Welcome back to the evening action, your time, afternoon in Rio. We will

:00:48.:01:00.

be showing you diving, the final of the women's ten-metre platform,

:01:01.:01:02.

Tonia Couch in it for Britain. At 9pm, Jade Jones in the semifinal of

:01:03.:01:07.

the tae kwon do, trying to win through to the gold medal about.

:01:08.:01:09.

Here are the headlines on day 13. Alistair Brownlee led home his

:01:10.:01:21.

brother Jonny for a British 1-2 in the triathlon, it makes Alistair the

:01:22.:01:24.

first man to retain the title and the first brothers to win gold and

:01:25.:01:31.

silver in the same event since 1960. After being frustrated by the

:01:32.:01:35.

weather yesterday, Hannah Mills and Saskia Clark were finally allowed to

:01:36.:01:40.

celebrate their gold medal in sailing's 470 women's class. It was

:01:41.:01:46.

confirmed in the medal raises, Team GB's 21st gold medal of these Games.

:01:47.:01:53.

And there was a very exciting silver medal for Liam Heath and Jon

:01:54.:01:56.

Schofield in the Canoe Spring K2 200 metres, they got the nod on photo

:01:57.:02:01.

finish to upgrade the bronze they won in London four years ago. And

:02:02.:02:07.

Marcus Ellis and Chris Langridge earned Britain a first Olympic

:02:08.:02:10.

badminton medal for 12 years by winning their bronze medal play-off

:02:11.:02:18.

match in the men's doubles. So this is how we are planning

:02:19.:02:19.

match in the men's doubles. So this is how we are planning to bring you

:02:20.:02:23.

the action. We will be livening with the women's ten-metre platform

:02:24.:02:27.

shortly, and I'm hoping from the example of Jack Laugher from

:02:28.:02:31.

qualifying anywhere, you can get into the final and anything can

:02:32.:02:36.

happen. Jade Jones was the youngest gold-medallist in London, she

:02:37.:02:39.

defends her title next. We hope to be talking to guests include Joshua

:02:40.:02:45.

Buatsi, who took bronze medal in boxing and Marcus Ellis and Chris

:02:46.:02:49.

Langridge, who won bonds today in badminton. We'll be live at 9:40pm

:02:50.:02:55.

for the last half or quarter three and four of the men's gold medal

:02:56.:03:00.

match, Belgium against Argentina, and from 11:30pm onwards, 10:30pm

:03:01.:03:05.

onwards, sorry, there will be an Olympic round-up of anything you may

:03:06.:03:10.

have missed. But live action of course always takes precedence, and

:03:11.:03:13.

high up in the stadium at the diving is Helen Skelton, almost on a level

:03:14.:03:18.

with the ten-metre platform. Yes, but thankfully I don't have to

:03:19.:03:22.

jump from this platform headfirst, upside down, which is exactly what

:03:23.:03:26.

Brin's Tonia Couch has just done. Due joiners for the finals of the

:03:27.:03:30.

women's ten-metre individual platform and Tonia Couch has just

:03:31.:03:34.

done her first dive. She will be very happy with it. This was the

:03:35.:03:38.

dive this morning that did not go so well in the semifinals, but she

:03:39.:03:41.

managed to pull it off beautifully today. This morning, she went to

:03:42.:03:46.

close to the edge but look at that, she will be very happy with that and

:03:47.:03:50.

she racked up a good score, her coach was impressed, so it gets

:03:51.:03:55.

Tonia off to a good start. She picked up 64.5 points, so five

:03:56.:04:01.

rounds of diving, the harder the dives, the more points the divers

:04:02.:04:05.

will accumulate, and Tonia does have to be consistent if she wants to get

:04:06.:04:11.

herself on the podium this evening. Well, Bob Ballard, Leon Taylor will

:04:12.:04:20.

join you for the rest of round one. This is a huge dive to open up with

:04:21.:04:24.

and she's absolutely nailed the finish. Wow, 8.5s across-the-board,

:04:25.:04:31.

hello, 81 points. For those who have just joined us on BBC One, this is

:04:32.:04:38.

the fourth dive of round one, Meaghan Benfeito, the first dive as

:04:39.:04:44.

in the preliminaries. It did not go so well for her in the semifinal but

:04:45.:04:49.

in the prelim, 81, and in the final, 81, and she is amongst those who

:04:50.:04:55.

become testing for third place. Now to Minami Itahashi of Japan, the

:04:56.:05:05.

inward three and a half, with took. -- tuck. I don't know how to

:05:06.:05:09.

describe the power of this young Japanese, she's only four and she

:05:10.:05:14.

looks as though she had springs on her feet. She does almost double

:05:15.:05:19.

board level and has to come out of the dive with her toes pointing up

:05:20.:05:24.

to the sky in order to make the control. Impressive stuff. She

:05:25.:05:27.

doesn't quite get the clean rip entry that she will be looking for

:05:28.:05:34.

but my word, it's good. It's very good at the moment, it puts her into

:05:35.:05:39.

second place. The stakes have risen and been raised from today, earlier

:05:40.:05:44.

on, when in different first two rounds -- there were indifferent

:05:45.:05:49.

rounds from many of the divers. 7.6 for the 16-year-old from Japan, we

:05:50.:05:53.

have seen one Canadian already, a good start from Meaghan Benfeito and

:05:54.:06:00.

Roseline Filion can follow suit, inward to one half somersaults,

:06:01.:06:02.

lowest degree of difficulty we will see in round one. A super-clean

:06:03.:06:09.

entry, fractionally overrode freighted. -- over rotated. It

:06:10.:06:16.

looked like she went after it a bit, she misses the diving board but just

:06:17.:06:20.

can't quite stop the dive over rotating but because she disappeared

:06:21.:06:26.

into the water, less, not enough splash to fill a teacup as we often

:06:27.:06:31.

say. Look at those marks, even with the over rotation. It's the last

:06:32.:06:36.

thing they see, it off influences what they give and 71.40 for the

:06:37.:06:44.

Canadian, we have a class field here who are giving is class dives

:06:45.:06:48.

earlier on. Ram two is where it went wobbly. That was due to the weather

:06:49.:06:52.

conditions we had earlier on, the sun slightly askew on the board. It

:06:53.:06:59.

gave you half light as you came down. Onto Pandelela Rinong, the

:07:00.:07:07.

bronze-medallist from London four years ago. Forward three and a half.

:07:08.:07:16.

Well, it's good and normally I'm more more more impressed by this

:07:17.:07:20.

young lady's finishes. The finishing of the dive is so important. That's

:07:21.:07:25.

where the lion's share of the marks are. Take off is spot on, her pike

:07:26.:07:31.

shape is unbelievable, her forehead is in line with her ankles, I didn't

:07:32.:07:35.

know that was anatomically possible! She has open hamstrings which allows

:07:36.:07:39.

her to get deeper to that pike shape, not quite keeping the

:07:40.:07:47.

splashdown. Enough for more than yes. Eight to come. Eight to come,

:07:48.:07:52.

72 is more than respectable for Pandelela. 81.6 is the leading score

:07:53.:08:05.

so far from Meaghan Benfeito. Kim, the older Kim, not the world

:08:06.:08:09.

champion Kim, big Kim, with her forward three and a half. It's good

:08:10.:08:17.

game from Kim. She had a bit of a shoddy rudimentary effort. She just

:08:18.:08:22.

scraped into the semifinal in last position, in 18th, and then she

:08:23.:08:28.

comes out all guns blazing and she was making a play for the front from

:08:29.:08:34.

start number one in the semifinals. Here she is opening up her campaign,

:08:35.:08:41.

marginally over rotated. So she won't be overtaking some of the

:08:42.:08:45.

front runners. No, but she is in there with a 17, so we've had 73 72,

:08:46.:08:54.

71, a 70 now. Tonia Couch, 64.5 was better than she did this morning.

:08:55.:08:59.

She is eighth of eight starters so far. Now some people reckon this is

:09:00.:09:03.

going to be the bronze-medallist today, some people say she's diving

:09:04.:09:05.

exceptionally well, consistently well. Who are these some people you

:09:06.:09:12.

talk of mysteriously? Here is Melissa Wu, we know who she is. She

:09:13.:09:18.

is Bob's bet for a medal and I will say, oh, there are just some people

:09:19.:09:23.

who, I don't know if they are made up people whether they are real

:09:24.:09:27.

people, you have to take that up with my co-commentator. Melissa Wu,

:09:28.:09:31.

fourth in London, fourth all day today, fourth in the prelims, fourth

:09:32.:09:37.

in the semifinals, will it be better than forth today? She has to come

:09:38.:09:41.

out of the jungle all guns blazing and see if that is good enough. To

:09:42.:09:47.

put her up there in the front bench. It's OK, that's good, 73.5. It puts

:09:48.:09:54.

her into third place. Are you saying I'm a fantasist? I'm talking about

:09:55.:09:58.

people who know this sport inside out. You just referred to them as

:09:59.:10:03.

some people! Name your sources! I will when we get closer to the

:10:04.:10:09.

winning line. The first of the two Chinese, Ren Qian. Yes, so just 15

:10:10.:10:15.

years old. Wasn't even born when the Sydney Olympic Games were on, and

:10:16.:10:19.

here she is opening up her campaign with an exceptional dive. Just a tad

:10:20.:10:27.

short of vertical. Other than that it is bang on. I think it's worth a

:10:28.:10:32.

nine. There's hardly anything of her, when she stands up on the

:10:33.:10:36.

platform next to the railings you can only just see her, she is that

:10:37.:10:39.

lean. That helps when you get into the water. No splash equals good

:10:40.:10:47.

marks, and there they are. Not quite as good as Meaghan Benfeito but not

:10:48.:10:59.

too far shy. 81 point six -- 81.64 Meaghan Benfeito. First place

:11:00.:11:02.

probably will go to a Chinese, we will see the second of them shortly.

:11:03.:11:08.

The most impressive of the rest has been Jessica Parratto of the USA,

:11:09.:11:12.

and she will open like many others with a forward three and a half.

:11:13.:11:17.

There is talk that she at the Olympic trials was a similar

:11:18.:11:21.

position. She qualified in top place and had a bit of a wobble in the

:11:22.:11:27.

final. She has been exemplary, she being Jessica Parratto, all the way

:11:28.:11:31.

through. I love her style of diving. She's 22 years old and she is my tip

:11:32.:11:36.

for mixing it up in the bronze. But time will tell. That's the first

:11:37.:11:40.

dive, bang on the money, and she will be right up there on Ren Qian's

:11:41.:11:46.

shoulder, if not in front. So now you know Leon Taylor is not some

:11:47.:11:49.

people because it's not him I was talking to. OK! Oh, I see, that's

:11:50.:11:59.

very cryptic, Bob! We won't get -- I can get more obtuse than that. I'm

:12:00.:12:04.

sure you can! We move onto the other Chinese, the one who would surely be

:12:05.:12:08.

the favourite in the basis of what she did in the prelims, Best, semis,

:12:09.:12:16.

Best, forward three and a half. Oh, she has opened up there with a

:12:17.:12:19.

beautiful dive, following on Jessica's forward three and a half

:12:20.:12:26.

in the pike position. Her entry is not quite as good, Si Yajie, so it

:12:27.:12:30.

shouldn't get as many marks, because the height is incredible. The entry

:12:31.:12:35.

isn't quite as clean as the American just before her, but 17 years old.

:12:36.:12:43.

And Chinese. She has been the one to keep up with, hasn't she, through

:12:44.:12:49.

prelims and semifinal. It would be a travesty if she can't hold form and

:12:50.:12:53.

really go for this gold. There are your marks, exactly the same as we

:12:54.:13:01.

saw for Jessica Parratto, 81, so there's nothing to choose between

:13:02.:13:04.

one and joint second at the moment. The first round done and dusted.

:13:05.:13:13.

Four more to go. Some bigger tariff dives, 3.3s, 3.4s still to come.

:13:14.:13:18.

That's how it looks after the first round. Canada in front as was the

:13:19.:13:22.

case in the prelims. Jessica Parratto in second with Si Yajie and

:13:23.:13:32.

Ren Qian in fourth. Where is Tonia? On the second page at the bottom,

:13:33.:13:35.

but a considerable improvement on this morning's dive. She has made a

:13:36.:13:43.

