And Skrela, she has four points in this game, from free throws. She's

:00:00.:00:17.

basically in this game for the defence, not the offence. Only 50%

:00:18.:00:25.

from the line overall in this tournament. Maybe she had some

:00:26.:00:26.

practice at half-time! Novakovich that was the third file.

:00:27.:00:41.

Novakovich may be going to the bench. -- that was the third foul.

:00:42.:00:53.

She played well after the disappointing performance in the

:00:54.:00:56.

semifinals to come out and pick it up again. She has been such a key

:00:57.:01:01.

figure for Serbia in the Olympic Games. She plays so actively. She

:01:02.:01:09.

has a great hook shot that she uses very well. This is Petra Fitch.

:01:10.:01:28.

Plays France's knocking the ball loose but cannot get possession. --

:01:29.:01:37.

that is twice that France has knocked the ball loose.

:01:38.:01:58.

35-33. Brilliant shot from Epoupa. She is really penetrating the

:01:59.:02:10.

Serbian defence. The Serbian intensity cannot handle how Epoupa

:02:11.:02:17.

drives. Page now finding her offensive game as well. Epoupa is

:02:18.:02:25.

the leading rebounder. She knows how to position herself. Petrovic

:02:26.:02:35.

controlled it nicely. Serbia go back on top. Great work by Petrovic. Both

:02:36.:02:43.

teams are still defending well. In this quarter the offences are

:02:44.:02:54.

firing. There was a link to the basket, but it was not

:02:55.:03:01.

-- not taken. We're half way through the third quarter.

:03:02.:03:21.

She draws the foul. Fans up by one. Half way through the third quarter.

:03:22.:03:37.

I felt that she had plenty of room near. The Serbian defence has been

:03:38.:03:42.

opened up. It was so intense, aggressive, and they are really

:03:43.:03:46.

pushing France hard. But they have found the way to the basket.

:03:47.:03:57.

The French line-up is moving quickly up and down the court.

:03:58.:04:07.

Halfway through the third quarter. France have their biggest lead of

:04:08.:04:11.

the game. Page went down. This will be a high-scoring quarter

:04:12.:04:29.

because both teams are over half of what they achieved in the previous

:04:30.:04:31.

two. Epoupa had a clean look at the

:04:32.:04:48.

basket, and the rebound came out. Petrovic putting more pressure on

:04:49.:05:32.

the French. She got the foul. France were on top, but in the last couple

:05:33.:05:38.

of minutes, Serbia have pushed hard. The outscoring France now.

:05:39.:05:47.

When they play set piece, they are forcing turnovers.

:05:48.:06:06.

The file will be on Epoupa for holding back Petrovic. Petrovic was

:06:07.:06:17.

gone. It would have been two points. They should have played on. This is

:06:18.:06:25.

exactly the reason the rule was brought in, I believe, for

:06:26.:06:27.

unsportsmanlike conduct. That was a certain two points that

:06:28.:06:40.

Epoupa stopped intentionally. Serbia will keep possession. She

:06:41.:07:09.

wants a time-out. She had just substituted Johannes in. They have

:07:10.:07:15.

fallen behind now. They had their best run of play in the game for

:07:16.:07:18.

about three minutes of that quarter. surprised that Yacoubou is not in.

:07:19.:07:50.

Serbia respect her too much -- have to respect. Serbia, the momentum had

:07:51.:07:56.

completely shifted towards them, so it was the right moment for a

:07:57.:08:06.

time-out. This was another key point for Serbia. Then Petrovic also

:08:07.:08:13.

provided an unstoppable insight. You're right about Yacoubou, she has

:08:14.:08:16.

to come out here for the last few minutes because we do not want

:08:17.:08:18.

Serbia to get too much of a lead. The signal came from across the

:08:19.:08:48.

court. The referee on that site did not signal. She had her foot on the

:08:49.:08:57.

line anyway. From our point it is hard to see where the fit is. To

:08:58.:09:05.

have this at this point in the game is looking good for the Serbian

:09:06.:09:09.

team. France have come from behind already. They were down ten in the

:09:10.:09:15.

first quarter. They came and took the lead.

:09:16.:09:36.

The rebound went to Petrovic. Yacoubou is already making a

:09:37.:09:42.

difference. Forcing the defence further back. Petrovic! This is just

:09:43.:09:51.

like the start of the game. Good defence but good shooting by Serbia.

:09:52.:09:55.

The quality of shooting is extraordinary. As soon as they make

:09:56.:10:01.

one, it seems like everyone in the team starts making them, and it

:10:02.:10:02.

builds confidence. It just missed the basket, and there

:10:03.:10:23.

goes my theory about the different size of baskets.

:10:24.:10:36.

Another turnover. Under two minutes to play in this quarter.

:10:37.:10:50.

Yacoubou knocked it away and put her hands behind her back. As if she

:10:51.:11:01.

felt guilty about it. Serbia and looking good. They turned it on at

:11:02.:11:07.

an important moment in the game. It looked like France were getting on

:11:08.:11:11.

top. The shooting from Serbia has been fantastic. What a performer.

:11:12.:11:17.

Page always delivers. Defensively excellent.

:11:18.:11:33.

It is catch and shoot, basically. There it is.

:11:34.:11:46.

1.5 minutes to go. A good chance to give Page arrest. -- eight breast.

:11:47.:12:14.

-- rest. Almost three within that period, the Serbian defences

:12:15.:12:19.

overplaying the ball and getting away with it constantly because they

:12:20.:12:25.

are overplaying the second pass as well. This time they have done it

:12:26.:12:34.

with Yacoubou out there. The pressure when they receive the ball

:12:35.:12:38.

was extraordinary. That is what is giving them so many possessions.

:12:39.:12:46.

Epoupa is having arrest. Under one minute to play.

:12:47.:13:01.

She was so quick to pass the ball. She had so much time. They could

:13:02.:13:13.

have worked it. France just cannot see it coming, they cannot seem to

:13:14.:13:14.

adjust. Another foul. The Serbians have not

:13:15.:13:42.

given away too many fouls in this quarter, despite the pressure. The

:13:43.:13:48.

French started making foul shots as the Serbians stopped. At very good

:13:49.:13:54.

point. I do not know of that is intentional!

:13:55.:14:09.

Page had about a minute breast. I thought she would sit out, but she

:14:10.:14:24.

does not. She says, that is all I need!

:14:25.:14:34.

Interesting that during the time-outs Milovanovic translates for

:14:35.:14:55.

Page. That is a big basket for France, they have been able to do

:14:56.:14:58.

nothing offensively in the last two minutes of the quarter. That was bad

:14:59.:15:00.

defence. And Johannes! Off the boards. The

:15:01.:15:20.

score at the end of three quarters, 55-42, Serbia with a commanding

:15:21.:15:22.

lead. STUDIO

:15:23.:15:32.

So, the third quarter went Serbia's way, as did the fourth. They went on

:15:33.:15:39.

to win that one by 70 points to 63 and Serbia get themselves onto the

:15:40.:15:45.

medal podium. They will be joined by USA and Spain, who play the

:15:46.:15:47.

gold-medal match a little bit later on. That is the end of the

:15:48.:15:56.

basketball. Things have got a little bit drizzly here at the Olympic

:15:57.:16:02.

Park, which is drizzly but we won't be disappointed on my last day. I'm

:16:03.:16:06.

just going to take in these views of the limbic Park one more time. The

:16:07.:16:16.

Aquatic Centre, Cariocas, the Velodrome, what memories we had

:16:17.:16:22.

there, and Rio 2016 has been a huge joy to do. -- the Olympic Park. A

:16:23.:16:28.

huge thank you to Tim, Josh, James, Alan, don't leave me hanging! Alan,

:16:29.:16:36.

it's been an absolute pleasure. Dan Walker, I know it's your last show

:16:37.:16:41.

here at Rio 2016. Keep the tissues handy! No time to say goodbye yet,

:16:42.:16:48.

we've got hours and hours until two o'clock in the morning. It must be

:16:49.:16:54.

very difficult to deal with when things are happening behind you

:16:55.:16:57.

which you can't quite see! May be a bit more of that later on. Thank you

:16:58.:17:01.

very much. We are with you on BBC Four until two o'clock in the

:17:02.:17:05.

morning. It's our final day on the beach and we have got loads to pack

:17:06.:17:09.

in. We will try to revisit some of the moments you have enjoyed over

:17:10.:17:13.

the past two weeks of these Olympic Games, and we have all this on the

:17:14.:17:15.

way. Can Brazil win the gold they want

:17:16.:17:25.

more than any other? The men's football final between Brazil and

:17:26.:17:29.

Germany. The host nation have never won gold in this event. The American

:17:30.:17:35.

women have won five golds in a row in the basketball. Cancer

:17:36.:17:42.

-- can Spain spring a surprise? Finals night in the men's water polo

:17:43.:17:50.

too, Croatia and Serbia will both be going for gold. And it is final day

:17:51.:17:57.

of the women's volleyball. Repair for some spiky action as the medals

:17:58.:18:04.

are sorted out. Let's have a look at the timetable for this evening, as

:18:05.:18:07.

we stare across the Copacabana once more. Basketball 7:30pm, USA against

:18:08.:18:15.

Spain. On BBC One, the final of the men's ten-metre platform diving.

:18:16.:18:19.

Sadly Tom Daley not involved in that. Tae kwon do, the 80 kilograms

:18:20.:18:29.

quarterfinal is at 8:15pm. And Bianca Walkden, Jade Jones's

:18:30.:18:34.

flatmate, at 8:30pm. The first half of the men's gold-medal match

:18:35.:18:42.

between Brazil and Germany at 9:30pm. Last night Rio went wild

:18:43.:18:49.

again as Usain Bolt became the triple, triple Olympic champion,

:18:50.:18:52.

winning the four by one relay to add to the 200 and 100 relay here in

:18:53.:19:00.

Rio. They absolutely love him here. Tonight we have a man who could do

:19:01.:19:04.

the double double. You all know his name. It's Mo Farah.

:19:05.:19:09.

The 5000 and 10,000 metre longest journeys of the track. Lap after

:19:10.:19:20.

lap, again and again. Names that sit in the memory, Bekele, Haile Gebre

:19:21.:19:27.

Selassie, it appeared so simple to all of them but that these is a lie.

:19:28.:19:35.

With that fluent keys in the race itself comes pain. Even those greats

:19:36.:19:40.

had limits. Only one other man has before done the double double. Come

:19:41.:19:45.

through that pain to success on the other side. And then four years

:19:46.:19:54.

later, he did it again. COMMENTATOR: Viren defends the title

:19:55.:20:01.

again! They are not going to beat him! The flying Finn of the 1970s of

:20:02.:20:10.

me and Dec space Munich and Montreal. And now, now there is

:20:11.:20:15.

more. Trying to match the feet of Viren and earning comparisons with

:20:16.:20:21.

the best of the past. But how to compare two men 40 years apart? Was

:20:22.:20:26.

Viren's feat grades are having to pass through sapping heat before he

:20:27.:20:31.

could race for gold over two distances. And Mo Farah already has

:20:32.:20:36.

a double double, of world titles, but that is a prize created after

:20:37.:20:41.

Viren's time. So don't compare, simply admire. With the very best,

:20:42.:20:46.

we perhaps lose our perspective. Too much success and it is diminished.

:20:47.:20:53.

More somehow makes it less. But remember the line, this is never

:20:54.:20:59.

easy. Only near the end, when the prize is near, do we see that mask

:21:00.:21:04.

slip, and the pain and effort that lies beneath. The effort that brings

:21:05.:21:11.

Mo Farah close to Viren in the past and Olympic gold again and again,

:21:12.:21:14.

one more time. 1:30am your time back in the UK over

:21:15.:21:28.

on BBC One. You can see if Mo Farah can add to the goal he already has

:21:29.:21:32.

in these games, and can hit repeat the amazing feat of a double

:21:33.:21:35.

gold-medal four years ago in London? The great hopes from a Team GB

:21:36.:21:40.

perspective for Tom Daley as well. Already a bronze-medallist in these

:21:41.:21:44.

Olympic Games and he was trying to do something from the ten-metre

:21:45.:21:48.

platform individually. Yesterday there were the preliminaries and it

:21:49.:21:52.

looked so hopeful. We saw him on BBC Four. His best performance in a long

:21:53.:21:57.

time and today it was that any final. This will be described for us

:21:58.:21:59.

by Leon Taylor and Bob Ballard. COMMENTATOR: The men's semifinal of

:22:00.:22:09.

the ten-metre platform. The first dive for Tom Daley, the man who led

:22:10.:22:13.

for four out of six rounds in the preliminaries. Not as good as

:22:14.:22:20.

yesterday but it is good enough. I would like to see him not quite as

:22:21.:22:24.

good in this semifinal. I want to see him good, diving well, but just

:22:25.:22:30.

backing off the gas. Round two, let's see what he can do with this

:22:31.:22:36.

3.6 dive. Oh! It's not unusual to see an error on this, this is his

:22:37.:22:40.

newest dive, not the rotational speed he's used to, drops a bit like

:22:41.:22:47.

a stone. On to round three and if this goes well, he will rocket up

:22:48.:22:51.

the standings. Tom needs to get moving. No. Not yet. He is way off

:22:52.:23:03.

the standings at the moment. Round four. He is 18th, Tom Daley. 18th of

:23:04.:23:17.

18. He scored 103 in the prelims. This is not as good but it is an

:23:18.:23:20.

improvement and that is what we want to see. 18 points he has to make up

:23:21.:23:28.

to get back into the top 12. It is achievable but it is going to take

:23:29.:23:33.

some doing. OK, the reparation job has do start here and has to start

:23:34.:23:38.

with this. Yesterday he got tens on this dive. Tom Daley, to get himself

:23:39.:23:43.

out of the mire. That's going to help. That's going to help a lot.

:23:44.:23:47.

But we are still way in the danger zone. So, here we go with round six.

:23:48.:23:57.

Final round of the semifinal. Tom Daley, it's down to you. Do you have

:23:58.:24:03.

what it takes to get 101 points, to get level 12th. The biggest dive of

:24:04.:24:12.

your life. Right now. No. That's it. Unbelievable. He did not predict

:24:13.:24:17.

this. Tom Daley winning by a country mile yesterday. Today at the

:24:18.:24:23.

semifinals, not making it through. What an awful date out there for

:24:24.:24:27.

Tom. Of course, and Olympic bronze-medallist in the sink with

:24:28.:24:32.

Dan Goodfellow, no one can take that away from him, but he will be

:24:33.:24:36.

devastated. Tom Daley finishes in 18th place, what a reversal of

:24:37.:24:40.

fortunes, yesterday the best and today the worst.

:24:41.:24:45.

Commiserations, Tom. We can see what it means to you. Great day

:24:46.:24:50.

yesterday, wasn't quite kicking today, what happened? I've worked so

:24:51.:24:55.

hard these past four years to get to this point today. Yesterday I got an

:24:56.:25:00.

Olympic record. The highest score in an Olympic Games. Today it just

:25:01.:25:03.

wasn't meant to be and that is just what diving does sometimes. I truly

:25:04.:25:08.

am heartbroken because I really feel like I am in the peak physical

:25:09.:25:12.

condition and I could really go out there and I could have won tonight.

:25:13.:25:15.

It's really, really hard to accept what happened today. Your team-mates

:25:16.:25:21.

would argue that this is the most stressful sport, the most high

:25:22.:25:24.

pressure. Add to that your profile and the expectation. What is going

:25:25.:25:28.

through your head when you get up on the board? When I get up on the

:25:29.:25:32.

board I'm completely present in the moment and enjoying each moment as I

:25:33.:25:36.

get to do it. But today, things just want clicking. I was giving it my

:25:37.:25:40.

all and I was ready up for it. Training was re-good. In the

:25:41.:25:42.

competition it just fell apart. Those other guys do they did

:25:43.:25:57.

absolutely amazing. I'm so happy with the way that Team GB have done

:25:58.:26:00.

in these Olympic Games. It makes me so proud to be part of Team GB and

:26:01.:26:03.

how everyone else has done amazingly well. I just wanted to replicate

:26:04.:26:06.

some of last night but it wasn't meant to be. Was there anything

:26:07.:26:12.

different today? I felt good in myself, I guess my mind and body

:26:13.:26:17.

weren't connecting. I knew that I had a shot on the last dive if I

:26:18.:26:22.

really went after it. I needed 102, I was working out, which was

:26:23.:26:28.

basically 9.5s and tens, and I gave it my all but it just didn't happen

:26:29.:26:32.

today. But it did happen last week, you've already got a bronze medal

:26:33.:26:35.

from these Olympics, so not a write-off by any stretch of the

:26:36.:26:40.

imagination! Successful in that sense. You know what, I am happy.

:26:41.:26:44.

After 2012 I came away with the bronze medal and now I've got a

:26:45.:26:49.

bronze medal in synchro with Dan. I just wanted to get that Olympic Gold

:26:50.:26:53.

Medal this time around. But there's always another four years. So Tokyo

:26:54.:26:59.

is definitely in your sites? Tokyo is definitely my sites, more than

:27:00.:27:04.

ever now! Tom, you've done so much for the profile of the sport and you

:27:05.:27:08.

have an army of fans and rightly so. I can see why you're upset but

:27:09.:27:11.

there's no reason to be too heartbroken. Wang Q. It's just

:27:12.:27:15.

heartbreaking because it's the Olympic Games and those five rings

:27:16.:27:19.

on the wall mean so much to me. To be not in the final to get the shot

:27:20.:27:23.

to go for that medal, it's just heartbreaking. It's a good story,

:27:24.:27:31.

isn't it, for Tokyo? You know films, give it an even better narrative!

:27:32.:27:34.

I'm going to give it my best shot and work even harder than ever

:27:35.:27:38.

before. Another one of those interviews, really difficult to

:27:39.:27:41.

watch, just like Lutalo Muhammad yesterday. He is trying to smile and

:27:42.:27:45.

deal with it, trying his best to deal with it and we just hope that

:27:46.:27:49.

Tom Daley can come back and perform again on the lead big stage. We will

:27:50.:27:53.

keep an eye on him over the next few days and hopefully get more reaction

:27:54.:27:57.

the days after he has not managed to qualify for the final of the diving.

:27:58.:28:02.

For every story of triumph and disaster, we will probably see Tom

:28:03.:28:06.

Daley in Tokyo in four years' time, there is a story like Mo Farah. He

:28:07.:28:14.

won his Gold Medal to add to the two that he won in London four years

:28:15.:28:19.

ago. These two, mother and daughter, were there. What was it like?

:28:20.:28:23.

Absolutely fantastic. We've been lucky enough to see him run in World

:28:24.:28:28.

Championships. We didn't get to see him run in London, so it was

:28:29.:28:32.

fantastic to see him over here. Adelaide is 14 and what number

:28:33.:28:36.

Olympic Games is this for you? It is my fourth! Your first one was at the

:28:37.:28:43.

age of two? Yes, I went to Athens, Beijing, London and now Rio. So, of

:28:44.:28:49.

those four Olympic Games, can you remember what happened at the age of

:28:50.:28:55.

two? Not really! I get the feeling your mum is trying to drag you into

:28:56.:28:59.

the Olympic experience, is that what it's all about, Tracy? When you

:29:00.:29:03.

watch someone who has prepared for years in a sporting endeavour, it

:29:04.:29:06.

teaches you a lot about striving to reach a goal and I think that is

:29:07.:29:10.

really important for them. As well as being on holiday, they are being

:29:11.:29:13.

people who have worked really hard to achieve what they want to

:29:14.:29:16.

achieve, so it's a good life lesson as well. I've also heard that you

:29:17.:29:21.

are the British family that gave Mo Farah his flag after he won gold the

:29:22.:29:25.

other night in the 10,000 metres. You haven't got it back? We haven't

:29:26.:29:30.

got it back! At the World Championship last year the women's

:29:31.:29:34.

4x400 metres asked for our flag and I was appalled because our flag was

:29:35.:29:38.

filthy, it was at the end of the session, it had ice cream and

:29:39.:29:42.

sweat... Don't tell me you prepare it, did you wash it it just in case?

:29:43.:29:48.

I've watched our spare one this morning in case we have the same

:29:49.:29:52.

incident again, because it's the end of the Olympics, our flag is filthy,

:29:53.:29:55.

so we've watched it again just in case Mo Farah blacks

:29:56.:30:00.

-- Mo Farah asks for our flag! We're now down to two, if he asks for one,

:30:01.:30:11.

we have got it! This is very careful planning. Adelaide, have you got the

:30:12.:30:14.

same seeds as the other night? I don't think so. At your near enough

:30:15.:30:23.

to throw a flag! Yeah! We will make sure we're close enough to throw the

:30:24.:30:26.

flag. I can see the determined look in your eyes. All mums can be

:30:27.:30:32.

embarrassing at times, Adelaide, we know this. Yak a lot!

:30:33.:30:40.

Is there anything written on your flag? It is the athletics club flag,

:30:41.:30:49.

and that is hanging, and we will throw a Team GB flag of get the

:30:50.:30:54.

chance. We will watch out for you tonight. Enjoy your time on the

:30:55.:30:58.

beach and the athletics tonight. We will take you over to basketball. As

:30:59.:31:02.

promised we will bring you USA against Spain in the gold-medal

:31:03.:31:07.

match. I will hand you over to the commentators.

:31:08.:31:22.

This strategy, it is kind of football orientated. Good defensive

:31:23.:32:02.

intensity. Charles gets the past. That one will go out of bounds. For

:32:03.:32:38.

the United States they are already getting offensively bands. Spain

:32:39.:32:39.

have got to keep an eye on this. The referee was having a word with

:32:40.:33:07.

the officials, who signalled 2-1. The US keep possession. Bird did not

:33:08.:33:11.

step out. The referee was checking something with the scorer bench.

:33:12.:33:20.

Nichols is fighting for position against Griner. Spain got exactly

:33:21.:33:44.

what they needed in the opening minute and a half. And I wondered if

:33:45.:33:50.

the United States have ever gone this long without scoring in a game!

:33:51.:34:10.

Excuse me, Taurasi pushed. If you're going to play like this, you can put

:34:11.:34:31.

in as much effort as you can, but she does it all.

:34:32.:34:53.

Charles Hecht. 5-2. 2.5 gone in the first period. Charles is wearing a

:34:54.:35:00.

protective shield for her nose. It was too high. It will go to the

:35:01.:35:22.

United States. She turned to her team-mate and said you need to move.

:35:23.:35:27.

To get the passing going, there has to be movement. Torrens will be

:35:28.:35:41.

called for the foul. United States are starting to get into the rhythm.

:35:42.:35:54.

Torrens and Bird are team-mates. That shot by Charles was way short.

:35:55.:36:12.

That has to be reset of the clock. That can be reviewed under the new

:36:13.:36:26.

rules. No question, it hit the ring. But no, it goes to Spain. United

:36:27.:36:32.

States at dominating the fence aboard right now. They have been

:36:33.:36:38.

given some chances. -- dominating defence.

:36:39.:36:53.

No violation this time. The referee is very quick. As soon as they see

:36:54.:37:03.

any hand going in there, the whistle blows. Luckily for the United States

:37:04.:37:06.

they were not really heard by that call on the 24 second.

:37:07.:37:26.

Torrens got the foul. She had to drag it along. That is the president

:37:27.:37:32.

of the IOC, sitting with Adam Silver, the commissioner of the

:37:33.:37:41.

basketball Association in the US. Driving into traffic. The United

:37:42.:37:45.

States have a big height advantage, but this is how you get around it,

:37:46.:37:48.

put up these efforts. She's shielding the ball with her body.

:37:49.:37:56.

Four minutes gone in the first feeding -- period. She looked as if

:37:57.:38:07.

to say, how can you even think they would call a foul on me? It Spain

:38:08.:38:16.

can keep this law, they have a real opportunity.

:38:17.:38:30.

The United States have only shot less than 100 points on two

:38:31.:38:41.

occasions, and that was against France and Canada, and the French

:38:42.:38:54.

pushed them early on. Griner gets it, and this thing she gets the

:38:55.:38:58.

foul. There was nobody between her and the basket. That is the

:38:59.:39:03.

difficulty for Spain, when you have Griner who stands at 638, and the

:39:04.:39:14.

other is six foot five, Ndour, you just do not have that reach. -- when

:39:15.:39:19.

she is six. A foul on Charles. Spain cannot let

:39:20.:39:41.

this deter them. They have to keep putting pressure on the United

:39:42.:39:44.

States when they can. It has been going all right for them so far.

:39:45.:40:10.

Not many teams have led against the United States, and when they have

:40:11.:40:18.

they have been unable to finish. Spain at least have this lead, it is

:40:19.:40:21.

whether they can keep it consistent for the rest of the game.

:40:22.:40:30.

The pass goes beyond Tina Charles's reach. Spain get the ball back just

:40:31.:40:36.

under five minutes to play. Fouled, but I think it went off

:40:37.:41:03.

Bird's fit. A really nice move from Nichols to play it off her opponent.

:41:04.:41:06.

There was nothing else she could do. The file will be on Nichols, who

:41:07.:41:47.

looked to have a good piece of the ball. -- the foul. The only thing

:41:48.:41:55.

Spain will want to improve on as the rebound. Aside from that they are

:41:56.:41:58.

looking really good. If they keep getting the United States second and

:41:59.:42:00.

third attempts, they will punish them. No question about the foul.

:42:01.:42:14.

