you stand still in your

:58:30.:58:34.

cylinder, you can't commit a foul. If your hands are straight above the

:58:35.:58:39.

head, that is part of your cylinder. In this Olympic Games if you stand

:58:40.:58:42.

still with your hands over your head in the offensive player runs into

:58:43.:58:47.

your arms, you will be called for the foul, it's one of those

:58:48.:58:50.

anomalies that is never going to be resolved. Players try so hard to

:58:51.:58:57.

stand there with their hands in the air because they read the rule, they

:58:58.:59:01.

know what it is, they still will get called for the foul. Yacoubou

:59:02.:59:07.

deserved a foul. In that situation. Though she worked hard to get

:59:08.:59:17.

underneath and get position. Taurasi turns it over. Looked like momentum

:59:18.:59:22.

was going the way of the United States. France just staying in

:59:23.:59:27.

there. As long as they can keep doing that, they will at least have

:59:28.:59:32.

a chance in the final part of the game.

:59:33.:59:55.

In and out, and the rebound two fouls. Moore. Everything a little

:59:56.:00:11.

static now. Fowles really fighting hard for position. There is the

:00:12.:00:20.

second three of the game from Taurasi. When things are tight in

:00:21.:00:24.

the middle, you can rely on Taurasi to hit threes, it's such a relief,

:00:25.:00:27.

relieves pressure, forcing France into a different kind of defence.

:00:28.:00:32.

You can't defend everywhere. Taurasi talking heavy trash to Johannes as

:00:33.:00:39.

she ran through the middle. Saying you can't do that and expect to get

:00:40.:00:46.

the ball. Johannes coming in. Gets the role. Extraordinary shot, didn't

:00:47.:00:50.

look like she was going anywhere. Carrying low on the hip then

:00:51.:00:54.

scooping towards the basket. In and out, but follows with the rebound.

:00:55.:00:59.

56-43. She had great position under the basket. France time-out as the

:01:00.:01:09.

US has gone up by 13. 56-43. Look at Fowles, got the position, of Gruda,

:01:10.:01:12.

get it in. France have been working hard the

:01:13.:01:35.

whole game. It is how long they can keep it up.

:01:36.:01:54.

exhorting them on as well. There is Taurasi. You would have to say that

:01:55.:02:18.

the US have upped it in 3-point shooting. Sue Bird, suppose you

:02:19.:02:28.

could call it day to day with a knee injury and there's only two more

:02:29.:02:34.

days left. Michel comes back in to replace Johannes. Amant is in again.

:02:35.:02:41.

She played well in the first half coming off the

:02:42.:02:51.

Thought about the shot, decided to drive. I think they lost sight of it

:02:52.:03:05.

again. It was so casual. Whelan, now, for the US. Delle Donne is in.

:03:06.:03:14.

Let's see if the 3-point floodgates have opened. Taurasi gets the basket

:03:15.:03:22.

and the file. You only get 3-point shots when you get the 3-point play.

:03:23.:03:29.

Amant is called for the foul. Like you said before, this is a critical

:03:30.:03:33.

moment for France. If they don't pick it up, if they can't stop the

:03:34.:03:38.

US from scoring at the other end, it can get away from them. They have

:03:39.:03:42.

only got seven points so far in this 3rd quarter. Epoupa goes to the

:03:43.:03:51.

bench for a break, and Bouderra comes on. She was the MVP of the

:03:52.:04:03.

French league last season. Ciak Amant and Ayayi, they have a centre

:04:04.:04:12.

and two forwards, Michel and Bouderra, takes the 3-point play

:04:13.:04:19.

with just over three minutes of play in the third. Good goal movement,

:04:20.:04:32.

Ciak on the outside trying to pull them away from under the basket.

:04:33.:04:40.

Michel, only two on the shot block. And the 24 second violation which is

:04:41.:04:48.

not good for France, but it is a sign that the US has turned on the

:04:49.:04:53.

defensive intensity a little bit. There is no way that the French can

:04:54.:04:58.

find a way through, and that is a real concern. Delle Donne has nipped

:04:59.:05:02.

away, and Viacom 's Bouderra. They have a two on one if they take it

:05:03.:05:07.

quickly. Instead, the three, which Mrs, and Charles rebounds for the

:05:08.:05:14.

US. Great play by Bouderra. Take the basket you can get. The 3-point

:05:15.:05:21.

there just wasn't on. Delle Donne. Augustus. Whelan drives. Releases

:05:22.:05:30.

the ball, France have it again. But Michel kick it forward.

:05:31.:05:41.

Whatever they want to call. Bouderra, Amant, to Ciak. Ciak gets

:05:42.:06:02.

the hand of Charles away. Bouderra was travelling before she started

:06:03.:06:09.

her dribbling. It is frustrating when you get the turnover to then

:06:10.:06:14.

lose it again. And that is the challenge for France, to just keep

:06:15.:06:18.

it up, to keep pushing as hard as they can. McCoughtry is in the game

:06:19.:06:33.

now. Whelan hits, 61-43, 18 now for the US with a minute and a half in

:06:34.:06:40.

the 3rd quarter. The score, 21-7, in this quarter. Ciak put her shoulders

:06:41.:06:50.

down and blocked, basically. On the offensive line, there, basically.

:06:51.:07:02.

Ayayi has one foot out of bounds. And the pass is throwing away to

:07:03.:07:09.

Whalen. She draws the foul and the shot is no good. She is just waiting

:07:10.:07:15.

for the foul, basically. At the other end they thought that was out

:07:16.:07:19.

of bounds and that was why they. . Ayayi with the presence of mind to

:07:20.:07:25.

get up towards the basket. They are really taking control now, the US.

:07:26.:07:30.

This is a problem for France. You have to keep up that intensity of

:07:31.:07:35.

the first and 2nd quarter and execute it to that level, but it is

:07:36.:07:40.

the US who are stepping in up in the 3rd quarter. For France, it was a

:07:41.:07:44.

question of keeping doing what they were doing and they came out just a

:07:45.:07:52.

little bit cold, and couldn't do it. It doesn't look like they have the

:07:53.:07:59.

solutions to find in open play. 19 point lead in the last minute of the

:08:00.:08:04.

3rd quarter. Ciak, underneath, didn't not get the spin off the

:08:05.:08:10.

glass. Whalen is coming for three, and that is blocked by Michel. Nice

:08:11.:08:17.

play by Michel. Watch Whalen now. She's going to go with the

:08:18.:08:21.

two-handed layout, but Michel just pokes it away.

:08:22.:08:32.

Maya Moore says, here, have this seat. I saved it for you! And the

:08:33.:09:03.

foul on Marielle Amant. The US, just keep doing what they are doing, and

:09:04.:09:08.

they can see this one through. You can tell by the body language of the

:09:09.:09:13.

players on the bench. All of sudden, they've looked relaxed.

:09:14.:09:23.

That is something the US have to get used to. Everyone is going to face

:09:24.:09:32.

them, like it is a final. Amant keeps it in play but only as far as

:09:33.:09:36.

Delle Donne, it is four on three for the US. Delle Donne goes right to

:09:37.:09:42.

the hook, puts it in an draws the foul on Ayayi. She will get a

:09:43.:09:48.

complete the 3-point play. That is what he likes to see, the kind of

:09:49.:09:54.

basketball he expects his team to play, athletic in attack. And you

:09:55.:09:58.

would have to say, unstoppable. I don't think there's a team in the

:09:59.:10:02.

Olympic Games that can that kind of play. The other point you were

:10:03.:10:10.

making about teams being up to play the United States, you have to say

:10:11.:10:16.

that these women's teams are getting better and better, the quality of

:10:17.:10:20.

women's basketball is coming on in leaps and bounds as more schools and

:10:21.:10:26.

clubs start to take it very seriously. And the gap is narrowing

:10:27.:10:33.

as quickly as it possibly could. Tactically, there's great

:10:34.:10:36.

improvement as coaching develops. Yes. That shot, knocked away.

:10:37.:10:55.

Big turnaround in this 3rd quarter, 25-7 now that the US have outscored

:10:56.:11:10.

France. I didn't think she had committed the foul, but she had.

:11:11.:11:18.

Ciak. This is the second time she has hit the board. McCoughtry with

:11:19.:11:23.

the shot and it just misses. That ends the 3rd quarter and the US has

:11:24.:11:29.

outscored France 25 eight in this quarter, after the 2nd quarter

:11:30.:11:35.

completely level, and they now lead by 21 points. 65-44. Team USA

:11:36.:11:43.

running away with it in that 3rd quarter. We should be there for any

:11:44.:11:51.

conclusion of that one, the final quarter. Thank you for all of your

:11:52.:11:55.

messages. They are flooding in throughout the programme. I know how

:11:56.:12:01.

much you enjoy them. I thought we had a problem, a technical issue,

:12:02.:12:05.

but everything is fine. We'll be back for the final period of the

:12:06.:12:10.

basketball. We will also have Usain Bolt coming up on BBC One at 2:30am.

:12:11.:12:19.

Jade Jones goes in the taekwondo at two o'clock. Those are things to

:12:20.:12:23.

keep in your diary if you are going to stay up all night. I know that

:12:24.:12:28.

some people are setting an alarm to watch Usain Bolt later on. Some

:12:29.:12:33.

things to tidy up before returning to the basketball. One is Andy

:12:34.:12:44.

Murray... Ladies and gentlemen, the anthem of Great Britain.

:12:45.:12:58.

That was the technical issue. We had to change the battery on the camera

:12:59.:13:05.

so you could not hear me for a bit. We were talking about those little

:13:06.:13:11.

things that they hand out to the athletes, and Andy Murray broke his

:13:12.:13:14.

during the medal ceremony. I have been told that they are a 3-D image

:13:15.:13:20.

of the logo of the games. They are meant to symbolise contagious energy

:13:21.:13:26.

and the exuberant nature of Brazilians. That is what it is all

:13:27.:13:31.

about. Lots of people thought that Andy Murray was looking at his phone

:13:32.:13:39.

during the medal ceremony. Ov on BBC One tonight, we told you about Jade

:13:40.:13:44.

Jones. Usain Bolt getting ready for the final of the 200 metres. Just

:13:45.:13:50.

grooving out and enjoying himself. And we shall get back to the

:13:51.:13:55.

basketball. Team USA taking on France, they are way ahead, 65-44.

:13:56.:14:10.

Here are Mike and Vito to talk us through to the end.

:14:11.:14:27.

That is great. Look at her. She had perfect position. There was no

:14:28.:14:38.

reason to run into her, basically. Her cylinder was completely

:14:39.:14:47.

established. Inside, Maya Moore with the offensive rebound, and that is a

:14:48.:14:48.

killer, right there. It was tipped away briefly by

:14:49.:15:00.

Breanna Stewart making her first appearance. Swish! She had a good

:15:01.:15:09.

look at the basket, but nice arc and spin on it. It's due 9-46. She's had

:15:10.:15:17.

a great performance. When she's been an she's been very good. Moore to

:15:18.:15:24.