18 or 19 points. It's probably the weakest in the programme, her

:13:44.:13:46.

forward? Yes, as I mentioned when she opened up with it, it's the dive

:13:47.:13:50.

that's been causing her the most difficulty and she has got it out of

:13:51.:13:53.

the way now. She's at the bottom of the pack and it's time to get her

:13:54.:13:58.

comeback on. It's almost like putting your rucksack down. You feel

:13:59.:14:01.

lighter, it's out of the way, you can get going. So many bits of

:14:02.:14:18.

transport are unbelievable. # commentator's problems. No son in

:14:19.:14:21.

the commentary box, I'm pleased to say. It's gone home, yes.

:14:22.:14:30.

Paola Espinosa of Mexico. She will do the 3.4 later, but this is 3.3.

:14:31.:14:38.

Three and a half somersaults. Somebody who can challenge, one of

:14:39.:14:42.

the most experienced divers in the field. Yes, super experienced.

:14:43.:14:54.

Almost defying Isaac Newton, gravity doesn't seem to affect her, she

:14:55.:14:57.

jumps through the roof, if there was one. Jumping up towards the sky,

:14:58.:15:04.

turning into a bit of a banana when she enters the water, that will be

:15:05.:15:09.

costly. If she could keep a bit more tension she could have pulled around

:15:10.:15:16.

the dive. Banana woman. If you are playing diving bingo at home I think

:15:17.:15:28.

you have just had your first caller. To get 24 spaces filled. Onto the

:15:29.:15:38.

younger of the two Malaysians, in which friend a half somersaults,

:15:39.:15:53.

Sabri. 3.2, for the Malaysians. She pops up into that, almost like

:15:54.:15:57.

shaking the bottle of fizzy drink and opening the top, she explodes

:15:58.:16:02.

off the diving board, she has no issues, making the dive very easily.

:16:03.:16:07.

Look how easily she finishes, where they half, four and a half metres

:16:08.:16:14.

drop. Not quite keeping the splash down, so eight is good, maybe. If

:16:15.:16:19.

she stayed with it she would have got more than that. Always a big

:16:20.:16:25.

smile from her and her coach as well as she goes round the deck. Now,

:16:26.:16:29.

Tonia Couch. In the five dives, there has to be

:16:30.:16:45.

one arm stand. I don't think we will see her kissing the platform, I

:16:46.:16:49.

think those have gone, from the semifinal. Arms down, back, double

:16:50.:17:01.

somersault, one and a half twists. It's a beautiful dive from Tonia

:17:02.:17:07.

Couch, all the way into the water. In the preliminaries she buried it,

:17:08.:17:12.

no splash at all. This time the aerial work was fantastic and she

:17:13.:17:18.

doesn't quite get the entry. The rip entry is a splash less entry. She

:17:19.:17:24.

has worked hard but she can't quite stop that dive from moving over

:17:25.:17:27.

vertical and therefore her heels caused the splash to splash out. She

:17:28.:17:46.

did 65.6 earlier. That is an improvement but not a considerable

:17:47.:17:55.

one, sadly. Onto the early leader, Meaghan Benfeito. Ooh that's

:17:56.:18:03.

tremendous, isn't it. A gave of tactics, the first dive was 3.2.

:18:04.:18:09.

Putting a big score on the board and using the dive that the other

:18:10.:18:13.

athletes decided to open with in the second round, 3.0, and she

:18:14.:18:24.

absolutely drills it. Wow. I didn't see it coming, did you? No. 78.

:18:25.:18:32.

Meaghan has been slightly off. She has been back to the village to have

:18:33.:18:43.

her Scoobie Snacks, that's for sure. Gold and silver may go to China, we

:18:44.:18:49.

are presuming that will happen. Predict rather than presume. Another

:18:50.:18:54.

medal, which may belong to Meaghan Benfeito. It may belong to the mini

:18:55.:18:57.

money are this is such a tricky dive. 3.0

:18:58.:19:12.

degrees of difficulty but I think it is actually more difficult than

:19:13.:19:17.

that, he skips off the diving board, a trapdoor take-off. She is only

:19:18.:19:23.

4-footed 11 so she has to come out of it really early and she doesn't

:19:24.:19:30.

quite pull it off. Shorter vertical. She's enjoying herself. When the

:19:31.:19:36.

dive has gone, it has gone. That's a shame for her. Not going to get the

:19:37.:19:41.

response from the judges that she was looking for. That's probably

:19:42.:19:51.

about right. 6.5s across-the-board. The scores of malt applied by the

:19:52.:19:55.

degree of difficulty. We have seen one Canadian going difficulty, top

:19:56.:19:58.

of the leaderboard two multiplied. This is the highest degree of

:19:59.:20:22.

difficulty in her list. What a dive. They have brought their a game. They

:20:23.:20:29.

are here in force and this is a huge dive. This will get over 80 points

:20:30.:20:37.

and quite right too. Wow. Out of first gear and up into high speed.

:20:38.:20:42.

What a competition we are seeing. No indications of anything like this

:20:43.:20:47.

earlier in the day and suddenly, they flicked a switch and off

:20:48.:20:53.

they've gone. Rosalind Philly, the biggest mark we've seen in the

:20:54.:21:01.

competition so far -- Rosalind Philly on -- Roseline Filion.

:21:02.:21:08.

She has a bit of ground to make up here. Only 2.9, the degree of

:21:09.:21:21.

difficulty. She has really flunked the end of the dive, hasn't she?

:21:22.:21:26.

Very graceful, aesthetically pleasing is a lovely way of

:21:27.:21:30.

describing it, great shapes and very good technician but a huge error,

:21:31.:21:34.

coming out of the dive a fortnight too early. This will be costly. That

:21:35.:21:42.

could see the 23-year-old from Malaysia, the second of the

:21:43.:21:46.

Malaysians in the final falling away from the hot pace that has been set

:21:47.:21:49.

by some of the contenders in the contest. Bronze-medallist four years

:21:50.:21:55.

ago. Chances of replicating that are looking slim with that 53.65.

:21:56.:22:02.

Because everybody else is diving their proverbial socks or boots,

:22:03.:22:14.

whatever foot wear. The older Kim of North Korea. She doesn't want to be

:22:15.:22:20.

too close to the board, she was a bit close this morning. Safe

:22:21.:22:26.

distance from the diving board. I will call it if it is too close. She

:22:27.:22:34.

won't be penalised for that. Inward is so challenging, standing

:22:35.:22:37.

backwards and you have two spin forward. She has haired, which gives

:22:38.:22:40.

her the appearance of being closer than she is. -- she has hair. That

:22:41.:22:51.

is good from him. Super slow motion. They like to do that inwards to show

:22:52.:22:55.

how close. The judges don't get the replay. Safe dive from Jim. The

:22:56.:23:03.

standard that everybody else has said, that is quite low -- from Kim.

:23:04.:23:12.

That is 72. Into fourth place. Now, the arm stand from Melissa Wu. Arm

:23:13.:23:20.

stand back double somersault. One of the half twists, 3.2. Even at this

:23:21.:23:28.

stage, having to play catch up with the likes of Sabri and Meaghan

:23:29.:23:40.

Benfeito. So far those people are OK with their prediction. Melissa Wu

:23:41.:23:45.

coming out with a very good arm stand back double somersault, one

:23:46.:23:49.

and a half twists. Doesn't get a strong push off the diving board,

:23:50.:23:56.

not using her hands to get going, so it can throw out her control.

:23:57.:24:00.

Straight down, looks like washing powder underneath. She pulls the air

:24:01.:24:09.

down. Rolling down into the abyss. It isn't the abyss any more because

:24:10.:24:13.

the water is the correct colour. You need your washing machine looked at

:24:14.:24:21.

if it is doing that! 72, Melissa Wu. Moving onto Ren Qian of China. Three

:24:22.:24:28.

and a half with a track for the first of two Chinese we will see --

:24:29.:24:34.

a tuck. So classy all the way through. Top-notch diving from Ren

:24:35.:24:44.

Qian, but that is a marginal wash, over the vertical as she goes in.

:24:45.:24:48.

The rest of the dive was bang on the money. Safe distance from the diving

:24:49.:24:54.

board, nines coming her way, but not attend because she would have needed

:24:55.:25:00.

to be completely vertical. She is putting pressure on Jessica Parratto

:25:01.:25:03.

coming up next and also Si Yajie. Just going ahead, it

:25:04.:25:26.

is tied at the top. One person who wants to be there and hold onto what

:25:27.:25:35.

she has got, second place, Jessica Parratto of the USA. Ooh she is an!

:25:36.:25:42.

If any of her dives were going to go, it would have been this one --

:25:43.:25:56.

she is on. Wow. We have Canada against the USA for the bronze. Only

:25:57.:26:01.

into the second round, long way to go. Just under 80 points. The marks

:26:02.:26:09.

are astonishing. 84, 85. So many high marks. Jessica Dourado is in

:26:10.:26:21.

second place, couple of points behind, Meaghan Benfeito is just

:26:22.:26:32.

behind her and Roseline Filion is just behind her, almost like a conga

:26:33.:26:37.

line. Beautiful take-off and aerial work, just a fraction over rotating.

:26:38.:26:45.

Will she get nine like her team-mates or 8.5s? Depends how much

:26:46.:26:50.

the judges penalised her for the marginal over rotation. Beautiful

:26:51.:26:55.

diving, just a touch over, you can see. The judges don't get the slow

:26:56.:27:06.

motion, they call it as I do. Nines. No emergency yet for Si Yajie, she

:27:07.:27:11.

is very covered with at the top. I say comfortably. It isn't nailed on.

:27:12.:27:16.

You wouldn't want to call it because the gaps between the main

:27:17.:27:23.

protagonists are very tight indeed. So, where are we? It is China one

:27:24.:27:35.

and two the top five are separated by just ten points after the second

:27:36.:27:41.

round. Sabri in sixth. We will have to see if Tonia has made up some

:27:42.:27:51.

places. She has made up one so far. We've had some people asking why the

:27:52.:27:55.

judges don't get to see at least one replay, do you have any thoughts on

:27:56.:27:59.

whether they should and why it may affect the competition? It would be

:28:00.:28:05.

a long and drawn-out process, the judges are very experienced, used to

:28:06.:28:11.

judging the dive straightaway. Lie I don't agree with that proposal. --

:28:12.:28:20.

no I don't agree. We have seven judges, the two lowest and highest

:28:21.:28:24.

are taken away. The judges need to be a bit more responsible for taking

:28:25.:28:29.

away marks for divers who are dangerously close. That's my only

:28:30.:28:37.

gripe. Beautifully summarised, I thought. Some people saying that we

:28:38.:28:46.

see the replay is, why shouldn't they, but it would extend the

:28:47.:28:50.

competition for another hour and in the preliminaries, we would be here

:28:51.:28:53.

all day. The gymnastics judges don't get it. 3.4, the biggest dive we

:28:54.:29:02.

will see today, Espinosa needs the points, she is in ninth place and

:29:03.:29:07.

this one would push the forward. It is as well. -- push her. I'm so

:29:08.:29:15.

pleased she has nailed it, fantastic effort. Reverse three and a half.

:29:16.:29:21.

The only female on the planet who can do this dive and she has done it

:29:22.:29:28.

here to a fine standard. This is huge. 80 points coming her way. Has

:29:29.:29:34.

she done enough to stay with the pack? We'll wait and see. Still not

:29:35.:29:41.

totally happy with it, but 81.6 is a good return. Her opening round dive

:29:42.:29:49.

put her slightly off the pace, that's probably why she isn't

:29:50.:29:54.

smiling. She has two more to do. Certainly has but she has over 200

:29:55.:30:01.

now, so she is in the mix. As indeed is Sabri, more than her established

:30:02.:30:09.

Malaysian colleague at this stage. Very consistent so far. 72, 70 five.

:30:10.:30:18.

Here comes the arm stand, and a bit of wind as well. I'm not sure that

:30:19.:30:25.

the wind is up enough to affect Sabri, who really went after the

:30:26.:30:29.

dive. Holding a very firm balance but using a very well executed

:30:30.:30:35.

donkey kick in order to get the dive moving. Great spin speed, just

:30:36.:30:46.

exited the dive to -- too late. The first surfboard moment we've had.

