Grey skies, heavy cloud, a bit of a chill and the inevitable rain has

:00:43.:00:50.

made Wimbledon 2016 a little bit frustrating though far. But despite

:00:51.:00:54.

the bad weather and the lack of blue skies, there has been a big ray of

:00:55.:00:57.

sunshine. COMMENTATOR: Roger versus Marcus.

:00:58.:01:07.

David versus Goliath! To share a god with Roger Federer, what a joy. --

:01:08.:01:16.

share a court. Here we go. Marcus Willis can take great pride in

:01:17.:01:21.

reaching the second round and his plucky performance in defeat to

:01:22.:01:24.

arguably the greatest player of all time is a match that will live long

:01:25.:01:31.

in the memory. So, as the world number 772's adventures come to an

:01:32.:01:35.

end here at Wimbledon, once again Britain's hopes rest with the world

:01:36.:01:39.

number two, who always seems to shine on Centre court.

:01:40.:01:53.

He has never lost an opening match at Wimbledon, Andy Murray.

:01:54.:02:09.

COMMENTATOR: Job done for Andy Murray. He looks comfortable out

:02:10.:02:17.

there. Yeah, Murray is on a mission because

:02:18.:02:35.

he comes here to try and win Wimbledon, to try and find a way to

:02:36.:02:40.

beat that man, Novak Djokovic, who holds all four Grand Slam titles.

:02:41.:02:44.

This is the scene at Wimbledon at the moment. I'm pleased to say that

:02:45.:02:49.

play is under way, although you probably noticed a view umbrella is

:02:50.:02:53.

up, a few spots of rain around and some of the not too happy about

:02:54.:02:58.

being asked to play on. But at the moment it is OK and play is

:02:59.:03:02.

continuing on all courts at the moment. Well, maybe not, not on

:03:03.:03:07.

Centre Court! They are playing on the courts. I'm hearing they're not

:03:08.:03:13.

going to close the roof but they are holding the players down at Centre

:03:14.:03:16.

Court and preparing to put the covers on. But there are some

:03:17.:03:23.

players playing on on the outer courts. It will be one of those

:03:24.:03:26.

days, some sunshine and showers throughout the afternoon. Good

:03:27.:03:32.

afternoon and after all the excitement yesterday on Centre Court

:03:33.:03:35.

of seeing Marcus Willis take on the great man, Roger Federer, we return

:03:36.:03:39.

to Centre Court, where once again there is plenty of British interest.

:03:40.:03:48.

Britain's main man, Andy Murray, is back in action. He has never lost in

:03:49.:03:56.

the second round. He is up against Yen-Hsun Lu, who has beaten him

:03:57.:04:01.

before and is a former quarterfinalist. Johanna Konta is

:04:02.:04:06.

the second instalment of the British double-header on Centre Court. She

:04:07.:04:09.

plays former runner-up Eugenie Bouchard. Forgotten man Grigor

:04:10.:04:18.

Dimitrov returns to the limelight, hoping to spring a shock over Simon.

:04:19.:04:25.

After a stuttering start, Garbine Muguruza will aim for more steady

:04:26.:04:31.

progress in round two. Rising star Dominic Thiem reached the French

:04:32.:04:37.

Open semifinal. Can he keep up his fine form? Third seed Agnieszka

:04:38.:04:43.

Radwanska plays the promising teenager Ana Konjuh. What a line-up

:04:44.:04:51.

we have on the show courts today. The first match is already under

:04:52.:04:56.

way, the fifth seed, Kei Nishikori, taking on Julien Benneteau of

:04:57.:05:00.

France. Then it is Andy Murray, and then Johanna Konta completes the

:05:01.:05:04.

line-up on Centre Court. They have the roof there, so they don't mind

:05:05.:05:08.

too much about the weather, but on Court One they will certainly be

:05:09.:05:13.

worried. Grigor Dimitrov has started his match against Gilles Simon.

:05:14.:05:20.

Dominic Thiem playing another rising star, 22-year-old Jiri Vesely. We

:05:21.:05:27.

will be keeping an eye on Radwanska's match. Milos Raonic has

:05:28.:05:30.

a tough opener against Andreas Seppi. Richard Gasquet against

:05:31.:05:32.

Marcel Granollers. Well, two results to bring you

:05:33.:05:42.

involving British players and first the good news. Dan Evans, a

:05:43.:05:45.

wonderful performance from him on Court Two, putting out the 30th seed

:05:46.:05:55.

Alexandr Dolgopolov in straight sets. Now he has put out Dolgopolov

:05:56.:06:04.

and waiting for him in the first -- next round, guess who? Roger

:06:05.:06:11.

Federer! Not such good news I'm afraid for Heather Watson. She has

:06:12.:06:16.

gone out, beaten by Annika Beck. A real battle on Court 12 and she had

:06:17.:06:21.

match points, she had 0-40 on the Annika Beck serve but she went out

:06:22.:06:26.

12-10. These were the sort of rallies they were hitting all the

:06:27.:06:29.

way through this match. Their styles so similar. But Beck coming out on

:06:30.:06:36.

top. Huge disappointment for Britain's Heather Watson, who had

:06:37.:06:39.

such a wonderful Wimbledon last year. We all remember that match

:06:40.:06:43.

against Serena Williams, but she came to point away from winning it.

:06:44.:06:47.

Disappointment this year, she is out in the opening round.

:06:48.:06:52.

Well, we've had lovely weather right the way through the morning and

:06:53.:07:00.

indeed sunshine for the players. They did start earlier here at

:07:01.:07:03.

Wimbledon, they're trying to play catch up. Still some first round

:07:04.:07:09.

matches needing to be completed. Whoa! Where are we going? They are

:07:10.:07:14.

catching up with that but we want a full day's played. I know Carol will

:07:15.:07:20.

have the answer. Well, we had a shower at Heathrow is a few hours

:07:21.:07:26.

ago which was heavy and we just got the edge of that coming past. We're

:07:27.:07:32.

not out of the woods yet with showers this afternoon but there is

:07:33.:07:37.

a chance we will stay dry. If we don't see a shower by about four

:07:38.:07:42.

5pm, the risk diminishes. Much milder than it was yesterday too.

:07:43.:07:47.

For tomorrow, rain first thing but by the time play gets under way, it

:07:48.:07:51.

should be drying up. There is the risk of a shower but a greater

:07:52.:07:56.

chance we will stay dry and miss most of those showers. A change in

:07:57.:08:00.

the forecast for Saturday, a positive change in fact. We were

:08:01.:08:04.

expecting a larger risk of showers and if you caught one it was likely

:08:05.:08:09.

to be heavy, but now that risk has diminished a touch. So some good

:08:10.:08:14.

news on the horizon, Sue. We need some good news after the last three

:08:15.:08:18.

days, Carol! It has been a dismal start and lovely to see some

:08:19.:08:21.

sunshine earlier on and hopefully more to follow. Thanks very much,

:08:22.:08:26.

Carol. Before we head over to Court One, we can update you with what is

:08:27.:08:32.

happening elsewhere. Venus Williams, five-time winner, up against Maria

:08:33.:08:35.

Sicario, a qualifier making her Wimbledon debut. -- Maria Sakkari.

:08:36.:08:46.

Venus has dropped her serve in the second set after taking the first

:08:47.:08:52.

set. You can watch that Madge on BBC Two. On Court three, Milos Raonic

:08:53.:08:58.

has just taken the first set in just under an hour against Andreas Seppi

:08:59.:09:04.

of Italy, 7-6. That match available online, on the website, on the app

:09:05.:09:09.

and connected TV. Raonic, find a list at Queen's and expected to go

:09:10.:09:12.

deep in the tournament, has taken the first set on Court three. We are

:09:13.:09:17.

heading to Court One to see Grigor Dimitrov, the former semifinalist

:09:18.:09:22.

here, against Gilles Simon, who was a quarterfinalist here before. He

:09:23.:09:29.

has taken the first set and found some form. It is 2-2 in the second

:09:30.:09:35.

set. Let's join Tim Henman and Nick Mullins, watching this one.

:09:36.:09:40.

COMMENTATOR: And it's been good fun to watch, so far. A couple of

:09:41.:09:49.

players who know how to go deep into the second week of this tournament

:09:50.:09:54.

battling it out in the second round here. Jill

:09:55.:09:56.

APPLAUSE Oh yes! This has been very watchable

:09:57.:10:23.

tennis. TIM HENMAN: It certainly has. Good awareness from Dimitrov,

:10:24.:10:29.

he played the short slice and then followed the ball in when he knew

:10:30.:10:34.

Simon was going to have to chip up. Then put the forehand away. Second

:10:35.:10:44.

serve at 15-13. Will he look to be aggressive. -- 15-30.

:10:45.:10:54.

If there has been one shot that, if Dimitrov could polish, he would do,

:10:55.:11:14.

it's been that backhand. Percentage of those unforced errors largely off

:11:15.:11:15.

the backhand as well. Oh! Is a one hand that didn't work,

:11:16.:11:38.

followed by one that most definitely did. Yet, certainly got lucky there.

:11:39.:11:46.

Simon left with very little option after the net cord from Dimitrov. He

:11:47.:11:51.

certainly chose the right time, Simon. Closed in -- chose the right

:11:52.:11:58.

time. Simon closed in on the net and he flicked the lob.

:11:59.:12:18.

A little bit half-hearted. He sort of was hoping he could get a

:12:19.:12:27.

forehand and was a little bit late moving. Never really got into

:12:28.:12:30.

position and then once he has that far outside the court, only one shot

:12:31.:12:32.

left. Well, Dimitrov's backhand has been a

:12:33.:12:50.

bit flaky. We've admired the double fisted backhand of the Frenchman. He

:12:51.:12:54.

doesn't invite the ball onto the court, he commands it, as he did

:12:55.:12:56.

just then. APPLAUSE

:12:57.:13:15.

A moment of opportunity for the Bulgarian. But the Frenchman leads.

:13:16.:13:24.

It's a match that started yesterday evening but went just a dozen

:13:25.:13:31.

minutes before that light drizzle that started to fall at around

:13:32.:13:36.

6:15pm, 6:30pm, pushed them off court. They try to go again but then

:13:37.:13:42.

the rain came again and they packed their bags. They have come back out

:13:43.:13:51.

today. Had a little shower about ten minutes ago, which has slicked up

:13:52.:13:58.

the court a bit. Dimitrov has been on his skates, chasing down balls.

:13:59.:14:05.

But it is fascinating to watch this man, semifinalist here as recently

:14:06.:14:09.

as a couple of years ago, 2014. But he is right now in the mix of a

:14:10.:14:15.

fairly mystifying slump. Down to 37th in the world rankings and

:14:16.:14:19.

finding wins hard to come by. But he's playing with some confidence.

:14:20.:14:24.

He's playing some great tennis but as you say, the rankings don't lie.

:14:25.:14:29.

When you see him constructing points and serving aggressively and using

:14:30.:14:33.

all his skills, it's pretty amazing to think that he is 37 in the world.

:14:34.:14:38.

He should be a good 25 spots higher than that. Definitely a top 15

:14:39.:14:42.

player, in my mind. Ended a depressing run of six

:14:43.:15:00.

straight defeats stretching back to May when he beat the qualifier Bjorn

:15:01.:15:10.

Fratangelo on Monday. Hoping very much that he can get back contract

:15:11.:15:16.

and he has turned the corner. We get all these statistics in front of us

:15:17.:15:20.

and it amazes me and this is probably part of the problem for

:15:21.:15:24.

Dimitrov, that he serve as well as he does and in the tournament he has

:15:25.:15:29.

hit 78 first serves and he has served and volleyed once.

:15:30.:15:36.

And every time... Every time he has hit a slow serve out wide to Simon's

:15:37.:15:46.

forehand, he just chips it back. If you know the guy is going to chip it

:15:47.:15:50.

back, it's an open invitation to serve and volley.

:15:51.:15:57.

Doesn't need to serve and volley all the time, but it would just add that

:15:58.:16:05.

little bit of variation and make his opponent think. Whereas if you stay

:16:06.:16:09.

back every time, you're giving your opponent a big target. If it is an

:16:10.:16:16.

instinctive thing, which it isn't with Dimitrov, how do you develop

:16:17.:16:21.

that? You have to practice it on the practice court. No use coming out on

:16:22.:16:26.

the match court and saying I'm going to suddenly start to serve and

:16:27.:16:29.

volley. That is obviously where a coach can have an important part to

:16:30.:16:31.

play. Still parts of his game that are in

:16:32.:16:53.

fine fettle right now. Again, not the worst approach shot in the world

:16:54.:16:55.

but some phenomenal passing shots. APPLAUSE

:16:56.:17:31.