But she is not the best shooter. They can hear me, I think! They want

:42:15.:42:23.

to prove me wrong. She is the weakest shooter, but that shows how

:42:24.:42:26.

strong the United States are, she is at 61%. And she misses. Spain kept

:42:27.:42:31.

it in. In international basketball you are

:42:32.:42:43.

allowed to sit on the player who is on the floor. Does actually say

:42:44.:42:53.

that? It does not say it, I'm judging by what has happened so far.

:42:54.:42:57.

The possession was with the United States. That will alternate through

:42:58.:42:58.

possessions. She got it back to her. That was not

:42:59.:43:16.

the easiest way, but it worked. It has been taped quarter. That was a

:43:17.:43:29.

beauty. The pass from Palau was outstanding. Bird Nichols is really

:43:30.:43:38.

working hard. -- Nichols is really working hard. Charles went straight

:43:39.:43:56.

into it. Bumped into it. Fowles, I should say. The Spanish are playing

:43:57.:44:03.

tough. They are being physical here, and you have two against the United

:44:04.:44:09.

States team full stop adding excessively, but they have.

:44:10.:44:27.

-- I did not know they could play so aggressively, they have Dominguez

:44:28.:44:44.

has just come into the game. A deliberate but not unsportsmanlike

:44:45.:44:57.

foul. It is two shots at the line. I'm not sure that Rodriguez

:44:58.:45:00.

recognised that. The United States are not shooting

:45:01.:45:16.

as well as you would expect them to coming in here. Dirty 1%. She ran

:45:17.:45:25.

the court beautifully. Spain again takes the lead. Three mostly. The US

:45:26.:45:41.

will get the possession. They are living up to those expectations full

:45:42.:45:55.

of from Ndour. Just over three to play in the quarter.

:45:56.:46:15.

About four blocks to Spain, and zero for the United States. You might

:46:16.:46:23.

have thought that statistic was wrong, or the other way around.

:46:24.:46:32.

Ndour at the foul line, and that goes through, 14-12. This has been a

:46:33.:46:40.

great first quarter for Spain. The way they have approached this game,

:46:41.:46:43.

it has been a really good plan, and they are putting pressure on the

:46:44.:46:44.

United States. She picked up the foul. She was

:46:45.:46:56.

doing well, Ndour. Lots of contact. And the problem for Spain, of

:46:57.:47:21.

course, is that lack of depth. Gil is a decent centre. Not as mobile as

:47:22.:47:34.

Ndour. Makes the first one, della Donna. She can tie up the game with

:47:35.:47:40.

the second. And does. We are tied at 14, 2.19 to play in the first

:47:41.:47:47.

quarter. Spain are probably going to give away a lot of fouls and the

:47:48.:47:51.

Americans are strong from the foul line. For three... That was her

:47:52.:47:58.

spot! She was looking for her spot and found it at 17-14, to Spain.

:47:59.:48:04.

Spain are on in this game and you have to be on against the United

:48:05.:48:08.

States. Spain are on in this game, so far anyway.

:48:09.:48:14.

17-16. And now the bodies have crashed down and that is going to be

:48:15.:48:28.

a blocking foul on Nicholls, as Macau tree -- as McCouightry went

:48:29.:48:42.

down. She was moving and she had the hip out. Just her eyes caused the

:48:43.:48:52.

foul, I think! A minute and 35, Spain leading by one. Della Donna.

:48:53.:49:06.

Whalen. Now the second cutter, the foul is called for travelling. Well,

:49:07.:49:13.

Spain are doing a remarkable job here. It was maybe a tough call on

:49:14.:49:19.

fouls, but it is the pressure coming. They're doing well, the

:49:20.:49:24.

Spanish. Two as no fouls for the Laura Nicholls. That is one thing to

:49:25.:49:30.

keep in mind, they can't allow too many fouls because it could put them

:49:31.:49:42.

out of the game. Pask -- Pascua is in and she takes the rebound. The

:49:43.:49:50.

whistle went a bit earlier. The Minghella is picked up the foul

:49:51.:49:56.

there. -- Dominguez picked up the foul there. Lost her balance but

:49:57.:50:07.

there it was. Whalen at the foul line now, just under a minute to

:50:08.:50:12.

play. And she misses the first shot. Coming into this one has that's were

:50:13.:50:19.

at 80% -- the USA's stats were 80% from the foul line, but struggling a

:50:20.:50:25.

bit here. I keep saying that about this arena! You don't believe me,

:50:26.:50:29.

but I keep saying it! We are all tied again at 17 with just under a

:50:30.:50:33.

minute to play. Dominguez brings the ball up for Spain. Floater is short

:50:34.:50:42.

and will rebound to Tina Charles. Pushes it up to McCoughtry.

:50:43.:50:51.

McCoughtry lays it in. 19-17. Sometimes they make it look easy.

:50:52.:50:55.

You can't allow it to happen too often. They're going to have to make

:50:56.:51:00.

United States work for every basket. But for Spain, it is a question of,

:51:01.:51:05.

how long can they keep it up for? Gil! And Gil hit the front of the

:51:06.:51:14.

rim as she went through the centre of the pain, and now holding for the

:51:15.:51:22.

last shot. Other teams all had good first quarters against the United

:51:23.:51:25.

States but they couldn't carry on with it, and that has to be the

:51:26.:51:31.

objective for Spain. McCoughtry is fouled by Pascua, with four seconds

:51:32.:51:33.

left in the quarter. The fouls have really mounted up for

:51:34.:51:42.

Spain. I think they've been fairly spread, but they have to be careful.

:51:43.:51:47.

Especially their key players, that they're not committing to many. It

:51:48.:51:58.

is 9-3 on the fouls. The US is not taking advantage of it completely,

:51:59.:52:03.

right now they are five from ten on free throws, very uncharacteristic.

:52:04.:52:09.

Make that six from 11. You would expect that to improve. Dominguez

:52:10.:52:16.

comes down quickly, March is the two hander and Mrs high on the glass. A

:52:17.:52:20.

late bucket and a couple of fouls shots that the US up by four at the

:52:21.:52:28.

end of the quarter, but basically Spain has come out and played very

:52:29.:52:31.

aggressively and what has been really oppressive is the great play

:52:32.:52:36.

they have got from Ndour and Nicholls, exactly who they needed to

:52:37.:52:37.

play well. We're going to rejoin that soon, but

:52:38.:52:43.

a break between the two quarters. It is

:52:44.:52:46.

-- it is day 15 and here are the headlines so far. Great news for

:52:47.:52:57.

Nicola Adams, she has retained her medal in the women's flyweight in

:52:58.:53:01.

the boxing, the first reduce bugs to do that in 92 years. -- the first

:53:02.:53:08.

British boxer to do that. Liam Heath has won his second Gold Medal of

:53:09.:53:14.

these games, with gold in the men's canoe, or kayak. Vicky Holland

:53:15.:53:26.

claimed a bronze medal for Team GB as Jorgensen took gold in the

:53:27.:53:31.

triathlon for USA. We've heard from Tom Daley today, qualifying for the

:53:32.:53:36.

semifinal in first place, but just couldn't get it to work today and

:53:37.:53:39.

did not make the final of the ten-metre platform. And we've shown

:53:40.:53:45.

you plenty of golf in the past few days. Inbee Park of South Korea is

:53:46.:53:50.

the Olympic Golf Course be in. 16-under par, winning by five shots.

:53:51.:53:54.

Charley Hull, good performance from her over the four days. She finished

:53:55.:53:56.

joint seventh. Let's bring you some live body

:53:57.:54:06.

boarding down here from Copacabana. Normally we only show you the sea

:54:07.:54:11.

when it is dark. There are some kids out there despite the red flag

:54:12.:54:19.

saying no swimming! Shall we try one more wave? We saw a wipe-out for one

:54:20.:54:25.

lady last night! What a disappointment. That's probably some

:54:26.:54:31.

of the worst body boarding we've seen, and unfortunately that is the

:54:32.:54:36.

only bit we've brought you live on BBC Four! We will try and record

:54:37.:54:40.

some and bring it to you later. We will also try and bring you some of

:54:41.:54:44.

the best bits we've enjoyed down here on the beach. We will try and

:54:45.:54:48.

tidy that up a bit later on but right now, back to the live sport,

:54:49.:54:53.

back to the basketball. USA against Spain, 4-point lead at the start of

:54:54.:54:57.

the second quarter. 48 match unbeaten run 14 USA's women. Let's

:54:58.:55:06.

see what Spain can do. Vitor and Mike Can talk us through it.

:55:07.:55:11.

COMMENTATOR: Bird, for three... It is 24-17. If United States can get

:55:12.:55:26.

their 3-point shooting going, it will really relieve some of the

:55:27.:55:41.

pressure. The foul on the outside. I'm a little surprised they got two

:55:42.:55:47.

points in there. Dominguez is a spark kind of player.

:55:48.:56:00.

Cruz hands it off to Xargay. Nicholls goes into the basket,

:56:01.:56:12.

24-19. Excuse me, that was Xargay laying it in. Great hustle. She has

:56:13.:56:20.

been Spain's best player so far, contributing at both ends of the

:56:21.:56:25.

court. Great stuff from Ndour. The whistle, the call will be on

:56:26.:56:33.

McCoughtry. Spain knew that they had to up that part of their game, the

:56:34.:56:39.

rebound is. They have done well to box McCoughtry out there and make

:56:40.:56:48.

sure that Ndour got it. The previous effort from Xargay, it just opened

:56:49.:56:54.

up and she went straight through the gap. The foul was on McCoughtry,

:56:55.:56:56.

being pushed over by Xargay. Xargay gets the ball. Nice move. Off

:56:57.:57:21.

the glass, Charles with the rebound to Bird. Nicholls came up too

:57:22.:57:32.

quickly. Ndour got enough of her to keep her from getting the shot she

:57:33.:57:39.

wanted. Ndour is such a pivotal figure for Spain. Causing real

:57:40.:57:43.

trouble for the United States and as long as Spain can keep doing this,

:57:44.:57:46.

they are still in the game. There are only five points behind.

:57:47.:57:50.

Defensively, she and Nicholls are doing a great job of keeping them a

:57:51.:57:54.

bit further from the basket that they want to be. Into the game early

:57:55.:58:03.

is Stuart, and it is 24-21, as Torrens comes back into the game and

:58:04.:58:10.

immediately makes her presence felt. Bird and Moore got their wires

:58:11.:58:18.

crossed. And Breanna Stewart with the turnover. This is lastly

:58:19.:58:23.

different from the way that the teams played in the group stage,

:58:24.:58:28.

because that was a blow out to the United States, but Spain are well in

:58:29.:58:33.

this. Nicholls missed everything, and Bird to Stuart.

:58:34.:58:37.

Look at coach Mondello, he nearly ran into her because he was on the

:58:38.:58:45.

edge of the court! And then she was signalled for travelling. But in the

:58:46.:58:54.

meantime, Stewart's pass and it is 27-21.

:58:55.:59:02.

Ndour, for three. And she hits that! She is doing it all, Ndour! What a

:59:03.:59:12.

game she is having. Knocking down threes, defending brilliantly.

:59:13.:59:16.

Fantastic performance. She's keeping her side in this! 27-24. Moore takes

:59:17.:59:26.

the past, feeds it into Stewart, she is fouled by Dorrans.

:59:27.:59:31.

I think Spain would prefer this foul to be on Ndour, and it is an Ndour.

:59:32.:59:42.

Third personal. This is a concern for Spain. They may have to bring

:59:43.:59:46.

her off, because just one more foul left, they can ill afford for their

:59:47.:59:50.

best player so far to have to go off. When she gets the fourth foul,

:59:51.:59:54.

she then has to play very conservatively. Ndour with five

:59:55.:00:01.

points, only two rebound is but the work she has been doing is more

:00:02.:00:07.

important than that. Stewart, three-time college Player of the

:00:08.:00:10.

Year in the last three seasons. She makes both shots.

:00:11.:00:17.

It had to happen for Spain. When do you bring Ndour on again? At the end

:00:18.:00:26.

of the half? They will have to see how they are playing. Ideally,

:00:27.:00:32.

they'd want to sit until the third quarter. But it is a huge loss.

:00:33.:00:47.

Taurasi has called for a foul. I thought she thought it was called on

:00:48.:00:59.

her because the official pointed to her. I couldn't understand how she

:01:00.:01:03.

could call for a foul. But that is what she gestured, so I was just

:01:04.:01:11.

listening to her. But that is the team's third foul. Just settling

:01:12.:01:19.

into the basket. She is so strong from the area. She makes Spain's job

:01:20.:01:27.

of defending so difficult. Time out for Spain. There is a decision to be

:01:28.:01:32.

made. They need Ndour out there to stay with this US team. Obviously,

:01:33.:01:39.

she picks up the fourth foul and she will have to be very cautious with

:01:40.:01:43.

her play, but still aggressive to stay with the US. Tough decision

:01:44.:01:45.

coming up for the coach. That was Torrens looking for her

:01:46.:02:39.

spot for the three. She is honoured two and a very good scream from

:02:40.:02:43.

Ndour. This is Ndour battling with Tina Charles. Eight points is the

:02:44.:02:52.

difference. I think that is as big lead the United States have had so

:02:53.:02:54.

far. Leticia Romero, the 21-year-old, is

:02:55.:03:02.

still playing in college in the US. Another three. Two in a row from

:03:03.:03:39.

Diana Taurasi, opens up an 11 point lead over Spain.

:03:40.:03:48.

It's coincidental that Taurasi has started to play like this as soon as

:03:49.:03:58.

Ndour comes off. But it is the brilliance of Taurasi and when you

:03:59.:04:02.

have a play like that on your team, it really makes a difference. The

:04:03.:04:05.

United States are really taking control. Bird comes out. Lindsay

:04:06.:04:14.

Whalen comes in. One thing Whalen does that Bird

:04:15.:04:42.

doesn't is penetrate directly. She's a little bit more aggressive.

:04:43.:04:58.

Stewart is called for travelling. That is the third one. Charles'

:04:59.:05:06.

position is making life difficult for Spain. That basket before from

:05:07.:05:10.

the United States, that is where Ndour would have maybe made things

:05:11.:05:16.

more difficult for the US. Like you say, Whalen likes to penetrate

:05:17.:05:19.

through and drive through but Ndour was actually keeping her fairly

:05:20.:05:26.

quiet. The question, she lost her challenge.

:05:27.:05:45.

It is out off McCoughtry. Four minutes to play in the first half.

:05:46.:05:52.

The US are up by 13. Spain's edge has gone blunt in the last few

:05:53.:05:57.

minutes. The United States are taking control of this. Spain need

:05:58.:06:01.

to get back in the contest. The problem for Spain is obvious. They

:06:02.:06:06.

don't have the bench strength. Ndour committed three fouls and they don't

:06:07.:06:10.

have another big player who can play at this level.

:06:11.:06:26.

Stewart tries to save it as it goes out of bounds and Spain will put it

:06:27.:06:35.

in. The first quarter, I think they would have scored that basket.

:06:36.:06:38.

Things aren't going right for Spain and it's really difficult. To beat

:06:39.:06:46.

this US team, you have to be consistent without.

:06:47.:06:59.

She's worked so hard, Nicholls. She is having to do it mostly by

:07:00.:07:07.

herself. Now she goes right back to defend.

:07:08.:07:41.

No basket but Nicholls with the foul. Could be trouble for Nicholls

:07:42.:07:49.

is because she might be on three personal fouls, too. This is the

:07:50.:07:54.

importance of her role. Getting the offensive rebound, putting it back

:07:55.:07:58.

in. It is the third personal phone calls. This is inevitable. They are

:07:59.:08:08.

both having to work so hard against women who are taller, and giving it

:08:09.:08:21.

away, and in Ndour' case, Biggar. That came off the arm. Maya Moore

:08:22.:08:31.

getting contact at the line and the United States are looking strong

:08:32.:08:35.

heading towards the end of the first half. The problem for Spain as that

:08:36.:08:39.

without the bigs doing what they were doing, it is difficult for the

:08:40.:08:42.

others to contribute the way they want to because every time they come

:08:43.:08:44.

out, there is a big available. Finally, Spain, way with that! There

:08:45.:09:00.

is a block, and it'll be a jump ball. It's going to go to Spain.

:09:01.:09:08.

Look at this, clean block, and she came down with it. They're doing

:09:09.:09:18.

well, battling away. Off the rebounds, United States, it is white

:09:19.:09:24.

arms going up. The players in white shirts. And it makes it really

:09:25.:09:28.

difficult. It must have been a Spain ball again.

:09:29.:09:36.

That is a foul as Cruz drives through. It is tough for Spain here.

:09:37.:10:00.

There two key players have had to sit. They are down by 15 points and

:10:01.:10:05.

the US are starting to shoot really well as well. You're driving through

:10:06.:10:13.

the middle, well, Nicholls and Ndour not blocking of the bigs.

:10:14.:10:24.

Torrens is the other power forward now, the other big inside. That

:10:25.:10:29.

should not be her role. She turns 27 on the 30th of August.

:10:30.:10:44.

The United States want to press the advantage now. They need to score as

:10:45.:10:48.

many points as possible to make it comfortable. Now it is 43-27. They

:10:49.:10:57.

won't take their foot off the pedal. They are ruthless in that sense. All

:10:58.:11:02.

of a sudden, they have broken the game open. Spain want another

:11:03.:11:08.

time-out. They will attempt to staunch the United States' offence

:11:09.:11:13.

at this point. All of a sudden, from a close game at the quarter, and

:11:14.:11:19.

Spain keeping up with them, the US has outscored Spain 22-10, and now

:11:20.:11:25.

it is 43-27. I love Geno says they went so last

:11:26.:12:10.

time and they say, yeah, we know that. She is the second coach out

:12:11.:12:15.

there! She knows what they need to do. So far, they've been doing it

:12:16.:12:23.

because they are outscoring Spain. When the shops start to drop for the

:12:24.:12:25.

US, you have a real problem. Greatly pass for Torrens, but it was

:12:26.:12:32.

too far. Xargay is fouled on the outside by

:12:33.:13:04.

Fowles. For Spain, it is a matter of trying to keep up, really, with

:13:05.:13:08.

United States now. Get as many points as you can, don't think too

:13:09.:13:13.

much about the scoreboard. And try to get back into this context. If

:13:14.:13:19.

you keep chipping away, you give yourself an opportunity.

:13:20.:13:31.

Xargay makes them both. Bird is back in the point.

:13:32.:13:51.

That was beautiful. So hard to stop them and they're playing like that.

:13:52.:14:06.

That is great stuff from Cruz. They need to do that, they need to

:14:07.:14:16.

penetrate. Gil is the only big in for Spain.

:14:17.:14:36.

Looking for the foul and gets it from Bird. 17 foul from the United

:14:37.:14:51.

States they've piled up the fouls. No one is on three direct fouls but

:14:52.:14:56.

that is the advantage the US have over Spain. If United States get

:14:57.:15:00.

into trouble, there's someone on the bench that can take their place.

:15:01.:15:04.

When people talk about the US domination in Olympic basketball,

:15:05.:15:08.

which isn't quite as much as people think, given that Argentina won the

:15:09.:15:17.

2004 Olympics, for example. But it is more a question of depth of

:15:18.:15:24.

talent. Rather than distance the teams can put together. The

:15:25.:15:28.

competitive starting fires, sixes and sevens, but the US can go 12

:15:29.:15:31.

deep. That is great. She is having a

:15:32.:15:44.

remarkable game, she has been outstanding all Olympic Games and

:15:45.:15:48.

has stepped it up in this gold medal game, 12 points for her now. In

:15:49.:15:53.

fairness, people talk about the athletes... And there is the steal.

:15:54.:15:59.

That was not a well judged pass. Easy lay-up. And that brings the

:16:00.:16:07.

half to a close, a 17 point gain, 49-32. In fairness to Spain, Sanchez

:16:08.:16:14.

is not here, she got injured playing in WNBA in July, Spain needs her

:16:15.:16:19.

desperately in this game. But they don't have her and when they have to

:16:20.:16:22.

go to the bench the US momentum is too much for them. At the half, US

:16:23.:16:27.

leads 49-32. We shall be back for the second half

:16:28.:16:36.

and hopefully it will gather some competitiveness. The USA coming away

:16:37.:16:42.

with that at the moment. If we do think it is becoming hilariously

:16:43.:16:45.

one-sided we might show you the handball instead. Look at the

:16:46.:16:49.

weather. Our final night on the beach. Full rein, ponchos all over

:16:50.:16:56.

the place. I might have to purchase one myself, there are about ?1 40

:16:57.:17:04.

odd. But there are still people on the beach as there usually are. Have

:17:05.:17:12.

we got the kid who was doing his...? You know earlier we saw the kids who

:17:13.:17:16.

were unsuccessful with the body boards? Well, a little practice and

:17:17.:17:21.

that is better, isn't it? He is still out there so if he improves

:17:22.:17:24.

again we will show you it again later on. Many texts coming in,

:17:25.:17:32.

hello to Joel and Anna, big supporters of the show, they say

:17:33.:17:36.

that ever happens very will be with us all the way through until two

:17:37.:17:43.

a.m.. So hello to you. In Farnborough, Simon, Charlotte, and a

:17:44.:17:53.

ring, hello. But since McCarthy would like to know, is Maria on

:17:54.:17:58.

tonight? Well I don't like to build things up but will not happen. She

:17:59.:18:03.

actually did quite a long way away, it is a long flight to Rio where she

:18:04.:18:07.

is getting married next month. But we will show you highlights and

:18:08.:18:10.

something tells you she might feature. Tim Hawthorne asks, why are

:18:11.:18:19.

you calling the children kids? Kids are goats. Apologies for that! I did

:18:20.:18:24.

not realise it was quite so illegal. Another reviewer, my kids are asking

:18:25.:18:29.

if they can stay up. Well, listen, if they turn up, we have a little

:18:30.:18:36.

surprise for them tonight, hopefully you'll enjoy our final night on BBC

:18:37.:18:40.

Four as much as we have over the last few days. And Laura says, I am

:18:41.:18:45.

holding you responsible for the insult of my six-year-old to his

:18:46.:18:49.

brother. He called his brother a bomb face. We take full

:18:50.:18:56.

responsibility for that. In all honesty, it makes us feel quite warm

:18:57.:19:02.

inside. It is a special moment for us all. Slightly better role models

:19:03.:19:05.

are some of the Team GB medallists. We will show you one of them now.

:19:06.:19:14.

You might remember a few days ago Liam Heath and John Schofield took

:19:15.:19:21.

silver in the kayak. John was the only when interviewed because Liam

:19:22.:19:27.

Heath had to focus on the individual final, and this is how he got on.

:19:28.:19:34.

Very exciting here at the Lagoon. In lane five, Liam Heath of Great

:19:35.:19:43.

Britain. The sizzling hot favourite for this event. Oh we have a go.

:19:44.:19:53.

Watch out for Liam Heath, not the best of starts. He is looking to

:19:54.:19:58.

repeat British success. What it is Beaumont of France who has the lead

:19:59.:20:03.

at the moment. It is the closing stages. He has got work to do. Half

:20:04.:20:09.

a metre down. 70 metres to go. Now Liam Heath starts to edge forward is

:20:10.:20:17.

Beaumont fades. And she has believed. 15 metres to go, he has

:20:18.:20:21.

got to stay strong. Goldie goes to Liam Heath, he came as the favourite

:20:22.:20:27.

and will leave as the Olympic champion. The most successful

:20:28.:20:34.

British Olympic patter of all time. He has gold, silver, and bronze in

:20:35.:20:38.

his collection, he leaps from seventh to first in the tally of

:20:39.:20:47.

British paddlers. A sensational run. A gold, silver, and bronze. What a

:20:48.:20:54.

collection. From Guildford, moved to Maidenhead, and the number one

:20:55.:20:57.

British start now, the most successful Olympic paddler Britain

:20:58.:21:03.

has ever had. Olympic champion, how does it sound?

:21:04.:21:15.

Incredible, it has been on my mind every single day for the last four

:21:16.:21:20.

years. It felt like I switched onto automatic. I just kept going. There

:21:21.:21:31.

was a headwind today. Unbelievable. We weren't worried for a bit,

:21:32.:21:35.

Beaumont was I had a view and you had ground to claw-back. Never a

:21:36.:21:41.

doubt in your mind? You don't pay attention to those around you. You

:21:42.:21:45.

just focus on your line. You have got to judge the conditions, there

:21:46.:21:52.

was a headwind, had a good solid start, pace down, keep the group,

:21:53.:21:58.

down to the line. Of all the athletes we speak today mentioned

:21:59.:22:02.

sacrifice. Whether it is themselves, the people around them, and how much

:22:03.:22:07.

it is worth it when they come here. When you win a gold medal how much

:22:08.:22:13.

is it worth it? Every ounce. I want to thank everybody who has been with

:22:14.:22:17.

me. Friends, family, Johnny, he finished a couple of days ago but

:22:18.:22:22.

has been out doing drills with me, checking out my boat, getting into

:22:23.:22:27.

the water, my coach, Alex, an amazing man, and all the support

:22:28.:22:31.

crew behind me, it is amazing. You are the most successful Olympian

:22:32.:22:36.

when it comes to canoe sprint athletes for Great Britain.

:22:37.:22:44.

Exceeding Tim Brabant. What is it mean to you? I had not thought about

:22:45.:22:51.

it, I glimpsed it on Facebook but I try to keep away from my phone and

:22:52.:22:56.

reading stuff. It did not play on my mind much. I still look up to those

:22:57.:23:01.

guys, Tim is one of my idols, I watched him when I was little, and

:23:02.:23:07.

all the guys who competed over the years, I still look up to them and

:23:08.:23:11.

to be honest I still feel like I need to achieve what they have done.