:30:47.:30:51.

She's loving it, 17 years old. Six, that's a shame. She got a great

:30:52.:30:54.

start but she couldn't quite get the end.

:30:55.:30:59.

Yes, she was in contention, but that will put her back at least a couple

:31:00.:31:07.

of places, you would think, 59.40 four Nur Sabri. Let's turn our

:31:08.:31:12.

attention to Tonia Couch. Not a great start, a much better second

:31:13.:31:16.

round. Needs to get going to be in contention for anything other than a

:31:17.:31:23.

minor place. Inward three and a half somersaults, worth 3.2, for Tania --

:31:24.:31:38.

Tonia. Oh! What a shame. Tonia has been having difficulty with this

:31:39.:31:43.

dive. She really, really nailed this in the prelims. Just leaving that

:31:44.:31:49.

short, not quite completing the dive. The judges will heavily

:31:50.:31:54.

penalised her. That is a huge shame for Britain's Tonia Couch. Yes, I'm

:31:55.:32:04.

afraid with 64, 67, now 52... She's out of it. You do the maths. It's

:32:05.:32:09.

hard to swallow but she will be way off the pack. Medal not coming her

:32:10.:32:19.

way today for Great Britain, she can't do a Jacques Blaauw and

:32:20.:32:22.

recover that much from the semifinal. Onto Meaghan Benfeito,

:32:23.:32:26.

the two Canadians have been rocking it so far, see if she can rock it

:32:27.:32:33.

still further with a back three and a half. Oh, yes, she can, she blasts

:32:34.:32:39.

off into the atmosphere! This is unbelievable stuff for Meaghan

:32:40.:32:43.

Benfeito. My word! This is good enough to get out and do the Mobot

:32:44.:32:55.

afterwards. Eights coming her way at least. Superb diving, three out of

:32:56.:33:00.

three for the 27-year-old. Already won a bronze in the sink row last

:33:01.:33:03.

week and now she is putting pressure on the rest of the field. Bronze in

:33:04.:33:08.

the synchro four years ago as well and made the final. Only 11th in

:33:09.:33:13.

London. She will be much further up the pack them that if she carries on

:33:14.:33:23.

in that vein. 81, 78, now 79.20, 238 total marks, that will really lay

:33:24.:33:27.

down a platform, little platform, for the rest. Minami Itahashi from

:33:28.:33:36.

Japan, the youngster with her back three and a half somersaults with

:33:37.:33:42.

tuck. Well, it's good. I think there's so much more potential. She

:33:43.:33:46.

doesn't quite finish off the job. You can see here a big knee bent

:33:47.:33:50.

doesn't quite straight on through the legs. She kind of dips into

:33:51.:33:55.

this. She plays the waiting game, gets the exit of the dive right but

:33:56.:34:03.

it is shonky on the finish, slightly out of alignment and therefore only

:34:04.:34:09.

getting sevens. Yes. Yes, it's now the diving Mexican which will

:34:10.:34:15.

probably be in the Oxford English dictionary before too long, the crew

:34:16.:34:20.

three is the word we carried through from last year, getting a lot of use

:34:21.:34:26.

here. The two Canadians have started in very impressive fashion, Roseline

:34:27.:34:34.

Filion now, chooses to go with this dive that a lot go with in round

:34:35.:34:38.

one, in round three. Forward three and a half. Well, like-for-like with

:34:39.:34:45.

her synchro partner, different times of course. This is amazing diving.

:34:46.:34:49.

Wow! Well, whatever they did, the

:34:50.:34:59.

Canadians in between, whether they went back for a barbecue, or

:35:00.:35:03.

whatever they have done, to refuel, to re-energise and come out all guns

:35:04.:35:09.

blazing, this is Canada kicking it. Yes, that word you can't use, well,

:35:10.:35:13.

you probably could, are we watershed? No, we are not there yet

:35:14.:35:21.

so we won't use it. 76.54 Bosley Stiliyan, the code -- Canadian

:35:22.:35:27.

coaches going berserk. Quite right too. They normally reacts quite

:35:28.:35:31.

positively even if the dive isn't that good. It has sent them into

:35:32.:35:37.

overdrive. It is Canada one and two at the moment which is probably why

:35:38.:35:41.

they are so excited. She pretty much blew her chances of getting in the

:35:42.:35:44.

top three in round two, here is her arms stand. Not the most

:35:45.:35:49.

concentrated on stand we will see today, 3.2. Complicated enough

:35:50.:35:56.

though. And well executed, just a little bit of splash. You could see

:35:57.:36:03.

Pandelela right on the edge of the diving board, they can choose where

:36:04.:36:06.

they want to dive. She was on the side. You can see quite close to the

:36:07.:36:10.

left-hand side we look at it there, this is because of divers dive

:36:11.:36:16.

synchro, so they choose the side of the board and stick to it. If you

:36:17.:36:20.

are wondering why they are standing in different spots, that is why.

:36:21.:36:26.

Yes, you may recall her being very impressive at the Commonwealth Games

:36:27.:36:32.

in Edinburgh, the diving events were in Edinburgh, not Glasgow, two years

:36:33.:36:38.

ago. Not quite as impressive today. She might be in that shake-up for

:36:39.:36:42.

third place, but it's not going to be her. It could be one of the

:36:43.:36:47.

Canadians, it could be the American. Kim did well to make the semifinal,

:36:48.:36:52.

the final place she managed to grab by just a point. She's improved

:36:53.:36:57.

greatly since then. Here's her arm stank. -- on stand. That's more

:36:58.:37:06.

complicated. Him doing all the right things on the take-off and spin

:37:07.:37:11.

speed, just exit the dive too late and cannot do anything about the

:37:12.:37:14.

massive over rotation, causing a mini tsunami as she enters the

:37:15.:37:20.

water. Seen here on the super slow motion, she puts her feet up too

:37:21.:37:25.

high, opens up through her chest and over rotates. There is the wave.

:37:26.:37:32.

Yes, emptying the pool. You will notice now it's azure blue.

:37:33.:37:39.

Back to where it was, better than where it was, the first couple of

:37:40.:37:45.

days was a bit cloudy, but you can see right through to the bottom.

:37:46.:37:49.

It's an advantage for the divers in terms of their sporting of the

:37:50.:37:55.

water. The water coming in from the side is to make the visibility

:37:56.:38:01.

better. Melissa Wu. OK, tremendous from Melissa Wu. Well, she needs to

:38:02.:38:11.

be on this kind of form. She maybe needs a little bit of luck, as well,

:38:12.:38:15.

with others around her faltering which isn't happening yet, because

:38:16.:38:19.

this is only 2.8 degrees of difficulty and she is absolutely

:38:20.:38:24.

drilled this dive. She will get nines. It's an absolute corker.

:38:25.:38:31.

Lupin electrical -- lucky leprechaun needed, pot of gold at the end of

:38:32.:38:38.

the rainbow, still in the mix. A chat with the coach, there was a ten

:38:39.:38:43.

in there, in case you didn't see it up briefly, it doesn't count towards

:38:44.:38:47.

the total. One judge loved it enough to give it full marks. It will be a

:38:48.:38:51.

nine, nine and another nine towards that score of 75.6. Second placed at

:38:52.:39:00.

the moment. Here's Ren Qian of China, back three and a half, once

:39:01.:39:08.

again, 3.3. Wow! I think we have seen our first ten. This is stunning

:39:09.:39:15.

come from start to finish. Wow! The only thing she has got her boots on,

:39:16.:39:21.

feet flat, so maybe it's a 9.5. Other than that, that is nigh on

:39:22.:39:27.

perfect. Twinkle toes needs to point her toes, but that is the dive off

:39:28.:39:34.

the meat so far. 90 points plus, yes. We've had loads of 80s and I've

:39:35.:39:41.

had been enthusiastic and eulogising those, but we've gone through the 90

:39:42.:39:48.

barrier, 94.05, so she is now gone 18 point past Meaghan Benfeito and

:39:49.:39:57.

23 ahead of Roseline Filion, but don't count your chickens yet

:39:58.:40:00.

because this young lady is having a particularly good competition. 22

:40:01.:40:09.

years of age, a big improvement for Jessica Parratto, inward three and a

:40:10.:40:13.

half with tuck for the American. Well, feeling the pressure, there

:40:14.:40:19.

you go, that's obviously got to her. Wow. That's a huge wobble. This is

:40:20.:40:24.

one of her better dives, maybe even one of her easier dives. And as soon

:40:25.:40:32.

as the pressure comes on, it's like the hammer on the cracks, will they

:40:33.:40:38.

appear? Well, my tip for a medal exiting out of the back door. 44.80.

:40:39.:40:55.

It's my bit now! Soap Jessica Parratto 44.8, 4.5, 4.5 and five.

:40:56.:41:00.

Know your place, Leon Taylor, please! Si Yajie of China, our

:41:01.:41:08.

current leader, best in the preliminaries. Very impressive in

:41:09.:41:13.

the semifinal. A huge lead over the rest. Can she opened up a chasm over

:41:14.:41:20.

Ren Qian? Very unlikely. On stand back double somersault, one and a

:41:21.:41:25.

half twists. Wow, like-for-like, this is outstanding, isn't it? What

:41:26.:41:32.

a competition. This is first class. The two Chinese teenagers are a cut

:41:33.:41:40.

above, even in this exceptional standard of contest. My word! This

:41:41.:41:47.

is nines coming Si Yajie's way and she will be right up there next to

:41:48.:41:54.

Ren Qian. Well, she's not leading. OK. Ren Qian has just edged in

:41:55.:42:02.

front. Where's that coming from? Music is blaring out. We're into the

:42:03.:42:09.

club! This is the music at France House, one of the... Or Holland

:42:10.:42:18.

House, that's also a good one. Its China one and two, but a change in

:42:19.:42:24.

place, it's gone seesaw, with Meaghan Benfeito in third, the two

:42:25.:42:30.

Canadians separated by size, and Tonia Couch sadly where we suggested

:42:31.:42:36.

she might be after that dive in round three, number 12 in the

:42:37.:42:43.

pecking order of 12. Well, it's filled a little bit in the Maria

:42:44.:42:49.

Lenk Aquatics Centre, a few more people in. Still a lot of people at

:42:50.:42:53.

the synchro swimming, too many for my liking but there you go. It's a

:42:54.:42:59.

good noise, loads of flags, Japanese flags, US, Malaysia and flags, quite

:43:00.:43:04.

a few of those. The support their 42-macro goals, but there are long

:43:05.:43:09.

way down the pack. -- they are supporting two goals. It looks like

:43:10.:43:16.

China and can do it doing battle, maybe Fowler Espinosa just trying to

:43:17.:43:19.

get in there somehow, she's not too far out of the way, just ten shy of

:43:20.:43:26.

Roseline Filion, ten short of Meaghan Benfeito, she does have one

:43:27.:43:32.

of the higher tariff programmes here. A great third-round dive. Can

:43:33.:43:40.

she back it up? Inward three and a half somersault is come with tuck,

:43:41.:43:46.

for the Mexican Paola Espinosa, the oldest competitor, the most

:43:47.:43:50.

experienced competitor in this field. Well, she is making her

:43:51.:44:01.

experience Count. That is superb. Just her trademark slight lower back

:44:02.:44:07.

arch as she goes in, other than that it's an outstanding dive from Paola

:44:08.:44:12.

Espinosa, opening up the fourth round as she opened up the third

:44:13.:44:17.

round. This is hot stuff. Yes, she won't have given up a chance of a

:44:18.:44:21.

top three finish either, and why should she with marks like that?

:44:22.:44:25.

81.6 in round three and she replicates that in round four as

:44:26.:44:31.

well and is the first of the hit the 300 mark, 305 so far. What a

:44:32.:44:36.

competition we have, we certainly can't put any of the medals around

:44:37.:44:40.

any of the next, as yet. It's way too tight. China one and two, but it

:44:41.:44:47.

could be Canada one and two quite easily, the way this is progressing,

:44:48.:44:53.

with Mexico in the mix as well. Nur Sabri, the highest place of the

:44:54.:44:56.