Well, he's pressing here. Again, patient, aggressive hitting. Waiting

:17:32.:17:36.

for the right ball. Looking to move forward when he gets the chance,

:17:37.:17:38.

from the baseline. UMPIRE: Mr Simon is challenging the

:17:39.:18:44.

call on the right baseline. The ball was called in. I wouldn't say we had

:18:45.:18:48.

the best advantage point, but this looks pretty tight. He's not

:18:49.:18:56.

entirely sure about this decision. I think this might have caught the

:18:57.:18:57.

back edge. Yes... As soon as he decided to

:18:58.:19:08.

appeal, I think he thought, are you absolutely sure about that, Gilles?

:19:09.:19:16.

And now a bit of muttering. Two break points down.

:19:17.:19:40.

Oh! He came to the net... Dimitrov, and it needed to be brilliant to

:19:41.:19:46.

pass him and it was. Dimitrov obviously lost the point,

:19:47.:19:57.

but this is a good move. Good approach shot, asked the question.

:19:58.:20:03.

Simon down to break points, he doesn't want to have to hit too many

:20:04.:20:05.

passing shots like that. Oh! Wow! He stopped it dead. And at

:20:06.:20:55.

the end of a marathon rally, what a touch. What touch.

:20:56.:21:00.

As soon as he hit this shot, I so nearly said, what a stupid shot. And

:21:01.:21:12.

there it lands, three feet from the net, on the sideline for the perfect

:21:13.:21:16.

drop shot and gives him the break of serve. Well, it is a contest that

:21:17.:21:25.

has got better and better over the last hour or so. It was high-quality

:21:26.:21:29.

from the start, but it really is very watchable right now. And that

:21:30.:21:34.

has really got to be the nuts and bolts of Dimitrov's game. He's got

:21:35.:21:39.

variation, he's a good athlete. Stayed in the rally and it was

:21:40.:21:43.

obviously a stunning shot to finish, but 28 shots in waiting for the

:21:44.:21:47.

right moment. You can see what that meant to him. You can also see him

:21:48.:21:53.

back off as he hit it, he was probably thinking what you were

:21:54.:21:57.

thinking, and then all of a sudden it lands on the right side. Here is

:21:58.:22:05.

the world number 37, having been as high as number eight. Having been to

:22:06.:22:11.

the semifinal here, he ended the reign of the defending champion Andy

:22:12.:22:14.

Murray in emphatic fashion, straight sets. Then he was knocked out by

:22:15.:22:20.

Novak Djokovic. This is an interesting moment in the match.

:22:21.:22:26.

Ranked 37 playing the 16th seed. You could say that Dimitrov comes in

:22:27.:22:31.

pretty relaxed, not expecting to win. He has a losing head-to-head

:22:32.:22:36.

record. That's the easy bit, with nothing to lose, now up a set and a

:22:37.:22:40.

break and you have got something to lose. Let's see how he reacts.

:22:41.:22:50.

He's got new balls, so they fly through the air just a little bit

:22:51.:22:57.

quicker. Not that they needed any more encouragement. Dimitrov has

:22:58.:23:01.

been walloping his serves down at 130 mph.

:23:02.:24:22.

Gilles Simon has been one of those motorway drivers who sticks at a

:24:23.:24:42.

steady 68, 69, 70. Dimitrov has been one of those who travels at 40,

:24:43.:24:48.

sometimes 50, occasionally 100! And the Frenchman has found that tough

:24:49.:24:52.

to deal with that times. Are you trying to say Dimitrov breaks the

:24:53.:24:54.

law? CHUCKLES

:24:55.:24:55.

I get your point. Simon, quarterfinalist last summer.

:24:56.:25:31.

He can draw on all that experience now, all the experience that his 31

:25:32.:25:36.

years have given him. A deep breath, 30-30.

:25:37.:25:42.

Dramatic moment for it to start to rain.

:25:43.:26:12.

APPLAUSE Is a long point in the drizzle goes

:26:13.:26:25.

the way of the Frenchman. So often in this match so far we have seen

:26:26.:26:29.

Dimitrov looking to pull the trigger when he gets the chance, but down a

:26:30.:26:36.

set and a break, Simon realises he's got to be a bit more proactive.

:26:37.:26:41.

Once again it is the backhand that is his undoing.

:26:42.:27:15.

Yes, needed three and a half hours and recovered from losing the first

:27:16.:27:20.

set to beat Yank -- Janko Tipsarevic in the first

:27:21.:27:32.

round. Happy to report that so far today no repeat of the service yet

:27:33.:27:42.

that blighted him at Queen's. -- the service yips. Here is Simon, back on

:27:43.:27:48.

serve, 4-4. A great quality point on the back of

:27:49.:28:20.

a very disappointing service game. Obviously, up a set and a break,

:28:21.:28:28.

that's when you really want to stab your authority. A couple of unforced

:28:29.:28:32.

errors, but that was the response. -- stamp your authority.

:28:33.:28:38.

We were right behind that and I thought I saw a little bit of

:28:39.:28:46.

dust... As we check the monitor in our commentary box. Just long.

:28:47.:30:12.

Just a little bit of a hint in the middle of that, the service toss

:30:13.:30:45.

issues which dogged him at Queen's were peaking around the corner but

:30:46.:30:49.

he managed to sort himself out. A great run to the last eight. He

:30:50.:30:59.

eventually succumbed to Roger Federer but confirmation of what he

:31:00.:31:05.

can do on this surface. He is a top, top operator. I think the last

:31:06.:31:09.

couple of games were a classic example of what we were talking

:31:10.:31:14.

about Simon's level has not really changed. He has been at seven, seven

:31:15.:31:25.

.5 out of ten. For a centre break, Dimitrov was that 8.5, nine, and

:31:26.:31:27.

then all of a sudden, that service game probably dropped to a five.

:31:28.:31:33.

There seemed to be a real command to get to a two sets to love lead. It

:31:34.:31:45.

is very easy to doubt yourself, second-guess yourself, change your

:31:46.:31:45.

shot selection at the last second. We should check the installation in

:31:46.:32:19.

our commentary box. You said you would like to see him head into the

:32:20.:32:23.

net a bit more and that is what he has been doing.

:32:24.:32:44.

Simon has won three games in a row. Could make it four.

:32:45.:36:16.

Well played. Simon got away with a streaky return but Dimitrov finishes

:36:17.:36:26.

of the point. There is a man absolutely determined

:36:27.:37:12.

to get the return on the forehand and he ended up paying the price.

:37:13.:37:35.

He doubles his ace count in this match to two.

:37:36.:38:21.

UMPIRE: Mr Dimitrov is challenging the call on the right baseline. The

:38:22.:38:24.

ball was called out. Even when the ball is not in play,

:38:25.:39:06.

Gilles Simon has provided plenty of entertainment.

:39:07.:39:31.

Given the circumstances and the guy is struggling with his ball toss,

:39:32.:40:01.

5-5 second set, that is a weak unforced error. Rallying shots

:40:02.:40:04.

shouldn't be anywhere near the net. He's in his 30s now. One of a record

:40:05.:41:20.

number of thirtysomethings in this yearmen's draw. 49 doing great

:41:21.:41:32.

things. 49 is the record from the open era from 1968 when the game

:41:33.:41:36.

allowed professionals to play as well. It is not quite the record.

:41:37.:41:41.

There were 51 of them at Roland Garros last month. The game is

:41:42.:41:46.

getting older, Tim. It certainly is. The longevity of the players has

:41:47.:41:52.

increased. Is it to do with training techniques, the injury prevention?

:41:53.:41:55.

Is it that players are coming on the tour later and it is taking them

:41:56.:42:09.

longer to mature, said not necessarily starting at the top of

:42:10.:42:12.

their game at such a young age? Probably a combination of

:42:13.:42:13.

everything. I remember playing Davis Cup in

:42:14.:44:01.

Morocco, Greg was it the hate a big return. The other player took his

:44:02.:44:04.

eye off the ball as it was going into the stands. As he got the ball

:44:05.:44:10.

from the ball kid, it hit him on the head!

:44:11.:44:37.

He holds on. We are heading towards a second set tie-break.

:44:38.:44:53.

Where is the balance of power? It looked like Dimitrov might be taking

:44:54.:44:59.

control. It looked close from where we were.

:45:00.:45:30.

Not an easy job calling these balls when they are so close to the line.

:45:31.:45:37.

It is wide. Fascinating to see Dimitrov just changing the pace on

:45:38.:46:46.

the ball, slowing it down. It was a good tactic when Dimitrov is playing

:46:47.:46:50.

the slice down the line to Simon's forehand. It stays low. Simon is not

:46:51.:46:56.

good at generating his own pace. He goes across court and that goes into

:46:57.:47:00.

Dimitrov's strength. It was on the line. He is saying I

:47:01.:47:42.

know it is on the line but I want a break!

:47:43.:48:20.

Two mini-breaks now. The 16th seed is in danger of going two sets to

:48:21.:48:27.

love down. A change of ends after a dozen

:48:28.:49:40.

points. Dimitrov with two mini-breaks. He has a reassuringly

:49:41.:49:46.

thick insurance policy here. Big, big problems for the 16th seed.

:49:47.:51:20.

SUE BARKER: Dimitrov totally in control on Court Number One against

:51:21.:51:24.

Simon. We are going to leave this match because we are going to head

:51:25.:51:29.

over to Centre Court. If you want to continue, you can. It is on the red

:51:30.:51:33.

button. There are 15 matches available online, on the app and an

:51:34.:51:38.

connected TV. Venus Williams is in trouble on Court 18. We are heading

:51:39.:51:45.

straight over to Centre Court. There is some lovely tennis being played

:51:46.:51:50.

here between Kei Nishikori the number five seed, against Julien

:51:51.:51:53.

Benneteau who was attacking all the time. His ranking may have dropped

:51:54.:51:58.

to 547, but he has come here with a protected ranking of 39. He took the

:51:59.:52:07.

first set but Nishikori has just broken in a very long game.

:52:08.:52:10.

Nishikori now a break-up in the second set. Let's join Jim Courier

:52:11.:52:11.

and Andrew Potter. -- Andrew Cotter. ANDREW COTTER: Nishikori was looking

:52:12.:52:36.

more flustered. That might be the turnaround he needs, Jim?

:52:37.:52:40.

Absolutely. His racket looked to be in peril. He raised it over his head

:52:41.:52:45.

in anger and held onto it. The benefit of a wayward drop shot by

:52:46.:52:49.

Benneteau at deuce. He lifted his spirits but we will

:52:50.:53:04.

see if he lifts his shot selection. He has mostly been attacking into

:53:05.:53:10.

the backhand winner of Julien Benneteau which is far more insecure

:53:11.:53:15.

for him. Centre Court continues to fill up in anticipation of the rest

:53:16.:53:19.

of this match but also I think perhaps the match to follow.

:53:20.:53:38.

The bug -- body language lifts from Nishikori.

:53:39.:55:07.

Benneteau has just thrown in a few more and forced errors of late.

:55:08.:55:13.

Nishikori backs up that break and moves within possibly one game of

:55:14.:56:03.

this second set. You can see him trying to puzzle it out. In this

:56:04.:56:14.

situation you are not allowed coaching. Michael Chang not able to

:56:15.:56:15.

offer any advice. The coach's job is to enable the

:56:16.:56:31.

player to make decisions on the fly. We have talked about the potency of

:56:32.:57:00.

his backhand. The two-handed backhand. Here we are.

:57:01.:58:08.

Benneteau keeps fighting in this second set.

:58:09.:58:20.

Shortly the number five seed to serve for it. A lot of mistakes from

:58:21.:58:27.

both players. There has been some good stuff in as well, in this

:58:28.:58:33.

match, which has been disrupted by a very short shower. Nishikori doing

:58:34.:58:40.

some thinking. When you're out there on your own, your feeling out your

:58:41.:58:48.

opponent and saying this is how I can change, this is what I need to

:58:49.:58:53.

do... I think it may have taken him a bit of time to see what his body

:58:54.:58:58.

would be like today too. In the first round his serves speeds were

:58:59.:59:10.

slower than usual. He had to withdraw in the first round at

:59:11.:59:17.

