Day 13 BBC Two: 22.00-22.30 Olympics

Passions are running high in the gold medal match between Argentina

and Belgium, neither of whom have ever taken the Olympic title in

men's hockey. Welcome to viewers on BBC Two.

This time tomorrow, we will see Great Britain's women in the gold

medal match. I will hand you back now to more commentary, because this

is a fascinating match, Argentina leading 3-1.

COMMENTATOR: Five and a half minutes left in the third period. Belgium

need to score twice to force the penalty shoot out. No extra time. At

the end of the hour, we ghostwritten the penalty shoot out. That happened

earlier today in the bronze medal game -- we go straight to the

penalty shoot. It was Germany that we watched Argentina dominate in the

semifinal. The Germans were unable to find a way through. We didn't

think they could do it against the reigning Olympic champions. They

did, and they are replicating it again tonight. Lucas Vila can't

quite read that one through, but it wasn't far off. Inventive and

creative. The defence shifts with you. As he went, he knew he could

chop it back left to right into the space. A promising move forward for

Argentina's defence has been so alert and awake. Everything that

comes their way, they are dealing with at the moment. No goal. Van

This is where Belgium need pace, through the midfield. Their behalf

to come forwards. I think we are going to see a card, John White

Oh, what I go! What an incredible piece of individual skill from

Boccard. We saw him in the first half take down the overhead and lash

it into the side netting. Not a goal, but with such power. That is

one of the outstanding bits of brilliance of this game so far. Pick

up, looks up, takes it to the air, one touch over, feet round,

shorthand grip. Doesn't have time for a long swing. Look at the foot

rotation here. Bang, past Vivaldi, what a goal! Gauthier Boccard

scoring an astonishing goal. They bit of basketball, a bit of cricket,

a bit of everything there. And that will take us to the end of the third

period. Boccard strikes just before the end of the third quarter.

CLARE BALDING: what a goal that was from Boccard. With 15 minutes left

of this gold medal match, Argentina still lead, but only just. This time

tomorrow, we will have one quarter left of the gold medal match

featuring Great Britain. We will be bringing you live hockey from nine

o'clock on BBC One. Great Britain's women are into the final for the

first time, having beaten New Zealand in the semifinals. They are

up against the Netherlands, who are going for a third consecutive title.

It's a goal for Alex Danson! Great Britain are at the moment the top

team in the Olympic tournament. It is a goal for Great Britain!

Great Britain will go to the Olympic semifinal. They will face New

Great Britain are in the Olympic final.

It will be captain Kate Richardson-Walsh's final

international match as captain, and she has held that post for 13 years.

It was interesting that they celebrated, but only for a short

time before refocusing. The gold is what they want. They picked up a few

knocks in that semifinal. This is a tough sport. Here we go with the

final quarter of the men's gold medal match.

COMMENTATOR: IQ, Clare. What a goal that was just before the end of the

third quarter from Gauthier Boccard. I think that was the best goal I

have seen all tournament. We'll Argentina now be able to show the

patience and the poor is they have shown in other games, or will they

get a wobble with that goal? Will it start to fray them nervous? -- will

it starts to fray them nervous? During the break, we have learned

that the referral we talked about earlier was kept because the

decision was not the penalty corner that was given, so Argentina are

keeping their referral. The national umpires Association told us that.

throughout the game between the umpires on the field and upstairs

and into our headsets. It has not been up to its normal standards.

Mazzilli putting pressure on again, coming back after his two-minute

suspension. His legs will be fractionally fresher.

Whilst Lopez was trying to hold a static position, he was still moving

into that area of contact with the full-back. If one of the players had

been static, they would have been given the decision.

The aerial escape route is utilised once again. He took a knock. The

cast on his foot suggests some kind of break. He twisted his ankle badly

during the semifinal. It was nice that he could hobble out to join the

celebrations when he knew he and Argentina were guaranteed medals. He

will get a medal. He has been replaced, but there will be medals

awarded to all those that have taken part.

