Malaga The Travel Show

all afternoon! Welcome to The Travel Show, coming

this week from southern Spain. This region is really well-known for the

beaches, holiday resorts and sometimes sunshine. But I'm here for

a different reason, the checkout geocashing. This is a huge outdoor

treasure hunt and millions of people from all around the world will come

here to search for clues. -- Geocaching. But not everyone here is

a fan. In the meantime, this is what else we have coming up on the show.

We had to South Africa to take it to other satirical museum that looks

back at the country's recent history. And Ben gets creative in

Salzburg, as he finds out what makes the ultimate inspirational travel

picture. First... The southern Spanish region of

Malaga draws tourists with its beaches and beautiful weather. But

it is also appealing to a growing number of people who wanted the

hills here and all over the world in search of Geocaches. Small hidden

packages left by other travellers. It is basically a worldwide game of

hide and seek and to play all you need to do is download an app. Once

you are all registered and signed in, you just need to go to search.

You can search by location and it uses my current location. It tells

me there are 19 geocaches in my vicinity. Hello, Toby. Pleased to

meet you. I hear you are the geocach gurus. Visit all about? It is a real

world high-tech treasure hunt. We use GPS receivers, like the sat nav

here, or a GPS enabled mobile phone to search for hidden treasure. But

it's not real treasure. Geocaches are usually just hidden containers

with a log book and sometimes a small trinket. There are no Jools or

silver, rubies, anything like that. -- jewels. Funnies in researching

and visiting new places, many of which you wouldn't even know

existed. -- the fun is. It said there was one geocach near this

temple. There is! Shall we find it? I would love to. We are joined by

Toby's friend Mike, a fellow geocaching enthusiast. My phone app

clearly shows the location of the geocach and our proximity to it. It

says it is over there but that's basically through the bush. The you

wade through with a machete? If you wish! Personally I would rather go

the easy way, round the past. Where the adventure in that? Apparently

the trek is to look for something that's a little out of place, an

unusual rock for example. -- the trick. The geocach could be stashed

nearby. But it is easier said than done. We are on a hillside covered

metres. I could be here all afternoon! Five metres! Thankfully

not, however. After a few minutes of searching, eureka! Hang on! I almost

went straight past! All right! Well, this shouldn't be here. It's not

part of the natural environment. Geocaching! That's your first

geocach. Here we go! Now I just have to sign a blog look and hide the

geocach again. I've left my mark. Geocaching officially began in the

year 2000 and has since grown from just one GPS enthusiast to over 10

million participants worldwide. They are hidden in locations all around

the world, from near the famous Hollywood sign in Los Angeles to the

top of mount Everest and there's even a registered off world location

on International Space Station. Altogether there are over 2.5

million geocaches to be found across 180 countries. This means rich

pickings for geocachers but it can present some problems, as happened

recently near the ruins of an agent Roman settlement on the Spanish

coast. -- ancient. Somebody had the bright idea of putting one in this

modern stone wall in the car park. But what they probably didn't

anticipate was geocachers who would descend on this place and start

pulling rocks out of the wall. In this case, no precious

archaeological features were damaged, but local authorities have

taken the issue seriously. The geocaching community does give clear

guidelines about how and where to hide a cach and any inappropriate

locations are to be reported and removed from listings. TRANSLATION:

It's a new activity which could bring economic development of the

people and towns. In principle, it must be supported, it is clear that

we need to establish parameters and a standard behaviour for the people

involved. The key, according to Toby, is to follow official

guidelines when hiding a cach. You shouldn't put them in things like

national parks or areas of natural outstanding beauty without some form

of permission. And you shouldn't put them in dangerous areas, like on the

edges of cliffs. Common sense really. And there's only one way to

learn how to do it properly and that's to hide a cach ourselves. We

are including what is known as a trackable, an item that can be taken

by other people around the world and can be tracked by a unique code. We

can track this? All set to go! Luggage tag should do that job

nicely. Put that one on the top. And that's absolutely perfect! All

right. Your first geocach. I wonder who will find it? It's not hard to

see why geocaching has caught on and if it is done responsibly this

growing phenomenon could be a blessing for the tourism industry,

touring tourists to lesser-known locations in search of hidden

treasure. And if you are wondering what happened to our travel show

trackable it was last seen almost 1500 miles away from Malaga in

Germany. Who knows where it will travel to next? If you're thinking

of getting stuck into some Acra on, here are some tips on how to get

started and how to do it responsibly. Geocaching. Common is a

But there are others. Another website uses natural and historical

places as caches. And other focus is on the quality of caches rather than

the quality. -- quantity. If you want to hide your own geocach make

sure you have the landowner's permission and you don't damage the

environment. A full set of guidelines is on the geocaching.com

website. They also recommend you don't hide your own until you've

found 20 already, that way you are more likely to know what makes a

With all been there. You are looking at travel photos online and

thinking, oh, I wish I was there. This time it is less wishing and

more going. Obviously reality doesn't always quite match up to the

pictures on Instagram, but travel photos are a massive part of social

media. I tend to share a fair few myself. One thing I am yet to master

is how to get the likes and favourites into the hundreds and

thousands. Well, here in Salzburg on picture has been drawing in tourists

weigh before anyone had heard of Instagram. And it has a museum named

after it. I think it may be the biggest

painting of ever seen. Yes, you can look at the whole surrounding of

Salzburg. Wow. Is this the old city? This is the dome and here is the

museum. Wow, the detail is unbelievable.

How do you even create something like this? He was standing on the

top of the castle. So it is a very beautiful place and he has captured

that beauty very well in this image, that dissing ties people to come at

a home-grown comedy cultural icon and performer who runs a visitor

attraction where he gives his own unique take on South Africa's past

fabulous people here in this country on every level of this society. To
