Sunday, a day of rest and contemplation. But not always,

:00:11.:00:19.

because every now and then something unexpected comes along. Three times

:00:20.:00:27.

in 139 years, these lawns have witnessed something magical. And now

:00:28.:00:34.

it's happening again. This is Wimbledon, but different. Today,

:00:35.:00:40.

Wimbledon opened its gates on the tournament's middle Sunday for the

:00:41.:00:44.

first time in its history. They come from far and wide for a chance, a

:00:45.:00:49.

special chance, to claim a seat at this hallowed ground. Are you mad?

:00:50.:00:58.

Yes. There's something in the air that makes the old feel young and

:00:59.:01:02.

sprinkles stardust on the great and good. It's a day of magic, a time to

:01:03.:01:12.

celebrate. This... Is People's Sunday.

:01:13.:01:49.

Hello and welcome to what promises to be a very special day here at

:01:50.:01:56.

Wimbledon. Everybody here bought their tickets online yesterday.

:01:57.:01:59.

There was queueing today because the show courts are first-come

:02:00.:02:05.

first-served, so 10,000 of the 15,000 seats here on Centre Court

:02:06.:02:10.

have already been taken and they can't wait for play to start at top

:02:11.:02:14.

in fact, the only gaps here, really, around the royal box because on the

:02:15.:02:19.

right, as the members have tickets, and on the left is the players'

:02:20.:02:23.

family and friends so that's the only gap on Centre Court but it runs

:02:24.:02:27.

is to be and blue and someone who knows all about that atmosphere is

:02:28.:02:31.

right here with me now, Tim Henman. I'm going to take you back to 1997.

:02:32.:02:37.

What was that feeling my quest It was amazing and very unexpected. At

:02:38.:02:41.

that stage it had only happened twice in Wimbledon history and I was

:02:42.:02:46.

playing against Paul Harle, and it was a standard match for me tick

:02:47.:02:53.

tock I lost the first set 7-6, won the next two, lost the fourth and

:02:54.:02:56.

eventually was able to come through. And that is a lot of hair! So just

:02:57.:03:01.

the easy match, what was the atmosphere like? It was without

:03:02.:03:08.

question the best atmosphere I ever played in front because in those

:03:09.:03:17.

days... You don't look very happy! It was incredible. I remember when

:03:18.:03:21.

we walked on the court and I didn't really know what to expect. The year

:03:22.:03:26.

before I had made a break, getting through to the quarterfinals, but we

:03:27.:03:29.

have the Mexican wave, there was cheering every Baltic tock Head

:03:30.:03:34.

down, walking off. I want you to look at this camera and apologise to

:03:35.:03:37.

all the people there that you didn't spank them as he walked off. I know.

:03:38.:03:42.

That was appalling. That was pathetic. As you say, it was

:03:43.:03:48.

wonderful and that was a match in some ways that launched you as well.

:03:49.:03:54.

Because of the nature, it was only the second time it has happened, it

:03:55.:03:58.

will work queueing throughout the night to get tickets. This year it

:03:59.:04:01.

was likely different because it was done online, but it was the true

:04:02.:04:05.

tennis fan that was in here and, as I said, the atmosphere was

:04:06.:04:10.

absolutely packed. It was probably the best much I ever played at

:04:11.:04:13.

Wimbledon but in terms of the drama, I remember he had match point on his

:04:14.:04:19.

serve and Paul very kindly served a double faults. I have reminded him

:04:20.:04:24.

too many times that, but to come through 14 Ivan 12 in the fifth, it

:04:25.:04:31.

was the longest set that I played. -- 14-12. The 90 descent of the

:04:32.:04:37.

people, it is their first experience at Wimbledon and they are so so

:04:38.:04:40.

excited. Should we get the wave going? Goal but we could try!

:04:41.:04:49.

It has faded miserably! Try again! I think they're warming up. I don't

:04:50.:05:07.

think it's quite 1997, is a? Not yet. It was an early start for them.

:05:08.:05:10.

I heard there were people queueing from 3am because they got their

:05:11.:05:14.

tickets but they wanted to get in and get their seat. Logistically,

:05:15.:05:20.

because you are on the committee, how difficult was it? It was only

:05:21.:05:25.

made on Friday, this decision to play on Sunday. From a tennis point

:05:26.:05:29.

of view, it's pretty straightforward. We still have

:05:30.:05:31.

second-round matches of the singles that needed to be played and if we

:05:32.:05:36.

don't play on the Sunday, there was going to be a scenario where you are

:05:37.:05:39.

playing third round singles, especially the women, on Monday, you

:05:40.:05:43.

got to play third round on Monday, fourth round on Tuesday,

:05:44.:05:47.

quarterfinal on Wednesday, semifinal on Thursday, and that we had good

:05:48.:05:50.

weather, so for a tennis point of view it was the most difficult

:05:51.:05:53.

decision. Logistically, by the scenes, for all the staff, whether

:05:54.:05:59.

it's the security or the catering of the Stuarts, it's difficult. Nobody

:06:00.:06:02.

was expecting to work but, again, it's just a special occasion and the

:06:03.:06:08.

people who work here are so supportive so hopefully everyone is

:06:09.:06:11.

going to enjoy their dated tock and it gives us a chance to see some new

:06:12.:06:17.

names on the show court, Alexander Zverev, everyone saying he could be

:06:18.:06:22.

new number one. He beat Roger Federer and has got a great game. He

:06:23.:06:29.

is six very aggressive, and is moving quickly. I was talking to his

:06:30.:06:34.

fitness trainer, who used to work with Andy Murray, and he was asking

:06:35.:06:40.

about this schedule and when I asked about the Centre Court match, he

:06:41.:06:43.

looked at me as if to say was I joking and I said absolutely not.

:06:44.:06:47.

The fans that are in here are really going to enjoy that. It is against

:06:48.:06:57.

Tomas Berdych, a former finalist. We have 12 singles matches that need to

:06:58.:07:00.

be completed today to get us back on contract, so let's take a look at

:07:01.:07:02.

where you'll be able to see them. Coco Vandeweghe made a hit last

:07:03.:07:12.

time. She is back again against Roberta Vinci. Her best is round 16

:07:13.:07:17.

but she beat Serena at the US Open and knows all about the big stage.

:07:18.:07:21.

Serena is a second, having come through that very difficult match

:07:22.:07:23.

against the scene Mikail, against Annika Beck, who took out what's on

:07:24.:07:29.

in the opening round. Alexander Zverev takes on Berdych. On Court

:07:30.:07:35.

Number One, Sloane Stephens was a quarterfinalist in 2013 and takes on

:07:36.:07:42.

select Lana Kuznetsova. -- Svetlana Kuznetsova.

:07:43.:07:50.

A fascinating match, Cady is against Lopez, two big servers. And then

:07:51.:07:58.

Jiri Vesely up against Joao Sousa. Another matches on the outside

:07:59.:08:02.

court, available online. So here is Serena Williams. This is

:08:03.:08:33.

earlier today, out on court 14. She thoroughly enjoyed this and good

:08:34.:08:36.

atmosphere and unlike Tim, I think she'll interact with the fans a lot

:08:37.:08:39.

more when she walks onto Centre Court. Nick Kyrgios are arriving

:08:40.:08:45.

here, looking like a busy man, and he will be a busy man on Court One,

:08:46.:08:52.

when he takes on Feliciano Lopez. One Mateen Del Potro, back in the

:08:53.:08:56.

Grand Slams once again, the former US Open champion, that was in 20 09.

:08:57.:09:01.

He is arriving to complete his match today. And Coco Vandeweghe. She will

:09:02.:09:06.

be in the locker room now getting ready to step onto the court, the

:09:07.:09:15.

quarterfinalist from last year. What a different day here. Some blue sky

:09:16.:09:19.

all around but let's hope it's going to stay with us all day and we can

:09:20.:09:22.

catch up with all these matches that are behind. Let's find out the

:09:23.:09:26.

latest from the man who knows, Darren Bett. Is it good news?

:09:27.:09:31.

Well I have much better news. We're not going to see a repeat

:09:32.:09:36.

performance of the weather yesterday. At the moment the

:09:37.:09:39.

temperature is about 18 or so and we are going to see the cloud bubbling

:09:40.:09:42.

up and spreading out some will turn more cloudy and we could just

:09:43.:09:46.

squeeze out an isolated light shower from this cloud. We haven't got the

:09:47.:09:51.

same depth of cloud so we're not going to see the same channel as we

:09:52.:09:54.

had yesterday and there is a good chance it will stay dry all. It is

:09:55.:09:58.

going to feel warmer, it does already, because the winds are

:09:59.:10:01.

lighter and we'll find afternoon temperature is around 21 or so and

:10:02.:10:05.

it should be a fine and mostly sunny evening in store. If you've got

:10:06.:10:09.

tickets for Monday or Tuesday, again, it's probably going to be

:10:10.:10:12.

dry. It looks like the rain should stay away, it will be quite warm and

:10:13.:10:17.

humid, temperatures around 23. So what we saw yesterday was a taste of

:10:18.:10:20.

something more typical of April but what we are going to see today and

:10:21.:10:25.

the next few days is something a bit more like summer, at long last.

:10:26.:10:30.

We have waited a long, long time. Thank you, Darren. That is great

:10:31.:10:36.

news for everyone. Everyone is talking about the massive shock

:10:37.:10:40.

yesterday, Novak Djokovic, who has looked virtually unbeatable on the

:10:41.:10:44.

big stage, was beaten by Sam Querry of the United States. Let's take a

:10:45.:10:46.

look at how that happened. 28-year-old Sam Querry is looking to

:10:47.:10:55.

cause the upset of the tournament, the upset of the year.

:10:56.:11:01.

A real shock brewing here. Djokovic fairly dominant in that

:11:02.:11:11.

set. Someone needs to take this by the

:11:12.:11:29.

scruff of the neck. It is absolutely pouring.

:11:30.:11:40.

This upset is not on the cards yet. It's so close to a famous victory.

:11:41.:12:11.

But here come the court covers once again.

:12:12.:12:16.

He's done it! A massive win for Sam Querry. A massive shock at Wimbledon

:12:17.:12:28.

2016. It's incredible, especially to do it here at Wimbledon, the biggest

:12:29.:12:32.

tournament of the world. And so ecstatic right now. Well done. Were

:12:33.:12:39.

you concerned going into the match? No. No reason that any concern? You

:12:40.:12:49.

didn't seem yourself. As I said, I don't want to talk about it. Please

:12:50.:12:50.

respect that. No reason given by Novak Djokovic,

:12:51.:13:00.

he didn't want to talk about it, but he didn't look himself, did he? At

:13:01.:13:04.

any time in a match he didn't look quite right it up in the first two

:13:05.:13:10.

sets, which was played on the Friday evening, Querry was absolutely

:13:11.:13:12.

amazing. He only dropped four points in the second set and was doing

:13:13.:13:19.

well. At the end of the second set, it was almost as if Djokovic was in

:13:20.:13:23.

shock. He was serving very half-heartedly and hit a couple of

:13:24.:13:29.

really poor volleys, and this was some of the dominant play. When they

:13:30.:13:34.

came out on Saturday, it it was much trickier conditions, it was windy,

:13:35.:13:43.

and I think there's some water falling down from the roof. We'll

:13:44.:13:50.

see that in a minute because we're on this BT but there is a bit of

:13:51.:13:55.

water falling on some spectators on Centre Court. Querrey played well,

:13:56.:13:59.

of course he did, but Djokovic wasn't moving but he wasn't being

:14:00.:14:07.

aggressive, was he? No, and I think mentally he looked very distracted.

:14:08.:14:10.

In the second part of the match yesterday, there was never the same

:14:11.:14:14.

rhythm. It was a bit windy, it was stopped I can start with the weather

:14:15.:14:17.

conditions, but Querrey did very well to keep going. Because Djokovic

:14:18.:14:25.

has set the bar so high in the last three or four years in the biggest

:14:26.:14:29.

events, we always expect him to get away to come through those matches

:14:30.:14:32.

and yesterday he wasn't able to do that. Oh, dear. That's what's

:14:33.:14:37.

happening underneath because the roof is moving to the other side of

:14:38.:14:42.

the court, because they do leave it open, don't they, over on the same

:14:43.:14:47.

side overnight? They put it on the north side so that the sun gets more

:14:48.:14:50.

light into the court but when they've been moving it back to the

:14:51.:14:56.

southern end, there is some water, I think, that is probably in the

:14:57.:15:00.

canopy and some unfortunate spectators - hopefully it wasn't

:15:01.:15:03.

them, not sure my mum would like her hair wet. They're in the front row

:15:04.:15:11.

of the Royal box. Someone must have pulled out! First and second

:15:12.:15:14.

reserve. They will be looking forward to it. I'm sure they'll be a

:15:15.:15:17.

bit more relaxed watching it today than they were in 1997. Sam Querry,

:15:18.:15:23.

a big, big serve but he's improved in other departments as well, hasn't

:15:24.:15:28.

he? He has a lot of good results on grass and he was serving 131, 132

:15:29.:15:35.

mph, but he was serving accurately and for me Djokovic is the best

:15:36.:15:40.

return in the history of the game. You serve 31 aces, that's a great

:15:41.:15:43.

foundation for the rest of your game. It means you can be a bit

:15:44.:15:47.

freer, more aggressive, and that's exactly the way he played and

:15:48.:15:53.

there's no doubt that Djokovic's level dipped and to what was able to

:15:54.:15:56.

take advantage of that. Moving forward we know it's not always easy

:15:57.:16:00.

to back that performance at. It is the first time he has bit able --

:16:01.:16:07.

beaten world number one. He blows a guy in the next round with a proven

:16:08.:16:14.

grass court record. But you can't underestimate, as far as Djokovic is

:16:15.:16:16.

concerned, the pressure he's been under. When Boris came to talk to us

:16:17.:16:22.

at Queen's, he was saying, now he's going to have to draw all four Grand

:16:23.:16:27.

Slams at the same time and now they're talking about the calida

:16:28.:16:31.

Grand Slam. He is human after all. Very much so and I was listening to

:16:32.:16:35.

that interview with you and Boris and he was busy talking about just

:16:36.:16:38.

taking it one match at a time and staying in the present and that's

:16:39.:16:41.

what you've always got to do. It would have been very difficult on

:16:42.:16:44.

Friday night to be down to five and zero and retain that belief but he

:16:45.:16:51.

did so for the fourth set and he wasn't able to do it and as I said,

:16:52.:16:56.

there is that human element. In sport you can't always play your

:16:57.:17:00.

best it keys won four Grand Slams in a row and had an incredible run and

:17:01.:17:05.

that run has come to an end. It was interesting when that result came

:17:06.:17:09.

out it Hole of Centre Court went, wow! It really has opened up the

:17:10.:17:17.

draw because you mentioned he's playing... Roger Federer is in that

:17:18.:17:22.

half so I'm sure Roger will... Definitely. Everyone has been

:17:23.:17:27.

looking at a Djokovic- Murray final. That's not going to happen. I think

:17:28.:17:33.

Raonic is looking like the favourite to get through to the semifinals.

:17:34.:17:37.

Played well at Queen's. Fedor is slowly finding his form.

:17:38.:17:52.

For the Djokovic loss to have any bearing on Andy Murray, he has to

:17:53.:17:57.

get through to the final and he is a long way from that, he's playing

:17:58.:18:00.

great tennis and he'll have an interesting challenge the round,

:18:01.:18:04.

playing the winner of Lopez and Kate Yost. The busy likes this court,

:18:05.:18:12.

Andy Murray, he's on it every day. Away from prying eyes, although

:18:13.:18:15.

we've managed to film him. He is with his team and also Evander

:18:16.:18:21.

Lendl. A day off for Andy but very focused. Very focused and Andy has

:18:22.:18:27.

been really fortunate with the way his schedule has gone. He's

:18:28.:18:31.

benefited from playing on Centre Court, which has the roof, and he's

:18:32.:18:35.

been able to play Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday. He hasn't been affected by

:18:36.:18:40.

the weather at all. Not at all and it's important. You saw in Paris

:18:41.:18:44.

when he had a five set matches at the tournament, that can be

:18:45.:18:46.

detrimental but he's absolutely right where he wants to be. He's got

:18:47.:18:51.

the first week out of the way and will be ready to look forward into

:18:52.:18:54.

the second week. They are a good team, Lendl and Murray. They have a

:18:55.:18:59.

good laugh together. I don't know if it is a similar sense of humour. I

:19:00.:19:03.

think as with most people with Lendl, Andy will have to do a lot of

:19:04.:19:07.

listening. Lendl could talk underwater most of the time but he

:19:08.:19:11.

is a good character and I think obviously the benefit of having

:19:12.:19:13.

worked together before, it wasn't like Lendl had to come in and

:19:14.:19:17.

understand how the team worked. He knew the way Andy played and what he

:19:18.:19:21.

likes to do, so that seems like it's going pretty well. What about Roger

:19:22.:19:26.

Federer? You know him well. Have you been to see him? I've seen a little

:19:27.:19:30.

bit of them and he's had such a difficult year, probably the most

:19:31.:19:33.

challenging of his whole career, with having to have a knee operation

:19:34.:19:37.

after the Australian Open it up he had some illness and some back

:19:38.:19:39.

trouble so has never really found the rhythm this year but to play two

:19:40.:19:42.

grass court tournaments prior to this, he played in Stuttgart, and I

:19:43.:19:47.

think he played seven matches in ten days, so he is moving in the right

:19:48.:19:49.

direction. APPLAUSE

:19:50.:19:53.

The applause for the bald person who has walked out on Centre Court but

:19:54.:19:58.

Roger Federer... Steve Johnson has done well on the grass, winning at

:19:59.:20:02.

Nottingham, won a few grounds at Queen's. And had a good win against

:20:03.:20:08.

Grigor Dimitrov. I thought dinner drop was going to come through that.

:20:09.:20:15.

-- Grigor Dimitrov was going to come through that. It's gone very quiet

:20:16.:20:23.

here all of a sudden. Everyone is probably a bit nervous. You said 90%

:20:24.:20:27.

of people had never been before and I'm sure they will warm up. They're

:20:28.:20:33.

rather players that our first match, Coco Vandeweghe leading ahead of

:20:34.:20:38.

Roberta Vinci, who reached the US Open final last year and Coco is a

:20:39.:20:44.

big hitter, a big serve, and she thoroughly enjoyed her Centre Court

:20:45.:20:48.

experience, but look at the difference in height and stature. US

:20:49.:20:52.

Open finalist, beat Serena and she has actually got her highest ranking

:20:53.:20:57.

when 33 years of age, so a big day for both of them. Lets hope they

:20:58.:21:01.

have a special welcome here on Centre Court.

:21:02.:21:06.

It's lovely to see a virtual full house here on Centre Court for this

:21:07.:21:29.

match, which will be very interesting. Sam Smith has joined

:21:30.:21:32.

us. I was talking about the difference in size but Vinci is no

:21:33.:21:39.

pushover. You got each end of the spectrum of modern women's tennis,

:21:40.:21:43.

cocoa with a massive personality, massive game, and the fans are going

:21:44.:21:47.

to see something... The way she cracks that serve, my generation

:21:48.:21:50.

will be happy they are not playing, but someone like Vinci could be from

:21:51.:21:54.

my generation, it is all chips and slices and it still shows that if

:21:55.:21:56.

you have skills and you are talented, you may not have the power

:21:57.:21:59.

but you can still compete. But she needs body armour. I Finco colas

:22:00.:22:05.

this atmosphere. When she was playing out of the second match, she

:22:06.:22:08.

was within the crowd and I think she's going to do a bit of that

:22:09.:22:11.

today because you get the energy. Tim, well done on the scheduling!

:22:12.:22:20.

Coco's grandmother was a Miss American, her grandfather was a New

:22:21.:22:23.

York Mick. In that family you've got to have a big personality or you are

:22:24.:22:28.

completely forgotten. The crowd will be into her and Vinci is pretty fun.

:22:29.:22:34.

She is not one of these automatons. She is going to be gesticulating and

:22:35.:22:37.

saying allsorts of bad words in Italian and when I saw the schedule

:22:38.:22:41.

I thought, well done, because this is perfect for what is very excited

:22:42.:22:46.

crowd out there. She's interesting, Vinci, highest ranking at the age of

:22:47.:22:50.

33. It's never too late but she's got that kind of game. I'm not sure

:22:51.:22:55.

about the grass. She should have done far better and possibly

:22:56.:23:00.

Vandeweghe comes out here the slight favourite if she serves well but

:23:01.:23:04.

Vinci is a player that should have done so much better at Wimbledon

:23:05.:23:07.

over the years but still very suspicious of this service because

:23:08.:23:12.

it is not play. Have you ever known a first week like it, particularly

:23:13.:23:16.

in the women's, losing so many seed? No, I've got my draw here after rain

:23:17.:23:21.

with last me a difficult question. There is still enough in it. You

:23:22.:23:28.

still got Svetlana Kuznetsova. She is one of the older ones, a former

:23:29.:23:33.

two-time Grand Slam champion. You got Serena Williams, who is still

:23:34.:23:37.

the favourite then it starts to thin out. You've got a cracking match

:23:38.:23:47.

between Radwanska and Cibulkova. The bottom half looks stronger. You've

:23:48.:23:53.

got curb, Venus Williams, Simona Halep two I thought was fabulous on

:23:54.:23:57.

Centre Court yesterday, and Lucie Safarova, a former semifinalist who

:23:58.:24:00.

has found some form and is a very good grass court player. The bottom

:24:01.:24:03.

half looks stronger than the top half. No Kvitova on the bottom half

:24:04.:24:09.

of that up you would expect them to go through. I couldn't believe the

:24:10.:24:12.

Muguruza lost on the second round because I watched the match on

:24:13.:24:18.

Centre Court or Court One and I thought she looked fabulous. Isil

:24:19.:24:22.

Kvitova yesterday and not the champion that we noted Hawk-Eye

:24:23.:24:24.

don't know what's happened with her tennis but didn't look on it at all.

:24:25.:24:28.

Not sure what's happening with the roof. They are having a bit of fun

:24:29.:24:33.

playing with the remote control, making sure it is well oiled. I

:24:34.:24:40.

think it is in position now. I think it. British loo because fingers

:24:41.:24:43.

crossed, we are not going to need it. Darren has assured us we are

:24:44.:24:47.

going to have some dry weather. Talked to was a bit about Serena

:24:48.:24:51.

because she came through that amazing match against Christina

:24:52.:24:54.

McHale but only just. Again, it is one of those. I think for Serena, we

:24:55.:25:00.

need to go back to what happened at the US Open last year. I think

:25:01.:25:04.

psychologically it rocked her completely, losing that much, and

:25:05.:25:09.

Mchale is a very fine player. She could match Serena athletically, got

:25:10.:25:14.

a good serve, good forehand and Serena has enormous aura and

:25:15.:25:17.

presence at Wimbledon more than anywhere else but I think it is on

:25:18.:25:22.

the wane. Players think they can win. It is one of those sinless and

:25:23.:25:26.

arias we've talked a lot about with Djokovic and Serena is so good at

:25:27.:25:28.

coming through the difficult matches and time and time again she wins.