Halle. He had to withdraw here last year as well, he must be very

:59:18.:59:20.

sensitive to his body at this stage of his career. It seems like his

:59:21.:59:25.

serves speeds are actor normal right now. Maybe he is now turning his

:59:26.:59:29.

attention fully to what is happening on the other side of the net and

:59:30.:59:33.

realising some tactical changes were needed. The winner of this one will

:59:34.:59:39.

play the Russian, Andrey Kuznetsov, who is closing in on victory over

:59:40.:59:43.

Gilles Muller. Both of those players had five set wins in their first

:59:44.:59:52.

round. Particularly Gilles Muller, 15-13 in the fifth against Santiago

:59:53.:59:56.

Giraldo. You can understand a bit of fatigue on his part. Nishikori

:59:57.:00:02.

serving to level things at once set apiece. The big serving lefty Gilles

:00:03.:00:14.

Muller is a rough customer on this surface.

:00:15.:00:28.

APPLAUSE Well, this is Federer's quarter of

:00:29.:00:40.

the draw. If the seedings go according to plan, that is who

:00:41.:00:44.

Nishikori would ultimately come up against.

:00:45.:00:48.

APPLAUSE Although as we've talked about his

:00:49.:01:05.

grass record, his Wimbledon record, not perhaps his finest. But three

:01:06.:01:07.

set points for Nishikori. UMPIRE: Mr Nishikori is challenging

:01:08.:01:55.

the ball on the right centre service line of the ball was called out. A

:01:56.:02:00.

challenge which could bring about the end of this second set... But

:02:01.:02:11.

will not, the ball was well wide. The second set point is saved by

:02:12.:02:20.

Benneteau. 40-30. Mr Nishikori has one challenge remaining.

:02:21.:02:45.

It is wide. Nishikori has it, and the number five seed draws level at

:02:46.:02:53.

a set apiece against Julien Benneteau.

:02:54.:02:57.

STUDIO What a fascinating match this is.

:02:58.:03:02.

One set all on Centre Court and we will be right back with it in just a

:03:03.:03:06.

moment. We will update you on what is happening on court 18, where

:03:07.:03:11.

five-time champion Venus Williams is in trouble against a qualifier from

:03:12.:03:18.

Greece, Maria Sakkari. The five-time champion is in trouble. That is over

:03:19.:03:25.

on BBC Two. And on the red button, this match on Court Number One,

:03:26.:03:30.

Grigor Dimitrov in your picture is in charge. He leads to- -- he leads

:03:31.:03:38.

to sets to love against Gilles Simon. Great news for Britain's Dan

:03:39.:03:44.

Evans, he is through to the third round, beating Alexandr Dolgopolov

:03:45.:03:48.

of Ukraine and putting out the 30 seed in straight sets. He is through

:03:49.:03:52.

to the third round and waiting for him there will be Roger Federer!

:03:53.:03:59.

What a match to look forward to. David Goffin Belgium, the 11th seed,

:04:00.:04:05.

is through, coming through in three sets against Edward Roger-Vasselin

:04:06.:04:16.

-- Edouard Roger-Vasselin of France. David Ferrer is out, another seed.

:04:17.:04:21.

He has lost two Nicolas Mahut, who certainly knows his way around a

:04:22.:04:30.

grass court. The serve-volley came through 6-1, 6-4, 6-3. He will go

:04:31.:04:36.

through to play his doubles partner Pierre-Hugues Herbert in the next

:04:37.:04:40.

round. Disappointment for Britain's Heather Watson, she had match points

:04:41.:04:44.

against German Annika Beck, but went out in the third and final set. A

:04:45.:04:48.

real battle between two players with very similar styles long, hard race

:04:49.:04:53.

line rallies and a real test of stamina. But it is back through,

:04:54.:05:00.

12-10 in the third. Heather Watson's dreams of Wimbledon have faded in

:05:01.:05:05.

the opening round. Number five seed here in your picture, Simona Halep,

:05:06.:05:13.

is through, from Romania. 6-1, 6-1 against 36-year-old Francesca

:05:14.:05:18.

Schiavone of Italy. Sam Anno Halep -- Simona Halep, a semifinalist here

:05:19.:05:24.

last year, through to the next round. Those are some of the results

:05:25.:05:28.

from earlier. We're heading straight back to Centre Court.

:05:29.:05:34.

COMMENTATOR: Interesting to keep an eye on the fitness of Julien

:05:35.:05:45.

Benneteau as well. The man has had so many problems with injuries and

:05:46.:05:52.

34 now, Benneteau. Nishikori, one of the fittest players out there and

:05:53.:05:53.

one of the quickest as well. It has just got a bit darker out

:05:54.:06:16.

there again. Nishikori is 26 years old. He's been

:06:17.:06:56.

on tour a long time. Started young and won his first title early,

:06:57.:06:57.

Delray Beach, as a teenager. Well, it's a good, quick halt by

:06:58.:07:19.

Benneteau to start this third set. As we look into the future, which,

:07:20.:07:25.

sadly at some stage, hopefully not soon, will include a Roger Federer

:07:26.:07:33.

free future for these players. Rafael Nadal will be out here for a

:07:34.:07:37.

while but he is struggling with a wrist injury right now. Who's going

:07:38.:07:42.

to challenge Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray? Is this guy going to be one

:07:43.:07:46.

of them? You look at some of the younger players, Alexander Zverev

:07:47.:07:54.

and Dominic Thiem. In particular Dominic Thiem is starting to make a

:07:55.:07:59.

real move. I would contend that Nishikori is one of the contenders

:08:00.:08:07.

to win majors in the next 5-7 years. He could be a bit like a Stan

:08:08.:08:12.

Wawrinka, takes him a little bit of time. But with a little bit of a

:08:13.:08:18.

different landscape and fewer obstacles in his way, who knows?

:08:19.:08:29.

Again, as you were saying, he needs a good, long run free of injuries as

:08:30.:08:39.

well. He's had his problems. That is the biggest issue for him. Just

:08:40.:08:40.

staying fully fit. As long as he's got that backhand,

:08:41.:08:52.

he might be OK. APPLAUSE

:08:53.:09:16.

Doesn't serve too many aces. That one might have just got a bit of a

:09:17.:09:18.

touch on it from Benneteau. Since 2014 when Nishikori made that

:09:19.:09:50.

terrific run to the US Open final, he lost to Marin Cilic and to

:09:51.:09:55.

fatigue, as he played so many long matches leading into that final, a

:09:56.:10:02.

lot has been expected of him. In the last couple of seasons he hasn't got

:10:03.:10:05.

past a quarterfinal of a slam. Well, once more Benneteau abandons

:10:06.:10:14.

the chase on the drop shot from Nishikori. And Nishikori is once

:10:15.:10:26.

again just changing rackets. We were talking about how often he does

:10:27.:10:32.

that. More so than most players. He will change rackets not just on the

:10:33.:10:37.

change of balls from used to new balls, but he is very finicky with

:10:38.:10:39.

his string tension. Nishikori is one of those players

:10:40.:11:19.

who uses half gut string and half of a poly. Around 50 lbs the difference

:11:20.:11:31.

between the mains and the crosses. 49, 50 one. That is something that

:11:32.:11:35.

has changed over the years in men's tennis as well, string tensions have

:11:36.:11:45.

got progressively lower. You use poly strings to spin the ball. If

:11:46.:11:49.

you want a bit low attention, you get a bit more from the racket, that

:11:50.:11:55.

can do more work for you. Bjorn Borg used to string up on the 80s on a

:11:56.:11:59.

racket much smaller than these and much more wooden.

:12:00.:12:04.

He's gone to the well again. He is a big man, Benneteau. Takes something

:12:05.:12:17.

to get going. We know how much this match means to

:12:18.:12:43.

Benneteau, playing on that protected ranking. Going through to the third

:12:44.:12:47.

round here would be a huge boost. He won't know, but Gilles Muller has

:12:48.:13:10.

gone out, so Andrey Kuznetsov is in the third round, that is the next

:13:11.:13:13.

opponent here, that would just be a massive opponent for Benneteau to

:13:14.:13:18.

reach the fourth round. -- massive opportunity. But he has a lot of

:13:19.:13:26.

work ahead of him if he's going to get into that match-up, of course.

:13:27.:13:38.

It is a hold for Benneteau. Working hard but steering himself safely

:13:39.:13:48.

through another service game. Just an almost imperceptible nod of the

:13:49.:13:52.

head from his younger brother Antoine, now his coach. There he is,

:13:53.:14:01.

bottom right of the picture. He's actually working in the media,

:14:02.:14:06.

college tennis -- played college tennis and then did a bit of work

:14:07.:14:19.

for the L'Equipe, the robust institution of French sport

:14:20.:14:22.

coverage. The Tour de France starts soon, apropos of nothing. All the

:14:23.:14:26.

injury problems we've talked about with Benneteau can he missed last

:14:27.:14:31.

year, played Indian Wells and then had his operation on a hernia. Just

:14:32.:14:35.

coming back from the start of the year on that protected ranking. You

:14:36.:14:40.

get nine tournaments, nine months. He's played if you challenge is,

:14:41.:14:46.

hasn't spent all of his protected ranking points yet, but a good run

:14:47.:14:55.

here would be fantastic. It would be a career extender for him. He still

:14:56.:15:00.

has good opportunities in doubles but for singles, this is a desperate

:15:01.:15:07.

situation here, these next few months he must convert opportunities

:15:08.:15:11.

if he wants to get back on the main stage and have an extended career,

:15:12.:15:16.

otherwise he will most likely be simply resigned to playing doubles,

:15:17.:15:20.

which there is no shame in that, he's had it a thick career, 34 years

:15:21.:15:25.

of age been around a long time. But given the rewards at stake these

:15:26.:15:31.

days, the continued increase in prize money and opportunities, I'm

:15:32.:15:33.

sure he would love that. It has just got a bit flat early in

:15:34.:16:01.

the third set here, a little lack of intensity. The crowd has gone mild,

:16:02.:16:03.

I would say. It's the type of scenario I didn't

:16:04.:16:24.

like when I was playing, I didn't like to feel like it was a little

:16:25.:16:31.

bit flat in the room, so to speak. You felt like you could get broken

:16:32.:16:38.

if you just take your eye off the ball for a second, things could get

:16:39.:16:39.

out of hand. Oh! Wow. Just stretched out that

:16:40.:16:55.

giant arm and it was out wide but it felt quite nicely for Benneteau.

:16:56.:17:14.

A hold for Nishikori. The man has never gone too deep at Wimbledon,

:17:15.:17:28.

his best was the last 16 four years ago when he lost to Milos Raonic in

:17:29.:17:33.

straight sets. He has never really fair to well on grass.

:17:34.:17:37.

Quarterfinalist at the Olympics here. Semifinalist at Halle last

:17:38.:17:44.

year, but this will probably be his weakest slam.

:17:45.:17:58.

APPLAUSE Again, finds a wonderful angle off

:17:59.:18:04.

that backhand. APPLAUSE

:18:05.:18:36.

Nishikori actually using one racket to return serve with and another one

:18:37.:18:41.

to serve with. That is the one that he just served with, so what that

:18:42.:18:45.

tells me is that he is playing with different tensions, possibly as a

:18:46.:18:49.

result of that rib injury going with a looser racket to generate more

:18:50.:18:53.

power off the serve, that is my guess. And tighter strings for the

:18:54.:18:59.

ground strokes, here. APPLAUSE

:19:00.:19:05.

Good reach by Benneteau. The tall Frenchman climbed up to that one.

:19:06.:19:39.

It does seem to affect him most, from a velocity standpoint, on the

:19:40.:19:59.

serve. His ground strokes seem to be rather uninhibited. So the tighter

:20:00.:20:04.

strings would make sense. In this scenario. But if you can't touch the

:20:05.:20:12.

ball, it doesn't help you! So evenly matched at the moment. A set apiece,

:20:13.:20:19.

two games all and Benneteau 40-30. He moves ahead 80-79 in total

:20:20.:20:21.

points. So they are all tied now? They are

:20:22.:20:30.

all tied up, is that phrase. An unnecessary mistake from

:20:31.:21:04.

Nishikori as well. And he knows it. We talk about his backhand. His

:21:05.:21:38.

forehand not too shabby on this occasion.

