Welcome to day 4-mac at Wimbledon. Yesterday on Centre Court we

:00:42.:00:47.

witnessed a much unique in so many ways. Fred Perry won the title be

:00:48.:00:51.

tough and stayed involved in tennis and commented here for many years

:00:52.:00:59.

and he would certainly have approved of the attitude that Marcus Willis

:01:00.:01:02.

brought to Centre Court yesterday as he took on Roger Federer. It was a

:01:03.:01:07.

match that reminded us all why we love sport so much. I was just a bit

:01:08.:01:13.

of a loser, overweight. He was a lovable rogue and not as

:01:14.:01:17.

professional as he could have been. I thought I could be better than

:01:18.:01:25.

this. Absolute madness. Shoes off if you love Willis! It is a very cool

:01:26.:01:35.

story. He will play the game. Roger against Marcus. David against

:01:36.:01:44.

Goliath. To share a court with Roger Federer, what a joy. Very good from

:01:45.:01:47.

Federer. I hope the best for him, I wish he

:01:48.:02:16.

can jump in the rankings and enjoy himself even more now. It was a

:02:17.:02:21.

pleasure to play against him. It sounds funny but I'm disappointed to

:02:22.:02:25.

lose, I went out to win but I can hold my head, I have had a fantastic

:02:26.:02:30.

few weeks and I want more experiences like this. And we

:02:31.:02:33.

certainly want more of Marcus Willis. He has been the big story of

:02:34.:02:37.

the opening three days at the Championships. It felt like a Davis

:02:38.:02:42.

Cup tie yesterday, a carnival atmosphere and everybody getting

:02:43.:02:45.

involved. The only person who did not was Roger Federer who was the

:02:46.:02:49.

ultimate professional. Marcus Willis may have lost but he has a lot to be

:02:50.:02:56.

proud of. This is the scene at Wimbledon today and because of the

:02:57.:03:00.

backlog of matches there are still some first-round matches to be

:03:01.:03:05.

completed. Play has got underway at 11am so we will be heading out to

:03:06.:03:09.

court very soon because there are so many matches to date as the

:03:10.:03:12.

tournament committee tries to catch up. Henman Hill is not as busy as

:03:13.:03:18.

usual because everybody is enjoying the tennis on the outside courts but

:03:19.:03:22.

still some people watching on the big screen. Good morning. Here at

:03:23.:03:29.

Wimbledon people are still talking about Marcus Willis and Roger

:03:30.:03:34.

Federer. What a match that was and what a story it was. Roger Federer

:03:35.:03:36.

has treated overnight... -- tweeted. No Marcus Willis left in

:03:37.:03:54.

the tournament and no Roger Federer today, he is through to the third

:03:55.:03:58.

round. There are still some first-round matches to be played but

:03:59.:04:01.

this is the Centre Court action which start at 1pm as usual. Kei

:04:02.:04:07.

Nishikori is up against Julien Benneteau and then it is Yen-Hsun Lu

:04:08.:04:17.

against Andy Murray. And then Eugenie Bouchard against the British

:04:18.:04:21.

number one, Johanna Konta. Another tough match for the 16th seed.

:04:22.:04:29.

Dimitrov and Simon only played one and a half games before the rain

:04:30.:04:33.

came yesterday. And then Garbine Muguruza takes on Jana Cepelova.

:04:34.:04:42.

Dominic Thiem and Jiri Vesely, two 22-year-old with big futures. These

:04:43.:04:45.

are the other matches we will be following.

:04:46.:04:52.

Dan Evans has taken the first set against Dolgopolov and is a break up

:04:53.:04:56.

in the second. We will be keeping an eye on the

:04:57.:05:10.

outside courts but also on the practice courts. Andy Murray is

:05:11.:05:14.

going through the motions, getting ready for his match, he is second on

:05:15.:05:17.

Centre Court also he is with his coach, Iban Andres -- Ivan Lendl,

:05:18.:05:27.

and Jamie Delgado. Not an easy match for him today against Lu who put out

:05:28.:05:35.

Andy Roddick on the second Monday of the championship some years ago so

:05:36.:05:39.

he will be taking it very seriously. That was Andy Murray earlier today.

:05:40.:05:45.

And he will be delighted by the progress of Dan Evans, his Davis Cup

:05:46.:05:51.

team-mate who is now two breaks of serve up against Dolgopolov. He must

:05:52.:05:57.

be sitting down happily at the moment. You can follow that online

:05:58.:06:01.

come on connected TV and on the BBC sport app. It is going well for him.

:06:02.:06:16.

And John Isner, one set up against Marcos Baghdatis. Baghdatis was 4-1

:06:17.:06:21.

up in the second set but Isner is now serving to take it into a

:06:22.:06:25.

tie-break. Lovely to see the sun shining here today for the I had

:06:26.:06:33.

forgotten that was blew up there! It was not the case yesterday, there

:06:34.:06:37.

was rain for most of the day. In fact, the club had to give a full

:06:38.:06:42.

refund to Court Number One ticket holders and it cost them about half

:06:43.:06:47.

?1 million. It is the first full refund since 2007 also other ticket

:06:48.:06:52.

holders were offered partial refunds but hopefully there will be no need

:06:53.:06:57.

for that today and the blue sky will remain but we can find out from the

:06:58.:07:00.

person who knows, Carol. This is better. So much better! We should

:07:01.:07:09.

have plenty of play today both up it will be a bit more cloudy yesterday

:07:10.:07:15.

so bright rather than wall to wall blue skies. Just a risk of Peshawar.

:07:16.:07:24.

-- of a shower. When the cloud goes across it feels a bit cooler, but

:07:25.:07:30.

when the sun is out it is beautifully warm. Tomorrow is

:07:31.:07:33.

similar, rain in the morning but by the time we get underway we are back

:07:34.:07:39.

into the risk of just one or two showers. Again, some sunshine

:07:40.:07:45.

around. Saturday looks to have a greater chance of some showers and

:07:46.:07:50.

some of those could be heavy and thundery. But a lot of play for the

:07:51.:07:55.

next couple of days. I thought you were going to say it would be

:07:56.:08:00.

beautiful on Saturday! Oh well. Thank you, at least it is good at

:08:01.:08:04.

the moment and play is underway which will please the tournament

:08:05.:08:09.

committee. We are heading out to court number 12 to see Heather

:08:10.:08:12.

Watson who played that amazing match against Serena Williams last year.

:08:13.:08:17.

Her first-round opponent was Annika Beck of Germany and this was last

:08:18.:08:21.

night just before the rain stopped play. She suffered a heavy fall, she

:08:22.:08:27.

iced her ankle and had it bandaged but a couple points later they went

:08:28.:08:32.

off. You could see how miserable it was. We are going to join it with

:08:33.:08:38.

the match resuming today. Watson had taken the first set but then lost

:08:39.:08:43.

seven games in a row. This is where we picked it up with Beck serving at

:08:44.:08:49.

30-15 and our commentators are Jo Durie and John Inverdale.

:08:50.:09:22.

JOHN INVERDALE: That is a high-quality first rally. JO DURIE:

:09:23.:09:36.

it looks as though Beck is moving fine. I want some of those

:09:37.:09:41.

painkillers! I should say as well, Beck's served

:09:42.:09:56.

in that first point, tentative was not the word, 62 mph. That's one

:09:57.:10:02.

crawled over the net. APPLAUSE

:10:03.:10:22.

That was not much better, 76 mph and it puts Watson in a very good

:10:23.:10:26.

position up the court where she can boss the point. It did not seem as

:10:27.:10:33.

though Beck moved quite so well to that shot wide on her backhand side.

:10:34.:10:49.

That was good scrambling by Heather which was frustrating the German but

:10:50.:10:59.

that error on the backhand side, and you suspect actually that Beck is

:11:00.:11:05.

quite relieved to have held serve. After all the mind games and how it

:11:06.:11:10.

finished last night, if Heather at broken back that would have been a

:11:11.:11:14.

very interesting change in emphasis. I think so and she squeaked out a

:11:15.:11:20.

bit. She will try to target the Beck backhand into that corner and get

:11:21.:11:24.

her moving. A big service game for Heather.

:11:25.:11:34.

APPLAUSE That was positive enough. It was

:11:35.:11:45.

nice and composed. She took her time on each shot, especially this one.

:11:46.:11:51.

You don't need to go too much near the line on that when you have got a

:11:52.:11:53.

nice gap. Back standing well inside the court

:11:54.:12:06.

for the second serve. -- Beck. When you are serving, how

:12:07.:12:28.

much are you conscious of where the receiver is standing? Very conscious

:12:29.:12:32.

and that is what you try to stand in different places when receiving but

:12:33.:12:36.

actually Beck did not hit the return hard at all, she has been quite

:12:37.:12:41.

passive so far. She has let Watson get on with missing.

:12:42.:13:04.

That is a disappointing shot. They are both quite tentative because

:13:05.:13:14.

they know there is a lot at stake here. Very close to each other in

:13:15.:13:20.

the rankings and before this game began, everybody said it was too

:13:21.:13:24.

close to call and both players seem to know that.

:13:25.:13:43.

Oh dear, two in a row off the backhand side. And these serves from

:13:44.:13:54.

Heather, 70 odd mph, are giving the initiative to the German and

:13:55.:13:58.

suddenly this could be a really key point in this match. Beck has two

:13:59.:14:04.

break points for a 3-0 lead in this decisive set.

:14:05.:14:25.

And if you were being honest, that was not Heather's best game. It

:14:26.:14:36.

wasn't, that is Beck's coach. She is very happy. Beck is not doing very

:14:37.:14:40.

much, she is putting the ball in court, a lot are half court and they

:14:41.:14:44.

are there to be hit but at the moment the Watson is hitting them

:14:45.:14:49.

out. And the pressure now is ever greater. At 3-0 there is not much

:14:50.:14:55.

margin for error. No. When you go down 3-0, there is only one option,

:14:56.:15:01.

you have got to play better and get the energy and motivation and focus

:15:02.:15:05.

from yourself and take it on to court and show your opponent. There

:15:06.:15:10.

is not that much threat from Beck, she is just getting the ball back in

:15:11.:15:14.

court so Heather as to be proactive somehow. Can you do that

:15:15.:15:20.

conservatively? She has got to keep the ball in court. She has but she

:15:21.:15:25.

has the show the energy and intention to her opponent first of

:15:26.:15:32.

all. -- she has to show. Annika Beck is just three games away from

:15:33.:15:36.

victory over Heather Watson and a place in the second round so it is a

:15:37.:15:40.

big game for Herbert big opportunity for as well now. -- for her. And the

:15:41.:15:50.

crowd are desperate to get into this match and if Heather starts playing

:15:51.:15:51.

better they will get behind her. That's better. APPLAUSE

:15:52.:16:13.

And you can tell from the reaction of the crowd. That is one of those

:16:14.:16:20.

great chicken and egg dilemmas. The players might say that the crowd did

:16:21.:16:23.

not get behind me but the crowd would say you were not playing well

:16:24.:16:30.

enough! Always an interesting dance. -- balance.

:16:31.:16:36.

That's more like it! That was more like the first set. She was hitting

:16:37.:16:47.

those forehands down the line all the time in the first set and they

:16:48.:16:52.

were working beautifully because Beck was not really spotting them.

:16:53.:17:06.

There was a little bit more pace off the ball from Beck but really a

:17:07.:17:13.

forehand that Watson should have made. She is jogging around, trying

:17:14.:17:18.

her best to get going. UMPIRE: Miss Watson is challenging

:17:19.:17:35.

the call, it was called in. I know we can get obsessed by statistics,

:17:36.:17:41.

in sport in generally, but Heather Watson, 32 unforced errors in this

:17:42.:17:44.

match and Beck has 13. Ouch. Thank you very much. Heather will

:17:45.:18:15.

take those all-day. That was really tentative from Beck. That look like

:18:16.:18:22.

a serve where she had looked at the scoreboard and thought, if I win

:18:23.:18:24.

this point I am 4-0 up. Oh no, very awkward on the shot from

:18:25.:18:46.

Watson, or over the place with her balance. -- all over the place.

:18:47.:18:53.

Annika Beck with a point for a 4-0 lead.

:18:54.:19:07.

I don't know if Watson was just holding her leg. She was very low on

:19:08.:19:28.

the ball. She comes across... Her mum was looking at her anxiously. I

:19:29.:19:36.

think that is what mums always do! I guess! That was a good serve by

:19:37.:19:46.

Beck. I think Heather lost her footing in that previous point. Her

:19:47.:19:49.

left foot slipped beneath her. Great shot, Heather Watson! That's

:19:50.:20:25.

more like it. Because Beck was hitting the ball whole lot harder in

:20:26.:20:30.

this rally and suddenly Watson switches it and she could not catch

:20:31.:20:37.

that. This could be a really pivotal moment in this match. If Heather can

:20:38.:20:44.

get back into it, doubts might start creeping in for Beck. That is a wild

:20:45.:20:46.

first serve. She played that so well. You could

:20:47.:21:06.

tell that Beck knew how important that point was, the second serve was

:21:07.:21:13.

69 mph. She was basically saying, go on, over to you, I'm giving you the

:21:14.:21:18.

chance to win the point and she did just that so here is a break back

:21:19.:21:23.

point to break a run of nine consecutive games she has lost.

:21:24.:21:35.

That is caught 12 down on the bottom right. And caught number two on the

:21:36.:22:07.

right-hand side is where Dan Evans is playing so this is like a British

:22:08.:22:11.

enclave! -- court. She has left it awfully late but

:22:12.:22:19.

better late than never. That was what was happening an awful

:22:20.:22:41.

lot in the first set. Beck knows, she had three game points in that

:22:42.:22:47.

last game for a 4-0 lead. And she was almost Dolly Inc in the second

:22:48.:22:51.

serve and hoping Heather would give it to her rather than take it

:22:52.:23:00.

herself -- dollying. But better reaction now from Heather. You can

:23:01.:23:05.

see that mentally she is in it, she has the feeling that she can still

:23:06.:23:07.

win this. That of course is one of the great

:23:08.:23:28.

differences of the women's game. One break of serve is not necessarily

:23:29.:23:29.

the end of the world. That is another good forehand from

:23:30.:23:49.

Heather. The force is with her now. It was perfect because she tries

:23:50.:23:55.

this into the corner, and this stands up and Watson takes it right

:23:56.:23:59.

on top of the bounce, she flattens it out.

:24:00.:24:15.

That forehand is working well. A big shriek from Heather. Suddenly we

:24:16.:24:28.

could be 3-2 and that is a very different ball game to 4-0 which she

:24:29.:24:33.

might have been. Look at the footwork now, much better and more

:24:34.:24:34.

dynamic. If she can just win this point, the

:24:35.:25:04.

doubts might start creeping into Beck's mind. She does have a break

:25:05.:25:08.

of serve but it is not like playing John Isner where if you are a break

:25:09.:25:15.

of serve down you ring Uber and check out of the hotel! It's not the

:25:16.:25:17.

same. That was... Golly. It was horrible

:25:18.:25:41.

because Heather tried to get her first serve in by ticking the pace

:25:42.:25:47.

off, it was only 86 mph, so that is really going to hurt. That was, I

:25:48.:26:01.

must get this in. It was out but 108 will make her feel a lot better.

:26:02.:26:28.

That was a potential winner until it hit the net. The net took it wide

:26:29.:26:36.

and now, we have said this half dozen times in this match, but the

:26:37.:26:42.

wonders of the tennis scoring system, suddenly when you thought

:26:43.:26:46.

you were right back in the game, if Annika Beck can win this point,

:26:47.:26:48.

Heather Watson might be out of it. UMPIRE: Miss Watson is challenging

:26:49.:27:01.

the call. It was called out. I think it was out as well. That was a much

:27:02.:27:08.

more positive swing at the ball. But clearly wide.

:27:09.:27:30.

APPLAUSE A lot at stake on that point. And

:27:31.:27:40.

they both knew it. I thought Beck might stand further up the court

:27:41.:27:44.

because she was bossing the point but she ended up quite far behind

:27:45.:27:47.

the baseline. Watson hanging in. And another of those unforced errors

:27:48.:28:09.

that are bedevilling her game now. That is 37 now in this match.

:28:10.:28:15.

Another opportunity for the German to seize the initiative.

:28:16.:28:27.

And Heather will be bitterly disappointed by that, as you can

:28:28.:28:35.

see, hurling her racket into the ground. And a code violation, she

:28:36.:28:47.

does not like that racket at all. She is livid with herself because it

:28:48.:28:52.

was not as though Beck won that game, Heather gave it to her. She

:28:53.:28:58.

almost broke herself, unfortunately. I understand her frustration because

:28:59.:29:02.

she was getting going, the crowd were with her and she was hitting

:29:03.:29:07.

those shots down the line which she had done so well in the first set

:29:08.:29:10.

but now she is playing catch-up again. Maybe the moment has gone

:29:11.:29:16.

because Beck was definitely feeling more uptight. We

:29:17.:29:28.

mentioned unforced errors. If you look at it in game terms, 38

:29:29.:29:31.

unforced errors from Heather, 16 from Beck, a difference of 22 points

:29:32.:29:34.

which is almost a set. And nine games in a row, a lot of them were

:29:35.:29:40.

in there. Beck is playing quite defensively and waiting for the

:29:41.:29:45.

Watson errors at the moment. There was variation in the quality of her

:29:46.:29:49.

performance in the last game because she hit some great forehand and then

:29:50.:29:54.

one or two shots that were simply not good enough for a player

:29:55.:29:59.

aspiring to play at the level that she does. Here we are at 4-1 and

:30:00.:30:02.

Beck has two breaks of serve. But you still sense that there might

:30:03.:30:15.

be a lot of tennis in this match. Especially... There are nerves on

:30:16.:30:23.

both sides of this court. Beck is not exactly going after her serve so

:30:24.:30:25.

Watson has a chance. Good shot. It's a great forehand

:30:26.:30:59.

from Watson. Loads of spin, and this was very flat. What a super angle.

:31:00.:31:11.

It was the right one to try. The gap was there. She loves that backhand

:31:12.:31:22.

down the line. She has to give herself a bit of a gee up.

:31:23.:31:43.

Well played, Heather. Moving the German from one side of the court to

:31:44.:31:55.

the other. Watson played a great return and of course she's going to

:31:56.:32:01.

come in after that. On an overhead, she is very good. I have never seen

:32:02.:32:19.

her miss one. And low and behold,... So who is going to take this game by

:32:20.:32:25.

the Schruff of the neck? 4-2 in the final set and you would say that

:32:26.:32:34.

Beck can see the finish line. And she can ease past her if she cut out

:32:35.:32:45.

the errors. Perhaps it is positive. That is a wide server. When you can

:32:46.:32:54.

see your opponent at the other side, you can see the tension on their

:32:55.:32:57.

shoulders, not quite getting through their shots as much.

:32:58.:33:19.

Let's draw a veil over that point and say that Heather won it, and she

:33:20.:33:27.

is 30-0 up. If she can hold here, she is right back in this.

:33:28.:33:46.

Three aces for Heather so far in this match.

:33:47.:34:02.

A game to love, and now the pressure is all on Beck. Which coaching team

:34:03.:34:16.

would you like to be part of now? I would fancy Watson. Coming from

:34:17.:34:22.

behind sometimes is slightly easier because there is no option. You have

:34:23.:34:29.

to be bold and brave. She has the fire back in her eyes. Her coaches

:34:30.:34:40.

working part time with her. He has a young family. But Annika Beck is

:34:41.:34:44.

feeling it out here, trying to get this win. At 4-1, you can see the

:34:45.:34:54.

locker room, you can sense the shower of victory. And you tends to

:34:55.:34:57.

be a bit tentative unless you really go for it. She had one or two poor

:34:58.:35:03.

ground strokes and suddenly you glance at the scoreboard and you

:35:04.:35:12.

think, wasn't I up? Beck needs to work her serve a little better

:35:13.:35:16.

because Watson is returning very well. Heather's mum has moved set.

:35:17.:35:23.

Sending positive energy to her daughter.

:35:24.:35:29.

Don't give anything at the moment. I don't think there is any need to go

:35:30.:36:00.

near line. That is how so many rallies in the

:36:01.:36:32.

first set ended up. With a back forehand or backhand. -- Beck

:36:33.:36:44.

forehand. You can sense from Heather's body position, she is

:36:45.:36:48.

prowling. She consents she is onto something. -- she can sense. Another

:36:49.:37:00.

one in the net from Beck. And when you get tense, you don't reveal your

:37:01.:37:05.

whole stroke, you just hold off a bit, your muscles are getting

:37:06.:37:06.

tighter. Were played to the German. Two

:37:07.:37:37.

positive ground strokes. But still an opportunity for Heather to get

:37:38.:37:47.

them back to level pegging. She's been to the nets twice in the entire

:37:48.:37:51.

match, and lost the point on both occasions. Oh dear. Both serves in

:37:52.:38:05.

the 60s, that tells you how nervous Annika Beck is at the moment. And

:38:06.:38:11.

the initiative has well and truly passed to Heather Watson. Ten

:38:12.:38:19.

minutes ago she was 4-1 down and now she is at for all. -- 4-4. The food

:38:20.:38:28.

workers got better and better this set?

:38:29.:38:39.

It is all Watson now. Every servers going out wide and getting good

:38:40.:38:54.

reward. -- every server is going out wide.

:38:55.:39:29.

That is a way to do it. The crowd on her side right now. She has such

:39:30.:39:41.

good deal around the net area. She gets underneath the ball, wrote nice

:39:42.:39:50.

and low. The time for composure for Heather

:39:51.:40:23.

Watson because she could serve this out. Annika Beck is going to be

:40:24.:40:26.

dreading the next service game. And you have to say, how positive

:40:27.:40:56.

Heather has been. At 4-1 down it is so easy to not exactly throw the

:40:57.:41:01.

towel in but say, how are you playing? It was like that at the

:41:02.:41:05.

beginning, she could hardly make a ball. But it is all about managing

:41:06.:41:10.

your emotions, working around the problems yourself. And she has got

:41:11.:41:13.

herself going with the footwork, the way she is getting onto the ball,

:41:14.:41:17.

showing Beck that she is willing to go it more than Beck is. She really

:41:18.:41:22.

wanted her opponents to mess to win the match, she did not want to win

:41:23.:41:26.

it. But Heather is out there to win it now. And a penny for those

:41:27.:41:31.

thoughts at the moment. Her serve has got slower and slower and

:41:32.:41:35.

slower, and more and more tentative as the set has gone on. It's not

:41:36.:41:45.

easy to go out and say, right, I'm going to really give it a go. She

:41:46.:41:52.

has only won three points in the last four games. She is really up

:41:53.:41:56.

against it. Unlikely. The chance was there. The

:41:57.:42:32.

crowd growing, they really want you to win so much.

:42:33.:42:50.

And that is frustrating. You can see an Heather's face, the annoyance.

:42:51.:42:57.

Two points that she has effectively given to the German. And that really

:42:58.:43:02.

flew off the racket. I think the first one was a good one to go for.

:43:03.:43:07.

That cannot have felt great. Off the line. The ebb and flow of tennis is

:43:08.:43:16.

such that Heather last nine games in a row in the middle of this match

:43:17.:43:19.

and it could very easily have been ten. And now she has won four in a

:43:20.:43:26.

row, and that is the run that Beck is trying to break to get them back

:43:27.:43:30.

to five apiece. Beck will feel a lot better after

:43:31.:43:50.

that. She was helped along by Watson. Those first two points. But

:43:51.:43:54.

then she hit through the ball very well. It is all about serve and

:43:55.:44:02.

return at the moment. Watson needs to get a high percentage of first

:44:03.:44:05.

serves in. She does not need to hit that hard on grass. She is hitting

:44:06.:44:14.

the white one well. You feel that if Watson's forehands down the line had

:44:15.:44:18.

been in, that first point, it would be game over now. Becker would have

:44:19.:44:25.

thought, it is getting away from me. But now we back the match. -- but

:44:26.:44:34.

now we are back into the match. New balls, of course, so it will be

:44:35.:44:37.

interesting to see who can control them better. And the wind getting

:44:38.:44:39.

up. Quite noticeably. Very hard to tell which way it is

:44:40.:44:59.

blowing because the weather vane at the end is going all over the place.

:45:00.:45:07.

I think it is left to right. From those trees, it is going from the

:45:08.:45:09.

umpires chair across the stand. That had served her so well

:45:10.:45:37.

throughout this match, the drop shot. She plays it well, normally.

:45:38.:45:45.

Maybe Beck took a step towards the net and tried to play it to close.

:45:46.:45:59.

That serves, out wide to the forehand, it has served her very

:46:00.:46:20.

well throughout this match. Exulting herself to greater efforts there.

:46:21.:46:27.

And the crowd with her, too. At the moment, I imagine she is trying to

:46:28.:46:29.

target that forehand again. A great shot. That was almost

:46:30.:46:55.

Samprasesque. That will make a great photo. Two positive points to get

:46:56.:47:14.

back to 30-30. Come on, she says. An ace. Heather Watson on fire.

:47:15.:47:22.

And having faced the possibility of losing her serve, here we are now

:47:23.:47:28.

with the chance for a 6-5 lead in the set. And a big cheer from the

:47:29.:47:55.

crowd on courts 12. -- court 12. We have been playing now for two hours

:47:56.:47:59.

and five minutes, as you can see from the bottom of that caption.

:48:00.:48:03.

This has been a match of three halves. The first three games played

:48:04.:48:06.

yesterday lunchtime and we came back for an hour and a quarter yesterday

:48:07.:48:13.

evening, during which Heather won the first set and lost the second.

:48:14.:48:17.

Now we have been here for nearly 45 minutes, and it has been ebb and

:48:18.:48:21.

flow again. It seemed like it was going Beck's way and then it was

:48:22.:48:25.

Heather's weight but now the pressure once more is really on the

:48:26.:48:33.

young German. I thought that was a fascinating game by Watson. 0-30

:48:34.:48:38.

down, she looked like she might lose her serve but she steeled herself

:48:39.:48:42.

and thought about it. Very composed in the end.

:48:43.:48:50.

What a difference a day makes. This time yesterday it was grey and

:48:51.:48:58.

dreary and very hard to get anybody is used on or off the court. But

:48:59.:49:07.

now, a real buzz. -- anybody infused.