:25:29.:25:33.

She has given itself an opportunity in the second week, where is

:25:34.:25:36.

Djokovic have a difficult match and couldn't find a way to get through

:25:37.:25:40.

it so for me, she is deftly the player to be. She is the ultimate

:25:41.:25:44.

champion here at Wimbledon. She just does dig deep, doesn't she, and at

:25:45.:25:48.

the end of it choose almost angry with herself. She wants this record,

:25:49.:25:53.

whether she tries to downplay it or what. Everyone else wants to do it

:25:54.:25:59.

and the great advantage that Serena has is she has the best serve in the

:26:00.:26:02.

women's game so everything else can be going horribly wrong, as long as

:26:03.:26:07.

you commit that serve she's OK, but I still wouldn't trust Serena to not

:26:08.:26:11.

have a few problems against Annika Beck who is a really fine athlete to

:26:12.:26:15.

talk I do think there has been a shift in women's tennis because of

:26:16.:26:19.

that Vinci match last year. A lot of the lower ranked players think now

:26:20.:26:22.

they can beat the big names and I know in my day 20 years ago, did we

:26:23.:26:26.

believe we were going to beat Martina and Monica Seles? Not

:26:27.:26:31.

really. After the knockout week, the first two games, we knew the writing

:26:32.:26:34.

was on the wall. But lower ranked players, I don't know what you think

:26:35.:26:37.

in the men's game, I think they really believe, the women, that they

:26:38.:26:41.

can take them out. Very much so, and you are always trying to paint a

:26:42.:26:44.

picture in your own mind of how the upset is going to be possible and in

:26:45.:26:48.

the men's, the top four have been so dominant and then Murray and

:26:49.:26:51.

Djokovic have separated themselves. Djokovic clearly the number one but

:26:52.:26:55.

an upset like Querrey eating Djokovic is going to be good for

:26:56.:27:03.

everyone. -- beating. We're talking about the calendar Grand Slam. How

:27:04.:27:06.

is she this year compared to last year? She hasn't had as many

:27:07.:27:10.

tournaments or as many wins. She's been good when she's needed to be

:27:11.:27:15.

good. The only real blips have been in the final of the Australian Open

:27:16.:27:18.

and the final of the French Open, when they came up against two

:27:19.:27:21.

players who were on red-hot form, who actually believed they could

:27:22.:27:25.

beat her. I know age shouldn't be a factor that Serena is 35 after the

:27:26.:27:30.

US Open and I think the nerves have become more difficult for her. A lot

:27:31.:27:33.

of the older players have talked about how they get more nervous as

:27:34.:27:38.

they get older. There's more players, starting to push in early

:27:39.:27:42.

rounds. I still think she's the greatest player and I think there's

:27:43.:27:48.

more slams in her but it's not getting any easier. I don't then she

:27:49.:27:52.

is as quick as she used to be. It is interesting how Feder and Serena are

:27:53.:27:55.

both still so hungry for success with all they've achieved. It's not

:27:56.:28:01.

so difficult when you are playing an event like this but to be there

:28:02.:28:04.

travelling the tool 30 weeks of the year playing in all the tournaments,

:28:05.:28:09.

so disciplined, the training and travel... Hold on, Tim, who is this?

:28:10.:28:15.

It's the twins, the little Federer wins. Leo and Lenny. He had the twin

:28:16.:28:21.

girls in the player's box for the first Centre Court matches. When

:28:22.:28:28.

Roger is often playing, the two girls, the twin daughters, are quite

:28:29.:28:34.

often doing their crayon in and cartooning. They are not interested

:28:35.:28:39.

in dad at all! Sam, time has been called so are you going to pick a

:28:40.:28:43.

winner for this one? How do you see the match going? I'm going to go

:28:44.:28:48.

with power, Vandeweghe. Sam, Tim, thank you very much. Time has been

:28:49.:28:52.

called so we'd better move away from Centre Court, so let's join our

:28:53.:28:56.

commentators, Louise Pleming and Barry Davies.

:28:57.:29:01.

COMMENTATOR: We're going to start with power because Coco Vandeweghe

:29:02.:29:08.

won the toss and this is no surprise. This is the last practice

:29:09.:29:12.

of. We have a huge contrast in styles between these two players,

:29:13.:29:16.

one seeded for the first time ever, Vandeweghe, the American, and Vinci,

:29:17.:29:26.

who is now aged 33 and seeded number six. Louise Pleming, this will be in

:29:27.:29:33.

adjusting contest. It certainly will, Barry. It is rather exciting

:29:34.:29:37.

to see when two players coming to a match or an event, both having their

:29:38.:29:43.

career high rankings, both players very confident so far in the

:29:44.:29:49.

tournament. They've had some really good matches, with Coco Vandeweghe,

:29:50.:29:54.

she is on fire. Should cease action today. There was prolonged applause

:29:55.:30:03.

when the ladies came onto court. Now total silence.

:30:04.:30:26.

The crowd will cease real fireworks come from the racket of Coco

:30:27.:30:28.

Vandeweghe today. Both players on the board early,

:30:29.:31:11.

which is nice. The crowd is weak to applaud every thing.

:31:12.:31:30.

One is power, and one is very clever. Vinci is just marked player,

:31:31.:31:39.

uses her variation extremely well. Tends to dismantle her opponents

:31:40.:31:40.

rather than overpower them. The sound of the forehand just

:31:41.:32:01.

resonates through Centre Court. That's very much how it has been

:32:02.:32:54.

going with the serving of Coco Vandeweghe. Just look at the

:32:55.:32:58.

statistics. You would have to say that Vinci has

:32:59.:33:22.

to serve well. She doesn't want to go behind.

:33:23.:33:32.

Kakko this year so far has served 156 aces, and only 103 double

:33:33.:33:38.

faults, which is a terrific conversion.

:33:39.:34:04.

By contrast, Vinci, 59 aces and 55 double faults, not having the same

:34:05.:34:10.

impact. She is a brave woman, Roberta Vinci,

:34:11.:34:48.

serving and volleying into the forehand wing of Vandeweghe.

:34:49.:34:54.

Probably the safest pair of hands, though, Roberta Vinci. Number one in

:34:55.:34:59.

the world in doubles the many years. Difficult part of the match today

:35:00.:35:27.

for Roberta Vinci is to be able to neutralise these big shots from

:35:28.:35:31.

Vandeweghe and to try to get her moving. Expose the movement a little

:35:32.:35:37.

bit of cocoa. It is not her best asset. She is 6'1", Vinci is 5'4".

:35:38.:35:58.

I bet Vinci wishes he was 6'1". That was a big serve. 110 mph.

:35:59.:37:17.

Coco just sensing when Vinci was under a little stress. Slice that

:37:18.:37:24.

back and back, and that is when you can get in and take control of the

:37:25.:37:25.

volley. Good awareness. Starting and finishing with an ace.

:37:26.:38:02.

That is the style we will see, it is quite clear to all. She looks very

:38:03.:38:11.

happy with life. The American. There is a different sort of us in the

:38:12.:38:19.

crowd today. I can't give you exactly the feel of it, but it is

:38:20.:38:24.

just a bit different. It is all a bonus, isn't it? It is. It is a

:38:25.:38:30.

lovely Sunday, and they are getting to watch some to rid the tennis, and

:38:31.:38:35.

it is just so nice to watch a player like Coco Vandeweghe, she is a

:38:36.:38:39.

breath of fresh air, enjoys being on the court. You can see that relaxed

:38:40.:38:45.

smile looking Brad Tagg coach. -- looking over at her coach. We have

:38:46.:38:48.

been working together for just over a year. He has had a remarkable

:38:49.:38:55.

influence on her tennis. He has got her to focus on doubles, and it has

:38:56.:38:59.

will it helped a lot. She has a very high doubles ranking, top 20.

:39:00.:40:06.

That is where it is hard, the change of pace.

:40:07.:40:38.

The crowd loved that! I thought that was almost a perfect point. A

:40:39.:40:53.

terrific backhand from band awake, it looked like there was smoke

:40:54.:40:58.

coming from the racket. -- terrific backhand from Coco Vandeweghe. And

:40:59.:41:02.

the drop shot was to be the placement.

:41:03.:41:15.

She did the right thing, but couldn't find the right volley.

:41:16.:41:56.

That is superb! Not the power, but the length. It is total confidence

:41:57.:42:56.

coming off the racket of Vandeweghe. For me there are two players are

:42:57.:43:00.

turn into different characters when they walk onto grass, and Coco

:43:01.:43:08.

Vandeweghe is one of them. Sabine Lisicki the other.

:43:09.:43:30.

Hardly a breath of wind on the court. That is an advantage to

:43:31.:43:37.

Vandeweghe. Those big swings. She has twice been concerned by the

:43:38.:43:38.

toss. It's just a matter of being in the

:43:39.:44:14.

right place at the right time for Vinci. Read this like a book. Just

:44:15.:44:17.

leans in. Just the right foot. Went from under

:44:18.:44:34.

her. Balance is key for a player like

:44:35.:45:02.

Coco, 6'1". She's a very strong built athlete. Got to get the feet

:45:03.:45:06.

right. Wow! Improvised once again. This is

:45:07.:45:34.

a new one in the book. Very difficult to teach that one, Barry.

:45:35.:45:44.

You might see a few of those shots played on the local park.

:45:45.:46:11.

Still smiling. I must say, that is nice to see. You don't see too many

:46:12.:46:23.

sportspeople smiling when they are actually doing their thing. I think

:46:24.:46:28.

it is such a great asset to have that relaxed feeling about yourself.

:46:29.:46:32.

To be able to come out here and enjoy this moment, the hallowed

:46:33.:46:35.

ground of Centre Court, Wimbledon, the biggest occasion of Coco

:46:36.:46:41.

Vandeweghe's career, and yet she is able to recognise that, be present,

:46:42.:46:45.

and just enjoy this. It is ready great to see. And I think it will

:46:46.:46:48.

help her with longevity in her career. She is made for grass. She

:46:49.:46:58.

shows that in her warm up matches. The semifinal in Birmingham on the

:46:59.:47:06.

way. She has had a horrific run. -- a horrific run. -- a horrific run.

:47:07.:47:35.

Vinci really has to hold here otherwise is opening set will be

:47:36.:47:37.

over too soon. So hard for Vinci to change face and

:47:38.:47:50.

use her slice and variation because she has to control the power.

:47:51.:48:06.

Nothing you can do about that. That is superb hitting. Free swinging

:48:07.:48:14.

from Coco Vandeweghe. 75 mph they serve. Came back at 150!

:48:15.:48:59.

This one just not connecting through the middle of the racket. Landing

:49:00.:49:02.

short. Terrific forehand from Vinci. She's not just the motor car, she is

:49:03.:49:30.

a sports car, and she has to control that power.

:49:31.:49:40.

Oh! That was on course to land just in, turned away the last moment.

:49:41.:49:51.

Roberta Vinci's coach. Terrific placement from Vinci, right

:49:52.:50:06.

into the corner. She has to keep changing her serve, be accurate, not

:50:07.:50:11.

let Coco Vandeweghe yes where she is going to often.

:50:12.:50:47.

That's what the crowd needed on the Italian side.

:50:48.:51:18.

Defending initially, but chose the wrong course. Running off to the

:51:19.:51:27.

other side, I won the ball, but still the ability to put the ball

:51:28.:51:28.

back behind the running player. She's getting so much work of that

:51:29.:51:54.

second serve. She can accelerate the racket head. Spin gives of the

:51:55.:51:56.

control. Full charge ahead on all occasions

:51:57.:52:20.

from Coco. She just has to commit to the power. Good closing on the high

:52:21.:52:23.

backhand. STUDIO: Are going the way of and

:52:24.:53:07.

awake on Centre Court. Let's show you what is happening elsewhere. --

:53:08.:53:13.

going the way of Coco Vandeweghe. Over on Court Number One we have

:53:14.:53:17.

Sloane Stephens against Svetlana Kuznetsova. A three-time

:53:18.:53:22.

quarterfinalist here, and they are on Court at the moment. Svetlana

:53:23.:53:32.

Kuznetsova is leading 4-3 games. Confirmation of the score there.

:53:33.:53:38.

That is on the red button. On Court Number Two, what a story. Timea

:53:39.:53:47.

Bacsinszky had a foot injury and give up tennis and then got an

:53:48.:53:52.

e-mail saying, do you want to come in the French Open qualifier. And so

:53:53.:53:55.

without any practice she went to the French Open, lost the match, but it

:53:56.:53:58.

reignited her love of tennis and here she is as the number 11 seed.

:53:59.:54:04.

3-3 in our game against Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. Other matches

:54:05.:54:11.

available online. Here we rejoin Centre Court.

:54:12.:54:25.

COMMENTATOR: This band. Not too many players used in these days.

:54:26.:55:05.

We made the point about Vinci giving extra power back to Vandeweghe. You

:55:06.:55:14.

want to try to take the shot away from the Vandeweghe.

:55:15.:55:34.

She wants to try to get that ball away from the hip height contact

:55:35.:55:39.

point that Vandeweghe likes to swing at. Push her back deck. -- push back

:55:40.:55:44.

deep. Oh! Just too wide, otherwise that

:55:45.:56:13.

was a beautiful rally played by the Italian.

:56:14.:56:25.

Goodness me! You would afford her opponent was more likely to be

:56:26.:57:06.

caught for a foot fault. REFEREE: Mrs Vandeweghe challenges

:57:07.:57:32.

the call. A little wry smile from Roberta Vinci. Back in this game.

:57:33.:58:11.

You just don't know when they run errors are coming from Vandeweghe.

:58:12.:58:25.

We saw three pretty easy ones there. Serving for the opening set.

:58:26.:58:51.

Oh! Very brave. And delightful to watch. Just to rethink hands. A

:58:52.:59:09.

great touch from Vinci. She covers the court so well, understands the

:59:10.:59:11.

net. Great variation. The nod of approval

:59:12.:00:04.

from the coach. Slowed the pace up, opened up the court.

:00:05.:00:30.

It's quite remarkable how she can just duplicate the power over and

:00:31.:00:41.

over. Such a strong base with the legs, a powerful unit. Two set

:00:42.:00:45.

points. It's not easy for Vinci. She's

:00:46.:01:13.

having to come up with something very special time and time again to

:01:14.:01:15.

win a point. She deserves the applause from both

:01:16.:02:04.

coach and the crowd. Quite an exhibition of her capabilities here.

:02:05.:02:19.

Strong volleying, excellent serve, and her opponent is making her have

:02:20.:02:22.

to play at best. She must feel very confident that she's going to win

:02:23.:02:31.

this. It's wonderful to see the variation. I really enjoyed watching

:02:32.:02:38.

Vinci as well. The contrast is just so interesting to watch. This was a

:02:39.:02:44.

great shot. She had to improvise time and time again. The smiles from

:02:45.:02:51.

Coco Vandeweghe has just been interesting to see and that is going

:02:52.:02:57.

to help her a lot. First serve percentage is good for Vinci but

:02:58.:03:01.

that's hard to keep holding from the big power from Vandeweghe.

:03:02.:03:14.

Very good stats. She's able to penetrate through the court and

:03:15.:03:19.

really blow her opponent away from the baseline, from the serve. Big

:03:20.:03:27.

all-round. She's in the top half of the draw.

:03:28.:03:49.

It would be interesting to see how she would play against somebody who

:03:50.:03:53.

could also bombed the ball at her. That reaction understandable. She

:03:54.:04:40.

really can't afford to make errors like that. Doesn't matter the

:04:41.:04:47.

language, everybody knows how she feels.

:04:48.:05:05.

Slice, slice, slice and then He must be so happy with the way she's come

:05:06.:05:24.

out here today. The play just looks so solid. Everything she's done, she

:05:25.:05:31.

looks very clean, strong. The legs, the fist pump, her attitude. It's

:05:32.:05:35.

just so high and it's frustrating for Vinci.

:05:36.:07:39.

That's a good serve from Vandeweghe but Vinci is just having to work so

:07:40.:07:45.

hard and hoping that Coco might just lose a little focus, give her a

:07:46.:07:48.

little opening somewhere in this match.

:07:49.:08:21.

Just a couple of errors coming from the backhand side of Vandeweghe. And

:08:22.:08:29.

for only the second time in this championship, Vandeweghe on break

:08:30.:08:35.

point. Wow! All things are possible in the

:08:36.:09:02.

sporting arena. That's just given a real list to

:09:03.:09:20.

Vinci. And the crowd. And let's see how Coco Vandeweghe response to

:09:21.:09:21.

that. -- responds. A pretty high take back on that

:09:22.:09:36.

backhand side from Coco. On grass, you really want to keep your hands

:09:37.:09:41.

behind the ball and track with a height of the ball. Sometimes she

:09:42.:09:44.

can just lose her timing a little. So intelligent here for the Italian.

:09:45.:10:15.

Vinci really just asking the questions of Vandeweghe, trying to

:10:16.:10:21.

get inside her head a little bit here.

:10:22.:10:51.

Been together for a lot of years, Roberto and her coach. That's great

:10:52.:11:06.

hitting from Roberta Vinci, just using the pace of Vandeweghe's

:11:07.:11:12.

return. You play fast, you have to move fast and that's where Coco

:11:13.:11:14.

sometimes gets out of position. In danger of unravelling all she's

:11:15.:11:46.

achieved. Another piece of improvisation but

:11:47.:12:24.

it couldn't quite come off. I think that's the word for this

:12:25.:12:40.

match, improvising, because you have to think fast on your feet when

:12:41.:12:43.

you're playing somebody that hits the ball this big. Just has

:12:44.:12:51.

incredible power, Vandeweghe. It is the split step, strong moving to the

:12:52.:12:54.

ball. There's the hands, getting back behind, early take back, with

:12:55.:13:00.

that big wind-up, and then leans in. There's the line she likes to hit up

:13:01.:13:03.

but that ball really penetrating through. Hits from quite a high part

:13:04.:13:11.

of the court, so she's got plenty of room to go in. That's 89 mph, where

:13:12.:13:18.

it's coming through very fast, and that doesn't give Vinci a lot of

:13:19.:13:22.

time for her preparation. She needs to be really moving very fast so she

:13:23.:13:27.

can somehow defuse these big powerful shots and try to get

:13:28.:13:32.

Vandeweghe moving either forwards through the corners of the court,

:13:33.:13:37.

and take a little bit of time away. It's just not hard to do off that

:13:38.:13:39.

heavy hitting. That's what the coaches tell you. If

:13:40.:15:05.

you're not happy with the toss, don't hit the ball to.

:15:06.:15:49.

Really quite a warm day after you see the sunshine.

:15:50.:16:09.

Slowing that one down a little. She knew from the moment she contacted

:16:10.:16:17.

that that it was just going to fly. Just got little in front of her.

:16:18.:16:34.

Just struggling with that placement on the toss.

:16:35.:16:44.

Good job she wasn't playing on Centre Court yesterday or any of the

:16:45.:16:52.

other outside courts. Oh, that's a very good response to what was a

:16:53.:16:57.

testing shop from her opponent. UMPIRE: Miss Vandeweghe challenged

:16:58.:17:06.

the ball. UMPIRE: Game, Miss Vandeweghe. I

:17:07.:17:59.

would like to see a little bit more feistiness every once in awhile from

:18:00.:18:03.

Coco Vandeweghe. I think if she's to go to the next level really push

:18:04.:18:09.

Serena Williams, I'd just like to see her use her physically imposing

:18:10.:18:13.

stature a little bit more, show a bit more aggression.

:18:14.:18:22.

That's great play from Vinci. Do you agree a little bit there, just to

:18:23.:18:32.

see a little bit more feistiness? She's a bit too much of a gentle

:18:33.:18:39.

giant out there. Use some of that body language.

:18:40.:18:55.

Got the short reply. Roberta getting out nice and quick, getting that

:18:56.:18:58.

ball out through the court. It's just hard for Roberta Vinci not

:18:59.:19:54.

to feel like she's just a passenger in this match. It is all being

:19:55.:20:00.

controlled by Vandeweghe. That was an astonishing pick-up which she

:20:01.:20:03.

couldn't then carry on. Her first ace. Such a contrast of

:20:04.:20:19.

styles. Good positivity coming from the

:20:20.:21:07.

Italian and she needs every bit of that. She has to do is hang in, in

:21:08.:21:13.

hope that Coco Vandeweghe will go off boil a little bit. How is your

:21:14.:21:17.

Italian? There is something written on that left arm.

:21:18.:21:27.

Just has to bring everything she can to try to somehow dismantle Coco

:21:28.:21:35.

Vandeweghe and make her feel a little uncomfortable and try to get

:21:36.:21:44.

her movement exposed. And somehow get some momentum in this match.

:21:45.:21:51.

People watching will be a bit surprised to find that she is up

:21:52.:22:03.

six. Just came into the court. She's on the rise, Vandeweghe, there is

:22:04.:22:04.

question about that. Quicker with their applause this

:22:05.:23:08.

time. Last time they were a bit slow coming in with Hawk-Eye.

:23:09.:23:41.

Oh, yes. Beautiful placement. Yeah, absolutely. Just able to control

:23:42.:23:57.

this depth, just using the pace of her opponent again.

:23:58.:24:12.

You drop a point, the next point you make it just disappeared.

:24:13.:24:27.

Just allows her to relax, returning games when they can keep holding

:24:28.:24:38.

like this. When you are winning 95% of your own service games. A double

:24:39.:24:46.

fault in the last service game but when you are serving 12 of 15 aces,

:24:47.:24:51.

I should say in the tournament, it's OK to do through three double faults

:24:52.:24:53.

in. Who cares? Couldn't have been closer. She plays

:24:54.:25:20.

much more like a male player, always looking to come forward. Such a

:25:21.:25:25.

great smash. Such a weapon to have. She can control all Di mentions of

:25:26.:25:30.

the court. Six is, she really can get up. -- 6'1". She has the

:25:31.:25:44.

advantage of being tall but she does get up to a natural leap, for want

:25:45.:25:46.

of a better word. Not sure, but decides not to employ

:25:47.:26:09.

Hawk-Eye. Staying in the contest.

:26:10.:26:58.

SUE BARKER: Still a break of serve for Coco Vandeweghe on Centre Court,

:26:59.:27:01.

and we'll be back there in a moment, but over on Court Number One it is

:27:02.:27:06.

Sloane Stephens who has come through that first set tie-breaker event

:27:07.:27:10.

against Kuznetsova. That match is on Court One and you can watch it live

:27:11.:27:15.

on the red button if you want to. And over on Court Number Two...

:27:16.:27:21.

Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova of Russia has taken the first set over the

:27:22.:27:26.

higher ranked to me a pitch in ski but she's taken that six Ivan 3-iron

:27:27.:27:31.

is already a break of serve up in the second. You can watch that

:27:32.:27:35.

online on the BBC Sport app or connected TV. That is the match is

:27:36.:27:41.

happening elsewhere earlier today. Plenty more to come in this lovely

:27:42.:27:51.

weather but now let's rejoin centre. COMMENTATOR: Looking at a very

:27:52.:27:58.

thoughtful Roberta Vinci. Championship behind the Williams

:27:59.:28:03.

sisters. She's really got a job on here.

:28:04.:28:22.

Blue sky but the clouds today are fluffy and white.

:28:23.:28:46.

Barry, you talked about perhaps next year the seedings could swap or be

:28:47.:28:54.

different for Coco Vandeweghe. There is no question about that. She's had

:28:55.:28:57.

three top ten wins this year and things are on the move for this

:28:58.:28:59.

young lady. The confidence that she gets from

:29:00.:29:22.

playing on grass, cocoa, is just going to translate on the other

:29:23.:29:25.

services. She had two great wins on the hard court. That play will

:29:26.:29:33.

continue, I think. A couple of points that she might

:29:34.:29:50.

have made more of. She has to take what chances she is being offered.

:29:51.:30:12.

Again just shooting up, the spin for Vinci to slice under that and

:30:13.:30:21.

control the ball. Energy moving off the court.

:30:22.:30:53.

That was beautifully done. Yes. She is looking cool, calm and collected,

:30:54.:31:19.

Coco Vandeweghe. It is remarkable to watch the hole-mac unfold. She has

:31:20.:31:23.

really been outstanding. This does not put much pressure on

:31:24.:31:59.

Roberta Vinci. You have to come up with something like this over and

:32:00.:32:02.

over. Perfect placement, a little bit of luck.

:32:03.:32:11.

I love it. Fortune favours the brave, and she has to pull out

:32:12.:32:20.

everything here. It is a do or die game.

:32:21.:33:11.

Good play. If you can get Coco moving into the back-end, hope to

:33:12.:33:18.

get something shorter and then penetrate fast on the forehand.

:33:19.:34:14.

A little extra volume to that applause. They want to see some

:34:15.:34:21.

excitement here, and this is where Roberta Vinci has to bring every bit

:34:22.:34:27.

of her experience. 33 years on the tour. Has won some really big

:34:28.:34:32.

matches. And she wants to push Coco Vandeweghe to the edge here. She

:34:33.:34:37.

wants to see if she can tighten up the American on her serve, make

:34:38.:34:41.

every return. She has to bring what she can. And just hope that Coco

:34:42.:34:52.

will tense up a fraction. She has been broken once. Vinci has to do it

:34:53.:35:03.

again here. She has looked pretty smooth throughout this match, hasn't

:35:04.:35:08.

she? I do like her attitude, and I would like to see the variation with

:35:09.:35:14.

intensity and body language once in awhile when does something really

:35:15.:35:15.

positive. That is smart play from Vinci,

:35:16.:35:49.

coming back into that side with the errors have been coming from.

:35:50.:36:20.

The footwork, that ball had the pace taken off and Vandeweghe. Didn't

:36:21.:36:28.

recognise it. Vinci thought that was going to the

:36:29.:36:55.

forehand. Coco changed up. That is long. REFEREE: Game, set,

:36:56.:37:54.

match Vandeweghe. I don't know how many as crowd have

:37:55.:38:21.

here before. Tickets went so quickly. And they have been well and

:38:22.:38:34.

detained. They have seen a player with a little style of other days.

:38:35.:38:41.

And who might in the future have many more days. A good victory.

:38:42.:38:48.

Absolutely. I am very impressed with Coco Vandeweghe and the way she

:38:49.:38:52.

carried herself today. She knew what she needed to do and she executed

:38:53.:38:57.

extremely well. The server was on a high percentage of service. She

:38:58.:39:02.

looks so confident out there, unsurprisingly, so comfortable to be

:39:03.:39:05.

on Centre Court. She enjoyed every moment of that. And Roberta, she did

:39:06.:39:13.

whatever she could, but today she was the back-seat passenger. It was

:39:14.:39:27.

Coco certainly driving that match. Just an easy-going, lovely girl,

:39:28.:39:33.

Coco. So charming. She will be a real asset to the tour. She is

:39:34.:39:46.

really headed for the top ten. I think anybody watching would agree

:39:47.:39:53.

with you. Not really her surface, grass. Fine at the US Open. How far

:39:54.:40:07.

will this lady progress? A lovely smile. A lovely game. Serena

:40:08.:40:17.

Williams awaits her, perhaps in the quarterfinals. Settling down having

:40:18.:40:32.

enjoyed a fine taster before lunch. It took one hour and eight minutes.

:40:33.:40:45.

Many congratulations, that was a great win. It was. Roberta is a

:40:46.:40:52.

really tough opponent. She has a lot of craftiness to her game that you

:40:53.:40:55.

don't see too much. And she makes you eat her. That is what I tried to

:40:56.:41:01.

do to stay focused, and keep pressing. You stayed focused and

:41:02.:41:05.

completely controlled the match, didn't you? Sometimes it felt like

:41:06.:41:10.

that, and sometimes I felt like I was in the clouds a little bit. A

:41:11.:41:14.

couple of times where I had a lead in her service games and made a

:41:15.:41:18.

couple of loose errors, but overall I am happy with my match. Playing on

:41:19.:41:24.

Sunday in Centre Court, what was the atmosphere like? It was amazing. It

:41:25.:41:28.

was quite cool. It was similar to when I played on quarterfinal day. I

:41:29.:41:34.

think the crowd was really into it. And it is really special that I was

:41:35.:41:38.

able to play on the rest Sunday. Having played so well, you now have

:41:39.:41:43.

time for Sunday lunch will stop I have Mixed Doubles! Sorry. I will

:41:44.:41:49.

definitely have some lunch. But I have Mixed Doubles and I have to be

:41:50.:41:53.

ready for my partner. Well done. Thank you. SUE BARKER: anybody

:41:54.:42:01.

playing in the doubles is playing catch up here. What a win for a Coco

:42:02.:42:05.

Vandeweghe full stop she loves playing on grass and how game is

:42:06.:42:09.

suited for it. She is the root of the fourth round yet again. And we

:42:10.:42:12.

will enjoy her big hitting style in the last 16. She will be back on

:42:13.:42:17.

court tomorrow. Her coach absolutely delighted. He is very much aware of

:42:18.:42:24.

what this young lady can achieve and what you can achieve on this

:42:25.:42:27.

surface. Coco Vandeweghe is safely through. There is a real battle

:42:28.:42:33.

going on on Court Number One. Svetlana Kuznetsova has a break of

:42:34.:42:37.

serve in the second set but is facing two break points against

:42:38.:42:42.

Sloane Stephens. You can follow that match on the red button. It looks

:42:43.:42:46.

like it has some way to go. Coco Vandeweghe will be looking at this

:42:47.:42:52.

match, because she plays the winner. And it certainly looks like it will

:42:53.:42:54.

be Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, the number 21 seed. She is now serving

:42:55.:43:00.

for the match. That could be the fourth round match we will see on

:43:01.:43:08.

court tomorrow. We're here on this People's Sunday because we have 12

:43:09.:43:12.

matches to be completed. One has already been done in the main draw.

:43:13.:43:16.

Some players are fortunate to have come through the first week without

:43:17.:43:19.

interruptions, and Andy Murray is one of those. Roger Federer is

:43:20.:43:25.

another. Now we can hear from the seven time champion because I spoke

:43:26.:43:27.

to him after he finished his practice today. Done for the day,

:43:28.:43:33.

did my practice. Now it is all about relaxing again for the second day.

:43:34.:43:37.

One of those lucky guys that finished already on Friday where

:43:38.:43:41.

others have to battle it out today and yesterday. I have to make the

:43:42.:43:46.

most of it and come into the second week very refreshed. It is bring on

:43:47.:43:52.

the Brits. That is why you are scheduled on Centre Court. Yes, I

:43:53.:43:57.

got lucky with the draw, and getting scheduled on Centre Court on those

:43:58.:44:00.

rainy days, because I was scheduled on the third match. If I had played

:44:01.:44:04.

on Court One I would not have been able to finish. So I got lucky, but

:44:05.:44:09.

it was a good fun first week, the match especially against Dan

:44:10.:44:17.

Williams who I have never played. Nine sets, nine wins, that is great.

:44:18.:44:21.

I surprise myself a little bit because I did not quite know where I

:44:22.:44:27.

was coming into the two women. You'd quit Marcus Willis. We love that

:44:28.:44:33.

story. It was incredible, 772, coming through rounds of qualifying,

:44:34.:44:36.

beating the world number 54, and then Centre Court to play you. It

:44:37.:44:41.

was a fairy tale. It was very cool. I love the story, I loved his

:44:42.:44:44.

reactions, and how the match went. As he had a lot of pressure. I

:44:45.:44:50.

always knew he was going to win games, even asset, even more. I had

:44:51.:44:55.

to prepare myself in a way that he would be a top 50 player now because

:44:56.:44:59.

he has won seven matches straight here at Wimbledon. And here we are

:45:00.:45:05.

walking out. He couldn't stop laughing! What I love was he silted

:45:06.:45:10.

up and enjoyed it and played tennis. He toyed with me, he lobbed me. I

:45:11.:45:18.

dearly! This is the point of the match, and he got it. It was great

:45:19.:45:23.

fun, and a great atmosphere that he was able to bring to the Centre

:45:24.:45:28.

Court. And a big serve. A big serve that I could not read. He aced me

:45:29.:45:34.

about nine times. He has a good slice, and it is hard to attack him

:45:35.:45:38.

off that. The important thing for me was to stay aggressive. But credit

:45:39.:45:42.

to him for playing a good match. And as the match went on, you got

:45:43.:45:48.

better. And having are just over ?200 this year, he walks away with a

:45:49.:45:53.

cheque for over 50,000. He says it has reignited his passion for tennis

:45:54.:45:56.

because he had lost his way before. You would hope so. If this does not

:45:57.:46:01.

fire him up, what will? For any player just to see that this is

:46:02.:46:05.

possible, you can make it to Centre Court at Wimbledon, you can play

:46:06.:46:08.

against some of the best players in the world, and you can play with

:46:09.:46:12.

them, hang with them, beat them at times, games or sets or matches

:46:13.:46:15.

even, that will give you the motivation to push harder and

:46:16.:46:20.

practice, and in life just to keep working hard at it. His world has

:46:21.:46:25.

been turned upside down. One day he is playing you on Centre Court, do

:46:26.:46:28.

you know when he was the next day? I don't go where he was. He was

:46:29.:46:34.

playing a lead. This is in with his partner. Look getting, showboating.

:46:35.:46:43.

And the crowd goes wild. But he won in straight sets, so he is

:46:44.:46:47.

absolutely thrilled. But he feels this will move him up the rankings.

:46:48.:46:52.

He will move up to around 400, still a long way to go. It is a tough

:46:53.:46:58.

journey. It is tough, 400, 300, 200, they play about the same. It is a

:46:59.:47:02.

matter of passion and hope professional you are. How you are

:47:03.:47:08.

working physically, what is your approach day-to-day. All of these

:47:09.:47:11.

things make a difference when you want to jump from 400 to top 100.

:47:12.:47:17.

What did you make of Novak Djokovic yesterday? Did you see much of the

:47:18.:47:22.

match? With all the interruptions, I didn't. I went out for a walk with

:47:23.:47:26.

the boys. I saw some of it. Clearly a huge surprise. I played Sam here

:47:27.:47:31.

last year and I thought he was very dangerous, very good as well. You

:47:32.:47:35.

could always maybe think that Sam was going to have a chance, maybe a

:47:36.:47:40.

setter to, but I did not pick Sam to win. Especially with Novak's record.

:47:41.:47:50.

Time to dig step back and think was an unbelievable performance he has

:47:51.:47:53.

had this year. All his Grand Slam matches up to this point yesterday,

:47:54.:47:56.

and then of course you have to give Sam the credit for closing it out.

:47:57.:48:00.

Because Novak sometimes gives you chances to close him out, but not

:48:01.:48:04.

many guys can do it because he is still so good even when he is not so

:48:05.:48:10.

good. And Sam was able to do it. And you know more than anyone the

:48:11.:48:12.

pressure that is built on you when you're chasing records and remaining

:48:13.:48:16.

unbeaten. There is a lot that goes on offer court as well as on the

:48:17.:48:21.

court. It is good and bad. You're chasing something unbelievably cool,

:48:22.:48:25.

so you are clearly very motivated and very intrigued and interested in

:48:26.:48:30.

trying to achieve that. So it might take some energy out of you, but

:48:31.:48:34.

you're so confident when you walk into the match but he will win a lot

:48:35.:48:39.

of matches just by feeling great. So now he has to rebuild that to some

:48:40.:48:43.

extent. I'm sure that this is just a haircut. He will be fine again for

:48:44.:48:47.

the American summer and as long as he is healthy he will be super tough

:48:48.:48:52.

to beat. He is clearly an unbelievable player and will go down

:48:53.:48:55.

as one of the greatest players in history. It just shows he is human,

:48:56.:49:02.

finally. We notice your family is here, and your girls came to see

:49:03.:49:05.

your first match on Centre Court. We have some pictures of them. Where

:49:06.:49:15.

the behaving? Arm wrestling! They were having a good time. I like that

:49:16.:49:20.

they enjoy the travelling life that we have. And they like tennis to

:49:21.:49:26.

some extent or enough that they come to watch my matches from time to

:49:27.:49:31.

time. They always ask me if they can bring some books out in case they

:49:32.:49:38.

get bored. Surely not! This was the first time I didn't allow any books.

:49:39.:49:44.

So they did arm wrestling instead. And your boys ride with you on the

:49:45.:49:47.

practice court. And you are bidding tennis balls in their hands. Are you

:49:48.:49:50.

trying to get them interested in tennis, are just trying to get them

:49:51.:49:56.

busy? They are much more interested in tennis, which is great to see. I

:49:57.:50:00.

did not know they would come to practice today. My mum brought them

:50:01.:50:05.

out. I'm happy they can experience this with me. They won't remember

:50:06.:50:09.

this part because they are still too young, but the girls will remember.

:50:10.:50:14.

It is fun times right now, and they are so cute. I cannot cuddle them

:50:15.:50:20.

enough. It is good times. When the girls were born you said you wanted

:50:21.:50:23.

them to be old enough to see you play. For me it is very cool when I

:50:24.:50:29.

step onto court and look up to the players box in the first round match

:50:30.:50:33.

and I see the girls. It fills me with a lot of happiness, and I

:50:34.:50:37.

believe it makes you play better. I don't bring them out for me, but

:50:38.:50:40.

also for them and their pleasure because they are spending times

:50:41.:50:47.

their friends as well. Life is good. Looking back over your career is one

:50:48.:50:50.

person you would pick who has been the most influential in career? You

:50:51.:50:55.

would start always with my parents because they brought me to the game.

:50:56.:50:59.

Without them I would not have started playing tennis. They have

:51:00.:51:03.

been unbelievably supportive. And then I look back at Peter Carter,

:51:04.:51:12.

Tony Roach, and Severin has been with me for the last eight years. I

:51:13.:51:17.

have a lot of important people who have helped me. People like Stefan

:51:18.:51:23.

Edberg have given me a lot of great direction. I was very lucky to have

:51:24.:51:30.

the right coaches on the right people at the right times in my

:51:31.:51:33.

life. An understanding what they were tried to teach me at the time.

:51:34.:51:37.

Because you take things very differently when you are 14 or 18 or

:51:38.:51:44.

25 or 34. So I'm happy I had all these great people around me. A lot

:51:45.:51:49.

of great people inspired me. Your first Wimbledon, your first Grand

:51:50.:51:52.

Slam, is that still the one title your most proud of? Yes, probably.

:51:53.:51:59.

Because without that one, who knows where my career was going to go. I

:52:00.:52:02.

was under pressure because I had lost in the first round. A month

:52:03.:52:07.

earlier I had lost in the first round here. The year before I made a

:52:08.:52:12.

great run here in 2003. So if I don't win that Wimbledon I'm not

:52:13.:52:15.

sure I would have had the career because suddenly it all picked up,

:52:16.:52:18.

it all made sense to me, but I was trying to achieve. And the moment

:52:19.:52:25.

when I won that match, that final point, it was the most readable

:52:26.:52:28.

moment in my life as a tennis player. All my dreams came true.

:52:29.:52:36.

Yesterday, I think 15 years ago was my win over Pete Sampras, which to

:52:37.:52:39.

me is still the most important and most beautiful match that I ever

:52:40.:52:43.

played. But it did not have a golden trophy at the end. And then

:52:44.:52:49.

abilities version three final here. I won't ask you whether you think

:52:50.:52:53.

you will win it because I know you won't answer it, but how do you feel

:52:54.:52:57.

you are physically and mentally prepared for this? Mentally I'm much

:52:58.:53:03.

better. I am more confident with where my game is at, coming in one

:53:04.:53:08.

week ago when I was doing the press, I thought, I just know, I wish I

:53:09.:53:14.

could tell you. But now, three matches in, you know where you are,

:53:15.:53:17.

you know where your body and your mind is and where your game is. So

:53:18.:53:25.

now I fancy my chances more. Yes, it has an impact on every player right

:53:26.:53:28.

now moving forward that Novak is out, because he was the double

:53:29.:53:33.

defending champion here at Wimbledon, he won the last four

:53:34.:53:39.

slams. And now all that pressure shifts to a lot of other guys,

:53:40.:53:41.

particularly Murray, maybe myself and others. But it is an

:53:42.:53:47.

opportunity, and I can also play tricks on players' minds. So you

:53:48.:53:52.

just need to focus on UNIX match which is Steve Johnson on Monday.

:53:53.:53:58.

That is my next focus. We wish you well, great to see you again.

:53:59.:54:05.

Appreciated. It is always a delight to hear from Roger Federer and he

:54:06.:54:09.

will be up against the big serving American, Steve Johnson, who has

:54:10.:54:12.

been on form on the grass courts. Roger could have an afternoon off

:54:13.:54:16.

and head back to his home. Still have plenty of tennis to come. We

:54:17.:54:20.

will head back to Centre Court in a moment. But first we have a results

:54:21.:54:27.

to bring you. And indeed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova did serve out how

:54:28.:54:32.

match, she is through 6-3, 6-2. Delighted with her when, and a very

:54:33.:54:35.

special birthday present. She is 25 today. What a way to celebrate your

:54:36.:54:41.

birthday. She is pretty face Coco Vandeweghe who we saw on Centre

to Centre Court on this People's Sunday, a packed Centre Court

awaiting one of the game's all-time greats, Serena Williams today con

Annika Beck. Annika Beck was the player who put

:55:01.:55:18.

out Heather Watson 12-10 in the third, Martina Navratilova a special

guests in the Royal box. And she will certainly appreciate this match

:55:25.:55:29.

will stop a real battle, Annika Beck has on our hands up against Serena

:55:30.:55:33.

Williams, who has been the champion here summary times, making her 17th

:55:34.:55:38.

appearance at the championship. She knows what it is all about. Serena

:55:39.:55:43.

will be hoping for an easier ride than she had in the last round, a

:55:44.:55:46.

3-set thriller against Christina McHale. A big moment here for

:55:47.:55:59.

Christina McHale on Centre Court. Nicely played. That is brilliant.

:56:00.:56:07.

That is a shaky game from Serena. She has made it, incredible! Talking

:56:08.:56:13.

to herself, Serena. McHale has the opening set! Serena looking much

:56:14.:56:27.

sharper second time around. Second set to the champion. What a way to

:56:28.:56:38.

finish! The champion has been tested to the limit. I'm proud of how I

:56:39.:56:45.

closed it out, the last game, I thought that was a very strong game.

:56:46.:56:50.

Being able to get through that match, it wasn't easy, but I was

:56:51.:56:57.

able to get through it. Where do you think your form is at the moment,

:56:58.:57:00.

and where do you think it needs to be? I think my form... Obviously it

:57:01.:57:06.

has to be somewhere to be competing at Wimbledon. I do believe that

:57:07.:57:12.

every match I hope to get better and I plan to get better. I am ready for

:57:13.:57:19.

it. I have been through a lot in my career on the court and off the

:57:20.:57:22.

court, and I have been in every position you can be in. It is very

:57:23.:57:36.

difficult. She came here last year so dominant and took the title. It

:57:37.:57:42.

has been a mixed year for since then, by years come through that

:57:43.:57:48.

battle and will be eager to get this one either way quite quickly. We are

:57:49.:57:52.

ready for this one, we can join our commentators

:57:53.:58:03.

will stop COMMENTATOR: A wonderful athlete. A sporting phenomenon with

:58:04.:58:17.

an amazing story. The first meeting for these players, this is Annika

:58:18.:58:21.

Beck of Germany. It is a strong time for German tennis. Annika Beck in

:58:22.:58:30.

the third round for the first time at Wimbledon. And what a moment this

:58:31.:58:31.

is for her to face Serena Williams. Possessor of the most fabulous

:58:32.:58:45.

serve. First time on Centre Court for

:58:46.:59:22.

Annika Beck. It was a great thrill on court 18

:59:23.:59:49.

yesterday, people were thronging the walkways to see Serena Williams play

:59:50.:59:53.

with her sister in doubles. It was one of the highlights of the day.

:59:54.:59:58.

The tennis was hot and it was quite an occasion.

:59:59.:00:06.

Serena has not been playing doubles the last few years. They played

:00:07.:00:16.

doubles in Rome and the French, losing early in but those Germans.

:00:17.:00:20.

-- in both those tournaments. And the talking about the doubles

:00:21.:00:45.

pairing, Venus and Serena won three Olympic golds together. 13 grand

:00:46.:00:53.

slam titles as well. Clearly just the most amazing play.

:00:54.:01:26.

Annika Beck has ended the last three years in the 50s in the rankings, 22

:01:27.:01:35.

years of age now. Beginning to really push up into the higher

:01:36.:01:39.

Essonne is of the women's game. A former French Open junior champion.

:01:40.:01:47.

-- higher echelons. Will she have enough power to bother Serena today?

:01:48.:02:11.

Serena not bothering to go to the chair this time. She kept Annika

:02:12.:02:17.

Beck waiting in the middle of the court for the coin toss, the court,

:02:18.:02:23.

the arena, the whole thing is about Serena. Once she's playing, it's all

:02:24.:02:33.

about her presence on court. A bit of superstition for Serena, after

:02:34.:02:37.

the first game of the set she always passes around the opposite side of

:02:38.:02:39.

the chair umpire. Looking very sharp early on. The

:02:40.:02:57.

Annika Beck serve is consistent and well-placed but not powerful. Serena

:02:58.:03:00.

will tactic -- will attack. You've just got to wonder about

:03:01.:03:26.

Beck's knows at this moment, having never played on this court, up

:03:27.:03:31.

against a six time champion who is so comfortable in this arena.

:03:32.:03:39.

UMPIRE: Let, first service. Has a very consistent demeanour, very even

:03:40.:03:49.

keeled, so she won't let us see any nerves that she might have.

