This time tomorrow we will be giving up for the closing ceremony and the

:01:06.:02:16.

Winter Olympics will nearly be over. Britain's medal haul of four medals

:02:17.:02:22.

is the best in 90 years and in 1924, only three teams contested

:02:23.:02:27.

curling so this is the best ever. There is a chance of one more in the

:02:28.:02:32.

four-man bobsleigh. The challenge starts tonight. And we have it all,

:02:33.:02:39.

glory, disappointment, tears of joy, tears of frustration and a fair bit

:02:40.:02:44.

of controversy. It has been a Winter Games that has entertained,

:02:45.:02:48.

enthralled and excited and beer here at the Medal Plaza because behind

:02:49.:02:52.

me, we will see for the very first time, to British medals in

:02:53.:02:57.

consecutive ceremonies. The Russians are so debating because of more

:02:58.:03:01.

medals today but in Britain, silver for the curling, bronze for the

:03:02.:03:05.

funeral curling. We will see those medals later on. The men coming up

:03:06.:03:10.

just after 5pm. And not long after that, the women will receive their

:03:11.:03:16.

bronze medal. Lots to tell you about and some headlines to catch up on.

:03:17.:03:20.

This penultimate day had the Russians celebrating, gathered

:03:21.:03:25.

around watching our screens as they took another gold medal. They are

:03:26.:03:30.

moving up the table all the time. And it came in the men's biathlon.

:03:31.:03:44.

The relay. . Bjoerndalen could only fission in -- finish in fourth. The

:03:45.:03:52.

30 kilometre mass start, Marat Juergen, it was her sixth Olympic

:03:53.:03:59.

gold. Both of those titles equal the record for any female athlete. Vic

:04:00.:04:08.

Wild becomes the first snowboarder to win can set you live medals in

:04:09.:04:22.

games. We will catch up on the last of the men's Alpine events, the

:04:23.:04:26.

slalom, but I will shortly begin Steve Cram and Jackie Lockhart over,

:04:27.:04:30.

who have sat through every Rajesh curling game. They have done so with

:04:31.:04:35.

much joy because both of those teams, but we have a chance to look

:04:36.:04:39.

back at it, what about their performance? They were great. We

:04:40.:04:47.

came here hoping they would do well, particularly the women, there were

:04:48.:04:52.

high hopes with medals, less for the men and Jackie would agree that at

:04:53.:04:56.

times, the men were exceptional, particularly in the tie-break. OK,

:04:57.:05:04.

the final was not the best and it was a coming-of-age for Eve

:05:05.:05:08.

Muirhead, back in Vancouver, the pressure coming into this, still 23,

:05:09.:05:14.

she dealt with that very well. That is a very young team full of talent.

:05:15.:05:20.

In turns of the immediate future, the women's team are very young, the

:05:21.:05:25.

men are different because David Murdoch is older, 35, not that old,

:05:26.:05:30.

but is he heading towards retirement? Or does he have one

:05:31.:05:36.

more? We spoke this morning at the office and he is delighted and I am

:05:37.:05:42.

not sure what he is thinking. Another four years of training and

:05:43.:05:45.

commitment? He is not long married, two years ago, and I am convinced

:05:46.:05:51.

that he might hang up his boots but you never do know. He has a very

:05:52.:05:55.

young team below him. If you want to continue, you can, you can be the

:05:56.:06:01.

experience and the youngsters will make your life easier. There is a

:06:02.:06:05.

big opportunity for him to continue that I am not sure. He was very

:06:06.:06:10.

emotional in his interview, he was tearful? There was a lot going

:06:11.:06:16.

through his mind and I all this feel bad when you see someone that

:06:17.:06:21.

emotional. For him, he is thinking about next, the journey, and Jackie

:06:22.:06:27.

would know more about this, the issues around that team. Tom

:06:28.:06:32.

Brewster block those youngsters together and they played very well

:06:33.:06:37.

for a couple of years. There have been people in curling for him that

:06:38.:06:40.

they had not seem like the right move. There was a lot of

:06:41.:06:44.

apprehensive emotion as well. They settled down. He will go home, all

:06:45.:06:50.

of them, and they will definitely be back next year. Maybe with Tom? If

:06:51.:06:56.

David does decide that he has had enough, there is that replacement,

:06:57.:07:02.

the man who has captained them and knows them well? Lots of

:07:03.:07:07.

opportunities. And there are a lot of curlers back home who are equally

:07:08.:07:14.

as good. There will be a lot to play for when they get back home for the

:07:15.:07:22.

championships next year. We are in a very good position to enjoy that

:07:23.:07:29.

medal ceremony. We have a chance to catch up with the earlier action in

:07:30.:07:32.

the men's slalom. The final Alpine event. We will join the second run

:07:33.:07:37.

live but first of all, it's look at the first. -- let us look.

:07:38.:07:47.

They have had a detailed course inspection. There is some guesswork

:07:48.:07:58.

involved. As they come out at race pace for the first time. Lots of

:07:59.:08:06.

rhythm changes. Lots of verticals. To get that number of gates into the

:08:07.:08:14.

course. The first two ski here today. That looks like a very neat

:08:15.:08:26.

start. From Mario Matt. His brother was knocked out in the quarterfinal

:08:27.:08:30.

stage. He flies onto that final section, he gets some sideways,

:08:31.:08:40.

recovers well. Has he done enough? Fabulous first run. The world

:08:41.:08:51.

champion. Marcel Hirscher. If it stays like this, he will have to

:08:52.:08:56.

come from behind and charge in the second run. He is in fourth place.

:08:57.:09:04.

This is confident skiing from Ted Ligety. Not bad. If he can finish,

:09:05.:09:11.

he will not be far away from Mario Matt. Fifth place. That is great.

:09:12.:09:30.

Gross is making the most of this. This has been said by one of the

:09:31.:09:37.

German coaches. No major mistakes and he is in third place. How about

:09:38.:09:40.

that from number 17? Let us discuss the chances of Dave

:09:41.:09:56.

Ryding, his big hope is to move up, may be close to 20th place.

:09:57.:10:02.

He has to have a perfect course. That was his goal for the first run,

:10:03.:10:10.

to do his best, get inside the top 30. We can look at his first run.

:10:11.:10:19.

Difficult conditions. He did an excellent jump. He set his skis at

:10:20.:10:34.

the beginning and powered through. He will be delighted at that. Mario

:10:35.:10:40.

Matt is a leader. Austria having a very good Alpine Olympics. The

:10:41.:10:48.

disappointment, Marcel Hirscher, he is way down? He will be very

:10:49.:10:56.

disappointed but he is 1.26 back and with the women, second place was in

:10:57.:11:02.

the same position. Do not ride him off, he was too hard on his edges.

:11:03.:11:09.

The other guys, like Mario Matt, he really let it run. Considering the

:11:10.:11:16.

USA don't have their big star, they are having a very good Olympics and

:11:17.:11:20.

Ted Ligety is back. He was delighted. Absolutely delighted with

:11:21.:11:26.

that and he said it was the best run he has done all season. Fantastic

:11:27.:11:31.

for him. From 16th place, when it was chopped up, and sixth places

:11:32.:11:40.

brilliant. Their big star. The 18-year-old from Colorado. In USA

:11:41.:11:47.