:21:39.:22:02.

So, Benneteau feeling the squeeze again. Nishikori, who went so long

:22:03.:22:11.

in this match without any break points, is beginning to create them,

:22:12.:22:13.

of late. It is long from Benneteau and

:22:14.:22:33.

Nishikori with a cry has the break in this third set. And the number

:22:34.:22:38.

five seed is looking stronger and stronger. Even if he doesn't show

:22:39.:22:45.

it, as he sort of labour is his way to his chair. But he certainly has

:22:46.:22:47.

the upper hand now. Nishikori not one to get too

:22:48.:22:58.

vociferous on the court. He keeps his emotions reasonably and check

:22:59.:23:02.

out there. He is a passionate kid, no question about it. Always been

:23:03.:23:09.

very talented. Left home very early to go to the IMG Academy, Boliteri's

:23:10.:23:21.

famous school. He was listed as the most talented player of his

:23:22.:23:24.

generation by the same coaches that word there when players like Andre

:23:25.:23:31.

Agassi word there. People would ask him who was the best one around and

:23:32.:23:36.

he was the guy. They saw it early, aged 14 or 15. A little bit dark

:23:37.:23:42.

above. Certainly gloomy down here on Centre Court, but we have the magic

:23:43.:23:47.

roof, so we don't care! They've had a couple of showers in this match.

:23:48.:23:55.

They played through one of them, it was so gentle and fleeting. Lovely

:23:56.:23:59.

view high over Wimbledon. You can look all the way over to the City,

:24:00.:24:04.

also soft fun and games going on over there. People filtering around

:24:05.:24:09.

the courtside side. And the chosen few who have tickets for Centre

:24:10.:24:13.

Court today. A few have taken a break just now, I think it's just

:24:14.:24:17.

got a bit more sparse in here. They will come back in for the end of

:24:18.:24:25.

this match. Andy Murray against Yen-Hsun Lu to come after this one.

:24:26.:24:29.

New balls for Kei Nishikori, who has the break.

:24:30.:24:38.

I must admit, I wasn't paying attention, which often happens, but

:24:39.:24:46.

he took his serving racket for this, Kei Nishikori. He did.

:24:47.:24:56.

He quickly put the other one away in his bag.

:24:57.:25:14.

There it is, he brought it out with him so he doesn't have to go back,

:25:15.:25:21.

at the end of this game. Maybe it's his!

:25:22.:25:24.

Just wide. Benneteau imposing himself. Benneteau's backhand just

:25:25.:26:05.

skims the net, it's so low and flat. Perfect for this surface. The ball

:26:06.:26:12.

just skidding through the court. So he is pressing his way back, trying

:26:13.:26:20.

to get onto level terms here. Someone has fallen over, hope it

:26:21.:26:22.

wasn't Bob Willis! Yes, a break point! A break back

:26:23.:26:35.

point for Benneteau. APPLAUSE

:26:36.:27:11.

Well, Benneteau looking plaintively to his support crew. Nothing much

:27:12.:27:12.

they can say. He's had a lot of success with that

:27:13.:27:56.

second serve wide in the juice scored -- in the deuce court.

:27:57.:28:00.

Going wide to the Benneteau forehand.

:28:01.:28:11.

Well, it's a good hold for Nishikori, after being briefly

:28:12.:28:14.

troubled. Some faint shadows starting to

:28:15.:28:27.

appear. You are not alone in the Bob Willis

:28:28.:29:07.

fan club. I loved Headingley 81. That was a ripper of a forehand from

:29:08.:29:46.

Nishikori. That came fizzing back past

:29:47.:30:26.

Benneteau. The Frenchman in bother again.

:30:27.:30:42.

This third set is all Nishikori's now. He has the double break and he

:30:43.:30:51.

will serve for this third set. He always looks rather weary as he

:30:52.:30:55.

makes his way to the change of ends, but he is in a grand position now.

:30:56.:31:03.

You look at a third-round opponent, it is Kuznetsov now, not too bad at

:31:04.:31:08.

all. He is the number five seed. You would expect him to move through

:31:09.:31:12.

possibly Roger Federer later on. But we must stress he does not have a

:31:13.:31:22.

great record at Wimbledon, Nishikori. There is a good chance if

:31:23.:31:25.

he is hell and hearty after his rib problem, there is a good chance for

:31:26.:31:28.

him. There is the chance of a rematch with the finalist from the

:31:29.:31:36.

previous year, Marin Cilic. Nishikori has a great record against

:31:37.:31:42.

him. This service would be a better one for the Croat. He doesn't give

:31:43.:31:51.

away match, Nishikori. I would not want to play poker against him. I

:31:52.:31:57.

wouldn't play against anybody, I do not know how to play poker. I am

:31:58.:32:06.

aware it is the American national sport. It is card related, I am

:32:07.:32:12.

aware of that. All this chat could be a massive hustle on my part for

:32:13.:32:17.

the game we are going to have later on this evening. I don't know what

:32:18.:32:23.

you are talking about. This often happens. Nishikori to serve for this

:32:24.:32:26.

third set. Talking about Nishikori seeming to

:32:27.:33:27.

be fine and looking healthy, we understand he has called for the

:33:28.:33:28.

trainer at the change of ends. This is far from convincing serving

:33:29.:34:21.

for the set. A rather sorry game from Kei

:34:22.:34:53.

Nishikori. It was only serve that he was most

:34:54.:35:09.

troubled in that round match with the rib problem which surfaced in

:35:10.:35:15.

Haller. Benneteau doing all he can to hang

:35:16.:36:20.

on into the set. He was not terribly engaged.

:36:21.:36:48.

Benneteau holds to love. Nishikori will have another chance to serve

:36:49.:36:53.

for the set, but it will come after a bit of video, a bit of treatment.

:36:54.:37:04.

-- physio. That is one of the ATP Tour trainers on Court taking a look

:37:05.:37:09.

at the red area and all these strapping that they have won there.

:37:10.:37:14.

It looks like they will loosen it up a little bit. The tape they put on

:37:15.:37:20.

there to try and promote Ludlow for the players. It should ease a little

:37:21.:37:24.

bit of the pain. It seems like it was just a quick snip and he was

:37:25.:37:31.

gone. It was just a pair of scissors. I thought it would be more

:37:32.:37:37.

treatment than that. Apps it was not bothering him that much, just a bit

:37:38.:37:42.

tight. -- perhaps it was not bothering him that much. I was

:37:43.:37:46.

looking at the Serbs. He tosses the ball up and his left arm extends and

:37:47.:37:51.

it does not look like he was getting the same type of lean back -- I was

:37:52.:38:00.

looking at the serves. It would make sense. He might try some Michael

:38:01.:38:02.

Chang under arms serving! Moving on forcefully now, Kei

:38:03.:38:15.

Nishikori. He has the set, Kei Nishikori. He

:38:16.:40:33.

leads by two sets to one. We are going to quickly have a challenge

:40:34.:40:38.

here from Julien Benneteau but it is a challenge sitting down. He thinks

:40:39.:40:43.

it is good, and it is. Nishikori is in front.

:40:44.:40:49.

SUE BARKER: That challenge was a bit of wishful thinking on Benneteau's

:40:50.:40:54.

part. It is Nishikori who is two sets to one up. We will be back on

:40:55.:41:00.

centre in a moment. Over on Court Number One, this is a match you can

:41:01.:41:06.

see on BBC Two. It was Grigor Dimitrov in the first two sets, but

:41:07.:41:11.

Simon has come back to take these third set. It is an serve in the

:41:12.:41:16.

fourth set. You can see that match on BBC Two.

:41:17.:41:22.

And a match just starting on Court 18. Early stages of that, but you

:41:23.:41:35.

can follow that on the red button. A couple of results to bring you.

:41:36.:41:40.

Milos Raonic, the number six seed is safely through against Andreas

:41:41.:41:44.

Seppi. That ace will have pleased his coach, John McEnroe who was

:41:45.:41:51.

courtside. In the next round, he will face Jack Sock of the United

:41:52.:41:57.

States. Disappointment for Britain's Heather

:41:58.:42:01.

Watson. She was locked in battle on Court 12 against any Quebec, a

:42:02.:42:06.

player ranked 12 places above her in the world rankings. -- and the cup

:42:07.:42:15.

back. They have very similar styles -- Annika Beck. Heather Watson went

:42:16.:42:24.

out 12 games to ten in the third set. Disappointment for Heather who

:42:25.:42:29.

had a wonderful Wimbledon last year. Heather has been vocal about the

:42:30.:42:32.

effect of Twitter trolls on her in the past and she talked about it

:42:33.:42:36.

again today and got quite emotional in her press conference after the

:42:37.:42:42.

match. There has been trouble with trolling

:42:43.:42:46.

a nasty stuff on Twitter and do you think today's defeat will lead to

:42:47.:42:51.

more of that? Absolutely. It is funny you say that, because I was

:42:52.:42:55.

just in the changing rooms with Naomi Broady and Tara Moore talking

:42:56.:43:00.

about it. After a loss like this, I am so angry with myself, I feel like

:43:01.:43:08.

I need to punish myself. I do know, because it wasn't a good day, so I

:43:09.:43:12.

just went on Twitter and there was plenty. Did it in some way cheer you

:43:13.:43:22.

up? Definitely not. Why would that cheer me up? People saying nasty

:43:23.:43:27.

things. But you deliberately looked it up. Because I was in a bad mood.

:43:28.:43:32.

It is like when you are in a bad mood and you bang your racket, it is

:43:33.:43:36.

not a positive thing. SUE BARKER: I think the lesson is

:43:37.:43:40.

not to go on Twitter after the match but Heather Watson, a bad day all

:43:41.:43:45.

round for her. We will head back to Centre Court in a moment.

:43:46.:43:56.

One other result to bring you from earlier today. This is good news for

:43:57.:44:01.

Great Britain. Dan Evans has put out Alexandr Dolgopolov in three sets.

:44:02.:44:03.

He did this in the US Open three years ago when he beat Tommy Robredo

:44:04.:44:09.

and Kei Nishikori. He is in the third round of Wimbledon and he is

:44:10.:44:14.

facing a certain Roger Federer. Well done to him today. That is what has

:44:15.:44:20.

been happening elsewhere. You have not missed anything because out on

:44:21.:44:24.

Centre Court Kei Nishikori had left the court. He is making his way

:44:25.:44:30.

back. There he is. We can rejoin Jim and Andy.

:44:31.:44:35.

ANDREW COTTER: We can look at Nishikori's serve. He is able to

:44:36.:44:52.

miss mix it around. JIM Courier: We can see where he is serving.

:44:53.:45:05.

Look what Benneteau is having to do. He is making Nishikori's serve

:45:06.:45:19.

faster as a result of having to take it earlier.

:45:20.:45:31.

Nishikori is getting so much value out of his serve.

:45:32.:46:06.

A wonderful touch again. It is the little flick of the leg after he

:46:07.:46:12.

hits the shots. -- shot. Nishikori really imposing himself

:46:13.:46:37.

now. He has to work hard to finish it off

:46:38.:47:44.

this time, but Nishikori has the break in this fourth set. This time

:47:45.:47:51.

it was not the drop shot which killed off Benneteau. But he had

:47:52.:47:59.

enough on the high overhead backhand and Benneteau now with a huge

:48:00.:48:08.

mountain to climb. The drop shot was read well by Benneteau and he tried

:48:09.:48:14.

to flick one half Nishikori will stop.

:48:15.:48:30.

He seemed little bit beleaguered when he lost that first set.

:48:31.:50:07.

Benneteau has gone into a bit of a slump now. He is upset that the

:50:08.:50:18.

royal box of 70 right now. -- so empty.

:50:19.:50:24.

A waft of the racket from Benneteau and another game goes the way of

:50:25.:50:52.

Nishikori. It is looking pretty good for

:50:53.:50:59.

Nishikori now. A few have slipped away for a

:51:00.:51:06.

moment. Not up. -- not Bob. Benneteau avoids the fate of the

:51:07.:53:23.

double break. The sense of inevitability about it now. It is

:53:24.:53:27.

difficult to see a way back into this for Julien Benneteau, the way

:53:28.:53:32.

he is playing. He has got to find something different, a different

:53:33.:53:40.

level. We have talked a little bit about the different level that

:53:41.:53:44.