What a goal it was from Gauthier Boccard. They need a bit more magic

like that, Belgium, to get back in this match and get level with

Argentina and force a frantic ten minutes or so. It is such a

difficult balance, the patients that Belgium have two show. If they force

the ball into the circle when Argentina are static, they will turn

it over and be susceptible to the counter. They were patient to get

the ball to Boccard, but they have to recognise that it was an

incredible bit of skill that created the goal. It was only the patience

that created the position from which he ran. Good running here from

Belgium. With Argentina in absolutely no

hurry. Aerial ball again. The whistle had gone before he released.

Agustin Mazzilli was setting up for the shot. He is tapping his stick as

if to say that was what stopped it. John Wright blew the whistle

immediately. A man of his experience reads the players and how they react

to situations. Ten minutes left in the Olympic final.

The Argentina defenders, hopping and jumping their way out of trouble.

A huge chunk of space on the left, but it was closed down quickly by

Ignacio Ortiz. The adrenaline will now keep the Argentinian front line

running. They need to be careful. If they step to four on that front

Argentina returned the compliment, high and long and out of play. More

seconds wiped off the time and more singing with the Argentina

supporters. Gauthier Boccard who scored a brilliant goal brings it to

his captain, John-John Dohmen, can he play a pot in getting Belgium

level in the last six minutes? A collision, but play continues. That

Asking for a corner, looks like it. The umpires are talking to each

other. Not five metres has been called by John Wright and the

penalty corner has been awarded to Belgium. We see the free hit, free

hit is given at some point there. Now there is the run and that is the

tackle that is not five metres away and the players not making any

effort to back away. So the options for Belgium here are

lower Clyde Park, number 25, tangy cousins, prepared to execute the

drag flick. This injection, pushed away, no luck for Belgium, Belgium

two, Argentina three. They went to the Flippin. It was a straight

dragged in from Luypaert. He has too much and it is deflected away.

Argentina are now heading towards the Belgium circle. Another goal

would put this beyond doubt. The thing that is really difficult for

these players in this cauldron of noises to hear the whistle. The

umpires will have to be a bit sympathetic because the players may

not hear it when they blow and so the ball may get knocked away. They

will have to be really smart and use their experience to read what the

players are doing, deliberately or not. Argentina are aware of the

danger from Gauthier Boccard. Pushed away by Vivaldi. Did he just touch

that there was open legs and pivot and snatch clear in his own circle?

Gauthier Boccard heads back to Felix Denayer. Not a great piece of skill.

For a moment that it looked as though Tom Boon might take it all

away and have a shot. They are asking for video referral,

saying it had to foot in the circle but for me Tom Boon had a swing and

miss but is it dangerous? They are asking for danger, so Boone

has taken it to the air in a swing and a miss but nobody has reacted to

it. It is thought. Now it is that they are asking for danger. No doubt

there is an Argentina foot on the ball. The swing from Tom bone, he

does swing and he does miss, but doesn't create any danger? No

defender to me moves or flinches. I have a decision, a penalty corner,

no danger. No danger. No danger seen by the umpire upstairs and so

Belgium have a penalty corner. This time Tom bone is available to the

Mansi could be the man to change things for Belgium here. Here's the

The conversation we had moments ago was that the question asked was

Vanasch. The goalkeeper is heading on and Belgium are bringing an extra

outfield player and taking Vincent Vanasch off the pitch. They will be

without a goalkeeper for the last two minutes of the gold-medal match.

Belgium have to be so confident and just play with the back story. When

they play with an extra man the danger is you are resident and you

don't flow the extra forward. Belgium have three or four men in

the circle. Here is Luypaert with the green shirt on.

Van Doren shuffles forward and it goes back to Luypaert. Into the

circle, turn and shot. Good work from Vivaldi. He has been called

upon plenty in this final quarter. The Argentina goalkeeper and the

pressure is alleviated one more time. Vivaldi makes a scramble

saving front of his goal. What a spin in front of the circle from

Sebastien Dockier to get to the goal. Our commentary position is

shaking out. There is noise and excitement being generated by the

supporters in blue and white who are under two minutes away from

celebrating Argentina 's third gold-medal of the Rio 2016 Olympic

Games. They denied the might of the Germans and the blue-and-white

defence stood firm in the semifinal and can now keep its shape and can

they suggest that putting 11 men in the circle and retain the ball?