Malaysian is at this stage, back three and a half somersault is with

:44:57.:45:04.

tuck. Well, Nur Sabri starting, there is starting to appear for this

:45:05.:45:08.

very, very young Malaysians will stop -- there are errors starting to

:45:09.:45:13.

appear. She loves it out there in this arena, diving, loves her sport,

:45:14.:45:18.

trains so hard, up to six or seven hours a day to perfect her art and

:45:19.:45:23.

it just shows how easy it is for things to go slightly out of line.

:45:24.:45:27.

It's not quite as easy as getting dogs to salivate, you have to train

:45:28.:45:33.

and train and train, and even then it doesn't quite get it right.

:45:34.:45:35.

Science references. We had a Sesame Street this morning

:45:36.:45:41.

and now it is Pavlov's dog. Tonia Couch. Eighth place in

:45:42.:45:57.

Beijing, she didn't get to do the individual event in 2012. Two and a

:45:58.:46:03.

half somersaults, one and a half twists. That's really good from

:46:04.:46:14.

Tonia. Great dive. But she has left herself too much to do here to

:46:15.:46:19.

challenge. This will be good enough to get her off the bottom place in

:46:20.:46:25.

the final. She has worked hard to be here and she will continue diving at

:46:26.:46:30.

the best of her ability to get back some of those places but she is off

:46:31.:46:35.

the pack. Normally when she is diving at her best, a lot of smiling

:46:36.:46:43.

and waving. A bit of a grimace from Tonia but she will try to work her

:46:44.:46:50.

way up to get alongside the likes of Kim to get off the 12th place, to

:46:51.:46:57.

get into the top ten if she can. There may be some faltering to go,

:46:58.:47:02.

we still have round four. Meaghan Benfeito's arm stand. She's had a

:47:03.:47:10.

brilliant programme so far, 81, 78, 70 nine. Can she get into the 80s

:47:11.:47:16.

with this? Arm stand back somersault, one and a half twists.

:47:17.:47:26.

Wow. What a sensational... Effort. My word, I am shocked to see the

:47:27.:47:36.

quality. A bit of helicopter feet as she took off, she got it together,

:47:37.:47:41.

keeping her feet glued together. Short of vertical but still good

:47:42.:47:46.

enough for eights. Benfeito is definitely in the bronze medal

:47:47.:47:51.

position. She has come close to winning medals in big championships

:47:52.:47:56.

before, fourth in Shanghai in the worlds in 2011 and forth in Rome in

:47:57.:48:02.

2009. It would be agonisingly she came fourth, the way she is diving

:48:03.:48:11.

today. She is their or thereabouts. Itahashi," Joe years' time -- in

:48:12.:48:18.

watch a year's time she will be mustered. Other brands are

:48:19.:48:27.

available. The rumour is that she does four and a half tucks. You can

:48:28.:48:34.

see that she has a lot of time, cruising out of the dive. What an

:48:35.:48:40.

exciting dive. Some are scrappy on the bottom but she has a lot of

:48:41.:48:46.

time. Beautiful dive. Yes, not enough room to catch up at this

:48:47.:48:56.

stage. A big smile, she loves it. She knows she can improve. She has

:48:57.:49:01.

delighted us over the last couple of days. Here comes what I call the big

:49:02.:49:09.

arm stand, it is three somersaults with it. Slightly higher degree of

:49:10.:49:14.

difficulty than the other one. 3.3. We've seen the Canadians getting

:49:15.:49:23.

everything right so far. If she gets 8.5s she is in the lead.

:49:24.:49:32.

Ooh that is the first fault that we've seen from Filion. She'll be

:49:33.:49:45.

annoyed with that. Good take-off, all the way through, she exited the

:49:46.:49:49.

dive a bit too early, Masip splash there.

:49:50.:49:55.

Falling away from the medal places -- massive bash. What a shame

:49:56.:50:02.

because she was having a good old tussle with her partner for a

:50:03.:50:07.

potential third place. That's going to knock her down the standings. She

:50:08.:50:11.

was fourth after Round 3, probably going to lose a couple, maybe three

:50:12.:50:19.

positions as the juggling continues. Tonia Couch is having her own battle

:50:20.:50:26.

at the bottom with Pamg. I thought she might win a medal but it isn't

:50:27.:50:30.

going to be for the three-time Olympian. Third in London. Making

:50:31.:50:35.

the final once again, the inward three and a half of Pamg from

:50:36.:50:43.

Malaysia. Yeah it is fair to middling by her standards. This dive

:50:44.:50:52.

is pretty routine. She doesn't look sharp. She has some strapping on her

:50:53.:50:59.

right ankle. When you are finishing that low to the water it is a bit of

:51:00.:51:10.

a scramble. Here come the marks. Yes, 7.5 times two, with difficulty

:51:11.:51:21.

giving her 73.6. That will move her a little bit clear of Tonia on a 15

:51:22.:51:26.

points ahead. Sabri is ten points ahead of Tonia at the moment. Now it

:51:27.:51:34.

is on to Kim Un Hyang. What a finish,

:51:35.:51:51.

amazing dive from big Jim as we affectionately calling from North

:51:52.:51:58.

Korea. -- big Kim. Such solid entries. Great finish into the

:51:59.:52:05.

water, my word, that is the cleanest entry we've seen. "

:52:06.:52:19.

totally rad"? . The cool kids are going to know what I mean. You can

:52:20.:52:32.

look it up. Thanks very much. 82.5, that was really big for Kim, lifting

:52:33.:52:38.

her up to fourth place although she may not be there for very long

:52:39.:52:42.

because here comes Melissa Wu for Australia. Will she be totally rad?

:52:43.:52:49.

It doesn't sound right when I say it. She's on the money. Some people

:52:50.:53:03.

very much right with their predictions. Melissa Wu, fourth

:53:04.:53:07.

place in London, she is on the money all the way through. Sending a shock

:53:08.:53:16.

wave around the pool side. Our colleagues at Channel seven have

:53:17.:53:20.

something to shout about although everyone is in bed in Australia at

:53:21.:53:25.

the moment. They may be raised from their slumber is with that, 81.6.

:53:26.:53:31.

Three have gone over 300 thou. Benfeito, 315. Melissa Wu, 302.

:53:32.:53:40.

Going to be interesting in the shake-up for the medals. Here is our

:53:41.:53:49.

leader. Pretty much leading through the preliminaries and the semis, Si

:53:50.:54:01.

Yajie. 15 years of age, has her name in front. Another one. Wow. Only 15

:54:02.:54:14.

years old, such a good line, she looks as straight as a lamp post on

:54:15.:54:17.

the platform in the handstand and then exactly the same on the finish,

:54:18.:54:25.

bolt upright, no deviation. Splash, that has to be ten from me. Not much

:54:26.:54:30.

wrong with that, she had her toes pointed. Wow we are seeing a diving

:54:31.:54:37.

masterclass from the 15-year-old Ren Qian. Sorry to laugh when I'm saying

:54:38.:54:45.

that. Tom Daley was 15 years old. Tens don't count towards the total,

:54:46.:54:52.

9.5s do. The winner of the World Series in Kazan in Windsor -- and in

:54:53.:54:59.

Windsor. She knows how to win from the front and she is doing it in the

:55:00.:55:08.

Olympic final. The arm stand treble, for Jessica Parratto. Because of the

:55:09.:55:16.

error on the previous round, she isn't going to be medalling today.

:55:17.:55:27.

Using that as a verb. Lie medal for Parratto. She's all over the place

:55:28.:55:34.

now, that has really unsettled her, the error in the third round. The

:55:35.:55:38.

fourth round is another unfortunate effort. She is diving in between the

:55:39.:55:46.

Chinese pair of Ren Qian and Si Yajie. The pressure has got to her.

:55:47.:55:53.

That is a botched dive, over rotation. That's a shame. Yeah, two

:55:54.:56:03.

Paula dives -- bad dives by her standards. Great start, 81 and 79.

:56:04.:56:14.

It is like somebody flipped the coin and suddenly her diving went into

:56:15.:56:23.

reverse. Only one diver can overtake Ren Qian. It needs to be tens. It

:56:24.:56:32.

isn't going to be ten, it is a top notch effort from Si Yajie who has

:56:33.:56:35.

been outclassed by her 15-year-old counterpart. Si Yajie is only 17, a

:56:36.:56:42.

battle of the teenagers, but at the moment, Ren Qian has the upper hand.

:56:43.:56:48.

Wow. This is still a great dive, about 80 points. Fractionally short

:56:49.:56:59.

of vertical. The gap is opening up a little bit now, isn't it? Yes,

:57:00.:57:04.

considerable gap between the Chinese with that mark of 79.20. There has

:57:05.:57:14.

been a swing between Ren Qian and Si Yajie. With one more round to go in

:57:15.:57:15.

the women's ten-metre platform. STUDIO: Unfortunately Tonia Couch is

:57:16.:57:41.

down in 12th place. The final dives Matt, -- the final dives will be on

:57:42.:57:47.

the Red Button and we will bring them to you later. Jade Jones in the

:57:48.:57:53.

taekwondo is shortly in action in the semifinal and if she wins she

:57:54.:57:56.

will go through to the gold-medal bout. Jade Jones is the defending

:57:57.:58:01.

champion, coming to London as a 19-year-old, very much under the

:58:02.:58:05.

radar and came away with Britain's first ever gold medal in the sport.

:58:06.:58:11.

COMMENTATOR: A defining moment. Jade Jones going for Britain's first ever

:58:12.:58:25.

gold medal in this. She can be enormously pleased with her start to

:58:26.:58:31.

this fight. Jones has doubled the lead, what a great second round that

:58:32.:58:37.

was. Just two minutes between Jade Jones and you know what. Point by

:58:38.:58:43.

point, the gold getting closer and closer. You little beauty! The

:58:44.:58:50.

teenage kicking superstar from North Wales is the new champion. She'll

:58:51.:58:58.

remember this for ever. With that she became Britain's youngest ever

:58:59.:59:04.

gold-medallist in London 2012. She says it is different coming here,

:59:05.:59:07.

everyone knows who she is, the defending champion. She's been

:59:08.:59:12.

working hard. She lives and trains with Bianca Walkden in the heavier

:59:13.:59:16.

category, but she has practised against her because she knows that

:59:17.:59:19.

she will come up against opponents to taller than her. Massive crowds

:59:20.:59:29.

here and many are going to Carioca one. They are quite noisy. Jade

:59:30.:59:34.

Jones in action, this was not caught a final, winning it very

:59:35.:59:40.

convincingly, in the end it was 7-2. Strong athlete, she is in the red.

:59:41.:59:46.

Most of her expertise is to the head, she is known as the head

:59:47.:59:49.

kicker, an affectionate name. In very good form. The semifinal could

:59:50.:59:56.

be a very different prospect because she is up against Sweden's Nikita

:59:57.:00:00.

Glasnovic. Jade was very focused after that. She gave a bit of a

:00:01.:00:06.

smile, she acknowledged her fans but she's concentrating on one thing,

:00:07.:00:10.

she once the gold medal. She started like wonder when she was eight,

:00:11.:00:14.

introduced to it by her grandfather. If you are wondering whether you can

That is how you do it, go down, find the sport you want, taekwondo is

:01:07.:01:14.

there, click on it and away you go. So Jade will be out shortly. First

:01:15.:01:20.

of all, let's catch up on a few of the things that have happened. She

:01:21.:01:23.

is walking out now. Earlier on there was a British one and two in the

:01:24.:01:28.

men's triathlon, Alistair Brownlee leading home his brother Jonny.

:01:29.:01:33.

Mills and Clark have been able to celebrate their medal in the women's

:01:34.:01:38.

470 class. There was a silver in the canoe sprint. We have a sensational

:01:39.:01:43.

bonds medal in badminton, it was unexpected, Marcus Ellis Anant Chris

:01:44.:01:47.

Langridge, I will talk to them later on the programme. Charley Hull, in

:01:48.:01:52.

the Gulf, she is only two shots off the lead, joint third at the halfway

:01:53.:01:57.

stage of the women's golf, there is Jade Jones making her way to the

:01:58.:02:00.

arena. She is trying to keep her mind very much on the job in hand.

:02:01.:02:03.