Today, they said she was the face of the games in four years. She has

:11:48.:11:52.

bigger marketing potential and Lindsay von. She does not show any

:11:53.:12:03.

nerves. She is very relaxed. She sleeps three runs. -- between runs.

:12:04.:12:13.

She made a mistake but did not bother her. She does that thing

:12:14.:12:20.

which is keeping her body relaxed, even in in tense situations. You see

:12:21.:12:27.

those big guns freezing up, they let that lactic acid build-up of their

:12:28.:12:32.

body. They have to move their feet so fast, if your legs are tensing

:12:33.:12:37.

up, it is impossible but she is so relaxed. With Lindsay von still

:12:38.:12:44.

recovering and the next World Championships where she lives and

:12:45.:12:49.

also Michaella, we could be at the dawn of a new start for American

:12:50.:12:55.

skiing? Especially with Bode Miller coming away from the scene, problem

:12:56.:13:00.

we will retire after this. And this young star coming through, that is

:13:01.:13:06.

brilliant. America is excited and everybody has their eyes on this

:13:07.:13:10.

woman. They could win a medal in this slalom. The second run

:13:11.:13:20.

starting. Second overall... Matt Chilton is in position to take us

:13:21.:13:25.

through this technical, talented bunch of skiers who can contest the

:13:26.:13:27.

slalom. Good afternoon. The floodlights are

:13:28.:13:39.

blazing for the final race of the Alpine programme. We are looking at

:13:40.:13:47.

this course and the pattern has been set. There is a bear trap after nine

:13:48.:13:56.

gates from the finish. It has been catching that some of those

:13:57.:14:02.

forerunners. This could be interesting. There is a gate that

:14:03.:14:10.

sends them to the right and then that hairpin, it could be

:14:11.:14:14.

interesting. The top 30 in reverse order. Dave Ryding is in good shape,

:14:15.:14:20.

he will be fought. He will have a very smooth course, they start at

:14:21.:14:27.

1160 metres above sea level with that vertical drop and 67 gates. And

:14:28.:14:36.

we are ready. The first man... Tackling the second run. And it is

:14:37.:14:48.

Bradley Spens from Canada. -- Spence. His team-mate will start

:14:49.:14:56.

next. One last look. And the time ticks over. Brad Spence is ready to

:14:57.:15:05.

go. Mario Matt will be last. Brad Spence, opening the racing. The last

:15:06.:15:11.

event of the 2014 Olympic Winter games in Sochi. He stayed on the

:15:12.:15:21.

course. I am not sure. He still made it. He has set a real stinker of a

:15:22.:15:38.

course. He said this all event of the combine. This was always good to

:15:39.:15:48.

be tough tonight. Another two flushes are set back to that. Here

:15:49.:15:56.

it comes, way over to the right. He handled that quite well, compare to

:15:57.:16:01.

how he handled the start of the course.

:16:02.:16:06.

Let's have a look on the replay of the mistake he made. He is through

:16:07.:16:12.

the red gates. I think he has made it. But on a

:16:13.:16:23.

strange way round. Let's see if Trevor Philp does

:16:24.:16:39.

better. Exactly the same time as Brad Spence. The two runs or added

:16:40.:16:45.

together. Let's see how he deals with the top section. He has lost

:16:46.:16:55.

his way. He has lost his way as well. They cannot work out what is

:16:56.:17:00.

going on here. You have got to go through the vertical gates. This is

:17:01.:17:07.

an open gate. He has got that completely wrong. This is all

:17:08.:17:14.

visible from the start. The races can all see this going on. It is

:17:15.:17:19.

just below the start. They will be scratching their heads and talking

:17:20.:17:22.

about it, all discussing how to deal with this start. Let's see if Akira

:17:23.:17:30.

Sasaki can find the best way through.

:17:31.:17:36.

He is on his way. No, he can't, either. It is impossible to ski!

:17:37.:17:48.

This is extraordinary. He has gone again. He is down. Nasty. This isn't

:17:49.:18:00.

the first time this has happened. Look down to the women's super G,

:18:01.:18:05.

the first 15 came down, made him look like beginners. Luckily the

:18:06.:18:14.

binding came off there. Dave Riding is next. Come on, Dave. -- Dave

:18:15.:18:20.

Ryding. Problems for the Japanese in the

:18:21.:18:31.

early stages. This was very nasty. Luckily the bindings are so good,

:18:32.:18:41.

that MPs will generally release. -- the toe piece.

:18:42.:18:47.

This is crazy that it is so flummoxed thing, the world's top

:18:48.:18:52.

slalom races that see if Dave Ryding can work it out.

:18:53.:18:59.

He is on his way. A chance to lead the Olympic slalom if he gets that

:19:00.:19:09.

right. He is on the back-seat. He has made Brown. -- made it Brown.

:19:10.:19:19.

He came to a grinding halt. He is not going to be the last to have

:19:20.:19:41.

problems. Only two races have been down this track. Nice and clean. A

:19:42.:19:54.

couple of tricky sections to come. He has dealt with that well. A

:19:55.:20:01.

pretty good run. Look how much time he made up. If he hadn't have had

:20:02.:20:13.

that mistake. He needed to be carving at this stage.

:20:14.:20:23.

It is a huge subject discussion at the top of the course. Everybody is

:20:24.:20:29.

passing on the word that this is a beast of a slalom course. Adam Zampa

:20:30.:20:42.

is next to go. He has just about forced the skis through that ten.

:20:43.:20:51.

That was the best of a bad job. He should be ahead at the next bit,

:20:52.:20:56.

comfortably. He has made the best of it. That was such a shame from Dave

:20:57.:21:12.

Ryding. Didn't get forward. Onto the steep now. Kostelic is responsible

:21:13.:21:30.

for this course tonight. He is in gold medal position. Dave Ryding in

:21:31.:21:36.

bronze medal position at the moment. It is the Olympic slalom. It is

:21:37.:21:50.

supposed to be tough. I don't think anybody imagined it would be quite

:21:51.:21:58.

this difficult. Adam Zampa leads, how long will that stand up? Next to

:21:59.:22:03.

go, Sebastian-Foss Solevaag from Norway. He has had a chance to look

:22:04.:22:11.

down the hill and studied the route taken by Adam Zampa. To get really

:22:12.:22:19.

easy through that section, almost slowed up. Now he is going for it,

:22:20.:22:30.

getting into his rhythm. The advantage with which he began

:22:31.:22:40.

the second run has been wiped out. A little off-balance, didn't quite get

:22:41.:22:51.

the power. In the flat section they are losing speed. Not anywhere near

:22:52.:22:58.

as inviting as it was in the first one. Adam Zampa is leading the way

:22:59.:23:13.

for Slovakia. First of the Swedish skiers, Axel Baeck, will be next to

:23:14.:23:15.

go. He has been the best three there so

:23:16.:23:25.

far. He eased up too much at the top. They are having to poll, that

:23:26.:23:30.

is what the guys are saying. They are having to push with their ski

:23:31.:23:34.

poles because they are losing the speed coming onto the flats. I am

:23:35.:23:40.

not sure if Kostelic to will be asked to set any more than a bit

:23:41.:23:45.

courses. It should be tough, but it should also be possible and

:23:46.:23:50.

entertaining. Axel Baeck for Sweden. He is going for it. Out. He

:23:51.:24:04.

struggled at red gate. Technically he didn't walk back through. You are

:24:05.:24:12.

supposed to pass between the two poles and it is set at an angle.