:49:08.:49:28.

Good depicting. She likes to go down the line. -- good deep pitting.

:49:29.:50:02.

Well, that was a tremendous winning shot from Beck. But it was real cat

:50:03.:50:12.

and mouse there. Beck has not played many of these. And Watson came back

:50:13.:50:20.

with a short one. Becker knew she was going to do it so she was right

:50:21.:50:29.

there. The redrop, which I think is a word that is creeping into the

:50:30.:50:33.

tennis vocabulary. A drop shot off the drop shot.

:50:34.:50:40.

That was a first serve of 67 mph. And that was a second serve at 63

:50:41.:50:50.

mph. The winds to get away from Watson. It is trickier cheer. It is

:50:51.:51:00.

hard, because you have to generate your own racket speed.

:51:01.:51:17.

That was a terrific down the line winner from Heather.

:51:18.:51:26.

So you can talk about forehand and backhand is an slow serves and

:51:27.:51:53.

whatever you want to talk about but this is when it comes down to nerve.

:51:54.:51:57.

This is all about courage and nerve and who is willing to grab the

:51:58.:52:03.

moment. But what a better look today at Wimbledon, with a bit of sun. It

:52:04.:52:11.

changes your outlook of life. Shadows all over the court.

:52:12.:52:24.

That is the sum up there. Oh, Heather.

:52:25.:52:52.

An ace. Ace number six. That really was a rabbit from a hat. That was

:52:53.:53:14.

amazing. Talk about being courageous.

:53:15.:53:33.

Merely. If I was Heather I would have challenged that.

:53:34.:54:02.

Didn't get up to that bowl. Stretching for it. No control. Will

:54:03.:54:14.

she go to her favourite wide serve on this crucial point.

:54:15.:54:20.

Are we close to the tipping point here?

:54:21.:54:51.

That is a loose shot, a really loose shot from Heather Watson. And her

:54:52.:55:01.

coaching team, Jeremy Bates, as you can see, he has come down to watch

:55:02.:55:08.

the end of the match. That was a forehand with no belief.

:55:09.:55:20.

My goodness. She was saying it was a bad bounce but she was very far

:55:21.:55:26.

behind the baseline. The ball did not get to her. It is all a bit

:55:27.:55:34.

jittery at the moment. It sure is. This is the nerve centre of

:55:35.:55:35.

Wimbledon. At the moment, Beck is hitting

:55:36.:56:09.

through the ball better than Watson. She is committing to it.

:56:10.:56:30.

Ace number six could not have come at a better time for Heather Watson.

:56:31.:56:39.

She went to her trusty serve out wide, which gave her a

:56:40.:56:59.

straightforward forehand down the line. Psychologists always talk

:57:00.:57:08.

about treating each point in isolation, treating 15-0 in the

:57:09.:57:13.

first game the same way you would treat 6-6 in the third. There is

:57:14.:57:16.

more on it, but you were trying to get on with it.

:57:17.:57:50.

That was the brain sending messages to the arm and to the shoulder and

:57:51.:57:58.

ultimately to the racket. Seven aces, six double faults. Slide the

:57:59.:58:03.

first serve in. She is not wide. -- she is not wired

:58:04.:58:12.

into you, Jo. She went for it. And she gave it too

:58:13.:58:55.

much. No wonder Watson is taking a little bit more time.

:58:56.:59:16.

Great server. What she wouldn't give for two more of those. She composed

:59:17.:59:25.

herself beautifully for that serve. It is so tense here, you really can

:59:26.:00:12.

cut the atmosphere with a knife. I don't think Watson wants a forehand

:00:13.:00:15.

at the moment. And I think Beck knows that.

:00:16.:00:57.

Well, that was a huge point and both players played well together for the

:00:58.:01:05.

first time in a while. And Heather took the gamble and it didn't pay

:01:06.:01:14.

off. And Annika Beck will serve for the match in just a moment. We had

:01:15.:01:22.

better breathe as well! It was very uptight, that long rally, they were

:01:23.:01:27.

both trying to hit it and it wasn't quite coming off the racket sweetly.

:01:28.:01:34.

Who was going to miss first? Beck was slightly stronger. She was

:01:35.:01:38.

scrambling well because Heather was in the ascendancy and dictating it

:01:39.:01:42.

but not to the point where she could put it away. You are saying it is

:01:43.:01:49.

tense, it always amazes me at matches like this that there are not

:01:50.:01:53.

more people taken ill from the coaching panels and parents and

:01:54.:01:58.

friends! You play every shot and especially in a game like this that

:01:59.:02:03.

swings one way and the other, how you remain phlegmatic and calm...

:02:04.:02:09.

You have to, as a coach, because your player will look at you so

:02:10.:02:15.

whatever you are feeling you had to portray calmness. The thing about

:02:16.:02:22.

this match is that Annika Beck will not serve Heather Watson off the

:02:23.:02:26.

court. This serve has been broken several times already and can be

:02:27.:02:30.

broken again. Heather as to seize the moment and get back on level

:02:31.:02:36.

terms or otherwise she is going out of Wimbledon in the first round.

:02:37.:02:38.

Annika Beck serving for the match. APPLAUSE

:02:39.:03:09.

Well played, Heather. I am surprised Beck did not put a lob up, it might

:03:10.:03:17.

have induced a few jitters. I think she is very tense about finishing

:03:18.:03:20.

off this match so all is not lost yet.

:03:21.:03:43.

APPLAUSE Never in doubt! As it left the

:03:44.:03:55.

racket head, you thought it was going wide and it just caught this

:03:56.:04:03.

puff of white. It wasn't hit cleanly but it was on the line.

:04:04.:04:12.

And that was on the line as welcome it held the ball up. -- as well, it

:04:13.:04:26.

held the ball up. That is just the rub of the green.

:04:27.:04:38.

Lovely. Good shot, Heather. Positive, sweetly struck. Hitting

:04:39.:04:52.

her forehand so much better in this game.

:04:53.:04:59.

APPLAUSE Well, who wants to win this match?

:05:00.:05:13.

I think they both probably want to win it too badly and this is what it

:05:14.:05:22.

comes down to. No tie-breaks here at Wimbledon so you had to play it out.

:05:23.:05:27.

And the scheduling committee are thinking, we will put this game on

:05:28.:05:31.

first and be done by half past 11 and then we can get on! Here we are,

:05:32.:05:36.

another hour later and it is anybody's match.

:05:37.:06:06.

And it is the Beck ground strokes that are breaking down now. You feel

:06:07.:06:18.

that Heather has the armoury to win this match which Beck does not have

:06:19.:06:24.

and that might be the key factor. She is certainly serving better than

:06:25.:06:25.

her opponent. We said at 4-1 to Beck that there

:06:26.:06:39.

was a lot of tennis still to play but I'm not sure we thought quite

:06:40.:06:42.

this much. I thought that was going to go over

:06:43.:07:20.

for a second. There is an air of resignation over Beck and three

:07:21.:07:28.

points for a 8-7 lead for Heather Watson in the final set.

:07:29.:07:32.

APPLAUSE I'm not sure what Beck was

:07:33.:07:43.

complaining about because that was a sweetly struck ace, number eight of

:07:44.:07:44.

the match. This final set has been an hour and

:07:45.:07:58.

a quarter so far. It could easily have been won 40 minutes or so ago

:07:59.:08:03.

but now the opportunity is there for Heather Watson to break Beck's serve

:08:04.:08:11.

and make it through to the second round but... The momentum keeps

:08:12.:08:15.

shifting from end to end, sometimes going ahead, you don't keep hitting

:08:16.:08:21.

the ball and they have both been guilty of that. Even if Beck hit it,

:08:22.:08:27.

she does not go in after it so Watson can scramble at the back of

:08:28.:08:32.

the court and wait for a better shot to hit herself. It's exhausting! It

:08:33.:08:39.

is. All day yesterday from beginning to end they were on and off and then

:08:40.:08:44.

starting first today, the whole process is totally exhausting. That

:08:45.:08:51.

was Heather's mum, Michelle, who has been going through this for the last

:08:52.:08:58.

12 years and more. I don't suppose for a second that it gets any

:08:59.:09:06.

easier. She was just as engaged in the under 12s 12 years ago, playing

:09:07.:09:14.

every agonising point. On the line again. You could see how it hopped

:09:15.:09:16.

at Watson. There doesn't seem to be an

:09:17.:09:41.

advantage from being ahead in this set. Or serving.

:09:42.:09:54.

That was an easy shot to play, didn't need to hit it too hard. She

:09:55.:10:02.

is serving a bit better in this game actually.

:10:03.:10:14.

Heather Cross with that because that game went past in the blink of an

:10:15.:10:23.

eye and from 8-7 it is 8-8 swiftly. Should we have a final set tie-break

:10:24.:10:27.

here at Wimbledon? It has been talked about a lot am especially for

:10:28.:10:30.

the guys in their five set matches. You can talk about having a

:10:31.:10:56.

tie-break in the final set here, John Isner is on the next-door

:10:57.:10:59.

court, let's ask him! Exactly. I couldn't believe that one on the

:11:00.:11:51.

baseline was in, that Watson didn't challenge. Neither of them wanting

:11:52.:11:53.

to hit the ball at the moment. She came straight over the top of

:11:54.:12:53.

that shot. You have made the point several times during this lengthy

:12:54.:12:58.

third set which is heading towards an hour and a half, how Beck has

:12:59.:13:04.

been targeting Heather's forehand. When it's good, it's very good but

:13:05.:13:08.

she has also conceded a lot of points on it as well.

:13:09.:13:20.

Watson a lot happier, she got a few backhands in a row to go for.

:13:21.:13:57.

APPLAUSE Beck goes long.

:13:58.:14:08.

I think a gust of wind just took that ball as well. Here is Heather

:14:09.:14:15.

looking at a 9-8 lead. Beck a full yard inside the

:14:16.:14:31.

baseline. But then she retreats a long way

:14:32.:14:43.

behind it and puts the ball way over the other end.

:14:44.:14:54.

We can't call it an epic but it's long! It's long and nervy and

:14:55.:15:05.

extremely tiring, when you had yesterday with all the rain, coming

:15:06.:15:11.

in and playing first today and it is dragging it out of these two at the

:15:12.:15:15.

moment. It is very difficult at this stage of the match, the first round

:15:16.:15:19.

of a Grand Slam, there is so much on it. Whether you can be brave enough

:15:20.:15:23.

to hit the ball and go for it when it is there. The oldest cliche in

:15:24.:15:32.

the world, the hardest point to win in tennis is the final point, as

:15:33.:15:36.

Heather will tell you from what was an epic match against Serena

:15:37.:15:40.

Williams last year when she was within two point of beating the

:15:41.:15:45.

number one seed. She has got to the third round here in the past. Her

:15:46.:15:50.

opponent has only got to the second round before. But they both

:15:51.:15:54.

desperately want a chance to be in the second round against probably

:15:55.:16:03.

Kristina Mladenovic. We are so far behind schedule, there is a second

:16:04.:16:06.

round match waiting for one of these two tomorrow but who will it be? Who

:16:07.:16:10.

can seize the moment? No, again, not quite getting

:16:11.:16:24.

through. I know the serve landed on the line and it was very awkward but

:16:25.:16:30.

there was that forehand where Watson doesn't get enough racket head

:16:31.:16:31.

speed. Another error from Heather's racket.

:16:32.:16:56.

And if Beck was to win this match in the end, it would be the unfortunate

:16:57.:17:00.

errors that Heather would look back on, they currently stand at 56-26

:17:01.:17:04.

against her. A 30 point differential in the

:17:05.:17:20.

unforced errors. Well, she should go for that but if you are up to it a

:17:21.:17:27.

bit further, it is a bit easier. Beck held her last service game very

:17:28.:17:36.

easily. And she has held that even more easily.

:17:37.:17:44.

Here we go. You forgot to try to keep your focus. It is a very long

:17:45.:17:52.

match and taking a very long time. You have to try not to judge point

:17:53.:17:57.

by point but try your hardest on every one. It is from here.

:17:58.:18:04.

Beck guessed right. Good from Watson, she made herself really

:18:05.:18:39.

rotate into that and hit it and go for it. And so important to win the

:18:40.:18:44.

first point in the game at this stage in the contest. A tiny

:18:45.:18:45.

cushion. APPLAUSE

:18:46.:18:54.

That is a bigger cushion now. Great shot, Heather Watson! CHEERING

:18:55.:19:44.

AND APPLAUSE And again!

:19:45.:19:52.

Oh! What up point. Take a breath again. Ladies and gentlemen, as a

:19:53.:20:03.

courtesy to both players, please remain quiet during the points.

:20:04.:20:18.

Almost impossible for the moment to anybody to win up point against the

:20:19.:20:38.

serve. -- win a point. I actually think the umpire can instead of

:20:39.:20:42.

saying what she said, should be telling everybody to get more

:20:43.:20:47.

involved! Shout and scream more like in the Davis Cup! It is great when

:20:48.:20:51.

they get involved. They certainly did in that point. It was a great

:20:52.:20:57.

drop shot from Heather and a great get from Beck and then she did well

:20:58.:21:05.

to get back after the lob. And in these tricky conditions, it is quite

:21:06.:21:12.

blustery, to judge it right. She knew her opponent would get that

:21:13.:21:15.

very near the net but from that position it is very difficult. And

:21:16.:21:22.

then Beck is fast. That was a good get but yet again, the Watson

:21:23.:21:32.

overhead is brilliant. A swirling wind but she kept her eye on the

:21:33.:21:36.

ball until the key moment. She obviously has her game face on now

:21:37.:21:43.

because she has tied her hair up in a bun! No distractions! There is a

:21:44.:21:51.

job to be done and do it now. And new balls. Again, who will be bold

:21:52.:21:57.

enough to hit them? Oh yes! Beck's last two service games have

:21:58.:22:15.

been very straightforward for the German but you sense this might be

:22:16.:22:17.

Heather's moment. Yes, take that! 0-30, two points

:22:18.:22:39.

from victory. She is waiting to pounce on these short serves.

:22:40.:22:58.

CHEERING That error from Annika Beck means,

:22:59.:23:09.

after two and three quarters hours out here on court 12, over 26 hours

:23:10.:23:15.

since we began, it is match point. And still match point. It's nice

:23:16.:23:30.

when you have three in a row! Whatever happens here, it will still

:23:31.:23:36.

be match point. Heather Watson on the cusp of the second round.

:23:37.:23:49.

That is a brilliant shot. And Watson didn't do much. The ball wasn't

:23:50.:24:00.

going anywhere, it was ripe to be hit. Well now...

:24:01.:24:10.

That was a really nervous first serve.

:24:11.:24:44.

It's the line! You have to say, that was very brave from Beck. Heather

:24:45.:24:59.

Watson had three match points. And the German, who has been so

:25:00.:25:04.

tentative when facing opportunities to win the match, suddenly

:25:05.:25:07.

discovered boldness when she was on the point of losing.

:25:08.:25:29.

That is well played again from Beck. The ball was swirling around. Watson

:25:30.:25:40.

started off the game so proactive, going after the serve, and she has

:25:41.:25:44.

not done it since then. It is hard to make yourself do it. Now Beck has

:25:45.:25:49.

a chance for 10-10. And she takes it. Huge frustration

:25:50.:26:10.

for Heather Watson who had three match points in that game. And you

:26:11.:26:18.

would have to say also, huge frustration for the German camp.

:26:19.:26:24.

There we are, 93 minutes, this final set. I am sure they are looking at

:26:25.:26:29.

their player going, why did you not played with that panache and

:26:30.:26:33.

confidence when the game was sitting there, waiting for you to seize it?

:26:34.:26:38.

I will say again, it is very easy from here.

:26:39.:27:07.

You could see she held back on the drive volley and you just can't, you

:27:08.:27:17.

have to have a full swing. The first set was all Watson, the second set

:27:18.:27:22.

all Beck and this final set is all over the place. 10-10.

:27:23.:27:51.

It is 0-30 on Heather's serve now but as this match has proven, it

:27:52.:28:00.

does not matter who is serving and returning, every point is played in

:28:01.:28:05.

isolation. The betting exchanges on this match must be extraordinary as

:28:06.:28:10.

it has fluctuated one way and the other. Seven points in a road now

:28:11.:28:12.

for Beck. -- in a row. And she will be cross about that. It

:28:13.:28:30.

was a good serve from Heather that came in on the wind which is

:28:31.:28:35.

blowing, as you are looking, left to right from the umpire's chair across

:28:36.:28:40.

to the stand on the other side but she got tucked up a bit there.

:28:41.:28:49.

And that is to make the game simple, just serve and ace and be done with

:28:50.:29:00.

it. Nine now for Watson. And when she serves one, she usually serves

:29:01.:29:03.

two or three in a game. Oh no. From one extreme to the

:29:04.:29:29.

other. I was trying to be positive. I'm going to nudge you in the ribs

:29:30.:29:35.

to say, don't do that again! Nine aces but seven double points and now

:29:36.:29:41.

it is break point for Annika Beck for an 11-10 lead.

:29:42.:30:06.

Well, it's not the end of the world by any means because history in this

:30:07.:30:20.

match tells us that you cannot read anything into who is serving for the

:30:21.:30:28.

match ought not serving and who has the ascendancy or not but you would

:30:29.:30:33.

rather be 11-10 up than down. I think lingering still those three

:30:34.:30:38.

match points because when you have them in a row you can be brave on

:30:39.:30:42.

the first one and as it goes on, especially Watson got a bit passive

:30:43.:30:46.

on them and that was a hangover into the next game. The thing is, I just

:30:47.:30:52.

don't see Beck coming out and being as positive as she was when she was

:30:53.:30:57.

0-40 down so it is hard to judge what will happen next in this match.

:30:58.:31:05.

We have had so many players who have been 0-30 down who have then won the

:31:06.:31:15.

game, that it is by no means certain what is going to happen. We're

:31:16.:31:18.

heading close to two hours and 50 minutes on Court 12. And this,

:31:19.:31:26.

effectively, is now a penalty shoot out. Between Germany and England.

:31:27.:31:34.

A mess by Watson. I didn't think Beck was being particularly

:31:35.:31:53.

proactive. That was, I think, the slowest

:31:54.:32:22.

server of the day. And it's not what it deserved. It did. And Watson

:32:23.:32:35.

controlled at beautifully. She did not have to hit it that hard. She

:32:36.:32:39.

will be cross about that. And she will be even more cross

:32:40.:33:13.

about that. As the clock ticks towards three hours out your own

:33:14.:33:18.

Court 12, Heather Watson finds herself two match points down

:33:19.:33:30.

against Annika Beck of Germany. But there we are. In moments of crisis,

:33:31.:33:35.

everybody is going for the big shot and they are making them. But that

:33:36.:33:40.

was a backhand for Watson to have a go at. I think she was quite

:33:41.:33:47.

relieved. One match points saved by Heather Watson. Can she save the

:33:48.:33:48.

second? She can't. That has gone long. And

:33:49.:34:20.

Annika Beck of Germany, in a match that began more than a day ago on

:34:21.:34:26.

Court 12, has won an extraordinary match of ebb and flow against

:34:27.:34:35.

Heather Watson. 3-6, 6-0, 12-10, and the final set, where the initial

:34:36.:34:42.

Nestor -- initiative switched back and forth and you were never sure

:34:43.:34:47.

who was going to grasp the nettle in the end. Heather Watson leaves Court

:34:48.:34:53.

12 very rapidly, very disappointed. SUE BARKER: Huge disappointment.

:34:54.:34:57.

Annika Beck, so strong. Heather Watson fighting hard but it is so

:34:58.:35:02.

tough and it is so disappointing, heartbreaking to lose a match here

:35:03.:35:07.

at Wimbledon. So close, when you have had so many chances,

:35:08.:35:10.

particularly at 0-40. Heather Watson, out of The Championships.

:35:11.:35:18.

That was a short time ago, and we will be catching up shortly. But

:35:19.:35:22.

plenty happening elsewhere. This was Court Number One I short while ago,

:35:23.:35:27.

with Gregor Dimitrov, great to see him back. A semifinalist in 2014 but

:35:28.:35:33.

how has he been doing? He has been struggling for form since then, now

:35:34.:35:38.

ranked 37 in the world. He is up against Gilles Simon, a

:35:39.:35:41.

quarterfinalist last year. That is starting on Court Number One and if

:35:42.:35:44.

you want to watch that, it will be on the red button. Simon against

:35:45.:35:56.

Dimitrov on the red button. And meanwhile over on Centre Court, here

:35:57.:36:02.

comes Kei Nishikori, up against Julien Benneteau, who has a ranking

:36:03.:36:14.

of 547. He has a protected ranking of 39. Kei Nishikori, he had an

:36:15.:36:20.

injury scare and had the trainer on for his first-round match. But he

:36:21.:36:23.

says he is fit and healthy and that matches on court. It is available

:36:24.:36:31.

online, on the website and on the app. And this is happening

:36:32.:36:36.

elsewhere. Venus Williams, the five-time champion out on Court 18,

:36:37.:36:43.

and she has started well, up a break of serve already. Follow that

:36:44.:36:48.

online. Isn't it lovely to see the sun shining around Wimbledon. Wada

:36:49.:36:53.

change for the last three days. And that is what is happening your life.

:36:54.:36:59.

Plenty of results to bring you. Sloane Stephens, a quarterfinalist

:37:00.:37:04.

in 2013, seeded 18 at these championships, she is through, 7-6,

:37:05.:37:15.

6-2. A good Grand Slam Red Ed. She was a semifinalist at the Australian

:37:16.:37:23.

Open as well. The 18th seed, safely through against Shuai Peng. But one

:37:24.:37:27.

seed is going out, Christine and more than a pitch of France, the

:37:28.:37:35.

21st seed, she has lost in only her second Wimbledon.

:37:36.:37:55.

Bacsinsky, in some form on Court number three, uncomfortably through

:37:56.:38:02.

6-4, 6-2. Always an exciting to watch. Some men's result and Sam

:38:03.:38:13.

Querrey, the big server from America, he has only reached the

:38:14.:38:21.

fourth round here, but he is safe, through against Thomaz Bellucci,

:38:22.:38:25.

6-4, 6-3, 6-2, but waiting for him in the next round, Djokavic. From

:38:26.:38:32.

one big server to another. John Isner, the 18th seed, back here at

:38:33.:38:36.

Wimbledon, and he has come through against Marcus Baghdatis. He came

:38:37.:38:41.

back from 4-1 down in the second is to take it on a tie-break. Took the

:38:42.:38:47.

third set 6-3. John Isner is through in straight sets. And he will face

:38:48.:39:00.

Matthew Barton, who finished off his match against Olivetti, who came

:39:01.:39:06.

through on a protected ranking. The crowd loving this match. What a

:39:07.:39:14.

battle out on Court Number Ten. Four hours in three minutes and his

:39:15.:39:17.

Australian fans, cheering him every inch of the way. Four hours and

:39:18.:39:25.

three minutes, I think he will be sore tomorrow, through to face John

:39:26.:39:31.

Isner. We are thoroughly enjoying the weather here. Plenty of ten is

:39:32.:39:36.

underway. And we are going from one British player to another. Dan Evans

:39:37.:39:41.

is in action as against Alexandr Dolgopolov. This match was held over

:39:42.:39:48.

from last night. Dan Evans won the first set tie-break and then went on

:39:49.:39:52.

to take the second set against the 30th seed. We join it at the start

:39:53.:39:56.

of the third set with Dolgopolov to serve.

:39:57.:42:34.

Evans having a conversation with himself. What an error from

:42:35.:42:48.

Dolgopolov. Another chance. For Evans to take hold of the set at the

:42:49.:43:04.

beginning. And he has. From 40-15, he has sealed the game. Dolgopolov

:43:05.:43:11.

must be wondering what the heck is going on. From 40-15, he really did

:43:12.:43:19.

leave the door ajar but Evans sprinted through it. And this

:43:20.:43:25.

passing shot here, it is the result of him being in the gym, going about

:43:26.:43:31.

his business day-to-day, like a pro. It is a shot he would not have been

:43:32.:43:33.

able to play this time last year. It shows you the quality of his

:43:34.:45:04.

performance so far, it is a real surprise when an error like that

:45:05.:45:05.

comes. In control of things at the moment.

:45:06.:47:01.

Dolgopolov trying to extricate himself.

:47:02.:47:33.

I think a couple of serve and volley is and the last few service points

:47:34.:47:44.

by Dolgopolov showing that he is well and truly in Plan B here.

:47:45.:48:01.

Just clipped the outside of the line.

:48:02.:48:42.

I hope it is not speaking too soon but it seems to me that he has his

:48:43.:48:46.

opponent on the ropes. The words to easy come to mind.

:48:47.:49:41.

Dolgopolov possibly does not know what to do any more. Or was that too

:49:42.:49:48.

strong? I think that is absolutely right but I do think that most of

:49:49.:49:54.

that is down to the quality of Evans' play. We were talking about

:49:55.:49:59.

it last night, how good his tennis was, and he has come out today, and

:50:00.:50:04.

in the hour or so that he has been out here, this has been a different

:50:05.:50:09.

level altogether. It has been clinical, a clinical display of how

:50:10.:50:14.

to play on grass. His movement has been perfect, he has been very

:50:15.:50:21.

simple tactically. He has been focused on any time he has had a

:50:22.:50:27.

chance to dictate points, he has done it. He has not put a foot

:50:28.:50:32.

wrong, except for serving for the second set at 5-2 when we had two

:50:33.:50:37.

loose points. And when you are playing as attacking game he is, it

:50:38.:50:41.

is a very fine line between being in control and stepping over that. But

:50:42.:50:45.

he has been absolutely superb so far.

:50:46.:50:59.

Back to taking each game as it comes.

:51:00.:53:08.

That is a fine piece of play. Classic grass court tennis. Well, it

:53:09.:53:17.

used to be. And again such intelligent play. 30-30, such an

:53:18.:53:24.

important point. Asking Dolgopolov, can you provide a pass? And the

:53:25.:53:26.

answer is no. Well played again. The movement of

:53:27.:55:01.

the ball there, he really had to dig one out. That kind of sides then

:55:02.:55:10.

slice here from Dolgopolov. Normally that getting the job done, and

:55:11.:55:14.

winning him points, but Evans has all the answers today. -- sides spin

:55:15.:55:18.

slice. The Ukrainian has stopped a five

:55:19.:57:19.

game run but he will need a deal of determination to get himself out of

:57:20.:57:27.

this. The game point of his last service game, the second serve, 107

:57:28.:57:34.

mph, you cannot execute shots and tactics like that if you do not have

:57:35.:57:37.

an appropriate amount of relaxation in your body. His management of this

:57:38.:57:43.

match has been faultless up till this point.