:03:50.:04:06.

Terrific accuracy on the serve and quick with the first step. Mobility

:04:07.:04:11.

will not be an issue for Beck. It's going to be tougher for Beck to

:04:12.:04:38.

whether those first couple of powerful shots.

:04:39.:05:00.

That's an overrule. Serena Williams just getting their feet a bit

:05:01.:05:08.

tangled up. She was looking right down the ball. She will know whether

:05:09.:05:15.

it was in or out. A very fine overrule from the umpire. Has the

:05:16.:05:24.

deepest voice of any of the umpires. The best voice in tennis.

:05:25.:06:34.

Must be quite something to look down and see your tennis people, or your

:06:35.:06:41.

son or your daughter, playing on Centre Court. Serena Williams's

:06:42.:06:44.

parents hugging the other day. Of course, because it's such a long

:06:45.:06:58.

journey, all through the juniors. I have a son who plays in the ITF to

:06:59.:07:03.

and he is supposed to be here at junior Wimbledon but had a bad back

:07:04.:07:05.

and had to pull out. Of course, that's the ultimate

:07:06.:07:17.

dream, like Stevie Johnson. Stevie Johnson will be playing Roger

:07:18.:07:26.

Federer. His father is he and his dad said, "It doesn't get better

:07:27.:07:27.

than that". My mother once saw me against

:07:28.:07:56.

Ivanisevic on Court One and she tutted and you can hear your

:07:57.:08:01.

mother's tutting wherever you are. I don't even twitch.

:08:02.:08:19.

Serena already with a boatload of unforced errors. Just a little

:08:20.:08:23.

ragged to start this match. Annika Beck is not doing anything

:08:24.:08:54.

special so far. She's got to find her range and her

:08:55.:09:03.

rhythm. Not only did she get another second

:09:04.:09:46.

serve but she's got another shot at this wonderful service motion.

:09:47.:10:06.

That's good length from Beck and Serena Williams couldn't handle it

:10:07.:10:11.

that time at break of serve. SUE BARKER: Well, here we go again.

:10:12.:10:30.

Serena has lost her serve in the opening set. We'll be right back

:10:31.:10:34.

with this one. Over on Court One, Svetlana Kuznetsova has taken the

:10:35.:10:38.

second set to level the match against Sloane Stephens and Sloane

:10:39.:10:41.

Stephens is to live in one up but she's not happy, still talking to

:10:42.:10:45.

the umpire. She was given a warning for coaching, which see said wasn't

:10:46.:10:50.

happening. That happened about two micrograms ago and she's still

:10:51.:10:52.

talking to the umpire about it. If you want to watch that match it is

:10:53.:10:58.

live on the red button. Over on court to, to resume from yesterday,

:10:59.:11:06.

John Isner, to live in one up against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. Out here

:11:07.:11:10.

today, he's broken in the opening game of the fourth set, so the

:11:11.:11:15.

two-time semifinalist going well in the early stages of today's match,

:11:16.:11:20.

so that is live online, an connected TV or live on the up. We'll keep you

:11:21.:11:24.

updated on that but let's go back to Centre Court.

:11:25.:11:29.

ANDREW CASTLE: And here on centre, Annika Beck with a break of serve.

:11:30.:11:34.

This is the woman who beat Heather Watson in an impressive first-round

:11:35.:11:41.

match, three match points against the British player in the first

:11:42.:11:42.

round. Starting to have better results in

:11:43.:12:07.

the majors this year. In the third round at Roland Garros as well.

:12:08.:12:13.

Before this year had only ever won one match here at Wimbledon.

:12:14.:12:42.

Much better constructive point from Serena. There is her mum and her

:12:43.:12:52.

sister. Her hitting partner in the white hat. The coach just to his

:12:53.:12:55.

right. ANDREW CASTLE: She'll have to put

:12:56.:13:37.

that behind straightaway. Serena didn't find her rhythm for

:13:38.:14:19.

the first three games. I think she could just pull back a little, and

:14:20.:14:23.

some shape to her shots over the net, a bit more height, give herself

:14:24.:14:24.

more margin. Longer rallies, five, six, seven

:14:25.:14:42.

shots, Serena is fine. Might now her shock tolerance is too low. Pulling

:14:43.:14:46.

the trigger to fast. Talked about the serve. That's just

:14:47.:15:16.

a magical motion. It's so fluid, perfect technique.

:15:17.:15:23.

ANDREW CASTLE: When we talk about that sense of invisibility, Annika

:15:24.:15:45.

Beck coming from three match points down against Heather Watson. Sam

:15:46.:15:51.

Querrey was two points down, the man who pulled off the biggest upset of

:15:52.:15:55.

the Championships yesterday, he was two sets down to Lukas Rosol in

:15:56.:15:59.

round top when you have looked at defeat, it does give you a

:16:00.:16:05.

strengthening thieving of how is she, Annika Beck, going to threaten

:16:06.:16:08.

Serena Williams when the going gets tough? She has to rely, I think, in

:16:09.:16:16.

a match like today on Serena playing less than her best tennis. She

:16:17.:16:22.

relies a lot on her speed, a lot on her accuracy, her constituency --

:16:23.:16:29.

can stay -- consistency. You just feel that Serena has way too much

:16:30.:16:32.

power and can hit through the defences of Annika Beck.

:16:33.:16:38.

Radwanska talked about that after one of her earlier round matches

:16:39.:16:50.

where she was through with too much point against an opponent. She said

:16:51.:16:54.

she feels like it is a second life, it frees you up.

:16:55.:17:23.

A second-round match for Serena was a lot to handle. Christina McHale

:17:24.:17:31.

played the round of her life. There are times when it looked like it

:17:32.:17:33.

might be a major upset. After that match, Serena said, "I

:17:34.:18:27.

plan on getting better in every match," and she usually does.

:18:28.:18:42.

The serve speeds are going to have to get a bullet of it. She's going

:18:43.:18:47.

to have to be very accurate if she serving at 75 or 79 mph. It's not

:18:48.:18:51.

going to be enough. On the defensive right from the word

:18:52.:19:12.

go. I know she's got more in there. A little bit more. A bit nervous,

:19:13.:19:19.

takes five miles an hour off it. Going a break down, Serena, and

:19:20.:19:59.

coming back winning three straight games and in control after 20

:20:00.:20:03.

minutes. Much better patients from Serena. She's willing to recognise

:20:04.:20:10.

you doesn't need to go as big. Beck doesn't have the weapons to trouble

:20:11.:20:11.

Serena. Will Williams one of 18 Americans in

:20:12.:20:27.

the draw of the most populous nation in the women's draw, Germany second

:20:28.:20:28.

with ten. Didn't take long to find a rhythm.

:20:29.:21:44.

40 mph, that is not coming back many times. She conflict that switch so

:21:45.:21:45.

easily. -- can flick that switch. Two women's matches on Centre Court

:21:46.:22:07.

today and one men's match after this.

:22:08.:22:27.

UMPIRE: New balls, please. Miss Williams leads 5-2, first set.

:22:28.:22:40.

ANDREW CASTLE: In control, in the sunshine. Serena Williams the six

:22:41.:22:43.

time champion here and top seed once again. This service motion and the

:22:44.:22:48.

comparison between the two players in terms of the fight to get through

:22:49.:22:51.

the court, it's very, very marked today. The average mph from Annika

:22:52.:22:58.

Beck in that last game, mid-70s, average first serve speed 84 but

:22:59.:23:03.

Serena 103 but she could opt that average in a couple of service games

:23:04.:23:08.

considerably. Always something in reserve. That is the first serve,

:23:09.:23:15.

this is the second. Serena can increase that any time. And the

:23:16.:23:21.

service not just about the power, the power is the first key that you

:23:22.:23:25.

look at, but it is also about placement and Serena can hit it to

:23:26.:23:28.

the four corners very easily and is so unpredictable with that. Then I

:23:29.:23:33.

think also a couple of other elements is, able to hit big serves

:23:34.:23:37.

an crucial points, big points. Serena has that ability. A lot of

:23:38.:23:42.

kick for safety. A 69 mph serve, begging to be hit.

:23:43.:25:06.

It's not just physical strength. That timing technique.

:25:07.:25:20.

The serve was better at 91 mph but into the rally, and this... Serena

:25:21.:25:37.

looking quickly, closing in on this first set.

:25:38.:25:51.

Beck must be wondering, "How can I make inroads on the Serena Williams

:25:52.:26:03.

game?" The grounds don't have enough heft on them. Serena has cut down

:26:04.:26:05.

the unforced errors. Annika Beck just one winner today,

:26:06.:27:13.

14 unforced errors from Serena. That's where she is getting most of

:27:14.:27:15.

the points. The work from Serena could be a

:27:16.:27:25.

little more precise. The crowd would like to see a little

:27:26.:28:36.

more of this. Closer contest. She might have to go red line a bit.

:28:37.:28:48.

She was completely out of shot to adopt that was hilarious.

:28:49.:28:59.

Unbelievable court coverage. Speedy. A little personality as well after

:29:00.:29:05.

winning that point and the crowd start clapping and Annika Beck

:29:06.:29:08.

throws her hands up, trying to get this crowd involved.

:29:09.:29:25.

One of the features of Amico Beck's first round match against Heather

:29:26.:29:31.

Watson was the court coverage of two of the finest athletes out there.

:29:32.:29:35.

This easily could have been Heather Watson playing Serena for a second

:29:36.:29:40.

Wimbledon in a row. Heather pushed her to the wrinkles last year.

:29:41.:29:45.

Heather Watson was two points away from winning a match.

:29:46.:30:10.

Not going to get too many opportunities with high forehands

:30:11.:30:16.

like that against Serena. You have to take that opportunity because

:30:17.:30:23.

that's coming next. 123. That is very quick. Fastest of the day.

:30:24.:30:34.

Could be the fastest of the tournament for Serena. 23rd for the

:30:35.:30:49.

tournament and it is six out of three to Serena Williams after just

:30:50.:30:53.

over half an hour. The two oldest players in the women's draw this

:30:54.:30:56.

year are Venus and Serena Williams. It is so wonderful to see Venus back

:30:57.:31:02.

of her game. The story of the Williams sisters is just amazing.

:31:03.:31:06.

Trailblazers, role models, champions. Inspiring others in the

:31:07.:31:11.

sport, they've done that right from the word go to talk with that in

:31:12.:31:15.

mind, I must suggest that people watch out for the film about another

:31:16.:31:20.

trailblazer, Althea Gibson. It is going to be at the British Urban

:31:21.:31:25.

Film Festival. It is wonderful. Twice a Wimbledon champion and she

:31:26.:31:31.

would go on to become the first black player to complete the women's

:31:32.:31:34.

golf tour as well. Amazing character. I just saw a picture of

:31:35.:31:41.

her receiving a trophy in 1957 when she beat an opponent in the final at

:31:42.:31:45.

Queen Elizabeth is, which is here in the media centre. Lookout for that

:31:46.:31:47.

film. You met her, didn't you? And 12 years old she came to speak

:31:48.:32:00.

to a group of young juniors in the state. Why don't spy ring speech,

:32:01.:32:05.

talking about her tennis career, being a chess champion, switched to

:32:06.:32:10.

golf to become a golf champion, and then she said, I also enjoy singing!

:32:11.:32:14.

She started singing, and she had a beautiful voice. She was good at

:32:15.:32:20.

everything she did. The history of this place makes it so special. She

:32:21.:32:29.

went on to meet Angela Mortimer in 1958. Serena Williams always happy

:32:30.:32:35.

to be tribute to her influence. UMPIRE: Annika Beck challenges the

:32:36.:34:16.

call. The ball was called out. First service.

:34:17.:34:39.

Trying to accelerate through the ball, trying to get a foundation

:34:40.:34:44.

from which to attack in this set. She had a break in the first. Trying

:34:45.:34:50.

to stay close early. Against the big players, the big presences, that is

:34:51.:34:51.

what you have to do, keep it close. Too many errors. Not having a good

:34:52.:35:15.

time and are the moment. Not really expressing herself. Too many

:35:16.:35:21.

mistakes will stop Serena looks like she is still in second gear.

:35:22.:35:41.

That game has gone by fairly quickly. It is a set and a break.

:35:42.:36:38.

UMPIRE: Annika Beck challenges the call. The ball was called in.

:36:39.:37:10.

What has characterised this match so far is a sense of nerves. First time

:37:11.:37:17.

on Centre Court and playing a six time champion. Cannot be easy.

:37:18.:37:31.

You just feel like this is too much of a task today for Annika Beck. She

:37:32.:37:36.

does not have enough firepower to bother Serena. Serena does not look

:37:37.:37:39.

as if she has been pushed. In the early stages of the first set

:37:40.:37:52.

Serena had a bunch of mistakes which helped Annika get on board.

:37:53.:38:16.

STUDIO: If you want to continue watching you can, it is now one BBC

:38:17.:38:25.

One. Just before we head out to Court Number Two. We discredit show

:38:26.:38:33.

you what on Court Number One. Sloane Stephens, she was 5-3 and 74, Budgie

:38:34.:38:40.

was broken, and are experienced opponent, Svetlana Kuznetsova is

:38:41.:38:47.

serving to stay in the match. You can watch that on the red button.

:38:48.:38:53.

Another match getting underway. This one held over because of bad light.

:38:54.:39:00.

Juan Martin del Potro up against Lucas Pouille, and you can follow

:39:01.:39:06.

that on the website. But we are heading over to Court Number Two to

:39:07.:39:10.

see John is now against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. Tsonga came back and took

:39:11.:39:16.

the third set. They resume play at the start of the fourth set, and

:39:17.:39:19.

John is now has had trouble with a leg injury. Tsonga has taken

:39:20.:39:23.

advantage, levelling the match at two sets all. Let's join our

:39:24.:39:26.

commentators. COMMENTATOR: Tsonga has got off to a

:39:27.:39:39.

blistering start on People's Sunday. Haddin created a break point

:39:40.:39:43.

opportunity yesterday, and suddenly broke is an twice. Went on to

:39:44.:39:49.

complete the job comfortable with. We are on serve here in the fifth.

:39:50.:39:58.

Isner came on to court with some strapping on his knee. Has taken

:39:59.:40:06.

strapping off. A bizarre moment at the start of the match at 40-15 up,

:40:07.:40:10.

the American got called for a foot fault. Have not ever seen that

:40:11.:40:16.

before for Isner, it put him off his stride and contributed to the break.

:40:17.:40:27.

This is all set up for a cracking final set.

:40:28.:40:32.

Isner has been struggling to find any rhythm whatsoever. Tsonga is on

:40:33.:40:39.

the wrong side of the court. Historically, both these players

:40:40.:41:02.

quite far down in terms of the return games won. It will not be a

:41:03.:41:08.

match filled with too many breaks of serve. The fact that Tsonga did not

:41:09.:41:18.

lose a point on serve in the fourth set suggests he is serving pretty

:41:19.:41:20.

well so far today. Just a couple of points on serve

:41:21.:41:33.

that Jo has lost on serve in total. So hard to control the ball, even if

:41:34.:43:00.

you get your strings on it, off that kind of speed and accuracy.

:43:01.:43:14.

The Isner serve is not just about the fact it is coming from such a

:43:15.:43:22.

great height and the pace, it is the accuracy as well. Another one tight

:43:23.:43:34.

to the lines. As quick as you like. 3-2, Isner. The nominal serving for

:43:35.:43:46.

Isner in this set stop he has made 12 first serves, and he has all 12

:43:47.:43:54.

point. It is an amazing turnaround. More importantly, he has found a

:43:55.:44:04.

greater level of calm. He was not a happy man during the fourth set. The

:44:05.:44:14.

umpire gets on the blower again. I don't think that was a request from

:44:15.:44:21.

either player that time. Something he needed to get from the referee's

:44:22.:44:28.

office, I'm not entirely sure. There could be a delivery service coming

:44:29.:44:31.

out to Court Number Two, that is the bottom right of your picture. Court

:44:32.:44:36.

12 right next to that. A lovely little section of the ground. And

:44:37.:44:41.

most importantly, the roof open and a fair bit of blue sky hovering

:44:42.:44:51.

above FW 19. Some wonderful matches for the fans lucky enough to get

:44:52.:44:59.

their tickets online yesterday. I'm sure there is more youngsters around

:45:00.:45:05.

the ground today. What a lovely thing for them to experience.

:45:06.:45:33.

Just checking whether the ball is on the line, it was deep on the

:45:34.:45:40.

baseline. Tsonga did a great job after that particular shot of

:45:41.:45:43.

keeping the ball wide and low down to that Isner backhand.

:45:44.:45:56.

So important for him to get that ball on the backhand of Tsonga if he

:45:57.:46:03.

can. He can make a few things happen if he does. Tsonga almost got the

:46:04.:46:08.

backhand to give himself enough room. Not quite, though. A bit up.

:46:09.:46:39.

Just wide. That second serve. 80 mph from Tsonga. Every kick, very safe,

:46:40.:46:55.

but... A little surprised that it is that low in speed. Isner, when he

:46:56.:47:01.

sees the ball, can hit a massive return.

:47:02.:47:15.

Such a big weapon, this Tsonga forehand. When he has time.

:47:16.:47:52.

The crowd in the warm sunshine are warming up to the battle. What a

:47:53.:47:56.

shocker from Tsonga. The majority of the crowd want the

:47:57.:48:06.

Frenchman to win. The touch was absent at the start of

:48:07.:48:38.

the fourth set, but the big fellow has some soft hands when he is in

:48:39.:48:40.

the groove. Smoothly dumped by the ball girl at

:48:41.:48:59.

the other end. Normally the line umpires, especially covering the

:49:00.:49:01.

ones straight down the middle that are in the firing line.

:49:02.:49:10.

When Isner is on court, look out, wherever you are.

:49:11.:49:24.

Nobody can believe it. This was straightforward, maybe a little

:49:25.:49:30.

complacent. You see the step back that John makes after his serve.

:49:31.:49:38.

It is a slow start that made it difficult when he got there.

:49:39.:50:06.

It is quite possible that is simply a hangover from that simple missed

:50:07.:50:16.

forehand the point before. Tsonga has a firm foothold all of a sudden.

:50:17.:50:35.

That is such a brave serve from the American. Yes, he has one of the

:50:36.:50:43.

best serves in the world, but you need courage with a server like

:50:44.:50:52.

that. 122 mph. Very small margin for error on such a big point.

:50:53.:51:15.

Pace on the previous placement and bounce on the second taking it out

:51:16.:51:18.

of reach of Tsonga. A little bit of pressure at 30-30.

:51:19.:51:40.

At 30-0, it looked pretty easy. So important to practice the third

:51:41.:51:42.

shot. You could see how he took a step

:51:43.:51:54.

back and had to get the big body moving. By the time he got there and

:51:55.:51:58.

tried to get out of the way of the ball, it proved to be harder than it

:51:59.:52:05.

first looked at the beginning. Movement around the court is of

:52:06.:52:09.

paramount importance for any top-level player. For these guys,

:52:10.:52:19.

like Isner, who are six foot ten... It is even more important. They have

:52:20.:52:26.

to get to the ball and balance in order to play the shots that they

:52:27.:52:29.

are able to hit as winners. Isner out of his chair, serving

:52:30.:52:38.

second. -- Jo out of his chair. First of its tennis academy I went

:52:39.:52:57.

to in the states, in Florida. It seems inevitable that people will

:52:58.:53:39.

attack the Isner double hander. You have to keep them honest and go into

:53:40.:53:42.

the forehand side with the attack. You cannot get predictable Tsonga.

:53:43.:54:01.

Fantastic reach and well played from Isner.

:54:02.:54:12.

Great control to get it back down the line and controlling every inch

:54:13.:54:15.

of the net. A little predictable into the

:54:16.:55:08.

forehand side of Isner. Winning grant the backhand side to great

:55:09.:55:09.

effect. The ball wasn't that high, just a

:55:10.:55:28.

slight misjudgement. Isner doing a much better job in

:55:29.:56:11.

getting the ball back into play in this fifth set. So far, hasn't been

:56:12.:56:18.

able to carve out any break point opportunities.

:56:19.:56:34.

Some small incremental improvements on his return, but he needs to be

:56:35.:56:37.

wary. The first couple of points could

:56:38.:56:44.

make all the difference. You can see the frustration from

:56:45.:57:22.

Tsonga there. He knows if he can get his racket on the ball, he has to

:57:23.:57:26.

make the ball over the net. Another unforced error of the

:57:27.:58:28.

forehand side for Isner. Just six for the Frenchman. He has played the

:58:29.:58:31.

tidier tennis. I'm not sure how good the footwork

:58:32.:59:15.

was from Isner, but stretches his long arm out and flicks it with his

:59:16.:59:17.

wrist. Takes great skill. Fantastic shot there from Isner.

:59:18.:59:30.

We'll focus on the serve, but you don't get inside the top ten in the

:59:31.:59:34.

world without having more to your game than that, and we got a great

:59:35.:59:36.

glimpse of it. He is a tough competitor, as well.

:59:37.:59:45.

He credits a lot of that toughness he has developed over the years to

:59:46.:59:52.

being the youngest brother of three. Tells a funny story of when he was

:59:53.:59:57.

eight or nine. He says how his eldest brother knocked his head

:59:58.:00:02.

through one of those metal you lock bike locks to a bedpost and left him

:00:03.:00:08.

there for a couple of hours. He described it as tough love. I don't

:00:09.:00:16.

know if his brother messes with him now. Maybe things have changed

:00:17.:00:24.

around a bit, I would imagine so. However humorous it was for him at

:00:25.:00:29.

the time, I think... But he's a fighter. He has been inside the top

:00:30.:00:36.

20 for six plus years. Been as high as number nine in the world. Can you

:00:37.:00:43.

get past Tsonga to make it through to the last 16?

:00:44.:01:28.

You can see Jo, when you can rush him on that side, that right hand is

:01:29.:01:34.

too dominant on that shot, it should really be the left. He squeezes the

:01:35.:01:38.

face of the racket across the ball rather than getting round the

:01:39.:01:39.

outside of it. So keen to protect the backhand side

:01:40.:01:58.

that he got himself moving to swiftly to that side and couldn't

:01:59.:02:05.

get back. It is an indication of how important the first serve is for

:02:06.:02:07.

Tsonga. The sun is a bit of an issue for

:02:08.:02:14.

Tsonga. He is having to vary his toss to

:02:15.:02:32.

make sure the contact point isn't directly in line with the sun.

:02:33.:02:33.

Dealing with it well. The Frenchman knows a thing or two

:02:34.:03:28.

about 24 hour sporting occasions. This may get delayed by the darkness

:03:29.:03:49.

and the piece of wood that needs to be chiselled for these courts when

:03:50.:03:53.

something special happens is maybe just starting to get car now.

:03:54.:04:09.