:24:13.:24:21.

Most setters either set open gates which are across the hill, or

:24:22.:24:24.

vertical gates which are downhill. There was nothing to stop you

:24:25.:24:31.

setting of angle vertical gates which is what we have here. There

:24:32.:24:39.

are a couple of of angle flushes. You come through this under gate,

:24:40.:24:46.

that is OK, but then there is the section straight after it. Dave

:24:47.:24:53.

Ryding still holding bronze medal position. This is where his second

:24:54.:25:03.

run came unstuck. He needs to be on the high side of that red, that is

:25:04.:25:09.

the key. All we need is another 25 skiers to go out. They will work

:25:10.:25:18.

this out. They will get course reports, they can even walk down and

:25:19.:25:24.

have a look. They could do with ripping it up and starting again.

:25:25.:25:31.

Going at that pace, he will never make it. He has made it, good job!

:25:32.:25:42.

Best we have seen at the top. He certainly has two swing to each

:25:43.:25:54.

side. His advantage has gone. The open gates are set very white, big

:25:55.:26:03.

offset from side to side. The vertical ones, very tight. They seem

:26:04.:26:11.

to be, slowly but surely, getting the hang of it. Word is spreading,

:26:12.:26:17.

the coaches are chatting. It is a true test, that is for sure. Adam

:26:18.:26:22.

Zampa is the one who has mastered it so far, he leads the way. Dave

:26:23.:26:35.

Ryding in fourth. Mario Matt will be last to go. If he wins he will be

:26:36.:26:39.

the oldest ever winner of the men's slalom. The youngest ever winner

:26:40.:26:51.

yesterday. That was a fun one! Michael Janyk is next to go. He

:26:52.:26:56.

stuttered and stumbled through the first six turns.

:26:57.:27:06.

We thought the bottom part of the course would be the problem area. We

:27:07.:27:17.

haven't quite figured on the top section. We will follow him as far

:27:18.:27:28.

as we can on the cable camera. Another under gate with two gates

:27:29.:27:33.

turning in the same direction. There are a couple of open gates here.

:27:34.:27:39.

Then into an off rhythm vertical, a couple more under gates. Then this

:27:40.:27:47.

offset flush. Goodness me. Michael Janyk is slower than Adam Zampa.

:27:48.:28:00.

Sebastian-Foss Solevaag is second. This could bring some unusual,

:28:01.:28:06.

unexpected results tonight. We haven't even talked about the course

:28:07.:28:10.

conditions. The fact that with all the races down, razor sharp edges

:28:11.:28:13.

carving the same line, there is the man responsible. Does he look happy?

:28:14.:28:19.

I am not sure. He will be watching his son next. Ivica Kostelic.

:28:20.:28:28.

Wouldn't it be ironic if he fell foul to one of his dad's traps? He

:28:29.:28:37.

is off to a positive start. Here comes the first of the traps. He has

:28:38.:28:40.

dealt with things well enough, so far. Is he still had? He is down

:28:41.:29:00.

now. His skis are washing slightly over the snow. The edges are not

:29:01.:29:11.

biting. No medals tonight for him. This will be his final Olympic

:29:12.:29:21.

appearance, at the age of 34. His last games. He is in second position

:29:22.:29:30.

at the moment. Adam Zampa office Slovakia leads. -- of Slovakia. The

:29:31.:29:43.

advantage, there is a definite track to follow, there is a ruck to

:29:44.:29:47.

forming, you can see which way will take you through the gates. He looks

:29:48.:29:54.

worried, doesn't he? He doesn't look like he is happy with the way things

:29:55.:29:55.

are working out here. like he is happy with the way things

:29:56.:30:40.

That'll be another one. like he is happy with the way things

:30:41.:30:48.

spectacle. This could be, if like he is happy with the way things

:30:49.:31:12.

do not think this is what he had planned. Adam Zampa is leading. Then

:31:13.:31:31.

do not think this is what he had particularly fast. Not as fast as

:31:32.:31:31.

Adam Zampa. particularly fast. Not as fast as

:31:32.:31:44.

section. 11 hundredths left. And the supporters

:31:45.:32:19.

section. 11 hundredths left. And the their feet. His

:32:20.:32:41.

The only Russian amongst the top 30. And he has failed to do any damage

:32:42.:32:51.

to the stop -- to the top standings. The next man, for the USA, his lead

:32:52.:32:57.

is quite significant. He just leans through there. Goodness me! By the

:32:58.:33:03.

skin of his teeth, he gets away with that! He will not be leaving, year.

:33:04.:33:17.

Three quarters of a second time. -- down. I would like to see a replay

:33:18.:33:34.

of that mistake on the bear trap. The final steep section. The fastest

:33:35.:33:42.

men after the first run, Mario Matt, Stefano Gross, Ted Ligety...

:33:43.:34:03.

This is Casper. Yes, his boot did cross in front of that blue gate. He

:34:04.:34:10.

needed to be inside. I think he might have pushed down, which would

:34:11.:34:20.

have meant he was disqualified. He has got tonnes of experience. 34

:34:21.:34:37.

years old. This is a real test. . Number 34. Lizeroux. He has missed

:34:38.:34:47.

much of the last three seasons. Almost had to jump into that short

:34:48.:34:54.

area. Lizeroux showing the way. Is he still ahead? He could be. That is

:34:55.:35:02.

a good start. The top section is breaking up. He could make up some

:35:03.:35:13.

time. That might have lost him some speed. He will have to let rip.

:35:14.:35:21.

There is not much room to accelerate. Left and right across

:35:22.:35:28.

the face of this hill. He has blown it! Lizeroux holding on but he

:35:29.:35:34.

cannot do anything. Seventh place for the Frenchman.

:35:35.:35:42.

Lizeroux was unlucky, here. Having dealt with that top section, it was

:35:43.:35:51.

the bottom stage that was biting him in the backside. He just crossed his

:35:52.:36:06.

cap 's, there. -- tips. So, Adam Zampa holding on. The four-man

:36:07.:36:18.

bobsleigh first-run has started, and you can watch that on the Red

:36:19.:36:26.

Button. And we will head their after the conclusion of this, the slalom.

:36:27.:36:31.

That is available on the Red Button. The Olympic champion from 2010

:36:32.:36:38.

getting on his way. And he hits the deck. That was the defence of his

:36:39.:36:50.

title over. His hopes and dreams ending with some snow. He has been

:36:51.:37:02.

out of form. He is happy with the way wings have gone. He has the gold

:37:03.:37:12.

medal position. These are the standings. These did not finish. I

:37:13.:37:27.

do not know where they are still standing here on the second run.

:37:28.:37:31.