Michael Chang has been able to bring to Kei Nishikori's game. The best

:53:45.:53:54.

coaching jobs have come from Michael Chang's work with Kei Nishikori and

:53:55.:53:59.

Magnus Norman's work with Stan Wawrinka. It is pretty obvious to

:54:00.:54:04.

the ID changes they have made and the success they have had. It is one

:54:05.:54:09.

of the great coaching jobs in the last two years which have been much

:54:10.:54:12.

more subtle to the eyes than are speckled with no that Djokovic. He

:54:13.:54:21.

has done a terrific job -- Novak Djokovic. There are so many superb

:54:22.:54:29.

coaches as they are called now. What can they bring? Had you ever thought

:54:30.:54:37.

about getting involved in that side of things? For better car, he had

:54:38.:54:45.

finished product to work with. -- for Boris Becker, you had a finished

:54:46.:54:49.

product. Boris's calling card as a player was a big match player. Novak

:54:50.:54:55.

did not need techniques or strategy, he had all of that, but he did not

:54:56.:55:00.

have a good record in the major finals at that point in time. Since

:55:01.:55:07.

Boris's intervention, if you will, since his interactions the results

:55:08.:55:10.

speak for themselves. It has been tremendous.

:55:11.:55:42.

I have been approached on multiple occasions.

:55:43.:55:53.

At this stage in my life with a young family, it is not something I

:55:54.:55:57.

can consider. It is intriguing to watch my peer

:55:58.:56:14.

group and the success they are having, or the lack of success. It

:56:15.:56:17.

is interesting. It is another advantage for these

:56:18.:56:47.

top players who earn so much revenue that they can afford multiple

:56:48.:56:48.

coaches. A glimpse of hope for Julien

:56:49.:57:31.

Benneteau. Superbly put away. He made it look

:57:32.:58:42.

very easy. Nishikori keeps his nose in front.

:58:43.:59:09.

The number five seed is still in a very strong position. Julien

:59:10.:59:19.

Benneteau is serving with the new balls.

:59:20.:59:44.

He certainly looks as comfortable, if not more so, on Benneteau's

:59:45.:59:48.

serve, than on his own, Nishikori. He looks freer in the way when

:59:49.:00:05.

returning serve, not having to reach up. There must be something going on

:00:06.:00:09.

there. How many times with that one? You

:00:10.:00:22.

thought Benneteau must surely get there. But again he just abandoned

:00:23.:00:26.

the chase. Timed to perfection by Nishikori. It

:00:27.:01:38.

was not even his standard forehand grip, it was more of a volley grip.

:01:39.:01:40.

Sweet. Double-faulted number 54 Julien

:01:41.:02:06.

Benneteau. It brings another opportunity for Kei Nishikori, a

:02:07.:02:09.

chance of a double break and the end coming quickly forward Benneteau, I

:02:10.:02:12.

suspect. It is long, Nishikori is in control,

:02:13.:02:35.

he has the double break in this fourth set and Benneteau now looks

:02:36.:02:46.

rather weary. Sue SUE BARKER: Yes, it is all Kei

:02:47.:02:54.

Nishikori at the moment. This match is just two games away. More to come

:02:55.:03:00.

on Centre Court. Guess who comes next? It is this man.

:03:01.:03:12.

Come on, Andy. Come on, Andy. Come on, Andy. Come on, Andy. Come on,

:03:13.:03:29.

Andy. I think we will hear quite a few then in the next few hours. We

:03:30.:03:39.

have got Andy Murray and Johanna Konta on Centre Court today. But at

:03:40.:03:43.

the moment Kei Nishikori is in the driving seat on Centre Court, two

:03:44.:03:51.

set up and 4-1 up in the fourth set. Julien Benneteau has faded, but Kei

:03:52.:04:00.

Nishikori has maintained his level and is hitting more when than

:04:01.:04:05.

Benneteau. But the French player is crumbling somewhat. Nishikori is in

:04:06.:04:08.

control. Nishikori is feeling comfortable

:04:09.:04:22.

enough to serve and volley, something that he has not done at

:04:23.:04:33.

all in this match. Nishikori is not having a great set as far as first

:04:34.:04:39.

serve percentage goes. The reverse is true for Benneteau, yet two

:04:40.:04:42.

breaks of serve for Nishikori. Nishikori has not made an unforced

:04:43.:05:10.

error this set. Benneteau is visibly sagging.

:05:11.:05:57.

That error seems to have come out of the blue for Benneteau. He realises

:05:58.:06:09.

the opportunity has escaped him. Nishikori has not played that well.

:06:10.:06:15.

He is not playing that well now, but Benneteau looks like a beaten man.

:06:16.:06:20.

Nishikori is playing just fine, it is not the full throttle, the

:06:21.:06:23.

Nishikori that we would like to see. Well, it was a bit of a ragged

:06:24.:07:17.

service came from Nishikori, but Benneteau did not offer too much.

:07:18.:07:29.

I suspect the end is nigh. He has looked very solid when returning the

:07:30.:07:37.

Benneteau serve. Serving to stay in it.

:07:38.:08:03.

A serve and volley festival has broken out here at the end of this

:08:04.:08:10.

set. That is two in a row. Turn back the clock. What is this?

:08:11.:08:33.

What is going on? People cannot serve and volley on this court any

:08:34.:08:42.

more! The game has changed, you can't do that any more, can you?!

:08:43.:08:59.

UMPIRE: The ball was called out. Not by much. It did not halt his

:09:00.:09:16.

progress for too long. Benneteau make sure that Nishikori will have

:09:17.:09:24.

to stretch that side one more time. Watching Nishikori serve in the

:09:25.:09:31.

second half of this match is reminding me a bit of the way Rafael

:09:32.:09:35.

Nadal was serving when he played in the 2014 Australian Open final and

:09:36.:09:41.

his back went out. He could not get any arch on his serve any more. It

:09:42.:09:47.

looked painful. That is what it appears to be for Kei Nishikori. He

:09:48.:09:55.

is such a good return. When he gets into a rally he looks far more at

:09:56.:10:01.

ease. We will see it again, a bit of tension added for good measure,

:10:02.:10:08.

serving for the match. He is not big at serving anyway, that it has not

:10:09.:10:14.

got any zippo conviction in it. He has more pays than he had in the

:10:15.:10:19.

first round where he was struggling a bit with his injury, but a great

:10:20.:10:32.

player though he is, as the number five seed would he be able to

:10:33.:10:35.

challenge the very top guys in this tournament? He is one step closer to

:10:36.:10:44.

finding out as he serves for the match.

:10:45.:11:03.

A lot of Kei Nishikori fans in here, but there are a lot for the next

:11:04.:11:07.

match as well. Just 94 miles an hour but good

:11:08.:11:55.

enough to stop Benneteau. Wide from the Frenchman and round

:11:56.:12:15.

three beckons for Kei Nishikori. And there it is. Finished with that

:12:16.:13:27.

venomous backhand and Kei Nishikori is through to round three. He did

:13:28.:13:33.

start a bit. He looked briefly troubled when he lost the first set,

:13:34.:13:40.

but he turned it round so well. The number five seed moves on. He has

:13:41.:13:45.

beaten Julien Benneteau. He may well get stronger as he continues to

:13:46.:13:51.

recover. Certainly better than last year when he was forced to withdraw

:13:52.:13:55.

prior to his second-round match with injury. He came in with a shadow

:13:56.:14:01.

over his chances here, but at least he is moving on. For this man he has

:14:02.:14:07.

had his last singles match at the all England Club. His ranking is

:14:08.:14:14.

well under the triple digits. But I scored to finish on if indeed it is

:14:15.:14:19.

your last. He has got to think about the double is now with his partner,

:14:20.:14:33.

a great doubles partnership. That is what lies in store for him with his

:14:34.:14:41.

brother Antoine. But for Kei Nishikori it is a few autographs and

:14:42.:14:46.

then onwards to planning for the next round against Alexander

:14:47.:14:57.

Kuznetsov. It is always a bus and the filtering out of the spectators

:14:58.:15:00.

when they get ready for the next match. Autographs, selfies, onwards

:15:01.:15:16.

towards a chat with us. Things to certainly improve for Kei Nishikori,

:15:17.:15:22.

but there is a lot of good in there as well. Victory in four sets

:15:23.:15:32.

against Benneteau. Benneteau certainly troubled him early on in

:15:33.:15:40.

the match, but he turned it around. He goes on to play Kuznetsov.

:15:41.:15:48.

He is talking to Richey. Congratulations, you played pretty

:15:49.:15:51.

well once you lost the first set. What was the reason for the change?

:15:52.:15:58.

I started playing more aggressive, especially on my backhand and I try

:15:59.:16:03.

to be a bit more aggressive. It was not an easy match, he started well.

:16:04.:16:09.

You have not been unlucky with injuries at Wimbledon. Last year we

:16:10.:16:13.

know what happened and we know you have had a rib injury. How did it

:16:14.:16:19.

feel today? It was not too bad. I am a bit sore still, but hopefully it

:16:20.:16:25.

will get better tomorrow. Does it hurt in any particular aspect of the

:16:26.:16:34.

game? When you are serving? Maybe. We had two days before today to

:16:35.:16:42.

rest. What is the treatment you might have to help that he'll so you

:16:43.:16:47.

can prepare for your next game? I am trying to do everything they can. I

:16:48.:16:51.

have got a good team with me, a good physio. I have been doing whatever I

:16:52.:17:00.

can to get better. Your next match is against Kuznetsov. Any thoughts

:17:01.:17:03.

about what that challenge might provide for you? Yes, we just played

:17:04.:17:10.

in the French. He is a great player, I think you likes the grass. He hits

:17:11.:17:17.

very flat and he has got a good serve, so we will see what happens.

:17:18.:17:22.

Congratulations and best of luck for the rest of the tournament.

:17:23.:17:30.

Kei Nishikori is safely through. It was not an overpowering performance

:17:31.:17:34.

from Nishikori, but he looked good in aspects. We hope he gets stronger

:17:35.:17:39.

and fitter. I know he said after his first-round match that he is not

:17:40.:17:45.

100%. If he can find that extra few percent, he could have a good run at

:17:46.:17:52.

Wimbledon. He has a lovely draw with Kuznetsov, the Russian player, a

:17:53.:17:59.

flat ball striker. Dangerous, but even Nishikori at less than 100% he

:18:00.:18:05.

should be able to handle it. He will get a couple of days of rest and

:18:06.:18:10.

hopefully that rib injury will get closer to 100% and he can unleash

:18:11.:18:14.

the full power on serve which he will need if he wants to go deep

:18:15.:18:19.

into the second week. Nishikori is through to round three with that

:18:20.:18:24.

four sets win over Julien Benneteau. SUE BARKER: Do not go anywhere

:18:25.:18:28.

because Andy Murray will be next on Centre Court and we will be back

:18:29.:18:33.

with him. On Court 18 Angelique Kerber is in action and asset and a

:18:34.:18:40.

break up. That match live on BBC Two.

:18:41.:18:45.

The five times champion being as Williams was given a real test by

:18:46.:18:53.

the 21-year-old qualifier from Greece, Maria Sakkari. But she came

:18:54.:18:57.

through like all great champions do. Aeneas Williams got a scare on

:18:58.:19:04.

court, but in the end she is safely through. And John McEnroe will be

:19:05.:19:09.

joining me shortly and he will have a smile on his face because his man,

:19:10.:19:15.

Milos Raonic, is through. He was up against Andreas Seppi. He has a

:19:16.:19:21.

monster of a serve and he used it today and is through to the next

:19:22.:19:25.

round to face Jack's Soc of the United States. So, Henman Hill is

:19:26.:19:32.

filling up because you know who is coming out onto Centre Court. It is

:19:33.:19:38.

Andy Murray and it is round two of his Wimbledon challenge.

:19:39.:20:02.

He has never lost an opening match at Wimbledon, Andy Murray. Job done

:20:03.:20:19.

for Andy Murray. He looks comfortable there.

:20:20.:20:32.

SUE BARKER: Yes, he is on a mission and he wants to win here and he

:20:33.:20:38.

wants to take on Djokovic in the final, but he has got a difficult

:20:39.:20:46.

opponent again in Yen-Hsun Lu. A moment ago they came onto Centre

:20:47.:20:53.

Court to a big cheer. Yen-Hsun Lu is no stranger, he beat Andy Roddick

:20:54.:20:58.

here on Monday. It is not an easy opponent for Andy Murray today.