Belgium again, as Argentina come away down the left side. The whistle

was blown, although we didn't hear it amongst the cacophony of noise.

It is for Argentina 's benefit. That is wasted 20 seconds in a passage of

play. Argentina will throw this away as far from their goal as they can.

Gauthier Boccard pushes it forward. No way through. Now it is taken up.

It came off a Belgium foot up according to the umpire. We are into

the last 60 seconds of the Olympic final. Lucas Rossi ran his socks off

in the second half. He is a big man, big unit. Argentina imposition --

Argentina in possession. 30 seconds left on the clock.

Oh, there is a wide-open goal here. There it is! Sits down in the goal,

4-2. It was Agustin Mazzilli who has the simplest of opportunities

presented to him by the lack of Belgian goalkeeper. It is all over

now, Belgium are fading -- heading for a referral because they might as

well, I guess, but I don't quite know what their complaint might be.

I have no idea, it is just a poor choice of pass from bottom left and

went for the weight than they had to go natural and Lowick Luypaert just

doesn't execute. The suggestion is stick obstruction that is what they

are asking about. They have gone upstairs. There is a suggestion that

Luypaert -- that Agustin Mazzilli leads with his stick but it is not

the case. Great celebrations for Carlos Lochte gay, and all around

the Olympic hockey Stadium the blue and white fans and banners are

jumping for joy. It is one of those risks, you go to know goalkeeper and

someone executes poorly and that is all there was left. There was

nothing Luypaert could do, he had to try and get across fields, the last

three seconds and Argentina can celebrate at last. They are the

Olympic hockey champions, with 4-2 victory over Belgium. What a final

that was! Argentina start to celebrate in style on and off the

field. Their injured player, Mateus Paredes is on to join the

celebrations and he will get an Olympic gold medal as well. Silver

will be scant consolation at the moment for Belgium. Possibly once

the moment sinks in and they take their place on the podium. Gauthier

Boccard had his time with a fabulous piece of individual skill to get

Belgium 's second goal, but it is Argentina 's gold. They have played

to their strengths and created goals. They have been exceptional

throughout the whole competition and they have simply set their platform.

Yes, they went a goal down but they had the intensity to come back and

the belief to come back to create those three goals that meant they

could play to the defensive strength and they didn't need to push forward

and Belgium could come onto them and they have delivered.

This is the way it unfolded. Cosyns was the first to strike. There was a

magnificent goal from Gauthier Boccard, second for Belgium and it

was one of the highlights of this gold-medal match, but unfortunately

it was not enough for Belgium and it is Argentina 's Olympic time.

A third gold at these Olympic Games for Argentina. You can see how many

Del Potro and they were celebrated at night but they are a, their first

Olympic title in men's hockey at this time tomorrow we will know who

will be champions in the women's game. Simon will be there. Do you

have any updates on the injuries British players sustained in the

semifinal? We saw Crista Cullen come back onto

the field with eight stitches and we saw Georgie Twigg step back in with

the ball to her face, the one person we don't know about right now is

Helen Richardson-Walsh, we don't know, we saw her limp off after

scoring a penalty stroke. The camp is pretty closed, they have been so

tight in the competition that we have heard nothing so we cannot

update you on that but the two players that got knocks and came

back on I believe will be fit and raring to go. In terms of Olympic

history you would make the Netherlands favourites because they

are going to a third title. Who do you think is playing better? I have

to go with Great Britain. They have had seven wins. They have played

fantastically and consistently which is the key to winning. It is just

important that you have belief and you place your strengths so you can

deliver our last meaningful results. That is women's hockey gold medal

match will be one of the highlights of tomorrow and it will be live on

BBC One. The women have never been in the

final of the hockey before so make sure that you and all of your