Dave Ryding, for Great Britain, still holding ninth position. That

:37:32.:37:37.

was a real shame for Dave Ryding because he came to that grinding

:37:38.:37:41.

halt and stopped for about 1.5 seconds. Take that off, and he would

:37:42.:37:50.

be right up there. Once he made that mistake, he performed gently until

:37:51.:37:57.

the finish. He just fell file of that first virtually un-skiiable

:37:58.:38:11.

section. Mario Matt, he will be last. Almost as wet as that water.

:38:12.:38:21.

That is the problem, the warm temperatures. The second week on

:38:22.:38:27.

this Alpine venue. On this mountain, it has been really challenging. This

:38:28.:38:36.

should be interesting. Henrik Kristoffersen. At the age of 19 he

:38:37.:38:49.

won the night racing. He is warning that protector underneath his suit.

:38:50.:38:54.

We see a lot of crashes in slalom, people landing on their back and a

:38:55.:38:58.

lot of racers are starting to wear protectors in slalom. Nervous

:38:59.:39:07.

moments at the top. Everybody trying to maintain focus and concentration,

:39:08.:39:12.

particularly this man. The next man. Henrik Kristoffersen. He will be

:39:13.:39:17.

massively disappointed with his first performance. He will

:39:18.:39:22.

absolutely let rip on this course. Henrik Kristoffersen. The bid that

:39:23.:39:31.

lead over Adam Zampa. -- look at that lead. He has a lot of tricks

:39:32.:39:38.

and trap here. Here is the first one. He did OK. Brilliantly. The

:39:39.:39:49.

best we have seen, after Adam Zampa. How does this translate? Good. Six

:39:50.:39:56.

tenths in front, that is a solid start for Henrik Kristoffersen from

:39:57.:40:01.

Norway. He does like these offset gates, throwing his legs from side

:40:02.:40:13.

to side. This is known as the Royal flush. Going nicely. He has a steep

:40:14.:40:21.

section left to come. To his right, forcing through the turn, we might

:40:22.:40:25.

have a change in the leadership. Look at that. Henrik Kristoffersen,

:40:26.:40:31.

doing the best! And he leads the way. That is very good from Henrik

:40:32.:40:38.

Kristoffersen. He moves into the gold position. Adam Zampa is second.

:40:39.:40:54.

Dave Ryding is down in 10th place. There is a big time difference. But

:40:55.:40:59.

you never know, it is possible that he could hang on for a podium

:41:00.:41:04.

position but I do not think so. Good enough to be amongst the top five.

:41:05.:41:14.

Just over halfway. He cannot afford any mistakes, Fritz Dopfer. He has

:41:15.:41:24.

to get this right. He was cautious. He is through the toughest part of

:41:25.:41:33.

the course. Not as bad as we first thought. Yes, deceptive, clean. That

:41:34.:41:43.

is good, tight turns. He might not be far away at the next split. He

:41:44.:41:50.

has done well in the midsection! Fritz Dopfer from Germany is putting

:41:51.:42:03.

one dime. -- down. That is it gone. And Fritz Dopfer is in second place.

:42:04.:42:09.

Relief for Henrik Kristoffersen, that was touch and go all the way.

:42:10.:42:14.

Eventually, Fritz Dopfer is off the pace and into silver medal position.

:42:15.:42:20.

Henrik Kristoffersen leading. Adam Zampa in third place. There is a

:42:21.:42:26.

real contrast in styles. Fritz Dopfer is much, much cleaner. Making

:42:27.:42:32.

slightly less mistakes. Henrik Kristoffersen was just lasting.

:42:33.:42:36.

It'll pony mistakes slowing him down. That was the last mistake he

:42:37.:42:45.

made. Second place, silver medal position - for the moment. It is

:42:46.:42:57.

starting to warm up. He has to throw caution to the wind. This is

:42:58.:43:08.

scruffy. It is over. Technically, he did not put his feet through the

:43:09.:43:13.

gates. He will be disqualified. He missed the red gate, vertically, he

:43:14.:43:20.

went through the blue. But he did not go through, . You would be

:43:21.:43:34.

thinking, what is this about? Slalom is not normally like this! This is a

:43:35.:43:39.

very tricky course. We talked about this before. It is a sting. --

:43:40.:43:53.

stinker. And he stumbles at the start! He has lost time. This is

:43:54.:44:05.

Daniel Yule, racing for Switzerland. He has got Scottish parents. Born in

:44:06.:44:14.

the French-speaking part of Switzerland. Another slight mistake,

:44:15.:44:25.

there. Getting later in that line. Daniel Yule had a very good first

:44:26.:44:30.

run. From 29, he went into 12 position. That was a brilliant first

:44:31.:44:36.

run. He struggled with the technical demands of this. He has never come

:44:37.:44:40.

across anything like this in his career. And he was pretty solid, all

:44:41.:44:48.

the way through. He finishes in 11th position. A couple of mistakes, he

:44:49.:45:01.

fought back. Getting his balance. This is a mistake just as he

:45:02.:45:05.

started. He stepped on the gate he had just knocked over. The gate

:45:06.:45:11.

comes down, underneath his ski. And he stepped on the actual gate. It is

:45:12.:45:19.

not a straddle, just very unlucky. Nose slide on those gates, they

:45:20.:45:23.

offer an awful lot of friction, that slowed him right down. It is all

:45:24.:45:26.

happening here. He only has 17 hundredths in hand

:45:27.:45:40.

over Kristoffersen. He has plenty of experience. Just jumped around,

:45:41.:45:50.

switches his skis in the air. He will be in touch at this into media.

:45:51.:45:59.

1500 speed high. -- at this intermediate.

:46:00.:46:05.

Just incredible, this course. He has lost touch now. If you want to watch

:46:06.:46:16.

the four-man bobsleigh, press the red button now, you can see the

:46:17.:46:22.

opening runs in the first day of four-man bobsleigh racing and we

:46:23.:46:27.

will head there at the end of this second round of the men's slalom. We

:46:28.:46:34.

have got the fastest ten after the first run, ready to ski the second

:46:35.:46:41.

leg. The medals are about to do be decided. Kristoffersen of Norway is

:46:42.:46:44.

is in gold. They tend to start them in about

:46:45.:46:59.

minute intervals, so we will know in about ten, 15 minutes time. There is

:47:00.:47:07.

the man who will go last, hoping to become the oldest Olympic men's

:47:08.:47:14.

slalom champion, Mario Matt. Markus Larsson. The course starting to cut

:47:15.:47:23.

up, there are ruts and lumps and bumps to deal with, as well as the

:47:24.:47:29.

quirky course, courtesy of Kostelic. He is doing OK. Half a second in

:47:30.:47:43.

front, he began. He has got to let it go, attack. Little room for

:47:44.:47:54.

error. Lost a lot of speed. Look how far behind TS. This top three are

:47:55.:48:03.

separated just by six tenths of a second. Those who are in the tap ten

:48:04.:48:18.

-- top ten. The Swedish still have two more to come. It will halt up

:48:19.:48:39.

from now on in. All of the guys starting from now one could

:48:40.:48:44.

potentially get onto the podium. It is like a Who's Who in world slalom

:48:45.:48:50.

racing. Nobody better known than Marcel Hirscher, the world champion.

:48:51.:48:56.