If he hits serves like that, he will be unbroken for the rest of the

:04:10.:04:13.

year. Unbelievable placement. You could have a row of players out

:04:14.:04:19.

there that still wouldn't return it. That is a serve that gets everyone

:04:20.:04:35.

involved. The crowd, blinds people. -- linespeople. He makes such good

:04:36.:04:56.

use of the height of that contact point. The angles.

:04:57.:05:02.

The angles he creates greater than anybody else. You can see where he

:05:03.:05:09.

gets caught because of the speed of the serve. You can't get tighter

:05:10.:05:14.

into the net. It is not always a great idea for him to throw in that

:05:15.:05:16.

serve and volley. It was a terrific shot. Isner

:05:17.:05:54.

seemingly winded. He didn't bother to run for this one.

:05:55.:06:01.

He's taking the full 25 seconds, by the looks of things.

:06:02.:06:30.

The fatigue from the end of the point going over to the next one.

:06:31.:06:39.

So often we see players like Isner who rely on their big serves snuff

:06:40.:06:46.

out any opportunities that they offer up.

:06:47.:06:56.

I wouldn't have been surprised to see a big ace or an unreturnable

:06:57.:06:58.

here. Or a double fault, perhaps. Feeling

:06:59.:07:10.

the pressure. First chance in this final set for

:07:11.:07:29.

either man. It falls to Tsonga C of a couple of double faults from the

:07:30.:07:31.

American. It was in width ways. Was it in on

:07:32.:07:48.

the service line lengthways? If it was, it was the most perfect of

:07:49.:07:49.

service. That is the serve I thought he would

:07:50.:08:18.

hit a couple of points ago. That serve has got him out of a spot of

:08:19.:08:19.

bother. Playing these points can be so much

:08:20.:08:37.

more simple with a shot like that. UMPIRE: New balls, please.

:08:38.:08:47.

Tsonga had his head on that he has had at times today.

:08:48.:08:58.

He has to tip his hat because that was good in terms of getting himself

:08:59.:09:05.

out of trouble, the American. He gifted the opportunity with a couple

:09:06.:09:09.

of double faults and the opportunity was taken away from him. That is

:09:10.:09:17.

what Isner can do, dents your dreams with just a couple of shots. It is

:09:18.:09:23.

not just the sheer number of aces that a player has the ability to hit

:09:24.:09:29.

or does hit, but also the ratio between aces and double faults that

:09:30.:09:35.

matters. Isner's ratio is exceptional. He serves far fewer

:09:36.:09:46.

double faults and Isner leads the career best ratio. 7.3.

:09:47.:10:04.

Dominated by current players. The accuracy of service is improving

:10:05.:10:11.

through the years. It is bad news for those having to face John Isner

:10:12.:10:14.

and Coke. -- co. A fairly unorthodox serve at times,

:10:15.:11:03.

in terms of his preparation, Tsonga. So strong he is not able to get that

:11:04.:11:07.

much rotation with the upper body, but able to find all four corners.

:11:08.:11:43.

It's a great reaction to not being able to break through in the first

:11:44.:11:51.

game. He will think he did nothing wrong, which he didn't, but

:11:52.:11:54.

sometimes the disappointment can linger a bit.

:11:55.:12:02.

No tie-break in this fifth set, but an extra challenge, was that?

:12:03.:12:30.

Again, sometimes just finding anyway possible to get the ball back in

:12:31.:12:37.

court can be enough. No pace on that return from Tsonga. Isner going for

:12:38.:12:44.

too much too soon, perhaps. A little bit impatient.

:12:45.:13:12.

It's exceptionally well there, Jo. Maybe a little impetuous with this

:13:13.:13:19.

shot. Did he needed to go for it where he was in the court against

:13:20.:13:21.

Isner? That is good from Isner. That serve

:13:22.:13:41.

firm enough, wide enough, to ensure that the Tsonga shot wouldn't be at

:13:42.:13:45.

feet. It cut the angle off, take the backhand volley as high as possible

:13:46.:13:47.

and firm as you like through it. It is also fine if the ball just

:13:48.:14:06.

drops gently in front of him like this one.

:14:07.:14:11.

Still takes a lot of touch to be able to hit a winner like that.

:14:12.:15:14.

13 games gone, just the one opportunity for Tsonga. There is no

:15:15.:15:23.

question about these two, they are so dominant with their serves, it

:15:24.:15:26.

will be interesting to see whether it is a moment of inspiration or an

:15:27.:15:31.

error that separates these two today. I say today, but obviously,

:15:32.:15:36.

there is a chance that it won't end today. The final set in that match

:15:37.:15:44.

in 2010, that's lasted eight hours. The match lasted 11 hours and five

:15:45.:15:51.

minutes. This is newborn as a match in terms of that one. Neither man is

:15:52.:15:59.

thinking about that. Isner coming out to serve to level things out. He

:16:00.:16:04.

has an unusual serve if you look at it. He is so strong, so powerful. In

:16:05.:16:09.

many ways, if you think of federal's serve, the dedication with the top

:16:10.:16:17.

part of the torso. Isner Ali Jo is straight up and, boy, is he strong.

:16:18.:16:22.

If you can picture a John McEnroe serve, that body rotation almost

:16:23.:16:29.

means that, at some point, the back is virtually facing the other end of

:16:30.:16:33.

the court. No such thing there with Jo, he has an awful lot of speed

:16:34.:16:35.

generated through the shoulder. His coach is trying to keep up and

:16:36.:17:00.

encouraged. He is puffing again a little, isn't

:17:01.:18:00.

he? If he is feeling the effects

:18:01.:18:30.

physically, you will want to finish these points as quickly as possible.

:18:31.:18:35.

So when he gets the chance, expect him to step in and have a good swing

:18:36.:18:36.

at it. It was too little, too late, the

:18:37.:19:00.

previous forehand. Another one misses its intended target. There is

:19:01.:19:15.

no doubt that Isner's final set is a topic of discussion here. That

:19:16.:19:24.

gentleman is probably going back to refer to it. What was it again? It

:19:25.:19:30.

can't have been 70-68, there is no way! It was.

:19:31.:19:44.

Jo has been struggling to beat players of Isner's calibre.

:19:45.:20:03.

The American has only ever had one top ten win in a major in the course

:20:04.:20:10.

of his career. That was against Andy Roddick in 2009. I am surprised at

:20:11.:20:14.

that. Such a dangerous player. Oh, what an angle from Isner. He has

:20:15.:20:51.

struggled at times since the resumption of play today on balls

:20:52.:20:57.

that have very little pace, but that time managed to generate a lot of

:20:58.:20:58.

pace and a very acute angle. Tsonga are trying to guess which way

:20:59.:21:12.

the American was going to go. He guessed wrong.

:21:13.:21:23.

There has been no sign of the train are back on. Isner had some work on

:21:24.:21:34.

his left knee. Just a few games after they came out on court. There

:21:35.:21:38.

was some taping on there. The taping came off. The trainer gave him a bit

:21:39.:21:43.

of a deep tissue massage and hang around for two or three games. But

:21:44.:21:50.

no need for Carlos Fernandez to get on the phone to call him back, which

:21:51.:21:56.

is good to see. Maybe just a bit stiff still. But moving well now and

:21:57.:22:08.

no signs of any lingering injury. He looks quite relaxed, doesn't he?

:22:09.:22:22.

Still looking for another full-time coach. Did a bit of work with Mardy

:22:23.:22:33.

Fish. But he has been on tour for so many years. He can handle time on

:22:34.:22:38.

his own. The crowd are really into this, and that is exactly what we

:22:39.:22:40.

wanted to see on this middle Sunday. You can see how important it is for

:22:41.:23:21.

John to somehow carved that ball some way onto the double hander of

:23:22.:23:30.

the Frenchman. And you can see why. It is a lethal shot. Tsonga is

:23:31.:23:36.

serving well. Even if Isner can get him on his racket and direct it

:23:37.:23:40.

towards the backhand side, you feel is of Tsonga will have enough time

:23:41.:23:47.

to run around it anyway. Something is just blowing next to the chair of

:23:48.:23:55.

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. It was picked up by the ball boy.

:23:56.:24:07.

We have been talking about how difficult it is for John Isner, with

:24:08.:24:13.

his tall frame, to get down to low balls. Tsonga is a tall man himself,

:24:14.:24:19.

and does so well. Bends down, nice, firm base and lovely, soft hands.

:24:20.:24:51.

He delivers another ace, his 15th of the match.

:24:52.:25:02.

Tsonga polished that game off and immediately went on another job

:25:03.:25:08.

around the court, and to his towel. Dried himself off all stop he hasn't

:25:09.:25:13.

stopped moving since that serve was hit. I think that sends a very firm

:25:14.:25:16.

message to the other end of the court, where Isner is struggling a

:25:17.:25:18.

bit physically. He's energised right now, Tsonga,

:25:19.:25:50.

trying to make it happen. That was in his hands. Not always going to be

:25:51.:25:58.

the case, though. He started well on a number of these service games. He

:25:59.:26:01.

hasn't been able to capitalise yet. He served and thought about

:26:02.:26:53.

volleying and then drifted behind and saw the quality of return from

:26:54.:27:03.

Tsonga. Because he is so tall, he is able to hit it flat wide. Old school

:27:04.:27:07.

tennis, wide wide with a volley. It is a great return from Tsonga.

:27:08.:27:28.

Enabling him to dip that ball at the feet of the oncoming server. Isner

:27:29.:27:33.

just cannot get down low enough to deal with it. This is the biggest

:27:34.:27:36.

point of the match so far. Not his biggest serve, but it was

:27:37.:27:55.

getting there. He has taken a few out wide. Excellent from Isner.

:27:56.:28:28.

Got a bit of traction early in the game, Tsonga. But it slipped away

:28:29.:28:41.

from him in the end. The Frenchman has played players that are six foot

:28:42.:28:46.

four over nine times prior to this match, AMP has won five and lost

:28:47.:28:52.

four. He has played the likes of Juan Martin del Potro. He lost to

:28:53.:28:57.

him in 2009. He has played Karlovic here in 2009. He had a nice run

:28:58.:29:04.

against tall players where he won four in a row before losing to

:29:05.:29:09.

Karlovic again here in Wimbledon in 2015. For somebody that doesn't

:29:10.:29:14.

always return as expertly as others, that is not a bad win loss record

:29:15.:29:19.

for Jo. But the pressure is building. Talking of records, he is

:29:20.:29:29.

also looking to tie the record for the Frenchman with the most Grand

:29:30.:29:34.

Slam matchwinners. It is 102 at the moment. Those are two of the four

:29:35.:29:43.

musketeers, as they were known. Just snatched at that one little

:29:44.:30:40.

bit. Just the second point the American has won when the rally has

:30:41.:30:44.

gone above nine shots. Tsonga has won nine, Isner just the two.

:30:45.:30:55.

He found the backhand off the return, but couldn't keep it away

:30:56.:31:05.

from the forehand this time. It is often more comfortable going inside

:31:06.:31:08.

out on that forehand. We saw the error on that wing as he tried to

:31:09.:31:15.

track it down the other line. But no problems with that one.

:31:16.:31:30.

He is trying to find the newest all available. -- the newest ball.

:31:31.:32:09.

He struggles on that forehand grip at times. He gets a little too much

:32:10.:32:14.

cover at times. We have seen a number of mis-hits, and you could

:32:15.:32:24.

see that one dropping into the net. Can't really keep a Continental grip

:32:25.:32:28.

and open the face up and block it back to often, Isner. That is

:32:29.:32:43.

fabulous. A bit of a classic to open up the weakness. He recognises that

:32:44.:32:51.

Isner is struggling physically, so if he can open up the court, make

:32:52.:32:54.

the big man move more, all the better. Smart play by the Frenchman.

:32:55.:33:16.

Credit to Isner there. When Tsonga blocks the return back, he has got

:33:17.:33:27.

to be aggressive with the next shot. He has to generate pace.

:33:28.:33:47.

Tsonga did well to stay in the rally. In the end, all to no avail.

:33:48.:34:18.

That was a little rash. Going back to your point, the more shots he

:34:19.:34:26.

makes Isner play, the better. Simply from a physical standpoint, Isner

:34:27.:34:31.

will expend more and more energy. It is hard to see where the break is

:34:32.:35:39.

going to come at the moment. Both are looking comfortable on serve and

:35:40.:35:41.

they look as if they have good written with the weapons they have,

:35:42.:35:46.

the first serve and forehand as well. Let's face it, there aren't

:35:47.:35:50.

going to be any return winners between these two. I don't think

:35:51.:35:55.

there is going to be an opportunity. So they will be looking to get a

:35:56.:36:00.

foothold on the third shot, the fourth shot. But in order for them

:36:01.:36:08.

to be able to do that, they have to make sure the return is good enough

:36:09.:36:12.

so they can get on the front foot with the next ball.

:36:13.:36:25.

Because most of them -- both of them play at the back, for Jo, it is a

:36:26.:36:35.

smart play. He has won nine and lost just two. He enjoys that far more.

:36:36.:36:42.

So he is not going to give Isner way out with the serving volley. That is

:36:43.:36:47.

why the smart money is going to be on Tsonga. This is now already

:36:48.:36:53.

obviously a war of attrition. Tsonga is in a better position, physically.

:36:54.:37:02.

That was a before and after picture that gentleman was taking.

:37:03.:37:43.

He is always looking for this. He knows Isner will be trying to get

:37:44.:37:53.

into the backhand side. And when he can, he will.

:37:54.:38:24.

133 miles an hour on that first serve all stop you know in the

:38:25.:38:36.

commentary box on court 18, there is the equivalent of a swear box there

:38:37.:38:40.

for commentators. So you have got to put a pound in if you mention that

:38:41.:38:47.

match at any time. It's impossible not to, of course. When Isner is on

:38:48.:38:54.

court. I'm making excuses for ourselves, Mark, obviously.

:38:55.:39:22.

Like the sun coming out in an English summer. This doesn't happen

:39:23.:39:30.

often. But it is a smart play from Tsonga. There is not a lot else he

:39:31.:39:35.

could have done, to be fair. I think Isner was looking to try and close

:39:36.:39:41.

the net there and finish the point. Well played, Tsonga. Again, he wins

:39:42.:39:43.

the first point on the Isner serve. Ushering it out with his hands,

:39:44.:39:55.

Isner. He has taken the effort out of

:39:56.:40:23.

Tsonga's hands. STUDIO: On it goes. While they

:40:24.:41:18.

change ends, we can to you that Richard Gasquet is through in four

:41:19.:41:26.

sucks, and he will play the winner of Isner or Tsonga -- in four sets.

:41:27.:41:30.

Another good tournament for the Frenchman. And a good tournament for

:41:31.:41:35.

another Frenchman, the 32nd seed. He is without Dram Martin da Ponte

:41:36.:41:41.

wrote in four sets. This is the third day in a row for Del Potro to

:41:42.:41:46.

be out on court. Maybe a bit too much tennis for him after that

:41:47.:41:50.

sensational victory over Stan Wawrinka. Add earlier onto the

:41:51.:41:58.

court, Serena Williams in Serena form. 6-3, 6-0, she went through

:41:59.:42:06.

against Germany's Annika Beck. So the six time champion stays on

:42:07.:42:10.

course for yet another rant slam victory. She's chasing Steffi Graf's

:42:11.:42:16.

number of 22. A delighted Centre Court crowd rise to a great

:42:17.:42:20.

champion. Serena Williams, through to the fourth round. That is what

:42:21.:42:24.

has been happening elsewhere. Back we go to this marathon.

:42:25.:42:32.

Every time one of them steps up to the line, you wonder whether it will

:42:33.:42:39.

bring the finishing line into sight, but so far it keeps getting pushed

:42:40.:42:50.

into the distance. Isner was unable to adapt.

:42:51.:43:43.

Gasquet, who plays the winner of this match, will be liking this.

:43:44.:43:52.

Even if his fellow Frenchman comes through, something is being taken

:43:53.:43:53.

out of the tank today. I suggest in or out, this is what

:43:54.:44:18.

Isner needs to try and do. He has just got to have a swing at some of

:44:19.:44:22.

these returns when he gets the racket on the ball. It's the only

:44:23.:44:26.

way he is going to break the Tsonga serve.

:44:27.:44:45.

Another game in the pocket. And actually, it was potentially a big

:44:46.:44:55.

challenge, because given where this is going and the speed and accuracy

:44:56.:45:01.

with which Isner serves, he might get to a big point and need

:45:02.:45:05.

challenges up his sleeve, Tsonga. So 40-0 up on his own serve possibly

:45:06.:45:15.

could come back to haunt him. You can't expect the lines people to get

:45:16.:45:19.

it right every time with that delivery coming down from the

:45:20.:45:23.

American's racket. Terrific return, skidding off the grass. And it gets

:45:24.:45:31.

the opening point on the board. So far, Isner has done a great job at

:45:32.:45:35.

immediately hitting back and levelling the scores on his service

:45:36.:45:37.

game. So tough for Jo-Wilfried Tsonga to

:45:38.:45:57.

know what to do, as it is for anybody returning this Isner

:45:58.:46:03.

delivery. Do you stand out wide and offer a different look at it? A bit

:46:04.:46:07.

more movement before he hits the serve? May be stepped up now, come

:46:08.:46:14.

inside the baseline for the second serve. But it's just so big, and he

:46:15.:46:31.

can do so much with it. There is no formula that you can simply turn to.

:46:32.:47:37.

Again, the point good from Tsonga. Reels off four straight points, the

:47:38.:47:47.

American. Trying to stop the tally of three times in his career he has

:47:48.:47:53.

been up two sets to love and loss the matches, whereas Tsonga trying

:47:54.:48:02.

to add to his tally of coming back from 2-0 down, famously on centre

:48:03.:48:07.

court against Roger Federer, just twice in his illustrious career,

:48:08.:48:16.

Roger, losing from two sets up. Here and followed by the next major

:48:17.:48:21.

tournament at the US Open where Djokovic managed to turn the tables

:48:22.:48:26.

on Roger Federer from 2-0 down, as well. The remarkable forehand return

:48:27.:48:33.

that will make its way into the hall of fame. A lot of people, lucky

:48:34.:48:39.

people, who have tickets have made their way to court number two. This

:48:40.:48:51.

is obviously a standout match. Up next, the Bryan brothers playing

:48:52.:48:55.

doubles. At this rate that will be round about 7pm!

:48:56.:49:02.

The drama, no matter when they finish, will build and build.

:49:03.:49:32.

UMPIRE: Mr Isner is challenging the call.

:49:33.:49:40.

It looked as if the slice took hold of the ball early. Just. You can see

:49:41.:49:48.

why it is important to have challenges up your sleeve later in

:49:49.:49:51.

this set. Great play from Isner. Going so

:49:52.:50:10.

wide. Then following it up with this. Wrong footing him.

:50:11.:50:33.

Absolutely. It also gives Tsonga something to think about.

:50:34.:50:57.

Acres of space and he caressed it into it.

:50:58.:52:17.

Tsonga will want this done by 8pm. France are playing in the

:52:18.:52:25.

quarterfinal of the European Championships. Against England... I

:52:26.:52:31.

am sorry, Iceland! Started a lot of the games with the

:52:32.:52:46.

serve out wide to be forehand side. Did it at the resumption of play

:52:47.:52:55.

today and Jo read it. Credit to the American once again.

:52:56.:53:01.

He has recognised... He needs to change a view things up. A little

:53:02.:53:11.

change. He has been doing well at taking the first point of the game.

:53:12.:53:15.

He has not managed to achieve it on the second but this time he does. We

:53:16.:53:25.

could be approaching a different outcome on one of Isner's service

:53:26.:53:26.

games here. Did not want to play the point to

:53:27.:53:52.

tentatively. Disappointed with his shot selection more than anything

:53:53.:53:55.

else. Should've gone back up the line, Tsonga.

:53:56.:54:03.

Those are the chances you have to take. Because generally right behind

:54:04.:54:08.

them is one of those that cannot be returned. He hacks to commit to a

:54:09.:54:16.

particular game plan, Tsonga, when he gets the opportunity in these

:54:17.:54:21.

rallies. He has to know exactly what he is going to do. Whether he will

:54:22.:54:26.

step up, go for the quick weather, all work its way into the point. --

:54:27.:54:28.

quick winner. Timing is everything now for Tsonga.

:54:29.:54:50.

He needs to see a fume more of those. There is another one -- few

:54:51.:55:04.

more. Tsonga has been at 75% with his first serve and that is why,

:55:05.:55:10.

after 25 games of the final set, we have yet to have a break of serve.

:55:11.:55:16.

We had one break point. A momentous moment, but it was quickly raised

:55:17.:55:18.

with an ace -- he erased it. It is getting pretty hot out there.

:55:19.:55:40.

At the beginning of resumption of play, the beginning of the fourth

:55:41.:55:48.

set, it was more overcast. Cooler. It is pretty warm now. We need to

:55:49.:55:56.

qualify it is British warm, rather than actual holiday location warm.

:55:57.:56:01.

This time last year, there were record temperatures. We were hitting

:56:02.:56:10.

37 degrees. We were. We have not touched that on the mercury scale

:56:11.:56:12.

yet so far at these championships. I am pretty sure Isner would like it

:56:13.:56:24.

a couple of degrees cooler. Routine brilliance on serve from the

:56:25.:58:00.

Frenchman. Nothing short of emphatic. Three hours and 45 minutes

:58:01.:58:11.

on the match clock. They cannot be separated at 13-13 in this final

:58:12.:58:17.

set. One man certainly looks more fresh than the other.

:58:18.:58:47.

That was a good body serve from Isner. Always wise to keep varying

:58:48.:59:02.

the serve, even if you are having success in one particular direction.

:59:03.:59:22.

It goes to show you do not have to to have the passing shot past the

:59:23.:59:39.

player, or trying to, going at the player sometimes pays dividends.

:59:40.:00:19.

14-13 in the final set. Looking at Isner's five set record, going past

:00:20.:00:29.

where the tie-breaker would have been, he has lost his last three.

:00:30.:00:34.

One to the great Tommy Haas at the French Open in 2013. He lost to

:00:35.:00:43.

James Ward in the Davis Cup, 15-13 in the final set. He also lost to

:00:44.:00:49.

Marin Cilic here last year, 12-10 in the fifth. And a couple of other

:00:50.:01:00.

losses. And another classic at Roland Garros. Also losing to Marin

:01:01.:01:11.

Cilic 9-7. Nicolas Mahut, we mention that match against as we will

:01:12.:01:16.

continue to. David Nalbandian, the Australian Open, he won that. 10-8

:01:17.:01:22.

in the fifth. The one top ten when he has had, and major title, against

:01:23.:01:39.

Andy Roddick, winning in the 7-5. He has lost more than he has won when

:01:40.:01:44.

it has got past 6-6. How much more has this got in it?

:01:45.:02:04.

I should imagine his tie-breaker record is ready good, right?

:02:05.:02:17.