:23:12.:23:16.

But it is an absolutely incredible feeling. You are now the standard

:23:17.:23:19.

setter for anybody who wants to paddle, you are the man.

:23:20.:23:28.

Liam Heath, who actually popped down to see us at the BBC studios where

:23:29.:23:35.

Hazel does the morning programme, and he is a big lad. Significant

:23:36.:23:40.

shoulders. The amount of work that goes in to make sure that when you

:23:41.:23:43.

come to an Olympic Games you perform as best as you possibly can, and for

:23:44.:23:51.

Liam Heath that was a gold medal. Nicola Adams this afternoon also

:23:52.:23:56.

went for gold. A massive story in London, she came here as the

:23:57.:23:59.

overwhelming favourite, and we will show you the final two rounds of her

:24:00.:24:05.

about today, the gold medal match against French opponent. We pick it

:24:06.:24:07.

up at the start of round three. Two rounds completed, two to go and

:24:08.:24:23.

both of the completed rounds so far have been scored in favour of the

:24:24.:24:27.

reigning Olympic champion, Nicola Adams. She has demonstrated superior

:24:28.:24:33.

ring craft thus far but expect her opponent to adopt an all or nothing

:24:34.:24:39.

approach in her efforts to get to top spot on the Olympic medal

:24:40.:24:44.

podium. You said it, the tactics are predictable from the French boxer.

:24:45.:24:48.

Nicola has got to keep on the end of her job but just adjust her feet.

:24:49.:24:56.

She has got to slip that shot and tried to work downstairs but she is

:24:57.:25:06.

difficult to get to, she has got the full range of movement. Ourahmoune,

:25:07.:25:14.

she must push her back to the ropes and restrict that, if she is to have

:25:15.:25:19.

any success. Adams is working well with a left jab but Ourahmoune is

:25:20.:25:25.

getting closer and made Adams for short. She is one of two woman on

:25:26.:25:30.

the French team along with eight men. How much inspiration will

:25:31.:25:42.

Ourahmoune take from her colleague winning gold earlier as she looks to

:25:43.:25:46.

overturn a two point deficit in all three scorecard? Could jab by

:25:47.:25:57.

Ourahmoune. -- good. She is having success here and there are but Adams

:25:58.:26:00.

just put her in her place, back on the back foot. Occasionally Adams

:26:01.:26:05.

just holds her feet and is prepared to stand and trade. As I said before

:26:06.:26:10.

she can fight any inside or outside and this is a performance again from

:26:11.:26:18.

Adams. More success for the boxer in blue, but Nicola Adams continues to

:26:19.:26:24.

land eye-catching punches. Plenty of support in attendance for the

:26:25.:26:28.

British boxer. All appears calm in the red corner. Some good stuff from

:26:29.:26:37.

Adams. That is a nice shot, Ourahmoune did have some success,

:26:38.:26:40.

that right hand was not far away, but Adams just counterattacking,

:26:41.:26:44.

beating her opponent to the punch, stepping inside, good right hand.

:26:45.:26:49.

The French supporters for Ourahmoune, she needs to fight the

:26:50.:26:55.

contest of her life, and now in the last round she will either have to

:26:56.:26:58.

knock out Adams or force a stoppage. That will be very difficult.

:26:59.:27:05.

Ourahmoune, with that increased success, sweeps Round 3 across the

:27:06.:27:12.

board. Just one point in it. 29-28 Adams with all three judges. Into

:27:13.:27:18.

the fourth and final round of this gold-medal bout in the 51 kilograms

:27:19.:27:24.

flyweight division. Nicola Adams has conceded the round preceding this

:27:25.:27:30.

one and Ourahmoune has taken inspiration from it and come out in

:27:31.:27:34.

aggressive mood in this fourth and final round, landing effect of the

:27:35.:27:38.

with the right hand. Given the status of the contest Adams cannot

:27:39.:27:43.

afford to box defensively to protect a lead, and that is why we are

:27:44.:27:47.

seeing exchangers, they are not tidy, but exchanges close to the

:27:48.:27:51.

ropes. Her strength is on the outside. Get that timing back. The

:27:52.:27:58.

1-2, a good strength shot from Adams, that is what she has got to

:27:59.:28:04.

do, hit her opponent as she comes, concentrate and get those accurate

:28:05.:28:08.

shot mid-to long, rather than on side. The referee allowing the

:28:09.:28:16.

fighters to box away at close range. After an 11 day wait to get her

:28:17.:28:20.

campaign under way here in Rio Nicola Adams did fade noticeably in

:28:21.:28:23.

the fourth and final round to Beasley but was still a winner

:28:24.:28:26.

convincingly enough against the Ukrainian. That she cannot afford a

:28:27.:28:34.

similar fate here. This is her third contest of the tournament and she

:28:35.:28:40.

will have shed any ring rust. But Ourahmoune is desperately trying to

:28:41.:28:44.

work at close range. Adams just making the mistake of just after

:28:45.:28:47.

landing the shot falling into her opponent, which is what Ourahmoune

:28:48.:28:54.

wants, to work at close range, threes and fours are coming in now

:28:55.:28:57.

from the French opponent. Adams has got to compete. Both fighters are

:28:58.:29:03.

skilfully extracting the best of one another. Deep into the final round

:29:04.:29:07.

who can produce the final moment of quality? Cracking right hand from

:29:08.:29:17.

Ourahmoune. It is an incredibly tight gold-medal bout between two

:29:18.:29:21.

familiar rivals. At the end of the third-round Nicola Adams led by one,

:29:22.:29:29.

with all three judges, and Ourahmoune mounted a spirited rally

:29:30.:29:33.

in the fourth and final round. It is incredibly tight, how will the

:29:34.:29:38.

judges score that final round? It was close, Adams really had to

:29:39.:29:45.

rally. She had to equal the workrate of her opponent and I think she just

:29:46.:29:51.

did enough to win that last round, Ourahmoune work better on the inside

:29:52.:29:55.

but Adams worked better at mid and long. So a very close round but for

:29:56.:30:02.

me Nicola Adams just had a better, eye-catching, quality work, it will

:30:03.:30:03.

hopefully see her through. Nervous moments for both of the

:30:04.:30:16.

opponents now. A keenly contested gold medal. Who will be crowned

:30:17.:30:18.

champion? Ladies and gentlemen, the winner, by

:30:19.:30:29.

unanimous decision, and Olympic champion...

:30:30.:30:41.

Nicola Adams! Nicola Adams lets out a triumphant roar, having been

:30:42.:30:55.

crowned Olympic champion for the second successive time. She joins an

:30:56.:31:00.

exclusive club reserved only for boxers with impeccable Olympic

:31:01.:31:04.

credentials. A fantastic performance to fetch her name or indelibly into

:31:05.:31:08.

the annals of Olympic boxing history by becoming the first woman to win

:31:09.:31:12.

two Olympic titles in the boxing ring.

:31:13.:31:19.

Great stuff from Nicola Adams and I think she might be appearing

:31:20.:31:22.

somewhere on a screen near you on BBC One at some stage but thank you

:31:23.:31:28.

for sticking with us on BBC Four. We have lovely sport and all the other

:31:29.:31:34.

bits and bobs. There's loads of people watching tonight having

:31:35.:31:43.

special parties a glass of red, no pressure best be worth it. We will

:31:44.:31:48.

try best not to let you down. Lucinda says, "What about a spin

:31:49.:31:53.

off? You and the entire BBC Four team doing weird things on beaches

:31:54.:31:58.

with stuff going on behind you? Has quit anyone? Yes, most of us are in.

:31:59.:32:08.

Marco is out but the rest of the team Rian. We have also got Linda.

:32:09.:32:15.

What time will you be showing the highlights? Matt will be in charge

:32:16.:32:18.

of that and he hasn't made the decision. Half-time in the football,

:32:19.:32:25.

Linda, we shall do those for you. Vicky says, I hope Mo Farah gets to

:32:26.:32:36.

be a double champion tonight and doesn't get a Copacobunyan. I've --

:32:37.:32:47.

I see what you did there. Antony Worrall Thompson, we hope he hasn't

:32:48.:32:51.

pulled a muscle and he will come back. I don't think it is good news

:32:52.:32:56.

because it is a huge disappointment to us. The circuit trainers, they

:32:57.:33:01.

haven't been here for three nights. Part of me thinks because the

:33:02.:33:04.

triathlon has been happening behind us and it was the women's triathlon

:33:05.:33:08.

today, men strap from a few days ago, they've packed up and gone

:33:09.:33:18.

elsewhere. If we can get hold of AWT, we will. Talking of half-time,

:33:19.:33:23.

that is where we left the basketball with USA taking on Spain. We will go

:33:24.:33:28.

back there now. Into the third period. This is live for you now on

:33:29.:33:37.

BBC Four. Keep your bits and bobs coming in and we shall continue to

:33:38.:33:41.

read them out throughout the evening. Let's have some basketball

:33:42.:33:42.

on BBC Four. Four personal fouls for Bird. I

:33:43.:33:58.

wasn't expecting that. The passes thrown away. The possession goes to

:33:59.:34:06.

the US. They could do with the more coaching from the bench. That's the

:34:07.:34:11.

difference between the US and Spain. Bird will have to sit out most of

:34:12.:34:15.

the game but they have Whalen and other threats who can come and so it

:34:16.:34:20.

isn't imperative that and Mac is out there. Yes, they can play with

:34:21.:34:23.

Augustus, if they need to. Spain need a big third quarter to

:34:24.:34:37.

give them a good chance of getting back in this.

:34:38.:34:49.

Taurasi is finding her range. That's the trouble for Spain. The US can

:34:50.:35:00.

get up there, and Taurasi can just get them in. The difference is 20

:35:01.:35:04.

points now and if the US keep this pace up, it could be very difficult,

:35:05.:35:13.

even if Ndour was out there. I think there are a couple of tired legs

:35:14.:35:19.

from Spain. There was no way they could stop Taurasi. Two steps, up in

:35:20.:35:26.

the air, and right now the Spanish coach, it looks like he's saying,

:35:27.:35:30.

what do I do? Remember, the US beat Spain by 40

:35:31.:35:41.

when they met in the qualifying group. That's been the problem for

:35:42.:35:50.

every team playing the US. You can keep it up for a quarter or two but

:35:51.:35:55.

to be consistently matching it for the entire game is so difficult,

:35:56.:36:00.

they have so many threats, and when Taurasi starts hitting threes... The

:36:01.:36:06.

tall, their strong, from inside, from outside, and you have to play

:36:07.:36:10.

the perfect game and no one has come up with the perfect game against the

:36:11.:36:16.

United States. Taurasi, all 3-pointers getting through.

:36:17.:36:23.

Catchings and Taurasi have three gold medals. Charles, Whalen and

:36:24.:36:33.

Moore picked up their first gold medals in London.

:36:34.:36:40.

Ndour, her third three for Spain. Whalen goes back door.

:36:41.:36:58.

Spain want a shoot out, the United States will take that. That was

:36:59.:37:08.

beautiful from Palau. Torrens, and it is blocked out of

:37:09.:37:25.

bounds by Moore. Early on, it was spent getting all the blocks. The

:37:26.:37:30.

United States have now picked it up as well. It seems Spain are trying

:37:31.:37:34.

to pick up the pace. They've nothing to lose. But that actually gives the

:37:35.:37:36.

rest the advantage. Four threes! The bench can scarcely

:37:37.:38:07.

believe it. She's out there shooting the threes, and Spain have cut the

:38:08.:38:17.

lead. 6.5 to play in the third. There is a foul inside.

:38:18.:38:32.

Third personal foul for Griner. Well, you saw Nicholls's necks

:38:33.:38:40.

snapped back, indicating an elbow. The United States don't mind playing

:38:41.:39:06.

at this high pace. They have players that can drive, this will suit them

:39:07.:39:10.

but I don't think Spain have any other possible conclusion to come to

:39:11.:39:14.

in trying to get back into this game. Not only can they do it, but

:39:15.:39:22.

they can do it easily. That is the advantage. Whalen misses the foul

:39:23.:39:27.

shot. It is going to be off Tina Charles. Ndour is keeping up with

:39:28.:39:33.

Taurasi. I think this might be on Palau for

:39:34.:39:57.

reaching in. She looks a forlorn figure. That is going to be a foul.

:39:58.:40:11.

That is her second personal, Palau. Griner looking for position with

:40:12.:40:21.

Cruz on her but she shoots over. That is almost a whole foot height

:40:22.:40:31.

advantage. And the foul... Sylvia Fowles, all she has to do is step on

:40:32.:40:35.

the court and she lives up to her name. You talk about the height

:40:36.:40:44.

advantage. There's no chance there. Griner is tall and most players...

:40:45.:40:52.

Only one Australian player can match her and when you can shoot like

:40:53.:40:53.

that. Dot. She has to be one of the standout

:40:54.:41:05.

players for the United States. Absolutely.

:41:06.:41:13.

Ndour finally misses the three fouls and clears the board.

:41:14.:41:38.

They seem impressed with what they've seen. Spain have put up a

:41:39.:41:45.

fight but the US individual quality has shone through, and they have

:41:46.:41:49.

finished strongly as well, partly because their benches strong so

:41:50.:41:52.

their players can get a chance to rest and they don't lose momentum

:41:53.:41:57.

when bring off players like Maya Moore. Spain keep possession.

:41:58.:42:17.

DAN WALKER: Were going to leave the basketball there. We will show you

:42:18.:42:30.

the football and the handball. You can continue to watch USA against

:42:31.:42:34.

Spain with USA with that commandingly donned the Red Button.

:42:35.:42:41.

It should be on every single Red Button. Elsewhere, we have the

:42:42.:42:46.

ten-metre diving final. This is the one Tom Daley sadly didn't qualify

:42:47.:42:50.

for, didn't make it through the semifinal earlier today. We heard

:42:51.:42:54.

him very disappointed earlier, but if you'd like to watch the final, it

:42:55.:42:57.

is available on the Red Button for you now. A little bit later on, we

:42:58.:43:02.

will show you the first half of the gold medal match in the football and

:43:03.:43:08.

the Maracana which sees Brazil take on Germany, hopefully for a gold

:43:09.:43:13.

medal. Shy and is about to go and watch the football down the road, so

:43:14.:43:20.

how important, a game for this, a moment for this is it for the host

:43:21.:43:25.

nation Brazil? It is very important. I am hoping Brazil will win the gold

:43:26.:43:29.

medal for once because I don't think... Never won the gold medal in

:43:30.:43:37.

the Olympic Games. And we will get revenge against Germany. It is a

:43:38.:43:41.

very important game and we have to win. I sense the importance of this

:43:42.:43:46.

game, you're talking about the World Cup when Brazil lost to Germany 7-1.

:43:47.:43:50.

I was here and it wasn't a happy place. If we make one goal, we will

:43:51.:43:57.

be happy. Do you think Brazilian football fans are confident?

:43:58.:44:01.

Normally whenever Brazil go into a game, most Brazilian fans are

:44:02.:44:05.

convinced they will win but because of the way they're playing, there is

:44:06.:44:09.

some concern about how they are playing. We are still confident

:44:10.:44:14.

because we are only the country who has won five stars so we are still

:44:15.:44:19.

the best. So we will win this, I am sure. You are a resident of Rio, so

:44:20.:44:26.

how have you found the Olympic experience? Coming to the last few

:44:27.:44:30.

days, how has it been for you? I think it was good. People were

:44:31.:44:36.

thinking that we are going to not do well but I think we delivered. I

:44:37.:44:42.

think so. And what about the legacy? What about years to come? Will it be

:44:43.:44:46.

positive? When we are looking at this day four years in the future,

:44:47.:44:52.

will we be saying it was a great experience for Rio and it actually

:44:53.:44:56.

made a difference? It was definitely a great experience. It was a great

:44:57.:45:00.

experience for Brazil. I think so, yes. And, hopefully, people will

:45:01.:45:05.

have more positive thoughts about Brazil now. And what about some of

:45:06.:45:10.

the gold medals the Brazilians have one? Rafaela Silver in the judo, the

:45:11.:45:16.

pole vault, the boxing, the sailing, and the beach volleyball? Yes, it

:45:17.:45:22.

was great, well done to the guys, we are proud of them and, hopefully, we

:45:23.:45:26.

will get another gold medal tonight. Just now. I like the confidence, I

:45:27.:45:35.

do. You need to be always positive. Brazilians, we never give up. That

:45:36.:45:40.

is what we say, never give up. Lots of people watching back in the UK

:45:41.:45:43.

are slightly concerned about... Say hello to them, if you like. Hello,

:45:44.:45:48.

I'd like to say hi to my boyfriend who is actually in London. Rob

:45:49.:45:55.

Morrish. I wish you could be here with us. Hello, Rob! He's Scottish

:45:56.:46:02.

but he lives in London. Where did you meet him? In London, I was there

:46:03.:46:12.

for six years. Who does he support? He is a Celtic fan. You've just

:46:13.:46:24.

upset all the Rangers fans. He was very happy Andy Murray won the gold

:46:25.:46:30.

in the tennis. He is a very big fan. So everybody is in during the

:46:31.:46:33.

Olympic Games. People watching, they are baffled by the Rio de Janeiro

:46:34.:46:38.

weather. We have to remind people this is your winter. Yes, it is.

:46:39.:46:43.

Still, it is very warm, compared to the UK. OK, don't rub it in. Sorry.

:46:44.:46:53.

It's good to be honest. Enjoy the football. We hope the host nation

:46:54.:46:56.

can do it against the Germans. There's a lot of people here... In

:46:57.:47:01.

the past, the Brazilian nation haven't really got behind the

:47:02.:47:04.

Olympic Games because of what happened in the World Cup and

:47:05.:47:07.

because there's a chance they could win on home soil, this is a big one.

:47:08.:47:14.

Massive and we will win. Look at that, the confidence. Lovely to meet

:47:15.:47:20.

you. Say hi to rob the Celtic fan. Do you like handball? Good job you

:47:21.:47:29.

said yes because we've got... UART a very good guest. Let's have some

:47:30.:47:34.

handball. We will keep you on all night. We will show you the second

:47:35.:47:38.

half of the handball gold medal match. This sees Russia taking on

:47:39.:47:42.

France. Both of these sites are pricing finalists, really because

:47:43.:47:46.

Russia beat Norway, who are heavily fancied. France beat the Netherlands

:47:47.:47:51.

in their semifinal. We join it in the second half.

:47:52.:48:02.

The atmosphere is building inside the arena. The fans know that in 30

:48:03.:48:08.

minutes we may have a gold-medal winner. If it is still level we go

:48:09.:48:18.

into overtime. Then we go to penalties if it is still level, but

:48:19.:48:22.

that is a long way off. Russia lead, with France and the attack, in the

:48:23.:48:31.

white. It opens up a bit out on the wing... And into the net. Finding

:48:32.:48:38.

the near post, France 8-10 Russia. Her second goal of the game. Now the

:48:39.:48:45.

Russians have a shot. It looked like interference but it is not given.

:48:46.:48:50.

And France breakaway. But they missed the opportunity. Still not

:48:51.:48:56.

looking like they are fully into the game, and a giveaway by France.

:48:57.:49:01.

Turnover. Only had three in the first half, that is their fourth,

:49:02.:49:05.

and that is the payment at the other end I am afraid, nothing they could

:49:06.:49:12.

do about that. It could have been a different story altogether.

:49:13.:49:24.

A much more action packed opening to this half. It took quite a while to

:49:25.:49:30.

get the first couple of goals at the start of the first half but it is a

:49:31.:49:38.

bit more lively now. Now Russia on the break. The whistle goes, and the

:49:39.:49:54.

referee shakes her head is Sudakova drove through to try to find the

:49:55.:49:59.

back of the net. The ball was lost by France at the other end with

:50:00.:50:08.

Lacrabere desperately looking for the line rather than the shot.

:50:09.:50:13.

Cutting back toward the middle, going back from one side to the

:50:14.:50:16.

other, and the line player readjusting. Bobrovnikova, try to

:50:17.:50:30.

find a way through. That was lucky. France's stream forward. Earlier in

:50:31.:50:36.

the game did not truly suit France, in fairness, they are all about

:50:37.:50:39.

defence and bringing the ball up. And that is a first save under the

:50:40.:50:49.

bill for Glauser. France coming forward. Too many steps, against

:50:50.:51:03.

Sudakova, you are only allowed three steps without bouncing dribbling.

:51:04.:51:10.

What a lovely pass that is. And it is finished by coups nets --

:51:11.:51:26.

Kuznetsova and that is a four goal advantage. Glauser, was always going

:51:27.:51:33.

to struggle with that, especially with her accuracy rate. Late

:51:34.:51:44.

thinking about that one, very slow with the whistle, but it is a free

:51:45.:51:47.

throw, they thought it should have been a penalty. They may show that

:51:48.:51:52.

she broke through and bill for it should be a penalty. Free throw it

:51:53.:52:05.

is. Lacrabere Find it, would have been a penalty anyway. Winning so

:52:06.:52:12.

many penalties, this, another one, stepping well inside the area,

:52:13.:52:17.

couldn't really give that one. A seven metre throw. And then comes

:52:18.:52:34.

Kalinina to try to make the save. Scored. She tried to commit the

:52:35.:52:41.

goalkeeper, dummied the first shot and then just went quickly for the

:52:42.:52:47.

top corner, the venture are happy with that. -- the bench. Friends are

:52:48.:52:57.

pushing deep onto the back players. Nearly losing it, Dmitriyeva and, as

:52:58.:53:09.

France try to be more aggressive with the Russian back players. The

:53:10.:53:20.

whistle-blowing, it can sometimes mean a two-minute suspension. Just

:53:21.:53:28.

about stayed in front by the skin of her teeth. After taking that

:53:29.:53:49.

penalty Pineau, staying on court, and that sales of the goal, and

:53:50.:54:00.

France can throw it back up again, Pineau slots into the centre,

:54:01.:54:08.

Pineau... And again, French shooting is hitting the post with annoying

:54:09.:54:11.

regularity as far as they are concerned. That is two attacks

:54:12.:54:18.

running that the French have clipped the post. Lacrabere, then Pineau.

:54:19.:54:26.

What more can you do? The coach of the French side, and there is the

:54:27.:54:32.

conversion rate for France. 39%, shots two goals. Russia picked it

:54:33.:54:38.

up. Free throw. Was always going to be ambitious to turn and shoot

:54:39.:54:43.

whilst standing there but she wins the free throw nevertheless. The

:54:44.:54:49.

referee steps in quickly to make sure it was only a free throw and

:54:50.:54:53.

not a penalty, goals are hard to come by at both ends, the French

:54:54.:54:57.

cannot quite get the measure of the shooting, and the Russians are

:54:58.:55:00.

finding it very tough defensively. They knew they would. Oh, smuggled

:55:01.:55:09.

in. Miss rate by the goalkeeper but the score again -- miss read. And

:55:10.:55:19.

that is a really good save. Now Russia charging forward. And the

:55:20.:55:31.

foot of Glaucer gets to it. That is her first miss in the competition

:55:32.:55:39.

from an actual shot. Again, Lacrabere cannot find a way through,

:55:40.:55:44.

the Russians are watching her like a hawk. She looks the gaps, will

:55:45.:55:49.

literally crossed the entire court. They know it and they are looking

:55:50.:55:54.

out for it. It is also widely France right-winger is not getting a huge

:55:55.:55:59.

amount of service. -- it is also why we. Dispossessed. Straight down the

:56:00.:56:06.

middle. She has bounced its too heart. Its sales over the top of the

:56:07.:56:18.

goal. And Vyakhireva, who stole it and passed it, turns to the bench

:56:19.:56:25.

with frustration. Good pressure, mind you, from the French defender.

:56:26.:56:35.

Back, France. Still no way through this defence. Excellent work again.

:56:36.:56:48.

She is having a superb final, Kuznetsova, and the frustration is

:56:49.:56:53.

beginning to show on Lacrabere's face. They might need an option to

:56:54.:57:04.

give Lacrabere a quick breather. They are making no inroads... Oh,

:57:05.:57:15.

fortuitous goal for France. Dembele, happy to get it, but a mistake from

:57:16.:57:18.

the keeper from that angle should have had it covered. France 10-13

:57:19.:57:26.

Russia. Russia: forward once more. The right back, Vyakhireva, and

:57:27.:57:32.

again, to Akopian, really well read, and is

:57:33.:57:54.

there a chance of a breakaway? Dembele, trying to get in... And

:57:55.:58:00.

scoring. France 11-13 Russia. It all came from the steel. Quick ball out

:58:01.:58:06.

and once the French managed to passed the Russians, two girls

:58:07.:58:14.

running, the captain, Dembele, and the ball, straight at the far post,

:58:15.:58:18.

and suddenly French tales are up again. Have they found their range?

:58:19.:58:32.

Has Lacrabere got a bit of a spur? France take their time to rebuild

:58:33.:58:37.

the attack. You always wonder why they don't suddenly turn around and

:58:38.:58:46.

spin back in again when the changes made, but they are very, very slowly

:58:47.:58:52.

taking their time. Ten minutes played. Russia 13-11 France. Miss

:58:53.:59:01.

connected. Not catching the ball the same pace she came on to court with.

:59:02.:59:07.

We'll walk again. The French defence has tightened up quite a bit.

:59:08.:59:13.