:57:44.:58:14.

Warding off the sun, not the rain, in contrast of yesterday.

:58:15.:59:37.

Dolgopolov serving to stay in the championship.

:59:38.:01:29.

Combination of flights and the deep forehand, perfectly executed. --

:01:30.:01:47.

slice. The crowd has responded. A little

:01:48.:02:24.

short of two hours and match point. A truly convincing victory by the

:02:25.:02:58.

British player. That is probably the best two hours of his tennis career.

:02:59.:03:04.

SUE BARKER: he will certainly have been enjoying his moment on Court

:03:05.:03:08.

Number Two. Wonderful performance from down. What he did in the US

:03:09.:03:13.

Open in 2013. Through to the third round there. He beat Roger a

:03:14.:03:18.

Nishikori. After the match he spoke to us. You made it look pretty

:03:19.:03:26.

simple out there. It was tough coming out yesterday. Stopping and

:03:27.:03:30.

starting. It was difficult to get my head round coming out this morning

:03:31.:03:37.

just to play the rest of the match. It was a strange one but I got

:03:38.:03:41.

through 3-0. A different start to this match compared to the finish.

:03:42.:03:45.

The first set went to the tie-break but you had to him by the third set.

:03:46.:03:51.

What's changed? I was used to his game a bit more. Yesterday it was

:03:52.:03:56.

wet and so I couldn't use my strength and movement and getting

:03:57.:04:00.

him moving today, more solid underfoot, that helped me a lot. I

:04:01.:04:05.

could come forward and close the net down. It was good. It is the

:04:06.:04:09.

furthest you have got in Wimbledon. You know who you are playing next?

:04:10.:04:17.

Yes. Pretty tough. Roger Federer, for people who do not know. He is

:04:18.:04:21.

probably sick of playing British players in front of that noisy

:04:22.:04:25.

British crowd! The British are normally a good draw! It will be fun

:04:26.:04:32.

and I can't wait to get out and play and it will be Anna Mayes experience

:04:33.:04:36.

and hopefully a good atmosphere. Is it the first time you have played

:04:37.:04:43.

him? How will you compose yourself and still enjoy every second and

:04:44.:04:48.

still play a good game? I have got to prepare as though I have a chance

:04:49.:04:51.

to win the match and that is what I will do. He is obviously one of the

:04:52.:04:56.

best players ever to have played the sport. It is difficult but I have

:04:57.:04:59.

got to put that to the back of my mind and give it a good go. Well

:05:00.:05:06.

done today. Thank you. SUE BARKER: just play the same super tennis

:05:07.:05:10.

today, all he can do against Roger Federer. We look forward to that

:05:11.:05:14.

match in the third round. This is what is happening on Dave four.

:05:15.:05:18.

Grigor Dimitrov has been struggling with form recently but he is serving

:05:19.:05:22.

now at that point against a player who knows his way around the grass

:05:23.:05:27.

court, Simon. Not struggling with one today, Grigor Dimitrov has taken

:05:28.:05:32.

the opening set 6-3. You can follow that match on the red button on

:05:33.:05:37.

Court Number One. And on Centre Court, Kei Nishikori, the fifth

:05:38.:05:40.

seed, serving against Julien Benneteau. That one is available

:05:41.:05:46.

online on the BBC at or on connected elevation. -- BBC or on connected

:05:47.:06:00.

television. And Andreas Seppi is up against me last round. He is tricky

:06:01.:06:14.

on grass, -- Raonic. John McEnroe will be watching that, as his coach.

:06:15.:06:22.

And we have Andy Murray and Johanna Konta, the British number one,

:06:23.:06:25.

coming up. She did well against Monica Puig at Eastbourne and he has

:06:26.:06:30.

another finalist today, Eugenie Bouchard. A tough seed for her,

:06:31.:06:33.

seeded at Wimbledon for the first time. Another results to bring you,

:06:34.:06:42.

former finalist and runner-up three ago, Sabine Lisicki. She has

:06:43.:06:47.

defeated Samantha Stosur, the 14th seed. No great surprise, but a seed

:06:48.:06:53.

going out. Sabine Lisicki loves grass court and Samantha has never

:06:54.:07:01.

really embraced them. 6-4, 6-2. This match was held over from yesterday.

:07:02.:07:06.

John Isner serving out against Marcos Baghdatis, winning the first

:07:07.:07:10.

two sets in tie-breaks, no great surprise from big John. He won the

:07:11.:07:16.

third set 6-3, so John goes into the next round to play Matthew Barton.

:07:17.:07:20.

When they played yesterday in the rain, there was a lot of dispute and

:07:21.:07:25.

discussion about whether they should play on or not. John Isner and

:07:26.:07:29.

Marcos Baghdatis did not want to go on but they were asked to carry on

:07:30.:07:34.

playing and no doubt they were asked about that in the press conference.

:07:35.:07:40.

What did they have to say? It felt dangerous. When you slip earlier on

:07:41.:07:43.

in the match, it gets into your head a bit and then you are timid moving.

:07:44.:07:51.

It is tough for me, moving on this surface, given the way the balls

:07:52.:07:56.

bouncing and whatnot. But yesterday it was very slippery and I think

:07:57.:07:59.

Marcos fell a bunch of times as well. It was tough to make

:08:00.:08:04.

aggressive moves on the grass yesterday. I think most players that

:08:05.:08:12.

were playing during the couple hour period that we were playing, we were

:08:13.:08:20.

pretty much agreed we felt like we were on ice skates and everyone was

:08:21.:08:24.

pretty tentative. Of course he is a very tall man as well, so movement

:08:25.:08:29.

is really key to his game. I think we will be hearing more about that

:08:30.:08:33.

because a lot of the players were not happy about being asked to play

:08:34.:08:37.

on. John is the first to speak up. With more showers forecast over the

:08:38.:08:42.

next few days, that could be a theme, players being asked to play

:08:43.:08:45.

on when they are not happy to and the risk of injury. One more results

:08:46.:08:50.

to bring you before we go to some tennis, and that is Madison Keys,

:08:51.:08:54.

number nine seed and quarterfinalist last year. She was taken a distance

:08:55.:08:59.

today against the very talented Belgian Kirsten Flipkens but he came

:09:00.:09:06.

through 6-4, 4-6, 6-3. -- she came through. She is into the next round

:09:07.:09:10.

and Madison Keys has broken into the top ten for the first time. She is

:09:11.:09:14.

the big American hope at The Championships along with the

:09:15.:09:20.

Williams sisters of course. Talking of the sisters, Venus is out on

:09:21.:09:23.

court 18 and what a difference this is. She has won 49 career titles,

:09:24.:09:30.

five at Wimbledon. This is the 71st Grand Slam event and she is up

:09:31.:09:34.

against a player who is a qualifier, playing in only her third Grand Slam

:09:35.:09:39.

event, ranked 115 and making her Wimbledon debut. It couldn't be more

:09:40.:09:43.

different. Maria Sakkari against Venus Williams. We join it with

:09:44.:09:50.

Venus 6-5 up, but I think she had a break earlier. Tracy Austin and

:09:51.:09:58.

Chris will bring us up to date. Yes, and how exciting it is for this

:09:59.:10:01.

qualifier, the number one from Greece, 115 in the world, her debut

:10:02.:10:05.

at Wimbledon. Just a third Grand Slam main draw. She got her first

:10:06.:10:12.

ever win on the grass in Wimbledon on Monday in straight sets to

:10:13.:10:17.

continue this fantastic run. And she has really made it feel like this is

:10:18.:10:21.

nowhere near the biggest match of her life. There have been plenty of

:10:22.:10:24.

chances for breaks of serve and she has had break in everyone but one of

:10:25.:10:29.

Williams's service game. She held comfortably the first time around to

:10:30.:10:32.

stay in the opening set. Here is the second.

:10:33.:10:39.

She has just thought this out so well so far.

:10:40.:10:51.

TRACY AUSTIN: Venus was looking so spot on and she is so poised, Maria,

:10:52.:11:05.

for somebody in this situation. She has served better as the match has

:11:06.:11:06.

gone on. Well done. She has thought of coach

:11:07.:11:18.

herself because initially second was getting hammered. She had to adjust.

:11:19.:11:27.

The first couple of games, she was a bit overwhelmed, nervous, and she

:11:28.:11:32.

didn't look it but her arm was tight. Velocity on his serve and she

:11:33.:11:42.

is looking self-assured. -- her serve.

:11:43.:12:00.

She probably didn't need sat nav to get to court 18, Venus, but this is

:12:01.:12:10.

her 19th Wimbledon, and she is not normally away from Centre Court or

:12:11.:12:13.

Court Number One. That helps the Greek, we feel. Just starting to

:12:14.:12:26.

spit with rain. A crucial time. The first bad shot choice that we have

:12:27.:12:33.

seen. Wondering if rookie errors would show up at some point.

:12:34.:12:40.

Long. Set point. The five times former champion.

:12:41.:13:43.

Nicely done. That had to be a very nervous moment for the 20-year-old.

:13:44.:13:52.

Just playing at Wimbledon has got to be overwhelming, never mind looking

:13:53.:13:56.

across the court to the five-time champion. She has got to keep that

:13:57.:13:59.

out of her mind and focus on what she needs to do at this point.

:14:00.:14:29.

First sign of a lack of composure today. Second set point. Getting to

:14:30.:14:36.

her. UMPIRE: Game and first set, Miss

:14:37.:14:52.

Williams. It has taken an hour, a very tight opening set, but Venus

:14:53.:14:53.

Williams comes through. Yes, she moved to Barcelona at 18,

:14:54.:15:08.

Sakkari, to train. She has been there a couple of years and she has

:15:09.:15:15.

a performer player as her coach, Puentes. They produce very good

:15:16.:15:22.

players in Spain and Venus Williams had a real tussle in that opening

:15:23.:15:28.

set. Experience won in the end. Just a little crack from Sakkari serving

:15:29.:15:32.

to stay in that set in the 12th game. That was really the first sign

:15:33.:15:37.

of nerves that we saw. A little overwhelmed with power beginning the

:15:38.:15:38.

set. Williams going to the next 24 times,

:15:39.:15:49.

that is cumulative pressure. Trying to come up with a passing shot or

:15:50.:15:57.

lob with precision. Six double faults is quite surprising from

:15:58.:16:03.

Venus compared to two aces. She has struggled with the first serve ball

:16:04.:16:08.

toss, as she did on Monday. She has caught it a third of the time, it

:16:09.:16:25.

feels like. So experienced. Battling her syndrome, fatigue being one of

:16:26.:16:30.

the worst elements of that. An example of what you can achieve if

:16:31.:16:34.

you change your lifestyle to deal with the condition. She is one of

:16:35.:16:38.

the eldest here, Venus Williams, but the appetite is so strong. The

:16:39.:16:43.

passion to play and challenge yourself. 36 now but at 35 she broke

:16:44.:16:52.

back into the top ten last year. Perhaps as impressive as the seven

:16:53.:16:56.

Grand Slam titles. Five here and two at the US Open. Williams to begin

:16:57.:17:02.

the second set. The chair umpire is from Serbia. She

:17:03.:17:39.

gave Venus Williams a time violation in the first set for changing her

:17:40.:17:46.

racket. Venus then served a double fault with the very next point. I

:17:47.:17:51.

imagine the look that the chair umpire got, she has probably not

:17:52.:17:58.

warmed up since! Venus had not broken her string that she wanted to

:17:59.:18:06.

change the racket. She even jogged to the chair to go and get the

:18:07.:18:12.

racket. Venus looking very surprised that she got the time warning. If

:18:13.:18:18.

she gets one for it again, she loses her first serve. She loses the right

:18:19.:18:26.

to hit it. Well done. She has grown into this

:18:27.:18:45.

match. She has a mainly played on the ITFs but she looks like she has

:18:46.:18:49.

played at this level for a while. Much more comfortable than you would

:18:50.:18:50.

think. Sakkari has qualified four times,

:18:51.:19:21.

and she has played in the ITF and she has got to the finals of a

:19:22.:19:26.

couple. Her best result was the quarterfinals at Istanbul.

:19:27.:19:38.

The good news is when you really start to dig deep in her results.

:19:39.:19:47.

She has pushed some top players. Navarro to three sets at the

:19:48.:19:53.

Australian. All but one of Williams's service games she has had

:19:54.:19:59.

break points. What she has got to expect is the pattern of a great

:20:00.:20:04.

champion. Every time bar one, Venus has raised her game.

:20:05.:20:22.

Both of those break points with tactically placed serves. Slices out

:20:23.:20:26.

wide to the forehand. Interesting to see how each player

:20:27.:21:04.

will be affected by that first set. Venus played much better with that

:21:05.:21:07.

positive scoreline. Perfect rebound for the youngster.

:21:08.:21:32.

Breaks Williams again. Will it be Sakkari who now feels so much more

:21:33.:21:34.

comfortable having that set under her belt against the top ten player?

:21:35.:21:42.

She is looking much more comfortable at the beginning of this second set,

:21:43.:21:45.

filled with more belief than she was at the beginning of the first. The

:21:46.:21:50.

way we have seen her think in that opening set, and she comes from

:21:51.:21:54.

Greece and they have a good history of thinkers and philosophers. Yes,

:21:55.:22:04.

Aristotle. They figure things out. They do. Doesn't look like she is

:22:05.:22:06.

going anywhere in this match but up. And look at that reaction. That is

:22:07.:22:33.

what you mentioned earlier. The second serve, first couple of

:22:34.:22:38.

service games, Venus all over it. But the reaction said, I have got to

:22:39.:22:42.

change that up. That is exactly what she said. I have got to go for it

:22:43.:22:44.

more. How calculated was that? I was not

:22:45.:23:12.

so sure when she invited Venus into the net but it ended up working just

:23:13.:23:16.

fine because the passing shot was so powerful.

:23:17.:23:43.

Sakkari has got to be careful that you doesn't lose length on her

:23:44.:23:51.

ground strokes and play more passively. Anything hanging and

:23:52.:24:00.

Venus. It to the corners. -- Venus will strike it to the corners. Two

:24:01.:24:14.

more break points for Williams. Three from five converted so far.

:24:15.:24:21.

Just the fact that Venus has had to save 11 is a surprise.

:24:22.:24:43.

The top of that left leg was strapped in the match on Monday and

:24:44.:24:49.

she looked like she couldn't put her full weight on that backhand just

:24:50.:24:50.

then. A couple of interesting situations

:24:51.:25:44.

in that point. The high lob that Sakkari didn't take out of the air

:25:45.:25:47.

was a real missed opportunity and you don't get a second opportunity

:25:48.:25:49.

in a point against Venus. That is what you do with a high,

:25:50.:26:25.

floating lob. She has only missed one of those dry valleys. It cost

:26:26.:26:30.

her her serve in the first set but other than that they have been rock

:26:31.:26:36.

solid. Such great technique. Both arms up for balance. Even with her

:26:37.:26:37.

shoulder. Another break point. Sakkari continues to use that

:26:38.:27:13.

interesting positioning on her serve. It is like a doubles

:27:14.:27:17.

positioning to get a good angle outright. She can also do a tea

:27:18.:27:21.

served and a body serve. -- T serve. She half stopped. She looks at the

:27:22.:27:48.

umpire. Probably the first time she has had Hawk-Eye and I think she has

:27:49.:27:56.

forgotten. She can use it. I think both times she would have been

:27:57.:28:04.

wrong. She is hoping. Three points ago and then that point, the shot

:28:05.:28:07.

from Williams was on the line. So good. And she planned it. That

:28:08.:28:25.

was superb timing. Taking a ball hard from across the court and

:28:26.:28:28.

redirecting it up the line with accuracy. And people's faces. They

:28:29.:28:33.

have been smiling for a while. Look at this young 20-year-old.

:28:34.:28:38.

UMPIRE: Let, second serve. UMPIRE: Let, first serve.

:28:39.:28:48.

Never paid Venus Williams before. First time at Wimbledon. She has

:28:49.:29:00.

belied all of that. That's good look in. Do you think she will be

:29:01.:29:04.

successful this time? You are not sure! I don't trust my eyes. There

:29:05.:29:13.

is a magnet to that line in this game.

:29:14.:29:32.

Made it! Williams breaks straight back.

:29:33.:29:46.

Packed at the start from any vantage point, it magnificent, historic

:29:47.:29:54.

court, number 18. Look how many want to get a view of this, getting up

:29:55.:30:00.

close to Venus. Very intimate court for the crowd. It feels cosy for the

:30:01.:30:02.

players as well. Incredible point construction. Deep

:30:03.:31:02.

and hard, and then slices over the net, drawing Venus forward.

:31:03.:31:09.

Very early on, it is a first meeting. She did struggle a little

:31:10.:31:30.

bit with the pace and bounce of Venus's serve but not since. Maybe a

:31:31.:31:34.

few extra nerves but she is dialled in now. I expect her to move up very

:31:35.:31:39.

quickly. Anguish from Williams. And the Greek

:31:40.:32:16.

just said vamos. Two more break points.

:32:17.:32:22.

Again the raising of the level. Not an ace but another unreturnable, at

:32:23.:32:33.

a critical moment. This is no break point number 16. Second serve to

:32:34.:32:44.

look out for once. SUE BARKER: What a fascinating match

:32:45.:33:13.

out on Court 18. We will be right back with it. Plenty happening on

:33:14.:33:19.

this busy day at Wimbledon. On Court Number One, Gregor Dimitrov has

:33:20.:33:22.

taken the first set from the 16th seed, Gilles Simon. 3-3 at the

:33:23.:33:29.

second, live on BBC One. On Centre Court, die Nishikori, -- Kai

:33:30.:33:36.

Nishikori, on against Julien Benneteau. That matches on the red

:33:37.:33:44.

button if you want to follow it. And they are up to 15 courts, which you

:33:45.:33:54.

can follow on the app and connected TVs. And this is one of them, Milos

:33:55.:34:02.

Raonic against Andreas Seppi. And on Court 16, is this a big surprise?

:34:03.:34:07.

One of the seeds, possibly going out. David Ferrer, two sets to love

:34:08.:34:16.

down against Nicolas Mahut, who has a wonderful grass court pedigree.

:34:17.:34:19.

But he has only reached the third round ones since 2006. He could be

:34:20.:34:27.

going this time. This is Andy Murray's part of the draw. Nicolas

:34:28.:34:31.

Mahut in charge on Court 16. And back we go.

:34:32.:34:39.

Four breaks of serve in a row. Sakkari back for the break.

:34:40.:35:01.

It is an hour and 20 minutes now. I'm sure her coach has told her that

:35:02.:35:13.

Venus has major issues with fatigue. Newly two hours on Monday. Just

:35:14.:35:18.

reading up about it, from one day to the next you do not know how you

:35:19.:35:21.

were going to wake up, how fatigued you are going to feel. That looked a

:35:22.:35:30.

little tired, footwork getting into position.

:35:31.:35:36.

A different seat for her mum, on the back row. What a wonderful seat it

:35:37.:35:44.

was, front row of the Royal box, watching Serena. Well deserved.

:35:45.:36:06.

Fabulous. She never looks nervous. She is either controlling it very

:36:07.:36:13.

well or she is phenomenal as a tennis mum.

:36:14.:36:21.

UMPIRE: Let, first service. I love the variation she is putting into

:36:22.:36:28.

her server. A kicker on the first. Thoughtful.

:36:29.:36:43.

And look at Venus's results this year. She won in Taiwan, but the

:36:44.:36:51.

highest ranked opponent she met there was number 61 in the world.

:36:52.:37:02.

Extending the lead, the first holds for the last five games. A little

:37:03.:37:17.

off the pace from last year, 2015. Remember, that is the year that

:37:18.:37:21.

Venus broke back into the top ten with terrific results. Quarters in

:37:22.:37:26.

Australia and the US Open, and the fourth round at Wimbledon. A lot

:37:27.:37:31.

more consistent. That is what she was looking for in the first couple

:37:32.:37:40.

of years after she let us know that she had been diagnosed with

:37:41.:37:46.

Sjogren's syndrome. I think every match she plays is a bonus. She

:37:47.:37:55.

still loves it and we love that she is still playing. A legend in our

:37:56.:37:57.

game. She has just gone off the boil. I

:37:58.:38:32.

continue to be impressed by Sakkari, just her attitude. Three qualifying

:38:33.:38:38.

matches to get into Wimbledon. She is in trouble here, Venus.

:38:39.:38:56.

Physically and mentally. She needed better footwork there. The

:38:57.:39:05.

expression never changes on Venus's mother's face. And that could be the

:39:06.:39:19.

route we see a lot more now. If you are Sakkari, you have to recognise

:39:20.:39:22.

what is happening on the other side of the court.

:39:23.:39:39.

What a backhand. A sharp angle. She is going backwards in that position,

:39:40.:39:56.

and still with plenty of pace. More break points.

:39:57.:40:15.

This impressive performance just continues.

:40:16.:40:26.

It is so impressive. A heady seat for Venus here. It is becoming more

:40:27.:40:39.

and more important now that she has grown into this match, Sakkari,

:40:40.:40:44.

taking on Venus on Court 18, such a different feel to Centre Court, with

:40:45.:40:48.

all the history. The court feels so at home for Venus. And it would be

:40:49.:40:56.

so foreign to Sakkari. Sakkari was 12 when Venus first won here. As a

:40:57.:41:02.

tennis prodigy in Greece, someone that was so passionate, wanted to

:41:03.:41:05.

play on the tour, watching the final. If you play on Centre Court,

:41:06.:41:13.

it is not only the court that is intimidating, but it is pre-match,

:41:14.:41:18.

when you walk on from the locker room, and you see the beautiful

:41:19.:41:22.

trophies, all the champions, and the elegance. The elegance of the room

:41:23.:41:33.

before you walk out is overwhelming. This is much more comfortable. Cosy.

:41:34.:41:42.

A double break cushion in the second set. Coming up to an hour and a

:41:43.:41:47.

half. Just a few spots of rain. Venus might want it to rain at this

:41:48.:42:01.

point. For a change in momentum. It is barely drizzle, but there is a

:42:02.:42:47.

bit around. She will need to keep our eye on that one. Sakkari, ten

:42:48.:42:57.

for 12 at the net. She comes in at the right moment, making the most of

:42:58.:43:04.

it. Shall we put it down? I don't think it is raining any more.

:43:05.:43:14.

Can Venus elevate her game here? And can Sakkari sustain this level?

:43:15.:43:44.

Sakkari needs to not think too much now. Stay in the moment.

:43:45.:43:55.

11th break point for Williams. She has broken four times.

:43:56.:44:19.

It isn't. -- it is in. UMPIRE: Miss Williams is challenging the ball on

:44:20.:44:30.

the right baseline. It took Venus are second to decide. A crucial

:44:31.:44:37.

point and it is worth the challenge. She breaks back. Three challenges.

:44:38.:44:57.

That was such a vital point. The importance of the double break. For

:44:58.:45:04.

Sakkari, the rookie... That is a good try. She had a lull,

:45:05.:45:35.

Venus, but she is getting it back together and pretty quickly.

:45:36.:45:50.

That is a great server. Only 95 miles an hour.

:45:51.:46:18.

So crucial for Venus to get back into the set and close it out in

:46:19.:46:32.

two. There has been a lull, mentally and physically. Williams gets close

:46:33.:46:47.

on the scoreboard. And it is interesting

:46:48.:46:47.

with Venus, the results that you mentioned this year, yes, she has

:46:48.:46:56.

won title, but in the first round of the Australian Open she lost to join

:46:57.:47:02.

a contact and I have seen her walk off the court with a beaming smile

:47:03.:47:09.

after losing, and that shows you that every match is a bonus. At 36,

:47:10.:47:14.

she is surprisingly self, that she can still play at this level.

:47:15.:47:22.

-- surprising herself. Also so happy that she was able to get back to

:47:23.:47:27.

this level because she was outside the top 20 for a year and a half or

:47:28.:47:32.

two. She was able to get back into the top 20, with a title in Dubai

:47:33.:47:38.

and two other finals in Auckland and Montreal. In Montreal, she beat her

:47:39.:47:42.

sister in the semis. And she followed that in 2015, even more

:47:43.:47:57.

impressively. The spotlight firmly back on Sakkari's end. A double

:47:58.:48:02.

break cushion now. It is a lot closer than that at 4-3.

:48:03.:48:33.

Her coach in the middle, in the white shirt on the right.

:48:34.:49:18.

A big moment here for Sakkari. One has a tendency, when you do not have

:49:19.:49:25.

a lot of experience, to want to back off. You have to maintain that

:49:26.:49:39.

aggression. That approach, she just backed off about 15%, an offer for

:49:40.:49:47.

Venus to get in there in time. The margins are so small at this level.

:49:48.:50:18.

Venus could have done more with that backhand volley.

:50:19.:50:27.

Especially because Sakkari is so speedy.

:50:28.:50:40.

A comment from the crowd put a smile on her face. And then that. I had on

:50:41.:50:53.

the ace count. Who would have thought that? -- ahead on the ace

:50:54.:50:58.

count. Not a bad idea, it looked like it

:50:59.:51:41.

would make Venus moves at the furthest distance but she could not

:51:42.:51:42.

execute. Such a pressure filled game. Venus

:51:43.:51:54.

has done this a million times. It is routine for her.

:51:55.:52:08.

Great length. Very close. Just caught the line.

:52:09.:52:54.

It clear thought process. The kicker out wide to open up the court. Very

:52:55.:53:20.

important. An impressive holes. -- impressive holes. And Venus has to

:53:21.:53:28.

hold serve to stay in the second set.

:53:29.:53:40.

She has to use your legs and be explosive up and out. -- have to use

:53:41.:53:46.

her legs. It is notable, now that you have

:53:47.:54:03.

pointed it out. I wonder if Sakkari has noticed it. At this point, she

:54:04.:54:06.

does not want to give away cheap points like that.