Breanna Stewart, Stuart keeps it in play. Look at that, France, up with

:15:25.:15:30.

it. Look who is down in court, Johannes for the basket. It's how

:15:31.:15:35.

they have to keep playing, keep plugging away, do your best, keep

:15:36.:15:39.

pushing, up the intensity, see how you go in the final few minutes.

:15:40.:15:44.

That is going to be a backcourt violation on the US. Johannes is 21,

:15:45.:15:51.

I wonder if she has US college eligibility after playing pro in

:15:52.:15:57.

France has ruined that for it. I bet there are coaches out there looking,

:15:58.:16:00.

thinking that is a girl with some potential right there. She will

:16:01.:16:06.

develop quickly playing pro in France as well. There is the foul,

:16:07.:16:13.

Stuart gets the foul, as Bouderra drives. Bouderra has been great in

:16:14.:16:19.

the sense of being aggressive. I'm only one metre 63, I'm still going

:16:20.:16:22.

to take the ball to the hoop and make things happen. That is what a

:16:23.:16:26.

good point guard should be thinking. Nothing wrong with being in that

:16:27.:16:31.

short in basketball! Bouderra did well, she came in very late for

:16:32.:16:35.

Celine Dumerc who was injured before the tournament. She has contributed

:16:36.:16:41.

really well. Tell you who else is here scouting the tournament, the

:16:42.:16:46.

Scouts from the women's teams in the big women's basketball countries,

:16:47.:16:51.

Spain, Russia, Turkey, where the big clubs are really dominant. Players

:16:52.:16:55.

on the French team playing in the French league can take that step.

:16:56.:17:02.

Ekaterinburg could be the next stop for Johannes. Fowles goes to the

:17:03.:17:11.

bench, Griner comes back in. Breanna Stewart goes to the corner now. And

:17:12.:17:19.

the ball goes loose through. Bouderra moves through the hands of

:17:20.:17:25.

Griner. Gruda on the baseline, crosscourt. And gets the role.

:17:26.:17:36.

Yacoubou, they go strong to her. That's the interesting thing, she

:17:37.:17:43.

hasn't played much part in this game, Skrela. She's one of the

:17:44.:17:48.

players who has played the most minutes for the French team, 21

:17:49.:17:53.

minutes on average per game. Looks like she's really contributing in

:17:54.:17:57.

the fourth quarter. Curious but I guess there is a reason for it.

:17:58.:18:02.

France's still plugging away, outscoring the United States 8-4,

:18:03.:18:06.

that is how you'd have to take the fourth quarter, try to win it, see

:18:07.:18:09.

how close you can get towards the last few minutes. , baskets, get it

:18:10.:18:16.

down to ten, you've got five minutes to play, it's a very manageable

:18:17.:18:17.

game. Johannes with 13, Yacoubou with 12,

:18:18.:18:28.

you wish you could get more minutes on the court, really. Balanced

:18:29.:18:35.

scoring as you would expect from the US.

:18:36.:18:44.

Look at those heels! I'm surprised she can wear those on the court.

:18:45.:18:51.

Every basketball court I've ever been on says no shoes, just

:18:52.:18:58.

sneakers. She knows her way around the basketball court, tactically

:18:59.:19:01.

doing a very good job with the French team. Really getting the most

:19:02.:19:07.

out of them. I'm thinking about Skrela, Skrela is a shorter wing

:19:08.:19:12.

player, a guard but not quick guard, a shorter wing player, one of the

:19:13.:19:16.

longer ones inhere in this game. It's probably why she hasn't played

:19:17.:19:23.

much. As a matchup thing for me have to give the coach credit for seeing

:19:24.:19:25.

those match ups. Yacoubou Johannes takes it up top.

:19:26.:19:42.

Taurasi is on her. No steals for France, fascinating statistic.

:19:43.:19:52.

Yacoubou, just slow to react. By the time the pass was in the air, hadn't

:19:53.:19:57.

started moving towards it. Every pass sends a message, unfortunately

:19:58.:20:02.

for Yacoubou the message came too late for her, she had to make the

:20:03.:20:07.

move. They keep plugging away, credit to the French, they've

:20:08.:20:10.

performed well here against what is a really strong United States

:20:11.:20:15.

outfit. Stuart, the College Player of the Year in the last three years

:20:16.:20:21.

for Gino, she is a between Ender 's game, not quick enough on the wing,

:20:22.:20:27.

not strong enough inside. Couple of steals in quick succession. Another

:20:28.:20:35.

rebound for Gruda. Talked about how great the intensity was for the

:20:36.:20:39.

United States in the third quarter. It's dropped again. Yacoubou hits,

:20:40.:20:50.

it's what they needed, 67-54. Give Skrela some credit for that rebound

:20:51.:20:59.

at the other end. Taurasi. Griner. Griner bank said. She's six foot

:21:00.:21:04.

eight, but she's got a good touch. -- Griner banks it. Six minutes to

:21:05.:21:14.

play. 17 point lead. In the air, ball, Delle Donne brings it in.

:21:15.:21:24.

Gives it to Catchings. After the way she

:21:25.:21:28.

Taurasi. Griner was free underneath. Griner misses the shot but gets

:21:29.:21:41.

fouled on the rebound by Yacoubou. Interesting no foul was called

:21:42.:21:44.

before an Taurasi, there was a lot of contact there. This is the

:21:45.:21:48.

trouble for the French, they have to get these defensive rebounds and not

:21:49.:21:51.

allow the United States another chance. It falls on Johannes before

:21:52.:21:57.

Yacoubou came around, Johannes had her hand in there on the rebound.

:21:58.:22:02.

Johannes drew her first foul and the team's second.

:22:03.:22:07.

Great atmosphere. Taurasi for three. A quick release three, making it a

:22:08.:22:19.

20 point game. A steal and no basket, no basket but the fall.

:22:20.:22:24.

Catchings who has only just come in the game this quarter, that really

:22:25.:22:30.

is now the kiss of death. Yeah, after conceding three points, then

:22:31.:22:35.

to have the inbound given straightaway, it's really

:22:36.:22:37.

problematic for the French. Really difficult for them. Johannes has

:22:38.:22:42.

gone off a bit in this fourth quarter but put in a great

:22:43.:22:47.

performance. The basket by Catchings was no good, you saw them saying no

:22:48.:22:52.

basket, but the basket by Augustus, backing it in. Now 76-54, 22 point

:22:53.:22:57.

lead halfway through the fourth quarter. Michel is in for France.

:22:58.:23:05.

Passes to Yacoubou. She went from a previous attempt, that play they

:23:06.:23:08.

were trying to execute, she understood, yes, I have to make the

:23:09.:23:15.

move. Delle Donne. Taurasi. She's got the three. She misses. Yacoubou

:23:16.:23:22.

with the rebound, quickly up to Yacoubou. Followed by Taurasi. She

:23:23.:23:32.

was giving that one intentionally. That's the difficulty with the

:23:33.:23:36.

intentional foul rule. Yacoubou under the basket, staying strong.

:23:37.:23:41.

That's why they made it unsportsmanlike. You will see it

:23:42.:23:45.

called if there is too much contact, if it's too physical. Miyem for

:23:46.:23:53.

three! If it's obvious the opponent is on a clear path to the basket as

:23:54.:24:00.

well. I would just argue it disrupts the flow of the game. I agree

:24:01.:24:07.

completely, I hate it. Catchings... I don't know if it's always worth

:24:08.:24:13.

wasting the foul, because the other side get into the penalty saying

:24:14.:24:21.

position earlier. The long hook shot to get the ball in, two quick

:24:22.:24:27.

baskets for France. Catchings has it ripped away from her by Michel.

:24:28.:24:32.

France is down by 15 with the ball Commander four minutes to play. You

:24:33.:24:38.

have to work quickly here now. Michel comes open. Going to take the

:24:39.:24:43.

shot from the fall line. Bounces out. In bug comes out with Michel on

:24:44.:24:54.

her, tries to push her out of the way, here comes the pic from Tina

:24:55.:25:00.

Charles. Taurasi sets a pic on the baseline, look at how she is being

:25:01.:25:06.

held by Skrela. Catchings got hit. No call. Michel comes down with the

:25:07.:25:13.

layup and it is a 13 point game. Time-out called by the United

:25:14.:25:21.

States. With the score 76-63. France just making noise. When she stopped,

:25:22.:25:29.

Michel kept going for the points. Credit to France the way they have

:25:30.:25:32.

approached the fourth quarter, they are now outscoring the United States

:25:33.:25:38.

19-11, they've gone on a 19 point run. They keep plugging away, that

:25:39.:25:42.

is how they have to approach it, done really well to get into this

:25:43.:25:47.

position. Only once has the United States not scored a hundred points,

:25:48.:25:51.

it might happen again here. The French two away from being the

:25:52.:25:53.

second highest scorers against the US. Dell that end you can't be late

:25:54.:26:02.

on the screens and threes, we can't be late on those switches will stop

:26:03.:26:16.

right now, away from BJ. Did he say Beijing? BJ, I think it was. That

:26:17.:26:23.

was two Olympics ago. It might be one of those plays they come up

:26:24.:26:31.

with, they give codenames to. The interesting thing is France has

:26:32.:26:36.

upped their defensive intensity. Again, in basketball, you play to

:26:37.:26:41.

the referees, the referees are going to allow the contact, you allow the

:26:42.:26:45.

contact. You do it until they tell you you can't. It's the only way I

:26:46.:26:52.

could play at times. Moore is back in the game. She hits, that is what

:26:53.:27:02.

she was therefore. Smooth and easy. 78-63. They are still looking at

:27:03.:27:10.

Catchings. She's a tough competitor. Michel. She was the one who hit

:27:11.:27:14.

Catchings then went down for the layup. Mix the tough drive. This is

:27:15.:27:22.

the second-highest score put up against the United States at the

:27:23.:27:25.

Olympic Games and there might be more to come. Michel getting this

:27:26.:27:28.

deal, the steals from France been extraordinary. Miyem puts it in,

:27:29.:27:37.

it's an 11 point game. I'm not sure anyone has outshot the United States

:27:38.:27:43.

by ten points in a quarter but that is what the French are doing now.

:27:44.:27:47.

Three for the US, right when they needed. Taurasi. Those are the

:27:48.:27:56.

coolers. Sorry, Miyem comes in, it's two, hit three, this is what made

:27:57.:28:00.

you can't so tough when they were playing for Yukon. Credit to the

:28:01.:28:09.

French. Griner tipped it over to Delle Donne. Taurasi. Maya Moore.

:28:10.:28:18.

Throws up an airball. As soon as I say it's... Michel, who worked great

:28:19.:28:22.

position, the ball goes off her. She's arguing the point. I'm not

:28:23.:28:31.

sure if the Canadian umpire is bilingually Canadian, like most of

:28:32.:28:33.

us are. Time-out called by France. I don't

:28:34.:28:44.

know how they will approach the last minute and a half, it's really

:28:45.:28:51.

difficult from here. They've put up an amazing performance. Outscoring

:28:52.:28:56.

the United States in this quarter. They are pushing the US side all the

:28:57.:29:01.

way, I'm not sure anyone has been this strong against the United

:29:02.:29:02.