It's been a theme, we noticed it with the hockey players as well, not

:02:04.:02:13.

getting overemotional, not celebrating too soon, they are

:02:14.:02:15.

focused on trying to win gold medals, nothing else will do.

:02:16.:02:17.

There's her opponent, Nikita Glasnovic, who has come through to

:02:18.:02:20.

this stage relatively easily. It's a friendly affair until they start

:02:21.:02:24.

fighting. The commentators for the taekwondo on John Cullen and Neal

:02:25.:02:28.

Adams. It's three rounds of two minutes and you will see the scores

:02:29.:02:32.

being marked as they make contact. It's relatively straightforward to

:02:33.:02:37.

follow. But Jade Jones I suspect will be favourite coming into this,

:02:38.:02:41.

I think she has met Glasnovic a few times and beaten her almost every

:02:42.:02:44.

time they've met, but you will get more detail from John and Neal

:02:45.:02:55.

COMMENTATOR: Three times two minute rounds, this

:02:56.:03:01.

is the semifinals, a big win here and you can guess what will happen

:03:02.:03:07.

after that. Gold and silver on the horizon. We're here at the Carioca

:03:08.:03:14.

Arena number three, downtown Rio, a packed crowd, a big occasion. Six

:03:15.:03:19.

minutes to decide it. Glasnovic comes forward, using that push kick.

:03:20.:03:25.

Jones responds, very aggressive. Push kick in response, absolutely,

:03:26.:03:30.

came forward straightaway. Both of them absolutely coming forward.

:03:31.:03:40.

Jones avoids Glasnovic's reach, tries to flick one out of her own

:03:41.:03:46.

there. This is a battle for territory, looking for the space. A

:03:47.:03:53.

punch attempts from Jones on the way through. No purchase on it though.

:03:54.:03:57.

The 21-year-old Nikita Glasnovic, slightly the tour of the two come

:03:58.:04:02.

but the strength advantage you would fancy for Jones. She to flick one

:04:03.:04:10.

upstairs. -- she tries to flick one upstairs. Three points for a head

:04:11.:04:14.

kicks, one for a shot to the body. If you can spin you get extra

:04:15.:04:18.

points. At the moment the referee separates them. There's been an

:04:19.:04:23.

excellent opening first minute. Yes, they are feeling each other out, but

:04:24.:04:27.

good defence from both as well as attack, which is a great thing to

:04:28.:04:30.

see. They are both great athletes. The British contingent in the crowd

:04:31.:04:50.

trying to cheer forward Jade Jones. The Welsh warrior going forward with

:04:51.:04:54.

that push kick. It's all about optimal Estyn. Everyone's legs are

:04:55.:05:04.

different lengths. Jade Jones is going for the head. She gets the

:05:05.:05:10.

body, a simple push kick. Nikita Glasnovic with 20 seconds left, the

:05:11.:05:15.

Swede, she will have to think about her tactics, sharp shock, or go for

:05:16.:05:23.

it. A good shot from Jones getting closer to the head. Glasnovic in a

:05:24.:05:26.

little bit of trouble. She will be glad to hear the buzz here. She

:05:27.:05:34.

changed the with the turning kick, Jade Jones, but a great start for

:05:35.:05:36.

her. We'll try to have a sneaky listen to

:05:37.:05:50.

the coaches, but a stalemate, but Jade Jones finding that little bit

:05:51.:05:54.

of accuracy. That's what it's all about, isn't it? This whole game is

:05:55.:05:59.

about the accuracy and obviously it's about space as well, closing at

:06:00.:06:03.

space, but closing that is based at the right time. -- closing that

:06:04.:06:12.

space at the right time. Speaking of time, it's ticking away now. Both

:06:13.:06:18.

fighters' last-minute bits of rest. The Welsh contingent in the crowd,

:06:19.:06:26.

Paul Green, the coach. Himself an Olympian back in Athens. But this,

:06:27.:06:31.

the Rio Olympic Games, Nikita Glasnovic of Sweden, one point down

:06:32.:06:36.

against Jade Jones. The Swede trying to come forward, good defence from

:06:37.:06:37.

Jones. That push kick so effective there

:06:38.:06:49.

from Jade Jones. Tries again after the push kick with a bike leg --

:06:50.:06:55.

back leg turning kick. The Swede is resolute, hanging on their, it's a

:06:56.:07:00.

1-point game. Change that, it's a two point game. It changes so

:07:01.:07:05.

quickly. It's a crumb of comfort for Jones. Difficult for Glasnovic now,

:07:06.:07:14.

she will take it here. Great combinations, Jade Jones.

:07:15.:07:20.

Tries with the back leg turning kick, well blocked by Glasnovic. The

:07:21.:07:31.

Swede is two points down, Jade Jones is ever focused. Glasnovic did bring

:07:32.:07:37.

a little gift across and it's a gift of a point there. Steals it under

:07:38.:07:42.

the guard, tried to flick one of her own up the stairs. That's one of the

:07:43.:07:48.

biggest things, she is so focused. We have four points there. Excellent

:07:49.:07:54.

response with the head shot there from Glasnovic. Jones had taken a

:07:55.:07:58.

four point lead. The Swede flicked one up the stairs, found an open

:07:59.:08:03.

door. Found the face of the Flint fighter.

:08:04.:08:13.

I think she committed, but left herself open for that, didn't she?

:08:14.:08:23.

But credit to the Swede on that one. Turns defence into attack,

:08:24.:08:25.

Glasnovic. It was a 1-point game at the end of the first round. There is

:08:26.:08:30.

a Kyong-go hanging against the Swede, the last ten seconds here,

:08:31.:08:35.

the Flint fighter Jade Jones, Olympic champion back in London, a

:08:36.:08:40.

final at stake here. She goes in at the end of the second round with a

:08:41.:08:48.

1-point lead. Neal Adams, Olympian yourself, silver-medallist yourself,

:08:49.:08:50.

you know what this feeling is like, trying to get into the final? Yes,

:08:51.:08:56.

absolutely. It is one of the hardest things in the world. You know you

:08:57.:09:01.

have everything resting on this now, and well, I don't know what her

:09:02.:09:05.

coach is going to be saying to her but for me now, looking at this

:09:06.:09:09.

last, we have seen so many that have been lost in this last two minutes.

:09:10.:09:17.

So what does she do? She has to I think just keep focused, keep

:09:18.:09:21.

focused, keep her head in the game. Keep her head in the game as well,

:09:22.:09:26.

Glasnovic, she has been focused and resolute, the Swede. Very much

:09:27.:09:31.

involved. And of course the 21-year-old from Malmo, she has

:09:32.:09:37.

excellent pedigree coming into this. Nikita Glasnovic just one point down

:09:38.:09:42.

against Jade Jones, the women's 57 kilograms semifinal here in Rio at

:09:43.:09:47.

the Olympic Arena and it's an excellent little push kick from Jade

:09:48.:09:53.

Jones, a good start. Glasnovic tried to get involved on the back foot

:09:54.:09:57.

though, keep -- takes another push kick. Great Britain's Jones getting

:09:58.:10:02.

a bit of dominance here. Yes, it's not just accurate as well, it's got

:10:03.:10:07.

power, hasn't it, that front kick? It's fantastic stuff from Jones, she

:10:08.:10:12.

scores again. There's a three come to the head, so she gets another

:10:13.:10:15.

three points, Jade Jones. Look at this now! Really going to work.

:10:16.:10:22.

She turns defence into attack, 9-3 to the good now. Jade Jones had a

:10:23.:10:29.

little look at her corner to say looking for a potential head shot,

:10:30.:10:35.

but the coach thinking better of it. Some change left in the third here.

:10:36.:10:41.

Nikita Glasnovic from Sweden, can she summon it up? We seen her

:10:42.:10:46.

flexibility. Does she have the variety? Jade Jones, excellent

:10:47.:10:52.

strength, standing on that front leg, keeping the Swede at bay,

:10:53.:10:56.

excellent defence. That's what she's got to think about now, defence,

:10:57.:11:00.

rather than going forward on. When she got scored on the head she was

:11:01.:11:05.

going forwards. Going forwards is Glasnovic. Tries the back leg

:11:06.:11:10.

turning kick, well defended by Jones, moving around, why wonderful

:11:11.:11:14.

shot of the arena. High drama in downtown Rio. Gold medals at stake.

:11:15.:11:23.

Just 41 seconds, can't afford to go outside the area. I think she's just

:11:24.:11:30.

needs to stand her ground. Good defence, she has good defence, just

:11:31.:11:35.

use it now for the last 30 seconds. It's a good punch from Glasnovic,

:11:36.:11:40.

who looks absolutely exhausted. A spot in the Olympic final, Jade

:11:41.:11:44.

Jones defending resolutely. A formidable force, this fighter from

:11:45.:11:52.

Cup Flint, landing to the body. It's all about timing, just using that

:11:53.:11:56.

push kick just to keep her away, keep her at bay.

:11:57.:12:04.

Nikita Glasnovic on the attack, trying to go forward. Jade Jones

:12:05.:12:11.

spinning around, using her footwork. She will take a Kyong-go, it will be

:12:12.:12:16.

a 5-point game now and Jones avoiding the head shot there. She

:12:17.:12:20.

knows she has one foot in the Olympic final. She has one foot on

:12:21.:12:24.

the edge of the ring. The crowd are up for this one. Takes the Kyong-go,

:12:25.:12:28.

immaterial. The referee almost takes one in the head there from

:12:29.:12:32.

Glasnovic. Good defence from Jade Jones. Can she defend her title? She

:12:33.:12:43.

has a chance. She's in the final and second consecutive Olympic final and

:12:44.:12:46.

look at that, the British and the crowd go absolutely mad. They love

:12:47.:12:52.

it. Great support out there and that was amazing. Jade Jones going for

:12:53.:12:54.

her second Olympic title. CLARE BALDING:

:12:55.:13:04.

Glasnovic Ann Jones embrace, Jade Jones will be hugely relieved at

:13:05.:13:08.

that, she wanted the final, nothing else, all she has come for rid the

:13:09.:13:12.

gold medal, defending her title at the moment in style and that gold

:13:13.:13:16.

medal belt will be at 2am your time. To IM, they have to fight three

:13:17.:13:22.

times in one day. It's 10pm Brazil time, to a British time, Glasnovic

:13:23.:13:26.

looks exhausted, but Jones will celebrate for a short time, not for

:13:27.:13:38.

long, and she will refocus for the final. We will find out who she

:13:39.:13:41.

fights later in the programme. Back at the diving, Tonia Couch of Great

:13:42.:13:43.

Britain was out of medal contentions. We will bring you the

:13:44.:13:45.

conclusion of the diving, with the final dives of Ren Qian from China

:13:46.:13:50.

after -- leading after four rounds. This is Melissa Wu from Australia, a

:13:51.:13:57.

more gentle sport than taekwondo but just as accurate.

:13:58.:14:01.

COMMENTATOR: Fourth-place, maybe. Yes, she's

:14:02.:14:05.

faltered, she needed perfect tens, she hasn't got it. You can see the

:14:06.:14:10.

Canadian celebration there. Melissa Wu narrowly missing out again,

:14:11.:14:14.

fourth in the prelims, fourth in the semifinal, for four years ago and I

:14:15.:14:18.

think this might be another place. Let's wait and see. Watching the

:14:19.:14:28.

replay here. Oh! Agony, it really will be. She's worked so hard for

:14:29.:14:34.

this. Going through the routine, just replaying the dive physically

:14:35.:14:41.

and in their minds. That means... She will be fifth. She's finished

:14:42.:14:48.

higher than Paola Espinosa. It will be fifth placed at best for Melissa

:14:49.:14:59.

Wu. 368, Espinosa 377. She's in tears, because she's got a medal no

:15:00.:15:04.

matter what happens now. Meaghan Benfeito has a medal. We would

:15:05.:15:09.

expect the Chinese to go rocketing over 400 here but which one will get

:15:10.:15:15.

the highest? Easily over 400. Is it the 15-year-old who will go first?

:15:16.:15:19.

Ren Qian. She has the lead. Phenomenal, my word. That is your

:15:20.:15:30.