Fast start from him. He likes this course. He sets about attacking the

:48:57.:49:06.

course. He is a little hard on his edges. He is meaning business

:49:07.:49:20.

tonight. He could really raised the bar. That was really good, the under

:49:21.:49:27.

gate into the vertical. Carried a lot of speed there. Half a second

:49:28.:49:33.

front, living dangerously at times, cutting a tight line to the gate. He

:49:34.:49:39.

has got the tricky under gate to come, deals with that nicely. Sets

:49:40.:49:45.

his sights on the finishing line, gold medal position at the moment,

:49:46.:49:50.

fabulous stop he was angry after the first run. He has used all of that

:49:51.:49:56.

anger and aggression up to produce a fantastic second run. Here she --

:49:57.:50:06.

Marcel Hirscher into gold. He has raised the bar. Ever so slightly

:50:07.:50:13.

jumping into the turns, not really getting the pressure before the four

:50:14.:50:17.

line and having to hammer on the edges.

:50:18.:50:38.

Next up, Alexis Pinturault. He leads the way at the moment by over half a

:50:39.:50:40.

second. Dave Riding will finish no worse

:50:41.:50:54.

than 23rd. -- Dave Ryding. There is some incredible footage of

:50:55.:51:23.

him on the Internet. Jean-Baptiste Grange coming up, all the big names.

:51:24.:51:33.

Andrew Myhrer is second quickest. Number 17 is the Italian, Stefano

:51:34.:51:42.

Gross. The next man in the start gate Alexis Pinturault. A little tap

:51:43.:51:52.

of the ski poles. Sometimes he messes up his starts. He made a

:51:53.:51:55.

Kleenex it there. -- clean exit. He is trailing. No, he is up. He is

:51:56.:52:27.

down. Big high side, up and down. He has a medal from the giant slalom,

:52:28.:52:31.

took the bronze there. No luck tonight in the slalom. On the tails

:52:32.:52:38.

of his skis, bounced backwards and jetted out of the course.

:52:39.:52:49.

This was fairly undignified end to his Olympic campaign. There is no

:52:50.:52:56.

way anyone can hold that and stay forward.

:52:57.:53:05.

Would have been good in the halfpipe, but not here. There are

:53:06.:53:09.

seven to go. John Jackson and his crew are about

:53:10.:53:31.

to race in the four-man bobsleigh, if you would like to watch that

:53:32.:53:33.

press the red button. He has lost a good half a second, on

:53:34.:53:52.

these first gates. He has only lost a couple of tenths

:53:53.:54:12.

of a second. Got away with it. Now he is motoring. He looks quite

:54:13.:54:19.

smooth across the flat. Better than just about anybody we have seen so

:54:20.:54:28.

far. He has gone. He skis either side of the gates, and there it

:54:29.:54:33.

ends. Marcel Hirscher ends in the medal position.

:54:34.:54:44.

We get to the sixth quickest man after the first run. He stepped on

:54:45.:55:06.

gate again. He crossed the tales of his skis.

:55:07.:55:19.

He just tried to cut a little too high on the gate.

:55:20.:55:33.

Ted Ligety is next to go. He has already taken gold in the giant

:55:34.:55:37.

slalom. He skis for a medal in the slalom.

:55:38.:55:46.

Mistakes are forgiveable honours course -- forgiveable on this

:55:47.:55:52.

course. Just five to come. You have got to

:55:53.:56:06.

think Marcel Hirscher will start to be considering he could get a medal.

:56:07.:56:11.

He will start to believe in the chance of a medal. There five to

:56:12.:56:19.

come. Grange of France, Matias Hargin of Sweden, Stefano Gross of

:56:20.:56:23.

Italy, Myra from Sweden, and Mario Matt from Austria. Dave Ryding in

:56:24.:56:32.

15th position. It just goes to show how many have not made the finish.

:56:33.:56:39.

Dave did come to a grinding halt on that first trap. He is in 15th, so

:56:40.:56:50.

his worst place is 20th. Ted Ligety in conversation. The way things are

:56:51.:56:59.

going, I cannot see the next five all making the finish. John Baptist

:57:00.:57:05.

Grange will be next. Lots of encouragement. -- Jean-Baptiste

:57:06.:57:08.

Grange. He is ready to race. Former world

:57:09.:57:22.

champion. He likes to ski a clean line, close on the gates. He has

:57:23.:57:30.

messed it up completely. He had the advantage of watching everyone

:57:31.:57:35.

else. He just couldn't get the pressure, didn't get high on that

:57:36.:57:40.

red gate so he couldn't come back up through the other side. One of the

:57:41.:57:48.

spring-loaded gates hit him on the top of his helmet. Marcel Hirscher

:57:49.:57:55.

starting to serious believe in a medal tonight. I think it is likely.

:57:56.:58:07.

We have just four to come. Before the race started we were talking

:58:08.:58:11.

about Marcel Hirscher, and Kristoffersen, bad first runs but

:58:12.:58:17.

storming second runs. Mitty is Hargin on his way, unorthodox

:58:18.:58:18.

technique. -- he is Hargin. He will be just ahead that he will

:58:19.:58:40.

have lost most of his time. It is so difficult to call, this race. Marcel

:58:41.:58:45.

Hirscher's lead appears to be intact and is Hargin can put one down in

:58:46.:58:51.

the latter stages of his second run. Is he in touch? He is not. With

:58:52.:59:01.

three, four left to challenge, Marcel Hirscher is definitely

:59:02.:59:08.

getting on the podium for stop --. Hargin has failed to convert. Three

:59:09.:59:19.

to come, Marcel Hirscher leads. Straight out of the finish area, not

:59:20.:59:23.

stopping for the camera, massively disappointed. Stefano Gross is next.

:59:24.:59:33.

He came in from a star number of 17 so he did perform in difficult

:59:34.:59:37.

conditions on the first run. Whereas Matt started three. They benefited

:59:38.:59:44.

from the lottery of the start number draw. He is used to this course

:59:45.:59:52.

being cut up. Will he cope with the pressure, he has never been in this

:59:53.:59:54.

situation? He comes out of the gate. Stumbles

:59:55.:00:05.

and studies his way through the first few turns. It is all right. It

:00:06.:00:12.

will be in touch with Marcel Hirscher. He just clings on. Now he

:00:13.:00:29.

has got to nail this under gate to vertical. He does it well. Not as

:00:30.:00:36.

well as Kristoffersen or Marcel Hirscher. There is room in amongst

:00:37.:00:45.

the medal places for Stefano Gross, the Italian comes into the final

:00:46.:00:50.

stretch. He has a big heavy edge check sideways. The lead is safe. He

:00:51.:00:57.

is third, into bonds medal position. -- bronze. Marcel Hirscher is

:00:58.:01:04.

guaranteed a medal. He wouldn't have thought that after the first run.

:01:05.:01:08.

Storming second one. We have a tie for third. We have two men left to

:01:09.:01:27.

race. Minimum bronze for Marcel Hirscher. Fritz Dopfer is looking

:01:28.:01:39.

concerned. His medal, he is tied for bronze, hangs in the balance. Can

:01:40.:01:45.