States this consistently. Sue Bird auditioning for a coaching

:29:03.:29:18.

role. After her retirement. Yeah, and I think this is, in one sense,

:29:19.:29:24.

what the US team needs, they need to be challenged. They need to reach in

:29:25.:29:31.

and find their best. It's too easy when playing teams you can dominate

:29:32.:29:35.

and do what you like. France has made them try to play their best. To

:29:36.:29:40.

be honest, they haven't played their best at all times, France has had

:29:41.:29:45.

them on the back foot. It was the third quarter blow out for the US,

:29:46.:29:48.

besides that, the French have kept pace. That is the problem for any

:29:49.:29:53.

team playing them, the US team is so explosive they can turn a close game

:29:54.:30:00.

into a big lead very quickly. Almost before you realise. Look at the

:30:01.:30:08.

mismatch. Griner moving off. You could see that one coming. It's been

:30:09.:30:15.

great for the French fans, their team has really given them something

:30:16.:30:16.

to cheer about. If France play this well against

:30:17.:30:29.

Serbia they should be able to win the bronze medal.

:30:30.:30:35.

Still a minute ago in this one. They are focused on strongly. The United

:30:36.:30:44.

States look like they are heading towards the gold-medal game. That is

:30:45.:30:48.

why everyone expected them to be. They have put in a dominant

:30:49.:30:51.

performance in the end, but it wasn't always easy. Whalen wanted to

:30:52.:30:56.

work the clock, she dribbled the ball off her put. This is not what

:30:57.:31:05.

we expect from the US team. What a job the French coach has done, to do

:31:06.:31:10.

what she has achieved with this team that came second at the Euro basket.

:31:11.:31:19.

Now they are facing the United States in the semifinal. French

:31:20.:31:23.

woman's basketball is looking strong. French basketball in general

:31:24.:31:29.

is looking strong. I knew would think they have done this without,

:31:30.:31:35.

they played the US pretty well in the Olympic final, with Celine

:31:36.:31:39.

Dumerc, and with a deeper line-up, with players who were not playing in

:31:40.:31:45.

London 2012, really contributing here, including the very young

:31:46.:31:50.

Johannes, who was 17 then, watching at home on TV. Yes, the future is

:31:51.:32:03.

looking very good for France. Taurasi with the rebound from

:32:04.:32:05.

Johannes. Brings it down. Taurasi is all alone for three. She misses,

:32:06.:32:23.

Maya Moore tips the rebound. Michel holds up with Whalen all over her,

:32:24.:32:33.

in fact. Michel again. Looking inside for Amant. It is stripped

:32:34.:32:39.

away by Taurasi. 1.4 seconds left. Amant did pretty well coming off the

:32:40.:32:45.

bench. They got good minutes from Kamba, as well off the bench, Michel

:32:46.:32:51.

of the bench, and there is the buzzer that brings the game to an

:32:52.:32:57.

end. The final score, the US 86, France, 67. The scoreline might make

:32:58.:33:00.

it look easy but it was certainly not easy for the US. They had a

:33:01.:33:06.

runaway in the 3rd quarter, but in the 4th quarter, France outscored

:33:07.:33:14.

them. France made this a game. They played as well in the first half

:33:15.:33:19.

against the US as anyone has done, and they came in the second half and

:33:20.:33:21.

played brilliantly as well. So the USA through to the final as

:33:22.:33:33.

we expected they would be. They face Spain and that's on Saturday at 730.

:33:34.:33:43.

We've been stuck in the BBC Four Kiosk of Dream for most of the night

:33:44.:33:48.

so we're going to go for Rwanda onto the beach. Those are our snacks,

:33:49.:33:55.

wonderful crisps. I'm sure that others are available! Let's have a

:33:56.:34:00.

wander down here. We have all sorts going on. The Copcacabinmen have

:34:01.:34:10.

already been. Over here, I'd like to introduce you to these lovely

:34:11.:34:17.

gentleman, we have two residents of Rio, now lived here for 20 years, Ed

:34:18.:34:33.

and Guy. I shouted over to Guy and check where he was from, Cumbria or

:34:34.:34:39.

Durham and I said exactly the wrong thing again. You both know Rio well.

:34:40.:34:44.

You have been here a long time. What have you made of the Olympics? It

:34:45.:34:49.

has been brilliant so far. The cycling went past the end of our

:34:50.:34:55.

street, which was useful. Do you watch it from your house? We did

:34:56.:35:00.

actually go out. Then we went to the athletics and we saw what should

:35:01.:35:04.

have been Super Saturday, the gold, silver and bronze was OK. Then we

:35:05.:35:09.

have been to watch the triathlon and shout on the Brownlee boys and there

:35:10.:35:13.

are still more to come, which is brilliant. Ed, when the games were

:35:14.:35:24.

first given to Rio, what was your first reaction as a Brazilian?

:35:25.:35:29.

Everyone is enjoying it, the tourist people and even the people that live

:35:30.:35:34.

here. Everyone is happy and they are happy to be out there, together,

:35:35.:35:41.

here. It is a nice atmosphere. Everything is fine. They are happy

:35:42.:35:45.

to be at this moment in Rio. I am very happy to be here. One thing

:35:46.:35:51.

that is important to mention is that when the games were awarded, they

:35:52.:35:55.

financial and economic situation in Brazil was different to what they

:35:56.:35:59.

are now, and throw in a political scandal as well, and it adds up to

:36:00.:36:04.

the frustration that some residents of Rio and more widely in Brazil

:36:05.:36:10.

have shown. Absolutely. In reality it has been good for the self-esteem

:36:11.:36:15.

of the city. We have had a difficult year politically and economically.

:36:16.:36:19.

And things are not going to get better that quickly. But we have

:36:20.:36:23.

seen that Rio can hold the major sporting event in the world, and it

:36:24.:36:28.

has been a success. And Rio needs to be congratulated for that. What do

:36:29.:36:34.

you think the legacy will be? It is a hard question. The talk about this

:36:35.:36:39.

at this stage when the Olympics are drawing to an end, but what is it

:36:40.:36:44.

going to be like, 8-12 years from now? Do you think there will be

:36:45.:36:49.

something here that they will look back and say, actually, it did make

:36:50.:36:53.

a difference. Everything is going fine with the city. The transport is

:36:54.:36:59.

much better now and the city is much more organised. So I think, for the

:37:00.:37:04.

future, the people will be more comfortable to come and visit us and

:37:05.:37:09.

have the facilities. I think it is a good legacy. One thing that I have

:37:10.:37:16.

learned in the last two and a half weeks is that Cariocas are proud of

:37:17.:37:19.

their city and proud to be Brazilian. Which is why what has

:37:20.:37:24.

happened with the American swimmers, the story developing today, the

:37:25.:37:28.

truth of what happened which might not be near what they suggested,

:37:29.:37:33.

that has actually offended the people of Rio. It has. There has

:37:34.:37:38.

been so much negative press about the Olympics, and there are giving

:37:39.:37:42.

the Olympics to Rio. Really, it is disgraceful to use the crime that

:37:43.:37:47.

does exist in Rio, it does exist and we know it does, but to use that as

:37:48.:37:53.

an excuse is disgraceful. And I hope that they really do apologise to the

:37:54.:37:58.

city of Rio. Do you want to say something about that as well, Ed?

:37:59.:38:04.

Just enjoy the city. I have spoken to lots of people wearing Team GB

:38:05.:38:10.

outfits. Because I live here, I ask them, what is your experience? And I

:38:11.:38:16.

have only heard good things. It is not a bad place. Come and visit Rio.

:38:17.:38:23.

It is cool. From the two representatives of the Rio tourist

:38:24.:38:26.

board, I was here for six weeks for the World Cup, we have spoken to

:38:27.:38:32.

loads of locals on BBC Four. I know that your friends back in England

:38:33.:38:37.

have been telling you about then party. Can I say hello Stuart, and

:38:38.:38:43.

hello Mum, because I woke her up and told her to watch. Helen Smith,

:38:44.:38:48.

Dalton in Furness, Cumbria. Does she live in Durham as well? She does

:38:49.:38:59.

not! Hello Helen and the rest of Guy's family. We will make sure that

:39:00.:39:11.

we enjoy our time in Rio. Watch our very handy BBC guide to handball. We

:39:12.:39:14.

have got some handball coming up. Olympic handball is a high-scoring

:39:15.:39:26.

body contact game played all the two halves of 30 minutes. It is played

:39:27.:39:31.

by two teams of seven, six outfield players and the goalkeeper. Each

:39:32.:39:35.

bullet surrounded by a semi-circular area indicated by a line six metres

:39:36.:39:40.

from the goal. Only the defending goalkeeper is allowed in this area.

:39:41.:39:45.

Players can move with the ball by dribbling and passing in the same

:39:46.:39:49.

way that a basketball player would. They can block the ball with their

:39:50.:39:54.

head, chest, Pfizer and knees but players cannot stand still with the

:39:55.:39:57.

ball for more than three seconds at the time. If the player commits a

:39:58.:40:02.

foul, the referee can award a free throw or a seven metre shot, taken

:40:03.:40:06.

from the seven metre line, and it is given when the referee rules that

:40:07.:40:11.

someone has Brexit -- prevented a goal-scoring opportunity. The

:40:12.:40:14.

free-throw is taken from the sport foul occurred. It is taken from the

:40:15.:40:20.

free-throw line if it happens inside this area. Overtime is played during

:40:21.:40:24.

the knockout phase if schools are tied at the end of regulation time.

:40:25.:40:29.

If this happens teams play five minutes extra and only play another

:40:30.:40:33.

five minutes if this scores are still tied. If the teams are still

:40:34.:40:37.

tied then the result is decided by a shoot out. Having a little game of

:40:38.:40:50.

football here with Nicolai and Juan. Solid left foot, come on, Nicolai.

:40:51.:40:59.

He is looking at himself on the screen. Are you staring at yourself

:41:00.:41:04.

on that television screen? Lovely skills, beautiful. They are looking

:41:05.:41:12.

at themselves. Have a look at them, looking at themselves on the camera.

:41:13.:41:17.

Can you see? That is you on there, look. Thank you very much, guys.

:41:18.:41:30.

Nice to see you. I know that you're thinking what are they doing out

:41:31.:41:36.

that late? It is only 8:40pm. That is what happens, football on the

:41:37.:41:40.

beach. We are getting some handball from the Future Arena now. Two of

:41:41.:41:45.

the favourites, we have no way taking on Russia. Norway are ranked

:41:46.:41:50.

fourth in the world. They are looking for their third straight

:41:51.:41:55.

gold in the women's handball. Russia won the silver back in 2008. This is

:41:56.:42:01.

a semifinal so the winner will go through to the gold medal match. It

:42:02.:42:04.

is a game that Peter Schmeichel used to play. Just talking about Peter

:42:05.:42:10.