Olympic gold-medallist, without any doubt. Only 15 years old. You have

:15:31.:15:37.

to be 14 to be allowed to compete in the Olympic Games and following on,

:15:38.:15:43.

like many of her countrywomen before her, Ren Qian, at the tender age of

:15:44.:15:49.

15, has annihilated this high-scoring world-class field.

:15:50.:16:03.

Yeah, words fail me. 91.2. What a suggestion of scores. 94, 91, 91.

:16:04.:16:14.

Astonishing. Look at that smile, what a butterfly, just coming out.

:16:15.:16:19.

So classy, all the way through. Beautiful diving, elegant, classy.

:16:20.:16:25.

World beating. Annihilating the field. 15 years of age. She was

:16:26.:16:35.

second in Kazan last year and the World Championships but the Olympic

:16:36.:16:40.

champion in 2016 because she can't be caught. Not enough marks

:16:41.:16:46.

available for anyone to overhaul her. Jessica Parratto was so close

:16:47.:16:51.

but she faltered. Back two and a half somersaults, one and a half

:16:52.:16:56.

twists. That is a glimpse of what she can do but two huge errors in

:16:57.:17:00.

rounds three and four will see her having to come back another day to

:17:01.:17:06.

fight again. She was blisteringly hot in the preliminaries and

:17:07.:17:11.

especially the semifinal. Just diving out of the competition here.

:17:12.:17:16.

She'll be close to the bottom. Half of the field. Where will she end up,

:17:17.:17:23.

ninth place, tenth? At the moment she is in ninth place but Si Yajie

:17:24.:17:30.

is going to overhaul her. So it will be tenth place for the USA. These

:17:31.:17:35.

and programme, both men's and women's, improving greatly -- decent

:17:36.:17:40.

programme. We still have the Olympic championship in the men's. Diving

:17:41.:17:52.

tomorrow in the preliminaries. It should be relatively straightforward

:17:53.:17:55.

now offer Si Yajie -- for the silver. Si Yajie can't catch Ren

:17:56.:18:03.

Qian. Sixes will do it, for silver, for the Chinese 1-2. Yeah, Chinese

:18:04.:18:14.

1-2, as we expected. Ren Qian obviously isn't as good at

:18:15.:18:18.

mathematics as us, you have won. Your team-mate, Si Yajie, diving

:18:19.:18:25.

very well but she has been outclassed by her younger team-mate.

:18:26.:18:30.

This was absolutely wonderful. Commentating on this competition was

:18:31.:18:34.

a real treat. The standard is through the roof. Both Chinese

:18:35.:18:41.

diverse, way over 400, like smashing the ten seconds in the men's 100

:18:42.:18:51.

metres. 419 and not winning it. Wow. 81, 76, 89 and 76 the Si Yajie. On

:18:52.:18:59.

any other occasion that would get you the gold, but not today because

:19:00.:19:05.

your team-mate was some 20 points, get that, 20 points better than you.

:19:06.:19:09.

That's astonishing for a 15-year-old. It shows that age is no

:19:10.:19:17.

barrier in sport, certainly Chinese sport anyway. Unbelievable, wasn't

:19:18.:19:27.

it? That was a diving Master Class. Her scores. 78, 84, 94, 91, 91. You

:19:28.:19:37.

are kidding me? That is just bonkers. And she wasn't bleeding

:19:38.:19:42.

after the first round. She was in third place, fourth place smack

:19:43.:19:48.

-- wasn't leading. Meaghan Benfeito has an individual medal, third place

:19:49.:19:57.

with 389. Relatively comfortable. Espinoza missing out again. Melissa

:19:58.:20:15.

Wu again missing out. Fourth-place Quadra years ago. Tonia Couch, it

:20:16.:20:22.

wasn't her day, to put it mildly, she wasn't on form. But she made the

:20:23.:20:30.

final and that in itself is a great achievement. STUDIO: Celebrations

:20:31.:20:37.

for China and you just wonder from the slow motion and how they don't

:20:38.:20:43.

get their head. Stunning to watch. The headlights so far on Day 13.

:20:44.:20:50.

Huge celebrations for Britain and the Brownlees, a 1-2 in the men's

:20:51.:20:57.

triathlon, Alistair Brownlee leading home his brother Jonny to become the

:20:58.:21:00.

first man to retain the Olympic title. They are the first brothers

:21:01.:21:06.

to win the Olympic gold and silver in the same event since 1950. After

:21:07.:21:13.

being frustrated by the weather yesterday, Hannah Mills and Saskia

:21:14.:21:16.

Clark were able to celebrate after their gold in the sailing 470 class

:21:17.:21:22.

was confirmed in the medal race. I love that running around the podium!

:21:23.:21:28.

Team GB's 21st gold medal. Liam Heath and Jon Scofield -- Jonny

:21:45.:21:49.

four years ago. She won her semifinal and she will be going for

:21:50.:21:57.

gold at 2am. Marcus Ellis and Chris Langridge only tamed up a couple of

:21:58.:22:00.

years ago and today they owned bridge and a first Olympic badminton

:22:01.:22:06.

medal in 12 years by winning their bronze play-off match in the men's

:22:07.:22:14.

doubles. -- Chris Langridge. They are joining me now. Congratulations,

:22:15.:22:17.

where are your medals, when do you get them? Tomorrow, the final has to

:22:18.:22:21.

be played and then we get ours which we are looking forward to. Markers,

:22:22.:22:25.

I said you teamed up a short time ago, how did you get together? It

:22:26.:22:31.

was because of one of our colleagues switching to mixed, so it worked out

:22:32.:22:35.

well for me because at the time I didn't actually have a partner.

:22:36.:22:39.

Luckily I teamed up with Chris and one thing led to another and we are

:22:40.:22:44.

standing here today. Chris, you have said that you have been on this

:22:45.:22:49.

giant-killing run, you are not necessarily the best in the

:22:50.:22:53.

competition but you try the hardest! Yeah, we are honest, normal guys, we

:22:54.:22:57.

aren't going to make out that we are superstars. We are very good but we

:22:58.:23:00.

are not necessarily the best on paper. Something we have done well

:23:01.:23:05.

in this tournament, we have given more, we have wanted it more, the

:23:06.:23:10.

hunger we have had. Speaking to carriages from the other teams and

:23:11.:23:13.

they say that everyone is taking notice of us, which is nice to hear

:23:14.:23:18.

because of the passion we have. This means so much for us because we are

:23:19.:23:22.

so happy, so excited for tomorrow's medals. You provided drama to the

:23:23.:23:28.

last because the bronze medal match went to a deciding game and match

:23:29.:23:32.

point and you had about ten match points at this stage. This went to a

:23:33.:23:38.

decision by Hawk-Eye. You could have let it pass because you had more

:23:39.:23:41.

match points in hand, but you challenged. Yeah I did, as I struck

:23:42.:23:49.

the server side -- the serve I said I was sure it was in. Why was sure

:23:50.:23:55.

it was right. I was two feet wrong earlier, it is embarrassing when you

:23:56.:24:00.

get it wrong. When it went in, it was pure relief and we were so

:24:01.:24:05.

happy. You can see from your reaction what it means to you. Your

:24:06.:24:10.

coaching staff and your team. How must you think people at home will

:24:11.:24:15.

be celebrating? The amount of messages we've received, it has been

:24:16.:24:18.

pretty well received. I think we are going to have celebrations when we

:24:19.:24:23.

get home. I'm really gutted that my parents couldn't be here because I

:24:24.:24:28.

know that they would be so proud. It is really sad that they couldn't be

:24:29.:24:32.

here. What message would you like to send home because you probably

:24:33.:24:34.

haven't had a chance to talk to them? We've had Simon a nice

:24:35.:24:39.

messages, we've not had a chance to reply to them but I would like to

:24:40.:24:43.

say a massive thank you, we read every message and we appreciate it.

:24:44.:24:47.

Some of the people have been texting us and saying they have been crying,

:24:48.:24:52.

the amount of passion we've received, it makes it feel even more

:24:53.:24:56.

special. I think it is a response to the passion with which you talk

:24:57.:25:00.

about the game and how much you have thrown into your game. Chris, if you

:25:01.:25:06.

could say to anybody watching, the joy of badminton and how they could

:25:07.:25:09.

get involved, and who influenced your career? That's the thing, it is

:25:10.:25:14.

key in any sport, I started because my schoolteacher at middle School,

:25:15.:25:21.

when I was ten years old, she was the County coach. Me and my friends

:25:22.:25:25.

started playing and that is the only reason I'm here today. It is massive

:25:26.:25:34.

thanks to the school and Jackie Cunningham and her husband because

:25:35.:25:37.

they started me on this track. It is something we want to get across, you

:25:38.:25:41.

have to get involved. You may not be the best, because you are not the

:25:42.:25:45.

best now it does not mean you cannot be the best. As long as you enjoy

:25:46.:25:49.

it, give it everything, give it a try. The Olympics is the place you

:25:50.:25:53.

want to make it happen but it isn't the only global competition. What's

:25:54.:25:59.

next? I'm going on my honeymoon because I haven't had that yet. When

:26:00.:26:05.

were you married? New Year's Eve. Quite a long time ago. I have had

:26:06.:26:10.

some nagging from my wife, but we are sorted and looking forward to

:26:11.:26:15.

it. That is a nagging, I think that is respectable debate if you haven't

:26:16.:26:20.

been on your honeymoon yet. You are right there! Sorry! We have a

:26:21.:26:26.

holiday and then back to training. My first -- our first tournament

:26:27.:26:31.

together, is it the Danish Open? It is in October, so we have a nice

:26:32.:26:35.

break in September before we play again. Has this given you the

:26:36.:26:39.

enthusiasm to get back on the training court and to be in Tokyo? I

:26:40.:26:44.

might even do some training on my honeymoon! I don't know. It has

:26:45.:26:50.

given us so much. I think it has made us realise how good we are. We

:26:51.:26:55.

have come here, winning a bronze medal. It doesn't seem real. It's

:26:56.:27:00.

like we are dreaming, it is a crazy feeling and it should give us the

:27:01.:27:05.

motivation and positive attitude. There is hardly anybody we can't

:27:06.:27:08.

beat so I'm looking forward to those tournaments. Inspirational stuff,

:27:09.:27:12.

well done, enjoy your medal ceremony. Marcus Ellis and Chris

:27:13.:27:19.

Langridge. The training centre in Milton Keynes, a lot of investment

:27:20.:27:22.

has gone into badminton and it shows. What about boxing? We came

:27:23.:27:27.

here with 12 boxers, some of them fell by the wayside but Joshua

:27:28.:27:32.

Buatsi made sure of a bronze medal. He lost his semifinal and did not

:27:33.:27:40.

have a chance to fight for gold but he started well, two knockouts. He

:27:41.:27:44.

was frustrated in the semifinal, some holding tactics but he has a

:27:45.:27:50.

bronze medal to take home. Josh is with me now. I think your reaction

:27:51.:27:54.

to that was a bit of disappointment, but what now? Very disappointed but

:27:55.:28:00.

it has sunk in, slowly, that I have an Olympic medal. This is a dream

:28:01.:28:07.

country. I didn't think it could happen, man, so I am grateful and

:28:08.:28:12.

happy. I mentioned your knockouts early on, it is quite rare in

:28:13.:28:16.

Olympic boxing. You don't have head guards. Quite rare. I'm happy that I

:28:17.:28:22.

was able to display that I can punch at that level. People in Britain

:28:23.:28:27.

know that I can do it but for it to happen at international level, I'm

:28:28.:28:30.

glad that the world has a chance to see it. You have impressed some big

:28:31.:28:35.

names, Floyd Mayweather I understand is a big fan of yours. Yeah I saw

:28:36.:28:40.

him and I thought, everyone is sitting down but I must get a photo,

:28:41.:28:45.

Mayweather is the greatest athlete that I've met. I got a photo and he

:28:46.:28:50.

said he had heard about me, two spectacular knockouts, that's a good

:28:51.:28:54.

thing and to hear that from my idol, that was amazing. We are looking at

:28:55.:29:00.

the second knockout here. Do you know when you landed that it will

:29:01.:29:05.

do? That's the first one and the second one was against the world

:29:06.:29:07.

number six, so that's what made people think that this kid is

:29:08.:29:12.

special. I'm grateful that I could display that at this stage. The

:29:13.:29:16.

interesting thing with the change of rules is that you can turn

:29:17.:29:19.

professional and fight in the Olympics. What are your options?