Indeed, still coming on in defence. France 11-13 Russia, either France

:59:14.:59:24.

or Russia are going to win their first ever Olympic gold medal. Oh,

:59:25.:59:30.

it is in. The goalkeeper slams the floor with her hand, she is very

:59:31.:59:35.

frustrated to have conceded that. It is just squeezed in under her left

:59:36.:59:39.

foot and Russia get their advantage back up to three goals. Vyakhireva,

:59:40.:59:50.

driving across. Shooting across her body, should not really have those

:59:51.:59:54.

opportunities, but it has happened twice. Back again, Niombla has a big

:59:55.:00:07.

shot on her but has not really used it in this game. Dembele, not really

:00:08.:00:16.

helping there, and why did she not run around herself? There was so

:00:17.:00:20.

much space! And the whistle has gone anyway after a very long pause. I

:00:21.:00:25.

think the Russians may keep possession, we wait to see, but it

:00:26.:00:34.

is Lacrabere who has gone down, she was shoulder barged out of the way.

:00:35.:00:39.

And looks to be in some pain. She does not go down easily either,

:00:40.:00:45.

Lacrabere, she can take the knocks, and that will be a big concern? But

:00:46.:00:50.

why not try to run for the gap? She could have got the penalty.

:00:51.:01:00.

The doctor is looking and huddling around her. France 11 and Russia 14,

:01:01.:01:13.

that is going to be a concern. He gives a thumbs up to someone but you

:01:14.:01:17.

don't want a star player down, especially if it is the left

:01:18.:01:20.

shoulder because that is the shooting arm. She isn't looking like

:01:21.:01:27.

she's going to be in any state to continue at the moment. Visibly

:01:28.:01:36.

distressed. Legitimate run, but she was caught. The coaches looking on.

:01:37.:01:48.

So far so good. For the Russians. They've got to stay focused. Off she

:01:49.:01:59.

goes for some more treatment. The problem with the French is that with

:02:00.:02:03.

the injuries they've had earlier in the competition, they only have two

:02:04.:02:18.

other left-handers. Ayglon takes over in that position. The Russians

:02:19.:02:24.

have a good opportunity through the misfortune of the right back. Not a

:02:25.:02:26.

huge angle but it was doable. Let's not worry too much in terms of

:02:27.:02:36.

the goal-scorers. She has a smile. Let's see how

:02:37.:03:05.

serious this is. If you go off, you have to missed three attacks. That

:03:06.:03:10.

is an attacking foul. Russia are on the break. France take it quickly.

:03:11.:03:29.

France really sooner rather than later need to stop to claw back.

:03:30.:03:34.

They've kept pace with Russia and the second half with four goals

:03:35.:03:38.

apiece but there is a 3-goal deficit they suffered in the first half

:03:39.:03:42.

which means they need to start to get back on level terms. Looks like

:03:43.:03:53.

she's all sorted to a certain extent. The Reef Road to the French.

:03:54.:04:07.

Kuznetsova is having a very good match so far. There they are! Pineau

:04:08.:04:16.

got a hit after she released the shot. You can see it. She is fouled.

:04:17.:04:35.

It was the shoulder, really of Dmitrieva. The injury problems are

:04:36.:04:41.

mounting. Pineau looks OK. She shakes her head and walks back down.

:04:42.:04:49.

The coach has been given a yellow card, presumably about the

:04:50.:04:57.

displeasure of those moves. Too many steps. Now here's the

:04:58.:05:21.

counterattack opportunity. There is the back of the net! France are back

:05:22.:05:28.

to within one goal. They can see the gold medal coming back into their

:05:29.:05:35.

sites. Her arm was grabbed as she went for the goal but she still

:05:36.:05:37.

found the back of the net, Dembele. There is a two-minute suspension. It

:05:38.:05:58.

was pulled away after the player had gone past. France need to capitalise

:05:59.:06:01.

on the extra player. They getting carried away in the

:06:02.:06:14.

attack and the momentum of the Russian attack they can't afford to

:06:15.:06:21.

lose too many of their experienced players.

:06:22.:06:43.

Straightforward for the French goalkeeper! Just diving down to her

:06:44.:06:50.

left and now here they come! Into the roof of the net and France are

:06:51.:06:55.

level. 14 minutes to go in this Olympic final and the French fans

:06:56.:06:56.

are on their feet. They were well beaten in goal. The

:06:57.:07:14.

goalkeeper couldn't do anything. It was a good defence by the French,

:07:15.:07:18.

the Russians running out of time on their attack. Suddenly, there is

:07:19.:07:25.

renewed energy not only in the team but in the fans as well.

:07:26.:07:46.

The Russians are back to full strength. She's going through a

:07:47.:07:53.

great spelling golfer France, Dancette. That was a great save.

:07:54.:08:04.

That was her fourth save from big shots. They've run off the left-hand

:08:05.:08:11.

side and emerging here into the right back position is once again

:08:12.:08:13.

France's top scorer. They're trying to keep the

:08:14.:08:27.

experienced players on here. Shildon all right, she's a left-hander.

:08:28.:08:38.

Half-hearted attempt. As a brake on the side her first goal of the game!

:08:39.:08:48.

And the initiative slips back to Russia. Easily picked up by

:08:49.:09:00.

Kuznetsova. Still had work to do and then they fired it into the back of

:09:01.:09:04.

the nets. France have called a time-out just to calm the players

:09:05.:09:09.

down a little bit because the whole action on court, the huge arena

:09:10.:09:12.

starting to get heated right now. They're saying they have to be even

:09:13.:09:39.

faster on the fast break but if it doesn't work, you have to slow it

:09:40.:09:44.

back down again. They keep on going too fast, but as the Russian

:09:45.:09:47.

players, they are dictating at the moment, as we see these great shots

:09:48.:09:57.

from the game so far. Taking those long-range shots and planting them

:09:58.:10:00.

into the top corner, those are the instructions. The Russians just want

:10:01.:10:10.

to get the initiative back. 12 minutes left in the Olympic final.

:10:11.:10:18.

Both sides looking for their first ever gold medal. Maybe Lacrabere

:10:19.:10:23.

wasn't fully fit. She's been taken off again.

:10:24.:10:34.

The Russians are moving the pace now. Good save! That was a big saved

:10:35.:10:44.

by Glauser and immediately Pineau says slowdown. Fast on the break,

:10:45.:10:51.

slow on the set piece. She did very well indeed, the goalkeeper. Pineau,

:10:52.:11:00.

rubbing the back of her leg, she got caught. Still no Lacrabere. Maybe

:11:01.:11:08.

those first few passes made her realise her shoulder isn't right.

:11:09.:11:16.

Ayglon, she's an experienced right back. Her club went bankrupt this

:11:17.:11:19.

year. It is given away! I thought a

:11:20.:11:42.

Russian hand guard got on that but it is out of play. Now here Russia

:11:43.:11:44.

again. Zhilinskayte, that is basically what

:11:45.:11:58.

the French have been told to do. Get up quickly, then take it slow. So,

:11:59.:12:04.

Dmitrieva in the centre. They've made two mistakes on the next two

:12:05.:12:11.

attacks and been punished each time, the French. That has opened up the

:12:12.:12:19.

wing! It has gone wide! Dembele gambled and went wide, and left so

:12:20.:12:31.

much space. Two attackers to mark. Bliznova should have done better.

:12:32.:12:37.

Her shoulder seemed to have taken a blow. We are into the final ten

:12:38.:12:43.

minutes of the Olympic final. There is the shot, it is pretty much at

:12:44.:12:51.

the keeper. Russia come forward with the fast play. She's brought down

:12:52.:12:57.

and Russia get possession once again. Landre balsa Rover and goes

:12:58.:13:05.

over the top of her, I'm surprised she didn't step on her. So,

:13:06.:13:15.

Bobrovnikova is in the thick of it as ever. Dmitrieva is having a good

:13:16.:13:24.

game in the centre. Vyakhireva, she has had a fair measure of success

:13:25.:13:31.

and these games. Bobrovnikova, cuts back. It is still a free throw. Time

:13:32.:13:44.

is running out for the French. That is how you do it! Vyakhireva says

:13:45.:13:58.

try that next time. Russia retake their two goal advantage. Vyakhireva

:13:59.:14:10.

putting it passed Glauser. Vyakhireva is back on the bench.

:14:11.:14:18.

Format goals from five shots. Dembele tried to drive-in. Here

:14:19.:14:26.

comes another fast break. Sen! Crucial one there for the French

:14:27.:14:29.

because they are only two goals down with eight minutes to go. The

:14:30.:14:35.

goalkeepers must be cursing the attack because they're giving away

:14:36.:14:40.

the ball cheaply, France, not listening to the instructions,

:14:41.:14:43.

playing too fast for the rain good. Their finishing is so frustrating.

:14:44.:14:48.

Down on for 2%, well below the standard. She did well to cut back

:14:49.:14:55.

diagonally, Bobrovnikova. First for higher but how important could that

:14:56.:15:00.

be? Pineau collected but then let her go. 14-17 to Russia with seven

:15:01.:15:12.

minutes left in this Olympic final. France need to get back on top. That

:15:13.:15:20.

is the way to get it started! The gap is back down to two with seven

:15:21.:15:25.

minutes. It was a nicely worked goal and she would have got a penalty

:15:26.:15:29.

anyway. Bobrovnikova well inside with that shot.

:15:30.:15:42.

The French bring to an end a run of three goals for the Russians. Both

:15:43.:15:48.

teams have had their moments of domination. And Kuznetsova, calling

:15:49.:16:02.

for the floor to be mocked, but it helps any rate that there is a team

:16:03.:16:05.

time-out by Russia, they need to reset rings. -- things.

:16:06.:16:39.

So the instruction is, you have got to drive in, to go on the attack. A

:16:40.:16:48.

little later, but a little faster. They are running into early and

:16:49.:16:51.

having to check the runs, the French. The Russians, well, they are

:16:52.:16:56.

punishing the French for their wastefulness in shooting at the

:16:57.:17:01.

other end. Six and a half minutes on the clock in the Olympic final.

:17:02.:17:07.

France 15-17 Russia, it has been a fascinating women's handball

:17:08.:17:19.

tournament. Driving in, and scoring the goal. The gap is back up to

:17:20.:17:26.

three now. The defending by Russia forcing them back again. The

:17:27.:17:28.

substitutions being made. Dancette Coming in for the injured

:17:29.:17:53.

right-winger, France was only one right-winger, and a very poor

:17:54.:17:56.

long-range shot that. But at least she has got the nerves to do it in

:17:57.:18:02.

her very first competition, she only played her first matches for France

:18:03.:18:06.

earlier this year in the qualifiers versus Iceland and Switzerland, this

:18:07.:18:10.

is opposition of a rather higher calibre.

:18:11.:18:21.

Bobrovnikova, again, crossed the goal, it has worked a couple of

:18:22.:18:27.

times before. And it is the shot that is starting to make the

:18:28.:18:30.

Russians believe it could either a year. You can see the reactions on

:18:31.:18:39.

the bench. But Dembele, 16-19, you just feel like we will get a

:18:40.:18:45.

grandstand finish. Great work from Bobrovnikova, but then straight up

:18:46.:18:52.

the other end for Dembele to fire it into the net. Three girls in it

:18:53.:18:58.

still. Given how hard the goals are to come by three is able to make up.

:18:59.:19:07.

Again, a late blow from the referee. Bobrovnikova, she probably agrees

:19:08.:19:12.

with the call. At the clock is ticking away relentlessly.

:19:13.:19:20.

Long-range shot, and a cheeky one there for the French to concede.

:19:21.:19:34.

Taking a chance, and Dmitriyeva coming away with a goal. Dembele,

:19:35.:19:40.

came across to help, but it did not matter, because Dmitriyeva scored.

:19:41.:19:49.

Here, France again. When the little bounce. Coming inside. Look how busy

:19:50.:19:54.

the Russian defences. France is trying their best to find some room.

:19:55.:19:58.

The coach is bellowing on the touchline to his defence. Dembele, a

:19:59.:20:03.

little shimmy, and a good goal from Gnonsiane Niombla but Fran

:20:04.:20:25.

still need to make up a 3-goal deficit. They will need a lot more

:20:26.:20:30.

than that, she has not taken her chances in the game so far.

:20:31.:20:35.

Bobrovnikova Coming back in. The industrious Dmitriyeva looking for

:20:36.:20:42.

space. And it is a free throw and the clock is ticking away

:20:43.:20:46.

relentlessly, the time is very much against France, and at the Russians

:20:47.:20:51.

look good for gold unless France can find something very special. And

:20:52.:20:56.

that is a penalty, again, driving into six metres. Vyakhireva, causing

:20:57.:21:10.

problems, and Dembele shops are over, and the coach knows that the

:21:11.:21:13.

opportunities for France are slipping away. Stepping up to take

:21:14.:21:16.

the penalty, Ilina, over the top, completely

:21:17.:21:32.

missed it, is it a lifeline for France? If it is, they need to sort

:21:33.:21:41.

out their shooting. And that is one back again. Within two now, France.

:21:42.:21:48.

The birthday girl on the bench watches, as far in the corner as you

:21:49.:21:55.

can get, great height. 83 kilometres an hour. We are inside the last two

:21:56.:22:01.

minutes. France are defending deep. The line will have a bit of space,

:22:02.:22:06.

but the Russians respond by putting in a second line player. Briefly she

:22:07.:22:11.

comes back out again. No way through, it is a free throw, but

:22:12.:22:16.

that is fine, it runs down the clock. The French are begging for

:22:17.:22:20.

the clock to be stopped, the Norwegian referee shakes her head,

:22:21.:22:27.

but a team time-out? Is it? They are taken, there you go. One and a half

:22:28.:22:31.

minutes to go. He wants the players to be more

:22:32.:23:02.

aggressive in defence, go up quick and then let the Russians drive in

:23:03.:23:06.

for the attacking foul so we can turn it over. We see some of the

:23:07.:23:10.

action from the game so far. France Trail by two. One and a half minutes

:23:11.:23:17.

to go. Sharing the goal, then sitting down and realising they are

:23:18.:23:23.

still not quite there yet. Pineau, has done so much. So, defending a

:23:24.:23:29.

long way and. Try to steal the ball. One and a half minutes is enough

:23:30.:23:33.

time but if Russia keep their head then the gold medal is theirs. They

:23:34.:23:42.

have had three passes. Four, five. Surely, one pass and a short... Oh!

:23:43.:23:51.

Diagonal shot again! The bench is in raptures and that could be it. Here,

:23:52.:23:58.

France, it is now or never. The whistle goes for a free throw. One

:23:59.:24:02.

minute left. They are three goals behind. A little fumble. Picked up

:24:03.:24:08.

again, and the back of the net is found, 50 seconds. We see the goal

:24:09.:24:20.

again, Pineau fumbled it, but somehow the situation is rescued, a

:24:21.:24:23.

bit of luck for the French. The coach cannot believe it. The French

:24:24.:24:29.

are individually marking, exactly the right thing, right through the

:24:30.:24:37.

middle, looking for the foul, and Vyakhireva gets it, and the clock is

:24:38.:24:42.

being run down. And another girl, and that is it. Russia will take the

:24:43.:24:48.

gold. France tried so hard but in the end of their work to many

:24:49.:24:52.

mistakes. Their heads are dropping ever so slightly, the gap is too big

:24:53.:24:57.

now. Maybe one last goal for the honour? Pineau Does not look

:24:58.:25:05.

interested. There it is. Gold for Russia. What a moment for their

:25:06.:25:06.

team. We can take you across to a packed

:25:07.:25:15.

Maracana Stadium where the host nation Brazil are hoping to win the

:25:16.:25:20.

gold medal. We join it at the Brazilian national anthem.

:25:21.:27:07.

Sounds like an incredible atmosphere. At half-time in this

:27:08.:27:14.

game and we will speak to three of the gold medal stars from the Team

:27:15.:27:19.

GB hockey finalist yesterday, but commentary of this gold medal match

:27:20.:27:22.

comes from Kevin Caliban and Alistair man.

:27:23.:27:30.

Try telling those inside the Maracana Stadium that this is not

:27:31.:27:37.

the World Cup final. The two most successful football nations on earth

:27:38.:27:40.

meet in one of the most iconic stadiums in the world, both hoping

:27:41.:27:44.

to achieve something neither has done before, securing an Olympic

:27:45.:27:49.

gold-medal. If that is not tantalising enough it is also an

:27:50.:27:53.

opportunity for the host nation to seek revenge for a humiliating

:27:54.:27:58.

defeat two years ago to Germany, 7-1, ending their hopes of winning

:27:59.:28:03.

their home World Cup, a moment that plunged this proud footballing

:28:04.:28:09.

nation into a state of dejection and total disbelief. In reality it means

:28:10.:28:14.

there is an enormous amount of expectation resting on the young

:28:15.:28:19.

shoulders of what is ostensibly the under 23 team. You are allowed three

:28:20.:28:24.

overage players. They have kept the same starting XI who got them this

:28:25.:28:28.

far. Their three overage players are in goal, Augusto, and of course,

:28:29.:28:42.

Neymar. He has so far been outstanding. He has never shirked

:28:43.:28:48.

responsibility. He, more than any other, feels as though there is some

:28:49.:28:53.

sort of redemption to be gained from that 7-1 capitulation against

:28:54.:28:59.

Germany. Germany, so far, have outscored the hosts. They have

:29:00.:29:06.

scored 21 goals in five games. Like the hosts, they failed the same

:29:07.:29:10.

starting XI, only two of their three overage players are included, the

:29:11.:29:18.

Bender brothers. The other, Peterson, takes a place on the

:29:19.:29:23.

bench, despite being their joint top scorer. In charge of Germany, the

:29:24.:29:41.

former international striker Horst Hrubesch. Germany showed two years

:29:42.:29:45.

ago they were able to ignore the sense of occasion and focus on the

:29:46.:29:52.

task at hand regardless of whether they would be cast as the ultimate

:29:53.:29:57.

party poopers. If ever there was a set of players capable of breaking

:29:58.:30:00.

hearts all over again, it is surely the Germans. Even if on this

:30:01.:30:05.

extraordinary occasion it is that under 23 side, and not be seen

:30:06.:30:13.

yours. -- the seniors. Only one of either squad was even available for

:30:14.:30:21.

the World Cup final two years ago. Neymar, he was injured for that

:30:22.:30:26.

much. So in reality a revenge mission is certainly not on the

:30:27.:30:29.

agenda of those out there this evening.

:30:30.:30:35.

If there's one side you feel can spoil the party, who can once again

:30:36.:30:42.

do what the senior side have done, it is the German side. It certainly

:30:43.:30:47.

is and you look throughout the side, and you have out here so much

:30:48.:30:53.

experience, so much first-class experience. So they used to these

:30:54.:31:00.

locations. -- these big locations. That is what is playing in their

:31:01.:31:06.

hands. In the front four of the Brazilians, they are very talented.

:31:07.:31:10.

That front four, they can cause Germany a lot of problems this

:31:11.:31:19.

evening. The Brazilian coach was quick to point out to the pre-match

:31:20.:31:24.

press conference that how can it be a revenge mission when nobody out

:31:25.:31:27.

there played their part two years ago? Neymar will feel this is an

:31:28.:31:38.

opportunity to make up for being injured in that semifinal. He

:31:39.:31:45.

certainly wants to be very determined. And he wants to earn his

:31:46.:31:52.

country their first gold medal. It is a very different task for Brazil

:31:53.:31:57.

this evening from the semifinal with Honduras. Germany are much better

:31:58.:32:09.

than Honduras. Scoring within 14 seconds, that set the tone for the

:32:10.:32:13.

game. They weren't as dynamic, Germany, against Nigeria as you'd

:32:14.:32:19.

have hoped. There are different dynamics and this game and it will

:32:20.:32:26.

be intriguing. The crowd are a sell-out crowd. Seven Olympic

:32:27.:32:35.

football medals between them but neither of these great footballing

:32:36.:32:43.

nations have ever won a gold medal. The feature of the German play is

:32:44.:32:54.

how the fullbacks push on. Brazil's quartet of attacking players, led by

:32:55.:33:05.

Neymar, and Gabriel Jesus, they will try to exploit the fact the two

:33:06.:33:09.

fullbacks push on as regularly as they do. It is the movement, Gabriel

:33:10.:33:22.

and Gabriel Jesus... Brandt tries to create the genuine first opening.

:33:23.:33:26.

Good counterattack from Germany. We've seen it so often throughout

:33:27.:33:34.

this tournament. It's how he drives inside, Gnabry, and creates

:33:35.:33:45.

goal-scoring opportunities. Brandt also likes to find himself in good

:33:46.:33:51.

goal-scoring positions. Kevin alluded to the amount of

:33:52.:33:55.

experienced... That Germany have at their disposal. Almost every single

:33:56.:34:02.

member of the 18 have a least one season in the Bundesliga behind

:34:03.:34:08.

them. Everywhere you look within their ranks, from the goalkeeper

:34:09.:34:15.

Timo Horn, right through to Arsenal's Serge Gnabry, they are all

:34:16.:34:24.

players who are freshfaced, but have an enormous wealth of experience.

:34:25.:34:33.

Ginter was part of the World Cup squad that lifted the big trophy

:34:34.:34:40.

itself two years ago. Excellent cover, just tracking

:34:41.:34:51.

the run of Barbosa. So invariably you'll find Neymar and Barbosa

:34:52.:35:01.

picking each other out. We mentioned about Brazil's full-backs but

:35:02.:35:08.

Brazil's full-backs like high energy. They get forward really

:35:09.:35:17.

well. Gabriel Jesus scored a couple of goals in the semifinal.

:35:18.:35:25.

Manchester City player, officially. Weverton thumps it into the depths

:35:26.:35:31.

of the stands. Just as we talk about the Germany full-backs, right on

:35:32.:35:37.

cue, Klostermann is onside, it is overhit a little bit but as we were

:35:38.:35:43.

saying at the start, so many different facets of this game that

:35:44.:35:47.

are really intriguing. How can Germany block Brazil and Brazil with

:35:48.:35:51.

the free-flowing style they play with, with the front four staying

:35:52.:35:55.

forward, leaving gaps, but they rely heavily on the attacking threat they

:35:56.:36:02.

have, the Brazil side. The atmosphere is fantastic. The

:36:03.:36:11.

referee, by the way, is from Iran. He has decided not to brandish a

:36:12.:36:20.

card to Lars Bender, but he will be on his final warning, you fancy.

:36:21.:36:24.

He's lucky to get away with that. That is clear obstruction. There's

:36:25.:36:30.

two, the two Bender twins, bringing experience to this side. When the

:36:31.:36:36.

full-backs get forward, those two, Sven Bender and Lars Bender, they

:36:37.:36:39.

have the awareness to sit in and cover.

:36:40.:36:50.

Renato Augusto, one of those overage players permitted for the Brazilian

:36:51.:36:54.

side. I think Manchester City are going to

:36:55.:37:15.

enjoy watching Gabriel Jesus when he eventually comes to the Premier

:37:16.:37:19.

League. Such a dynamic player, a real threat in front of goal.

:37:20.:37:25.

Coming into tonight's game, Gabriel Barbosa has three, Gabriel Jesus has

:37:26.:37:38.

three, Neymar has the grave. The front four has 11 between them.

:37:39.:37:50.

Germany with six goals for Gnabry and seven for Nils Petersen, so they

:37:51.:37:53.

both have plenty of goals between them. What is most noticeable is

:37:54.:37:59.

that Brazil are yet to concede a single goal in this tournament so

:38:00.:38:03.

far. We haven't said that too often in a Brazil side! As the Germany,

:38:04.:38:10.

they haven't conceded a single goal in their last three matches, so what

:38:11.:38:12.

is going to give? Neymar is determined enough to

:38:13.:38:52.

retain possession. He got his shirt tugged as he did. And that was

:38:53.:38:59.

Bender. Essentially for Brazil, with Neymar, he likes to play through the

:39:00.:39:05.

middle but when he drops deep, Luan drops deep so there is good

:39:06.:39:14.

possession for them. Germany have to try to silence the crowd. They have

:39:15.:39:21.

not managed that in the opening nine minutes. The flag goes up. 79,000

:39:22.:39:28.

similarly so inside the Maracana. That is correct from the assistant

:39:29.:39:33.

referee from the far side. He strayed offside, Gabriel Jesus. But

:39:34.:39:38.

the atmosphere is electric in the Maracana tonight.

:39:39.:39:49.

Germany silenced the crowd two years ago, banging in so many goals. It

:39:50.:40:00.

was a moment really when you had to rub your eyes and check what was

:40:01.:40:04.

going on in front of you, whether you are a neutral or a fan of

:40:05.:40:08.

Brazil, it was an astonishing evening.

:40:09.:40:15.

That was a decent effort! That was Julian Brandt, who almost dead

:40:16.:40:29.

silence the Maracana. He is a wonderful talent, plays the Bayer

:40:30.:40:33.

Leverkusen, has plenty of Champions League experience, and a senior cap

:40:34.:40:37.

as well, and he almost gave Germany the opener. It's a free kick. This

:40:38.:40:45.

is an opportunity to have a look at that effort again. Well, Weverton is

:40:46.:40:51.

well beaten in goal. Good effort from Bender to find Gnabry. It is a

:40:52.:41:02.

lovely strike and the goalkeeper as well beaten. He's so unlucky he

:41:03.:41:07.

can't get enough to dip it under the crossbar. And there's the warning.

:41:08.:41:19.

Full quality in this side. Brazil are throwing bodies forward, they

:41:20.:41:22.

getting caught out, too many getting advanced of the ball. It was

:41:23.:41:29.

actually Sven Bender that picked Gnabry out. He had the vision to

:41:30.:41:34.

spot that he had so much space on the left hand side. Max Meyer,

:41:35.:41:46.

another wonderfully gifted footballer, plays his football for

:41:47.:41:51.