Isner's within the opening set in the tie-breaker, his 300th career

:02:18.:02:42.

tie-break win. He has lost 175. Tsonga with a win in the tie-breaker

:02:43.:02:50.

here, went to 173, he has lost 125. Between the two it is hard to say

:02:51.:02:53.

who you would favour. Did not look as though it would be a

:02:54.:03:11.

good enough return, from the middle of the court on the forehand for the

:03:12.:03:16.

Frenchman. The first brittleness we have seen from Tsonga. It feels like

:03:17.:03:23.

it has come out of nowhere. He has been rock solid on serve. Right now,

:03:24.:03:26.

Isner is two point away. Did he really need to be that

:03:27.:03:56.

ambitious? Just so conscious, both players, of keeping it off their

:03:57.:04:00.

opponent's forehand. It was a great kick serve from Tsonga, but the

:04:01.:04:05.

forehand was so close to being out. There was not really a kick, more of

:04:06.:04:42.

a slice. Quite a brave serve in the end. The trusty big forehand. He

:04:43.:04:48.

knows he can use the crowd to his advantage, as well.

:04:49.:04:55.

Tsonga trying to energise himself and the crowd. To be fair, they do

:04:56.:05:13.

not need a lot of encouragement. They are loving this final set. It

:05:14.:05:20.

is all about finding an edge. You may think that is what happens on

:05:21.:05:28.

court, maybe not. If Jo can make the crowd heard, because there is no

:05:29.:05:32.

doubt about it, the lion's share with the Frenchman, then maybe it

:05:33.:05:39.

would have a negative impact on Isner.

:05:40.:06:09.

He threaded the needle. It was delicately balanced in the previous

:06:10.:06:19.

game in terms of Tsonga's survival in this match. The reverse can be

:06:20.:06:26.

said now. In terms of where Isner is standing, stranded at the net.

:06:27.:06:36.

That was unlucky. He read the serve well. He just tries to bunt it back

:06:37.:06:54.

deep. Tsonga read it but could not fashion

:06:55.:07:01.

the return of serve he wanted. They were not on the edge of their

:07:02.:07:24.

seats, they were out of their seats! Jo was there, he had a racket on the

:07:25.:07:30.

ball. He could not quite control it and nudge it down the line.

:07:31.:07:35.

Fantastic from Isner, given that he was under so much pressure. What a

:07:36.:07:41.

dodgy volley. A little bit pushy, but he got away with it.

:07:42.:07:53.

That looked like a serve that was 90% out and 10% in, but it was all

:07:54.:08:00.

in, in the end. On -- unplayable.

:08:01.:08:12.

Phenomenal! He had to pick this Isner approach

:08:13.:08:30.

shot and did. He gambled on him going back behind him. He was there

:08:31.:08:35.

with just an off time. Down the line. So hard to make.

:08:36.:08:49.

It is those moments of brilliance that could just swing it.

:08:50.:08:59.

You can feel the tension rising up a notch, every point.

:09:00.:09:22.

UMPIRE: New balls, please. A couple of captivating games. SUE

:09:23.:09:36.

BARKER: On and on it goes. Four minute short of four hours. It was a

:09:37.:09:44.

long way to match the record set in 2010. 70-68. It was one record after

:09:45.:09:52.

another. It took three days and lasted 11 hours and five minutes.

:09:53.:09:59.

183 games in total. 215 aces between them. An unbelievable match that

:10:00.:10:05.

nobody will forget. And they struck at the closest friendship after it.

:10:06.:10:10.

They shared a piece of history. Both playing their part in one of the

:10:11.:10:14.

all-time great matches at these championships. That was in 2010. I

:10:15.:10:20.

wonder how long we have to go in this one.

:10:21.:10:28.

It is back to the future for John Isner. We have had Hollywood movie

:10:29.:10:40.

scripts being thrown at us. The dose was talking about it about the rain

:10:41.:10:46.

delays. Marcus Willis, John Isner, Nicolas Mahut. This is a sequel and

:10:47.:10:51.

it is doing well. In general, sequels do not do as well as the

:10:52.:10:57.

original. The fact it is John Isner against another Frenchman, I think.

:10:58.:10:59.

It adds something to it. Nicolas Mahut is still going well in

:11:00.:11:06.

the tournament. It was a good change-up from Tsonga.

:11:07.:11:35.

He has been peppering the backhand of the deuce side.

:11:36.:11:51.

It is important for Tsonga to keep Isner guessing.

:11:52.:12:08.

And that means sometimes going to that strength, as we saw there.

:12:09.:12:14.

Isner almost made what probably would have been a winning forehand.

:12:15.:12:24.

He has targeted areas he has predominantly not gone to in that

:12:25.:12:37.

particular game. Good hands with the drop shot and

:12:38.:13:15.

then with the pick-up volley. He looks a little bit edgy on this. It

:13:16.:13:24.

was a forehand poke. In actual fact, I think it was a decent shot. Tsonga

:13:25.:13:31.

did well to get up to it. Isner was equal to it.

:13:32.:13:48.

Yet again we see Isner struggle when Tsonga can get the ball down to his

:13:49.:13:56.

feet. It is so uncomfortable, dealing with these kinds of low

:13:57.:13:59.

balls, being such a tall man. That simply was not a good enough

:14:00.:14:43.

approach shot. Super conservative from Isner. Did not have the right

:14:44.:14:44.

placement. You can see how predetermined he is

:14:45.:14:56.

in terms of where he takes the position just inside the service

:14:57.:14:59.

line. We have the chance to get another step in and tighter to the

:15:00.:15:04.

net would have made it a volley, rather than a half-volley. A chance

:15:05.:15:07.

for the Frenchman again. I should qualify that. One eighth of

:15:08.:15:14.

a chance! It is easy to say in hindsight but

:15:15.:15:32.

baby on these -- may be on the service, Tsonga should be giving him

:15:33.:15:33.

a different look at it. The umpire has lost count! LAUGHTER.

:15:34.:15:46.

He is nodding and smiling. Just checking that all is well. I

:15:47.:16:11.

think he is keen to get a bottle of water or something for himself. And

:16:12.:16:16.

they are checking they have got enough balls, he is thinking ahead.

:16:17.:16:20.

Smart umpiring. Who knows where this is heading? The last few games have

:16:21.:16:29.

not been meandering towards a conclusion, it has been pulsating

:16:30.:16:32.

stuff with the closeness of some of these returning games and wondering

:16:33.:16:39.

whether Isner can keep finding the serve against Jo. Don't forget,

:16:40.:16:46.

these are two top 20 players. Both of them have been top tenors. Isner

:16:47.:17:00.

reached his highest ranking of number nine. It is a high-quality

:17:01.:17:06.

match. As I said earlier, I think the drama and detention will just

:17:07.:17:09.

built to what will be a wonderful conclusion. But when that is is

:17:10.:17:11.

anyone's guess. Slipped from Isner. Awkward, as you

:17:12.:17:52.

can see. That didn't look great for the big man. We haven't had one of

:17:53.:17:57.

those rallies for a while. 13 shots in it. And I think this rally will

:17:58.:18:05.

probably hurt Isner more than that way. The length of that rally will

:18:06.:18:09.

probably take a bit more puff out of him. Hopefully, he's OK. He's just

:18:10.:18:19.

feeling the right hip area. He could have taken a little bit more time if

:18:20.:18:26.

he wanted. He does have a medical time-out, of course. We saw the

:18:27.:18:29.

trainer out earlier for the left knee.

:18:30.:18:48.

Isner has challenged it straightaway. And I think Jo also

:18:49.:18:54.

knows that has missed the line. You could see exactly what Tsonga was

:18:55.:18:57.

trying to do in this rally. He wanted to run his opponent from side

:18:58.:19:02.

to side to side, but in the end, he took too much of that forehand,

:19:03.:19:06.

wasn't aggressive enough through it and pushed it wide. It can be a

:19:07.:19:15.

dangerous thing to change the pace as much as he has there.

:19:16.:19:26.

So difficult to be nimble enough when you are six tentlike Isner to

:19:27.:19:35.

be able to turn back -- when you are 6-foot ten, like Isner. If he gets

:19:36.:19:48.

it moving side to side, any movement is going to benefit Jo-Wilfried

:19:49.:19:56.

Tsonga. There is no doubt he is thinking really hard about this and

:19:57.:19:58.

try to formulate the tactic required to win it. That isn't it.

:19:59.:20:20.

Oh, boy, what a dramatic way to bring up much point. It had

:20:21.:21:13.

everything. A touch lucky from Isner. A bad miss at the end from

:21:14.:21:23.

Tsonga. A code violation coming. But more importantly, match point.

:21:24.:21:33.

The pressure got the better of him there. Can you believe it? Isner was

:21:34.:21:57.

nowhere near there. He went back to that backhand side,

:21:58.:22:30.

the spot where he almost hit the cleanest. He had to make that a

:22:31.:22:32.

first serve, and he did. On that match point, he went out

:22:33.:22:58.

wide. Wonderful from Tsonga. I don't care who you are, how

:22:59.:23:35.

experienced you are, how many times you have played on the big stage. To

:23:36.:23:40.

force yourself to be as positive as Jo-Wilfried Tsonga was in those last

:23:41.:23:47.

three points takes a very special personality and character.

:23:48.:24:36.

Isner is trying to push the pain to the back of his mind.

:24:37.:24:58.

That was a really tentative serve. Isner could be really feeling it

:24:59.:25:06.

physically. Tsonga has let him off the hook again. That has been one of

:25:07.:25:12.

the things in his career. He hasn't had a consistent pattern with the

:25:13.:25:16.

return in terms of stance, what he wants to do, whether to chip or

:25:17.:25:20.

whether to hit. In some of the big moments against the elite, he has

:25:21.:25:24.

not known exactly what he wants to do, whereas they are very set in

:25:25.:25:33.

their formula. Well, the pace has come down considerably on those last

:25:34.:25:36.

couple of Serbs from Isner. The outcome is the same for the moment.

:25:37.:25:44.

-- the last couple of Serbs. And the courage required to hit through

:25:45.:25:50.

those ground strokes is the same for Isner as it was for Tsonga. Real

:25:51.:25:54.

credit to both these players. For the most part, they have kept their

:25:55.:26:02.

cam. But there was one moment when Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, at 30-30, lost

:26:03.:26:08.

that incredible lengthy rally that had everything. And they are yet to

:26:09.:26:15.

retrieve the ball from Fulham! That is why he got the code violation. I

:26:16.:26:23.

don't condone that, obviously. But you can't blame him, maybe. That was

:26:24.:26:29.

potentially a crucial point that he just missed out on. And they are

:26:30.:26:35.

under intense pressure, these two men. UMPIRE: time.

:26:36.:26:44.

This is a glorious sight. No sign of the covers today. Play got under way

:26:45.:27:05.

at 11.30. It was a good decision from these guys to make their way to

:27:06.:27:06.

Court Number Two. It is so difficult to get enough

:27:07.:27:37.

pace on the ball once it starts dropping like that. Needs to work

:27:38.:27:43.

harder with his feet to get up on the baseline. Jo looks very

:27:44.:27:52.

comfortable with those points. If you can just whip through this game,

:27:53.:27:57.

the Frenchman, it will be in Justin to see what pace Isner -- it will be

:27:58.:28:03.

interesting to see what pace Isner delivers. This game stands in stark

:28:04.:28:15.

comparison to the drama of the previous one on the Frenchman's

:28:16.:28:19.

serve, where he had to save the match point. No such trials and

:28:20.:28:35.

tribulations. Arguably the most important point coming up now after

:28:36.:28:40.

the match point. Just to see how fit Isner is. The last serve in the

:28:41.:28:45.

previous game was 108 off his first serve. He has been averaging 127.

:28:46.:29:02.

Gorgeous! Feathery touch. We have seen him struggle, but he dealt with

:29:03.:29:09.

that one beautifully. Great racket work. That is just three miles an

:29:10.:29:22.

hour above-average. But if you can have accuracy like that, it is not

:29:23.:29:24.

going to make a massive difference. He is concentrating on basement.

:29:25.:29:30.

Even a 119 mile an hour serve is strong enough to get the job done --

:29:31.:29:33.

is concentrating on placement. Against the 12th in the world, it is

:29:34.:29:56.

going to give him a few more opportunities. That lack of pace, he

:29:57.:30:02.

is going to have more time to see the ball coming at him, Tsonga.

:30:03.:30:16.

What athleticism! Jumping for the smash. He may well be jumping for

:30:17.:30:28.

joy soon. He senses something here. He knows this could be his

:30:29.:30:35.

opportunity. Isner is struggling physically. Not so much on the

:30:36.:30:37.

serve. Well taken. Now is not the time for

:30:38.:30:50.

a bit of fun, though. Exactly what was needed there. Just

:30:51.:31:29.

had to make Isner play it. AUDIENCE: Tsonga!

:31:30.:31:36.

A third time would leave him serving for the match. Somehow, Isner

:31:37.:31:49.

gathers himself and rediscovers the pace on his first serve. Maybe he

:31:50.:31:56.

has just been lolling him into a false sense of security.

:31:57.:32:21.

Not easy to play these rallies, because there is not a lot of wind

:32:22.:32:29.

out here at the moment. You could arguably say that Tsonga might be a

:32:30.:32:36.

little tentative, but credit to him. He saw his opportunity, put his foot

:32:37.:32:40.

down on the forehand and he has gained himself another break point.

:32:41.:32:55.

UMPIRE: game, Tsonga. Can you believe it?

:32:56.:33:11.

In the end, it was an unforced error that handed Tsonga the chance to

:33:12.:33:17.

serve out for the match and a place in the fourth round. You go back to

:33:18.:33:27.

the fourth point of that game, the electrifying movement and smash from

:33:28.:33:32.

Tsonga that kept him in it. Just wondering how much of the Tsonga

:33:33.:33:36.

movement contributed to the forehand missive John Isner. It was a big

:33:37.:33:42.

serve, 132. Tsonga managed to get his racket on it, but it was a

:33:43.:33:49.

relatively easy half court ball. And more often than not, that is

:33:50.:33:53.

bread-and-butter, even under pressure like this. But I'm pretty

:33:54.:33:57.

sure Tsonga gave it a bit of extra movement, faked maybe one side. In

:33:58.:34:03.

the middle of the court, Isner had a choice. You either go crosscourt,

:34:04.:34:07.

down the line, down the middle of the court. But I think maybe this

:34:08.:34:15.

movement from Tsonga, he gave him a dummy. And you never know, that

:34:16.:34:19.

might have made all the difference. He said one match point. -- saved

:34:20.:34:38.

one match point. All of his aces on the due side have

:34:39.:35:08.

come down. Another one to add to the collection. He can sense victory.

:35:09.:35:42.

UMPIRE: Mr Isner has two challenges remaining.

:35:43.:36:10.

What an exhibition he has put on here. He is making this game look

:36:11.:36:20.

easy. Let me tell you, it is anything but. Showing great focus.

:36:21.:36:30.

He knows the writing is on the wall. He is not writing his name into the

:36:31.:36:34.

next round. It will be Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

:36:35.:36:50.

He went for a massive second serve. OK, he's 40-0 up. He has got a bit

:36:51.:37:08.

of leeway, but why so big, Jo? Cameras at the ready for the moment

:37:09.:37:10.

of victory. It's on his racket. And he's done it. And look at the

:37:11.:37:36.

delight for Tsonga. As he finally sees off the American, John Isner.

:37:37.:37:40.

Another classic here at Wimbledon for the American. The first one in

:37:41.:37:48.

2010, he exited with a win. Not today. Defeat for Isner. And a

:37:49.:37:54.

fourth-round appearance once again at Wimbledon for Tsonga. How well he

:37:55.:38:00.

kept his nerve. He said the match point. He comes back from 2-0 down

:38:01.:38:13.

for the fourth time in his career. A prolonged standing ovation from this

:38:14.:38:17.

packed house on Court Number Two. This is exactly what you want on the

:38:18.:38:24.

people's Sunday, just the fourth time in Wimbledon history we have

:38:25.:38:28.

had a play on the middle Sunday. They have been treated to something

:38:29.:38:36.

special. And you have to say, that man in the pink shirt was the man

:38:37.:38:43.

that most of the spectators wanted to see come out on top. It took him

:38:44.:38:50.

79 games in total. Four hours and 24 minutes. But he did it. Middle

:38:51.:38:59.

Sunday sees one of the fans' favourites with a win. And a place

:39:00.:39:07.

in the next round to take on fellow Frenchman Richard Gasquet.

:39:08.:39:21.

He is such an engaged in character. He has a wonderful connection with

:39:22.:39:35.

the crowd, no matter where he plays. Cavalier at times on court. Typical

:39:36.:39:40.

Gallic flair. But my goodness, what a fighter too. He signs the balls,

:39:41.:39:50.

but more importantly, he signs his name into the next round at this

:39:51.:39:53.

year's Championships at Wimbledon. SUE BARKER: that must be one of the

:39:54.:40:02.

matches of the championship he. And for all those people who went online

:40:03.:40:08.

yesterday to get a ticket, a ground pass, have really been treated to a

:40:09.:40:12.

magnificent match, a magnificent battle between two great players,

:40:13.:40:17.

the big server, John Isner from America, the great athlete from

:40:18.:40:20.

France, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. You just wonder how much is left in the tank

:40:21.:40:26.

for Jo-Wilfried after that. Four hours and 25 minutes, this match

:40:27.:40:31.

went on, and he will have to turn around tomorrow and take on Richard

:40:32.:40:36.

Gasquet, last year's semifinalist. But what an absolute treat, what a

:40:37.:40:41.

joy to watch this match. We have had absolutely everything. And what a

:40:42.:40:46.

way to finish off. One dive, one side and then the other. And what a

:40:47.:40:54.

reaction. That is what he is famous for. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, through to

:40:55.:41:00.

the fourth round here at Wimbledon. I think everybody is taking a breath

:41:01.:41:10.

after that. And now we are going to be heading back to Centre Court in

:41:11.:41:13.

just a moment. But that was the scene a few hours ago more where

:41:14.:41:18.

Serena Williams was in action. She was taking on Annika Beck of

:41:19.:41:22.

Germany. She was taken to three sets in her match previously, but didn't

:41:23.:41:28.

need long today. She lost three games to the young German, winning

:41:29.:41:34.

6-3, 6-0. That was what the champion needed, an easy match after such a

:41:35.:41:39.

test in her last round. She is enjoying being on Centre Court on

:41:40.:41:43.

people's Sunday. But more importantly, happy to be back in the

:41:44.:41:50.

fourth round at Wimbledon. Serena, if you could write your

:41:51.:41:53.

midweek report card of how Wimbledon has been going, how would you assess

:41:54.:41:58.

what you have been through so far? I would just write "Survived". We

:41:59.:42:04.

asked tennis fans get so caught up and we expect you to win matches, we

:42:05.:42:10.

expect Novak to win matches, and it becomes headline news when you guys

:42:11.:42:14.

don't. Can you put us in the position of what that feels like?

:42:15.:42:19.

Obviously, Novak is making the headlines today. Yeah, it's an

:42:20.:42:25.

interesting position to be in. But at the end of the day, we just try

:42:26.:42:35.

our hardest to always win. Nobody can be invincible. Is that just the

:42:36.:42:40.

ebb and flow of sport. As a sports star, do you just have to accept

:42:41.:42:44.

that sometimes, these things happen? I guess so. Obviously, I don't think

:42:45.:42:52.

anyone is perfect. I think there are a lot of athletes who have been

:42:53.:43:01.

close to perfect. And on every day, they do the best they can. You end

:43:02.:43:07.

your where others have gone on. What keeps you going, is the love of

:43:08.:43:11.

winning, the hatred of losing? It is a bit of both. It is also the fact

:43:12.:43:18.

that I am out here playing and doing something I dreamt of doing growing

:43:19.:43:23.

up. And I still have the unity to do it, so that keeps me going. This is

:43:24.:43:28.

people's Sunday, where friends and families can come and watch. I was

:43:29.:43:32.

wondering about your family. It is great to see your mum buzzing

:43:33.:43:35.

between you and Venus of the matches. How important is your mum

:43:36.:43:40.

not just to your success, but to you in life? My mum is obviously super

:43:41.:43:46.

important to me, my life, my career. I would not be sitting here if not

:43:47.:43:51.

for her. It is always great to see her. She is so respectful of other

:43:52.:43:56.

players, applauding as well. It seems like a nice family unit. And

:43:57.:44:04.

in terms of Kuznetsova, who you play next, you would again cast her as a

:44:05.:44:07.

friend and someone you have played a lot of matches with. I have a lot of

:44:08.:44:11.

respect for her, but she is also a very intense opponent for me. I want

:44:12.:44:15.

to be able to win. I am sure she wants the same. So I am going to do

:44:16.:44:27.

my hardest to do the best I can. SUE BARKER: it is a busy time for

:44:28.:44:31.

her. She will be back on court tomorrow.

:44:32.:44:46.

This match is live over on BBC One. And it Katarina Witt Macara the

:44:47.:45:05.

house now defeated Strycova. She is through 6-4, 6-2.

:45:06.:45:14.

So she will be back on court tomorrow. We are going to take you

:45:15.:45:21.

out to a doubles match now taking place on court number 12 between the

:45:22.:45:24.

British pair of Naomi Broady and Heather Watson, up against Alexander

:45:25.:45:28.

Panova and Shelby Rogers. We join it in the first set, the start of the

:45:29.:45:33.

tie-break. The commentators armless Miley and Chris Bradman. -- Liz

:45:34.:45:38.

Smiley and Chris Bradman. A terrific point from Broady. Two

:45:39.:46:10.

really good lobs. Good enough to finish the point off with the

:46:11.:46:16.

backhand volley. In the tie-break you serve to the opposite end from

:46:17.:46:19.

which you have been serving the whole set. It takes a bit of

:46:20.:46:28.

adjusting. We hear quite a lot of noise because the adjacent court is

:46:29.:46:41.

the Jo -- Jo-Wilfried Tsonga match. A perfectly timed cross. Did not

:46:42.:46:44.

move too early, Watson. That was well read. Waiting for

:46:45.:46:51.

that. A terrific volley from Panova. She tries to hit over the ball on

:46:52.:48:21.

the return of the serve, Broady, but sometimes when the ball is not in

:48:22.:48:25.

the right position, you have to make adjustments. You cannot always play

:48:26.:48:30.

the shot you want to play, sometimes you have to play the shot you need

:48:31.:48:37.

to play. It is tough to concentrate because of the noise from the other

:48:38.:48:41.

court after every point, because of the drama. John Isner could not do

:48:42.:48:45.

it again, could he? She made like she was moving for the

:48:46.:49:14.

middle, Broady, and then stood her ground. Just enough of an invitation

:49:15.:49:19.

for the opponent to go up the line. This is the netperson's job. Making

:49:20.:49:32.

her opponent think she was going to the left, so a little bit of cat and

:49:33.:49:33.

mouse. Good tennis. The angles created,

:49:34.:51:40.

quick exchanges at the net. That is what the fans love to watch. 4-2 up

:51:41.:51:47.

in games and points in this tie-breaker, in this set, Broady and

:51:48.:51:50.