:54:07.:54:24.

She has done that so well in this match and that was a mighty touch.

:54:25.:54:33.

This was so deep in the court. Look at the extension.

:54:34.:54:50.

Is that just general fatigue, is her leg saw? Or is it a mixture? -- is

:54:51.:55:00.

her leg sore. She's just not pushing up. Venus is

:55:01.:55:13.

saying, move. She has to keep her feet alert. An hour and 41 minutes

:55:14.:55:26.

now. In normal circumstances you would say, this is a second round,

:55:27.:55:30.

so what. It is Venus Williams and everything that she is carrying. You

:55:31.:55:37.

cannot get a better wide serve than that. Sakkari was in the park! That

:55:38.:55:43.

is called a wide serve. Sakkari is going to have to serve

:55:44.:56:20.

out the second set. It is a big question. Your thoughts?

:56:21.:56:40.

What must Sakkari think? Well, she struggled at the end of the first

:56:41.:56:43.

set to hold her nerve and that is where we saw the first cracks in her

:56:44.:56:49.

armour. A few unforced errors and we stop that she had a little break in

:56:50.:56:54.

her demeanour as well, chastising herself. Let's see if she can learn

:56:55.:57:04.

quickly on the fly. Let's see if she can do it, to learn to be a lot more

:57:05.:57:12.

consistent. Did you ever try reverse psychology, thinking, I am 5-4 down,

:57:13.:57:16.

I have to serve to stay in the set. It is much tougher when you are in

:57:17.:57:22.

front. I never did. I don't think I was making about the score as much

:57:23.:57:26.

as what I needed to do, just the next point, which was the only thing

:57:27.:57:31.

I could control. Coming back from injury I was thinking about a lot

:57:32.:57:34.

more of those things, too many of those things. Somehow as a

:57:35.:57:39.

youngster, early in my career, I was just able to think about the next

:57:40.:57:44.

moment a lot easier. That is why you were number one at 17. So this is a

:57:45.:57:54.

very big moment for Maria Sakkari. Serving for the second set against a

:57:55.:57:58.

five-time former champion here at Wimbledon. 5-4.

:57:59.:58:18.

Takes a little pressure off to get that first point. The first serve is

:58:19.:58:38.

imperative for her. She has used that served so well, putting

:58:39.:58:49.

pressure on that strapped leg. A clever serve. Clear thinking. She is

:58:50.:59:09.

learning quickly on-the-fly. Three set points. Sluggish movement from

:59:10.:59:12.

Venus. And it is just wide! I think she had

:59:13.:59:34.

two challenges. The referee is saying it is too late.

:59:35.:59:42.

She was not that late. Timely manner is what we say. I have seen

:59:43.:59:49.

challenges been allowed longer after than that. I have, too. And this is

:59:50.:59:55.

the first time that she has ever had challenges available in her career.

:59:56.:59:59.

Or at least something that is very new. And she was doing the fist

:00:00.:00:08.

pump, she thought she had won it. It is on hold. And now she has to put

:00:09.:00:19.

that behind her very quickly. Just her second double fault. Still set

:00:20.:00:23.

point. UMPIRE: Game and second set, Mrs

:00:24.:00:52.

Sakkari. She has done it! She has taken the

:00:53.:01:08.

second set 6-4! SUE BARKER: that takes the prize for shock of the day

:01:09.:01:15.

so far. We will be back in a moment. On Court Number One, up on BBC One,

:01:16.:01:20.

Grigor Dimitrov against Simon. He has taken the first set, Grigor

:01:21.:01:25.

Dimitrov, and he is about to take it to a second set tie-break. It is 6-6

:01:26.:01:30.

in the tie-break and you can see that on BBC One. Some results to

:01:31.:01:38.

bring you. Simona Halep, the fifth seed, semifinalist last year, and

:01:39.:01:43.

reached the final of the French Open the year before, no problems coming

:01:44.:01:47.

through against 36-year-old Francesca Schiavone of Italy. She

:01:48.:01:55.

got just two games, Francesca Schiavone. Disappointment for her.

:01:56.:02:05.

Simona Halep romped through. Another seed to go out the ladies, is born

:02:06.:02:14.

finalist, Karolina Pliskova. She has gone out to her very exciting

:02:15.:02:23.

Japanese opponent Misaki Doi. Used born finalist goes out. -- the used

:02:24.:02:31.

born finalist goes out. And David Goffin is another straight sets win

:02:32.:02:37.

today against Roger-Vasselin of France. 6-4, 6-0, 6-3. The talented

:02:38.:02:42.

Belgian, seeded 11, goes through. Nicolas Mahut is always dangerous on

:02:43.:02:53.

this surface and it has proved so today. He has put at the 13th seed

:02:54.:02:59.

David Ferrer in straight sets 6-1, 6-4, 6-3. And back we go to court 18

:03:00.:03:08.

and the start of the third set. First serve from Williams into the

:03:09.:03:15.

net. Tracy, your thoughts going into the

:03:16.:03:28.

final set? So much of it depends on the energy levels of Venus. They

:03:29.:03:33.

really seemed to deflate in the middle of the second set. Not moving

:03:34.:03:38.

as well. Not pushing up as easily on her serve. She needs that to remain

:03:39.:03:43.

powerful on that shot. That was too good. It takes a number

:03:44.:04:17.

of shots. And on the Venus ground strokes, if she is sluggish with her

:04:18.:04:25.

movement, just half a step slow, Sakkari is penetrating enough to get

:04:26.:04:26.

Venus on the defence. Venus is walking so slowly between

:04:27.:04:57.

points. Speedy during the point. Aggressive with the court

:04:58.:04:59.

positioning, hitting the ball early, also important.

:05:00.:05:09.

Not much on that server. 81 mph first serve.

:05:10.:05:32.

Williams is only one behind on the winning hits and half the unforced

:05:33.:05:38.

errors. Solid start for Williams in this

:05:39.:06:02.

final set. Both taking their time. Nobody has

:06:03.:06:23.

moved from their seats, understandably. Just thinking about

:06:24.:06:29.

the mindset of Sakkari, compared to the beginning of the match when she

:06:30.:06:34.

must have had a lot of doubts. First Wimbledon and against a five-time

:06:35.:06:40.

champion. Does she hit the ball Western Mark can my game match up to

:06:41.:06:45.

it? She has answered a lot of those questions.

:06:46.:07:09.

Again a clever serve. She is way away from that put it in second

:07:10.:07:19.

serve at the beginning of the match. The body serve is so purposeful. And

:07:20.:07:23.

the slice to curve into the body even more.

:07:24.:08:40.

That took a lot from her. Super point.

:08:41.:09:08.

Great return. Venus walking very slowly. She is going to be looking

:09:09.:09:18.

for quick points. Well done! Both women established in

:09:19.:09:37.

this final set. The perfect wrong footing. We

:09:38.:09:58.

continue to see high tennis IQ from Sakkari. Vic Akers she has used

:09:59.:10:02.

extremely well and the wrong foot is always successful on grass to get

:10:03.:10:18.

that traction. -- the kicker she has used well. Last game with these

:10:19.:10:19.

balls. We talked about the resurgent year

:10:20.:10:43.

of 2014. Last year she was back in the top ten.

:10:44.:10:50.

This year has been quite patchy. 57 in the world this year from January

:10:51.:10:55.

the 1st. If I am Sakkari coat, I would point

:10:56.:11:13.

that out to my charge. Venus has had two Venus like results, winning in

:11:14.:11:15.

Taiwan, and the French event. This is just the ninth event for

:11:16.:11:37.

Venus this year. She has pared down her schedule as well. All of the

:11:38.:11:47.

ITFs that Sakkari has played, she has won 34 matches compared to 13

:11:48.:11:51.

for Venus. I know they are at a different level but they are wins,

:11:52.:11:53.

habit. Venus has really slowed down the

:11:54.:12:24.

pace of this match. Taking just about all of the 20 seconds between

:12:25.:12:28.

each point. Sakkari would like to play everything much quicker. She

:12:29.:12:35.

does everything quick. It brings back the question about the

:12:36.:12:38.

courtside clock. She has been given time violation for changing the

:12:39.:12:43.

racket but she has no idea what 20 seconds it's. Nobody has.

:12:44.:12:59.

Seeing the power and domination of Williams, is that when Sakkari has

:13:00.:13:05.

been given a chance to play, boy, has she? Looking a little tired on

:13:06.:13:10.

the last point. Just looking at the 3-set matches

:13:11.:13:53.

that Venus has played this year, she has played five and just won one.

:13:54.:14:01.

You wonder with this Sjogren's syndrome and just turning 36, if

:14:02.:14:09.

that is starting to catch up. She has been beaten but not by huge

:14:10.:14:24.

names. We have got to couch that with tremendous respect and credit

:14:25.:14:32.

for Venus for even playing at this level and dealing with Sjogren's

:14:33.:14:38.

syndrome, which saps your energy. Absolutely. She needs plenty more

:14:39.:14:43.

winners and less unforced errors to get the win. Look at the thought

:14:44.:14:48.

process here. There is so much for her to think about now, other than

:14:49.:14:52.

the simple task of winning a tennis match. Policing her entire life.

:14:53.:14:56.

Everything she eats, the humidity, the diet has got to change to deal

:14:57.:14:58.

with the problem. Needs more sleep. Elbow room only. The top of the

:14:59.:15:19.

broadcast centre as well. Is this going to be a major upset? Everybody

:15:20.:15:24.

wants to be there to see it if it is. Or will the great champion come

:15:25.:15:27.

through? This is why we love sports. It is

:15:28.:16:09.

like the Marcus Willis story. Sakkari, first Wimbledon, moves from

:16:10.:16:12.

Greece to Spain, trying to get better at her craft.

:16:13.:16:22.

Venus was already playing the US Open when Sakkari was born. People

:16:23.:16:33.

dream of success. The Williams sisters stayed wide awake to achieve

:16:34.:16:37.

it and I think Sakkari is in that vein as well. That serve looked

:16:38.:16:52.

wide. It has been called out. Very much delayed, the lines person put

:16:53.:16:56.

the left arm out to indicate it was wide. Made no call. Such a clever

:16:57.:17:07.

serve. Even though Venus knows it is coming, she struggles to deal with

:17:08.:17:16.

it. It is a love hold. A great serve, but the downside to the

:17:17.:17:19.

return is how long it was from Venus. She was much closer with the

:17:20.:17:29.

returns. Not looking quite as sharp. She is going to have to dig very

:17:30.:17:32.

deep to come through in this third. Venus and Serena didn't invent the

:17:33.:17:59.

drive volley but they have mastered it! How easy did she make that look?

:18:00.:18:15.

Again, short points are the order of the day now. Real urgency from

:18:16.:18:25.

Williams in this game. Burst of energy. Snap the historic win, the

:18:26.:18:36.

champion coming through? Where to point the lens? The camera men and

:18:37.:18:41.

women know the players so well. It is sometimes valuable to talk to

:18:42.:18:42.

them. An eight double. Beautiful timing. That puts pressure

:18:43.:19:23.

on Sakkari to do a little more with her return.

:19:24.:19:49.

So strong. We haven't had a break of serve now for a long time. Plenty of

:19:50.:20:03.

breaks were so much of this match but it is going with serve

:20:04.:20:11.

frequently now. They both have different hurdles to get over. Venus

:20:12.:20:16.

has got the fatigue. The higher it gets, the more she feels tired, but

:20:17.:20:21.

for the youngster, the hurdle of getting a great win. The biggest win

:20:22.:20:30.

of her career. This is all so new to Sakkari. She lost in the second

:20:31.:20:37.

round of the Australian Open. To Carla Suarez Navarro. She has played

:20:38.:20:43.

so few Grand Slams. Her third Grand Slam. She qualified for the US Open

:20:44.:20:49.

last year. She has given players like Suarez-Navarro a 3-set run this

:20:50.:20:52.

year which has helped for this huge task. She has been knocking on the

:20:53.:21:00.

door, but can she go through the door? These are the matches that you

:21:01.:21:06.

dream of as a little kid. Playing against that backboard for hours.

:21:07.:21:13.

Two hours and five minutes they have been hitting.

:21:14.:21:50.

One have to fight the nerves, the other has got to fight fatigue.

:21:51.:22:05.

Sakkari when asked who her idol was said Serena Williams, who she has

:22:06.:22:11.

not met yet. The bad news is that if Venus knows that she might have

:22:12.:22:12.

taken it personally! A fraction late. The first forehand

:22:13.:22:49.

in the point that Sakkari got was kind of short and mid-court. She has

:22:50.:22:53.

got to go bigger. If she doesn't go big, Venus will in the next shot or

:22:54.:22:55.

two. Again, the wrong foot paying

:22:56.:23:12.

dividends. Putting pressure on the left leg.

:23:13.:23:39.

Great returning from Venus. Applying the pressure. 12 break points for

:23:40.:23:49.

Venus. She has broken five times. Sakkari quick first step, terrific

:23:50.:24:14.

racket work. Core positioning critical. Venus on

:24:15.:25:40.

the baseline for the entire point, pushing Sakkari further and further

:25:41.:25:41.

back. Sakkari has got to try to hold her

:25:42.:25:47.

ground. Huge. A smile from mum. She is

:25:48.:26:15.

getting excited. That was a monster backhand. Monster first serve from!

:26:16.:26:32.

. Going kicker. -- monster first serve from Sakkari.

:26:33.:26:48.

It is long. The first break in the final set goes to Williams.

:26:49.:27:09.

Experience coming through. Just elevating ten or 15% when needed.

:27:10.:27:21.

She has that extra gear to go to. I wonder if Sakkari can rebound.

:27:22.:27:44.

31 of 46 at the net, for Venus. I thought it was long gone for anybody

:27:45.:27:54.

in women's tennis to be at the net so frequently.

:27:55.:28:16.

Just every now and then her footwork lets her down. Will this be

:28:17.:28:47.

expensive? Sakkari moves over. Venus has chosen

:28:48.:29:19.

to hit that T serve with slice. Crucial moments. Great length.

:29:20.:29:33.

Deceptive in flight. Really went after those forehands.

:29:34.:30:00.

Demanding to boss this from here on in and doing so. Slowly but surely.

:30:01.:30:10.

You have to feel like this is almost match point. Such a huge deficit in

:30:11.:30:13.

the scoreline for Sakkari. The net cord helping. I think it was

:30:14.:30:54.

going wide. I think you are right. She loses her first serve. She has

:30:55.:31:32.

been warned again. To the letter. As a result, look at this. More

:31:33.:31:56.

pace. She is angry. I don't blame her. I really don't understand what

:31:57.:32:11.

the umpire is doing. I have never seen Venus talk to an umpire. This

:32:12.:32:16.

happens rarely. I am on Venus's side, both times here. Maybe this is

:32:17.:32:21.

what Venus needed. One game away from the third round.

:32:22.:32:53.

The first time she got the time penalty was when there was something

:32:54.:32:57.

wrong with the racket. She hadn't broken a string, but she ran to the

:32:58.:33:03.

chair, got the new racket and got a time violation, over 20 seconds. For

:33:04.:33:09.

that to happen a second time, it is difficult to understand what the

:33:10.:33:14.

umpire is trying to achieve. And it was a deuce point. Sakkari, just

:33:15.:33:30.

taking a time out here, a change of scenery. She has done so well. It is

:33:31.:33:35.

the biggest match of her life. How much does she have left? She has

:33:36.:33:40.

been forced back, as you have been saying, Tracy, she has given up

:33:41.:33:47.

ground. Venus hasn't missed. She has the winner- on for Sarah ratio in

:33:48.:33:55.

her favour. -- unenforced error ratio. She has learned a lot. If she

:33:56.:34:06.

does not win this match, she has checked off a lot of boxes about how

:34:07.:34:11.

her game matches up against the best. Serving to stay in the match.

:34:12.:34:37.

Super. Hugging the baseline. And that is the difference. Sakkari lost

:34:38.:34:53.

that element. She pushed back to far and lost the velocity of her ground

:34:54.:34:57.

strokes as well. Venus had elevated them both.

:34:58.:36:24.

She is serving without question. Credit for that.

:36:25.:37:27.

Sakkari is letting us know that she just pulled up a little on that

:37:28.:38:13.

forehand. It happens when there is tension.

:38:14.:38:26.

What a servant! -- what a serve! She still has the energy. She sets up

:38:27.:38:43.

three match points. UMPIRE: Game, set and match, Miss

:38:44.:39:00.

Williams. Two hours and 24 minutes it took against the 20-year-old. The

:39:01.:39:06.

biggest match of her life. It will be enriching her life, this

:39:07.:39:10.

experience, but Venus Williams, Forte champion. Five times here. She

:39:11.:39:16.

is through. She was pushed today, and somehow she found an extra gear.

:39:17.:39:20.

She was looking tired at the beginning of the third set, but as

:39:21.:39:25.

champions do, they know how to dig deep when they need it most.

:39:26.:39:33.

Prolonged applause, and rightly so. A wonderful match. For both women.

:39:34.:39:41.

We will be seeing plenty more of Maria Sakkari from Greece.

:39:42.:39:52.

SUE BARKER: Venus Williams, what a match player. She has proved it year

:39:53.:39:59.

after year, and she is through to the next round. We're taking you to

:40:00.:40:08.

Court One. Gilles Simon is two sets down against Grigor Dimitrov.

:40:09.:40:20.

UMPIRE: Mr Simon is challenging the call. It looked like Gilles Simon

:40:21.:40:32.

was in big trouble here. But he has got a bit busier in this third set

:40:33.:40:34.

and he is on the brink. There have still been patches of

:40:35.:40:54.

brilliance like that from Grigor Dimitrov. He has used the unorthodox

:40:55.:40:59.

crop shot today. -- drop shot. Every chance that Gilles Simon might

:41:00.:41:16.

need that 2-page insurance document. He does have a double break, two

:41:17.:41:45.

more points to save here. Not any more.

:41:46.:41:59.

If we are looking for clues as to why Grigor Dimitrov has suffered the

:42:00.:42:06.

slump that has taken him out of the top ten, it is encapsulated in this

:42:07.:42:10.

contest, because the consistency has veered wildly. Absolutely.

:42:11.:42:22.

He was a consistent player in the first two sets, serving a high

:42:23.:42:30.

centage, patient from the baseline and aggressive when he got the

:42:31.:42:33.

opportunity. That has gone out the window in the third set. It has been

:42:34.:42:38.

erratic - unforced errors, poor shot selection.

:42:39.:42:49.

This third set has been about expecting the unexpected.

:42:50.:43:01.

The ball died on both players. I don't know if it was that or they

:43:02.:43:12.

were in the wrong position to begin with. It is a moot point. Three game

:43:13.:43:15.

points. The Bulgarian is still in there

:43:16.:43:38.

swinging. He is a former Queen's champion. He was brilliant in 2014,

:43:39.:43:43.

a few weeks before he made his way to the last four here. We have been

:43:44.:43:48.

talking about the win against Andy Murray, catapulting himself into the

:43:49.:43:52.

wild's top ten. And it looked as though he was catapulting himself

:43:53.:44:00.

then, but it has not worked out that way. ATP, -- ATP's marketing people

:44:01.:44:21.

are calling the newer players the next-geners. He is one of them. It

:44:22.:44:31.

is one of the beauties of sport that nothing is for certain. You can

:44:32.:44:39.

certainly testify to that right now. He has given himself a chance of

:44:40.:44:44.

extending this third set. However, it is the Frenchman, Gilles Simon,

:44:45.:44:50.

who has the opportunity to serve for it.

:44:51.:45:09.

UMPIRE: Mr Dimitrov is challenging the call. Hawkeye will tell us. The

:45:10.:46:00.

ball was in. He slipped and he still got away a

:46:01.:46:24.

sizzler. He hopefully hasn't hurt himself. He almost overextended,

:46:25.:46:38.

hyper extended the left knee. You can do that a little easier on a

:46:39.:46:40.

clay court. Two set points for a Gilles Simon.

:46:41.:47:23.

-- for Gilles Simon. And the 16th seed, much to the

:47:24.:47:52.

delight of his coach, makes sure that there is much more life in this

:47:53.:48:02.

contest. Dimitrov still leading 2-1. ARCO mac so, Simon, right back in

:48:03.:48:06.

it. We can update you with what is happening elsewhere. On Centre

:48:07.:48:12.

Court, Kei Nishikori is in charge, 5-2, against Julien Benneteau in the

:48:13.:48:17.

third set. The number five seed very much in control of that match on

:48:18.:48:23.

Centre Court. That is on BBC One. Milos Raonic, the number six seed,

:48:24.:48:29.

is safely through, coming through against the tricky Italian Andreas

:48:30.:48:42.

Seppi. 7-4, 6-4, 6-2. His coach John McEnroe will know plenty about that.

:48:43.:48:50.

But huge disappointment this morning for Britain's Heather Watson. She

:48:51.:48:53.

fought hard and had match points against Annika Beck. In the end,

:48:54.:48:57.

these long, testing rallies that went right through the match finally

:48:58.:49:02.

took their toll, and she lost 12-10 in the third and final set. This

:49:03.:49:07.

match was held over after rain yesterday, but ended in

:49:08.:49:09.

disappointment for Heather Watson, who did so well last year, coming

:49:10.:49:15.

within two points of beating Serena Williams. Heather Watson has been

:49:16.:49:22.

quite vocal in the past about Twitter trowels, and she spoke about

:49:23.:49:28.

it and got quite emotional in the press conference after the match

:49:29.:49:33.

today. You have had recent trouble with trolling and nasty stuff on

:49:34.:49:38.

Twitter. Do you think that today's result will lead to more of that?

:49:39.:49:43.

Absolutely. It is funny you say that, because I was just in the

:49:44.:49:49.

changing room talking about it. After a loss like this I am so angry

:49:50.:49:53.

with myself that I feel I need to punish myself. I don't know... It

:49:54.:50:02.

wasn't a good day. I just went on Twitter, and there was plenty. Did

:50:03.:50:09.

it, in some perverse way, cheer you up? Definitely not. Why would that

:50:10.:50:14.

cheer me up, people saying nasty things? But you deliberately looked

:50:15.:50:22.

it up. Yes, because I was in a bad mood. When you are in a bad mood and

:50:23.:50:26.

you bang your racket, it is because it is a bad thing. SUE BARKER: A bad

:50:27.:50:33.

day all round for Britain's Heather Watson. That is the news from

:50:34.:50:36.

elsewhere, but we are heading back to Court Number One. 2-1 dinner

:50:37.:50:43.

trough leads, and he opens in the fourth set. -- Dimitrov.

:50:44.:50:54.

Can he change the momentum here? It certainly seemed to be French aid

:50:55.:50:58.

while ago. -- a certainly, after a pretty erratic

:50:59.:51:26.

set, lost 6-4, he will be looking to reclaim his composure, Dimitrov.

:51:27.:51:30.

Regain his composure in the fourth set.

:51:31.:51:50.

A grimace on the face of the Frenchman. He knew that wasn't

:51:51.:52:00.

far-away. He has a face that tells lots of stories. A couple of hours

:52:01.:52:05.

reading it. That one, not quite so close. There

:52:06.:52:44.

was a fantastic moment in his press conference after the opening round

:52:45.:52:47.

match, where he assured everyone listening that he feared nobody. As

:52:48.:52:53.

he was saying that, Novak Djokovic walked in, who was next up on the

:52:54.:53:01.

podium. And he said, I don't fear anybody -- you don't fear anybody?

:53:02.:53:06.

And he answered, no. He is certainly trying to exude confidence. He has

:53:07.:53:16.

put himself in a winning position here. Gilles Simon has fight it his

:53:17.:53:22.

way back into the contest, however. -- has fought his way back into the

:53:23.:53:24.

contest. He has hit some good shots. It was a

:53:25.:54:13.

good, early move. Not the cleanest it, but certainly 100% commitment.

:54:14.:54:18.

-- not the cleanest strike. Remember the days when the average

:54:19.:54:52.

length of a grass court rally was about three shots? I think it was

:54:53.:55:00.

shorter than that, wasn't it? Simon has only hit 16 winners in the whole

:55:01.:55:05.

match. Some of those has been passing shot, so when the meter gets

:55:06.:55:09.

into a rally, there is no need to panic. -- when Dimitrov. He just

:55:10.:55:22.

needs to wait for the opportunity to go for an aggressive shot.

:55:23.:55:56.

It isn't as if she'll see mum, good a player as he is, playing with

:55:57.:56:07.

tennis's equivalent of a chainsaw in his right hand. There is not a lot

:56:08.:56:11.

of bite, but what he does is accurate. He will not chop you up

:56:12.:56:15.

the way that Dimitrov will at his best.

:56:16.:56:37.

22 unforced errors for the Bulgarian. Not time for a crisis

:56:38.:56:43.

meeting yet, but it is a concern. They have been playing for the best

:56:44.:57:47.

part of two and a half hours, a contest that spilled into a second

:57:48.:57:50.

day. We had just a few minutes last night before the rain came in the

:57:51.:57:56.

early evening. Grigor Dimitrov that much happier to carry on playing in

:57:57.:58:02.

the rain and Simon was. He goes fishing for a new racket. A little

:58:03.:58:09.

bit of drizzle at the start of this second day as well, but not enough

:58:10.:58:14.

to take them off the court. A couple of minutes of delay while they sat

:58:15.:58:17.

on their seats waiting for the shower to pass. Watery sunshine

:58:18.:58:20.

above Court Number One right now. Is it a little early to start

:58:21.:59:47.

looking at 5- set records? No. Simon has come from two sets down on two

:59:48.:59:56.

occasions. 19-11 in five set matches.

:59:57.:00:13.

The speed gun on server has gone for lunch! -- on serve.

:00:14.:00:29.

We don't need any statistics to enjoy that shot. A great point. Was

:00:30.:00:44.

that the right shots to come in behind? Be right shot to come

:00:45.:00:49.

forward, but it was a poorly executed approach shot. He didn't do

:00:50.:00:50.

enough with it. And again, this time on the

:00:51.:01:03.

backhand, and a break of serve at the start of this fourth set.

:01:04.:01:12.

Likewise, it is the right shot to move forward on. That approach shot

:01:13.:01:19.

probably only landed three feet over the service line and it wasn't

:01:20.:01:23.

particularly close to the sideline. With the way that Simon is able to

:01:24.:01:30.

pass, this is the approach shot from inside the court, foot over the

:01:31.:01:34.

service line and inside the sideline. It was a good shot from

:01:35.:01:42.