:29:20.:29:25.

Really to have a break. I haven't looked beyond this point. This was

:29:26.:29:29.

the final stop for me. Why have to have a break and see what I'm doing

:29:30.:29:35.

next. I was asking Marcus and Chris how they started playing badminton,

:29:36.:29:39.

what about you? My best friend, Shane Sobers, who is in Brazil with

:29:40.:29:46.

me. We tried it on, we were sparring, he manoeuvred everyone and

:29:47.:29:49.

I thought, you know what, give me six weeks and I'm going to learn it.

:29:50.:30:00.

Getting the chance for him to admit that I came back and beat him up!

:30:01.:30:03.

Shane has bought me along with my training. And also the national

:30:04.:30:09.

lottery, without them I wouldn't be a full-time athlete and wouldn't be

:30:10.:30:11.

able to live and breathe boxing, How much support are you able to

:30:12.:30:21.

give to the other boxers? Did you watch Nicola Adams? I went to watch

:30:22.:30:25.

it, I was rooting for her. We have Joe Johnson in the semifinals as

:30:26.:30:30.

well. I've done my part, I have my medal and I can support the rest.

:30:31.:30:35.

Who has impressed you the most? Impressed me the most, I won't be

:30:36.:30:38.

funny but I've been impressed with what I did myself but I have to say

:30:39.:30:42.

every athlete, we've done well to get to the Olympic Games, to perform

:30:43.:30:47.

at the highest level, so everyone has been good, everyone has been

:30:48.:30:51.

fantastic but I'm grateful that I was able to display and perform the

:30:52.:30:54.

way I have been over the last four fights. The British team have been

:30:55.:30:58.

exceeding expectations. Do you think there is a key to it? Do you think

:30:59.:31:03.

there's greater belief? Did you come out here thinking anything is

:31:04.:31:06.

possible? The training we have put -- been put through, it's time to

:31:07.:31:10.

give credit to the GB boxing team, the staff, the coaches, everyone

:31:11.:31:16.

because they've qualified 12 out of 13 boxers, which not a lot of

:31:17.:31:18.

nations have done and it's a good thing and it shows the programme

:31:19.:31:21.

they have gotten everything they are doing in Sheffield is correct. We

:31:22.:31:29.

wish you well, Josh Buatsi, bronze-medallist. Earlier on we saw

:31:30.:31:33.

Jade Jones win her semifinal in tae kwon do. She could be the next

:31:34.:31:37.

British old medal later tonight. It will be at 2am. This is the second

:31:38.:31:44.

semifinal to decide her opponent, Eva Calvo Gomez from Spain, against

:31:45.:31:46.

Hedaya Wahba Nwaba from Egypt. Hedaya Wahba as a defensive style,

:31:47.:32:08.

very cool under pressure. She is very cool, calm and assesses the

:32:09.:32:15.

whole situation commerce tries to pick off the points. It's a slow and

:32:16.:32:21.

steady start from both fighters. In any fight you want to control the

:32:22.:32:26.

tempo. One of the great things Wahba does it strikes her opponent at into

:32:27.:32:31.

her style of fight, slows it down, takes the sting out of it and when

:32:32.:32:35.

you're not ready, she picks your pocket with the big shots. Yes, I

:32:36.:32:40.

was trying to work that one out, actually. You've hit the nail on the

:32:41.:32:44.

head there. Wahba slowing everything down and if I was Eva Calvo Gomez's

:32:45.:32:50.

coach, I'd be saying get in there, take the fight to her because that's

:32:51.:32:54.

exactly what she's doing, she is slowing it down. Exactly, I think

:32:55.:32:58.

Eva Calvo Gomez is an aggressive fighter, does have a lot of but

:32:59.:33:04.

Wahba is just happy to subdue things. She has silenced the crowd,

:33:05.:33:11.

she has slowed Eva Calvo Gomez down. Sometimes the only way through is to

:33:12.:33:17.

get them rattled a little bit. I think that the tactic here. It would

:33:18.:33:25.

be mine, anyway. Tactics are so crucial here on this one has been a

:33:26.:33:30.

tactical battle. Simple and deadly stalemate but of course the reason

:33:31.:33:34.

for that, you see the gap between them, you see the defence is

:33:35.:33:37.

resolute, you see the reason for that, decades of training, years of

:33:38.:33:42.

effort, you don't want to make a mistake. The Olympic Games final, a

:33:43.:33:46.

big prize as we get into the dying embers of this first round here in

:33:47.:33:51.

the semifinal. We've seen the importance of the collective

:33:52.:33:54.

ambitions, but they could not be separated on the scoreboard. yes,

:33:55.:34:01.

Eva Calvo Gomez trying to find a way through there, she was trying

:34:02.:34:05.

changing her stance, right foot forward, left foot forward, trying

:34:06.:34:09.

to change the position. It was interesting. In any fight, if you

:34:10.:34:14.

have an opening period at 0-0, you find out a lot about your opponent

:34:15.:34:18.

in that time. Yes, she was closed there as well, almost onto the head,

:34:19.:34:23.

almost made connection. So just needs to find the range and she will

:34:24.:34:28.

have it. But she has to be careful, because coming forwards of course,

:34:29.:34:32.

she find herself counter-attacked by Wahba.

:34:33.:34:37.

Critical times here at Carioca Arena 3. Olympic taekwondo is the fair on

:34:38.:34:49.

show. Eva Calvo Gomez, can she makes a big step? As we take the steps up

:34:50.:34:56.

here, the under 57 kilograms semifinal, Spain against Egypt.

:34:57.:35:01.

Hedaya Wahba in red, with the black trousers. Eva Calvo Gomez in blue,

:35:02.:35:07.

with the Spanish flag running down the side of the white taekwondo

:35:08.:35:15.

uniform. That uniform is completed by body armour and had gone, and

:35:16.:35:20.

they have socks on my feet that have sensors in them and they hit with

:35:21.:35:25.

power and impact and it schools automatically. No sign of that just

:35:26.:35:33.

yet. -- was Gore will change automatically. We were saying

:35:34.:35:38.

earlier it will be a 12 point gap that will finish it and also a

:35:39.:35:44.

knockout, as well. I think there's limited chances of seeing either,

:35:45.:35:47.

but they are potential opportunities. On the other side I

:35:48.:35:53.

was about to say actually, one point will win it, won't it, and one point

:35:54.:35:58.

sometimes is what you have got to go for. Totally right, the voice of

:35:59.:36:02.

experience there, you know what it's about to win a fight. You just have

:36:03.:36:06.

to find the right answer at the right time and crucially the style

:36:07.:36:10.

of Hedaya Wahba, doesn't expend a lot of energy which means she can

:36:11.:36:14.

stay focused and it takes a lot of nerves and confidence to just stand

:36:15.:36:18.

there, the Olympic final, the world is watching. And so is Wahba. yes,

:36:19.:36:27.

she's just waiting, isn't she? It looks to me as if she's just looking

:36:28.:36:33.

for that top click to the head. She's got good range, so she can do

:36:34.:36:40.

it. -- a top click. Can Eva Calvo Gomez avoid that? 20 seconds left in

:36:41.:36:50.

the second round here. The gap between the two cannot be bridged.

:36:51.:36:54.

Any chance of a little shot underneath?

:36:55.:36:59.

There is your answer, 0-0, at the end of the second round here. It

:37:00.:37:09.

will be interesting, won't it, to see how this third round will

:37:10.:37:13.

unfold, because now we have watched every third round and everything,

:37:14.:37:18.

things have happened in that third round, so it will be interesting to

:37:19.:37:22.

see now who takes the chances and where the points come from.

:37:23.:37:28.

Absolutely. It's been very little margin between them, there wasn't

:37:29.:37:33.

much between that had shot either. No, there wasn't, they are both

:37:34.:37:37.

going for it, big points for the head shot and just a little bit out

:37:38.:37:39.

of range. The knowledgeable crowd, they

:37:40.:37:54.

understand the importance of this one.

:37:55.:38:00.

Hedaya Wahba, she is in red, going against Eva Calvo Gomez, this is the

:38:01.:38:12.

third and potentially final-round. The Olympic Games final at stake.

:38:13.:38:17.

The final that contains Great Britain's Jade Jones. Who will it be

:38:18.:38:24.

joining her, Wahba will Eva Calvo Gomez? Better faking their from Eva

:38:25.:38:30.

Calvo Gomez, trying to draw out her opponent.

:38:31.:38:36.

That was good defence there, stopped that drop kick coming down. -- chop

:38:37.:38:48.

kick coming down. Good defence with their hands. Good defence with the

:38:49.:38:50.

hands, excellent covering. It would be interesting to know if

:38:51.:39:05.

Jade Jones is watching this. With interest. I'm sure there will be

:39:06.:39:09.

somebody in the GB coaching staff watching for her, she will be

:39:10.:39:13.

resting up, getting ready. Who will be getting ready to face her? A

:39:14.:39:17.

minute left in the third here. This is anybody's match, it just depends

:39:18.:39:23.

who initiates, who takes the chance. Eva Calvo Gomez on the front foot,

:39:24.:39:28.

trying to put some pressure, not Kyong-go on the board, they haven't

:39:29.:39:32.

really got close to going for it here as you do get the feeling that

:39:33.:39:37.

one kick could decide it. Like you are saying, it means they are both

:39:38.:39:43.

going forward, they are just doing enough, just, and just enough

:39:44.:39:49.

sometimes can leave you open. 26 seconds left. This has been a

:39:50.:39:54.

difficult battle for both fighters. 20 seconds now. Who can find a

:39:55.:39:59.

winning shot? Hedaya Wahba, the Egyptian in red, Eva Calvo Gomez,

:40:00.:40:05.

the slightly taller of the two, can she find the tiny margin that will

:40:06.:40:09.

take her into the Olympic Games final? Five seconds to decide. It's

:40:10.:40:15.

going to be a sudden-death golden point round. Whoever scores first

:40:16.:40:21.

will be the winner. Let's see if we can hear the coach in the corner.

:40:22.:40:40.

Control of the distance is so important. The coach advising.

:40:41.:40:50.

SPEAKS SPANISH. Watch for the head shots as well, she will go up high

:40:51.:40:55.

as well, so if you were an athlete here, you've been in an Olympic

:40:56.:40:59.

finals, do you stick, do you twist? Do you go for it, do you stay? It's

:41:00.:41:04.

a difficult one, I was in a world final where I wish I'd gone more for

:41:05.:41:10.

it and so it really is difficult. Do you wait for the mistake, or do you

:41:11.:41:14.

go for it? I think they've got to go forward. Going for a spot in the

:41:15.:41:20.

Olympic Games final, Eva Calvo Gomez against Hedaya Wahba, Egypt against

:41:21.:41:27.

Spain, the first point wins. Almost scoring from Wahba, well covered by

:41:28.:41:33.

Eva Calvo Gomez. Everything at stake here. Almost back kick leg, straight

:41:34.:41:45.

firing into the body armour. Wahba is going for it, taking the fight to

:41:46.:41:51.

Eva Calvo Gomez. Hedaya Wahba hopping forward on the front leg,

:41:52.:41:57.

almost shot to the face there. For Calvo Gomez, into the open stands,

:41:58.:42:05.

tries the hook kick into the body. That -- open stands. It looks like

:42:06.:42:10.

Wahba is being the aggressor but she has to watch the counterattack. The

:42:11.:42:16.

body shot attempt, has to watch the counterattack. A turning kick,

:42:17.:42:19.

almost over committing but crucially, if they do not score,

:42:20.:42:24.

whoever hits the body armour the most and registers, they will take

:42:25.:42:28.

the win, whoever has been the most aggressive. That will be decided by

:42:29.:42:32.

not the judges, but the computer scoring system. So how often have

:42:33.:42:38.

the sensor Sox hit the body armour? The nearest of margins here. Eva

:42:39.:42:41.