Myhrer make it count for Sweden? He is on his way. Solid looking

:01:46.:02:01.

start. He made the most of the top section. He is out. Kristoffersen is

:02:02.:02:09.

also guaranteed a medal. And there they are, the two who are certain of

:02:10.:02:15.

making the big podium embrace. It all comes down to Mario Matt, could

:02:16.:02:25.

get Austria one and two. We see where Myra's slalom came crumbling

:02:26.:02:31.

down. He needed to get above the red gate. There is one man left to race.

:02:32.:02:52.

Mario Matt has never won an Olympic medal. His younger brother has won a

:02:53.:03:04.

silver medal. In Vancouver. Marcel Hirscher wanders out into the finish

:03:05.:03:09.

area, as Mario Matt steps forward. I think he will win. He is only 19. No

:03:10.:03:21.

subtlety, whatsoever. Last man on the Hill. Double world champion. The

:03:22.:03:28.

youngest ever slalom winner last night. Can Mario Matt become the

:03:29.:03:38.

oldest? Look at the lead he has. He needs to draw on all his strength.

:03:39.:03:42.

And his massive amount of experience. A steady start. He is

:03:43.:03:51.

safely through. He has done better than anybody. Over a second in hand,

:03:52.:03:58.

he can afford a little mistake. Got to do it for this 30 somethings. He

:03:59.:04:05.

has only lost four tenths of a second stop this part of the course

:04:06.:04:11.

is crucial. He wrote it through, nicely. He didn't lose any speed. He

:04:12.:04:22.

is skiing beautifully. Superb, turns tight, this could be it, the gold

:04:23.:04:29.

medal to Mario Matt. The final stages of the Limerick slalom, Mario

:04:30.:04:33.

Matt, the 34-year-old, skis for gold, he has got it! He is the

:04:34.:04:41.

Olympic slalom champion. The oldest ever winner of the men's Olympic

:04:42.:04:48.

slalom. Marcel Hirscher takes the silver with Henrik Kristoffersen,

:04:49.:04:52.

the 19-year-old Norwegian, taking the bronze medal. What a spread of

:04:53.:04:59.

ages on the podium. Experience wins the day.

:05:00.:05:06.

Mario Matt had plenty of time to watch at the top, he saw the

:05:07.:05:13.

mistakes of his close rivals, he saw them fall and crash and watched them

:05:14.:05:19.

straddle. And then Tom he held his nerve and skied for gold. -- and

:05:20.:05:26.

then he held his nerve. So the thirtysomethings coming good at the

:05:27.:05:32.

Olympics, the final Alpine race of the 2014 Olympic Winter Games came

:05:33.:05:38.

right down to the wire. The Austrians had the medal table in the

:05:39.:05:44.

Alpine programme. They conclude with gold in the men's slalom. Mario

:05:45.:05:51.

Matt's final Olympics and he has struck gold. A big party in Saint

:05:52.:05:55.

Anton Samad, crazy kangaroo will be going absolutely insane. This is how

:05:56.:06:04.

he did it. Experience, composure and skill. Brilliant from Mario Matt. He

:06:05.:06:06.

is the Olympic slalom champion. CLARE BALDING: If you want to watch

:06:07.:06:18.

Final Score, it is available on the red button, we are staying with

:06:19.:06:20.

Winter Olympics and because very soon we will see our British curlers

:06:21.:06:24.

receive their medals but their chance to reflect on a slalom

:06:25.:06:30.

Olympic race the like of which we have never seen. That was some

:06:31.:06:40.

course. I think Kostelic who set the course perhaps had too many vodkas

:06:41.:06:44.

when he created it! It was a shame for many of the races, so many

:06:45.:06:49.

crashed. The right guys came out on top and it is great to see Mario

:06:50.:06:52.

Matt on top but it is such a shame to see slalom racing at its best

:06:53.:06:56.

like that. We get the confirmation of the standings.

:06:57.:07:00.

It was amazing how many good skiers did not finish. Mario Matt coming

:07:01.:07:06.

down last, and Marcel Hirscher who wins his first Olympic medal. Have

:07:07.:07:11.

been so frustrated and when he finished at other levels in the

:07:12.:07:15.

giant slalom, he said his best chance of a medal was gone and he

:07:16.:07:19.

was so upset, he finished fourth and fifth in Vancouver so this is a big

:07:20.:07:22.

metal moment for him and his compatriots who is the oldest ever

:07:23.:07:25.

gold medallist in the slalom takes the gold ahead of him. I know he was

:07:26.:07:31.

incredibly frustrated after his first run, coming in is the

:07:32.:07:34.

strongest and the favourite but actually the second run really

:07:35.:07:37.

suited his type of skiing because he senses beat so far out in the course

:07:38.:07:42.

was so tricky with big offset gates so it suited the way he skis. Dave

:07:43.:07:48.

Matt finished 15th so he did very well, a bad mistake -- they've

:07:49.:07:54.

Ryding. He made a big mistake, the almost stood still after that but

:07:55.:07:59.

then he was sensational and he can be proud about run. Big crowds in

:08:00.:08:03.

the medals plaza and they are gathering now for the medal ceremony

:08:04.:08:07.

for the men's curling. And Canada, for the first time, have done the

:08:08.:08:14.

gold medal doubles with the women skipped by Jennifer Jones and they

:08:15.:08:18.

won the men's as well but Great Britain will appear on the podium

:08:19.:08:21.

for both of these medal ceremonies. Lots of Canadian funds into cheer

:08:22.:08:26.

their boys, the buff boys as they are called. And Jennifer Jones and

:08:27.:08:32.

her side. But it is a wonderful site, Jackie Lockhart is with me,

:08:33.:08:37.

you have killed at three Olympic Games for Great Britain and this is

:08:38.:08:40.

the first time that in both men's and women's, British teams will come

:08:41.:08:49.

out to receive medals. , -- you have curled at three Olympic Games. Lots

:08:50.:08:54.

of preparation and it is great to see the medals coming through at the

:08:55.:08:58.

end. We have been successful at worlds and Europeans but to do it at

:08:59.:09:01.

the Olympics is marvellous. They are led out onto the stage and the

:09:02.:09:07.

presentation of the medals will be made by a man Steve Cram knows very

:09:08.:09:11.

well, a formally big sprint champion, I should never say

:09:12.:09:15.

former, and other big sprint champion in 1972 for the I have

:09:16.:09:19.

never met him, I know lots about him, one of the all-time greats, won

:09:20.:09:28.

the double in 1972 and you will not remember this, Clare Balding, but

:09:29.:09:31.

American sprinters were so good at the time, two of them missed their

:09:32.:09:39.

quarterfinals. I think they slept in and they could not do the 200

:09:40.:09:43.

metres, I think they won the relay in the end and the soviet union

:09:44.:09:49.

hero, he is actually Ukrainian. I think you have something to do with

:09:50.:09:53.

the Ukrainian national Olympic committee as well. Here come the

:09:54.:10:00.

presentation party and you saw the British team coming out and waving

:10:01.:10:05.

and smiling and having been deflated and disappointed after losing their

:10:06.:10:09.

final heavily, now they can really celebrate the glories of winning a

:10:10.:10:12.

medal in this competition, David Murdoch in particular. And an

:10:13.:10:16.

achievement that he has been trying and striving after for many years.