Simon but he should not have had the opportunity to take one and a half

:01:43.:01:47.

steps to his left and guide the passing shot down the line. All of

:01:48.:01:54.

sudden, we have got a match that looks like it could go into the

:01:55.:01:59.

fifth set. I think the tide has turned, hasn't it? If you were

:02:00.:02:04.

forced to go one way or the other, I think you are backing the 16th seed

:02:05.:02:10.

unless Dimitrov can start to find that consistency that he enjoyed in

:02:11.:02:17.

the second set. Just a little suck on one of those high energy gels.

:02:18.:02:27.

At times like this, you might look up to the coach's box for

:02:28.:02:34.

inspiration but if Dimitrov does that he will not seek his coach

:02:35.:02:42.

because he ditched his on the Monday before Wimbledon so he is flying

:02:43.:02:44.

solo at the moment and in clouds. Now it's time for him to have a

:02:45.:03:07.

change of racket. I don't think he has broken the string, just fancied

:03:08.:03:08.

a change of tension. The break of serve has been

:03:09.:05:51.

consolidated. One of the great things about Gilles Simon, we talked

:05:52.:05:56.

about him not having an awful lot of aces in his hand, no outstanding

:05:57.:06:02.

shots but he is durable, he makes the pips squeak, the absolute most

:06:03.:06:03.

of what he has got. From Simon's point of view, being

:06:04.:06:19.

down two sets and a break up now in the fourth, not much has changed

:06:20.:06:23.

with his game, it has been more about Dimitrov's dominance in those

:06:24.:06:29.

first two sets. And then the third and half of the fourth set, his form

:06:30.:06:34.

has dipped substantially. Simon had to work very hard to get

:06:35.:07:30.

on top of that double handed backhand, it was bouncing almost

:07:31.:07:34.

beyond range but he could reach just high enough.

:07:35.:08:15.

It is a contest that seems to be meandering along in its own sweet

:08:16.:08:24.

way right now, no great highs or lows. It is probably not working in

:08:25.:08:33.

his favour. Those spikes on the craft that we talked about in the

:08:34.:08:37.

first two sets not quite so apparent at the moment. He has to get himself

:08:38.:08:41.

out of the Doldrums somehow and he has do work it out for himself, no

:08:42.:08:43.

little codes from the coaches box. The Frenchman ended his Wimbledon

:08:44.:09:11.

run 12 months ago -- a Frenchman. He was beaten by Richard Gasquet in the

:09:12.:09:16.

third round. He is looking to avoid a similar fate at the hand of a

:09:17.:09:18.

Frenchman this afternoon. That is a significant drop-off. The

:09:19.:09:39.

first serve was where the Bulgarian was earning so much success in the

:09:40.:09:45.

first two sets. The first serve percentage is still good at 69% for

:09:46.:09:52.

Dimitrov but, when they have got into those baseline rallies, the

:09:53.:09:57.

unforced errors have really flown from his racket.

:09:58.:10:10.

APPLAUSE Of the out the extremities of the

:10:11.:10:20.

Frenchman's racket but it counts. Offers a little apology. They say

:10:21.:10:26.

that you pay for your whole racket so you might as well used it -- use

:10:27.:10:29.

it! That was a poor unforced error with

:10:30.:11:06.

Simon four feet behind the baseline. Not entirely sure there is a part of

:11:07.:11:42.

the Simon racket that he has not used over the part of the game. It

:11:43.:11:48.

remains his friend for the time being.

:11:49.:12:27.

A big deep breath from the Bulgarian. I do like the way that

:12:28.:12:37.

Simon engineered the double handed backhand. We have talked about it a

:12:38.:12:42.

lot in this match but the angles that he finds and the contortions he

:12:43.:12:47.

had to get the ball heading in the direction he wants. He moves up the

:12:48.:12:51.

court well when he gets the opportunity if the ball is a bit

:12:52.:12:54.

higher at chest or shoulder height and with a pretty short swing he can

:12:55.:12:58.

generate a lot of power which comes from your core and also your left

:12:59.:13:00.

hand with the two hander. If you were teaching youngsters to

:13:01.:13:28.

play the game now, would you teach them single handed or double handed

:13:29.:13:33.

on the backhand? It pains me to say but I would have to go for a two

:13:34.:13:35.

hander. Gilles Simon almost took the head of

:13:36.:13:58.

an eager ball boy! You don't want to start hitting the ball kids! That is

:13:59.:14:06.

not the route to go down. It can get expensive! And embarrassing!

:14:07.:14:12.

Do you still send a Christmas card? And birthday.

:14:13.:14:26.

It looked an awkward shot from Simon, but it worked out. And the

:14:27.:14:36.

reason for going with the two-handed approach now? I think because the

:14:37.:14:43.

surfaces are slower and more abrasive Andy Bull bounces higher

:14:44.:14:47.

and you can generate more power with the two hander and I think people

:14:48.:14:53.

move better these days -- and the ball bounces higher.

:14:54.:15:14.

But having said that, when you look at a backhand like Stan Wawrinka,

:15:15.:15:25.

that is pretty tough to beat. Gasquet's is not bad either.

:15:26.:15:37.

Credit to Dimitrov, really trying to hang in in this fourth set, he

:15:38.:15:52.

doesn't want to go down two breaks. He has played that shot more than

:15:53.:16:13.

once and enjoyed it. You were very much a single-handed

:16:14.:16:31.

sailor on the backhand and it worked out brilliantly for you. Was that

:16:32.:16:35.

always what you had done growing up? Was it something that was coached or

:16:36.:16:41.

just the most natural way? A combination of all. I think the

:16:42.:16:45.

servers as we grew up playing on work indoor courts the majority of

:16:46.:16:50.

the time, quite a lot faster so you were probably playing with slice a

:16:51.:16:53.

lot of the time and that is a much more natural shot with a one hander.

:16:54.:17:00.

But it is definitely about finding what works for you. In this day and

:17:01.:17:05.

age, to have a one-handed backhand at the highest level, it has to be

:17:06.:17:10.

an exceptional shot. Dimitrov's could improve. We have seen quite a

:17:11.:17:14.

few unopposed errors coming from his racket. But you think of Wawrinka,

:17:15.:17:20.

that is the best I have ever seen. Federer's has improved massively

:17:21.:17:24.

over the years, Gasquet as well, Nicolas Almagro. Dominic Thiem.

:17:25.:17:34.

You wouldn't have missed! A bit late on that one.

:17:35.:17:47.

If the ball boy's head had stayed where it was, it might be ringing

:17:48.:17:51.

right now but he got away with it. Wonderful readjustment from the

:17:52.:18:44.

Frenchman. The quickest of feet to get himself

:18:45.:19:05.

into position to fire away the winner.

:19:06.:19:30.

APPLAUSE And that is the bloke on the other

:19:31.:19:42.

side of the net at his best. It is good, controlled aggression, using

:19:43.:19:46.

the slice and making Simon hit up. He doesn't generate the pace and

:19:47.:19:51.

then he can dictate with a big shot down the line, get the opportunity

:19:52.:19:54.

to move forward and his technique in his volleying has been impressive

:19:55.:19:56.

today. Some great hustle in the middle of

:19:57.:21:11.

the rally from Dimitrov to stay involved. He uses the slice again.

:21:12.:21:17.

Definitely a tactic that Simon doesn't like.

:21:18.:21:33.

Break points have been few and far between for him since the start of

:21:34.:21:39.

the previous set. He squandered that one.

:21:40.:22:08.

The one server that was out at 125 mph, the second was rather tossed

:22:09.:22:19.

back at 82 mph and got the full treatment. 82 in the middle of the

:22:20.:22:21.

box and not a lot on it. Dimitrov looked like he was trying

:22:22.:22:46.

to run through that forehand on his way to the net but there is no point

:22:47.:22:50.

in running to the net if you are going to miss the approach. He

:22:51.:22:52.

needed to set his feet better. It has the sense of a very big

:22:53.:23:36.

moment right now. Not much has gone right for Dimitrov in recent times.

:23:37.:23:38.

Jan de Witt, Simon's coach. APPLAUSE

:23:39.:23:51.

And he has got the break, he has broken back in this fourth set.

:23:52.:24:00.

How significant is that? Just at the point we were thinking of sending

:24:01.:24:08.

him on his way at Wimbledon, we are maybe reassessing our judgment. That

:24:09.:24:16.

game, Dimitrov was patient. He didn't make unforced errors, he

:24:17.:24:20.

stayed in the rally and used the slice but I sometimes wonder if he

:24:21.:24:23.

is actually aware of what he is doing.

:24:24.:24:54.

Having shown the patience, 4-4, fourth set, the points are getting

:24:55.:25:05.

pretty valuable at this stage in a match and then he goes for a cold

:25:06.:25:11.

winner from three feet behind the baseline. It doesn't make a lot of

:25:12.:25:12.

sense. He has done it again and done it

:25:13.:26:16.

brilliantly. It is the disguised that Simon cannot read at the

:26:17.:26:24.

moment. There definitely seems to be a bit of a breeze coming down from

:26:25.:26:28.

Simon's end of the court because you see this drop shot and it has really

:26:29.:26:33.

held up. It just dies when it bounces.

:26:34.:27:50.

Well, well. Now where? Dimitrov is one game away from making the

:27:51.:28:09.

third-round of Wimbledon this year and all of the pressure is back on

:28:10.:28:15.

French shoulders all of a sudden. It certainly is and you can build

:28:16.:28:20.

pressure with your game and utilising the skills that Dimitrov

:28:21.:28:24.

has but there is a bit of scoreboard pressure on Simon as well. Down by

:28:25.:28:32.

two sets to one and serving at 4-5. There have certainly been some

:28:33.:28:36.

swings and roundabouts in this match. The relationship he had with

:28:37.:28:40.

Maria Sharapova when they dated for a while created a lot of headlines.

:28:41.:28:44.

In hindsight, among those who know him best, I'm not entirely sure

:28:45.:28:50.

whether it is great for him in terms of his game. He saw exactly what was

:28:51.:28:55.

needed to be the best in the world, exactly how hard Maria Sharapova

:28:56.:28:59.

worked to get to where she was but for some reason he wasn't able to

:29:00.:29:02.

quite translate that into his own game. I think the most important

:29:03.:29:10.

thing for Dimitrov really is to worry about what he is doing and

:29:11.:29:13.

really understand the way that he needs to play. You see performances

:29:14.:29:20.

like this and I think it epitomises why his career has been so erratic.

:29:21.:29:24.

It also epitomises why so many people think he has potential

:29:25.:29:28.

because he can played some great tennis but the highs and lows, the

:29:29.:29:33.

peaks and troughs, they are too extreme. And here we have last

:29:34.:29:41.

summer's quarterfinalist serving to stay in this year's Wimbledon.

:29:42.:29:52.

APPLAUSE And the semifinalist two years ago

:29:53.:30:01.

the edges ahead in what might be the concluding game. And that rally,

:30:02.:30:06.

there doesn't seem to be a lot of risk, he stayed in the point and

:30:07.:30:09.

accelerated on the forehand and it was still a couple of feet over the

:30:10.:30:13.

net. He comes in with great technique and puts away the volley.

:30:14.:30:46.

It has served him well throughout the match. He did a little hop as

:30:47.:30:51.

the ball did what it was told. Second serve at 80 mph, Dimitrov

:30:52.:31:31.

will be disappointed with that return of serve. Another second

:31:32.:31:36.

serve. Not the ideal time for a big gust of

:31:37.:31:47.

wind. It has gone long. Grigor Dimitrov is

:31:48.:32:29.

on the verge of the biggest win of his career since he beat Andy Murray

:32:30.:32:32.

in the quarterfinals here two years ago. He has two match points for a

:32:33.:32:44.

place in the third round. And just when the Frenchman didn't need the

:32:45.:32:46.

year to reappear, they reappear. -- the yips. And it has gone wide!

:32:47.:33:04.

How did he get that serve back? How did Simon miss it? We will need

:33:05.:33:09.

Hawkeye's confirmation. And their writ is. -- and there it is. And how

:33:10.:33:24.

they love it here on number one Court. The meter is through, beating

:33:25.:33:40.

the sixth seed, Gilles Simon. SUE BARKER: What a comeback from Grigor

:33:41.:33:47.

Dimitrov. He is going back to the locker room a winner in four sets.

:33:48.:33:54.

We are going to take you over to Court 18, where Angelique Kerber is

:33:55.:34:01.

1-0 up against Victoria Lepchenko. They are going down well. They are

:34:02.:34:29.

crisps. A good-looking pair. That was mis-hit on the return, and

:34:30.:35:02.

then curb snatched at a clear opening. -- Kerber. She's in trouble

:35:03.:35:15.

for the first time on her serve, 15-40. Just after that statement

:35:16.:35:20.

before the change of ends, you just recognised how few points. There is

:35:21.:35:30.

the head of women's tennis in Germany, in the pink cap. This is a

:35:31.:35:34.

great pick-up. She just slide that one, the racket under the ball, a

:35:35.:35:37.

very low bounce. She has had no success down the line

:35:38.:36:08.

from this end. That's deuce. No, she shouldn't walk home in one straight

:36:09.:36:13.

line tonight, should she? She should walk in a curve. I don't think she

:36:14.:36:20.

could manage. That's great stuff from Kerber. Never fear is a battle,

:36:21.:36:36.

Angelique Kerber. -- she never fears a battle.

:36:37.:36:48.

That's the only service game where she has been threatened and really

:36:49.:36:55.

gritted her teeth. She played some really good strokes after being down

:36:56.:37:02.

Two rather while shots in succession. -- rather wild. She

:37:03.:38:18.

doesn't get down as well as her opponent does in a position like

:38:19.:38:20.

that. Yes, she just had a little extra on

:38:21.:38:55.

it, Kerber. I like her footwork, she stays very low, a good, open stance.

:38:56.:39:00.

She gets her contact very early out in front, which enables her to get

:39:01.:39:02.

forehand crosscourt. The American staying in touch. She

:39:03.:39:41.

couldn't afford to drop that game. You don't often see two left-handers

:39:42.:39:47.

playing against each other, do you, Barry? It's unusual, but they don't

:39:48.:39:51.

like playing against each other. They spend 90% of the time playing

:39:52.:39:56.

against right-handers and constructing point into the

:39:57.:40:00.

right-hander's weaknesses, so there shots become a little less

:40:01.:40:08.

effective. The sliced wide serve goes into the strength of her

:40:09.:40:10.

opponent, so you have to just change the thought process a little, and

:40:11.:40:18.

sometimes it makes them a little more uncomfortable. Kerber, they

:40:19.:40:23.

have played each other seven times, and Kerber is trying hard to

:40:24.:40:27.

equalise the numbers, because Lepchenko won the first four times.

:40:28.:40:32.

Kerber has won the last three times. The last time was in 2014 at

:40:33.:40:39.

Stanford, a tight one, 6-2 in the third to Kerber. That is the longest

:40:40.:40:43.

match they have played against each other, 159 minutes.

:40:44.:40:54.

Talking about German players, Mona Barthel was also a very talented

:40:55.:41:04.

player when she came on the tour. She probably hasn't filled the socks

:41:05.:41:08.

that everyone thought she would. She's a player.

:41:09.:41:19.

The German, on the brink. She has been the dominant player since we

:41:20.:42:32.

started. That's nice. She is being a lot more effective in

:42:33.:42:37.

this second set off the serve. She is finding the corners and moving

:42:38.:42:41.

the ball more, not allowing Kerber to get into easy patterns.

:42:42.:43:19.

Again, just forcing Kerber to reach and be a little more end - range.

:43:20.:43:52.

They will serve for the match with a new set of balls, and that is going

:43:53.:43:59.

to be quite a task for the American here. To come back from that. There

:44:00.:44:06.

is movement of the crowd around the place. The stand, as we look to the

:44:07.:44:14.

right, and then the stalls, as it were, under the glass, and then the

:44:15.:44:21.

upper circle. I didn't have quite the right terminology. The stalls

:44:22.:44:29.

and the upper circle - now I know. Our sport is a theatre, is it not? I

:44:30.:44:36.

like that. Hi sometimes packed with drama, sometimes quite amusing with

:44:37.:44:40.

one or two of the things that we see. Players trying something

:44:41.:44:48.

different and inducing a smile from the crowd or whatever. So, he comes

:44:49.:45:00.

-- here comes the German shoot out. They usually Windows. -- they

:45:01.:45:09.

usually win those. Not if she serves like that.

:45:10.:45:37.

Well done! She hit two lines. She finally got one down the line and

:45:38.:45:46.

she hit the baseline as well. That's the longest rally in the second set.

:45:47.:45:51.

It will feel good for Lepchenko to come out on top.

:45:52.:46:05.

All that effort to throw it away on the next point. So easy a game to

:46:06.:46:14.

play when you are sitting in the commentary box!

:46:15.:46:30.

The coach of Kerber feeling pretty happy with the way his player has

:46:31.:46:36.

performed today so far. Just a little passable there on the

:46:37.:47:01.

first two shots, which allowed Lepchenko to get on top of that

:47:02.:47:06.

rally, then stay on top. Just pushing Kerber further and further

:47:07.:47:07.

out of the court. That's tough on the loser of the

:47:08.:47:30.

point. That brings things to match point.

:47:31.:48:21.

52 minutes, and the number four seed goes through. To tell the truth,

:48:22.:48:30.

there was an air of inevitability about the outcome really from the

:48:31.:48:36.

moment that it took Lepchenko so many games in the first set to

:48:37.:48:39.

really feel that she had arrived. She came looking a little flustered,

:48:40.:48:47.

and it took her a long time to clear her head, by which time her opponent

:48:48.:48:51.

was moving an extra bit out of sight. Absolutely, she was well in

:48:52.:48:55.

charge, wasn't she, Kerber? She looked like she was very

:48:56.:48:59.

comfortable, started well, and that is the difference in the match.

:49:00.:49:02.

Lepchenko was definitely a little out of sorts. SUE BARKER: A very

:49:03.:49:12.

dominant performance from the Australian Open champion and number

:49:13.:49:15.

four seed here cost of Angelique Kerber going through in straight

:49:16.:49:20.

sets. Henman Hill is filling up, everyone watching on the big screen.

:49:21.:49:23.

And the reason is that over on Centre Court Andy Murray is there

:49:24.:49:36.

for his second round match at against Yen-Hsun Lu. We are going

:49:37.:49:46.

over to Court Number One. Here is the new superstar of tennis, having

:49:47.:49:51.

won the French Open. She is very much in demand for press conferences

:49:52.:49:54.

and photo shoot, but she also graces the world of social media.

:49:55.:50:14.

This is my first tournament, and actually I won my first tournament.

:50:15.:50:20.

I am so proud of that. In Venezuela. This was last year here, when I

:50:21.:50:39.

reached the final and lost to Serena.

:50:40.:50:48.

I was so disappointed, as you can see. I have a very expressive face!

:50:49.:51:04.

This one is from Beijing, when I won the trophy. I was so excited.

:51:05.:51:35.

This one is when I realised I won the Grand Slam. I fell down and hurt

:51:36.:51:42.

my knee, and I still have something. It is bleeding here. This was a day

:51:43.:51:52.

in Paris when I finally got to see the sun and I wanted to take a

:51:53.:52:05.

cell-free. -- a selfie. SUE BARKER: And now you can see why she is in

:52:06.:52:17.

such demand. Today, she is up against tough opposition in Jana

:52:18.:52:20.

Cepelova. Our commentators Is already a little bit of pressure

:52:21.:52:36.

on several other's serve here at 30-30. -- at Jana Cepelova's serve.

:52:37.:53:09.

Not a heavy shot from settled over. She is under enormous pressure --

:53:10.:53:19.

from Jana Cepelova. But it won't be the last time you

:53:20.:53:56.

see that particular shot. She does it well on the grass, taking the

:53:57.:54:00.

hand of the racket, and that is a confidence builder for Cepelova. We

:54:01.:54:05.

talked about how comfortable she is on grass, having upset Halep here

:54:06.:54:11.

last year. She's not afraid to come to the net, Cepelova. She will mix

:54:12.:54:16.

in some slices, some drop shots, and it will be about whether she can

:54:17.:54:18.

handle the pace of shot by Muguruza. So far, the signs are pretty good in

:54:19.:54:31.

that opening game from the exchanges they had at the back because. There

:54:32.:54:38.

is a big difference in height - five foot six returning against the

:54:39.:54:39.

server from Spain at six foot. Muguruza has done a great job at

:54:40.:54:57.

developing every part of her game, from big serves, great returns, hits

:54:58.:55:04.

the ball so heavy, and her movement, another area that has improved so

:55:05.:55:06.

much in the last 12 months. She did a nice job against Halep

:55:07.:55:52.

last year, changing the pace on those double handers, not trying to

:55:53.:55:57.

beat these players with fire. That is so clever from her, because you

:55:58.:56:02.

will not beat Muguruza by trying to cut hit her. She likes it when she

:56:03.:56:04.

gets pace coming at her. Clever. She is not going to beat her

:56:05.:56:34.

toe to toe from the back of the court. She is introducing nice

:56:35.:56:41.

touches here, Cepelova, and she is carving out some early break point

:56:42.:56:42.

chances. And there is an early break.

:56:43.:57:27.

Fantastic. Back in. Is a big surprise here, Muguruza not ready to

:57:28.:57:30.

go, hasn't hit the ball that cleanly in these first two games. Cepelova

:57:31.:57:36.

is a player who plays better tennis on bigger stages and is not scared

:57:37.:57:41.

of playing the top players, does not get intimidated. She is off to a

:57:42.:57:42.

great start here. Again, the change of pace, the

:57:43.:58:02.

forehand slice, and she has put Muguruza out of rhythm here early.

:58:03.:58:10.

The coach of Muguruza since last autumn. They started working

:58:11.:58:15.

together right after the US Open. The points won on second serve will

:58:16.:59:07.

be important for Cepelova. She hasn't lost yet, but normally that

:59:08.:59:10.

is something that Muguruza is so good at.

:59:11.:59:35.

Unforced errors of the racket of the Spaniard. Kerber except then

:59:36.:59:48.

gratefully -- accepts them gratefully, 3-0 up. She has had a

:59:49.:59:58.

few days off to recover from that match against Giorgi, but it looks

:59:59.:00:01.

like it might have taken a bit more out of her. She is struggling with

:00:02.:00:08.

the change of conditions on Court One. It has been a surprisingly

:00:09.:00:14.

untidy start. She is causing most of this damage to herself. A lot of

:00:15.:00:19.

unforced errors, doesn't look comfortable on the court yet.

:00:20.:00:23.

Probably a bit of concern in the Muguruza camp. One thing she has

:00:24.:00:30.

struggled with in this early part of her career is figuring out ways to

:00:31.:00:33.

win when she is not playing her best tennis. In Paris, that wasn't the

:00:34.:00:39.

case, she played beautifully after the first set, didn't lose another

:00:40.:00:42.

one on the way to the title, but she has a lot of burly losses for a

:00:43.:00:49.

player ranked two in the world. -- a lot of early losses.

:00:50.:01:27.

Wow. Cepelova is playing well above her rankings. As we highlighted, she

:01:28.:01:39.

was 50 in the world back in 2014 courtesy of wins over Sam Stosur and

:01:40.:01:46.

Serena Williams. She lost to Andrea Petkovic in a final, having gone

:01:47.:01:51.

without a coach or trainer or anybody! She just went on her own!

:01:52.:01:54.

Isn't that refreshing? She says that if she wasn't a tennis

:01:55.:02:07.

player, she would like to be a CEO of a big company but I guess you

:02:08.:02:10.

already are if you are a tennis player.

:02:11.:02:18.

Wasn't that Milos Raonic's quote at the French Open? I'm the CEO of

:02:19.:02:25.

Raonic Tennis. Martin Zathrurecky, the coach of

:02:26.:02:45.

Cepelova. He is here for this particular one and he will be

:02:46.:02:49.

delighted that she has come the hard way through qualifying.

:02:50.:02:54.

Muguruza just looks a bit off with her reactions today. That swing

:02:55.:03:11.

volley was right up the middle, not a lot of pace and no depth. She has

:03:12.:03:16.

to start finding her targets and her range a bit better off the ground.

:03:17.:03:23.

That will bail her out a bit of trouble as the match progresses, you

:03:24.:03:28.

feel. The ball had a look and thought

:03:29.:03:52.

about it and went back on the Slovakian side and the Spaniard is

:03:53.:03:57.

on the board. On what you were saying about Muguruza, she does have

:03:58.:04:01.

some early round losses, second round exits in Stuttgart and Madrid

:04:02.:04:06.

before Roland Garros. She made the semifinals in Rome but not entirely

:04:07.:04:09.

feast and famine with results but a little bit of that.

:04:10.:04:21.

Last year after she reached the final here, she really struggled

:04:22.:04:27.

with the expectation of being a top player. She came into this

:04:28.:04:32.

tournament seeded 20th 12 months ago and did not win a match through the

:04:33.:04:35.

hard court summer in the United States.

:04:36.:04:40.

She started to get her game going again in the fall when she made a

:04:41.:04:49.

huge run in a tournament, reaching the semifinals of the WTA

:04:50.:04:50.

Championships. That is what she has to do a bit

:04:51.:05:36.

more of, sending it back at the same pace that it came. This is the type

:05:37.:05:41.

of play that helped her win the French Open and get to the final

:05:42.:05:45.

here last year. She was just so hesitant early in the match.

:05:46.:05:53.

That is not just her first ace of this match but her first of the

:05:54.:05:57.

tournament. That is some excellent serving. Over

:05:58.:06:15.

the lower part of the net, it rises about six inches as it goes out

:06:16.:06:20.

wide. But she has made an impact here early on.

:06:21.:06:34.

I watch a player like this, looking at the fact, she did have a few

:06:35.:06:43.

injuries last year but it does seem surprising, given the number of

:06:44.:06:46.

tournaments she ended up playing last year, that she could drop quite

:06:47.:06:51.

so low. And with the points from last year's Wimbledon about to come

:06:52.:06:56.

off, she is already inside the top 120 and playing well above that in

:06:57.:07:02.

this match so far. Is it just confidence for lot of the players?