Schmeichel. He used to play football for Manchester United. Just talking

:42:11.:42:16.

to the lads, sorry. Peter Schmeichel said he used to play handball, which

:42:17.:42:22.

is where his distinctive goalkeeping style came from. And we saw a bit of

:42:23.:42:24.

that in goal, there. Picking up a yellow card for that

:42:25.:42:56.

file early on. -- for that foul. It looked like a robust challenge from

:42:57.:43:02.

Kristiansen. It might not have been that bad. The referee has chosen not

:43:03.:43:04.

to realise it too harshly. Finding the net. Norway seven,

:43:05.:43:17.

Russia six. She has got good face on her. The playmaker, 20 years of age.

:43:18.:43:26.

Patched back towards the middle. And despite lots of close attention she

:43:27.:43:33.

managed to get the ball away. Norway ahead by one goal with ten minutes

:43:34.:43:39.

gone and is Olympic semifinal. Norway coming forward. She manages

:43:40.:43:46.

to get her left arm on the ball. Finds the back of the net. Norway

:43:47.:43:51.

restoring their two goal advantage, and another goal for Herrem. Some of

:43:52.:44:09.

the Russians coming back against this 6-0 defence by Norway, which we

:44:10.:44:16.

have seen has plenty of depth to it. On that occasion, they allowed the

:44:17.:44:22.

ball to sneak out. Russia, still right on their heels. So a goal from

:44:23.:44:42.

Anna Sen for Russia. And the shot came in, but Russia saved it, and

:44:43.:44:50.

now come charging forward. And the Norwegians, waiting to come off.

:44:51.:45:01.

Switching to a 5-1 defence at the moment. Dropping back into the 6-0

:45:02.:45:08.

defence, and she seems to be holding her stomach as if she has taken a

:45:09.:45:14.

blow. The long pass, incredibly well placed, it's perfect, and it had to

:45:15.:45:17.

be. That was a fourth goal. Just got on

:45:18.:45:33.

the end of it. Incredible, isn't it? One-handed, then dropped it down

:45:34.:45:39.

with a bit of spin. Fourth goal from four shots, then Russia comeback

:45:40.:45:47.

immediately and get a goal. Bobrovnikova finishing that one off.

:45:48.:45:56.

Getting it passed Grimsbo. Rostov Donna worked tipped to win the

:45:57.:45:59.

Russian championship this season, but lost in the end. Finished fourth

:46:00.:46:03.

in the regular season but came through in the play-offs. Surprised

:46:04.:46:09.

everyone. At Christmas time they were mid-table. Shows the skill and

:46:10.:46:18.

the guile of the coach. Nicely done again, a lot of pressure, but that's

:46:19.:46:25.

what she likes,, she can soak it up all day. Links up with her two good

:46:26.:46:33.

friends. Just outside the area, under the keeper. That is what it

:46:34.:46:39.

means to Heidi in her second Olympic Games. 71% success rate for the

:46:40.:46:50.

Norwegians on their shooting. Leading by two but the Russians are

:46:51.:46:55.

still there or thereabouts. Drop Zidane catches it on her foot. They

:46:56.:47:05.

appear to be pushing up. Think she's going to slot back in. Up goes

:47:06.:47:09.

Kuznetsov. Again trying to make some space on

:47:10.:47:38.

the line. Loke plays in Hungary. She's latched onto, doesn't let go.

:47:39.:47:46.

Given a yellow card. As Loke tried to wriggle free. These shirts are

:47:47.:47:52.

made of some tough stuff. Past the halfway point, Norway 10-8 Russia in

:47:53.:47:58.

this Olympic semifinal. A long shot coming in, blocked, not quite. The

:47:59.:48:05.

counterattack. Nicely done by Loke, looked like Russia would sprint away

:48:06.:48:10.

with it, Loke rescued it, then found the back of the net. Her foot work

:48:11.:48:16.

is incredible, look at the sidestep. Then launches herself off the wrong

:48:17.:48:26.

foot. And right-handed. Those looking for the gap. Bobrovnikova

:48:27.:48:30.

hammers it in as everybody focused on the player coming in from the

:48:31.:48:38.

side. Norway 11-9 Russia. A good effort from Bobrovnikova into the

:48:39.:48:45.

top left of the goal. 20 goals in less than 70 minutes here, Mork to

:48:46.:49:01.

Loke, took a touch on a defender. There isn't over lap. Dmitriyeva.

:49:02.:49:13.

That was easy. Her fourth goal. Goes across. Herrem inside the area

:49:14.:49:19.

couldn't have done too much about this. Team time-out called.

:49:20.:49:53.

The team time-out comes to an end. A game that has seen a huge amount of

:49:54.:50:01.

fast breaks and phase two tax, when you are attacking against a team

:50:02.:50:05.

still falling in defence, trying to get organised. A lot of these

:50:06.:50:13.

attacks are very short bursts, very quick from both sides. With a

:50:14.:50:17.

measure of success clearly with 21 goals in 17 minutes. Not counting

:50:18.:50:24.

the fact we've also had nine saves by the combined efforts of

:50:25.:50:39.

Grimsbo... It's no way coming forward now. Played out of the wing.

:50:40.:50:45.

It is saved by Erokhina. The 31-year-old picks the ball back up

:50:46.:50:52.

again. She's been a real danger coming in off the left wing so far.

:50:53.:50:57.

Catching the legs of the Russian goalkeeper, giving Russia a chance

:50:58.:51:01.

to draw level in the match as they come forward with 18 minutes on the

:51:02.:51:10.

clock. Nice switch. They were focusing on the ball going across

:51:11.:51:15.

the court but Kuznetsov passes the ball and then follows it a few

:51:16.:51:21.

minutes later. They are not picking up, the winners, and running from

:51:22.:51:29.

this side. Second goal for Kuznetsova. Earlier it was Loke

:51:30.:51:40.

stranded on the wing, then she went past. Mork in the middle. This is

:51:41.:51:46.

quick play, one of the longer organised attacks by the Norwegians.

:51:47.:51:52.

We have an attacking foul called against Heidi Loke. The Russians not

:51:53.:51:59.

waiting around. The line player from Ross Dundon hammers it away. Norway

:52:00.:52:06.

were changing about four players. Against a team like Russia that is

:52:07.:52:09.

asking for trouble, opens up the defence. It's almost the old

:52:10.:52:16.

Hungarian style we saw many years ago, more than half the team would

:52:17.:52:20.

change and the Norwegians would be exploiting attacks up the wing

:52:21.:52:23.

knowing it was coming. They have to be careful because the Russians will

:52:24.:52:31.

continue exploiting it. You have two hope it was one of those blips where

:52:32.:52:34.

he asked for changes and they all came off at the same time.

:52:35.:52:43.

Ball from Mork. Norway 12-12 Russia. The teams are level. Mork high

:52:44.:53:00.

efficiency with her shooting, but today struggling a little. Three

:53:01.:53:03.

from six, as we see that foul earlier. Always willing to take

:53:04.:53:09.

players on one-on-one getting wrestled to the ground. Throwing her

:53:10.:53:13.

arms up, as if to say, what's the problem? On for Norway, Oftedal.

:53:14.:53:24.

Smashed it off the post from Cobra, Russia leading 13-12. They've come

:53:25.:53:32.

from behind to slightly edgy against Norway. They kept their heads, the

:53:33.:53:40.

Russians, even when the Norwegians opened up a small lead. They've been

:53:41.:53:44.

in a few sticky situations before, the Russians. Nice and calm. Plenty

:53:45.:53:49.

of choice on the bench to turn if any players aren't quite coping with

:53:50.:53:54.

it very well. That came off a defender, it's come off the

:53:55.:53:57.

goalkeeper on the last touch before crossing the backline. It's a

:53:58.:54:05.

goalkeeper throw. Bobrovnikova was racing for it. Very good reaction

:54:06.:54:15.

save from Erokhina. The shot came in from Arntzen. Now Dmitriyeva.

:54:16.:54:20.

Bobrovnikova tries to feed it in. The whistle goes. Two minute

:54:21.:54:29.

suspension. She's only just come on, Frafjord, she's the one with the

:54:30.:54:32.

ankle injury from the quarterfinal. Grabs the shirt. And goes down, you

:54:33.:54:37.

can see the ankle is heavily strapped. She hobbles off. It wasn't

:54:38.:54:42.

really worth putting her on, if she's injured, give her a couple of

:54:43.:54:46.

days extra recovery and hope the team will do the business. Arntzen

:54:47.:54:53.

capable of doing the defensive role if needed. Here come Norway, sorry,

:54:54.:55:01.

Russia. There is the long shot. Fired in. The strength of that shot

:55:02.:55:10.

from Dmitriyeva. Well, it's a success rate with some of the long

:55:11.:55:13.

range efforts catching up the Norwegian goalkeeper. At the moment

:55:14.:55:24.

the Russians seem to have the measure of her. Mork has her sleeves

:55:25.:55:34.

pulled up. If given a choice she would remove the sleeves.

:55:35.:55:40.

The line is so well covered by the Russians, they are so aware of the

:55:41.:55:47.

danger of Loke. Good plot, doing well trying to get the ball out.

:55:48.:55:52.

Mork almost happy to take it... They got the ball away. What a beautiful

:55:53.:56:01.

finish from Bobrovnikova. It was Sen that won it, drove it forward. The

:56:02.:56:07.

finish from Bobrovnikova was superb. Sen in, turning, and putting

:56:08.:56:13.

backspin on it to float it over the goalkeeper. Bobrovnikova scores

:56:14.:56:22.

against her club team-mate, Lunde, in goal. The Russians watching their

:56:23.:56:31.

team mate on court beating the Norwegians at their own game. Norway

:56:32.:56:34.

have so much experience, never write them off. Back inside, almost an

:56:35.:56:41.

attacking foul. Mork, you stand back, you pay the price. Norway

:56:42.:56:46.

backed up to their full component but two goals down now. Almost a

:56:47.:56:51.

slide tackle in there, wasn't there, as Mork found the bottom left of the

:56:52.:56:58.

net. Norway backed up to seven players. Mork for the side of the

:56:59.:57:04.

court as they bring on the defensive squad again. Bobrovnikova... They

:57:05.:57:12.

are teasing, but a second line player. Bliznova drops out again.

:57:13.:57:20.

It's all sideways at the moment, no one driving in. We've had a slip at

:57:21.:57:28.

the back. Bobrovnikova is the one who is in pain, we may have a

:57:29.:57:33.

suspension. Just confirming the referees have made the right

:57:34.:57:37.

decision. Trying to make a substitution. There it is. Sure it

:57:38.:57:43.

was entirely intentional by Loke, trying to get to the defender,

:57:44.:57:49.

catches Bobrovnikova. She's gone off for the time being. Teen time-out

:57:50.:58:02.

now. For Russia. -- team time-out. The suspended player, Heidi Loke,

:58:03.:58:03.

has gone off. I'm not being flippant here, but

:58:04.:58:51.

that was a reasonably calm coach. Extremely calm, as good as it gets,

:58:52.:58:56.

in full anger management mode. He is leading by two, they play a good

:58:57.:59:01.

fast game, defending well, Loke not getting a look at the ball, if you

:59:02.:59:05.

forgive the other pun, as I have to slip one in. So far so good for

:59:06.:59:13.