Calvo Gomez, the win for Spain! Well, Jones into the final here

:42:42.:43:02.

along with Eva Calvo Gomez, and what a prospect that will be. Wow, talk

:43:03.:43:06.

about leaving it to the last minute. That really was, wasn't it, the last

:43:07.:43:11.

seconds, and I feel for this lady here, Wahba gave it everything, she

:43:12.:43:18.

really did. It was just who hit the target and I said that Wahba was

:43:19.:43:21.

coming forwards and that was always the danger, wasn't it, Eva Calvo

:43:22.:43:26.

Gomez hit the target. Absolutely did, they could not be separated

:43:27.:43:30.

over the course of the six minutes. It took a further minute and a half

:43:31.:43:40.

into the golden point round. That golden score puts her into the gold

:43:41.:43:46.

medal final. CLARE BALDING:

:43:47.:43:49.

So Eva Calvo Gomez will be the opponent for Jade Jones at 2am. As

:43:50.:43:54.

for Jade, this is how she won her semifinal. It was a slightly nervous

:43:55.:43:59.

opening round. But she showed all her class. That's her in red and her

:44:00.:44:05.

experience, to move clear of any threat posed by Nikita Glasnovic.

:44:06.:44:11.

She is nicknamed the head hunter. She won convincingly. To move into

:44:12.:44:15.

the final. Afterwards, Nick Hope spoke to her coach, Paul Green.

:44:16.:44:21.

So far so good but I'm sure you want to push on from there? Yes, Jade has

:44:22.:44:26.

only come for one thing and that's the gold medal. She is prepared well

:44:27.:44:30.

for four years for this. The planning has been meticulous. The

:44:31.:44:34.

intensity of training has been meticulous. She's looking good to go

:44:35.:44:38.

and win. Tell me just how different her mindset is going into these

:44:39.:44:43.

Games compared to four years ago? She has had all this attention on

:44:44.:44:47.

her, everybody raises their game against her? Yes, four years ago she

:44:48.:44:52.

wasn't the one to beat. The Chinese were, the Chinese Taipei, now she is

:44:53.:44:56.

the one to beat, so it's harder going to Games, everyone is looking

:44:57.:45:00.

for strategies to beat her but we've done the homework on all the

:45:01.:45:03.

players, we have known them inside out, we've been mimicking them in

:45:04.:45:09.

all the 57 category and she's ready and prepared. She does take the

:45:10.:45:13.

pressure, but she always rising on -- rises on the occasion and I'm

:45:14.:45:17.

sure she will this afternoon. What will you tell her ahead of the

:45:18.:45:22.

final? I will tell her we're here for the gold medal, simple as that,

:45:23.:45:27.

but to stay on plan and the plan, she has a plan on open and closed

:45:28.:45:32.

stance, she has been working meticulously. We know the girls she

:45:33.:45:36.

is fighting, either Spain or Egypt, we know their strengths, we have to

:45:37.:45:39.

defuse their game and play to our strengths and that is what we will

:45:40.:45:42.

do. The best of luck. That fight will be at 2am. Earlier

:45:43.:45:51.

we showed you the final of the women's ten metres platform diving,

:45:52.:45:56.

the gold and silver went to China with sensational, almost perfect

:45:57.:46:01.

diving. Leon Taylor and Bob Ballard were lost in admiration. For Great

:46:02.:46:06.

Britain's representative, Tonia Couch, a rather disappointing 12th

:46:07.:46:12.

place. Some average diving, some good diving, how would you describe

:46:13.:46:17.

it? The last two days have not really been the best diving for me.

:46:18.:46:22.

I feel a bit gutted. A little bit flat, I gave everything to the

:46:23.:46:28.

synchronised and did well but I didn't come in the individual this

:46:29.:46:32.

time but I made the final, which was my goal. You know, can't take that

:46:33.:46:37.

away. There's a lot we can't take away, you've been at the top of your

:46:38.:46:42.

game for a lot of years but the Chinese girls put on a masterclass

:46:43.:46:45.

and did not leave any room for error. I didn't even watch them,

:46:46.:46:50.

they do it all the time, getting ten all the time, that's what we expect.

:46:51.:47:02.

I focus on myself. I'm always ready for my dive. Talk about the team

:47:03.:47:05.

performance, you're one of the most senior members, you have been the

:47:06.:47:12.

chief cheerleader. Our team has been fantastic. Such a great Bond, one

:47:13.:47:16.

happy family and everyone has been diving so well. Everyone is finished

:47:17.:47:22.

and here to support us, it has been amazing and everyone at home has

:47:23.:47:24.

been fantastic, supporting me so much, so thank you. Thanks, well

:47:25.:47:31.

done. It wasn't to be for Tonia but you could hear how much the support

:47:32.:47:36.

matters. I know that Great Britain's women, who will be in the hockey

:47:37.:47:39.

final this time tomorrow, have appreciated the good luck messages

:47:40.:47:43.

they are getting so we will be nervously watching to see if they

:47:44.:47:48.

can win a gold medal. This is the men's gold-medal match, Belgium into

:47:49.:47:51.

their first final, getting past the Netherlands. Up against Argentina

:47:52.:47:58.

who upset the defending champions, Germany. Argentina leading 3-1. It

:47:59.:48:07.

is the third quarter. COMMENTATOR: Four goals in the first half, very

:48:08.:48:13.

busy, especially for Argentina. The first to strike, Belgium, and then

:48:14.:48:27.

Argentina got one back. The penalty corner specialist then stepped up to

:48:28.:48:32.

get his 11th goal of the Games. Belgium, one, Argentina, free.

:48:33.:48:37.

Inside the first minute of the second half. -- three. Two 15 minute

:48:38.:48:46.

periods to decide who will be the Olympic champion. Neither Belgium

:48:47.:48:50.

nor Argentina have ever won Olympic gold. Your assessment of how things

:48:51.:48:56.

have unfolded? For the neutral it has been exceptional, two teams who

:48:57.:49:01.

are unwilling to sit back, playing to their strengths, delivering time

:49:02.:49:06.

and time again. How the players continue with this physicality,

:49:07.:49:10.

seven Games in 11 days and they are still performing at 100% physically.

:49:11.:49:16.

But as the fatigue creeps in, when do the teams start to make bad

:49:17.:49:20.

decisions and when does the Argentine defence get fractured?

:49:21.:49:26.

Argentina lost two players because of injury and had to bring in two

:49:27.:49:33.

provisional players. They might play just one game and get a gold medal,

:49:34.:49:42.

that's how it works. Germany already with the bronze, having defeated the

:49:43.:49:45.

Netherlands following that penalty shoot out earlier. It's all about

:49:46.:49:51.

the gold now. Argentina with one hand on it, the way the scoreline is

:49:52.:49:55.

and in no rush, but now they make a move. Taken forward by Belgium,

:49:56.:50:06.

attacking the gold to the left. Picked up by Thomas Briels, always

:50:07.:50:12.

exciting to watch. Getting to the edge of the circle.

:50:13.:50:26.

19 years old, Denayer. All the way back to Denayer. He's being given so

:50:27.:50:39.

much time because the Argentine defence is sitting so deep, they are

:50:40.:50:46.

ten yards away. Chance for Belgium. And they get the penalty corner. One

:50:47.:50:51.

of the Argentina players took a fab from a hockey stick in the belly

:50:52.:51:00.

after the attempted shot and there is a team referral. Suggesting that

:51:01.:51:14.

the strike from van Aubel is a fireball. That is a great call if

:51:15.:51:20.

that is the case. At first sight it looked high. Must take into account

:51:21.:51:31.

the fact that the players bend down. No penalty corner after all. Fals

:51:32.:51:38.

hope for Belgium. They go back to their half --. Full stop drilled in

:51:39.:51:44.

hard towards Lopez. From close range he stepped into the tackle. Van

:51:45.:51:51.

Aubel cleverly taking it away from the counterpart to get to the circle

:51:52.:51:57.

and get the shot away. So the video referral that Argentina called was

:51:58.:52:02.

kept which means that they keep their referral option. Aerial ball

:52:03.:52:10.

to the centre of the field, to Ortiz, who is on the scoresheet this

:52:11.:52:11.

evening. Belgium now happy to create the same

:52:12.:52:29.

kind of deep defence that the Argentinians are. They are front

:52:30.:52:33.

marking in the circle rather than back marking. Right on the baseline.

:52:34.:52:39.

Argentina continuing to press forward.

:52:40.:52:47.

For people wondering what Thomas Briels was doing, he fell for the

:52:48.:52:57.

dummy, he was in Croce meaning he couldn't make the tackle. He had to

:52:58.:53:02.

get his body out the way otherwise a penalty corner would have been

:53:03.:53:07.

given. Argentina thrusting forward again. Wild strike, not a bad

:53:08.:53:15.

situation for Callioni, thought he had made contact. A bit of a swing

:53:16.:53:22.

and a mess as -- a mess as the Belgian player got in the way. The

:53:23.:53:27.

danger hasn't received it yet. These crash balls that Argentina like,

:53:28.:53:31.

they thrive on them, players like Callioni like getting on the turf,

:53:32.:53:37.

looking for the tip ins. Break for Belgium. They have it in midfield.

:53:38.:53:47.

Tom Boon, he could turn the game for Belgium if he gets another Guidetti

:53:48.:53:57.

from the penalty corner later. Going back to Luypaert, who is handy with

:53:58.:54:05.

the flick. That was too high for Dohmen to control. The awareness of

:54:06.:54:08.

these players, when the ball goes to a player they must know their next

:54:09.:54:15.

pass. When that went to Luypaert he already knew that had gone down the

:54:16.:54:23.

flank. Argentina have a man down clutching his nose. I think a

:54:24.:54:36.

shoulder went through Rossi. Lukas Rosol is back to his feet. It was

:54:37.:54:47.

his hip, a base to the cheekbone as Truyens stepped in. Belgium with the

:54:48.:54:56.

long korma. Dohmen, all the way back to Van Doran. -- long corner. Taking

:54:57.:55:02.

his opportunity to thread the ball through, hoping to find a team-mate

:55:03.:55:08.

with a chance to put pressure on the Vivaldi, between the sticks for

:55:09.:55:09.

Argentina tonight. Penalty corner awarded for Belgium.

:55:10.:55:27.

Argentina, once again protesting. Are they going upstairs? They are.

:55:28.:55:33.

With the same question I think, lifted ball.

:55:34.:55:41.

Checking to see if the ball is dangerous or not. It isn't pure

:55:42.:55:52.

height, it is about danger. It is a raised ball, but outside the circle.

:55:53.:56:03.

On the edge of the circle. The attackers. It won't be a penalty

:56:04.:56:10.

corner. So it has been lifted by Argentina into the circle. Therefore

:56:11.:56:18.

Belgium are being given a free hit. Does that mean, I'm not sure, does

:56:19.:56:22.

that mean that they keep the referral? I didn't hear that. Mayer,

:56:23.:56:31.

nor did I, so we are in the dark. -- no. I assume that Argentina still

:56:32.:56:35.

have the option but Belgium are continuing to press here. The

:56:36.:56:48.

service is meant for Cosyns but Argentina got a stick in before.

:56:49.:56:59.

Nice pass from Boccard. Hoping to get a return but Argentina break.

:57:00.:57:02.

The Belgian players dropping. Belgium on their way down the right

:57:03.:57:18.

again. It might be too strong. It is, it's behind. Moments ago we saw

:57:19.:57:27.

the coach getting animated on the bench. For me, his vocals will be

:57:28.:57:31.

crucial to the discipline of Argentina. If he gets loud and

:57:32.:57:36.

animated, his players will, and then they get a little bit out of

:57:37.:57:42.

control. We've seen it over the years for Argentina. Discipline is

:57:43.:57:45.

crucial for them to keep the 11 players on the pitch. Striding

:57:46.:57:52.

purposefully downfield, laying it off beautifully. Argentina taking it

:57:53.:57:55.

out of the circle, trying to find a way back in. Taken beautifully, but

:57:56.:58:01.

Boccard with a beautiful tackle. This match will be switching to BBC

final through to its conclusion. Belgium continuing to pick up, to

try and be creative and inventive and get something out of this third

:58:41.:58:41.

quarter. The referee blowing his whistle, we

:58:42.:58:59.

can't hear it over the crowd. The ball was played through the legs of

:59:00.:59:03.

the Belgian defence. In doing so, creating the obstruction.