Schalke, made his Bundesliga debut at 17. He, too, has a full cap. He's

:41:52.:42:00.

a super player. Six goals, eight assists last season, you can see his

:42:01.:42:06.

contribution to a top side. Just shows the strength within this

:42:07.:42:12.

German side and scored in general. Brazil are going to have to earn the

:42:13.:42:17.

right to win this gold medal. No matter how much support they get

:42:18.:42:22.

from the Maracana or the will of 200 million people all over the country.

:42:23.:42:26.

They have work to do. You can hear the roar every time the

:42:27.:42:47.

ball gets into the possession of Neymar but Germany are brilliantly

:42:48.:42:52.

organised and terrific the talented. That was a half chance for Neymar.

:42:53.:42:57.

Could he have taken the strike early on his left foot? Always wants the

:42:58.:43:01.

stronger right foot but it was a good ball.

:43:02.:43:26.

Gabriel Barbosa, will Manchester United are one of the sites linked

:43:27.:43:32.

with him. And Luan. Neymar again! Santos with a cross

:43:33.:43:50.

and a half chance! That was Luan straight into the ground. And it

:43:51.:43:55.

lost much of its staying as a consequence but that has got the

:43:56.:44:00.

Maracana buzzing again. -- it lost much of its stinger. That was

:44:01.:44:04.

brilliantly worked from Brazil from out to the right-hand side, starting

:44:05.:44:12.

with Gabriel Barbosa, freeing up Renato Augusto, who then freed up

:44:13.:44:18.

Neymar, who picked out Douglas Santos. Could he have done better

:44:19.:44:22.

with the strike, Luan? It is a very good stand up and I think you should

:44:23.:44:28.

have done better. I think it was a fairly easy one to hit. He gets the

:44:29.:44:33.

strike on target but not hold of it at all. Excellent chance for Brazil.

:44:34.:44:37.

They could have another one here because a free kick has been

:44:38.:44:39.

awarded, too. That is retrieved by Gabriel

:44:40.:45:05.

Barbosa. Picking out Neymar. Walace. Try to work something, Luan. Trawled

:45:06.:45:11.

on the ball at the vital moment. You could hear 79,000 groans. He was

:45:12.:45:17.

looking for the past before he had it under control. Excellent movement

:45:18.:45:25.

from Neymar. Plenty to admire from both teams. This will be a titanic

:45:26.:45:32.

tussle, no mistake. Gabriel Barbosa. Followed by Gnabry. Neymar was

:45:33.:45:43.

closest but time for Horn to gather it up. Gabriel Barbosa almost runs

:45:44.:45:49.

through players with his strength and physicality. Gabriel Jesus, and

:45:50.:45:55.

the other side, looks to come off the left-hand side onto his stronger

:45:56.:46:03.

right foot. Neymar tries to nudge it around Bender. Play on was initially

:46:04.:46:11.

waved but there was not much of an advantage for Brazil so it is now a

:46:12.:46:24.

free kick to the hosts. High boot. Good opportunity. We'll Neymar take

:46:25.:46:32.

it on? It looks like he is going to. Half a dozen attempts from this kind

:46:33.:46:37.

of distance. One went into the side netting, forcing a save from the

:46:38.:46:40.

Honda was Cooper from the other. Two or three went straight into the

:46:41.:46:46.

centre of the wall. -- the Honduras keeper.

:46:47.:47:16.

In truth that was quite easily dealt with. There is Neymar again. He

:47:17.:47:34.

was so determined in the semifinal. He got rough treatment, he was

:47:35.:47:41.

battered and bruised, but never shied away from the responsibility

:47:42.:47:48.

of leading the side by example. Worth noting that like in many

:47:49.:47:52.

tournaments there is no obligation under

:47:53.:48:04.

Fifa rules for clubs to release players. But Neymar practically

:48:05.:48:11.

demanded he was released. There was no debate about it. There was

:48:12.:48:16.

physicality in the semifinals but the Brazilian players themselves can

:48:17.:48:19.

cope with it and from a defence of point of view they have one or two

:48:20.:48:22.

players who do like a physical challenge. They have a flamboyant,

:48:23.:48:29.

skilful element, but also an element that can mix it up and cope with the

:48:30.:48:40.

physical side. This is actually the fourth time that Brazil have reached

:48:41.:48:47.

the gold medal match. They have lost all three previous including in

:48:48.:48:50.

London, surprisingly defeated and Mexico. -- defeated by. Luan, clever

:48:51.:48:59.

ball, difficult to defend, but defended it was by Suele. Excellent

:49:00.:49:11.

play by Luan, shifting it onto his left foot, playing in behind.

:49:12.:49:15.

Gabriel Barbosa checked his run, expecting it to be stood up to the

:49:16.:49:21.

far post. If he continued the run I think he had a tap in. A damp

:49:22.:49:30.

evening. The temperature is warm but not too warm. The corner is

:49:31.:49:40.

brilliantly swung in. And Horn got some sort of clearance on it. No one

:49:41.:49:48.

really attacked it in the Brazil side, as a consequence of Germany

:49:49.:49:53.

were able to get it away. Excellent ball played in. Brazil have

:49:54.:49:57.

certainly had the better of the opening 20 minutes of this game. Of

:49:58.:50:03.

course Germany had the better chance with Brandt hitting the bar but

:50:04.:50:06.

Priscilla have really grown into the game and created a few openings with

:50:07.:50:09.

out any real clear-cut chances at the moment. -- but Brazil have

:50:10.:50:14.

really grown into the game. Marquinhos. The player other than

:50:15.:50:23.

the front four who has scored in this tournament. Scored one of the

:50:24.:50:30.

six goals against Honduras in the semifinal.

:50:31.:50:48.

Luan. Caught in possession. But it was a foul, says the referee. It is

:50:49.:50:58.

fair to say that Bender does not agree with the decision. He took a

:50:59.:51:04.

chance, Luan, were still sending bodies forward very quickly. Five or

:51:05.:51:10.

six players in advance of him. That is why ending was so frustrated

:51:11.:51:13.

because he knew the break was on for Germany. Suele. I Augusto,

:51:14.:51:39.

immediately finding Neymar. Brandt. The challenge again by Augusto, he

:51:40.:51:46.

is playing well. On toward Gabriel Barbosa. He could not take it on his

:51:47.:51:52.

stride. It is when Brazil get to the edge of that area, they are just

:51:53.:52:01.

thirsting for the opening goal. This home crowd... That is when the crowd

:52:02.:52:06.

come to life, when they reach the final third. They want attacking

:52:07.:52:12.

players. Both full-backs like to get forward in support. And it is the

:52:13.:52:16.

amount of bodies they get forward, they will be exposed at times, but

:52:17.:52:21.

the movement and intricacy of the passing, that is what frees up the

:52:22.:52:22.

players and gives them the chances. A good corner. The smallest of touch

:52:23.:52:47.

is from Rodrigo Caio, Augusto is wondering if you might not have been

:52:48.:52:51.

the better placed person to go for it. It was a decent chance.

:52:52.:52:56.

Klostermann, the left-back, did not pick up either Brazilian player.

:52:57.:53:05.

Most of the Brazilian players play their club football in Brazil.

:53:06.:53:23.

Marquinhos, at Paris St German is an exception. Although Gabriel Jesus is

:53:24.:53:30.

a Manchester City player who still plays his club football with Palm

:53:31.:53:46.

heiress. -- Palmeiras. The zillion club sides with talent are

:53:47.:53:49.

constantly scouted by the top sides in Europe. -- Brazilian club side.

:53:50.:53:56.

Excellent movement to get forward. Try to stand it up to the far post

:53:57.:54:04.

with Selke and Gnabry making up the ground to get into the penalty area.

:54:05.:54:13.

We are at the midpoint of a fascinating first half. It has

:54:14.:54:20.

certainly lived up to the pre-match hype. Here is Neymar. Drawing the

:54:21.:54:28.

foul. Expecting to be filed, I think, by Bender. Yes, his movement

:54:29.:54:37.

again, coming deep, very elusive, difficult to mark. That is why

:54:38.:54:45.

Bender has got to pick up the runs of Neymar. Douglas Santos. Just

:54:46.:55:06.

about cleared by Del Potro. -- by Ginter. Rodrigo Caio. Here is

:55:07.:55:18.

Neymar. A free kick again. The referee waiting to see if Brazil had

:55:19.:55:26.

an advantage. The ball was actually getting away from Neymar, but it is

:55:27.:55:30.

a clear foul. This is a little closer to goal. Right in Neymar

:55:31.:55:41.

territory. He has started the game well, hasn't he? Could this be the

:55:42.:55:52.

moment? Injured in the World Cup quarterfinal, in tears when he

:55:53.:55:55.

realised his World Cup was over before the semifinal even took place

:55:56.:56:02.

against Germany. Desperate to try to make up for his absence, which, it

:56:03.:56:10.

certainly cannot be blamed on him, that defeat, but the fact he could

:56:11.:56:15.

not participate means that he feels there is unfinished business he has

:56:16.:56:25.

to complete. Those magical boots are the key to unlocking Germany here.

:56:26.:56:35.

Here comes Neymar. It is in the back of the net! Right on cue, the

:56:36.:56:43.

darling of Brazil provides the opening goal, and you can probably

:56:44.:56:47.

hear that the roof of the Maracana Stadium is starting to reverberate.

:56:48.:56:50.

Drizzle are ahead in the 27th minute. What a goal. Truly

:56:51.:57:02.

outstanding from Neymar. Horn in goal cannot be anywhere near it, it

:57:03.:57:06.

is the power and precision of the crossbar, he could not have struck

:57:07.:57:12.

it any better, and what a super goal to open what has been a very

:57:13.:57:16.

entertaining half an hour in this gold medal match. What a goal. I

:57:17.:57:24.

said at the start, tell me this is not the World Cup final. It is what

:57:25.:57:36.

they wanted to see two years ago at the Maracana Stadium. But this is

:57:37.:57:41.

the second opportunity on home soil. And Neymar is not going to pass up

:57:42.:57:46.

the opportunity this time. That is the way he feels, it is the way we

:57:47.:57:51.

Brazilian supporters feel. Brazil 1-0 Germany. We spoke of revenge. It

:57:52.:57:59.

has been downplayed with the Brazilian squad and management team

:58:00.:58:02.

but certainly not with the supporters. They want revenge

:58:03.:58:07.

against Germany and there is no better man than Neymar to open the

:58:08.:58:12.

scoring. There is over an hour of this game still to go and the

:58:13.:58:15.

celebrations cannot get too exuberant. But there is no silencing

:58:16.:58:22.

the home crowd today. Just listen to the noise. Fantastic. Something we

:58:23.:58:35.

spoke about the semifinal as well. If they wanted one gold medal from

:58:36.:58:39.

this tournament, the Brazilian public, it was the football. They

:58:40.:58:43.

are certainly on the road to getting it now. We were hoping the host

:58:44.:58:51.

nation might win the women's version as well but they were surprisingly

:58:52.:58:56.

defeated in the semifinals, in fact they did not even get the bronze

:58:57.:58:59.

medal, defeated in that match as well. That heat even more pressure

:59:00.:59:09.

on the men's team. -- heaped. But look at the stands, the crowd, it is

:59:10.:59:15.

just phenomenal. I am sure that on beaches up and down the country, in

:59:16.:59:20.

houses up and down the country, there are similar scenes of

:59:21.:59:24.

unbridled joy. But there is still one hour of action to go. And

:59:25.:59:29.

Germany have the quality to find their way back into the game. He is

:59:30.:59:37.

a com, with major and Gnabry -- here they come, with Meyer. Germany are

:59:38.:59:49.

so effective when Brazil do give the ball way in the middle third or the

:59:50.:59:53.

final third, they are so effective at moving it quickly and setting up

:59:54.:59:58.

Gnabry, he is the real threat, and he has started the game well. Zeca

:59:59.:00:03.

knew exactly what he was doing because he was beaten for pace. An

:00:04.:00:09.

easy decision for the referee to give the yellow card. It is one

:00:10.:00:14.

thing to say to a senior side, be cool and manage the game and do the

:00:15.:00:19.

right things, but these are players of 19, 20, 21 years old. It is not

:00:20.:00:24.

quite as easy to be as cool under pressure. Can they defend this free

:00:25.:00:31.

kick? They almost don't. It clips the frame of the goal for a second

:00:32.:00:36.

time, I think it was Suele who got a touch, deflected on the way through.

:00:37.:00:41.

I think it came off Marquinhos in the end, he diverted over his

:00:42.:00:51.

crossbar. Excellent movement from Selke, but they get away with it,

:00:52.:00:59.

Brazil. And another terrific save! Ginter, tries to get the rebound in,

:01:00.:01:04.

and again Weverton comes to the rescue! A couple of a fight. So. --

:01:05.:01:19.

a couple of vital stops. The awareness and division and the

:01:20.:01:22.

technique. Excellent striking, good from Weverton.

:01:23.:01:30.

You can hear the screaming audibly around the Maracana as it looked

:01:31.:01:36.

like Germany would going to draw level. It is a fabulous occasion, it

:01:37.:01:45.

really years. He did well, Weverton, to get some power and palm it away.

:01:46.:01:51.

He didn't leave an easy tap in for the Germans. They couldn't adjust

:01:52.:01:57.

their feet and get the strike on target. It looked as though Ginter

:01:58.:02:06.

might be despatching the rebound but he didn't get the connection on the

:02:07.:02:07.

ball. That is a foul and a free kick to

:02:08.:02:25.

Germany. It is a good five minutes since they conceded the goal.

:02:26.:02:31.

They've got to be careful, Brazil. Going in front is great but they are

:02:32.:02:36.

retreating too deep, allowing too much pressure. And we've spoken

:02:37.:02:40.

about the quality within this German side, they could hurt Brazil if they

:02:41.:02:45.

continued to drop deep like this. It is an easy thing to say but the

:02:46.:02:49.

Brazilian players can't afford to get wrapped up in the atmosphere, in

:02:50.:02:53.

the occasion. They've got to keep focused.

:02:54.:03:15.

There are five players in advanced positions but the pass was not good

:03:16.:03:22.

enough. Toljan intervenes for Germany. He chose the wrong option.

:03:23.:03:27.

There was Neymar in the middle, there was a great chance for Luan to

:03:28.:03:35.

pick him out. It is so frenetic, all a little bit lasted. The intensity

:03:36.:03:37.

is so apparent. That is a foul right on the edge of

:03:38.:03:50.

the area, Gabriel Jesus diving in. I can see the referee giving another

:03:51.:03:54.

card out here. He's high, Gabriel Jesus. He's late, he's from behind,

:03:55.:04:03.

poor challenge from him. This is a chance for Germany. They are

:04:04.:04:08.

excellent from set plays. I think Meyer will be on them and with the

:04:09.:04:12.

power and strength in the air they have, the Germans, it is a real

:04:13.:04:14.

opportunity for them. If Germany were to equalise, it

:04:15.:04:27.

would be difficult to say they haven't deserved it. Hrubesch would

:04:28.:04:35.

be delighted with the response from his players.

:04:36.:04:41.

It hits the frame of the girl again! Well, Sven Bender stooped, flicked

:04:42.:04:52.

it goal bound, couldn't score. It is a well played free kick. It is the

:04:53.:05:03.

movement from Sven Bender, getting across Augusto, trying to get the

:05:04.:05:10.

header downwards, he can't. So unlucky to hit the crossbar. Brazil

:05:11.:05:17.

might be in front, but Germany have had better efforts and have hit the

:05:18.:05:23.

frame of the goal on three opportunities. It has been a superb

:05:24.:05:29.

opening 35 minutes. Germany have had their chances but Brazil are a real

:05:30.:05:33.

threat when they get into this sort of area.

:05:34.:05:57.

A real excellent injection of pace by the role Wideman, Gabriel Barbosa

:05:58.:06:06.

and Gabriel Jesus. It is the little one tos they play, it is difficult

:06:07.:06:10.

for the German defenders to track their runs. As you saw, there are

:06:11.:06:19.

pockets of German supporters, but, as you can understand, they are

:06:20.:06:21.

enormously outnumbered. Not really had a sustained spell of

:06:22.:06:55.

possession since they took the lead, have they, Brazil? They are settling

:06:56.:07:02.

the game down here. It is a more experienced Renato Augusto, he is

:07:03.:07:06.

settling the players down. A little bit of possession won't do them any

:07:07.:07:13.

harm. Renato Augusto spent four years in the Bundesliga with Bayer

:07:14.:07:19.

Leverkusen. 28 years old now. Current Brazilian international. So

:07:20.:07:28.

much depends on the likes of him and obviously Neymar, but particularly

:07:29.:07:32.

Renato Augusto now they are in front to try to keep the emotions of the

:07:33.:07:35.

younger players from getting carried away. Another Mexican wave breaks

:07:36.:07:44.

out. Still not afraid of sending bodies forward, the Brazilians.

:07:45.:07:50.

Santos getting forward beyond Luan and Luan should have picked him up

:07:51.:07:54.

because it was a real chance to pick the left-back and get into a good

:07:55.:07:55.

position. This is what they needed to do in

:07:56.:08:33.

the minute straight after they took the lead, Brazil, but Germany didn't

:08:34.:08:36.

let them. It is an excellent spell of possession for Brazil. Free kick

:08:37.:08:49.

to Germany. Neymar on Sule. What a goal, super goal. Did it get a

:08:50.:08:56.

slight touch coming over? It was the pace and power on the strike that

:08:57.:09:01.

beat him. It is precision, such a fabulous goal.

:09:02.:09:18.

Could have done better from that position, Germany. Yes, that is

:09:19.:09:27.

Brazil again, becoming exposed, sending bodies forward which gives a

:09:28.:09:32.

chance for Meyer to pick out Gnabry. His chosen the wrong option in

:09:33.:09:39.

picking out Selke. Two bronze medals is all Germany have managed

:09:40.:09:45.

throughout their many years of attempting to win the Olympic

:09:46.:09:49.

football tournament. They had a dreadful spell at not being able to

:09:50.:09:53.

even qualify for the Olympic tournament. Prior to this, the last

:09:54.:09:58.

participation was in Seoul in 1988. Luan tries to tiptoe his way through

:09:59.:10:10.

and he wins a corner. That's the movement I spoke about, with Neymar

:10:11.:10:14.

and Luan, they interchange positions very well. Luan recognised there was

:10:15.:10:23.

space centrally. Just couldn't quite get the strike away, and it was good

:10:24.:10:25.

defending from Ginter in the end. Playing his part in geeing up the

:10:26.:10:37.

Maracana. They love that! No end product, but

:10:38.:11:01.

he is a showman, and he is on one of the biggest stages of all. Probably

:11:02.:11:07.

a little early for his tricks. We need the second goal before, then

:11:08.:11:12.

I'm sure they will see the party pieces coming out.

:11:13.:11:41.

One or two teams might have started to capitulate with the momentum that

:11:42.:11:48.

was building up and the atmosphere in the stadium against them. This

:11:49.:11:53.

German side are magnificent. Their character and question. That

:11:54.:11:57.

deflected shot made it easy for Weverton together. He is a threat,

:11:58.:12:02.

Meyer, centrally. It was a good block from Koster. He didn't deal

:12:03.:12:12.

with it in the most comfortable of manner but he managed to keep it

:12:13.:12:18.

from going over the line. Took it very close to the line. He

:12:19.:12:23.

recognised it was backing off. He knew he was going to be travelling

:12:24.:12:27.

back towards his own goal line so he had the presence to palm the ball in

:12:28.:12:34.

front of the line. A couple of glimpses of the Brazilian coach. He

:12:35.:12:45.

has been coaching for many years in Brazil, almost always youth teams,

:12:46.:12:54.

under 20, U21. And the under 23s. Not one of the more high-profile

:12:55.:12:57.

coaches but he will have the freedom of Brazil if he can guide his side

:12:58.:13:01.

to their first ever Olympic gold medal. Extremely impressed with this

:13:02.:13:11.

man, Renato Augusto. He has settled them down when it looked like they

:13:12.:13:17.

would getting back on top, Germany, after conceding. He has settled

:13:18.:13:21.

Brazil down and slowed the game down a little. It's worth reminding, 12

:13:22.:13:30.

goals in five games prior to this game, yet to concede in 43.5 minutes

:13:31.:13:36.

as well. They could keep another clean sheet. And get the gold medal.

:13:37.:13:43.

That would be some achievement if you can win the tournament without

:13:44.:13:48.

conceding. Particularly with the sides they've played against. Yellow

:13:49.:13:57.

card for Gabriel Barbosa. Just for the way in which he held Sven Bender

:13:58.:14:06.

back. Has the nickname Gabby goal. He so far has two in the tournament.

:14:07.:14:18.

The goal was on the 27th minute and since then Germany have been

:14:19.:14:28.

arguably the better side. I think we feel they could and should have

:14:29.:14:35.

equalised. Timo Horn hasn't had too much to do, in reality. The only

:14:36.:14:40.

other chance was Luan with the crossing, and Douglas Santos getting

:14:41.:14:47.

forward. Germany have had some good chances themselves. They've hit the

:14:48.:14:49.

woodwork twice. It is a late one but the referee has

:14:50.:14:56.

let it go or he didn't see it. Klostermann. Bender. Meyer Full.

:14:57.:15:34.

Ginter. Toljan. Young players, ostensibly, this German side, but

:15:35.:15:37.

the way in which they have quelled the sphere has been so admirable.

:15:38.:15:47.

There is Neymar. Terrific ball. No offside. Gabriel Barbosa, was he

:15:48.:15:54.

caught by Klostermann? Yes, says the referee. He did all the hard work,

:15:55.:16:01.

Klostermann. Gabriel Barbosa had the run of him, brilliant awareness from

:16:02.:16:06.

Neymar to pick him out, superb pace from Klostermann to get back, he did

:16:07.:16:12.

not need to commit to the challenge, it is a chance here for Brazil. Only

:16:13.:16:18.

one minute of added time and we are now entering the second minute of

:16:19.:16:21.

it, so it will literally be this free kick dispatched into the area

:16:22.:16:28.

and then the consequences of it, then the referee will blow. You

:16:29.:16:39.

imagine if Brazil can get second here... Headed our way. The referee

:16:40.:16:47.

blows his whistle. A magnificent first half. Exactly what the script

:16:48.:16:52.

writers wanted. Brazil in front, and Neymar the goal-scorer, from a free

:16:53.:16:57.

kick. So much to admire from both teams. Germany have hit the frame of

:16:58.:17:02.

the goal on a couple of occasions, this is far from over, Brazil 1-0

:17:03.:17:04.

Germany. We shall we join them for the second

:17:05.:17:18.

half of on BBC Two. Here on BBC 4-wheel something else in store.

:17:19.:17:29.

Later tonight, live on BBC Four, 1am the bronze medal matches in the tae

:17:30.:17:33.

kwon do. Bianca Walton lost her semifinal but can still win a bronze

:17:34.:17:41.

medal, and also, Mohammed Cho, in the same situation going for a

:17:42.:17:50.

bronze medal in the tae kwon do. Meantime, we have a little treat for

:17:51.:17:55.

you. Can we have a huge round of applause for gold hockey stars? Last

:17:56.:18:02.

night they did something incredible and won a gold medal for Team GB.

:18:03.:18:13.

Have you stopped in the last 24 hours? It has been a whirlwind. Not

:18:14.:18:20.

had much sleep whatsoever. What time did you try to get to sleep? About

:18:21.:18:29.

four a.m.. It is a moment which may never happen again in your life, so

:18:30.:18:33.

you have got to enjoy it, haven't you? It does not come around often

:18:34.:18:39.

and we are the first great British women's hockey team to reach the

:18:40.:18:43.

final and win the gold medal so it is something special which we will

:18:44.:18:46.

all treasure and have memories for life so, yeah, we just went a bit

:18:47.:18:49.

crazy last night and enjoyed every moment. We have loads of questions

:18:50.:18:54.

from our viewers and will get to them in a moment. But Sophie, the

:18:55.:19:00.

way that you want it, to be down on a number of occasions and comeback

:19:01.:19:04.

against the top ranked team in the world and take it to penalties, then

:19:05.:19:08.

the drama, 10 million people were watching you on BBC One. It was

:19:09.:19:14.

incredible to find that out. We went behind a couple of times but kept on

:19:15.:19:19.

bringing it back. We knew when the final whistle went and it was going

:19:20.:19:22.

to a shoot out that it would be our time. Maddie was exceptional in

:19:23.:19:28.

goals, and Holly calmly finished it off for us. I was trying to get the

:19:29.:19:39.

hash tag going yesterday, because Maddie was just outstanding. In a

:19:40.:19:43.

penalty situation in whatever sport, the goalkeeper is essential, but he

:19:44.:19:49.

had a wonderful night. We are so blessed to have four goalkeepers on

:19:50.:19:56.

the programme, and we are so blessed they are such great goalkeepers, and

:19:57.:20:00.

she is one of them, an absolute star. She does her homework, she is

:20:01.:20:05.

so diligent, and just having her behind you, you can afford to give

:20:06.:20:10.

them a few chances because she would keep them out. I don't know if you

:20:11.:20:14.

have seen the pictures everybody is looking at of the stuff she has on

:20:15.:20:20.

her water bottle? The last thing, in big letters, says, stay big. Chin

:20:21.:20:26.

up, and the numbers of various penalty takers, and who to watch out

:20:27.:20:32.

for a short corners... She does her homework, she is really in depth.

:20:33.:20:37.