Russia. Reverses into the defender, she will get in earful. -- Takeshi

:59:14.:59:17.

will get an earful. We could see during the team

:59:18.:59:29.

time-out Bobrovnikova still rubbing her eye. The danger with a touch in

:59:30.:59:34.

the face is that you pick up some of the resin. The situation for Norway

:59:35.:59:41.

is that they have put a line player, Frafjord, as an attacker. She has

:59:42.:59:44.

been used predominantly as a defender, put into the frame now.

:59:45.:59:53.

Miss connection completely, that was meant for another player. The top

:59:54.:00:06.

Russian scorers are wing players. Kuznetsova. Two goals for her. And

:00:07.:00:14.

no goals for the other big hitter. A lot of the play is down the middle

:00:15.:00:19.

for Russia. Trying to open up gaps in the middle is, as they do again

:00:20.:00:23.

there. Courtesy of Dmitriyeva, who is having a very successful game.

:00:24.:00:36.

The winger chapters have been occasional, but they've taken

:00:37.:00:36.

them when they've had them. Lunde beaten by the shot by Dmitriyeva,

:00:37.:00:41.

Russia three goals to the good. And now here come Norway.

:00:42.:00:51.

That is going to be a penalty. They would normally play the whole match

:00:52.:01:00.

but they have to change one of the stars. There is Frafjord, but she

:01:01.:01:15.

did the business. Here comes more. She scores and bounces occurring.

:01:16.:01:19.

Norway 14, Russia 16, in four minutes to go. It has been a very

:01:20.:01:23.

fast paced and entertaining first half. Straightforward therefore

:01:24.:01:42.

Mork. Now Russia come forward. Kuznetsova crowds were centre there.

:01:43.:01:49.

It is a clumsy foul and Dmitriyeva goes down. Play has been stopped, I

:01:50.:01:58.

think there was a bit of mopping required on the ground. A very

:01:59.:02:05.

theatrical fall. I think she would fit in the Bolshoi Theatre! A foul

:02:06.:02:21.

it was. They switch around now. It goes straight through and she only

:02:22.:02:30.

gets a free throw. Vyakhireva sitting on the outside. She has been

:02:31.:02:42.

at successful with those up until now, Dmitriyeva, the quick

:02:43.:02:46.

snapshots, but that occasion it was way over the goal. Norway come

:02:47.:02:59.

forward and the penalty is given. Christiansen tried to drive-in. She

:03:00.:03:02.

was brought down. It comes Mork again, into the back

:03:03.:03:29.

of the net. Norway get the gap back to within one goal, with just two

:03:30.:03:33.

and a half minutes to go in the first half in this semifinal. 31

:03:34.:03:43.

goals now in this first half. Cheers for the Norwegian fans after that

:03:44.:03:47.

well taken penalty right in the corner. Two minutes to go, little

:03:48.:03:51.

crossover in a handoff, and that wasn't badly done. So much pressure.

:03:52.:03:58.

That is a free flow --. Every time the Norwegians make a block they

:03:59.:04:03.

have high-fives all around and really encourage each other. It is

:04:04.:04:11.

as good as a goal. That same position on Grimsbo has struggled

:04:12.:04:15.

with it as well. That position from standing has caught out the

:04:16.:04:18.

goalkeeper on several occasions in this game. Norway will want to be

:04:19.:04:28.

back at least within one goal or ideally drawing level, clearly, in

:04:29.:04:32.

the final. One minute left of this match. They have an extra line

:04:33.:04:40.

player in. They are trying to create a corridor down the middle. Oftedal

:04:41.:04:55.

scores. They created a corridor right between the goalkeeper 's

:04:56.:05:06.

ankles. Straight down the middle. Of the leading scorers Mork has picked

:05:07.:05:22.

up 64 Norway. Finished off by Grimsbo.

:05:23.:05:33.

Bobrovnikova was once again instrumental in sacking in the

:05:34.:05:39.

defence. 21 seconds to go. The Russians look to give away three

:05:40.:05:44.

follows -- free throws if necessary. That will be a free throw but they

:05:45.:05:49.

won't have time to take it. The Russians stand in Britain to close

:05:50.:05:53.

so the referee will have two wave them off and the Norwegians will

:05:54.:06:02.

take the time now to take a free throw and MOrk steps up. She is not

:06:03.:06:07.

the tallest player. I wonder if she was trying to hit the camera at the

:06:08.:06:11.

back that it failed. That as the half-time break and for the Russians

:06:12.:06:16.

the tactics are working. That man has guided his team to a two goal

:06:17.:06:21.

advantage at the break. It has been a very entertaining and fast paced

:06:22.:06:25.

first half in this Olympic semifinal. Discussions are starting

:06:26.:06:29.

already for the Norwegians and they have to find a way back. At

:06:30.:06:36.

half-time it is 18-16 to Russia. We shall be back with Paul and Jack for

:06:37.:06:43.

the second half of that. We are on air on BBC for all the way through

:06:44.:06:49.

until 2am. I am sorry to disappoint so many of you tonight to keep

:06:50.:06:53.

asking where Antony Worrall Thompson is, some of you are using a hash tag

:06:54.:07:02.

AWT. You can see for yourself, there is nothing here tonight. Normally be

:07:03.:07:07.

on the shrubbery we have circuit trainers. Nine nights on the trot al

:07:08.:07:11.

Antony Worrall Thompson lookalike has been there but tonight, I doubt

:07:12.:07:15.

that they are fed up with being looked at every evening, nothing.

:07:16.:07:20.

Just two kids scurrying across the sands down towards the beach. I feel

:07:21.:07:25.

slightly lonely without them. I like to see people dragging stuff around

:07:26.:07:30.

the beach and I like to see him doing the soft-shoe shuffle across

:07:31.:07:34.

the sand. Maybe he's back home in the UK launching a new menu in his

:07:35.:07:39.

restaurant, who knows? We will get to the bottom of it. We have two

:07:40.:07:44.

more nights down here on Copacabana Beach on BBC Four. It would feel

:07:45.:07:50.

wrong not to sign off without him. We hope Maria and her fiance will be

:07:51.:07:55.

back on Friday night. We have had her mum and her dad stop we will

:07:56.:08:04.

definitely have the Copaca- binmen, they like waving every night. We

:08:05.:08:11.

have not had it about because they do not sell them on the beach after

:08:12.:08:18.

dark. A lot of people have asked why there have been so many people on

:08:19.:08:22.

the beach today, there is a bank holiday today on Rio de Janeiro. If

:08:23.:08:26.

you'll be wondering whether beach has been packed on Thursday, it is

:08:27.:08:31.

because it is bank holiday and the first two days of the games they

:08:32.:08:35.

were public holidays in Rio as well which was why it was so busy at the

:08:36.:08:40.

start of the games. Ben Clarke says handball is a cracking sport and he

:08:41.:08:44.

gave it a go after 2012 and it wasn't any good because throwing and

:08:45.:08:47.

jumping at the same time was too much. We really appreciate your

:08:48.:08:54.

texts and tweets. The hashed tag to use is #bbcrio2016. You know all the

:08:55.:09:03.

hash tag that we like. Copaca- binmen, Copaca- banter. It is early

:09:04.:09:16.

morning down in the UK. I know you enjoy staying with us until 2am.

:09:17.:09:26.

Jade Jones fights... She fights in the final, if she's there, at 2am on

:09:27.:09:32.

BBC One. We will show you her semifinal now. She was one of the

:09:33.:09:42.

real stars of the London games. The winner of this goes through to the

:09:43.:09:49.

gold medal match. Coming in now on the 21 year from Malmo. She is most

:09:50.:10:04.

recently the blondes medallist at the European games, Nikita

:10:05.:10:06.

Glasnovic. Her father is in the crowd. -- bronze medallist. There is

:10:07.:10:15.

great support here for Jade Jones, the fighter from Flint in Wales. She

:10:16.:10:24.

looks so composed and ready. Our coach is leading the 23 old

:10:25.:10:30.

interposition, and what position this is. She looks really cool and

:10:31.:10:34.

calm and collected and she knows what she has to do. She is the

:10:35.:10:38.

defending champion and she will get the job down. How nice is that? She

:10:39.:10:46.

shows absolute respect their for her opponent and right away across there

:10:47.:10:52.

before the contest begins. Professional etiquette and respect.

:10:53.:10:57.

It will give way to a fierce battle here. Nikita Glasnovic going against

:10:58.:11:05.

Jade Jones of Great Britain. Alvares, from Venezuelan, is the man

:11:06.:11:21.

in the middle. This is the semifinals, a big win here and you

:11:22.:11:26.

can guess what will happen after that. Gold and silver on the

:11:27.:11:33.

horizon. We are at the Carioca Arena one number three, downtown Rio. A

:11:34.:11:41.

big crowd, big occasion. Six minutes to decide it. Glasnovic comes

:11:42.:11:46.

forward and uses the Bush kick. Jones responds and very aggressive.

:11:47.:11:52.

A great push kick in response. She came forward straightaway. Both of

:11:53.:12:04.

them are coming forward. Jones avoids Glasnovic 's reach. She tries

:12:05.:12:08.

to flick one out of her own. This is a battle for territory. They are

:12:09.:12:17.

looking for the space. A Punch and kick from Jones there on the way

:12:18.:12:22.

through but no purchase on it. Glasnovic is likely the taller of

:12:23.:12:27.

the two and the strength advantage you would fancy for Jones. She tries

:12:28.:12:32.

to flick one upstairs. Three points for a head kick, one for a straight

:12:33.:12:37.

shot to the body. If you can spin you get extra points. At the moment

:12:38.:12:40.

it is the referee who separates them. It has been an excellent

:12:41.:12:46.

opening first minute. Yes, they have been feeling each other out but good

:12:47.:12:50.

defence from both, as well as attack, which is a great thing to

:12:51.:12:53.

say, but they are both great athletes.

:12:54.:13:01.

The Great Britain contingent in the crowd are trying to cheer forward

:13:02.:13:09.

Jade Jones. She shipped back though. A Welsh warrior going forward with

:13:10.:13:13.

that front leg push kick. Taekwondo is all about optimal distance.

:13:14.:13:18.

Everyone's legs are different length than they like to fight at a

:13:19.:13:22.

different range but when you find a space, you have to go for it. Going

:13:23.:13:28.

for the head again, Jade Jones, she gets the body though, simple Bush

:13:29.:13:32.

kick. Nikita Glasnovic with 20 seconds left now, the Swede is going

:13:33.:13:36.

to have to think about their tactics. Shut up shop or go for it.

:13:37.:13:44.