:20:59.:21:11.

So, Andy Murray is making his way onto Centre Court. He defeated Liam

:21:12.:21:18.

Broady in the opening match at Wimbledon, that this will be a whole

:21:19.:21:23.

different match for him up against a talented player who is difficult to

:21:24.:21:26.

be and who loves the grass court as well. Andy Murray against Yen-Hsun

:21:27.:21:32.

Lu, that is our late afternoon treat for you this afternoon on BBC One.

:21:33.:21:38.

John McEnroe is here, I said you would have a smile on your face.

:21:39.:21:43.

Milos Raonic, your man did OK. Just five more to go. Easy. This is a

:21:44.:21:50.

tricky opponent for Andy Murray. I know he has been injured and out. I

:21:51.:21:56.

did not know anything about him and all of a sudden he was playing Andy

:21:57.:22:01.

Roddick and he beat him 8-6 in the fifth. He is tricky and he mixes

:22:02.:22:09.

things up. We talk about the smaller guys, Kei Nishikori being the better

:22:10.:22:15.

one, they have benefited, and Yen-Hsun Lu has benefited because

:22:16.:22:19.

the ball does not drop so high. They can control things a bit better. To

:22:20.:22:25.

me grass is his best surface and he has played more matches because of

:22:26.:22:30.

the injury and because he got here earlier and played all these

:22:31.:22:33.

challengers and he has won a bunch of matches. I didn't know he was a

:22:34.:22:41.

challenge at Queen's. He won in Surbiton and Ilkley. It is good of

:22:42.:22:45.

somebody of his stature to go and play there. He wanted to come here

:22:46.:22:49.

and play well. There is no better tonic and having wins. You have

:22:50.:22:58.

still got to win the matches. He has had 1/4-final here. He had the win

:22:59.:23:06.

over Andy Murray in the Olympics, it was not Andy Murray's best day. He

:23:07.:23:13.

has got some weapons, but I do not think it will be enough to overcome

:23:14.:23:18.

Andy Murray. Andy Murray has looked so good all year. We saw him at

:23:19.:23:25.

Queen's and Milos Raonic was playing great tennis all week and he got up

:23:26.:23:29.

a set and a break and the great players find that extra gear when

:23:30.:23:34.

they really need it. You have got a guy like Andy Murray who is going to

:23:35.:23:40.

have a good look at some of the service. Milos Raonic is huge. You

:23:41.:23:49.

have got to believe he will get half a dozen breaks against the sky. For

:23:50.:23:54.

him he has been working on being more aggressive and also on his

:23:55.:24:00.

second serve. That is the key for him to go all the way. To me the gap

:24:01.:24:07.

is smallest between him and Novak Djokovic on this court. This is the

:24:08.:24:12.

surface where he has the best chance of beating Novak Djokovic. Yes, I

:24:13.:24:16.

think so. I think having Lendl coming back was a good thing, that

:24:17.:24:21.

mental side. It will be interesting to see what goes on in Andy Murray's

:24:22.:24:34.

box. You would not argue with him. I can totally understand where he is

:24:35.:24:41.

coming from because it is weird and embarrassing at times when things go

:24:42.:24:44.

on and Murray is a better player when he does not do it and deep down

:24:45.:24:49.

he knows that and that is why he wanted Lendl back. He said he knows

:24:50.:24:54.

it gives him negative energy, but he could not stop it and the respect is

:24:55.:25:00.

there and if Lendl doesn't want to, he does not do it. Nobody will be

:25:01.:25:07.

giving those looks to me or those comments to me, or there will be

:25:08.:25:13.

trouble! Jamie has done a really good job with him as well through

:25:14.:25:21.

the French Open. He is part-time in a way and Landon will be there

:25:22.:25:27.

pretty often. But when you have an opportunity to get the guy who has

:25:28.:25:30.

been out on the tour and knows what it's like and is willing to spend 35

:25:31.:25:35.

weeks of the year with Andy Murray, day in, day out, they start to play.

:25:36.:25:46.

Ricardo Piatti wasn't with Milos Raonic and Richard Gasquet and now

:25:47.:25:50.

you have got guys who can mix it up a little. It is a good combination

:25:51.:25:54.

and you have got a couple of different ideas from the

:25:55.:26:00.

ballplayers. It is fun for me. I am not so secretly happy to be part of

:26:01.:26:04.

something a little bit more and it brings some of the old greats back

:26:05.:26:09.

in the mix a little bit and it is fun. He will want to get out of you

:26:10.:26:14.

what you were too mentally, how you dealt with those big point and it is

:26:15.:26:18.

good to speak to somebody who has been there and done it on the big

:26:19.:26:23.

stage. You have hit the nail on the head. That is exactly why Lendl was

:26:24.:26:28.

hired in the first place. Unfortunately I was the victim, but

:26:29.:26:33.

he had lost three or four finals and Grand Slams before he beat me in the

:26:34.:26:39.

French, among other places. I unleashed a monster! With Andy

:26:40.:26:45.

Murray he had the same issue, he had lost a bunch of finals and having

:26:46.:26:48.

someone who has been there and done that and overcome it is quite nice.

:26:49.:26:55.

I think that is a big part of why he won Wimbledon and the Olympics. He

:26:56.:27:01.

was more aggressive when he was under Lendl. I was watching the

:27:02.:27:05.

practice session this morning and he will be attacking today. He has to

:27:06.:27:11.

prepare for this, he has to start being aggressive and play that way

:27:12.:27:15.

if he wants to win the tournament. I think he will take some chances

:27:16.:27:19.

today and is big hitting from Murray and aggressive when he gets the

:27:20.:27:23.

chance. The second serve is key and that is something he will think

:27:24.:27:28.

about. Did he get you with the serve? He is a big target! But he

:27:29.:27:37.

has improved his second serve and he has gone back to the drawing board

:27:38.:27:42.

and he did that in the spring and he changed a couple of things

:27:43.:27:45.

technically and it is good when you are world number two and you still

:27:46.:27:49.

want to make those adjustments. He has got no choice if he wants to win

:27:50.:27:54.

more majors. That is the beauty of these last ten years. Rafael Nadal,

:27:55.:27:59.

Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray are forcing each other to get better. He

:28:00.:28:07.

has got great hands, he has to take it to the net. Novak Djokovic does

:28:08.:28:12.

that very well now. Roger Federer is doing it because of aid, but to Andy

:28:13.:28:17.

Murray would be better if he started doing as well. John, thank you very

:28:18.:28:23.

much. We should be in for some lovely rallies in this match. Sit

:28:24.:28:28.

back and enjoy with John McEnroe and Simon Reade.

:28:29.:28:36.

So... Lu a winner over Andy in 2008. GZ was one of those his worst

:28:37.:29:02.

defeats. Not repealed. The 2008 Beijing 01 pics. But since then, he

:29:03.:29:10.

has dropped a set to Lu. Not can he continue that? They're hoping so. --

:29:11.:29:15.

has not. John's joined me. Do you expect Lu

:29:16.:29:42.

to take it to Andy? I do. Played a lot recently. That has helped. Going

:29:43.:29:53.

to the minors. But this is the ultimate. Controlled, aggressive.

:29:54.:30:11.

Lu is not the type of guy to come in and hit volleys. But times the ball

:30:12.:30:24.

well. He needs a start like this. An early lead would be huge for him.

:30:25.:31:02.

That wasn't the drop shot... Murray usually good with that. Way too far

:31:03.:31:48.

over the net. Lu fifth speedy enough to handle it. Ball was out the

:31:49.:31:49.

picture. Couple of break points. That is how you want to hit it. Lu,

:31:50.:32:22.

firey start! And thought to these extra belief. You mentioned the

:32:23.:32:29.

dehydration, but he defeated them, at the Olympics. Hang your hat on

:32:30.:32:38.

that. Make you believe. Missed a lot of time with surgery. Four months.

:32:39.:32:47.

Looking sharp. Saw him on the practice court. You mentioned

:32:48.:32:53.

aggressiveness. He was at the baseline. That is what he wants to

:32:54.:32:55.

do, against Murray. Moving as well as I've ever seen

:32:56.:33:17.

him. Surprising, Murray the tighter of the two, at least early.

:33:18.:33:38.

Risky, on the first serve, to go bigger. The percentage will drop.

:33:39.:33:49.

Murray is going to attack. Be sure of that.

:33:50.:34:25.

Lu looking very steady. These rallies you expect Murray to win. Lu

:34:26.:34:37.

looking strong. I don't know what's stranger, the

:34:38.:34:57.

forehand or the grunt! Sounds like he's saying something!

:34:58.:35:24.

Whatever it is, working so far. A dream start for Lu who is on a roll.

:35:25.:35:45.

11 successive matches. Challengers. First round here. Beat Kudryavtsev

:35:46.:35:53.

in straight last guy he lost to on grass, Dustin

:35:54.:36:15.

Brown. Some entertainment tomorrow. Put that on centre! Early request.

:36:16.:36:52.

No doubt Murray has the greater firepower. Both wings. Bigger,

:36:53.:37:08.

stronger version than Lu. Over time that will have an effect.

:37:09.:37:22.

Why don't they wait longer? This is Murray playing. Pride of GB. A third

:37:23.:37:36.

of the seats empty! Wait ten, 15 minutes... For tv... Plenty of other

:37:37.:37:46.

stuff going around. Matches on outside courts.

:37:47.:38:08.

Well, Lu coming out strong! How good a rally was that! Depth, time after

:38:09.:38:18.

time! Murray on the scoreboard. Last year

:38:19.:38:55.

Lu played here at Wimbledon. Lost to Mahut. Dustin Brown. Undergoing

:38:56.:39:04.

elbow surgery. Happy man, out now. Healthy. Elbow seems in good shape.

:39:05.:39:21.

Embracing this. Not overwhelmed. Murray was tentative, shaky the

:39:22.:39:30.

wrong world? Rushed out. This is what the doctor ordered for Lu.

:39:31.:39:40.

Murray's dad. We saw Judy. No worries yet. But Lu has started

:39:41.:39:46.

exceptional. Backhand, so good. Haven't seen a

:39:47.:40:09.

volley as far as I know. Some times you get credit for net points even

:40:10.:40:13.

if you don't hit a volley. Subjective. Come in, force an error.

:40:14.:40:39.

Murray should use that slice on the backhand. Get low to Lu's forehand,

:40:40.:40:49.

get mishits. At the moment, in the zone, Lu.

:40:50.:41:13.

Feeling he has nothing to lose. A lot to gain. Does not open often,

:41:14.:41:27.

take time off, come back better in so many ways.

:41:28.:41:38.

They played here, 2013, 6-3, 6-3, 7-5 Murray.

:41:39.:42:00.

Lu gets down low exceptionally well. Handling that slice too. He is

:42:01.:42:18.

awake, right!? Super rally! Lines hit on both sides

:42:19.:43:30.

of the net. You assume when Murray gets his game and act together he

:43:31.:43:38.

does everything better. Taller, hits harder... Turns around sooner rather

:43:39.:43:43.

than later. Lu has sweat pouring down the chin.

:43:44.:44:12.

But executing and so far. It is just an outstanding start.

:44:13.:44:31.

Best of five, such longer haul than three. That is why it is sort of, to

:44:32.:44:40.

defeat these top guys, so consistent. Top four with Rafa not

:44:41.:44:52.

here. Tough enough to get a set. Two, more so! But three!? Few and

:44:53.:45:01.

far between have upset the top players. Over the last ten years,

:45:02.:45:15.

record has been scary. Novak, won 30 straight matches! Laver, Federer,

:45:16.:45:26.

couldn't do it. Scary. Think about the other guys. Zero exactly quick

:45:27.:45:40.

thinking. That was good hustle from Murray. Get that ball above the net,

:45:41.:45:47.

nice options. Easier. Going to start peppering that

:45:48.:46:17.

forehand, using the slice to open the court up. Deuce in particular.

:46:18.:46:26.

By cystic that he is going to start working Lu's forehand more. He is

:46:27.:46:32.

aggressive, but does not finish many points, with the volley. What he'll

:46:33.:46:46.

do... Hit those balls, drove Roddick crazy, Fedrerer, deliberately short.

:46:47.:46:51.

Forcing you to make the decision, getting them in on your terms.

:46:52.:47:05.