They are the key points for her to focus on, to keep her calm and

:20:38.:20:42.

objective and not emotional, but she really does her homework. And she

:20:43.:20:47.

really helps these guys take their penalty shuffles. She tells them

:20:48.:20:51.

what the opponents do, what they favour in goal, and they work of

:20:52.:20:55.

that and try to score. So it works both ways in defence and attack.

:20:56.:21:00.

Would you like to see your winning penalty again? I am sure you would.

:21:01.:21:06.

Holly, talk us through what we through your head before taking

:21:07.:21:09.

this. Before taking it I am just trying to think of all the training

:21:10.:21:16.

we have done. The celebrations were crazy, I did not know what to do. I

:21:17.:21:22.

am just trying to imagine that I am training with low ones there, it is

:21:23.:21:26.

not an Olympic final, and I don't have too score to win. So you were

:21:27.:21:32.

quite calm? Thinking back, I don't know how I was so calm, it was a

:21:33.:21:38.

little bubble, it was so weird, the five of us taking them, we stood

:21:39.:21:42.

there, and even though we missed and they saved, we still believed that

:21:43.:21:47.

we were definitely going to win the shuffles. I don't know where it came

:21:48.:21:52.

from. There was not any doubt? You were really confident? Not at all.

:21:53.:22:00.

Yeah, yeah. It is amazing that you felt that way. Where did it come

:22:01.:22:04.

from? Team spirit or believe in each other? Last summer at the European

:22:05.:22:09.

Championships we took the Dutch to a shoot out. I think we practised for

:22:10.:22:16.

them a lot, and it is the belief within the team, and, yeah, I think

:22:17.:22:21.

that. How fast did you run from the...? We were not wearing GPS so

:22:22.:22:28.

we don't know for certain but it was a good old sprint. That is the

:22:29.:22:32.

highest I have ever jumped in celebration. What was lovely about

:22:33.:22:37.

that moment, and you prepare your whole life for that, but you never

:22:38.:22:42.

go through, when we win, what do I do? So everything just comes... It

:22:43.:22:47.

was a blur. Everything just seemed to stop. I did not know what to do

:22:48.:22:52.

so I just stood there and jumped around and waited for them all. At

:22:53.:22:57.

what age did you all start actually playing hockey? School or after

:22:58.:23:04.

that? School. I started when I was roughly seven. So a long time, over

:23:05.:23:10.

20 years ago. I was 12. Secondary school. I was eight, at a local

:23:11.:23:18.

hockey club. Quite a few people want to know about your nickname, the

:23:19.:23:22.

baby faced assassin. Who started it and do you like it? I can't

:23:23.:23:27.

remember, I think it might have been a few girls from the U21 team, when

:23:28.:23:32.

I played for them I was quite young and still looked quite young, so it

:23:33.:23:37.

kind of stock. Do you actually call her that? No, I think you have grown

:23:38.:23:44.

out of it now. You have another nickname though. Keeping that to

:23:45.:23:52.

yourself, good idea. What effect do you hope this will have back home on

:23:53.:23:57.

local hockey clubs? We are already hearing today about people ringing

:23:58.:24:00.

the local club and sing, can I bring my kids? For me, that is the most

:24:01.:24:07.

amazing thing. We all want a gold medal and this is amazing but to

:24:08.:24:11.

hear that, and all the messages we have had from home, and everybody

:24:12.:24:14.

who wants to get into hockey, no matter your age or your gender, that

:24:15.:24:18.

is just amazing that people will be inspired by it and are loving it.

:24:19.:24:23.

That is literally the best thing about winning this. If 1% of those

:24:24.:24:29.

10 million join a hockey club that makes a huge difference, doesn't it?

:24:30.:24:33.

That is the whole point of inspiring the next generation. I member

:24:34.:24:38.

watching Kelly Holmes and it inspired me. If you can encourage

:24:39.:24:42.

one person to take up any sport and be involved and be active and have

:24:43.:24:48.

fun, then that is job done for us. Another question, what advice would

:24:49.:24:52.

you give to an 8-10 -year-old about what sport to play? You are just

:24:53.:24:57.

saying, do something? Anything. Just enjoy it. Do not feel pressured to

:24:58.:25:02.

choose a sport to early. The more you can do, the more experience you

:25:03.:25:06.

can get from sport, it just builds you up as a person and you learn so

:25:07.:25:11.

much from it. Sacrifice is a big one as well. I know that you say, oh, I

:25:12.:25:15.

have given up all these things to get here, but the life of a sport

:25:16.:25:20.

star, yes, it has magical moments, but so much hard work goes into

:25:21.:25:23.

preparing and getting through those moments. What have you done to get

:25:24.:25:28.

here? I would call it a life choice rather than a sacrifice. Even though

:25:29.:25:35.

we don't get to do some stuff like, for instance, university, it was not

:25:36.:25:38.

the same as a normal university student. But all of that, missing

:25:39.:25:44.

out on certain bits you would have liked to have done with your

:25:45.:25:48.

friends, etc, weddings, you are not there... It is all totally worth it.

:25:49.:25:55.

100% with that, over again. All the weddings she missed, she does not

:25:56.:26:03.

care. 100%. It is a choice. And when you have got a gold medal around

:26:04.:26:07.

your neck it is completely worth it. I have nothing to add to that. How

:26:08.:26:14.

do you build your team spirit? You say you do a lot of training

:26:15.:26:18.

together, but another question leading into that, when you leave

:26:19.:26:22.

here, what do you then go back to? When you return to the UK, what

:26:23.:26:29.

happens next? Team spirit, first. A good one is these are really

:26:30.:26:33.

horrible running sessions. We have some really horrible training

:26:34.:26:35.

sessions and the best thing is when you finish and you just huddled

:26:36.:26:40.

together as a team. You are like, we have just gone through that, it will

:26:41.:26:45.

pay off in the end. So that is a key one for me. Going through hard times

:26:46.:26:54.

together really brings you together. Through the National Lottery funding

:26:55.:26:58.

we receive we are able to train together day in, day out. We know

:26:59.:27:02.

each other so well because of that. We have been through the tough times

:27:03.:27:06.

and stuck together. The belief that we have in one another is

:27:07.:27:11.

exceptional. We go out there and we know our job and we do our

:27:12.:27:17.

individual job for the team. There are 31 of us who train day in, day

:27:18.:27:23.

out, for this. And this has only been 16, plus free reserves able to

:27:24.:27:27.

come out here. So all of those people back home who could not come,

:27:28.:27:31.

and the reserves, they all deserve one of these, and we would not be

:27:32.:27:34.

here without them, because they wish us every day to get better. So the

:27:35.:27:40.

team spirit and everything we have is generated by all of those people,

:27:41.:27:44.

not just the people who are here. Did you all her family out with you?

:27:45.:27:49.

People watching, or people back home today, I imagine? My family are

:27:50.:27:56.

right over there. The majority of my family are actually out in Rio. Many

:27:57.:28:02.

of us have had parents coming out to support us. It was two to one Dutch

:28:03.:28:10.

versus British supporters yesterday, but we were definitely louder. My

:28:11.:28:15.

family is back at home but they have all been watching, cheering us on.

:28:16.:28:20.

My mum and my dad and my brothers came out, they flew back home, and

:28:21.:28:24.

then flew back for the final. So they have racked up the miles. Let's

:28:25.:28:30.

look at the medal moment. It was the longest medal ceremony I think I

:28:31.:28:33.

have ever seen in my life. 40 minutes. You have had all the

:28:34.:28:38.

adulation, jumped up and down, the emotion poured out, is this a more

:28:39.:28:44.

serious moment, an emotional moment? Is this when you think about all the

:28:45.:28:48.

hard work and the hours of practice and training and the fact you have

:28:49.:28:51.

played hockey since you were seven years old? It is a moment to

:28:52.:28:56.

reflect, almost, you have it around your neck, you have done your bit,

:28:57.:29:01.

you just think back to what it has taken to get there, and all the

:29:02.:29:06.

girls back home, we are just a small proportion of the 31 training squad,

:29:07.:29:10.

but for me, when we sang the national anthem, I do not cry, but

:29:11.:29:15.

even I cried. It is just overwhelming. To be on that podium

:29:16.:29:20.

in the gold medal position. Is it weird, watching it back? Really

:29:21.:29:27.

weird. I know this important question, what can you tell us about

:29:28.:29:31.

the party last night? Look at your faces! It was really nice. It was

:29:32.:29:37.

mostly us, some of the men's squad, and our family and friends who

:29:38.:29:42.

travelled out. It was really nice because we have not seen much of our

:29:43.:29:45.

friends and family whilst out here. We started on the first day of the

:29:46.:29:50.

Olympics and finished yesterday. And straight after one game you focus on

:29:51.:29:53.

the next so we have been in a bubble. So it was nice to get to see

:29:54.:29:58.

everyone and celebrate with them. It sounds like a good night. And what

:29:59.:30:03.

is the best thing about being in Rio, other than obviously these

:30:04.:30:07.

things around your next the moment? You say that, obviously, like you

:30:08.:30:12.

say, virtually day one until now, have you had time to do anything

:30:13.:30:13.

else? We had a trip up Sugarloaf Mountain,

:30:14.:30:24.

the views were stunning, and the people have been very friendly, and

:30:25.:30:29.

the energy is infectious. And it is a very special city. I would

:30:30.:30:34.

probably say the volunteers have been great, almost reminded me a

:30:35.:30:37.

little bit of London when they really get behind you and they've

:30:38.:30:40.

been very helpful, very supportive, and always asking for pin switches.

:30:41.:30:48.

So just the volunteers that make it very special. Just the support,

:30:49.:30:53.

whether it is Team GB support from people we have had from people who

:30:54.:30:58.

know hockey or don't know it. It's just been incredible. What now? What

:30:59.:31:06.

is the next thing? Are you going as far as Tokyo or a few months down

:31:07.:31:11.

the line? A little bit of a rest may be, first. We don't get too many

:31:12.:31:16.

holidays so a little bit of a rest personally for me, then I'm going to

:31:17.:31:21.

Vietnam's Prahalad. I have a couple of weeks off, then I'm playing out

:31:22.:31:25.

in Holland, I'm playing a season out there. Quite a few of the squad play

:31:26.:31:32.

in Holland, don't they? Yes. I'm going back to work after a couple of

:31:33.:31:37.

weeks. I work at DEFRA, I'm studying to be an accountant. It is very

:31:38.:31:43.

different. Clever and incredibly good at sport. One final thing I

:31:44.:31:47.

supposes there will be changed now in the team because your captain is

:31:48.:31:52.

moving on, you can see it is sad because you've been through this

:31:53.:31:55.

wonderful experience together but do you feel there's been a real

:31:56.:31:58.

strength amongst these players here and those that weren't able to get

:31:59.:32:02.

here that this can be continued success? Winning it is one thing but

:32:03.:32:07.

staying there is the next big step, isn't it? Massively. It is going to

:32:08.:32:15.

be a real loss, K definitely inspired meal when I was younger to

:32:16.:32:21.

play hockey. Definitely. The programme we have, thanks to UK

:32:22.:32:27.

Sport and national lottery, will enable that. And our three mottoes

:32:28.:32:30.

are inspire the future, create history, and be the difference. By

:32:31.:32:35.

the programme we set up and the girls we have got back home, we are

:32:36.:32:39.

looking to Tokyo to try to match this. Run it through again? Inspire

:32:40.:32:51.

the future, be the history, be the difference. The messages we have had

:32:52.:32:55.

today, I'm sure you've had them on your own social media accounts, and

:32:56.:32:59.

of those 10 million watching, so many have said it was a brilliant

:33:00.:33:02.

real highlight of the games for them and it was wonderful to watch and

:33:03.:33:07.

your joy and enthusiasm at the end was brilliant so congratulations on

:33:08.:33:11.

the gold medal. Give them a big round of applause. Bigger than that!

:33:12.:33:17.

It is BBC Four, you can cut loose! It's been great to have you won.

:33:18.:33:21.

Just a reminder, there's plenty more still to come tonight. We will have

:33:22.:33:31.

the taekwondo for you at one o'clock. Both are British

:33:32.:33:40.

competitors lost this semifinals but they can come away with a bronze if

:33:41.:33:45.

they win their matches. One o'clock on BBC Four. After that if you

:33:46.:33:49.

switch over to BBC One, you'll be able to see the main man in action.

:33:50.:33:56.

A story of human movement. This looks easy. It has been anything

:33:57.:34:15.

but. 1983, the start. Twin boys born in Mogadishu, Somalia. Eight years

:34:16.:34:21.

later, one twin moves to London. He loves football. Running. Running

:34:22.:34:31.

wins. There are setbacks. Disappointing performance by Mo

:34:32.:34:37.

Farah. Successes. He is destroying them in the home straight! He must

:34:38.:34:44.

change. Change routine. Coach. Change everything. He must move to

:34:45.:34:54.

move faster. Is he ready now? Is this the time? Is this the place? He

:34:55.:35:00.

is kicking again! Mo Farah is going for it! It is gold! He's the double

:35:01.:35:11.

Olympic champion! Here's our Mo nights, and this is our Motown. It

:35:12.:35:16.

becomes the motion picture of the age to be repeated and appreciated

:35:17.:35:24.

time after town. Our monumental Mo. Mo Farah at his best, Mo Farah is

:35:25.:35:32.

the world champion again. Five world titles, simply sensational. What

:35:33.:35:37.

comes next in this story of human movement? Already among the greats,

:35:38.:35:53.

can he pull clear? Rio Mo. Go, Mo. Wonderful words but here's the

:35:54.:35:57.

little plan for the evening. Just a reminder, we will go to see some

:35:58.:36:01.

water polo in a moment. Taekwondo at 1am, and Mo Farah at 1:30am. The

:36:02.:36:06.

stuff that isn't on there is your Text Santa wheats which will --

:36:07.:36:19.

which we will be reading. By popular demand, the best bits section, which

:36:20.:36:23.

lovely Tim has put together. Big thanks to him. Let's show you a bit

:36:24.:36:28.

of water polo. This is the men's gold medal match. It is Croatia

:36:29.:36:32.

taking on Serbia, and commentary on this one comes from Mark Tompkins

:36:33.:36:36.

and John Harkin. It'll be interesting to see how this is

:36:37.:36:38.

refereed. So, here we go, this is the men's

:36:39.:36:56.

final here at the Rio Olympics. Straight away, Croatia have first

:36:57.:37:05.

control of the ball thanks to their player. Garcia, playing his fourth

:37:06.:37:12.

Olympics. There is no Pavic in the starting 74 Croatia.

:37:13.:37:30.

Eight a quarter. Those 22nd exclusions could be the key to this.

:37:31.:37:34.

This will be a physical battle so the referees will be needed here.

:37:35.:37:39.

It'll be interesting to see whether or not they are heavy light.

:37:40.:37:44.

Serbia's starting line-up is just on your screens. Gocic is the captain.

:37:45.:38:01.

The left-hander, Filipovic. First save of the game made by Bijac. If

:38:02.:38:09.

you aren't going to score, get the keeper to get it over. So you get

:38:10.:38:15.

the ball back and another 30 seconds on the clock.

:38:16.:38:22.

This will force Serbia, if they can't get further in, to shoot from

:38:23.:38:30.

well out. He's going to draw the exclusion! It is the Croatian number

:38:31.:38:40.

eight that is swimming out, Andro Buslje, so the first exclusion of

:38:41.:38:45.

the final, giving Serbia a player advantage. This is where they are at

:38:46.:38:51.

their most dangerous. They move the ball around exceptionally well,

:38:52.:38:55.

drawing the Croatians out of position. It is a fairly simple

:38:56.:39:03.

goal. Great call. Zivko Gocic scores. The fact they move the

:39:04.:39:09.

players around, and had the defence guessing. That looks easy now. The

:39:10.:39:16.

other player dragged that little bit of space and up he pops, and it is a

:39:17.:39:22.

great goal, Dusko Pijetlovic. Plenty of practice has gone into scoring a

:39:23.:39:30.

goal like that. The ideal goal. They are big men. They have to miss for

:39:31.:39:40.

it not to go in. There is another exclusion here. It is Serbia's

:39:41.:39:46.

number four, Sava Randelovic. Croatia with a chance to try to get

:39:47.:39:50.

themselves back into the game in the final.

:39:51.:39:57.

Two Centre forwards in trying to keep the Serbians under pressure.

:39:58.:40:06.

And it is over the top from Setka. Because it was blocked by the

:40:07.:40:11.

defender, it'll be throw-out. This has given us a hint of how they will

:40:12.:40:15.

referee. They will try to keep this game light. They don't want them to

:40:16.:40:21.

be monster in each other. Oh! Filipovic was on but the shot was

:40:22.:40:29.

too high, of all things. It may have taken a slight deflection. He's

:40:30.:40:33.

usually so prolific in that position, Filipovic. So, Croatia

:40:34.:40:39.

survive that Serbia attack and they are back on an attack of their own.

:40:40.:40:48.

Oh, fired in! I think it might have bounced back and hit the back of the

:40:49.:40:59.

goalkeeper's head. Let's have a look at the real play. It is a marvellous

:41:00.:41:04.

shot. It has come off the crossbar, come down and hit the back of the

:41:05.:41:08.

goalkeeper, and gone in. You see this a lot. It goes in. Sandro Sukno

:41:09.:41:16.

had the shot. Off the back of Branislav Mitrovic. His 15th goal of

:41:17.:41:24.

40 attempts. It is a great percentage at this level of water

:41:25.:41:25.

polo. 1-1. Surely, there is a call! But no. He

:41:26.:41:40.

was looking for a kick out or five-metre penalty. The referees

:41:41.:41:48.

have allowed that to run on and a chance for Croatia to come forward

:41:49.:41:51.

again with Andelo Setka. The two centre forwards keeping

:41:52.:42:10.

their width. The two centre forwards is common on the fact the defence

:42:11.:42:15.

from Serbia has been very good. Great ball forward by Filipovic,

:42:16.:42:24.

here is a chance for Mandic. It went in for the second goal for Mandic.

:42:25.:42:31.

And the strength of that man... Both players had hold of each other, the

:42:32.:42:36.

defender and the man with the ball. You can hang onto him, he will do

:42:37.:42:42.

what he is doing there. That takes tremendous strength, tremendous leg

:42:43.:42:49.

strength. The left-hander gets his ninth goal of this Olympic Games and

:42:50.:42:53.

Marko Bijac is beaten again. What a great start to the final we've had,

:42:54.:43:00.

three goals in four minutes. Croatia are back on the attack again with

:43:01.:43:03.

Maro Jokovic. Garcia trying to get an angle. There

:43:04.:43:20.

will be in exclusion here against Serbia's number nine, Nikola Jaksic.

:43:21.:43:32.

Croatia have the extra man. They're going to shoot from outside. Good

:43:33.:43:45.

save. Mitrovic. Named best keeper last year, Branislav Mitrovic, so

:43:46.:43:50.

living up to the expectations here at the Olympic Games. That will be

:43:51.:43:57.

another exclusion. Good decision. Sandro Sukno. Let's see what they

:43:58.:44:11.

conjure up. Trying to draw the defenders, make some space. It

:44:12.:44:16.

bounced into the cage from another narrow angle. It is Stefan Mitrovic

:44:17.:44:23.

who gets the girl and a little bit of daylight between Serbia and

:44:24.:44:28.

Croatia. You'd have to say, not entitled to score from this angle it

:44:29.:44:33.

is a great shot. The player has been dragged out. That is a marvellous

:44:34.:44:41.

strike. We're going to get a time-out call as well. 3-1 now to

:44:42.:44:50.

Serbia over Croatia. Time-out called by the Croatians. The coach trying

:44:51.:44:59.

to get someone to cross to his team after a fine start by the Serbians.

:45:00.:45:09.

They are dancing, the crowd. They have won the last four league world

:45:10.:45:16.

titles, Serbia. The most recent in 2014. The two pesticides here but on

:45:17.:45:23.

form it would be an upset if Croatia world to win. -- were to win. The

:45:24.:45:32.

longer they can hang in... They trailed by two now, though. They

:45:33.:45:40.

beat Italy 8-6 in the final in London 2012, the Croatians. Trailing

:45:41.:45:46.

by two here in the first quarter. Make that trailing by one. That is

:45:47.:45:53.

Garcia using the angle well to fire one in past Branislav Mitrovic.

:45:54.:46:05.

He changed allegiances a couple of years ago.

:46:06.:46:20.

The Croatians tried to recruit him straight after London. It took him

:46:21.:46:25.

another 12 months to get his Croatian passport, that now very

:46:26.:46:30.

much a part of their water polo set up. They needed another left-hander

:46:31.:46:41.

and they finally got their man. That has to be another foul at two

:46:42.:46:54.

metres. No doubt. Working his backside off to do it. They have a

:46:55.:46:59.

player sitting in the girls but that is OK. He is not offside. Got to

:47:00.:47:05.

stay outside the two metres unless you have got the ball or it is in

:47:06.:47:09.

front of you. But this time they cannot find their way through, a

:47:10.:47:13.

punch of the air in the Croatian goal. He is punching the air even

:47:14.:47:19.

though it had the post, I don't think he had much to do with that.

:47:20.:47:23.

There you are, celebrating nevertheless.

:47:24.:47:30.

The players come back in after serving a 20 seconds, don't forget,

:47:31.:47:36.

if you commit three files you are out. Another fine long-range strike

:47:37.:47:47.

from Croatia hits the top this time. Jokovic, with the shot. No time to

:47:48.:47:54.

get any respite in this. Once you finish the attack you have to swim

:47:55.:47:59.

like crazy down the other end. Because Serbia are threatening with

:48:00.:48:04.

every attack at the moment. They have punched him also. They are

:48:05.:48:08.

going nuts down here, absolutely crazy, the Croatians. Off the ball,

:48:09.:48:15.

off the camera, not only did he give away an offensive foul, even popped

:48:16.:48:20.

up and delivered a little short jab to the Croatian. Should have been

:48:21.:48:24.

kicked out, that would have left them a player down for the rest of

:48:25.:48:28.

the match. You cannot replace a player who is thrown out for

:48:29.:48:32.

brutality. A little bit of controversy in the final. You can

:48:33.:48:36.

see the reaction from the Croatian coach, telling his players to calm

:48:37.:48:41.

down. They were furious, on the bench. Absolutely they were. I don't

:48:42.:48:47.

know if we will get a replay. Another time-out has been called. It

:48:48.:48:53.

may not, if it happened off camera. But we can seize early offensive

:48:54.:48:57.

foul. He was holding on, and we don't know what was being done under

:48:58.:49:04.

the water, but he came up and reacted with a short punch straight

:49:05.:49:08.

to the face of his opponent. We have got two referees and neither of them

:49:09.:49:14.

saw the incident. He would have been in trouble if they did. It is a big

:49:15.:49:20.

call to leave a team a player down inside the first quarter of an

:49:21.:49:24.

Olympic gold medal game, but if you saw it, you would have too. Look, he

:49:25.:49:30.

is saying, he hit him. And he is saying, I did not see it. The coach

:49:31.:49:35.

needs to make sure he does not get a yellow card for protesting. Referees

:49:36.:49:39.

do not allow much talking back to them in water polo. Serbia are back

:49:40.:49:52.

on the attack. Just trying to drive across the two metre line. An

:49:53.:49:55.

offensive foul and a chance for a quick counterattack. The pass was

:49:56.:50:01.

only a couple of inches from being perfect. End of the first quarter, a

:50:02.:50:13.

thriller. A brilliant tip over in the final seconds. Nikic, with a

:50:14.:50:21.

long-range shot. Croatia 2-3 Serbia. We will be back in the second period

:50:22.:50:32.

of that shortly. We have moved back outside with people saying, what you

:50:33.:50:38.

doing in that warring studio? I want to see the beach behind you. So here

:50:39.:50:46.

are -- boring studio. One viewer saying, water polo is quite brutal,

:50:47.:50:51.

isn't it? Another, is water polo just underwater wrestling? Yes, they

:50:52.:50:57.

are the units. Quite a bit goes on under the water I think. -- they are

:50:58.:51:07.

big units. Look, you can see perhaps the largest rods we have seen in

:51:08.:51:11.

action so far in our Fishermans corner. The binmen, we think, are

:51:12.:51:19.

down the far end of the beach at the moment. If they go past in the next

:51:20.:51:23.

minute or so you will see them live. If they do not come past in the next

:51:24.:51:27.

minute we will need to do it recorded. People are asking about

:51:28.:51:33.

the promised best bits, when are we going to share all that? We will do

:51:34.:51:38.

that at half-time. Oh, they are coming. Sorry, I'm getting

:51:39.:51:42.

distracted. We will do that at half-time in the water polo, so if

:51:43.:51:48.

you want to see the best bits and all the other Gulf, we will do it in

:51:49.:51:55.

15 minutes. On the bin news, Amanda says she has an orange bean in

:51:56.:52:00.