:07:03.:07:09.

It can also be focus. Some players are intimidated by the big state at

:07:10.:07:14.

others thrive on it. She has not had many opportunities to play on big

:07:15.:07:18.

courts or against players at the top. It is nice to see her playing

:07:19.:07:20.

at this level. She is 3-12 lifetime against top 20

:07:21.:07:36.

players. Against top 50, winning 12 and losing 33. She certainly is

:07:37.:07:43.

playing a lot better than perhaps her ranking would suggest.

:07:44.:07:51.

Let's see if Muguruza can problem solved in this first set in this

:07:52.:08:02.

match. -- solve. Things are a little off in her game right now. Let's see

:08:03.:08:10.

if she can get her feet going and play with a bit more intensity to

:08:11.:08:12.

turn this around. And it will start with free service

:08:13.:08:37.

points and getting the service going. Serving now at almost 70% and

:08:38.:08:44.

that always helps her get some easy points. It is one of the big weapons

:08:45.:08:46.

on this surface. That is how to implant a question in

:08:47.:09:16.

a top player's mind, when you come up with shots like that.

:09:17.:09:42.

Perhaps the quality of the previous return throwing Muguruza off-balance

:09:43.:09:47.

on that second serve. What a surprising three points, two

:09:48.:10:26.

double faults after a return winner and Muguruza is in real trouble.

:10:27.:10:43.

That is clever. It looked as though Muguruza had fashioned a way out of

:10:44.:10:53.

trouble with a crosscourt slice but it wasn't to be. Are you more

:10:54.:11:01.

impressed with Cepelova or more concerned with Muguruza? Good

:11:02.:11:05.

question. More impressed with Cepelova. She has capitalised on the

:11:06.:11:09.

bad play but you still had to play well to get yourself in this

:11:10.:11:14.

situation. More winners than unforced errors, serving

:11:15.:11:15.

effectively. That is a good play for Muguruza to

:11:16.:11:37.

try to use, forcing herself to move forward. When you have a more

:11:38.:11:42.

aggressive mentality, to think about moving forward and playing your

:11:43.:11:48.

game, it can get your feet going and make -- makes you go after your

:11:49.:11:56.

shots more. What a shot! Put that in the highlight show. Just amazing

:11:57.:12:05.

feel from Cepelova so far in this match. Muguruza hits the ball pretty

:12:06.:12:10.

hard and low and she is still able to find this type of angle.

:12:11.:12:34.

That court Cepelova off-guard. -- caught.

:12:35.:13:00.

She improvised, she went for it and she got her reward but maybe an

:13:01.:13:05.

element of luck attached to that particular one.

:13:06.:13:13.

I missed forehand that started the rot. Even though we have got a

:13:14.:13:35.

challenge, this will be a break of serve for the Spaniard.

:13:36.:13:42.

Confirmed by Hawk-Eye. Paying the price eventually for a low first

:13:43.:13:50.

serve percentage for Cepelova, down at 43%. You are not going to get

:13:51.:13:56.

away with that for too long against somebody of the quality of Muguruza.

:13:57.:14:00.

And talking about the pace, it was interesting to look back to her

:14:01.:14:05.

opening round match on the 49 -- forehand side, I commentated on the

:14:06.:14:09.

match with mad arena and Djokovic yesterday and Mannarino was hitting

:14:10.:14:16.

his forehand at 71. There is not a big disparity between the men and

:14:17.:14:20.

women at times off the ground. Not from the biggest hitters. You take

:14:21.:14:27.

Muguruza, Serena, Madison Keys, they are clocking the shots but you have

:14:28.:14:32.

defined your range as well. Muguruza has not been able to harness the

:14:33.:14:43.

power placement so far today. Sam Sumyk, her coach, getting a little

:14:44.:14:47.

concerned on the sidelines. Who hit the hardest on the men's tour?

:14:48.:14:56.

Consistently off both wings, Stan. Be the most even in of pace --

:14:57.:15:03.

probably the most even in terms of pace on both sides. Dominic Thiem is

:15:04.:15:05.

not far behind. Cepelova challenging again. I

:15:06.:15:23.

thought there was some chalk. Your eyes don't deceive you. Someone

:15:24.:15:32.

should tell Cepelova, if you see a puff of white, it is on the line!

:15:33.:16:01.

Starting to look more comfortable out on the court. The key for

:16:02.:16:08.

Muguruza is to be dictating play, we have seen her scrambling through the

:16:09.:16:12.

majority of this first set so far but in the last few points she has

:16:13.:16:16.

been the player up on the baseline and balanced when she hits.

:16:17.:16:23.

Just may be a sign that she is finding her range here. Some safe

:16:24.:16:41.

heading in the previous point, up the middle of the court but that

:16:42.:16:50.

time she took it right to the line. -- safe hitting.

:16:51.:16:57.

A second test of Cepelova's nerve more than anything else. She has

:16:58.:17:04.

shown she has got the shots and the game but can she finish it off?

:17:05.:17:41.

She doesn't really have any other serve. Watching her play Halep last

:17:42.:17:50.

year, it was that slide serve them it puts pressure on you know your

:17:51.:17:53.

opponent knows what is coming. That is a tough error from Muguruza

:17:54.:18:29.

who had control of that point. You are right, she was just waiting with

:18:30.:18:34.

a forehand grip for that return, especially when there is some

:18:35.:18:40.

tension in Cepelova's body. You know the serve she is going for.

:18:41.:18:53.

No question Cepelova is tight, trying to close at this first set.

:18:54.:18:59.

She has got a big swing on that forehand as well, she has to get the

:19:00.:19:02.

timing absolutely right. Good, solid tennis here from

:19:03.:19:36.

Cepelova. She handled her nerves well and allowed Muguruza to miss.

:19:37.:19:38.

She has a set point. Ms Muguruza is challenging the call,

:19:39.:20:05.

the ball was called in. What a finishing shot on the forehand side

:20:06.:20:07.

from Cepelova. Perfection. And a stunning way to take the

:20:08.:20:17.

opening set. SUE BARKER: Are we in for a big

:20:18.:20:31.

shock here? Garbine Muguruza in real trouble. We will be right back with

:20:32.:20:39.

that. On Centre Court, this match on BBC One, there was a scare for Andy

:20:40.:20:44.

Murray as he was broken in his first service game but has broken twice

:20:45.:20:47.

since then and he is now serving for the first set but facing a break

:20:48.:20:51.

point himself. A real topsy-turvy match on Centre Court. That is live

:20:52.:21:01.

on BBC One. And over on Court Number Two, Bernard Tomic is up against

:21:02.:21:05.

Radu Albot and he is serving for the match. He took the first two sets,

:21:06.:21:13.

dropped the third but is now just four point away from going through

:21:14.:21:20.

to the third round. And Richard Gasquet is in some trouble, last

:21:21.:21:25.

year's semifinalist, seeded seven. He dropped the opening set to Marcel

:21:26.:21:31.

Granollers of Spain. That match is online and you can watch it on the

:21:32.:21:36.

BBC app, the website and connected TV. You can go online to follow

:21:37.:21:42.

other matches. Sadly, we have to report that a player has withdrawn

:21:43.:21:46.

from the Championships and sad to see the young Belinda Bencic of

:21:47.:21:52.

Switzerland forced to retire in her match. She was seeded seventh in the

:21:53.:22:01.

tournament. Her opponent with a qualifier from the United States,

:22:02.:22:06.

but Belinda said she could not carry on. She had an injury to her left

:22:07.:22:12.

wrist and she could not go on. Belinda Bencic is the highest seed

:22:13.:22:17.

to fall at this year's championship, the number seven seed is out but

:22:18.:22:20.

here the number two seed is in trouble.

:22:21.:22:24.

MARK PETCHEY: The number two seed starting the second set and she will

:22:25.:22:33.

be hoping to start it better than she did the first. She was behind

:22:34.:22:35.

quickly and could not salvage it. I love to see the energy from

:22:36.:22:54.

Muguruza go up. -- I would love. She is almost too calm on the court, she

:22:55.:23:00.

had to get her feet going. She is normally do intense, how she goes

:23:01.:23:04.

about her business between points. -- so intense.

:23:05.:23:20.

Again, that change of pace extracted the error from the Spaniard. That

:23:21.:23:30.

slice worked so well at the beginning of the first set and we

:23:31.:23:34.

did not see it for the last few games. A good shot for Cepelova to

:23:35.:23:37.

mix back in here. She held her position as long as she

:23:38.:24:09.

could, Cepelova, but couldn't quite get the grip she needed when she saw

:24:10.:24:11.

which way this ball was going. Again, that is just a rally ground

:24:12.:24:33.

stroke from Muguruza that she is unable to put in the court.

:24:34.:25:32.

She was living dangerously with a couple of net cords and the unforced

:25:33.:25:39.

errors continue here in the second set. Her coach, Sam Sumyk, trying to

:25:40.:25:49.

get the message across to her to start moving forward.

:25:50.:25:54.

Brilliant return. She has come up with some inspirational shots. And

:25:55.:26:06.

at crucial times as well. Fantastic from Cepelova and she takes an even

:26:07.:26:15.

firmer grip on this contest. Fantastic start, to get a break in

:26:16.:26:21.

now the second set. Interesting, the energy, just so different between

:26:22.:26:25.

Cepelova, who looks the more confident player, the more eager

:26:26.:26:34.

player. Just having a look at Muguruza, just a gentle look up

:26:35.:26:39.

towards her box. It was not really a long, hard stare.

:26:40.:26:47.

That is the style of tennis that she played so well here last year,

:26:48.:26:54.

looking to take control of the points early, using her power and

:26:55.:26:59.

momentum to go forward. She has just been too passive so far today.

:27:00.:27:27.

Good hands again from Cepelova but Muguruza did not read the spin

:27:28.:27:31.

whatsoever. She is picking up that return very

:27:32.:28:06.

well. It is one of the big changes in tennis, the serve, return, first

:28:07.:28:10.

shot because whenever you are practising, it feels like you want

:28:11.:28:14.

to do that three shot drill. Perhaps back in your day, you practised your

:28:15.:28:21.

serve and we just did that. Back in the olden days! It is so important.

:28:22.:28:26.

One of the biggest differences in this match is points won on second

:28:27.:28:32.

serve with Muguruza on 18% and Cepelova on 56%. She is ready for

:28:33.:28:37.

that return to come right back at her and played that shot and

:28:38.:28:41.

Muguruza is on her heels, just waiting, not reacting nearly as

:28:42.:28:42.

quick as Cepelova. The looks have become more frequent

:28:43.:28:57.

over to her camp in the last few minutes from Muguruza.

:28:58.:29:15.

You feel as though the result is that she has built up recently, this

:29:16.:29:22.

is not a situation she cannot overcome but it is starting to get a

:29:23.:29:26.

little desperate, particularly if she loses this service game.

:29:27.:29:32.

Too good again. She just seems to have a lot more time on the ball

:29:33.:29:41.

than we expected. Muguruza has been the player who has mistimed more

:29:42.:29:46.

shots than Cepelova and especially on grass we thought the power would

:29:47.:29:48.

be overwhelming from Muguruza. She has no rhythm out here. Cepelova

:29:49.:30:09.

is hitting it hard and flat or mixing in lots of effective slices.

:30:10.:30:33.

She gets a little square onto the baseline when she serves, doesn't

:30:34.:30:42.

she, Muguruza? That contributes to that flat hit. For someone who is

:30:43.:30:45.

six foot tall, she doesn't necessarily get up and over as much

:30:46.:30:48.

as she perhaps should. Another error from Muguruza on a

:30:49.:31:20.

shop where she was in position. -- on a shot. And this is danger time.

:31:21.:31:47.

Oh! That is gorgeous. Well, she's been given an opportunity on every

:31:48.:31:57.

occasion and she has taken them with aplomb.

:31:58.:32:10.

Cepelova, there, just see ball hit ball. The change of direction was

:32:11.:32:20.

superb. There was nothing Muguruza could do except stand there and

:32:21.:32:26.

watch it fire past her. It is an awfully long way back from here for

:32:27.:32:32.

the French Open champion. Muguruza's best hope is that Cepelova starts to

:32:33.:32:36.

get a bit nervous, starts to think of the occasion too much. She has

:32:37.:32:40.

been pretty flawless through this match so far.

:32:41.:32:47.

Better court demeanour, better energy. And she has timed the ball

:32:48.:32:58.

better, no question. Just looking at Muguruza off the ground, where we

:32:59.:33:01.

expected her to dominate in her opening match, she was hitting the

:33:02.:33:07.

backhand and 68. Today she is down at 70 mph on the forehand and 65 on

:33:08.:33:12.

the backhand. That has allowed her opponent more time on the ball than

:33:13.:33:20.

we expected. The timing has been off and those numbers would suggest it

:33:21.:33:23.

just hasn't been a clean match so far.

:33:24.:33:32.

The service feeds have also been down from Muguruza through this

:33:33.:33:42.

tournament. Her first marriage, she averaged five miles per hour faster

:33:43.:33:43.

on the first serve. There is a classic case again of

:33:44.:34:08.

that three ball routine you want to practice. A decent return from

:34:09.:34:14.

Muguruza but you see how quickly Cepelova was in position for it.

:34:15.:34:18.

Muguruza hitting the ball late, Miss timing it.

:34:19.:34:25.

Cepelova now up to 64% points won on her second serve. Would not have

:34:26.:35:11.

guessed that coming into this match. Well, it just continues to baffle

:35:12.:35:39.

everybody but more importantly Muguruza at this point.

:35:40.:35:45.

Well, it is exactly what Muguruza needs even though it is a fairly

:35:46.:36:50.

desperate situation. A quick service game here and just try and keep the

:36:51.:36:54.

pressure on to whatever degree she can. She has done so. Hold to love.

:36:55.:37:05.

Is that the first test passed in terms of a comeback?

:37:06.:37:11.

Well, Garbine really needed that. Easy game, giving her some

:37:12.:37:18.

confidence going into this return game.

:37:19.:37:24.

It is phenomenal, isn't it? If you had said before the match that

:37:25.:37:32.

Cepelova was going to serve 38% of her first serves coming in, you

:37:33.:37:36.

would have said this would have been pretty much done and dusted,

:37:37.:37:41.

probably around two and two, three and three. But far from it. She has

:37:42.:37:45.

shown some lovely touches and she has had those three top 20 wins. Her

:37:46.:37:53.

opponent today had four top 20 wins just at Wimbledon alone last year en

:37:54.:37:57.

route to the final. The difference has been substantial but it has been

:37:58.:38:01.

conspicuous by its absence in this match so far. But nerves can be a

:38:02.:38:12.

fairly powerful thing. Your mind can be a fairly powerful adversary as

:38:13.:38:13.

well. She has to overcome that. Is that a little gentle coaching

:38:14.:38:27.

warning? Yes, Muguruza just had the soft warning of coaching from coach

:38:28.:38:34.

Sam. Told to be careful for talking too much.

:38:35.:38:54.

This is where, if you are Muguruza, you want to make Cepelova play a lot

:38:55.:39:02.

of balls here. You never know when a player has nerves overcome them, the

:39:03.:39:08.

anxiety gets too much. They start searching for it. She's looking for

:39:09.:39:09.

her second biggest win. She beat Serena a couple of years

:39:10.:39:26.

ago in Charleston. A time for her to adapt a bit and put balls in court?

:39:27.:39:32.

But that is not her natural style, is it? It's not, but the pace has

:39:33.:39:37.

been off today. She has not played her natural style which helped her

:39:38.:39:38.

win the French. Some points are bigger than others,

:39:39.:39:58.

and that was a big one for Cepelova. Yes, she had control of that point

:39:59.:40:05.

as well. But Muguruza still has a second chance to break, here.

:40:06.:40:16.

That is a careless error, there. Well behind the baseline. The whole

:40:17.:40:23.

court. Oh my. Set it up dutifully with the

:40:24.:40:26.

return. That has got to be a positive sign

:40:27.:41:28.

for Muguruza, there. There's no question Cepelova is feeling the

:41:29.:41:30.

tension of trying to close out this match. And then she produces that!

:41:31.:41:45.

She has been impressive. If there has been any pressure, she has

:41:46.:41:49.

alleviated it with that quality shot.

:41:50.:42:17.

Was that drive volley the last chance for Muguruza to create an

:42:18.:42:24.

escape route from the trouble she is in?

:42:25.:42:42.

APPLAUSE It is very much an out of sorts

:42:43.:42:52.

Muguruza. Right on the cusp of getting right

:42:53.:43:19.

back into this match, trying to get some momentum and she stops it

:43:20.:43:25.

herself will stop bad errors in that last game.

:43:26.:44:04.

There has never been a good-looking missed drop shot! Is especially

:44:05.:44:15.

wide, right? It doesn't look pretty on any level!

:44:16.:44:42.

Well struck, but good decision to not bother to challenge. It was on

:44:43.:44:50.

the line by about an inch. Great return, there. Another one of

:44:51.:45:06.

those where Muguruza is just not ready for that return to come at

:45:07.:45:07.

her. Muguruza just giving that up.

:45:08.:45:28.

Everything going Cepelova's way dumber though, to be fair. Not sure

:45:29.:45:36.

how much she knew about that. But it was in a horrible position for

:45:37.:45:38.

Muguruza. It would be a good call for Muguruza

:45:39.:45:55.

to aim the majority of her shots to the forehand of Cepelova. That is

:45:56.:45:57.

the side that can break down. Keeps the match with a slender

:45:58.:46:05.

pulse. I don't know if you know why, just

:46:06.:46:20.

looking at the matchup in terms of height, six foot against five foot

:46:21.:46:24.

six, I don't know if you know white a net is three foot, three and a

:46:25.:46:30.

half foot high. I don't know. The great Collins in his book, basically

:46:31.:46:37.

a referee used to move it, the service line included and the net up

:46:38.:46:42.

or down depending on how dominant the service points were. In 1882, it

:46:43.:46:47.

basically became this height, Lindsay. It stayed with us ever

:46:48.:46:51.

since. I saw the NBA were actually thinking about putting the

:46:52.:46:56.

basketball net up because of the proliferation of bigger basketball

:46:57.:46:58.

players and everything else, but what it has shown in this match is

:46:59.:47:05.

that if you put the net up higher to stop the big servers, the smaller

:47:06.:47:10.

players would have two kids it a lot higher. Where she has struggled

:47:11.:47:17.

today, Muguruza, is the ground strokes. Absolutely, she has not

:47:18.:47:19.

been able to get to them. So what do you think, then it stays

:47:20.:47:29.

this height? Do you want to see it... What is your take? I think

:47:30.:47:34.

it's a good question because obviously the men and women have to

:47:35.:47:40.

play over the same net. -- the same height net.

:47:41.:47:50.

Keeping a fingernail hold on this match, Muguruza. But I do feel like

:47:51.:47:56.

if you raised it coming you would still benefit the bigger servers

:47:57.:47:59.

because of the high ball you would have to hit back and then it would

:48:00.:48:04.

be straight in their strike zone. So I think, having looked at it, I'm in

:48:05.:48:06.

favour of keeping it. Yeah, did not hit through that

:48:07.:48:24.

forehand again. Played it just too careful there, Cepelova.

:48:25.:48:33.

The coach understandably urging her on. He will know there are some

:48:34.:48:38.

nerves percolating inside right now. Well, I mean, having played poorly,

:48:39.:48:58.

trying to take the ball over the high part of the net from there just

:48:59.:49:01.

seems like a bad mental error. APPLAUSE

:49:02.:49:36.

You wonder, when there is such a big differential in ranking between the

:49:37.:49:40.

two players, whether it could possibly happen, but it looks like

:49:41.:49:43.

it is going to. Cepelova with match point.

:49:44.:50:01.

And she's done it! She does have a win over Serena Williams back in

:50:02.:50:12.

2014, but this, on Court Number One here at Wimbledon against the French

:50:13.:50:16.

Open champion, as to be the biggest win of her career. What a stunning

:50:17.:50:26.

result this is. It's the biggest upset of the tournament so far.

:50:27.:50:31.

French Open champion and a lot of people's favourite to win this

:50:32.:50:36.

tournament, last year's finalist, Garbine Muguruza, just did not show

:50:37.:50:41.

up today. She was a shadow of herself. Lots of unforced errors.

:50:42.:50:46.

That was a tough day at the office for her.

:50:47.:50:52.

Well, it was almost a year ago that she lost to a player outside the top

:50:53.:51:01.

hundred. So often the big champions turn up in the major tournaments and

:51:02.:51:05.

always reduced their best. It just wasn't the case for the Spaniard

:51:06.:51:10.

today. -- produced their best. She exits Wimbledon today. Trying to

:51:11.:51:16.

hide her disappointment. But for Cepelova, who had a wonderful win

:51:17.:51:25.

last year against Simona Halep here, continues her love affair with this

:51:26.:51:32.

place with a win over the French Open champion. It seems it is the

:51:33.:51:42.

time for that story to unfold. Lovely run for her. She battled

:51:43.:51:49.

through qualifying in impressive fashion, but none more impressive

:51:50.:51:55.

than what she produced today out here on Court One. Never in doubt is

:51:56.:52:00.

the look that she gives over to her camp. So, she is through in under an

:52:01.:52:06.

hour. Quite incredible. Cepelova knocking out Muguruza, the French

:52:07.:52:11.

Open champion, 6-3, 6-2. She's chatting with Gary Richardson. Many

:52:12.:52:16.

congratulations. What a fantastic win, the best of your career. Thank

:52:17.:52:21.

you very much. I'm so happy for this match. I played really well and I

:52:22.:52:27.

think I deserved the win today. You certainly did. Just how surprised

:52:28.:52:32.

are you to have won so easily. Very surprised. I didn't expect it in two

:52:33.:52:39.

sets. You came through Wimbledon qualifying. How many people were

:52:40.:52:43.

watching some of those matches, Wimbledon qualifying? My coach and

:52:44.:52:49.

some 200 people, but our family at home, I think they watch it. Today

:52:50.:52:54.

you were on Centre Court. Having come through qualifying where maybe

:52:55.:52:59.

just a few people were watching, today you had the whole of court and

:53:00.:53:04.

one. What a fantastic experience. Yes, last year I beat Simona Halep

:53:05.:53:08.

on this court and I had great memories, so I'm so happy. Great

:53:09.:53:12.

memories of beating Serena Williams as well. You know you can beat the

:53:13.:53:19.

top players. Yes, I know! I have beaten some great players and I'm

:53:20.:53:23.

very satisfied with this. Very well done, thank you. Thank you very

:53:24.:53:29.

much. She really is a giant killer, isn't she? We've seen so often

:53:30.:53:33.

before how players have struggled to come from the clay to the grass,

:53:34.:53:37.

Garbine Muguruza may be struggling with the pressure and expectation of

:53:38.:53:40.

being the French Open champion and the new world number two. But she

:53:41.:53:44.

departs in the second round and this young lady, Janacek

:53:45.:53:51.

-- Jana Cepelova has put out Garbine Muguruza, that is the story on Court

:53:52.:54:01.

Number One. Over on Centre Court, Andy Murray in action. He was a

:54:02.:54:06.

break down in the first set but normal service resumed come he won

:54:07.:54:09.

it and he is a break-up in the second set, leading 4-2. If you want

:54:10.:54:14.

to watch that, it is on BBC One. I can tell you that today, the 25th

:54:15.:54:20.

seed from Serbia, Viktor Troicki, is not a happy man. He was locked in

:54:21.:54:25.

battle against Albert Ramos-Vinolas against Spain. Ramos-Vinolas was

:54:26.:54:33.

serving in the fourth and final set, it looks as though his serve is out

:54:34.:54:37.

but the umpire overrules. You can judge for yourself.

:54:38.:54:45.

UMPIRE: 40-30. SHOUTING

:54:46.:54:55.

That was in! Look at it! What? What! Look at it! Trying to show him there

:54:56.:55:02.

is no white mark on the ball, so it did clip the line. What are you

:55:03.:55:10.

doing? Did you see the ball? You saw it! Then a warning for bad conduct,

:55:11.:55:23.

but it means that it gives Albert Ramos-Vinolas match point.

:55:24.:55:36.

That is the match over, and the umpire from Italy who is in the

:55:37.:55:45.

chair, it's not over for him yet, because Viktor Troicki still has

:55:46.:55:52.

some words for him. Ever! Do you know what you did? Do you know what

:55:53.:55:57.

you did? Do you know what you did? You are horrible!

:55:58.:56:06.

BOOING What are you doing? What are you

:56:07.:56:16.

doing? What are you doing here! Well, it went on for quite some

:56:17.:56:22.

time. Obviously so disappointed. 6-3 in the third and final set. It made

:56:23.:56:28.

the difference, it gave the Spaniard match point. Viktor Troicki went

:56:29.:56:32.

straight from Court 17 into the referee's office and I think we will

:56:33.:56:36.

hear more from that. That is the story on Court 17 but from here we

:56:37.:56:41.

are heading to Court Eighteen, where the Eastbourne champion Dominika

:56:42.:56:48.

Cibulkova is facing Daria Gavrilova from Australia. It is 1-1 in the

:56:49.:56:53.

second set and we can join our commentators. It is crisp broom and

:56:54.:56:57.

Guy McCrea. COMMENTATOR: A better first serve

:56:58.:57:16.

from Gavrilova. It's been a key aspect of this game. When the first

:57:17.:57:24.

serve has gone in, the points have been so much easier for her.

:57:25.:57:37.

It is a key period in the match, this one, at the moment. Gavrilova

:57:38.:57:45.

battling away, trying to get a foothold in more of these neutral

:57:46.:57:50.

rallies, if you like. Trying to get the right balance. Looking to be

:57:51.:57:55.

aggressive but not overly so. Of course you always know what you're

:57:56.:57:59.

going to get from Cibulkova, the aggression. And she holds. Gavrilova

:58:00.:58:11.

keeps her nose in front in this second set, 2-1 she leads.

:58:12.:58:22.

Yeah, it's a fascinating period of the match. In Gavrilova's team, and

:58:23.:58:33.