:10:17.:10:25.

Craig Reedie up there as well, he has a new role with WADA which is

:10:26.:10:32.

very important. I know this will be a very proud moment for him. And of

:10:33.:10:37.

course, a Great Britain team and for Scotland in particular, Jackie, you

:10:38.:10:44.

have been talking about how much you have been getting reports back home

:10:45.:10:51.

and in Aberdeen, they are expecting 300 people to turn up and have a go.

:10:52.:10:55.

I have had lots of communication back home and curling has exploded

:10:56.:11:00.

back home, it is so good to see. What platform this has been an good

:11:01.:11:07.

players out there have just highlighted and risen our sport much

:11:08.:11:10.

more than we ever anticipated. It is wonderful to see. It is a rather

:11:11.:11:18.

large medals presentation party than normally happens. But they will each

:11:19.:11:25.

carry out different medals to present and I am reliably informed

:11:26.:11:30.

that Valerie bought supple make the silver medal presentation.

:11:31.:11:35.

Meanwhile, the athletes are waiting behind their spec two podiums for

:11:36.:11:39.

their moment. You can see Tom Brewster and David

:11:40.:12:02.

Murdoch grinning away, the ultimate... Claire, this has been a

:12:03.:12:06.

great addition, the whole medals plaza idea. And the Olympics being

:12:07.:12:11.

separated, everybody in the mountains in the snow of events and

:12:12.:12:16.

then the ice events down here. It is a great thing to do to give them the

:12:17.:12:20.

chance to get the medal in front of big crowds. To have a special

:12:21.:12:26.

ceremony like this is fantastic for them. . Stepping forward to receive

:12:27.:12:33.

their medals, the bronze medal winning team of Sweden. They beat

:12:34.:12:35.

China in their bronze medal match, their skip Niklas Edin was so

:12:36.:12:40.

distraught after losing the semifinal to Great Britain. They can

:12:41.:12:44.

now enjoy a fine moment with his team. They have been in many ways

:12:45.:12:50.

the form curlers over the past couple of years in World

:12:51.:12:53.

Championships and World Cup competitions. Is, the announcer said

:12:54.:13:00.

Sebastien Coe, but it was Sebastian Kraupp. The Swedes, the world

:13:01.:13:04.

champions will have come here with high hopes and Canada were the

:13:05.:13:08.

favourites. But Jackie Lockhart would agree, so please do see them

:13:09.:13:11.

on the rostrum. It was a tough bronze medal match, probably one of

:13:12.:13:14.

their best throughout the tournament against China winning it in the

:13:15.:13:19.

extra end. A couple of mistakes from China but I think most people will

:13:20.:13:23.

be pleased to see Sweeting getting the rostrum. Yes, these guys have

:13:24.:13:27.

travelled all over the world and they have trained for a long time

:13:28.:13:33.

and current world champions and they were desperate to get the medal and

:13:34.:13:36.

they have to fight hard for it. And I think it is very well-deserved.

:13:37.:13:41.

They are really appreciated by all their friends out there and the

:13:42.:13:48.

other curling teams. Great rivalry but also great friendships out

:13:49.:13:52.

there. Just to confirm that the ultimate, even if they have not

:13:53.:13:56.

played in any matches, they do receive a medal, they are part of

:13:57.:14:00.

the team and help in the preparation. -- to confirm the

:14:01.:14:04.

alternate and that is what you see five men, not four.

:14:05.:14:10.

Silver medallists, representing Great Britain,

:14:11.:14:20.

And now, a male British curling team steps up to receive a medal at the

:14:21.:14:30.

Winter Olympics for the first time since 1924. And they've Medoc, 35

:14:31.:14:36.

years old, from Lockerbie, alongside the youngsters, Greg Drummond, ,

:14:37.:14:45.

Michael Goodfellow from Stirling and the alternate Tom Brewster from

:14:46.:14:48.

Aberdeen, this is their moment and Sir Craig Reedie handing the silver

:14:49.:14:53.

medals to them and putting them around their necks. And look at

:14:54.:14:57.

David Murdoch, he keeps looking at it, he cannot believe it's that

:14:58.:15:01.

after all this time, it has happened. He has had to Olympics

:15:02.:15:12.

before this. And there is Tom Brewster who helped get these three

:15:13.:15:16.

guys to where they got to. And for David Murdoch, you said earlier, the

:15:17.:15:21.

emotion he had in the interview afterwards, it is tough to come back

:15:22.:15:26.

and Jackie knows what it is like to come forth in the Olympics and it is

:15:27.:15:31.

four years, that is a long time to motivate yourself and make the

:15:32.:15:34.

commitment and to say he will give it another go so well done to him

:15:35.:15:38.

and all the guys. A lovely moment as Tom Brewster got his medal, David

:15:39.:15:44.

Murdoch led the pros and the whole team applauded him for the party has

:15:45.:15:48.

played. -- led the applause. And looking at Dave's face, particularly

:15:49.:15:53.

for him, if this can be topped, you wonder. We will wait for the

:15:54.:15:59.

decision that he will take. Whatever happens, this is just magnificent

:16:00.:16:07.

for him and the team. This is really a special moment for the guys, a

:16:08.:16:11.

special moment for everybody back home who has supported them and all

:16:12.:16:15.

the fans and I spoke today this morning and he couldn't actually...

:16:16.:16:21.

He wanted to see Lizzy Yarnold's medal. You will have one later on

:16:22.:16:26.

today, I said to them. It is wonderful. And now the team that

:16:27.:16:31.

beat Great Britain in that gold-medal match, they won 9-3 and

:16:32.:16:36.

the match was conceded after eight ends, they have been so strong

:16:37.:16:40.

throughout the tournament. Their skip Brad Jacobs, Ryan Harnden and

:16:41.:16:51.

the ultimate scale and lazy -- and known as the buff boys because they

:16:52.:16:57.

are in extreme physical shape and curling is massive on Canadian

:16:58.:17:00.

television, only ice hockey rates higher in so these guys are also

:17:01.:17:04.

liberty back in Canada and this for them, they will have felt they

:17:05.:17:11.

deserved it and probably because they may have expected it. Yes, they

:17:12.:17:16.

did. Their country did and it took them two or three matches to realise

:17:17.:17:21.

they were going to have to treat this as everybody else did, with the

:17:22.:17:25.

spec it deserves. The other pigs are different and they are undoubtedly

:17:26.:17:29.

perhaps the best team in the world -- the Olympics are different. They

:17:30.:17:34.

were good, they are not everybody's cup party in terms of their style,

:17:35.:17:38.

they are in your face, they have a level of intensity which hopes their

:17:39.:17:41.

game. It does not come across well to others necessarily but that is

:17:42.:17:46.

the way they play and that is the way they win. Talking to our guys

:17:47.:17:50.

last but, they said the Canadian team were much more subdued here

:17:51.:17:53.

than they have been in other tournaments and certainly if they

:17:54.:17:58.

were in front of a home crowd, they would have beat their chests a lot

:17:59.:18:02.

more. I think what Steve said there, the whole mannerism, they are very

:18:03.:18:08.

cocky but when they got here, they realised this competition is

:18:09.:18:11.

different from everything else. It is the Olympic Games and the

:18:12.:18:16.

pressure got to these guys and initially, I think it took them a

:18:17.:18:21.

few days before they started holding their shoulders back and acted like

:18:22.:18:25.

they normally do. They have won eight and won it impressively and we

:18:26.:18:29.

will now hear the national anthem of Canada, Oh, Canada.