Second tour level event of the year. Lost at Paris. Not choosing the

:47:06.:47:19.

opponent well. Djokovic. Bad draw. Same as Ward days ago. Murray broken

:47:20.:47:32.

sweat himself. Ready to step it up. Does not want to get a set down

:47:33.:47:39.

against Lu and I presume that he is going to stand closer, attacked the

:47:40.:47:43.

second serve. Lu, definitely more confident, at

:47:44.:48:05.

least to me, using that system. But Murray, student of the game, knows

:48:06.:48:06.

that all too well. Super shot. Murray is going to

:48:07.:48:32.

challenge. Caught the back of the line? Murray just checking the ball.

:48:33.:48:40.

White stuff on it. Not much though. That's the one. You could see this

:48:41.:49:17.

coming. For him, safe. He can be aggressive. Spinning from Lu. Tough

:49:18.:49:22.

to handle. Almost inside out backhand. Where's his first serve?

:49:23.:49:30.

Murray, after the second. First "come on" from Murray! First

:49:31.:49:45.

break point. Big serve. 124mph. Good time to save

:49:46.:50:07.

one break point. Longest rally by a country mile!

:50:08.:51:39.

This ball, Lu has to move for. Tries the drop shot. It was not a good

:51:40.:51:52.

decision. If you went back, checked, how many times you'd hold against

:51:53.:51:59.

Murray when you hit one of six first serves... Minuscule.

:52:00.:52:29.

Super play from Murray. Recognised, quickly, Lu is aggressive but

:52:30.:53:33.

doesn't want to come to the net. Bring him in on Andy's terms.

:53:34.:53:38.

Rebounded nicely from the sluggish start. That is beautiful. Even by

:53:39.:53:53.

her standards, -- his standards, that was special. Turn was

:53:54.:54:02.

excellent. Approach as well. Hand it to him. Move on.

:54:03.:54:24.

Challenge. Lu's not moving? Indeed so!

:54:25.:54:49.

Another bit of luck! It is beautiful, for everybody the sun is

:54:50.:55:25.

out, except for the server! Causing some complications. Move the ball

:55:26.:55:30.

toss slightly. So... Murray ahead 4-3. Certainly

:55:31.:55:56.

seems to weathered the storm after have Lu's impressive start. But

:55:57.:56:12.

Muguruza down to Cepelova, 124 in the world, but has a habit of giant

:56:13.:56:17.

killings. Beat Halep and Serena Williams. Two break points to

:56:18.:56:31.

Muguruza but back to centre. It is going better, for Andy Murray. The

:56:32.:56:43.

other thing is that the top guys do, they can taste the opponent, in this

:56:44.:56:52.

case Lu, as it turns out he's sharp. Not necessarily going to the

:56:53.:56:57.

weakness, straightaway, using the bag of tricks. As the set

:56:58.:57:02.

progressed, he saw that he had to employ something different, he let

:57:03.:57:10.

it slip. Done so. Rebounded. Before up to Lu to see what he's made of.

:57:11.:57:29.

Subtle adjustments. Move forward? New balls. That should give more pop

:57:30.:57:34.

to the serve. Mistakes continue to come from that

:57:35.:57:53.

forehand. It is a problem with the sun. But

:57:54.:58:29.

Lu's serve completely off. Better pull it together. 42% first serves

:58:30.:58:47.

in. A whole lot better than that after the first service games.

:58:48.:58:56.

Suddenly, very different match. Points for a second successive

:58:57.:59:07.

break. Four games in a row before Murray

:59:08.:59:29.

and a feeling that the air has gone out of the tire a bit. Murray made

:59:30.:59:35.

the adjustment he needed and lifted up his level. And Lu panicked,

:59:36.:59:46.

understandably in the way, because he feels he is out of his comfort

:59:47.:59:49.

zone. They do not step it up too often

:59:50.:00:10.

like this on the Challenger circuit. Right now Lu looks a little lost.

:00:11.:00:18.

Murray didn't read that at all. The momentum has shifted obviously

:00:19.:00:46.

dramatically here. He has just got to enjoy the moment. He may never be

:00:47.:00:48.

here again. That was a smart serve, sweet effort

:00:49.:01:02.

by Lu, but Murray just covered. More animated now. And Lord of the

:01:03.:01:17.

head. He must be playing well, Murray. -- ignored.

:01:18.:01:36.

If you do not hit your sports, they are going to come back at you. It

:01:37.:01:41.

was a good return by Lu. It is better when he takes the air

:01:42.:02:05.

out of it and lowers the miles per hour.

:02:06.:03:01.

Murray changing the point of attack. Not close. It is a big step from

:03:02.:03:12.

Murray to take. It looked like his balance was a little bit off as he

:03:13.:03:14.

struck that ball up the line. Super, much-needed. This is how Lu

:03:15.:03:46.

started out on points like this. A couple of shouts of come on from

:03:47.:04:38.

Murray, but he was rather gifted that. It was a tough shot, having

:04:39.:04:46.

hit that ball of the return. The return had some serious mustard on

:04:47.:04:47.

it. Murray could fight it off. Again the backhand does the trick.

:04:48.:05:20.

And he has got another chance to break back. An aggressive approach.

:05:21.:05:57.

It was a slightly better drop shot, but very risky. We know earlier in

:05:58.:06:28.

the tournament that Lu was desperate to get up there before the ball

:06:29.:06:30.

started dropping below the net. APPLAUSE

:06:31.:07:20.

It took 38 minutes. That he has come through a dodgy

:07:21.:07:31.

patch to take it, 6-3. Not much expression from Lendl, but you would

:07:32.:07:37.

never expect it. Never want to express himself a whole lot, and

:07:38.:07:47.

particularly as a coach. He would show some emotion at times over the

:07:48.:07:56.

years. He actually came on Tuesday at Queen's. The relationship they

:07:57.:08:01.

had in the past has been so comfortable and productive he was

:08:02.:08:06.

able to walk again right at the beginning of that event. The

:08:07.:08:16.

tournament before London, he was able to take charge. And it was

:08:17.:08:23.

super at Queen's. Your man, Milos Raonic, was fantastic. The first

:08:24.:08:30.

hour was wonderful for him and Murray just raised it. You talked

:08:31.:08:35.

about raising the game. Exactly, he is able to do something that very

:08:36.:08:39.

few people are able to do, it is about finding that extra gear. Milos

:08:40.:08:46.

Raonic hits his service as hard as anyone ever has, but Murray ended up

:08:47.:08:50.

breaking him and stepping it up and sensing the moment when he had the

:08:51.:08:54.

opportunity to take advantage. That is the great skill. This is

:08:55.:09:05.

obviously a different situation. You can sense the vulnerability of Lu

:09:06.:09:14.

seating end. Murray jumped on it. There is not a whole lot he can do

:09:15.:09:16.

different. What hurt him in the first set was

:09:17.:09:34.

the first serve percentage. If you were advising him, maybe take that

:09:35.:09:39.

little bit off the first serve and get the percentage higher.

:09:40.:09:50.

Of course that is what he did on that point and it didn't work.

:09:51.:10:00.

Murray is one of the best returners in the history of the sport. You

:10:01.:10:03.

will not get many of them back. Murray is so smart because he sent

:10:04.:10:41.

his attention. You can feel his confidence is leaving his body.

:10:42.:11:02.

Murray senses his attention. It is so smart. Go for more. And even more

:11:03.:11:09.

destabilising because he is doing it on the backhand of Lu which has been

:11:10.:11:11.

one of his best shots. That is a thing of beauty. That is

:11:12.:11:40.

six games in a row for Murray from 3-1 down. At this level you cannot

:11:41.:11:47.

give a guy like Murray another chance like that. It is amazing how

:11:48.:11:57.

quickly and how sharply he does it. You just witnessed in the last 15-20

:11:58.:12:04.

minutes how brilliant a tactician Murray is in some ways. He is

:12:05.:12:09.

formidable because he can adjust. I would like to see Lu coming

:12:10.:12:52.

forward. That is something he has got to try.

:12:53.:13:30.

Full pelt and still with the skill to make it.

:13:31.:13:42.

An absolutely fantastic point. Lu played a fantastic point and he did

:13:43.:13:52.

not win it. This guy is an athlete big-time.

:13:53.:14:17.

He covered the court as well as anyone. Actually, I'd take that

:14:18.:14:29.

back. He plays offence and defence, the number one seed here, the holder

:14:30.:14:37.

of all four Grand Slams. Novak Djokovic. 47 years since that has

:14:38.:14:48.

happened. He has just taken Lu completely out of this. Lu had the

:14:49.:14:50.

best start he could possibly imagine.

:14:51.:15:05.

He just gets better and better. Djokovic is obviously going for that

:15:06.:15:15.

calendar Grand Slam. Do you think Murray's best chance of stopping him

:15:16.:15:20.

is here? I believe so. I think the variety of shot that he uses, that

:15:21.:15:26.

slides in particular, is most effective on this court. -- slice.

:15:27.:15:39.

It looks like a Murray and Djokovic final. A lot of guys are trying to

:15:40.:15:51.

step up and close the gap and make a run of their own.

:15:52.:16:12.

That is well handled. Roger Federer yesterday hit that shot about a

:16:13.:16:27.

dozen times. It shows he hasn't gone away. Why would anyone possibly want

:16:28.:16:38.

to go away from this court? I couldn't even imagine the

:16:39.:16:39.

possibility. But when you have lost seven games

:16:40.:17:04.

in a row it must hurt and some people react better than others.

:17:05.:17:29.

Well, for a moment Lu has broken the spell. After seven consecutive

:17:30.:18:10.

losing games he gets one. SUE BARKER: Murray is still up a break

:18:11.:18:14.

of serve in this second set. We will be right back with it. Bernard

:18:15.:18:22.

Tomic, the 19th seed, he has come through in four sets. He had a

:18:23.:18:30.

chance to finish it off in the third set and lost the tie-break 8-6. He

:18:31.:18:39.

notes plays Roberto Bautista Agut. But sad news to

:18:40.:18:55.

report, Bencic has been struggling with an injured left wrist and at a

:18:56.:19:01.

set down and a break down she decided to call it a day, telling

:19:02.:19:08.

the umpire she could not continue. Her opponent was ranked 225 is round

:19:09.:19:19.

through to the third round. Bencic is the third seed through so far.

:19:20.:19:30.

A lot of drama between Jana Cepelova and Garbine Muguruza. You can see

:19:31.:19:43.

that match on the red button. One thing that Murray has an ability

:19:44.:20:26.

to do now is to kill of matches which is something he did not have

:20:27.:20:30.

before. His attention tended to drift.

:20:31.:20:54.

You do not need to look any further than Roland Garros where the 25

:20:55.:21:04.

sets, in the first couple of rounds, may have cost him because he looked

:21:05.:21:08.

pretty exhausted in the finals when he had to rise to that occasion and

:21:09.:21:15.

deal with Novak Djokovic. The more energy he can keep in reserve, the

:21:16.:21:17.

better for him. UMPIRE: Challenge, the call was out.

:21:18.:21:32.

Murray was quick to challenge. And right.

:21:33.:21:43.

You want to hit a part of the line if you can as a serve. The inside

:21:44.:21:51.

would be fine, outside would be better.

:21:52.:22:28.

When Murray hits through a couple of ground shots it seems as if they are

:22:29.:24:43.

getting faster. Taking the pace of it, now he is stepping it up again.

:24:44.:25:07.

Oh, wonderful! I always felt he had great hands. He has got a great feel

:25:08.:25:22.

for the ball and how much to put on and have far to tip the racket back

:25:23.:25:27.

in that situation. He could be a tremendous volley. He just does not

:25:28.:25:37.

do it that often. I think that would be a nice added asset for him. Why

:25:38.:25:40.

do you go and tell Lendl that? No. That is great for Murray. That is

:25:41.:26:11.

the second time Lu has messed up a point like that. Don't expect Murray

:26:12.:26:16.

to give up on something. That was a bit of a bonehead move

:26:17.:26:35.

from Lu. It will be tough to get out of this game.

:26:36.:27:17.

That was a gorgeous rally. It really did not come up at all. He was not

:27:18.:27:34.

sure that the court would count, that is why he wanted to talk to the

:27:35.:27:36.

umpire. But it did. He is still mad about that forehand

:27:37.:27:59.

at 15-40 that he missed, the passing shot.