Nicole Pratt, they make a lot of use of the on court coaching. Of course

:58:34.:58:37.

you don't have that at grand slam events and she is having to think

:58:38.:58:41.

her way through against an opponent who is in good touch here. Trying to

:58:42.:58:45.

strike that balance a little bit and not be overly aggressive. Try and

:58:46.:58:55.

mix it up. It's a big problem for her, the first serve percentage

:58:56.:59:00.

below 45. To get cheap points but also to allow her to build points

:59:01.:59:06.

and get her on the first right. You mentioned the on court coaching. She

:59:07.:59:11.

was US Open junior champion in 2010. But she's up against the lady who

:59:12.:59:18.

won Eastbourne last week. Two of them coming this season. A real

:59:19.:59:24.

battle out there for the youngster, but she's done really well thus far.

:59:25.:59:30.

She had the early lead in the first set and just let it slip.

:59:31.:59:50.

Well, she was on to the drop shot. She couldn't execute the return.

:59:51.:00:02.

Hence the little hop at the end. She's so fast, that's the thing. She

:00:03.:00:09.

got there in good time. Just lacking the execution at the end.

:00:10.:00:31.

And she went after that. It was some way wide of the mark.

:00:32.:01:41.

They don't get much better than that. She played a drop shot in the

:01:42.:01:49.

first set, Cibulkova, that was very good. This is exquisite. It is not

:01:50.:01:55.

the first time we have seen this ability to take all the pace. Coming

:01:56.:02:03.

across the board as well to get some good side spin. Such a good tactic

:02:04.:02:07.

in the early days on the lawns. She was not a long way off considering

:02:08.:02:08.

how far she had to run. Another good start for Cibulkova on

:02:09.:02:29.

the Gavrilova serve. Gavrilova thinking about the

:02:30.:02:48.

challenge but the chair umpire was sure it was out so she didn't bother

:02:49.:02:49.

going with it. This is exactly what we have been

:02:50.:03:04.

talking about here. Gavrilova there is a bit of emotion there now. It is

:03:05.:03:09.

all about choosing the right moment to attack and that was not the right

:03:10.:03:11.

moment of that return, clearly. She is just losing it a bit

:03:12.:03:36.

mentally. She was absolutely trying to hit the cover off the ball on

:03:37.:03:40.

those forehands. Just chuntering away to herself.

:03:41.:04:08.

What a way to break. It is driven down the line from Cibulkova. The

:04:09.:04:18.

third opportunity she has had to break in this set. It is the first

:04:19.:04:23.

time she has taken it. Cibulkova leads by five games to two, having

:04:24.:04:26.

taken the first set 6-3. Dominika Cibulkova doing a much

:04:27.:04:38.

better job at the moment of choosing the right moment to be aggressive.

:04:39.:04:42.

She is naturally a more aggressive player. You go back a few years when

:04:43.:04:48.

she worked with denarius Safina's former coach. He arguably made her a

:04:49.:04:53.

bit to aggressive. But what they are doing now is they are tempering it a

:04:54.:04:58.

bit more, they are building the rallies more. She is obviously a few

:04:59.:05:05.

years older than her opponent. There is some of the team. She has brought

:05:06.:05:12.

on a new mental coach and also a new physical coach to the team. They are

:05:13.:05:24.

just trying to get her to be little less harsh on herself at times, and

:05:25.:05:31.

just look to build and be a bit more patient in rallies.

:05:32.:05:57.

Just from gavel over's mental state of mind, I think she needs to start

:05:58.:06:05.

winning some points to stop herself beating herself up -- Gavrilova's

:06:06.:06:07.

mind. That is now ten points on the bounce

:06:08.:06:27.

for Cibulkova. It is not getting any better I am

:06:28.:07:00.

afraid for a Gavrilova perspective. I am very impressed with how

:07:01.:07:04.

Cibulkova has served in this match. There was some issues in these far

:07:05.:07:07.

end with the breeze swirling around. He is a bit of a rising star. And a

:07:08.:07:20.

point at last for Gavrilova. This is a good test for her going

:07:21.:07:55.

forward against a very good player. It has finally taken its toll. She

:07:56.:09:12.

slams the racket into the turf. The officials always worn the players

:09:13.:09:18.

about the fact of taking care of the grass and surface. That was coming,

:09:19.:09:23.

frankly. It is the way the match has gone away from her.

:09:24.:10:10.

You can argue that you have to have the opportunity to change things up

:10:11.:10:17.

but I think the numbers could have been higher with the relative

:10:18.:10:18.

struggles to land the first serve Try as she might, she could not stay

:10:19.:10:38.

in the point. Oh, yes! A wonderful shot from

:10:39.:11:53.

Cibulkova. There is a chance here for a double break. She really

:11:54.:11:58.

invested in getting the returning to play. She did not have many options.

:11:59.:12:01.

Cibulkova getting down to the past. A challenge, is it?

:12:02.:12:25.

UMPIRE: Too late. She is being told it is too late. That will not

:12:26.:12:27.

improve her state of mind. Oh, yes! What a brave shot. Facing

:12:28.:12:57.

double break points in this second set. If she is going to have the

:12:58.:13:07.

recovery here, she is leaving it late but giving Cibulkova a taste of

:13:08.:13:09.

her own medicine there. We saw an exquisite drop shot from

:13:10.:13:21.

Cibulkova earlier in this set. Excellent response and a round of

:13:22.:14:17.

applause from the coach. It is almost as if the confusion from the

:14:18.:14:20.

chair umpire spurred her on. She is feisty. After the first round

:14:21.:14:44.

win she talked about going forward, trying to channel, how should we put

:14:45.:14:51.

this, the feistiness of Lleyton Hewitt on the court.

:14:52.:15:12.

I think that is why the Australians have taken to her. She was Russian

:15:13.:15:20.

originally. Head challenges have been poor. I think this one could be

:15:21.:15:27.

another one which is long. She lost a couple early on in the match.

:15:28.:16:04.

The line judge called it out so it was a double call from the chair as

:16:05.:16:09.

well. Gavrilova's shot was out. So, a second opportunity in this

:16:10.:16:56.

game for Cibulkova to break. What a first serve! As deep as it

:16:57.:17:10.

could be. He will ask for the ball to be

:17:11.:18:02.

replayed. The fact is, it will always be replayed in that

:18:03.:18:05.

situation, she got a racket on it, got a play.

:18:06.:18:43.

Third break point opportunity. The umpire is really involved in this

:18:44.:18:51.

game. I don't think I have ever seen a chair umpire being so involved.

:18:52.:18:53.

Certainly not in one game. The longest rally of the match

:18:54.:19:49.

results in Cibulkova securing the double break. And surely her

:19:50.:19:55.

passport into the next round. She has still got to serve it out. What

:19:56.:20:04.

a game that was! The longest game of the match. Brilliant fighting

:20:05.:20:11.

qualities from both players. But in the end, it is Cibulkova who

:20:12.:20:16.

prevails. So impressive here. She had to win the point to three times.

:20:17.:20:21.

Gavrilova looking to take the pace. She talked about how much she loved

:20:22.:20:29.

camping in that backhand corner. And you get the feeling here that that

:20:30.:20:36.

was the match, it can be a cliche to talk about it, but Gavrilova

:20:37.:20:41.

invested so much in that game. It will be difficult to summon up the

:20:42.:20:45.

effort now required to get back into this. It is a long road back. Almost

:20:46.:20:59.

impossible. Lovely! Beautifully constructed

:21:00.:21:50.

point. She has just been a bit smarter overall here. Again, looking

:21:51.:21:55.

to get forward. Choosing the right moment to attack, to be aggressive.

:21:56.:22:21.

And the fight scenes to have gone from Gavrilova. It is interesting

:22:22.:22:27.

because Cibulkova was asked about grass courts. It has never

:22:28.:22:33.

traditionally been a surface she enjoyed. Winning the Eastbourne

:22:34.:22:35.

title is a massive boost. Down the line again. This time on

:22:36.:23:04.

the backhand. It is three match points.

:23:05.:23:28.

And Cibulkova finds it at the first time of asking and is into round

:23:29.:23:39.

three of Wimbledon in straight sets! 6-3, 6-2, she prevailed in an hour

:23:40.:23:46.

and 18 minutes. She will face either Eugenie Bouchard or Johanna Konta in

:23:47.:23:50.

the next round. A thoroughly excellent performance from the 19

:23:51.:23:57.

seed. Smiles all round. A quarterfinalist here in 2011. Can

:23:58.:24:03.

she match that go further in 2016? Yet to be defeated on grass this she

:24:04.:24:13.

continues to impress. Yes, I would go along with that. She will be

:24:14.:24:14.

mighty pleased. SUE BARKER: Yes, another confident

:24:15.:24:27.

performance from the Eastbourne champion. Andy Murray is a couple of

:24:28.:24:34.

points from going through in his second-round match on Centre Court,

:24:35.:24:40.

which is over BBC One. Johanna Konta is next on Centre. We will just pop

:24:41.:24:46.

into Court Number Two to see and yes the Radwanska, a former finalist,

:24:47.:24:52.

seeded three. She is against Ana Konjuh, the 18-year-old. Dan Lobb is

:24:53.:24:55.

alongside Liz Smylie. Finally she makes a good forehand.

:24:56.:25:28.

She has had so many an forced errors. She needs that winners count

:25:29.:25:33.

up and to force more errors of the racket of Radwanska.

:25:34.:25:55.

-- Ana Konjuh. Well played. She is fighting hard. She is hanging in

:25:56.:26:18.

there. It is one-way traffic. Radwanska, the number three seed

:26:19.:26:28.

full of toys. -- poll ease. This young lady has a bright future.

:26:29.:26:54.

Nicely done, good touch. Good anticipation there. This was the

:26:55.:27:04.

drop shot from Radwanska, coming under the ball.

:27:05.:27:15.

Lovely shot! You have to say that was a poor approach shot from

:27:16.:27:43.

Radwanska, but dealt with very well by Ana Konjuh. Not nearly enough

:27:44.:27:50.

penetration on the backhand from Radwanska.

:27:51.:27:58.

And then she follows it up with that, Liz!

:27:59.:29:05.

Well played, Ana Konjuh. She has a break of serve.

:29:06.:29:28.

Could this be a turnaround in fortunes? We would not have guessed

:29:29.:29:36.

it, would we, even five minutes ago? We know this lady on screen. She is

:29:37.:29:41.

a big hitter of the ball. She has a big serve and has hit some really

:29:42.:29:45.

nice drop shots. We keep getting back to it, it is the unforced

:29:46.:29:50.

errors which count. 25 to one is something which is hard to come back

:29:51.:29:59.

from. That would have been spectacular. This is the kind of

:30:00.:30:01.

player that gives Radwanska difficulties.

:30:02.:30:08.

Well, on this day when we have lost 15 seeds already, Radwanska down a

:30:09.:30:18.

break in that second set. If you want to continue watching it, you

:30:19.:30:24.

can do online or on connected TV. Britain's Andy Murray made his way

:30:25.:30:29.

to the third round, defeating Yen-Hsun Lu of Taipei. He was a

:30:30.:30:39.

break down in the first set, but won 6-3, 6-2, 6-1. Written's Andy Murray

:30:40.:30:44.

through to the third round. Another wonderful performance from him on

:30:45.:30:49.

Centre Court. Let's hear what he had to say. Congratulations. Another

:30:50.:30:54.

straight sets win. How comfortable was that victory today? Well, the

:30:55.:31:00.

first set was tough. I went down a break early and then there were a

:31:01.:31:04.

lot of close games in the first set. I managed to hang on at the end of

:31:05.:31:08.

the first and had a couple of break points at the 5-3 game. I second

:31:09.:31:15.

down -- settled down towards the end of the second. Were you aware of the

:31:16.:31:21.

rain that was on its way? There were a few raindrops starting and the

:31:22.:31:28.

groundsman coming to the edge of the court and it is starting to look a

:31:29.:31:34.

little bit dark. Thankfully I had a decent lead at that stage when it

:31:35.:31:39.

came, but obviously when it's close and the rain is coming, you're quite

:31:40.:31:44.

anxious to get off. It was good to get it done before the rain started.

:31:45.:31:50.

No sets dropped so far. How conscious are you of conserving

:31:51.:31:54.

energy for the challenges that are still to come? I think everyone is.

:31:55.:31:58.

If you can win matches easily, it does help. You don't take so much

:31:59.:32:03.

out of yourself and mentally the days aren't as training either.

:32:04.:32:07.

You have spoken recently about how sport can take people's minds of the

:32:08.:32:14.

issues of the nation. We saw how Marcus Willis has live in the

:32:15.:32:19.

country in the last few days. Are you aware of the responsibility now

:32:20.:32:22.

on your shoulders over the next ten days? I haven't thought too much

:32:23.:32:29.

about that. I was just talking about Marcus's story really a couple of

:32:30.:32:34.

days ago. It's just great. I think everyone loved it. I think the way

:32:35.:32:38.

he handled everything was just unbelievable. The way he came out on

:32:39.:32:43.

the court yesterday and the way he fought and played was just great to

:32:44.:32:48.

see. I really enjoyed that. I think everyone who follows sport in the

:32:49.:32:52.

country and maybe a few fans who weren't into tennis before, maybe

:32:53.:32:55.

would have got into it because of him and his story. So that's really

:32:56.:33:00.

nice. I just try and do my best, work hard, and my head down and

:33:01.:33:05.

hopefully have a good tournament. Well done and we wish you the best

:33:06.:33:09.

of luck for the rest of it. Thank you.

:33:10.:33:11.

STUDIO He will be an slowly delighted with

:33:12.:33:16.

his performance today. I'm sure coach Ivan Lewis will and Jamie

:33:17.:33:19.

Delgado who were watching on well have been absolutely thrilled. He

:33:20.:33:23.

was aggressive on the practice court, wanting to move forward, and

:33:24.:33:27.

he certainly did that today. After that early break of serve it was all

:33:28.:33:31.

one-way traffic for Britain's and number one. They won't be going

:33:32.:33:38.

anywhere out there because Britain's number one woman, Jo Konta, will be

:33:39.:33:42.

out on court in a fascinating matchup against Eugenie Bouchard. A

:33:43.:33:48.

former runner-up here at The Championships. So, let's get a

:33:49.:33:52.

little reaction to that. Annabel is with me and gosh, he played well,

:33:53.:33:57.

didn't he? He did play really well. I think Yen-Hsun Lu is not an easy

:33:58.:34:02.

competitor at all. He gets a lot of balls back into play and he comes at

:34:03.:34:07.

you. He's had some big wins here in the past, like Andy Roddick some

:34:08.:34:12.

years ago. Once Andy Murray settled down, he really started to flow.

:34:13.:34:16.

When he got that first set under his belt he opened up his shoulders. The

:34:17.:34:20.

most impressive aspect with Murray is his movement. He is so quick off

:34:21.:34:32.

the mark, he can get to anything. The sheer fact that he chases every

:34:33.:34:34.

single ball, it pressures the opponent to feel they can do much

:34:35.:34:37.

more with the ball. He was really impressive. You add to that the

:34:38.:34:40.

aggression he now has in his game and it was ten out of ten. The ball

:34:41.:34:44.

must feel like a football, almost. He's just getting better and better.

:34:45.:34:48.

He's moved on his form even from Queen's and we thought he was

:34:49.:34:53.

playing well there! There are so many layers to his game. He knows he

:34:54.:34:56.

can pull in the reins and play defensively if he has two and just

:34:57.:35:01.

go for the long haul and take a match into a physical contest and

:35:02.:35:04.

outmanoeuvre people from the back of the court, or he can play with this

:35:05.:35:08.

new-found aggression which is something Ivan Lewis all brought to

:35:09.:35:11.

him the first time round. It has slipped back a bit and that is

:35:12.:35:14.

something we're seeing in his game. -- Ivan

:35:15.:35:21.

He can pull opponents into awkward positions and mess with their

:35:22.:35:26.

rhythm, make them play worse tennis than they are normally capable of

:35:27.:35:30.

playing. I love the slice backhand and the way he comes inside the ball

:35:31.:35:34.

and pulls you out of position and then can accelerate into the open

:35:35.:35:38.

court. There are so many things he does that are very subtle but you

:35:39.:35:42.

can't see it, but as an opponent it feels horrible. He makes you play

:35:43.:35:47.

worse tennis than you're capable of playing. He has so many different

:35:48.:35:49.

styles he's facing and the tactics, he has so

:35:50.:36:04.

many shots, he can use in so many different things depending on who

:36:05.:36:07.

he's playing. He has a wonderful tennis brain, that is the thing. He

:36:08.:36:09.

sees a tennis match as a road map and it's about how he gets from a to

:36:10.:36:13.

B. A lot of players on the tour can be quite one-dimensional, whereas

:36:14.:36:15.

Andy can adapt to what is going on. I think he looks very comfortable on

:36:16.:36:19.

and off the court. I think we're seeing a very relaxed Andy Murray

:36:20.:36:24.

these days, he seems at ease with himself, less ranting at himself

:36:25.:36:27.

going on. I just think generally he is in a very good place at the

:36:28.:36:31.

moment. He's playing some of the best tennis I've seen and I think

:36:32.:36:36.

he's playing better than when he won Wimbledon and the US Open.

:36:37.:36:40.

Absolutely, playing himself in to format the right time. 15 seeds have

:36:41.:36:45.

gone out today at the Championships and the highest to fall, Garbine

:36:46.:36:50.

Muguruza. Last year's finalist, the French Open champion, and she was

:36:51.:36:54.

really out of sorts on Court Number One, losing to Jana Cepelova of

:36:55.:37:02.

Slovakia. She has beaten Serena Williams before but now she has

:37:03.:37:07.

beaten the new superstar of the game, Garbine Muguruza. Everyone

:37:08.:37:10.

talking about her becoming the big star women's tennis, but Jana

:37:11.:37:16.

Cepelova has won out on Court Number One and that is the biggest shock of

:37:17.:37:23.

The Championships so far. Annabel, Muguruza didn't play well, did she?

:37:24.:37:29.

Full marks to Jana Cepelova, but Muguruza was not at her best? I was

:37:30.:37:34.

disappointed because I was picking her up and clearly there has been a

:37:35.:37:38.

hangover from being the newly crowned French Open champion, that

:37:39.:37:41.

much more expectation and pressure. She has so much poise and composure

:37:42.:37:47.

on the court and yet today balls were just spraying all over the

:37:48.:37:50.

place. I felt she just looked a bit flat out there and she just couldn't

:37:51.:37:55.

string it together. There were a few half chance moments. Matches are so

:37:56.:37:58.

interesting the way the scoreline goes, you get these pressure moments

:37:59.:38:03.

you take or you don't. She just wasn't able to capitalise on them

:38:04.:38:06.

and it just kept going in one moment away from her and she could never

:38:07.:38:11.

get herself back involved in it. Full marks to her opponent, who has

:38:12.:38:16.

beaten Serena Williams in her time. No pushover. And she has beaten

:38:17.:38:20.

Simona Halep here as well in the past. She's clearly not afraid to

:38:21.:38:24.

take on the big names and she enjoys herself out on the big court. It was

:38:25.:38:27.

still disappointing because I'm a big fan of Muguruza and should I

:38:28.:38:31.

think she is a big fan of the future. She just sometimes has these

:38:32.:38:36.

rocky moments in her career when she is up and down and fluctuates a bit.

:38:37.:38:40.

Last year she proved how good she can be on grass, so it has to be on

:38:41.:38:44.

her head and dealing with the pressure and expectation. He had a

:38:45.:38:48.

little bit after making the final at Wimbledon last year as well. Now

:38:49.:38:52.

everything that comes with being a star is hard to deal with. It is and

:38:53.:38:56.

it's hard to deal with that. Even with Eugenie Bouchard who is about

:38:57.:39:01.

to take on Jo Konta, we saw that exact same thing happened to her

:39:02.:39:04.

although I thought Muguruza got herself back on track earlier. She

:39:05.:39:09.

doesn't play with a lot of margin, Muguruza. Andy Murray has so many

:39:10.:39:13.

layers and games files he can go to, but Muguruza hits hard and flat,

:39:14.:39:17.

pretty low over the net and if it's not quite firing, she doesn't have

:39:18.:39:22.

this versatility in her game to be able to adapt. What I love about her

:39:23.:39:27.

game is how early she takes the ball. When you stand courtside, you

:39:28.:39:31.

will see her almost with both feet off the ground, she really jumps on

:39:32.:39:35.

the return of serve, the backhand is phenomenal and she has a big service

:39:36.:39:40.

weapon. But if it is slightly off like it was today, the balls were

:39:41.:39:44.

missing by quite some distance. I just thought emotionally she looked

:39:45.:39:48.

a bit flat, she couldn't get herself involved in it. Let's take you back

:39:49.:39:52.

to earlier today and a match that was unfinished because of the rain,

:39:53.:39:56.

Britain's Heather Watson against Annika Beck of Germany. I'm afraid

:39:57.:40:00.

it ended in huge disappointment for Heather. These are the sorts of

:40:01.:40:05.

rallies they had from start to finish. They both play a similar

:40:06.:40:08.

style, hard-hitting ground shots from the back of the court. Heather

:40:09.:40:15.

had some chances, 0-40 on the Annika Beck served with three match points

:40:16.:40:20.

and she wasn't able to take them. That was the match point, Annika

:40:21.:40:26.

Beck wins it 12-10. Only 12 places separating them in the rankings so

:40:27.:40:31.

we knew it would be close. A huge disappointment for Heather, who

:40:32.:40:35.

played so well last year here at Wimbledon and was within two points

:40:36.:40:38.

of putting out Serena Williams on Centre Court. It ends in

:40:39.:40:42.

disappointment today out on Court Twelve. Full marks to Annika Beck as

:40:43.:40:47.

she goes through 12-10. She's going to think about that a lot. She won't

:40:48.:40:54.

sleep tonight. She really won't, that's an absolute heartbreak for

:40:55.:40:58.

her. With hello, she's done very well on the tour and she won her

:40:59.:41:03.

third tour title and did well in Miami. She really wanted to take a

:41:04.:41:08.

tennis to the next level and do very well in the Grand Slams. Very close

:41:09.:41:14.

to her heart is trying to do well in her home Grand Slam here at

:41:15.:41:17.

Wimbledon. Everyone remembers that match when she was within two points

:41:18.:41:21.

of defeating Serena Williams. To have three match points and be that

:41:22.:41:25.

close to coming over the line, it's a crushing blow to her and she will

:41:26.:41:29.

be devastated. It hasn't been a good grass court season for her. I wonder

:41:30.:41:33.

how she's going to pick herself up from this and go forward. I think

:41:34.:41:38.

she's also someone who has fluctuated a bit with her results.

:41:39.:41:43.

With Heather, I think sometimes she tries to take herself out of her

:41:44.:41:47.

comfort zone, which is effectively being a very good defender from the

:41:48.:41:51.

back of the court. She tries to add more power to her game but she is a

:41:52.:41:54.

slight physique and she doesn't possess massive weapons out there.

:41:55.:42:01.

She does play a lot of 3-set matches, very hard-fought contests,

:42:02.:42:05.

and over the long haul that takes its toll on you. It's hard for her

:42:06.:42:10.

to get out of that comfort zone and this is just another really big

:42:11.:42:14.

blow, I think. It has become a big power game, the women's game. Out on

:42:15.:42:20.

Centre Court we see Jo Konta, another of the power players. We

:42:21.:42:24.

will just pause for the arrival of the players, Jo Konta and Eugenie

:42:25.:42:36.

Bouchard. And it looks as though Jo Konta has got her game face on. Not

:42:37.:42:42.

looking at the crowd at all, face down, this is business and she knows

:42:43.:42:46.

it's a tough match. It has become a power game and Jo has really

:42:47.:42:52.

improved so much. Big serves, first and second, and huge round shots.

:42:53.:42:57.

She really does. The backhand is absolutely phenom in. It's a

:42:58.:43:02.

world-class shot. I always look at the way Topshop coming through the

:43:03.:43:07.

court and Jo's is a very heavy strike. She gets it through the

:43:08.:43:11.

court and deep to the baseline and she can take opponents out wide. The

:43:12.:43:17.

forehand, which used to be more of a liability and more jittery, that

:43:18.:43:21.

seems to have disappeared and it's now quite a force, it doesn't break

:43:22.:43:25.

down. She has added a lot more angle on her forehand and she can really

:43:26.:43:30.

open up the angle out wide. The other thing she has added is this

:43:31.:43:34.

cheeky drop shot that she plays crosscourt. She used it in the first

:43:35.:43:39.

round against Monica Puig and she has a lot of layers to her game. You

:43:40.:43:44.

look at her draw and this is a really tough one, against a former

:43:45.:43:48.

finalist, although Eugenie Bouchard has been struggling with form. She

:43:49.:43:52.

has got no pressure on her this year, with no points to defend. The

:43:53.:43:59.

draw has not been kind to Jo. She needed to be impressive against

:44:00.:44:00.

Monica Puig and she was. COMMENTATOR: On pure ranking of

:44:01.:44:12.

course, Gunter should be the strong favourite. So good. What a start.

:44:13.:44:25.

The serving is really doing the job. She wouldn't have drained of a start

:44:26.:44:32.

as good as this. Konta on the brink of her first-ever win at Wimbledon.

:44:33.:44:35.

And boy did she finish with a flourish! A magnificent final game

:44:36.:44:42.

from the British number one. What does it finally mean to get that

:44:43.:44:46.

first win in the first round here at Wimbledon? I'm obviously very happy

:44:47.:44:50.

to still be in the singles event here, but I didn't quite put so much

:44:51.:44:53.

pressure on myself in that context. I have made the second week of

:44:54.:44:59.