Watson. Huge pressure for them now. That was a nice touch. Very nicely

:51:51.:52:13.

done. Not easy to hit, the volley was below the height of the net and

:52:14.:52:18.

Heather Watson hack to get down. Always difficult to play a shot that

:52:19.:52:24.

is dropping. Had enough under spin on it so that when it hits the court

:52:25.:52:26.

it just dies. Made it. A favourite shot. The

:52:27.:52:52.

backhand that goes up the line. It was well struck. Set point.

:52:53.:53:02.

Has been very solid on the return so far, Watson.

:53:03.:53:26.

Expected it again, Panova. Did well to hang onto it. I am not too sure

:53:27.:53:35.

whether Heather Watson thought maybe Panova would move to the middle, but

:53:36.:53:39.

she was not going anywhere. One of those volleys that do not bounce. If

:53:40.:53:50.

you hit her in a three quarters backhand, come on and pass me, would

:53:51.:53:55.

be the question to Rogers. Someone is at the baseline and someone is at

:53:56.:54:00.

the net. They don't play that way. The transition shot. You see it in

:54:01.:54:04.

singles, also. Maybe the fact they don't put enough

:54:05.:54:28.

emphasis on doubles. All of these girls, they are capable. They just

:54:29.:54:33.

have to be shown how, they have to be taught. Michelle looking on. How

:54:34.:54:41.

many matches has she watched in her career as a tennis mum. Second set

:54:42.:54:45.

point. That looked very nervous. The wind

:54:46.:55:22.

really picked up. There was a gust really blowing behind Heather

:55:23.:55:28.

Watson. The second serve toss was a little bit dodgy, wasn't it? A bit

:55:29.:55:36.

nervy. It is windier than it was a few hours ago.

:55:37.:55:56.

Overhead. Setting up a third set point.

:55:57.:56:18.

Missed it. First set to the British pair. 49 minutes. SUE BARKER: What

:56:19.:56:34.

an entertaining tie-break. This is the score live, 4-4 in the second

:56:35.:56:39.

set and Naomi Broady serving with the game point to go up 5-4. The

:56:40.:56:44.

doubles matches on the red button if you want to continue watching. Over

:56:45.:56:49.

on BBC One it is this match featuring Alexander Zverev, who has

:56:50.:56:55.

made a comeback. He will not be happy with that because it was a

:56:56.:56:58.

game point to go up 5-2 against Tomas Berdych. If you want to watch

:56:59.:57:06.

that match it is on BBC One. We can catch up with the news of the

:57:07.:57:11.

day. Nick Kyrgios is through to the fourth round to face Andy Murray,

:57:12.:57:17.

after defeating Feliciano Lopez in four sets on Court Number One.

:57:18.:57:23.

Thoroughly entertaining match and beautiful shotmaking from both sides

:57:24.:57:27.

of the net. Such a great character, one of the big stories of tennis

:57:28.:57:32.

hears and Nick Kyrgios is through to the fourth round to face Andy Murray

:57:33.:57:36.

tomorrow. I have a feeling that will be on Centre Court. But what a

:57:37.:57:48.

battle on Court Number Two. Almost four and a half hours it took

:57:49.:57:53.

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga to defeat John Isner and he did it in style. All of

:57:54.:57:58.

these fans who went online to get the ground passes probably wondered,

:57:59.:58:04.

what match will I be able to see? It was this one. An absolute treat. The

:58:05.:58:09.

match of the Championships so far. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga is through to the

:58:10.:58:13.

fourth round. The wonder how much that has taken out of him but he

:58:14.:58:17.

goes to the top of the list of Frenchman with the most Grand Slam

:58:18.:58:30.

wins, 103. Lucas Pouille of France defeated Del Potro. Del Potro put

:58:31.:58:35.

out Stan Wawrinka early in the tournament, but his challenge ended

:58:36.:58:40.

on Court 12. Lucas Pouille goes through to face Bernard Tomic in the

:58:41.:58:41.

next round. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga will face Richard

:58:42.:58:55.

Gasquet, who won in four sets. The last time there were four Frenchman

:58:56.:59:01.

in the last 16 at Wimbledon was in 1929. Four in the fourth round, in

:59:02.:59:07.

the last 16. 16 Frenchman started the Championships. In the ladies,

:59:08.:59:13.

Serena Williams looked in impeccable form on Centre Court, dropping three

:59:14.:59:17.

games. What a difference to her last round when she was pushed to the

:59:18.:59:18.

limit. She stays on course for grand slam

:59:19.:59:33.

title number 22. Another battle on Court Number One.

:59:34.:59:38.

Kuznetsova coming back from 5-2 down to win this against the American

:59:39.:59:45.

Sloane Stephens. Kuznetsova has been a quarterfinal is three times at

:59:46.:59:48.

Wimbledon and she will face Serena Williams. That will be a match to

:59:49.:59:54.

look forward to tomorrow. The first match on Centre Court saw

:59:55.:00:00.

Coco Vandeweghe serving here at match point, putting out Roberta

:00:01.:00:05.

Vinci, last year's US Open finalist. She really has a game suited to

:00:06.:00:11.

grass. She is through to the fourth round. Her best was the

:00:12.:00:14.

quarterfinals. She is on her way. The Centre Court crowd really

:00:15.:00:29.

enjoying that entertaining match. And through to the fourth round for

:00:30.:00:36.

the second time, back in 2009, is the Russian. She came through 7-5,

:00:37.:00:41.

7-5 today. Going well in the singles. She has been runner-up in

:00:42.:00:43.

the doubles twice here. And she will face... That was a

:00:44.:01:04.

wonderful lob to end. She put out good bit of yesterday. -- Petra

:01:05.:01:14.

Kvitova. It seems a quiet day. 4000 ground

:01:15.:01:20.

passes given out so plenty of room for people to mill around. All the

:01:21.:01:24.

action on the big show courts. BBC One is on Centre Court. We will head

:01:25.:01:32.

over to Court Number One IIc Jiri Vesely against Joao Sousa, who is

:01:33.:01:36.

aiming to be the first Portuguese player to reach the round of 16 at a

:01:37.:01:40.

Grand Slam. He is up against the big hitter. This is their first big

:01:41.:01:47.

meeting. So far going the way of Jiri Vesely. We can join our

:01:48.:01:56.

commentators. COMMENTATOR: He is compact on the

:01:57.:02:00.

return. He likes to step cross and cut off the angle. Very efficient in

:02:01.:02:02.

that regard. The Portuguese on the board for the

:02:03.:02:41.

first time. I was going to call Sousa the best

:02:42.:03:04.

tennis player Portugal has ever had. Nobody has threatened quite like he

:03:05.:03:07.

has in the second week of a Grand Slam. Spent his formative years

:03:08.:03:16.

between 15 and 20 training in Barcelona, where he still bases

:03:17.:03:25.

himself. He is a very bright lad. He speaks six languages. That is his

:03:26.:03:35.

coach. Wearing the cap. They have been together a long time. They met

:03:36.:03:44.

at the academy. He has been around the top 50 for

:03:45.:03:52.

the last three years, Sousa. He said he loves the clay courts. It favours

:03:53.:03:59.

his forehand. But he has plenty of work to do here.

:04:00.:04:11.

It is like trying to lob a skyscraper. Six foot six and a

:04:12.:04:50.

thunderous dismissal to this smash. He has the facility to take the

:04:51.:05:11.

backhand early and look at the good court position. There was only

:05:12.:05:13.

winner of that point. He has many problems right now. He

:05:14.:05:40.

is the seeded player, but you would not know it.

:05:41.:06:03.

Almost a little sympathy applause for Sousa, who is struggled to get

:06:04.:06:10.

in on the Vesely service games. He has been as deep as 30, but not

:06:11.:06:12.

beyond. He is still 22. Will be 23 soon

:06:13.:06:45.

enough, Vesely. From the Czech Republic. Six foot six. 64th in the

:06:46.:06:50.

world but many think he should be higher.

:06:51.:07:03.

The 31st seed. The 27-year-old from Portugal, who is serving to stay in

:07:04.:07:07.

this first set. He has been up against it, winning

:07:08.:07:26.

three from 11 points off his second serve. He normally prides himself on

:07:27.:07:27.

his grand shots. It has been an area where he has

:07:28.:07:44.

really been struggling. Up at 42%, first-serveds in. Compared with 60%

:07:45.:07:45.

from his opponent. That was sublime. It is amazing how

:07:46.:08:22.

you free off when you get a double break cushion behind you. That was

:08:23.:08:25.

with ease from Vesely. Jiri Vesely provided one of the

:08:26.:09:06.

upsets of the opening week. Cochran of the fancied eighth seed, Dominic

:09:07.:09:11.

Thiem. He now has a chance to do something

:09:12.:09:22.

he has not done before and push his way into the fourth round. It would

:09:23.:09:28.

be a prize for both players. Sousa has not been that far and he is

:09:29.:09:33.

doing it behind a serve that is affected. It is simplistic. He has

:09:34.:09:40.

gorgeous timing. He has the Pete Sampras toe lift at the beginning of

:09:41.:09:44.

the action. And gets up there to hit the ball at its apex. A thunderous

:09:45.:09:51.

and easy power he has. You can see he was dangerous enough to oust

:09:52.:09:55.

Dominic Thiem in straight sets. All tie-breaks. A real menace on this

:09:56.:10:02.

surface. The ball skidding off after the serve. Another close-up look as

:10:03.:10:05.

he serves for the first set. One of the big pluses of his game is

:10:06.:10:39.

he stands up tight to the baseline on the backhand. You can imagine

:10:40.:10:44.

when Sousa gets his fearsome forehand firing, he might get rushed

:10:45.:10:46.

in that regard. The second ace of the match. 130

:10:47.:11:15.

mph. That is not a Sunday afternoon ramble, it is motoring!

:11:16.:11:36.

UMPIRE: Mr Vesely is challenging the call. The first challenge of the

:11:37.:11:45.

match. Both have three in their pockets so he might as well use one

:11:46.:11:46.

up here. He was too quick and powerful for

:11:47.:12:28.

the Portuguese. Very efficient backhand. Just crunches through it,

:12:29.:12:37.

flat and hard. Through the baseline of Sousa.

:12:38.:13:01.

There is something on Sousa's mind there. Not entirely sure. I think he

:13:02.:13:11.

heard a knock-macro chord. That is what he suggested to the umpire, but

:13:12.:13:27.

the umpire did not hear it. -- net cord.

:13:28.:13:36.

And the added pressure of trying to serve this set out, but the serve is

:13:37.:13:43.

being tested more in this game than it has been in the opening set so

:13:44.:13:47.

far. The first time he has been taken to deuce.

:13:48.:14:04.

He has established a couple of breaks of serve over the course of

:14:05.:14:10.

this first set and he is in danger of relinquishing one right here.

:14:11.:14:24.

The fastest of his match so far. Not of the tournament, 133 he has

:14:25.:14:42.

topped. Certainly pushing down on that.

:14:43.:15:03.

That was always tricky because it had no energy of it and just sort of

:15:04.:15:07.

fell on Sousa. How well he has played. Beating the

:15:08.:15:51.

qualifier in the first round without dropping a set. And we talked about

:15:52.:15:59.

the big upset. Dominic Thiem, the string, in the second round. With

:16:00.:16:06.

three tie-breaks. -- the Austrian. He is used to winning big batches on

:16:07.:16:11.

this court and starting with confidence. I am sure it was him I

:16:12.:16:16.

commentated. He played the Boys' Singles doubles final on this very

:16:17.:16:22.

court, years ago, probably 2011. He became the Australian Open Boys'

:16:23.:16:29.

Singles and doubles champion. He is playing very efficiently and a real

:16:30.:16:34.

handful. Landing a lot of first serves, bullying serves. Not giving

:16:35.:16:41.

Sousa much of a look in. Getting inside the court and rushing his

:16:42.:16:42.

opponent effectively. It is unappreciative Court One

:16:43.:17:04.

crowd. -- it is an appreciative Court One crowd. For Joao Sousa, it

:17:05.:17:14.

is all about his foot speed, his ground shots. The chap under the cap

:17:15.:17:31.

is his coach. Here is his man, having will include the first set,

:17:32.:17:37.

Joao Sousa. -- having relinquished the first set.

:17:38.:17:47.

Two drop shots that were not exactly out of the top drawer, it's fair to

:17:48.:17:53.

say. But it goes the Czech Republic's way in the end.

:17:54.:18:11.

He has got this ability, Jiri Vesely, much to this man's

:18:12.:18:17.

frustration, of stepping up the court and just leaning through the

:18:18.:18:22.

ball. It has got a lot of power on it.

:18:23.:19:30.

Well, the trend continues. There was some concerted chuntering in

:19:31.:19:42.

Portuguese from Sousa back towards his coaches and friends and family

:19:43.:19:46.

at the end of that. He is in a right old pickle at the moment. That is

:19:47.:19:58.

Vesely's coach on the right-hand side. He will be

:19:59.:20:09.

absolutely thrilled with the way this contest started.

:20:10.:20:31.

And he hasn't really found his rhythm at all. The points are not

:20:32.:20:37.

being paid -- played the way he would like them. Jiri Vesely has

:20:38.:20:41.

taken a stranglehold of this match early. And of course, it is a big

:20:42.:20:47.

court. There is nowhere to hide when you are not hitting the ball nicely.

:20:48.:20:51.

I bet he feels really up against it now. Misery compounded by another

:20:52.:20:56.

rocket from Vesely. Just when you thought there was a

:20:57.:21:36.

name for the Portuguese player. Look at the pass from Vesely. He is on

:21:37.:21:37.

fire right now. Another ace, number five. We said

:21:38.:22:00.

this would be a day of history for one of these two. Neither has

:22:01.:22:03.

reached the fourth grant Grand Slam previously. Both equalling their

:22:04.:22:09.

best runs at one of the best tournaments that tennis can offer.

:22:10.:22:16.

Looking very much at the moment as if it will be Vesely creating some

:22:17.:22:17.

history. Kind of feels like a bit of sympathy

:22:18.:22:54.

applause for the 31 seed. The crowd are waiting for him to activate.

:22:55.:24:01.

Sousa had never won a macho before this week. He broke that duck. He

:24:02.:24:16.

was too much for the qualifier in round two, so here he is in the

:24:17.:24:19.

third round of a slum again. He has been in the third round of the

:24:20.:24:23.

Australian Open and US Open. He lost to Andy Murray 2015 and at the start

:24:24.:24:32.

of this year. He's going to have to come from behind today, but he has

:24:33.:24:36.

the opportunity to become the first Portuguese tennis player into the

:24:37.:24:40.

fourth round of the Grand Slam. That is quite something. A real magnitude

:24:41.:24:44.

to the sound of that. He had a rough drawer, losing to Andy Murray in the

:24:45.:24:55.

Australian Open of 2015 and 2016. Then he had a rough drawer against

:24:56.:24:59.

Novak Djokovic. There are always a lot of good players around at the

:25:00.:25:02.

business end of the slam. But as you say, history in the making possibly

:25:03.:25:06.

for this man, already the best player in Portugal. Jiri Vesely,

:25:07.:25:17.

having won the first set, breaking serve at the start of the second.

:25:18.:26:40.

Sousa might feel he is not getting a great deal of the fortune right now.

:26:41.:27:40.

That rescue from Vesely was right on the line.

:27:41.:28:25.

Well, he had time to run around that forehand, Sousa come about as soon

:28:26.:28:32.

as he did, he left the court wide open. It is a pattern of play for

:28:33.:28:37.

him. He runs on a clay court and hard court with great success. But

:28:38.:28:42.

Vesely says, not today, power, and just dispatches it to the corner. It

:28:43.:28:48.

is almost as if Vesely has been up all night studying video footage of

:28:49.:28:53.

Joao Sousa, because he seems to be a step ahead of whatever he is

:28:54.:28:54.

bringing right now. He has got to guard against a second

:28:55.:30:31.

break against his own serve, because that would be terminal as far as

:30:32.:30:42.

this set is concerned. People's Sunday? Absolutely not. Portugal

:30:43.:30:51.

Sunday right now. They are texting and tweeting. They have better

:30:52.:30:56.

things to do than watch them and struggle against the giant from the

:30:57.:31:00.

Czech Republic. I wonder if they are one of the two who paid ?40 for a

:31:01.:31:04.

ticket when they went on sale yesterday afternoon at three

:31:05.:31:08.

o'clock. Didn't they sell out in about seven and a half seconds?

:31:09.:31:16.

Centre Court, number one court. 8000 tickets on sale and 4000 ground sale

:31:17.:31:20.

passes. But the complex isn't at capacity. They didn't have the

:31:21.:31:27.

wherewithal to provide enough security people. So we are not

:31:28.:31:32.

anywhere near capacity approaching 40,000 which you might get on a full

:31:33.:31:36.

working day. But those who were not expecting the opportunity to come

:31:37.:31:39.

here today who had another planned for Sunday afternoon get the chance

:31:40.:31:43.

to take a few snapshots for the family album. It is a real treat.

:31:44.:31:48.

What a great idea to open it up the way they did. A real indulgence for

:31:49.:31:51.

people that normally wouldn't stand much chance of winning anything

:31:52.:31:55.

through the ballot but perhaps, not being up members and that sort of

:31:56.:31:58.

thing. Lovely to see plenty of fresh faces here. And if they do venture

:31:59.:32:03.

out to outside courts, there is so much freedom to move. They can have

:32:04.:32:07.

the pick of the seats on some really good matches. Here is what macro, in

:32:08.:32:16.

a very commanding position -- Vesely.

:32:17.:32:35.

Wonderful serve and sting from the big man, who has totally been in

:32:36.:32:47.

control so far. It's a feature of this from a tactical point of view

:32:48.:32:50.

that this man is playing such commanding, bullying serve and first

:32:51.:32:54.

shot tennis but Joao Sousa just can't get a return platform to build

:32:55.:33:00.

from. He's only had one break point opportunity throughout the match.

:33:01.:33:44.

It was instructive to see Joao Sousa not even looking. He's just not

:33:45.:33:51.

reading this at the moment. Not long after he did it for the

:33:52.:34:35.

last time, once again, Joao Sousa fights to stay in the second set.

:34:36.:35:40.

Well, it's a lot a friend to carry around the court, six foot six, but

:35:41.:35:46.

he did well to get up to this forehand -- a lot of friend to carry

:35:47.:35:48.

around the court. Wonderful point construction here,

:35:49.:36:07.

well engineered. Look at how he gets the ball up and down so quickly,

:36:08.:36:09.

loaded with top-spin. Jiri Vesely is the Czech number two

:36:10.:36:42.

right now behind his hero, Tomas Berdych, who is playing against

:36:43.:36:47.

Zverev. The winner of this one will play the winner of that one in the

:36:48.:36:52.

fourth round tomorrow. That is the big prize today. That plus ?132,000,

:36:53.:36:59.

which is what you get for reaching the second week here. The loser

:37:00.:37:05.

today is already guaranteed to pick up ?80,000. Should one of them dream

:37:06.:37:08.

of going all the way and being champion on Centre Court a week

:37:09.:37:15.

today, then you get ?2 million. So it is a profitable couple of weeks.

:37:16.:37:21.

Helps to pay the coach, on the right-hand side. He looks after

:37:22.:37:31.

Vesely's fitness, on the left. There is not a great deal to worry about

:37:32.:37:36.

at the moment. He is in total control of this third round contest

:37:37.:37:37.

right now. With this kind of performance,

:37:38.:38:00.

everyone was concerned about how we he would back up that win. But at

:38:01.:38:04.

the moment, he really is playing some wonderful tennis. And with

:38:05.:38:18.

that, he is one of those men that gets labelled as one of the next

:38:19.:38:23.

generation players, along with Dominic Thiem and Alexander Zverev,

:38:24.:38:24.

one of the new guard. Only been playing for 52 minutes,

:38:25.:39:02.

and here is Jiri Vesely, with three points for a 2-0 lead.

:39:03.:40:03.

If the seeded Sousa is to fight back into this, he is going to have to do

:40:04.:40:10.

it the long way, because Jiri Vesely has just taken the first two sets.

:40:11.:40:16.

Labour well, it is very one sided in this. Jiri Vesely very much in

:40:17.:40:20.

control. We are going to leave this match on Court Number One. If you

:40:21.:40:24.

want to continue watching, it is on the red button. Well going to take

:40:25.:40:29.

you to a doubles match on court 12, featuring the British women, Naomi

:40:30.:40:32.

Broady and Heather Watson against Alexandra Panova and Shelby Rogers.

:40:33.:40:39.

They won the first set 7-6. Brody and Watson.

:40:40.:40:54.

The line judge just running to her position to call the serve. She had

:40:55.:41:25.

forgotten to switch it during the match.

:41:26.:42:01.

Diego on the right, hidden behind the umpire Heather Watson 's coach.

:42:02.:42:18.

Good move, Watson. There is such trust between them. Diego Veronelli

:42:19.:42:36.

is a family man. He has got kids. He has committed as much as he can,

:42:37.:42:40.

persuaded to come back into Heather's corner. She missed him

:42:41.:42:47.

terribly. Could be talking about Ivan Lendl. Yes!

:42:48.:43:01.

Talking about the coaches, so many have commitments outside the tour,

:43:02.:43:09.

so it is a huge thing for them to commit 20, 25 weeks to be with

:43:10.:43:13.

someone on the road when they all have families and other interests.

:43:14.:43:21.

Two years in a row at Wimbledon here. He has had some emotional work

:43:22.:43:25.

to deal with as well. Serena last year. Annika Beck this. Aluko back

:43:26.:43:33.

was of course beaten by Serena today, as we mentioned earlier --

:43:34.:43:39.

Annika Beck was of course beaten. The British pair are keeping their

:43:40.:43:40.

nose ahead. This is just their 12th match

:43:41.:44:30.

together. The opposition have hardly played with each other as well. They

:44:31.:44:36.

first played in Jersey, where of course, Heather Watson was born and

:44:37.:44:39.

bred. That was seven years ago. This is a must win point. For

:44:40.:44:53.

Rogers. Oh, too much. Heather is going to

:44:54.:45:42.

challenge this. That is a long way out. Just a little bit too much.

:45:43.:45:47.

Greylock from Naomi Broady, but we were both urging her to go forwards

:45:48.:45:50.

-- great lob. It didn't work. You can reach out and touch the

:45:51.:46:04.

tension out there right now. That again is the transition shot,

:46:05.:46:23.

it was a shock to go to the net with. It was not looking for the

:46:24.:46:29.

outright winner because she did not fully commit. It should have been a

:46:30.:46:33.

slice approach, reasonably firmly. Give yourself time to set at the

:46:34.:46:37.

net. She hit Heather. That is not the

:46:38.:47:06.

ideal thing to do unless you want to really upset your partner.

:47:07.:47:16.

Three points in a row. If they hold these, we are into a third set.

:47:17.:47:59.

That was tense, that point, wasn't it? That was really tense. A couple

:48:00.:48:09.

of moments where she did not move her feet. That one and this next

:48:10.:48:11.

volley was well played. That is the right idea. Set point.