:18:30.:18:47.

Britain, the curling teams. At the MUSIC: Canadian

:18:48.:20:13.

They will enjoy every single moment. It is something you can go back to.

:20:14.:25:47.

Did you think this would happen for them? I had hoped it would happen.

:25:48.:25:56.

That was the plan, give her the experience. She has grown so much,

:25:57.:26:01.

this whole team have grown. They have put in all the commitment and

:26:02.:26:06.

effort and look at this, they will be standing up on the podium,

:26:07.:26:19.

collecting a medal. That is the President of the International

:26:20.:26:36.

Paralympic committee. -- Committee. Again, they have a larger than usual

:26:37.:26:42.

presentation committee. Eve Muirhead coming in as skipper when she was

:26:43.:26:49.

only 19 at Vancouver, the experience of that, coming here as a

:26:50.:26:54.

23-year-old, she has been through it and having the support she had from

:26:55.:27:03.

Anna Sloan and Vicki Adams, they are a very tight and good group of

:27:04.:27:20.

friends. Look how big the medals have got. For Valeri Borzov, back in

:27:21.:27:31.

1972, I guess it was a surprise for many. He had a great year the year

:27:32.:27:37.

before, but it is great to see old champions being part of the

:27:38.:27:56.

ceremony. As they go through the translations, onto the Russian

:27:57.:27:59.

version, Great Britain will be the first to receive their medals. They

:28:00.:28:08.

are wearing those fine hearts and they were so delighted -- hats. They

:28:09.:28:18.

were able to celebrate because they won their march -- match.

:28:19.:28:37.

Representing Great Britain, what a proud moment for Eve Muirhead, Anna

:28:38.:28:44.

Sloan, Vicki Adams, Claire Hamilton and Lauren Gray. You must be so

:28:45.:28:55.

proud. This is fantastic, I am sure there will be tears back home. You

:28:56.:29:00.

saw the smile on their faces, they are so delighted. Very difficult to

:29:01.:29:08.

come here as world champions, people raise their game, they fought hard

:29:09.:29:12.

to get that bronze medal. I am sure they will not be able to believe it.

:29:13.:29:18.

The medals are getting bigger and heavier. I am so impressed. It is

:29:19.:29:29.

lovely that he is making this presentation. He has been a very

:29:30.:29:36.

influential figure in Great Britain and now all around the world. This

:29:37.:29:45.

will not be the last time we see these girls on a podium. They have

:29:46.:29:56.

many more medals to collect. They were beaten by Canada, who have won

:29:57.:30:02.

the gold medal. The way the competition works, they ended up in

:30:03.:30:08.

the bronze medal match because they drew Canada in the semifinal. If

:30:09.:30:14.

Canada where the best team, I think we were second best. The girls would

:30:15.:30:21.

I accept that Canada deserved the gold medal. We will see them in a

:30:22.:30:27.

second. They can be so proud of their achievement. They will be

:30:28.:30:33.

back. Four years may seem like a long time, but it is amazing how

:30:34.:30:41.

quickly it will come around. Stepping forward, the side that has

:30:42.:30:53.

taken the silver medal. Sweden. It was gold in the last two Olympic

:30:54.:30:58.

Games for the Swedish curling team. They have a new skip. Margaretha

:30:59.:31:08.

Sigfridsson led her team to an exceptional silver medal. They did

:31:09.:31:13.

not always play at their best. They managed to dig out a victory when

:31:14.:31:19.

they needed it most. Even in that final, they played well, even until

:31:20.:31:29.

the last couple of Games. Maria Prytz played a shot which gave two

:31:30.:31:36.

away. It was down to the ninth end when they lost the two. Other than

:31:37.:31:43.

that, they were very quiet and confident and played well. Without

:31:44.:31:54.

question, you would have had to have taken this away from Canada.

:31:55.:32:05.

Jennifer Jones was not the skip in Vancouver. They did not win the gold

:32:06.:32:18.

medal in Vancouver. There are so many good teams that could represent

:32:19.:32:26.

Canada. For Jennifer Jones, it has been the culmination of a long

:32:27.:32:31.

campaign. Sweden are no longer the Olympic champions. That title

:32:32.:32:36.

belongs to Canada and for Jennifer Jones, she did get through the

:32:37.:32:43.

trials in 2005, but not in 2009. She has had to wait a long time for

:32:44.:32:49.

this. She is 39 years old and recently became a mother. Her

:32:50.:32:59.

partner is here. This is their moment, they can jump for joy.

:33:00.:33:07.

Canada has been unbeaten and take the gold medal. Jennifer Jones

:33:08.:33:11.

there. They have worked together so well. They have played very well all

:33:12.:33:24.

season to get here they played well in the Olympic trials. Jennifer

:33:25.:33:34.

Jones has a tear in her eye. Jill Officer there. Those two, when they

:33:35.:33:44.

were teenagers, Jennifer Jones asked Jill Officer to play in her team.

:33:45.:33:49.

She said even then, Jennifer Jones was her hero, even when she was a

:33:50.:33:56.

teenager. Dawn McEwen, she was a brilliant lead for them. You grow up

:33:57.:34:02.

as caves, you dream of winning an Olympic gold medal and it comes to

:34:03.:34:13.

fruition -- children. And Great Britain should be proud to be on the

:34:14.:34:18.

podium and standing next to a side this good and, who knows, maybe one

:34:19.:34:23.

day Eve Muirhead and her team will be good enough to be in the central

:34:24.:34:28.

position. Jackie believes they could be back here with another big medal

:34:29.:34:34.

in four-year 's' time. For the second time, we will hear the

:34:35.:34:35.

Canadian national anthem. CHEERING. And you can hear the

:34:36.:35:59.

cheering from here. Congratulations to Canada. Final score follows

:36:00.:36:05.

immediately and we will be back at six o'clock with more live action

:36:06.:36:10.

from the Winter Olympics. We will be catching up with the four-man bob.

:36:11.:36:15.

Jackson and his crew have been going well in training. We will see if

:36:16.:36:20.

they can put that into practice now that it matters. This is a

:36:21.:36:24.

photograph that the British girls will treasure and a medal that they

:36:25.:36:31.

genuinely, genuinely deserve. Jackie Lockhart is smiling like a proud

:36:32.:36:34.

mother watching this. You look so delighted. I feel like the old

:36:35.:36:42.

mother hen. I used to curl with some of these girls and it is nice to see

:36:43.:36:45.

them doing so well, really wonderful. British fans have

:36:46.:36:51.

travelled here and the men and women have family members and friends and

:36:52.:36:55.

it is lovely they can share it. And when they go back to Stirling to

:36:56.:37:02.

train they will get more attention and congratulations. We go off the

:37:03.:37:24.

air with huge congratulations. Final score is coming up after this.