Wimbledon in the last few years because of the Mixed Doubles! I have

:45:00.:45:03.

experience winning here but not on the singles court. I'm happy to be

:45:04.:45:06.

involved and looking forward to the next round. What are you most proud

:45:07.:45:10.

of in terms of how you handled the situation out there? How I stayed

:45:11.:45:15.

present and stayed calm and was able to enjoy the amount of time I could

:45:16.:45:20.

spend out on court but also keep it light-hearted off the court. Here

:45:21.:45:26.

you are now as the British number one. What do you think is the

:45:27.:45:30.

biggest difference between you last year and what we're seeing this

:45:31.:45:35.

year? I'm very much the same person, same player, same competitor. I

:45:36.:45:39.

haven't really thought much about the seedings and whatever external

:45:40.:45:42.

interest there is. I'm here playing a tennis tournament which happens to

:45:43.:45:48.

be Wimbledon, amazing, and seeing what -- enjoying what I do. You seem

:45:49.:45:52.

calmer. What do you put that down to? Hard work. I don't think there's

:45:53.:45:59.

any easy way around it. I had to work hard on channelling my emotions

:46:00.:46:03.

when they needed to be and also sometimes boxing them when they

:46:04.:46:07.

needed to be. It was continuous work. I know there is a lot going on

:46:08.:46:13.

and it's so hectic at a Grand Slam but have you had a chance to get

:46:14.:46:17.

away from the court, what do you like doing? I like eating! I have

:46:18.:46:27.

tried to get is good dinners. I actually also enjoy really mundane

:46:28.:46:32.

things like doing a shop and making breakfast. I'm making soft boiled

:46:33.:46:45.

eggs with pitta bread and hummous, I feel very gourmet right now! The big

:46:46.:46:55.

thing with her is not getting affected by the situation. It's

:46:56.:47:02.

almost as if a switch has been flipped. She has been working with a

:47:03.:47:07.

Spanish psychologist and she almost meditates at the change of ends. She

:47:08.:47:12.

said she does meditate. Tennis players have very active minds

:47:13.:47:15.

between points. It can be very negative and have an impact on you.

:47:16.:47:20.

But she tries to stay very present and in the moment. It has certainly

:47:21.:47:25.

worked for her. I think she just has it in perspective. She tries to

:47:26.:47:29.

think about how enjoyable it is out on the Centre Court for instance, or

:47:30.:47:33.

what the crowd are doing and how they are enjoying coming to watch

:47:34.:47:39.

her play tennis. It is a sport, it's just a tennis match, and she tries

:47:40.:47:43.

to put it in perspective. It has definitely worked for her. It's not

:47:44.:47:47.

an easy thing to do, it takes a lot of work to do mentally to keep

:47:48.:47:50.

working on that side of things. I think she is a hard worker and for

:47:51.:47:54.

most of her career she has been in the shadow of heather and Laura

:47:55.:47:59.

Robson, and all of a sudden she has risen through the ranks and

:48:00.:48:01.

overtaken both of them and here she is at the British number one and

:48:02.:48:05.

seeded for the first time at Wimbledon, but she has earned that

:48:06.:48:08.

position over a long period of time with a lot of hard work. Also she

:48:09.:48:12.

has handled the pressure so well. Coming in here as the first read

:48:13.:48:17.

since 1984 for Great Britain in the Women's Singles. I think it's

:48:18.:48:22.

because she has these kind of trigger things that go on in her

:48:23.:48:27.

mind and enable her to play in the moment, as Billie Jean King famously

:48:28.:48:32.

said. Easier said than done! I think she's very refreshing as a

:48:33.:48:36.

character. She's a ridding nice person and she's very popular both

:48:37.:48:40.

on and off the court. -- really nice person. People admire her attitude

:48:41.:48:45.

and professionalism and how hard she has worked to be where she is at. My

:48:46.:48:50.

goodness, it's been a meteoric rise, from 126 to wear she is in the world

:48:51.:48:57.

right now. It's been phenomenal. -- where she is now. And then she will

:48:58.:49:00.

have to work to defend the points, that will be tricky for her. This is

:49:01.:49:05.

her opponent today, Eugenie Bouchard, the finalist in 2014. We

:49:06.:49:09.

wonder which Eugenie Bouchard will show up today. It has been an up and

:49:10.:49:11.

down time for her in recent years. Mercurial sums up Eugenie Bouchard.

:49:12.:49:21.

The 22-year-old Canadian blasted onto the scene in 2012, lifting the

:49:22.:49:25.

Wimbledon junior trophy in both the singles and doubles.

:49:26.:49:29.

Just two years later, she stunned everyone by making her first Grand

:49:30.:49:37.

Slam final appearance here at Wimbledon. She was ultimately beaten

:49:38.:49:42.

by Petra Kvitova. But her aggressive style of play moved her up to fifth

:49:43.:49:48.

in the world rankings. And she was rapidly becoming one of the most

:49:49.:49:51.

marketable young sports stars in the world. 2015 saw a slump in form and

:49:52.:49:58.

rankings. She lost matches, went out in the first round of Wimbledon to a

:49:59.:50:03.

qualifier... Eugenie Bouchard drops out of the top 20 in the world. She

:50:04.:50:08.

changed coaches twice and finished the year with a lawsuit after

:50:09.:50:12.

slipping in the locker room and sustaining a concussion. Now,

:50:13.:50:19.

though, Bouchard is working her way back. Her star is capable of burning

:50:20.:50:25.

much brighter. Konta must be aware as they go head-to-head for the

:50:26.:50:27.

first time. STUDIO

:50:28.:50:31.

We talked about the pressure and expectation and that was it after

:50:32.:50:34.

the final and she did not deal with it too well, but now no pressure so

:50:35.:50:38.

nothing to lose? She had the honeymoon period where she sunk to

:50:39.:50:43.

almost rock bottom afterwards. There were matches that workprint she when

:50:44.:50:48.

she was struggling emotionally and she couldn't keep the ball in the

:50:49.:50:51.

court and control the situation out there. But she has won a lot more

:50:52.:50:54.

matches this year coming into Wimbledon than last year. Certainly

:50:55.:51:03.

tough. We can watch this now in the company of Tracy Austin and Sam

:51:04.:51:05.

Smith. Last night, Eugenie Bouchard was

:51:06.:51:28.

finishing off her first-round match on the Centre Court under the roof.

:51:29.:51:41.

So you would imagine that the 22-year-old from Montreal in Canada

:51:42.:51:48.

would be the first to get her bearings, because Jo hasn't been out

:51:49.:51:56.

here since last year when she came in as a wildcard and played Maria

:51:57.:52:01.

Sharapova on the Thursday of The Championships and didn't last very

:52:02.:52:04.

long. Back then nobody really remembered the match. Now she is one

:52:05.:52:06.

of the headline acts. This is the type of point that

:52:07.:52:39.

reminds me of Eugenie Bouchard's final here a couple of years ago.

:52:40.:52:42.

Very aggressive at all times. The forehand of Konta has really

:52:43.:52:49.

become a weapon. The black candles -- the back and was always the go to

:52:50.:53:33.

shop, particular crosscourt. APPLAUSE

:53:34.:54:18.

Well, that is the Bouchard brand of tennis, "I'm coming to get you".

:54:19.:54:29.

The key for Bouchard is that she really demands excellent timing when

:54:30.:54:35.

she's playing well, because she really doesn't have a plan B. She

:54:36.:54:41.

likes to hit the ball very early, which demands expert timing.

:54:42.:55:14.

We saw a glimpse of Johanna Konta's coach on the far right, there.

:55:15.:55:22.

Spanish coach. Very good second serve. Very

:55:23.:56:23.

difficult to attack, her second serve. She has beefed up the

:56:24.:56:28.

forehand wing as well in the last 12 months. Not quite up to Serena

:56:29.:56:35.

speeds. Average forehand 74 mph. But not far away. Just lifted up a bit

:56:36.:56:46.

on that one. She is just getting more freedom on that forehand and

:56:47.:56:49.

driving through the point of contact, really committing to the

:56:50.:56:50.

forehand wing. Full of confidence after a semifinal

:56:51.:57:19.

run down at the Aegon Championships last week in her hometown of

:57:20.:57:25.

Eastbourne. And a very different player to the one out on court last

:57:26.:57:27.

year against Maria Sharapova. It has really been stunning to watch

:57:28.:58:01.

the rise of Konta and how strong she is mentally. There is the coach of

:58:02.:58:07.

Eugenie Bouchard. Long-time coach from her teens. He's back!

:58:08.:58:27.

Just bossing Bouchard around with those powerful ground strokes.

:58:28.:59:00.

Really interesting shot selection, there. Took the pace off, and went

:59:01.:59:15.

short, drawing Bouchard forward. She doesn't like to come to the net if

:59:16.:59:19.

it's not on her own terms. Just eight minutes in and Konta already

:59:20.:59:29.

with a look at the Bouchard serve. She started in style.

:59:30.:59:49.

Well, the support camp will be very happy. Her coach on the right, Herb

:59:50.:59:59.

Roy friend. He works for Hawk-Eye, the line calling technology. Her

:00:00.:00:10.

dad, Gabor. Her mum, Gabriella. I'm not sure if she is back in

:00:11.:00:14.

Eastbourne or up in London, but she gets very nervous. Even at

:00:15.:00:17.

Eastbourne she goes back home and watches it on the telly! Towns like

:00:18.:00:21.

Wayne Brian, the Bryan brothers twins, their dad. She doesn't -- he

:00:22.:00:28.

doesn't like to watch it. What about you? I'm not a great watcher but I

:00:29.:00:33.

have to do it, you have to do it for your kid. I was saying that what

:00:34.:00:38.

I've noticed the most, besides the improvement of the forehand of

:00:39.:00:43.

Konta, she's always been a good athlete and had a big serve,

:00:44.:00:48.

terrific backhand. But it's just the boys, the confidence. The belief

:00:49.:00:53.

when she is out on court. Terrific composure. Always positive.

:00:54.:01:02.

Everyone has had a little breather and while Jo is not a household name

:01:03.:01:08.

yet, she is getting there. Interesting also how the narrative

:01:09.:01:54.

has changed in one year. Two years ago Bouchard got to the finals.

:01:55.:02:33.

Now it is Konta with all the eyes on her and the expectations.

:02:34.:03:27.

Bouchard definitely keen to be part of this conversation.

:03:28.:04:27.

She didn't move her feet, Konta. Her feet got stuck. It was interesting

:04:28.:04:41.

that Bouchard got up to number five in the world 2014.

:04:42.:04:52.

She dismissed her coach and her agent.

:04:53.:05:09.

Sometimes when you are 20 and headstrong you think you know best.

:05:10.:05:45.

I think our camp and the people around her should have helped her

:05:46.:05:50.

with that. Things were changing very quickly.

:05:51.:06:18.

Eugenie is a tough cookie. She bounces straight back.

:06:19.:06:35.

It was almost incredible, after making that Wimbledon final, she

:06:36.:06:40.

bounced into the top ten in the world. But the trajectory since then

:06:41.:06:45.

has been downwards. I am not quite sure when she hit rock bottom. Haps

:06:46.:06:51.

it is like my shares last week! She has made a couple of war finals this

:06:52.:06:57.

week, small tour finals and has not done brilliantly. Do you think the

:06:58.:07:04.

share is heading in the right direction? I think our lowest moment

:07:05.:07:09.

was when she went back to playing in her hometown of Montreal. She was

:07:10.:07:13.

losing to Shelby Rogers and in the first set she broke down in tears.

:07:14.:07:17.

Nick came down to talk to her and she said, I don't want to be here.

:07:18.:07:22.

That was very difficult to watch. Last day, I think she started to

:07:23.:07:26.

make headway and played well in the US Open. She fell and slipped in the

:07:27.:07:32.

locker room. She had concussion and had to pull out of the US Open and

:07:33.:07:36.

really never recovered the rest of the year. On her way back I think

:07:37.:07:39.

now. It all gets rather complicated these

:07:40.:09:02.

days. The umpire overruled the out call and then Bouchard then took on

:09:03.:09:07.

the umpire and was wrong. Now she gets a first serve.

:09:08.:09:44.

Nice. CHEERING

:09:45.:09:50.

The perfect time for a drop shot. Excellent job from Bouchard to get

:09:51.:10:01.

away from that serve. Great to see Bouchard hit this and

:10:02.:12:04.

immediately move forward. She sees Konta is going with the slice.

:12:05.:12:32.

I don't want to see those type of errors from Konta, on the backhand

:12:33.:12:36.

side when she's not even on move. Normally it is a wing you feel is

:12:37.:13:16.

never going to miss. Very reliable. A couple of loose points from Konta.

:13:17.:14:19.

I wonder if she's feeling the pressure, the first time on Centre

:14:20.:14:21.

Court as favourite. She is having a look.

:14:22.:14:49.

UMPIRE: Ms Khan is challenging the call. The ball was called out. -- Ms

:14:50.:14:57.

Konta. Replay the point. UMPIRE: Ms Bouchard is challenging

:14:58.:15:18.

the call. The ball was called out. Two pieces of files. If that. We

:15:19.:15:44.

could not imagine tennis without it now on the big courts. We are so

:15:45.:15:46.

spoilt. Tracy, what is happening out here?

:15:47.:16:18.

That was a bad miss. It is a high-quality second-round

:16:19.:17:07.

match. Bouchard is back to her best and hit a 5-2 lead in this first

:17:08.:17:11.

set. SUE BARKER: So, Konta, the 16th seed

:17:12.:17:17.

in real trouble on Centre Court. And news that another seed is in trouble

:17:18.:17:22.

out on Court Number Two. We have already lost 16 seeds so far today.

:17:23.:17:29.

But I'd mess go right there, who is playing the teenager out on Court

:17:30.:17:36.

Number Two, she is a break of serve down in the third set. -- Agnieszka

:17:37.:17:47.

Radwanska. It is all happening on this busy day at Wimbledon. Over on

:17:48.:17:54.

Court Number One, it is Dominic Thiem, the eighth seed. He has

:17:55.:17:56.

dropped the opening set to Jiri Vesely. Dominic Thiem has been an

:17:57.:18:05.

amazing form all summer at the French Open. He is in trouble on

:18:06.:18:10.

Court Number One. You can see that on the website, the app and collect

:18:11.:18:18.

connected TV. And Andrea Petkovic of Germany was defeated by Elena

:18:19.:18:24.

Vesnina of Russia who is ranked 50 in the world. 16 seeds have gone out

:18:25.:18:30.

so far today and more seeds in trouble all around Wimbledon. What a

:18:31.:18:35.

story it has been. Back we go to centre.

:18:36.:19:02.

Pressure and expectations can do funny things to your game. Just ask

:19:03.:19:06.

Genie Bouchard. A great rebound there. And so often,

:19:07.:19:26.

the pressure will affect our footwork will stop.

:19:27.:19:47.

UMPIRE: Correction, ball was good. Ms Bouchard is challenging the call

:19:48.:19:57.

on the right baseline. The ball was called in.

:19:58.:20:11.

Replay the point. They will have to replay the point because Bouchard

:20:12.:20:17.

hit it back. It's great David the net. -- it scraped over the net.

:20:18.:20:27.

Everyone is edgy out there. We are pretty relaxed in the commentary

:20:28.:20:31.

box! I feel the nerves for the young ladies.

:20:32.:20:41.

I think nerves play a big part in the match.

:20:42.:22:16.

So, the British number one, who came here as a 14-year-old to Britain,

:22:17.:22:40.

initially her parents moved to Canary Wharf, but they decided after

:22:41.:22:44.

the beaches of Sydney it was nice to go to the south coast of Eastbourne.

:22:45.:22:56.

She is pushing back here against Canada's best player.

:22:57.:23:23.

A very solid performance from Bouchard. Playing very well within

:23:24.:23:34.

herself. A good margin on her shots. Watching this, Tracy, I feel we have

:23:35.:23:36.

scrolled back to 2014. Not allowing herself to be pushed

:23:37.:23:47.

back at all. A short backswing. The Canadian does it in style. She

:23:48.:24:19.

takes the first set in just over half an hour by six games to three.

:24:20.:25:28.

And that to me, Tracy, looks like a decent set of numbers on the

:25:29.:25:37.

left-hand side. Bouchard being aggressive, winning five of six at

:25:38.:25:41.

the net. Coming in at the appropriate moments. 83% of her

:25:42.:25:47.

first serves in and she is going pretty big. That is impressive.

:25:48.:25:56.

Winning two of the three points. She has had the opportunity to break.

:25:57.:26:32.

Konta put up a racket in the middle of that point but did not verbally

:26:33.:26:36.

they challenge. I have a feeling you were the only

:26:37.:26:45.

person around the court that saw it! Such a strong second serve. 100 mph.

:26:46.:28:03.

And mixing it up beautifully. A lot of opponents over the last year say

:28:04.:28:07.

they cannot read the second serve. It was interesting, a friend of mine

:28:08.:29:21.

who is here today, a sport psychologist, he also visits

:29:22.:29:30.

captains of industry, businesses, he is a big friend of Esteban, her

:29:31.:29:34.

tennis coach, he actually visited her law firm and she said he was

:29:35.:29:41.

fascinating to listen to and he very much models his psychology on that

:29:42.:29:46.

of Doctor Steve Peters, a very famous sports psychologist in this

:29:47.:29:47.

country. It is exactly what you were saying,

:29:48.:30:02.

it is about not allowing your emotions to take over your rational

:30:03.:30:03.

mind. Very difficult. Konta handled beautifully in the

:30:04.:30:42.

first round. She had a very tough first-round opponent, Monica of

:30:43.:30:49.

Puerto Rico, just outside of being seeded. Monica Puig also got to the

:30:50.:30:57.

semifinals at Eastbourne, so a good grass court player. Also, Konta had

:30:58.:31:03.

to come back, she had to sleep on the match. She was up and then she

:31:04.:31:07.

had to finish the match on Court Number One. That's always difficult,

:31:08.:31:09.

added nerves. Konta's on-board computer, hard

:31:10.:31:29.

drive, is doing a good job here. A couple of chances to get the early

:31:30.:31:30.

break. APPLAUSE

:31:31.:32:57.

Battle of the forehand shots. I think both players have a more

:32:58.:32:59.

sturdy backhand. Jo's lucky spot, with the aces all

:33:00.:33:41.

tending to hit down that T. Bouchard is needs to start recognising these

:33:42.:33:47.

patterns. UMPIRE: Miss Konta is challenging

:33:48.:33:52.

the call. The ball was called out. Miss Gunter has two challenges

:33:53.:34:35.

remaining. It was Jo who broke in the first set. Was broken back

:34:36.:34:42.

immediately. Looks like that pattern may continue itself in the second.

:34:43.:34:57.

APPLAUSE Well, that must have hit the line.

:34:58.:35:08.

It just checked. So tough when you're swinging so freely to alter

:35:09.:35:11.

your swing path at that point. APPLAUSE

:35:12.:35:29.

It is aggressive stuff. When you think about where Jo must

:35:30.:35:45.

have been mentally after that first set...

:35:46.:35:51.

Especially because her game had deflated to lose it. Picked it up

:35:52.:35:56.

nicely now. Out.

:35:57.:36:06.

UMPIRE: Correction. Deuce. Not for Bouchard, though, who was on

:36:07.:36:32.

top of the point. It will have to be replayed back to deuce. Bouchard has

:36:33.:36:35.

already had a couple of break points in this game.

:36:36.:36:41.

That had a lot of velocity. Really stepped in, good commitment. Just

:36:42.:37:04.

reminding us why she is top 20 in the world these days. Huge game from

:37:05.:37:09.

Konta! She is back in this match. STUDIO

:37:10.:37:26.

And that really was an important hold for the British number one. 3-0

:37:27.:37:32.

up in this second set. Earlier on Centre Court, Andy Murray whistled

:37:33.:37:37.

through his match against Yen-Hsun Lu of Taipei, winning 6-3, 6-2, 6-1.

:37:38.:37:45.

He dropped his opening service game but after that he never looked back.

:37:46.:37:51.

Good to see him back in good form on Centre Court. The crowd absolutely

:37:52.:37:57.

delighted with that performance. And he is through to face John Millman

:37:58.:38:02.

from Brisbane, Australia, who is ranked 67 in the world because he

:38:03.:38:06.

put out Benoit Paire of France, the 26 seed, in four sets. Andy Murray

:38:07.:38:19.

will be facing John Millman. Richard Gasquet, the number seven seed, last

:38:20.:38:25.

year's semifinalist, had a scare, dropping the opening set to Marcel

:38:26.:38:31.

Granollers. Then he came through the next three sets. He goes through to

:38:32.:38:36.

the next round to face Albert Ramos-Vinolas of Spain. A big story

:38:37.:38:41.

brewing on Court Two, because the number three seed is in trouble,

:38:42.:38:48.

Agnieszka Radwanska. We lost Garbine Muguruza earlier and now the

:38:49.:38:52.

18-year-old from Croatia is just two points away from putting out the

:38:53.:38:58.

former finalist. Ana Konjuh, remember the name. We are heading

:38:59.:39:00.

back to Centre Court. COMMENTATOR: Well, it's hard to see

:39:01.:39:23.

Eugenie Bouchard, Canada's best player and first player to make a

:39:24.:39:27.

Grand Slam final, she has not done a lot wrong in this second set. It is

:39:28.:39:32.

Konta who has elevated her game. Come on! The point of the match, for

:39:33.:40:19.

sure. Just belting the ball with accuracy.

:40:20.:40:29.

Might just be point of the women's tournament. Bouchard is back. She

:40:30.:40:37.

likes the grass, she looks comfortable out here. She's very

:40:38.:40:43.

experienced in situations like this, pushing her opponent. Pushing right

:40:44.:40:49.

back on Konta. It's good to see. Great tennis.

:40:50.:40:58.

And very quickly puts the disappointment of not breaking in

:40:59.:41:02.

the last game behind her. Nick is standing up. There is

:41:03.:42:08.

Genie's mum, behind, in the black sweater, Julie.

:42:09.:42:18.

Such a feature of women's tennis now, isn't it? How low they get.

:42:19.:42:42.

Genie firing right back up. Wow! Very solid pass crosscourt and

:42:43.:43:09.

immediately Bouchard moves forward. She hits it early enough that Konta

:43:10.:43:15.

can't cover that down the line. Eight momentum swing back in

:43:16.:43:21.

Bouchard's favour. Seven points in a row, can she make it eight?

:43:22.:43:36.

Bouchard might have actually been able to get that last shot if she

:43:37.:43:39.

hadn't slipped. Konta has saved five of seven break

:43:40.:44:34.

points. Can she save one more? Terrific scrambling from Konta. Nice

:44:35.:46:01.

dipping pass as well. Well, Andy Murray, the men's British number one

:46:02.:46:07.

was out here earlier for this match, the crowd didn't really need to

:46:08.:46:11.

invest quite as much. They are in Konta.

:46:12.:46:50.

UMPIRE: Miss Konta is challenging the call on the right baseline. The

:46:51.:46:55.

ball was called in. Deuce. These points are so physical.

:46:56.:47:15.

Moving each other... You and I were thinking the same thing, won't we?

:47:16.:47:19.

That challenge was just to give her a breather so she could reset here.

:47:20.:47:28.

These are laser-like shots. About a foot over the net. Very high risk.

:47:29.:48:17.

High quality. CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

:48:18.:49:22.

That is a monster holed from Konta! You really can't take your eyes off

:49:23.:49:25.

this one. STUDIO

:49:26.:49:32.

Well, what a match this is proving to be on Centre Court. The crowd

:49:33.:49:37.

absolutely loving the quality of the tennis right now. Right back on

:49:38.:49:41.

Centre Court in just a moment. It's all happening on Court Two as well,

:49:42.:49:47.

because Ana Konjuh had a couple of match points but Radwanska broke

:49:48.:49:51.

back. Then she broke Radwanska, she is serving for the match against at

:49:52.:49:56.

as you can see it is 0-30. The number three seed is really fighting

:49:57.:50:01.

to stay in the Championship. It is live on the red button if you want

:50:02.:50:05.

to see that. We've already said goodbye to the number two seed,

:50:06.:50:09.

Garbine Muguruza. She was beaten by Jana Cepelova on the Court One. She

:50:10.:50:17.

put Simona Halep out in the first round last year and she has also

:50:18.:50:21.

beaten Serena Williams at Charleston, so she is used to the

:50:22.:50:25.

giant-killing. Today she has put out last year's finalist. We have lost

:50:26.:50:33.

16 seeds today so a lot for Clare Balding and her guests to talk about

:50:34.:50:40.

on Today At Wimbledon. A little later than usual. A lot to talk

:50:41.:50:47.

about there. We've got about ten minutes to go here on BBC Two before

:50:48.:50:51.

we say goodbye, but we will be saying with -- staying with the

:50:52.:50:55.

Centre Court match if you want to continue watching it, on BBC Four.

:50:56.:50:58.

That is in about ten minutes's time. Really impressive the way that Konta

:50:59.:51:44.

has come on and brought her game back together in this second set.

:51:45.:51:53.

The crowd just starting to understand just how tough the

:51:54.:53:06.

British number one is, as she serves to level up this second round match.

:53:07.:53:24.

APPLAUSE That, in my opinion, is a

:53:25.:53:34.

consequence of the great defence from Konta. Bouchard could see Konta

:53:35.:53:41.

scrambling to the backhand wing and tried to make it too fine. Well,

:53:42.:53:49.

this match just going into its second hour. From the word go, these

:53:50.:53:52.

two have not missed a beat out here. He knows what it's like playing

:53:53.:55:24.

Wimbledon. He made the fourth round himself, back in the day.

:55:25.:55:46.

Timing that return so well. She stands so close to the baseline, she

:55:47.:55:57.

really demands excellent eye hand from herself. She hasn't been able

:55:58.:56:02.

to convert. That is seven from nine from Konta.

:56:03.:56:28.

I was waiting for you, Tracy, you are keeping an eye on the break

:56:29.:56:32.

points? Having a little chill out, there? Konta has faced more!

:56:33.:56:56.

Just too good. Going up the T a lot on that serve. She splits and moves

:56:57.:57:11.

a half step to her right, expecting that. But that wacko tennis was too

:57:12.:57:14.

accurate. Well, she has looked straight up at

:57:15.:57:49.

her player box. Challenge. First double fault. Which is pretty

:57:50.:57:55.

amazing, as she goes through so much on her second serve. Mixes it around

:57:56.:57:57.

nicely to different locations. STUDIO

:57:58.:58:17.

Well, I'm afraid here on BBC Two we have to leave this match at this

:58:18.:58:21.

crucial stage of the second set. What we are going to move our

:58:22.:58:25.

coverage over to BBC Four, so you will see the conclusion of this

:58:26.:58:30.

match over on BBC Four. If you want to tune into the highlights

:58:31.:58:38.

programme, that is another later time of 9:30pm. So much to go

:58:39.:58:43.

through. You can catch up with all the news of the day. We have lost 16

:58:44.:58:50.

seeds on a very busy day here at Wimbledon. For now, goodbye.

:58:51.:58:52.