Glasgow. She sent a picture. Thank you for that. And Emma has found you

:52:01.:52:07.

can buy one, very similar to the Rio ones, ?459 so if you are that

:52:08.:52:11.

obsessed, maybe that is a wise investment. -- for ?59. Did you get

:52:12.:52:21.

your cabal, asks Stacey? Yes, we did. A young man came and grilled it

:52:22.:52:26.

for us and it was very nice indeed. -- our kebab. I am very sorry to say

:52:27.:52:34.

that there is absolutely no sign of Antony Worrall Thompson. You will

:52:35.:52:40.

see him if you stay with us for 15 minutes because I am sure he will

:52:41.:52:44.

feature in the best bits, but if he is not here, we might not get any

:52:45.:52:50.

more live AWT, I know you think that means no party, but fear not, it is

:52:51.:52:54.

our final night and we will bring you significant treats. What you

:52:55.:53:00.

pointing at? The binmen? They are coming. Can we stay for them, or do

:53:01.:53:05.

we need to show some sport? I think they are going to take their time. I

:53:06.:53:09.

don't think there is any other channel in the world that would hold

:53:10.:53:14.

the live sport while waiting for our favourite binmen to come and join us

:53:15.:53:19.

on the beach. This is Rafael, Pedro, Alessandra, and Donatello. I think

:53:20.:53:26.

it might take some time. Shall we record it? We will go to the water

:53:27.:53:31.

polo, do not go anywhere, we will show you in man action when you come

:53:32.:53:36.

back, and show you the best bits. How is that for a deal? Here is the

:53:37.:53:40.

second period of the gold medal water polo match, it is important,

:53:41.:53:45.

maybe slightly more potent than our binmen, although the other group are

:53:46.:53:50.

now turning up as well. These are not our boys. These are not our

:53:51.:53:56.

boys. This is like the rival crew. These are our lads. I can't believe

:53:57.:54:06.

we're doing this. Carlos... This is like two worlds colliding.

:54:07.:54:14.

Incredible scenes. It is like a bin off. What on earth is going to

:54:15.:54:19.

happen? They are shaking hands. Maybe they have realised that... I

:54:20.:54:25.

should move out of the way. I feel the need for you to see this action.

:54:26.:54:30.

Maybe they realise how important this is to the people of BBC Four.

:54:31.:54:37.

They know it is the final night. Of Cruise, side-by-side, knowing...

:54:38.:54:45.

Maybe we don't know. -- both crews, side-by-side. Maybe we need to tell

:54:46.:54:50.

them they are so important to our audience. Carlos is going to have a

:54:51.:54:59.

chat with our fabulous binmen crew. Let's do it now. We have got them

:55:00.:55:06.

some gold medals. Come on, come down, it is a bit wobbly, I hope you

:55:07.:55:13.

don't mind, it is BBC Four, it is all good fun. Carlos is explaining.

:55:14.:55:18.

Come down onto the beach. I would love to know... Guys, we have got

:55:19.:55:24.

some gold medals for you, to say thank you. He is coming down. This

:55:25.:55:33.

is going to be a beautiful moment. Guys, come over. Lovely to see you,

:55:34.:55:49.

thank you very much. Your name is Dan? How do you know that?

:55:50.:55:59.

Unbelievable scenes! Can we give a big round of applause to rough ale?

:56:00.:56:09.

Flavio gusto. If you would like to take off your cowboy hat? This is

:56:10.:56:15.

beautiful. Another round of applause, everyone. Lovely to see

:56:16.:56:22.

you. Hold on a moment. The driver. Look at that. You are very famous.

:56:23.:56:39.

Carlos? What is he saying, Carlos? He is saying he is a musician also,

:56:40.:56:50.

and wants to give you a card. Have you got a guitar with you? Will you

:56:51.:56:54.

come back and play the guitar for us later? Yes! THEY SPEAK PORTUGUESE.

:56:55.:57:16.

He is going to come back? Lovely. Live guitar, later on. A picture?

:57:17.:57:25.

For social media? Very nice to see you. Thank you very much guys. We

:57:26.:57:40.

love the copper cabana binmen -- Copacabana.

:57:41.:57:50.

I am not sure what to say after that. If you are at home in the UK,

:57:51.:57:55.

thinking, what on earth have I turned on? This is the magic of BBC

:57:56.:58:00.

Four. If you have been watching, these guys have been superstars

:58:01.:58:04.

throughout our coverage. Every night they come by and have a chat, that

:58:05.:58:08.

was actually a slightly different crew, it is the weekend, things

:58:09.:58:14.

might be slightly different. But they have obviously been talking to

:58:15.:58:16.

each other because they know all about what we have been doing. It is

:58:17.:58:22.

a pleasure to meet them live on BBC Four and give them gold medals. And

:58:23.:58:26.

the driver is going to come back later for a bit of live guitar.

:58:27.:58:31.

There we go. We promised you some good beach action and I think that

:58:32.:58:34.

might be a wonderful moment on our final evening on Copacabana.

:58:35.:58:41.

Apologies if you were waiting for the water polo but we had important

:58:42.:58:46.

business to address. We are now returning to Croatia versus Serbia

:58:47.:58:51.

for the gold medal match. Don't go anywhere, the best bits are coming

:58:52.:58:52.

up in 15 minutes time. Goodbye. Maybe he was going to shoot himself,

:58:53.:59:05.

outside the five. But again, remember, it is both of them at the

:59:06.:59:09.

moment. They are just trying to force the defenders... Or keep them

:59:10.:59:15.

out wide. And that is another weak shot that is taken comfortably by

:59:16.:59:30.

Mitrovic. The -- 11-4 when they met in the World Championships, in the

:59:31.:59:40.

Serbia's favour. He is Filipovic. Brilliantly blocked. He was fouled,

:59:41.:59:47.

he cannot interfere with the free throw but he can block with his

:59:48.:59:52.

hand, and that was very well done. More importantly, it sets up his

:59:53.:59:56.

team for another attack as they try to get back to 3-3.

:59:57.:00:03.

Another long-range shot is tipped over by Mitrovic. Another 30 seconds

:00:04.:00:15.

on the shot clock. They won their opening two matches before losing to

:00:16.:00:18.

Spain, before the knockout stage victories, Croatia. Four goals the

:00:19.:00:23.

winning margins against both Brazil and Montenegrin.

:00:24.:00:30.

Nothing happening in terms of the Centre forward. The Centre forward

:00:31.:00:45.

trying to get himself set. Can't. Being marshalled by the captain

:00:46.:00:50.

Gocic. It is disallowed. The whistle has gone. And exclusion here. That

:00:51.:01:00.

is because the player had already been excluded. That is a little

:01:01.:01:05.

unlucky. We are going to get the yellow card. He has turned to the

:01:06.:01:11.

Croatian bench but just to assure you, the yellow card has gone on to

:01:12.:01:16.

the assistant coach, not the coach. I still think he is going on about

:01:17.:01:24.

that punch in the opening quarter. You have got to let it go. His side

:01:25.:01:26.

is in this up to their eyeballs. He is on. That was a marvellous bit

:01:27.:01:36.

of play, just let them with the final execution. It was very well

:01:37.:01:41.

worked, extra man, but well wide with the shot. The goal that was

:01:42.:01:51.

disallowed has infuriated him. Serbia come forward again. A good

:01:52.:01:58.

save, had to climb high out of the water to get a finger tip on that

:01:59.:02:14.

one. Bijac with the save. 3-2, still. Three minutes played in the

:02:15.:02:18.

second quarter. One of the Serbians cherry picking then the other end.

:02:19.:02:29.

He is way back about five metres. Good save again, Mitrovic has been

:02:30.:02:33.

in good form so far. That is his fourth save out of six. Managing to

:02:34.:02:40.

keep his side's goal intact. It is now Filip Hrgovic who will come

:02:41.:02:52.

forward. -- Filipovic. He has been well marked tonight, he was held

:02:53.:02:58.

back. So an extra man for Serbia. The Croatian Number Ten Krapic, who

:02:59.:03:10.

had the goal disallowed. Still he continues to throw his arms around

:03:11.:03:14.

at the referee, he is not a happy man, is he? Krapic climbs out of the

:03:15.:03:18.

water. Stabbed three this getting it in the

:03:19.:03:40.

neck from the coach at the moment -- Stavridis getting it in the neck.

:03:41.:03:48.

They are back Square. What a backhanded shot from close range by

:03:49.:03:57.

Nikic. They had done all the hard work, got themselves where and when

:03:58.:04:00.

they thought they had the chance of a canter, the ball straight into the

:04:01.:04:05.

Centre forward and what about this for the Centre forward's goal with

:04:06.:04:09.

the backhand, stuffs it into the bottom corner. No chance for Bijac.

:04:10.:04:27.

4-2. Croatian coach has a on both shoulders and at the moment, there

:04:28.:04:30.

is way too much discussion down there. The players will take a lead

:04:31.:04:34.

from that, they will feel hard done by. He needs to settle down,

:04:35.:04:38.

otherwise every call that goes against them, the team will feel

:04:39.:04:44.

that they are being hard done by, being cheated. I don't want to use

:04:45.:04:47.

that word other than in a psychological sense but they need to

:04:48.:04:54.

focus on the fact that they are still in it. Another foul here. It

:04:55.:05:04.

is an exclusion for Serbia. Mandic on the swim back. There will be a

:05:05.:05:08.

time out here and the chance to get the men forward into an attacking

:05:09.:05:14.

position. A little tired, didn't want to swim back too quickly. I'll

:05:15.:05:18.

just have a little grab of my opposite number. They would love to

:05:19.:05:25.

score here with the extra man. The conversation is now going on between

:05:26.:05:30.

the players. They need to settle down. There is a lack of control

:05:31.:05:35.

from Croatia at the moment. There is a game to play, forget refereeing it

:05:36.:05:43.

as well. So many Games against each other in the past, they know each

:05:44.:05:47.

other inside out, these top teams. It is not like any other team sport,

:05:48.:05:52.

where you have 30 or 40 teams trying to qualify for a final, these teams

:05:53.:05:56.

are there every time, so these situations have arisen many times.

:05:57.:06:03.

And many of them are team-mates across the two nations, so they know

:06:04.:06:14.

each other very well. Mandic and Setka be good examples. It is

:06:15.:06:20.

another save from Mitrovic but it wasn't the greatest of shops, in

:06:21.:06:24.

fairness. The goalie is getting the better of these tussles. It has just

:06:25.:06:30.

come off the arm of one of the blocking players, made it a little

:06:31.:06:31.

easier. Filopovic has spent every minute in

:06:32.:06:46.

the pool so far this final. I was just thinking the same, the amount

:06:47.:06:52.

of minutes he has played. Oh, wonderful, Filopovic was involved

:06:53.:07:03.

and it is another goal and the advantage stretches a little further

:07:04.:07:10.

by Gocic. He was just jumping high, there was a little block as he

:07:11.:07:13.

jumped high to come across it and cover the near post. There is an

:07:14.:07:19.

example where the log was on. That stretches it a bit, three goals, two

:07:20.:07:23.

and a bit minutes to go in this first half.

:07:24.:07:28.

Gocic with bronze medals in London and Beijing, so with his third

:07:29.:07:36.

Olympics, he is guaranteed at least a silver. Filopovic has come out of

:07:37.:07:41.

the pool for a short break. Croatia back on the attack, more defensive

:07:42.:07:45.

minded for the Serbians. Another exclusion for a little tug.

:07:46.:07:55.

Randelovic get his second exclusion. Garcia Gadea has scored already but

:07:56.:08:11.

not bad time with the defending. Setka has found a way through. He is

:08:12.:08:19.

having a game, Setka. There is the kick out. Nothing wrong with that

:08:20.:08:25.

decision. Quick pass and off the hand, in it goes. They get Garcia

:08:26.:08:32.

Gadea involved on plenty of occasions. That's left-handed throw

:08:33.:08:37.

is perfect for the handle, into players like macro on this nearside

:08:38.:08:46.

of the pool. -- like Setka. Inside the final two minutes of the first

:08:47.:08:51.

half. Serbia will want to try to keep the pressure on. Here is

:08:52.:08:59.

another shot from outside five. Mandic with his second of the game.

:09:00.:09:06.

Another left-hander shows his work. Filopovic shouts his encouragement.

:09:07.:09:10.

Goal Number Ten of these 2016 Rio Olympic Games. What about the

:09:11.:09:16.

athleticism of not only getting a but getting up and being able to

:09:17.:09:22.

turn his body around with those great legs and core strength to use

:09:23.:09:26.

lot it in around the arms of his defender. Psychologically, it is

:09:27.:09:33.

very important for the Serbians to retain a handy lead. If they go up

:09:34.:09:44.

but -- if they go in those goals up, it is difficult mentally for the

:09:45.:09:50.

Croatians to come back. Another good save by Mitrovic. They have got the

:09:51.:09:58.

look of the bounce, Croatia -- the good luck.

:09:59.:10:08.

Prlainovic at the 22nd, so Croatia with the extra player. And with the

:10:09.:10:16.

extra seconds, so important they can score here. He had his arm up

:10:17.:10:24.

begging for it. On two metres, he was absolutely begging for that

:10:25.:10:27.

ball. They will get another 30 seconds, though. Time-out called by

:10:28.:10:42.

Serbia. The shot blocked by Setka. It was a block, so it will turn over

:10:43.:10:47.

to Serbia. Thing is not going Croatia's way in the first half. He

:10:48.:11:00.

was begging for the ball but they couldn't get it to him. Serbia will

:11:01.:11:05.

come back with it and what a telling blow this could be if with, just 51

:11:06.:11:11.

seconds left in the second period, they get another one. They are out

:11:12.:11:15.

by three, their biggest lead so far in the match. Well it shows how they

:11:16.:11:21.

perhaps underperformed in the group stage, they finished fourth, so they

:11:22.:11:28.

played the top team in the other group. But it has worked in their

:11:29.:11:32.

favour because it was Spain that they played, saw them off in the

:11:33.:11:37.

quarterfinals. They put themselves under pressure, as you say. A loss

:11:38.:11:46.

to Brazil. Trying to milk the Faldo, pushed off with the left hand, so an

:11:47.:11:49.

offensive foul pull-back for the Croats. Oh, no. Can you believe

:11:50.:11:57.

this? They have got a foul centrefield with a little offensive

:11:58.:12:00.

foul from the Croatians, so Serbia will come back with it. They are

:12:01.:12:08.

literally playing into Serbia's hands at the moment, Croatia. It is

:12:09.:12:17.

a coach killer, that one. Clean the one backed by Garcia Gadea --

:12:18.:12:30.

cleanly one -- won back. Filopovic out for 20 seconds. So there are a

:12:31.:12:36.

few seconds to go in this first. Someone has to take a ping. The

:12:37.:12:42.

left-hander might. Yes, he will. Back into play. It would have gone

:12:43.:12:46.

back to Croatia for 30 seconds but the hooter goes for the end of the

:12:47.:12:51.

first of and despite the fact there is a 3-goal cushion, Croatia have

:12:52.:12:53.

had their chances to get more goals in this half. At the halfway point

:12:54.:12:58.

in the gold-medal match, it is three - six.

:12:59.:13:04.

Thank you, gentlemen, so Serbia leading Croatia 6-3 at half-time.

:13:05.:13:10.

That is the gold-medal match, remember. We shall be showing a bit

:13:11.:13:15.

more of that for you later on. Thank you for all of your reaction to the

:13:16.:13:24.

Copaca binmen. While you were watching that, something special

:13:25.:13:27.

happened and we recorded it for you, and here it is.

:13:28.:13:32.

Ladies and gentlemen, look what has happened, the Copaca binmen have

:13:33.:13:38.

returned. There we go. One of our regulars wasn't on the tractor the

:13:39.:13:41.

last time round, so they came back because we had one gold-medal left.

:13:42.:13:47.

Four of them have dazzled us that these Olympic Games, so it gives me

:13:48.:13:50.

great pleasure to watch it with the BBC for gold medal. Thank you very

:13:51.:13:56.

much. Lovely to see you all, boys. This is genuinely a high point of my

:13:57.:14:01.

career. Can we line up for a nice down the Camara for the medals. Come

:14:02.:14:08.

on. In all seriousness, these guys do an unbelievable job and it has

:14:09.:14:12.

been a pleasure to watch it every night. Ladies and gentlemen, the

:14:13.:14:15.

Copaca binmen! They are lovely guys and what we

:14:16.:14:24.

didn't realise is they have been enjoying it as much as we have been

:14:25.:14:29.

enjoying it. We have had so many lovely messages over the last two

:14:30.:14:32.

weeks and I know we have masturbate about with the water polo, but we

:14:33.:14:36.

have been able to show you some fantastic sport -- I know we have

:14:37.:14:40.

messed about a bit with the water polo. Some of the madness and the

:14:41.:14:49.

site and the sounds we have seen on Copacabana Beach, here, courtesy of

:14:50.:14:58.

lovely Tim from the BBC 14, is the Copacabanter best bits. Time now for

:14:59.:15:05.

the headlines on BBC Four. This is nice, there will be no actual

:15:06.:15:11.

violence, it is all gentle and fun. Good evening. Life fishing on BBC

:15:12.:15:17.

Four. Fishermen's corner. Greg is doing his business on the far side

:15:18.:15:20.

of the track. Stop laughing, you lot.

:15:21.:15:27.

Massive bin man news, massive bin man use, what a job. We're not going

:15:28.:15:35.

to zoom in but rest assured, it's not that, apparently they are

:15:36.:15:39.

reading a book, they are reading a book, in a strange pose. Magnificent

:15:40.:15:45.

scenes, maybe that's how you do it in Brazil. A Brazilian hen party.

:15:46.:16:00.

Weather BBC. The BBC! BBC. Guess who has turned up, it's Maria's Mum,

:16:01.:16:05.

everybody. Say hi to the family. See you later. You're getting married!

:16:06.:16:09.

Antony Worrall Thompson, headphones on, ready to go. Where are you going

:16:10.:16:16.

on your holidays? We're talking about our six life, actually?

:16:17.:16:23.

Absolute wipe-out, that was. It is this cabaret? -- Caparo. Look at

:16:24.:16:32.

that, magnificent movement from Antony Worrall Thompson.

:16:33.:16:42.

MUSIC I hope they not dragging that young

:16:43.:17:03.

fellow into the sea. Never work with children and animals. Yes! They've

:17:04.:17:08.

got full beans, but they don't have the friendliness of our regular

:17:09.:17:17.

Copaca binmen. We got away with that. There you go, we've had great

:17:18.:17:24.

fun over the last few weeks. We've got a great crowd tonight, good

:17:25.:17:27.

evening, everybody. I'd like to think they are here to watch us but

:17:28.:17:32.

actually we have BBC One on another monitor and they are watching the

:17:33.:17:35.

final of the football, currently Brazil one and Germany want, into

:17:36.:17:39.

added time. We're happy to give you the service. -- Germany one. We are

:17:40.:17:46.

going to get back to the water polo for you and we may show you, our

:17:47.:17:49.

editor has been nice, he may show you the full Maria interview before

:17:50.:17:55.

we leave you at 2am. We will continue to read out your texts and

:17:56.:17:58.

tweets. We might get back out on the beach, to fishermen's corner.

:17:59.:18:02.

Evening full stop oh, no, no response! Verities. Maybe we won't

:18:03.:18:11.

go over there. -- there it is. We are going to go back to the water

:18:12.:18:17.

polo. This is into the second half, commentary on Serbia against Croatia

:18:18.:18:18.

from Mark Tompkins and John Harker. COMMENTATOR:

:18:19.:18:28.

There's the quarter by quarter summary, three goals in each of

:18:29.:18:32.

those quarters from the Serbs, who are in control of the match with 16

:18:33.:18:38.

minutes to play. Every time the whistle-blowers, the clock stops, so

:18:39.:18:41.

a lot more than 16 minutes between now and the end, but 16 minutes of

:18:42.:18:47.

play. Stefan Mitrovic Chand the swim off for Serbia in the blue cap, so

:18:48.:18:52.

we are playing towards the left end this time. Filipovic is still in the

:18:53.:18:58.

box, so they will start this a man down. If they get possession though,

:18:59.:19:04.

he gets to come straight back in. It is Croatia that have possession, so

:19:05.:19:09.

Filipovic will have to stay where he is in the exclusion zone. Now he's

:19:10.:19:13.

back into the game, straight into a defensive position for his team. The

:19:14.:19:20.

first attack for Croatia. I'd love to have heard what their coach had

:19:21.:19:31.

to say to them at half-time. Jokovic. Good defence from the

:19:32.:19:39.

centre back. They haven't done that too often in this game. The

:19:40.:19:44.

Croatians get themselves a goal, they are back to two now, it's 6-4.

:19:45.:19:51.

Can you explain what the way is in there? It's a remarkable goal.

:19:52.:19:56.

Sometimes they have a great vision to see a little gap past the

:19:57.:20:00.

goalkeeper. We've seen some wonderful shooting here that has

:20:01.:20:03.

literally been right in the corners, just skimming the post, such great

:20:04.:20:08.

accuracy. Were going to get a player kicked out of the centre. And extra

:20:09.:20:16.

man chance for Serbia. Sandro Sukno with his second 22nd exclusion --

:20:17.:20:28.

his second 20 - second exclusion. A knob into centre, they try to work

:20:29.:20:32.

in between the Centre forward, it was almost worked in. Well defended

:20:33.:20:42.

by Croatia. It takes a lot of skill to pass from one to the other.

:20:43.:20:55.

Three seconds on the shot clock, they will get another 30, because it

:20:56.:21:04.

came off the goalkeeper. A great shot like that to the low corner,

:21:05.:21:08.

needs to get carried away, only a couple of seconds to go on the shot

:21:09.:21:13.

clock as you say and now, another 30, so they will be first to score,

:21:14.:21:22.

Vista get them back within one. Just the sort of start they wanted to the

:21:23.:21:26.

third quarter, if they can capitalise on this possession. A

:21:27.:21:34.

defensive foul, the ball turns over back to Serbia. Yes, centre forward,

:21:35.:21:37.

just dunking the centre back. A lot of the shot clock has been

:21:38.:21:56.

tied up by swimming to the other side of the pool. He is Mitrovic.

:21:57.:22:01.

Fouling going on outside the five metres but not to warrant an

:22:02.:22:12.

exclusion. Turned away by Bijac. It was pretty skilful, almost went over

:22:13.:22:17.

his head. So they will get the ball back and another final 30 seconds.

:22:18.:22:23.

Looking for a foul here to shoot himself, I think. Yes. Tremendous

:22:24.:22:30.

power once again from Filipovic. The elevation out of the water and the

:22:31.:22:35.

sheer force he gets behind the ball gave Bijac no chance whatsoever and

:22:36.:22:40.

probably the man of the tournament gets another goal. The assistant

:22:41.:22:49.

coach for Croatia has been sent out, just off-camera. He must leave the

:22:50.:22:52.

arena immediately. We can't keep going on with this. You knew he was

:22:53.:22:59.

trying to do exactly that and it went like a rocket.

:23:00.:23:06.

He was the most valuable player at Shanghai in the World Championships

:23:07.:23:12.

in 2011, and think he is in danger of picking up that award again here

:23:13.:23:17.

if he's not careful, Filip Hrgovic, goal number 16 from open play, two

:23:18.:23:22.

penalties to add to that tally -- Filipovic. The Croatian official

:23:23.:23:28.

still doesn't want to leave the poolside. He's got to go. There's an

:23:29.:23:32.

official we will get back to the action. That's going to be a player

:23:33.:23:38.

out for into flaring with the free throw. An extra chance here for

:23:39.:23:45.

Croatia -- interfering with the free throw. Croatia with a chance to find

:23:46.:23:50.

some space and a good save the game, hit straight at Mitrovic. A good

:23:51.:23:57.

safe by the goalkeeper. The assistant coaches finally out of the

:23:58.:24:05.

arena. He did well there. If somebody is trying to get 80 or 90

:24:06.:24:13.

Ks from five metres. Serbia with possession. Zivko Gocic. That will

:24:14.:24:26.

be Croatia's ball. We are back to the same deficit we had at the end

:24:27.:24:33.

of the first half. Croatia coming forward again on the latest attack.

:24:34.:24:38.

We are almost halfway through the third already. Garcia godet. -- that

:24:39.:24:50.

the second exclusion, there's a time-out called. Three players

:24:51.:24:58.

potentially now on a full-time exclusion from the match, if they're

:24:59.:25:03.

not careful. Three of the Serbians have two major fouls, only one of

:25:04.:25:08.

the Croatians, although the one Croatian who does have is Sukno, who

:25:09.:25:12.

is a very valuable player, as we know. So what can they conjure here

:25:13.:25:22.

with an extra man? One minute the duration of the time-out for Ivica

:25:23.:25:28.

Tucak to get tactics across to his team. I've looked at the way -- they

:25:29.:25:33.

will have looked at the way the Serbians have set up and they have

:25:34.:25:38.

the advantage that they can get the angle from the near side of the

:25:39.:25:45.

pool. We haven't seen much of Yanukovych either. -- Jokovic

:25:46.:25:55.

either. Here he is again, the Spaniard. Playing in the red and

:25:56.:26:01.

white of Croatia. They are working this around. They've got some space

:26:02.:26:06.

here. Serbia just looking to keep them tight, prevent the shop coming

:26:07.:26:09.

in and they are doing well at the moment. It's been spilled. Ten

:26:10.:26:15.

seconds back to a full complement. Just over the top, clipped the top

:26:16.:26:19.

of the bar that time. A long-range shot fails to find a way through

:26:20.:26:26.

from Petkovic. They will try to work to the old keeper's right-hand side,

:26:27.:26:32.

he sliced back into three but terrific defence from Serbia to

:26:33.:26:36.

close it down. It's why Garcia was bringing the ball to the one metre

:26:37.:26:39.

line, but could never get three. Great defence, Serbia. Both sides

:26:40.:26:47.

will be leaving with medals but at the moment the colour remains

:26:48.:26:52.

debatable. There is another foul. That's harsh, that's a really harsh

:26:53.:26:57.

ball. It was a poor pass. He was never going to get to that, the

:26:58.:27:00.