A good shot again from Jones, getting closer to the head.

:13:45.:13:48.

Glasnovic within a bit of trouble and she will be glad to hear the

:13:49.:13:54.

buzz here. She changed feet there with that turning kick, Jade Jones,

:13:55.:13:56.

but a great start for her. We try to have a sneaky lesson to

:13:57.:14:13.

the coaches there but a stalemate and Jade Jones finding that little

:14:14.:14:17.

bit of accuracy. That is what it is all about. The whole game is about

:14:18.:14:22.

the accuracy and obviously it is about space as well, closing the

:14:23.:14:23.

space at the right time. Speaking of time, it is ticking away

:14:24.:14:38.

now. Both fighters have last-minute bits of rest. The Welsh contingent

:14:39.:14:47.

in the crowd. Paul Green, the coach, himself an Olympian back in Athens,

:14:48.:14:53.

but this is the Rio Olympic Games. Nikita Glasnovic of Sweden one point

:14:54.:14:58.

down against Jade Jones. The Swede trying to come forward, good defence

:14:59.:15:08.

from Jones. That push kick is just so effective there from Jade Jones.

:15:09.:15:15.

She tries again as you say from the back kick. The Swede is resolute and

:15:16.:15:20.

hanging on in there, just a 1-point game. Change that, it's a 2-point

:15:21.:15:26.

game. It changes so quickly. It is a crumb of comfort for Jones.

:15:27.:15:29.

Difficult for Glasnovic now. Great combinations as well. Well

:15:30.:15:53.

blocked by Glasnovic. Jade Jones, ever focused. That is a gift of a

:15:54.:16:09.

point. That is one of the biggest things, she is so focused.

:16:10.:16:22.

Found an open door, the Swede. Found the face of the Flint fighter.

:16:23.:16:39.

She committed, but let herself open for that, didn't she? Credit to the

:16:40.:16:46.

Swede on that one. Glasnovic turns defence into attack. It was a

:16:47.:16:50.

1-point game at the end of the first round. There is a kyong go against

:16:51.:17:06.

the Swede. Jade Jones has a 1-point lead. Neil Adams, Olympian yourself,

:17:07.:17:13.

silver medallist yourself, you know what it is like trying to get into

:17:14.:17:18.

the final. Absolutely. It is one of the hardest things in the world. You

:17:19.:17:24.

know you have everything resting on this. I don't know what her coach

:17:25.:17:31.

will say to her, but for me, we have seen so many that have been lost in

:17:32.:17:38.

the last two minutes. So she has to keep focused, keep her head in the

:17:39.:17:48.

game. Glasnovic has been focused as well, the Swede very much involved.

:17:49.:17:58.

The 21-year-old from Malmo has excellent pedigree coming into this,

:17:59.:18:02.

Nikita Glasnovic just one point down against Jade Jones. An excellent

:18:03.:18:12.

push kick from Jade Jones, a good start. Jones beginning to get

:18:13.:18:28.

dominance here. It is not just accurate, it has power as well.

:18:29.:18:36.

Fantastic stuff from Jones. She gets another three points. Look at this,

:18:37.:18:45.

really going to work. She turns defence into attack. They don't had

:18:46.:18:53.

a look at her corner, looking for a potential head shot, but her coach

:18:54.:19:02.

thought better of it. Nikita Glasnovic, from Sweden. We have seen

:19:03.:19:09.

her flexibility. Does she have the variety? Jade Jones, excellent

:19:10.:19:19.

strength keeping the at bay. That is what she has to think about now,

:19:20.:19:24.

defence rather than going forward. When she got scored against, she was

:19:25.:19:36.

going forwards. Well defended by Jones. High drama in downtown Rio,

:19:37.:19:49.

gold medals at stake. Can't afford to go outside the area. She needs to

:19:50.:19:55.

stand her ground. She has got good defence, just use it now. Glasnovic

:19:56.:20:11.

looks exhausted. Jade Jones defending resolutely, a formidable

:20:12.:20:16.

force, the fighter from Flint. It is all about timing, using the push

:20:17.:20:28.

kick to keep her at bay. Nikita Glasnovic on the attack, trying to

:20:29.:20:34.

go forward, Jade Jones using her footwork. She will take a kyong-go.

:20:35.:20:39.

It will be a 5-point game now. Jones avoids the headshot. She knows she

:20:40.:20:44.

has one foot in the Olympic final, one foot on the edge of the ring.

:20:45.:20:51.

The crowd are up for this one. Takes the kyong-go. The referee almost

:20:52.:20:54.

takes one in the head from Glasnovic. Can Jade Jones defend her

:20:55.:21:07.

title? She is in the final, her second consecutive Olympic final.

:21:08.:21:10.

The British in the crowd go absolutely mad. Great support out

:21:11.:21:17.

there. That was amazing. Jade Jones, going for her second Olympic title.

:21:18.:21:27.

Well done to Jade Jones, who is into the gold medal match. That will take

:21:28.:21:31.

place at two o'clock, your time, in about 40 minutes on BBC One. And

:21:32.:21:36.

there will be Usain Bolt as well. A bit of this coming up for you later.

:21:37.:21:40.

We promised a bit of synchronised swimming. Have a look at this. This

:21:41.:21:44.

is the Russian Federation, eight of them in total. Actually, nine. Some

:21:45.:21:54.

real shoulder shuffle there. The whole routine is coming up later.

:21:55.:22:00.

And there they are evening, boys! The Copacabinmen have gone past,

:22:01.:22:04.

life. It is like we timed it perfectly. They have done their job,

:22:05.:22:10.

all four kilometres on the beach, and they are on their way home.

:22:11.:22:14.

Always lovely to get the Copacabinmen on life. I know some

:22:15.:22:18.

people missed it and were devastated earlier, so hopefully you were

:22:19.:22:23.

watching. We will show you the fall Russian citrus swimming routine

:22:24.:22:25.

before we leave at two o'clock. We would go back to the handball,

:22:26.:22:31.

because Russia are playing Norway. We rejoin it in the second half. It

:22:32.:22:33.

is tight, two goals in it. COMMENTATOR: A minute and a half

:22:34.:22:57.

gone in this 30 minute second half. Won by Norway. It is fired over, but

:22:58.:23:10.

the foul given. Kurtovic was fouled. A very good steel. As Kurtovic tried

:23:11.:23:25.

to go up, she is bundled over. She gets a push in the back, and that is

:23:26.:23:30.

given a penalty. Not only that, but for the earlier foul. Norway are

:23:31.:23:43.

back to within a goal. Now they will have a player advantage. Now Norway

:23:44.:24:05.

have seven players, Russia with six. That will be a

:24:06.:24:06.

That came through between two defenders. Norway need to take

:24:07.:24:49.

advantage of this. They have drawn level. It was Kurtovic, the half

:24:50.:24:56.

Croatian, half Swedish player. But she says her heart is Norwegian.

:24:57.:25:04.

Finds the back of the net. She is one of six players who played for

:25:05.:25:09.

the Norwegian champions. Had a good season with them, 96 goals scored

:25:10.:25:16.

and 55 in the Champions League. The Norwegians press forward. Lovely!

:25:17.:25:23.

But unfortunately, not enough application. Grimsbo still had tears

:25:24.:25:30.

in her eyes from that last one. Ouch! Came off her hands and smacked

:25:31.:25:36.

her in the face. An occupational hazard for goalkeepers, but it never

:25:37.:25:46.

makes it easier. 19-19. Christiansen was unlucky with that shot a moment

:25:47.:25:51.

ago that was said and then bounced off the post.

:25:52.:26:15.

That was almost an attacking foul. A stare at the referees. After Dell

:26:16.:26:45.

comes back to take the free throw. -- Oftedal. A bit of mopping to do,

:26:46.:26:58.

which has delayed the start, giving the Norwegian fans a chance to start

:26:59.:27:06.

singing. An attacking foul. She says they were inside the area, but the

:27:07.:27:08.

referees don't agree. And they slap in the face. Mork may

:27:09.:27:29.

be in trouble. It is a second time, almost a carbon copy of the last

:27:30.:27:35.

suspension. Catching the same player in the face. She is going to have to

:27:36.:27:41.

watch herself now. One more, and it will be a red card. Two fairly

:27:42.:27:51.

accidental and innocuous moments. Another, and that would be quite a

:27:52.:27:57.

way to get sent off. Anna Sen finds the back of the net. Both Oftedal

:27:58.:28:08.

and Christian tried to grab the ball, but it came to Anna Sen. Anna

:28:09.:28:18.

Sen had spell at the club where plays. Didn't last all that long in

:28:19.:28:24.

the end, and went back to Russia. So while they are short-handed, Norway

:28:25.:28:25.

take out their goalkeeper. It is a throw-in. But still, the

:28:26.:28:40.

passive play signal lasts. The goalkeeper was still coming

:28:41.:29:10.

back. If Russia had spotted that, they would have had an empty net,

:29:11.:29:15.

but they didn't. The whistle has gone anyway for a Russian

:29:16.:29:21.

free-throw. As you say, Cal Green could have done it. This is the

:29:22.:29:25.

first tournament where this new rule has been used. Teams are still

:29:26.:29:33.

getting used to it. We have seen quite a few where you are almost

:29:34.:29:37.

shutting down the microphone, there is no goalkeeper! But sometimes they

:29:38.:29:42.

like to move the board because they are worried about missing the long

:29:43.:29:43.

shot. Two on the line now for Russia.

:29:44.:29:58.

Bobridge -- Bobridge Hope goes through with her seventh goal of the

:29:59.:30:03.

game. They are increasing their lead -- Bobrovnikova. A good game for

:30:04.:30:09.

Bobrovnikova, who only had 19 goals coming into this match. So to get

:30:10.:30:14.

seven in this one is impressive stuff.

:30:15.:30:38.

Norway are back to strength again and have put in a second-line

:30:39.:30:43.

player. That clumsy challenge just caught a face, and look what

:30:44.:30:50.

happened. Play resumes, and the winger tries again. Back around

:30:51.:30:57.

comes Camilla Herrem. There is a lot of movement on the defence. That is

:30:58.:31:07.

a penalty. Somehow smuggled in to Heidi Loke and they have been

:31:08.:31:13.

working so hard to starve her balls. Her arm was taken above Vyakhireva.

:31:14.:31:22.

Vyakhireva was in the area as well so pick or choose what you want to

:31:23.:31:26.

give the penalty therefore. Nora Mork misses it. It comes back again,

:31:27.:31:37.

and it is in. It looked as though Victoria Kalinina had made a

:31:38.:31:39.

tremendous double say but she just couldn't keep the second one out.

:31:40.:31:48.

The keeper does superbly well and, just on the leg the second time, how

:31:49.:31:56.

unlucky. She has clearly impressed, Victoria Kalinina, because she has

:31:57.:31:59.

been signed by the Russian coach to go to his club. That is bounced

:32:00.:32:08.

under the keeper. Victoria Kalinina, as she tried to get up quickly, she

:32:09.:32:12.

stumbled back down. Whether that has injured her or not or it was just a

:32:13.:32:17.

little trip and she will be fine? It was a weak pass from the

:32:18.:32:32.