:48:12.:48:33.

Panova and Rogers. The battle of the crosscourt

:48:34.:50:42.

forehand won by Heather Watson. From set point to match point.

:50:43.:51:12.

It has been corrected. Ever made the blade. They are challenging, anyway.

:51:13.:51:24.

-- Heather Watson made the play. It is all happening. First serve again.

:51:25.:51:28.

Still match point. What a chance, what a chance. She

:51:29.:51:57.

read it. Just did not move forward. It was not an easy volley, but it

:51:58.:52:02.

was a volley she should have made. Look how she moved to the right. She

:52:03.:52:04.

did not come towards the ball. She really drove through the ball

:52:05.:52:38.

well. Indecision with the Brits, but it is another set point. Panova to

:52:39.:52:39.

return. That is a courageous shot from Naomi

:52:40.:53:08.

Broady. She does not like to hit that one. The slice approach. That

:53:09.:53:14.

is maybe the second she has hit in the whole match. She did not play

:53:15.:53:19.

the shot she wanted to play, she played the shot she knew she had to

:53:20.:53:20.

play. The sign of a good player at this

:53:21.:53:33.

stage of the match. Brilliant. It sets up a second match point.

:53:34.:53:39.

Even Judy is looking a little nervous.

:53:40.:54:31.

Broady did not trust herself to go for it and Panova did. Once again,

:54:32.:54:38.

that corner of the court that Heather Watson is hitting into, she

:54:39.:54:44.

is hitting into a hurricane from the right-hand corner. Just not enough

:54:45.:54:53.

to get it away. Two set points for this team. Two match point for the

:54:54.:54:55.

Brits. Oh, my goodness me. We have seen

:54:56.:55:33.

Broady play a lot of good lock-macros but that was not one of

:55:34.:55:37.

them. It was difficult. It was right in front of Rogers. A big discussion

:55:38.:55:41.

here. I think this is Watson to serve. And

:55:42.:55:59.

Broady is serving. It is Watson. She had the slide out wide. It is

:56:00.:56:03.

definitely Watson to serve. It is worth a try! The umpire was on the

:56:04.:56:13.

case. And so were we. Quite right. Two hours, the match.

:56:14.:56:20.

Brilliant! What a great return that was of a first serve. The serve was

:56:21.:56:41.

great. The return was better! A little bit fortunate, but Panova

:56:42.:56:47.

will take it. That will do. Fourth time lucky.

:56:48.:57:38.

Just their 12th match together as a team. They get a standing ovation.

:57:39.:57:46.

SUE BARKER: What a thrilling match. Two tie-break sets. So entertaining

:57:47.:57:54.

and wonderful for the fans who stayed loyal to that match. Judy

:57:55.:57:59.

Murray is there, she will be delighted. She has probably stayed

:58:00.:58:06.

on court 12 because her eldest son Jamie Murray is there. With his

:58:07.:58:13.

partner they are taking on the Argentine pair. Early stages of this

:58:14.:58:15.

match. We can join our commentary team for

:58:16.:58:21.

this one. Jamie Murray on court in the

:58:22.:58:37.

sunshine with his partner Bruno Soares.

:58:38.:58:52.

On paper they are firm favourites to win. Number three seeds. Jamie

:58:53.:59:04.

Murray, number three in the world, and Bruno Soares number nine. The

:59:05.:59:09.

Argentine is better known as singles players but singles rankings count

:59:10.:59:14.

for more than doubles rankings in the entry system for this event. The

:59:15.:59:27.

same as on the ATP Tour. These two like a good conversation. Delbonis

:59:28.:59:28.

at the net. Schwartzman serving. Struggling with that first serve.

:59:29.:59:46.

And the second. Three break points early in this. It

:59:47.:59:52.

is a best-of-3 contest. Because of the weather this week they have

:59:53.:59:57.

shortened it from best-of-5 to best-of-3.

:59:58.:00:08.

That was loose from Soares. 82 mph second serve from Schwartzman. A

:00:09.:00:24.

little bit of leeway. Two more break points. You have to make him play

:00:25.:00:26.

this one, though. In doubles, of course, the areas you

:00:27.:00:52.

have to hit into our smaller. You have got used to the tramlines, of

:00:53.:00:53.

course. That is brilliant. Beautifully

:00:54.:01:04.

anticipated. He waited and waited and then he pounced. Judy has seen

:01:05.:01:16.

Jamie Murray make that move time and again. He is one of the best players

:01:17.:01:21.

in the world at judging the timing so perfectly to make that move. To

:01:22.:01:26.

poach at the net. A nice early break.

:01:27.:01:37.

It is easy when you know how. When you have the wind in your sails.

:01:38.:02:17.

A big collective groan from this court 12 crowd.

:02:18.:02:47.

Oh, that is a fabulous touch. He may not have meant it. Bruno Soares

:02:48.:02:55.

holding up his hands an apology, but take nothing away from the quick

:02:56.:03:02.

hands of the Brazilian. It was a great volley from Murray before

:03:03.:03:11.

that. The ball was hammered at Soares. You say that is just good

:03:12.:03:12.

hands. So quick. It is good. Just had enough tip on

:03:13.:03:38.

it. -- dip. You might have heard Jamie Murray complementing

:03:39.:03:43.

Schwartzman on that. Sometimes you have to say, yes, too good.

:03:44.:04:13.

Instinct, isn't it, at the net? And hour upon hour of practice.

:04:14.:04:25.

Soares one of the most consistent doubles performers on the tour.

:04:26.:04:38.

Soares has got 22 doubles titles to his name. And adding water that

:04:39.:05:04.

number is a pretty safe bet if these two stay together. Jamie Murray, 15

:05:05.:05:10.

doubles titles. Crucially, as we have mentioned, the first Grand Slam

:05:11.:05:15.

title in the Men's Doubles in the Australian Open to kick-start their

:05:16.:05:25.

year and their partnership. Jamie spent a number of years with John

:05:26.:05:34.

Peers. Bruno Soares with Peya, of Austria. They started early and --

:05:35.:05:47.

started brilliantly in Melbourne. Jamie Murray world number one in

:05:48.:05:51.

April. Soares chasing him down. Number three seeds at Embleton.

:05:52.:05:57.

Beautiful to see court 12 fills to the rafters. On People's Sunday at

:05:58.:06:09.

Wimbledon. It is important for Delbonis to hold serve and keep his

:06:10.:06:21.

side in the sector. I wonder how he got this little quirk on the server.

:06:22.:06:23.

Nothing wrong with it. -- serve. Just when you think he has stopped

:06:24.:06:47.

for some reason, maybe the sun and wind, he keeps going.

:06:48.:07:11.

That was well left from Delbonis. It is tough to see them sometimes, to

:07:12.:07:17.

judge how far the ball will travel when you are close to the baseline

:07:18.:07:25.

yourself. He is struggling to really put the ball away. Schwartzman.

:07:26.:07:46.

The highest part of the net. Just a little bit harder for those kinds of

:07:47.:07:55.

shots. It is a great forehand from Delbonis. Look at that. Huge amount

:07:56.:08:01.

of top-spin to make sure the ball gets down onto the shoelaces of

:08:02.:08:05.

Murray. This was a late call. Was it the

:08:06.:08:35.

right one? No. You can hear the communication

:08:36.:09:27.

between these two. They work off each other exquisitely.

:09:28.:09:59.

Good serving. Very strong from Delbonis. Now the difficult part.

:10:00.:10:14.

Breaking the serve of either Soares or Murray.

:10:15.:10:39.

Even when they look as if they are struggling, they managed to pull it

:10:40.:10:44.

back almost immediately. Somebody is not happy with what they

:10:45.:11:28.

are seeing, in the crowd! It has actually been a great family day.

:11:29.:11:34.

People's Sunday, it has been dubbed. The fourth time we have had play on

:11:35.:11:38.

the middle Sunday in the history of Wimbledon.

:11:39.:11:53.

She was here for Heather Watson and Naomi Broady earlier, for their

:11:54.:12:10.

Ladies' Doubles match. I makes amends.

:12:11.:12:15.

-- he makes amends. They are cruising. 5-2 they lead, 25 minutes

:12:16.:12:19.

gone. Plain sailing so far for these two,

:12:20.:12:32.

as you would expect. On paper, they should be comfortable winners

:12:33.:12:36.

against a pair who just do not have the doubles pedigree. And the best

:12:37.:12:42.

doubles pairs in the world trained so hard and they work on different

:12:43.:12:55.

formations, different tactics. They spend hours having balls pumped at

:12:56.:12:58.

them so they can improve their reaction at the net. Different

:12:59.:13:09.

serves types of return. Singles players like Delbonis and

:13:10.:13:12.

Schwartzman do not have that time to devote that attention to detail.

:13:13.:13:16.

Court 12 at the bottom of the picture with Court Number Two at the

:13:17.:13:26.

right. Three on the left-hand side. Bathed in sunshine. We got there in

:13:27.:13:28.

the end. Long may it continue. How would Jamie Murray like to win

:13:29.:13:44.

the Men's Doubles here at Wimbledon. He is a Mixed Doubles Wimbledon

:13:45.:14:04.

champion, back in 2007. Was it that long ago? He was 21 years of age

:14:05.:14:18.

when he won that with Jankovic. His hair was longer if I remember right.

:14:19.:14:26.

He still is good, fit as a fiddle. And improving all the time, as well.

:14:27.:14:41.

The first game to love. That was a better serve from Schwartzman. There

:14:42.:15:06.

is dad. Looking relatively happy. As should the whole of Team Murray.

:15:07.:15:14.

Looking for his son to close this first set. Very proud parents.

:15:15.:15:27.

Willie and Judy. Jamie Murray has always conducted himself well. He is

:15:28.:15:31.

a positive ambassador for British tennis.

:15:32.:15:39.

You could hear the snap in that smash from Bruno Soares. They don't

:15:40.:16:09.

mess around when they have the chance to put the ball away. Ball,

:16:10.:16:16.

please, says the umpire. In your own time! A throw from behind the fence.

:16:17.:16:24.

Decent catch from the ball boy too. Wicked top-spin on that second serve

:16:25.:16:52.

from Murray. The ball reared up to the side of Delbonis.

:16:53.:17:24.

If you want to put pressure on players, stick it right down by

:17:25.:17:34.

their bootlaces. It is extremely difficult to bring the ball back up.

:17:35.:17:38.

If you do get the ball back on the other side of the court, it have to

:17:39.:17:42.

go up to have a much better chance of the next shot being easier.

:17:43.:17:59.

They sailed through the first set in just over half an hour.

:18:00.:18:13.

Pretty straightforward for the number three seeds. Judy will be

:18:14.:18:24.

happy enough with Jamie's performance, as Federico Delbonis

:18:25.:18:27.

decides to take a comfort break, gather his thoughts. His partner,

:18:28.:18:33.

Diego Schwartzman, has stayed put. One thing I love about bubbles at

:18:34.:18:39.

Wimbledon is that it is a huge opportunity for youngsters and

:18:40.:18:44.

everybody to see what makes fantastic double skills, soft hand

:18:45.:18:50.

skills at the net. I remember watching a volleying drill that

:18:51.:18:55.

Jamie was doing. He gave three tips to be a brilliant volley at the net.

:18:56.:19:02.

He said one was, less is more. Forget the ugly backswing, keep it

:19:03.:19:07.

short and sharp. Racket high was number two, don't let it drop. And

:19:08.:19:15.

three was one of the most infamous lines you will hear anyone tell you

:19:16.:19:23.

in all sports. Watch the ball. Yeah, that is where we start. It's the

:19:24.:19:31.

same at every level. It is a glorious scene at the top of your

:19:32.:19:38.

picture as you move across from Centre Court. You may see a couple

:19:39.:19:43.

of golf holes. That is Wimbledon Park golf course. Wimbledon Park

:19:44.:19:50.

itself is a larger area. It has a public park and a lovely boating

:19:51.:20:00.

lake. Caught in a bid to is in the top right. And court 12 is where we

:20:01.:20:04.

are for this Men's Doubles match, to the side of it. It has one large

:20:05.:20:14.

bank of seating. I can't see many empty seats in it at the moment.

:20:15.:20:26.

Enter stage left. If you are wondering what happens when they go

:20:27.:20:30.

to the loo, what the rules are, you can pretty much take comfort break

:20:31.:20:34.

whenever you like. It would be a bit harsh to say no! But an official has

:20:35.:20:40.

to accompany every player when they do go to the loo. It is part of the

:20:41.:20:49.

doping regulations. Nothing untoward. Obviously, you are not

:20:50.:20:52.

allowed to meet up with your coach and get any coaching. That just shot

:20:53.:20:59.

your theory down in flames! I don't think that was coaching, that was

:21:00.:21:00.

ribbing. It's all right, no one saw. Federico

:21:01.:21:23.

Delbonis will get us under way in this second set. There to say they

:21:24.:21:29.

have got work to do. -- it is fair to say they have work to do.

:21:30.:22:56.

Well played from Schwartzman at the net. Good, solid forehand volley,

:22:57.:23:02.

keeping it deep, not giving Jamie Murray much opportunity to hit it

:23:03.:23:06.

past him and then crucially, continue his movement across the net

:23:07.:23:10.

on the forehand side to poach and put it away nicely.

:23:11.:23:35.

Good, clean game to start this second set. Delbonis has served

:23:36.:23:43.

well, backed up well by Schwartzman at the net. He does have an

:23:44.:23:54.

extraordinary action, doesn't he? Yeah, I am sure there are a fair few

:23:55.:23:58.

people watching this that have seen their fair share of old styles

:23:59.:24:03.

actions down the park at their local club. The key is, whatever works for

:24:04.:24:08.

you. If you look at Jamie's served here,

:24:09.:24:23.

he takes a step forward with his right leg, then brings his left foot

:24:24.:24:30.

to join it. Everyone has got a slightly different way of going

:24:31.:24:37.

about it. But the same as any other tennis shop in the game, it's what

:24:38.:24:43.

happens before contact, on contact and just after. If you get that bit

:24:44.:24:48.

right, then you can vary the technique around it.

:24:49.:25:07.

Mixing it up nicely on the serve, Jamie Murray.

:25:08.:26:41.

Jamie Murray you waited so beautifully there. Sometimes, when

:26:42.:26:47.

you have too much time, it brings a mistake. But he was unbelievably

:26:48.:26:52.

patient in his decision-making. Everything is out in front of him.

:26:53.:27:02.

He takes that volley, whether it is on the forehand or backhand side,

:27:03.:27:05.

well out in front of him with a firm wrist.

:27:06.:27:15.

You can do it with one racket, but if you fancy two... It's much better

:27:16.:27:25.

if you both go for it than neither of you. No damage done. In fact, the

:27:26.:27:32.

opposite. He's got it. A puff of white chalk

:27:33.:27:51.

off the line. Jamie Murray, challenging this call

:27:52.:28:25.

on the baseline. It does look funny, how they talk

:28:26.:29:17.

into the balls, doesn't it? Just in case somebody can lip read.

:29:18.:29:32.

Just the one point dropped. SUE BARKER: and we will rejoin this

:29:33.:29:47.

match in a moment. Let's round up the news of the day. The remaining

:29:48.:29:54.

two Men's Singles matches are completed. Jiri Vesely of the Czech

:29:55.:29:59.

Republic has defeated Joao Sousa of Portugal. He has yet to drop a set

:30:00.:30:06.

at these championships. So Jiri Vesely is one of the top juniors a

:30:07.:30:12.

few years ago and is going well at these championships. So he goes

:30:13.:30:21.

through, and there he will face fellow Czech Tomas Berdych, because

:30:22.:30:26.

he was on Centre Court, defeating the 19-year-old Alexander Zverev. We

:30:27.:30:30.

will certainly hear a lot more from that young man, but for the moment,

:30:31.:30:36.

Tomas Berdych goes through in four sets. Runner-up in 2010 and now

:30:37.:30:40.

through to the fourth round again. What a treat they have had on Centre

:30:41.:30:45.

Court today. So, back we go to Court One.

:30:46.:30:55.

Bruno Soares serving, Jamie Murray with the put away. It is a very

:30:56.:31:08.

effective serve, especially that first serve when it goes in. He is

:31:09.:31:15.

not the tallest of players, standing at 511, -- at five foot 11. And as

:31:16.:31:25.

we saw there, if it is skidding through and staying low, he

:31:26.:31:32.

generally -- the return has to play the ball upwards more. And that

:31:33.:31:37.

plays into the hands of the pair who are showing the net. -- rushing the

:31:38.:31:48.

net. We are seeing through these games in the second set. UMPIRE:

:31:49.:31:57.

give me one ball boy, please. Both the Argentinians had tough

:31:58.:32:16.

first-round defeats in the singles. Delbonis, the toll of the two, lost

:32:17.:32:22.

in five sets to Fabio Fognini -- the taller of the two. It was also a

:32:23.:32:26.

five set defeat for Diego Schwartzman.

:32:27.:32:39.

Good anticipation once again. You could see his movement before the

:32:40.:32:46.

ball was even hit. You have got to be brave to do this, and really back

:32:47.:32:50.

your speed and skills. It is just the frustration, isn't

:32:51.:33:26.

it? Soares looks so confident. He is like a brick wall. Everything is

:33:27.:33:36.

coming back. A half chance here for Murray and Soares.

:33:37.:33:56.

One for the wicketkeeper, that one. Delbonis has a very good delivery.

:33:57.:34:17.

Just too good. That is a good comeback. Two big first serves, and

:34:18.:34:26.

that is what you want from your net player. When you do get a good serve

:34:27.:34:32.

in, you want your net player to punish any week return. That is

:34:33.:34:36.

exactly what Schwartzman did. He was all over the net. Another formation,

:34:37.:34:49.

something different. This is good. But Murray was equal to it. He

:34:50.:34:53.

wasn't going to be fooled, he knew exactly where he wanted to go on

:34:54.:35:03.

this forehand. They brokered a similar time in the first set. That

:35:04.:35:09.

shot was all about how he steered it. Just breaking the 22nd rule

:35:10.:35:20.

there, Federico Delbonis. 20 seconds between points. They want this match

:35:21.:35:34.

won, and they are on top. They have the break in this second set. Soares

:35:35.:35:45.

was sitting down in double quick time after that flashing backhand

:35:46.:35:53.

down the line. Just beautiful timing from the Brazilian. Wasn't as wide

:35:54.:36:01.

as Delbonis had hoped. But straight out of the middle. You don't have to

:36:02.:36:05.

have a big swing. If you can use the pace of the server, find the sweet

:36:06.:36:11.

spot, they can be every bit as powerful. He is waiting for Jamie to

:36:12.:36:21.

join him to high-5. They are quick out of their seats. Time hasn't been

:36:22.:36:25.

called by the umpire. They want to get on with this. In the Nick

:36:26.:36:32.

Kyrgios and Dustin Brown match earlier, they gave a whole new

:36:33.:36:38.

meaning to speed. I think we had one service game of Nick Kyrgios' that

:36:39.:36:44.

lasted 39 seconds. More talking into balls. But now Soares knows where

:36:45.:36:56.

their service going. -- where there is serve is going.

:36:57.:37:02.

Beautiful rhythm on that Murray serve. Judy found out a few things

:37:03.:37:12.

about with a couple of years ago on the dance floor. -- a few things

:37:13.:37:24.

about rhythm. I believe she came ninth on Strictly Come Dancing.

:37:25.:37:33.

There was a bloke called Dan. Ever heard of him? There are loads of

:37:34.:37:44.

Dans. A bit of luck. What he did well was a firm on that volley. If

:37:45.:37:53.

he had been week with his wrist, this would not have had enough

:37:54.:38:06.

momentum to go over. A rare mistake. You can't be perfect all the time.

:38:07.:38:15.

He will not need to be told. What do you think he is saying? Not as big a

:38:16.:38:18.

backswing next time, Bruno? They consolidate the break. I

:38:19.:38:49.

would be interested to see what formations these two Tech now on the

:38:50.:38:52.

Schwartzman serve, as Delbonis makes his way to the net. Looks as though

:38:53.:38:58.

they are going to keep its traditional for the first point.

:38:59.:39:36.

I like this from these two. They are giving a different look to the

:39:37.:39:52.

returners, different formation every time what are they going to offer up

:39:53.:39:59.

this time? Schwartzman goes a little bit wider. Maybe a greater angle.

:40:00.:40:48.

SUE BARKER: so, we are having to leave here on BBC Two. If you want

:40:49.:41:04.

to continue watching, it is on the red button. Before we go, we will

:41:05.:41:09.

round up the big stories of the day am starting on Centre Court with the

:41:10.:41:12.

world number one, Serena Williams. She was in impressive form. 6-3, 6-0

:41:13.:41:20.

against Annika Beck. She was taken for precepts in her last round, but

:41:21.:41:25.

happy with her performance. Like all great champions, they get better as

:41:26.:41:29.

the tournament progresses. She will have a busy day tomorrow, because

:41:30.:41:33.

she will be back to face Svetlana Kuznetsova. Such an entertaining

match on number one court. Nick Kyrgios, the 15th seed, putting out

:41:44.:41:51.

the big server Feliciano Lopez Lopez. Kyrgios is a controversial

:41:52.:41:56.

figure, but always watchable. And he is one of those that John McEnroe

:41:57.:42:00.

tipped to maybe win this championship one day. He put out

:42:01.:42:03.

Lopez today and may have booked himself ablaze on Centre Court

:42:04.:42:06.

because in the next round, he takes on Andy Murray. That is tomorrow,

:42:07.:42:15.

Kyrgios and Murray. The big story of the day is Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. The

:42:16.:42:19.

number 12 seed, an absolute marathon on Court Number Two against John

:42:20.:42:25.

Isner. He came through 19-17, a match that took four hours and 25

:42:26.:42:30.

minutes. He goes to the top of the French list of most Grand Slam wins

:42:31.:42:41.

with 103. There are only 4000 ground passes, and those who were courtside

:42:42.:42:47.

thoroughly enjoyed him. One of the sport's great athletes and

:42:48.:42:49.

entertainers. So Jo-Wilfried Tsonga if through, and he will face Richard

:42:50.:42:55.

Gasquet tomorrow, and all French encounter in the fourth round. That

:42:56.:42:58.

is it. We have to say goodbye on BBC Two. Tomorrow we have a very busy

:42:59.:43:03.

Monday. All fourth-round matches will be in action. It is always my

:43:04.:43:08.

favourite day of the championship. I hope the 22,000 people who came here

:43:09.:43:12.

with their tickets online had a special day. We will leave you with

:43:13.:43:15.

the story of People's Sunday. Bye-bye.

:43:16.:43:22.

Sunday, Sunday. People's Sunday! A very special day

:43:23.:43:34.

here at Wimbledon. It has only happened four times. Centre Court on

:43:35.:43:47.

people's Sunday. Do you think we should get the wave going?

:43:48.:43:53.

# Please give me a Sunday kind of love. Come on!