Centre forward. They've paid it, unusual. Have a Garcia is the man

:27:01.:27:08.

who is out for -- Xavier Garcia is the man who is out for 20 seconds,

:27:09.:27:13.

so another chance for Serbia here. The ball was pushed under the water.

:27:14.:27:18.

It will be Croatia's ball. Interestingly enough, Serbia, you

:27:19.:27:22.

see the player swimming back out there, he had been sitting in on the

:27:23.:27:26.

goal-line in an offside position and the argument is he's not taking part

:27:27.:27:29.

in the game, but he's distracting the keeper and causing a whole, view

:27:30.:27:34.

is he swims out and scores, that time he didn't get caught, but

:27:35.:27:40.

fortunately the ball didn't go in either. It's another block and once

:27:41.:27:43.

again Serbia protecting their goalkeeper really well here. Buslje

:27:44.:27:52.

the latest Croatian to be denied by some good defending. T hands went up

:27:53.:27:57.

and forced a double block. That was Serbia back up at the other end,

:27:58.:28:02.

looking to add their to tally in the final. Great defence so far from

:28:03.:28:08.

Serbia. Low scoring final. Filipovic is trying to milk a foul. Doesn't

:28:09.:28:14.

need to, doesn't need to! It's an absolute replay of the last goal he

:28:15.:28:18.

scored, exactly the same position, tried to get the foul but then rose

:28:19.:28:22.

out of the water and fired with power past the goalkeeper. We will

:28:23.:28:26.

see a change in goalkeeper now for Croatia. Your zip average coming in.

:28:27.:28:35.

Nothing the goalkeeper could do with shots coming at that pace -- Pavic

:28:36.:28:45.

coming in. This was too much work, I'll have a ping, what a player.

:28:46.:28:51.

8-4, Serbia lead, two goals in the game now for Filipovic. He is

:28:52.:28:57.

climbing out of the pool on the other side so he can have a slow

:28:58.:29:03.

walk background to his team-mates. Giants of men, these players. Yes,

:29:04.:29:10.

they are big boys. It's not going Croatia's way, looking for a second

:29:11.:29:16.

gold medal at the moment. Savage is serving. Serbia are giving

:29:17.:29:19.

themselves an advantage for the gold medal. Another fiercely struck shot,

:29:20.:29:26.

well saved by Mitrovic, but it has bounced back to the Croatians, so

:29:27.:29:32.

they will get another 30. There will be an exclusion. For Serbia. Another

:29:33.:29:39.

player sits out. May have to make this count. A must

:29:40.:29:56.

score now. They have scored. Sukno gets his second of the game and we

:29:57.:30:01.

are back to a 3-goal game. They had to leave him out of the water, look

:30:02.:30:06.

at that! He had hold of his cap as well. Serbia, you're talking about

:30:07.:30:11.

the size of these men and Sukno puts it in, they left him out for a while

:30:12.:30:17.

because he was on two fouls but they have ten players at 192 centimetres

:30:18.:30:23.

or above, a couple at 202 centimetres, so guys who are six

:30:24.:30:25.

foot eight or six hard to stop. Fantastic athleticism shown by these

:30:26.:30:39.

players. We have a time-out, by the way, for Serbia, who, having

:30:40.:30:45.

conceded that goal, looking consolidate their situation. Pavic.

:30:46.:30:54.

The man who, at 34, carried the flag for Croatia, this his third

:30:55.:30:58.

Olympics. It was a 3-goal deficit at half-time and it is still a 3-goal

:30:59.:31:02.

deficit. They need to pull another one back and obviously prevent

:31:03.:31:08.

Serbia from scoring here. Serbia with Filipovic in such dangerous

:31:09.:31:15.

form. He he is again on the ball. Surely he is not going to score from

:31:16.:31:20.

12 metres, but anything is possible. Turnover foul at centre forward.

:31:21.:31:30.

Nikic gave the ball away. Good call. So a chance here inside the last

:31:31.:31:34.

minute. Can they paid this back to two? Croatia have shown in Flash is

:31:35.:31:42.

why they are the current Olympic champions but at the moment, they

:31:43.:31:44.

are being outmuscled by the Serbians. That is the word for it,

:31:45.:31:51.

outmuscled. That is a poor pass to the centre forward. An easy

:31:52.:31:56.

intercept the keeper. Even if he was being fouled, you are not going to

:31:57.:32:01.

play. You need to play closer to his hand and draw the exclusion. Just 18

:32:02.:32:11.

seconds left on the clock at the end of the third quarter. He is outside

:32:12.:32:18.

the five. Backhand, thank you. Brilliantly done once again and

:32:19.:32:23.

Batman Mandic has his third of the game. Because it was outside the

:32:24.:32:28.

five, he could shoot so without passing and has done so with

:32:29.:32:35.

devastating consequences -- Batman. It takes confidence and skill to

:32:36.:32:39.

throw that kind of back and in an Olympic gold final. He has seen the

:32:40.:32:43.

defensive player with his hand up and he has sprung a surprise from

:32:44.:32:48.

about six metres and, as you say, fouled outside the five, you can

:32:49.:32:51.

shoot from inside the five without passing. Croatia with the final shot

:32:52.:32:58.

of a half, it clatters against the bar and back into play. The hooter

:32:59.:33:02.

goes to bring us to the three quarters mark of the finals. Some

:33:03.:33:06.

brilliant individual performances from the likes of Mandic and

:33:07.:33:10.

Filipovic but at the three quarters point at the gold-medal match, it is

:33:11.:33:13.

9-5 to Serbia. It is good stuff, isn't it? I hope

:33:14.:33:23.

you are enjoying get on BBC Four, we will be back for the fourth quarter

:33:24.:33:27.

but it is our final day here back on the beach, I think it is a

:33:28.:33:31.

roundabout time we brought you the headlines from these real Olympics.

:33:32.:33:38.

Nicola Adams has won gold once again. The first boxer in nearly 100

:33:39.:33:45.

years to retain her title, the same as she did in London four years ago,

:33:46.:33:52.

Olympic gold for Nicola Adams. Liam Heath has won his second medal

:33:53.:33:56.

of the Games and this time it was gold in the men's 200m kayak sprint.

:33:57.:34:04.

There was also a bronze today for Vicky Holland. She claimed that

:34:05.:34:09.

medal in the triathlon, the USA's Gwen Jorgensen so dominant, taking

:34:10.:34:15.

the top medal for the USA. Really sad news the Tom Daley,

:34:16.:34:21.

Hassan Chen of Tyner back of the red China took gold -- Chen Aisen of

:34:22.:34:28.

China took gold but Tom Daley didn't even qualify for the final. And

:34:29.:34:35.

Inbee Park of South Korea is golf's Olympic champion, 16 under par, way

:34:36.:34:40.

clear of the rest. Charley Hull of Team GB was joint seventh.

:34:41.:34:47.

Those are your headlines. We shall read a few more of your messages

:34:48.:34:54.

later on, thank you for all of those. We will definitely miss the

:34:55.:34:59.

beach. I know a lot of you are saying we will -- you will miss this

:35:00.:35:03.

programme and we will miss it as well. Your messages and text

:35:04.:35:06.

messages and comments have been a very special part of that. But we

:35:07.:35:11.

need to get back to the water polo, Croatia are playing Serbia. Final

:35:12.:35:14.

quarter. The winner gets a gold medal. The losers go away with

:35:15.:35:19.

silver, so it is not too bad but gold is what it is all about. Let's

:35:20.:35:23.

return. Our commentators are Mark Tompkins and John Harkin.

:35:24.:35:30.

Serbia attacking the goal to left-hand side in the final quarter.

:35:31.:35:40.

Sedco gets there first. Loses his cap and claims he was being fouled

:35:41.:35:50.

-- Sukno. It is hard to play and referee the game at the same time!

:35:51.:35:56.

Turnover fell by long car, Saudi attack that could have got them a

:35:57.:36:09.

goal has said Serbia going forward. --

:36:10.:36:09.

goal has said Serbia going forward. -- by Loncar.

:36:10.:36:10.

Simple goal in the centre. The turnover did cost them. It turned

:36:11.:36:24.

into a classic counterattack goal. One on one here, he wasn't marked

:36:25.:36:27.

properly. They have dropped their heads, Croatia. Let's hope they can

:36:28.:36:37.

keep their discipline for the game. They don't want players excluded, it

:36:38.:36:41.

will mean Serbia can have a chance to pull away even further and make

:36:42.:36:48.

it even more emphatic. The game isn't there at the moment for the

:36:49.:36:52.

Croatians. They need a couple of unanswered goals. Since London 2012,

:36:53.:36:57.

it has always been about Serbia really at the major tournaments. But

:36:58.:37:03.

they have bounced one in to give themselves a little bit of hope,

:37:04.:37:12.

Sukno, who has been their main danger. It has bounced under the

:37:13.:37:16.

centre back's hand and the keeper has seen it very late. So three from

:37:17.:37:24.

34 Sukno but he has not played the amount of minutes you would like, he

:37:25.:37:29.

has a long time on the bench as a result of those too early major

:37:30.:37:37.

fouls. He has had to use him sparely, even kook ak, and it has

:37:38.:37:40.

probably cost Croatia a little bitch. -- a little bit. Still the

:37:41.:37:51.

four goal lead they started the final period with. One thing you

:37:52.:37:57.

cannot do their is stop and shoot from five metres. You have to shoot

:37:58.:38:05.

in one action. That will give him some confidence coming into the game

:38:06.:38:12.

late. Croatia back on the attack, trying to reduce the deficit back to

:38:13.:38:20.

three. Centre forward's set there. Didn't get the ball any quicker. It

:38:21.:38:25.

was a good, smart foul from the Serbians, ordinary garden variety

:38:26.:38:29.

fell but it enabled them to come back and double marked the centre.

:38:30.:38:35.

-- foul. The crossbar is still nervous. The ball hits the outside

:38:36.:38:37.

of the post. So Serbia back on the offensive,

:38:38.:38:48.

they looked dangerous every time they go forward. He has been caught

:38:49.:38:50.

pushing off. Whistle went. So Croatia need to try and get a

:38:51.:39:07.

couple of goals without reply if they can. Again, there is a

:39:08.:39:11.

turnover, claiming a foul against Krapic but nothing has been given.

:39:12.:39:21.

Again, Ivica Tucak looks at the referee. Can't believe it was given

:39:22.:39:25.

-- wasn't given as a foul and Serbia mount another attack. It was a good

:39:26.:39:31.

bit of work to turn him but anyway, back with the Serbs. There is an

:39:32.:39:36.

offensive foul inside, the Centre forward has gone over the top of the

:39:37.:39:41.

centre back trying to get himself position. Turnover, five minutes

:39:42.:39:47.

left. It is a long way back from here, a four goal margin. They have

:39:48.:39:55.

got to school. -- score. They can't find any space, the Croatians.

:39:56.:39:58.

Serbia defending so well and keeping the zones nice and tight. They are

:39:59.:40:05.

inviting the shot, making it impossible to get into the centre

:40:06.:40:10.

forward. It is a poor pass. They get lucky. They will call a time-out,

:40:11.:40:15.

the Croatians but it was a very poor pass. I don't think he would have

:40:16.:40:18.

got it even if he hadn't have been fouled. Pijetlovic will sit out 20

:40:19.:40:30.

seconds when the play resumes. Croatia calling the time-out here.

:40:31.:40:40.

Ivica Tucak. They have probably got five, maybe six, but probably five

:40:41.:40:46.

possessions and they are four goals down. They can't let Serbia score

:40:47.:40:52.

again, we know that, but they have to start scoring themselves, right

:40:53.:40:58.

now. It would go to a penalty shoot out if they could get level, no

:40:59.:41:02.

overtime or extra time in water polo anymore. We have seen some dramatic

:41:03.:41:06.

shoot outs in the earlier stages of the competition. You are on your own

:41:07.:41:11.

if there is a penalty shoot out four Olympic gold, I don't think I could

:41:12.:41:14.

stand distressed. I don't think the players could. -- stand the stress.

:41:15.:41:22.

It is a need for positivity now in front of goal from Croatia. They

:41:23.:41:28.

have wasted the opportunity with the extra player once again and Serbia,

:41:29.:41:34.

you can't fault their defence. Been absolutely superb at blocking those

:41:35.:41:37.

shots before they even reach Mitrovic and he is a great last line

:41:38.:41:43.

of defence to have as well. It looked like the channel might have

:41:44.:41:48.

been there. Filipovic is in no real rush, he is smart, he knows they

:41:49.:41:53.

want to waste every second of every possession they get. Hopefully he

:41:54.:42:00.

will score or forced a save. Deflected over. I think it may have

:42:01.:42:04.

come off the head of his Centre forward. Yes, it did. Good shape, it

:42:05.:42:11.

did indeed. He would have felt that, Nikic. He will be concussed! Here

:42:12.:42:18.

come Croatia again, under four minutes to go in the match. They are

:42:19.:42:25.

down probably to four possessions. Is just up and over the top and

:42:26.:42:29.

Croatia having no luck when they needed. Sukno looking for his fourth

:42:30.:42:35.

goal of the game. It wasn't a bad thing, it had to keeper beaten but

:42:36.:42:41.

bounced too high. Again, Filipovic in no rush again. 16th actually just

:42:42.:42:48.

telling his team-mates, calm it down. It is about winning a gold

:42:49.:42:54.

medal, not putting on a performance. They are putting on a performance

:42:55.:42:59.

all the same, Mandic gets his fourth goal of the game and they start to

:43:00.:43:02.

believe now that the gold medal is within their grasp. Again, took it

:43:03.:43:08.

very late in terms of the shot clock. Put them to sleep. That is a

:43:09.:43:16.

great strike, just bounces under the arm. Six of the Serbian goals have

:43:17.:43:26.

come from the left-handers tonight, Mandic and Filipovic. You mentioned

:43:27.:43:29.

the score in a World Championships last year, it is getting to that

:43:30.:43:34.

type of number, five goal margin with two and a half Men it's the

:43:35.:43:39.

play. It was a seven goal margin so you are right, we are looking at a

:43:40.:43:44.

similar margin here, you would feel. Croatia must wonder what they have

:43:45.:43:50.

to do to be the Serbians, becoming a bit of a nemesis, the former

:43:51.:43:51.

Yugoslav partners. Could save Mitrovic again and every

:43:52.:44:02.

save, every block will be greeted with cheers and claps and shouts at

:44:03.:44:08.

the bench. Serbia coming forward again. The keeper is going crazy

:44:09.:44:17.

off-camera at the moment. Mandic is out as well and screaming to his

:44:18.:44:21.

team-mates on the bench. They know they have copies, two and a half

:44:22.:44:28.

minutes to play. The coach, the man who started training at just five

:44:29.:44:33.

years of age, made his league debut when he was just 13 and he looks

:44:34.:44:39.

like having taken charge in 2012, he has guided Serbia to a gold medal.

:44:40.:44:44.

But when he was 13, he was about six foot two. He was a monster. He kept

:44:45.:44:54.

on growing, a big, big man. 400 goals, 440 odd Games. Just had a

:44:55.:44:59.

quiet word with Mandic, as if to say you have done your job, those four

:45:00.:45:06.

goals put us in nice shape. There is one back from Garcia but muted in

:45:07.:45:10.

terms of celebration. They have pulled the deficit back to four, in

:45:11.:45:17.

11-4 in Serbia's favour. This is a bit of a victory lap now for Serbia.

:45:18.:45:21.

Sitting at home, a global audience, wherever you are, you are always

:45:22.:45:26.

hoping for a thriller but it is always pretty good, when you see the

:45:27.:45:30.

team under all the pressure and expected to win come out and perform

:45:31.:45:36.

on the big stage, it is great stuff. The difference with water polo is

:45:37.:45:40.

every time Serbia get the ball, they can run 30 seconds off the clock.

:45:41.:45:45.

You can't play a full press against them, with two minutes to go, if it

:45:46.:45:52.

wasn't two goal difference that Croatians would be pressing them.

:45:53.:45:56.

They know the game is gone. We are going through the motions right now.

:45:57.:46:10.

Have a bit of a ping. Pavic, it has run another 30 seconds off the

:46:11.:46:14.

clock, so just over a minute and a half to go in the gold medal match.

:46:15.:46:19.

There have been some marvellous moments and I'm glad they won buy a

:46:20.:46:23.

lot and the controversial moment in the first period hasn't counted. If

:46:24.:46:28.

they had been down to six men in the entire game it could have. They will

:46:29.:46:33.

have something to say about that because it could have been a massive

:46:34.:46:37.

turning point in the first quarter of the final. He's still moaning

:46:38.:46:40.

about the turnover decision. Had it been seen he would have been kicked

:46:41.:46:45.

out, but you can't ask the referee is to make a decision on something

:46:46.:46:47.

they don't see. So the celebrations will start very

:46:48.:46:59.

soon on the Serbian bench. Dejan Savic might find himself in the

:47:00.:47:03.

water as well, he might do well to dispense a very valuable since his

:47:04.:47:07.

pocket. Get rid of the mobile phone, get it out. Croatia, who won the

:47:08.:47:15.

gold in London, not for the first time since I going to come up short

:47:16.:47:19.

against the Serbs. There will be a late exclusion for Stefan Mitrovic.

:47:20.:47:24.

Just 30 odd seconds left to go on the game though. Is there one more

:47:25.:47:33.

goal in this for Croatia, just add a bit of respectability to the

:47:34.:47:38.

scoreline? It's Garcia. Again, it's saved by Branislav Mitrovic. And now

:47:39.:47:43.

they can celebrate. There's 18 seconds to go, they are hugging on

:47:44.:47:47.

the bench already. Serbia are going to win the gold medal at the Rio

:47:48.:47:53.

2016 Olympic Games. Just the final few seconds. A brilliant tournament,

:47:54.:48:01.

and they have come up with a big performance when it mattered, as the

:48:02.:48:05.

hooter goes, and they are all in the water. Dejan Savic is in the water,

:48:06.:48:11.

no, it's one of the coaches, Dejan Savic might find him in a minute.

:48:12.:48:20.

What a performance by Serbia. Mitrovic the goalkeeper played his

:48:21.:48:25.

part. It Serbia, the gold medal winners, the full-time score,

:48:26.:48:26.

Croatia seven, Serbia 11. STUDIO:

:48:27.:48:36.

Absolutely brilliant stuff, just a reminder, that is what it's all

:48:37.:48:40.

about, quite a few people asking about watching water polo for the

:48:41.:48:44.

first time, about the things they put over their ears, it's to protect

:48:45.:48:48.

their areas because it is a violent sport. Croatia were aiming for

:48:49.:48:52.

back-to-back gold medals, they were the favourites. The Serbians were

:48:53.:48:57.

desperate for Olympic gold. They've done it. I hope you enjoyed that.

:48:58.:49:01.

That's the first time you've ever watched water polo, it's a fantastic

:49:02.:49:05.

sport to watch and they have produced a gold medal winning

:49:06.:49:10.

performance and its Serbia who take the title here in Rio. Croatians,

:49:11.:49:16.

who know what it's like to be Olympic cup champions, will have to

:49:17.:49:22.

make do with the silver medal. It's safe to say that's probably the last

:49:23.:49:29.

speedos we will see on BBC Four. He was very happy as well, wasn't he?

:49:30.:49:35.

Right, listen, we are here, sorry, I sound a bit rude there, listen! We

:49:36.:49:39.

are here and told to weigh in the morning. One of the things we have

:49:40.:49:43.

coming up a bit later on is two bronze medal matches for tae kwon do

:49:44.:49:52.

British athletes, Bianca Walkden and Mahama Cho. At 1:30am Mo Farah will

:49:53.:50:02.

be running his 5000 metres to try to add to the 10,000 metres he has

:50:03.:50:06.

already won won, that will be on BBC One. Lots of people asking about the

:50:07.:50:10.

best bits thing. The editor says he will promise to run it at the end,

:50:11.:50:15.

is that a promise? You might do. RU going to do it, or not? He will do

:50:16.:50:22.

it, he will do it again. Oh, OK, or we might run Maria. We will run one

:50:23.:50:30.

of them, either Maria or the best bits, and BBC sport will try to put

:50:31.:50:33.

them out as well because bizarrely quite a few of you would like to

:50:34.:50:37.

watch it, which is very nice of you. We are going to take you, we watched

:50:38.:50:41.

water polo, but volleyball has been something else which you have really

:50:42.:50:44.

enjoyed over the last few days. This is the women's volleyball gold medal

:50:45.:50:49.

match taking place later, China against Serbia again, we will show

:50:50.:50:53.

you the bronze medal match which took place earlier, this is the USA,

:50:54.:50:59.

they lost in their semifinal, taking on the Netherlands. It was a very

:51:00.:51:03.

tight first set. We are going to join it at the start of the second

:51:04.:51:08.

set. Best of five, remember, Clayton Lucas and Britt Park of all other

:51:09.:51:12.

commentators. Time for some volleyball on BBC Four.

:51:13.:51:24.

The ball is too tight to the net, and unforced error. Another

:51:25.:51:34.

reception is quite shallow on this, I don't know if they're trying to

:51:35.:51:38.

take balls over hand and serve reception, or if they are just...

:51:39.:51:46.

Challenging that, but... They are totally set up for an overhand serve

:51:47.:51:50.

receive, yet they didn't try to move backwards and pass the ball and they

:51:51.:51:53.

are completely out of position. If that's what they want to do, then as

:51:54.:52:00.

you have pointed out they need to be a lot deeper, if they are going to

:52:01.:52:04.

underhand pass, it is they are in the right place for a volley get the

:52:05.:52:07.

are trying to underhand pass the ball. It doesn't make sense right

:52:08.:52:13.

now. We Getty has told them to volley it. That's good from

:52:14.:52:22.

Petersen, not good control. Is a good swing for a bump set, it makes

:52:23.:52:26.

for a different ball when the set has to set a ball underhand opposed

:52:27.:52:31.

up overhand. A great swing to get them out of that.

:52:32.:52:42.

I was almost Vero tempo from Rachel Adams, as the bench goes through

:52:43.:52:49.

their point winning dance routine. -- Vero tempo. Rachel Adams just

:52:50.:52:55.

scorches balls, she's incredibly athletic as I mentioned time and

:52:56.:53:01.

time again. It's slow fun to see an energy like that, she brings great

:53:02.:53:06.

energy and she's been out there, ride or die delivering night in and

:53:07.:53:13.

night out. Plays her volleyball in Italy.

:53:14.:53:19.

One of the top leagues in professional volleyball. Along with

:53:20.:53:28.

Turkey and also Russia. Quite a few of the Netherlands players play

:53:29.:53:37.

their volleyball in Turkey. That one not quite making it over.

:53:38.:54:00.

Kimberly Hill puts that one down. She knows quite a few of the Dutch

:54:01.:54:06.

players all too well, being team-mates with some of them in

:54:07.:54:17.

Istanbul. They know what threat she is.

:54:18.:54:25.

This is a very good start from the USA, they are putting pressure on

:54:26.:54:30.

the Netherlands service, who are not able to get in attacks, relying on

:54:31.:54:37.

big hits through the outside. That continues to put pressure on, that

:54:38.:54:38.

one has gone through the arms. Another error from the US, they were

:54:39.:55:04.

looking pretty good in this second set. It's Netherlands to bounce

:55:05.:55:07.

back, it seems there's quite a lot of fragility on both sides of the

:55:08.:55:09.

net. Well, that was brilliant, absolutely

:55:10.:55:32.

brilliant. If the Americans have a chance to feed the middle, it would

:55:33.:55:42.

be good to do it, and do it often. That was some hit but also what a

:55:43.:55:48.

set from Glass as well, pivoting on a sixpence. A great ball in to make

:55:49.:55:57.

it all happen. Passing is key. That one is dropped like a stone, right

:55:58.:55:58.

on to the baseline. It looked to be going way out. It's

:55:59.:56:06.

landed way in. Good ally buy the line judge. -- a

:56:07.:56:19.

good I buy the line judge. Again, it's relying on malevolence

:56:20.:56:58.

going wide. They've had no middle attack so far in the second set. --

:56:59.:57:04.

it's relying on the Netherlands going wide. Very few in the first

:57:05.:57:07.

either. Dijkema aces the USA. Like a

:57:08.:57:29.

harmless float serve, Hills let it go. Interesting body language by

:57:30.:57:34.

Murphy, she knew it was in and ran out of the way. That's her

:57:35.:57:38.

responsibility to call that ball in or out, either you talk somebody

:57:39.:57:44.

into it, or if you know, you go. Are you in favour of passing unit only

:57:45.:57:52.

responsible for calling ball in out, letting them deal with it, or having

:57:53.:57:56.

someone for example your opposite players who are moving and running

:57:57.:57:58.

around and not necessarily getting the whole ball flight helping out

:57:59.:58:04.

and calling whether it is on out? Good question. There's layers to it.

:58:05.:58:11.

Your main passing responsibility row, it's important for them to talk

:58:12.:58:15.

that through, but you don't want to dodge ball the tin.

:58:16.:58:29.

Larson has done an incredible job this match, she has really created

:58:30.:58:35.

and established the presence of the ball control player. She's really

:58:36.:58:39.

stepped up and had her presence be known.

:58:40.:58:50.

More trouble here for the Netherlands and the USA now open up

:58:51.:58:57.

the two point lead. We just see how important the first parties --

:58:58.:59:02.

passes but also how important a good serve is, not only saying I'm going

:59:03.:59:07.

to hit the ball as hard as I can, that's one strategy, but also the

:59:08.:59:10.

tactical serving of where you put the ball on the court makes a huge

:59:11.:59:18.

difference as well. It's important to have all different styles of

:59:19.:59:22.