Bobrovnikova -- Bobrovnikova. We cut away from seeing Victoria Kalinina

:32:33.:32:40.

getup. A mistake by Stine Bredal Oftedal. The Russian fans are

:32:41.:32:47.

absolutely delighted with that. She gets up and the push by Camilla

:32:48.:32:51.

Herrem sees her sent off for a two-minute suspension. There it is.

:32:52.:33:05.

One goal in it and it is a chance for Victoria Zhilinskayte to put

:33:06.:33:11.

Russia two goals to the good. Katrine Lunde has been brought into

:33:12.:33:15.

the goal and she says it! What a good start that was, going down to

:33:16.:33:19.

your left, right in the bottom corner. She makes the save. The

:33:20.:33:25.

third save from three penalties for Katrine Lunde. I wouldn't want to be

:33:26.:33:36.

in the changing room with the coach after that but she is not the only

:33:37.:33:44.

one, the others also Mr penalties. Norway are down to six players but

:33:45.:33:48.

they are on the attacker may have the chance to pull level. Not quite

:33:49.:33:57.

enough room for Amanda Kurtovic. That is a penalty and a two-minute

:33:58.:34:07.

suspension. A two-minute suspension. Standing behind on Heidi Loke and

:34:08.:34:12.

Heidi Loke turns and from then on she was in trouble because she was

:34:13.:34:18.

not letting go. Nora Mork was as ever the provider. It must be a

:34:19.:34:23.

staggering statistic about how many passes she has made. Veronica

:34:24.:34:27.

Kristiansen Krauthammer hammers it away. No mistake there, and Norway

:34:28.:34:32.

are level ten minutes into the second half. She thought it was

:34:33.:34:37.

going low and it went over the shoulder. A great reaction from

:34:38.:34:48.

Veronica Kristiansen. Her first seven metre throw and it is another

:34:49.:34:52.

good save but the whistle has gone. Two minutes here and it is going to

:34:53.:35:01.

be for Ida Alstad for pushing Dmitri Ava. It was just on these small of

:35:02.:35:09.

the back. You just wonder why they do it. In a way it is almost, I

:35:10.:35:18.

couldn't resist it, she is in the air and you know it will be a

:35:19.:35:22.

two-minute suspension and a penalty but don't count your chickens yet

:35:23.:35:29.

but Katrine Lunde has saved all of the penalties so far. It is

:35:30.:35:32.

Vyakhireva who was going to take this one. Oh! I thought she had her

:35:33.:35:38.

hands on in there. It still goes into the roof of the net. The goal

:35:39.:35:45.

score by Vyakhireva. 22-23 to Russia. She launched herself and she

:35:46.:35:51.

just got her fingers on it. The relief of Vyakhireva palpable

:35:52.:35:53.

because she missed the last one and missing two been unthinkable. Russia

:35:54.:35:59.

are one player short and Norway have a double suspension. They have been

:36:00.:36:02.

coming thick and fast here with the Slovenian referees. Nora Mork to

:36:03.:36:08.

Veronica Kristiansen. She should have gone around the block -- Matt

:36:09.:36:17.

Wing. They put the block on. Russia break, and it's a breathless spell

:36:18.:36:22.

here, end to end. The Norwegians have one of their suspended players

:36:23.:36:27.

back now. Kari Aalvik Grimsbo had gone off and only just made it back

:36:28.:36:31.

into the goal by the time the Russians arrived. Married mum

:36:32.:36:40.

flat-footed delayed coming back on but the Russians saw her on with a

:36:41.:36:45.

bit of shouting from the bench. A free throw for Vyakhireva. A foul by

:36:46.:36:53.

Veronica Kristiansen. Vyakhireva is so industrious. That is clever. She

:36:54.:37:05.

finds her sister on the far side and nothing doing there. It is a passive

:37:06.:37:09.

play call now. That might have been the second and given the first pass.

:37:10.:37:14.

You are only allowed six after of the arm goes up. That was a foul

:37:15.:37:19.

which takes out the Russian and also a team-mate. The domino effect.

:37:20.:37:35.

Right in the corner! That was not even a particularly quick short, it

:37:36.:37:44.

was just very well-placed. Fired him by Dario Dmitri Ava, not even a real

:37:45.:37:50.

gap appearing in front of her but she just positioned perfectly and

:37:51.:37:54.

both sides are now back up to seven players. There comes Heidi Loke back

:37:55.:38:01.

onto the court as Norway trying come forward and they are two goals down

:38:02.:38:11.

again. Oh, that is saved. A very good save again, that combination of

:38:12.:38:16.

Nora Mork to Heidi Loke. She it away again. She is waiting to plug the

:38:17.:38:21.

gap and the Russians on weight -- waiting. Vyakhireva but an equally

:38:22.:38:27.

fine save. A throw taken and it was an excellent reaction. Things settle

:38:28.:38:34.

down. 13 minutes played in the second half. Norway keep wrestling

:38:35.:38:38.

themselves back to level an Russia find a couple of goals and extend

:38:39.:38:45.

the margin again. Norway have not recently managed to get back in

:38:46.:38:51.

front. Heidi Loke shoots and schools. Norway are back within a

:38:52.:38:55.

goal. That is the strength that Heidi Loke has, turning on the edge

:38:56.:39:00.

of the six metre and she grabs it with her left and no matter what

:39:01.:39:05.

Dmitriyeva tries to do she was strong enough to turn and pop it

:39:06.:39:11.

underneath Victoria Kalinina. 23-24, Russia lead. Bliss in overcoming

:39:12.:39:23.

end. That was meant for the line. -- Irina Bliznova. There was always one

:39:24.:39:31.

player waiting at the back just in case and it was Veronica Kristiansen

:39:32.:39:35.

there. Nora Mork says they should get themselves organised again so

:39:36.:39:39.

they take their time and back into the medal and Victoria Kristiansen,

:39:40.:39:47.

who is increasingly used as a centre but was left back in the World

:39:48.:39:52.

Championships last year, and that is a penalty. Heidi Loke is starting to

:39:53.:39:55.

find the space at the back and maybe the defence is getting a bit tired

:39:56.:40:00.

as the game goes on. It is hard work forging backwards and trying to

:40:01.:40:04.

cover the line and up and Ekaterina Ilina wrestles her from behind,

:40:05.:40:11.

pulling on the shirt all the way. It is a two-minute suspension for

:40:12.:40:16.

Ekaterina Ilina on the back of this file. She is on the bench. Saved!

:40:17.:40:36.

She lifts her leg one way and she was trying to put it down next to

:40:37.:40:43.

the standing leg but she gets it instead. That was Norway chance to

:40:44.:40:49.

get back on level terms. Six points from eight penalties and only one

:40:50.:40:53.

from four. That was or was going to be bundled over there. Bobrovnikova

:40:54.:41:00.

by a series of players. A little bit of pain. He is well you might be

:41:01.:41:06.

after having been thrown around. She took an elbow in the face as she

:41:07.:41:11.

came through the second time. She really has been in the wars, poor

:41:12.:41:15.

old Bobrovnikova, being manhandled all the way by the defence, and the

:41:16.:41:20.

Russians have been defending so hard. That is a good save. A chance

:41:21.:41:25.

now on the right wing. She was three and they missed it. The Norwegians

:41:26.:41:29.

are becoming a little bit too cautious now. Maybe worried about

:41:30.:41:33.

the speed at which the Russians are falling back. So far so good but

:41:34.:41:40.

they are not winning the ball up quick enough. There was acres of

:41:41.:41:45.

space and she tried to sprint away. Nora Mork scores. Norway are back

:41:46.:41:51.

level with 24-24 and 40 minutes to go and we're into the final quarter

:41:52.:41:59.

of this semifinal. A tenth goal coming in there for Nora Mork, what

:42:00.:42:07.

a game. A reaction on the bench from Camilla Herrem. What a trooper she

:42:08.:42:13.

is! She races off and married mum front foot is back in defence. They

:42:14.:42:19.

are holding up the centre of the defence. Russia are now back at full

:42:20.:42:27.

strength. They two-minute suspension ends.

:42:28.:42:39.

Steamboat a lot of dollars depending on the far side and she left the

:42:40.:42:44.

door open, she was nowhere near the winger. The Russians haven't moved

:42:45.:42:48.

the ball into the wing too often but that was a true gift. Look how far

:42:49.:42:50.

out the defender is. Russia take the one goal advantage

:42:51.:43:02.

again and you feel this is going to go down to one goal in about 13

:43:03.:43:07.

minutes time. It is going to be fascinating because neither of these

:43:08.:43:14.

sides can really break away. Nora Mork lays it in and it to MLA. Two

:43:15.:43:26.

players on the line. Victoria Kalinina hurtles out of our goal to

:43:27.:43:29.

close down the angle and now Russia have the chance to go two goals up.

:43:30.:43:35.

Irina Bliznova finds the back of the net. It all started from that really

:43:36.:43:41.

good save from Victoria Kalinina. The Russians are certainly moving

:43:42.:43:47.

the ball up neatly in attack. This is the new Russian style and it's

:43:48.:43:50.

working very well indeed at countering the Norwegians here. Nora

:43:51.:43:58.

Mork has a two-minute suspension. I personally didn't quite spot what it

:43:59.:44:02.

was for but she is sat at the side of the court. She was obviously the

:44:03.:44:11.

player that put the shelf on Irina Bliznova. It is not her. It must've

:44:12.:44:18.

been an earlier incident at the Slovenians spotted and saved it to

:44:19.:44:22.

let the Russians have the play advantage. Meanwhile the brief

:44:23.:44:28.

experiment of bringing Emilie Hegh Arntzen into the attack has barely

:44:29.:44:33.

lasted two minutes as Veronica Kristiansen resumes now. That is an

:44:34.:44:39.

attacking foul, is it? No. Irina Bliznova indicates that she thinks

:44:40.:44:44.

it should have been. They have a free throw and while they are

:44:45.:44:46.

short-handed they've taken at the goalkeeper. Here is Victoria

:44:47.:44:48.

Kalinina. Norway resumed the attack. Victoria

:44:49.:45:11.

Kristiansen looks for the line. This time it is well covered by Petrova.

:45:12.:45:16.

Passive play being warned by the referee. Six blouses, they don't

:45:17.:45:21.

wait that long. The Norwegians are back quickly because Victoria

:45:22.:45:25.

Kalinina was looking for a long pass which wasn't there. She has tried to

:45:26.:45:28.

catch the Norwegians. Go straight to the wing and Kuznetsova again!

:45:29.:45:38.

Terrific performance by her, four from four for the Russian winger.

:45:39.:45:48.

Norway now trail by three. A pensive face from Grimsbo, the

:45:49.:46:52.

keeper for Norway. Her side are three goals down. As it stands,

:46:53.:46:57.