:28:00.:28:08.

Well it looked as if Lu was going out of the second set but fought

:28:09.:28:50.

back. Still a break down. To give him credit, caught with his pants

:28:51.:29:02.

down but came back! It is one thing, to be outplayed but then when you

:29:03.:29:07.

beat yourself... We can take a look, add the placement, of Murray's

:29:08.:29:19.

serve. Not doing an awful lot wrong. Probably because this guy is not

:29:20.:29:28.

particularly tall. Not going to be a lot, on the deuce spot. Even if he

:29:29.:29:37.

gets, in, court opens up. And getting nothing from the backhand.

:29:38.:29:46.

He has got Lu where he wants him. Would have preferred the insurance,

:29:47.:29:58.

from the double break. He has got some belief, more importantly. An

:29:59.:30:04.

eventful first hour. Move to the second. A third?

:30:05.:30:44.

Lu looking to move forward a little. That's helping. Going with the flow.

:30:45.:30:53.

Not overthinking. Much better drop shot. Lu needs to

:30:54.:31:41.

stay closer at the second serve. Caught too far to move behind the

:31:42.:31:45.

baseline. Murray sees that. Calls up the drop shot.

:31:46.:32:15.

Yes. It all started with that return. Cut the angle off. Good job.

:32:16.:32:33.

More difficult smash and he makes it!

:32:34.:33:05.

But it was a beautifully delivered hand from Murray. That was

:33:06.:33:28.

tremendous. But Lu was scrambling, to get into position. Couldn't do

:33:29.:33:32.

it. A light appearing here for the guy

:33:33.:33:42.

from Chinese Taipei. Same again. Lu just did not latch

:33:43.:34:44.

onto that serve. 78mph. Just go for it. And that was a safe return. But,

:34:45.:34:54.

try that at home! Not easy to pull that off.

:34:55.:35:07.

Left the door open but slammed it shut!

:35:08.:36:01.

He can do so much with this shot. Hit through, slice, come over,

:36:02.:36:07.

angle. You just do not know what's coming. Unsettling, for the

:36:08.:36:13.

opponent. The power of that double hander. It

:36:14.:37:46.

is extremely difficult, to hit it as hard as Murray, hit it back up the

:37:47.:37:47.

line. That's why that ball sailed. Looks like Lu if the -- after the

:37:48.:39:02.

elbow surgery has kept up the road work.

:39:03.:39:28.

Wouldn't you know it! Murray rubbing salt in the wound. Couldn't go for

:39:29.:39:40.

that. You'd never pull a trick like that! Couldn't hit that many balls

:39:41.:39:46.

in, in a row! Here it comes again... Torture.

:39:47.:40:55.

Threw a pie in his face! Just rub it in!

:40:56.:41:07.

Tiredness probably brought that about. Weary looking.

:41:08.:41:49.

Murray really securing the second set.

:41:50.:42:00.

Drop shots, worth their weight in gold. Physically, mentally. Torture

:42:01.:42:18.

for Lu. You have to admire the effort they put in, to get the

:42:19.:42:23.

fitness necessary. Not too shabby now. But just think about,

:42:24.:42:34.

endurance. Best of five. Sprint like speed. So critical in a tennis

:42:35.:42:47.

match. And you also have to recover, fast. Simple as that. By the end of

:42:48.:42:59.

the game, we were gasping! Trying to help him get air! Mrs Murray. Being

:43:00.:43:08.

tempted! Not that time. Must be happy. Things are going well. New

:43:09.:43:19.

balls, finish the set off. Cracking down those serves. 128.

:43:20.:43:34.

Consistently over 125. Had a chance there. Down the line.

:43:35.:44:46.

So... Two set points for a two set lead.

:44:47.:45:03.

Steady as she goes. Murray, two sets to the good. Murray, in control.

:45:04.:45:14.

We'll be back. But we are going to go to a story, unfolding on court

:45:15.:45:27.

17, Viktor Troicki, unhappy, he thought that was out, umpire over

:45:28.:45:37.

ruled it, that has given the Spaniard match point. No white on

:45:38.:45:50.

it. Look at it! What! No white on the ball. He says it didn't clip the

:45:51.:45:55.

line. Worst umpire ever in the world! What are you doing? He

:45:56.:46:09.

believed it was out. That has given the Spaniard, match point. 5-3,

:46:10.:46:31.

fifth and final set. Goes out. Ramos-Vinolas goes through. But

:46:32.:46:40.

Viktor Troicki has not finished. Do you know what you did! Do you know

:46:41.:46:57.

what you did! You are horrible! What are you doing! This was going on,

:46:58.:47:07.

for some time. He went to the referee's office. I think we're

:47:08.:47:12.

going to hear some more from Viktor Troicki. But we can go back to

:47:13.:47:20.

Centre Court. And we have got just the man to comment. Solved the

:47:21.:47:36.

problem... Disgraceful behaviour? By the umpire, yes! For over ruling! I

:47:37.:47:49.

suppose they did not have challenge on that court. Should have it on all

:47:50.:47:59.

courts. You would think that the money would be around, to do that.

:48:00.:48:10.

He likes boxing, Murray. Giving this guy body blows. Weary, Lu. The

:48:11.:48:30.

breaking his will as we speak. Bat such -- that is such a good shot.

:48:31.:48:41.

Three break points. To kick-start set three.

:48:42.:49:07.

Remember, if you were here at the beginning, 4pm or so, warm up

:49:08.:49:18.

happening, Lu started great. Hit the ball well, cleanly. 3-1, now he is,

:49:19.:49:31.

understandably, not idea what to do. He went from their happiest man to

:49:32.:49:40.

what looks like... Finding a way to get out of here. And it is getting

:49:41.:49:44.

terribly one sided. This level, Lu, you would think he'd

:49:45.:50:22.

make one more attempt to lift himself emotionally.

:50:23.:50:32.

Seen plenty of those! Give Federer a call! Gorgeous play from Murray.

:50:33.:51:33.

Got all the answers! Painful to watch for Lu now. From the

:51:34.:51:50.

challenger level to stratosphere! Won 15 of his last 16 grass court

:51:51.:52:15.

matches, Lu. Wouldn't know it. Great defence again. Murray

:52:16.:53:25.

combining his defensive skills, movement.

:53:26.:53:32.

With offensive play. Drop shot has beffudled Lu. Mixing up his game so

:53:33.:53:39.

well. How good is that? What a stretch

:53:40.:54:07.

that was! Lendl couldn't have done that! Whisper it! Pretty good ball

:54:08.:54:19.

Lu struck. Sliced, stayed low. Murray down dutifully.

:54:20.:54:41.

Put me out my misery! That is a shot, the offensive looking

:54:42.:54:59.

forehand, Lendl has been working on with Andy for a while. White flag

:55:00.:55:01.

coming here? I give up! He's starting to fray big time. You

:55:02.:55:36.

can understand that. I had a feeling, the last time I played

:55:37.:55:46.

here, and it was against Agassi, I thought that the matter how hard I

:55:47.:55:57.

hit he could return. That is a bad feeling. This is one of drop shots.

:55:58.:56:08.

The the key to me, baseline in. Played needs to be moving back,

:56:09.:56:13.

moving, that is a good position to have some options. Further back you

:56:14.:56:19.

are, longer you have to travel. Nearly a smile there! Not a smile

:56:20.:56:31.

now, don't know when there would be! Possibly the end of the competition,

:56:32.:56:35.

getting the trophy. So it is not just the man, tactics as well?

:56:36.:56:45.

Always exceedingly well prepared. And make no mistake, Murray has been

:56:46.:56:53.

playing well, this has not, out of nowhere, this is just the icing on

:56:54.:56:59.

the cake, deal with Novak a little bit. I remember that book, About

:57:00.:57:08.

You, Rage for Perfection. Murray has that. He does. And some other guys

:57:09.:57:23.

out there. Trying to catch that man at the top of the mountain. And

:57:24.:57:26.

Murray, the closest. By some way. You do not want to be playing Murray

:57:27.:58:05.

right now! The only time I have seen him smile

:58:06.:58:33.

on a tennis court is when he hit Lendl in an exhibition match.

:58:34.:58:56.

He is on another role now, seven games in a row again.

:58:57.:59:45.

It looks like it is going to be short, but it has been very sweet.

:59:46.:00:02.

That is in. Maybe somebody could tell Lu that there is a challenger

:00:03.:00:17.

next week somewhere. Get his confidence back after this beating.

:00:18.:00:32.

They might as well just shake hands now. It is staggeringly good. A

:00:33.:00:43.

treat for the 15,000 inside here. A good day. A great performance from

:00:44.:00:46.

Murray. I am surprised he missed it. Me as

:00:47.:01:19.

well. Well, he deserves again, though. He

:01:20.:02:08.

has to get into the minor leagues to work his way back up into the

:02:09.:02:13.

rankings. He deserves a couple of olds.

:02:14.:02:20.

So, just the icing on the cake really. And there has been no hint

:02:21.:02:58.

of a letup. When he hit the front he just got better and better. Well, it

:02:59.:03:09.

is nice to see spectacular athletes playing their best, rising to the

:03:10.:03:14.

occasion. Have you seen that? His wedding ring. I have one around my

:03:15.:03:22.

neck. It must be precarious if he has to change shoes. I hope he does

:03:23.:03:28.

not have to change shoes too often. We used to change them pretty

:03:29.:03:33.

frequently. It would be careless to lose it like that, wouldn't it? I

:03:34.:03:46.

used to wear my ring and it felt like it on the grip. You wore it on

:03:47.:03:53.

the left-hand and you could feel it. I had not thought of putting it on

:03:54.:03:56.

my speaker! -- shoes. He is getting a taste of his own

:03:57.:04:59.

medicine. It was a pretty tough shot to win that point.

:05:00.:05:43.

126. Somebody is getting booed for dropping the ball. Finally we are

:05:44.:06:01.

there. So, Murray is one game away. It is

:06:02.:06:37.

difficult sometimes when matches are so one-sided. How would you assess

:06:38.:06:43.

Murray's performance? He started slowly, Lu was on fire. He just rose

:06:44.:06:47.

to the occasion. It is pretty hard for anyone in the

:06:48.:07:01.

Murray can not to be feeling good does now. Also we have to mention he

:07:02.:07:08.

is conserving energy. I wonder if Lendl will congratulate him.

:07:09.:07:22.

That had some serious velocity on it. So, after an hour and 39 minutes

:07:23.:08:37.

it is match point. You know when people are amazed that

:08:38.:09:21.

you miss. People want to see him finish in spectacular style. It has

:09:22.:09:24.

been a spectacular performance. UMPIRE: Game, set and match, Murray.

:09:25.:10:07.

It was a glittering show, a tour de force from Andy Murray. 3-1 down in

:10:08.:10:19.

the opening set and he dropped to just three more games.

:10:20.:10:27.

SUE BARKER: What a wonderful performance from Andy Murray, that

:10:28.:10:33.

break of serve in the opening set, but then it was all straightforward.

:10:34.:10:37.

He goes through to the third round at Wimbledon to face John Millman

:10:38.:10:43.

who put out a seat today, then why appear. Wonderful scenes on Centre

:10:44.:10:49.

Court and no one will be going anywhere because Johanna Konta will

:10:50.:10:54.

be on court. A lot to look forward to so far today. We have lost 15

:10:55.:10:59.

seeds on day four and if there is more drama to come, you will be able

:11:00.:11:03.

to find out about it over on BBC Two. So, Lu leaves Centre Court, but

:11:04.:11:13.

he certainly started well and he certainly gave Murray something to

:11:14.:11:17.

worry about, but Murray well have a huge cheer. He marches on. He will

:11:18.:11:24.

sign a few autographs. We will have to lead BBC One, and we will hear

:11:25.:11:28.

from the British number one on BBC Two because we are on air their

:11:29.:11:35.

until at least 7:30pm tonight. Everybody is waiting for an

:11:36.:11:38.

autograph from their hero who has given as so many great moments on

:11:39.:11:44.

Centre Court. So, Britain's number one man is leaving Centre Court and

:11:45.:11:48.

Britain's number one woman is about to come on. Johanna Konta is playing

:11:49.:11:55.

Eugenie Bouchard of Canada, a former runner up. If you want to continue

:11:56.:12:00.

watching the tennis, switch over an hour to BBC Two. For now, though,

:12:01.:12:02.

goodbye.