Russia would go through to the Olympic final, but we still have 11

:46:58.:47:01.

minutes remaining and a lot of handball to be played.

:47:02.:47:13.

It is not the well oiled machine we are used to from Norway. The Russian

:47:14.:47:19.

defence must take a huge amount of credit for that. They have put them

:47:20.:47:24.

under a lot of pressure. The two Norwegians got in each other's way.

:47:25.:47:38.

It was Sudakova. Again, a weak effort. Either way, the result is

:47:39.:47:49.

the right one for the Norwegians to get the ball back. If they can get a

:47:50.:47:55.

few long-range efforts, it might pull the defence out. Heidi Loke has

:47:56.:48:11.

done her job. Another goal for Veronica Kristiansen, making her

:48:12.:48:15.

Olympic debut. She was part of the World Cup team in 2013 and 2015, or

:48:16.:48:20.

World Championship team, I should say. This is a chance for Norway to

:48:21.:48:31.

come back. Grimsbo with the stop. That should have gone in. That was a

:48:32.:48:36.

decent angle as well. Dmitriyeva was beaten. It was more of a mess than a

:48:37.:48:39.

save, but Grimsbo will get it. Two minute suspension for

:48:40.:49:00.

Dmitriyeva. Russia will be down to six players for the next two

:49:01.:49:06.

minutes. You can see the file again here. She is going to have to watch

:49:07.:49:12.

herself, it is the second suspension for the number seven. Iloka got

:49:13.:49:15.

ahead of her. She lunges desperately and pulls her down -- Heidi Loke got

:49:16.:49:18.

ahead. Through the legs of the keeper! Some

:49:19.:49:43.

relief for Thorir Hergeirsson. The goalkeeper pulled a long way out,

:49:44.:49:47.

and then she drops it under the 26-year-old. The Russians come back

:49:48.:49:53.

short-handed. The winners are so quick in the

:49:54.:50:14.

middle. In fairness, the Norwegian defence is quick. But still, there

:50:15.:50:21.

have been so many opportunities and they are still not bawling -- moving

:50:22.:50:30.

the ball out of the wing. It is a weak shot. Now Norway have the

:50:31.:50:33.

chance to try and draw themselves level. Mork dives in and scores! A

:50:34.:50:45.

great goal by Mork but what a great reaction by Oftedal, who nearly gave

:50:46.:50:51.

away an attacking foul but somehow managed to spin off the defender,

:50:52.:50:57.

drives up and makes the pass. It is all square again. So just as it

:50:58.:51:01.

looked like it might be slipping away from Norway, they were three

:51:02.:51:05.

goals down a couple of moments ago, they have managed to bring it back

:51:06.:51:10.

to 27-27. Now the atmosphere is really starting to rise because we

:51:11.:51:14.

have just over seven minutes to go in this Olympic semifinal. Time-out

:51:15.:51:24.

called, Russia with one second before they are back up to full

:51:25.:51:29.

strength. Russia have called the team time-out, Trefilov possibly a

:51:30.:51:31.

little less calm now. The body language to me suggested,

:51:32.:52:17.

thick and calm down. Absolutely, long attack. Don't rush it. Time is

:52:18.:52:23.

on our side. The Russians are now feeling on the back foot. They have

:52:24.:52:27.

surrendered the lead. Trefilov was remarkably restrained in that team

:52:28.:52:31.

time-out, maybe realising that sometimes, you have two not sound

:52:32.:52:35.

like you are in a panicked state yourself. Ilina has now come into

:52:36.:52:43.

the frame. She is a quick player with a good eye for the line.

:52:44.:52:51.

Bobrovnikova has been battered black and blue in this match. The

:52:52.:53:00.

Norwegians are coming back very quickly.

:53:01.:53:20.

Dmitri Ava lunges on to luck, off the post and it has calf again --

:53:21.:53:25.

Dmitri Ava. Fouled by all started. And the cry

:53:26.:53:43.

is coming from Trefilov. When you are commentating with the headphones

:53:44.:53:47.

on, you can't quite hear him, but I have watched some of the games

:53:48.:53:51.

Russia have played in the general seats here, and he is such an

:53:52.:53:55.

interesting person to watch on the wing. What a good save that was. I

:53:56.:54:00.

think Grimsbo got a touch on to that and piloted it around the post.

:54:01.:54:31.

Norway are missing the right back who was injured just before coming

:54:32.:54:36.

out here, double gold medal winner with them. It would have given them

:54:37.:54:40.

more options, because they are not changing players at the back at the

:54:41.:54:44.

moment as we see this incident again. The Russians are hoping for

:54:45.:54:49.

an attacking foul, but it's not. These three players have done a huge

:54:50.:54:55.

workload for Norway. And this is a towering match at the pace it is

:54:56.:54:58.

played. We go into the last five minutes. Tipped over the bar by

:54:59.:55:04.

Kalinina, the 27-year-old keeper reacting well to Kristiansen. That

:55:05.:55:14.

was really good because I think it got a deflection on the way through

:55:15.:55:21.

from Dmitriyeva. Just kissing the fingers! Russia are desperate to

:55:22.:55:36.

extend their lead. Penalty given. Once again, it was Bobrovnikova

:55:37.:55:40.

trying to drive in an almost score a neat over the head flick. But it

:55:41.:55:48.

looked as though Norway got intercepted. Now a chance for Russia

:55:49.:55:54.

to extend their lead. On comes the specialist, Katrine Lunde, who has

:55:55.:55:59.

had such a good performance in goal so far. Oh, missed another one! They

:56:00.:56:12.

are going to look back on this at how many penalties they have missed.

:56:13.:56:22.

If this comes down to the wire, some of the players will be in for a bit

:56:23.:56:25.

of an inquest over their penalty shooting. Maybe a few extra hours of

:56:26.:56:29.

practice in the early hours of tomorrow morning with Trefilov. They

:56:30.:56:34.

have missed four of their five efforts.

:56:35.:56:47.

Mork was fouled by Petra. -- Petrova.

:56:48.:56:57.

The Russians are defending really strongly. And it is fired in by

:56:58.:57:06.

Kurtovic! The Norwegian fans are on their feet, ringing the bells,

:57:07.:57:10.

because their side have pulled level.

:57:11.:57:17.

Three minutes to go. You could see the reaction on the far side. Yes!

:57:18.:57:36.

And again, they edged back in front, Petrova.

:57:37.:57:51.

It feels like the pace of the game has dropped. Whether that is nerves

:57:52.:57:58.

or fatigue. There must be a certain amount of fatigue. That is going to

:57:59.:58:05.

be a penalty. He can't give her the goal. Again, it looked like an

:58:06.:58:21.

attacking foul. Oftedal goes on into Dmitriyeva and that has to be a

:58:22.:58:29.

penalty. Kalinina stays in. She has saved one from three so far. Nora

:58:30.:58:38.

Mork comes up. Fires at low into the bottom left, and Norway are level

:58:39.:58:47.

once more. 29-29. Nerves of steel at that point of the game, because with

:58:48.:58:51.

two minutes to go, every chance missed now feels like it could be

:58:52.:58:55.

the telling moment. Team time-out called by Russia, the last one of

:58:56.:59:01.

the game. Trefilov, as he does sometimes, walks a long way on court

:59:02.:59:02.

to do it. Look how long some of these players

:59:03.:59:42.

hang in the air before they go to shoot. That was Sanna Solberg,

:59:43.:59:48.

getting herself off the mark. And the legs of Kalinina. Her ninth goal

:59:49.:59:57.

of the tournament. Great shots, these. It shows to what extent it is

a cat and mouse game. 100 seconds to go in the Olympic semifinal, in

:00:07.:00:13.

normal time, anyway. It is 29-29. Russia, 30! Russia are first to take

:00:14.:00:22.

the advantage. In this scenario, they have got the advantage because

:00:23.:00:26.

they are always the one going a goal ahead, and it is Norway who are

:00:27.:00:39.

having to try and pull back level. If it is tied at the end of normal

:00:40.:00:43.

time, it will be extra time for these teams, and that is what the

:00:44.:00:49.

Norwegians are going for. No requirement on the keeper to pass

:00:50.:00:54.

the ball back out. Mork has to fetch it. She is the top scorer in the

:00:55.:01:00.

competition so far. Now the Norwegians decide to use their last

:01:01.:01:05.

team time-out, with 51 seconds remaining to pull this game back and

:01:06.:01:10.

take it to extra time and keep alive their dream of three consecutive

:01:11.:01:12.

golds at the Olympic Games. So that is the aim for Norway, not

:01:13.:01:49.

to get a quick goal and win the match in normal time, just try and

:01:50.:01:53.

equalise. 51 seconds, I doubt they will get that log. The problem for

:01:54.:01:57.

them is that they know they have two score off this one. If they fail

:01:58.:02:03.

with this, the Russians will play it along. They probably have to do

:02:04.:02:12.

individual marking if they fail. Inside the goal, unbelievable

:02:13.:02:15.

scenes! The fans can't believe it either. Kurtovic the score, but

:02:16.:02:23.

still a chance for Russia. This is it, 30 goals apiece. If Russia can

:02:24.:02:27.

score at the end of this match, they are going through to the Olympic

:02:28.:02:32.

final. And it is saved, but the penalty is given. Penalty given for

:02:33.:02:36.

the foul on my Petrova after Grimsbo made a great stop. And we have 18

:02:37.:02:45.

seconds left on the clock. They did so well to find the ball into

:02:46.:02:48.

Petrova. Now Norway will try and get forward

:02:49.:03:19.

as quickly as possible. They have ten seconds to go! Norway have

:03:20.:03:28.

levelled it with five seconds left! Are we going to extra time? The shot

:03:29.:03:40.

goes wide and yes, we are! Heidi Loke has come into the game in the

:03:41.:03:44.

second half and has saved the match for Norway.

:03:45.:03:55.

DAN WALKER: I am so sorry to tell you that we cannot stay any longer

:03:56.:03:59.

on air on BBC Four. We are going to have to leave it there. I would love

:04:00.:04:04.

to keep watching this with you. You can go onto the Red Button. The game

:04:05.:04:08.

will continue there to see if Norway or Russia can make it through to the

:04:09.:04:12.

gold medal match. What drama at the end. Russia get the penalty, Norway

:04:13.:04:16.

go straight down the other end. They have only got 20 seconds, and they

:04:17.:04:20.

get the equaliser to take it into ten minutes of extra time, which

:04:21.:04:24.

will be on the Red Button. Whatever cable or Freeview you have got, you

:04:25.:04:29.

can get the Red Button. It is on the website. And in case you can't stay

:04:30.:04:34.

up, we will show you the extra time periods tomorrow on BBC Four. Sorry

:04:35.:04:39.

to leave it there, but two o'clock is our call off time. Thank you for

:04:40.:04:44.

watching. Thank you for all your texts and tweets this evening. Two

:04:45.:04:47.

more nights on BBC Four. We leave you with the image of the day. It

:04:48.:04:53.

happened behind us here. Two words, Brownlee brothers. Good night.
